With the possible return of in-season testing, and the news that Singapore will finally have a safe pit lane (boo about the bumps), yesterday was a good day in Formula 1. Let's hope today brings us more, but for now, here's what Sidepodcast stuff we're talking about:
- The wiki now comes under Sidepodcast itself, with the new URL as: wiki.sidepodcast.com. With that in mind, it's also worth plugging the Quikmaps page, as there has been some great recent activity on there. Please, please have a go at making your own circuit, it's very easy and the results are brilliant.
- With the additional functionality to the Doohickey that drop.io images can now be viewed without leaving the site, there's never been a better time to post some pictures and share them with the world!
- Also, this seems to have brought the live commenting solutions to the fore. If you're not sure of the difference, there's information available here. Once you're comfortable with them, let us know what features you'd like to see. No promises of anything, but development is happening in the background slowly, and we love to take your ideas on board.
- Oh, and don't forget to choose between Massa and Fisi in the Character Cup.
Phew, that's probably the most self-indulgant daily thread we've ever done. Let's get back to talking about F1 now... or maybe snow. I'll see you in the comments.
Snow update from London: It's stopped at the mo and the ground snow looks to be freezing very nicely, no work tomorrow then!
Snow looking good in Derbyshire, though I don't think my dad will agree; he had to sweep all the snow off the paths and car park at work this morning and it looks like that will be his first job when he goes back in the morning as well. Oh, and he lives 1/4 of a mile too close to be exempted from work due to weather, which means he has to travel 4 3/4 miles to work in this stuff whether he likes it or not (or even whether it's possible or not).
Note that he was originally employed there to be a handyman...

yeah it's the same where i am, although the head master has left a rather lovely message on the school website. -
Looks like i'll be going to school today/ tomorrow then :/ Gosh i hate our headmaster sometimes.
Shouldn't have checked the website Lou
I see no ships :D
haha i didn't unfortunatly a friend did :/ just one more day off school tis all i ask ;)
I really hate to admit this but I'm finding some gems

What The Duck - Live Commenting Edition
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/what-the-duck-smiley-jpg
how good is that :)
Not sure if you know about this 'me', but on the doohickey a pingback is counted as one of the contributors.
Also, for some reason:
that's fine yup.
that's not!
What the Duck is genius.
I think it's trying to steal credit for one of my comments!
Not a clue which one, though...
Aye, that one is particularly good for a live commenting arena
By the way Andy, I'm compiling a few gems of Songsmith
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Miro+stuff
Must resist clicking link.
Pure genius
Also, for some reason:
Sorry, that comment is awaiting moderation. [1] {Dom - 8 comments ago}
:D That's brilliant, if rather odd, if even the blog software wants a piece of the Sidepodcast action!
Now we can see how many comments are being put into moderation
That moderation queue is such an attention seeker!
That moderation queue is such an attention seeker! {Dom - previous comment}
That is very true. How many times have Sidepodcast conversations been interrupted with "My comment has landed in moderation" or words to that effect?
planned to fix it last week. it's still on the list.
quick question for anyone who's around. have added some shoutcuts to the navigation on the homepage. doohickey addicts can find that here:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/
normally i'd ask christine, but she's asleep. are the links ok, and does anyone have a funky name for "shortcuts"?
it's all temporary anyway, but could do with some feedback.
I'm scared to ask how long that list is...
you know those old cash-register till-roll things? about that long.
'Clickables' working in Safari
eh?
Maybe not that name then... :P
Your Shortcuts
And in FF3
oh. there should be a comma in there. i thought the whole sentence was your suggestion!
I said Clicky Piccies earlier (wasn't surprised that got moderated :D )
Linkages
best yet.
doohickey link works
So does lclt
the only is with these links, is there's no way back to the homepage. they almost need the heading "point of no return" :)
Good placement, near the top
Not too many, good thing
Sidepodcast Drop meaning may not be obvious to some
"here be dragons"
What about the 'open in a new window or tab' thing?
good point, suggestions?
(p.s. listening to tight right now)
i LIKES!!
People will end up in a state of premanent commenting like the rest of us
?
tight fit. sorry.
I blame Steven :D
You want to advertise that?
Unless it's been Songsmith'd
now implemented if you refresh.
didn't choose it. mind you didn't skip it either.
Works in FF and Safari
Tut tut
The only real issue I have with the current site is navigation. Even I get lost sometimes, and know where I'm meant to be looking.
Not sure what you've got planned, but just having everything together in the same place and easily accessible would be great. Something obvious on the home page where new people can go and understand where everything is and why.
Sidepodio?
I meant 'what a drop is'?
Noobs aren't necessarily gonna know, off the bat
yup. it's in hand, i think that was one of the top suggestions from before xmas too.
That's probably what I said then too. Don't want to be adding to the list any more. ;)
Do you think there's Songsmith counselling?
I think I might be addicted
:D
More cheese than a Gorgonzola pizza, it's fantastic
14 song links on the Miro wiki so far, I think it needs it's own page!
song smith? go for it.
That's on my list :D
No time like the present

