Another week passes without any new F1 action to look forward to. To make things worse, life has settled back into normalcy after the volcano stopped erupting and air travel resumed. This is going to be a looong week, so I have got a couple more bullet points than usual to keep you guys going while reality drags on.

  • If you have not seen the ridiculousness that is Stefan GP, please do. There are some people who have large aspirations and there are those who are plain stupid.
  • Everyone on SPC knows how awesome Alex is with his Giggles Radio. But now he intends to blow us all away by allowing us to blow Lukeh's mind.
  • Christine's rankings are back and Karun still leads the standings. It amuses me that even here Schumi is behind Nico.
  • Kimi's Turkey Rally video is made of awesome. If only we can get the same amount of behind the scenes action for F1.
  • Actually, we did. This and this have made me like Fernando Alonso all over again. How I miss his days with Renault!
  • Back to the present, Fernando has had his thumbs insured. I think Sebastian's finger should be next.
  • Jessica Michibata has joined Twitter (even though it is predominantly in Japanese). She even replied to Lou. Me thinks that if there is a ranking for WAGs, she would top it.
  • Anyone with enough cash to spend, or is a resident of Monaco, can join in the fun with Joe and Johnny. And if you do go, I think Mr & Mrs C will be expecting a guest post.
  • Williams are offering the public tours around its Conference Centre to see its collection of F1 cars. Unfortunately, little kiddies 12 years old and below cannot enter.
  • F1 may return to USA if they can find enough cash to satisfy Bernie.
  • Mika Hakkinen refuses to face facts as he ponders making a comeback of his own.
  • I have updated my blog with my take on why Ferrari needs some coolness to balance its red hot atmosphere. I am warning you that there may be blatant biased-ness towards certain people #supportsjeantodt.
  • Outside of motorsports, Californian Governor Arnie wins my tweet of the day.

Finally, I think we should have a song rewriting contest for 'Who can produce the best F1 inspired song lyrics'. This can be Christine's latest single after the runaway hit that is 'Felipe Baby'. Mambo No. 5 and F1 WAGs is a good starting point. #sorryfortheextremelylongpost

Anyone else say Arnies tweets in an arnie voice?

Curt Cavin's original report can be found here: http://www.indystar.com/article/20100423/SPORTS01/4230324/1052/SPORTS01/Can-the-right-numbers-be-found-for-F-1-s-return-to-Indy

    He's normally absolutely spot on.

Anyone else say Arnies tweets in an arnie voice?

You just have to do that.

I love that guy, he's like Boris but better

We need the two of them to get together to discuss something serious. Or a Boris and Arnie debate. Bet that woud be a debate that would get an audience.

I just hope Boris doesn't get voted out before the Olympics. Bosris acting the statesman is going to be hysterical

have made another minor update to the homepage, again the infobox at the top of the page. the tab buttons at the bottom are a little more fancy:

plus clicking them will transition nicely between information, instead of jumping abruptly.

    Hi guys...

Another great daily from Marilene... and I checked out her blog and agreed with everything she said which happens almost never....

    Great stuff...

As to the song writing I recall we've done it before... or am I thinking of another website?....

All I'll say is, it's not an easy decision, Alison. But it's a matter of priorities, and more importantly, what will make you happy in the long run. :)

That is true. The UK will still be there if she wants to come back.

I have moved country twice, for very different reasons. It's not easy and it helps if you have some sort of support. It's definitely easier if you have a job to go to as they can help you out too.

But to see another country and experience a different culture is so worthwhile - I must say I loved doing it and also that most of my colleagues are from many different places...

  • Amy27/04/2010 at 07:27

Heck, any opportunity like that is worth a try, she can always come back to the UK later..

one issue is they haven't said she will definitely get a job in Dubai, just that if she doesn't work for them in the UK her chance of getting a job with them over there is 0%

I did one years ago called...

"Move over Michael".... based on the verrry ancient "Move over Darling"...

