Hey everyone! Lou here, and today it’s my turn to welcome you to a brand new daily. Sunday has arrived, it's Felipe Massa's birthday, and with no F1 race this weekend we can all put our feet up and make the most of this glorious day before we are forced to return to the hustle and bustle of the working week. We won’t talk about Monday though; I’ll leave that to R.G for tomorrow’s daily. For now, we’ll look at what today has in store:
- Firstly it’s London Marathon day! Yes, that’s right today is the day hundreds of people flock to the streets of London to support the brave souls that have decided to run the 26 mile course. The Marathon is always great to watch, and this year there are even a few racing drivers taking part including Britain’s very own World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx. Good Luck to anyone involved!
- Once the fun of the marathon is over what else can we do to fill our Sunday? Listen to Giggles Radio of course! This afternoon Alex will be guiding us through a couple of hours worth of songs starting with the letter ‘M’ and if it’s anything like last week’s show it shouldn’t be missed!
- If you’re looking for interesting blog posts to read our commenters have been very busy this weekend. R.G has written a great post about his favourite team, Lukeh has a brilliant review of yesterday’s Dr Who episode, and our very own celebrity has come up with some ideas for a new iPod App.
- I couldn’t mention Christine and her amazing blog without pointing you all in the direction of the return of her awesome ten step story ‘Life in the Fast Lane’. There’s now a summary page for anyone who may have missed or forgotten what happened in the first series.
That’s just about it from me I think, have a lovely Sunday everyone, and I’ll join you in the comments.
Yay!!
(hearts) lou!
Woo, nice one lou :) Cheers for the pluggage.
i'll do a daily for a Sunday on a regular basis if you want Christine, it's fun :)
Would it be madness to take a second job?
spc has made me learn something about myself i've kinda just realised... if you put me on the spot, i'm much more likely to do something... e.g. walking behind Joe while he was speaking (eeek!) and writing a daily post.
Therefore i conclude that spc is good for you. :)
Oooh, yes, okay!! :)
ahhhh... this is more like it!!
:)
If the question is "would it be madness for me to take a second job?"
the answer is yes
you're volunteering for guest posting too?
If you can do it without it affecting your health and it helps you to go back and study it's not madness
that has to be a subtitle :)
I like money though :( I have none.
Has Autosport died?
all good here
You work harder than anyone I know, i guess it depends what job, the hours, how much it would take out of you and whether giving up what free time you have is worth it.
ah there ya go, its back again.
stupid internet
No
:)
I'm already on the most depressing savings regime imaginable. I have no money to spend in my free time, I might as well be at work...
i found it kinda fun looking for links and thinking of what to say, will be good for my writing skills too :)
if you need motivation just yell.
i'm not baking a cupcake for a daily tho.
Thanks Lou, I hope you have a nice Sunday too.
hello lou's daily! :-)
will do :) hehe i owe you two an awful lot, least i can do is write a daily once a week :D
aw :( what about a biscuit? ;) hehe
i was thinking an actual cake, and then just cut it into slices, thats less effort each time!
you can bake biscuits?
yes?... or is it not called baking when referring to biscuits?
*shrugs*
i though they came in a pcaket
Yeah it is....
biscuits are really easy to make....
The chocolate hobnob I just had was in a packet
Just remember who you're talking to :)
ahhh... erm.. well he'd enjoy rolling them out and cutting them into shapes! everyone loves that! :D
You can't give him anything sharp to cut with. He nearly killed himself with baking powder
just a biscuit cutter... surely he couldn't hurt himself with that...
Oh cripes. Nick has bought a bed.... Do we think it involves inappropriate shelving?
Have you seen what else he's bought?
#sorrynick
biscuits have special cutters?
Dont start this again. I ended up having "spider moments" all day yesterday
It's fine, I already promised to nest my ducks in it.....
they can do :) or you can cut them with a knife. I prefer using cutters though as you can have lots of biscuits the same size/ shape :)
did you see Amy's local market is selling ducklings for $8?
cookie cutters.
http://dir.coolclips.com/Food/Baked_Goods/Baking_Supplies/Dough_Cutters/cookie_cutters_CoolClips_wb027834.jpg