damn you!
:D
Think I'll wait until the morning to catch the addiction.
Night! :)
night dom.
Good for you, I'll be having bad dreams
G'night

You doing all right there Aitch?
Me/Christine:
Did you guys get a chance to export the google F1 calendar so I can convert it to a Microsoft Office Calendar / csv file so I can slot it in with my "Officed" lifestyle? Ta :)
No snow on the ground here. I think all you UKers took it all.
Songsmith? what the? when did this thing turn up? Consider today a learning experience. Not sure if I really want to start singing to my computer - I have a new person in the office now and it may not be the best impression. On the other hand, they might as well get to know the real me immediately.
It's amazing how much snow the UK has got! Denmark is really cold at the moment (below freezing) but we only got a tiny amount of snow!
Renault conducts straight line test at Kemble Airport
But we already knew that, right ;-)
I'm looking for a picture of an F1 car with all the parts labeled. Any suggestions? The next step is for me to find an italian one, but for now, I'll settle for translating it myself.
How cold??
Below freezing, just below. All the lakes are iced over. Strangely enough, there's no snow!
Not sure if this is already posted somewhere but
Rossi won't be joining F1 and to quote Gavin on another topic...
for a second i thought they'd gone back or something.
how long does it take for news to travel?
ahhhh, bugger!
Surprisingly long, considering we have an autosport columnist who frequents here and you went to see Williams who usually test there...
so, if sidepodcast breaks a semi-exclusive story, and no-one hears it. did it make a sound?
Well I posted a link yesterday morning which was seen and then forgotten about, so no, unfortunately it didn't.
Which when you consider how fragile the relationship between Renault and Alonso is, the fact that Renault were at Kemble with so many more trucks than just a test team was a big story!
they really didn't though. it was just one more truck than williams arrived with. and probably williams are the least well funded team in the paddock.
if renault turned up with less trucks than williams i'd be more concerned. wouldn't you?
Hmm I saw that. He made the right decision staying in MotoGP considering how he obliterated Stoner this year. I will sorely miss him when he leaves MotoGP :-(
Really? How many trucks do you need to have one car drive up and down a runway?
Yeah I would. This begs the question: How many trucks does a team take to a GP?
you should probably read this post from last week:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/01/29/renault-testing-in-the-uk-today/
:)
depends, have you seen the size of the red bull motorhome, the mcalren motorhome? what about all the support trucks that get hidden out of sight at silverstone:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/06/24/first-pictures-from-silverstone/
Hmm... Interesting. I guess this is why they were looking to reduce testing times to cut costs.
I had no idea you needed so much stuff just to run a simple test :-(
i'm not sure why having many trucks makes things that much more expensive though? the team already owns the transporters, it takes one person to drive one and it's not like they have to pay any additional parking fees.
I'm thinking about all the stuff that's in them and all the personnel that need to operate whatever they are using?
Aside from what you said in the post earlier, what were your impressions of the event?
it was cold, windy and overcast in the morning. the damp track coupled with the short runs the team were doing meant they couldn't have generated a lot of tyre heat.
it was also incredibly boring. may have seen the car six times in five hours. silverstone testing is busier.
the important thing to me, was seeing a 2009 car, or any f1 car for that matter, doing something. fia cost cutting measures are taking taking the sport farther and farther away from fans and into top secret underground lairs.
five trucks are cheaper than a supercomputer and i for one say lets see more of it.
The other thing worth noting about Supercomputers - the computer models are only as good as the assumptions made within them. If we stopped doing proper testing and replaced it with CFD we could see a lot of expensive mistakes because of bad assumptions. It's happened with wind tunnels before so it could very easily happen with CFD...
Managed to snap a picture:

