Good morning, afternoon, evening and night and welcome to another Friday. It's been another odd week and it seems only fair that we go into the weekend with one last day, right? Well I'll help your day be a little bit better if I can because I've got plenty to share out today. First off, although he'll never see this yesterday Rubens celebrated his 14th wedding anniversary with his wife Silvana, congratulations to them! Fabulous achievement with hopefully many more anniversary's for them.
Paddock News
It's Like being a 90's Kid Again - Despite their really lovely testing livery of navy with a mix of navy in there too just to give it that navy look, Williams have finally unveiled their 2011 livery and I really like it. Really, really like it. for me it's a really nice mix of their modern look with the Rothmans' livery of old from the 90's that was very awesome. Does that mean we have 3 tobacco-related looks with teams now? Williams with their rothman's-alike, Lotus and the red bits/JPS disaster and Ferrari's utteely blatently Marlboro logo. Rules are a funny old thing! We've been talking about the launch here so if you fancy letting Sidepodcast know your thoughts on the new look comments are always welcome.
Bernie, Give me Style and give me grace, Bernie put a smile upon my face - As with most things in life I like to try and stay positive about things and Formula 1 is most certainly no exception. So just like in 2010 I thought I'd do my best to try and incite some positivity in the Formula 1 online community with you lovely people and try and help remember why we all love this sport and get you excited for the season ahead! Hopefully it works. Coz if it didn't I'll be sa... happy. I'll be happy if it doesn't work. Coz it's positive, like. Not sure how that works. Also my favourite side of a magnet is the positive side.
Elsewhere...
Once Upon a Time there was a genius called Will Wright... - Here's an interesting little article courtesy of Kotaku I found earlier this week. If you don't know of Will Wright, he is the man behind such genius as The Sims and Sim City, he's the chap who created Maxis. Nevertheless, he feels that videogames aren't the correct format to include story telling on in the same way movies do. What do we reckon, gang? I'm in agreement with the article writer here responding in disagreeing with his sentiments because a game can easily provoke the same emotions you find in a movie - Metal Gear Solid is a prime example of this in fact; even in The Sims you can find yourself having your own story to work with. Interetsing thoughts though.
What's on Your Shelf? - Earlier this week I discovered Shelfari, an online book shelf of everything you've read, want to read, want to buy, etc and I've found it a fantastic little resource in keeping myself up to date in what I want to read and what I've read in the past. As much as I love reading I'm always challenging myself to find new books to read but this resource is wonderful for finding new stuff and discussing some of your favourite books. You can find my profile on Shelfari here if you want to see how it works perhaps and I hope you become a friend on there soon! Plus I like the name.
A Whole Whoniverse in your very hands! - Hmmmmmm. Not sure about this one. In fact when reading this article I had this face the entire time. It looks like a free-to-play Doctor Who MMO is coming soon - MMO standing for massively multiplayer online - where I guess you will be able to explore the universe of Doctor Who and fight stuff off and do quests and stuff. The most famous example of an MMO is World of Warcraft and I'm not a big fan of this type of game, but it's Doctor Who so 'who' knows? I'm sure it will have better jokes than that.
And Finally
I'm going to close this week's daily with a personal favourite again in terms of a music performance. I know I tend not to shut up about Muse sometimes but I've tried not to bring them up as I know I never shut up about them. Nevertheless, I just wanted to share my absolute favourite performance from the band of my favourite Muse song, Fury. It's an incredible powerful, very bass-driven song that never actually appeared on any Muse albums outside of Japan (Bonus track for Absolution) but it's still such a good song and I love it to death. As for the performance, well, immaculate as ever. Plus you get to see Chris headbanging which is worth it in itself. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Have a good Friday, I'll see you next week.
Good stuff Lukeh. I have to disagree with Wright as well, the story narrative in strategy games like C&C was key to them working for me (well that and the multiplayer :D) even if the cutscenes were really cheesy, but in a good way.
Never heard that song before, amazing stuff, love it. Seen you talk about it before but never investigated. Oddly enough I had just finished listening to Knights of Cydonia while I was reading this post so it was very timely. :)
Oh my god, that was sooo much fun.
Must have been good, was wondering where the live comments had gone. :) Are you Bassano'd?