you're going to let him put ducks on something that has a platform that can be moved very fast to an angle?
Imagine this but with a real duck, with the chair as the rubber band and the children as Nick.
do you see where im coming from?
I think you should make Anzac biscuits because in this part of the world it's Anzac Day today.
It can't flip things, just knock them on the floor if they're on the foot bit.... Plus the boy knows what's good for him.
but the back goes from leaning to straight up at the flick of the leaver right?
*waves at Amy* Hi Amy, you've been quiet today/ yesterday, did you have a nice saturday? did you set up the sidepodbusiness?)
And we're back at HE WOULDN'T DARE
the what?
I have been parent sitting, so I only get a few minutes online before we head out for the day. But today nothing is open before 1pm so I am having a morning at home. I cannot manage the sidepodbusiness I'm afraid as I don't actually have anywhere to put the ducks.
hmmm, not convinced he wouldnt try it atleast once.
I hate to stereotype but I think a lot of guys would only do one thing given a lazyboy and a lightweight animal with wings.
Test whether ducks can fly or not!
Amy was going to buy the $8 ducklings and look after them until they were ducks (when she says they aren't cute anymore) and then sell them for something more than $8.. :)
Oooh oooh oooh pick me pick me!!!
oh wow. excellent.
duck a la franchise
mmmmmmm duck a la franchise..... :-)
Does it come with rice?
amy?
so... Amy needs to just bring the ducks to Europe.. Alison can look after them then sell them for a profit.. sorted! :)
noooooo
I had duck on wednesday, it came with an onion and some spinachy gew.
Wasn't the best meal ive ever had
I'm not sure I'd get through customs with them, sadly
Because freight costs would never eat into any profit, ever :D
Not abruptly
"Excuse me, is that a duck in your pocket?"
I think you should all go to the NZ War Memorial at 5am :D
I've had the ones you can buy, very nice.
For anyone not aware of Anzac Day: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_Day
im sure we can fix that :D
Hold on, can't ducks fly?
nonsense! it will be fine :)
#livesinsidepodworld
I think distressed sliding might be involved, no actual flying. If they get upset, they'll probably poo on his chair though and I'm sure he'd rather that was avoided....
I think telling Ducks to go to Alisons house and expecting them to fly/swim around the world to Alisons house and all get there may not be the cleverest idea....
heheheh nope :)
Sleepy time for me, enjoy your ducks (medium rare for me ta)
adios
Nick is getting ducklings and a Lazy Boy? Is he turning into Joey?
:)
night Jon
:D
Heheh.
NIGHTMARE
dont say that! he'll loose them inside the fussball table!
There is a dawn service in Hyde Park, but I'd have to leave right now to get there for 5... and I don't think the
pigsHer Majesty's Police would like the amount of wine I've consumedNight
:) :)
Night Jon
:D
I guess that would make Alison CHandler
apparently it's earlier than usual this year because of the marathon, it's normally at 6 or 7am. Silly marathon.
The marathon rocks.
Hah :)
nooooo the marathon is awesome! *go
JB's friendAndy Priaulx!*I do enjoy watching a good marathon.
night jon
oddly, we first saw priaux driving a mcalren at goodwood when jb was still in a honda.
I saw him at Goodwood when he drove an old Williams. In fact I saw him in the awning and ought to have said something to him...
woah! that's cool! i think the first time i saw him was while we were freezing to death at the ROC in 2008.. I think ROC is how JB and him got to know each other...
he was in the williams? ahh, who had the mcalren then?
:) i love goodwood :D Lukeh doesn't know it yet but i have set myself the aim of getting good photographs of as many drivers/famous people that i recognise as possible... and maybe talking to a few.... even if that means i end up doing a mr c and running after a golf cart with Steve Ryder in ;)
I don't know if we've been there at the same time? I'm trying to remember what year it was. '03 perhaps
i'll have to go through the pics. i can't remember now :(
Priaulx was a Williams test driver
google tells me drove a BMW Sauber in 2006...
^he drove
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/523743328/
The west wing just crashed my computer!!
That's what I'm doing now :)
I'm thinking '02 because there were a lot of Williams cars there then
okay, time for me to sleep. Night all!! xx
*flash just crashed you computer
From playing a DVD?
night lou!

