Hey Sidepodcastees, it's another happy, shiny qualifying Saturday and I invite you warmly to spend this Daily with me as we watch all the Saturday action. There's Formula 1 and there's Wimbledon tennis, but I don't know anything about tennis so I won't be mentioning it again. Now, Valencia is normally a boring track, unless you count Webber's smash last year - but with all the new-for-2011 improvements we're all hoping for an ace weekend and that we'll fall in love with the sport again. Valencia may be a street circuit, but it has no tramlines , unlike Singapore; it does, however have very tight barriers, so you can't fling the car around like a rally car, or it'll be game, set and match for you. The midfield will be hoping that the DRS zone on the straight sets them up for some overtaking moves and give them an advantage over the cars in front.
This Weekend In F1
- Webber Won't Move Over: With Mark Webber's team mate having handled the opening third of the season significantly better than him, the murmurings are bubbling over when Red Bull will ask the Australian to play defence to Vettel's title run. But Ol' Markie scoffed at the thought. At least it was reported like scoffing - our man on the scene, Sid Pödkast, reported that the driver 'choked back tears of sadness and/or rage'. He then made a quiet reference to the lure of Ferrari and froze on the spot, potentially due to the myth that, like the T-Rex, the sports media cannot see you if you aren't moving.
- Heidfeld: "New Clarity at Renault": Nick Heidfeld has said Renault have found a new understanding of its problems and is ready to move forward. The German, who is leading the team despite having just a one-year contract says the situation is completely clear with the Malaysian-French-English Renault-powered, Lotus-sponsored, Proton-owned team that is coloured in the livery of a cigarette company that doesn't sponsor it. "[We are] back on course" and "know which direction we are facing", added Quick Nick, who ended the last grand prix facing in the wrong direction down a non-racing part of the track.
- Massa Predicts More Overtaking in Valencia: Felipe Massa has suggested that the Pirellis and the double-DRS zone could lead to even more overtaking at Valencia than in previous years. It's one hell of a feat to imagine, after consulting the list of classic Valencia overtakes: Fuel hose overtakes Raikkonen's pitcrew (2008); Massa overtakes Raikkonen [in the championship standings] (2008); Grosjean overtakes Badoer by spinning him out (2009); Button lets Webber through after cutting the chicane (2009); Webber overtakes Kovalainen upside-down and in the air (2010); Hamilton overtakes the Safety Car (2010). Phew! 2011 has a lot to live up to!
This Time Last Year
- Button: "Dude, Where's My Car?"*: Jenson Button was annoyed at Mercedes GP (previously Brawn, Honda, BAR and Tyrell) for not rewarding him with his 2009 championship-winning car. Button was contracted to receive the BGP001 if he won the title, but Mercedes seemed reluctant to actually hand it over. Mercedes were unavailable for comment and journalists were unable to reach their Brackley HQ as the driveway was mysteriously jammed with lorries from Airfix, Tipp-Ex and the Stabilo Bros Highlighter Pen company.
- USF1 Banned from F1 Forever: The final nail was pounded into USF1's coffin after the FIA forfeited its entry fees and banned them from entering F1 for life. Peter Windsor still had hopes though for his assetless motorsport venture, citing Flavio Briatore, whose lifetime ban was rescinded: "Flavio made a driver plough into a concrete wall and he's allowed back, so I don't see why USF1 won't be on the grid in 2011."
- Drivers Criticise 'Proximity Wing' Proposal: The drivers were cool to the idea of a rear wing that could be adjusted if a driver gets within a second of the car in front (what would become DRS). Barrichello didn't like that the attacking driver could use it but not the defending one; Kubica said that there was no entertainment in seeing cars overtake on a straight; Webber said it was too much like a video game; Sutil said that it took away from the skill of defending.
This Time Next Year
F1 Shake Up On The Way: Bernie Ecclestone has declared the DRS/KERS/Pirelli era of F1 far too boring and has demanded that the FIA change the rules. 'The races are too consistently entertaining,' said the billionaire magical river sprite. 'Everyone turns up knowing that there's going to be great overtaking, mixed-strategies and a surprise winner. It's dull. We want people to watch without knowing if it's going to be a dull procession or not - I think the ideal amount is 10% great races, 90% dull processions because you've got to keep people waiting for the good ones.' Rumour has it that the new Tilke-designed Moscow track will be 26 chicances joined end-to-end in an effort to clamp down on overtaking.
'No Issues With Morality', say Ferrari: Stefano Domenicali has rebutted claims that Ferraris sponsorship deals are contrary to the spirit of F1. 'When we race, we race only with the logos and liveries that we are allowed,' said the team principal of Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro Herion. 'As a business, for sure we work with a number of companies outside the scope of F1, but that is the business and F1 is the racing.' Domenicali has been fighting fires left and right after official photos of the team's motorhome featured a poster on Alonso's bedroom wall with the slogan, "Iranian warheads are the best warheads" and the team announced a technical partnership with Packard Bell.
The F1-2010 Driver's Perspective: Valencia
As an F1 driver in the simulated world of F1-2010, I pretty much have an exact idea of how the experts drive the Valencian race, so here's the low down:
At the start, the drivers drift to the inside and go late on the brakes - don't worry, the cars ahead will slow them you down when they crash into them and push them into the wall on the outside. The drivers will want to try and keep close to the cars ahead as they make their way to the swing bridge where they will inevitably spin out over the kerbs. After recovering, they will head down the back straight, only to be overtaken by two or three cars on better setups, but an aggressive late brake into the chicane will force a few retirements. They'll need to manage the sliding car around the back of the circuit until they reach the final slow chicane and from their its a full throttle adventure to the final corner. At this point the drivers will probably have their eyes closed and praying for their lives and they zip between the barriers at full speed. Expect to see the likes of Kobayashi and Massa reaching for the Restart button as they make errors in this section. The final corner is a tricky one, so lots of drivers will probably accidentally drive into the pitlane as they brake too late and get confused by the circuit lines. Then, cross the finish line and repeat until the chequered flag. Simple!

So this Olympic ticket thing, I've been trying to work it out all night but kept being distracted by Glastonbury. :)
Apparently the site says there is availability on lots of things but won't let you apply because each event is 'currently unavailable'.
Searching the site reveals the only options are lots of football and volleyball (non-beach), with a bit of weight lifting..