(I know you don't drink, but.... y'know)
Yeah, we were really enjoying the company. I met them at a great restaurant, then we went to a pub. They are on their way to their hotel.
Yeah, fully, in the best possible way. I just generally had such an amazing day with amazing people - Bassano and his friend and before that the 2 Czech guys who are friends of friends who are trying to help me out with connections and ideas.
Sounds good, must hear stories. :)
aww yay. did you get hugs?
Given and received! Aw.
w00t!
:)
excellent daily lukeh, we should check out shelfari too (even if it sounds like you made that name up yourself!).
We found a pub for locals and had wine, pilsner maybe? and sparkling water (guess who had what?) all for 7.50 pounds or so. Bassano can correct me if I'm wrong. We were saying that we didn't think they knew quite what to make of us.
That does look really good.
Ahh it was a Sidepodmeetup, I think we've found this happens a lot. :) :)
We were laughing quite a bit.
Good vibrations all!
I'm at work so I can't talk, but I read through the comments from yesterday, and saw the links to www.apple.com/macosx/lion but nobody mentioned that it includes the server stuff in the standard operating system now. Wow!
I'm very excited by the new stuff and the possibilities that Thunderbolt brings. Has anyone seen this Jackie Chan movie? :P
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolt_(1995_film)
Greetings from Clear Dark Tundraland.
One of these nights I should really head down to the lakeshore and find Drago the Dragon....
Tried to photograph Orion the other night but all I got was his belt.
Anyway, thought I added this to my addition to Sidepodspace....
Night all
More tomorrow.
but i'm the biggest geek i know, and i've never met a person running an apple server. they could come round and install it for me and i could still find a million reasons to use something else.
more fun tomorrow kai!
hey squire.
Glad you had a good time, night :)
Vague recollection of seeing at least a bit of it..
Goodnight..
Nite Pat.
blogging time can be hard to come by
Well I have finally added that Robert Kubica post to my website. www.jdkallen.wordpress.com if you have forgotten....
We could both say that about a lot of things :)
The point is that it's there for no charge. If you don't use it, who cares? If you do want to serve your own wiki or calendar, then yippee :)
PS. I've had a few small business customers with around 10 people find it perfect for their needs at significantly lower cost than Microsoft or Linux solutions.
So, anyway... We then found a bar and had an Urquel or 3
It was all a bit Pulp Fiction, no really, it was
And sleep may happen soon, maybe
For the record, Kai remained un-Bassano'd
[she's a rare breed]
shelfari! great! :-9 like the name too.
Same here. I guess not many of you are into the Grand Theft Auto series of games, but even though the storylines are mashed up plotlines of gangster/heist/action movies, you still feel like you are in a movie.
I've not played Heavy Rain, apart from the demo, but from that alone you definitely feel as if you are in a movie.
morning everyone,
anybody awake?
GTA is an amazing franchise - their music stations alone are brilliant.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that game. Genius from start to finish.
I am...
Interestingly the London Stock Exchange is a bit broken this morning.
Did people see this article on Circuit design on the BBC?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12499373
For about three years now surely?
heh...
...But specifically this morning nobody can trade anything.
I met Drew McDonald last year. Very, very interesting chap.
Some tech guy over there is having a very very bad morning.
Or a hangover
They've got a live incident report website. So many people are going in that the live incident report website has just gone down.
Must've been a mega party
oops: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/marketforceslive/2011/feb/25/stock-exchange-glitch-halts-trading
It is his first F1 collaboration and he hopes that his company, Populous, will be asked to modify or build other Grand Prix tracks, a niche area for now almost monopolised by Tilke Engineering.
easy, just give bernie all your profits and you can be the new monopoly :)
It's been a complete disaster...
The uncrossing trades that were under investigation are going to stand though.
A different stock market couldn't trade for a day the other day, the Italian Stock market... (interesting side point... The Italian Stock Market is run by... the LSE)
he did a great job on silverstone though - i did like the new section
oh dear. was it windows 7 service pack 1?
didn't really help overtaking did it? it was no better, but no worse i thought?
heh... I don't think so... It's this Milenium Project... You can tell that it's a bit behind schedule...
:)
Morning all.
