Okay, so where did the weekend go? It's Monday already and yet we're no further on down our to-do list.
It looks like the next twenty-something hours are going to be dominated by the very British subject of the weather. Already drop.io is filling up with images of snowy vistas and there's talk tomorrow of missed school and building snowmen. This clearly isn't going to be a normal Monday by any stretch.
Top subjects up for discussion today include:
- It would appear that Bernie has finally come around to the idea that Europe may be in need of an additional race. According to Grandprix.com, with France almost out of the picture, Germany suffering financially and the British GP anything but secure, Portugal might be an attractive alternate. From what we've seen of testing, it looks like a world class venue, and thus far free from the hand of Tilke. What more could we ask?
- On the subject of circuit design, R.G. has been busy drawing, designing and manipulating some very grand tracks using quikmaps.com. If you're feeling arty, why not jump in with some other European destinations for Ecclestone to consider?
- The Sidepodmusicgroup now counts 32 members amongst its ranks and as a result, Muse pretty much own this weeks chart. If you're a music fan, and don't happen to listen to an excessive amount of Muse, please do join up and help redress the balance next Sunday.
It really is amazing how little F1 news there is at 2:30am on a Monday, however, there's no doubt things will liven up later in the day. Please let us know if you spot anything exciting, keep your snowy pictures coming, and yell especially loud if you're marooned for the day.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm in my mid 30's and have never seen snow. It just doesn't happen where I live and travelling to somewhere colder than here isn't very appealing.
The closest I have come was 'sleeting'. We'd just extinguished the fire in the rally car (minor accident knocked the fuel cap off, flames from exhaust ignited leaking race fuel) and stood around wondering if the day could be anymore miserable.
We had some awesome hail here 6 months ago so I will dropio some crappy photos.
that makes me feel better. we have no snow pics, cause we have no snow yet either :(
All we have had for months is rain, rain and more rain. I can't wait for global warming to arrive.
I meant to say I passed an interesting road sign on Saturday, Warning Otters. I am thinking of e-mailing the location to Christine so she can get herself a pet or two.
she's not having one.
everyday i think i can out last the internet and everyday it beasts me.
night all.
The superbowl is over and it is time for bed. Catch you all tomorrow.
g'night.
Night all. Sleep well. Don't let the 'beasts' bite!
You kinda sound like her... dad. :P Hehehe.
So there has been quite a bit more snow here in the nighttime!
As I live in (or near) Crystal Palace and it's been snowing I was thinking that I live in the Fortress of Solitude. Rather like Superman.
But I thought there won't be that much solitude here because I have all of you lot on Sidepodcast.
I don't know what Superman was complaining about!!! I mean sure he had all of those super powers but what he didn't have was a doohicky.
Yay for snow. Yay for having to drive 12 miles to hospital with my next door neighbour bleeding in the passenger seat. Yay for ungritted roads and rear wheel drive.
So much fun. :D
Flibster, nice bit of sarcasm there.
How's everyone else? :)
Actually, the yay for snow and the yay for rear wheel drive and ungritted road bit was true. Loving the sideways action. Kept me definatly awake at 5am.
There's so much salt on the roads over here that you can see all the gritty stones and stuff. Did you have to use a 'Dab of Oppo' perchance?
I hope your neighbour is OK :-(
Sounds ghastly.
We have two very discombobulated cats who have never seen anything but a light dusting of snow. They've been picking on one another since about 5am and one has done a wee up the side of the washing machine rather than in her tray, which is nice.
Hurray for self-employment and working from home!
gah! have to go to school, even though there is LOADS of snow :s no doubt speak later ;)
Working from home, as I am doing today, means that I don't get the day off. Cuh!
Some links to go with the coffee and the Danish:
Loeb wins Rally Ireland
Yay. WRC is so boring now with so few cars that this article got greenlit with the wrong picture in it.
Testing ban may get reversed
Interesting. Turns out this was the team's idea and they have to all agree to repeal it. Should help out KERS and BrackleyF1, this.
British GP still awaiting green light
Oh great, I thought things were going well. Why are we wasting billions on the Olympics and not lending any money to F1? Disgraceful!
So the life of a Motorsports journalist isn't as glamourous as we think then? :-(
No grit at all here. Was using a lot more than a 'dab' - Not been happier in that car for a long time. No power steering and a quickened steering rack, no ABS or traction control or any other driver aids. Admittadly it took 40 minutes to do the 12 miles, but seriously fun.
He managed to stick a knife through his hand this morning while making his lunch. *confused* He should be fine though.
Hehehehe. Throw them outside and watch the fun.
Oh dear - I thought the injury was snow-related :-(
It's all snow all the time here and more falling fast
http://twitpic.com/1amz9
That's a lot of snow...
Morning guys, I'm so pleased that Newport has no snow whatsoever! I have lots to do today including a driving lesson and the snow irritates me so I'm delighted
Although Wales is getting it all tonight/tomorrow morning apparently...
Grrr... I'm trying to keep an eye on the transfer news but BBC Sport don't have a doohickey :-(
Does this help?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7858331.stm
Any snow where you are yet Christine?
Yes, but apologies, no pictures :(
Having to manually refresh is so 2004
:P
Seems like a good time for self-promotion:
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/02/02/the-white-stuff/
Thanks, that's where I was - but there doesn't seem to be a live refresh. And the coffee machine is broken at work :-(
I need to write a chapter or two of the project codenamed "my booky wook" because a couple of other things that have been on the back burner might leap into life later in the week.
Jasper did venture outside for a bit but they're now both in sulk/sleep mode (correction: I've just heard the catflap so he must have gone back out. Attaboy!). I did propose to fish the vacuum cleaner out – which usually prompts a rapid exodus – but Mrs C said I was a meanie.
Ah, I see. They are capable of doing that, though. Live blog of the Olympics was brilliant. I wonder why they haven't rolled it out everywhere.
They do it every week for Prime Minister's Questions - so odd.
Jasper? I would have thought your cats had Motorsports-themed names?
On another note, you know you're an F1 fan when your new phone has it's ringtone set to F1 cars - which includes waking up to the sound of them. Bliss :-)
At least it's not us who will live comment just about anything :)
Maybe we should rename him Jacarepagua then...
Very annoying episode of Lost last night.
Shhhhhh.
That would be a mouthful calling out that name when he doesn't come back ;-)
When are they not annoying?
BBC F1 coverage news.
There will be both an Inside Sport and Question of Sport F1 specials. With the latter likely to include guests such as DC and Brundle (and maybe Hamilton). Both shows are to air a week before the Australian GP.
They also had a few rehearsal sessions recently were 'The Chain' was used. Apparently the footage from these tests is "fantastic"
Can't wait! :D
I'm with you on that one. Can't stand it.
I'll keep a look out on a couple of places I frequent for 'leaked footage' ;)
Nice one! And The Chain! ^_^
Righto... time to listen to the Chain then.
By the way, saw an excellent documentary about the album this song is from - 'Rumours' by Fleetwood Mac. Apparently the whole group were very close to breaking up and were under great strain and emotional turmoil (as the two couples within the band were divorcing). It was the making of the album that kept the band together.
Apparently the Chain started out as just the bit we all know. The band wanted to turn it into a song but needed lyrics and a bit more music to make it long enough - so Stevie Nicks gave Mick Fleetwood one of her songs she had written. The band had no idea what the lyrics meant, but they loved it and it fit so well they used it... :-)
Dum... dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dummmmm.....
Wauwww-wauwww, wa-wa-wa-wa Wauwww-wauwww, wa-wa-wa-wa Wauwww-wauwww Wauwww-wauwww, wa-wa-waaaauwwww, wa-wa-wauw-wauw-wauw-wauw-wauw-wauw-wa-wa-wa wauuuuuww!!!
