Hello there, Gavin here, also known as the F1 stats blogger for ‘Making Up The Numbers’. You know, I love the Wednesdays after a Grand Prix because by now, all the dust has settled and we can take a deeper look at the stories from the weekend…
- In fact, the story about Schumacher getting penalised at Monaco has now ended, because Mercedes have decided not to appeal against the ruling. Check out AUTOSPORT and James Allen’s articles on the matter. Personally I agree with the idea that he should be penalised, although it would have been much simpler if the race finished under a yellow flag. But I think it would have been best just to swap the positions back rather than give him a 20-second penalty.
- On that note, there has been a lot of nasty comments flying around the internet about this issue (not here of course!), with Damon Hill even getting hate mail and Joe pondering whether to continue to allow commenting on his blog. Thankfully loads of people commented in support of his blog, so now he has decided to allow them again. If you were one of those who commented in support, then good on ya!
- James Allen also noted that Ferrari did an awesome job of getting a spare car ready for Alonso on Monaco race day. Personally for me, I really enjoyed seeing Alonso make an odd strategy work for him and carve through the field – it was the highlight of the race and he had to be my ‘driver of the day’…
- Dank has written an excellent post about the incident of the race that everyone forgot about – Rubens chucking his steering wheel into the path of an oncoming car. Ironically, this could have turned out just like the incident with Massa at Hungary last year (which involved debris from Barrichello’s car) – but thankfully it didn’t. Both HRT guys had a good close look at it though!
- I have just found out that Heroes, Law and Order and Flash Forward have been cancelled. Hmph. I don't watch the other two but I was barely staying interested in Flash Forward as it's dragging on a bit too much for me - but now it's worse because it feels like such a waste of time trying to persist with it. I give up on TV, I really do!
- Finally something a little different. I am currently reading the excellent and controversial ‘Freakonomics’ series of books – I encourage you to do the same as they will force you to look at the world differently. Even if you don’t agree with their points of view, their ways of arguing their point across are very clever. They also have an excellent blog and podcasts which are worth checking out too…
That’s all from me – I do hope you enjoyed the links and that you have a great Wednesday – it’s cake day in the canteen so I’m all sorted, and I promise to write my Monaco blog posts soon (as I was at a wedding all weekend and barely made it back for the race)...
See you in the comments!
Ah Wednesday :D
I think I jinxed Alonso, I said I'd leave a voice mail the next time he won a race, since then things really haven't worked out for him.
for lou, darren commented on joe's post: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/the-silent-majority/#comment-15770
also pete lyons: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/the-silent-majority/#comment-15794
I don't understand how he ended up doing better than people who made it into Q3 without even overtaking any "frontrunners". Must be witchcraft!
Hulkenburg crashing helped, Alonso pitted changed tyres and could then go the rest of the race without pitting. In fact Hulkenburg's crash saved Fernando's afternoon.
an incredible job to run the whole race on a single set. given kubica killed is over 2/3rds distance.
the Ferrari is lighter on its tyres, so we are told. but i agree it was incredible.
might explain why he went off in practice on fresh tyres.
Seems to be an echo
wooohoo! long standing sidepodcast bug is squished. finally you can intentionally post duplicate comments in the same thread, so long as you do it over 5 minutes apart.
should be perfect for le mans. it's only taken two years to sort.
it's a good echo though.
I have run into that one a few times. Most of the times with things like good night or someone has just posted fastest lap etc.
Dont worry mr c you aren't going crazy. It was me who posted catherines dress and said it didnt suit her :D
thank the lord.
Good morning to all.
Morning. Apologies for forgetting to write a summary paragraph - thanks for fixing it!
looks like a bit of not so cool language in the comment on 2 years old post ...
Yea, am sorting. Didn't think comments were open on ancient posts, but I guess that's changed.
Ooh, it wasn't me! :)
Well thanks anyway to whoever it was ;)
Not sure how it works on your commenting system, I think WP gives options not allowing at all, allowing for 2 weeks, or allowing forever. the last option results in all the spam ...
Mr C will have done something funky to it, I'm sure. Very little of the site works via Wordpress these days :)
I just starting listening to the Freakonomics podcast. I like the longer episodes, not the three or four minute ones.
If I click "Automatically close comments on articles older than 14 days" does that mean they are not allowed or that they go into the moderator queue?
massive thunderstorm outside, haven't had one of those for a while
not allowed. I did that few weeks ago. the old posts only attract spam anyway
I think it takes away the comments box at the bottom of the post.
Might leave it for now then.
You don't really need to unless you start getting spam on there, or you wish to keep everyone in the present.
Fernando rubs in salt: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/f1/story/0,25552,3213_6161945,00.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+feed/autotrader/f1motorracing+(Auto+Trader+F1+Motor+Racing)
And Canada is better that USA at producing TV series?
Like I said, I'm giving up on TV!
Will you throw your TV out?
No, because Mrs. Goat would throw me out if I did!
Don't! You can still watch sports. ;)
That is what the interwebs is for.
But... but TV screens are bigger. :P
When I have people over to watch the world cup, I won't be asking them to crowd around a monitor for sure...
You need a bigger monitor.
Well I tried to buy a couch bed for that room, but I won't have it in time. Going to IKEA on Saturday ;)
Do Jelly beans count as one of my 5+ a Day?
:D World Cup is meant to be shared in gigantic HD TV screens.
If you eat the fruit flavoured ones, then yup.
My brother is obsessed with Jelly Belly beans.
You know what? I bring in a lot of candy to share at work ... Jelly Belly Beans are always first to go and always in less than one day...
Does that mean I have to go the pub with all the Sun readers instead of staying home and watching Twitter?
