Hello you lovely peoples out there. Right now I usually start with some long-winded, witty (sometimes) introduction to the daily post. Today is different, since the 5th July may just be the most uneventful day of all 366 of them. Nothing interesting has happened, nobody interesting was born. In fact, the only birthday of note is that of Dolly the Sheep, the first ever cloned animal. Not even a human, there should be something interesting in the bulletpoints:
- It was the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend as I'm sure most of you were aware of. The only bits I caught were the two hours on Sky Sports (which I found impressive, including the bloke who did the speedway, Charlie Webster who also does the speedway and used to do GP2, as well as Anthony Davidson and David Croft commentating), but Lou and Lukeh were there and they have written up about some rather special moments and a big thanks to a few people, it is, in my honest view, a brilliant post. Lukeh's new best friend forever Bruno Senna also provided us with a spectacular video of the course when returning back to the paddock. But finally, boo to Renault who decided Hungary was a better place to send drivers Jan Charouz and Ho-Pin Tung. Tut tut.
- The 4th July may have been important for America, but Leigh was written an insightful post about Roland Ratzenberger, the Austrian who died the day before Ayrton Senna at the same track. He would have been 50 yesterday.
- Leigh has also shared his July spotify playlist for this month, so while absolutley nothing happens today, stick your feet up and listen to some quality and relevant music as picked by Leigh. Be warned, it may not actually work in all countries, so don't go running to me if it doesn't work for you. Go to Leigh instead.
- I'm not sure what is going on, it appears the curse of the 5th July strikes in the world of sport. The tennis has finished at Wimbledon, the football is taking a bit of a siesta and if it wasn't for the Tour de France I'm pretty sure I would forget sport exists. But good news people, the British Grand Prix is this weekend! Yes, the pinnacle of the year, packed crowds and fantastic racing. I suppose any excuse to mention Tai Woffinden, but there are three British riders to cheer on. Scotty Nicholls (who had an on track fight with Emil Sayfutdinov at this event last year, Sutil and Trulli have nothing on this) and Chris Harris (who won it in 2007 on the very last corner). Its on Saturday night and on Sky Sports 2 from 4:30 GMT+1.
Let us not forget about Mr. Andronov's latest radio show, which featured as usual, some unusual songs as well as one of my guilty pleasures, I won't reveal which song it is though. Don't get concerned by the lack of things going on today, its the 6th July tomorrow which for starters, and the Dutch are playing. Remember just to relax today and I'm sure it'll be done with and forgotten about quickly enough soon.
Have a nice (if possible) Monday.
Hello today, and a goodbye from me. Early start tomorrow so shall pop off, night and lotsa love.
cheers for the daily rg, and good night / morning.
Morning!
*head explodes*
@JSummerton
Having a great 4th of July and so glad to be working with @Cyphergroup towards my dreams of F1!
ahh, that's why emma was asking.
i guess so.
How are we all? How was goodwood? I'm very excited for next weekend. woooop
Okay, we've got to get some sleep now. long train journeys to take tomorrow.. back to the real world :( night all! xx
Good to meet you all again, even if only for a little while.
Night.
goodnight peoples.
Hmm... I may take tomorrow off now...
:o
Summerton is a good driver - he'll need at least some GP2 first though. I don't think going from IndyLights to F1 is the best way to go
fab daily, rg.
yarrghhhh....
should sleep, but struggling
same here. although my problem is now adrenaline.
I should sleep but I'm too stubborn and want to get a blog post out
yep yep yep yep yep yep...
don't particularly want to go back into work tomorrow, but i suppose i'm well enough - can't believe how much i slept this weekend
ooh, coming soon?
I'll have one up in a few minutes too. Nothing too significant though
Five or ten mins. Nothing special, just a teaser :)
damn i wish i could write as much as you.
:)
not counting my music site either......

Shame - it was great job by Sato today, screwed by a fumbled last pitstop
:/
lovely picture, but those red tyres ruin that lotus livery.
Goodwood: Outtakes
A teaser, the good stuff will come tomorrow :)
Those red rings would ruin any livery
nice one :)
on that note, i really must sleep.
Love the magazine shot, the almost Red Bull and the big screen crash shot
:)
as must I (eventually)
night
Me too.
For anyone here, I also put up a video
http://toomuchracing.com/2010/07/05/goodwood-2010-video-1929-bugatti/
Anyone watching the Jean Todt interview on SpeedTV - Wind Tunnel?
he's on windtunnel? must watch when they put that up.
heikki message delivered to christine. now back to sleep.
ouch, christine gets up early!
That was before 6 even!
Morning :)
i didn't think that had posted my comment then, i got 'invalid comment id' when i hit post.
and 'hi' guys and girls, how be we this beautiful morn?
morning all
Morning.
I'm sad I'm not in the UK today. And here's why:
http://community.redbullracing.com/competitions/index.cfm/Ready-To-Race-With-Red-Bull!/
It does sound like a great prize, but how come Jake Humphrey is involved?
RBBC? :D
Probably for a British GP featurette.
JA also has a promo going on to get seats for quali or race this weekend.
You have to guess the seat row, number and grandstand it's in. He does give you a clue though!
The Grandstand is already given - Copse. You just need to guess the row and seat numbers.
BBC spend way too much time with Red Bull, especially with DC being a Red Bull guy too...
What a weird competition.
It's a bit like spot the ball I guess. I'd love to see if anyone gets it right!
Like battleships but different.
Just saw that Fairuz Fauzy is to get four Free Practice 1 runs throughout the rest of the season for Lotus, with Trulli and Kovalainen alternating their seats
Do you think it's a good idea/bad idea/won't make any difference?
Speaking of photos Lou, have you seen that Speedhunters are asking people to send in their motorsport pics for a showcase and are offering advice for people wanting to become Professionals?
