I liked Sunday. Not only did I keep my first clean sheet in three years, but we were treated to an absolute cracker of a Giggles Radio show. The theme was the letter 'M', and all I'll say there were some brilliant songs that were played in the 2 hour 40 minute show. (You have that time in the day, I know you do.)

But, before we get into those highly important links, I have an apology. Last week, I missed the sidepodanniversary of the fantastic Alianora. I would like to point out that the wiki is a fantastic place, and I may have forgot about it. So, today, April 26th, Happy Sidepodanniversary to the brilliant Jon Waldock.

Onto those bullet points.

  • Lukeh has continued his posts on the upcoming F1 game. This time he is focusing on the latest Developer Diary and a few twitter accounts, one of the guys working on the game Spurs, so there will be an extra bit of awesomeness in the game...
  • I'd love to point you all out Sebastian's blog which seems to have been overlooked. Part of his work includes looking how the championship would look like under old points systems. It is interesting to see how the new system gives the consistent drivers a good chance, Nico Rosberg being a great example of that. There's is also a lot of interesting stuff regarding F1 on there, so do check it out!
  • Something not exactly F1 now. Yesterday was supposed to be the MotoGP in Montegi, Japan. However, due to that pesky volcano in Iceland, it was cancelled. So, as lou pointed out, a TwitGP was created, with former MotoGP host Suzi Perry a firm supporter (as was one of my fellow northerners, Ross Noble). The race was ran yesterday, and you can find out what happened on the website, or look back at the tweets. It was an experience...

I'll leave you with those for this week. Also a happy birthday to Jose Maria Lopez, who turns 27 today. He was signed to drive for USF1, but is now racing in the Argentine TC 2000 Championship, which seems to be the Argentine equivalent to the BTCC, quite a lot of difference to F1. And do check out the latest Aside With Joe, which was released on Sunday morning.

Have a nice Monday (unless the aliens kill us all first).

Anyone else seen this. im not here all the time, so hard to keep up, but these guys are seriously mad. A kangaroo loose in the top paddock, arrogant, or just plain dumb.

I for one pray to all the gods they do NOT get entry. We cant have nutters in the paddock, now that we got rid of Eddie Jordan.

  • me26/04/2010 at 01:09

really? Purely for the comedic value?? or do you think they're seriously gonna get a gig in 2011?

    comedic value.

although i also like that their tactic to make the grid is to rally fan support.

  • KerbRider26/04/2010 at 01:26

Yeah its the most bizarre concept ive heard of. Running a competition to attend their 1st GP. Sorry stefan, i wont live that long, nor will you!

And they are selling t-shirts. fair enough. might make enough to make and then sell toasters.

One positive is that they are being funded to build a F1 circuit. Pffft. in Serbia!! Why not have a GP in boring Idaho while we're there.

this reminds me of when you see a mate with spinach stuck in their teeth. You wanna tell em, but its just so funny, you want it to stay there for your own amusement.

Thank you very much RG for the most unexpected plug for my effjuan blog. Also, thanks to Mr C for the, "Yay".

I think the reason it may have been overlooked is I have been a bit reticent about plugging it. I was quite surprised to see 21 views thinking that was a good day and suddenly realised that was since midnight.

Something Sidepodcast followers might be interested in is I assembled a list of links to Joe Saward's Globetrotter pieces. He mentioned them in a couple of the Aside With Joe podcasts including the new one. I found the grandprix.com archive a nightmare to navigate but discovered the web-addresses were sequential and was sent on a placement at which I was given nothing to do so I did this page which links to all of them. I hope he does not mind.

  • Sebastian (Birmingham, UK)26/04/2010 at 01:49

OK, I screwed that up. Did not close a hyperlink properly. The link to the Globetrotter list is this.

  • me26/04/2010 at 02:06

happens to the best of us, have fixed the original for ya too.

Looks really professional. I can imagine it will be really helpful to people on their first few visits. No need to go digging when they can have a sample of everything in one box

  • me26/04/2010 at 02:30

we can also select which box appears by default too, so when the next webber preview video goes up we can switch to that for a couple of days.

there's some dodgy layout things to sort with old versions of IE etc, but they can be fixed in the week.

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 02:31

It seems an excellent update. If I might make a couple of minor suggestions. First that the, "full page of contents", link is underlined before being hovered over to make it more obvious. Second, in case people miss the, "More", tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page that there is a, "More", link there that does the same. (Is that what we are talking about or have I missed something?)

