Hooning, Monaco-style
Straight into another Qualifying Saturday and it's Monaco, baby! The jewel in the crown! The apple in the eye! The peanut in the M&M! I'm particularly interested in how the DRS will affect racing up through the narrow, wiggly pit straight - even if there is a speed boost, I reckon the track will be narrow enough for the leader to defend against the attacker. But we'll see. DRS is banned in the tunnel, of course so today we shouldn't see too maybe people crashing through the post-tunnel chicane, but the desperation to get to pole for the city race could through some people into some serious errors. For the sake of the championship, let's hope it's Vettel, eh?
This Weekend In F1
- Red Bull to Pit More Sleuthily: Helmut Marko became suspicious that Ferrari were listening in to Red Bull's radio communications during the Spanish race, as Alonso tended to pit in tandem with the Red Bull car he was fighting. After successfully forcing Fernando into the pits with a dummy move from the Red Bull pit crew, Christian Horner has vowed to make their pit stop preparation less obvious, though he hasn't mentioned how he plans to do that.
- Two or Three Pitstops Expected: James Allen reports that the strategists have concluded that the race strategies will be divided between two-stoppers and three stoppers during the race. The three-stop strategy is the faster overall strategy, but the two stoppers could have edge if that manage to get track position and hold up the three-stoppers. Of course, the spanking new red supersoft Pirellis are making their debut this weekend, and we expect them to last about the length of the pitlane.
- Newey Admits KERS problem: Adrian Newey has finally admitted that Red Bull have underestimated the importance of KERS. Adrian Newey, of course, refused to compromise his aero package and gave the KERS team a singularity-sized space to work within. There are rumours that the drivetrain team are worried after Newey revealed his prototype 2013 chassis leaves no space for the new turbo engines.
- Schu: Crash Test Successful: Michael Schumacher says the test of the crash absorption effects of the front suspects he performed at the end of Thursday Practice 1 was a complete success. "The wishbones were completely knackered, just as our models predicted," said the 42-year old German.
This Time Last Year
- 15 Teams Apply for the 13th Slot: The FIA report that 15 teams officially applied to take the space left vacant by the stillborn USF1 outfit. Most experts see the strongest runners to be GP2 ART and the Le Mans outfit Epsilon Euskadi. The FIA also make clear they may choose a standby team, in case HRT or Sauber have to withdraw due to financial troubles.
- Texas-based US GP Announced : Bernie Ecclestone surprised everyone by announcing the new location for the United States Grand Prix will be in a custom-built track just outside of Austin, Texas. The excitement of returning to the US dampened the frustration of hearing that Herman Tilke was in charge of the design and the shock that it would take place in the Texan capital. The race will be staged in 2012.
- HRT Ditch Dallara and Eye Toyota Facility: HRT have parted ways with their chassis designer, Dallara after only one year. Dallara pritt-sticked a car together in record time to get the Spanish team on the grid, but HRT are hungry for more. They are now eyeing Toyota's old Cologne headquarters as their base of operations and are keen on designing their own car for 2011. So expect next year's car to look totally different and not at all like this one.
This Time Next Year
- Pirelli Debut 'Deal or No Deal': For this weekend's Monaco GP Pirelli will start their 'Deal or No Deal' system of tyre allocation. Each Driver will eliminate boxes containing tyre allocations ranging from '10 sets of option tyres' and '4 options, 4 primes' right down to '1 set of those emergency spare tyres they put in hatchbacks'.
- Ferrari Team Withdraw from Monaco: The Ferrari team was forced to withdraw from the Monaco GP after their poor start to the season resulted in every single member of staff being forced to resign in shame. The only person to turn up was Mario Tostinelli, the man who shines the wheel nuts, who doesn't own a smart phone and therefore did not receive the redundancy email.
- Vettel: "Feeling Returning to Finger": Sebastian Vettel has said the feeling is starting to return to his index finger, only one month after surgery. Vettel's finger was accidentally severed by the chequered flag as he raised it in glory in Australia.
Morrrrrrning
(kind of)
Genius
:D
He has a cunning plan?
T'is in the daily - http://www.chainbear.com/images/spc/pit_lap_13.jpg
he's going to stop shouting "get the tyres out for Mark" across the pitlane
Great! More code to decode.... "Mark, the yellow dog has lost it's bone. The yellow dog has lost it's bone."
Is this some odd Lotus / Renault / Group Lotus / Danny Bahar analogy?
No, but it could have been, if the bone was black and the bone was burried under green grass.
Just leave it to Danny Boy. He'll find a way, or he'll convince a rich bloke that he can find a way
Horner: "Mark, stay out for another 25 laps as planned"
(Mark deducts previously arranged magic number from 25)

Lovely daily, Stuart! Ferrari must've really done a purge if Rob Smedley is now a Monegasque policeman. :D

Isn't that almost a carbon copy of this famous crash?