:-D
(anyone know where I can get this as a ringtone?)
From my window I can see people chucking snowballs at each other :)
If you have it on iTunes, you can create ringtones from music in your library.
Does that work on a non-iPhone though?
Presume so. Never tried it so I'm not sure.
I'll give it a go then ;-)
Snow ftw! :D
woohooo!
"The on-season testing ban agreement is about to be cancelled, according to test team personnel that attended last week's session in Algarve."
more: http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21151.html
make up your bloody minds people! :-)
them, not you Mr C.
hehe. love it.
our mind has been made up on this all along.
it was a stupid idea to try and cost costs this way, and renault last week proved just how utterly ridiculous it was, by carrying on straightline testing, with members of their test team.
so they can't fire them, unless the ban all testing ever. and that's never going to happen.
Plus... we want to go to testing.
yay!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73093
The bumps in Singapore are being smoothed out as confirmed, which I find a shame personally... also a few corner changes and a revision with the pitlane too, so a fair bit of work going on.
in fairness, the fans should have the option to see f1 cars in action without having to remortgage their houses in order to line bernie's pockets and some of these test tracks could do with income.
in fact, the only one who loses from his deal is max, because cost-cutting is officially over.
no more sparks? boo.
F1 is now my official barometer of the world economic crisis - who needs the 6 o'clock news!
Didn't I post that earlier?
erm...
...
...
...
possibly.
I posted a link at 07:57, along with a story about the WRC and a story about Donington perhaps not having enough money to complete redevelopment...
see, i read the other two! sorry.
:-D No worries mate!
shameless promotion for something else christine does:
http://librivox.org/the-grell-mystery-by-frank-froest/
it's not f1 related, but i thought you might like to hear even more of the girl :)
How do you find the time?
It'll be the last one for a while.
hands up who shook the snow globe?
Quite a lot of people who came to our stand at ASI were saying that.
Jasmine has been sitting by the flap howling and mewling, so I've had to break out the laser pointer pen and the little-brown-fish-on-the-stick to provide some entertainment for our feline friends...
I thought cats were supposed to be low-maintenance pets :)
I know the TeckTalk was not for you but I hope you got something worthwhile over lunch folks.
absolutely bob, and thank you sooo much. doing some research now in fact :)
check this out:
"Formula 1 fans are being given an unprecedented opportunity to experience a European Grand Prix of their choice from within the Formula 1 paddock as guests of one of the teams."
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21154.html
sounds like it could be very expensive though!
Come back to me if you need any help Mr C
Bob
Ooh Ooh OOh! I have to wait to know what this is about... do I?
sunday :)
quiz fun from f1 wolf:
http://www.f1wolf.com/2009/02/ten-to-tackle-weekly-f1-quizz-number-1.html
This is going to sound like typical pub-gossip-fodder, but!
Honda have APPARENTLY signed a deal. Someone I know who works at a rival team has heard from his contact who works at Brackley.
Salt anyone?
that's the best kind :)
Okay strange question for my first day back at work this year (jealous?). I'll be organising all my appointments, meetings and so forth and obviously I'll be putting in all the F1 races/prac sessions. So when I do get around to doing this, should I make the csv file available for others to do nerdy same (eg import into Office or non MS product)? and more specifically, has anyone else done this already to save me the trouble?
A KERS on you all for making me wait :P
I'm off for a while. Stay safe peeps!
I hope your source is better than the italian paper that had the Honda story over Christmas... really should check into that to see if the journo still works there.
Going on from Scott's suggestion (which sounds good). Does anybody in Interland produce an annual F1 spreadsheet or similar for stat-geeks like myself to fill in after each race? I tried looking for one last year but couldn't find one.
Something which keeps tabs on the results, calculates the points, produces a lovely chart etc or is that something I might have to muster up with my intermediate Excell madskillz?!
can you import gmail calendars?
http://www.f1minute.com/f1-calendar/
if so, direct you thanks in christine's direction :)
we don't but it sounds like a fine idea.
normally i delegate this kind of stuff to christine :)
Tom Pryce's accident has to be one of the worst freak accidents I have ever seen.
There is footage of the accident on the interwebs, but I strongly suggest you do not see it :-(
I started up a few graphs and charts last year, which can be found at the top of the page here:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/seasons/2008-season/
Always open to suggestions.
Are you kidding?
ask her what she thinks about otters!
No, sorry. I don't know about cats or dogs. I'm more of a panda person, myself.
Yeah, it is quite a disturbing series of events. Most disturbing is when one of the poor marshalls gets hit by Pryce, and it was that marshall's fire extinguisher that hit his head and killed him instantly. I won't say what happened exactly to the marshall himself, but all I'll say is he certainly wasn't in one piece, no joke intended. RIP :(
On a lighter note, inspired by your recent trip to Silverstone and listening to the show last night, I have just bought "Inside the Mind of the Grand Prix Driver: The Psychology of the Fastest Men on Earth - Sex, Danger and Everything Else" on Amazon for £6.50 plus P+P.
No work today, woo hoo.
If they can't move em, we can't fix em
In theory, cats are low maintenance. But they tend to hog your attention, run away a lot, and have very expensive medical bills. Plus Kitty litter and good cat food ain't cheap!
I would buy that just for the title!
neither is bamboo.
nice one. do let us know if its any good.
I know just the place:
http://sidepodcast.wetpaint.com/page/Sidepodbook+Group
:)
Here's a description of the book from Amazon:
"Reformatted in paperback with new interviews and information, this book gets behind the PR-speak to explore what Grand Prix drivers really think and feel. They talk with rare frankness on their hopes and fears, how they began racing and what forces them to continue, their crashes, emotions, survival techniques - and how racing compares with sex. In this book: Michael Schumacher outlines his philosophy and Eddie Irvine explores being alive; Kimi Raikkonen explains why he doesn't like being told what to do; Karl Wendlinger opens his heart over the 1994 Imola weekend; Johnny Herbert confesses to a fear of pushbikes; Mark Blundell talks about sensitivity; and Perry McCarthy explains why only other drivers can understand racing. It also contains insights about the drivers' mindset from motor racing coach John Stevens, sports psychologist Andrew Walton and the manager of Benetton's Human Performance Centre, Bernie Shrosbree."
:D
Im not sure what the video was called but there's a vid of all the tragedies in formula one on youtube that is genuienly hard to watch. Especially the Pryce one. :(
I can import it into my gmail account with no problems, but from there I cannot export it for use with MS Office. I can only do that with my own calendar. Any ideas? Maybe I'm missing something?
Or perhaps you could export the ics file and post a link to that for me?
Yay, hi everyone! am home from school since my afternoon teachers where not able to come in :) hehe now i get to go and take pics of all the snow : D
Woo for you!
I got snowed on royally yesterday: I was celebrating chinese new year in Manchester
if stays in gmail, it should stay in sync whenever the girl adds or amends content. so personally i just use that.
there must be a .csv export option though. i check.
Yeah, it is some terrible footage...
Wow - I thought your school would have been cancelled..?
I have some pics of a white Brighton beach. :)
Shall drop.io
If you do a search on ehow.com you'll find step-by-step instructions on how to do this.
I have code (Visual basic in MS Excel) that would get the results, and also the news articles and put them onto my ipod for reading later. The results were just the drivers championship and the constructors because I was sick of not knowing sometimes, so needed my handy reference device. Essentially it would just create a text file that gets stored on the ipod in the Notes folder.
no, sadly our school never closes cause it's a boarding school so there are always some teachers around. I've had 2 lessons today but the others were cancelled due to lack of teachers. We've been given work to do tho :(
Ah awesome :D
Fourstar (my mate and occasional commenter here - I mentioned him in the Sidepodchat) has taken this great picture of his daughter with the snowman they built together: MC Snow...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/londonlightly/3247594522/
Check it, for real, it is da wickedness ;)
least you;re out of school though which is always good :)
Ive just remembered I have to work tonight, and my driving lesson got cancelled earlier. Now it's just started snowing really badly here after little snow.
