Hello, hello. I have returned to man the controls and the daily post duty returns to me. Thank you to everyone for our first week of fabulous guest daily posts. I think it's safe to say the experiment was a success. A greater variety of links, ideas and content, some of them even relating to F1. Good times. If anyone else wants to get involved, there's always room for more volunteers. Now, on to some things I want to share:

  • Talking of how good the daily posts were, Giggles was really impressed with Lukeh's epic post yesterday and not only printed it out - he also bound it! Mr C thinks this might be the best video he's seen all year.
  • We discovered yesterday that the Race of Champions will be held at Germany this year, which can only be an improvement on last year's Beijing event. We live commented the event in 2009 and weren't that impressed with all that we saw. RG also had some thoughts at the time on how it could be better. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they're listening!
  • As Lukeh mentioned yesterday, I have started the second series of Life in the Fast Lane - where you, the reader, get to decide at the end of each chapter what happens next. We're on to Part Two now, and voting will stay open until I remember to close it at some point this evening. If you need a quick recap, I've got a dedicated page that should help you out.

That's all for today. Let us know what you're up to over the weekend, and as usual, I will see you in the comments.

There's nothing wrong with lying on a sofa. It's just I like to recline lengthways not silly back and forward tipping chairs.

think of it as a bigger chair.

  • startledbunny23/04/2010 at 23:55

i want the sofa on that ad, where you pull the lever, and the other person is ejected forcefully.

  • lou23/04/2010 at 23:55

think of it as a bigger chair.

it doesn't make sense to me. reclining chair is comfy... but one section of the sofa reclining seems silly. I stopped my parents getting a sofa like that when i was younger... i pointed them in the direction of a lovely awesome slightly cheaper leather sofa :D

what if there's something you really want, and nick objects? you're not thinking of the bigger picture here.

what if there's something you really want, and nick objects? you're not thinking of the bigger picture here.

Like? I already asked for a juicer and he says I can't have one even though he agreed previously.

  • Alison24/04/2010 at 00:16

Whats a lazyboy? (dare I ask)

A big reclining armchair thing. Like they had on friends. Something for your bachelor pad.....

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock24/04/2010 at 00:16

Lazyboys are the big chair things arent they?

Not only should he get one, he should get this; http://www.zwtm.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/ultimate-renegade-gaming-chair.jpg and then plug it into his Playstation/Xbox

  • paul24/04/2010 at 00:17

Whats a lazyboy? (dare I ask)

Someone who won't do his chores although why someone would want one is beyond me

  • startledbunny24/04/2010 at 00:17

Whats a lazyboy? (dare I ask)

imagine a reclining chair mixed with a one arm bandit fruit machine.

  • Alison24/04/2010 at 00:17

Not only should he get one, he should get this; http://www.zwt...gade-gaming-chair.jpg and then plug it into his Playstation/Xbox

If they were doing a new Star Trek series that should be the captain's chair

  • Alison24/04/2010 at 00:22

and neck problems in later life also

Why? This sounds like a wholly usable argument beyond "I just hate it"

  • Steven Roy24/04/2010 at 00:22

and neck problems in later life also

He could get those by falling off a motor bike or being slower than Nico Rosberg though

  • Alison24/04/2010 at 00:23

He could get those by falling off a motor bike or being slower than Nico Rosberg though

    Or from annoying his girlfriend?

Imagine lying that far back but having to watch a TV that is at normal height. THe neck is bent so far forward that the chin is on the chest. A lot of F1 drivers have problems because their seating position is similar. They have trouble breathing during races as a result

  • Steven Roy24/04/2010 at 00:25

    Or from annoying his girlfriend?

Being slower than his girlfriend would be a pain in the neck

  • Alison24/04/2010 at 00:29

So he is trying to kill me? I have breathing issues as it is.... He already suggested a bed with bookshelves right over your head. The idea of that terrifies me!!

So if you sit up you smash your head? That doesn't seem like a good idea. I have cupboards that are at head height (standing) and I keep worrying about them. The idea of loose items sitting on a shelf and possibly being shaken off the shelf could be dangerous.

Do you think he has you insured? ;)

  • Alison24/04/2010 at 00:32

  • Alison24/04/2010 at 00:39

That's what I thought. Surely there are better places for a bookcase

You'd never put a standalone bookcase against the wall behind your bed, why would it be any better built in..... He said this one was cheaper, but I'd say missing out the reclining chair would let you buy a non-lethal bed. :P

  • Jon 'National B' Waldock24/04/2010 at 00:39

couldn't they do some serious damage? :(

  • startledbunny24/04/2010 at 00:53

i had a spider run up my leg years ago. due to the speed of it's path towards my torso, i panicked and thrashed about. never saw it after that. had it been considerably slower, i wouldn't have acted like an extra from breakdance the movie

  • lou24/04/2010 at 00:55

no were on the train I'm afraid. We will be going on a walk after lunch but a 15 minute drive sounds like a couple of hours walk. So sounds a bit unlikely.