Help guys...
I have just been advised to get a HTC Desire rather than an iphone...
You guys know all about this stuff... any thoughts?...
I know that wrc does an app for iphones and that may swing it... but I'd like your views...
Morning
Morning. Gosh cell reception is pretty poor around here!
heh, welcome to the countryside :)
I am biased, so I will tell you to buy what's right for what you want to do and that others here can help answer what that is.
The advantage we have at Apple is that we make the hardware and the operating system which gives better reliability and consistency. We also aim to make life easier.
If you can, wait for the next generation hardware. If not, buy an iPhone now -the next operating system we release will add even more features.
Hi Jeremy...
I recall that you said the new hardware wasn't due out for a bit....
ooh Alex my dad finished your book this morning, he liked it but he didn't know which one his favourite story was.
ooooppppsss, tis usually okay for me...
#kentissorry
have you had a nice time then?
Morning all!
Hey
I can't beleive I woke up before 12 today :) I almost feel proud of myself :)
Me too, thought I'd have a hangover, not too bad... was up for 9ish (okay 9.05) for the marathon start
i got up around 9 too, I'm really sad it's cloudy today though :( I miss the sun and blue skies!!!
I usually do on a Sunday to be fair, 4 weeks time and I can be as late as I want to be.
Morning folks
morning rg :)
It was okay here earlier, just within the last half hour it has come over all cloudy, even a bit of mist on the hills.
morning
We don't know exactly when unfortunately. Usually June/July.
I moved up from the iPhone 3G to the 3GS a few months ago and the extra speed is awesome. I read today about a hacker who put Android on his iPhone hardware and is able to choose at startup which operating system he wants to use - but that is definitely for the geeks :-)
I believe that for most people, the Apple ecosystem (with iTunes as the centre-point) is the best answer. Isn't it great that you have choice though? :)
Sorry Pat, I made a scheduling error!
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/04/25/keep-on-running/
you know what BTCC needs?... live timing, so i can keep an eye of what's going on while watching the marathon.
http://www.tsl-timing.com/toca/LiveTimingTOCA.html
morning all
awesome! thank you!!!
its on their website forfuture ref;
under results, then live timing, then click on th link
omg i have just spent 5 mins searching the site! it never occurred to me to look at the results section...
#loufail
I don't think that's #loufail at all. It's a pretty stupid place to put it.....
Aww, I'm gonna miss that :(
Anyways, off for football, catch you hopefully in time for Giggles Radio.
where else would you put it?
Ah! I did wonder :)
i'd have it near the race countdown section... but then again that could be f1.com's fault for making me think that.
have a good time! see ya!
hehe hi Alison :)
i've also stuffed up the flickr integration. double sorry pat.
its totally f1.com's fault!, atleast you dont have to sign up for this one
when mrs c said we couldn't break the site more you have... i thought she was joking...
I looked at their website and there is nowhere sensible to put it. Either they need to sort out their sections or just put it by itself so you can see it's there!
true, all this signing in on the f1.com site is annoying.
Why doesn't it give you a link when you click RACING NOW!!!!
The sections make sense but i think without changing the website it makes sense to put it there. the live timing isnt really that useful to be honest
that's what i was thinking! :)
It gives you all hte information on the circuit/track etc,
they could put a link in there, but theres not a great deal of point to the live timing
so the key question is does he still think I'm a nutter?
Think?....
it's been really really lovely :)
yay!! :) however if you can take the clouds and rain away with you when you go back to London i'd appreciate it :)
Oh don't worry about that, I've never used pics from Flickr before so I was lost anyway
:)
Hello all.
Lady Snowcat: I have an HTC Hero running Android & I love it. There are not as many apps as the iPhone but I can get all of the ones I need. (I did check the market and can't find one for WRC :(). As with the iPhone, people are developing apps all the time.
I really like the way things are set out on the phone and will upgrade to the Desire later this year. It really comes down to personal preference, I like having my iPod Touch & my phone separate as I have fewer battery issues that way. Hope this helps.
Mr C, loving the new look to the homepage with the extra info tucked away behind the More dropdown. Tried it on my phone & it works beautifully, fits onto the screen really well. It would appear that you don't break everything ;)
Happy birthday Felipe!
Interesting fact... on the 25th April 2004 Jenson started his first race from pole... :)
The sun has come out and i can see some blue of the sky! yay!
Hullo all. Yay for Lou's daily :)