Thinking will dovetail the £FOC road cycling with some volleyball then.
Sato just crashed in free practice, after qualifying on pole earlier
So much for my 1st lap prediction
OK, blast-from-the-past time!
I just came from the F1Fanatic forum, and we were talking about how we first saw the site. So I started up the Wayback Machine and went to about the time I began visiting it.
http://web.archive.org/web/20070728043605/http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/
If you're wondering why I'm sharing this here, check out the Top Commenters section. It has some familiar names in it. ;)
:D Oops. They can fix the car before the race, right? And Sato would keep pole?
Interesting
Yeah but there's no more running except an install lap so there's a question mark over whether it'll be as fast
True. On the other hand, at least he now knows where his limit is. Might help him avoid crashing in the race? At least I hope so - Sato's been a lot better in IndyCar, but it seems that along with his newfound pace, he's also rediscovered his old friend, raggedness.
I dunno about that, he's been crashing ever since he joined the series, it isn't new.
Indeed. Alia, Clive, and Milos (now F1Wolf) were all site regulars there back then. I'm pretty sure that helped me get comfortable here at SPC, as we probably all began visiting here at the same time.
Ahh. I guess what you mean is he always wasn't quick in IndyCars. Fair point. Although what I did mean is that he was much more competitive when he arrived here compared to when he left F1.
Journeyer, I started popping in around 2 years ago myself. Well, actually commenting...
which brings me to some awesome news
do share. :D
It would seem that, every time I start commenting here...
I get...
A JOB!
congrats :)
He's shown flashes of quickness amongst lots of crashing, I really thought he'd got that out of his system in F1.
Well done! :)
Two years ago I'd left my crappy job at a nursing home and had lots of free time over the summer race season, so I was here more often than not
Well done
...and then I got a really posh gig as a contractor for AT&T's DSL/broadband services
1 year, 1 month and...24 days ago I got laid off from said gig
He doesn't crash when he has a stable car under him. See BAR 2004 and Super Aguri 2007 (which is a Honda 2006 in effect). He might've gotten a good amount of help from the TC too. Come to think of it, he may have left F1 at the right time, if he was more reliant on the TC than first thought.
and it's been rough going since. But a few weeks ago (LM24-ish) I started commenting again...and just a few weeks later I got another decent job.
Coincidence? I think not
I always liked Sato, but felt he wasn't given a car up to his skills
A lot like Koybayashi (?, can never get it right).
That guy is a demon behind the wheel
It must be a sign for you not to leave again. :D
Japanese drivers have some pretty solid passing skills
Journeyer, I never left, I just didn't have the 'time' to be consistent. Looking for work is a lot harder than actually working, waaay more depressing, and a lot worse paying
And then when I was working, well, what with the time difference, whenever I had some free time (like now) it was 2:30AM-ish and nobody is around
Right now, I'm inclined to say Kobayashi has more potential than Sato. Kobayashi's finishing rate is much higher, and he had excellent overtaking numbers in 2009 and 2010, before DRS was implemented. Sato did get a very good car under him - the 2004 BAR was no slouch, and was 2nd-best car of that year behind only Ferrari. To get only 1 podium in that car (and throw away a 2nd one after a reckless accident with Rubens where only Sato got damaged) is very disappointing.
But yes, I shall indulge my race-freak from now on.
Super-freaky, yow. :D
bow-chica-wow-wow
re:Sato
fair enough. I suppose the stats tell the tale more clearly than my memories of him
Anyway, time for breakfast! Be back in a bit.
Although, the Ferrari was under the control of MSC, so if you take the stats from the OTHER ferrari, it might not be so lopsided, so in truth was the BAR actually better?
nom nom enjoy
off to watch FP1 myself. will be back at a more sane hour for the rest of you...
Ping - http://toomuchracing.com/2011/06/25/start-times-25-26-june-2011/
I'll sort out the sidebar another time.
If it isn't raining in the morning I'll be golfing, so will miss the F1 qualifying and the Assen MotoGP, live at any rate. And probably also the start of the N24 which is annoying..
If it is raining I'll be here I'm sure.
Goodnight..
Barrichello was a comfortable 2nd ahead of Button, so I still think the Ferrari was better. Also, one factor that is taken against BAR is that they didn't win a race, when the next 3 teams behind them (Renault, Williams, McLaren) won 1 apiece.
Hi,
just to clarify: there are no tramlines in Singapore. We do have underground subway lines beneath the circuit though :)

I guess I set my alarm for 2pm and not 2am
facepalm
No, don't tell me, qualifying was awesome, right?
Not over yet.
oh! nEVERMIND THEN!
HUSTLES OVER TO THE QUALI THREAD
HUGE Lap 1 crash in MotoGP.
Aggh, why couldnt they have waited, what happened?
Don't wanna spoil it, but it's a pretty significant crash.
Watching it now, can see the aftermath
I joined after the replays I guess.
Looks for the 2 drivers who are out of position in the order.
At least they are still running I suppose!
6 options on the red button today. Why can't they do this every week?
Am a tad bored by this MotoGP race.. if we're talking about racing which needs attention look no further, these used to be amazing.
MEanwhile in Valencia
The curse of the GP2 championship lead strikes again. New champ leader Pic stops on track en route to grid. Car craned off. - @WillBuxton
This is a race? I'm not really paying attention and assumed it was qualy. Why is the race on a Saturday?
Assen's always been on a Saturday. Initially for religious reasons, apparently. But they've kept in on Saturdays for novelty value.
Because it's Assen! Love these traditions.
OK. I agree with Pat though, MotoGP is quite dull this year
No Rossi magic as he settles into Ducati - coincidence?
Ducatis were previously made for Casey. Rossi's still adjusting it. Racing a b-spec bike this weekend.
No, I mean the fact that Rossi is not competitive is coincidental to dull races?
I thought he'd do better. Last time he switched teams he won first time out.
Hmmm. That would be a coincidence, IMO.
Perhaps, but with a 17 rider field, a couple of injuries and you are down to 15-14. Blah. MotoGP needs a way to have backup riders ready to go at a moment's notice, i.e. an injured rider in Quali should be able to be replaced for the race. Perhaps even for the race-day warm up. Next year looks better with what, 6 new bikes (or is that teams)?