Well I did the lyrics... I didn't actually sing it... as I don't sound like Doris Day or Christine...

Never mind, it's all sorted. VISA > Mastercard, because Mastercard doesn't seem to like me paying online for stuff and it's easier with VISA.

So, Spa tickets bought AND paid for - gonna get them sent to work ;)

  • Journeyer27/04/2010 at 08:39

Really? That's odd. Historically, when doing online transactions, I've had an easier time with MasterCard rather than Visa.

But hey, as long as it's sorted. :D

    Whats the law with finding stuff and keeping it? {Comment #29}

I believe the law in the UK is that you are supposed to turn it in to the police or a lost property office (the latter should inform the police if the owner does not come to the office to claim the item). It is for the police to then figure out who owns the item. In the event that the item is unclaimed within 3 months (unlikely with a prototype item unless it's strayed a long way from home and it doesn't look very distinctive), it's yours (unless it's something like counterfeit money - such things tend to be destroyed immediately). Lost property offices tend to report items to the police if unclaimed, so if you turn an item in there, is the office rather than yourself that gets the item back - one may want to check their procedures before making a fool of oneself in that case.

With small and common items (particularly things that commonly travel a long way this is a frequent occurrence because reuniting lost items is not especially high on the average police station's agenda. There are, after all, no occurrences of lost property committing violent crimes while they have secure in the lost property vaults.

Note that it is not necessary for the lost property office/police to have any particular relation to where you find the item provided you turn it in promptly. If you happen to find an item in the local pub, it's equally acceptable to hand it in to the railway lost property office next door or the police station half a mile away - or even, theoretically, the police station in your home town if it was unreasonable for you to turn it in while still in the place you discovered the item.

Not following this procedure could leave you open to pursuit in the civil courts for handling stolen goods and/or theft, even if you had no idea the item was itself stolen. The fact that you know the item is not yours is enough to prove you acted illegally.

Is this to do with that prototype iPhone?

I know Lost is a favourite of the C's, so here is a post i found on AOL to explain the show. Personally i think its the greatest show ever made.

"I've got my money on Lost being an interpretation of Faust. God and the devil are wagering on the corruption of the people who come to the island."

Its not my post, but its the one i agree with the most, and believe to be correct.

I think Lost will end like Patrick Duffy's comeback in Dallas... One of the main characters will wake up and find himself back on the plane in the original pilot and realise it was all just a dream ;)

They are way to clever for it all to be a dream. Its the biggest cop out in writing, and they wouldnt insult we fans by being so blase about it. its must more spiritual and in depth than people realise. its based on a lot of mythology and famous literiture

They are way to clever for it all to be a dream. Its the biggest cop out in writing, and they wouldnt insult we fans by being so blase about it. its must more spiritual and in depth than people realise. its based on a lot of mythology and famous literiture

Are you sure they aren't just making it up as they go along?

  • me27/04/2010 at 10:43

Ahh, but it did happen as Ep 13 will shed more on. not sure if youve had it yet.

Of course they are. But they also said they had an end goal in mind. So probably somewhere between the two.

Kinda like driving towards your destination and not necessarily following the path the GPS tells you to?

    That's my bet, yea.

  • KerbRider27/04/2010 at 10:46

I promise. The head of ABC )(at the time) dreamt it all up. presented to JJ who helped develpe with Carlton Cuse. The basic concept and ending has been set in stone since day 1. They admitted themselves that they just had to piece it together bit by bit based upon the popularity and how long it could be strung before they lost (pardon the pun) their audience. The latter has proven to have amongst the casual fans. A bit like f1 in that way

  • me27/04/2010 at 10:46

    no way!

You will switch between driving a single-seater car, to being the co-driver in a Megane Trophy piloted by one of the teams reserve F1 drivers, before getting behind the wheel of an F1 car for yourself for 2 laps of the challenging Hungaroring circuit.

I can watch them legally on http://au.tv.yahoo.com/plus7/lost/ I just keep forgetting to get around to it.