The front page (or at least a link on the front page), like F1 and LMS do?

Swimming guinea pigs.
Awww, they're cute! Also ZooBorns is an awesome name for a website.
they have a cool name too.. capybara :D
And the little ones can be Capybabies!
Excitement at the DTM...
Finished Paffett, Spengler, Green, Di Resta....
But then Paffett stopped on the cool down lap and may have been low/run out of fuel...
If he ran out he will be disqualified... if he stopped with a tiny amount left then he's OK...
We will see...
Norbs says that Audi have done this in the past and it's OK.....
We now have the national anthem being.... SUNG.... not just played....
I believe he said something along the lines of you have an odd mind but its genius-odd not insane-odd.
So a genius nutter not a nutter nutter....
that's the way it should be.
Ah I missed that, was it a good version? Someone on Twitter liked it
Not my cup of Earl Grey....
Just thinking how funny it would be if it happened in F1... having to learn sooo many anthems... in case of a rain shower....
This is just what I thought they were saying...
I found this hilarious...

Afternoon.
I am feeling much better today, which is good because I've been hauling stuff to the landfill. The flat is such a mess right now that we can't even cook or sit at the dinner table.
However to show you that we have our priorities right, we may not be able to eat in our home but we can watch TV, play Wii or use the internet ;)
Oh and it's ANZAC Day today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_day
I have just learned I have to pay my first ever student loan payment this month :( Bad times :(
Ah that's good :)
:)
I only just remembered about the Giggles Radio post! oops! Done now though - phew.
Last week it was the beer you nearly forgot to bring, this week the post, next week it'll be yourself :P
:)
is Kat joining in again?
Unfortunately not today, she's a little tired from the awesomeness of Kent!
aw no! say hi from us :) kent is awesome though ;)
Afternoon all

Aha, I'm not golfing today, I can listen in!
right after I just take some recycling away because it is piled up and annoying me, it has to go..
Give me a ping Wassili
One ping only?
It's like being at the reception of Fawlty Towers
hehehehe!
who's fawlty?
I thought we were doing Red October
*googles*
*shrugs*
Oh Dear.
It's like Star Wars except in a submarine rather than a bobsleigh and the bad guy turns out to be a good guy and hands his death star over to the good guys after Yoda figures out that the bad guy is a good guy and how to communicate with him without using force
that makes perfect sense...
:)
christine! is this on your filmwatch?
The Hunt for Red October must have been on TV twice a year every year for the past decade
I knew you would understand
I'm glad you said it :)
i really don't know if you're being serious or not..
someone should have told me star wars was set in a bobsleigh.. i would have seen it by now..
It certainly should be. It's one of the few books which have been made into a film where both are equally good imho.
I thought I explained that part before
I love that film
One of John McTiernan's better offerings since Die Hard
Afternoon folks
not it actually being set in a bobsleigh :)
Have never heard of it! Will add.
*waves*
:D Hahaha! That's right, though. ;)
Hello all.
Tom Clancy ROCKS. :D
The universe is a giant bobsleigh. Ask Emily. She is inot theoretical physics
It is really excellent... I actually think you'd really like it if you like Michael Criton type things
It is a great film and should be on Christine's list
OMG
Perhaps I should not mention I only really know of Tom Clancy from the game adaptations/endorsements rather than reading any of his books...
into not inot althought with quantum theory both are the same and part of the giant bobsleigh
I've read most, if not all, of his major books. :) And Rainbow Six the game is EPIC. :D
allo
I really want to get Splinter cell but I have exams and I kinda want to get a get a good grade. :/
I like the books but The Hunt for Red October is the only decent film they have made. Even with Sean Bean, Patriot Games is appalling.
Clear and Present Danger (1994) &
Patriot Games (1992)?
done, quick walk is good, bit spotty with rain..
:D hehehe okay
I wasn't sure if it was that or Crimson Tide :)
Books are always better.
Did you see the Ben Affleck one they made a few years back - Sum of All Fears?
At least. Great film.
I liked it. As well as the Harrison Ford ones, of course.
Is that the one with thingy Brosnan in it? And some weird stuff about the Chinese embassy?
It'll still be there after your exams. :)
Sean Connery & Alec Baldwin
Nope. Soviet nuclear sub with Shir Sean Coronary
Hmmm. That's a totally different universe - James Bond. ;)
The Hunt for Red October has a young-and-not-yet-comedic Alec Baldwin.
Oh so I have the wrong film.... Hmmmm
:D
When you've watched it, if you like it, also watch The Sum of All Fears
that's red corner or something similar
Ah you got there first :)
Oh yeah I see and it has Richard Gere in it not James Bond. At least it exists :D
ah no that was with Richard gere. goes away again
Come back again.

