The countdown to the Montreal GP continues but more importantly (to me at least) is the fact that South Africa 2010 is only 3 days away. And for all fellow tennis-lovers: Wimbledon is starting in less than a week. Or 13 days, to be exact. Despite downshifting, Sidepodcast is now bringing widespread sports coverage to the masses. But moving on to more pressing things like click-able links:
- A video interview of Sebastian Vettel has led Mr. C to label him mini-Schumi. I pffft at that.
- Red Bull has re-signed Mark Webber for 2011. Lady Snowcat highlights what I almost typo-ed.
- Joe chips in on the latest Red Bull news, and decides that Plum Park Hotel (what a delicious name) is a good place for a Silverstone gathering.
- Alianora has decided to challenge the impossible and define the FIA rules once and for all. Her start looks good, although it is just on the preamble.
- Leigh gets a head start on silly season and brings to attention how even Americans bow to the power of football.
- Apparently this is supposed to help in planning which games to watch. My guide is much simpler: watch Spain and Brazil and the final (where both teams will inevitably end up in). :D
- F1Wolf reminds us why the Montreal GP is definitely one to watch out for.
- Jon's dream job has just gotten even more dreamy. To Lou at least.
- Roger Federer has his retirement plan set in motion. First thing to do: secure even more money by tying himself down to a tournament for his remaining years.
- A discussion on technological technicalities has broken out over Apple's WWDC. I remain unmoved. :P
- Christine has updated her blog, so please go and read it! Her rankings have also been posted with drivers getting points for watching tennis. Rafa-lution!
- All good things must come to pass, people included. My greatest sympathies to the family and friends of Stuart Cable and Adriana Xenides.
- The obligatory self plug: for tennis, the Marina Bay circuit and just sports on a whole.
And finally I hope we can have a poll on which team is most likely to have a paddock bust-up. We need more on-track action guys!
hullo tuesday
I love Marilene's daily :) it's always such a brilliant way to catch up with everything :) thanks Marilene :)
That was nice to include stuart cable, nice one marilene :)
People keep trying to take my shift on Monday and ooh its tempting because 2am race=ouch but its a public holiday and I get paid at 250% of my normal rate. Why can't I get paid that much to have a day off?
Can't be midnight already
Me too
Amy... please don't kill yourself or make yourself ill with all this lack of sleeping... it scares me sometimes..
Its ok sleeping in on sundays + afternoon naps means i almost get enough
:) ah afternoon naps are good :)
right. speaking of sleep i must get some now, the junior school want me and the school photographer to go round for the 'grand opening' of their new buildings tomorrow.. i'm both excited and nervous they asked me to help and not one of their alevel students :D
night all! xx
Night Lou
Night lou
Hmm. Sleep. I need some of that - blasted helicopter kept me awake last night hovering nearby for about an hour. Night all.
Morning everyone,
I can sleep through helicopters because i've lived a block from a hospital for 4 years and gotten adjusted to the noise. Its handy,
Question, does the new start time for the Canadian G.P. (12h00 local, 17h00 GMT) suit Europe, or would a more traditional 14h00/19h00 GMT be preferred?
Hiiiii I'm still alive. I'm pretty merry....
wasn't it 1800GMT previously? i think it works fine
broadcasters used to get annoyed the the GP cut into their evening programming - 1200 local is a bit early on Canada's I would have thought...
drunk Alison?
I have unlimited free drink tokens so ermmm yeah....
sweet
tonight, i'm knocking back tea and enjoying this - http://twitpic.com/1uw0j2
12h00 is a bit-early-ish, for an on-site race.
Personally, I LOVE the usual 08h00 (GMT -05) races. By 10h30 I am ready to tackle the rest of Sunday. Nothing says F1 like waking up to watch a race.
:D
ooh, is it jeremy's birthday today? happy birthday jeremy.
Thank You!
Thanks to Mr Steven P Jobs for the presents this morning. What a considerate boss :P
:)
apple related, but also sidepodcast related, so i'll put in the daily.
the new version of safari has an interesting take on reading blog posts. check out this screenshot:
http://twitpic.com/1uwg9k
everything is stripped out bar the content (even the photo credit).
autosport website lets me view all the latest posts in an endless stream. no ads displayed.
full screen html5 video now supported in safari. mark webber's turkey preview on the homepage now able to be viewed huge :)
Happy birthday jeremy!
hi there...
and happy birthday Jeremy!
Happy Birthday Jeremy :)
mmm.... striping ads, could be. it's an option from the reader (customer) if he wants to see them or not. but striping the credits of photographs? that's very close to being illegal...
agreed. it's not what you'd call subtle. it just throws everything but content text and images away.
Morning
Spot on Mr. C. He's lost his fun, aloof side and become the serious, ruthless character we used to dislike...
WOW. That's "Information is Beautiful"-worthy. Check it out even if you hate football...
Mr Goat, what team is your team ? NZ or DK ?
In this day and age it is very hard to meet friend who has not got their phone on them. How am I supposed to know how far away she is!
Right, here goes:
Born in England with an Italian Mum,
Grew up in NZ,
Married a Dane who will kill me if I don't them
Sits next to Spanish and Argentinians who also have threatened me if I don't support them...
Turns out all my colleagues want England to lose, and we also had a big discussion about Argentina vs. Brazil. Fun times :D
well, I will support New Zealand, but only from their game number 2 :-)
;)
Happy birthday Jeremy!
Go Lewis :-)
Morning all. Happy birthday Jeremy!
Morning. I'm so 'Tuesday Tired' today!
You need to nap under the desk.
Hello everyone! Thanks for the lovely comments from Lou, Lukeh and Steven. It's a pleasure to do dailies for SPC.
And so so so sorry to Jeremy for missing out on your birthday in the post. I really ought to include a compulsory birthday clause for all the Tuesday celebrants so far. A very happy birthday nonetheless!
:)
You know what I mean though? Like, I'm always really tired on Tuesdays for some reason? Mrs. Goat reckons it's a sleep hangover from the weekend...
Don't worry. I always forget :)
thank you for giving somepod love to Montreal groundhogs, they will sure appreciate it and come out in numbers again this weekend :-)
MARMOT!
