It's another Friday and that means another Daily thread from yours truly today. Although things are a little different today as I sit next to Lou, watching over my every word making sure I'm giving you is top quality. Actually she's sitting on the bed playing/shouting at Monopoly on my iPod but shh. Anyways today is an awesome day as the Goodwood Festival of Speed starts today and we will be there!! WOO!! Although there was a moving motorsport yesterday but that is a fake day, where people move. In motorsport. Fun times! Anyways, time for my favourite companion since the Doctor's friends - the bullet points.

  • So yesterday the big Formula 1 chiefs met together to discuss stuff as FOTA and talk about stuff. It was generally full of stuff apparently. Some of the biggest names in Formula 1 attended including Martin Whitmarsh, Tony Fernandes and of course, Leigh O'Gorman. I found it all a little pointless as did many in the dedicated thread here on Sidepodcast - why have a chat about their warped version of reality with us fans knowing it won't happen? We all know what Formula 1 needs anyways - more Rubens. I'm very unsure about this meeting really but remember to jump over to it's dedicated thread to discuss the FOTA Fan Forum Fun For Fursday.
  • So Jenson Button yesterday had a seat fitted for his drive at Goodwood this weekend. Jenson will be driving Alain Prost's McLaren on Saturday in which I'm sure he will love doing so. According to Lou, Jenson likes Prost but McLaren play up his fandom a bit because of how much Lewis likes Senna. If you ask me, if Jenson wanted to drive a legendary car that has been driven by a hero of his, then he should be driving last year's Brawn GP car but with the number 23 on it. Ahem.
  • So we could be getting another awful looking race track from Spain added to the calendar in the future thanks to a new track proposition from Mallorca... or Majorca... or My Yorkie... whatever it's called. This would be another Spanish track if added to the calendar, what with Catalunya and Valencia already on the calendar. What would it be then? The Island GP? The Medditeranen GP? The Tilke Didn't Design This One GP? Let us know your feelings on the mystery Majorca announcement. Although I've never been there on holiday anyways, but we should definitely get to work on the Butlins GP if this race is going to be near some holiday sites.

I think that's enough for one day, it would be fair to say the distractions have been evident throughout writing this daily. Not that I blame anyone who has been sitting nearby me, ahem. No it was because of Location Location Location Location Location Location Location on Channel 4. Silly show. If you're going to Goodwood then please come and say hello to both Lou and I as we tour the grounds/stalk Jenson. I'm sure it'll be a fantastic weekend so I hope everyone else has a fantastic friday and a fantastic weekend!

Let it be known that there is a least one Tifosi out there that doesn't think Valencia was a "travesty". The result was less than optimal, but I think enough stuff has gone our way that one instance where we get screwed is far from the end of the world.

Believe me, I've been completely ashamed of how Domenicali and Di Montezemelo have been acting about this. I'm just glad that Fernando came out and admitted that his emotions got the best of him.

Luckily I rarely have to worry about Felipe, he's usually happy go-lucky

i don't think it's been that bad. i like angry ferrari. luca had a day to calm down a bit, so maybe he went OTT.

i guess another tv bit the dust on sunday, but i don't think the much to be ashamed of.

he's been the model driver. he got screwed way more than alonso, hardly a word from him.

I concur. He has his moments, still being bitter about '08 for one, but overall, he's really been a gem to have in the paddock in terms of attitude.

LOL, poor poor Schumi... It's really getting sad to see Michael on the grid. It reminds me a lot of when Jordan came back to play for the Wizards. He was a shadow of himself and outclassed due to rust and age.

Good idea, I sent Christine an e-mail with a little note about Joe's audience which we were in, I included a picture of Joe and I, I may need to resend it. Not even a long weekend in the vicinity of Spa? It is a Bank Holiday weekend, take Friday off and drive over then, we can meet after practice for dinner and beers then you've got the weekend to do what you want.

sure thing, why not. just don't be mad at me when it comes to the day of departure if i'm still in bed.

my point is, i didn't know last week i would be this busy today. why pretend i have any idea what it'll be like in a month or two. i don't even know where i'll be working then.

much better to lower expectations and not let anyone down i think.

Morning all, How are we all?

I need your help in answering a question that's been going through my head all week.

Which sports happen on some sort of track where you have to get from one point to another as fast as possible taking the quickest route, e.g motorsport, luge, skeleton. what else?