:D
You should've seen their polls after Thursday's debate. Completely different to the others
I like the idea that aliens that could take over our planet will have either ignored the millions of others on their way here or have chewed up and spat out every resource on the way and still not learned that won't work.
different questions? or results?
Whichever favoured the Blues
*asked Sun readers
They think Blair will be PM. Rupert runs their version of one man one vote
They think Chelsea will win the league?
Results. Percentages. It put one of the parties on a more even keel to the other two, compared to C4/ITN and BBC which had that party some way behind.. Purely coincidentally, the party concerned is backed by Murdoch this year.
They've come out in favour of Cameron haven't they?
Yeah they switched to the blue team..
I assume so. Cameron is just Blair lite

If the aliens evolved from anything like humans, the biggest danger is we won't understand what we want or even communicate that we mean them no harm. After all, we have enough trouble with those things between members of our own species...
NASA keep bringing out great photos to celebrate Hubble's 20th birthday. I love the first one on this page.

And if we go in with that attitude, they'll just kill everyone and pat themselves on the back for it. If they're evolved enough to traverse that much space, they're evolved enough to develop weapons at which we can only drool or despair...
Love Mr C's comment on Adam Cooper's blog post about Stefan GP entering for 2011.

i....erm... can honestly say i've never been asked that question. Chances of it happening again are slim though, i'll take the risk.. and worst come to worst try and go back with 5live. They looked like they had fun ;)

We are off to watch a film now. Later people.
Enjoy
have fun!
I am off to watch my eyelids. Good night!

If you are competitive don't read this.
Only connect tournament walls have been put up. I tried the first five before and failed miserably. The next 5 are now up. You only get one shot at each wall though so be careful.

Hi & bye Gavin
Have fun
Night
See ya, will look out for a Film Watch soon then :)
night
Argh you've made me play more of those blasted walls.....
I am so annoyed. I knew what three of the groups connections were but somehow avoided finding any groups....
I am about to start number 9 and haven't completed one yet
There is one on that wall I just don't believe
okay, so i didn't get many pics cause it was pretty dark tonight.
However on my walk back i decided to try out the zoom and built in stabiliser on my digi camera.
I'm kinda impressed such a small thing has such a nice zoom.
PING: http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/4552234514/
Very nice
10 walls 10 miserable failures
Either you have very steady hands or that stabilser is worth whatever you paid for it
i have reasonably steady hands, but i'm gonna say the camera was well worth the money. I didn't think i'd get a shot like that without at least a tripod.