:D The cute critters.
well, when Ant hit one of those they first called it beaver on TV :-)
Todt talks! http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/84226
What a quiet president he is.
Doesn't make him any less awesome. :)
"FOTA may suggest that it decides, but the strong man is not he who speaks the loudest."
Awesome.
First trip to Le Mans 24 Hours this weekend. Any advice, dos and don'ts, etc. very welcome.
http://twitter.com/chrishughespr/status/15693284650
Hmm. Do track down Franck. Do kidnap him. Don't tell him I sent you.
i just had the wimbledon cake but didn't take a photo. What a shame, this means I will have to have it again one day
A Wimbledon cake?
Jeez louise, our World Cup sweepstake is complicated.
Morning guys :)
Hello hello.
Oooh. Care to elaborate ?
Morning Lukeh.
Just strop if you don't get Argentina or Brazil and then demand money back :)
Erm, assuming I understand correctly.
There are 20ish players and 32 teams. So the teams are ranked by order of betting odds, and the top 20ish have a ticket, and then the remaining teams all fall under one ticket. You get to draw out of the hat, so if you draw that golden ticket, you get more than one team but they are all rubbish.
I think.
Are France in it? I want France.
They are indeed. They still have quite a good team but just don't perform as well as they really should
#needsmorefranck
Morning
What happened to the simple version of "You get the team picked out of the hat"?
I agree. As long as I get France, I'll be happy.
They should do a motorsport drivers World Cup
Although I fear Bourdais would just take everyone out on his own team.
Also, the draw doesn't happen till Thursday. I want to know now!
Grrrr.
:D
indeed, from the lindt cafe :D
Oh yes! I remember.
They did - it was called A1GP and it rocked...
I dunno what it is with Ferrari's twitter. Most of their tweets make me feel like they are standing on a rock with the wind brushing against them exclaiming the tweet out loud
http://twitter.com/InsideFerrari/statuses/15694742535
I always seem to get the Crapistan team in these things!
we decided to make it more wimbledonny it needed the chocolate coloured green on top with a little spun sugar net and a little goat figurine to represent Roger.
Wow. Motorsport Magazine are interviewing Christian Horner in their June Podcast: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/series/footballweekly
Brave man, he's going to be grilled to pieces! Excellent series of podcasts though...
Sounds poetic. Weird.
It makes me think they are being all abstract and philosophical and musing.
A different sort of day for Felipe Massa
Link fail. Although that podcast is also excellent. Here's the proper one: http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/2010/06/08/the-june-podcast/
I can't wait til they start tweeting haikus
The wind makes the red stallion gallop?
I don't think Ferrari understand what twitter is really for.
Alonso has won
His beard is magnificent
Felipe retired
Faster Felipe
You are making Rob cry tears
Please don't let him down.
Awww.
the odd thing is every one I think of seems to be negative. Those crazy Japanese.
Franck Montagny
A true hero of france
Better than Bourdais
See, not negative :D
♥
as long as you are not Bourdais ;)
Hehehe!
Di Licious om nom
nom nom nom nom nom nom nom
nom he is pretty
:D
good morning
Hehehe. Awesome.
Morning Leigh.
goodness me. :D
I'm sure we have an F1 Haiku wiki page. We do!!
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/F1+Haiku
I'll have to move that over.
:)
Been thinking - if I do go to the Joe thing at Silverstone, I may even pop up to Silverstone for Friday only...
yay wiki! I updated the accommodation page with the exciting news that the motorhomes are fullllll. Very exciting.
Excellent. And with not a moment to spare either ;)
well the payment is due very soon! :D
I got a scoop from Crofty - no jacques to replace Ant this weekend :(
http://twitter.com/CroftyF1/statuses/15695803159
But they do have a link to him... who could it be?
Jacques Villeneuve Sr?
Craig Pollack?
Dannii Minogue?
Ughh, no!!
I hope it's not craig pillock :(
its ok, she's on my tv right now so I'm quite sure she's not in Canada :D
:)
careful now. these new fangled aeroplanes do mad things
shes rather pregnant though, I think she's staying put to find out whether or not Australia really does Got Talent.
i do worry about the people in those shows - must be great for one's self esteem to have your talents measured against that of a dog on national television
one of the girls just said she looks forward to seeing Brian in the carpark after the show. I think it was Mr C in disguise.
those fake moustaches' he wears are very deceptive
the other alternative is that two people in the world like Brian McFadden and that can't be right.
Hehe.
they're just about to launch an Australian version of X Factor and Ronan Keating is one of the judges. What is it with Irish musicians on Australian talent shows?
i've been arguing for years that one brian mcfadden is in fact a temporal anomoly that is silently ripping the fabric of time and space apart - what many don't realise is that it's Simon Cowell's ego that is holding reality together
We have strong exports industries
exhibit A. Riverdance.
Finally made it to the courts of Human Rights I see - at last!
at least he's immortal so we can rest easy
That's why he's obsessed with the knockout format. There can be only one.
As long as Dannii Minogue exists, no one is safe
Simon Cowell is from Highlander
Exhibit B. Guinness ;)
Guinness on Wiki ... admittedly, this nearly made me wretch:
Guinness in French Toast???
No no no no no no no no no no no no no.......
FOTA may suggest that it decides, but the strong man is not he who speaks the loudest."
Awesome. {Comment #54}
Great quote, shame about the way Jean implemented his thinking. If this was going to tender, it should have been sent out for it weeks, maybe even months ago. A decision is needed now due to design deadlines, not in six weeks time when a tender is completed!
Morning :)
I'm feeling surprisingly good today.
I dunno what it is with Ferrari's twitter. Most of their tweets make me feel like they are standing on a rock with the wind brushing against them exclaiming the tweet out loud
http://twitter.../statuses/15694742535
I don't think Ferrari understand what twitter is really for. {Comment #86}
I follow two people who think Twitter is for this sort of random musing. Surprisingly, they've got a massive amount of followers. People seemingly love random.
Excitable Tim again: http://twitter.com/JAIMEALGUERSUAR/status/15698007070
Bless him.
