We have survived Thursday!! High fives all round people! *high fives* Good morning, good afternoon and good night wherever you may be in the world reading this on the last day before the weekend! Lukeh here guiding you through this much loved day, and what a week it’s been eh? Volcanos, ash clouds, bad jokes, allsorts. Oh, and there was plenty of action waiting hear how F1 got back from China – just look at this blog post from Jake Humphrey. Of course the planes once again remembered what it’s like to fly through the sky without a silly volcano making it silly for them! As you can imagine, it was quite silly. Nevertheless, let’s see what wild, wonderful and downright wacky events there are to talk about...
- Today is the birthday of Sigur Ros singer Jonsi! I’ve spent the last few weeks raving about his new solo album Go, which is already up there for my album of 2010 and I seriously recommend it to all reading because it’s quite simply enchantingly beautiful. The brilliant coincidence here is the last daily I wrote for Sidepodcast saw the birthday of Chris Wolstenholme celebrated, and I feel that Jonsi deserves as much celebration due to his awesomeness! Happy Birthday Jonsi! Remember to check out his new album Go, it’s really quite excellent. Go! Literally! I’m watching you. I feel like I owe him an album too but my musical talent is limited to awful drunken karaokes. Of course, I say talent...
- Plugging time! Earlier this week I compared Formula 1 to the world of a soap opera television program and it’s still making me chuckle in my mind how similar the two types of entertainment go. Can you imagine Kimi Raikkonen in Albert Square? He would have the time of his life in the Queen Vic! Christine has brought back the wonderful Life in the Fast Lane this week as well and it’s always an absolute privilege to read these stories and having the choice to affect it’s course. It reminds me of the Goosebumps Choose your Fate books I used to read as a terrifying toddler! Finally, Stuart Codling has written up a fantastic piece actually praising Schumacher, which I’d agree with in relation to his defensive moves at Shanghai which were definitely the Michael of old rather than the Ralf-esque performances so far.
- Mr C posted a wonderful blog post yesterday looking at a quite frightening amount of information that can be taken from McLaren’s Live Data Viewer system as discovered by the guys behind OUseful.Info Blog. Not only are they some of the prettiest graphs I have ever seen (take that, Microsoft Excel!) but they do blow my mind in quite a considerable way. Mr C’s post is definitely worth a read as is visiting the blog being referenced, before phoning your local doctor and arranging an appointment to deal with a serious amount of mind being blown from how genius these graphs are. Graphs are awesome. Just ask Gavin and his excellent blog Making up the Numbers. Which also blow my mind. In general, I am learning blogging can be a dangerous activity for one’s mind.
- Remember to go see the Sidepodcast response to the downshift of output coming from Mr C and Christine. It’s always worth remembering that the first couple of F1 here do this voluntarily for our entertainment and for their own choice to do so, and if F1 is driving them crazier than a trip to a Michael Schumacher Theme Park, then I for one more than appreciate them downshifting whatever way they can to make sure they’re happy. Luckily, Sidepodcast is here and the smiles are returning. Even though Christine and Mr C are saying thank you to us, I say to them... THANK YOU TOO!
Well, that’s all I have to share this week. Yesterday I got back my dissertation all bounded and ready to hand in after 6 months of work, so it’s fair to say I’m very happy about that! Also, if you have some time please do take a look at the many beautiful photos on my fantastic partner’s flickr profile, just because Lou’s ability to take the most amazing photos matches her ability to be an amazing person and going through her albums always continues to blow my mind! Again with the mind blowing! Nevertheless, I hope you guys enjoy the weekend, Christine will be back bringing you the daily tomorrow and Sunday and I shall see you in the comments. Not literally, because I can’t see in the comments, but just look at them and see your name. So I will see your name in comments and you will see my name. I’m not sure that needed an explanation. Urm...yes! See you next Friday, folks!
oh my. WOW.
i vote five stars for this post! shall buy the go album, because it's that good a post.
awesome daily :)
Oh blimey. That's a high content daily! :D
I think the electrician that just came to my house was James Allen.
What an awesome daily! :D yaaaaaaayyyy for it being Jonsi's birthday! (although i feel like i should have known that). Please please please, everyone at least listen to one of Jonsi's songs! they are so amazingly beautiful :)
awww thank you for the lovely plug Lukeh <3 love you!
aw okay so that was worth staying up for.
yay!
Did he shout "ELECTRICITY, WINNNNNNNNNS" when he was finished?
well. he wasn't in china.
the evidence mounts.
his hand gestures spoke volumes?
hehe
anyway, i should sleep now, night all! xx
Night Lou
night lou
Man's gone insane I tell you. :)
So here's a date for your diary: May 29th. Eurovision. Do we dare?
w00t!