You should send in some!
It's nice that he gets miles, but personally I just don't rate him that highly. I dunno, he could get in the car and be better than expected, but I don't think so
He deserves some testing time I guess...
oh my goodness, no i hadn't! i'll look into that the moment i get home! thank you.
Has anything happened with that Anthony Hamilton Drivers' Academy yet?
You're welcome. I think from reading some of the posts on there that they would like to see your pics... it's a great blog too, BTW...
Gotta say, I'm listening to "Stranger than Fiction" by Bad Religion for the second time in about a decade (the first time being last night) - still a great album and I still remember every word.
Nice
:)
Getting up early sucks.
+1
Yes!!
Tell me about it... Every blinking day...
I don't know how you do it.
Also, spending your weekend taking a train across country to sit in 30-deg heat in a garden full of people who won't talk to you except for ruining the football sucks too :(
I moved cities because it drove me mad.
At least I don't have to get up as early as Fourstar, he's on 5:35. I don't have to get up until 5:45!!! Get in!!! *ahem*
Especially for trains to go home :(
Good morning.
morning pat
There a 5 in the morning now?!
it's new
There is. I saw it too!
I'm getting up half an hour earlier every day with my new hours, and 45mins on one day.. Will take a little bit of getting used to.
I'm beginning to wish I slept last night
Yeah - that's what time I used to get up. It's insane.
Now I live near all my workmates and friends I get to do so much more stuff too...
Lukeh says that but what he neglects to say is on Friday i woke up and noticed he was already dressed.... at 6:59! he's on holiday.. yet he still gets up early.. crazy! :)
I have to be up painfully early for the Friday train to Silverstone
:o
at least you get to go to silverstone :)
:D
i hate having to go home.. :( but i think the outside hates me more.. i've totally lost my voice this morning.. bad times.
well, at least you went to goodwood and met holly, jense and crofty!!
:P
I am already in bed for the evening because I feel a little queasy. I am glad it's not morning here.
and Heikki! :D
yeah yeah yeah yeah...............................
;)
hehehe btw there is a park named after you here :) the other day we had a pizza in 'Leigh Park' lol
Dammit - they weren't suppose to name that until after I was famous
hehehe there is a road too.. they must really like you around these parts.
apparently i'm amazing
:D
:D
time to pack the laptop away.. see you all later! :( xx
See ya - have a safe trip home :)
see you lou-keh
Mercedes are posting some Goodwood pics:

But no Heikki and no banners
No. Very disappointing.

What? You mean you went to see actual cars and stuff? Madness. :)
Depends if you include Marc Gene as a notable celeb... ?
hello alison
Have a good journey..
I missed a bit of my arm with suncream yesterday while walking 300m to the train station and now it's bright red :(
Cool pics! Good views on the rally stage
Hi
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/07/05/a-three-way-tie-for-the-lead-on-christines-rankings/
Gosh, Joe Friday is creeping up quickly.
I was about to ask what Joe Friday was, but the *ding*
Gotta work out a way there - I can't imagine bicycles will be too welcome on the A5
I only just realised that it was this Friday... I wonder what I'm doing on Friday?
Huh?
Oooooooooooo. ;-)
Are you going to try to record this one?
coming too. excellent.
i'll blog this later, but people need to know, we are not recording this one.
Nope.
spooky.
no.
:-)
OK - so I'll be getting a train around 7.30ish to Northampton and be up a while after 8 and then collect a bus (I think)
...sorted
:)
Well I have no idea if I can come... I only just realised this morning somehow... I can't believe you've booked already for something that isn't happening until Friday!!!
What's happening here? Things have been booked in advance? Christine is counting down the days until the event...
WAIT!!!! AMY WHY HAVE YOU TAKEN OVER MR AND MRS Cs MINDS?
;)
that is true. sooo risky, anything could happen between now and then.
LOL :D
shhh... quiet young alex - all will be revealed in good time.............
I most certainly am not.
We are moving house and it was suggested key collection might be Friday.
Joe > moving house.
Phew! :)
Morning lovely peoples.
Moving house again? Poor you, hasn't been long enough since the last one!
You two move house more often than I have hot dinners. I often eat cold dinners - well okay I don't but I was trying to make a point which didn't really work... okay fine... you two move house more often than I do.
No wonder you are so #MFC :)
I wonder who might turn up. I'm excited and I'm not even going.
we'll take pictures
It's what we do.
Wow, you move even more often than me
How far into the move will it be before Mr C suggest buying Christine an iPad so he doesn't have to carry any more boxes of books?
My guess... Pretty soon...
Probably me, Mr C and a van. Oh, you mean Joe.
A few weeks ago from memory :-)
We already did! The iPad is MINE now.
IKEA hates Apple?
Hehehehe
You mean you don't bug family?
finally.... no books to move!!
♥
Hi
Mwahahahahaha.
Have you started jettisoning books yet? I haven't been brave enough yet.
Probably won't need to. We're kind of self sufficient, plus we don't have much stuff.
See: Mr C making me throw out all my books.
I had my parents in law, my sis-in-law, bro-in-law and their kids helping. Oh, and they brought loads of beer...
true story. i noticed it wasn't even in the house this morning.
still, it beats moving bookshelves.
It's basically my next job.
I wonder if these guests put him off spilling some beans..
Me neither. That's the problem isn't it?
I'm still convinced you are spies
I'm still upset at the ones I had to throw out 3 years ago :(
Nah, can't wait.
Or they watch Location Location Location Location Location Location too much...