Right before the snowfall that tripled my travel time to work.
Are those sidepodprints?
That's how much snow fell in Denmark on Sunday/Monday.
There were no travel disruptions at all (it was just bloody cold!)
Not mine. A guy carried his son out ahead of me. The son said: "What kind of snow is this?"
The dad said: "White snow."
:)
Aw!
He should have added: "Son, don't eat the yellow snow!"
Just starting Ep.92 now :-D
Have posted the F1 Minute calendar export to drop.io.
http://tinyurl.com/f1mcalendar
cool. works in iCal too.
There were no options for exportation (is that a word?) so I hope it's ok.
If it isn't it needs to go in the dictionary
Something I didn't tell ya yesterday - I also got my library to get "The Science of Formula 1" in, a book by a certain Mr. Alan Tremayne. Grrrrrrrrr.
i have the very same. bit out of date though i think.
Amazon says 2004? Sounds like a good read anyway.
The basic principles of F1 design haven't changed - just got more complicated!
Morning Sidepodpals
What are the chances of me driving the 20 miles to work this afternoon?
'Merc narrowly survived F1 vote'
This backs up what Steven was saying yesterday. Bloody hell, after all the success with Mclaren you would have thought it would have been a sure thing. Three votes to two!
What??? Please tell me this isn't true either?
This is why I preferred F1 where the teams were independent and the manufacturers just supplied the engines - at least you knew the teams would only pull out if they couldn't race anymore. The car companies are under too much political pressure to stay in the sport and it's not good :-(
Depends if you're Colin McRae or not ;-)

A Bassano you're here. That e-mail never got to me by the way.
Can you try this instead [email protected]
Sorry, don't know what's up with the sofaf1.com one. It works for me.
I'm afraid that story is another product of Mr Maitland and his Adelaide-based cut-and-paste factory...
ooh, he has a name?
Why does it say tinyurl.com?
Is drop.io part of the tiny hosting thing or is there a redirect in there somewhere?
Because the URL was massive.
Will do
not if you flick between tabs though? at least that's the case in safari.
Perhaps you're right?
Most people don't seem to be bothering. I walked Mrs C to her office (10 mins walk) today because I had other missions to accomplish in town. The butcher said that by spending £14 I'd matched his takings from yesterday. I then went to the bank (for all sorts of tedious reasons relating to an urgent need to set up a business account) and found it closed, with an irate queue outside. It was still closed when I passed on my way back from the supermarket later.
No you're not. It works.
Perhaps it's because of the multi-process nature of Chrome. Each tab is in a separate instance. Perhaps that fixes the problem?
Is that like Staines Massive?
not a clue. you're gonna make me boot vista to check aren't you?
Hope so :)
Giggles: have emailed gamboling
*sighs*
I hear there are a lot of people who'd like to do that...
That'd be just mean :)

The F1 Calendar slipped nicely into my Outlook program. Sure it crashed, but that's just MS isn't it? All F1 things are now embedded amongst all those work meetings...
Many thanks! :)

seeing as i happen to be in ie8, let's see what happens here:

James Allen: Mercedes story a load of ol' cobblers
Thanks ;-)
A pity that Planet-F1 didn't bother to call the same Mercedes source that Mr. Allen did. I hate it when these journalists print rubbish without checking their facts.
I guess we can chalk off another website from the list of reputable reporting then...
"I rang Mercedes to find out more about this and it turns out that the story is completely bogus."
i am glad that man has a blog.
Disliked him as a commentator, loving him as a blogger :-)
do planet f1 use gmm too then?
pretty sure them and f1-live just use the gmm feed.
actually, this story doesn't quote our favourite source:
http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_4890654,00.html
interesting.
Other than Autosport, who are the reputable F1 websites?
it's an ever shrinking list!
grandprix.com
james allens blog
erm...
The moral of the story comes in James's third paragraph with those fateful words "I rang". If Mr GMM ever bothered to use his telephone, rather than just churning out regurgitated piffle, there'd be a lot less disinformation on the web.
That's why I posted it - no sign of GMM.
But - Planet-F1 has gone massively downhill since 2007 when they basically became 'Planet-Hamilton'. Completely biased and this just proves that they are happy to print any old rubbish...
itv.com
bbc
reuters
I thought checking facts and sources was basic journalism?
Woodward and Bernstein would not be amused...
sidepodcast.com
all the official team sites.
am running out now.
f1minute.com
I keep an eye on F1 Technical and GP Update, but you have to read them carefully.
Why didn't you add Franck's website just to complete the set?
You just want Sidepodpanel points... ;-)
actually, yup. gpupdate are good. f1 technical were proven to be rather slow this morning.
Noted, thank you Mr & Mrs C :-)
hehe. and all that from the man who suggested two weeks ago that it was a bit late to start checking facts :)
I don't recall sorry..?
I don't imagine any of the sites that take the GMM feed actually check the stories. They probably don't have the manpower to, or the inclination – they're only in the market for clicks. It doesn't matter whether the story is true or not if people keep coming back to the site for "news".
international herald tribune and the times newspapers.
I noticed something the other day about you complaining about James going to a launch (can't remember which one). I think you were saying, "why didn't we get an invite, he's just a blogger like us now".
But I think, and I may be wrong, that he is still the FT's F1 columnist.
This conversation just reminded me.
alex, on sidepodchat.
Game over.
Oh yes!
yup. v.v.true.
Oh yeah, I remember now ;-)
ITV have picked up on the Mercedes story
Same quote as from James Allen's blog, except this time 'a Mercedes spokesperson told itv.com/f1.'
Er?
They spent years on the Watergate story and for a lot of the time weren't producing much in the way of column inches to show for it. No modern newspaper would allow two staffers to spend that long writing not very much.
All Mr GMM does is sit at the end of a bunch of RSS feeds and paraphrase them into "news", beating quotes massively out of shape where necessary. Then he syndicates this "news" to mugs all over the internet. Fact-checking doesn't come into it. He's just supplying a demand for content, cheaply.
He's only recently started citing the sources of his quotes – and then only because he's been repeatedly threatened with legal action.
James writes for them, doesn't he?
You wouldn't know that from the ITV website though.
itv's site is okay isn't it? i can't fathom the business case, and mark hughes might borrow the odd idea or three from steven, but mostly it's fine.
It's basically a precis of his blog post though. That's ok - it was done properly...
So what is Mark Hughes' Sidepodcast username anyway?
True. I guess these things are a product of the instant news age caused by the Internet and stuff.
Apart from the dire need for a lick of paint, it's alright. Better than the BBC's offering at the moment which is pretty sparse. With about eight weeks to go, I hope their F1 coverage on the website is ramped up sooner or later.
Expect a big launch nearer to the start of the season...
i blame the people who pay for his services and fund the propagation of yet more rubbish. if no-one paid him, he'd stop.
They may be in the same boat as everybody else in terms of not knowing what resources (ie money) they'll have. And they're probably digging themselves out of a blizzard of emails from out-of-work F1 hacks!
More from James:
"But what I’m now realising is the extent to which Dennis is getting involved behind the scenes of FOTA. Montezemolo sees it the same way. Both men probably see this as the final act of their careers, their legacy to the sport."
Right, I'm off to work
I may be back real soon
Yeah but it seems to be the Journalistic equivalent of Fast Food. The sites that use GMM heavily have just become billboards anyway (the ads have become bigger than the content...)
'Tis true, but there's such an appetite for "news" that I don't see it happening soon. Time for a Sidepodboycott, perhaps?
we thought about making a banner:
this site is a GMM free zone
thing is, it's all a bit negative. if there was a positive way of doing it we would.
Bah what a silly morning. Went into uni for, found out my lecture starts at 9 now, lecture finished at 10:05, was about to leave, then a huge snowstorm stopped any buses from the uni back to the city centre so we were stranded for 2 hours! Ended up walking to the city centre when the snow calmed down a bit but the lecture is the annoying bit, noone was told and it ended up only being 5 minutes! Never mind, we just went to play on the wii in the common room...
Lovely snow though, we had all ours in south wales last night from 7pm onwards.
I've completely missed this, who is responsible for the GMM feeds? Who is 'he/him'?
Don't forget the :)
this site is a GMM free zone : )
:D
:D
names in this thread. look up ^^
Webber off out raving - minus glowstick
Fellow called Maitland. Lives in Adelaide. Twigged a couple of years ago that he could earn a living syndicating news cheaply by paraphrasing other people's stories. Bane of anyone who's had to run up expenses doing a feature/interview.
Barring that brief moment of rage, this has been a productive morning's work and lunch now beckons.
I recommend beans on toast. High in fibre, low in fat and an excellent source of protein.