Some people have only just calmed down from last year
I'm in looooove with a fairytaaale, even thooough it huurts,
I'll be sure to get the wine in.
Who is doing the British entry this year?
I haven't a clue, so I looked it up and I'm none the wiser.
Though apparently our selection show only got 2.9 million viewers, which was 4 million fewer than last year..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest_2010
Totally passed me by
I'm confused. My sausage mcmuffin was made with pork. Salty, salty pork. When did this happen?
Never had a sausage McMuffin
Me too. In some ways I'm glad.
they used to be made with beef. 100% Australian Beef. I quite liked them. I'm not so sure now.
The real world effect is less SPC in the morning
Why would anything to do with a sausage have beef in it?
You get beef sausages
Eurgh
Why are pork sausages any better than beef?
I can tolerate pork but beef is too far.....
I really can't think of when I've ever seen a beef sausage.
we say Beef, but it is a 'sausage' supposedly. Lots of sausage meal, a little bit of meat, plenty of chemicals
I think I've had one a while back, Pork ones are better though
I've made sausages before. It was quite good fun.
I thought you were a rampant veggie
I've been veggie a very long time now but there was life before vegetarianism. When I was a kid, my local butcher let me go and make sausages then take them home and eat them. Probably because I was cute and blonde. Thats a very Cumbrian way to treat cute blonde children....
I am going to be very well behaved and not go for any obvious punchline
Glad im not the only one
You and I both! ;)
Lukeh was simply hyperactive when he wrote this. :D
:D
I was a bit worried he was going to explain seeing comments.
:D Hehehe.
Good morning.
It's snowing again :I
Love today's daily
Oops... I didn't realise it'd be quite so long...
You did almost make me late for my train!
#sorryalex
#sorrythosewhowanttofinishreadingittoday
:)
It was quite alright it put a smile on my face :)
I'm thinking of getting today's daily post bound ;)
Morning,
What's this Daily? 5 Pints of Awesomeness is what :D
Morning one and all.
Morning :)
:P hehe. Must run off now anyways, see you all later!
I think I have left my phone at home. Stoopid kitchen counter.
Grrr....
*tries to resist*
*fails*
Why do you need a kitchen counter? You can't have more than 1
There are no laws against having more than one kitchen, you know.
That's true... I suppose we could say we have two kitchens as we have that other room where the fridges are.
I failed!
:)
I bound Lukeh's daily: http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexandronov/4544768903/
Oh my god!
Maybe it's luckiest that Lukeh isn't here because you know what would be happening to his head.
Every day you reach new levels of crazy but awesome :)
It's a tough job but somebody's got to do it ;)
I wrote some stuff about that Doctor Who programme again. http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/23/silly-old-buffer/
Morning
Wow! That's brilliant :D
I can't hear it yet, if there's anything to hear.. remind me to watch when I get home :)
:D
This is why I could never have a blog, I can't come up with funny article titles.
Ah, but you see, therein lies the trick. You write the post, and then poach the title from within. In this case, those are actually Steven Moffat's words.
#sidepodspace #forsteven
The US military made a little space plane
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8601172.stm
So like podcasts then? Clever
Exactly that. Unless you already have a great title in mind, as Lukeh demonstrated - http://toata.wordpress.com/2010/04/03/72-this-doctor-goes-up-to-11/
Yes, that's the other one I was thinking of :-)
There isn't anything to hear... I'm in my office.. .I figured talking out load about what I was doing might raise questions :)
Ooh, the London Marathon this weekend. Lots of crazy people running around.
By the way Pat, I saw you noted the date of the Eurovision. That can only mean you are going to write us a guest post for the live commenting thread, right? :)
I suppose they will be. We have one of those at work, but he won't be in London
A crazy person running around?
OK Lukeh, you started this.
I am "evaluating" Jonsi. You better be right ;-)
Yes, one of them.
Is it going to be in my office then?
It may be. Do you have a water drink thingy?
There is an iPhone app if you know anyone in it... I'm not really sure how it works but you type in the number and it gives you their progress - I think.
How cool! I don't know anyone in it, though. Perhaps I could pick a random person to follow.
I know somebody who's in it.
But I can't find the app now
Is it not the flora marathon anymore? Seems to be Virgin
I used to do those sorts of silly things, but I got better
Oh dear. I hope they don't run out of fuel part way around.
:)
We have a coffee machine that has cold water in it...
And we know you always have plenty of bananas around. I think it might be!
Um.. can I volunteer RG :)
Ah yeah :)
I like the London Marathon, nice thing to just have on in the background on a Sunday. There was a time when I was familiar with the names but I think they've moved on..
Some racing drivers are in it
Paula Radcliffe! The only runner I know.
Oh and that Bolt fella that eats chicken nuggets.
Ooooh!