I don't think it's uneventful - Le Tour De France will visit Spa today! :D
But not -Francorchamps, which is the interesting part of the place, I think.
muhaha
I'll watch the ITV4 highlights and will see if I can spot any nice restaurants
Is Eau Rouge in Spa or Francorchamps?
i guess now that goodwood has been and gone. it's probably okay to discuss spa now. or should that wait until after the bgp?
I found another one I own in paper today on the Kindle store that is not available to customers in Australia :( It makes me sad, getting rid of my books is an exciting high.
now now now now nowwwww!
Pamela is leaving Australia in T-7 days which means it's SOON.
The first book I read on the Kindle App has a sequel which is not available in the UK.
That's just... teasing.
Map here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/97th-tour-de-france-gt/stage-2
They mention Stavelot!
It's fine by me.
that is so mean!
I have now read 3 books cover to cover on my iPad and I can't imagine going back to print... It's on my list to do... But on the other hand I don't have a time based incentive.
I have an iPad based incentive. It was kinda the deal :)
People keep giving me leper to read :-(
Ahem. That's paper
I guess the best argument for e-books is that paperbacks just waste space on the shelf when they've been read...
I have the problem that I was halfway through a book when I bought my Kindle and now I refuse to finish it because I don't like paper anymore. Boo paper.
You have lepers read to you?
they are frickin' heavy in bulk.
ESPN tracker says the finish is in Spa-Francorchamps. Can't argue with that, I suppose.
Tell me about it. 11 moving boxes, no more than half full for weight limits!
I don't car what anyone says, I like my books!!
:)
schumi's half-term report card: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/238243/gpupdate-half-term-report-michael-schumacher/
could do better.
No, just fingers that don't work with the iPad
Neither, the track is between the places I think
Fair enough.
must be Francorchamps though, the circuit isn't even close to Spa
They really are.
Some books I will still keep for the time being... For example Codder's one and books like that. But a paperback? A textbook? Give me a break!
I will always keep your book, it's the only one I've purchased in digital and not tossed :D
I have maybe four books I'll have to keep for sentimental and/or "that'll never appear as an ebook" reasons. Even I can manage that box.
Indeed. TDF website says:
Interesting.
I kept my textbooks because I sold them after the first year and then took courses 2-3 years later that needed them again...
Also, my calculus book is great for flattening things...
Well that's a great honour of course.
alex has a book?
Lots. He said he hadn't got around to throwing them away
Yeah but it's a bit weird... It's like the first page wasn't included somehow...
Kindle and iBooks both have search inside the books and add notes to the book which are automatically search-able as well... And they go out of date. Text books as actual printed books are first against the wall in my opinion.
Oh yes...
http://thebookwiththemissingfirstpage.co.uk
:)
My parents have a big box of my textbooks because they make me feel smart, but I have realised I'll never use them again so I told them to toss them :D
Can you imagine having an ipad at school? Just fantastic.
Well that's all good I suppose... but who said I was rational? ;)
really annoyed with my publisher who said, "the fastest way to get on the Kindle and iBook store was to [go via them]"... Still no ebook. *shakes fist*
I know... But I just read an electronic book, made notes with it and then I had to refer to a real one and I was so frustrated with it. That's when I made the decision.
I still have some of mine to remind me I used to be able to think
I need comment food choosing help again, we are going to a work function to some sort of vegetarian restaurant, and the inability to order meat of course has me studying the menu before I go. I have narrowed it down to two choices:
1) Vegie Roast
Oven roasted root vegetables seasoned with garlic and fresh herbs, served with caramelised onions and pumpkin seeds, accompanied by a slice of homemade focaccia, hommus and tsatsiki dip
or 2) Risotto
Portobello, swiss brown and field mushrooms, simmered in white wine and pesto. Finished with chervil, parmesan and white truffle oil.
I really like roast veges. But I really like mushrooms too. Heeeeelp.
I say 1.
I need to get rid of old textbooks.
I also want to sort out the other ones I don't like, I'm absolutely keeping the rest though.
I pick #2. I'm a huge fan of mushrooms. Roast veggies... not so much. :D
1 all the way, roast vegetables rule.
I was leaning towards it just because I know what every word in that means. I have no idea what chervil is.
Mushrooms are almost meat. Pick them.
Chervil is nice... Bit like parsley.
I would say 'maybe I should go back to this place another time'
but it's vegetarian! I like meeeeeat!
Jeremy brought this back for me from his 3 week trip to Australia... http://yfrog.com/j9jjbdj
Bundy!
There are vegetarian restaurants?
theres a few around Melbourne that I know of, we had our work Christmas party at one last year and I kind of fell in love with their mushroom burgers.
My managers email that he sent out about our function included the line "if you're lucky, you might get a lecture from me about why you should be vegetarian too!'
I can't wait :(
That's asking for an argument.. Can't you just have a nice meal sampling something different?
Oh boy...
I have two veggie friends. One whose partner is an absolute carnivore yet is not allowed ANY meat in the house, while the other is more easy going about it and doesn't even mind if the same grill/tools are used (she just doesn't eat meat)...
I hope so. The other day at work I was eating a cheeseburger and he had to leave the room because "it smelt so good"
He's quite a new vegetarian, I think he's struggling :D
Bring in some bacon. Bacon always breaks the wobbly ones :)
+1
heheheh like Pamela at our pre-race breakfast!
+11!
Awww... looks like Lewis and Alonso are pally again
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8788105.stm
haha! I had been vego for about 10 years, until January. That was the first time I had eaten bacon in 10 years. Salty!
If you came to Denmark you'd never entertain being Veggie again ;)
No 1.
Where r u going?
Vegie Bar
Ohh, I loved their Mexican Burrito! :)
thats exactly what my boss said!
They are missing a G.
Ah now that's the kind of veggie I can eat happily :)
I thought they had an extra i. I always spell it vege.
Quorn is also surprisingly good. Or a Veggie Curry...