Either way, it's not as good as it was
Looks like MotoGP will also be racing in Austin from 2013.
That circuit is looking like a better and better idea every time we talk about it.
It doesn't help.. but usually the field is tighter than now anyway.
I like what they are doing..
I admit I haven't been following the last 2 years or so....are they limited by number of teams as in F1 or...?
By the way the GP2 race should be starting any time now. I myself am going to watch the Nuburgring 24 start on this link here - http://adac.24h-rennen.de/Live-Streaming-Premium.4091.0.html
SHHHHHH! Stop saying that, or you'll get a bunch of texas politicians in here demanding you cut your funding for SPC
Nope. Manufacturers have been pulling out. And unlike F1, they don't sell their teams to privateers when they do pull out. Privateers have also struggled financially.
4:30 on Eurosport 2
I have only been watching for 3 years or so. I think it's more the sponsorship situation
1st lap on Speed..Ouch! No friends to be made!
Mark Blundell and Johnny Herbert are sharing a car
Wow, they are really shafting GP2 this year
Last lap already? Missed that.
Porsche had a pretty decent setup to cover the race too... http://www.porsche.com/microsite/motorsport-live/flash/default.aspx?language=en&market=INT&pool=international&instance=454&width=1680&height=1050&deeplink=&startWithLogin=false
Re MotoGP it sounds like we had the fireworks on Lap 1 which mean't the rest was compromised...
We'll need to wait until 2012 to see if the Ducati/ Rossi marriage is going to work....
Please, no spoilers.
Probably because MotoGP takes precedence today.
Yep, hardly any live races now. Guess the viewing figures are low but still...
Eurosport have rarely shown GP2 race 1 live for the last couple of years. Not anything new there.
BE must have sabotaged the whole MotoGP thing b/c they were the first to broadcast in HD.
They were working on some really great camera setups, too
Are we doing a thread for tonight's IndyCar race? Sato starting from pole.
great I had the live stream for the 24 running but reloaded it and now...nothing :/
live timing is running...formation laps right? 10+ minutes
HEY finally those years I spent sitting in German claass will come in handy
I was given this link for live GP2 http://t.co/Ix9ODtv
I'm going to stick with the 24
well at least i get to watch some racing before...
I go to...

I've missed you all. I'm back from the land of middle school, thank God.
I thought you were ignoring us
Very carefully. RLM said that there were "literally" fights in the pit lane.
WoooHooo! Sabine is running.... Booooo, not in an M5.
WooHoo Fine result in MGP! Really happy for him.
I was absolutely buried in work. I have too much going on at one time. The end of the school year is not for the meek.
Badly
oh, I'd better go read the meetup post that Bassano wrote.

There were fights. Pictures too ambling around yesterday of a couple of punch-ups
Very true.
I should get some supplies and have a shower #haventmovedsincebeforeF1quali
Not the same photogs as in Chinese night clubs?
Carlos Sainz is also running. VW Scirocco # 117 Familliar, if perhaps new team mates... Nasser Al-Attiya, Klaus Niedzwiedz and Giniel De Villiers.
See you later, Pat.
I have a technical question about GarageBand. Anyone here versed in it?
It's starting to rain again. Looks like we are due for another 200 pit stops
Christine had a blog post or two about it
A bit. WHat's up?
Halloooo I have escaped from work :D :D :D
I'm new to it and I want to be able to record in sections and not have to do the whole script perfectly the whole way through. How do I record in multiple tracks and get them to join together at the end and sound like one long track?
You should keep running. :P How goes it?
Hi Alison
Well done
Engine blow up at Bergwerk. That's where Niki Lauda had his accident
You would be so proud.
I'm going to get some nachos, curl up on the sofa, watch some tv and try not to fall asleep.
What time do you want a headping to waken you?
Hah :D Nonono not allowed.
Hmmm... Drop-in's aren't really Garageband's speciality to be honest. You may need to add a separate track for each piece you want to re-record and then line them up later using the drag tool.
Thereafter you could export as a single wav file, but I find there's no real easier easier way to do it on Garageband in a professional manner. I suppose it depends how you want it to sound.
The latest joe evening is a tad pricey at 150GBP
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/06/25/going-to-silverstone/
In saying that, I really haven't used Garageband in a while, as I normally use Pro Tools, so my advice might be out of date.
And if there are any sounds in the change over from track to track, how do I get rid of them? I assume I cut out the noisy parts on the track, but it's not always as smooth as I want it to be.
£150 !!!! Sorry, but no.
okay, thanks Leigh.
Outrageous
ohhh noo bad SLS, bad!
its only 40
http://www.morienval.com/silverstone.html
150gbp is for the whole virgin weekend.
ah thats better, he should have linked to that though!
You could apply a noise gate, but if I remember correctly Garageband doesn't have one. To be frankly honest, noise gate's can be a bit hit-and-miss - I often find it's easier to just re-record the piece again and try to "dampen" the room to block out excess outside noise.
It could also come down to the type of mic used. The poorer the mic, the more noise spillage it picks up.
he did, where do you think I got the link from :D
Phew.
That seems a bit more sensible
I'm glad to hear that because that's what I've been doing.
Yes, that's most definitely true. I just bought a new mic because the old one was awful.
I just got this one http://www.virginexperiencedays.co.uk/?r=5084
His blog doesn't mention a price in the piece and carries a poster with £150 on it...
Remember, he is only a journo... not a graphic artist!
which clearly says its for the Marussia Virgin Racing Weekend. If you click on the picture that says An Audience With Joe it takes you to it, theres also a picture right next to it that says An Audience With Joe in Silverstone - Click For More
So that means he can't put down the price of his own event??
Same question - he can't put £40 on that poster??
If someone sees one price and balks at it, they are not going to investigate further. It's not rocket science.
well hes obviously doing some sort of deal with Virgin for all this so he probably wants you to pay the 150 pound to them. But he's not hiding the fact that its 40 pound at all, hes linked to it twice.
I didn't think following the Joe link rather than the Virgin link was rocket science either, but I am in the minority :D
It's not the audiences job to find out the price by following a trail.
It's a very basic rule in promoting anything. Put the price up front. Potential audiences should not need to investigate further.
I didnt realise it was a link, i assumed it was just a phot of the impressiveness of the venue
Exactly.
