I liked Sunday. Not only did I keep my first clean sheet in three years, but we were treated to an absolute cracker of a Giggles Radio show. The theme was the letter 'M', and all I'll say there were some brilliant songs that were played in the 2 hour 40 minute show. (You have that time in the day, I know you do.)
But, before we get into those highly important links, I have an apology. Last week, I missed the sidepodanniversary of the fantastic Alianora. I would like to point out that the wiki is a fantastic place, and I may have forgot about it. So, today, April 26th, Happy Sidepodanniversary to the brilliant Jon Waldock.
Onto those bullet points.
- Lukeh has continued his posts on the upcoming F1 game. This time he is focusing on the latest Developer Diary and a few twitter accounts, one of the guys working on the game Spurs, so there will be an extra bit of awesomeness in the game...
- I'd love to point you all out Sebastian's blog which seems to have been overlooked. Part of his work includes looking how the championship would look like under old points systems. It is interesting to see how the new system gives the consistent drivers a good chance, Nico Rosberg being a great example of that. There's is also a lot of interesting stuff regarding F1 on there, so do check it out!
- Something not exactly F1 now. Yesterday was supposed to be the MotoGP in Montegi, Japan. However, due to that pesky volcano in Iceland, it was cancelled. So, as lou pointed out, a TwitGP was created, with former MotoGP host Suzi Perry a firm supporter (as was one of my fellow northerners, Ross Noble). The race was ran yesterday, and you can find out what happened on the website, or look back at the tweets. It was an experience...
I'll leave you with those for this week. Also a happy birthday to Jose Maria Lopez, who turns 27 today. He was signed to drive for USF1, but is now racing in the Argentine TC 2000 Championship, which seems to be the Argentine equivalent to the BTCC, quite a lot of difference to F1. And do check out the latest Aside With Joe, which was released on Sunday morning.
Have a nice Monday (unless the aliens kill us all first).
yay for rg's daily :)
yaaaaaaaaaaay for my Sidepodversary!
It's in my calendar :)
and also yay for for seb's blog.
Ohhh noooo... Monday!!!!
nice one jon. is two years?
sure is :)
Some fantastic links in there, especially sebastien's blog!
Happy sidepodanniversary Jon and belated anniversary for Alia :)
w00t!
G'night folks, see you on the other side.
night chappie
adios
Listenership.
LOL
how far behind are you? ;)
oh yeah.
i remarked in my head "oh no! im 2 behind!" and then decided not to tell because i'd feel guilty.
oh well :D
:)
:)
I love that Joe thinks 12 hours to wait for GP+ is verging on too long, bless him
Also love that Joe dosen't know what iPad is!
To relive my guilt, I am now on the latest one :)
good man :)
Awww happy anniversary Jon
ta.
whens yours?
Oooh 2 2 year anniversarys in one week, scary
Nice Daily, RG.
I've been catching up with FlashForward, was a slow burner but now I'm getting quite into it. :)
Will call it a night I think, not much happening at work tomorrow though. See ya.
adios!
You what? What could ever be more important than SPC??
what happened this time 2 years ago?
see ya pat
clearly it was a good week! i know i was ill, so that dosent make sense aha
It appears to be the 21st May
is that a first year? i forget.
Yeah :D
I'm a baby
hehe
Time really flies here though.... Nick and I have been seeing each other 6 months. If that's not terrifying, I don't know what is....
haha.
so many jokes, so little time
You say that so often, I think you don't actually have the jokes at all!!
You think I have no jokes involving the words Nick and Terrifying?
I really gotta sleep. Gotta get up earlyish.
Nightynight
Why would I be bothered by those?? I said it....
Night Jon
ummm, well i haven't heard any?
http://stefangp.com/
Anyone else seen this. im not here all the time, so hard to keep up, but these guys are seriously mad. A kangaroo loose in the top paddock, arrogant, or just plain dumb.
I for one pray to all the gods they do NOT get entry. We cant have nutters in the paddock, now that we got rid of Eddie Jordan.
i love them. i think they're ace :)
really? Purely for the comedic value?? or do you think they're seriously gonna get a gig in 2011?
comedic value.
although i also like that their tactic to make the grid is to rally fan support.
Yeah its the most bizarre concept ive heard of. Running a competition to attend their 1st GP. Sorry stefan, i wont live that long, nor will you!
And they are selling t-shirts. fair enough. might make enough to make and then sell toasters.
One positive is that they are being funded to build a F1 circuit. Pffft. in Serbia!! Why not have a GP in boring Idaho while we're there.
this reminds me of when you see a mate with spinach stuck in their teeth. You wanna tell em, but its just so funny, you want it to stay there for your own amusement.
Thank you very much RG for the most unexpected plug for my effjuan blog. Also, thanks to Mr C for the, "Yay".
I think the reason it may have been overlooked is I have been a bit reticent about plugging it. I was quite surprised to see 21 views thinking that was a good day and suddenly realised that was since midnight.