Bum. :(
I'm convinced that the kind of person who compiles snuff epics like that must be very maladjusted – you know, drawers full of female body parts and that kind of thing.
The routine stuff tends to limbo under the excess threshold on your insurance, which is annoying, although 'tail-gate' set us back in the region of £500, most of which we were able to claim back.
Agreed!
The sun came out and the snow melted away, I thought that was the fun overwith, but it's started up again.
Snowing whilst the sun shines is weird.
this is so strange. on my laptop on mobile connection no matter what browser I used I got automatically redirected to sidepodcast podcast rss ... now I stole other persons laptop and all goes OK. time to throw away the old machine :-)
Well it isn't here... We're look at eight inches at least here, no sun and it's still snowing! Faster than ever I'd say.
ahhhh. we're using a plugin thinks you're bad news f1 wolf. can you drop the ip address of your other machine into this site:
http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/index.lasso
"lookup ip address" near the bottom of the page. you may find you've blacklisted.
Not that I'm complaining!
we're trialling the plugin because it reduced spam from a a couple of hundred a day, down to about 30 or 40. much more manageable, but we don't want to cut anyone off either. hmm.
i'm assuming you can't see http://www.f1minute.com either? don't throw that machine away just yet!
You can export as an ics file and that is fine for me. I just cannot create an ics file from somebody else's calendar. ics is probably better than csv because i would not have to map fields when bringing into Outlook
Yeah I know the advantages of using the synched version but I don't tend to use gmail all that often.
gotya. am sure we can export an ics and drop.io this evening for ya ;)
well, I found out my IP is not valid ... may have something to do with the mobile connection I am on while travelling
Dropioed a few pics. Snowing heavier now, so probably more to come. :)
bugger. have disabled the plugin, we'll try and find an even less aggressive solution.
you are assuming correctly :-) OK, i will keep that machine for a while longer :-)
quality pics dom :)
Although I'm biased Katherine has some lovely pictures of the snow from this morning:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kat_hall/
I love the streetlight one :-)
me too!
removed both :)
my old machine is back :-)
enjoy the snow, it has melted over here :-)
My mate Joe has some really good pictures as well. Including some of the Crystal Palace Park dinosaurs from the other day under the snow:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/joelogic/
okay have just had a nie warm bowl of soup and am just about to go and take pics, i suspect i'll be very cold when i return :P
hehe, they're all white!
I'm looking forward to seeing these :-)
Thanks.
currently listening to dirty scarab's remixes:
http://www.last.fm/music/Dirty+Scarab
really good stuff. is there no end to this man's talent?
Great pictures guys :)
You got any snow where you are?
Quality!
Where in Italy are you Scott?
oh yeah. lots of snow around the mountains (usual) but there's a bit down on ground level today. It's quite nice but I didn't take any great photos on the way to work. I was thinking about posting some from last year but it wouldn't be the same as you guys talking about today's snow.
Nothing worse than old snow ;-)
It's snow joke
way up north where it's a mix of two cultures.
Bolzano (Italian name) or Bozen (German name).
That just about qualifies as Italy :D
The Dolomites must look amazing this time of year
I have some friends in Trieste
Is the new posts indicator on the browser tab working for anyone today?
It seems a bit on an off for me
yup.
hmm. no issues this end.
Working now, will keep an eye on it and report further
Thought maybe it had frozen! :D
:(
Am posting this from lclt for fault finding puropses
And this from ye olde style commenting
Working OK so far :-)
What is this?
In the doohickey, if your browsing on another tab, it shows the number of new posts (as [6 new] for example) since you last used that tab of your broswer
Firefox woks, Chrome is in development. Don't know about IE
Must've have been finger trouble, false alarm
Ah that's cool. I use Chrome exclusively now (well on my PC) so I haven't seen it.
Katherine uses Firefox. It's the only way we stop ourselves from logging each other out of Google, Flickr, Amazon etc.
Yeah I usually tell people it's not "real Italy" because if you can get quality strudels then it's not Italy.
hometime for me... chat later.
oh, and the mountains are amazing. I'll take some pictures tomorrow.
webkit doesn't support document.onblur() properly :(
am looking around for alternate solutions.
Actually, Vista probably sees it as a threat and blocks it or gives you a pop up each time it appears
Sidepodcast is trying to refresh your browser tab indicator - do you wish to allow it?
:D
hehe :)
Chrome is fantastic. Running the latest dev version and it's close to surfing nirvana.
All it needs is a couple of features from Opera and job done.
Dirty Scarab Radio is playing here now
I like!
Ye olde commenting doesn't warn you you're in moderation
Sorry for the double post
should do? above your comment, in italic?
Nope, doohickey did when I tried to post there
If there's 2 of the same in moderation that was why.
If not, then it just disappeared when I hit post in ye olde
there was two. shoulda given you an error though :(
Ah, one of my favourite days of the year, up alongside my Birthday and Christmas, it is of course Transfer Deadline Day. A whole day of News Readers screaming breaking news and transfers you'd never see happen. But since this is a F1 place, I'll talk about the snow.
Walked out of my front door and my trousers were already drenched at the bottom. Then the traffic was so bad it made a 5 minute journey into a 30 minute one, meaning I was late for school. And the amount of times I got hit by a snowball, just grr.
I got mentioned in a daily post! My life is now complete.
Yay!
In the region, there was 80 odd schools closed, in the Newcastle area, about 5 were open, including mine. My Maths teacher, who lives in Blyth, takes a 20 minute journey usually, was 1 hour and 45 minutes today. My Science teacher who lives in Penrith is being forced to stay at a hotel in Newcastle.
Aye, I'll find some of up e're soon, not as bad.
Shall give it a try.
:D
When in Rome...
hehe I return from taking photos happy if a little wet. Will go dry camera and myself out and then will upload pics :D
Cool
Safari tab indicator on the (very long) list?
Went to do my runs for BATracer, and realised that there was only 1 minute left, quickly ran to the set up and loaded Joe's just in time.
That needs a name, must bring it up on Sunday
I think 16th is good for doing no runs.
Mint, anyone http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/snow-mint-jpg
haha :D
Hehe
:D
Just went up to the local library, got registered and took out Michael Schumacher - The Edge of Greatness by James Allen. Good read so far about Michael's antics at Monaco 2006.
Anything in there about Ted Kravitz's real name? ;)
haha :)
Gimme a chance, I'm only on the first chapter! :P
Ah that, cheers for reminding me ;)
Just in case you run into into and forgot to mention :D
Right, go to go to the dentists now. Don't delete owt if Ted's name comes up.
ahh, kravitz is his wife's maiden name? that would be very cool :)
We were given permission to leave early due to a flurry of snow activity.
I hot footed it out of work. Do you think I should feel guilty that it has calmed down somewhat now?
Not a chance, it's apparently going to be bad again later
You have the clue!
Yeah, thanks Dom! :D
could you not give us another one? :P
:D
You only get the 1 for Honda.
Maybe try and cosy up to 'me' for another? Something about Claire Williams perhaps. ;)
No chance! :)
Or Ms MacKenzie
but isen't Honda worth more to you than that :P
;)
I've never measured my support for Honda on a rating of how many clues I'd give about Ted Kravitz's real name. :P
:D
Well, you're a bit strange then aren't you :D
Mr C: How do you link to a particular post in a thread?
good question. it's on my todo list. i really gotta fix, what's the comment?