Aw man, that's cool!
you've got to be a brave man to carry off that look!
There was no vote by the Mercedes board on continuing F1.

umm...
you're reading the comments in order, aren't you?
Much as I detest Vista I have never had the blue screen of death with it. I have had many many problems just not that one.
So Microsoft is better than Mac? :D
They also got a lot of grief for not naming their source.
Yes they did. But at least they had one, which is where we get into trouble with GMM stories.
Unless you are planning on introducing a shuffle feature

Mr C, I have wiki-ed this for you:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Guide+to+Cooking+Sausage+and+Mash
wonderful. do i have to forget the gravy each and every time?
Awesome!
Make sure the potatoes are cut up when you boil them... Perhaps I should add that? Otherwise you'd have a disaster.
I think so.
I have no idea what you're talking about, but this is from the other Gorman's blog from yesterday: http://gormano.blogspot.com/2009/02/we-now-sell-gravy.html
Yes that's part of the recipe now!
I actually cheated, but didn't have time to live comment the solution without getting killed.
Boil kettle. Put 1 bouillon chicken stock cube into 300 ml boiling water and a couple of teaspoons of bisto beef gravy granules and stir furiously. The combination makes it taste not like one brand and will tend to fool people into thinking it's freshly made!
needs a bit of a formatting clean-up. Also, sausages are available from a range of outlets, not just J Sainsbury. :p
Feel free to edit.
It's not my receipe though.
Me neither. Changing the formatting won't hurt, I'm sure.
It's not really a recipe as much as a live comment of what I did last night when making dinner. I did not copy it from anywhere. I used the things that I had in the house and invented it. But I am sure it's not original.
For some reason whenever I try and do anything in wetpaint it seems to mess up the formatting so please go right ahead and change it to whatever you like.
I think the formatting thing might be Chrome.
Not that I've modified that comment. Christine did, wow am I making this more confusing than it should be ;)
Probably. I went to edit it and found it already done. I have just realised that the receipe doesn't mention cooking the sausages, so that might need adding unless you like them raw.
I knew there was something off about dinner last night ;)
Odd. Yeah that might need adding.
You're trying to poison us all, aren't you?
Most of us know you have to cook them before eating. It's Me I was worried about...
Whoops! I clearly mentioned turning off the griddle pan, but not turning it on!
I didn't really expect anyone to collect my insane ramblings and turn them into a recipe on the other hand.
I'm nervous to add it as it might mess up the formatting.
You need to start heating the griddle pan and then when it's up to temperature put the sausages on for 15 minutes. It's this timer that when it gets to 12 minutes is the "when you have 12 minutes to go" refers to.
I think there are a lot of extra details we need to add for him. Oh lawks.
Do they make Postman Pat Sausages?
I'm on it.
:D
This isn't going well, is it? ;)
Just to prove sporting injuries can happen to anyone. Valentino Rossi cut his hand and foot closing the curtains. Is there a sporting injury section in the wiki?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73112
Gosh! There isn't, but there certainly should be :)
Sneezing in a lift and cutting your hand and foot whilst closing the curtains, i've heard it all now!
I think you can get Postman Pat pasta in a tin.
Don't forget the fly swatting!
That's not all! :)
I've put up three pictures of the snow around where I live. The gritted road by my house has no snow on it, but the rest of the landscape has its fair share of snow on it. The field opposite my room is still smooth because the cows at the farm next door have been allowed to stay indoors where it's warm.
Something I didn’t tell ya yesterday - I also got my library to get “The Science of Formula 1? in, a book by a certain Mr. Alan Tremayne. {Scott Woodwiss}
Now that one I haven't read.