To me it was basic reading comprehension, but we're going to agree to disagree
I have to go do some errands and do a voice over audition, so I'll be around later. Once this bit of work is done, then I am officially on vacation! woo hoo. But I'll save my woohooing for later. Work first, then play.
Ciao.
see you later kai
Thanks for your help.
Sorry, but no. If you're promoting something, you cannot be ambiguous about anything. Every essential detail needs to be spelled out for potential audiences.
No sweat
:)
well if you won't agree to disagree you also won't change my mind so I'll be in the Wimbledon thread :)
The picture was a link? Never occurred to me
Bye Kai
It's not a case of agreeing or disagreeing, it's a business I was in for a lot of years. These are lessons that were drilled into me very early on.
Leigh, Amy has asked to drop the subject nicely, and still you've chased her into another thread. Please don't scare away commenters.
On a sad note, it is raining in Iowa. Not a good start for this evening's IndyCar race.
Apologies, but I assumed I was making a pretty basic point.
Lovely hot shower, and a nice walk to the shop and back..
Turns out golf would've been fine after all, will miss the race tomorrow for nothing unless it turns wet again
Judging by the weather forecast, it be dry. Very dry.
First 12mins of the N24h from Mattzel89

Working live feed.
http://tv.audi.com/#/01
I'm going to take the approach of having it on whilst doing other things and not necessarily commenting/tweeting all night about it :)
Have it on linked to RLM. Nice while I'm waiting for my washing to finish
:)
And nicely in sync too
I saw a Blundell mention earlier. Anyone else we know in it?
I've been trying to work that out. The biggest names from an F1 perspective are Blundell and Herbert, sharing a VW but not a front-running one (well it is in their class I think).
Lots of names we know from Le Mans. Pedro Lamy in a BMW (actually entered into two cars..).
The leading Ferrari is one from Le Mans and has Farnbacher and Simonsen joined by one of Alia's favourites, Jaime Melo.
Timo Bernhard, Lucas Luhr and Romain Dumas who've all raced Audis in LM are in a Porsche.
Mika Salo is sharing a nice-looking experimental Ferrari P4/5 with Nicola Larini and Fabrizio Giovanardi. It isn't built by Ferrari though, built by N-Technology for those who might know them..
Still looking through the very long list..
They're trusting him with two cars?? :)
In case he breaks one...
Carlos Sainz, Al-Attiya and De Villiers are all in a scirocco
:)
Backup plan I guess!
You could say that Lamy was an F1 'star' too. Plus Lamy is going for a record 6th victory in the race
There's one driver entered under the name "Bugs Bunny" complete with quotes :)
Wow - Jean Jacques Perrey's interpretation of "Flight of the Bumble Bee" is..... interesting...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czeC8THYCJ8&feature=player_embedded
...especially when compared with this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QV1RGMLUKE
:D
Not Kimi again, is it?
;)
:)
There is also a "Hans Dampf"... Jack Of All Trades.
I hadn't realised Glasto coverage was on already, shall get a tab open for that thread :)
Hello everyone :)
Did you enjoy today's qualifying?
I did so! I felt like Christine, doing a live coverage: directo.caranddriverthef1.com
Ooh, well done, how did you find it?
Amusing! I hadn't done that for a while :)
Hehe.
Major issue at the Rolex at Road America! A GT car has cone way off, through the tire barrier and outside the track!
Oh my word !! Did he end up near people or is everyone that side safe?
Woah
Correction, the car went UP AND OVER the catch fence. Looks like a stuck throttle.
The driver is out and walking back to the pits.
Found a Grand-Am link
http://www.justin.tv/6brian6#/w/1384396880/2
Just saw it - holy moly !!
Someone mention the Kimster?...
He destroyed the catch fencing and tyres barrier - they won't run for a while
The driver of the other car involved in the accident, which stayed in the gravel trap, is still in the car and they want to cut the car to get rim out.
The track is sending extra machinery to help with the cleanup.
The irony is the other driver who had a less intense looking shunt into the tire barrier is still in the car and they trying to get him out. He's alert and awake but they wanted to use the jaws to cut the car. The driver said it's his car and he will not let them cut it. Doctors are attending to him. Joe Foster is the driver, I just heard.
Oh dear. You could kind of see his brakes just went. Not a nice corner to lose them.
We're talking about the other car, the one that was in front and hit by the guy with no brakes.
I know.
Ok.
What a day there.
Joe Foster in the Mazda is still in the car while the other guy goes up and over the fence and walks back???
It was a side-hit, like Moldonado at Monaco... Look what that got him.
Aye - his rear got squeezed. Not often you see car get it in both ends like that.
Joe Foster has been extricated and transported to and in the ambulance on a stretcher. There seemed to be no hurry about it.
Do we know who was in the car that went over the fence?
A necessary procedure for any drivers that get cut out?
Orange Camaro...Maldach or something like that.
They took out Foster's windshield to get him out, oh and can see now they did cut the roof.
Gunter Schaldach.
John Dagys of Speed was right there!
http://yfrog.com/gyi59beoj
Wow....
Gunther Schaldach, confirms there were no brakes.
So anyway, Indycar back to Road America next year.... (maybe)
And he's totally, completely fine. Great recount step by step of what happened.
Wait till he sees what it looked like.
I should go finish up my work, then I can watch Indy tonight.
Wait till he sees what it looked like.

Ah diddums, seems I've upset Adam Cooper as he thinks this is an 'abusive tweet':
So, it seems only if you agree with @adamcooperf1's advertorial blog post, do you make it out of moderation #f1
Which was sent at least 4hrs after other blog comments were approved, some 8 hours after mine was written. A bit sensitive
http://adamcooperf1.com/2011/06/23/frostnixon-team-to-make-huntlauda-movie/
I was right. Foster took both a rear and front end hit. Nasty
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

What I still don't understand is why are people reporting this "news" now, when it was announced last year... Even I wrote about it before Christmas.
General ???
Ok, The first point is subjective. And no, I didn't have an issue until at least 2 comments were approved much late in he day. If he only wants to approve agreeing opinions, I'm more than happy to not be associated
Could be that he was referring to other tweets and not mine, I haven't checked.
I think you don't love me anymore Bassano. It's been months since you've sent me an abusive tweet! :)

I'll try to make more if an effort. Obviously, it packs quite a punch, I may need a rest :D
Dang
And now a BMW over the barriers at the Nuburgring as well
No, it looks like it was mine.
