Hey there folks! Hope you are having a great week. I have been busy, and Copenhagen is pretty quiet right now because they have closed off all the roads in the city centre to hold some sort of bike race – I went out to see it yesterday but it was a bit meh. A police bike, a cyclist and then a station wagon barking orders at the cyclist. Then nothing for a while, then repeat!
But on Sunday I will visit a friend’s house to watch the proper part of the cycle race. Also this weekend I am going to a Kiwi pub to watch the All Blacks play France and go to a friend’s daughter’s first birthday party. So, much to look forward to!

- It’s Rankings day, so best start with some choice links from the Driver and Team Rankings, eh?
- There was a very interesting Debrief the other day – go check it out…
- Christine has released a new book, while the content should be familiar to most of you ;)
- I found a new online magazine called Professional MotorSport World – it looks interesting and Joe Saward and David Tremayne are involved too…
- The Goodwood Revival was last weekend, with Pat, Lara and Lynch posting some great pics. BBC had a great photo tribute to Fangio too…
- Speaking of the end of an era, BadgerGP has the last ever POP column written by Tess Tarossa. Never fear though, it will continue with a new writer. She’s written a great send off with her favourite moments!
- RookieF1 has written another great post on F1 Bromances.
- Valentino Rossi is claiming his woes are down to his seating position – brings a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘annus horribilus’ :)
- Toby Moody has a great column on why they are not winning anymore. I do hope Vale is back on top in 2012!
- Manipe has a great roundup of his weekend. Glad he managed OK considering his gear got stolen – and it wasn’t really his fault either because they opened his car boot!
- I found a video of Tom Cruise driving the Red Bull if you haven’t seen it already.
- This video of a bike race at Hock-in-half will make you gasp. Make sure you are sitting down for this one!
- EADS have turned the amp up to 11 with 3D printing – but would you fly in an Airbus A380 knowing that some of the parts were made that way?
- Have you ever wondered what a Caveman’s Swiss Army Knife would have looked like…?
- …or what Twitter’s first homepage looked like…?
- …or what the best views out of an airplane window looked like? Well wonder no more!
So that’s all from me. Here are some F1 movie posters for you – will Sebastian Vettel get his Hollywood ending in Singapore this weekend?
See you in the comments :)
Hi Wednesday. Ta for the link to the photos. :)
Game scores ping - http://toomuchracing.com/2011/09/21/tmr-game-2011-week-35/
I'm looking forward to some time off work. Will write up Goodwood after a sleep.
its my last day at work pre Singapore so I'm browsing Hockenheim tickets. Because thats working hard.
hmm, rather than pay $1500 for a one way flight to Frankfurt, maybe I should pay $500 for a one way flight to London with Air Tony then fly to Frankfurt from there.
I think I could cope flying Air Tony all that way if it meant a saving of a grand.
It is definitely worth the detour
it also involves arriving a few days earlier. Oh Bassaaaaanoooooo....
:D
I think its a great idea because then I could fly to Germany with Bassano* :D
*and anyone else who wants to get on board Sidepockenheim. Get involved people, commitments needed by early 2012 to guarantee seating together ;)
No Hockenhiem for me, but I'd better be in Austin!
Well, it has been proven that the worst view out of the cockpit window of an airplane is that of an oncoming mountain goat in a cloud bank..... :p
i am seriously considering the race but we'll have to see
Morning all
My life is now complete - I just heard someone utter the words "wow, I really love the speed dial on this phone..."
He was not being ironic.
so, BA lost Heikki's luggage and golf clubs, he says he chose them only because it was direct flight
how in 21st century does an airline manage to lose luggage on direct flight is beyond me (although it did happen to me once too ...)
The word you (and Heikki) may be looking for is "incompetence"
How well do you know your Formula 1 history?
The book That'll be the Day: 365 F1 Stories takes a look at significant moments or quirky happenings on this day in Grand Prix history. Can you guess what event the following describes?
Morning all
Have we seen the new BBC homepage beta? http://beta.bbc.co.uk/
Reminds me of stuff like Engadget.