S'ok. Thought I saw you do it yesterday with the feedback from the SidePodChat
Sent a link of the daily thread to a friend instead
Did you get that one? (FF3 is cool for now though)
am literally doing it now. snow = doohickey development :)
Splendid :)
Have Middle East and Asian countries finally gotten tired of him to fleecing them? I get the feeling that Bernie's old shtick isn't working anymore. The China and Maylasia experiment have been tried and judging by the empty stands, has failed. With the way the economy is going, it wouldn't suprise me if the organizers of those races pull the plug on them; especially with Bernie's asking prices.
Now if we can just get Bahrain and Abu Dubai to share a round, get the European Grand Prix out of Valencia, and get Canada, US, and France (at somewhere else hopefully) back on the calander I will be happy.
Funny, I was in Seattle this weekend and was thinking about a race track I drew up on quickmaps. I wonder if I take enough video and photos, I can get going and make it on Rfactor?
http://quikmaps.com/site/86098
This sounds like something I need to do...
I have almost that exact same photo from December when my house got 15 inches of snow... mind you I live right at sealevel. I actually had to get my cross country skis to go to the grocery store.
I love driving in the stuff, makes me feel like a WRC driver in my Volvo.
haha :D good point
Don't we all know Ted's real name?
No, tell us buddy
We did, but everyone except me and me seems to have forgotten.
no :( they wont tell us.
Ah and me. I'm amazed! How would you forget a name like that?
I know!
i haven't. but i am trying too!
I don't think people really want to know... Honestly!
i've only ever known his first name i think, looking back at the comments i didn't know back then and was only told his first name.
i KEEP telling them that. 24hrs later, still they're badgering us.
Don't rub it in! :D
Err, yeah. We do!
So what clues have you got so far?
They won't even listen to clues! ;)
Tom Rubython
That's a really good one!
Survived the dentist thankfully, least he is a nice one.
What, first name Theodore and surname has double meaning?
Why thank you!
Maybe not as obscure as I'd planned...
i'm sure it is, if you know the answer. ;)
So we have:
First name Theodore and surname has double meaning?
And an obscure Tom Rubython reference
Yes. We've got im.
Aye.
and i believe kravitz may be his partners surname.
You need to read where you post it above.
Googled Tom Rubython, is thats what he is called?
No, he's a journo
Damn with my clever attempt.
WTF!
Am using "In your neighbourhood" (whatever that is)
on Last.FM and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince just came on.
I nearly fell off my chair switching browsers for the forward button :D
Sorry
woo! that will be awesome. Can't wait. :D
woo!!! That's great news for the honda team :D plus i can go to some testing this year then :D
You could be listening to Grandaddy like me...
Not much of a fan, The Crystal Lake irritated me to hell
Was surprised to see Christine was a fan of Sleeper
I was mad on them before the Britpop thing exploded
I liked that album, but then I'm a sucker for low-fi indie so far up it's own ..... that it comes out the other side. Hmmm... Lets have some Steven Malkmus. I've already had Beck. ;)
that's probably news too her too... oops!
Who?
Don't mind some Flaming Lips but Lo-Fi never really did it for me
That's more like it :D
Was one of the bands we had similarities on apparently
Louise Wener... Um Yes :)
Your musical compatibility with sidepodcast is VERY HIGH
Also a shocker :)
Flaming Lips are, I believe, my number 1 listened to. I think it said that we have low compatibility.
Yes please.
Had a massive crush on her back in the day. Took quite a beating in the mosh pit at Glastonbury to get a good spot :D
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I knew it :)
Only started adding stuff yesterday so probably not a true reflection.
Ollie's looked very good to me but Last.fm said it wasn't even close
might as well say... "about time you stopped listening to radio 2, isn't it?"
Ah happy memories, mine was at V I think, could have been Reading.
Same here. Well, high, ie Bon Jovi etc.
good. next time, keep that knowledge to oneself!
;)
Put that in the Mr C's crushes wiki :)
:D :) :D
:) Okay will do. Whatever you say ;)
I might, what's it worth?
Ted's real name?
Apparently Bassano you and I are now Very High compatibility as well due to:
The Lemonheads, Elbow, Duffy and Gorillaz.
Well and a certain Christine Blachford which is skewing all the data to make us all seem like we have similar tastes I guess.
You're good!
I hooked it up to my iTunes library with that linky thing (that's a technical term) :)
lol what can i say, it annoys me not knowing something the majority do :P
That's right!
Not quite in the community spirit is it Lou?
After me nominating them as well! :D
Oooooooh
It is indeed annoying ;)
I did give you a clue earlier, but you all ignored it :)
don't you think it would bring the community closer together if they all knew? :P
For some reason, the majority don't...
Mr Andronov, Crystal Palace isn't that far from me you know :D
have been editting photos... must have missed it.
:D
They ignored mine too...
Tom Rubython didn't help much
the Tom Rubython one?
He's like that!
:D
:D
ahaha :D
I've gone in a different musical direction...
A Frankie goes to Hollywood direction. I think that was a surprise even to me.
Oooh threats!
ps. Really?
Relax, it'll be fine :)
It's no good just googling it...
:D
Yup, East Dulwich
Would you tell me over a pint? :D
well what else are we meant to do with it? :P
:)
I was worried for a moment. But then I found I had the power of love from the Sidepodcast community ;)
Sure!
Sorry Dom and Me. I crumbled. I was offered a pint!
Ever drink on Lordship Lane?
understood.
That'd kinda be giving it away.
Bassano, if you find out you need to tell me :)
ask.com it?
I know someone at Liqourish that makes a mean Black Sambucca Mojito with fresh chilli
Yum!
There are no secrets after a few of those :D
actually, googling it would help. but only if googled in a certain way.
Shhh, I'm working the magic :D
I was in the Crown and Greyhound on Saturday last. Not quite Lordship Lane but pretty close. I even live commented from there.
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/53/536/Crown_and_Greyhound/Dulwich
like alex wouldn't be live commenting it anyhow!
Where haven't you commented from
I used to like The Dog
Good garden for the summer
I bet! Sounds amazing!
Just say the word
Drink first! I have standards ;)
so, theoretically, if you did want to google it, what way would you do it?
:)
haha
I meant for the Mojito, but :D
with style and grace.
or at least, narrow down your options a little.
On the case
that might be the best comment of the year.
god knows, i hope i remember it in december :D
Gosh I've just seen a name related oddity to do with you Mr Clapper!
haha :D
Maybe you need a Wiki page?
That's me
Good idea
Im on it.
now that you mention it:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/
being snowed in is ace isn't it?
I just realised what was missing from our karting. Anywhere I have karted before they play the Chain before the final.
Ah ha, just found the ban this track button
A testing ban was a stupid idea in the first place. It sounds like some sort of last minute compromise position where no-one considered the implications. F1 needs to set up a group to take a long term view of rules and procedures and let it have two years eith much public discussio to put a sensible package of rule in place that may actually last unchallenged and unchanged for 3 months.
You will get ill if you fo outside again
That sounds far too sensible
The rules group, not going outside :D
That's true.
A fo outside is quite the hazard it seems :D
Okay Bassano. If you actually fancy it, really, no bother if you don't. How about Wednesday or Thursday after work at one or other of those places for a quick beer / beer related product?
And then I can be back home before Katherine even notices I've been out?
If it's still snowing like this then yep, definitely
Otherwise, am on late shift this week
Okay let's convene nearer the time!
Confer nearer the time of course, by the time we convene it will be the time.
If you use my username at the msn one (I never use it anymore)
I'll send you my proper addy
I saw it on youtube. I don't watch fatal accidents but this one was included unexpectedly in a vid. An F1 car makes a mess of a marshal at 150mph. Do yourselves a favour and don't watch it.
I am prepared to make the location of the warning otters sign I saw at the weekend availble to anyone who wants an otter as a pet.
If that doesn't work, I've given it a go, my e-mail address is available for all to see on the internet:
[email protected]
Cool
Are there two Mark Blundells?