  • paul02/07/2010 at 09:45

  • paul02/07/2010 at 09:45

    BMX too. And track cycling

  • F1Wolf02/07/2010 at 09:45

Train to Chichester, there may be a shuttle bus but I'm not sure, I always drive. There's always a big queue of traffic around Chichester's ring-road with people trying to get in, can't say I'd have expected it on the Friday though. And that traffic might be elsewhere.

Webber takes on the questions this time round: http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2010/7/10978.html

Q: Name five things that you hate?

MW: People that lie, people that drive under the speed limit, people that snore loads on planes and people that are unreliable. That’s about it. I am not big hater.

I dunno, that sounds like a lot of people to hate.

  • Alex Andronov02/07/2010 at 14:32

I dunno, that sounds like a lot of people to hate.

Those are things that you don't want to combine...

"Once I was so tired when I was taxiing my plane to the runway that I started falling asleep, my co-pilot didn't even notice that I was driving so slowly as to be almost stationary, but he did notice my snoring. He reported me to the civil aviation authority for being so unreliable. Not really... I hope you enjoy your flight today, we'll be cruising at an altitude of..."

we're both exhausted though. Didn't even get to see the rally or posh bit.. lucky we have the next two days.

It's so hot though, and i'd like to second Mr C's 2007 statement asking for a ski lift.

Yeah, I left it on Lukehs. Annoyingly, you can't send a DM to two people, and I didn't want to spam you guys :_

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 19:47

To be fair we saw a spitting image of Ant. It was like a clone. But less Ant.

I got your DM, we'll be meeting lou's mum for lunch so I reckon we'll be free in the afternoon sometime. Unless it all goes catastrophically of course. Do you need my number at all? Will DM it you to let you know when we can go Button bashing

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 19:53

you can tell when lukeh types... he uses caps... and abuses the Button family..

  • Chris02/07/2010 at 19:53

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 19:56

:D Just start abusing Barrichello...or Senna!

i think he has a thing for brazillian drivers... his face after meeting Senna was such a picture! lol

i just found out that Crofty is gonna be there tomorrow!!!! wohoooooo!!!!

i may or may not have thousands of pics of Senna though... he's more good looking in real life.

oooh and i've also figured the best way to get pics of drivers... i have loads of Adrian Newey in the Red Bull!

  • Steven Roy02/07/2010 at 19:57

Sounds like you have had fun. Adrian was given the car he was driving as a present by RBR. I think there are only telling him that so he won't stuff it

  • Steven Roy02/07/2010 at 19:58

Crofty and Dec are doing commentary for Sky so look out for any Sky trucks or the like

    1) They are my brazilian boys

    2) We spent ages today looking at a commentary box wondering where Crofty was

    3) senna is awesome. and a very handsome young man.no caps in this point, so lou must be typing this one. ahem.

    4) You ran after Adrian Newey!!!!

Adrian got the RB5 as a present. RBR are desperate to keep him

I just asked him how he felt about HRT going forward and he said he hoped the team would produce afaster car soon but he was happy, and then I mentioned Karun and he said how good the two get on and how nice the f1 fans are embracing them

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 20:07

Don't you just get wobbly pics of the back of their heads though if you are running after them?

nooooo. it's when they return to the paddock. take pics of them as they arrive (newey stopped right in front of us) then as they turn away run back through the crowd and meet them at their garage. You get to the front of two queues and get some great shots of them getting out of the cars. Problem is you have to choose a driver you can't do it for them all. So tomorrow i'll be running after Jenson if i can..

  • Pat W02/07/2010 at 20:08

I see so you can get one driver from each run. SO F1 normally does 2 runs a day so you can get 2 tomorrow and 2 Sunday if you are lucky

Some are driving historic F1, not current, so be aware of that. Time management at Goodwood is surprisingly difficult.

yep, not so interested in getting panning shots tbh, i can practise that at Brands and things. Am more interested in the people this time :D

The last time I was there Lewis and one of the other F1 drivers decided to do their second run straight after lunch because they had to be somewhere else. I was right up the top of the hill and the first I knew about it was when the commentator said next up Lewis Hamilton.

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 20:14

good point! i'm gonna look through the time table later as based on the train situation this morning i'd feel more confident if i did it rather than Lukeh :P

This is a good point. I don't know about you but normally I want to be trackside for the F1 runs, but this year we're going to Spa and we'll see F1 cars at proper speed. On the other hand they are at a more manageable speed at GW and they are different cars.

