It is Tuesday, and it is British GP week! I haven't been around here much last week (GERMANY!) but now that another race is coming along, Sidepodcast shall be my homepage. Hopefully the momentum is back with Red Bull now and home advantage won't count for that much... But let's recap what has happened yesterday with the bulletpoints:
- What better preparation for the actual race than having your burning F1 questions answered? Join Pat W and Lukeh-and-Lou's experience as well as having a look at the pictures here and here and here and here. Phew.
- Experience the awesomeness that is Red Bull Racing by joining in the competition here. The only down point to it is Bastian won't be involved. I am sure you'll see him hanging around anyway though. ;)
- Speedhunters have come up with a fabulous showcase for people wanting to go pro with motor sport photos. They are also offering to answer any questions about lenses, cameras and getting that perfect shot.
- Christine's rankings see three drivers joint top! And we have someone getting negative points for being Mr. Grumpy... Other Christine ping here.
- Something revolutionary has been happening in Sidepodcast. Are you watching?
- It is half the season and most agree a certain someone should not have returned to F1. Will he see sense now and return the seat to Nick?
- Talking about race seats, Webber is given Bastian's 'faulty-but-repaired' chassis. Is he officially the 2nd driver now?
- LewHams and Fernando are pretending to be friends again. I don't see how anyone would buy it. :P
- Anyone else is my part of the world, feel free to join this competition. There are some tricky questions, but it shouldn't be all that bad for any Sidpodcast regular/lurker.
- In other sports news - apparently David Beckham wasn't at Wimbledon to support Andy Murray. He is really there for his fan Rafael Nadal. There has also been write ups on what went wrong forAmy's king.
- Can't get enough giggles from the radio? You can always try another medium.
Have a lovely Tuesday, and see you around (in the comments!)
It's a new day apparently
Great daily Marilene but the final link is a page not found.
Ooh Kait plug

oh. wow. i officially love lewis and jenson. i just need to get that out there. now back to work.
Dear euro exchange rate, stop going down, start going up! I should have bought my cash last week. Not pre planning is expensive :(
for me it would be enough if the Euro made up its mind finally and decided which way it is going to go
Its gone down 5 cents in the last few days which really adds up over thousands of $. Boo! Have your Monza tickets arrived?
they will not arrive, they are waiting for me in Europe with my friend :-) but my plane ticket is done
Thanks for the plug in the daily Marline :)
Er... Marilene... What on earth happened there... stupid auto correct!
Morning :)
When is the next book out Alex?
Up early? :P
:)
Ahh ok, I wonder how far your seats are from mine #sidepodstalks
well, I do not remember when was the last time I actually watched the race from my designated seat :-) I always move somewhere, from where the best pics can be taken :-)
Heheh fair enough, I am far too lazy for that
Dear Amy, queen of being organised. Please tell Nick to ask for some time off work so we can book a holiday!!!
few days ago I watched air crash investigation on NatGeo, the episode with helicopter ditching (landing on floats) in the North Sea. I found it quite amazing that helicopter actually can do that. Then few days later a HK to Macau helicopter did the same in our lovely sea traffic busy Hong Kong harbour...
Heli in the water 1
Heli in the water 2
Dear Nick, take some time off work so you can book a holiday.
Both cases are very lucky. Sadly, it doesn't always end like that which is why we are trained to escape from one which goes under. They take you to a swimming pool, put you in your survival suit, make you sit in a helicopter fuselage and then lower you in the pool and tip it upside down. If you can escape unassisted and without the need for oxygen, you can go offshore :)
It's not working :( I have to wait another week... I found flights for the bargainous price of £740 though and I want to buy them!!!
where are you trying to go?
Brisbane
for someone who doesn't like hot places, you're good at picking hot holidays :D
I'm not moany about it though. I'm coping here fine. I walk outside to/from the train without complaining. Parasol = best idea ever!!
eheh my swiss friend just emailed me:
any things you really, really wanna see or do while you in Switzerland? (apart from meeting Roger Federer, which I might just not quite be able to arrange)
I am so predictable :D
I want to see you re-enact 'The Sound of Music' :D
Yay, synchronised hair cuttage on Saturday - Mrs.Goat gets hers at 8.30am and I follow at 10.30 (by the same person) :)
Morning.
I see there is football today. Do we have anyone signed up for World Cup posting?
thats still going? jeez!
I dunno why the gaps are so huge now. One match today, one match another day. They could get it all done and dusted today if they really tried.
It's to wean you off the addiction to daily football matches...
Ah. That happened a long time ago :)
morning. I'll do it soon if you like
I think the more I watch this world cup, the less I enjoy it!
Ooh, yay. There's no rush cos I don't think it's on till later. Thank you :)
I like it but I only have so much time for stuff and I think I invested too much in the earlier games.
Having said that, I liked it when they were playing the earlier rounds because in these matches, as soon as someone scores a goal they get all defensive, whilst the other teams almost bring their goalkeepers up to try and score.
I think it should be more like netball and only certain people are allowed over certain lines.
19:30 BST, in fact.
hi everyone,
Cheers for the mention Marilene, but was that supposed to be a link in the daily or just my name?