For the record, I stated that Ron Howard was a less than inspired choice to direct rather than the earlier slated Paul Greengrass
I was thinking I saw a load of flag marshals on circuit a minute ago
For anyone who was waiting, the Porsche track map seems to be working....

Pruett and Ganassi back to the winners circle in DP. A first time (?) win for the Whalen Corvette in GT after one leaser then another fall foul to fuel finality.
Lots of Ganassi wins this year?
I'm drifting to and fro this 24 race. The Hankook Farnbacher Ferrari (Melo etc) has dropped from the lead to 26th and I missed why, 2 laps down which here is a long way.
Herbert/Blundell are 25th
Eveniiiing :)
Hello
How are you Pat?
It seems the realtime sidepodcast discussion is quite quiet today...
I'm ok, you?
Was busy in multiple threads earlier.
Fine :)
I've just read that my bosses don't need my help to translate the F1 Press Conference (woohooo!)
I'm engrossed in a (fairy disappointing) speedway GP.
It seems there are some sidepodneighbours following the Wimbeldon tournement!
What Championship?
Speedway Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, biggest event of the speedway year in my opinion.
At least it's motorsport... I am watching a kind of MTV channel... Awful music. I wonder why don't I switch off the TV.
Now it's a French song.
They wanna kill me!!
Only if it's Celine or JV singing!
Following the Nurburgring 24 on radiolemans but might switch to the Nationwide race at Road America in a little bit to see how JV does.
Turned off Glastombury because I don't like the people they had on.
although another hour has rolled around so might try again in a minute
I've got 149 followers in Twitter.
Only one to reach the magical 150 number... It's a thriller situation.
I got the wrong time, JV's race is at 10.30 UK
We have a booking from a Marcus Grönholm in the youth hostel tonight. #holdsbreath
:) I'd love it if it was!
Woah! Awesome!
Ping: http://www.f1minute.com/news/sebastian-vettel-secures-pole-position-for-the-european-grand-prix
Is the youth hostel seperate from the sheep thing?
:)
jep the sheeps are all having a good time running free in the mountains now and I am back in the south of Iceland cleaning after stupid tourists.
Evening all. Hope you enjoyed all the racing today :)
We went on a road trip today with some friends to see some white cliffs like the ones in Dover. We had a great time and here's a few pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rubbergoat/sets/72157627045639298/
Ah, nice
if i was there i would be asking why there isnt ice everywhere ;)
I would tell you to turn around so you can see the glacier
Evening all
:) :)
:D :D
When does the Indycar race kick off?
2am.
There's a Villeneuve-does-NASCAR-Nationwide-at-Road-America at 10.30pm and the N24 is live now.
We discussed this after the last race. I forgot it was stupid o'clock
I may watch a bit of NASCAR later and I will definitely watch a bit more from the Nurburgring
When it does kick of, look who is on pole.... Taku Sato! Local TV seems to have it on a 1 hour delay, due to NASCAR
When he got pole I posted a comment saying that I would bet he would crash on lap 1. He didn't wait that long. He crashed in a practise session later the same day so he starts from pole with a re-built car
Having disappointing pizza. Really should have got a dominoes. #blamenick
The clue was in the name
There are only a handful of Domino's in Denmark and they don't deliver - so we have to pick it up by car. So we have it after we go shopping on Mondays ;)
Not all F1 stewards are slow - and Lamy's been in the wars again.
@lendurancelive
Pedro Lamy gets a three minute stop and go for his assault of a slower car at Karussel: that's a four hour wait for the decision there.
Just over 3 hours according to RLM
They are looking to replicate F1 stewards judging speed.
Good grief!
The only unsurprising thing is that Pedro Lamy did something stupid again
Lamy's penalty appears to be for driving in the wrong direction
He did. I ran wide at the preceding corner which put him on the grass on the inside of Karussel, he t-boned a slower class BMW and ended up facing the wrong way. Couldn't turn immediately due to the banking so he drove back down the course 50m to turn around (although the slower car managed a 5-point turn without going anywhere).
he ran wide not I ran wide
I saw it in replay on Audi TV
How can an ex-F1 driver not spin turn a car? I could do that when I was 18
Yeaaah, that sounds about right :)
I didn't know he was on Twitter. About the thing yesterday. Who are JAMC or am I being stupid..
I'm glad some people liked the Manics gag . For me the JAMC song refs in last Autumnwatch were tougher to twist in.
- @ChrisGPackham
if you want a feed for Jacques Villeneuve, Max Papis and Ron Fellows doing NASCAR it is here http://www.justin.tv/6brian6?#/w/1384396880/5
Nearly forgot about that
JV 2nd
Papis 3rd
JV leads
Big Pic ping: http://www.f1bigpicture.com/news/pulling-a-fast-one
Loving the onboard of Papis showing how to use the pedals properly
Only got half an eye on RA whilst Glastonbury is on, but credit to NASCAR for not going yellow for a spin/continue on a road course, sure they used to
BLARGH!
If you all have any doubt that NewsCorp is a bad, bad bad deal...
1)Valencia F1 race is on a 4 hour delay tomorrow. National 'free to air' FOX affiliates, just delayed. BTW, this is only one of a very few on the national 'free/over the air' schedule. The rest are exclusively on cable/SPEED
2) NASCAR @ Sonoma airs on TNT (another cable network) tomorrow @3pm. One of two road course races and they stuff it onto a network that some cable providers don't even carry in their basic packages anymore
NFL, OTOH, gets prime-time priority to the detriment of their other programming.
I haz a sad
wow. truly awful background music on this feed in the dead of night. MUTE
Max Papis getting a penalty for driving thru too many pit boxes before reaching his. bummer
The disadvantage of not knowing the intricacies of a championship's rules
well it's for safety and all...
/sarcasm
road america is such an awesome track
Jacque getting hit with a penalty for changing lanes before the restart
JV - penalty for changing lanes on the re-start
Classic NASCAR commentary.... "... he is in the top 15, in 12th..."
Doesn't look anything like it on the replay, he moved slightly but not all the way
NASCAR officials are going to slam these guys every chance they get, they've gotten a lot of pressure from the 'regulars' and team owners to make it 'fair' against the 'ringers'
That is the sort gray area rule of thing that Kanan, Castoneves or Papis got at Cleveland last year, on a last-ish lap restart.