Couldn't be more alike if they tried.
Corrected.
Let's just say I'm a bit underwhelmed with this hotel.
They just changed the tv's 2 days ago and my remote doesn't scroll up and down the channels so I have to punch in the numbers. I don't have a guide to tell me what channel is what. Any guesses what channel CNN is?
Are you away somewhere for the weekend?
No idea where to find CNN. cnn.com?
Yeah, I'm in New York City for my life coach training tomorrow and Sunday.
That sounds exciting. The first big step in your new life
Yeah! :D It's been a really crazy busy week up until now, and it's gotten really hot and humid, so I'm going to head to sleep soon, but I had to catch up with you guys first.
Hot and humid sounds appealing. Looks like you are going to miss a lot of racing this weekend with Monaco, Indy and Kimi in Nascar
Just like weddings, career training should check the racing schedule! I'm going to miss Monaco AND Indy live??!?!??!?! AH! But my DVR is...oh my god, I forgot to set my DVR to record Indy. Oh, that SUCKS.
I guess your remote control doesn't work from NYC
all I can suggest is laptop, good internet connection and UK VPN ...
Hot and humid are awful to me. We can trade if you want.
Although...let me check DirecTV because I saw something about setting your DVR remotely.
:D
I'm still trying to find out how to get this service to set my DVR from here.
At least you have plenty time to figure it out
True. I can maybe tackle this tomorrow night. Being so tired doesn't help comprehension.
Better waiting till you are more relaxed and alert
Yeah. I have a long day of training tomorrow, so I'll turn in. At least F1 is all set to record, all the time. :)
Thanks for being here so I didn't have to talk to myself.
Good night from NYC, 1/2 block away from The Late Show with David Letterman's theater.
Good luck with your training
Thanks. I'm looking forward to it. I'll give you updates, of course, and you guys will update me on all things that go zoom.
I am sure we can keep you up to date with everything
I count on it.
Good night.
Good night
Ok, yeah, I found the app and just set my DVR in another state to record the Indy 500 from my iPod Touch.
I love technology!!! I'm so happy.
Ok, ok, good night for real(z).

A great way to start the day... thanks Stuart...
Morning
I was in the other room but I think I just heard Christian Horner talking to BBC News. That bloke is such a media *****
Does anyone have the current kick off time for the Champions League game today? I'm seeing 20:45 CET, on the UEFA site. Is that still accurate and how far off of UTC is that this time of the year?
Sounds good, it's 7:45 UK time [BST]
CET is 2hrs ahead of GMT during the summer
Thanks!
I'm wanting to watch it and hope I can get a good feed. I suspect I will be able to find SOMETHING. :)
Isn't that basically his job?
I invited a friend over to watch tennis, completely forgetting about qualifying. Might be a chance to create a new F1 fan. Although I will be watching jerky buffery practice since its delayed on TV here by 30 minutes, booo
I thought it was to win races but admittedly, he is doing that rather well
I just get sick if hearing his voice. He's the annoying kid at the front with his hand up, saying "Sir! Sir! Me, Sir"
Time for eggs and coffee before FP3
cool we do not have F1 race here but Red Bull demo with Jaime is on the way ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x68OHFx6s0k&feature=player_embedded
Ok, broken link, trying again:

no luck, no idea why ... anyway, the link in my last tweet works fine... they chose interesting location right in the city centre, should be good loud fun :-)
Will they be able to repair in time for quali?
Hi Constantin
Come join us in the Free Practice 3 thread
Sorry. Konstantin