:)
Am in the process of fixing it.
Oh cool....
how doth be Christine this morning?
Happy happy. Quite tired, though. I was blaming the weather but it doesn't seem so bad now. How's Leigh?
It's weird - I have felt very tired the last few days and I have even been sleeping well ... 10pm till 6am last night and still I feel exhausted today...
A little tired - just over my cold now I think. An eleven hour sleep last night to kick the last bit of remaining exhaustion was the final trick
:)
Ooh, good. Back to the real world then, boo.
Unfortunately yes. Weirdly, a guy down the far end of my office broke his shoulder and ribs in a drunken stooper over the weekend and still came in yesterday - in agony and unable to speak
That's quite the drinking session!
He's actually stranger than me - he doesn't agree with the smoking laws in the UK, so he goes to Spain or Greece every two weeks to get smashed
Everything you ever wanted to know about the BTTF thing, in case you were still confused: http://www.worldcorrespondents.com/july-5-2010-back-to-the-future-destination-time-is-a-hoax/886926
Literally, in this case!
(ba dum tisch)
:D
sounds like something you have tried already
Not personally - just know of people who have ;)
Crikey. I'll stay onshore thanks.
I always wanted to try the helicopter trip from HK to Macau, it is 15 mins instead of 1 hour by ferry, but it also costs almost 10 times more, so ferry always wins hands down. but to be fair to choppers - there are some mishaps with ferries every year but this was first time something happened to the helicopter
That's probably just because of the number of ferries compared to the occasional chopper though...
not really, the helicopters fly non stop, it is regular service
ROB! http://twitter.com/lisamccormick/status/17855020952
bah! you beat me :)
will he sing Felipe Baby ?
I'm working on it!
I miss Rob. Stoopid Massa not fighting for the championship.
i can't record this one today, hopefully it'll be on iplayer later.
Although a NASCAR piece, this is a nice post about the insane pricing of hotels around race time from CloseFinishes.com - worth a read
:)
http://www.closefinishes.com/cgi-script/csArticles/articles/000013/001306.htm
is lukeh around?
not that i've seen
oh, hello by the way
:)
no probs. lukeh, when you read this, i've just emailed you something.
I am around, sorry. Just editing photos
Oki doki *checks email*
What an honour!
I haven't got it yet (unless Mr C is actually Nokia spam) but I'll keep an eye on my email anyways
Ooh I have it, thanks Mr C.
sorry, the comment was written assuming you were reading back. i thought the headping was knackered. sent now. yell if it makes no sense.
:)
As I say I'm just going through photos and editing and I'm sure this will sound very odd no matter how I say it but Tony Jardine is a man who goes very well with the aging process. It'd make more sense with the photos I have but he is very photogenic.
Tony Jardine is great - ITV was always worse when they replaced him with Blundell
Hello
agreed, really used to enjoy him on ITV's F1 coverage. I;m amazed the bosses must have thought Blundell would be better than him wot with his well worthy speech wot he has.
That is quite ridiculous. Joe has talked about the F1 rates, I never would've expected it for NASCAR
Ooh Mr C! I must say that plane was awesome. I noticed Pat uploaded a video for you so yay!
I liked the roooooooaaarrrr it did.
:)
He ended up on Sky's A1GP coverage, also featuring Oliver Jarvis (DTM driver) who mimiced his style of speech perfectly, I bet Tony trained him.
There's no easy way to find a tweet from November, is there?
didn't realise the virgin camping thing was at branson's old school: http://www.virgin.com/richard-branson/blog/looking-forward-to-the-british-grand-prix
old school f1 ;)
google has archived most things from 2010 onwards. is it on your own account, or someone else's?
Erm, both. I think perhaps it doesn't matter. Too much effort for no gain.
Fantastic plane. I liked it when it was slowly overhead then ramped up the engines from low to high power, great noise!
I got a 2nd video at home and earlier in this thread I posted 2 photos
mobile twitter takes me back to march: http://m.twitter.com/account/profile.mobile?page=160&user=sidepodcast
that's the best i got.
Its comments like this that will fuel those who think Pirelli will favour Ferrari
"Montezemolo is right, because in Valencia, we had a chaotic situation which did incredible damage to Ferrari." - Marco Tronchetti Provera, president of Pirelli
http://europeanmotornews.com/2010/07/05/tronchetti-provera-“montezemolo-is-right-about-valencia”/
Thanking you.
I have a video as well when Lou and I were stood by the house watching it. Although I have a feeling it'll include me going 'That was it?!' then the engines coming on and going 'oooooooooooooh'... but I haven't seen it yet so I don't know.
there are some advantages to not tweeting as much :)
Heheh. We must've been fairly close at that point, then.
Indeed. I never really noticed before, but it'd be good if Twitter search had a few more options to it.
didn't Twitter get bought out by google or someone?
They did deals with Google and Bing and the like to feature live Twitter items on the search pages.
Booo, not enough.
#needsmoresearch
Hehe. That's more "I'm searching for something and oh look, here's a tweet about it." Rather than "I'm searching in Twitter for a very particular thing."
it is hopeless.