Her, and Heile Gebresselase who's name I can't spell, he runs the whole thing grinning :) but I think he's retired now
Andy Priaulx (World touring car)
Guy Smith (Le Mans)
Olly Gavin (ALMS & Le Mans)
not sure if there are more... I can do a guest post on that if you like...
or Sunday's daily if it's not a breakout thing
Ooh, yes yes yes!
Yay for the Oatmeal!
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/volcano_name
Am super impressed by the amount of information Webbo has squeezed into one tweet: http://twitter.com/AussieGrit/status/12690018685
wow!
I'll see what I can find out tonight :)
and he didn't swear once!
I don't think he swears on Twitter. ;)
Oh he very much does! :)
He takes the whole Aussi thing a bit too far sometimes does our Mark
Not sure if anyone's read it:
http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2010/04/22/getting-home/
Yet ANOTHER reason to love, love, love Lotus. :) Why did we ever doubt them?
oooooo. Now I understand the "darleks going all Joseph" comment
Did you read before you watched?
:)
I'm hopeless like that.
and yes, Amy is quite tall.
the is uber-cool: http://inspirationlab.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/soyouneedatypeface.jpg
You forgot to mention "then it went all star wars"
He did say that but I've never seen it so I didn't know if that was true.
i did mention that...
more filmwatch this weekend? :)
you what? never??!!
AWESOME ;)
but just think how awesome it would be seeing it for the first time ever?
It's a bit like cool runnings
:) :) :) :) :)
Erm, no. The only bit I've seen is where there is some kind of mouth thing in the sand and people fall in it.
Yeah! although I think it's kinda different as a 12 year old boy, which i was
no no no that's not it. thats one of the silly sequels
I only saw the first new one. That pretty much put me off the whole affair!!
Ah ha.
As I have said several times, the whole idea of Star Wars puts me on edge because I can't work out which order to watch them in, so I'd rather not watch any of them.
you just watch the one, unless you want to see mobile teddy bears
I like the London Marathon, nice thing to just have on in the background on a Sunday. There was a time when I was familiar with the names but I think they've moved on.. {Comment #98}
One of the people at my swimming club is doing the London Marathon - it was organised as a surprise birthday present for her (she's done quite a few marathons in the past and enjoys them).
But it is not really one, it is four. I don't like it.
not episode one.
worst present ever?!
no, as in the one from 1977
Good advice!!!
:D surprise! now, run 42km
Surely you need to have been doing proper training and stuff?
One of the people at my swimming club is doing the London Marathon - it was organised as a surprise birthday present for her (she's done quite a few marathons in the past and enjoys them).
worst present ever?! {Comment #139}
For you, it probably would be. She really likes doing marathons though, so she was pleased with the present. I guess you tailor the present to the recipient. :)
I AM SO EXCITED
It's no use asking you for a guest post though.
:D surprise! now, run 42km
Surely you need to have been doing proper training and stuff? {Comment #144}
Well, she is still "in shape" and there are a few months between her birthday and the day of the marathon...
hehehehehe
why is our wine cheaper in the UK than at the winery?
Grrrrrrr
Today is St George's Day. I completely forgot, Google reminded me with a drawing..
we buy lots of it.
Same with NZ wine - so much cheaper to buy it in Europe!
I try my best!
Ping: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/23/life-in-the-fast-lane-ii-part-2/
Yay! I LOVE this part a LOT. :D Duly commented and voted.
Yes it is rather good isn't it?
Goodo.
Very. The interaction between the three of them was quite something, I gotta say. :)
For Spain, Merc have a longer car with better weight distribution.. could see Mikey get his form back?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83112
a whole new wheelbase?? blimey.
I wonder how much that car was designed for Jenson?
quite a lot i'd say...
off to get some new tyres, back shortly :)
don't forget to check if you can tell the difference
Afternoon
get some good slicks? ;)
its ok, the option has green stripes
:)
Will that take you through to the end of the year or will you have to stop again?
They're probably the ones he's taking off ;)
hehe
more on buemi's accident: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/04/23/as-the-stragglers-struggle-home/
Excellent Daily post today from Lukeh...
Made me smile...
Can't think why??.....
And his boundless enthusiasm makes me think of Petter Solberg.....
Bless....
I actually started one, to surprise you, I have written a paragraph and a half. I cannot finish it for a week or so though as now I only get about 10 minutes computer time a day since I am parent-sitting. :D
Gosh!
I am dreading what sort of furniture Nick is out choosing in my absence.... He was describing things to me and I really hope he's just trying to wind me up!
:)
Two brand new front tyres, it's no longer understeering like a pig and the steering is nice and light again
Yaaay! Somehow I got my wheels misaligned once. It made me feel like I constantly had a puncture!