On first viewing, I'm not really a fan. Can't really say why though, it just doesn't work for me.
Morning by the way
:)
bloggy wordpressy look ...
#IndyCar
Slightly sad situation for Penske. Looks like they might be shrinking his team to a two-car effort and the driver to lose out may be Ryan Briscoe.
Despite the fact Briscoe is doing well in the championship, he's not quite as marketable or sponsor-friendly as Helio Castroneves who, quite frankly, is having a hellish (or just plain awful) season.
If one of the big teams not just in IndyCar, but in US racing as a whole, is struggling with sponsorship, then it does not bode awfully well for some of the other competitors.
It may also - for now - leave a quality driver on the sidelines...
especially when Catherines luggage made it unscathed and they no doubt checked in together
Hi guys,
Just got my new iPad, and the first things I bought on it were your 2 books! They're awesome!
Morning Amy / Simon,
How are you both today?
goooood. I leave for Singapore in 15 hours, I am considering starting to pack :)
I am leaving in about 36 hours, online check-in completed this morning
I did mine yesterday, I have never checked in online with Singapore Air before, all very exciting :D This'll be my first trip on the upper deck of the A380 :)
I will have to do with A330 :-)
mmm, yes the A380 might be overkill for the length of your journey :)
Oooohhh very nice. I do believe Mr Frentzen is your (driver) steward this weekend
not really, Singapore Airlines fly A380 on this route. But I am Cathay Pacific loyalist and they do not have A380s yet :-)
ahh, fair enough then :)
Sweet. Motorsport Magazine has uploaded its Goodwood Revival podcast
http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/2011/09/21/2011-goodwood-revival-podcast/
Good thanks. Although jealous of both Amy and my friend Tree as she is going to Japan. (although she does work out there so...
you?
Not too bad. A bit tired and ill, but it could be worse.
Rubbish :(
I watched the Graham Hill Docu yesterday, enjoyed that - and learnt a lot
It is a very good documentary
I wonder if I could get into F1 by volunteering to be a part-time mechanic???
I am afraid it is not that simple. same as the racing drivers have to climb the ladder from karting through Formula This and Formula That it probably is similar with any other F1 job ...
Too many ads at the top of the page
Joe writes on Lotus and simulators
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/lotus-renault-gp-gets-new-simulation-centre/
I think you're confused - that article is about Renault :P
Ughhhh... my head....
Haha, one of my friends companies has got a load of tickets for yas and attendance for all the sessions is mandatory for the management.
He hates it, its brilliant!
Gah !!
Red Bull have broken the ban on in-season testing! I knew there was something funny about that car!
http://community.redbullracing.com/newsletter/read/16/
Forced to watch F1, the poor little petal :D
We just saw this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didi_Senft
and a Kiwi called Jack Bauer is racing later!
Does anyone remember the name of the website where if you get a new PC it reccomends software for you and makes up a downloadable package for you?
why can't I be bothered packing, this is not like me :D
That man is a legend
I'm having an amazingly lazy day today.
You may have guessed that I felt a kindred spirit when leafing through the highlights of POPs as signposted in the Daily when I found this:-
PITS. Kimi Raikkonen withdrawal symptoms
I recognise the symptoms... and the latest from the Finnish media is that no more F1 for Kimi but the Daytona and Indy 500s plus Le Mans are possibilities...
Let's just say I am putting the dates in my diary now...
Nonsense peddling once again.
"Drawing the Curtains" http://wp.me/pSi0N-1fU
I still haven't started packing and its 7 hours until I need to leave :D
have they? because all I see is "this is a test" under the header ;)
of which I now just got... GRR.
No problem Amy :)
heheh I will sit on it a bit longer, it's a long way to go on a budget airline :D
Managed to catch the end of the UCI World Champs Time Trial race on my way home today: http://www.copenhagen2011.dk/index.php?p=nyheder/profil.php&nyhed=89
I saw the top 3 - Wiggins, Cancellara & Martin. Loads of people cheering them on!