Something Sidepodcast followers might be interested in is I assembled a list of links to Joe Saward's Globetrotter pieces. He mentioned them in a couple of the Aside With Joe podcasts including the new one. I found the grandprix.com archive a nightmare to navigate but discovered the web-addresses were sequential and was sent on a placement at which I was given nothing to do so I did this page which links to all of them. I hope he does not mind.
OK, I screwed that up. Did not close a hyperlink properly. The link to the Globetrotter list is this.
happens to the best of us, have fixed the original for ya too.
oh my lord, that's a huuuge amount of reading you indexed right there :)
Thank you.
I must admit I have not got around to reading all of them. I begin to wonder if I'll ever finish reading the Internet.
hehe :)
if anyone's still up and about, i've just published another update to the homepage. this time, the main promo box has added tabs:
http://sidepodcast.com/
take a look and do let us know what you think.
WOW
you like? it's been on the cards for ages, but we've never got around to finishing it.
Looks really professional. I can imagine it will be really helpful to people on their first few visits. No need to go digging when they can have a sample of everything in one box
we can also select which box appears by default too, so when the next webber preview video goes up we can switch to that for a couple of days.
there's some dodgy layout things to sort with old versions of IE etc, but they can be fixed in the week.
You need to be able to choose a default like that to make sure it sells the site best
Time I was in bed.
Good night Mr C and any lurkers. Stop lurking and comment. You don't want Mr C to get lonely do you? It will be your fault if he gets bored.
:)
night chap
It seems an excellent update. If I might make a couple of minor suggestions. First that the, "full page of contents", link is underlined before being hovered over to make it more obvious. Second, in case people miss the, "More", tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page that there is a, "More", link there that does the same. (Is that what we are talking about or have I missed something?)
can do.
where would i put it though, on the grey bar right at the bottom of the page?
actually, the "more" link was new yesterday, todays updates look like this:
http://twitpic.com/1ijbej
Ahhhh. I see. Couldn't work it out for a bit.
yes, I like it. In fact a great addition. More navigation from the front page it good
ace :)
and less scrolling too. :D
Cripes I just discovered "more" too!
By more, you mean, "the rest of the internet" ?
hehe!
basically, stuff that might otherwise be forgotten.
Yeah, that is an issue. It must be hard to try to aggregate everything. At least we can find it now.
Well done.
have i mentioned that i'm liking this extra free time we have? a tabbed info box must've been on the list for 6 months.
I think you might have. ;-)
It's good to do fun stuff. Are you going to try any ipad work when they arrive?
yep, have been using an imported one at work. not sure if/when/what will be related to spc though. we'll see.
Cool. I imagine doing touch-screen work is a real challenge. I think SPC works well on the web, but you never know.
The one thing the ipad can't do for you is multiple windows, so you can't get things like live timing and comments on the same screen, which I do with my laptop.
Anyway, can't wait to see one.
I did not get that when I initially clicked on the link you gave mentioning the change but it has now appeared on refreshing the page. That does look very proffesional indeed.
I was thinking just above the grey bit . Actually, maybe I should withdraw the suggestion. I probably only made it because I scrolled to the bottom of the page at the beginning of this visit looking for the Realtime link as per usual and was puzzled the old set of links had gone. It is only because I am used to it being there I had difficulty finding it.
Is "classic sidpodcast" random?
got ya. cheers.
nope, we choose it.
OK
Well, nice update Mr C.
I am off to visit the folks.
(it's a sneaky way of getting people to look at the archives without christine noticing)
#confidential
and i am off to sleep. night all.
I like the message to James :)
Morning everyone :)
Morning ;)
Morning, just stopping by briefly for some of my daily intake of insanity before the bulk of it hits me at work. how are we all?
Sick with flu still :(
Morning all! Dissertation hand in day today, and I've only seen one persons and I've gone eeeeeek at my own :)
I'm happy with mine anyways and thats what matters :)
As in how immense the other person's dissertation is, I mean
Morning.
Quality over Quantity sir ;)
True true :)
My lecturer decided to mess with my head with various little jokes when reading it, the swine!
Do you have Chrome installed?
If you do then perhaps you would like to: http://blowlukehsmind.co.uk/
I'm at uni, noooooo!! Wont be able to check until 4pm :(
LOL :D
I found a pc with chrome,. and then my mind was blown. Literally, apparently :D:D
#alexisawesome
I am the same age as post it notes...
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2010/apr/25/post-it-notes
Awesome :)
I'm not a happy bunny today at all. Is there anyway to say my whole life is ruined without being melodramatic...?
Hello Alison, probably not, what's up?
w00t! html5 ftw :)
although, did you buy a whole domain name, just for that??
hehe!
Morning Mr C, loving the new updates. Thanks for bringing back the "Comment in real-time" :)
ahh yes, took it away to see more people used the main thread to comment rather than real-time, but stats say it made no difference whatsoever :)
sorry for removing it.
No probs, I find it handy, especially when I'm checking for new threads on my phone.