Great daily, Lukeh. I sort of see Will Wright's point but I prefer games with some sort of narrative progression. Some games manage it without being entirely on rails – original Silent Hill springs to mind (haven't played any of the sequels). It had a few very different endings depending on how well you did at various points.
considering there never used to be any overtaking at silverstone and the new section provided a pretty good number of passes, i thought it was quite good
fair enough, my memory's no where near good enough to disagree :)
I didn't think much to the British Grand Prix this year. I do like the new section though and I think it will look really good this year!
quite telling in that it was the first section of an f1 track in a number of years that wasn't designed for f1 cars... maybe f1 should go to assen!!
good interview here by ubaid, with vicky chandhok: http://www.f1pulse.com/features/chandhok_sr_important_to_have_home_base_strong/features-track_talk-2011-february-features_track_talk20110225_126/track_talk_article.aspx
didn't realise the bahrain cancellation would affect preparation for the indian gp.
Seems quite rare nowadays for new circuits – or new sections of circuits – to turn out how the designers expected in race conditions.
Oooh!
Morning all.
Morning
Aye, but that's what I found odd - in that it wasn't designed with the GP in mind at all. When I was talking to the designer, he was telling about how the MotoGP bikes were the only consideration, especially in terms of the safety areas.
morning Christine
Morning Christine
Bleh. I find Companies House stuff very annoying. £15 and a whole lot of faff to tell 'em that nothing's changed.
Also find Amazon and the Home Delivery Network very annoying. I have an office to get to!
2010... much like 2009. tick.
:)
Gahhh - been trying to find out if indycar.com will continue to stream their races this year, but am being hit with the "details coming soon bit".
I hope they realise the first race is coming up in a few weeks...
:/
Hiya :)
Hello.
For a second I thought you meant electrical circuits. :)
Interesting that he's 34.
A deep and sincere "get well soon" to Poly Styrene. Absolute legend
http://www.nme.com/news/x-ray-spex/55155
I thought it helped overtaking but it was just a boring section to watch.
They will, I'm sure it has been promised, and they have no reason to take a step back.
Oh dear.
I have found over the years that the most interesting parts of circuits rarely produce overtaking
Busy morning. As well as Companies House stuff, have retaxed the bike. Now to organise a service.
You don't try to overtake into Eau Rouge if you want to live, for instance.
I suppose it is like the revised Hockenheim. It has passing but I often see people have a rant at it.
i've to buy a new one, albeit the peddling kind
exactly
Because it's soulless and it's not a patch on the old circuit?
Great interview!
I'd love to see what drive there is for national championship's, etc... I believe Korea may be trying to string some f3 races together outside the Int F3 race at the end of the year
There could definitely be a pan-asian series now.
Korea are tieing with Macau for an end-of-year double header. Was postponed until this year
they however need to do Korea before Macau, otherwise after no cars left in one piece to go to Korea :-)
korea is pencilled to be the week after macau......
hm ... one week to rebuild the cars and ship them over , the mechanics will love that :-)
costs mainly - they can't / won't stay for two weeks, but there not going to go back to their respective countries from macau, just to return to korea a week later
:D
I must add that the city of Darwin may be holding an International F3 race this year too
There's a whole FIA International Trophy, maybe they want in on that for next year
that's formula ford's though isn't it?
well that Boyo guy from Double R racing said on Windsor's show that F3 can pack up and go anywhere to do a race if some travel package for the circus can be worked out
Nope
true - looking forward to scarbs being back on it next week
I have a purring puss on my lap.
No claws on a sunny Friday morning I presume? Cats hate me
:/
are they telling you, you need to buy a new laptop?
Only to scratch at the door asking to come in. The self-closer is a bit too powerful for him to push against.
Poor lamb is recovering after being on the receiving end of a massive facepalm from his sister at breakfast this morning.
Oh dear
You have a lamb too?
Heh. Although in actual fact they find the laptop odious, for when in use it blocks a potential seating position.
I think I may hang on until the iMac is the statutory four years old and then upgrade it. Imagine the welly they'll have in Jan 2013!
I downloaded Aperture this morning from the App store.
I'm feeling very Melburnian right now. Hooray for rugby!
it's provider of heat though?
tis an absolute bargain. love the flickr integration too.
We're having a full-on rugby weekend. Off to see London Irish (hopefully) beat Harlequins tomorrow, then flying up to Edinburgh on Sunday because one of Mrs C's colleagues managed to blag a couple of tickets to Scotland v Ireland. I'm going to be a counterfeit Paddy for the day.