Think the grammar must've confused the reader/listener
I tried taking some pictures, but it was too dark and they didn't come out. I'll try again tomorrow morning.
I love the Vancouver pic on dropio.
Agreed
It didn't, have emailed you
Hurray for self-employment and working from home! {Stuart C}
Sounds like your cats got a little over-excited about the snow.
Blimey Schula won't go to Church. Tom's not going to work with Brian anymore. It's all go!
wtf?
Is this about Emmerdale or something?
It's the Archers.
:D
Ah, Radio 2 then?
Correct. I don't normally listen but am home now and so is Kat so it's on. You know how it is. And I new Christine is a fan so I thought I would live comment it :)
Testing ban may get reversed
Interesting. Turns out this was the team’s idea and they have to all agree to repeal it. Should help out KERS and BrackleyF1, this. {Gavin Brown}
Is it me or is KERS more trouble than it's worth? Should help Force India though, so maybe I shouldn't complain about the possible lifting of the ban (though Max surely will).
Live commenting cooking?
I am making sausage and mash.
I need to write a chapter or two of the project codenamed “my booky wook” {Stuart C}
Good luck with the project!
Better than the archers :D
What kind of sausages?
First chop three leeks and peel some garlic.
Put leeks in pan with olive oil and smash the garlic, a bit of salt and pepper and some tarragon
Isn't that Russell Brand's book?
Sainsb ultimate pork
Since when have garlic and tarragon been ingredients in sausage and mash?
Yes
Yes it is. Is it any good?
LOL at ultimate pork
This time, the pork back and he's mad as hell :D
All of that goes in one pan which you cover and heat on low. Stirring occasionally. Then when it's done put in a bowl and cover and put boiling water back in the same pan - saving on washing up.
Not read it, he used to go on about it on his podcast before I got bored and stopped listening
F1 is now my official barometer of the world economic crisis - who needs the 6 o’clock news!
That's helpful - personally I find the 6 o'clock news miserable. If I want more information than Yahoo!'s news summary will give me (and it's not motorsports-related), I tune into the Today programme on Radio 4.
Since now :)
Funny... I feel exactly the same about him... I don't see what's so funny about him?
Must be a Scorpio thing
It can't be 'Ultimate Pork' - it's not from Denmark!
Now here is a country that can make a sausage!
Another quote for the end of year show :D
And I'll stand by it 100%!
Nothing beats a bit of sausage at 3am!
True!
so is that one :D
With 12 mins to go put the potates in the boiling water.
It's a but too Karl Pilkington isn't it?
I was thinking Frankie Howerd
Hey RG,
Any Spurs transfer news?
This just in, they're still rubbish :D
Sorry, couldn't help it
For all I know, Spurs could be top of the league these days
Use a fork to check your potaotes are done if they need a bit longer then you can turn off the griddle pan.
Yesterday I was called old for posting a link to a song from the '90's and you talk about a comedian from the '60's and '70's? That'll be lost here!
Don't worry, they're not ;-)
It'll be worth it if some discovers a bit of Frankie
Once pots are done drain, add
Milk, butter and leeky stuff and mash.
Mash in bowl
Stick sausages in mash desperate dan style and serve. Ooops forgot gravy.
Don't forget the gravy dude!
Agreed. Unlike Russell Brand, who just talks about his drug use, his love life or promotes himself. Then he switches to a 'Frank Spencer' voice (from Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em!)
Grr
Just messing, shouldn't you be a Newcastle supporter or some such?
Have they signed Robbie Keane?
i do hope someone with more time than i can wiki this :)
Err, as fun as it is now, why? :)
Aye, around £15 million
Still, it could be the start of something big
Thought so... shocking treatment by Benitez :-(
could be a useful resource. especially to a man who can only make a single cupcake.
Technically yes, but if someone says something first, I'm hooked by that.
huh?
On a lighter note, inspired by your recent trip to Silverstone and listening to the show last night, I have just bought “Inside the Mind of the Grand Prix Driver: The Psychology of the Fastest Men on Earth - Sex, Danger and Everything Else” on Amazon for £6.50 plus P+P. {Scott Woodwiss}
That's a good book, as long as you ignore the subtitle. If it had been subtitled "Conversations with the Fastest Men on Earth", that would have been more accurate. And there are a lot of good ones in there.
Too true
Looks like we will have another year of Le Seb. Ask me, I don't know why they even bother testing Sato and the rest. Giving Bourdais another go made too much sense.
LINK: http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2009/02/02/french-site-claims-bourdais-to-sign-this-week/
Basically a relative who supports Spurs got in before my parents did ;)
Just went up to the local library, got registered and took out Michael Schumacher - The Edge of Greatness by James Allen. Good read so far about Michael’s antics at Monaco 2006. {Scott Woodwiss}
I like to see people joining libraries, and glad you're enjoying the Michael Schumacher book :)
Warm up runs completed.
Am using “In your neighbourhood” (whatever that is) {Bassano Clapper}
That looks like an option to listen to what people geographically near you are listening to. Hence the very low musical taste compatibility - simply because you live near someone doesn't mean you like their music.
How does Last.fm know where I live, Unless Giggles told them? :D
IP Adress?
Not geographically linked though, is it?
i think songs that your friends have played. faq states:
"Neighbourhood radio stations play music from your or other users' neighbours."
You guys and gals seen this 'Preview to 2009 Season' video?
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rg90lgvob40
No idea if it's been shown here before but I thought I'd share, it's really good. Mostly testing clips but really got me in the mood for the new season :P
depends on service provider. if you have cable it might be, and the iphone can sometimes figure out where you are based on your wifi router's mac address (they have geo ip vans going around recording each unique address).
but last.fm isn't using any of that i don't think.
Figured that, just couldn't be bothered to look it up
Who the hell has Will Smith or should I not ask?
You go from a normal, ambient room temperature into a chamber of -50?C for about 30 seconds and then for another three minutes into -130?C
Rather you than me Webber!
Hey, if it works...
Did Dank's post get moderated there?
hmm?
just found luke in the mod queue, but that's all.
Oh yeah, I wondered where that video went... i thought i was going mad.
It appeared in lclt but not doohickey
It was a coded link type thing
-130? How can anyone stand 3 minutes at that temperature without getting hypothermia? That can't be healthy.
Is Dank on standby for Webber's karting rehabilitation?
I just realised what was missing from our karting. Anywhere I have karted before they play the Chain before the final. {Steven Roy}
I'll ask for next year ;)
It must be because they are super fit - it does seem a little extreme...
i saw it in doohickey?
me too.
I would have thought being super fit and having a low %age fat would make it worse.
It’s the Archers.
:D
Ah, Radio 2 then? {Bassano Clapper}
No, Radio 4. Close, though.
Not for me, as I said earlier it's playing up for me
It showed in the Safari one but not FF3
Yeah probably... I was thinking along the lines of anaerobic fitness or the super-fit hearts they have ... but I have no idea?
Maybe it's just the Fosters?
we're about to upload some new doohickey code. if it's not broken now it will be in about 5 :)
more soon.
According to Fast Lane Daily, Daimler recently had a vote to decide whether Mercedes continues in F1, and thankfully they've decided they will :)
yay.
How does Last.fm know where I live, Unless Giggles told them? {Bassano Clapper - 20 comments ago}
You might have told them during registration; then again you might not. In which case it may well be playing your friends' neighbours' music...
That story has been around for a day or so. It was a very close vote but they have committed to staying in F1.
It was a reference to...
Scott,
BATRACER WARMUP
Seriously???
Okay, have finished editting and uploading some of the photos i took today in the snow. They are on my flickr if anyone wants to have a look.
If any of my neighbours are playing David Lee Roth it's time to move :D
OK :)
:D
woah. gorgeous.