I don't really like them that much, but he would eat them with a bowlful with a spoon if he could.
candy.. cakes.. pastries on Fridays.. no wonder you run a lot :) am mega jealous though
WC on twitter? Please don't. You must be in a crowd to feel the atmosphere. :P
Have done before.. they take it quite seriously :)
I'd be expected to know stuff about football..
For this year just say: Spain's gonna win. ;)
There was a period when I went out to watch all the sports that I watch out with other people on the big screens. then for some reason here and there I had to stay home and watch at home. I realized that I enjoy it all much more without the noisy crowd around. I used to be out in a bar for every F1 race except those in Americas (silly o'clock over here). I think the last F1 race I watched in a bar was that Brazilian GP where Glo lost Massa's title in the final corner :-)
So I've heard (but then forgot) from my sister's bf. Maybe I should fly to Spain and watch it with him there. :)
Sounds like a good plan. :)
Or just fly to Spain :)
I have the 30 inch Apple Cinema Display which is 2560 x 1600. I still love my 50 inch plasma (should have gone bigger).
The new 3D tv are the same price so even if you rarely watch the 3D bit, you'll love it
I wouldn't mind. Mum's there now, says 'tis very nice..
autotrader quoting planetf1? i can't think of a more dubious source of f1 news.
all posts should be open. especially now with the "random" button.
was it spam spam, or normal people being rude spam?
Crazy Webbo fan.
ahh, cool. there's not much in the world that can be done about those :)
LOL should I find a better link? It was repeated so many times I couldn't be bothered to find the source and just quoted the 1st one. :P
i just try to avoid lazy-arsed journalism, and planet are the epitome of that :)
i'm assuming it's quoting this post?
Ye olde ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/02/03/f1-websites-you-can-trust/
and still true to this day. it quite worrying how little has changed, isn't it?
Will take note and avoid them next time! :D
Probably. Fernando seems more on-task with his blog rather than Felipe or Kimi was, doesn't he?
'Cept the Pitpass bit.
there stories i think are still well sourced. the can shove their opinions somewhere else though :)
i swear kimi never went near his. unless he's someone completely different behind a keyboard, but i should try and pay more attention to alo's.
He is rather different behind a keyboard. WRC made him do a three day blog post for Jordan week and he sounded much like when he did on the Ferrari blog. Plenty of insights and quite ramb-ly at times.
ahh, interesting. might have to read back then. what we really want is a blog from rob :)
You do know I live next to a Golf course too, right? My balcony overlooks it...
A blog? No way - I demand a daily MoralRob column. A blog mean he does it whenever he wants, but we should get a daily fix. :D
Spam spam spam and spam?
Sorry, couldn't resist...
We have those too!
I (heart) Monty Python.
can you imagine the ferrari version of the 0.1b race tracker? it would be a long stream of rob consciousness.
My flat overlooks an ATS tyre shop.
I love ruben's celebrations.
Here's an article about the Sugababes and their naming rights: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment_and_arts/10125165.stm
At the evening at the restaurant last month, Alex discussed that rather like the Philosopher's Ax, this applies to the Sugababes. As only one member of the band changed over each time, they are the Philosopher's Sugababes...
The waving arms are awesomeness :D
Mark Webber thinking he's roger Daltrey too, hehe.
They should just stick in the 'r' and all would be well.
They need to just add their current version to their name, like an app update but in reality. Perhaps when they change again they give us a choice whether we want to accept the new version.
Sounds about right
anyone fancy a game of jigsaw? http://twitpic.com/1p3g1y
they let rubens have a go?
Okay, I am on a roll now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9PlyKaWkws
Felipe, Kazuki and Jarno all look quite okay. But Nick is the prettiest.
Hahaha, heidfeld's beard woman.
Yes, but he still looks quite pretty, no?
Better than what they did to Jenson. :(
rob smedley shout out on 6music!
and felipe baby gets a mention.
(hearts) lauren and lisa
anybody using Opera on Mac ? what on Earth have they done to what once used to be simple handy fast web browser. the only feature that beats any other browser hands down these days is number of crashes per hour ...
since the update our web site looks correct in opera. something it never did before. so i guess they went for layout consistency at the expense of stability?
6music replay in case you missed it: http://drop.io/laurenlaverne/asset/lisa-on-6-music
rob chat at 4:16.
hard to tell, but since I updated to the latest version it crashes every 10 mins, sometime even while I am away from computer ... and the crashes do not discriminate, it crashes no matter on what site I am :-)
ahh, it's not that bad here. am only using it for development testing, but it hasn't crashed yet.
Here's the list of times from yesterday's Indy 500 practice session.
There's a session every day this week.
Sato faster than all the ladies ! cool !
oops, a bit premature excitement, Simona de Silvestro was quicker ...
ooh, wonder if willams can afford them?
The head of Renault's engine programme Remi Taffin says the company is ready to expand its customer supply to additional teams in 2011.
Good afternoon Amy.
Toto can surely?
Williams-Renaults again would make me very happy
Toto Wolff, the Austrian dude who bought equity into Williams?
oh blimey :)
mr c sir...
i may have some spare time on thursday,
with pole day this weekend, would you want an indy 500 preview post?
oooooh, yes please. also, are we having breakout commenting threads? cause we might need info for those posts too.
I am watching an episode of Lost at the actual time that I'm meant to be, for the first time almost all season! I am proud of myself :D
could be worth it - pole day is going to be a long one, but should be mental when the shoot out starts
Well done! Just in time for the end :)
I can't believe this time next week I'll be watching the finale! My life will feel so empty!
It's next week isn't it?
I don't even watch it and I am looking forward to it...
Let me know if you want to share the job, I'd be happy to help in some way
Bump day could be even more interesting now we have cars to bump
i'll write a draft on thursday and send it on if you want
I feel like I should get some snacks and make it some sort of epic night of watching, rather than right now as I am, in bed with a hottie because it's so stupidly cold :(
i'm gonna need a preview post just to understand this :)
also, viso got released from hospital - apparently he's fine after yesterday's crash
I presume there'll be one for the race at least.