  • me26/04/2010 at 02:48

    can do.

where would i put it though, on the grey bar right at the bottom of the page?

Yeah, that is an issue. It must be hard to try to aggregate everything. At least we can find it now.

    Well done.

  • me26/04/2010 at 02:56

    Well done.

have i mentioned that i'm liking this extra free time we have? a tabbed info box must've been on the list for 6 months.

  • me26/04/2010 at 03:00

yep, have been using an imported one at work. not sure if/when/what will be related to spc though. we'll see.

  • paul26/04/2010 at 03:02

yep, have been using an imported one at work. not sure if/when/what will be related to spc though. we'll see.

Cool. I imagine doing touch-screen work is a real challenge. I think SPC works well on the web, but you never know.

The one thing the ipad can't do for you is multiple windows, so you can't get things like live timing and comments on the same screen, which I do with my laptop.

Anyway, can't wait to see one.

  • Sebastian (Birmingham, UK)26/04/2010 at 03:02

actually, the "more" link was new yesterday, todays updates look like this:

I did not get that when I initially clicked on the link you gave mentioning the change but it has now appeared on refreshing the page. That does look very proffesional indeed.

where would i put it though, on the grey bar right at the bottom of the page?

I was thinking just above the grey bit . Actually, maybe I should withdraw the suggestion. I probably only made it because I scrolled to the bottom of the page at the beginning of this visit looking for the Realtime link as per usual and was puzzled the old set of links had gone. It is only because I am used to it being there I had difficulty finding it.

    Yeah its the most bizarre concept ive heard of. Running a competition to attend their 1st GP. Sorry stefan, i wont live that long, nor will you! {Comment #45}

Well, I suppose if the staff of Stefan GP are planning to spectate the same GP en masse, then that could be a good competition to enter because I think they'd make brilliant travel companions. But I'd certainly agree that if it's to go to their first race as a team, it would be a waste of time entering...

Cheap for Monaco on that weekend..

If he'd wanted affordable he'd have gone where the fans are - Nice. I don't believe many F1 fans are in Monaco on Friday unless they want to explore the place on a quieter day, are support race gearheads, or are rich enough to do the 'meal out in Monaco' or the Casino. This is a great way to be in Monaco for compartively little.

I am trying to lurk and not get drawn in so stop asking questions like this.

Wheelbase is the distance between the middle of the front wheel to the middle of the back wheel. It has nothing to so with the chassis per se. They can change the wheel base by changing where the suspension mounts on the car or they could fit a spacer in front of the chassis to make the 'chassis' longer but as that would add weight I doubt they will do that. I think they will just change where the suspension mounts and possibly its geometry.

  • Bassano26/04/2010 at 15:15

What is Schuey problem with his lack of speed? is it an unstable car? longer wheel base cars are more stable with less (usually) oversteer

  • Journeyer26/04/2010 at 15:16

Very good explanation, that. My question is - how would this change the car's weight balance? Is it based on where the suspension is?

  • Journeyer26/04/2010 at 15:17

What is Schuey problem with his lack of speed? is it an unstable car? longer wheel base cars are more stable with less (usually) oversteer

Less oversteer? Does a longer wheelbase promote understeer? I would've thought that Schumi would be avoiding precisely that.

  • me26/04/2010 at 15:17

I am trying to lurk and not get drawn in so stop asking questions like this.

  • Bassano26/04/2010 at 15:18

Very good explanation, that. My question is - how would this change the car's weight balance? Is it based on where the suspension is?

If the front wheels are further away from the centre of gravity then the moment [mass x length] due to the engine et all is altered

Also, the centre of lift [or downforce in this case] will change

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:18

What is Schuey problem with his lack of speed? is it an unstable car? longer wheel base cars are more stable with less (usually) oversteer

He wants his car to be the same way Lewis wants his. He wants the front end to grip and the rear to break first. Right now it is handling more like Alonso or Massa want with the front sliding first

  • me26/04/2010 at 15:18

something to do with the way the mercedes is using its front tyres. they have it wrong. presumably it'll help nico too

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock26/04/2010 at 15:19

He wants his car to be the same way Lewis wants his. He wants the front end to grip and the rear to break first. Right now it is handling more like Alonso or Massa want with the front sliding first

I dont think lengthening the wheel base helps that hugely, lengthening it makes the rear end more stable

  • Bassano26/04/2010 at 15:19

Ah suspension... As invented by Bob Bell

would you lengthen a car prior to monaco?