:D
Caps tim is great
Excitable Tim again: http://twitter...AR/status/15698007070
Bless him. {Comment #133}
Jaime just loves being a F1 driver, doesn't he? :)
I want to channel his excitement while I am on my trip. my tweets would be epic.
Very difficult to not like someone with so much enthusiasm.
Wonderful considering your excess
;)
Who can turn down free alcohol? I even got a free minibus home.
.
Sweet
I'm in a real pickle this weekend. I wanna see the start of Le Mans but I have been invited to the pub to see Argentina vs. Nigeria and then England vs. USA...
Don't mention it. Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I have had an excellent day. Buffet lunch (classy choice I made there) and then 3 games of ten pin bowling. I haven't bowled in years so of course I sucked, but I had so much fun!
Happy Birthday Jezza :)
The best birthday... In the world! :)
Happy birthday :)
Sounds perfect.
oooh! I saw Top Gear in Russian last night! They had the original audio overlaid with Russians talking... very surreal!
#stupidfootball :)
Dad wants me to play golf either Saturday or Sunday afternoon
you might be saved from golf by bad weather though
Here's hoping :)
Although we missed the weekend just gone too, which is annoying as it was sunny and I don't want to skip two weeks of exercise. His fault though, busy decorating.
It's what Mrs. Goat refers to as a 'luxury problem'...
Have you got one of those motorised bag thingies?
For a moment there, I though you wrote "thighs"...
Yep!
No, those are for lazy people. Or 'people even lazier than me' :)
We only really go to get the muscles working and we're in a hilly area. We do have trolleys to pull along though, we're not crazy enough to carry them.. yet..
I never saw the point of the golf cart, myself...
:)
it was original world rally car, before being usurped in the 1920's...
Good for older people (they can't walk the course, and barely hit the ball yet it goes further than mine do when I give it full power) and if you're in a hurry or you bring people to watch and they don't want a walk.
why do i get the impression they've just learned that f1 is returning to canada?
:P
Marmots!
just when you thought castrol rankings couldn't get any worse... a vodcast.
http://www.castroldriverrankings.com/vodcast/
wtf is a vodcast?
oh christ
Video podcast innit.
maybe in 2002, yeah.
why murray, why!
bizarrely, it looks just like inside track... only with murray.
Was just thinking that. Poor man must be bored..
Is it an alcoholic cocktail?
but it isn't a podcast is it? just a youtube video?
Look what Nick just sent me http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/cleaning/how-to-organize-your-fridge-048286
I think I might be winning :D
Ooh, that would be better.
Also, vodcast is so 2005.
i think i need one now
i wait i've found something worse. this is kangaroo tv's official podcast:
http://www.kangaroo.tv/podcast/Trackside/Audio/2010_023_Canada_Preview.mp3
can anyone with audio, tell me what's wrong with it?
Where's the beer?
Definitely not below the raw meat.....
I'm liking the spelling lesson
It;s like listening to Jackanory
Bob is an awful host and why oh why does it sound so odd?
:)
did they drown him first?
...in champange?
Is Bob a Robot?
I like how he seems to lose where he is in sentences and there is an odd moment of pause where he recollects what he was actually saying
Good god this is just awful. It is like he is reading a story, it really is.
I think he is randomly deciding which syllable to emphasise too which is rather painful to listen to.
Has bob ever considered applying for blue peter?
'Montreal is where I first got gout"
WHAT
midweek motorsport say the audio is fine. not sure is that says more about them or the audio...
is it all bubbly for you guys?
no way?! quote of the year :)
I just got to that bit and it just made me open my eyes so much.
Then something else following it but luckily that was a quote, not his own words...
It sounds a bit odd for me but it#s more bob than the quality
yes, that seemed a little unnecessary too. This is quite possibly the greatest podcast ever because it's just so not right.
Yeah it's a bit weird and robotic. MWM don't exactly have great audio in their podcasts either.
The content is awful thogh!
hmm, i'll record what i'm hearing.
Oh I'm just laughing now, it's like a really bad f1 story
it sounds odd to me, like they've ripped it from a CD in 64kbps bit rate or something.
Mika Hulkenburg?
Must run now anyways after that fun, a friend wants me to accompany him to the apple store and i will happily oblige :) see you all later.
I like the way he ends "All the best. Kangaroo TV."
It reminds me of Bob Dole.
i can't listen through the quality sadly. hopefully they'll fix it, sounds like a classic.
here's what i hear:
http://drop.io/kangaroo_tv/asset/kangarootv-mp3
am assuming it's the same for everybody?
yep
and midweek motorsport think that is fine?
Is it your tinnitus affecting it though?
Well their problems are more like
-Loud Segways
-poor connection quality
-call dropouts and line disconnects
agreed. i can listen to their shows. bob, not so much.
and taking far too long..
As in going over two hours?
Also, they seem to have a few server problems lately. Having said that, I haven't listened for a few weeks...
That, and being two hours in the first place. The podcasts have a lot of gaps that could be taken out
Oh I agree. The News in Spanish and some of the obscure news stories could easily be dropped.
Also, I'd rather they didn't talk about F1, as they seem to use the time to bash the sport and say that sportscars is much better...
Definitely. They have good contacts and interviews though.
Yeah - those parts are what make the show for me.
Video podcast innit.
maybe in 2002, yeah. {Comment #165}
In academia, it still does mean that. They might have been moaning that that was the formal term for one while I was studying (probably because there is no such thing as a vodeo or iVod), but strangely nobody seemed inclined to do the obvious i.e. come up with a better academic name for the concept!
This isn't a panda, or a tiger, but it's supposed to look like it: http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/48021000/jpg/_48021592_009476533-1.jpg
just when you thought castrol rankings couldn't get any worse... a vodcast.
why murray, why! {Comment #166}
Well, he did them for the BBC and remember he used to have a side job in advertising, so he'll know not to take the Castrol Rankings seriously ;)
but it isn't a podcast is it? just a youtube video? {Comment #170}
If it's a one-off, yes. If they do one every week... ...no, I'd rather not think about it!
back folks
:)
having a nice roll
this is kangaroo tv's official podcast:
http://www.kan...23_Canada_Preview.mp3
can anyone with audio, tell me what's wrong with it? {Comment #175}
It doesn't load on my computer - that's what's wrong with it! Come on, how can they get a simple thing like MP3 uploading wrong?!?
back folks
:)
having a nice roll {Comment #220}
Yum!
you'd be very surprised...