The Indy what now? :)
strange you should say that.....
Mrs C do I still have posting priveliges after the last guest post?
I haven't watched a single episode of this Lost thing. am I weird ?
I have changed nothing so all should be as you left it.
How about an event preview this week, commenting threads for qualifying and race? Or is it better to do a race preview next week?
350,000+ people watching 33 cars race for about 2.5 to 3 hours. Bliss. :)
That may be overkill btw, depends how far into it you want to get
if we don't have to write the posts, you won't here any complaints from us :)
Between us Leigh and I will have it covered. :)
I was thinking of doing a bit on the structure of the event and the track itself; do you fancy looking at the drivers and teams themselves or something like that and we can meet somewhere in the middle?
That sounds good. If I have any blanks could you fill them in?
I was thinking of approaching it as a 'Guide for F1 fans'
Sounds like a plan
Ouch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k79srWFaOZI
Highlights from yesterday's session - Viso's accident is at the 3.50 mark
Good stuff. If there are no objections we could do it as a preview post each rather than sending it between us. A lot of history and a lot of teams..
Aye - it could be very long otherwise
It's an odd name, and it's to do with Williams, so it's a little easier to remember...
say hello to him/her for us then :P
Wolff as opposed to Wolf of course
Yeah. I've nothing against checking each other's stuff though if you want to do that. I'm just throwing ideas around.
I'll have one sorted for Saturday morning. Pole day starts here at 4pm (I think), so I'll get it in beforehand
I knew someone would be smart about that! Not surprised it was you :D
SweetF1 are asking for 'Driver Stalking' Photos: http://sweetf1.blogspot.com/2010/05/liuzzi-moments-driver-stalking.html
Where's Walter when you need him?
Will watch when I've not got people over my shoulder..
They can watch it too ;)
Awesome. When do you think would be a good time to do the teams/drivers?
How about Sunday? It could be a weekend special
Yep no probs!
I want to watch.
I hope that Heikki will go back now that he's not Mcshackled.
interesting reading what pitpass say about their site stats, versus what google reports:
you can flick between '09 and '10 stats using the drop down on the right.
yeah, they overly blow their own trumpet from time to time - occasionally get a sense of bitterness too, but maybe that's just me
Where's the spike? I barely see a prick...
Must. resist. joke.
they say mar/apr this year saw increases, google says decrease.
google may not be accurate i guess.
Just realised what I said. I was talking in terms of the graph... honest guv!
I rarely ever believe anything pitpass say anyways.
If you check most of the popular F1 sites, they all have a slight increase in visitors in Jan and have been declining since. I can say the same for my blog too...
just saw that, seems odd
i dont know if they'd completely lie about it. i guess its possible googles numbers be for unique visitors/visitors/page hits etc where their own lot maybe for something different
true. except for james allen's oddly:
woah! thats got to be schumacher related surely? or people just miss him now legards here!
But there's gaps in the data for some reason. If you ignore the spike (which must be related to Schumi), I think he decreases too.
no idea. just noticed it. at the moment the same spike isn't visible on ad planner:
but that may not be up to date.
His site has some wild swings in it compared to the others...
it used to go down a lot
Indeed. That would account for the variations as people swamp the site, then nobody visits while it's down, then everyone swamps it again when it goes back up...
Just realized: the server didn't go down (from what I saw) throughout the Monaco GP weekend - even during the Schumacher investigation and penalty. Looks like they've finally sorted out their technical issues.
James should have a word with Tony and get his Air Asia site fixed :D
you broke it?
this seems like a pretty small list. amy?
Aren't they still having their basement bargain sales on airline tix? :)
the whole world broke it, it's 48 hours later and it's still not working right. All he tweeted was "No server can take this kind of volume. We have maxed it withour becoming google." but I see today he is now saying "Our amercian provider screwed up. Owned bu accenture. Shd be okay now. Try now. We will contiune promotion."
It's still not right though.
Nicole's tweet is... ewww. And we didn't see much of Lewis in the race, either, did we?
unfortunately that is all :(
must be a really good deal!
its so good if I didn't have a job I'd buy lots more tickets. I could go to London return for 1/4 of what I'm paying this time!
Do you just want to see more talk of dresses?
ends on the 23rd. Lots of cheap flights from your part of the world, apparently. Come to Malaysia!
Although, you'll be in Melbourne in 2011, no?
to be honest, i'm not a fan of the whole wives & girlfriends thing. surely the action should be on track...
he was right about the dress :D
Good luck with that!
agreed. if only there was any.
I don't like seeing them when there are cars on track because I'd rather be watching the cars, but the rest of the time, more wags please.
noble appears to have missed the most important question: http://www.autosport.com/features/article.php/id/2819
What if it is Massa who decides he would rather race for manager Nicolas Todt at ART, if it gets an entry for 2011?
what about rob?
He can move too..?
I doubt that Massa would go from Ferrari to ART without being pushed.
oh and ART would be stupid to turn down a Massa/Rob combo if he did
maurice is blogging (sorta): http://www.facebook.com/yasmarinacircuit?v=app_7146470109&ref=ts
By the way everyone, beards are banned - I may need to shave now
If you want more wags buy a dog.
Yes. Am contemplating joining you guys in KL... if my budget can afford it.
if it brings more interest to f1 and doesn't affect anyone else, i don't see the harm?
Wut? Leave Ferrari for a newbie team? If he's going there, it'll be because he can't stay at Ferrari.
hmmm. i wonder how rob would work out with a kubica or a vettel. or if he'll just get promoted instead.