That's one hell of a cute snowman. ;)
:D
Never met an Aussie that liked the stuff, think it's more popular in the UK than Oz
I love that there's a whole page of lovely natural snow pics... aaaaand then a Red Bull. :D
How do you get the animals to pose Lou? :)
Not a very popular beer in NZ either...
thank you :)
:)
Who has Will Smith or should I not ask? {Bassano Clapper - 20 comments ago}
I have two Will Smith tracks (the MIB theme and "Men In Black") but since I haven't scrobbled either yet, it must be someone else who put them into the system.
There are no DJ anythings on my computer.
Why is it that Guinness is so much better in NZ than Oz?
I think it's imported in both cases
Steven - warmup runs are done.
Lou the one with the clothes peg is awesome?
i couldn't be bothered to give him any arms though. i got a little bored.
:D
In fact it was worse than Will Smith, it was DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince..
... and not Summertime either, which would be excusable :D
I love the clothes peg pic Lou
patience, and a zoom lens :P
this is a drop.io image test (i'll explain why in a second):
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/snow-mint-jpg
thanks :)
That was quick
OK... worked earlier and worked now...
have you refreshed?
He he, that's my mates garden table
more testing:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img-4093-jpg
WOW, those are fantastic. The snow has only just begun in south wales, but i don't think we'll get anything like that. But your photos are so good!
Snow 29 is my favourite. I love the lines of the tree.
Ctrl-clicked refresh...
Oops, sorry
Doohickey? Yes
you may have to do a hard refresh (shift and f5), or clear you cache.
afterwards, try one of the fropio links.
Talking of which, my Nikon D40 should be here by the end of the week. Had to make a choice before The Grand Canyon & Sedona next month
Yep... did that... and...???
what happened?
I'm getting normal things here
a portrait picture (more testing!):
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img-4086-jpg
same.
Should we be opening in a new tab cos that's what I'm doing?
i've changed the title of doohickey from alpha to beta. if your title still says alpha, you have the old version of doohickey.
Nothing... all normal?
you gotta clear your browser cache one way or another. shift+apple+f5 works for me on ff3.
beta
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090201165053.shtml?=
It is a GMM story but they got it right
The problem is probably because I'm using lclt ;)
Mine says beta.
hahaha!
says beta for me...
Now I get it... I was right-clicking to a new tab!
Just left click on the link and it does the darky-screen-show -the-image-over-the-page-thingy!
cool. now click this link:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/winter-2006-surrey-bc-jpg
anything?
oh my gosh
it appears in a popup! thats very useful...
You rule!
ahhh. okay, sorry. shoulda said!
yes, left click :D
Pop up pic
but my explanations suck.
yay :)
Oooh, fancy
Good work Mr C, is that just for Frop.io?
That's awesome! :D
only for fropio and only if you put it into sidepodcast's fropio.
Is there any other :D
we have 6 or 7!
Five pints of
Oooh, stats at the bottom of the screen!
Mr C have officially confirmed himself as a genius. Even if I haven't seen it yet.
This is the first time I've had contributors and topics at the bottom. Had been wondering where they were meant to be. :)
what you're looking at is stage 1 of dropio integration. next job it to allow people to upload to dropio, from doohickey comments.
if all goes well, this will then be backfed into lclt in time for the first race :)
Wow, that must be 6 or 7 kajllion gigglybits
oh yeah. them too :)
See, this kind of stuff is so cool when you're really easily impressed like myself
*watches number go up*
Does the stats tally up based on since you've loaded up the doohickey or for the day (or whatever measurement) in total?
I want it in lclt now, mainly because one cannot be bothered to change right now.
The doohickey is the future my friend
since last browser refresh. press f5 by mistake and they all vanish.
am working on it, honest.
I've had a look through the Sidepodcast group and was surprised to discover that I'm not the only person with the musical tastes I have. Apparently, TheoneknownasRG and saltirelass have "Super" musical compatibility with me.
Actually I can be bothered, Mr C is a bloomin genius, one hell of a genius. A genius, lets just say genius one more time to get the point across.
One of the few things that bugged me when it used to freeze
during races the doohickey is too fat to fit on screen with all of bernies timing. once we get to melbourne, we'll likely all switch to lclt again.
Presumably we'll still be using it for the races & live shows?
wow, sounds like a lot of work.
It means the lclt.
cool. that is exactly what makes the group so wonderful :)
Actually, hope you are all good at maths if I'm in a bracket changing mood.
Go us!
We just need the embedded video in doohickey and we're laughing
yeah, yeah, it's on the list :)
Sorry if this is a really annoying question, but what happened to the redesign?
fun though. new and interesting stuff.
it'll be great to instantly screen cap off of iplayer and upload from lclt and have everyone see that image with out leaving the browser window.
Oooh, do the pop-ups work for video?
Oh no, maths!
honest. it doesn't fit. if you use doohickey on a iphone, there's literally nowhere else to put anything. hence why we have the two systems.
pending. and going quite well.
That's not me then. ;)
Oooh, really? Yay!
Nice, is it in a wonderful black and gold ;)
not yet, here's what currently happens:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/rally01-mpeg
pdf and video integration need more work.
black and white at the moment.
I tend to use doohickey and a separate window for video, it would all be too small to watch free practice and comment on an iPhone!
that would work too :)
But that's an easy way to link still
That's handy.
I see that double quoting is still on your list then.
actually. forgot to mention. the videos automatically open in a new window / tab (depending on browser and your settings). i think steven requested that feature. we can make all links do that if you all approve.
:D
Ooh, yes please.
Eau Rouge in the snow: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/eaurougeinthesnow-jpg
I would give anything to go down that on a sledge.
It were me
You were always getting the blame anyway :D
I have to teach myself not to right click now. ;)
It would be one hell of a hike to get back up
The left hander at the bottom could be tricky especially if you started at Les Combes and had built up a bit of momentum.
isn't that what the wheely bins are for?
Note for the Cooking: Live Commenting
Don't rub your eye after you've been chopping chillis
I think that is where they put the bits of you that are big enough to lift.
Sledging in a wheely bin, that sounds fun :D
It can also kill you in O-week :-(
sounds like a great idea :)
I may be getting somewhere with the Ted Kravitz conundrum, no thanks to the clues either. Will keep you posted.
Some nice pics there Lou. I like the animals, but the peg shot is very nice.
Me too, I'm bribing Giggles with booze
:o that would be brilliant!
thank you.
ooo interesting.
Could you email me at "mogg at hotmail dot com" when you find out something - I might have something too...
:)
Gavin, do you like Bic Runga?
http://www.last.fm/music/Bic+Runga/_/Drive
(video plays full track)
Yeah I do... haven't heard that song in ages. It was a bit overplayed in NZ at the time unfortunately :-(
Can see that, but she is tops
Why did it only play 30 seconds of the track though?
Some songs are like that, that's why I said to click the video
On a snow theme still from Eau Rouge... Heidfeld doing a demo run on ice and snow: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=e2LaFtq_KHA
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :-D
Thanks to R.G. for the comments of the year page on the wiki
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Best+Comment+of+the+Year
Question: what are doohickey and lclt?
More info available here:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Live+Commenting+Solutions
Try them
http://www.sidepodcast.com/realtime/ (doohickey)
http://www.sidepodcast.com/ria/ajax/ (lclt)
Ways to read & add live comments to sidpepodcast threads
Doohickey monitors all threads at once, lclt - just one at a time
I've just negotiated one of the most complex transfer deals ever in any kind of racing form.
Nice wiki plug, well done :)
I got moderated for plugging both in the format war :D
@me: I hope the doohickster and live commenting thing get some kind of integration in the new homepage - like links, or actual lclt comments (w/o comment box) or summink? (Yes, I know the triangles are there on relevant posts, but...)
what's that in english?