"Montreal is where I first got gout"
WHAT {Comment #189}
Too. Much. Information. (I'm assuming this is the podcast that's got something wrong with the audio that's giving out too much information).
right, but the frequency makes no difference. you can't get that video onto your ipod.
right, but the frequency makes no difference. you can't get that video onto your ipod. {Comment #225}
Nonetheless, the label, however inaccurate ( video + iPod + broadcast) , stuck. "Touchcast" or "Padcast" would have been a lot prettier as a name, but I can only assume laziness prevailed when it came to naming that particular concept.
i call cluelessness, rather than laziness.
for lou, lightroom 3 is now out: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom
V-Pod?
Vidcast?
I mean, it's a video, not a vodeo, right?
am going to go out on a limb and suggest either:
a) podcast
b) video podcast
given that podcast doesn't specify that it's an audio show, and there's no such thing as an audiocast, why complicate things?
Indeed. If video+podcast = vodcast, then by that logic audio+podcast = aodcast. Craziness.
agreed. and if your video is hosted on a video sharing network and isn't a syndication show, downloadable to anything. then it's:
a) a video
When have we known the Castrol rankings to be accurate and truthful though? They just claim to be, that's all.
I note that Rubens Barrichello is still better than Alonso BTW...
Heh :D
Does that fit the actual figures over the last 12 months?
Apparently so. And Lewis is better than Jenson somehow?
upside-down calculator
Jenson did have a lower key 2nd half season last year, while Lewis was on the rise. I can't remember who had more podiums though, or over the first half of this year tbh.
Hellloo!! Being a photographer is fun :)
How is everyone?
fine, lou
how are you?
I don't use lightroom, is it any good?
Going home in 10 minutes, so good ;)
freakin' awesome!
(i mean... y'know)
tired but I've had a good day so far :)
great! I only use Photoshop... How is it different?
best way to think of it - it's a workflow tool, which is designed to help you organise, select and optimise photographs.
final tweaking still needs to be done in photoshop, but lightroom is the best way of managing thousands of pics from a single shoot, and applying similar corrections to all of them.
kind of like flickr on you desktop, in terms of organisation, searching and metadata. but you get to colour correct, crop and tweak too.
this pic was edited solely in lightroom 2: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/4675049805/
sweet - am beginning to further consider my joe plans at the moment
ooh, the new version brings flickr comments back to your desktop.
I used Tweetdeck to bulk upload photos to TwitPic - you can do about 5-6 at once now...
didn't know that. that could save some hassle.
It could indeed. Although Tweetdeck gave me some message about reccomending Yfrog instead though...
they do video too, so that might make sense.
I'll try a few out and see.
ooooooo! i usually just use the windows stuff if i need to.... but thats cool!! :)
oooo!!
recommended viewing: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/getting-started-with-adobe-photoshop-lightroom-3/whats-new-in-lightroom-3/
long video though.
Joe mentioned Sochi in a previous Aside some while ago. He blogged it today: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/06/08/with-the-usa-sorted-out-bernie-aims-for-russia/
we were just discussing that last night :)
russia that is, not specifically sochi.
ooo! okay, i've bookmarked it for my 'post exam' to do list :)
Hmmm... with Aleshin testing the FV10 at the weekend, there does seem to be activity on the Russian front!!
"The beaches are lined with palm trees, but in the mountains behind there are ski resorts."
what kind of place is this?!
the alps??
they have palm trees and beaches in the alps?
Hehehe. http://twitter.com/dkgallello/status/15683775964
I think there's a place in Australia which is similar that way
a mad man's alps?
:)
crazy talk :)
:D
just done the world cup sweepstakes - i got paraguay
PARAGUAY!!
i didn't even know they were in it.....
People keep telling me that anyone could win it.
Wishful thinking I believe
:(
omg lou, have you ever tried tethered shooting? eg. connect the camera to the computer and take pics using your mouse.
huuuge preview :)
oooo!!! noo i haven't. it never even crossed my mind, that sounds fun though!!
*puts on post exam list* :)
what camera do you have?
my Dslr?
tis a Nikon D70s.. a good 3 or 4 years old so it might not work with it.
might work with one of my other digis though.
should do, our old 350d works. although not all features.
this is with lightroom?
yeah, new in 3. makes such a difference to evaluating previews, but only useful indoors :)
although i guess you could use it with a laptop out and about.
so fun to play with then :) am thinking it would be impractical for motorsport photography :) but could be awesome for studio work :)
if that laptop is mine.. then that wouldn't really work. :) given its battery life :D
it couldn't be less suited to motorsport photography. unless you were shooting scalextric.
:o! i want to try that now.. :)
Would it help stop us ending up with a million pictures of just an empty Scalextric track?
you have a scalextric? that's awesome! :)
it would :)
No, there was one at Autosport I think.
oh. i was going to come round with brownies to take pics :(
i'll go to autosport instead :)
and silverstone. all track, no cars.
(until the man turned it off for us)
could never get used to Scalextric - I was the Scalextric version of Taku Sato
If we had a Scalextric, the cars would be forever flying off the rock and into the sea. It would get very expensive.
i was assuming you lived in house on Rockall..the outside being bad and all that ;) just how bad is mr c for them to keep flying out of the window ;)
ide-esque
:D
Trivia Question time!!
:D
At the 1995 Portuguese GP, David Coulthard secured pole position ahead of team-mate Damon Hill, with a time of 1 minute 20.537
How far of the pace was the final qualifier, Jean-Denis Deletraz?
6.4 seconds
random guess
6.4 seconds from Pat - a good guess, but a little further out I'm afraid
11 seconds?
A quality guess from Mr C, but Delatraz in dry conditions was slower still than that!
was he on foot?
Did the 107% rule not yet exist?
it was a common joke at the time...
20 seconds?
The 107% was introduced because of this guy
A bit further out - shall I unveil the answer?
Heheh! It should be called the Deletraz Rule.
slower than that?!