Amy, what is Heikki doing?
making an ad!
you say "you guys" but I have no idea if anyone else is coming :D
Which one? On camping?
the thing I have noticed is it seems the female F1 fans tend to be interested in the wags and the "people" side of things more than the male fans. Obviously this isn't true for everyone, but it's something I've always noticed at races and on websites.
its from this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qq7T1yUHb9o
I'm not that interested in it, but my only objection would be the term wags. It isn't a particularly nice word to say, seems to be more and more derogatory and doesn't account for anyone having a boyfriend.
I liked the horse. ;)
Minus points! Minus points!
you've already done that! I think he should get points for his generous Monaco charity donation :D
Without wishing to appear boorish, I've always considered most motorsports fans to be a little more considerate that the footballing majority.
I don't particularly like to see it dragged down to a lesser level.
Good golly, maybe I am a prude!!
That's good :)
like you and lewis?
I happen to like some of the football WAGs too. So I'm not bothered much by the term.
i don't see how? aren't they all rich and glamourous women?
If we have to look at them in the pits when we should be watching what's happening then it affects someone else.
If they want to do all the peripheral stuff and get PR just for clinging to a driver they can knock themselves out, just don't get in the way at race time..
i agree. if there's something worth watching, that's absolutely a problem.
That's true and that's probably what I'm getting at too. To me it means the type who want to get their picture taken and put in the trashy gossip mags or the tabloids, just because they're with Driver X or Football Player Y.
In fairness, I think "WAGS" has become a derogatory term stemming from the sorts that accompany footballers and I don't think the F1 types are as bad as that...
you explained it better than i ever could have
BFFs it is then.
Talking about WAGs BFFs...
Ooh, look look, there's going to be a LOST auction: http://www.profilesinhistory.com/items/lost-auction-preview
I think everyone should have one of these: http://www.chrislabrooy.com/project/bgp/brawn_toaster1_950px.jpg
Remember seeing that last year, so so awesome. Sadlt it's not real :(
Have you seen this too? Chris' work is awesome
Gosh, wherever they are it is very light for 11pm.
He might have forgotten to change the clock. Travelling and time difference and all.
I love how Liz takes two-thirds of the bed. ;)
I don't know what that is but the name of the YouTube account isn't appropriate, so I'm moderating it.
Ahhhh yes, didn't notice. My bad
Aaaahh... 3.45pm in work - just been taught a lesson on the foosball table by a colleague. At least it wasted 10 minutes
Anyone given this a go? http://www.reclaimprivacy.org/
Turns out I did quite well....
afternoon everyone :)
I arrive to share with you all another exciting exchange from the work chat room... Jeremy had just rolled out a brand new feature:
(4:39 PM) Jeremy: it goes to XXXXXX and back in real time
(4:40 PM) fourstar: could we have a Back To List button from the results page?
(4:40 PM) fourstar: or are you going to suggest I press the Back icon?
Uh oh. I feel like we've had this argument before :)
Red bull have signed another young driver to their programme....it's getting a bit ridiculous now....
Giggles Advent which is still randomly turning days on and off because it doesn't know it's only supposed to run in december still has that link there just for him: http://gigglesadvent.com/?id=1
gotta love their vision
Does that boy also happen to be a Sebastian? Or is Nico the new 'in' name now?
i have to head off for a while - see you later
Hiiiii. Just home from another trip to new work. Sadly the holiday is off
How is new work?!!
Why it's fun. ;) So far they've got Kimi, Sebastian, Jaime and Karun right. Only Franck was wrong. #sorryChristine
Oh my goodness. It scares me every time. It got Bernie!
I'm going to try Jean. And Rob.
It got Max too! MAX!
And Luca. And Ron. And Flavio. But it didn't get Christian Horner on the first try (I had to choose him for a list).
Didn't get Mr Kipling though..
Hectic! I've been paid a day for today which is a happy surprise on top of a petrol allowance for traveling there. I'm getting good vibes. Annoyingly, they're very busy though so I'm not sure when I can take my holiday....
we tried this before and it got christine right.
I was going for Christine and it gave me Ron Dennis.
For those who use Tweetie 2 on the iPhone/iPod Touch, there's an update available for it now which makes it the official Twitter app
haven't tried it. is it any good?
The beebs 90 second Monaco review is actually rather good....even though it's 108 seconds ;)
Seems the same, they say they've updated plenty elsewhere but nothing noticeable. It does have a new logo and I've seen a few people say it's easier to tell the difference between messages and Tweetie/Twitter on an iPhone
may have to give it a go
maths. it's tricky.
Noticed they have the auto/manual retweeting options different now, with retweet for the automatic one and quote tweet for the one you add comments to version
Unsure about quoting it in " marks though, so used to the RT version
World sunlight map
It didn't get Scott Dixon!
Hmmm. Apps coming to Google Chrome via Google Web Store....
now that could be interesting. any idea what the profit split is?
No idea, haven't seen any more information apart from that and a page showing some very, very popular PC games being included within the launch apps as well a stuff like tweetdeck
i could see that taking off.
would make development really easy because you're targeting one vendor. it's html, but one that only runs on chrome.
Really interesting idea that...
There is an application that can compile to iPhone from HTML5... And apparently it's still valid in the store. Now we have databases and everything in the browser how much do you need pure function calls unless you're dealing with files?
Hey all *waves*
Are you on the beach?
