It is Tuesday again, but this week there is no F1 racing to look forward to. Boohoo :(. There are plenty of F1 news though :), so I better get started with the bullet points:
- The saga between Joe and his not so nice readers continues. Aren't you all glad that we have such wonderful moderators here?
- Schumi's latest
cheatinginnovative move has been penalised and poor Damon Hill is getting heat for it. For goodness sake, he is just doing his job! - Fernando Alonso's gaffe in qualifying has gained momentum of its own among the press. Here are Andrew Benson and James Allen's take on it.
- 'Delirious' makes a point that we have all thought of at one time or another while watching F1.
- Christine's Rankings are very positive today. A review of 2012 is also up.
- I don't want to believe it but someone has decided that Schumi isn't the only one doing the cheating in F1. So I have done research on F1 scandals in the past decade (and no, Mark isn't on that list).
- We here at Sidepodcast have new ideas to revolutionize racing.
- The mystery of VLN is solved.
- Jenson needs a new helmet design again. Maybe it is to compensate his fall in the rankings? Also, why is Kimi (21) still classified as being in F1? I am happy for Sebastian though.
- In non-F1 news, don't drink old milk. Don't eat mysterious multi-colored cakes either. But panda biscuits are fine. :)
- And Lukeh gets an awesome postcard. You can also try out the Heuritage Project here, but be careful with it!
Finally, please vote for your favorite drink. Careful though, as your response may decide if you will ever get invited to Mr & Mrs C's house.
Hello everyone. Sorry I wasn't around for the race this two previous weekends. This season is officially on snooze mode where I just catch the race on the replay on SpeedTV. The only other year I've done this is when Schumacher won almost every race in 2002.
As for the news of the latest team rumored to try for the 13th grid spot all I can say is.......... (*deep and long groan*)............. oh no... not again.
oh... dear...
As the wise man once said:
Fool me once, shame on Peter Windsor's Toaster venture. Fool me twice... shame on me.
lovely daily marilene. i can't for the life of me figure out how to vote on the poll, be we do have a built in sidepodpolling system that i can get christine to email you about tomorrow.
Wooo I voted :D
How? there are no buttons
The poll is a great idea :)
I thought it was only me that couldn't vote
Magic?
I clicked on View Results then there's a vote now link at the very bottom of that page.
Couldn't they have made it slightly less obvious?
clever. if you carry on voting like that, we'll import the results tomorrow.
i love the idea of a daily poll, we'll see if we can make it super easy for people to create them.
Ta :)
Evening folks =)
Yeah I was confused. I applied my usual strategy of random clicking though and came out on top...
Hi Jim
Just got done watching the GP and catching up on news. Looks like Schumi got robbed, although I'd have loved to have been Damon Hill at that moment.
I can't believe the flack Alonso is getting in Italy. See James Allen link in the daily post
Hmm, do tell. Checking it out now.
It's the usual F1 problem of rules being unnecessarily complicated
Or vague, like with the F-duct. They rely too much on "the spirit of the rules"
Just read it, and wow... 'Nando is catching a ton of flak.
Seems a bit over the top even for the Italian press.
Vettelwantstogo to Ferrari. Is he insane?
http://www.crash.net/f1/news/159848/1/vettel_drops_further_hints_of_ferrari_f1_future.html
I'd rather have him than Webber, whom the rumor is surrounding recently. Mark is doing a fine job now, but it's only a matter of time before he goes back to being the most unlucky person in F1.
Vettel doesn't want to go up against Alonso at Ferrari if he has any sense
I agree. I honestly dont know if he has the mental fortitude either. This is the same guy we saw crying in the back of the paddock after he stuffed it into Webber a couple years back.
I just think he is not fast enough to go against Alonso especially at Ferrari where Alonso speaks the language and they make cars that handle the way he likes. He is far better of staying at Red Bull where the owner speaks his language and he is the one they would rather won
I'm not sure that he's not fast enough. Vettel won in a Toro Rosso, so I'd say the kid has plenty of speed. The political game would crush him though.
The Toro Rosso was a Red Bull with a Ferrari engine so there is no reason why if the team managed to set it up that it wasn't a fast car. He is not exactly blowing Webber away and no-one believes Webber is on a par with Hamilton or Alonso.