I did have a slow puncture, had to keep topping it up every 10-12 days :)
And the other side was wearing out..
He said the tracking needs doing
Oh dear. Cars are all a bit complicated for me. I can do bicycles....
Hello all, how are we? I've been to see my Sister in Northampton this week with my Mum and just got home. If anyone is anywhere near Wellingborough, go & see The Yeomen of the Guard at The Castle, it's great.
I'm totally unbiased (this may be a lie, my sister is playing Elsie ;))
I think skype is overbilling me. Very odd.....
Hi. I'm good, relaxed. I'm attempting to find out why our payment to Germany has failed again. I'm sure they are desparate for our 22 euros.
ooooh! hey janna.
Someone please help me talk Nick out of buying one of those awful lazy boy chairs :( :( :(
ooooh, like them!
Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
mmm, loverly.
This is not helpful! I can't even describe how much I hate them....
how can anyone hate a reclining chair?
Are you going to have to live with the chair?
I don't find them comfortable. My posture is too good to enjoy slouching like that. Also its very antisocial!
Blimey that's a big question :P
Only that personally, I wouldn't bother getting annoyed about a chair in another country is all. Each to their own though.
Similarly I think its a very loaded purchase!
wow. women read far to much into things.
sheesh.
I have no idea what that means, I shall butt back out again!
Not all women!
:)
But they're so horrible! I hate them. Why would you buy something I hated so much :(
man sees chair, man likes chair, man buys chair.
even nick can't put more thought into a purchase than that?
You can get sofas and each side can recline independently
can't you get fridges in the arms of the chair?
This has also been suggested. It sounds even worse!!
Because we all know the boy can be trusted with a fridge :P
Nah its great!
christine, we need one of these.
hehehe
You're not helping at all! :P
http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00peSErvZqbRgj/Leather-Recliner-Sofa-Reclining-Sofa-FS-K606-.jpg
mm, comfy
ooooh
I might cry.
that's okay, lazyboy furniture wipes clean easily. hey, look no residue!
I also can't stand leather chairs. Life is not good.
clearly you aren't compatible. you may as well end it now.
;)
If I threaten that do you think he'll still buy the chair....
Just getting ready for those sponsorship spots, eh?
Just took the car for a little run. Dual carriageways are much nicer on these tyres ;)
ummm. if i were nick, i would agree to not buy it and then buy it anyway. you'll have forgetten by the next time you're there anyhow.
That may work in reverse. I think my memory is a bit better than yours though :P
oh no
oh no no no
couches like this are AWESOME.
once he's paid for it and got it home, you're not going to make the man throw out a perfectly good chair.
he can't lose.
you've obviously never met my wife.
:)
can someone with a copy of F1 Racing, confirm that this feature is from this month's mag pls: http://www.autosport.com/features/article.php/id/2765
:D
That sounds like what my dad does whenever he wants a new tv or sound system. Except that I (thankfully) I can return it to the electronic store and ask for a refund. :P
try doing that to a chair by yourself... when you like in another country :)
*live, not like
No idea but I read that earlier and found it very interesting, learned a lot.
Yeah they're not huge on consumer rights! He's not helping his case though. He promised me a juicer and now is denying all knowledge....
When there's a will, there's a way :P.
I'm sure I could sell it to his pushy friend who appears to be talking into buying the monstrosity in the first place!
hehe, this needs a hashtag. #lazygate?
And to think, if I'd banned him from abandoning me to get on that flight, he'd be too poor to afford such awful furniture.... :P
I thought '-gate' was unmentionable? ;)
oh my lord: http://adamcooperf1.com/2010/04/23/stefan-gp-confirms-2011-entry-bid-and-plans-to-build-f1-circuit/
Stefan GP confirms 2011 entry bid – and plans to build F1 circuit!
not by me :)
EEK! Is that going to be the coolest thing ever or a total failure?
and here are the stefan posts:
http://stefangp.com/news4.htm
http://stefangp.com/news3.htm
http://stefangp.com/news2.htm
http://stefangp.com/news1.htm
they have a logo. that was enough to guarantee USF1 a grid slot.
they're a numch of mentalists :)
wow. i need a break from typing.
251 days to the start of the 2011 f1 season. get that countdown rolling lou.
ookay then
A Ferrari F599XX today broke the road car lap record of the Nordscheife, Jonny Noble found onboard video... this guy is a mentalist..
http://www.ferrari.com/English/Ferrari_TV/Pages/FerrariTVPlayer.aspx?serverId=15587&c=Video
Thanks for the lazyboy support mr c :)
;)
GRRRRRR
It doesnt have a fridge, but it does almost go flat...
And it rocks! (literally) (like a rocking chair)
hehe, stefan gp have nicked rocket red from mclaren: http://stefangp.com/team.htm
i love this team :)
Yes... it's there and is a paean of praise to Mr Kolles....