Can an e-book be missing a fist page?
Perhaps an update to "The corrupted e-book", but that doesnt sound very virtuious, perhaps the "The e-book with a minor download error?"
I see DC was in the wars at the weekend
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13254417
Not keen on Quorn but a good veggie curry is nice
We had it one day as a Veggie option instead of Chicken - it tasted better IMO...
It's okay in things. I wouldn't suggest it on it's own.
Had to google "Quorn". Seems tofu-ish? Never was keen on tofu. Not for lack of trying though. I find it very bizarre to be learning to cook meat now. Eating out is more fun though - many more options.
what are we going to do in the off season! I think we'll have to keep going out anyway :D
It's not. It's made from mushrooms but they try and texture it like meat. It doesn't really taste like met but the flavour of it is okay in it's own right I'd say.
It's OK with other stuff but not by itself. The texture is much nicer than Tofu...
Of course! We'll be planning Melb GP 2011 :)
Excellent!
ooh I like the sound of that. They said on Facebook that tickets will be on sale in August, late July for this years Advantage members :D
Reminds me of a can of "nutmeat" that I bought once. It was in my pantry for about a year. Finally threw it out when I moved house.
Uh oh. I wont be in Melb then :(
That's what the internet is for
Yeah, but I like to go to Ticketmaster in person so I can choose my exact seat. Are you coming next year Paul?
ooh I'm gonna leave you in charge once you get back to town, I normally do it over the phone and go with what they give me, but then I whine about it :D
I sure am. But planning next year in July is a bit long term!
Actually, not so much the seat, more the section. Fangio is big, and I like to be opposite the podium.
Well, well, well...
If the dates are friendly, I'm interested. :D When does the date come out, though? Need to know if it will clash with my sis' graduation.
Woohoo!
Okay, am happy to organise in September.
That would be ace :)
You have to buy ultra-early to get a gold ticket right?
BIG if though. As it stands, it seems my sis' school doesn't schedule their graduation until January. :( I've asked her to pester the school, though, and see if we can find out earlier. :D
Hang on - you guys buy tickets even if you don't know the exact date yet?
they make the dates later and later every year, which is kind of annoying because it means theres thousands of gold holders. It's not exclusive by any means anymore which makes all the Advantage events way too packed.
By then, the dates will have come out.
Normally I wouldn't, but Amy is a bad influence.
Actually maybe not, because the tickets dont arrive until christmas time... I cant remember...
I live here, it's not like I won't be available :D
Grr. :P
The initial calendar doesn't come out until... September, right?
hey, once I didn't live here too, it's all about how far you're willing to go ;)
what if you don't like f1 anymore?
I know lots of people that go to the race that don't like F1 :D
Melbourne's awesome enough that you can live there and not like F1, right?
we get Roger once a year!
i meant going to the race, really.
i'm scared that i just got to the point of coping with spa talk, and everyone jumped 6 months into the future.
At least once. Doesn't he play kooyong?
apparently the Melbourne event is so well put together you don't have to like F1 to have a great time there, or so my flatmate tells me when she goes every year.
I'm not particularly hot for F1 right now but I'm still going to Spa.
normally, although he didn't last year. If he has a really bad end to 2009 he might next year for the practice :D :D
Speaking of Roger, here is a lovely blog post about him.
http://anygivensurface.wordpress.com/2010/07/03/what-does-federers-loss-mean/
I need something to look forward to
#notgoingtospa
#blameamy
:D
so, ah, how about that silverstone aye?
i do. daily ;)
Mr Journeyer, I think you should enter
http://www.asiabiggestf1fan.com/
this might be of interest to cycling fans: http://www.bing.com/maps/explore/#5003/0.60041=/5872/style=auto&lat=48.213775&lon=2.918735&z=5&pid=5874
OOooooh.
Can i just say - their Flash is rubbish. :(
They're giving Webber Vettels Monaco-chassis...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/85013
aha
Afternoon all
ha. vettel will love that.
I love his quote;
Speaking about the change at the time, Vettel said: "I was complaining for the last couple of races that something was not feeling right, and it was good on Sunday night [in Monaco] when we decided to change the chassis anyway just to make a change and find something. I think it explains a lot. On top of that, we also found other things that weren't in proper shape."
Really Seb? really?
my cynical view says there was never a thing wrong with it. if webber sticks it on pole on saturday, vettel is going to look very, very silly.
if i was a betting man i would put most of my money on it being absolutely fine and nothing wrong with it
Questions aren't loading. I've used all 3 tries, because I thought it was a loading issue. Greeeeat.
I've created a second account, but it's still not working. :(
if vettel outperforms webber, people will suspect favouritism. vettel loses either way.
:(
:( i did the test drive since I can't actually enter the competition and got a drive through penalty :D
true
i've decided to keep it open in the background. just to see if it'll load the questions. still loading.
weird thing is, there are already people on the leaderboard. but then the Flash test drive worked for me. so i have no idea what's wrong...
It was done just to appease Vettel and make him think the team love him a bit more - purely a psychological advantage...
hehehe. thing is, you can't skip the question. so i'm not sure why they bothered with the drive-through clause. :D
but if it makes vettel happy, he'll go faster and stick an identical car on pole. at least that's how RBR think it'll work.
Exactly.
it will make him happy until webber puts it on pole :P
we'll see. webber's bad luck has started to make a comeback as of late...
Good.
What is on the screen now? http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/1452/screenshotxp.jpg
Bad. I can't stand Vettel and the 'Victory Finger' ;)
canada maybe, he just wasn't fast enough in valencia.
He had the combination of a slow start, terrible pitstop and that crash, I'd say he was fairly unlucky.
he qualified behind vettel though. not fast enough.