I feel like I owe alex a lot of money.... binding dailys... blowing me up for a domain name...
not sure if this has been mentioned, but f1 badger linked to some new f1 game footage from codemasters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26v9z7fetQU
looks pretty nice.
he's ever so slightly mental, but we love him for it regardless :)
I put that in my blog post yesterday you silly billy
Although wordpress was being funny in embedding it into the post so it may not have appeared
I already owned... not really... I did buy it just for that...
awww :)
It was a birthday present to myself
Yeah its the most bizarre concept ive heard of. Running a competition to attend their 1st GP. Sorry stefan, i wont live that long, nor will you! {Comment #45}
Well, I suppose if the staff of Stefan GP are planning to spectate the same GP en masse, then that could be a good competition to enter because I think they'd make brilliant travel companions. But I'd certainly agree that if it's to go to their first race as a team, it would be a waste of time entering...
:D
I thought... If I can't have an iPad I better make an exploding Lukeh's head.
It's something that crosses a lot of people's minds I'm sure :)
'Ello
i read that, but i didn't see a video?
ahh wait. it's a big whitespace for me :(
damn wordpress
sir
Lies! Romy and Michelle are the real stars!
Is it wrong I thought of that movie too?
Is Jon around?
actually anyone can help me.. can someone please find the links to articles on his website (the feeder series) in which he's used my photos. One is on media, and the other on events not to miss in the 2010 year.... i'm at school and the site is blocked but i need the links :(

That was quick. Parent-sitting duties over?
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/04/26/a-catch-up-week-for-christines-rankings/
Why doesn't Nico get anything for his lovely Chinese post? Or is it too far in the past? Plus I think Jessica has earned Jenson points for replying to Lou on twitter. ;)
Ah, I must have missed that?
Hehe, good thinking!
http://twitter.com/nico_rosberg/status/12155059684
He translates it in a later entry.
they are here until Saturday but I am sending them out into the big wide world alone between the hours of 8 and 4 for the next 4 days.
They made it! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/motorsport/formulaonediary/7634797/F1-diary-Chinese-GP-part-two.html
Kimi's latest video is up on his website: http://www.kimiraikkonen.com/videos/6.asp
or on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaYRi2PGZRc
I really like this one.
Kimi lazing on the bed is so adorable.
Excellent, something of an adventure :)
Made more real by having recently been to Porto airport and on that Vigo bus he nearly took..
please tell me we've all seen this?
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/83155
Nando has his thumbs insured
Eeeek.
slow news week?
rather
combined with a slow afternoon at work means massive catch up in Google Reader. Just passed the 600 barrier..
i wish i could spend a day with alonso, come home with that nugget of information and still get paid for it.
more info on the monaco meetup with joe and johnny: http://www.morienval.com/monaco.html
Crazy expensive, but if you'll be watching the Monaco GP live anyway, what's another GBP85 between friends? :)
Hello all.
cheaper than any other means of boarding a yacht, in monaco, on gp weekend. no?
Indeed - and with guests and tea, at that!
Ooooh, yay for Johnny!
Cheap for Monaco on that weekend..
If he'd wanted affordable he'd have gone where the fans are - Nice. I don't believe many F1 fans are in Monaco on Friday unless they want to explore the place on a quieter day, are support race gearheads, or are rich enough to do the 'meal out in Monaco' or the Casino. This is a great way to be in Monaco for compartively little.
am so very tempted...
The Mercedes is set to be adapted to Michael's needs
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8644613.stm
Is this were Nico starts failing for michael's comfort?
I hope not :(
Me too, although the picture made me laugh in the article
http://acm.mc/gpm/gpm_main.php?page=2010/programme_2010.php
Find somewhere to sit in the morning or use "I know Joe" privilidges to get on the boat i the morning. Then you can watch the GP2 race which is on Friday (because FR3.5 taking up their normal slot - odd choice but there you are).
none of this stuff adds up. how are they changing the wheelbase, but still using a chassis from winter testing?
I don't think it will make a singe difference at all.
Hey folks.
very good point.
with him 2nd in the championship, i don't think they can afford that. or that they'd be willing to.
The testing chassis was longer than the production model?
Afternoon all
I watch this;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KREYDiy73qc&NR=1
And it makes me angry
I'd avoid clips involving Max or Bernie then
"You don't know the facts"
typical Max excuse
I then watch the onboard afterwards and go.
HOW!?!
how on earth can he be expected to let him past, you could hardly see him!
Sadly Max, we know too much now
I am trying to lurk and not get drawn in so stop asking questions like this.
Wheelbase is the distance between the middle of the front wheel to the middle of the back wheel. It has nothing to so with the chassis per se. They can change the wheel base by changing where the suspension mounts on the car or they could fit a spacer in front of the chassis to make the 'chassis' longer but as that would add weight I doubt they will do that. I think they will just change where the suspension mounts and possibly its geometry.
Then shoo! :)
Oh, and thanks
shouldnt lurk then ;)
What is Schuey problem with his lack of speed? is it an unstable car? longer wheel base cars are more stable with less (usually) oversteer
Very good explanation, that. My question is - how would this change the car's weight balance? Is it based on where the suspension is?
Less oversteer? Does a longer wheelbase promote understeer? I would've thought that Schumi would be avoiding precisely that.
oops :)
ah-ha.