  • Steven Roy02/07/2010 at 20:14

Good idea. I guess it is hard to do panning shots whn people keep stopping to spin their wheels. Maybe you should try to find one of the places they always do wheel spins or donuts and try and get some smoke patterns

  • Steven Roy02/07/2010 at 20:15

I think the choice is whether to get a good trackside location or miss the run and wait in the paddock.

I hate missing things but the FoS is such that you're guaranteed to always be missing things.

oooh -err.. i hope that doesn't happen. Although today there was alot of confusion as the second run consisted of two red bulls, where as the morning run had only contained one. i think we both did a double take

Red Bulls everywhere today. Joe said they were at parliament as well early this morning

it's hard to find the right place to stand tbh.. i mean near the paddock is really heard to get shots... so ideally you need to be at the top of the hill or on the banking.

I think i may station myself near the paddock. Maybe start at the holding bay place, then run to the side of the track for their run up the hill then run into the paddock for when they return. based on today though i'm pretty sure i'll end up loosing Lukeh for a bit as i run through the crowd :)

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 20:23

oooh we also saw the brawn <3

well it's the brawn in the merc livery... but tomorrow apparently it's going up the hill!! i get to see the brawn in action again!! :D

Lukeh hates the idea of it.. but i'm never excited as i can ignore the livery :)

are you calling the paddock the bit with the awnings or the bit where the cars queue up before leaving for the bottom of the hill?

the latter is the better place to stand and where they do all the tv interviews.

  • Pat W02/07/2010 at 20:35

    Sky's looking quite red..

I hear the forecast for Sunday is rain, I don't want to go to Goodwood in the rain

it was forcast for rain today too... and it was soooo humid. no rain though. The manufacturers stuff seems much better this year (and slightly reorganised so there are places you could shelter if it does.

nothing jumps out.. Lukeh says avoid the mercedes.. but nothing i can think of. Toyota did their pitstop challenge.. without the f1 car, they did it with a GT2 (lukeh says) car or something

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 20:51

oooh actually, i found the moving motorshow 'shed' to be a bit.. erm.. disappointing.. it's just lots of cars.. although the ferraris were nice :)

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 20:56

it's near the start line, we entered through the moving motorsport thing and it was just the other side of that.

Righto, ta. I usually come in the bottom entrance where the cars turn round. Will attempt another way if I can.

I had a feeling it might be. I suppose this means they aren't in the courtyard any more.

do you mean the style a lux place?

we didn't get a chance to go in their today, so i can't say...

but it's much more for people who may want to buy cars i think...very humid in their too..

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 20:59

Righto, ta. I usually come in the bottom entrance where the cars turn round. Will attempt another way if I can.

the car park entrance seems different to last time, but we got the bus so i'm not sure..

  • Pat W02/07/2010 at 21:00

do you mean the style a lux place?

That's the field with the jazz, just after that is a courtyard area rammed with people gawping at supercars which makes it impossible to see anything.. Hopefully they are all in the motorshow area now, it looks bigger.

  • lou & Lukeh02/07/2010 at 21:01

I'm watching last week's MotoGP but without Rossi I'm rapidly losing interest

i saw part of the silverstone race - looked a bit patchy with so a small field

that's such a contrast from F1, as in people still are interested in the sport when there is one dominant rider, as opposed to f1, where things became dull when the same thing happened.

Lack of bikes, half of last year's good riders aren't there either because someone new has their ride or their ride no longer exists. And injuries. Not as much fun as it used to be.

I didn't mind Rossi doing a lot of winning because he was entertaining when doing it. Lorenzo winning all the time is just boring.

Rossi is winning all the time because of his ability. Schumacher went to Ferrari and in five years turned it round when he had every advantage possible. Rossi went to Yamaha with no advantage and won the first race and first championship.

    I loved that.

Rossi isn't actually winning all the time this year. Once again he is mirroring Schumacher but doing it better. He's not as quick as he was and the younger challengers are now faster. This year was all about Rossi hanging on against them, not getting the results he used to have and was adapting, using his experience to beat them sometimes. Then he crashed and is out injured until August or something, that's ruined it.

I was stunned when he won that first race. Even taking Jerry Burgess and all that Honda knowledge I thought it would take him at least a couple of seasons to win on merit and he went straight out and won the championship immediately. Biggest mistake Honda ever made. THey owned that championship