Murray is about to start.
So much sport today, although Murray is on court soon and there's qualifying so I see another case of multiple screens coming along
Also, I am not very good at rally. http://youtu.be/3D0nV6-ztuI
Hehehehe!
close up of JB's new helmet design for this weekend
http://lockerz.com/s/105478778
:)
I'm going to go with the same philosophy as the last match for Murray - I don't know who his opponent is therefore I expect victory :)
Hehe, he's off to a good start but the way this tournament is going, whoever is a set and a break up is going to lose!
Indeed, you can't take anything for granted. Kim Clijsters is a prime example of such what-on-earth-just-happened-ness :)
Breaking news from the commentary team as Murray gets a haircut!
:D Funny piece of news.
Live thread: http://sidepodcast.com/post/live-monaco-2011-qualifying
First set to Mr Murray.
Yay :)
Terrible night's sleep in this hotel room. Between the A/C unit switching on and off all night and a super hard bed with super soft pillows I got a few hours sleep total, but not in a row. That sucks for today's training, and for how much I'm paying for this. And I'd like a window that looks out on something - anything - other than a brick wall. I'll ask to change rooms later on. This was not fun.
But I know today will be good regardless.

Djokovic wins! :) yaayyy!
42 consecutive match wins now.. how brilliant.
First visit to today's daily, like the cartoon. :)
The brass band I heard was on the green around the corner, they were practicing and the band leader was shouting instructions 'cos they were getting it wrong ;)
I came back because it started raining.
friend has gone home, she said after watching Perez's crash she feels bad about being upset when her favourite tennis players get injured because thats not as bad as knowing that your favourite drivers could be killed.
today marks 6 months exactly since he last lost. half a year!
that's crazzyyy!!
rewatching qualy I recorded off the telly since I missed most of it watching via stream, even though I'm not sure why because I don't really need to see Vettel get another pole.
Just inhaled a patch of ikea synthetic leather assembling a chair...
If i dont make it, you know why!
I'm re-watching it now because it's monaco which means the onboard shots are crazy :) (that and I want to see Perez's crash, knowing now that he's OK)
I don't think you are supposed to eat the furniture.
hehe
I dont know which pipe it went down, i couldnt get a bit of leather which was stuck in one of the screw holes out, so i sucked and instantly regretted it
Nothing makes me sadder than hearing about a book I really want to read and doing a search for it then seeing:
Your search did not match any products in: Kindle Store
No, I don't want the hardcover/paperback/audio book :(
My wife is in CO house hunting, and she took my iPad. Which I use to read my kindle books. So now I have NOTHING to read! *disregard those 100's of physical books I haven't read yet*
Doctor Who at the Proms on Watch... in case you are interested
Great to hear Perez is largely okay, with 'just' concussion and a sprained thigh. The concussion might see him miss the race.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91804
Kimi will start 22nd tonight
Hearing that Hamilton has lost qualifying time for cutting that corner in Q3 so grid drop - @legardj
Hamilton has had his qualifying lap time deleted for cutting the chicane in Q3. That leaves him 10th, but probably 9th on grid due to Perez - @NobleF1
wow, big news to return to!
Looking at Twitter there's all sorts of rumours going on. Now massa might be demoted too for impeding Hamilton?
Seems a bit late for these things to just be announced.
They had a GP2 race to deal with I expect
ahhh, this is F1. It's never too late to change results :)
If I'm writing a complaint email (outside of work) is it a good idea to include letters after your name or is that really stuck up? I've never used my accounting letters before. :)
I still haven't received my new phone. I'm borrowing Duncan's old SIM he's about to cancel. The company says it went to my old address but can't prove it, and I can't reach anyone there.
Not too dissimilar to Button, then. A shame considering he looked good for points, but what matters is he's okay and won't miss any more races.
I would say leave them off
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

Awwww.
my uncle got letters in the new years honours one year and I think they make him look like an idiot when he uses them :D
Very much so. Needed a bit of luck to go his way, but 5th is 5th. :) That said, I'd be even happier if he continues to do well tomorrow.
I haven't dared use them at work, and work paid for them!
Initial word is that Massa has not been penalized and will stay 6th. Waiting for official confirmation on that.
From Adam C earlier:
Heh. Haven't seen anything official, though.
May have to censor that me thinks ;)
Good point. Oops. Sorry about that.
Done.
I got my hands over my eyes just in time :)
Ta!
I'm in a Danish man utd pub to watch the game and I'm having fun, if a little scared!
It's official.
Great to hear Perez is ok though. Turned on the tv just as the crash happened.
Not bad considering he touched the wall on his first lap...
It was quite amusing as the commentators assumed he'd made a greater impact than he had but were suitably impressed after seeing the replay that his car control allowed him to catch the car and only brush the wall...
I'm hoping that's the only big crash we'll get this year. We've had a trend of 1 big one every year.
2011: Perez
2010: Buemi
2009: Massa
2008: Kovalainen
2007: Kubica