Nice
the UCI Track World Champs are in Melbourne next April and I'm pondering going since getting cycling tickets at the Olympics is pretty much impossible and I would like to see my old neighbour competing :)
Singapore DRS zone will be between turns 5 and 7, through 6 which isn't really a corner to my mind.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94692
Well, it's been a lot of hassle and to be honest, not much to see.
yeah road cycling doesnt interest me as much as the velodrome
I'm seeing the bike race part on Sunday - I think that will be a lot more interesting.
I believe it is Lifehacker.
How can I apply? :D
Oh, now I know what you mean! Lemme try to find it.
with 4 hours til alarm time I should be packing or sleeping but instead I'm painting my nails Team Lotus green :D
It's Ninite: http://ninite.com/
Enjoy a little something from the Sidepodcast back catalogue.

That's the one! :D How'd you find it?
My brain decided to cooperate.
Ninny - Nimian - Ninnin ... Ninite!
aw, the fanvision lady misses me :D
@amyfulton have a good flight! I guess we won't see you because you don't have to pick up a rental anymore :(
Hmmm. I don't think this straight needs a DRS for good passing. They should've looked at putting the DRS on the front straight or on the Esplanade Bridge.
Awww! I'm touched. :P :D
http://www.grandprix.com/columns/maurice-hamilton/spirit-of-goodwood.html?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=grandprixdotcom
Nice write up by Maurice on the Revival! wonder what cars with roll bars he was talking about ?? Everyone should try and make it one year! ... shame some of the spectators didn't bother to dress 1/2 decent.. (saw quite a few hoodies and trackies) which was disappointing.. certainly different to what it once was.. no F1 drivers either.. i remember DC and Hill being there! Also would like to see less of the crowd that just go there just to dress up and be seen.. ie. the ones that don't even bother watching the racing....
Hi all.
I had a quick scan through the comments and was laughing at BA losing Heikki's luggage and not Catherine's. A few years ago a dozen of us had a job in Switzerland. Every few weeks a dozen of us would check in together at Glasgow and fly to Heathrow then on to Geneva. Every single time 4 or 5 lots of luggage would go missing. We got to the stage where we all carried completed photocopies of the Swiss form to get luggage sent on and to claim the freebies on offer.
Not once did they ever get all the bags through in either direction.
Evening folks,
Just in the door
It's something that happens a lot with historic cars. I am not convinced adding a roll hoop to a car that was designed without one makes it a great deal safer.
Hi Leigh.
I just got here too
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but this month's MotorSport podcast from the Goodwood Revival is a real treat.
http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/2011/09/21/2011-goodwood-revival-podcast/
It is very, very good.
I wonder why Merzario decided he can't speak English. Most odd
Having a laugh?
I did discover an interesting fact about Merzario last night.
1hr 17mins! thats longer than a Debrief! i'll listen tomorrow maybe...
Ha.. Berger in his A & F Tee shirt! wheres the period dress Gerhard! Good to see the inside of the driver area though! :-|
He's got a very story about him, Alesi and Todt's Lancia
;)
I have no idea. Cheever said he is a senator now so maybe he wanted to be absolutely correct in what he said for political reasons
Go on
He is last driver to make his F1 debut with Ferrari. Back in 1972
I didn't even notice that.
:D
Didn't know that. I don't know a lot about him beyond his involvement in the Lauda crash and his sportscar record. And the black Stetson
Probably the 60s F1 or something.
I didn't dress especially other than a brown jumper which can pass for being older than it is. To be honest I was surprised at how many people did dress for it.
I was disappointed most of the 'names' raced on Saturday not Sunday. I suppose Sunday gets the bigger crowd so they do that to get more to come on Saturday.
That is unusual. Normally at the Festival Sunday gets the bigger names
There was a good scattering of them on Sunday, it was the touring car race and another one I think, where the famous drivers raced one day and the car owners (or their usual drivers) the next day.
I guess it is only reasonable that the guys who pay the bills get to drive on the big day
So, REM have split up. Can't say I'm awfully disappointed to be honest. Their heyday past a couple of decades ago.
I had no idea they still existed. I thought they had gone years ago
Who?
Dinosaur rock band who went long passed their sell by date.