Looks like Men at Work won't have to pay all the royalties to the people that own the rights to the Kookaburra song then: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment_and_arts/10518787.stm
5% since 2002 probably isn't as much as it sounds... which seems fair to me as (a) Down Under only has a passing resemblance and (b) the woman who wrote the song never claimed for it, it was the company that bought the rights to the song after she died that did.
Larrikins indeed!
Still potentially an awful lot of money considering much of it will be coming from MCPS as opposed to sales - an awful lot stations everywhere play it on "80's hour"
It's more than a passing resemblance. It's the exact same tune.
But is it as much as when the song came out?
I do wonder why the lady who wrote the original song never claimed anything? Surely someone must have told her?
No, but it's against the law to claim any further back. They only have to go back to 2002, because the case was filed in 2008.
As for the original, I always assumed it was an old traditional folk song, which often bypasses modern copyright laws
Unless a company buys the rights to the song as is the case here?
I was just thinking about where this fits on the similarity scale and I was wondering what the two ends of the scale would look like?
How about ranging from 'passing resemblance' at one end to 'Vanilla Ice' at the other? :D
Grrrrr.
I think the song was written in the 30s. I would be surprised if the writer was still around.
Also, Larrikin only claimed infringement after the similarity was noted on a tv show. They had to have it pointed out to them!
But it's so freaking obvious.
...I never clocked it either
You might think so, yes.
Personally, I think it's crazy that copyright should last for over 50 years. That's just nuts.
Well, yes, absolutely.
Well all my Friday photos are editing, I think a Greggs is in order for lunch. I didn't have one all weekend despite the suspicious location of our hotel
*edited, even
It's pretty obvious to Australians.
It does - copyright lasts for 70 years after the person is dead and recorded copyrights lasts for 50 years.
Remember that this is often one of the only means of earnings for artists
I don't believe that.
Hey folks.
Because BBC have managed to extract exactly the right bit ... it's hard to hear it if you just listened to 'Down Under'...
*that should say "it doesn't"
So if someone writes something successful when 20, they can't make any more money off it after they're 70?
She died in '98 apparently.
I saw that...
Then the copyright will last until 2068 then
Oooh great question. On the one hand, the person who wrote the song should earn off anyone using it, but then after 50 years, shouldn't it have become so well known that it should be free to use?
Copyright law is a very complex thing. But in a nutshell, no I think it's crazy. Even worse, when some company can buy and then assert these "rights". There is no protection of the creator here.
That's a very old gum tree ;)
The idea of copyright is to encourage creativity by protecting your rights for a while. Not to provide a means of making a living off one item for the rest of your life.
And it's all about protecting Mickey mouse.
That's what it comes down to for me. The lady died, a company bought the rights to the song and then claimed breach of copyright. It's not like her family get the money or anything...
And you think that's bad? Don't get me started on patents......
No, I don't agree with that at all.
The key word here is "buy". If the rights are bought, then the creator benefits, albeit in sum sum.
Isn't that too far the other way?
Which bit? earning off the creation forever or eventually giving the rights away?
When it was drawn up, the idea was the rights would simply revert to the next of kin after death. Meanwhile there is currently a fight to have mechanical rights extended to 70 years
I think someone should be able to lay claim on it until they are dead, then it becomes open.
Giving the rights away after 50 years
Actually it is more often a way for large companies to stop anyone using seeing hearing performing things. They would rather see them hidden and disappear. These rules were sponsored by Disney to keep the image of Mickey Mouse form being used.
I am quite excited about meeting Mickey.
Mickey Mouse?? In the 18th century??
Just Mickey or the others too?
Will they speak French to you I wonder?
lots of the others too, but mostly Mickey. And Pluto.
Bonjour.
Surely if you write something you own it unless under some sort of contract that says someone else does. And if you own something you have the right to make a living from it.
It may encourage the writer's creativity but it stifles everyone elses, like remixes, samples, covers. I can see pros and cons to that.
Sorry, should have said: to prevent the image being copied or used by others. Copyright used to last only 20 years
My nieces name their pets after the Danish names for Disney characters.
We had Belle, Cinderella, and Peg-Leg Pete...
The copyright is owned by the writers of a works. Mechanical rights are often owned by the producers
You do, yes. But if I write something when I am 20, I think it's quite lazy to expect that to support me for the rest of my life.
And so, after what, 70 years? You can pursue a band thought the courts because of a small riff in a song. Especially if their song is popular right?
Right, who mentioned Greggs? I'm hungry now.
I just realised I've had no dinner. Boo.
Greggs? Never heard of it
Now I just feel wrong.
theres just some things we can't joke about.
Oooh.
I don't know what mechanical rights are
What's Greggs?
Tweetdeck is failing quite badly today, or at least mine is. It says I have no updates ever, from noone or myself, and I have no followers and never have had any.
Live performance and broadcast material
42.
Think about it.
;)
Official bakery of Sidepodland.
I don't expect anyone to live on it and I agree they are lazy if they write one thing and then give up, but they should expect some earnings from it.
Tweetdeck has been a big ball of fail for me ever since the World Cup started. I use the Twitter site more than ever these days.