If the front wheels are further away from the centre of gravity then the moment [mass x length] due to the engine et all is altered
Also, the centre of lift [or downforce in this case] will change
He wants his car to be the same way Lewis wants his. He wants the front end to grip and the rear to break first. Right now it is handling more like Alonso or Massa want with the front sliding first
something to do with the way the mercedes is using its front tyres. they have it wrong. presumably it'll help nico too
I dont think lengthening the wheel base helps that hugely, lengthening it makes the rear end more stable
He wants his colleague's car to be slower too ;)
Ah suspension... As invented by Bob Bell
would you lengthen a car prior to monaco?
Id you moved the front wheels right up to the nose there would be less weight on them but if you moved them right back until they were just in front of the rear wheels then all the weight of the bit of the car in front of them would be on the front wheels. What they are doing is just a fine tuning version of that
:)
Yet for years weren't Ferrari making longer cars than anyone else? Only slightly mind.
no you'd shortern it. high speed directon change tracks you'd lengthen it (probably) and lower speed technical you shortern it
I should imagine that he works better with a stable car then
or they're trying anything and everything to make him faster
Not necessarily. Longer wheelbase just makes the car more stable generally. But changing the weight balance can make the car understeer or oversteer.
So he wants a stable car that bites, and what he has now is an unstable car that understeers.
Or maybe they now have a stable car that understeers, i don't know
Which is the worst possible situation
So in theory, this should be helping both Michael and Nico, right?
it can't be that unstable. it's been on the podium twice.
I always get this wrong but the centre of pressure always has to be just in front (or behind) of the centre of gravity or the car gets unstable. So they can't move the centre of gravity without moving the centre of pressure
it depends on a drivers set up and how they drive. the michael of old could take nicos car with nicos setup and wipe the floor with him, not anymore
Do we know what Nico prefers?
Depends on his handling preference. One interesting point Brundle made in commentary in CHina that no-one picked up on was that Schumacher was suffering from exactly the same tyre wear problems Lewis was. Lewis has been slaughtered for the way he wears tyres because he is too rough on the car but it turns out Schumacher does exactly the same
If you can't get it to turn into a corner the way you want yes.
Which is fine if you're fast and you can last the distance
Schumacher likes the car to be really pointy
This is what Ferrari used to do though, they'd bank on the high speed tracks being their good weekends whilst trying to salvage points from the slower technical ones
He wants the front to be stable
No reason to believe both cars will be the same spec
True
How different can the two cars be, legally, I wonder?
I guess more understeer than Nico. You have to believe this year's car was designed to suit Jenson so slight understeer seems to work for him. Interesting that McLaren again have a car that works for two very diferent drivers just like 2007
They can be completely different as long as they are inside the rules.
that makes a lot of sense.
in 2005, schumi destroyed bridgestone's designed to last the whole race. back then we blamed the tyre company, but they were basically only suppling ferrari.
just that the McLaren has more inherent pace than the Mercedes, so Lewis is better able to cope with the problem...
It is just an issue because we have a standard tyre. Schumacher had effectively custom made tyres throughout his career which is another advantage he no longer has so no-one ever noticed how hard he was on his tyres
They can have totally different suspension and aero setups
Good point
in Schumacher's defense, he did not have custom-made tyres in his title years of 1994, 1995 (Goodyear sole supplier), 2000, and 2001 (Bridgestone suppling Ferrari and McLaren).
But both drivers are finishing races in similar positions where Schumacher couldn't even make the top 8 in China. The Merc seems to be less tweakable
I don't think I should be a touring car driver any time soon
http://twitpic.com/1inlmk
Good point.
I did that on my ARDS test.
Bad times
Even when Bridgestone wre supplying two teams they were running different tyres
Unless there's a ballet option
But surely those tyre types weren't fully customized because of differing input? This may apply in 2001, when the tyre war began, but I don't see why they'd do it in 2000.
I think even BTCC drivers may say "steady on mate"
hey all
Hi Lou
most delayed iwitness column ever: http://www.attwilliams.com/news/view/1324
Amid the excitement, Mark Pattinson decided to take on all-comers at the pool table and despite giving it the “me-me-me” before the off, he was beaten by a 13-year-old school girl...

Hello again. Quick question for Mr C. I now find when I go to the homepage that I have to refresh to see any articles posted since I was last there. It's been like it for approx three weeks on the PC and I've had to do the same on my phone today. Is it me (using Google Chrome, could be my settings) or has something been changed?
ah, might be too heavily cached. will take a look ta.
the main box on the home page looks awesome btw mr c
woot :)
it look terrible in IE7 :)
most things look horrible in IE to be fair...
I am heading off out now. See you lot later
see ya Steven!
it's a jungle out there
"To all who've commented on truck fuel tank size - travel strategy is to stay on the same tyres for the trip to BCN, but refuel en route ;-)"
- @VirginRacing
:)
hehe!
Did Steven move?
:D
Well Monday has turned out to be quite fun...
Kimi's website has released the latest vid and I have to say I am rather taken with this one....
If you have a look you'll see why....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaYRi2PGZRc
Warning... Long comment coming up...