:)
Which was?
i shall make some images now. i was gonna wait until the things were finished. but it's taken out 6 months longer than expected :)
thanks!
:D People often ask what the doohickey and lclt things are. So, when you redesign (I presume you still are), maybe incorporate this element better so people are:
a) not confused and
b) can use them and/or see what they do straight away.
Maybe incorporate a narrow column of constantly updated comments in the homepage. ie. The doohickey, but on a smaller scale on the homepage. Just maybe without the actual comment box.
Do you want a pretty Ollie-diagram? :)
always!
Okay, gimme a sec. I've upgraded my technology to A4 though, so it'll be well worth the wait! :)
Righto... so I've made a ringtone, but I have no way of connecting to a computer. So where can I upload the file to download to my mobile?
Like a shoutbox
In the racing league I offered spc to sponsor me. One of my drivers asked to leave after round 2, to go to a better team as a tester and get better performances, whilst I promote one of my testers to a race seat. The guy then comes back at the start of the new season/before end of season with better performance and skill, which improves the team, we are rubbish, therefore for season 3 we will bash everyone. Obviously then offering one of the test drivers to go to that better team to replace the guy who left me to go to them and left them to come back to me.
MMS it to a friend?
It's on the PC and I want to put it on my mobile...
Give the man a cookie! Yes, like a shoutbox. But more for replacing the "Recent Comments" than actually being used for making comments.
Bluetooth?
ahh, i see. ok.
If it's an iPhone you can't (unless there's an app for this).
Good idea, thanks for the cookie
This is GPM2 right?
There is, it's called Garageband
No wait, that needs a 'puter too
No it's a Nokia, and my PC don't have bluetooth :-(
:D
am wary of putting thing on the homepage, lest it brings the server to its knees. i guess it couldn't hurt to try it.
will start with some image links first though.
No, the one I asked Sidepodcast to sponsor me in, which sadly didn't work out. The ai driven one...
Gavin, does your pc have bluetooth
Maybe you can send yourself an e-mail to MMS, but it depends on your carrier company if you can actually do that..
No :-(
Grand Prix 3/4?
Second issue of the UK version of The Red Bulletin is now available for download
http://uk.redbulletin.com/fileadmin/mag/0209_redbulletin%20UK.pdf
How about I link the website I run for it, which in turn links the thread where everything is run at
http://www.freewebs.com/gpgsl
Cheers Dank. Intrestingly I saw The Red Bulletin in my school library, thinking about having a look I was.
Cool, thanks
Yoda, is that you?
*Whistles away
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-1-jpg
Do you have a data cable? Should have got one with the phone
it was in your school library? wow. may have a look in ours tomorrow.. see if it's around for me to take *cough* i mean borrow.
It's a long story, but at the moment I don't :-(
Just a flying visit to say that whatever happens I really don't think you can get rid of the live commenting live... thing. It is bound to be the defacto choice on race weekends. It's certainly still what I always switch to during the live shows.
The dohicky is great for the rest of the time though... Except... I would really like to be able to specify how many messages backwards I'd like to go (up to a limit of course). When I came back, like now, and I'd closed the window I had about 200 messages to read in a couple of threads. Hard to do when you load the doohicky and it only has the last 10 or whatever. Possible?
excellent. A4 is nice :)
i look into that once i've sorted image uploading.
Does Ollie know about the new clicky piccie mod?
no plans too. gonna make it better :)
hmmm.
*thinks*
Just had a quick flick through this second issue. F1 content is almost zero (bar reference to Buemi joining STR). Ho hum.
I like the eye on Ollie's diagram.
I'm very professional, as you can undoubtedly tell! :)
Aces. I love it not least because I think it was my stumbling voicemail that led to the name. I think it is the only thing I don't blame Stephen Roy for.
And to think you were actually kidding
Alex, have emailed you contact details for live F1 discussion in suitable local establishment earlier referred to as 'a pint'
Plug the wiki, again
http://sidepodcast.wetpaint.com/page/The+Blame+Game
Remember the Sidepodland Flag.
No it’s a Nokia, and my PC don’t have bluetooth {Gavin Brown}
USB Bluetooth dongles are typically £10. It's one of the two methods I use for file transfers between my PDA and computer (the other being the rather fiddly cradle/Activesync combo that came with the PDA).
The credit crunch is yet to affect BF1.
christ. nope!
ollie, we need an A4 flag.
cheers :-)
I don't have any colours though. Just a blue biro. :(
it could be an homage to scotland?
Looks like it's Blue & White then :)
Intrestingly I saw The Red Bulletin in my school library, thinking about having a look I was. {R.G}
That's unusual. There were a few F1 books in the school libraries I attended, but no magazines on the topic.
You can improvise, write the words instead of colouring in?
failing that there is always photoshop ;)
Reet, off to bed now. Likelyhood of me speaking for English tomorrow is about 10% but gotta be prepared anywho. Ciao
night r.g.
G'night fella
Lou's quick typing again
I blame Steven.
I had to re-install Windows in my laptop now I have to install everything else that got wiped. After 2 days trying I have convinced it that it is possible to connect wirelessly to the internet.
yeah, sorry about that. although that time (using FF) i didn't notice the '>' was missing.... working on 2 computers is never an easy thing for me to do...
There are several sidepodflags on dropio
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-2-jpg
;)
At the same time?
Two words, Ctrl + Alt
:D
Nice
yeah, i don't have access and publisher on my laptop and i need them for my ict, so well... am having to work on two. oh and my laptop being able to run only a few web browser tabs and /or photoshop it's easier to spread the tasks :)
2 days?! That Windows just sucks the life out of you doesn't it?
i'm going to sound stupid, but what does that do?
Combined with Delete, it works wonders on Windows machines. (sorry)
Switches applications so you can multi task on one computer
:D
I think it was partly my fault but it was Microsoft's fault that I had to re-install it in the first place. Now I need to figure out how to get my Orange e-mail account to work again.
Ugh. Publisher is the devil's work, Access too.
No one should ever ever ever use Access for a database.
Don't get me started on Outlook Express either. Grrrrrrr.
I thought that was ALT+TAB? I could well be wrong through, been a long time since I used it.
And they wonder why Mac people say: It just works
Alt - Tab is correct.
my dad has an orange email account. it's the most annoying thing ever. I probably think that cause dad doesn't really use computers neither does mum, so it's up to me to print all his emails everyday.
And ALT+SHIFT+TAB cycles backwards through your open apps.
wow that's really cool... well it's slightly more exicting than clicking...
You're right
Alt is where CMD is now on the Mac and that's the Apple version of Ctrl
Was thinking of keyboard positions & translating OS speak :D
hmm, strangely familiar.
If one of the things you alt tab is the doohickey it tells you how many new messages there are on the list of items that pop up in the middle of the screen.
Not always, but then there's no Windows equivalent of archive and install which basically installs a new copy of OS X onto your machine while preserving all user information, network settings etc. It's a joy to use.
Don't know what you mean sir. *whistles nonchalantly*
Normally it is OK but because the address is so long I am struggling to remember what goes in the various boxes in the setup. I have an old Virgin account and I had it up and running in seconds because all the info is common sense.
Printing email is another one of my pet hates. If you need a printed copy, then it has to be for a better reason than just reading the message.
Does he dictate his replies as well?
ooooooooo.
anymore useful shortcuts i should know about? :)
Heaps
There's the one with the hammer. Oh, and the one with petrol and matches. (I'll stop now.)
If you have Vista try holding down the Windows key and tabbig through your windows
To make up for me taking the mickey out of Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449
You lost me at, if you have Vista
It's just too hard to resist isn't it?
i know, it annoys me sooo much. such a waste of paper. But he insists :s
if they are long then yes :/ also annoying if i am working. worst thing is that he gets alerts to his phone when he gets a new email, meaning that he then comes and bugs me until i print it for him.
wapload.org did the trick!