Those things are well named and truly awful... I wouldn't give it house room... but I suppose that why some guys have garden sheds!....
that's brilliant, we need more f1 racing online.
I am now being threatened with some kind of bookshelf over my head while I'm asleep. Because that could never go wrong at all....
Whatever is wrong in the world, and there is quite a lot from men liking lazyboy chairs to F1 being a pain this year, something happened today that made me very happy....
The swallows returned to my stables...
Yesterday there were none and today I have had at least five playing up in the rafters and singing to me and the horses...
How could I not smile and be happy....
how can they be allowed to do that??
don't know. quite cheeky.
I don't think the teams take them very seriously :)
DTM FP1: Coulthard already ahead of Ralf..
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83114
hopefully we'll be talking to joe this evening. if you has any questions: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Questions+for+Joe
Did you make a note of the ones people thought of the other day? I can't remember what they were.
Was it something about coming back from China and something about you guys downshifting..
erm...
Hey all
squire
Hi
Ahahahahahahahahaha. Stefan GP on Drivers:
Jacques:
Former World Champion did a seat fitting for SGP in Koln. We had our hearts set on bringing Jacques in SGP!
Nakajima:
Kazuki was set to shine for us in 2010, and we hope he will soon have
chance in F1 to really show how good is he.
Ralf Schumacher, on the other hand?
Ralf was an option for SGP.
:)
I cant seem to get the wiki to work, and im just heading out,but i would love to know if joe would conider doing an updated version of his motorsport atlas?
I'm editing it now while I think of a question, I'll add it
Aww, most of them say Ralfs line actually. I just clicked on Ralf first
cheers both
Done and added two of my own :)
Howdy all, I'm packing my bag because I fancy a week at home so thought I'd say hi whilst im doing so.
How are we all?
Could be better.
Hey folks.
ach no, bad day at the office?
Awful. I hate fridays :( stupid day is worse than thursdays for me. *lays down*
Rather rubbish day at school followed by a an average football match, in which I contributed to the scoresheet, just for the other team.
both of mine have been pretty rubbbish to be honest
Evening all.
My Friday went quite well - sorry to say!
Hi newcomers.
I've just realised I've done absolutely nothing for the last 2.5 hours except read Twitter and blog posts. Square eyes. Taking a break, back later.
I gotta shoot, see you on the other side!
See ya Jon.
http://twitpic.com/1htilf
I immediatedly feel 100 times better...
Anyone fancy breaking out the mixer?
http://www.cnet.com/8301-19709_1-20003121-10.html
is that Niles??
Amazing how he evolved from Niles into Frasier
http://baroqueinhackney.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/niles-crane.jpg
the guy on the left is already fraiser, is that his dad?
Probably, Rubens looks just like daddy rubens
Excuse whilst I once again deal with a serious case of mind = blown.
I can't belieeve you actually did that!!
ooooooooh my lord i never saw that! woah.
We have the andronov scale, now we need the Giggles Scale of Awesome.
he is sooo ace
RoC is in Germany this year:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83117
ooh, so much better.
Well that makes more sense than Beijing
Some people just have too much time (and paper) on their hands!! :P
but we love them for it.
For sure :D
I wish had that much time and paper to be as Alex as Alex
(He's so alex he's replaced the word 'awesome' in my vocabulary)
that's so alex
wouldn't andronov work better?
It's more related to him so yeah it probably would. That was very much ann andronov point to make Mr C.
Hello my fellow humans
Oooh, wow. They (almost) listened to me.
Hullo
Hey mate
Well I personally think it should be done in my garden, but they can do whatever they like :)
Definitely, should be a big crowd
Especially with the previous success of Germany
And no shortage of Sausages and beer... at the start of the event :)
Still don't like the two day format and the fact the first day is a Friday night.
Evening all
hey chap
heya.
I think AUTOSPORT has a slight error in their story about Mercedes increasing the wheelbase of their car. It should say they are doing it in the hope that their number two driver will be able to back up their number one better.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83112
last call for questions for joe: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Questions+for+Joe
I need to spend more time on the net. I keep finding things out at the last minute.
James May is guest hosting the Rock Show on 6Music now.
Hi Kimster and Steven
Pat I saw you revealed the date for Eurovision earlier in the comments, excellent news. I can't wait :D
I have chucked in a couple of Joe questions
appreciated.
It should be fun in the usual cringeworthy way :)
I've hear the UK entry could be... interesting(ly bad)
Pat's writing us the live post for it :)
Oh dear. We are going to end up live commenting it again.
I listened to it last night. It has no redeeming features whatsoever, except the Wikipedia entry says they are reworking it
Christine,
Did you see all the panda related children's stories Kathi and LPG mentioned last night?
how hard can it be write a catchy tune? couldn't we do better?