Maudit Jacques! Awaye! Dans le fond!
I really hate NASCAR, with a passion. So much energy expended for an obsolete and ridiculous series. The tech isn't even remotely relevant.
You have to wonder how the teams let JV and Papis get those penalties. They should be talking to them and making sure those things don't happen. Getting a penalty for something in the heat of battle is one thing but those were both slo mo incidents
foreign sounding names, Steven.
You'd better believe there are fans cussing up a storm in the infield whenever they perceive the tiniest slight against their fav drivers
There are so many "minor" rules that you can' be yapping in the drivers ear all day long. I am sure that if I had to pass a driving exam, 100%. There would be a few places I would make mistakes, knowing I can't make any mistakes.
Always helps :)
They won't like their favourites losing to the furriners
egggsactly sir. I'm not accusing the officials of favoritism, but they know who their main benefactors on pit road are. there are def. a lot of things going on under the table
Iowa speedway, oh yeah. I grew up about 40 miles from that place
That's a BS penalty for JV
Although surely it didn't exist at the time :)
Nope. Was pretty exciting development. And, wouldn;t you just know it, they received a fairly substantial tax break and subsidies to build it. But because it were NASCAR nobody pitched a fit when they spent money on it
Compare to Austin/circuit of the Americas
'Dem dere foreigners, them cheese eating you're a peein...' etc etc.
Pretty pathetic really.
I hate bigots and racists. Not as bad in Iowa as Georgia or the deep southeast but it's there.
from the justin feed:
"Dougie1112: wish they knew what a corner caution was in nascar"
some fairly intelligent viewers at least
ah hah. Fam just left for dinner. I get to hog the big screen, finally.
'ring 24 feed on the lvngrm PC, NASCAR on the big screen, and SPC on the lappy. ahhhh I can finally relax a bit
Parting shot from my stepmother before walking out the door (to go eat out for the nth time this week):
"Maybe you could start painting while we're gone"
Seriously I just got a freaking job today and it's 103 degrees outside. give me a break.
OH, and I cooked breakfast before leaving to accept that job offer this morning.
we're all bi-polar over here...
Your stepmother sounds like mine.
Good times.
Hi guys
hello.
yeah, I can't wait to get back out on my own again.
She also took a bottle of wine I made to give to her friends, yet has stopped me from making the beer me and my dad would enjoy making and drinking.
I mean....really, I try to love this person...
b/c FAMILY...
and yet
Hi Kai
It's okay. she'll be old soon enough.
I'll still be the bigger person, but I'll get to rub it in when they need my help.
"hey, remember that one time..."
In time I realized she did the best she could and meant well, we're just very different people with very different values and always will be. Years ago it was really aggravating, but now it's peaceful. It helps that we live very far away from each other. :)
ANYWAYS...
Anyone else think it's odd that the different NASCAR series are all doing road racing this weekend, except they're on opposite side of the country?
seems pretty silly doesn't it?
Hai Kai
They should be on the same track on the same weekend. That would be a good excuse to get Cup at RA as well.
:)
Living far away from family can help
Distance makes the heart grow fonder....or not have to deal with stuff on a daily basis.
That's the saying, as I recall.
yeah I'm just annoyed as h311 that she stops me and my father from enjoying some things together. I mean, I'm always gonna be his son, so what's the point?
ANd if she wasn't such a...meanie *ahem*...I'd be more than happy to do stuff w/her. Shes my family...heck, I go all out for my close friends, even. Makes me sad.
But enough of that. friends are family, and family are friends. Never gonna change that
What do you all think of the 'stock' cars here?
Is anyone going to watching Indy tonight?
I will.
Not a huge fan
Yep
I will try... Not sure how successful I will be.
V8 carb'd pushrod engines leftover from 1970's era drag racing
I'm not either but it can be fun now and then.
Doubt it, too late
Have beer, will watch with
the ONLY thing I can dig is the ability to bumpngrind in these strange turns that aren't right

THat doesn't bother me. And they are going to have fuel injection from McLaren soon.
I don't like all the yellows. They seem to spend half of every race running under yellows
It's a great sound to hear (and feel) in person, but it's not holding my interest. I have developed such a love for sportscars LeMans style, with mixed classes. And I love Bathurst when it happens. (yes, I'm still talking about it)
F1 is top, but that's a given.
Joe, I'm just about to pop open some beer I made, in secret (in my closet) and setle in for a long...looong...raceday. I figure it'll be over this time tomorrow
Yay. Who are you pulling for?
You do know there is a full Aussie V8 championship with the same cars
SATO
I hope not, I have to be up at 0520 to go running, then work, but I get to sleep at work, so what the hell
Nurburgring Nordschleife 24 is in progress but the TV seems to have stopped for the night, as happens.. Relying on RLM when I'm not listening to other things.
yes but they're fundamentally different. Bet you can't guess how
Yes, but I can't find them or have the time to search for links. Maybe I'll do that on my vacation.
#note to self
there's still the Audi feeds, and some other stuff if you dig around enough (no I don't know where) . Did the Porsche track stat page ever start working properly?
Audi just cuts to a static pitlane shot or interviews.
I gave up on Porsche
Tonight's race has taken much longer than it ought to have
What race are we talking about?
Nationwide
http://www.justin.tv/6brian6?#/w/1384396880/6
Holy crap. I just stumbled across a Thievery Corporation documentary I will record. What a bad fan, I had no idea there was one. I'm excited to see it, though.
Yeah, the ADAC feed seems to have gone pit-lane only. Too many bratwurst and hefeweizen for the directors....
You have....

10 laps to go sirs...and maybe a ma'm
Ah, checked in on it, but prefer watching the Rays score runs while waiting for Indy
:D
OMG I LOVE THOSE GUYS! <3
Yes, sir. That's me. :)
Kai knows one of them
'richest man in babylon' made my entire year when it came out. I'm a huge downtmpo/IDM fan
Obviously, I was born on the wrong continent
I like real beer, road racing, 'socialist' politics, techno in all it's flavors, and mass transit systems integrated into reasonably planned communities.
*sigh
hehe
A twitter chat is hardly "knowing", but thanks for that. :)
I saw them in NYC last fall - phenomenal show. I've loved them since "Sounds from Thievery Hi-Fi" but that was my first time seeing them.