You could argue Webber in Valencia.
Glad Checo is more or less fine, shame he can't capitalise from his excellent qualifying position, but having him around for the rest of the season is the most important thing.
they won't move up will they? they'll be an empty space with Perez not starting as there was with Massa at Hungary.
Whilst not on the same scale as Massa's there was also Glock's in 2009...
The quoted ones are not quite comparable as Massa's was life threatening.... the others didn't stop the guys for more than an odd race...
Oh yeah. That one's more appropriate.
Seconded.
:)
True, but all of them looked scary for a while.
Getting ready to watch Kimi in his first Nationwide outing...

Evening all.
Oh how could you? Am doing the WRC live text so unable to pull off multi-tasking feat of watching Dr Who as well.
Don't read it! Don't read it!
Spoilers!!!!!
For anyone capable of caring, given the proliferation of motorsport this weekend, Latvala has lost the lead. Broken compression strut in his suspension.
On the restart Kimi is somewhere in the region of 20th, don't know why, must've dropped back in the stop. Has been complaining of hot feet..
That isn't all yours is it???
Is he out?
Trying to fix by the roadside with a shoelace or something.
At lap 50, Kevin Harvick leads Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth. First Nationwide-only driver Stenhouse Jr in 5th. Kimi is 19th complaining of a very tight (understeering) car..
Evening all
Shame about Latvala.
Looks like Kimi has the opposite problem from his truck race
Apparently they've loosened it up a bit.
Follow @Pressdog, @NateRyan or @Jeff_Gluck for updates from his radio. :)
Had a dig through the available feeds and this is by far the best quality

