Let's start the week with a bang. Formula 1 is Singapore bound, as the travelling carnival prepares for the sport's solo night race. Despite being a relative newcomer to the F1 season, this is already one of my favourite events. This year, organisers have lined up Shakira, Linkin Park and Shaggy concerts throughout the weekend. I'm sold!

Big Audio Dynamite

To tide you over until then, we found a spare five minutes to look back at the previous Grand Prix in Monza and break it down F1 Debrief style.

Amongst other things, we discuss why Italy is more dodgy than Brazil, dance to Jaime's banging tunes, watch Luca's random appearances and rue Rosberg's missed opportunity. Be sure to listen in.

Pulp Fiction

Christine launched her brand new ebook on an unsuspecting world today. Between the Lines (Formula Primo Confidential) follows on from the sucessful release of two F1 books earlier this year and marks the girl's first foray into the world of fiction.

Available on the Amazon Kindle (and its associated apps and devices), you can download a free sample right now. I'm sure Christine will be keen to hear your feedback and more.

Comin' To Your City

I have in recent past had cause to complain about the half-arsed efforts the BBC put into some of their F1 coverage - notably their current obsession with the cheap looking opening montage, coupled with melodramatic voiceover, the kind of thing an intern could knock up in an afternoon.

The following ESPN opening clip for College GameDay caught my eye this week, and I'm thinking BeebSkyBeeb could learn a thing or two before next season. Country music duo Big and Rich wrote the theme, but it's the effort that's gone into the visuals that appeals to me.

No question, F1 coverage needs more street parades and pom poms.

That ought to be enough to get the week started, we'll see you in the (Facebook) comments.

How well do you know your Formula 1 history?

The book That'll be the Day: 365 F1 Stories takes a look at significant moments or quirky happenings on this day in Grand Prix history. Can you guess what event the following describes?

    - Which British driver was born on this day in 1946, right next door to the Donington Park circuit?

I remember last year everyone telling me the forecast was so rainy that clearly the race would be a washout. Yeah, it rains every day in Singapore but its 99% of the time before I even wake up in the morning. I've only been rained on once both times I've been there.

I was actually planning to stay there when I went for the first Sing GP but that year the hotel prices were totally ridiculous, Monagesque one could say. so to save money we picked up Shangri-La resort on Sentosa, which was about half the price of any downtown hotels. and since then never went to another hotel in Singapore :-)

ahh yes, 2008 I stayed in a backpackers because I'd still be paying a hotel off now. With the Ibis last year and the Pan Pacific this year I'd hate to think what I'd try upgrade to next time I go. I think it'll be back to the Ibis in reality land :D

maybe they googled you and decided to play it safe :)

I think Pamela booked the better room since she booked after I did and the slightly cheaper non balcony rooms had been snapped up. By asking them to combine our bookings into the same room they appear to have upgraded one of them rather than downgraded the other. 10 points for customer service.

    Afternoon all

Think I'm gonna get one for my birthday.

Any thoughts on which brand yet? Don't exclude the Micro 4/3 format either

Ah, Mr C beat me two it. I like the Olympus Pen series too

What's Micro 4/3? Thinking a Canon, cause my mates have them, they feel easy to use and the pics come out good.

That Lumix Mr C linked is one. Smaller than DSLR but with interchangeable lenses. A good in-between size if you don't want to lug a large camera around

  • RubberGoat19/09/2011 at 14:14

I'm reading about it on Wikipedia now. Interesting idea.

our little Lumix took these pics: http://sidepodcast.com/post/the-beautiful-south

but a changeable lens for that would be heaven. which is what the GF3 essentially is.

speaking of photos, now that I've decided to perhaps use this Tumblr thing since Posterous has gotten all stupid and stuff, I think sharing the multitude of photos of my meals is in order because food rules. So here is the first one :D

Next step, finding a tumblr theme. Way too tired for that at the moment though :D

If your mates can lend you lenses when you need 'em, it's not a bad avenue. Personally, I think the Nikons are better value at the entry level.

    which model?

  • Mr C19/09/2011 at 14:25

didn't know sony did 4/3rds. canon are being left behind.

  • RubberGoat19/09/2011 at 14:26

    which model?

Panasonic DMC-TZ4. Had it just over two years and it's taken some great shots.

Thing is, when I went to the car race a few weeks ago my mate with the DSLR stood in the same spot and took the same pics, and not only did they come out looking nicer but he didn't have to do much processing, while I spent days doing that!

  • Lynch19/09/2011 at 14:28

didn't know sony did 4/3rds. canon are being left behind.

yeh, its essentially their own version of 4/3 rds.. supposed to be the best compact interchangeable out there (apart form the pens obviously!) ... also, have a look at the A55 / 33 SLTs from sony too... there are smaller than DSLRs but with the same specs etc... (they have the translucent mirror good for sports!)

i'm probably going with the Lumix, just because they're as focussed on video as they are still images. the new x-series is apparently fantastic for filming HD footage: http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/News/Latest+News/Two+new+high+performance+lenses+for+Lumix+G+cameras/8015136/index.html#anker_8015138

But part of the beauty of 4/3 is the commonality of the lens system. Sony always wanna do their own proprietary thing :(

That's becoming more common. Pretty sure you should be able to cancel that too, if not online then over the phone to your bank.

    Damn insurers

I have no idea, I'm not a very loyal customer. I normally just compare again when it's up for renewal but my bank are giving it to me for free by virtue of being a student so I definitely don't want this.

Love this onboard lap by Berger at Suzuka. Shows how much more effort was involved then. Manual gear changes, engines and tyres that were not detuned etc. While you are watching his hands work and his head getting thrown everywhere listen to what his feet are doing.

Yeah that was a struggle.. Was much worse than the Spa Sunday hangover. Plenty of water and cups of coffee/tea in the morning, was mostly normal for the afternoon. :)

    Fun night then?

Yeah really nice. I'd like to say I'm sad to be leaving but I've been working 60 hour weeks the past 5 weeks. I'm literally sick of the sight of the place!

  • Steven Roy19/09/2011 at 21:39

Evening :) I have just had my work leaving do. Had a tad too much Sangria.

No spelling mistakes so you can't have had that much

I've got enough time to sleep it off. Why do you think I came home at 10.30?

    Good idea

  • Alison19/09/2011 at 21:48

    To go back to work?

Aye. I'm not off until Saturday. I don't know that I'll make it.

Ask Nick, we were having a conversation on Saturday and I just started talking to him like he was a customer. Marbles = long gone

  • Bassano19/09/2011 at 21:49

We were already having a meeting tonight. We went after. I couldn't be doing with going in on a different night as well.

I'm alright! I can still stand unaided.... Tired tired tired. I'm really trying to save like a crazy lady. So scary not having full time work. Replacing full time job with £4k student loan does not compute in my head....!!!

I think it's much worse going back too. When I left school, I'd never had a lot of money and never knew any different. Now it's a bit more like.........

Yeah same. Trying to live on the loan instead of pay would be a bit scary.

I just have no idea how that's ever enough money!?

I suppose they assume most are in halls so rent costs are low.

It's still more than I pay now though. Liverpool is cheap. Southampton is not!! :D

Yeah it is a bit pricey generally. Looking for rented accomodation somewhere or found some?