If you happen to have the Documentary Channel "Thievery Corporation:Live at 9:30" is the doc.
Oh, and a little thing called 'history and sciences'
Me too.
Alrighty then
And common sense, dry humor, and less is more, not bigger, better, faster.
*also sigh
'WELL F YOU DON'T LIKE IT, LEAVE!'
I mean, really?
#no politics
So in the GrandAm crash earlier when one car flipped over the barrier but was fine, and the guy who went into the tyres took a while to be extracated... Leigh Diffey just tweeted this about the latter
Here's how strong Joe Foster is. On a commercial flight back home to Atlanta tonight! Good on ya mate! http://www/yfrog.com/kkeohwj
I couldn't get far enough away...
http://www.yfrog.com/kkeohwj
I've been worried about him since it happened. It took soo long to hear anything. That's usually not good. I read a tweet that said he was in the airport with a neck brace on, sore and heading home.
I know, no politics. I was being sarcastic. Over here, anything 'over there' is considered the 's' word.
*axe to grind
Great picture. :)
mmm I need me some sweet corn. they keep saying the word 'Iowa'.
gonna fight fight for Iowa...na na na nah nah nah na naaah...
Damn, cooking at work tommorrow, should have had corn on the cob
where was the grand am race today? And how did I miss yet another race?
Seriously, who has the time/bandwidth to watch all the good stuff anymore?
Road America
It isn't easy
ALMS needs to consolidate the road racing series into one decent set so they can get better coverage
At Road America! Pruett "Hi to his family" - Ganassi won in DP. The Whalen 'Vette in GT, for their first win.
Agreed. Does this mean that NASCAR headlined at a Sportscar race?
Saw the Grand Am/Rolex series a few years back at Iowa Speedway. Short track, but great racing
hahah
@indycaradvocate after much complaining from DF lately..
Ready for Dario's next interview: http://lockerz.com/s/114168139
Nationwide technically isn't a headliner but yeah.
Nothing like a crappy b-string series trumping other better series
I'm waiting to hear if the audition I sent in will be used so I can have my first official hired job as a voice over actor. The job comes from the Netherlands where a company is working on an iPad story for children. I don't have a great feeling about it, and usually I'm pretty good at being able to tell, but we'll see. It's only another audition, and it's all good practice, but I want to get one one of these days.
I kick myself for missing the Miami Grand Prix in the early 90's when the #83 Nissan was dominating. Thee most beautiful race car.....ever
When NW and Dayton run in Montreal, NW is the headline, though I would bet that half the crowd is there to see the sportscar.
hehe
When he said that I laughed knowing you guys would chuckle at it.
Why do they want an American. The Dutch are the best English speakers in Europe
ha ha
I do like Dario a lot, but that is funny.
We speak more gooder than no one
:D
fo sho.
;)
I would agree. As a feeder series, even Nationwide is all FAIL, since the Sprint cup guys/teams usually dominate that series, as well.
It's be like Fernando and his man-mane racing in GP2
They are doing various versions in all accents worldwide.
I see
Sato starts next to Danica with TK behind.
*gulp*
Technically speaking - and I do speak with some knowledge on the subject - people from the midwest of America speak the most proficient, perfect english of any culture around the world
whoops somebody getting sideways.
garbage.
Yellow flag w.4 laps to go. BOOOOORING
Taku talking, I was on a flight with him from Montreal to Indy after his awesome 6th place finish in a Super Aguri
OK NW setting up for a rumble in the, in the, in the.... O.K. Wisconsin... Yellow flag, 4 laps left. JV in 4th behind Mad Max Papis. JV spent two laps cooking his brakes trying to get past. The leaders are on fuel strategies, so the yellow flags are welcome, though an overtime green-white-checker may not be.
Stupid Durango commercials.
Just...rrrr. so much FAIL
These ads during the Indy pre-shows flog me within an inch of my life.
G-W-C is a bigger farce than anything F1 has put into play in the last decade.
"ohh, we'll just extend the race a half dozen laps until we get a racing finish"
How about they not throw a full course caution/yellow? (that would take track marshals who can retrieve a stricken car without getting in the way of the actual racing)
Do we have a time on the green flag?
WERD!
Today I learned Quaker State is oil. I have seen them on cars for ever and I had no idea what they did. I thought it was breakfast cereal
I don't. I wish I did. Til then MUTE is my best friend.
Funny thing is, other series have races on these same course, accidents in the same corners, AND THEY KEEP ON RACING.
Wow. So did I.
only to the most serious drivers.
Phew
meh.
MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC all the way, baby
I think because we have Quaker Oats and I assumed there was a connection
even in my 1978 Lincoln town car, all 4,600lbs of it
Yeah. Daytona is worse, where each class has their pit lap, so any yellow is a 4 lap deal. 1 lap to regroup. 1 DP, 1 GT, one regroup. Green. Last year, or the year before in Montreal there were 52 minutes of yellow over a 2 hour race.
hehe
And while we're at it, what the heck is Allianz??
Quaker Oats, another IOWA product (made in Cedar Rapids, IA, my hometown)
Insurance, right?
Insurance
It was good enough to get Tony Stewart to fit in the McLaren!
That, and Cap'n Crunch.
mmmmm nothing like waking up to the overpowering smell of cooking cereal
That's how they got him in the car?
ALMS does that too now I think
rofl. can't...breathe....laughing so hard
Yeah, and what's this Fosters stuff....oh, wait, I'm drinking it now
Alianz: sponsor of the best has-been F1 team in history
NASCAR: we say we're racing a certain distance...until we're notq
Questioning Alianz... What is Zepter... http://www.zepter.com/
Zepter: 007 nemesis and world-wide conglomerate headed by Christopher Walken
JV pulls an EPIC fail move... and gets away with it.
REALLY NASCARS?
WOW. only another 10 laps until the end of the race
good job Jaq
Takes out (at least) 2 cars, both ahead. 11 and 33 (Papis)
facepalm
Yeah, that was the pit exit.
Much like an on-ramp, it goes away
DUH
well at least he knows who did it, from inside the car eh?
Deary me
Max pulls out his Axe
And JV keeps rolling, of course.
This isn't going to end well for the 'ringers'
I guarantee a backlash
Papis looking to get back on the track... I wonder why...