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:20

Very good explanation, that. My question is - how would this change the car's weight balance? Is it based on where the suspension is?

Id you moved the front wheels right up to the nose there would be less weight on them but if you moved them right back until they were just in front of the rear wheels then all the weight of the bit of the car in front of them would be on the front wheels. What they are doing is just a fine tuning version of that

  • Bassano26/04/2010 at 15:20

Ah suspension... As invented by Bob Bell

    :)

  • Pat W26/04/2010 at 15:20

Yet for years weren't Ferrari making longer cars than anyone else? Only slightly mind.

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock26/04/2010 at 15:21

would you lengthen a car prior to monaco?

no you'd shortern it. high speed directon change tracks you'd lengthen it (probably) and lower speed technical you shortern it

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock26/04/2010 at 15:21

Yet for years weren't Ferrari making longer cars than anyone else? Only slightly mind.

I should imagine that he works better with a stable car then

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock26/04/2010 at 15:21

I should imagine that he works better with a stable car then

or they're trying anything and everything to make him faster

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:22

Less oversteer? Does a longer wheelbase promote understeer? I would've thought that Schumi would be avoiding precisely that.

Not necessarily. Longer wheelbase just makes the car more stable generally. But changing the weight balance can make the car understeer or oversteer.

  • Pat W26/04/2010 at 15:22

I should imagine that he works better with a stable car then

So he wants a stable car that bites, and what he has now is an unstable car that understeers.

  • Pat W26/04/2010 at 15:22

So he wants a stable car that bites, and what he has now is an unstable car that understeers.

Or maybe they now have a stable car that understeers, i don't know

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock26/04/2010 at 15:23

So he wants a stable car that bites, and what he has now is an unstable car that understeers.

Which is the worst possible situation

  • Journeyer26/04/2010 at 15:23

Not necessarily. Longer wheelbase just makes the car more stable generally. But changing the weight balance can make the car understeer or oversteer.

So in theory, this should be helping both Michael and Nico, right?

  • me26/04/2010 at 15:23

So he wants a stable car that bites, and what he has now is an unstable car that understeers.

it can't be that unstable. it's been on the podium twice.

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:24

If the front wheels are further away from the centre of gravity then the moment [mass x length] due to the engine et all is altered

Also, the centre of lift [or downforce in this case] will change

I always get this wrong but the centre of pressure always has to be just in front (or behind) of the centre of gravity or the car gets unstable. So they can't move the centre of gravity without moving the centre of pressure

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock26/04/2010 at 15:24

it can't be that unstable. it's been on the podium twice.

it depends on a drivers set up and how they drive. the michael of old could take nicos car with nicos setup and wipe the floor with him, not anymore

  • Pat W26/04/2010 at 15:24

So in theory, this should be helping both Michael and Nico, right?

Do we know what Nico prefers?

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:26

something to do with the way the mercedes is using its front tyres. they have it wrong. presumably it'll help nico too

Depends on his handling preference. One interesting point Brundle made in commentary in CHina that no-one picked up on was that Schumacher was suffering from exactly the same tyre wear problems Lewis was. Lewis has been slaughtered for the way he wears tyres because he is too rough on the car but it turns out Schumacher does exactly the same

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:26

would you lengthen a car prior to monaco?

If you can't get it to turn into a corner the way you want yes.

  • Bassano26/04/2010 at 15:27

Lewis has been slaughtered for the way he wears tyres because he is too rough on the car but it turns out Schumacher does exactly the same

Which is fine if you're fast and you can last the distance

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:27

Yet for years weren't Ferrari making longer cars than anyone else? Only slightly mind.

I should imagine that he works better with a stable car then

Schumacher likes the car to be really pointy

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock26/04/2010 at 15:27

This is what Ferrari used to do though, they'd bank on the high speed tracks being their good weekends whilst trying to salvage points from the slower technical ones

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:28

So he wants a stable car that bites, and what he has now is an unstable car that understeers.

He wants the front to be stable

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:28

So in theory, this should be helping both Michael and Nico, right?

No reason to believe both cars will be the same spec

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:28

it depends on a drivers set up and how they drive. the michael of old could take nicos car with nicos setup and wipe the floor with him, not anymore

    True

  • Bassano26/04/2010 at 15:29

No reason to believe both cars will be the same spec

How different can the two cars be, legally, I wonder?