They should keep reworking it until it is Bohemian Rhapsody or something
I'm not sure I agreed to that. :)
It won't be quite as much fun for me as last year because last year I was draining a bottle of red while simultweeting Eurovision and Indy500 qualifying, but they aren't on at the same time this year..
Umm...
He's going to Eurovision as well, and likes F1 #tedious link
I think Christine did
so last year though :)
I am sure you did
RG is the expert
You think she should do a new one. Weren't there lyrics or poems or something written here a couple of weeks ago?
THen he should help you
I...probably am.
Just noticed that we now have more than 150 members on the wiki. How did that happen. We seemed to be stuck at just over a hundred for ages.
A quick search shows there are not only song lyrics http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Song+lyrics on the wiki bu sidepodsingles http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/SidepodSingles
There has to be the basis of a Eurovision song amongst that lot
excellent!
So do we have any musicians out their who can rework any of it into a suitable song? Any lurkers who are musical?
Christine and the Lurkers sounds good to me
I think that was mentioned the other week, not sure.
Bad thought, none of the songs work cos of the drop.io thingy do they?
I didn't try them. I guess we are going to have a lot of broken links in the archive
:-D
I can sing. Not that I am European. :P But why are we so interested in Eurovision anyway?
It is like the best song contest ever. You get to witness a multitude of cultures all submitting really bad music into one smorgasbord of awfulness and it's just excellent TV.
Brilliant excuse to waste a Saturday evening. Last year was good fun to live comment :)
we're not switching it off until july, but eventually that's an admin process we have to go through. it'll be £50+ per month to keep it open after that.
I'm really not sure. I haven't watched it since that time we started a really controversial war and scored no points....
Eurovision is difficut to explain. It is so bad you just can't help watching it. It originally existed to show off the Eurovision link which was a way of linking up TV signals from all over Europe before there were satellites so it should have died out decades ago. It has been running since the 1950s and in all that time its only contribution to the world was the year Abba won it. No-one outside of Sweden had ever heard of them before but after it they were huge. Most other winners could all stand together in a big group and no-one would recognise any of them apart from the few who were well known before it
Sounds like a car crash. ;)
You've got the idea.
In Britain it is seen as a bit of a lame joke.
There are parts of Europe that take it seriously... and that just makes it funnier. It shouldn't, we should be above it, but it does.
A long, slow, drawn out car crash
And there's the interval act where the host nation tries to impress everyone.
I tend to rememeber memorable acts rather than winners. Like the Harry Hill guy from Lithuania a few years ago in the We Are the Winners song, or that Ukrainian Woman dressed in tin fil, and there was an Austrian guy called Alf Poier I think a bit further back who looked really small and quiet and then dia really heavy thing half way through his song :D
Ahhh, how can we forget the likes of Gemini and those ones in that flight costume *cringes*
That was a woman?
At the end a jury from each country gives points for the top ten(?) songs. But they all vote politically for their neighbours and everyone complains that there is no point in carrying on with it but the next year it all happens again
I suppose I should watch it on mute then.
Sparkly trousers guys from Germany and that Icelandic gal?
I geniunely have no idea. I think so.
Yaaaaaaay I was right about Alf Poeir's name
Lordi springs to mind because they were just weird Finns and then there was the man/woman from Israel who are European for political reasons
Not anymore. Thats only half the points awards based on the viewers vote. The other half is from a certain person from each country who say how good each one is, a talented one. I can't think how to describe it.
How do you remember that?
You need to hear it. You just won't believe it exists or that 100 million people watch it
Some things just stick out in your mind for the oddest reasons :D
I think paying that much attention to Eurovision should be a criminal offense!
Didn't know that. Clearly I wasn't paying attention
They changed it to a televote to avoid it, and it made it worse :)
So now it is half jury half vote.
Lordi. Finns that even Amy isn't interested in. Sort of half Finnish half Klingon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mh3hj9-J76Y
to be fair, Lordi were awesome
Looks like RG may have some new drivers to support according to Joe
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/04/23/and-so-the-rumours-begin/
I disagree with Joe. We need to finish more races before we can get the car to travel more quickly.
And replacing de la Rosa. I hope its just rumour, as I don't fancy Maldonado or Flippi will be any better.
James Key, last through of the dice, I really hope it works out.
James May is playing AC/DC
I thought it was an incredibly camp man who raided Madonna's wardrobe. And made some alterations for size, obviously.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9rJLtz64Hg
I think dropping de la Rosa would be crazy is he is the only one of that group that knows what a good car feels like and the only one who knows how to sort a car. Kobayashi is nothing special as I kept telling people last season. Replacing him with a driver with a few quid or who is faster makes sense. Both Maldonado and Filippi are a good deal better than Kobayashi
It amazes me, really amazes me, that Kobayashi wasn't a pay driver.