A bit in I should have said
Yeah - we've been waiting longer than we would have for Deletraz!
Pole: David Coulthard - 1.20.537
24th: Jean-Denis Deletraz - 1.32.769
(+12.232 seconds)
blimey
Home-time.. off to write my game results into a blog post, and prep the Le Mans preview for here.
yep
see you later pat
mum has just told me she is going to attempt a heston blumenthal recipe.. i'm scared she might blow up the kitchen or something..

Force India say technical director Mark Smith will stay with the team until April 2011 before joining Lotus. Different chassis for Liuzzi
crickey that's a long time!
And I'm sure Mr. Smith will be completely on the ball knowing that he'll be moving to a new job... 8 months from now.
Gardening leave or is he still a member of the team?
not sure.
awwwwww i've just watched the Stirling Moss and Hammond thing....
I love Stirling. he is amazing. much love for that programme... it actually helps my psychology Alevel too! how awesome :)
And also a little bit scary. Angry panda.
always :)

Oh, you beat me to it.
:D
hehe!
The one thing I'm sad about not watching tennis at RG is that i wont get to see my name in big letters.. no shots with half the Afflelou sponsorship in the background :(
Yayyyyyy!! :)
I don't like murray's mum.... She's nothing like Jenson's mum
Ooo I didn't realise lotus have an iTunes app :)
me neither. any good?
just downloading it now, it promises live commentry of the races... I wonder if they have put in the Twitter feeds and things. I'll take a look :)
must be twitter
Yay for Murray winning! :)
Tickets to Joe @ Silverstone bought. I am so organised.
Best of three sets for men is confusing :)
thank you for organising me
hehe i'm pleased I wasn't the only one that was confused to start with :) yyaaaay for the other andy playing next :)
damn me living too far south!
Nooo...

btw I'm home now :)
hey pat.
this from williams man: "yep paddock is crap! same as always. But its good to be in Montreal again."
:)
Heh! You'd think they'd have done it up..
Did you see Crofty's tweet about their FP1 guest?
News from @5LiveF1, I can tell you the full line up for Canada now. FP1: joining me and producer Jason in the box - Patrick Head
That'll be awesome. I may have to watch that one if there's time. Which there won't be.
Oh I just saw the followup from 5Live, here's the full line-up:
So @CroftyF1 is joined by Patrick Head + Maurice Hamilton for FP1, Gary Paffett for FP2, Nick Heidfeld for FP3 and Paul Di Resta for Q+Race
I wonder if the bbc are flying maurice there just for half of FP1?
He is normally on tv in the studio over here
bbc can't get him a paddock pass i don't think? he must be working for someone so dropping in the box too.
He could use Ants?
are they transferrable? they have pictures on them.
A red wig and lop him off at the knees and noone'll be able to tell the difference!
hehe
I think so, otherwise what would they do if crofty or brundle were too ill to commentate for a weekend?
i'm not the person to ask, clearly. you could always tweet them, but if they were able to fly maurice all the way to canada, why not do it for the european races. much cheaper.
The bbc also subbed Eddie for Mike Gascoigne last year in China last year in mysterious circumstances
#WhyIsEJBannedFromChina?
Not usually... although the media ones may be different...
Most passes are just the plastic cards with chips in them that can be passed around...
I guess they have a budget with ant not taking the flight!
which passes do you though, there are several types.
*do you mean
like i said tweet them. i think you have it completely wrong, but that's just me ;)
The paddock pass i had was just a card with a metal top, i dont think i could access the media paddock though
so was ours. that won't get you into the comms box either.
Im not worried about it, i dont pay a tv licence, it just seems odd that hes at the race since he hasnt been to that many this year!
he doesn't work for a media outlet with a big enough audience to qualify. he did say though in bahrain he'd would be back for one or two races. i think he hinted at the last race of the year, not sure.
if he asks questions in the press conference, it'll say who he's representing.
if i were paying his airfair, he'd be commentating on more than one session :)
He has been on Abu Dhabi Sports for a couple of the races, also blogging for the YMC. I guess he could be getting in that way
the cat just dropped a half dead mouse on my foot. :( poor mouse :(
could well be.
The places where you can go are determined by the chip in them...
Some have access all areas (Bernies)... the paddock passes don't get you into the hospitality area of Paddock Club so you generally need two passes if you go to both...
Some passes will have media rights...
Bernie's security guys keep an eye at all the electronic turnstiles...
A real token of true affection...
What more could a girl want... thinks the cat...
right. but media passes have pictures on them: http://www.jamessnodgrass.co.uk/about_me/f1_pass.jpg
They do like giving presents. :)
Not a surprise given Bernie's stranglehold on the media rights...
not in the slightest :)
Daily's done for tomorrow...
Talking about passes what happened to the physio on the grid row?....
cheers matey
oooh, not sure?
Is the Fantasy Racers site down?
nope
http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/http://fantasyracers.com/
Ah. I had www... before it. Cheers!
i feel so sorry for the mouse. The cat has just gone back out again, I'm hoping she won't give us any more gifts today
i keep seeing pics of mikey on the grid with jenson, so... I'm not sure
Evening :)

wow... quiet here this evening
i call cluelessness, rather than laziness. {Comment #227}
That theory works ;)
Busy with house-y stuff, eating while watching some telly, now I'm sitting down with some coffee to do the blog things I said I'd do earlier..
In the meantime, this is an interesting read, on a US team's first trip abroad in order to race at Le Mans:

bzzzzt!
guest post ;)
Joe mentioned Sochi in a previous Aside some while ago. He blogged it today: http://joesawa...rnie-aims-for-russia/ {Comment #259}
This looks like Russia's most sensible mooted location for a F1 race yet. If Bernie can get the money off the Russians, that race looks like a goer :) .
I'm lining up a very special circuit profile for the European GP
Its like a tip jar :)
swear box I mean
Looking forward to seeing how Marco does. Mario never won the 24 Hours - it's actually one of the few things he never won in career
exactly. no-one's said it in ages. in think people got wise :(
He should do really well based on his Sebring experience. 24 is a different thing though. Hopefully they'll get a 'petrol class' podium.. There's an Autosport.com feature on him that went up today, I've yet to read.