You make your own luck, and if you have a quick start from the front you tend to be 'lucky' ;9
over one lap. doesn't automatically mean he'd beat him on Sunday.
In this year's F1, it means a heck of a lot though...
Hey all, I'm now home :(
Hey lou
aw. it's ok though, only 8 weeks until the next adventure :D
2010: 3 out of 9 polesitters go on to win
2009: 8 out of 17 polesitters go on to win
it doesn't mean much. it means even less than last year...
8 weeks is ages away! i neeeeeed to say hi to Ant though :)
It sucks not having a voice... i want to tell mum how awesome Goodwood was but can't.
Not just winning though - you know that in an F1 where passing is difficult that things can be decided by the first corner. Just looking at winners and polesitters is too narrow...
seconded. like we'd see a pass for the lead at valencia.
Blog it and send her a link ;)
I am sure you were counting down to Goodwood earlier than that and it came around fast!
hahaha i'm going to have to... i think this is proof that outside is both good and bad.
you make a good point.
blog idea for you, then: based on your theory, how many of those who were leading after Turn 1 (or Lap 1) go on to win? 2010 vs. 2009 comparison.
i'm still guessing it will be less likely that such leaders in 2010 will win vs. such leaders in 2009.
Hi.
My throat is bad from the dust and I was only there for a day
mum says it must have been the dust. Lukeh was fine though... apart from the sunburn..
I'm thinking about general positions as opposed to just one car though. 'In general', things are sorted by T1.
i'd love to know that though. also, taking into account mechanical failures. so assuming all cars were equally reliable, which season saw a more mixed up finishing order.
Hello :)
I like this dream world
Hey lukeh
Right, so basically compare the grid with the finishing position and see how many were the same?
:)
bingo. although journeyer mentioned positions after lap 1. which would also be interesting.
Read: Difficult ;)
I'll look into it, but I must admit I might put that one off until later as I wanted to do a couple of other posts first...
no rush. if i'm wrong it'll blow my argument for speed sporting right outta the water.
*waves*
I thought we did that already.
(hugs)
you did? cause the tennis was fast anyhow?
Yea.
tennis is an anomaly.
aw
I do like tennis - to play, but not really to watch. Sadly I have no one to play tennis with...
:(
Sometime ago I did a blog post on the number of pole positions that were turned into race wins http://f1loonie.wordpress.com/2009/09/18/10-pole-to-chequered-flag/
No idea if they still lead into turn 1, but they ended the race in 1st ;)
wii tennis? Lou?
How did you correlate the higher number of retirement from years ago to today's bulletproof* machinery?
(*not proven to be bulletpoof)
To be honest, I prefer the real thing...
:)
i haven't played a proper game of tennis for ages but i love it.. i'd always try and play.. i could do with actually seeing if i can hit a ball still..
I'm woried that if I serve, my glasses will go flying with the ball
what's the opposite of #MFC?

Media Future Change...http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/category/media-future-change/
That actually didn't cross my mind. I just looked at the number of pole positions that resulted in race wins. I'm not going to re-read whats there because I hate to think how it reads.
Fair enough - when it comes to things like tennis, the fact that it's outdoors is better for me. Also why I prefer cycling in the park as opposed to my living room
Autosport's "exclusive spy shot" of the 2011 GP2 car... What have they done???? Ruined it!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/85014
looks like an f1 car. that's a bad thing cosmetically, but good for the series, right?
Ping: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/07/05/i-should-have-included-a-polar-bear/
Ughhh.....
I hope it's just a bad angle
Good for the series in prestige terms because it can continue to claim direct association to F1, and Pirelli say it'll run one of the four F1 compounds all year rather than develop a bespoke one as Bridgestone did.
For the fans and the drivers I can't see how this is at all good. Surely they won't be able to overtake?
36 minutes until I can leave. I'm itching to get home and into my Goodwood photos/videos again. Must visit supermarket first.
i'm still sorting through mine... think i'm gonna download lightroom now to try and help with the 1,670 odd pics i took..
ahh.
recommended.
from what you said, it's the only way i'm going to be able to get through them.
Looks like the HRT car.
you may want to start with importing one or two, to get used to it. but i wouldn't use anything else now.
ooh, I didn't think to compare
cool! i'll download it and have a bit of an experiment and figure out how to use it :)
Think I'll give it a gander too then
it's "feature weak" in comparison to photoshop. but for photo organisation, second to none.
lets just be glad its not modelled on the R29 ;)
it would be faster..
it doesn't have to be fast though. it just has to give drivers a feel for f1.
they may as well get used to a lack of overtaking early :)
and hideous. they can't use the fast cars or GP2 might be faster than the new teams. and that will just upset Luca.
:)
who knows they might make it work.
Has to be fast enough to be the quickest development series around (the main competition is themselves in World Series), but not fast enough to beat F1 cars.
You might say with HRT, GP2, WSR and an effective F3 monopoly that Dallara had the 'Road to F1' mapped out spectacularly well.
Most of them have driven in F3 so they are already used to it.. :)
Yes. Luca Badoer.
:)
gosh, somehow 2am is about to happen again. I thought once the tennis finished that would stop occurring. I thought wrong.
wow. just 8 weeks till your on the right time zone :P
7! I leave the week before Spa :D
hehehe yay for count downs :)
Jenson appears to have forgotten Legard

burn.
Lewis, Chris Moyles, Al Murray, Jake Humphrey and that...erm, oh, err, that guy in the blue shirt.
:)
In 2005 I went out for dinner with some workmates, including one guy who absolutely hated me and at work the next day I overheard someone ask him who was at the dinner, and he listed everyone who was there except me.