Lou, posted a link to Windows Keyboard Shortcuts. It went to moderation, but when it comes out of moderation, it might help you with navigating Windows.
Handy
done.
CMD (or for slightly older macs, the Apple key) + Tab does the same thing as Alt + Tab on Windows, but you can also do other things - hold down the CMD key and then click with the mouse to select an application or press Q to quit the highlighted application, then press Q again to shut down the next and so on until you have no applications left to close.
On the new aluminium macbooks and macbook pros you can use 4 finger swiping to bring up the same view then click on the one you want. Exposé is good too :)
Oh and pressing Ctrl+Alt+CMD+Eject on a Mac will shut it down gracefully.
Why did they change the Apple key to CMD?
ooo i like... lol i love that i have been using Windows all my life, but have never come accross shortcuts that make life much easier :P
Why Microsoft and Adobe do a deal where all the Adobe stuff that you need is bundled with Windows. I NEED flash, shockwave, acrobat etc. It is not an option not to have it.
Three minutes on high should do it. :D
A lot of people only use the mouse when absolutely necessary
thank you! :D
because microsoft want you to use silverslight, xps and other adobe equivalents.
From now on, any time anyone says "Microsoft isn't so bad", just show them the Songsmith ad.
Combined with Delete, it works wonders on Windows machines. (sorry) {Ollie - 23 comments ago}
Unless it's my Windows machine and it's in XP mode (as opposed to Windows 98 mode), in which case you get half a Task Manager with no tabs or buttons. Thankfully I'm reinstalling Windows soon because I'm getting a new hard drive (my backup hard drive failed - not surprising since it's been working since 2000). The new hard drive will become the new main drive because there's nothing for sale that's smaller than the drive I currently have (which is 80GB). My current functional drive will be downgraded to the backup one.
I'll grass them up to the EU if they continue
Oh wait...
Indeed. If I can keep both hands on the keyboard I can navigate much quicker. The mouse is great for things like image editing, not so great for navigation.
Arghhh, I've got that annoying kids singing in my head now
That's me
Sorry. But the point is made :)
I bought a refurbished 20GB drive on ebay
The radiohead one is my fave
I sent it to someone today saying, it's like radiohead playing the vegas lounge scene, in their 60's
hate to say it, but i like it.
Songsmith?
because microsoft want you to use silverslight, xps and other adobe equivalents. {me - 5 comments ago}
If Microsoft really wanted me to use Silverlight, they'd have persuaded ITV to keep the rights to F1 so that I'd actually have a use for the software (ITV Catchup runs on Silverlight, which was one of my pet hates because neither Firefox nor Opera could understand Silverlight, and the plug-in itself had a habit of freezing at strange moments even on other people's computers).
the radiohead songsmith mashup.
It's rather good. The Roxanne one isn't bad either.
I like it too, but for the wrong reasons :D
didn't know that. they had a big win with the olympics, but we've no reason to support it at the moment.
Marmot predicts 6 more weeks of winter

I’ll grass them up to the EU if they continue
Oh wait… {Bassano Clapper - 10 comments ago}
The EU are having enough trouble getting Microsoft to comply with the stuff they've found them guilty of already without more paperwork being thrown on their desks...
While on the subject of Microsoft, they've apparently written a Firefox extension that gets installed by stealth. SOmething to do with .NET
I thought the Olympic coverage was a nightmare with it
Don't know what the issues were but read somewhere there were big problems

That'll be why I'm not seeing such things new. (The backup drive was 20GB). I've only ever bought new (usually from computer fairs, though I've missed the local one for this month...)
madness.
Is that like Punxsutawney Phil?
Hey, I was right
I watched that live last year, me and a friend were live commenting it by text
[yes, we were bored]
can't believe we missed such an oppurtunity.
It is him
didn’t know that. they had a big win with the olympics, but we’ve no reason to support it at the moment. {me - 9 comments ago}
I didn't know Microsoft had anything to do with the Olympics - I'd assumed that the BBC were using a version of iPlayer, but then again I'm not sure that iPlayer did everything the BBC wanted from it back then...
Are you expecting the winter to last longer?
It's a sight to behold, like a Valencia GP, lots of build up, then nothing happens
:D
think with nbc or someone. they handled pretty much all US online coverage of the games.

Disgusting! Did they learn nothing from Sony's rootkit blooper?
There's a famous picture at one of the Stadiums with a massive tv with a M$ Blue Screen Of Death™
i did. don't buy sony.

That explains everything. iPlayer doesn't do America even now ;)

I'll find some YouTube

Ah, Microsoft and Blue Screens of Death. Go together like jam and rice pudding, or primary school art lessons and paint everywhere...
139 SPC teams!
i did. don’t buy sony. {me - 11 comments ago}
I still buy Sony (not that I buy masses of music anyhow), but I don't stick Sony CDs in my computer any more!
Didn't they fix that?
In fact, that's going on my iPod :D
Didn’t they fix that? {Bassano Clapper - 2 comments ago}
They did, but I got given a CD from the period when they still had rootkits on and I get confused as to which ones are safe, so I don't put any Sony disks in.
Lemme get this right, they want to smoothen parts of the Singapore track?
...
I'm rapidly losing faith here. Between that, KERS and Hungary having a contract until 2016. Bleh.
well, at least in season testing looks to be happening after all ;) that's a good thing right?
Lemme get this right, they want to smoothen parts of the Singapore track? {Joe - previous comment}
Yup, you heard right :( Granted, they're also fixing the pit lane and trying to get the initial complex to do the job it was supposed to do, but the bumpiness was part of the charm. Hopefully it'll be like Brazil was and the bumps will come back in different bits of the same track...
I'm staying up on purpose until 1:50am, so that I can watch the A1GP on TV :)
Ooh, really. Not sky I hope
Nay Lou. At first I was against it, but now I like it because the guys have to use the simulators more, and there's a bit more guesswork involved. I'm not mkaing sense but I'm very annoyed at testing happening after all. They all agree to banning it, then bring it back? *explodes*
but.... but.... think of the team formally known as Honda! It's good news for them! Good news for Jenson :)
Ooh, really. Not sky I hope {Bassano Clapper - 3 comments ago}
There's no Sky at my house, though given that the highlights are on Five, I'm going to have enough trouble catching the race as it is!
Might tune in, which race was it?
Don't want to look it up for fear of finding out the result
agreed, they're not sending out a professional message. but testing is good, it's important for f1. otherwise everyone's just playing a massively expensive version of grand turismo except for a couple of weekends a year.
They all agree to banning it, then bring it back? {Joe - 3 comments ago}
Even though I think a limited amount of properly-organised in-season testing could work well in F1, I don't like the indecision.
Might tune in, which race was it?

Taupo. And I think I know who won, but I won't say anything.
That was over a week ago wasn't it? (good ol' 5)
I think I know too but can't remember
Sounds good.
I'm against it (the ban) just for the spectator. I'm going to a race this year, but there's no way I could afford to regularly. A testing day or two sounds like a pretty good alternative to me.
And that. :P
I thought you guys were trying to find out who was listening to new kids on the block :)
Now that one I do know
Sounds good. {Dom - 4 comments ago}
Hopefully, it will work better than my computer. In the last 40 minutes, it's turned itself off and on again. All the computer downstairs did was to shut off the internet connection.
Tell me, can computers get an internet addiction? Because I think mine might just have done so. Roll on the re-install!
I thought you guys were trying to find out who was listening to new kids on the block {Aitch - 3 comments ago}
I have no idea about that one, having never even heard of that band...
Lucky you (Two words: Mark Warlberg)
I wish I could claim that as my own but I cant nobody knows who took it except for the person who took it. It was shot during our recent 20 straight days of fog, believe me it was good to see the sun after that.