Phew!
hmmm.... there does seem to be a distinct lack or written wordage here this evening....
Mr C!! Stop him before my head explodes!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
that's not a bad thing, if there's nothing worth saying.
hehe.
Where doth go the verbs and adjectives and assertive nouns be there may sir and madam?
it gets worse by the way

Did the 107% rule not yet exist? {Comment #306}
It came in 2 races after the 1995 Portuguese Grand Prix. Deletraz's slow performance was a factor.
legard:
Force India say technical director Mark Smith will stay with the team until April 2011 before joining Lotus. Different chassis for Liuzzi
crickey that's a long time! {Comment #323}
I thought you could only get gardening leave imposed for six months in the UK. This suggests that Mark isn't particularly desperate to leave Force India and that he's leaving because he likes Lotus.
don't know. there's more info to be dug on this one.
are they transferrable? they have pictures on them. {Comment #360}
Yes and no. Entities entitled to take people are allowed to bring X number of people each. All of them have to have their own pass. An entity can decide to take Person A instead of Person B, but only if Person B has a pass of the correct type. To get such a pass, Person A would have to prove it was needed. If the call comes at short notice, it may not be possible to get the beauracracy moving fast enough to get it issued.
You will notice that all the people who are replacing Ant have a pass issued by another source - Maurice because he's a journalist (I'm trying to remember if he's freelance or whether a paper would be bringing him at this time) and the others, being F1 reserve drivers or technical geniuses, are entitled to passes through their respective teams. I don't know whether this indicates a lack of organisation or resourcefulness on 5 Live's part.
The bbc also subbed Eddie for Mike Gascoigne last year in China last year in mysterious circumstances
#WhyIsEJBannedFromChina? {Comment #365}
If EJ's been banned from China, it must have been since 2004, if that's any help.
ooh, on cue, here's joe: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/06/08/mallyas-odd-views/
Force India boss Vijay Mallya says that the team’s technical director Mark Smith will be staying with the team until April 2011. This makes no sense at all.
i had yup.
neither. they have enough passes to produce their show and they've filled ant's slot using people who already have them. where's the issue?
Cute things!
http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/2010/06/prairie-dog-days-of-summer.html
nope
(well maybe, but still no)
Talking about passes what happened to the physio on the grid row? {Comment #286}
All I know is that some sort of resolution was reached and nobody seems to want to talk about it.
Evening all
I don't know whether this indicates a lack of organisation or resourcefulness on 5 Live's part.
neither. they have enough passes to produce their show and they've filled ant's slot using people who already have them. where's the issue? {Comment #422}
In that case it's resourcefulness. And having looked at that sentence a second time, I think I made a mess of the grammar. It should have read something like, "a lack of organisation or presence of resourcefulness" or something. Oops!

Good evening :)
ahhhhhh. with ya :)
hello!
hi lou
hi :)
I see Chandhok has started his Christine's rankings fightback by reccomending restaurants in Brackley

my cat did bring another gift for us... this time it was a scarily large wasp bee thing...:s
Does the cat think it is your birthday?
Evening Steven
"Karun's selection"?
Jon works in Brackley now, we need a report Jon.
we have to
podcast fromgo there.Jon can become the official sidepodcast Brackley food critic
no idea. she's been grumpy with me for days. maybe she's trying to say sorry. i'm just pleased she didn't drop the scary wasp bee thing on my feet.. that might have been painful.
everyone has been to brackley except me! :( ..
Christine could use it as her K for her A to Z trips
I haven't
Check that it's not a hornet...
They are really scary...
it was big, fat and stripy.. but not that fluffy. i scooped it into a glass and it's now out of harms way.
that makes me feel a bit better :)
i haven't been to brackley either
I am sure we had this same discussion last night
Get rid of it...
It sounds very like a hornet to me....
probably.. i just feel that everyones going to brackley.. i'm also in a desperate hunt to track down lukeh.. no idea where he has got to today...
it's outside. we threw it out of the window. nasty thing.
LUKEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see Chandhok has started his Christine's rankings fightback by reccomending restaurants in Brackley
http://twitter...ok/status/15691526590 {Comment #435}
I ended up recommending a restaurant in Sheffield to an ALMS racer via Twitter this morning; can I join the Rankings? ;)
Good on Karun anyway - and I'm glad this restaurant has spelt his name correctly :)
s'alright, he appeared on twitter. at least i know he's alive ;)
Headpings work on twitter? Mr C is re-writing the internet
he really is fixing the internet! :)
it needs it.
now i understand the reason for the downshifting ;)
:)
I think downshifting will be over soon. We now have sidepodchats, rumoured podcasts from Brackley and live commenting 27 different sports. I foresee a Leo like network based on live commenting sports and podcasts that result from them
get outta here!
It's just a momentum thing. You started sidepodcast doing one podcast and ended up doing many more and live commenting every session etc. Now after downshifting you have started doing one ten minute sidepodchat per week or race so the momentum will mean taking oer the internet in a couple of years
a lot depends on how interesting f1 is though. past two weeks have been interesting, we'll have to see how the season goes.
*i'm not doing a football podcast!
thank you thank you thank you thank you!
:)
exactly mr c - this is sidepodcast, not sidefootcast!!
(my work here is done)
;)
*i'm not doing a football podcast!
thank you thank you thank you thank you! {Comment #465}
Seconded with much relief!
They need to register sportscommenting.com and adapt the doohickey and LCLT. Could be big.
Or Le Mans, or the world series that is evolving from it, or IRL or tennis etc
Offsidepodcast, someone said last week :)
how about tennis? i hear that can be interesting ;)
RG and Lukeh would.
they would too
annoyingly catchy!
just as long as Lukeh didn't expect me to listen to it that would be fine ;)
i hear ya. i think though that playing with new stuff, like i did today ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/4682011375/ ), gets shoved aside when there's too much content generation.
research and development was non-existent between say jan and march this year.
Thing is, though, we made all that content so you could play with new stuff. It was just technical stuff not web stuff. Now we've changed focus, and will probably change again at some point. You're already scaring me with your iPad talk. It's just the way we are, flighty and fickle and open to anything, and we've always said that was the case!