Only if they sat on it while it was in operation!
I just couldn't get on with the previous way of doing things. The Canon software would just dump it in folders by date, and I found Adobe Bridge cumbersome and unfriendly when editing – even just the basic stuff like seeing if a picture was soft or not. Aperture is so much better. Haven't tried any adjustments yet, though.
...because one of Mrs C's colleagues managed to blag a couple of tickets to Scotland v Ireland...
{cough} C'mon Ireland {cough}
Package is here!
Panasonic DMC-TZ8. We're retiring the old compact (a 2004-vintage Sony Cybershot) because it has some grot trapped in the lens mechanism or the sensor – manifests itself as blobs on photographs.
yay for lumix!
the presets are pretty handy too. worth having a play around when you have time. set aside about three days :)
Joe talking about the IndyCar/Las Vegas offer.
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/02/25/one-for-the-nearly-men-of-f1/
Scott Speed has shouted out his interest already, but Bourdais I never considered...
I've got an older one and I think they are great. Play with the different modes - you can use them to hack your camera. For example, the long exposure mode is great for taking pics of moving objects at night: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rubbergoat/5090290500/in/set-72157625058481061/
I have a scarf! I've never had a scarf before. I almost feel like now I should be a hooligan.
Oooh! Fab pic.
I need to start using Flickr again. Editing photos under my previous system became such a drag that I just didn't bother working on them. I've got about 2 years of photos just sitting in dated folders. It's been an interesting voyage of discovery importing them into Aperture.
Unfortunately, though, now that the parcel's arrived I must away to Lord Heseltine's offices...
Thanks man - there's a couple of others in that album like that. I love playing with the camera just to see what comes out of it.
Yeah it seems to take ages - that's why my holiday pics aren't up yet!
I thought Seb was linked to Conquest for a few road/street races which would make him ineligible I think.
Marshall Pruett has something from Randy Bernard tonight.
Dreyer & Reinbold. Nothing signed yet apparently and it's gotten very quiet on that front in recent weeks
Oooh: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/02/25/earning-the-right-to-comment/
Ah
Interesting!
Interesting idea, but no one's going to buy GP+ just to comment on Joe's site
I reckon! I think it's a great idea though - the blog remains free but you have to subscribe to the magazine if you wish to contribute.
I'd love to see how that works - Joe may miss the trollish comments though ;)
Maybe his aim is to reduce the trolling so he can spend more time writing though?
Could you please please please ask him about this in the next Aside?
there is that
I'll set up a 2011 page on the wiki.
wow
Done: http://sidepodcastwiki.com/Questions_for_Joe
Got two already. Just finished reading the Saboteurs book while on holiday - was a cracking read!
Fabulous!
Apparently Adam Parr has said that Williams would have boycotted Bahrain: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89639
I'm not sure they would have though, right? Don't you get a big fine for not turning up these days?
I reckon Will is exactly right. Every form of media can support certain stories, but every medium is different, thus being better-suited to different sorts of stories. There is overlap (and this is where games like Metal Gear Solid come in) but the most important difference for this particular comparison is that video games are generally better at non-linear stories and movies are generally better at strictly linear ones. There have been attempts to subvert this in both directions, but these have tended to be unsatisfactory - non-linear films tend to be confusing and/or require a certain amount of luck and/or months of patience to see the alternate versions and linear games tend to be condemned for being overly repetitive.
Other factors (such as the increased need for mainstream appeal to make a film pay for itself) come into play as well. There are some things that are simply easier to code into a game than play out in a film, and vice versa. Some stories can be told well in both media, but there are some that really require one medium or the other.
nope, but it offers more value to those who do pay.
the only issue i have, is some of joe's best thoughts come from his comments. i read his replies as much as the posts.
There wouldn't have been a fine if all the teams did it, I'm sure of it.
@JensonButton making easy work of the treadmill at MTC today - all part of the filming for Mobil 1's The Grid
http://twitpic.com/43jwzd
the grid?
he's run out of people who'll talk to him already...
http://twitter.com/ScarbsF1/status/41078220388450304
true i suppose
nope - scarbs said weeks ago that he'd do it again around the last test, same with rinland
2011 could be the year of paid content. it's interesting to watch.
and they'd have been bumped if someone better was available, i'm sure.
to be honest, if you can ignore windsor, the guests on the show have been quality - certainly no one else around is scoring the variety of guests
i can't.
fair enough, but i watch it for the guests on it - windsor i can take
Shelfari, eh? I am investigating.