It's a man
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verka_Serduchka
All three are fast but crash a lot. I don't think it makes much difference which is in the car.
Now I consider myself quite an erratic person at times (just look at the daily) but even I don't understand anything in that video.
yet it's just awesome, so brillaintly awesome.
It amazes me more that anyone running an F1 team can think a guy who finished 15th 2 seasons in a row is suddenly a top F1 driver based on 2 drives last season
I know. I hate that sort of music but that song and that whole production is epic.
Hang on, that charted in the UK?
One of the links from that video goes to Wild Dances, which I completely forgot about but it was one of the few times I really liked a Eurovision song because it was actually quite good. Rare occurence.
There has been nothing wrong with Kobayashi this season. Same with de la Rosa. There has been no chance for either to prove themselves. So its unfair to go saying he isn't a top F1 driver just yet.
In their second season of GP2 they finished 4th and 5th in the championship and not 15th.
Evening all. Just got back from VW meet-up.
Best picture of the sun ever
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/sdo/news/first-light.html
Hi Andy.
Got to ask. What happens at a VW meet up
We meet at a pub, have a few drinks, show one another what we've been doing to our cars, check out any new vehicles and chat.
evening
You forgot
Fend our children off other people
Agree with people that the baby is cute and has big blue eyes
Realise that its past 9pm and you now need to go home because you cannot get to the loo without going into the pub... and you have children with you....
:-)
Hiya
hello :) you've been quiet today. Everything ok?
Argh... I forgot that was on... I ended up listening to something called 'fifties hour' which I *think* was on the local bbc station (lack of advertising would suggest it was) but I'm hunting for it...
Hi Lou
Evening folks,

i've just realised with no more coursework (other than textiles) i can actually do some proper revision now, and maybe even go outside and revise in the sunshine! wohoo!
I think I'm missing something.
I went to the bank to see if I could get a loan to increase the number of eek's I have because I seem to be overeeking with all the eeking going on lately

I'll mail it to Lukeh if he'd like it as a momento.
I must away to bed but if you would like it dm me your adress Lukeh.
Will do. I will take a photo of it's epic arrival and pose along side it as it sits in the sun eating a Magnum
That I would like to see - a bound document eating a Magnum.
Clarkson on Jonathan Ross. When the volcano started smoking they sent James May to drive on it and his tyres went on fire. Then it erupted so it is all Captain Slow's fault
aside show wrapped. featuring none other than ms blachford... on an f1 podcast. who'd have thunk it?
If Joe can't convince her, nobody can.
If Christine isn't in the comments could you please pass on that I hope to send an email either tonight or tomorrow

good plan :)
i think it was more that i was opening my audio editor at the same time.
buzz out loud are having a remix contest for their theme tune, and i fancy having a go at it

how the hell did they manage this: http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/21/media-temple-raises-15-million-hungry-for-new-acquisitions/
Media Temple has raised $15 million from a group of investors. Money will be used to to enhance new technologies and for interesting projects or teams that will be additive to the company’s core mission.
built to scale? more like built to fail isn't it?
true story. i had to write a strongly worded complaint to them the other week, just to stop them changing our database passwords while we were sleeping.
Give us more money or we'll have to file for chapter 11 and you'll lose all the money that you've invested up to now?
Raising money is nothing to do with the quality of the product but more to do with the quality of the pitch. Having the right person writing a pitch and business plan can make a lemon look like a gold bar
ahh :)
applies to politics too.
Just noticed part 2 of Christine's story is up
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/23/life-in-the-fast-lane-ii-part-2/
Is anyone seeing this iron Man 2 trailer on Wossy and the F1 at Monaco?
it's been youtubed before, right. or is this an new one?
I doubt it's new, I'm just out of the loop by a considerable distance. Only seen it there for the first time :)
looked very cool though.
It did. I hope Mickey Rourke doesn't start walking down the swimming pool on race day though unless Bernie's got something up his sleeve regarding his crazy ideas
they'd be crazy not to have a tie in with someone. mercedes presumbly.
Red Bull maybe but they don't seem to do that anymore now they're a 'proper team' ;)
Ahhh the image of DC on the podium in a superman cape.
:D
can we go see it at that nice cinema again?... i may need to see the first one though... and figure out what it's about...
hoe did they EVER get away with that?
Definitely.I've not seen the first one but it does look quite good.
#notinfluencedbysherlockholmes
I believe it is about a man who irons.
uuurrrggghhh the image of Christian Horner with nothing but a superman cape jumping into a swimming pool.
awesome! a film i haven't seen that you haven't seen!
#smallvictories
oooo can we go see sherlock holmes again?