This is just like that :D
(hearts) Jenson
So Jenson hates Legard? Who'da thunk it.
all the kids are doing it these days
he probably sends him to sleep in the cockpit.
evening kidlings. have we had a sidepodawesome monday?
hullo tm. I'm sad to be home but all good things must come to an end. Trying to edit photos but my laptop is being silly
not really, having no voice is stupid.
although in better news i've just realised 2 of my photos are on the homepage :D this makes me very happy. :)
yay for people who check the homepage, and yay for guest posts :)
It's awesome seeing Heikki with the banner on the homepage
the homepage is so pretty why would i not check it :)
tried to make it croftie at first, but in both pics he disappeared behind the text.
awww poor Crofty :(
stats say 90% of people type this: sidepodcast.com/realtime we're doing our best to fix that. heikki is helping the cause :)
I don't do that since I'm totally lazy to type in the 9 characters after sidepodcast.com
but how do they know if there are new posts or not? they might miss an awesome post!
agreed.
(hearts) lazy people.
haha! Chrome doesn't help the going straight to doohickey though, as i have x2 little icons. homepage and realtime..
which would you prefer?
@sarahholtf1: So, I've had two laps of the new Silverstone circuit with 1996 champion Damon Hill and one lap with @5livef1's Anthony Davidson

maybe it's a good thing i didn't meet him...
I've heard good things about this Ant Davidson chap
:)
Could be worse, you could run after Lewis Hamilton
...waiiit a second ;)
you weren't meant to say anything!!! it didn't happen...
...and rg said in the daily that nothing at all happened today:
@chainbear: There's a line in Back To The Future where Christopher Lloyd sets the DeLorean for "25 yrs in the future" - that day is today
WHAT!?
Mustve been those paracetamols I had for my headache :)
hands off him, lou!
Umm.
My defence is that nothing like that was mentioned on wikipedia or my sport calendar.
hehe
i didn;t do nuffink...Pat.. or Chris.. or Lukeh said 'ohh look is that Lewis?' (walking round the back of the media centre and behind the house)... with very little security round him... my photographer sense kicked in and i decided to run closer to get a pic... but he disappeared. To make things worse as i was walking back Jackie Stewart walked the same way.
#fail
wow, that comment was a bit of a fail too..
Hehe you were very hyper :)
i have no idea what this means, but it sounds... interesting, from @scarbs on twitter:
--
Red Bull retard their ignition on the overrun in [qualiying] to keep exhaust flow thru their EBD. Retarding the ignition means the fuel ignites after the exhaust valve opens and keeps burning & expanding in the exhaust, like a turbo antilag system, it will overheat the engine, ex.valve and exhaust if used too much, plus it burns more fuel. All controlled via the SECU & is legal, it can't be used too much due to the overheating and fuel consumption, ie only in [qualifying]
--
i was talking and everything... ah i miss my voice..
awwww!
I just found the photo of the erased Rubens brawn :(
I don't mean the Mercedes (I am slowly starting to come to ease with that) but instead a really rrrrrubbish advertising hoarding we saw...
the reason for franck's exit at le mans? conditions were too good!
The weather stayed cool and, unlike previous years, the air/air intercoolers did not become clogged up. The filling of the combustion chambers remained extremely efficient throughout, which in turn meant that the performance delivered by the engines was particularly high.
http://www.racecar-engineering.com/news/cars/475672/con-rod-failures-caused-peugeot-le-mans-disaster.html
http://i48.tinypic.com/28uio2q.jpg
Where is all the lovely yellow and the lovely red and blue for rubens! It was for a food company too...
What it means is that instead of having their spark plugs spark after the compression stroke and creat a power stroke they wait until the exhaust strok and ignite the fuel causing it to generate/maintain downforce. THe big problem with feeding exhaust gases into a diffuser or under a wing is that it generates downforce while the driver's foot is on the floor but when he is off the throttle he loses downforce. Worse than that in mid corner he can lift off to control a slide and doing so he loses rear downforce which makes it worse. Every time the driver jumps on or off the throttle he also cause a pitch change.
Evening all
that is quite something.
Hmm, I do like that livery.
Sounds fishy
Hey Steven
Poor black and white rubens :(
so how are the drivers coping?
he got very upset.
hello
very much so.
"it sucks that our car didn't become clogged up"?
it's not all in black and white though... the reflection on his visor is still in colour.
Walking into Ari Vatanen's car immediatedly made me happier though :)
I am not sure about that but way back in the 80s someone (Renault?) fed the exhausts under their rear wing and had all sorts of problems.
When we had turbos teams used to feed fuel into the exhaust when the driver was off throttle to keep the turbos spinning at their normal speed so Red Bull is not doing something that has never been thought of before
i think scarbs got his info from james allen, who says:
--
One interesting observation is that Red Bull has a setting on the engine, whereby the ignition is retarded on the over run, which maintains exhaust gas pressure even when the driver lifts off the throttle. This maintains the performance of the blown diffuser and keeps the downforce up when it’s most needed.
--
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/07/european-grand-prix-the-key-decisions/
They are saying the intercoolers didn't clog up. THe intercooler cools air before itis fed into the combustion chamber. Cooler air = greater weight of oxygen = more fuel can be fed in so you get a bigger bang. They must measure and adjust for air temp/oxygen weight in the fuel injection. I don't understand how that would break con rods though.
It is an interesting approach but only for qualifying. I guess this is the mysterious ride control system that everyone was looking for and proves all the mechanics standing around the back of the car was a con.
Awesomeness.
I guess we need to keep an eye on the news for any stray DeLoreans
agreed. although ted called it correctly in may: http://twitter.com/tedkravitz/status/13749816549
i don't remember the scene at all. christine, was that when he sent the dog for a ride or something?