  • RubberGoat27/04/2010 at 11:15

This why they invented torrents, and eztv.it. You never need to fall behind again.

It also meant the thrifty TV companies in countries like NZ had no excuse to wait 6 months to show a programme as they know everyone will have watched it by then...

  • Pat W27/04/2010 at 11:15

This why they invented torrents, and eztv.it. You never need to fall behind again.

You still need to find time to watch it!

I fell 6 eps behind on FlashForward, I recently had a catch up using Five's website so I'm only one behind now and that was only aired Monday.

  • RubberGoat27/04/2010 at 11:16

Not following this procedure could leave you open to pursuit in the civil courts for handling stolen goods and/or theft, even if you had no idea the item was itself stolen. The fact that you know the item is not yours is enough to prove you acted illegally.

Is this to do with that prototype iPhone?

It was in response to the question in comment #29:

Whats the law with finding stuff and keeping it?

Despite all the chaos that the whole volcano affair has undoubtedly caused people, I can't help feeling that it actually turned out pretty well for me. Yes I spent way more than I intended, but putting a price on the things I've seen and done over the past few days is pointless, money comes and goes, but the memories I'll have from my time here won't.

Yay for feel good volcano stories!

We have the obligatiry weekly AUTOSPORT article of Ross Brawn referring to Michael Schumacher. That and Jarno Trulli have a bit of a moan.

    Apart from that, nope, nothing.

as far as I understand that isn't the difference. Both bloggers and journos are classed as journos as far as protecting sources are concerned. However being a journalist does not mean you are free to commit crimes. Receiving stolen property is still a crime and that's why they took his computers to investigate that crime.

  • Lukeh27/04/2010 at 17:37

Ahh, fair enough. As I say I didn't get the whole jist of the story

  • Lukeh27/04/2010 at 17:38

Surely the blogger in question would know the consequences of revealing the leak and manner of acquiring the phone though?

Alex: Is the book with the missing... available on the Kindle store?

  • Alex Andronov27/04/2010 at 17:50

Even the police aren't sure at this point. I understand the case is 'on hold'

Right... There may be a process problem... However I think they are okay to investigate... Now for the purpose of explanation I'm going to change the story but I'm not really equating these two things I mean the guy only stole a phone however...

Imagine there was a guy who was a journalist on the serious crimes desk and he's not getting much in the way of stories at the moment... He's not getting the scoops. So he decides to murder a few people. But how will he hide the fact that he's the actual murderer considering he always seems to turn up at the time and get the scoop. He'll say that he has this amazing source who only ever contacts him and that he can't reveal his source. Now if this was true and he really did have a source they wouldn't be able to make him reveal who it was. But if they thought he was the murderer then they could take his stuff.

Now as I say these two things are completely different it's only a phone but according to the law these two things are the same really.

Gawker Media who own Gizmodo previously put up a bounty to see Apple products which is even worse than receiving stolen goods. I think the police believe that the editor of Gizmodo encouraged a guy to go and steal somebody's phone. Or put somebody in a position where they thought Gizmodo would pay them if they did. And being a journalist doesn't make you above the law.

  • Alex Andronov27/04/2010 at 17:52

Alex: Is the book with the missing... available on the Kindle store?

No sorry. I need to work out how to get that done... Maybe that's a project for the next week... There is a company that will handle it for me which I might well need because you can't independently publish to the iBook Store.

  • Bassano27/04/2010 at 17:52

I thought it was a 'handling of stolen goods' issue

No stealing went on however, it was lost and not handed in

California Law is a bit technical on the 'stolen goods' term

  • me27/04/2010 at 17:53

you still can't independently publish music to the itunes store can you? i would assume you'll never be able to.

  • Alex Andronov27/04/2010 at 17:54

    Yet

Well you can't to iTunes either. It's basically one of the many ways that Apple makes the "publishers" feel happier.

Well you can't to iTunes either. It's basically one of the many ways that Apple makes the "publishers" feel happier.

