Gimme an F! Gimme a riday! What does that spell? Friday! Yes it’s another daily here from Lukeh to take you into that final day before the weekend and guess what?! Remember that Formula 1 sport? It’s back today after a 3 week hiatus! Wahhooo! But there’s plenty to discuss before we go rummaging off to Catalunya. There is F1 news and non-F1 news to analyse, laugh at, be confused about and point at in a scared fashion. So, what can we discuss today?
- Might as well kick it off with some Formula 1 news. The Ferrari-Marlboro ridiculousness went to new levels yesterday as Ferrari revealed that they have decided to get rid of the barcode on their car. Does this mean that retail items across the world are actually advertising Marlboro? That’s some sneaky advertising from the cigarette giants. Nevertheless, to escape the silly design they’ve opted for now, I’ve created an idea for the Ferrari lads to implement on the livery. It fits in very nicely.
- If you are going to be watching Free Practise sessions today then make sure you come and join us in the comments and dedicated live session threads that will be available to comment in when the sessions arrive. Even thought our wonderful hosts have downshifted, they have still kindly provided us with the times of each session and much more. It’s so much fun watching these sessions, qualifying and the race with the many comments accompanying and many hilarious and brilliant F1 fans watching alongside you in real time. As I am not working today I’ll be in the comments watching practise and I hope you can join me!
- On a more personal level, I’ve been looking at Photoshop Cs5 this week and having my mind blown by the content aware filling feature. It’s quite a staggering feature and definitely worth trying out. Sidepodcast has been changing in appearance over the last few days too with a gorgeous new header and the fonts have been changing as Mr C experiments. You could say that he’s finding this experimentation fontastic fun.
- Finally, there’s plenty to take a look at on the blogging side of things. Once again Christine has posted an excellent update in the Life in the Fast Lane saga, something that continues to be a totally worthwhile read. Leigh O’Gormanhas an excellent interview with the legend that is Karun Chanhdok, the man I am tipping to win this weekend in Catalunya. At being awesome, I mean, not the race.
I wholeheartedly apologise for the earlier font related pun. I’ll make sure I’ll keep a good daily post at the forefont of my interests.
So that’s me for another Friday. Hopefully we’ll be treated for a good Spanish Grand Prix this weekend and get another fabulous race to watch on a Sunday Afternoon. There’s plenty of racing including the start of the Rally of New Zealand today with the WRC so let’s hope Kimi Raikonnen shows another impressive performance and mumbles his way to another solid finish. That’s it from me. In the comments is where we shall meet at a future point set in time.

it doesnt have to be majorly complex in the way facebook is. basic profile page, member search, ability to log in/sign up/upload photos and then slightly more advanced stuff like admin and moderators. Thats basically it.

admin might be trickier. search is easy, photo upload also not a problem (assuming it doesn't have to work from a mobile). it's just mysql tables and php to read/write into them.

I have some feedback on this. Perhaps next time the rule should be in the Daily. It wasn't clear to those not around when you said it before and people weren't going to comment-trawl to check when in the middle of a live event. When it was mentioned that it might not be liked, it was dismissed because it wasn't party-political and was (mostly) a neutral discussion about the system.
IMHO there needs to be a 'commenting rules' page in a useful location or this stuff will keep happening.

how easy is it to create meta tags in php for what im doing? ie. say someone uploads a photo of their marriage, would it be easy enough to have meta tags for say marriage, special day, etc.
Problem then i'm thinking is having standardized tags for what people input - some people might put wedding, some might put marriage...
heh, the curse of letting people enter their own tags :)
depends how complicated you want it to be. if people can add tags, they'll also want to edit typos and remove old tags. so you'll need to account for that. not impossible though, you just need an input box and ask people to separate tags with commas. in php split the string at the commas and insert each into an new row.

Something strange just happened in Fantasy Racers.
Kamui Kobayashi's value descended so low that I was able to put him in a supposedly unchangeable Strategy 2 team (LCM Fire Lizard) despite nobody on said team (which had the Force India and McLaren drivers) being injured or otherwise unavailable.
Other changes made to my teams are the replacement of Sutil with Petrov in LCM Dragons and the replacement of Alonso and Hamilton with Button in LCM Caro.

Except for the time I had some at the dentist's, the most a "painkiller" has ever done for me is take the edge off certain kinds of pain. It tends to be very obvious if I do something to aggravate an injury. Also, unless it's soluable, then the pain involved in swallowing it is worse than the relief I get from the tablet.

Migraines are not just headaches. The headache you get is generally over one eye and you get weird flashing lights effect. You also throw up a lot and get very sensitive to light. I used to go to bed for three days in the dark
i've never had a migraine , but a close friend suffers a lot, dark chocolate normally brings hers on, as well as stress

I was always told that chocolate caused mine. THe theory was that chocolate or cheese caused them. In my early twenties I heard an American doctor rubbish that theory and said that although those two things always showed up in studies the real cause was low blood sugar. Low blood sugar makes you peckish an when you are peckish you go for something you can eat with your hands like chocolate or cheese. Before I heard that I used to get half a dozen a year for about ten years. Once I learned to control my blood sugar I stopped them completely and have only had one since.
I got so tuned into my body I know exactly what it wants and whatever it tells me it wants it gets regardless how ridiculous. As a result I am almost never ill.

Looks like he's on one of the older Gran Turismo games, which doesn't have the cockpit view. Only behind the car and on the floor.
he kind of has his own cockpit with steering wheel tho...