That was the only one which was working at the start. Links 2 and 3. I'm on 3 which is direct here http://www.justin.tv/6brian6#/w/1265078256/3
I am on 2.
There was about a ten second delay on that one
Kimi: "I am out of the drink again. It's so small. Mark has to make sure it's completely full, because it is too small."
Kimi up to 15th through the cautions
F1M: http://www.f1minute.com/news/sebastian-vettel-adds-pole-position-at-monaco-to-his-growing-collection
Kimi didn't do too well on restarts in the trucks but he's doing pretty well in Nationwide...
(Keeps fingers crossed)...
On T&S, Kimi is running a good 4-5mph faster than earlier. 172 avg compared to 167 earlier.
I think the problem with the trucks was that they would do 5 green laps so the tyres got up to temperature and the truck started handling properly then 5 yellow and it didn't handle. He was also very cautious when there were a lot of trucks round him
Do you have a link for that Pat?
http://www.nascar.com/nationwideseries/leaderboard/race/
Leaders are at 175 though
Thanks
You can't run that high Kimi
They are giving him a great talk-up...
Kimi's second ever race on ovals... first in this type of car...
It was the same last week. The closest they came to anything that was not positive were the mentions that he was worth $51 million.
No idea if anyone is watching the football, but Barca are out of this world.
I have been keeping an eye on the score and it is going pretty much how I expected.
I think the stats say the same thing, should be leading by so many more.
I have the yahoo/eurosport text commentary. After the last goal the comment was
Too good. Just too good. What can you say?
I've got in on for the NASCAR commercials but I think footie just isn't my game (or I can't multitask more likely), not getting into it at all.
At least we won't need to listen to any nonsense about how great Man Utd are and how they are the biggest club in the world for a couple of months.
All that bull has always been total fantasy. Same about the Premiership being the best league in the world
Yeah, best team in England being taken apart by Barca says a lot about the league.
You have to wonder how often that has to happen before anything is done about it.
Tangentially to this, I watched (part of) the Magners League finale between Munster and Leinster earlier and was amused to notice that the match officials are sponsored by SpecSavers.
Hahah, class
So are the top 3(I think) grades of football referees in Scotland. Have been for about 5 years
Drive-thru penalties for Kimi and Hornish Jr
I am unfortunately behind on this, then. I don't follow the round ball.
From text commentary
Nick Clegg is sitting next to Michel Platini, who looks decidedly unimpressed.
No politics Platini
My team was sponsored by opticians this season as well, we showed them as gentle reminders every time the ref messed up.
F1M2: http://www.f1minute.com/news/sergio-prez-ruled-out-of-monaco-gp-after-qualifying-crash
And Kimi in again to remove some debris from under the car
Shame Kimi had to make that extra stop.
How can anyone hand a driver an empty drinks bottle?
F1 2 minutes?
One question is finally answered, by @FTHurley..
Finally googled what Perky Jerky is. Kimi Raikkonen is sponsored by caffeinated dried meat. Yes, you read that correctly. You're welcome. :)
If only it were caffeinated BACON.
:D
It never occurred to me that beef jerky still existed
The whole idea of putting caffeine in meat is just bizarre
How could that not sell?
http://www.perkyjerky.com/
Red Beef?
Turkey Perky Jerky?
:D
It comes in other colours?
Don't ask the vegetarian! :P I just think Red Bull are clearly missing a trick...
Kimi is 28th, 3 laps down with a broken splitter
you didn't know what perky jerky was, all this time? :-)
I had an idea
Perky Jerky have Jerk Man
Red Bull have DC
it's covered
Barcelona beat Man Utd 3:1
Let Abidal lift the trophy as well, brilliant.
It's been an interesting few months for him
Awful stop for Kahne
hope Barcelona get done for criminal damage
Nice battle for the lead
]
What for?
they've cut the net down from the goal with a pair of scissors - odd souvenir
That was far better than last week's truck race
Chequered: Kenseth wins ahead of Edwards, a little way ahead of Kyle Busch and Stenhouse Jr.
Kimi home 27th, four laps down with damage and a speeding penalty. Was running a steady P15 until then.
Never seen that done before. At least when they Scotland fans took the nets they took the goals too
Another impressive drive from Kimi. Stepped up a division into a car he was not familiar with and handles nothing like the truck and still he ran on the lead lap just outside the top ten for most of the race.
Agreed, he did a good job in a different car, until he hit that debris.
Certainly did brilliantly in only his second oval race...
There's rumour he might do a NASCAR road course, not sure if that'll happen but it would be fun
I touched the walls a few times and it helped.
Did Kimi really just say that?
Interview with Kimi:
At the beginning I thought we had a good car, then over halfway the car was tight, and I hit the wall 3 times. Then it just didn't work at all and I was just driving around to finish the race.
What are your plans in NASCAR?
Now I'll go back to Europe and do a few rallies and see what happens.
Grrrr
Perhaps someone was being really forgetful?
Percussive maintenance :D
it's really odd to watch such a UScentric sport....
just not used to it....
That's the term
Seems odd to be going on about all the great racing tomorrow and no mention of Monaco. It may as well not exist
That struck me too...
I am impressed with the coverage Kimi got...
You get the impression Nascar would like him to join up full time.
RT @bobpockrass: Kimi Raikkonen car shows yellow paint from wall. #nascar http://yfrog.com/gy1damvj
I think he enjoys the racing but I don't see him going full-time...
It may make him wish for F1... but I won't hold my breath...
Night guys..
See you
Looks like gave the wall a good hit
Good night
would be interesting if he could do one of the same races as Villeneuve
I was reading through an old issue of Motor Sport earlier today. During 2005 Dario Franchitti told his team he would retire at the end of 2006. 2006 was such a bad season for him he decided he had to carry on. As a result instead of retiring with 4 races wins he is still racing with 3 championship wins and 2 Indy 500s.
Just imagine if 2006 had been a half decent season
That would be a must-watch
oh no, Schumacher will have to keep going!
He's already retired once in a manner compatible with Franchitti's thinking. Seeing as he changed his mind, he must be using a different philosophy now.
Evening folks
Good evening.
Hi ali,
How are you? Just catching quali now - looking forward to this