What about the Kindle App way

  • Alex Andronov27/04/2010 at 17:57

What about the Kindle App way

There are companies who handle the publishing for you, for a fee, and get you in the iBook store. I don't need to do that directly for Kindle but for Kindle at the moment I need a US bank account and all sorts of things. So... The idea is get one of these publishers who will publish you to multiple destinations at the same time. They handle getting you in all the stores etc iBook, Kindle... er... whoever... and then I sit back and watch the money come flowing in... or whatever ;)

  • Bassano27/04/2010 at 17:58

i really hate it when they do this, a blanket ban on something. grrr

i can see where they are coming from.. i think, but yes it is annoying. I'm gonna have to put it all on hold for a bit though, have realised i can't balance Alevels and something i actually enjoy.

you should come back in 5 years and tell us if they were worth the aggravation.

i can already see that they aren't, specially as none of them are the subject i actually enjoy.

  • Pat W27/04/2010 at 18:30

I was dipping in and out, just thought it was oddly quiet this afternoon

given the weather in the uk, it should be a crime to be indoors commenting :)

Yeah. I'm thinking perhaps between coming home after work and sorting some food, maybe instead of hanging around the house I should probably go to the coffee shop or the pub and read a book outside or something.

  • Bassano27/04/2010 at 18:30

i can already see that they aren't, specially as none of them are the subject i actually enjoy.

Uni entrance is the gain though, right?

  • Pat W27/04/2010 at 18:31

    Alonso's thumb insurance

    yesterday's news.

    i say "news".

There was the development from Joe though. Most sites are saying "Alonso had his thumbs insured" and Joe is saying "Santander did it for a PR stunt"

  • lou27/04/2010 at 18:32

Uni entrance is the gain though, right?

possibily... last interview next week.. it's not really done on grades for art based subjects though.. more your compatibility with the course, they can adjust the entry requirements per person... but if they like your work they generally don't mind too much... so next wednesday is like my last hope for this year...

  • Bassano27/04/2010 at 18:33

... so next wednesday is like my last hope for this year...

The others not worked out so far?

    Where's next week's?

    Hi Journeyer

  • lou27/04/2010 at 18:36

The others not worked out so far?

    Where's next week's?

i have an offer for a 2 year foundation at uni of kent... but i'm really not keen on it. Falmouth didn't think the course would suit me (apparently they don't think i need to go or something..) and i hated my other choice so much i don't think i performed well in the interview at all. Wednesday is Farnham. I can cope with a gap year if i have to take one, but i'd rather not.

  • Janna27/04/2010 at 18:37

I'm just not interested in the iPhone at all. The iPod Touch is the best gadget I have ever owned but I don't want a phone in it.

To me the iPod Touch would be really annoying because I use it outside all the time... My guess is that in the future I will think iPad at home iPhone outside. But that's me... If you're driving to work rather than taking the train then I'm hoping you aren't surfing the web while you're driving ;)

  • Alex Andronov27/04/2010 at 18:58

    Really, why?

I really like Boxcar which gives you pop ups for twitter mentions [for one]

The notifications is silly because say for example I want to get notifications for chat... Well what if you get 20 of them and you're trying to do something else... oh wait you can't do something else because multitasking doesn't really work... But when it does... they need a way of stacking the comments.

Apple needs some competition and it keeps both platforms on their toes

I borrowed a Nexus 1 a few weekends ago (from our wireless group, used for testing, so I couldn't give it a full evaluation because I couldn't associate it with my google account) and it's an awesome phone. Screen's great, etc. Incredible has the same screen, better camera (8 Megapixel) and the Sense UI is supposedly a lot better than the default android UI.

IRL are going to award trophies to champions on oval and road tracks as well as the normal overall champion. Maybe F1 should do something similar. Champion on proper race tracks and on mickey mouse Tilkedromes. IRL are asking fans to name the two new trophies. Any ideas for them or the F1 equivalent?