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:30

Do we know what Nico prefers?

I guess more understeer than Nico. You have to believe this year's car was designed to suit Jenson so slight understeer seems to work for him. Interesting that McLaren again have a car that works for two very diferent drivers just like 2007

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock26/04/2010 at 15:30

How different can the two cars be, legally, I wonder?

They can be completely different as long as they are inside the rules.

  • me26/04/2010 at 15:30

Lewis has been slaughtered for the way he wears tyres because he is too rough on the car but it turns out Schumacher does exactly the same

that makes a lot of sense.

in 2005, schumi destroyed bridgestone's designed to last the whole race. back then we blamed the tyre company, but they were basically only suppling ferrari.

  • Journeyer26/04/2010 at 15:31

just that the McLaren has more inherent pace than the Mercedes, so Lewis is better able to cope with the problem...

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:31

Which is fine if you're fast and you can last the distance

It is just an issue because we have a standard tyre. Schumacher had effectively custom made tyres throughout his career which is another advantage he no longer has so no-one ever noticed how hard he was on his tyres

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:32

How different can the two cars be, legally, I wonder?

They can have totally different suspension and aero setups

in Schumacher's defense, he did not have custom-made tyres in his title years of 1994, 1995 (Goodyear sole supplier), 2000, and 2001 (Bridgestone suppling Ferrari and McLaren).

  • Steven Roy26/04/2010 at 15:33

just that the McLaren has more inherent pace than the Mercedes, so Lewis is better able to cope with the problem...

But both drivers are finishing races in similar positions where Schumacher couldn't even make the top 8 in China. The Merc seems to be less tweakable

Even when Bridgestone wre supplying two teams they were running different tyres

  • Journeyer26/04/2010 at 15:36

Even when Bridgestone wre supplying two teams they were running different tyres

But surely those tyre types weren't fully customized because of differing input? This may apply in 2001, when the tyre war began, but I don't see why they'd do it in 2000.

Hello again. Quick question for Mr C. I now find when I go to the homepage that I have to refresh to see any articles posted since I was last there. It's been like it for approx three weeks on the PC and I've had to do the same on my phone today. Is it me (using Google Chrome, could be my settings) or has something been changed?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaYRi2PGZRc

  • Alex Andronov26/04/2010 at 17:54

    Warning... Long comment coming up...

I have been thinking about the people from the other week who really were upset that other people were thinking about not watching F1 any more. It's been in the back of my mind. Anyway.... This week I was listening to an old technology podcast because... well it's a long story but I was. It's from Episode 8 of the Stackoverflow podcast and I heard this thing and you don't need to know about the technology Joel Spolsky and Jeff Atwood are talking about to understand what's being said (mainly by Joel):

Spolsky: So there is a principal in sociology called cognitive dissonance. And here is how this works, the idea is lets say for example you are an enthusiast Squeak programmer and you have just written a web server in Squeak - which is the current version of Smalltalk, the open source version of Smalltalk, very nice actually - anyway I think they have a framework, is it Seaside, is that the name of their framework?

Atwood: Ah that sounds right, I don't know.

Spolsky: It just doesn't matter. Anyway so you're at work and you've just built a whole webserver and you have somehow convinced your boss to build this whole webserver in Squeak. And you know it's crashing all over the place, it's not production quality, and it's just a big disaster, and they can't hire Squeak programmers. And everybody is yelling at you all the time and people are calling you an idiot. So now there is two possibilities. You have, there is sorta, what you have now is a psychological conflict. Between you did something, and it seems to be the wrong thing. So you can resolve this conflict between what everybody is telling you and what you actually did in one of two ways. You can either admit to yourself that you were wrong, and say Squeak just isn't that good. Or you can make up this story to tell yourself that Squeak must be so excellent that is must really be worth all the pain that you endure in order to use it. And the second one doesn't involve thinking that you were wrong so it involves less cognitive dissonance. In other words there is less, your less upset by the theory that Squeak must be really great and that is why you endure all this pain, then you were stupid for enduring all this pain. So that is the principal of cognitive dissonance, and that is if anything makes you that much, much more attached to the platform because you have to in order to justify yourself why your suffering all this pain. And indeed that is principal that is used by fraternities and hazing. So they haze people and the people theoretically think to themselves, "Why am I undergoing this ridiculous torture in order to belong to the fraternity?" And the two possibilities are:

    A) I am stupid, which is a painful thing to acknowledge; and

    B) This fraternity is really worth joining. It's really going to be awesome once I'm a member. And so it must be worth going through all this hazing.