Bit harsh - I just heard the one where he was scheduled to interview John Booth (the Manor guy) and he surprised Peter with Timo and Jerome...
really? ;)
We wouldn't have guessed :)
Karun and Anthony Hieatt were good the only night too
Agreed, when he's trying to explain things to people who've read guff elsewhere.. he's effectively shutting them out which doesn't necessarily raise the quality of the knowledge base. I'm in two minds though because the comments section does need a clear up and less of a slanging match sometimes.
This makes me feel awkward. I appreciate that Joe is trying to cut down on the bad comments, but I get the impression that quite a few of the comments he considers bad are simply people disagreeing with him. If that's the case, then (effectively) charging for comments is unlikely to help. It'll take out the genuine trolls (along with those who can't justify buying GP+) but not the people who disagree with Joe on topics he is sensitive about...
I'm a bit behind but I have enjoyed the show so far - it's a little rough around the edges but it's interesting.
I'm enjoying the new black shirts. much much nicer. Look better than the grey on JB too.
With insurance as it was, Williams would have had no choice but to withdraw - and the FIA would have had no choice under Concorde but to exclude it (not just fine it) for doing so...
Aye - technically, they do have some issues
Awww, I really liked the grey jumpers.
It's a TV show on Motors sponsored by Mobil 1. It's also gotr web video too.
I see.
Chances are comments will be readable: you'd probably just have to put in a subscriber number or something after your e-mail in the comment box when commenting (and then the system at Joe's end could check the two tallied on his "current subscriber" database).
i clearly need a t-shirt to raise awareness.
Peter who?
never heard of it, must investigate.
It's a tricky issue. It depends what his aims are.
far to subtle.
Aw no the grey jumpers looks sooooooo nice and warm, but i wasn't a fan of the silvery/grey shirts (or where they white?). the black looks much nicer!
decent - nowt in depth, but a quick watch
The silver shirt is an odd one to wear!
ohh i've missed that!! *investigates*
I Spent Millions Setting Up A Formula 1 Team Which I Mismanaged Into The Ground and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt.. And Some Toast
the toast could be problematic - hrt couldn't afford a driver seat, so they borrowed the bread instead as a makeshift
hehehe!
and it's pretty good (IMO). I like that they cover a lot of racing series.
Not as good as "The Flying Lap" of course, but then again, what is?
;)
I will moderate you, you crazy fool. And I will change the subject. Have update the calendar with these test adjustments: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89641
@PlanetLeMans tweeted a few days ago, there's GT Open testing at BCN earlier that week, could be partly why F1 was moved although you'd think F1 would have priority..
Did you see Spa LMS/ILMC has moved to Saturday 6th from Sunday 7th?
Oh that might April or May, can't remember :)
People need to stop moving things :)
Whoever booked up first has priority unless F1 wanted to make a nice donation to get priority
*puts the F1 calendar down*
Hehe :)
Yes. Bit of a nuisance in one way, but at least I won't have to miss as much of the race this year as last time (and somehow I doubt I will be helped out in not missing much action by conveniently-timed power cuts this year!)
May. Definitely May. I've had to write it down too many times for the benefit of my fellow forumites to forget that one...
#nopolitics, but this did make me laugh
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-12571666
That's hilarious :D
Hiya guys
hi lukeh
how are you today?
Not bad cheers although i have just cut myself right on my adams apple. Stupid shaving
How are you leigh, and all?
Not too bad - relaxed. Not much going down right now
Hello
Same here, most other people have left for the day, a nice wind down to the week. :)
I see Ireland ran Bangladesh close in the cricket
(he says, previously unaware Ireland had a cricket team)
Only the rich kids in a town near the east coast of dublin - everyone else looks at them strangely
;)
hehe, what timing :) they never, ever, ever play Fury. It's really rare and the stupid thing was when they did this gig for a charity I had a chance to get tickets but I turned them down because I was worried about getting to Royal Albert Hall. A year later, on the Sidepodmeetup, we walked past it and I remember telling Lou how easy it was to actually find! You live and learn :)
Also agreement with Journeyer regarding Heavy Rain. Stunning game, albeit ridiculously depressing. You can actually find a 3 hour video of the game being played as if it were a movie on Youtube now.