    Better luck next time!

    So he is trying to kill me? I have breathing issues as it is.... He already suggested a bed with bookshelves right over your head. The idea of that terrifies me!! {Comment #80}

Bookshelves should be over the feet if they're going to be part of the bed furnishings (I have a bookshelf at the end of my bed and the arrangement works well, especially if the bed is long enough)...

  • The Speedgeek24/04/2010 at 15:37

Hey, all, hit and run post from me today. Just saw something a couple nights ago that I thought you'd all appreciate.

Having a baby in the house now, we spend a lot of time with the TV on the kids cartoon channel. A show I'd never seen before was on in the background the other night, called Rubbadubbers. The characters were all lining up for a foot race, and talking to each other, I wasn't paying any attention. Suddenly, I noticed the bassline of the music playing in the background. Dum...da da dah da da da da da dummmmmm..... Over and over again. It was THE CHAIN! I had to stand and watch for about a minute just to make sure, and there was no mistaking it. Holy crap, what a subtle joke.

Anyway, I thought you might get as much of a kick out of that as I did. Happy Saturday, everybody. Enjoy!

  • Alianora La Canta24/04/2010 at 15:43

    Why woud anyone put anything above their head in bed? Crazy people. Hopefully no-one has a dart board above their bed {Comment #98}

I have an entire bunk over my head. Which is fine except when I've only had 5 hours of sleep due to spending half the night writing a long and somewhat complicated forum post (in which case the Spidepodcast wiki's Sporting Injuries section lists the consequences (look for my comment in 2009)).

    Evening,

Spent the day dismantling a wardrobe, moving it and some cupboards to my Grandmas and shifting two couches. Then after that I spent a good couple of hours bringing down all my stuff from the loft ... basically all junk that we were too lazy to throw out. It took too long because the stairs are so dangerous that I couldn't carry that much down them...

Add to that I have a bad case of the flu so I was super knackered after all that, so I then slept for three hours!

(I'm doing all this in preparation for our moving house at the end of the week)

  • Lukeh24/04/2010 at 17:44

I like how the Doctor orders hugs for others

  • lou24/04/2010 at 17:44

I hope the BBC keep the series on iPlayer at least until the last episode. I feel a Dr Who marathon coming on!

I've heard that Mr C powers up the nation's electrical grid all by himself

I heard his Mac was so powerful that it powers the national grid, and thats why he can't use capitals, because in exchange for endless electricity they took his shift key.

Steve Jobs saw this and now no macs have shift keys.

Jon, presumably your "National B" status means you gained a racing license recently?

Swimming in open water is completely different to in a pool, she's clearly done the open water bit, but diving into the thames will give her a shock she's never had before!

she's not doing the olympic distance and i'm sure she'll have done enough training by then to cope okay.

Sitting in. Catching up on the last issue of GP+, watching F3 thereafter and updating the blog later on. Got a big new post coming up

trying to find something to do.. i'm kinda bored this evening..

I sorta expected it. We got more points than expected out of the last three games than I expected. Plus Man city drew, so still happy-ish.

Needless to say I ain't watching MoTD, but am watching Russell Howard

  • Pat W24/04/2010 at 21:24

I'm not completely sure. I was going to watch a film but after Dr Who and HIGNFY I need a break from tellystuff for a bit.

  • Turkey Machine24/04/2010 at 21:25

So what's everyone up to this evening?

Yawning. Pondering a good early bed time. But with Sidepodcasters, that could be a while as yet.

I never like beating Spurs, I do like them admittedly. But 6 points out of a possible 9 considering the 3 teams you faced is an awesome achievement.

Well, yes and no, it is dangerous but in British motorsport the chances of gaining a serious injury or even a minor one are rare.

Ah, yes, I should look at that.

A slight criticism of James Allen's site - is asking a predominantly readership on his site whether or not McLaren will win the Championship a bit like shooting a fish in a barrel?? The majority have quite obviously said "yes"...

Something Moss wrote in his article earlier was absolutely spot on though - Michael never seems that bothered when he's being interviewed.

...and it's true. The sternness you used to see in interviews - whether pre or post race - is completely gone, only to be replaced with a strange slightly interested shrug and squeezed facial expression.

I'm really quite tempted to go to Silverstone now Peugeot and Audi have commited to it. Trouble is, same day as the Italian GP and very near to the big spend at Spa...

They have always been a law unto themselves but if they want to have a proper world championship again now that Max can't screw it up they have to be a bit more sensible

Yes. A story book. I was enjoying it so much I took it to work and now I don't have it now because I forgot to bring it home :(

I don't think ebooks are practical for me right now. I don't like reading block text on a screen very much. I would do a kindle or something but it's a tad expensive for me atm.

Nick bought it for me to keep me occupied while he went to talk to the bank lady but I kinda like it. I made him buy me the next one. It is an odd book though. It's about dragons.