I find I'm getting to the answers and still thinking "Where did that come from?!?" This explains why I still have a score of zero.
You shouldn't need steady hands to take photos of the Moon. Remember the exposure is "sunny" because it's sunny there. :)
It is a nice capture. Compare with these taken using a 70-300mm lens and a tripod.

Andy,
Are you aware your kid's names are on some of those photos? I know you and lpg try not to make them public
wow! a decent tripod is on my list of things to purchase when i have enough money. I really want to do a good series of long exposure shots.
Thanks for the heads up, I'd forgotten completely. It's not a problem.
I am sure Christine or Mr C will remove the link if you like
Read Thom Hogan on the subject, basically don't buy a rubbish tripod, get a proper one because you'll save money. My tripod is pretty old and heavy and it has a very cheap head on it, but it does the job OK.

Looks like the first Sidepodwestcountry mini-meetup is on, i.e. Neil and I, for July 25th at the Wiscombe Park Hillclimb. Anyone welcome to join. It is the same day as the German GP though.

Hey everyone,
What goes on? {Comment #356}
Trying to think what to write for a blog entry.
I'm supposed to be finishing an entry off this evening, but I'm struggling due to a lack of effort
Greetings from the land of Foggy Soggy Tundra.....
I have a good question for Bassano and anyone else if they are interested. I am in the unfortuneate situtation of having to choose between 5 movies to watch and I currently have only the mean to watch one of them. (Flying and Diving Seasons are coming up quickly) and I am a poor guide to figure out which of these five to watch (Hey I nave narrow it down to five after all)
My choices are:
Where Eagles Dare
Paths of Glory
Fantastic Voyage
High Plains Drifter
or Letters from Iwo Jima
Any comments or suggestions....?
Why is Australia so expensive to get to?
#blameamy?
Whenever I search for fares now they seem to be all £1200+ which seems excessive. People had offers on that were under £600 a couple of months ago.
I have only seen Where Eagles Dare and that was a very long time ago. Uness Fantastic Voyage is the one where people get shrunk in a submarine and injected into someone then I have seen that too but also al ong time ago.
Not much help really

There's some water in the way?
Yesterday you were thinking about a second job and now you are going to Australia. Did you have 6 little numbers turn up last night?
I think the answer is something to do with how far away it is
Oh it's okay, BA is only £650 they're obviously in a lot of trouble.... I'm not sure why expedia is only showing excessive fares from them....
Did it occur to you that the two things might be related?? :P
Letters from Iwo Jima is very good but long and can be tough going, perhaps.
but.... but.... if you get a second job.. you'd come to spa... right?... ;)
Nope. Nick is 5000 miles away and you are planning on moving to somewhere that is further away from him. I am sure that will convince him the bookshelf is a bad idea
is this something to do with them selling ducklings for $8?
Noooooo I mean maybe I need another job to fund travellage. I want to go to Aus with Nick in the summer but I can't really afford it. On further investigation, BA are wanting £650 each way :(
Might have something to do with that it is almost the furthest point you can get to on the Earth from London, England.....
Yes, that's Fantastic Voyage, Steven.
You should speak to Amy. She has all the information in the world on travelling between Australia and Europe
Maybe I could steal her plane ticket.... I mean she's going to win the lottery, it'll hardly affect her :)
Seems fair
I think it'll be cheaper to wait. A cool price compary website shows fares of £600 available this month steadily rising up to £1500 in the summer..... I'll have to wait at any rate. £1500 is an obscene amount of money!
okay, bed time for me, school in the morning! night all!!!! xx
Night Lou
G'night
I've only just arrived, am planning the list of things to do tomorrow. Apparantly it's been a bit busy at work this weekend.....
Night!
Night Lou :)
I know I haven't been here all that much today, but just scheduled the daily, so I hope that worked *fingers crossed*
Ciao.
So what's been happening today then? I feel like I missed out on something....
Radio Giggles is the only real thing I can remember from today? Apart from that, nothing has transpired.
Oh for Pete's sake, I even missed Giggles Radio.
Somebody hit me with a wet fish.
Woohoo I got the West Wing working :D No crashing today....
you mean we don't have to come find you?
cheers rg