I have been thinking about the people from the other week who really were upset that other people were thinking about not watching F1 any more. It's been in the back of my mind. Anyway.... This week I was listening to an old technology podcast because... well it's a long story but I was. It's from Episode 8 of the Stackoverflow podcast and I heard this thing and you don't need to know about the technology Joel Spolsky and Jeff Atwood are talking about to understand what's being said (mainly by Joel):
Anyway... It made me think of some people and F1 :)
I've never thought of it as cognitive dissonance before... that's going to help me remember that study for my psychology exam now :D hehe
I am not quoting the long comment, although I refer more to it then the statement I actually quoted.
Firstly, psychology FTW! I just love the subject.
Secondly, cognitive dissonance exists almost everywhere, especially with people who like to comment on something they are not actually a part of. Like couch potatoes who rant on television shows, or fans of celebrities. Thus it is natural for F1 to have its own share of people who refuse to see the sport as it is, and prefer to defend aspect of it just to make themselves feel better.
At the end of the day, opinions are subjective. For others to react so harshly to opinions is really just a case of 'me thinks thou doth protesteth too much'.
Spa tickets bought!
wohoooo!!!!!!! :D
^^ that's the key, really.
and i think you're right, people have managed to convince themselves that watching incredibly tedious racing somehow makes oneself an uber motorsport fan.
you should blog this.
I think if he did, Bernie would probably come round and give him a good seeing to!
'sup.
i guess he's isnt doing anything to force people to think like that.
he's just making money out of those that do.
Excellent :)
I will.
yay
I just need my fourstar back in the country!
eh?
is he still not back :(
Whilst not looking to disagree with this line of argument about cognitive dissonance et cetera, this stream of comments is starting to come across as that anyone who still enjoys F1 is a self-deceiving idiot.
Since I have been following Formula One, I have seen refuelling come and go, and come and go again. I am not saying people are wrong to hate the refuelling ban and what F1 has become but I still enjoy watching and am keen to see how this season pans out under these new rules, and I do not think I am self-delusional. I do think improvements are needed to the racing but I am still enjoying it none the less.
No he's still in Dubai. When he's on holiday work takes up so much of my time that I can't really blog and so on. Odd little projects but no blog type time.
:( does this mean you're still having to get up really early and things? :(
Yes, and that's how bloggers are born. :)
There's a group of people saying F1 being boring from time to time is just how F1 is and how it has always been. While I agree with that fully and made that argument myself, it doesn't necessarily make it right, it doesn't address the point that the world has changed and people now expect things to be a little more entertaining and immediate. All forms of racing face this problem and only some are doing something about it, perhaps they are the ones that will survive, it seems that way so far.
being in for 7 each day does kill creativity a bit
:( *shakes fist at the unpronounceable volcano*
If it relates back to the conversation previously, I don't think it's aimed at people who legitimately still enjoy F1, but at those who would suggest we can't call ourselves "proper" fans for giving up when we don't.
ah no sorry Sebastian - this was just something that I found that reminded me of F1. I totally get that you may well be enjoying F1 this year - more power to you if you are. What this was in reaction to was some people who came on and seemed to suggest that it was bad to give up if you weren't enjoying it and watchig for years and years even if you don't enjoy it is good or worth it in some other way.
If you are enjoying it then that's great :)
absolutely.
I beat you again! :)
Gag! In my defence I was cooking dinner and talking to Katherine about flights. But dang it! ;)
*gah
Is Bassano still here?
wow! that's ultra multitasking!
lamb burgers, roasted carrots with cumin and maple syrip salad and cous cous
that sounds yummy! (except for the lamb... ) :)
you don't like lamb?
How can you not like lamb?
i don't like a lot of meat..in fact the only meat i eat is chicken...
Picture of dinner on Flickr
Evening all. How's the world of Sidepodcast today?

Oh wow it is

Hullo all.
Hi Lukeh
heya
Hi
ants have invaded our kitchen!!! :( eeeeeeppp
If only it was Ant...
If it was Ant there would be no problem... we've just opened a cupboard to find loads of them all over the jam jars and everything! they're all over one of the work surfaces too! :(
*shakes fists at ants*
That'll show 'em
Quick, get the vacuum cleaner :)
that wont kill them though... our whole cupboard is full of them :(.. we are trying to figure out where they got in from... i don't like the thought of lots of ants in our kitchen :(
Evening folks
Hey Adie
hello
evening all
wow, it's very quiet this evening. everyone okay?
am busing tweaking the homepage box thing, yourself?
I am watching episodes of Scrubs getting all emotional :)
Stupid awesome but sad show!
we knew it was a quiet day when the top f1 headline was "alonso has his thumb insured".
Am hoping for 'Vettel reveals number 2 haircuit plans' tomorrow
:D
i'm avoiding the ants... and planning my f1 themed textiles exam final piece :)
hehehehe!!! :D
I'm alive, just, really using twitter a bit more.
I think my Daily Post might be non-F1 this week ;)
yay :)
Who thought a three week gap was a good idea?