:D
Is photoshop open in another window??
That I forgot about. :(
It;s out on DC soon!
Argh, DVD. Conflicting discussions getting intertwined :)
Argh blech, blech, where is the mind bleach!!!!??
DC? what's he got to do with it? ;)
i have some here, but we call it strongbow (other mind bleaches are available)
Least it wasn't Flaargrgrh god I can't even finish that.
No. Do.Not.Finish. Or I would have to do something to someone somehow... ;-P
Now - wasn't there something about DC and photoshop? Pronto???
i feel responsible for swimming pool related mental images. it's just when I hear superman cape in association with f1, that comes to mind.
(needs.more.mindbleach,)
Stefan GP are trying to get into F1 next year. I fell off my chair laughing.
They do have the best website I've ever read. it's just constant brilliance!
Goodness that was a really tough photoshop, dunno how I ever finished it :P
oh... I thought he would be flying... oh wait, that's the 'other' DC....
Evening, just a quick one here - I can't believe Lukeh hasn't spotted this come out earlier today - it's the second F1 2010 game developer diary! :D
http://www.virtualr.net/f1-2010-second-developer-video-trailer-released/
I did see them mention it yesterday but I had no idea it was out today, excellent stuff
Monaco looks insanely good :D
Just made me want want want want WANT this game more :D
Good job I've already pre-ordered it at HMV :D

They do have the best website I've ever read. it's just constant brilliance! {Comment #472}
I dare not read it in full right now because my parents have gone to bed - I'm afraid I might wake them up...
Jeez, it looks good. so very, very good.
it's going to be difficult to find sensible drivers on PSN when this comes out.
The thing which really ticks me off is everyone slating the physics of the game saying that it's not going to be simulation. To be fair, if they weren't looking for simulation, they wouldn't have got Ant in to help them with the car handling in the first place, would they?
It's a shame the uber-hardcore sim racing community seems so negative towards it though...
I say we do a review of each version of this game when it comes out - I do the 360, you do PS3 and maybe Gavin or someone with a decent gaming PC does the PC version and we try and find differences between the 3. :P
I'll be buying it on the 360 though so someone else will have to do that format.
Still needs more Timo.
#sortitoutcodemasters
It looks ridiculously impressive. That Brawn crash, wow.
And also, the phrase "We're tailoring the car handling to a completely different market to that of GRID and DiRT 2" seems to fall on deaf ears for almost everyone...
They want to hear what they want to hear rather than what is being said. People just assume it'll be similar in that aspect for some reason, I've no idea why.
Well apparently they have already modelled the first 2010 car into the game and it is the Virgin, so... ;)
I'm going to imagine then Timo was the first driver in the game.
#allgoodnowcodemasters
Simple answer - if you don't like how it sounds or think it's going to be bad, don't buy it! Then again, they still will buy it and then slate it. So in fairness, with the haters you can never win.
My take on it is - I want the handling to be simulation but regardless, I am still buying this game for the simple fact that it looks awesome and it's the first proper F1 game to come out on the bigger next-gen consoles since F1 Championship Edition, and I love F1 and racing games. They're all the reasons I need.
Same here pretty much, can't wait! Anyways, sleep time for me too, my back is screaming for a lay down. Night guys.
i haven't watched the clip but they made a brawn crash!
#baaaadmove
Well, it was spectacular. I'm probably not helping...
Night lukeh
night Lukeh
Rest assured that won't happen at all in the final game - Brawn aren't in it ;) Not that that's a good thing in my mind, you understand...
I'm wondering, they have everything in for 2009... so why don't they also have it in the 2010 game as an added option or dlc?
Licensing issues, I believe. The 2009 cars are just placeholders for the 2010 cars.
i'd like that, but doubt it will happen.
I see. Shame.
But granted, it is a shame. I mean, you say the same about the 2008 and 2007 seasons and why they couldn't be made for DLC. It's the same reasons - Kimi's not at Ferrari any more, Toyota, BMW and Brawn no longer exist, etc. Mind you, it hasn't stopped them featuring Brawn so far.
brawn aren't in it??!!!!!!
#ooooohhhhmyyyyygooooodddddd
could*
I think my hypothetical sarcasm detector just went off the scale ;) :D
what i would like, is the option to create your own paint job. even if it's a limited thing like in grid. would make online racing so much more fun
What about something like in NASCAR 09, where you could download car body templates, put your own designs on them and then upload them online for you to download into the game? That would be quite cool :P
i doubt they would go that far. it would be great if they did. i'm still buying the game however it turns out
Indeed, I wouldn't have pre-ordered it this far in advance if I wasn't. The girl in HMV said to me when I did it "You know this game isn't coming out until September?" and I just said "Yep, still wanna pre-order it!" :D