And the second one does not require you to think that you're stupid, and therefore most people choose that one.

Anyway... It made me think of some people and F1 :)

  • lou26/04/2010 at 18:01

Anyway... It made me think of some people and F1 :)

I've never thought of it as cognitive dissonance before... that's going to help me remember that study for my psychology exam now :D hehe

  • MarileneRiddle26/04/2010 at 18:02

Anyway... It made me think of some people and F1 :)

I am not quoting the long comment, although I refer more to it then the statement I actually quoted.

Firstly, psychology FTW! I just love the subject.

Secondly, cognitive dissonance exists almost everywhere, especially with people who like to comment on something they are not actually a part of. Like couch potatoes who rant on television shows, or fans of celebrities. Thus it is natural for F1 to have its own share of people who refuse to see the sport as it is, and prefer to defend aspect of it just to make themselves feel better.

At the end of the day, opinions are subjective. For others to react so harshly to opinions is really just a case of 'me thinks thou doth protesteth too much'.

  • me26/04/2010 at 18:12

You can either admit to yourself that you were wrong, and say X just isn't that good. Or you can make up this story to tell yourself that X must be so excellent that is must really be worth all the pain that you endure in order to use it.

    ^^ that's the key, really.

and i think you're right, people have managed to convince themselves that watching incredibly tedious racing somehow makes oneself an uber motorsport fan.

    you should blog this.

Whilst not looking to disagree with this line of argument about cognitive dissonance et cetera, this stream of comments is starting to come across as that anyone who still enjoys F1 is a self-deceiving idiot.

Since I have been following Formula One, I have seen refuelling come and go, and come and go again. I am not saying people are wrong to hate the refuelling ban and what F1 has become but I still enjoy watching and am keen to see how this season pans out under these new rules, and I do not think I am self-delusional. I do think improvements are needed to the racing but I am still enjoying it none the less.

  • Alex Andronov26/04/2010 at 18:32

No he's still in Dubai. When he's on holiday work takes up so much of my time that I can't really blog and so on. Odd little projects but no blog type time.

Yes, and that's how bloggers are born. :)

There's a group of people saying F1 being boring from time to time is just how F1 is and how it has always been. While I agree with that fully and made that argument myself, it doesn't necessarily make it right, it doesn't address the point that the world has changed and people now expect things to be a little more entertaining and immediate. All forms of racing face this problem and only some are doing something about it, perhaps they are the ones that will survive, it seems that way so far.

If it relates back to the conversation previously, I don't think it's aimed at people who legitimately still enjoy F1, but at those who would suggest we can't call ourselves "proper" fans for giving up when we don't.

  • Alex Andronov26/04/2010 at 18:39

ah no sorry Sebastian - this was just something that I found that reminded me of F1. I totally get that you may well be enjoying F1 this year - more power to you if you are. What this was in reaction to was some people who came on and seemed to suggest that it was bad to give up if you weren't enjoying it and watchig for years and years even if you don't enjoy it is good or worth it in some other way.

If you are enjoying it then that's great :)

So it's official now - I got what you might call a promotion the other day - as they have moved me more towards the engineering team than the administration team and placed me under the engineering boss (who I have more daily contact with anyway)...

    Well done Mr Gavin :)

Cheers ;) It made me happy anyway - it's like they have just changed some stuff around and it makes more sense to do so...

  • me26/04/2010 at 20:37

Who thought a three week gap was a good idea?

i think they do it, to ensure every gets out of china ok. bizarrely it worked perfectly this year.

I guess the worst part about China is the Visas and the red tape. Sounded like one of the biggest problems leaving was getting your passport back?

The 3 week break was ok for me!

Saturday was football day so 1900 Bournemouth fans headed up to Burton for our promotion party. (We had to win)

In the post match celebrations, I did my usual 'act like you belong and no-one will question you' routine and basically got in amongst the players armed with my SLR!

Broke the golden rule though and Amy had my camera bag, (Always keep it with you - prepared to get a kicking from Lou now!!) with speedlight and 18-55 lens in it, so my 200mm was a bit tight to get lots of great photos, as most people we too close. Great day though.