So it's official now - I got what you might call a promotion the other day - as they have moved me more towards the engineering team than the administration team and placed me under the engineering boss (who I have more daily contact with anyway)...
you need some powder for them, or one of those bait station things, they work really well. the ants that is not the f1 themed textiles
or, in Mr and Mrs C's case
who thought *insert rules* was a good idea?
Or just use fire. It's always more fun ;)
Well done Mr Gavin :)
we have some powder, i've left mum to deal with them as it was making me all itchy and freaked me out..
Cheers ;) It made me happy anyway - it's like they have just changed some stuff around and it makes more sense to do so...
i think they do it, to ensure every gets out of china ok. bizarrely it worked perfectly this year.
i won't mention about how they used to congregate in the cat's food bowl then.
I guess the worst part about China is the Visas and the red tape. Sounded like one of the biggest problems leaving was getting your passport back?
Well done :)
Was working on game results and waiting for my sister to appear on Skype
i had a dream about being an F1 photographer in prison last night... it was horrible. i blame the volcano..
good to hear
Congrats sir!
more than likely.
Have you ever seen a cat try to eat a Cricket? The shells are too hard so they try and leave them in their mouths, walk towards you and then you see their head start buzzing :D
yay!! :) well done
Was it like the Bridget Jones film?
no it was like the blog post... a small room a very drunken guard.. and alot of unhappy feelings..
Aww boo :(
i'm definitely catching a lift back with the 5live lot if i get stranded.
Right, just about done for the day. Tomorrow I got back to packing (I had the evening off because I'm still a little sick), which involves taking all the stereos, tables, all those sorts of things to bits. My flat is so unbelievably messy right now!
Good night guys :D
Wow. How bright is the moon?
Woah! You're right!
Get well soon.. I'm sure the inevitible dust isn't helping the sneezing
oooh it got dark.
I can't see it
night Gavin!
night Gavin
Night mate.
I don't like only having windows in two directions. :(
The 3 week break was ok for me!
Saturday was football day so 1900 Bournemouth fans headed up to Burton for our promotion party. (We had to win)
In the post match celebrations, I did my usual 'act like you belong and no-one will question you' routine and basically got in amongst the players armed with my SLR!
Broke the golden rule though and Amy had my camera bag, (Always keep it with you - prepared to get a kicking from Lou now!!) with speedlight and 18-55 lens in it, so my 200mm was a bit tight to get lots of great photos, as most people we too close. Great day though.
Linky if you want a look
A few more, but more 'general' and probably won't mean too much!
Love this one
Most of the other pics / official ones have me in the background snapping away :D
It's a clear sky here, and it's very bright out my window...
Oooooooooooh, awesome photos adie. Seems like a promotion party across the country this past weekend, my mum and stepdad went dressed literally head to toe in orange/amber (skin included) to celebrate Newport County's promotion at wherever the hell they played this weekend :)
Congratulations!
Mr Interstitial Rules?
I...could only get lost in a maze of Newcastle fans on Saturday. Not fun :( And I can't run onto the pitch when Spurs clinch 4th....
Though, well done to Bournemouth mate, looks like a mad celebration ;)
Excellent!!
And Mr RG....I can imagine that was a bit....intense. Spurs'll be good though, you can beat a good pitchy to celebrate though :)
love the photos Adie!!
why can't Newport play Dover... in Dover.... :(
Cheers Lou!
But it'll be at Burnley... And well, Burnley.
Oddly enough I'm looking at photos of when they did play in Dover (last Novemeber apparently) and found a picture of my stepdad celebrating. Wish they told me they were going back then :(
They would have, wouldn't they? Same division and all.
Aye they did but I wish my mum told me they were going to the game when they played them in Dover as I could have tagged along and gone to see Lou whilst they went too see the football, win win!
Could do it next season if Dover win the playoff games.
Or you could pop up here for a Gatesheed away game...
By the way I heard that alonso got his thumbs insured because of that one time somebody thought he was on a plane which went close to another plane but was actually safe all along.
#nothere ;)
he isn't taking up thumb wrestling is he?
:D
Home sweet home :)
Dover is a bit cold in november... lol
last week she forgot the rankings post, this week it was her story.
we need a reminder calendar just for christine.
hey Alison
she also forgot my birthday ;)
she'd forget her own podcast if she wasn't subscribed ;)
A Pic of the moon from here
About as sharp as I can get it without a tri-pod and the light pollution here. Open for tips (Lou?) thinking low iso, narrower app and longer shutter speed for detail?
i'd keep quiet on the subject of forgetting things if i were you ;)
*runs*
i remembered it was may day bank holiday next monday :D this makes me very happy
:)
love it!
you raise a good point, bugger
I've renamed that day 'Cram as much French revision as you can day'
May is awesome
Hi
I have hard decisions :( I don't like it. I don't have enough information to decide sensibly.
Night everyone :)
don't forget to http://blowlukehsmind.co.uk (in Chrome) before bed it's probably good luck :)
i realised that i should use it to revise for my mock the next day... then figured i had the weekend to do most of the revision... i plan to finish revising/ cramming on the train to and from London :D
oh my goodness!!!!!