I love that Tom Merritt and Becky Worley start their pre-show warm up discussions by talking about the stories they won't be discussing.
true enough.
apart from scaring you with ipad talk...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/4682011375/
I read that as panda tethering rather than camera tethering. Is tethering pandas legal?
You want another one already.
two more
I got an update from my panda adoption thing, and apparently the pandas keep wandering off and they have to tempt them back to the safe habitat with tasty bamboo.
Perhaps they should try tethering.
sure. zoo's do it to ensure christine doesn't walk off with them.
Mr C,
Did you catch the Hammond / Moss program yet with all the litepanels?
Is the iPad the new eeeeepc?
we picked an appropriate mascot!
ahh, not yet. i really must do that.
i totally get why you needed to change your focus. doing the same thing for ages when the subject your covering gets dull is not a nice way to spend your free time. Sometimes you just need to play with new stuff and spend time being totally creative. Being creative is awesome. :)
:D
it's better than that, it offers all manner of possibilities in a live environment...
:)
i think barcelona summed it up nicely, ten laps in and there were other more interesting things to be doing. i can see that happening in valencia too
What can you do with an iPad that is so special then?
what did becky do btw?
@leolaporte sorry for interrupting your show- learning
it's amazing. i watched it today and it was awesome! very well made, and Stirling was as usual brilliant! :) he said something about how when he had to stop racing he felt lost, which made me sad... I'm very excited that he's coming to goodwood this year! :)
She skyped into the studio and straight on to skypasaurus wiping out Amber Mac who was recording Net @ night at the time
firstly (and christine, you started this), it's silent. so i was using it during sidepodchat, and the mics don't pick up typing, or scrolling like on a mouse or keyboard.
you can hold it up and flip it over to show the camera stuff and christine and i can pass it back and forth.
oooops!
also, it's light enough to mount on velcro. so we could do that thing giggles suggested years ago. have him on a screen in the background, velcroed to the wall.
#justsayin
I thought the way they interacted with each other was great and the way Stirling analysed Hammond's crash was facinating. Moss got back nto a car way too quickly after his accident.
He actually did a season or two in the BTCC for Audi in the 80s
Ah. In that case, I shall bid you all goodnight before he starts signing us up for things.
Double-ping!
Game: http://toomuchracing.com/2010/06/08/tmr-game-week-20/
Weekend recap: http://toomuchracing.com/2010/06/08/weekend-recap/
*runs*
When I read silent I thought fan because that was the biggest problem you seemed to complain about before
I think starting the season in Bahrain with a rubbish race got the season off to a flat start. I think i started reading at one point during Barcelona.. i can't even remember what happened, i'm guessing a red bull won... I think the only thing that will keep me interested in Valencia is knowing i actually went there, stood on the track and on the podium! :) i think each lap i'll be thinking 'i've been there..' :D
the eepc's solved that, so i can't credit the ipad with doing it better.
Tethering pandas and velcoring Giggles to the wall?
It was an exceptional programme.
You are going to leave him here on his own?
Night Christine
Night..
you would put velcro on the back of your ipad?!
Morning all! Lou, I am shocked to hear you don't like The Judy! Or as one person calls her on my tennis site, Jusus.
he'd love it, you know he would.
I'm off too. Night everyone...
You could put it in a sleeve and put velcro on the sleeve
is he back for
the parade lapgiggles radio on sunday?one of them, sure. hence the need for three.
Night
Morning
bye all who're leaving
I didn't know he was going away last week so I am clueless on this
Morning
You learn alot about Moss's character and personality actually. It also covers a second side to brain recovery, which is what one of our A2 psychology units is based around. very interesting, i've already had a chat with my teacher about it and she thinks it's fascinating! so in a way i was actually revising! :)
Dunno, but he's just tweeted to say his Dad's on Twitter now..
Win win. Get to watch something interesting that is motor racing related and educational
i love it when the bbc do a documentary or special programme on formula 1.. they always do it so well. *thinks of graham hill doc*
night Christine!
ahh, cool. maybe he's back already.
GIIIIIGLES!
Amy! she seems like a horrible woman.. i prefer sporting mums to be like Simone. :)
also.. i totally forgot how much queens tennis rocked! i love it! :)
he said a few weeks i think... when we were chatting to him in the pub last week i got the impression giggles radio was going on a few weeks break.
ahh, poor timing, it would fit in just before the start of the race too.
you.want.THREE??! i would be happy with one.. Kat seemed desperate to make a patchwork cover for Alex's maybe she'll make one for you too? with velcro on the back?
want? no. i said need.
:)
(didn't say we could afford any more)
He tweeted this earlier..
http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexandronov/4682577489/
yes.. that's right.. Kat eating chocolate broccoli....
It would slot in nicely between the Le Mans finish (2pm) and the F1 (what is the BBC time, 5?).
There is a World Cup game at 3 but it is only Serbia vs Ghana, you'll be hard pushed to find any takers to watch that.
you need three?.. so when they bring out ipad 2.. can i have one of the old ones? ;)
why would you do that?
Gooood evening all
for live shows yeah. could use more, but three would be minimum.
Evening..
i'm guessing it was Alex's influence...
Hello!!!!!
*must.resist.temptation.to.ask.about.Shov.*....
:D
He wasn't there, none of the engineers were, i guess they've gone off to Canada already
I was not a fan until I read her blog, its so funny. She seems a lot friendlier than she comes across on tv
Hi Jon,
You have been volunteered for a special mission
http://twitter.com/karunchandhok/status/15691526590
hahahaha, LEGEND. The guy next to me has a mug from that curry place
yay! tomorrow?
umm, probably not but definitely at some point
oh. i'm guessing i don't know any of the other people in your office...
.. so.. how was JB's Brawn car?.. still in the brawn livery? :)
she has a blog? oo can you send me a link when you get home from work :) ? i don't like disliking people but she always seems to act like one of those pushing parents on tv..
Amy,
Tom Merritt on TWIT is wearing an All Blacks shirt. Just noticed the fern
dont worry, neither do i ;)
......