Google have a developer conference in San Francisco going on at the moment, it began today. Wonder if they will announce anything else? http://code.google.com/events/io/2010/
haha! i wish.. it's such nice weather :)
And hello all :)
just for speed i guess? the problem with the html5 implementations is they all differ slightly. i would like a html5 platform with a single api.
hey janna and lou
at the moment, every code change to sidepodcast requires x4 open browsers, and then a deskhop to look at IE before release. only when it's live can i then check in android and iphone.
so seven checks before every release. and four for every code change. i can't think of a less productive workflow than web development right now.
oh yeah. and then it still fails in IE 6&7.
hey guys, long time no intro. might leave a voicemail fur de heluvit.
interesting the webapps thing is using google checkout. currently not open to uk sellers. i guess we'll be cut out of that too then :(
So what we need is one global computer/laptop/mobile manufacturer with one operating system and one browser and then all of your problems will be solved. Now, who's going to tell all of the others? ;)
Did mr c do a sly code change after i hollered the other day? mobile doohickey displays correctly in opera mini 4. :-)
Oooh goodness. More new free levels for Angry Birds. Must. stop. playing. it. ;)
heheh. i guess if i wanted that i could just make iphone apps. have just sort of realised how daft the process is.
i added a white-space like wot you done asked?
oh goodness no!! i haven't finished the others yet...
There's a new bird and everything!!
Goodness, how dare the developers provide a fantastic service. So very rude. :P
you might need to help me on the level i am currently stuck on next week... :P
Which one is it?
i don't have my ipod with me.. but i can tell you it's a mean one.
That could be 99% of them :D will definitely give it a go. Soooo much fun for 59p!
Absolutely... All I meant is you could with the two make a single Android/iPhone/iPad app...
(although without wanting to get too much into it but how often does anyone write cross platform code other than on the web?)
got ya. they're not the same though, because android ships with different typefaces, so nothing ever lines up.
desktop doohickey is cross platform, but i've given up on adobe air.
Right but it's a hack... What I mean is for most desktop developers all they have ever done is write for one OS. Or at least one OS at a time. And with the web it always seems so weird but really as far as an analogue goes we are writing cross platform stuff when we do web development because each of the browsers is, as far as we are concerned as developers, different OSes.
I'm not excusing it, it's just something I've been realising over the last few years.
tis all true.
i've only really started to care very recently when trying to get things to match. and it can't ben done, when browsers on the same OS display text differently.
Astons have announcd their Le Mans line up;
Do we know if Ants in a Pug?
Is it one of the laws of the universe that all olympic mascots should be incredibly weird and creepy?
RG and myself are in agreement it should be Springy
it's about on par with our logo.
watch the video of how they are "created"
Anthony Davidson will join the Le Mans-winning Peugeot team for this year's 24 Hours and the Sebring 12 Hours.
looks like i picked a bad week to quit LSD
hehe i totally have to make more of an effort to watch lots of the 24hrs this year.
So the mascots that are made represent us are the result of an industrial accident.
I have to work out how to do it because im away that weekend, but i have to watch it, its the law
what weekend is it?
12/13th june i believe
canadian GP weekend? awww Ant wont get to see the marmots!
It's going to be a packed weekend of sport, there may be one or two football matches on too.
June is awesome.
oh my goodness.. luckily the motorsport will protect me from football :)
When you say one or two, you do mean like 5 or 6 don't ya?
*checks to see what world cup matches are on over goodwood*
its not the world cup already is it?
22 days :D:D
Starts 11 June, UK first match 12th. If you want to know, schedule of matches is here.
Quarter finals. Thats ok, thats usually when England go out anyways
hmmmm you can watch football when i'm sorting out my cameras and things... deal?..
Don't worry Jon, according to my predictions, its only 37 days until England get knocked out
Lame. I wonder what I can do to avoid seeing any football
i'm sure spc will offer me non football conversation..
. o O ( hires someone to steal Lou's cameras, then return them when the matches are over )
Hide under a cave with access only to Autosport and Sidepodcast...
Don't go to the pub, don't switch on the tv ;)
Awww. The world cup is special, it only comes every 4 years and it's international football awesomeness. I won't be too bad though, I promise :)
*is excited lots though*
or turn on my computer or anything :D
the way i see it is.. i have to sort out my camera and everything ready for the next day of goodwood anyway... and the football will keep lukeh occupied while i do that.
Actually, that schedule will probably be of most use to you. It shows when the matches are on & whether the BBC or ITV are showing them. You can use it for avoidance.
I get the excitement of football etc (well i dont because im not a football fan but i can see why others like it), however I dont get the blind optimism that English football fans have thinking we're going to win every time
i've had to watch games from the last two world cups and i'm sorry it just feels like any other game of football.. it does however, mean you can't complain if i stand and take pics of Jenson for ages..
Thats the best thing bout being a Welsh football fan - we're so rubbish we have no expectations :D
Again, fair deal :P
Oh we have absolutly no hope in hell of winning it.
Although if we get past the might of Serbia, we could have a fairly easy route to the semi finals... I should post my World Cup predos up soon.
oh and their might be more conditions.. when i think of them :P
SPOILERS: The Dr Who Series 5 finale titles have been released. Only click if you really want to know. http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/episode_extras_guide/series_episode_extras_guide
I'm going to turn up in Havant to a contract aren't I? :)
well if not i can always blog about my day.. s'all good :)
lou, i think we can get you into football. i don't like the game, but i'll be watching. we can be unknowledgable together.
it's not like soccer is that complicated.
ahh, watching the superbowl was good fun even though I didn't have clue what was happening :)
sidepodcast helped though!
no, but there are lots of men running around and they all have names.
and then sometimes they change ends and it gets real confusing,
you're going to watch?... why?.... hmmm okay, if we're going to live comment it....i've not had a spc world cup yet.. would be silly to miss out. i'll keep one eye on it.. maybe
I just had a sudden thought - they look like the aliens from The Simpsons!
it's a fun thing to do with friends. plus i've tried fighting it before, it never works.
So close to them using Springy :(
yeah, American football can be really confusing to someone who didn't grow up watching it.
Kind of like Cricket or Rugby to most Americans.
then.. at one point the goaly picks up the ball and throws it!... that always used to confuse me, i thought they were meant to use their feet..
I would say the commentators would help you out, then I remembered ITV were doing a few matches.