It doesn't mean they'd automatically stop getting money for it, though, does it? Just that other people could use it too without getting sued out of existence. Which seems okay if something is 50 years old.
I have started to use it too. I like the fact that all the tweets are in one drop down list. Tweetdeck is too difficult to read...
??
Is this a Douglas Adams thing?
I thought it meant exactly that.
Sorry, the first bit
Oh. Okay, perhaps we're talking about different things. Sorry.
Greggs is definitely the real answer to life, the universe and everything. Best bakery ever.
Greatest thing to come out of Newcastle since...something else.
I think you might possibly be getting mechanical rights copyrights mixed up.
Paul Gascoigne??
I don't really know what that is either. I was going for a more general stance, but clearly I am out of my depth!
Technically, he's from Gateshead.
Don't worry - I do this for a living right now and believe me, it can really go round in circles
Bah - foiled again
ant + dec
Dear God....
Bykah Groooooooove!
Right, I'm off for lunch - back in a bit.
Oh yeah
it upsets me that I know who they are and I'm on the other side of the world.
I don't know, maybe. I just thought if nobody held copyright there is nobody to send the money to..
In fairness they do pop down to your part of the world every year.
they do?
I might have to take a photo of my Friday sausage roll for comparison
I'm a celebrity...get me out of heeeeeeere
ah, I have heard of that but I don't think it's actually on TV here. They should film it closer to home.
They shoud just make byker grove again really. Best show/show theme tune ever.
damn i missed a whole discussion on copyright :(
my stance is that copyright needn't be extended beyond 50 years from creation. should we be able to sample and remix anything after that period? too right.
if that means people run out of money, they need to be more creative more often.
Spa is on tv for the tour. It's looks really nice!
we may be lacking a jungle or two.
I always wondered why don't they just leave them all there?
We still have newcastle though
#bringbackbykergrove
would be hard to convince new people to come on the next series.
Just pretend that someone won and they all went home ;)
Wye aye man
jenson and lewis went paintballing this week. didn't they learn anything as kids?
Why would they need a new series?
Poor PJ (or Ant. or Dec. I dunno which is which)
That episode scared me when he got blinded :( although that time Brum broke down was just as traumatic for a 5 year old
me neither.... christine?
All I know is that they think it is time to rumble.
Oh yeah, do you want me to try and record BBC teeside at 2 or are you happy to wait for iPlayer?
Are you all Russian spys speaking in code?
ooh. please if you can.
psyche!
*hands over briefcase*
It is time to rock the mic, I repeat, it is time to rock the mic... psych.
Nah man like.
Paintball is vicious. I got a bruise like someone hit me with a baseball bat on the back of the head, ring marks from paintballs for ages and my mate got one in the mouthguard - so all the shards cut his lip!
The Magpie flies at Midnight after beating the sparrow..
my work used to quite often do it as a bonding thing but it has now been banned. This suits me because I hate it and now I don't have to come up with excuses as to why I can't go :D
This ties in with mr and mrs c having to move house right?
we're quick on the draw, and lay down the law.
:-)
just how many houses are there on rockall?
i don't remember that line?
:D
And haven't they lived in them all by now?
i think we wanted one with a sea view.
LOL
PJ = Ant
Duncan = Dec
Christine - Pic number 6 are Pandas eating an ice cream cake: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/10520742.stm
I see...
...Which one is ant and which one is dec? *runs*
I think I've been in the Middle East too long. It's wrong to be outraged when a man sits in the ladies train carriage isn't is....
Ant has a giant forehead. Dec is cuter.
Awwww! It looks... gross :)
The one on the left is ant, one on the right is dec. I think.
dec is the one going out with the football presenter.
Oh I remember their football song now
They're on the ball! They're on the ball! They're on the ball! They're on the ball! They're on the ball! They're on the ball! They're on the ball! x infinity
Choon
It's Seaman to Neville, Neville to Terry, Terry to Rio, Rio to Someone Else, Someone Else to Beckham, Beckham to... Gerrard... G.. phew...
I can't keep up...
fantasy. like we could ever pass that many times without loosing it.
hehe. Or just thump it up to Rooney anyway.
Wasn't that years and years ago? And half of those people are still in the team.
and on the bench. frowning.
And thats the England team for you :)
Bingo!
I heard he was at Wimbledon for Andy Murray's semi final. I hope he frowned again.
That... was really awful!
That was when Heskey looked like he might actually be alright.
Those times.
2002!
And we actually *did* have a chance against Brazil...
I hated that football song from the world cup before that where they just said nah nah nah a lot, then talked about curry.
Stupid Ronaldinho with his lucky cross.
Vindaloooooooooooooooo.
"We're gonna score one more goal than you."
I would say that Vindaloo was much better than Ant & Dec's song!
the music video was fab, i'll give it that :D
i disagree. probably the most accurate representation of english football fans ever.
If it helps, I don't know Ant & Dec's song but I do know the Vindaloo one.
I ought to hate it because it represents everything I don't like about English football culture. But... I love it.
At the time... most fans are good now.