Go Ted. I wonder if this was the reason for the exhasust stickers to. No doubt they played with the settings in testing and hoped no-one would notice if they thought the exhausts exited conventionally
I touched one: http://www.facebook.com/RubberGoat#!/photo.php?pid=30202076&id=1044259760
Mike Fuller from Mulsanne's Corner said on Facebook:
"Peugeot's released a press release today that says, in effect, their engine failures were simply because they couldn't handle the pace; "Indeed, the track benefited from high levels of grip this year, so the engines spent longer at full throttle than we expected.
At the same time, the weather stayed cool and, unlike previous years, the air/air intercoolers did not become clogged up. The filling of the combustion chambers remained extremely efficient throughout, which in turn meant that the performance delivered by the engines was particularly high."
That, and they had new conrods this year...hmmm."
Ooooooh, lovely!
I think the whole thing comes down to we screwed up the new conrods but if we blame the weather no-one will notice

Toyota TF110...
IT MOVES!
We know it moves. John Howett moved one into a wall
:)
:)
ha. i didn't know that, thats amusing
He did it a favour then ;)
you don't listen to the joe show?
i do, i just have a rubbish memory.
Toyota let him try one as a reward for his long service. He drove it on the road around the factory and stuffed it into a wall. They had two cars prepared and this is the other one.
:)
It's a test!
:D
Have you Tennisheads seen this Andy Murray Street Tennis Video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYjFoCIfyAU&feature=player_embedded
it was that one he crashed: http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/john-howett-and-the-red-tf110
the black one was the other one, and appeared to remain in tact.
awww JB is so sweet
'@The_Real_JB The London Tri is only 34days away. I'm working as hard as I possibly can to make the kids at Make a Wish foundation proud'
i also love that he's got a countdown :)
Hahaha, very nice!
I hope it's not as dangerous as Street Countdown
:D
ehehehehe!!
'ello again
I came home and had a little snooze, I was very tired. Then a trip to the shop. Tip: boxes of 12 of various beers are £10. Peroni, Cobra, Tiger and Bitburger. I've tried the others before and I like them so I got Bitburger. It is interesting.
Dropdown selector in doohickey

coool
Every time I drink Bitbürger my wife shouts "BITTE EINEN BIT!!!"
guh. posts look awful in that.
Some of those shots are incredible. I wonder how many retakes were involved
I guess my memory failed as wll then
i can't read a post (which isnt the daily) in Doohickey... it feels odd...
Me too
don't think it was ever mentioned, joe wasn't sure. i spotted it in this months RCE and forgot to say.
actually they look worse in /livecommenting/ - never look at a post in that.
Yeah but if there's something new I go to the Blog tab and look at it there
I forgot to say that's Waitrose. I assume everyone knows what my nearest shop is
#sidepodspace
They finally managed to dock the unmanned Russian Progress vehicle to the station. It is basically a delivery van and it arrived on Friday but the docking had to be aborted and the delivery van parked a mile or two away until they sorted out the problem.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/main/index.html
Ahhhh, Waitrose. Good old Waitrose.
you had no idea what waitrose was until last thursday :P
...
...
...
...
...
?
:D
I have learnt well thanks to goodwood. They sell good bags of ice but confuse tired people with their similarly branded orange juice.
Do they not have them in Walesland? I know they only go so far North but I thought South Wales might have some.
I think we do but then again we don't even have a Morrisons where I live, Waitrose is about 5 supermarkets above in terms of lovely
They do that with ham too.
amongst the Greggs, pizza places and Iceland of the village we stayed at there was a new supermarket Lukeh hadn't heard of.... waitrose.
I had to introduce him to it's awesomeness... we bought ice and everything (it was really hot on Friday...)
My nearest ones all the way in Ponteeeeeland (as George Aligiah described it earlier), thats 15 minutes away. Too far away to shop.
Be honest. You have only heard of it because that's where the cupcake ingredients came from.
it was nice orange juice btw... very yummy thank you for accidentally buying it for me.
In my defence I had a fail evening on... Saturday night. Bought the wrong tickets, bought the wrong orange juice, apparently confused mark webber with a Wispa... headaches can do shocking things.
:D
:D :D
oh yeah
Hehehe :)
haha
you forget to tell them you basically collapsed when we got back, you slept all evening.
he works in a shop though?
hehehehe!!! :D
I had a bad head
Ahh. It is very nice. It is also expensive but I'm lazy and being in walking distance means it beats walking up a hill to Spar, or driving to Morrisons or Co-Op.
They seem to think everyone can cook really well though, there's not as much prepared stuff as other places.
waitrose is different to iceland.. much nicer (imo)
:D
It was very lovely
With the best will in the world, Iceland probably isn't in the same market sector as Waitrose..
But very expensive
It's like saying HRT are nearly as fast as Mclaren
Hang on hang on, rewind... Mark Webber and a Wispa?
Goodwood is tiring
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/07/05/tweets-of-the-week-never-too-late-to-learn-the-basics/
I can't explain it myself as I don't remember it happening! Apparently I woke up and starting mumbling then talking to lou about Mark Webber then corrected myself and said Wispa... then went back to sleep.
or so our survey says!
It would seem that Mike Conway is on Twitter. Again :)
http://twitter.com/Mikeconwayirl
Hahah :) Sleep does funny things
ehehehehehehe there are no words as to how funny a half conscious, paracetamol influenced Lukeh is...
again?
He was it last year but deleted his account.
forgot a word
by mistake?
He got bored or didn't understand it, or both
Here's a post slating ABC's handling of IndyCar, which has been bad for a while and this week was terrible. He says the 'the gold standard in American racing broadcasting is without doubt the SPEED Formula 1 crew'.
You can tell how tired I am, I keep forgetting things.