I think that means it has been repainted in Merc colours
I think there'd be uproar if that happened, and not just from lou!
you said.. yesterday.. *finds comment*

i was just checking they hadn't painted it silver or anything. ;)
good times. so i don't need to come down to brackley with pitch forks all angry :)
:)
careful you don't get yourself into trouble, jon. brackly ip addresses have ears...
I know i said it...
*face palm*
its still white dont worry...
dont worrys, im not saying nofink (more ;) )
anyway ,i had a great day. how are we all?
this can't have come as a shock to you ;)
good :)
now we shall stop talking about brackley.. the wonderful people they are, before i get too jealous.
really good. i discovered camera tethering, it's awesome.
what in the what now?
You need to write to Brawn and say you are shocked that they have had the championship wining car repainted in Merc colours and you will only believe they haven't if he invites you to see it
aren't they lovely. never had a bad word to say about them or their open day.
...
...
bugger.
must.resist.downloading.lightroom..
Blog is at www.lta.org.uk/parents/Judys-blog i think. They recently changed it so most recent entries are at the bottom which is quite annoying.
attach camera to computer and take pics using the mouse.
preview images are massive, compared to a little viewfinder.
hahaha! :)
i would like to point out i always defended them :P
ooo!! thank you Amy! :)
that is true.
#apartfromwhenmichaelcame
and Jenson left and Rubens left and they changed the clours to silver and
and when Nick fry got his beard
i defended them through the awful awful years! i did so well!.. that was the last straw. I still love them.. just i don't like their drivers.... or the fugly car they have made out of the beautiful brawn :D
ah come on.. that is hard to defend! :P
still heart the people.. just hate the name/car/drivers/lack of Jenson ;)
although, i bet we could find some critical comments from your good self... and they employed you.
of Michael? critical yes, hate/intense dislike no
team brawn i was thinking
and probably honda.. people didn't like the earth dreams thing alot ;)..
probably, but im critical of everyone when i dont agree with what they're doing/decisions they've made. im biased in my negativity :D
hate the layout of the blog (who puts the latest posts at the bottom?!) but Judy appears kinda normal and nice.. Thank you Amy! :)
#amythetennisguru
ah yes, but they really were rubbish
#mfc
Just mentioned on TWIT. Guy got a speeding ticket and then found out the police department's url was up for renewal so he bought it and posts stuff about their speed cameras
http://www2.tricities.com/tri/news/local/article/anti-speed_camera_activist_nabs_bluff_city_pds_expiring_web_domain/47244/
i said some awful things about that livery and they still let us sleep in their tent.
mind you, i said more uncomplimentary things and they gave us a breadbin... hmmm.
heheheheh
YOU HAVE A HONDA BREADBIN!?!? how did i not know this!!!
I wish I'd been blogging then, I'd have been given a car.
It was a cardboard tent that looked like a breadbin. There have been several shows about it
and nearly killed Christine :(
but honda are awesome.. i even have a honda jacket now :D (not an f1 one though) it's brilliant! :)
http://sidepodcast.com/2008/07/08/cardboard-city/
we do however, have some honda deckchairs.
"ah Mr Pat, you seen to have an intense dislike of our livery, Which Honda would you like?"
:)
hehehehehehe!! *cough* Silverstone 2008 podcast ;)
ooh that, i knew about that!., i thought that was the tent?
want!! :)
yeah i knew that, but he said they let them sleep in their tent, so i got confused
She blogs about how attractive the spanish players are and calls feliciano lopez"deliciano" so i can't not like her :D
tent was the first year.
ah ok, they really loved you guys.
they stayed with Honda twice (i totally should have started a podcast about honda in 2007).
Do you have an auto reply of want!!! set up? First it was iPads and now...
:D
and still complained endlessly about them :)
S2000 pls.
hehe no. i did find a bar honda f1 umbrella in mum's car yesterday though and i was very excited. i'm now in the mood for collecting Honda stuff :)
Did Joe take it down? There's only the first four comments up there.
Interesting. Lurking? :)
"Good choice sir. Here are the keys, happen ranting"
There is quite a bit of honda merch in the clearance room at the melbourne f1 shop. I wonder if any is lou size.
aren't you a few years late for that?
:)
:)
:)
i totally should have had a blog. I defended and loved them until and past their dying day... and well.. i got nothing. (except a JB signed postcard thing)..
you openly dislike them and they invite you to go posh camping with them and meet crofty.. sit meters away from Jenson and Rubens and provide a free bar.
not.fair
;)
It was the first comment
legit then.
Heheh :)
shall remove from ours.
T'is gone now
you gotta blog more often. good things come to those who blog.
apparently so. although all of my merchandise i own is from teams that no longer exist.... it would feel wrong buying a mclaren t-shirt now.. and i'm not sure i would have the heart to.
I bought a Honda t-shirt and a few weeks later they pulled out...
I bought a Brawn t-shirt and a few months later Mercedes bought them out. I not fond of Mclaren but i don't want them to leave! ;)
it was a strange way of saying thank you, i'll grant you. but i doubt they knew much about us really. we were with usp content, who should get all the credit.
Weird story of the day:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/7808862/Band-arrested-after-illegal-immigrants-found-hiding-in-speakers.html
There is a nice jaguar jacket in my size at the shop but i can't bring myself to buy it because i was never a fan of theirs
i have loads of blog posts i need to complete it's just finding the time to sit and do them, everytime i do i feel bad i'm not revising, so revise at the moment.
Stupid thing is i was just about to buy a domain for a brawn gp blog thing following them this season when Jenson signed with Mclaren.
#buttonsfault
i think i need to come to melbourne.. it seems to have the best things..
i know! it's totally his fault! although, maybe he was trying to help me save my alevels? :P
If I didn't know better I would think Tim had taken over fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadals facebook page. His latest status update is all in caps and contains no less than 17 exclamation marks.
Right, I gotta run, this early morning stuff is rubbish, you cant stay up!! Night all
night Jon!
I assure you it is more than possible to stay up and do early starts :D
i'm off too
should e back tomorrow at some stage
:)
night
night Leigh
Just saw that ladies' response from Joe's site - it's not actually on the page, but it came in my "follow-up comments" e-mail.
Interesting indeed.
(now i'm definitely off)
Bye leavers... (am doing more blogging)