:)
I'm liking the new Williams caps
http://www.attwilliamscollection.com/p-93-att-williams-2011-barrichello-drivers-cap.aspx
That's good. The two polo shirts are pretty good too, not too overloaded with sponsors (unlike the back of the team shirt and t-shirt).
Nice and simple, and a nice mix of the colours :)
Hello all, I have fish & chips from the chippy for tea :)
A bit bored, to be honest. Just visited Grandma and realised I have nothing else to do for the rest of the day...
Yum!
Do we know which of our fantastic Antipodean daily writers is on duty tomorrow? I have a link I would like included if possible.
ooh, Mark Webber is on Top Gear on Sunday apparently.
erm... not sure, christine will know though. should be around once i drag her away form the kitchen.
Proton posts RM60.1m net loss in 3Q, weighed by Lotus Group, branding costs
PROTON HOLDINGS BHD posted a net loss of RM60.1 million in the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 compared to net profit of RM79.68 million a year ago, due mainly to higher branding costs as well as the restructuring expenses incurred by Lotus Group International Ltd (LGIL).
http://www.theedgemalaysia.com/business/182293-proton-posts-rm601-net-loss-in-3q.html
So basically, Proton has spent a fortune in not doing the sensible thing of backing the team they were already backing?
part of it will be the marketing for the new cars. but yeah.
Evening
Kai is at a recital or something. Have come back to our hotel to drop off stuff, defrost and then prep for a night o festivities
How are we all?
OK, thank you. Currently having a discussion with a friend on Twitter which has wandered from Bengaluru to Splatt (and yes, they're both place names).
warmer than yourself it would seem :)
That is a fair assumption :)
Prague is beau-ti-ful. Can't recommend it enough
We went to to a Botel
It was a boat hotel, genius.
[their word, not mine]
:)
Ping: http://www.f1bigpicture.com/news/handed-to-them-on-a-plate
I think it's me so link away :)
I tried to write it before I went to sleep but nothing flowed despite thinking about it all week! Expect a mish mash :)
ohh yay. any space for thunderbolt? it's gonna revolutionise sidepodcast (one day).
I am so glad that I am not rich or famous. That is a snack!
I am going to mention the new machines, but didn't want to go into too much nerdy nerdy detail. But now I have permission... :)
it's sidepod-relevant. although the cables are still limited to 3 meters until the cost of optical comes down. am keen to stick noisy machines in the shed :)
you'd be like oliver. can i have some more please frank?
evening folks,
battery fixed and thus my mac is back where it belongs
:)
Michael Caines? Hope they don't blow the oven doors off.
Yo people.
Thanks Jeremy. It's just a post I wrote a year ago tomorrow and I think it is still relevant. Have a read & decide if you want to include it http://sidepodcast.com/post/the-best-gift-is-the-one-you-give
It worries me that you can't really tell what it is.
omg. how have i forgotten about all these brilliant posts from last year? thank you janna ♥
I pity the Ginetta G50 driver called Michael Caine - he must really get it in the neck
salmon?
A year! I had an idea back then and didn't follow through. Thank you so much.
I will get ready for work early, drive there and then finish my daily before I start work. I will send the email between 11 and 11:30 pm UK time.
:) :)
phew! did they have any new ones in store?
Maybe. And what looks like an ice cube.
we've delayed tonights planned podcast due to... overeating, but if anyone fancies leaving a voicemail about anything, the number is +44 121 28 87225.
thoughts on testing would be much appreciated.
My stores got stock mid afternoon yesterday of the 13 inch with the 15 expected Monday. Not sure about the 17 yet.
Evening all
Looks like some kind of jelly thing
there's a 13 with my name on somewhere in the world... if i get my way :)
I wonder if any UK stores will price match an Australian store? :P I'll get you a quote...
Given what we were saying before about the jump from 13 to 15, the 17 must be a billion dollars? :)
Depends on the exchange rate and which era of Dr. Evil you are mimicking :)
17 is way too big. i read today though that the new laptops are faster than some of the pro tower machines.