I've had a bit of a mixed time with it. Some games happily use it with no issues, others (rFactor come to mind) are allergic to it I'm swear. When it works I absolutely adore using it though, such a great controller.

I use mine using a wireless receiver for my wireless 360 controller, but I'd imagine the 360 controller for the PC controller will work exactly the same

The plastic holding the right thumbstick sheared off. It's hardly been used!

(I still have PS1 controllers that work OK after all the punishment...)

I had a very nice Logitech one awhile back for my PC that seemed pretty sturdy.

    given the weather in the uk, it should be a crime to be indoors commenting :) {Comment #194}

Apparently being indoors on the computer is a crime - 5 minutes after Mr C posted that, I got to document presentation class to find the college network malfunctioning. So nobody could retrieve a document unless it had been saved to their own directory, which meant everyone else in my class went home just over half-way through the lesson.

  • Alianora La Canta27/04/2010 at 21:15

    annnyywaaayyy... is there any amazing news to cheer me up? *searches* {Comment #203}

Apparently the FIA want to do more stuff to encourage women to enter motor sport. That's news to cheer people up :)

  • Pat W27/04/2010 at 21:24

    Where do these evenings go?

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock27/04/2010 at 21:25

    Nice little headping there then...

yup. Just came back from a local Prospective MP's, it was very good but quite hilarious, the UKIP guy looked like he wouldnt last the evening and also got his own policy wrong.

How are we all today? what have we been up to?

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock27/04/2010 at 21:26

yup. Just came back from a local Prospective MP's debate, it was very good but quite hilarious, the UKIP guy looked like he wouldnt last the evening and also got his own policy wrong.

    Hello

I have decided to take new job. I must be mad.

    hey alison!

as long as it makes you happy that's what counts right? :)

  • Pat W27/04/2010 at 21:40

I have decided to take new job. I must be mad.

Well done for deciding, hope it works out :)

  • Alison27/04/2010 at 21:50

as long as it makes you happy that's what counts right? :)

Yeah well even if it doesn't lead to anything else. I like that job better anyways. Who needs money anyways....

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock27/04/2010 at 21:51

Is this a completely new job? or another one?

  • lou27/04/2010 at 21:52

Yeah well even if it doesn't lead to anything else. I like that job better anyways. Who needs money anyways....

if you prefer the job then that's great. Having a job you don't at least partly enjoy must be horrible.

  • Alison27/04/2010 at 21:54

Is this a completely new job? or another one?

A partial return to a job I've done before. The problem is there's no vacancy at a level I'd really be looking for. I'm high up the list to get one should one arise though so....

ah ok, same place or differnt?

  • Alison27/04/2010 at 21:56

ah ok, same place or differnt?

Different. I need to move house. It's cool though, I'm in with my parents atm so I can save up so I pretty much needed to move either way.... :P

Yeah living with my parents is pretty much unbearable....

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock27/04/2010 at 22:01

Yeah living with my parents is pretty much unbearable....

yeah definitely, i spent today with my rents and was going mad by the end!

  • Steven Roy27/04/2010 at 22:04

I have decided to take new job. I must be mad.

In that case I will tell you something I didn't say last night because it could have helped you make a wrong decision. I only ever moved once for less money and it was by far the best move I ever made. Inside two years I was making three times as much.

  • Pat W27/04/2010 at 22:08

Yeah living with my parents is pretty much unbearable....

    absolutely

  • Alison27/04/2010 at 22:10

yeah definitely, i spent today with my rents and was going mad by the end!

I shouldn't moan though. I've managed to clear a lot of debts I could never have managed to without the savings.

  • me27/04/2010 at 22:43

i wanted an factbyte factbox placeholder image to sit on the homepage in place of the "currently offline" message. went a bit crazy with the experimentation and the result looked silly in situ.

i don't really have anywhere to put it, but didn't want to lose it either, so erm, here it is: http://twitpic.com/1iyhbv

now to make a more fitting version.