Just as long as nobody draws Milwall and West Ham in the League Cup eh
"Me and my mum and my dad and my gran went off to Waterloo
Me and my mum and my dad and my gran and a bucket of vindaloo"
Simply inspiring stuff.
fair point
his daughter nicked his act.
I await her starring in Robin Hood in the future then
You'll be lucky. They killed Robin Hood off.
Pppfttt. Should've turned him into an auton.
Every time they re-do Robin Hood, the legend dies a little more...
Particularly when they kill him off, yes.
And Maid Marian!
Glad I didn't bother watching that version then...
ooh, rob.
oh no!!! i forgot.. editing photos sidetracked me..
oops.
he's staying at his mum's house this week :)
I liked it until the end.
I might have only kept watching for Richard Armitage though.
Back folks - did I miss much?
From what I just read about the last episode, they'll probably bring it back and make that Archer dude Robin Hood?
No, they canned it already.
....I think they call it al frescoo
smedley: "the fa have done the right thing by keeping fabio"
Rob has spoken.
For a sec I thought that was
"the fia have done the right thing by keeping flavio"
the killer blow against pundits everywhere surely
smedley: "maranello is rubbish, it's cast-off building, but i love it"
oh no. rob doesn't know about twitter!
:o
smedley: "i drive quite slowly and am scared of going fast"
rubens shoutout from rob :)
Awwwwww.
Awwwwww yay!
Non-Rob ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/07/06/renault-plan-for-the-future-but-does-the-future-include-kubica/
smedley: "i don't do mp3's, i have my walkmaster"
WHAT?
Does he work out what lap Massa pits on with an abacus? Does he measure laptimes using an hourglass?
didn't know you could watch tv online either. oh dear :(
I don't want to hear this interview anymore.
My hero :) Are you going off him now? :P
THIS MAN IS A PROPER ENGINEER!
going? gone.
What the heck is a Walkmaster anyways?
Awwww poor Rob
he meant walkman i assume. as in the cassette tape thing.
Oh.
Oh dear.
Yay for Massa not fighting for the championship!
If you've got something that works, why throw it away.... :P
Because there is better things out there?
Because it belongs in the 80s.
That's what my wife says when she tells me I can't replace anything electronic even though it's old and outdated, so boo to you :P
Cassettes are so available right now ;)
a tape hold 20 ish songs. an ipod, 20,000.
If you're not that into music though, it doesn't really matter....
you can't listen to podcasts on tapes. aside with joe wouldn't fit.
"Welcome to an Aside with Joe: Let's Approach T... please turn over the tape."
Heh okay I'm out of excuses. I will admit to burning things onto disk to listen to in the car. I do reuse them though.
i bet rob has one of those expensive ones that plays side two without needing to turn over.
My Father in Law asked me to make an MP3 CD for him with loads of his CD's. He then asked me to shuffle them up so they didn't play the same way each time.
Apparently he hasn't found a way to shuffle them himself on his car stereo...
I have this really worryng image of maranello being full of ghetto blasters and megadrives now.
:)
i think i understand now, why we were met with blanks last year when we said: "we're big fans of you on the podcast"
*blank looks
:D Immense
I can manage to do it myself. I just do it because the sound quality is much better than those silly radio things you get for ipods.
itrip? fm quality aren't they?
Someone must have put Felipe Baby on tape specially for him to hear it.
i think we also know why it was lisa who commented.
I have a lot of trouble finding free frequencies in my area. It works very well near my parents' house.
The range isn't brilliant either.
He probably has one that detects what sort of material tape it is. I remember not long before they died, I had one that could run metal or... something else
Don't you just dump it on the passenger seat?
you're not meant to be running a radio station
Pink shirt: http://twitpic.com/22xq5f
they have a web cam? :(
My flatmate would do brilliant with a tape, his current iTunes playlist is four songs. Over and over again. And then over again. And then again once more for good measure. Just loud enough that I can't escape them anywhere in the house.
I'm going to kill him.
:D
Is it good music though?
we need that many screens
it's horrible!
what's in the playlist?
it starts with a doof doof one that has no lyrics, then it's cookie jar by gym class heroes (which is the only one I can name because I could google the horrible repetitive lyrics MY HANDS MY HANDS MY HANDS OH GOD KILL ME), then it's another doof doof one then its a poppy-punkish one. Horrrrrible.
oh dear... I don't like the doof doof ones... Or the Angry Bees ones
I don't think I like anything that came out after 2002 :(
you didn't once star on "childs play" by any change?
*chance
as a murderous doll?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child's_Play_(game_show)
never heard of it, but from my televisual experience, game shows with children are super annoying.
...
pants.
Really? Really really? That sounds like a challenge to me
not really really, I have a few things from after that. Mostly from bands who were around before that. But theres the odd thing. I still rock out to Party in the USA. #shamefulsecret
Ahem...

Unbreakable was released in October 2007

I do like dance music, but not mindless music garbage
Ughhh...
Pick up one of my playlists and blast it out loud and see how he feels
:)
oh yes, I have lots of albums from after that, some iTunes examples are Backstreet Boys, Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell, Metallica, Foo Fighters, RHCP, all of who were around before then.