...
...
i read the benchmarks and still can't believe that's possible.
Hehehe!
this is what happens when we cover nascar:
http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/we-should-maybe-think-about-more-nascar-cover
mighta been a popular race or something.
woah!
i had no idea. was just working on something else and wondered what happened. what's more amazing... mediatemple didn't crash.
Am just making sure.. have people remembered i can't do Sunday's daily? I mentioned it in my last daily.. i was wondering if anyone was okay to cover me?
I don't think I've seen it mentioned. Although am happy to cover if no one else wants to volunteer?
no worries lou. we'd have remembered about 1:30am :)
are you going anywhere nice?
Incredible spike of traffic though, mediatemple's extra strong selotape was tested well :)
rumours they invested in bassano's speed tape remain unfounded.

An Update is Available For Your Computer!
http://thenextweb.com/apple/2011/02/25/an-update-is-available-for-your-computer/
so true :)
thank you. Am a bit nervous. I hope it's okay for me to ask someone to cover for that reason? would loooovvee to be going somewhere nice.. however the furthest i'll be going is my uni kitchen to get a cup of tea :)
I'm sure someone will step in no problem, you're uni work is much more important with such a deadline on Monday. Like I say, if no one volunteers in the comments I'm more than happy to cover.
Mental that they set it at 9:30 though. Our deadlines were at the end of a working day for that deadline date, so 5/6pm.
of course, daily posts aren't obligatory, we appreciate everyone who writes one, but stop anytime. every daily that christine doesn't write is a holiday, she's happy to write anytime.
also, we're not taking the blame if you don't pass whatever it is you're doing :)
Friday Night Dinner has just started on channel 4 and tasmin greig doesn;t have short hair in it. She always has short hair! Mind = blown.
You won't? Aww.
haha no ours are always 9:30 - 10:30.. as we have to put work on the wall etc. Reviews generally start at 11:30 of the work.. although my review is tuesday. So i have to get up super early, submit my work to my tutor, let him check it.. then come back the following day for my review.
hehehe if i don't pass my photography unit i wont be blaming you. i'll be blaming my skills so i wouldn't worry! :)
ahh yeah, I remember your previous review now..
I hear it's going to be compulsory for universities to add 'Failure to pass this module can not result in blame being placed on Sidepodcast for any reason' soon to the assignments smallprint.
!!!
well, if you can't ever get a job, you can always work for spc i guess. if you don't mind volunteer work... forever?
Will work for Milky Bars.
The girls and i are taking this as our 3rd to last review of the semester... it's too painful to think of it as the first of the semester. They drag on all day and are so scary!
one day we'll make the bart simpson blackboard :)
Least this time next week the reviews and assignment will be over :)
Oooh, I'll pass.
motivation :)
heheh till our next reviews in 6-8 weeks! :D hehe ahhhh uni you stressful but awesome place.

Wha.... amazingness!
Blimey. Be interesting to compare that to F1 figures.
:D
and the bit in the simpsons intro in front of the tv, can be replaced by christine behind a microphone, and a hand waving from off screen.
remind me after the first race. would be a fair comparison.
:D
people really do start a twitter account for just about anything these days :)
@hipsterIE6: Some people say I'm vulnerable. I prefer to say I'm open-minded.

Awesome! :D
That loaded so slowly it reminded me of dialup.
i wonder where that beer coaster.... i mean freeserve cd is now? landfill probably.
And I couldn't stop laughing when it did. Sooo true....
Crumbs... I think we've got some of them knocking around somewhere. Freeserve was our first foray into the interweb, then Wanadoo introduced us to 2Mb broadband, then Orange introduced us to rubbish 2Mb broadband.
hey don't laugh. they brought fidonet back in egypt the other week.

R.E.T.R.O.
Can somebody explain, further down this page, what "hi-performance multiplayer games" is meant to imply when it's a dial-up connection?
http://echannel.www.demon.net/helpdesk/technicallibrary/businessisdn/numbers/
Maybe it means Micro Machines for the megadrive.
I think my head just exploded...
or microsoft hearts
That game infuriates me more than Solitaire.
Oh boy, before I go on a ranting spree about all things Microsoft-like I hate I should turn in. G'night!
(should stop by more often. I'll make an effort this weekend, promise. ;))