Night alex and thank you for continually blowing my mind :P
:( i would say the comments are usually a good place to help make decisions.. but that sounds kinda serious, and i'm not sure we do serious often ;)
night Alex!
Evening all. Back from the dreaded outside
nightt Alex.
1 2 3 4 I declare a thumb war
Yeah I'm not a big fan of decisions for adults. Can I just go back to school?
I am absolutely furious at the moment. The Student Loans Company, despite still owing me £700 for the last three years, had the temerity to try to claim £188 off me despite my being below the threshold for repayments and them having been told so by me and my MP following a previous occasion when they attempted to claim money to which they were not entitled (my financial situation has got worse since then). And my parents then decided it would be a good idea to tell me that this was legal despite the Student Loans Company having breached their contractual obligations in asking for the money...
as i'm still at school (well for the next 4 weeks anyway) i would advice against going back... it's like many things, lovely when looking back on it, not so nice when experiencing it. :(
That's one of the advantages of sidepodtime. It's not linear
hi Steven
SLC seem to do a consistently lousy job
But you don't know what life after school is like.
That lot are a shower. They've always been utterly useless.
Yup... I hated school, couldn't wait to leave.
true story... i'm not qualified to judge... however all i can say is school isn't very fun when combined with Alevels :(
i didn't so much hate school, as i did the fellow pupils, apart from a handful i still keep in touch with
Lou has just showed me the Williams tour thingy Mr C posted earlier today. Ohh myy goooodd. Awesome!!
Well yeah, I didn't like most of those... School was only moderately annoying compared to those...
I just mean life was simple and I don't need to make decisions when I have no idea what the right thing to do it. Money makes everything so complicated....
SLC seem to do a consistently lousy job {Comment #391}
True. Ask the rather large number of students who had trouble getting money out of them in the first place this academic year. It would be nice if my parents would work this out and not be scared by the letter they sent illegally happening to be in a colour scheme other than monochrome. Then I might actually be able to get their assistance in sorting the mess out because all they seem to want to do at the moment is scream at me for the SLC's mistakes :(
ahhh that's fair enough. I opened my first bank account on my own today.. it was both terrifying and brilliant! :)
I went into Santander the other day, was disappointed in seeing Lewis Hamilton just the once. Am surprised he wasn't everywhere.
my friend had to get some money out of a santander bank the other day and i walked straight into one of the life size cardboard cut outs of him. It took me a moment to realise it was just a cut out..
helo peeps - just popping in for a quick hello before bedtime! :)
i can't imagine what would have happened if it had been a cut out of the other mclaren driver
i think it'd have been dribbled on :)
It might have been stolen. ;)
There might have been a ear piercing 'eek', I think. Then an embarrased look...
hello! *waves*
hellllo Rocket. How ya doing?
omg that would have been both extremely embarrassing and almost disappointing lol :D
*waves back!*
yes!!
(not that i would ever steal)..
are you adding extra 'L's for me cos I forgot one?! good thanx
Back to the Moon
That's about as good as I could get.
But also very, very funny.
Of course not! It can't be helped if the cut out of Jense chose to follow you home.
Hello
funny for my friend, i would have probably made her take a pic of me with it knowing me..
Nope, I just like to go over the top at times...
wow!!! that's awesome!
the best attempt i could get yesterday with my digi camera was this
i think if they did life size Jenson cutouts I'd have to buy one from them!
heheh you know me too well....
that's cool!!
That's cracking. What settings did you use if you don't mind me asking?
I can't get rid of the 'noise' even at such a low ISO. Tried adjusting the F stop and shutter speed to no avail :(
i kinda cheated.. i used my digi camera (nikon P90) with it's awesome stabilisation and zoom lens. I just had it on autofocus (waaay too fiddly to try and adjust the iso too much).
All the info on the pic is here though
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/4552234514/meta/
that is always a problem :( i have the same issue when i try and shoot the moon with my digi slr :(
Cheers...it's the 441mm that's the key methinks - 200mm isn't tight enough to allow enough light to the sensor / get close enough to allow the detail in!
Good fun playing though - thanks for sharing :)
You should remember that it's sunny on the moon, so follow the normal rules - sunny f16 :)
To get more detail you need a longer lens, I'm assuming that these are crops - I know even with my 300mm the moon isn't that big in the frame.
Some good advice and information on Moon photos here:

Is it mad to move house to take a job that pays less than your current one?? Why am I even thinking about this....
not if it's you dream job...
What's the attraction of the new job?
you want to move to get a job that pays less?.. when you're saving?...
actually, will you enjoy the job more than your current one?
They have offices in Dubai.... They won't guarantee I'd even be considered for a job there though. All they would say is that they'd guarantee I wouldn't be considered if I wasn't already working for them....
i agree with everyone else's comments.
off to bed, night all
Cheers
night!
night mate.
Does that mean going back to uni is cancelled? If you want a job in Dubai apply for jobs in Dubai. If someone offers you a job with jam tomorrow you are unlikely to get the jam because you have already started with them. This lot are not promising jam any time. They are only saying that if you don't work for them they won't give you jam.
night - i think i need to go to bed too - catch ya later! xx
That's not really what they said. I've been unfair. I've worked with them before and liked it. If I didn't have to move (again!) I'd take it no problem. The moving thing is just annoying though....