Hi Mav
I'm OK, thank you. Watched Doctor Who while having tea (I was swimming when it was broadcast) and am now relaxing while looking through a bunch of photographs someone's put up from the Nazionale Piloti football match earlier this week.
Sad news about Gil Scott-Heron yesterday - a big loss to music.
:(
I'm planning a big Doctor Who catch-up this week - I've falling far behind this season.
You won't fall any further behind for a while because it's not on any more until autumn :)
Don't suppose has anyone has an Indy 500 preview they'd like to plug do they?
Are you doing the daily?
#sidepodspace
Some great photos from the last ever shuttle astronaut spacewalk yesterday. I zoomed in until they were full screen size. The whole station complex looks more science fiction that real life when you see the shuttle just hanging off part of it.
http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts134/110528eva4gallery/index.html
I haven't read any but since I have spent a month watching practice and quali I really don't feel the need to read any more about it
no, just did an indy article and I thought a link to something about this year's would be good
I was thinking more for beginners really
Apart from the podcast, I didn't bother with a preview because so much was already written
No but there are tons around.
sure, thought I'd give someone here first shout
There must be loads of suitable articles on the net but I haven't seen any
Just occurred to me that someone should write a post for tomorrow. Any volunteers? :)
Just thinking the transition from Monaco to Indy will probably need to be seamless given the timing and build-up. Monaco finish at 3pm, a bit of a debrief, Indy coverage starts at 4 if not earlier and I do recommend people watch that build-up to really understand why everyone makes such a fuss about it.
I might get one in if I have time
The Nascar stream I was watching said their Indy coverage started at 11 eastern which is 4pm UK. When does the actual race kick off?
Always hard to tell with US races because they aren't always on the hour, but it should be 5pm UK
4pm coverage, 5pm green flag
I wasn't sure if they were going to spend 4 hours on the build up just to stretch it out.
Detailed schedule:
http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/indy500/eventinfo/42158/
I can't believe the world record jump attempt isn't during the live show.
ABC 11am ET. An ideal time to start watching would be for Driver Introductions at 11.30 (4.30 UK).
Evening guys. I introduce myself with a late Dr Who ping

Hiya bassano. apparently it's just a concussion and a small sprain, nothing serious thank goodness. No racing for him tomorrow as you can imagine but such a relief to know he;s OK.
A thigh with an over-stretched muscle.
Good thouhts for Ceco then, who's sitting in, no one I guess?
Seems an odd injury for that kind of accident
Too late for a replacement
Yikes - haven't got that far yet, but I'll guess I'll kop it when I see it. Not racing obviously with a concussion
Don;t think anyone can, it's before FP1 or Q1 I think when someone is eligible to step in, can't remember which
And all that privacy cover, I smell PR cover up
Q1, I think
Nobody can. The only candidates would be people who've done a practise session and the only ones who have this weekend are the 20 who were due to be on track.
They did the same thing at Silverstone when Schumacher broke his leg
a hamstring injury would be a sprained thigh
Ehhhh.... common practice for an injury in most forms of motor racing. It's to give the injured driver privacy while the doctors work
Could have been a combination of the collision and an awkward attempt to get out of the car, or even a combination of over-exertion before the accident and the collision itself. There's not enough information and too many possible combinations of cause to tell.
A force majeure candidate can step in if they did a practise session. Of course they would have to start from the pit lane but that's a relatively minor inconvenience.
In addition, it means that the medics can do their job without worrying that a camera operative, for example, might accidentally get in the way. It signals that there's no point trying to get a closer look at the driver, only of the sheet and what surrounds it.
Exactly
Shouldn't there be more info?
Maybe it's all they are prepared to release for now. Sometimes you just have to wait.
We know what the injuries are. That is all the information that is ever released
Is there a statement then?
I'm like Joe Average today, a little bit of info but not much
What's the latest?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91821
From last press release
"Concussion and bruised thigh. Hospital overnight. Not racing tomorrow. No indication it was a technical failure, team looking into it"
All I know.
I'm not 100% it would even be possible to differentiate between some of the possible cause combinations. The important thing is that Sergio has the sprain and he needs to recover from it.
So at 17:43 it was established that he had concussion
Stunning analysis
Also, you need to realise that they may not be able to give a full answer until over night after careful observation.
I'm more concerned about Perez than cause
And a statement isn't justified?
they've made a statement - concussion, sprained thigh, no fractures
Until they can confirm exactly his condition, then no, a statement is absolutely not justified.
A full statement I mean
Cos if it was Man U A N Other, I think I'd be getting on the hour forced tweets
he's chatting away, watched the GP2 race, wanted to race today - doctors said no
Well, that was my question. Thanks Mav
So.... Karthikeyan suffered a rear suspension failure when they started the car....? That's a brilliant one.
:)
Cos GP2 is too manic. Doctors orders :D
Agreed, but not to the point of minutiae. Is he alive or dead? Will he race again? The details is none of my business. Same thing with Bobby K, Zanardi Massa, Villeneuve etc.
I meant race tomorrow (but guess I mean today, now) - laptop clock running 3 minutes fast again
They had to check it was that and not compression (which is more serious and can initially present identically or near-identically), also that it wasn't masking anything potentially life-threatening.
That only happens in F1 for extreme cases (and even then it's not literally every hour; it just feels like it).
hey, you jump on the crank handle too hard...
:D
Between that and the mysterious melting seat from last race, I'm wondering whether Narain's car is a F111 at all and not simply a clown car with copycat bodywork that got delivered to Hispania by mistake.
I get that but my point is [from a normally very interested party, distracted today], how is he?
Not clear
They should really get more than bubble gum and string to hold that car together. I hear Staples has an offer on sticky back plastic right now
The implied answer was "no" the minute "concussion" appeared on the release - the recommended time for that with regard to race driving has been 1 week for quite some time now.
To answer a question from earlier..
@Fieldof33
Now dad is upset that the notice that came w/our tickets says race starts at noon but event schedule says green flag @ 12:12. #DontGetOld
We know he is awake and alert, he will no die from this, at least in the immediate future. There are possibly concussion-like issues. What more do you NEED to know? Would you like the results of his blood test? Sorry to be upfront, but what business is it of anyone, other than him and HIS family and friends?
You're not going to get that for a while - even with overnight visits (and it's yet possible Sergio may only be in for the one night), there's normally nothing from the driver who got injured until the next day's post-race press release (unless the driver happens to come back to the paddock upon release).
I think people have answered that several times in the last 15 minutes or so.
Seems clear to me. Injured leg, some concussion, he'll be cleared as safe to race in a few days.
well grands prix don't start at 1 o'clock I suppose
The additional fact he was able to tweet his thanks for the messages of support suggest he is in a more or less alright state of mind.
My point still stands, it's 10 hours since a serious accident
I'm a newcomer looking at autosport for news on a drivers condition.
How is he?
I'm not sure what you're not getting?
A bump on the head and a knock on the leg ought to cover it.
he's taken a bit of a knock but now has lots of nurses running around for him
A newcomer looking at Autosport would see what is currently the first item with a picture in the middle column of the screen, click on it and get as full an update as is usual for F1.
I get that folk here have info on the latest breaking news, I feel that the media doesn't care cos they 'know' everything is ok
I may be over blowing it but I'm thinking from a point of view of someone who saw it and was concerned but did't have access until now on his condition
Sorry to be argumentative but you being a (supposedly) newcomer has nothing to do with it. If you want to know if your favourite celebrity will live or die go watch Celebrity Death Match, Mixed Matial Arts or something else.
I am starting to heavily sympathize with Louise Frederickson from Grand Prix.