The only things I can find in my list that weren't are Electric Six, Kelly Clarkson and Justin Timberlake. And JT doesn't count because nsync were around before then ;)

Pressdog weighing in on the renewed Milka Duno situation with quotes from other drivers. This really has gotten beyond a joke at this stage

do they not have a 107pc rule?
has she always been this rrrrrrubbish? I don't remember hearing about her too much before and now all of a sudden it seems to be coming from all sides
afternoon,
I saw some music talk so wanted to let y'all know that Tim is DeeJay-ing in London at some posh F1-afterparty on Sunday.
CART at a 110% rule, I don't know why IRL doesn't, if it doesn't

I wonder if he'll stay awake all night in Singapore by DJing. I'd have to go check it out.
No the don't at all
this is the first year she's driving a full schedule, so it's gotten noticed more
She's always been off the pace, Danica threw a towel at her a couple of years ago.
@karunchandhok: Promised our catering team I'd cook them a home made curry for wednesday lunch so busy chopping meat and veges today...
surely they should drive his car for him?
It's not just the lack of pace though; she often wavers on her driving line

He spells veggies like Amy.
I hope that's the bleeped one :)
Tis
It's not just the lack of pace though; she often wavers on her driving line
True. She's always done that but I'm sure she used to be a bit faster.
:D
Yes but sometimes even in the front of the car it's not strong enough...
I just found out one of my workmates is taking the same flight to London as me, except 24 hours later. So close to having flight company yet so far!
Other than meeting us, do you know your London plans yet?
I have my Wimbledon tour booked, then I think I'm going to hang out with Pamela and do some sight seeing. Now that I know Renee will be there at that time I might see if I can grab a coffee with her too. And I might also try catch up with my old flatmate. I should probably see some old school mates too but theres really no time. Why is everyone I know in London? :D
would you be wanting those plans in a tabular format, and to how many decimal places?
'Cos it rocks.
:) I have a feeling I know what's for dinner if we're meeting up for that.
You should definitely sight-see if there is time.
it'll be one of the only cities I'm in where I'll have someone to sight see with so that should be nice. Hooray for Pamela!
any suggestions to what I should see in Switzerland now that Roger is not an option? I am really only going there to see my friend, I didn't think beyond that to things I should actually try and see while I'm there.
What time do I schedule the world cup for?
Alps
go now if you likes.
Cool, there's loads to do. I'd offer but I may have a hangover on the Weds.
Everytime I try think of something I get as far as 'chocolate' then I get stuck.
oki doki!
Clocks!
Pingety Ping! http://sidepodcast.com/2010/07/06/2010-fifa-world-cup-day-22/
Your friend will have some ideas. Chocolate factory?
I am browsing the photos of one of my other friends who went there and stayed with her in 2008. It seems that all they did was drink a lot of beer. It's like going to visit Bassano!
Hello, folks.
Interesting fact about today, from Twitter:
Today is the day that Marty McFly arrived in the future after hitting 88mph in a pimped out Delorean in 1985.
No, it's not.
What day was it, then?
He went to October 21st 2015.
November 2015
Ah, I was a month out :)
The big hoax is that yesterday was the day the Doc wanted to go to in the first movie before it all kicked off. Sadly, even that is not true.
Ahh. There ya have it. Thanks for setting me straight. :)
No probs. I've loved reading all about it these past couple of days. Long live BTTF!
midnight and still 30+ degrees, seriously hot day today
Apparently Heston is coming to film a TV ad at our work place soon. Shhh. I never said that.
Great column about Goodwood by Karun
One of the most brilliant guys we've ever had as part of our F1 TV team. And it's easy to see why with this article. :)
LdG's verdict:
My view on new Silverstone: Better track to drive but less overtaking points.
Hmmm. That's not good. :( Am a bit surprised at this considering one of the considerations of the new layout was to help overtaking. Does the fast Abbey curve kill too much of the tow now?
The MotoGP riders didn't rate it either, and it had mixed reviews from FIA GT drivers. People are building up the Village corner but that's not where the action will be - it'll be at Brooklands, if it works.
Hooray, ITV Player is working this evening, I can finally watch the Tour from Saturday :)
The other thing is the old section has not been resurfaced and is still abrasive and bumpy, and there are big bumps on the transition to the new track
They can revert back to the old layout if it really gets horrible in the next 5 years, right?
In any case, if the new layout is more abrasive on tyres, we may get more mistakes leading to overtakes, anyway...
my issue is how much farther the grandstands need to be from the track, cause of the silly bikes.
binoculars required.
They can and it wouldn't necessarily be a huge PR disaster because it was always meant for bikes. Bridgestone are taking harder tyres than usual, apparently.
My Goodwood photos are now available
Day One
Day Two
Day Three
Enjoy!
wow. i thought you were the non-photography in your relationship?
of course, lou's are amazing before she'd even edited them!
Wow that's loads and you saw so many people, great stuff!
On Saturday you found the same place I did, little secluded spot after the corner opposite the grandstand :)
Has anyone else posted pics yet?
working on it
He is so pointing at you.
Got a link?
yes!!! :)
I said I'm working on it :)
Hehee don't worry, you'll get a plug along with Sir Luke of Lee...