Sounds like the shift change then, night from me n'all. lotsa love.
Night startledbunny and RocketRedhead
You need to come and work for me as a management consultant.
Surely changing jobs for less money is an issue. Especially if you are still considering going back to uni
Make me an offer
It's enough money though. It's not a badly paid job. It's less money and responsiblity but it's enough. Uni is not off. But I have 18 months between then and now.....
Meanwhile in Karun Chandhok news, Grand Prix Diary tweeted this:
@karunchandhok http://twitpic.com/1iob04 - Chandhok in trouble for promoting Lotus: http://tinyurl.com/35nt5bk
which elicited this response..:
@GrandPrixDiary What ??? Maaaaan, it must be a slow news week in F1 when a tissue box from india makes a story !!! Hahaha...
Maaaaan, it must be a slow news week in F1 when a tissue box from india makes a story !!! Hahaha... {Comment #449}
Can I admit to being a tad confused by this?
Yeah I probably did that wrong.
Rob at Grand Prix Diary found a photo and put this on his site: http://grandprixdiary.com/2009-grand-prix-drivers/chandhok-in-trouble-with-hrt-bosses-for-promoting-lotus
With my lot, a bag of jelly tots every other Friday and a Curly Whirly or the first Tuesday of every month.
We'll make you re-apply for your job in 6 months, but take away your Jelly Tots after month 3.
When can you start?
I thought you were going back to uni this summer. I assume yu have Nick looking for a job for you with someone in Dubai. I would think you would be a lot better off financially if you got an offer to go there rather than being transferred by a company that you are working for here. Generally being transferred just doesn't pay as well.
Yeah I probably did that wrong.

Sorry, I must have worded my previous comment wrong. I can see what you're talking about - I just can't see how that box constitutes promoting a sponsor. It's not like anyone would expect him to be promoting anything in such casual gear...
It is satire.
It's just a big joke isn't it? I took it all as a joke anyways
Retail jobs over there pay peanuts.... It's not really practical for him to find something. His friends are too sexist, or he is....
You got me at Curly Wurly
I am bored right now so give me an hour to get there.
It's just a big joke isn't it? I took it all as a joke anyways {Comment #456}
Oh, I see. I'm probably in the wrong mood for it...
Yet you still want to move there
Excellent Steven.
On that note I'm off to bed. See you later everyone.
This company would pay me an acceptable wage.
I'm gonna head off as well. Seems to be 'whiny night' on Twitter and since I've been in the comments on and off since lunchtime I should have a break from here too.
Perhaps an ep of House...
I can see your dilemma.... I wish I could help but I'm just as bad at making decisions like this so all I can do is wish you luck :)
does it work out being really expensive if you had to move and then get this job and then move to Dubai?..
When do I start?
Good night
I meant you want to move closer to the sexists
Night Pat
night to everyone leaving
Tomorrow morning please.
If you can be in the office for 08:30 I'll sort your induction and pass out. If you last till 17:30 I'll advance you your Curly Whirly and give you 50p for the bus ride home.
Hah is there somewhere I can move to where there will be none....?
I'd have to do some sort of flatshare I guess. That aspect isn't too expensive then I guess Nick would help me with money until I get settled.... I'm just a bit confused.
now there's a conversation to walk into the middle of...
Sounds good to me.
A rise on my first day and chocolate. Does life get any better
No but it seems odd you want to move somewhere where you know there are some
Apparently I just got a new job
not bad going for twenty to midnight on a monday.
How did it get to be that time?
i'd ask for overtime
I feel like I have failed Bassano :(
time sucks!... i still hae so much to do!
For an interview?
Who did you not get drunk?
if he is disappointed... tell him that Em was suffering with her second day of a hang over today.. lol
I hate Guiness!
i once got paid travel, for an interview
That is a serious hangover. Ouch!
YOU FREAKIN' WHAT?
THat used to be normal practise for all interviews. Now you only get it if flights are involved
I know :( I'm sorry.
I just want something with...well...taste
I hate it too. It's like drinking tarmac
were flights involved?
yaaaaaaay
she went to a friends 18th surprise party on Saturday..
was the hangover the surprise?
but thats not drunk, thats coma styled hangovers!
Nope. Only comments
and got surprisingly drunk
I couldn't stomach the Guiness so was advised that a bottle of Jacques was nice, so I did, now I feel ill. I didn't even finish it all!
i think maybe the 2 hours sleep she got may also be a factor... she was feeling much better by this afternoon though.. much less grumpy :)
bah, you may have to settle for the chocolate
this is Em, im not sure it was that surprising ;)
:D maybe the second day of it?..
she said to me she is worried you all think of her as someone who gets drunk all of the time.. i told her you didn't.. well... not really.
i've never seen her sober
you have...
oh wait. that isn't true
Us? No. Not really. We know she doesn't get drunk once she is in the second day of a hangover
:D