late i know.. (earlier than last week tho!) but full of lots of lovely links for you all :P
Lucky boy :D
And the short bit of news that Autosport delivered really ought to cover everything you need to know. As already stated, they may have wait overnight to have comprehensive results of his condition.
If you're talking from a 'newbie' perspective I suspect they wouldn't be going to Autosport but to somewhere like the BBC Sport F1 site which has it clear as day under the main story.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/default.stm
The story's been up since 5:43 pm. The story started appearing on my Twitter timeline a little earlier but that's the internet beating formal journalism for speed (given some of the things on my timeline, they did not beat it for accuracy!)
But again, Autosport does have his condition and we've been telling you it for over half an hour.
This is early for you :)
i was hoping i wouldn't get a reputation for being late on the internet but it seems even here i am always late :P
I disagree. I would like to know if a driver was in a favourable condition tonight after a serious shunt. It's not about celebrity or a life or death scenario
Is there a recent official press release on his current condition, assuring his fans of his recovery?
the FIA have TWO
http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/f1releases/2011/Pages/f1-perez-1.aspx
http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/f1releases/2011/Pages/f1-perez-2.aspx
Yep and I think Autosport reported on it at 5.43pm yesterday evening.
I'm on the Sauber Media section and it contains the info I said before. Which does assure me Checo is more or less fine and will be OK.
He was in a favourable condition at 5:43 pm, so unless something major had changed, there wouldn't be anything to report on.
Maybe it's me. I give up
Sorry for testing your patience, I feel I am not in the best position to put my point across
Peace and love,
B.
no problem
it's middle of the night though, no further news is good news in these situations