To repay Jack, why not?
What the heck is this commercial about?
Nuclear energy or some 6 year old drawing on the TV?
I'm consuzed
What is with the kids in the ads today?
'dern kids! GET OFF MY LAWN!'
It's going to read a lot like the GT-Am drivers at LM24.
buncha NASCAR fans ripping on non-regulars
OMG I want to race on that kart track
MP is DONE.
Papis in the pits. Car puking water. Using the sledge hammer to get the rest of the stuff in line.
G-W-C attempt #2...
so, what, 15 laps over the set distance? Classy, nascar
'worried about runnin out of gas'
How can this possibly be seen as a legitimate result/finish, I always wonder
Well, if it ain't one home-town-boy, then another will do fine. I have to get out and see his new play ground.
Sad that this represents the state of American road racing in the 'pinnacle' series
He's now trending on Twitter. And not in a good way.
whats the word on Indy?
good feeds?
That'll come tomorrow with the Cup race.
(we ditched our cable/sat provider a few months ago)
ah hah ha.
touche

I haven't tried it yet but it is usually reliable
yeah I fgured.

Always the same links
@toomuchcountry Hey Jacques Villeneuve, now THAT was a dumb thing to do. Signed, Texting While Driving.
This is the general tone of the twitter feedback for JV.
shhh. my bookmarks folder keeps forgetting
clusterkcuf
predictable
4-6 cars off on the restart. It looks like a smash up derby.
Yellow again
another caution.
Any bets on how many cars actually finish?
this is just embarassing
flagman at the s/f looks bored
hip checks
Imagine if Villeneuve had made some of those moves
Reminds me of global rallycross.
on slicks
Okay, Pizza ordered, ready to race, sorry to say Indycar not done gabbing
How can this finish even pretend to be credible?
At some races, the fans pelt the track w/beer cans and garbage.
Too bad the fence is so far from the track at RA eh?
Dear Indy,
Let's GO already!
But the question would be... Did you order Domino's?
'I'm about to throw up'
ditto
Totino's party pizza in my freezer, oh yeah
And what do you have on it?
I hope you got a large, I think we're all gonna ask for a slice. :)
No Papajohns, large up to 7 topping for $11
green pepper, onions, sausage and ham...I put the jalapenos on myself.
Joe, you're down in Miami area right? I think we may have talked about heading to the cape for a launch a few years ago
Sounds good.
back when I lived in jacksonhell
I am in SW Fla, Ft. Myers area. Are there anymore launches?
One more
No last one was last week...right Steven/
okay 1 more
Damn! They deliver to Montréal? I'll have the vegetarian, but replace the peppers with sausage, the tomato with cappicolo, the mushrooms with more sausage and 4 more sausage.
Hey, I used to work for Clay County Fire/Rescue. I freaking hated it
So is my stepmonster. Steer clear. :)
I think it was the last night launch, I really wanted to see that.
Will do, tell her to stay off Sanibel
July 8th 11:26am. Or some time in the 6 months after that. It is a NASA schedule
http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts135/status.html
yeah I got laid of a year ago...lived outta my truck for a few months b/c my lease was up the same month, and no jobs to be found. Left the swamp far behind
I think you're safe there.
WE could do a meet up, Steven Roy, you in?
hehe
Can't do Florida unless there is very long delay -6 months
I find it soo depressing. I'm a big sci-fi buff and we're backing away from space.
boooooooo
k so finally everyone realizes thay'd like to finish
The good thing is there are going to be a lot of private companies launching all sorts of things
THAT TEARS IT. I'm done with nascar
I was at UCF and they were always shooting something off and from Orlando, it looked great
There are more people in the gravel now than any of the other three times they could have finished the race
A few cars around.... this should finnish under yellow in a a bit.
yeah, I know...I moved to New Mexico so I guess I migrated along with the spaceflight
un-flippin-believable.
I bet the deep desert is a great place to star gaze
Yellow, and now they have to make it back across the line on fuel. WHAT A JOKE
ooh, yeah.
apologies for it's shortness but a daily ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/daily-26th-june-2011
Finding every excuse you can to drive by White Sands?
very much so
Leader out of fuel
Shocking :)
Struggled to watch the end due to choppy feed but it seems they just can't finish a road course race properly.. worse than a touring car race with all the bumping and pushing off
This is unreal. a dozen cars out with a wreck, a dozen caution laps, and now the finishing order relies upon the cars making it back to the s/f.
this is so ridiculous
I remember at Boy Scout camp, with no ambient light, the sky looked like a piece of art. And in the summer, the star showers were rampant
:) i must now sleep/listen to coldplay i'll see ya'll for the race :) thank you for not getting mad at my coldplay love. Seeing them headline glasto is epic :) anyways... nighty night! enjoy IndyCar! x
'Oh, you ran out of fuel after we threw the last caution and froze the flag, so you don't get the place you were at when we threw the caution'
This is a total mess. NASCAR has a policy of not changing the result after the race but the leader passed under yellow. Something has to give
Night Lou
I'd be throwing things at the screen if I was a fan right now
Fireworks guys are all 'FINALLY! I've been holding the lit match for a half hour!'
getting a push from a teamate. that, at least, is classy
3rd degree burns on fingertips?
Imagine you are a driver who lifts off when you see a yellow and someone else just drives past you. Absolutely crazy.
If they allow this the next time they throw a yellow in this situation everyone is going to ignore it and someone could get killed
F1 stewards would be busy all night with a finish like this
which is exactly why they have those rules in place. On an oval, it's pretty easy to figure out who was where but this is absurd
Every time they mention Ron Fellows I think of that Tracy Morgan character on Saturday Night Live, Brian Fellows.
wrecker pushing and towing a car around the track, some bumping to JV (which he rightly deserves)
fistfights in the post-race?
Indycar, engines started
An outbreak of common sense in NASCAR
Thank God.
*not representative of the way most of us like our racing
max and JV gonna get into it
DAMN that kid is young. Wonder if he's got a proper DL
Indycar rolling
He looks like he's about 15.
Is there an Indy thread or are we just going to switch to Sunday's daily?
was just wondering the same thing
cool vortices coming off the rear wings
sweet the feed just jumped over
Can we move all Indycar comments into Sunday's daily so that we are all in the same place?