I just saw a photo of you with someone, I don't think any of you mentioned...
They are uploaded, I'm being annoying and trying to get a blog post out first :)
I also have to do my game results, busy bloggy night
ooh, yes, Whitmarsh. probably because I didn't mean for it to happen so I was a bit bemused by it all
omg!
I think they are related...
It was because I gave my photo to lou and asked for no apparent reason 'Can I have a photo?' and so I got one, even though I didn't mean to say that... but he was lovely and I wished him the best of luck with Jenson Button. :P
He looks related to me though in that,
#sameperson
Is this for the Daily? When's the latest you need to know?
Just let me know before I go to bed after the footy ;)
Do you know what... sod it I can't wait any more :)
Leg End. Cheers!
they cleaned the audi?

Yeah. It wasn't the winning car though, which is a shame
I tried to take more video than usual and got some good stuff, and lots of bad stuff..
you need a tripod too?
Can't pan with a tripod..
or can you, maybe you can
Oh hang on I seem to have retweeted Lukeh wrongly, I'm sure it looked right when I sent it
Oh sorry stupid Tweetdeck wasn't showing all of it
My head hurts, will take a shower and food break before footie and blogging
prince/symbol is a very odd man:
"The Internet's completely over. I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won't pay me an advance for it."
probably best to throw away that modem right now.
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/07/internet-over-outta-time-prince-releases-tunes-like-its-1999.ars
So he is past the internet, and rob is just discovering it. It's an odd day.
he just saved rob a whole load of bother. mind you he did mention CD, so, well there's still a bit to learn.
Great photos pat, especially of all the cars in the cathedral paddock as I wanted to see what was in there. Me and lou kept forgetting to go down there :(
Thanks. I went there first so I could cross it off and spend more time in the big paddock, and actually spent a while there :)
Hello all, how are we today?
My friend's husband just called to say he has two tickets for Friday at Silverstone & would I like to go!!!! To say I'm happy would be an understatement. Anyway, I need some info. What time is best to arrive & what is the programme on Friday? I assume there's a website for the programme information. Eeeeeekkkk
woohoo!!
timetable: http://silverstone.co.uk/events/2010-Formula-1-Santander-British-Grand-Prix12/
get there as early as possible as traffic is a nightmare. every day.
Indeed. Friends of his know a marshal. They are going Sat & Sun but can't go Friday. This not working thing has its benefits :)
Thank you
are you still on holiday? blimey.
Dank has some tips: http://www.motorsportmusings.co.uk/2010/07/surviving-the-british-grand-prix/
I don't have a job yet, I've sent in some applications but not got anywhere yet. I volunteer at the local hospice twice a week helping with donation admin. It's a hard life.
Thanks
i.am.jealous.
You're welcome. Hope you enjoy it, And take earplugs!
The downside is not being paid. I can last quite a while but don't want to run my savings completely into the ground.
Evenink all
Wow, have fun!
Stumbled in here as I saw a referral to my corner of the Internet (cheers Gavin!)... I don't wish to pry about your situation, but have you sought advice about claiming jobseeker's allowance at all? It's certainly better than having to use up any of your savings and serves a purpose.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lukehmuse/4767864679/
Lukeh got a picture with Whitmarsh!
I think he may be one of my favourite F1 people at the moment.
Hey buddy - no probs, I linked to that and your Silverstone 2008 article in tomorrow's daily, they were both really good articles IMO ;)
Cheque's in the post!
Thanks. I have looked at it. If I don't get a job by the end of July I'll probably claim it. I chose to stop working and claiming benefits means I have to look for work on their terms, which is completely correct if they are funding me, but means I have to consider anything within an hours travel and I would prefer something I can walk to. Will see what happens.
Does Kobi have a brother?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/us_and_canada/10504627.stm
To be honest, I don't blame you. I was in a similar predicament recently, and was prepared to use my savings. But then I thought about all the tax I've ever paid... so I bit the bullet and stumbled down to the local Job Centre and signed on. I found that it least wasn't quite as gloomy or stinky as I thought it would be, nor was it like the Fully Monty (unfortunately).
So long as you play the game (and fill in your little log book of 'activities'), then they'll let you get on with things. I think the one's in my local office were just happy to see someone sane every fortnight!
Anyway, fortunately I've found employment now. Fair from my ideal job, but it's got to be better than a poke in the eye (well, I hope it is!)
Good luck with the search and keep those self-esteem levels high! If you want any advice or whatever, let me know.
hey dank. how's your employment situ after hips-gate?
doh. too slow :)
Didn't check the link but he has a brother called Daisuke who is doing British F3 this season
Thanks, appreciate the advice :)
Start a new job in August. So between now and then I'm a man of leisure.
He dosen't have another one by any chance? Who's a hot dog speed-eating champion?
very good to hear on both counts. no excuses for not blogging in the meantime then ;)
Jon, looks like I'm going to Silverstone on Friday. Are you there that day or only Sat/Sun?
Alllll 3.
What? Never heard of that one
Grand. Will tweet when we arrive & see if can meet up & say hi :)
but I'm in the support race paddocks, I'm guessing i can get back out to the general bit aswell.