I think the thing I'm most looking forward to with the World Cup is the coverage from 5 Live. Danny Baker is going to South Africa and Alan Davies is doing a show on a Sunday morning with a couple of his friends who were on the Arsenal podcast. They don't take themselves or the game too seriously so it should be fun.
excellent. i'm watching with you :)
They're allowed to use their hands though :)
Unless you're this guy
Legend. Just a legend.
Ok that's just showing off.
showing off would be doing it with his eyes closed.
awesome, although i'm told i'm awful to watch football with.. i talk alot cause i don't understand it..
what are you like at chanting?
My mum does the same thing. There was a friendly on in January or so where she wanted to know why Wales were playing in blue and white
Ignoring the fact the match was between Brazil and Argentina, but still
That said she does follow our local team around the country... but she still doesn't totally understand it :)
So long as you don't play Three Lions 2010 I'll be happy. Why they felt the need to remake it another time, I shall never know.
Its just a shame there isn't going to be Fighting Talk on really.
but.. she watches and supports your local team... right?.. she must know something about it... and oh yeah.. like it :P
they made another?
There should be a law against that
I dont think it was baddiel and skinner this time though, Robbie Williams was in on it and someone off X Factor
Agreed, looking forward to the Champion of Champions
She does but she still makes oblivious comments :D its very amusing
Oh apparently they were in on it
Looks like it'll be a brilliant show, some big names :)
It's nice to know requests get actioned so quickly the guy who asked for them didn't even notice the change until much later! :D
all part of the service ;)
There's always PHP to redress the balance.... ;)
I so didn't forget about it... VIVA F1 quiz in 15 mins
Oh that PHP!
what is PHP??
Most of what the web's built upon. Forums and the like.
What has been controlling my life for the last few weeks :P
Man I hate that at work.
HURRY UP AND GET THIS DONE!!!
Ok, it's done!
Ok, we might start using it in a couple of months.
Just to elaborate slightly on it, and I apologise if this goes over your head, it's particularly adept at handling and executing database queries.
Get back to work!!!!
(when you get it working and then realise whata complete numpty you are for missing out a simple line of code)
ahh coding.. tis all i need to know.
for anyone at vivaF1 wondering, lympog is moi
Ahh right, was wondering ;)
As I meant to say when I followed you on last.fm, I didn't realise that was you, having seen the name elsewhere :)
Anyone else listening to MWM? Hindy isn't there this week and it's really not great
Guilty, been there done that got the t-shirt with the missing line! :D
I'm about to post a few choice comics I like.
i agree with joe about a lot of things, but there is no way in a million years that rubens "dropped" his steering wheel in monaco: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/05/19/looking-back-at-the-schumacher-business/
I'm with you on that one. I agree that he may not have been thinking straight, but that was definitely a toss.
Good news: we now know where your lost servers are!
bad news: some other group is using them!
the stewards screwed up on that i think.
do you work with alex, perchance?
no... did he steal someones servers?
someone stole hi

Did somebody steal my server?
didn't they? or did they decommission it?
i love that mr c pays more attention to dresses now than whether or not your server was stolen ;)
You know that whole typekit coolness mr c?
Did you see the google font announcement?
very nice :)
just catching up now. something i could've done with two weeks ago, not now! we picked our typefaces already :)
*rolls up sleeves*
IT DIDN'T SUIT HER!
amy said so
My... Is this the forbidden thing?
One time my server had an actual crash in that it was being transported between data centers and the lorry drove off the side of the motorway!!! (and I lost all my data, but I had backups).
But yes I don't think I've ever had a server stolen. Things at my house have been stolen however
:D :D :D
last week typography.. this week dresses!... only on sidepodcast :D
i can't remember stuff at the best of times, but i swear you had a phone in each ear and fourstar had another and everyone got mad and it wasn't your fault, it just got switched off.
either that or i am having very vivid dreams about you sir.
i posted some links to some photos of Catherine in the dress Timo's girlfriend liked... But i didn't know Amy had already seen it, and didn't like it... mr c did though :P
did I ever mention the dream that I had? We were all at Spa (this year).
And Alex stole my macbook pro.
I was not pleased.
ah I remember the incident well. Now you've reminded me. It wasn't physically stolen. Just stolen by another group.
to be fair that MacBook pro was so mine ;)
and as jpancoast said:
Good news: we now know where your lost servers are!
bad news: some other group is using them!
hehehehe i've corrected it for you.. just to prepare you for what will happen ;)
I think this teaches me an important lesson: I shouldn't skimp on Reading comments and come in in the middle.
works fro me every day
often for me too but I confused and went forward instead of back.
Anybody fancy coming to Lowestoft the weekend of the 5th/6th for my birthday? Drinks, chat, people, no F1!
sorry, i'm adjusting my fonts...
I swore. :P
Sorry, let me rephrase that.
if anyone has anything they think should be in the daily, let me know. i'm getting ideas now :)
Listening to old sidepodpanels and after Australia 2009 I said "BBC had Eddie Jordan, so instant 5 stars"
Oh young Lukeh, so much to warn you about
:D :D :D
Just thought of a brilliant new invention.
The iSwear - so expensive but so Apple you just can't help but swear.
i like it!
adam cooper on jenson's engine is worth a plug: http://adamcooperf1.com/2010/05/19/monaco-pit-mistake-devastating-says-whitmarsh/
he also has a good quote from karun: http://adamcooperf1.com/2010/05/19/karun-chandhok-i-ducked-and-it-went-over-my-head/
Anybody for more Apple?
Crumbs, link fail.
I'm already super jealous of Nick's ipad.
ooh a new heart: ♡
i have no idea how to make it happen aside from copying and pasting though?
This is cancelled out by the fact I found my liverpool library card though. Hassle free bookage. w00t.
Oooooh. Where is the fat heart though!
I can't even make the other kind happen. I just look at them jealously....