Here is the link: http://www.popoffvalve.com/2010/7/5/1553287/taking-the-tube-to-task-indycar

I think I've made amends enough now.
hehe. i like that lou has two pics on the homepage and lukeh has one.
c'mon lukeh!
I need an equaliser!
*looks to see if franck was in any photos*
Bah the ITV Player is useless. It lists 3 entries for the Tour de France. I press play. "Cannot find video", all 3.
Hey guys, long time no see.
Just spotted this on the Autosport website - new GP2 car!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/85014
Looks awesome :D
I really should search before I post things...
:)
I'm not sure how In feel about it, I did see it earlier but I dunno. Seems a bit too F1 for me but maybe that's a good thing?
Its a bit too Sauber for my liking, big GP3 car with a bit of F1. I await more pictures :D
If it were a Formula 1 car among the current crop of Formula 1 cars that would be fine... but it isn't. It needs to look a bit different.
I don't think it is, GP2's getting Pirelli f1 tyres next year aswell. They want it to be a mini-f1
Your just saying that because there's no sponsors on it and its completely white... umm, we do have sponsors of course...
Well it'll certainly help drivers in the series experience the closest thing to a current spec F1 car without driving one.
and because of the sticky outy front
The current one laps faster than HRT's, they do race current f1 cars ;)
I meant aerodynamically of course.
Scott, you may like this. Someone at the Lotus interview asked Heikki and Crofty if they play racing simulation games :)
Oops, at Goodwood I meant to say, and Crofty confirmed that he is in F1 2010 as a pitlane reporter eeeek :D
hehe indeed. Its all well and good making GP2 like F1, but that means theres an even bigger gap down to GP3 which is the route GP2 Motorsport want drivers to do
I knew that ;)
So, what was Heikki's response?
and Heikki confirmed that there is yet to be a good formula 1 simulation game that he would play. he plays rally ones apparently.. under funky names?..
he doesn;t like F1 games as they're never very good (hence crofty jumping in) but he does enjoy playing rally games and TOCA games/touring car games but with a proper steering wheel etc
Wasn't Holly confirmed too or was that my imagination?
Hmm, Richard Burns Rally is the only rally sim I know of.
Not sure, I think she is. I hadn't seen any confirmation of Crofty though just rumours.
yay for Holly! :)
Turns out all you back to the future people are wrong....
http://twitpic.com/22r1xp
#apparently
is now a bad time to admit i've not seen this film?...
i've seen Up now though..
Phew, I thought I'd missed lou's birthday then
It only laps faster on green tracks when GP2 runs after F1...
See, 5th July = Boring.
SQUIRREL!
Ive seen bits but not all of it
are you sure you have the correct scene?
i asked earlier because there are several mentions of various times in that film and 25 years from summer of '85 would be around now.
aha, yeah i was just messing
its not my picture so i dont know, but it was tweeted by an uber fan
Why are youback to Lou & Lukeh?
You should see it, classic 80s.
they may be uber, but i think they are wrong/confused. lemmie check
can i please have one of these? or failing that.... maybe one of these?
tis likely, i shall have a moan and get back to you
ooops sorry. Wishful thinking.. that and the fact i've only just turned my laptop on..
Doc: That's right, 25 years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next 25 World Series.
so the question is. on what day did doc say that?
Yes! Just because I want one too so it can pat me on the head
it could help us get up the Goodwood hill too..
26th October 1985

or Eau Rouge...
genius!
aha!
got ya. so the original tweeter was incorrect. but that last twitpic was from a completely different scene in the film.
no wonder everyone is confused :)
everyones wrong :) it best to keep it that way :D
Time travel is confusing. Then you have the problems with the glamour. Imagine the typefaces they have in the future.
oooooh!
That was menat to be grammar not glamour.
#confused
Mr C always was excited so easily :D
Now I know how to get you into Dr Who
typography can be glamourous.
:)
i was into doctor who, when it was... erm... what was her name?
Really??
Miss Piper?
Rose/billie piper?
ummm
or of course, Sarah Jane, she has her own spin off. It's epic
that's her. i liked her and the last doctor. that was it, one series.
I need evidence of glamourous typography
erm
http://www.dafont.com/glamour-girl.font
fact
I can see it now anyways. The doctor travels to Earth, in the year 4023, and Comic Sans has taken over the world. Children write in it, signs are made in it, the giant bridge between moon, earth and the newly created Virgin Planet project all have signs in comic sans. Typography needs a doctor. But the doctor needs a typography expert.
The doctor needs a mr c.

Can't argue with that
I've just checked something and apparently Back to the Future was released in the US on July 3rd, 1985. So Saturday was the 25th anniversary of the film being released.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088763/releaseinfo
mr c needs a doctor. y'know why? 'cause i got a fever for more cowbell.
it took SIX MONTHS to get here?
I'll just leave this here.
actual LOL
oh, it didnt open the first time which was why i laughed and why im sat here looking a little bit silly
#moveon
I tried to find a gif I usually use but I couldn't find it :(
Yaaaay
i have to leave ya for the night now. if i don't fix this poll, we can't start the character cup and mrs c. will kill me. i shall return upon completion.
(probably with a test poll)
Good luck sir!
I may kill you for doing that wiki page as well.
Have fun...
*runs*
Crazy.
they sent it by water.

in a bottle clearly.
Have fun. I should stop commenting and tweeting and get something written about Goodwood. Need to figure out if I'm doing a big post or lots of small ones..
i saw the largest book on typography in waterstones the other day... i didn't realise there was that much to say about font...
Little old plug for the British GP: http://bit.ly/dD6sJd

Isn't it just? One of the largest accommodation sites suddenly becomes unusable with days left before the biggest tourism event of the year for the area. It would have been difficult to pick a worse time if anyone had tried!
Hope everyoone has made it out OK.