I guess, so did many. They still sold huge and had mammoth tours, but their last few albums all sank below the cracks.
Sadly Michael Stipe will be releasing solo material soon.
;)
I'm with Steven, I thought they were done a long time ago.
I saw them live twice in the past 8 years or so, very very good, but yeah they should be one of those bands who only tours to play their old stuff.
The rest of the time doing solo stuff or whatever
They should have finished when Bill Berry had his brain tumour. They were a shadow of their former selves thereafter
Why are new posts not being pinged?
http://sidepodcast.com/post/singapore-2011-race-information
apologies.
christine and i have called time on daily comments. aside from checking occasionally for comments on other threads we just don't have time to contribute to the discussion any more.
every page except realtime pops up a notification of new posts and twitter and facebook auto-ping updates too.
It seems odd to go to all the trouble of writing a post and not plugging it in the daily where most comments are.
I totally missed the rankings posts yesterday and it was just luck that I checked twitter just as the latest post appeared
Evening :)
Only 1 proper day at work left. Awesome!
Then the big move
less commenting = more time to write posts.
and on that note, must dash.
I understand that but pinging in the daily is hardly going to use up a lot of time
Don't start! I'm so so unprepared!
You need Amy planning
Amy would have a fit!
If comments are being actively encouraged to die I shan't spend a lot of time or thought on tomorrow's Daily.
:D
I would love to say something about this but I am not going through that whole conversation again
Neither am I but I wanted to state why it isn't going to be very big up front.
Fair enough
Actively encouraged is not accurate.
If you're not keen on writing the daily, we're more than happy to take it back.
I think the issue is that people get mixed messages from you two.
Privately..?
Non-works car
Is it that mixed?
We wrote a post suggesting the daily was fading fast and that we wanted to replace it. This was shot down so we said we'd leave it and see if things got better.
They don't appear to have to me, so we're spending time on other things and still... just waiting to see what happens.
So, the same as his current entry. I don't get it. He's not a works driver anyway.
It's odd
Wooooooooooow... new facebook is absolutely mental and almost unusable. evening all!
That's fair
There is a new facebook?
Mehhh - not a fan of it anyway.
I reckon they do it on purpose.
They changed the main feed with... whatever it is now. A mixture of top stories, and stuff from earlier in the day, and a live ticker of people's conversations. I think a #MFC mess sums it up nicely :)
Plus the smart lists are giving me a jolly good chuckle. I've got about 120 or so friends on my list, and I've say about 20 of them are from iceland, but the smart list has decided to randomly make a brand new list of people who work at iceland... with just the one person. Very smart :D
Awww I tried to join Shelfari after reading Christine's recent post about it but I can't mae it link my kindle purchases to the account.... :(
Sounds like a disaster
I don't really understand why we need to know EVERYTHING our friends do now but then again, I don't understand bookface
Meh.. fbook... the only bit i sort of like is new new look groups... ish... maybe "SP Comments" should move to a "social network" ?? G+ ??
They seem to be making a lot of changes in a short space of time as a kneejerk reaction to google plus and that is just asking for trouble
Christine has a lot to answer for. I can't stop buying books.
Also Nick can have some blame too.
What are you buying?
I did bad this time. 4.30am bedtime hurts when the 7am alarm comes around #airporttime
I bought Christine's new book. Then also I was poking around on Shelfari and I've also managed to buy another 3 books to read....
You can sleep all day in Singapore
I thought you had bought a dozen
I don't arrive til the day is practically over. And being on European time leaves no time for shopping!
4 books!! I already have a load on my kindle I haven't got round to reading yet. Very naughty. I'm busy plowing through a trashy crime novel, I shouldn't be buying anything!
story of my life.
Good way to save money
but such a waste of the excess space I'm taking. I mean, checked baggage, that's so unlike me
#sidepodspace
esa are launching an Ariane 5 rocket with a couple of communications satellites in 5 minutes
http://spaceflightnow.com/ariane/va204/status.html
A bit different to NASA. Went on the first second of an hour and a half window
Really? I kinda like the changes, actually. Facebook just decided to be a little more like... Google+.
Hi everyone.