after all the success with Mclaren you would have thought it would have been a sure thing. Three votes to two! {me}
Are you telling me that Mercedes' F1 paticipation ultimately depends on five people?!? I'd have thought the entire board would be involved in such a big decision...
Sorry I was only pulling your leg!
I almost wrote that I was only pulling something else. But then I realised quite what that sounded like.
I’m afraid that story is another product of Mr Maitland and his Adelaide-based cut-and-paste factory… {Stuart C}
Not that I'd have put much faith in the story even if it had been Planet-F1's own story. I go to them when I am in need of a laugh, as they manage to get so many things wrong and have such a sense of humour that going there never fails to cheer me up.
But as a source of serious news, it's a bit of a non-starter.
Most people don’t seem to be bothering [to drive to work]. {Stuart C}
My dad had to drive to work (walking 4 3/4 miles up and down unlit hills, starting before dawn is not a good idea, especially in snow) and was amazed at the number of people who gave up part-way through because they couldn't tackle one specific hill. What happened to trying an alternative route?
Pictures open up fine for me, but there's no instruction on how to close them and the picture shows at the bottom of the window with just 3 sides to the border - makes it look like the bottom of the picture is cut off. I'll drop a screenshot.
Sometimes people just want a day off :) I was OK I have my Beetle. They are great in the snow.
I then went to the bank (for all sorts of tedious reasons relating to an urgent need to set up a business account) {Stuart C}
Good luck with getting the business account opened in the near future, and may the business to which the account will be attached become profitable, successful and satisfying :)
i'll add a close link.
Sometimes people just want a day off {Andy Taylor - 2 comments ago}
Yes, but if you wanted a day off, wouldn't it have made more sense to stay at home and phone in with a "Sorry, but there's a huge snowdrift outside my house/the car won't start/the central heating has broken down" rather than going halfway to work and then stopping? It would certainly be a warmer way of doing it...
Screenshot:

Other than Autosport, who are the reputable F1 websites? {Gavin Brown}
For me, the short answer is never to completely trust any source of news, in any genre. Simply because a news source tries its best to remove error doesn't mean that no error can possibly be present in any of its articles.
However, with suitable precautions, I find a lot of websites have a decent selection of reliable news. But my main sources remain pitpass.com, grandprix.com and readers at several blogs and fora (other blog commenters/forumites at the ones I use are good at sorting the wheat from the chaff). Yahoo! is less reliable (apart from doing the same RSS feeds approach as GMM, some of its news items can be a week out of date by the time of publication), but still useful for telling me where there might be a story. At least they have always cited their sources in big letters in the top-right of each story...
Thanks :)
I can't seem to make the firefox window any bigger than it is, even hiding the dock. I'll move it to one side and see what happens
But - Planet-F1 has gone massively downhill since 2007 when they basically became ‘Planet-Hamilton’. {Gavin Brown}
Before that it was 'Planet-Villnueve', apart from one writer who appears to have thought (and still thinks) it should be 'Planet-Ferrari'. It happens that because Villnueve, for most of his career, was involved in a smaller proportion of stories than Hamilton and the bias was therefore less evident.
I thought checking facts and sources was basic journalism? {Gavin Brown}
It is. But then writing in language that reflects the nature of the story is also basic journalism and not every journalist (or junior/wannabe journalist) does so. Exhibit A: The Alonso "survives plane crash" story.
Very strange - had to make the dock size smaller before Firefox would let me resize it. I'm not sure this is the correct solution to the issue though.
Damn. Restarted firefox so Alianora's picture post is gone from the Doohickey
link again then :)
Oh, and don't forget to add "the driver sites" to the list of reliable sources of information. I remember vividly the day I logged onto the internet in July 2001 hoping to have a quiet 15 minutes before going to swimming club only to discover that Heinz-Harald Frentzen's site had got an exclusive on his own sacking. Only by the time I logged on, every site and its dog had picked up the story and the entire 15 minutes was spent on Yahoo!...
That thing is very cool. Thanks a bunch.
my dock is tiny and then balloons when you roll over it. safari and the pic fit just fine. but it does need sorting.
will do.
I don’t imagine any of the sites that take the GMM feed actually check the stories. {Stuart C}
F1 Fanatic does, albeit in a "if it looks like rubbish, it probably is" way rather than phoning up the people likely to know whether a story is true or false. At least he's doing something to reduce disinformation spread.
Here goes:

He still gets it wrong though
Same quote as from James Allen’s blog, except this time ‘a Mercedes spokesperson told itv.com/f1.‘
Er? {Dank}
Is James Allen still employed by ITV? If so, that would explain the statement, if indirectly.
I prefer mine larger with less magnification, but sure enough, the photo shows OK on the bigger Firefox window.
we thought about making a banner: {me}
How about "Sidepodcast Pro-Checking"?
It even shortens to SPC...
just checked. he has the merc story too:
www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2009/02/01/merecedes-board-votes-to-stay-in-f1/
i fix this evening.
because that implies we actually do check facts :)
much like gmm, that's called setting ourselves up for an almighty fall.
Oh my god at batracer! YAY!
Ah im so pleased for jackie, and a renault 1-2.... and Honda also on the podium! ^_^
what happened?
jackie's never played batracer before this season and i've been helping her get into it, understanding it better and hatnot, and she managed to win her first race so im delighted for her, as well as a renault 1-2 for us
go jackie!
Just to prove sporting injuries can happen to anyone. Valentino Rossi cut his hand and foot closing the curtains. {Steven Roy}
I never knew it was possible to trip up closing curtains before. Mind you, I didn't know you could strain your neck in a lift either until Felipe Massa did it...
Well done Jackie, Renault and Honda.
My race was erm eventful. Jumped 4 cars at the start, had a few place swapping duels, safety car arrrggh! and then running 9th and hopeful of a point I spun out on the last corner of the race.
He still gets it wrong though {Kathi - 12 comments ago}
Point taken.
NASA are launching a satellite on NASA TV tomorrow night. A good old fashion rocket launch
That Williams exploration page is very good, but the car has no engine!
Excuse my big head, but Woot! yay and other good things, I'm so chuffed and, I've got the bestest team-mate going. Thanks Lukeh :D
I had a technical problem :(
Kamalsky scored a point :)
Jackie won :D
I did so much better than my 7th place attests to. I was up to 2nd at one point from 21st. But I had pitted one lap before the safety car came out and everyone else got to get a free pitstop!
Well done Jackie!
new version of skype:
"the new audio codec achieves wideband audio quality using 50% less bandwidth than previously required"
i think we need to road test that claim :)
Woohoo! Sidepodpartyline!
We need a big sidepodchat.
now?
:D
Well... ...maybe Sunday to give time for Christine and me to get the necessary party food in...
hehe.
Downloaded new Skype on to my laptop and the test call works. Ready for anything now.
They are all moaning about snow, all I have to say is, what snow?
Oh guess who crashed
You hate yours
BATracer annoys me on several levels. It doesn't follow any proper trends, except for the fact that I generally qualify quite well and then conk out in just about every single race.
And my team mate hasn't exactly been forthcoming about wanting to share his data after practice/warm-up leaving muggins here to it!
you wanna have a word with luke.
what did I do? :(
helped jackie.
ohh, i misread that as if i had done something bad... slow evening
Evening everyone.
anyone having any luck with figuring out Ted's name? (that's right i remembered :P )
Well done to you both :)
Don't you follow Batracer anymore Mr C?
Nooooo!
no time.
ah that's a shame. although i suppose your list is pretty long..
Today was your best ever result!
where did i come?
12th. It puts you above Christine in the standings.
yay. thing is didn't do any runs or car setup. go figure.
There were quite a few retirements today...
Truth be told, only 13 cars finished...
I thought I crashed into Mr C, or was it Christine, actually I think it was Dave in NZL
Christine crashed into Giggles, and you crashed into Dave in NZL. it was an eventful first lap :P
Not for Toyota I wouldn't think
LOL
Speaking of Toyota, Pascal Vasselon thinks the other teams are missing out on joining his team out in Bahrain.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73114
Drat, only 13 finished, and here was me being just a tad pleased with myself :P
Poor Dank :(
Yep, I've been very lucky with my team-mate and even though I was stupid last race and started quali on full wets in the dry (what a numpty!) Luke has been brill .. and, I'm actually starting to enjoy the game now.
Practise runs complete and no crashes
Hopefully my copy of Inside the Mind of a Grand Prix Driver and Grand Prix 3 on PC should arrive tomorrow. :P
Grand Prix 3? Why not Grand Prix 4?
Meh, laptop's not high spec enough, plus I've played GP3 lots before when I had it and I prefer it. Dunno why, but I've just never taken to GP4.
One of my favourit
i'm sad now :( i just checked autosport and there seems to be an article/ weekly grape vine that includes honda (from the pic) but i can't view it cause i don't have the subscription. Would anyone who has the subscription please tell me if there is anything worth nothing in it, even if it is just rumours.
One of my favourite things about GP3 was that before any session you had a small graph informing you of whether it was going to rain and at what percentage of the race distance it would do so. Plus you could print out the qualifying and race results and look at lots of telemetry.
I've also bought a new PC gamepad which has fans in it that blow cool air onto your hands which helps keep them dry and sweat free. Logitech too, and it's pretty much exactly the same as an XBOX 360 controller.
Maybe the FIA could copy this?
good round-up of the situ, probs nothing you didn't know already.
thank you
Wow, this kinda died :P
the comments?
Non GMM story alert :P http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/02/03/nigel-stepney-breaks-cover/
das ma girl :)
blimey, superleague took on a whole new interest, right there!
Haha did you see the comment someone left re the car having died ?.. with the KERS charge, it has its own built in defibrillator
:)
Rendezvous has been postponed due to an improvement in the weather
Still on the agenda though ;)
lovely pics from abu dhabi:

Agreed, wish I was as enthusiastic about the circuit.
Someone needs to steal that man's geometry set, try a bit of free hand
Didn't realise he used to be a Touring Car driver at the Nürburgring
And - shock horror - is lined up to do some work at silverstone :(

Holy hairpins Batman!
Link comparison test

Had a thought about Andy's screenshot and from the size of the text it looked like his pop-up size was increased along with his font
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/ff3-font-18-jpg

Pop-ups are the same size
20" iMac

Part one moderated, working on part two now

It's screen zoom, not font size
And FF only, not Safari

Test complete, see mod queue
how did you... umm, wow. thank you!
you know that means i just crossed something off of my list?
a sidepodfirst :)
Andy seemed to have Zoomed his screen which makes sense now rather than link to font size
spot on. best news i've had all day (all 2hrs of it ;) )
Do I get a star on my SPC developer's badge :)
(Was never a scout nor worked in MacDonalds)
we're gonna have to make one, but as soon as we do, yes.
can't promise it'll get you a discount in any museums though ;)
I'll try the SPC Affiliate angle next time I'm at Silverstone or Mark Webber's pub :)
I didn't think the dock or window size were relevant
Zoom seems so obvious now
now you say it... yes :)
I love Dave Gorman's stuff, wish I'd seen this last week
"It was Burns Night last night, it's Australia Day today and the Chinese New Year starts today too.
To celebrate all three, why not find an Australian friend and give them a Chinese burn? "
Incidently, my next door neighbour is called Dave Gorman
Changed it by deed poll because of the whole "Are You Dave Gorman?" show
Doing fine, just a reference to Feb 3/1959 that's all.
Well, that's a significant anniversary in my calendar too
I'll always remember that one if asked again
did he get a mention in the book?
Yup
Photo with his son
My neighbour's, not (the actual) Dave Gorman's
consider me suitably impressed.
He works at the globe now and has auditioned for this season's Romeo & Juliet (He's very good and a bloody nice chap)
Has been in Casualty & that BBC docu-drama on the Dr David Kelly WMD scandal!
Sorry, IMDB says it was Holby City
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0403424/
I was listening to a radio program on Friday night and one of the guests R. Gary Patterson and he was saying that Buddy Holly could have been bigger than Elvis for the simple fack that BH wrote his own songs and EP didn't. Makes one wonder if that plane hadn't crashed how big could BH have gotten.
well, you don't wanna get them mixed up :)