♡ vs ♥
In Firefox it shows as two pairs of numbers in a box..
ahhhhhh, heart fail :(
Battle of the hearts
that is a fat heart
not for me. 3 lines horizontally i presume its meant to be?
you do not know how long ive wanted to do that
You didn't know either?? Serves you right for not owning up sooner.... You too could have known the truth.
hmm? Kathi was the first to comment it wasn't she?.. or was it me?..
ahh, could be. i have no idea. one of you cool cats.
After all these fancy new hearts all I can see in that is a ice cream cone fallen sideways, poor thing
aha, found it:
not quite as memorable sadly
ahaha! you called me cool! ahaha how little you know..
how on earth am i going to remember...
Roses are red
violets are blue
I just wanted to say
how I ♡ you.
And yet it works when you quote it, cooool.
you missed the semi-colon
hi guys, hope you are all ok
(drunk while commenting here)
Oh god, not again. Not after the last few weeks.
which is a familiar story... is it not? ;)
have one for us
i'm watching junior apprentice.. i love that the lighting makes everyone's eyes look amazing!!
may or may not have done so already
Spot The Difference
There 8 differences and no silly rules
maybe you need more practice :P
Thank god for the iPlayer! A man has to quiz.
The spot the difference should be up soon
Junior Masterchef for the win.
Spoke too soon!
My eyes are in tears at how bad the products were.
*plugs eyes and ears*
When you're done with STD you may wish to ID these six tracks
did not know this:
The teams have a more sophisticated timing system than the one available to the public and media. It divides the lap into ten sectors, rather than the basic three and this gives them a much faster evaluation of the way the tyres are behaving.
presumably that's what the iphone app uses?
i do like that james has starting putting key text in bold for the stupid people!
i'm stuck on 5 differences...
thanks Mr C :D
ooooo i have 7 now..
it's like you're christine for the evening
Weeeeird... Doohickey is immune to silly computer problems :D
ah ha! last one was mean. i can continue with me evening now :)
hmm i shall take that as a compliment :P
My favourite question tonight definitely was 'what blood type is Yuji Ide' :)
wow! is it the same as most of them?
There was a round about Yuji Ide
Clearly the best round ever :D
(be negative ;) )
Apparently it is AB+
I thought it was blood type W. W for WINNER.
I can't connect to the internet, when I type an address I get a page from my router saying local connection only. I can post on the doohickey though ♥
how very odd. i can't explain that.
I can. Sidepodcast is so awesome it gets around rubbish routers! :D
But the doohickey is on the internet.
No it's not.
The doohickey is a sentient lifeform slowly moulded and shaped by Mr C to the needs and growth of Sidepodcast's loyal followers.
I should probably put down the beer......
Have now found 8 on STD hours after lou. That was annoying me, now feel better. Let's hope the 8 are correct ;).
I have also pressurised cheap landlord into fitting broadband! :D Result :D Now I only have 3 days of internet free sadness. Plus I have shiny shiny working again. Today is good!
I thought you had a place with broadband? Didn't you say that yesterday?
Ooooh yes :D
I'm just trying to offset my ipad jealousy. There must be other good things that happened today!
Google announced WebM - VP8 + Vorbis + Matroska = YouTube's new video format for HTML5.
I still can't get over how people live without having any local internet access at all. My head would explode if I had to remember things. I must look up the same information online twice a day...
I read books and chat to people. Eventually I look at my phone.
Says a lot. :)
Plus it helps that I remember insane amounts of data - I get some baffled looks at work when I can reel off account numbers for people and telephone numbers for different sites.
made it back - what goes on?
Hiya leigh. Mostly sidepodpanel listening and reminiscing for me :)
i can remember my drivers licence number, several old car number plates, and many many part numbers that i use at work. but i can't remember how many gps Yuji flippin Ide took part in!
Did you know he has a blood type of AB+?
5 wasn't it? He got told to pack his bags for being too rubbish by the FIA, I know that much.
Jenson is O+.. i think... that's only cause it's on his overalls though..
Something for a few heads here - I may be interviewing Sam Bird (British GP2 driver) soon.
Right now I'm putting together a draft of Q's for him about his rise through the junior formulae and what he looking for the future (etc, etc, etc...), but does anyone have any questions for the chap that they might want to know?
doesn't every driver have their blood type printed on their overalls in case of an accident?
Does he play Angry Birds?
I am now prepared if this question ever arises :)
love your blogpost on Ian Curtis. I have been buying music from old Factory artists, including Joy Division. Wish I had been into the music at the time.
If so, can he do Lou's level for her?
Probably only when driving
If ART were to get into Formula 1 for 2011, would he be interested in making the immediate step up with the team, or rather hang around in GP2 for longer?
Not sure it is compulsory any more because the doctors at the track have all the drivers's medical files
touching from a Distance by Deborah Curtis is well worth a read - fabulous book
i've seen it on Bike Racers' overalls. it should be compulsory though,
not sure if they all have it.. and tbh i'm not sure if Mclaren put it on their overalls. Brackley always did.. and i think red bull do too..
Cheers RG - I keep forgetting ART are applying for that spot
Is he the guy with Racing Steps Foundation support? How far does he think he'd have got without it? Not necessarily a reflection of talent but more in terms of finance
oooo!!! Lukeh! is he the one i saw at goodwood and took a random picture of but had no idea of his name?..
tis interesting, but still awhile away.
He is :)
oh lordy... why?
He is the one that had the online F3 game we used to play on here. BP sponsored him
Because sidepodpanel was awesome. ;)
i'll have to get that
i got 24hr Party People on DVD over xmas. I watched it with Commentary from Tony Wilson, and it changed my view of the film. i loved it at first, but since that, i don't like it so much. i want to see Control, which was all about Curtis. It's not available on itunes though.