Linky if you want a look

Oooooooooooh, awesome photos adie. Seems like a promotion party across the country this past weekend, my mum and stepdad went dressed literally head to toe in orange/amber (skin included) to celebrate Newport County's promotion at wherever the hell they played this weekend :)

Though, well done to Bournemouth mate, looks like a mad celebration ;)

Aye they did but I wish my mum told me they were going to the game when they played them in Dover as I could have tagged along and gone to see Lou whilst they went too see the football, win win!

Or you could pop up here for a Gatesheed away game...

Yeah I'm not a big fan of decisions for adults. Can I just go back to school?

  • Alianora La Canta26/04/2010 at 21:31

I am absolutely furious at the moment. The Student Loans Company, despite still owing me £700 for the last three years, had the temerity to try to claim £188 off me despite my being below the threshold for repayments and them having been told so by me and my MP following a previous occasion when they attempted to claim money to which they were not entitled (my financial situation has got worse since then). And my parents then decided it would be a good idea to tell me that this was legal despite the Student Loans Company having breached their contractual obligations in asking for the money...

  • lou26/04/2010 at 21:33

Yeah I'm not a big fan of decisions for adults. Can I just go back to school?

as i'm still at school (well for the next 4 weeks anyway) i would advice against going back... it's like many things, lovely when looking back on it, not so nice when experiencing it. :(

I just mean life was simple and I don't need to make decisions when I have no idea what the right thing to do it. Money makes everything so complicated....

  • Alianora La Canta26/04/2010 at 21:40

    SLC seem to do a consistently lousy job {Comment #391}

True. Ask the rather large number of students who had trouble getting money out of them in the first place this academic year. It would be nice if my parents would work this out and not be scared by the letter they sent illegally happening to be in a colour scheme other than monochrome. Then I might actually be able to get their assistance in sorting the mess out because all they seem to want to do at the moment is scream at me for the SLC's mistakes :(

  • lou26/04/2010 at 21:41

That's cracking. What settings did you use if you don't mind me asking?

I can't get rid of the 'noise' even at such a low ISO. Tried adjusting the F stop and shutter speed to no avail :(

  • lou26/04/2010 at 21:58

That's cracking. What settings did you use if you don't mind me asking?

i kinda cheated.. i used my digi camera (nikon P90) with it's awesome stabilisation and zoom lens. I just had it on autofocus (waaay too fiddly to try and adjust the iso too much).

All the info on the pic is here though

that is always a problem :( i have the same issue when i try and shoot the moon with my digi slr :(

Cheers...it's the 441mm that's the key methinks - 200mm isn't tight enough to allow enough light to the sensor / get close enough to allow the detail in!

Good fun playing though - thanks for sharing :)

  • Andy Taylor26/04/2010 at 22:01

You should remember that it's sunny on the moon, so follow the normal rules - sunny f16 :)

To get more detail you need a longer lens, I'm assuming that these are crops - I know even with my 300mm the moon isn't that big in the frame.

actually, will you enjoy the job more than your current one?

They have offices in Dubai.... They won't guarantee I'd even be considered for a job there though. All they would say is that they'd guarantee I wouldn't be considered if I wasn't already working for them....

Does that mean going back to uni is cancelled? If you want a job in Dubai apply for jobs in Dubai. If someone offers you a job with jam tomorrow you are unlikely to get the jam because you have already started with them. This lot are not promising jam any time. They are only saying that if you don't work for them they won't give you jam.

That's not really what they said. I've been unfair. I've worked with them before and liked it. If I didn't have to move (again!) I'd take it no problem. The moving thing is just annoying though....

It's enough money though. It's not a badly paid job. It's less money and responsiblity but it's enough. Uni is not off. But I have 18 months between then and now.....

With my lot, a bag of jelly tots every other Friday and a Curly Whirly or the first Tuesday of every month.

We'll make you re-apply for your job in 6 months, but take away your Jelly Tots after month 3.

    When can you start?

I thought you were going back to uni this summer. I assume yu have Nick looking for a job for you with someone in Dubai. I would think you would be a lot better off financially if you got an offer to go there rather than being transferred by a company that you are working for here. Generally being transferred just doesn't pay as well.

Sorry, I must have worded my previous comment wrong. I can see what you're talking about - I just can't see how that box constitutes promoting a sponsor. It's not like anyone would expect him to be promoting anything in such casual gear...

Retail jobs over there pay peanuts.... It's not really practical for him to find something. His friends are too sexist, or he is....