I shall keep an eye on my laptop!
I'll try my best. Probably tippy-tappy something about my soiree with the Red Bull mob tomorrow.
Did you win!?!
Not as such... It's a media/fans day and I think I come in the '/' part of that equation. *taps nose*
epic.
Excellent!
i've clearly missed something. can't wait to read about it though.
Red Bull Racing are hosting an all-day event tomorrow in Milton Keynes. Go karting in the morning with Webber, Daniel Ricciardo, Brendon Hartley and er, Jake Humphrey, followed by BBQ, factory tour and dinner in the Energy Station in the Silverstone paddock.
Good stuff :)
cool! try not to come last this time though, eh?
OOhh, looking forward to reading all about it.
I heard about this. Sounds awesome!
Absolutely bricking it. I'll heed DC's advice and let Webber through tomorrow because he's in a different league, and well, I shouldn't be racing him.
:D
:D
:D
You don't want to race him and have him take your head off as he flies over
how the heck is jake gonna fit in a kart?
Hah :)
us lanky people have our ways....
the answer is of course, with difficulty.
Well all my Friday photos are editing, I think a Greggs is in order for lunch. I didn't have one all weekend despite the suspicious location of our hotel {Comment #119}
I have to pass 2 of those (and try not to trip over the queues for one of them) to get between the railway station and my workplace...
Didn't check the link but he has a brother called Daisuke who is doing British F3 this season
He dosen't have another one by any chance? Who's a hot dog speed-eating champion? {Comment #462}
I read about that in the paper this morning. Thankfully, I think the answer in this case is "no". Kobayashi is the 9th most common Japanese surname.
I saw an ad earlier that Lewis and Jenson are on GMTV tomorrow morning
Speed Sporting: http://sidepodcast.wikia.com/wiki/Speed_Sporting
I'm sure theres more but they can be added
Perfect.
♥
I added in Wimbledon.
Good night!
see ya cappie
or chappie, whichever suits really.
See ya mate
Night Gavin
Hey Mr C, you still there?
always.
I guess not!
ah there you are!
Are you and Christine going to be at the race presumably this weekend?
nope. we're refusing to give bernie any money. we'll be at joe's event just up the road on friday evening, but we're boycotting f1 prices.
shame, I live in Whittlebury and my wife kndly surprised me with a ticket for Sunday so I was going to see if I could bump into you both. Can't make the Friday Joe session
ahh, so close. let us know what you make of it all next week though won't you?
yeh sure.
When is F1 debrief coming back. I have been off the website for a while but am missing the podcast feeds. Is that also part of your protest?
i think maybe for the off-season. not for a while certainly.
are you both still watching the races though? I got the impression that maybe you hadn't been?
the past three races, yes. but if they're dull, like the spanish gp we switch off and do something more productive. a fraction of our previous commitment though and things are better for us that way.
Fair enough. For what it's worth you both do an amazing job and when I listen to all the content you put out I often find it hard to understand how you both keep going with full time jobs etc
Keep up the good work!
cheers nigel.
Goodwood stuff is delayed, sorry. I have to get my game post out because it is Tuesday and it is always out on Tuesday to give people plenty of time. I was doing housework stuff and then the football turned out to be more interesting than I thought it would be :)

British GP Preview // Mark Webber Drives Silverstone Circuit
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2010/07/06/mark-webber-drives-silverstone-circuit/
I guess I should have known, but I didn't realise Vettel did German language versions of the track simulator's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYwmmatFafM&feature=channel
jaime and buemi also do them in their respective languages.
Oh right - never knew...
...anyhoo Brit GP stuff done - now to send e-mails and hope for the best
:)
what ya hoping for, sir?
With the German GP coming up, I'm e-mailing teams and German drivers about the possibility of a Q&A for the site.
Not expecting anything, but who knows.....
I'd like to do it as part of the build-up
:)
good man.
working on some new poll widgets for the character cup. it's taking much longer than planning but am getting there: http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/updated-poll-widgets-0
#mfc - join in the madness: http://mrdoob.com/lab/javascript/multiuserpad/
Just watching the video, you don't get to see much of the new section of track. shame.
yeah - i'm heading on Friday, so I'll get to judge it in person, but I'm still not totally sure how F1 cars will race on it
My prediction is they'll all moan about the bump at Abbey (tough!), there won't be much passing into Village and the short chute will trip some people up and that'll lead to some good passing down Wellington into Brooklands.
I can't for the life of me work out why they messed up Club.
Clearly Red Bull wanted to hide how their car works round there.
I expect some drivers will get caught out when the starting going round for the first time.
Abbey will be the first corner next year. thats going to take some getting used to.
start / finish used to be the hangar straight
Pretty sure it was the Farm straight
Guaranteed crash I'd have thought, it is a fast corner but the entry is really tight. It does open out though.
Either way it was a very long time ago. You have to wonder what genius decide to have the start on a corner at a track with so many straights on it.
I want to blame that on Hermann too...
Seems to me the ideal spot would be the new straight.
What will happen to Farm straight and the bridge?

It was a bit before his time. I like the idea of blaming him though
Don't mension bridge!!! :(
Morning all