Rightio, me offy now, another exam tomorrow so should have an early night, ciao and lotsa love.
Does he tweet?
hehe. one day we'll do some more/
Yes, he is. I was looking at that one, but trying to phrase it will take a bit of thinking
i don't remember that :( i remember this though
i miss spc game nights... :(
Everybody in my house is coming down with a cold. Hopefully I escape!
Yeah quite delicately I'd imagine
All Birds do
"Who was that?"
Im not sure you have the right guy, Turvey has racing steps support, Sam Bird dosent to my knowledge. Neither ART cars do
Good luck Mr RG. Think of Springy.
Try this. It won't run on my PC due to some plug in problem
Decent film, although I haven't seen it with commentary - I'm a big fan of Wilson too, I just loved his freer attitude when dealing with artists
we ran out of games :(
hehehe i'd just seen Jenson for the second time in a day.. it was very much take a photo of someone who could be a driver... ask who he is later...
I'm sure Leigh could shoehorn in something about custard too. I bet he's never heard that before.
We need one we can all play at the same time.
not that we are at all competitive.. ;)
You're probably right - I'll need to look at it again when I'm not exhausted
was before my time
oooo i remember that!
Probably best I avoid that one. I should maybe drop the question about Potato Waffles too
Same thing here I think... Shockwave wants to take half an hour downloading a 4mb file.. stupid Adobe
We used to pick a game on a Friday night and everyone would post their best score on dropio. But it didn't get competitive at all. Never
Thought you might
Of course, yes!! Bird came through BMW and Renault, before hitting F3. Silly me
i miss Parade Laps, even though I only got to hear 2 of them. especially the little competitions. I have no idea where I got "The Spy Who Cost Us The Constructor's Championship" from, after someone mentioned Sidepodbond films.
ya, as steven said, sponsored by bp for a year (or 2?) lovely looking car
ahh, well that's mr. andronov's dept. even before we downshifted we basically handed that over to him. no sure if he has plans or how busy he is though.
It's all beginning to come back together now
Doctor Who related:
Yes sir!! Looks what's coming out soon!!
Ah I do know lots of things by heart. A lot of phone numbers including for places I haven't worked in 5 years... I know my NI number, details for 2 bank accounts, multiple store reference numbers for a variety of suppliers.... Numbers are not my problem. It's simple information like opening hours for places I go everyday or inane things like that that I end up looking up repeatedly.
I'm also ashamed to say, with all you talking about random peoples' blood types, I don't actually even know my own....
we have to put some comments through this:
The Prediction API enables access to Google's machine learning algorithms to analyze your historic data and predict likely future outcomes.
or some legard quotes.
Day 5 of practice is about to finish - Dixon is again on top with a lap of 226.9, but Castroneves was able to whip up a lap of 225.5 without any draft... (scary thought)
I don't know mine either.
On the upside, I do know Yuji Ide's now.
you're not alone
i don't know your blood type either
or mine for that matter
it's probably o negative
don't worry, i don't know mine either. I've not had to have a blood test yet (that i remember) and i've never really figured that i need to know...
Most people don't. The only reason I know mine was because I needed it on the medical certificate for my racing licence
red. definitely red.
I've had a blood test and I think they told me, but I was too busy giggling from the morphine
i can totally imagine what you'd be like on morphine.. :D
Also Dr Who, this maybe the greatest photograph ever
But what if we're all on the scene of a huge accident? You mean we won't all be able to give instant life saving transfusions??? :O
i downshifted at work recently (read that as "swap jobs with some other poor soul") yet I still remember account numbers, phone & fax numbers, and names of contacts.
At least I can tell the doctor my blood type unless the huge accident renders me unconcious
It's fine, it'd never happen. I'm sure we'd all be tucked up safely inside.
you used to be able to buy that over the counter didn't you? kaolin & morphine? were talking late 70's early 80's
if i was at the scene of a huge accident i think it's safe to say i would have passed out.. i would be no use to anyone.
Most folk cope in those situations even if they think they won't.
Even a few years ago.
i'm way past my bedtime, especially as it's a school night.
goodnight to all of you, see you later
same here - i've to be up at 5.30 for a flight
oh the joy.....
shall be back at some stage tomorrow
*waves* to leavers
Bye to those leaving
bye SB and Leigh
that's true. Whilst i have the ability to pass out when listening to descriptions of bones.. or when i break one of my own bones, i've luckily never had the chance to see if i would pass out at the scene of a huge accident.
night to everyone who left
ive passed out through pain once, that was no fun.
night all who has left
I just fell up the stairs. That sounds like mind my telling me it's time to sleep.
I used to be like that but you will grow out of it
mum says that too. I just wish it was something i could control.. one moment i'm standing around this model skeleton in biology, the next i feel awful and i'm on the floor with people crowding round me...
Same goes for when i first stepped foot inside a hospital.. i sat down and moments later i'm laying in a bed of my own with a nurse giving me a glass of water. very odd.. and very scary when you're young and it first happens.
right, sleep time for me, school in the morning and all that jazz.. even if i do have 6 frees tomorrow :s ah well. night all! xx
6 frees? Hardly worth going.
i know.. but we have to go in.. sssooooo stupid. :s anyway xx
Awww you're so good. I always figured they couldn't really do anything about it anyways.... If they ask just tell them you didn't want to waste valuable study time traveling to school and back.
and try not to laugh whilst saying it :P
Is anyone good with excel? I'm trying to do some staff rotas and it's driving me mad.... If I type in something like 8-12 it thinks I'm talking about 8th December rather than start and finish time of a shift, is there any way to stop it behaving so moronically??
Type '8-12 and it knows it is just data so it will appear as 8-12
It knows it is text not data.
or change the formating of the cell as TEXT, you may need to re-type the text.
I LOVE you!!!
I knew it. In your face Nick. ;)