The perfect teammate for Alonso I'd say would be Kimi. Kimi doesn't care and is very nonchalant. He only cares about himself, doesn't bother himself with the team or teammate. Perfect counter to someone who is as demanding as Nando is.
But the chances of seeing Kimi back in red are slim
I think he probably has his perfect team mate now. THey like the same set up in the car and Massa is slower than him.
Team obviously didn't agree though. I think Massa deserves to take on Vettel's "rubbish overtaker" title. He's nowhere near aggressive enough.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Kimi in a Red Bull next year.
I agree, but Ferrari does not. Chances of Massa staying there doesn't look very good.
It'd fit him well. Vettel is the only person on the planet that I know Kimi likes to talk to.
I am not so sure of that. I love the idea of Kubica going there but I can't see Alonso being in favour of that.
Don't they play badminton? Did I pluck that out of a weird imaginary world?
The problem is the cars. THe only person who can overtake in them is Lewis.
As a Ferrari fan, I'd love Kubica there. Robert is amazingly talented.
I have never heard that before.
I think he is fast enough to unsettle Alonso
He can also take Trulli's train title.
After seeing Raikkonen dig his own car out, I think I'd believe anything.
I can't find anything proper anymore other than this annoyingly Italian dubbed interview. I think I haven't made up the badminton thing though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yneCZ7LTG34&feature=related
So sorry for all the fuss with the poll. I would correct it, except that I am quite fail at coding. So please use Alison's method of
to vote. Thank you.
No he is not. He has metioned it many times through his racing career (even before F1). It is not a immediate goal, however.
That is why I thought Ferrari had meant for Kimi - Alonso, only to be saddles with Felipe after Hungary.
This has made him my new favourite, badminton aside.
Easy
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/01/raikkonen-feels-that-f1-is-on-the-wrong-track/
Yes they do regularly play badminton. And apparently Seb always gets thrashed. Kimi does state that he is improving though.
No problem. We know how it is done now and I am sure people will keep voting all day
Lewis is your favourite?
Woohoo for Lewis!
I would pay to see this... Two akward pale guys playing badmitton. How does this not spell win.
Sounds like a lot of my school years
Do the Doctor Who fans know there is going to be a live show?
http://www.thestage.co.uk/news/newsstory.php/28231/doctor-who-live-show-announced?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+TheStageNews+(News+Headlines)
I am protesting the poll because I like coke zero.
I had to pick tap water even though I prefer bottled =(
I cannot empathise, bottled water makes me laugh :D
We have very bad tap water in Washington DC. Not advisable to drink it.
Yeah, Nick can't drink his tap water. Because it's desalinated, there's epic amounts of salt in it, it's really bad for you.
Ooh another reason for me not to move to Dubai! I like living where I can drink the tap water because I really like water and I'm quite cheap.
Although, isn't the whole point of desalination the removal of the salt? Maybe Nick should tell the water people their plant is broken.
It's usable. I drank it by accident without thinking. It doesn't taste funny or anything. I just think it's very bad for you.
Ah, i'm not quite sure science would agree with you.
It's just supposed to be suitable for you to use in your shower, washing machine etc. You're not supposed to drink it.
Ah ok, everything I have read about it goes on about the whole point of it being so the water is fresh and fit for human consumption. They are building a plant here since we are stupidly droughty.
This water is a "waste" product of aluminium production. Also I'm not sure they're so hot on legal protection for the consumer.
Anyways, I really have to sleep now.
I don't seem to be able to vote in the pole...
got it!
The aus media is officially now in a mark webber frenzy.
same problem, I even tried different browsers ..
You have to go to "View Results", then scroll down to "Vote Now".
I voted for Tap Water
Morning.
Red Bull. Anything else is heresy!
I wouldn't say no to a can of Red Bull, but I'd be thinking about that Tap Water.
Actually, I usually have a glass of water handy to have after the Red Bull...
oh... this is not the most user friendly poll ever , especially with that ugly "Tips for flat belly" ad pasted all over the page :-)
Gotta love those ads!
It really isn't... Luckily Alison worked it out in the middle of the night!
oh no, I did it again ... poured coffee in my mug not realizing that 5 mins before that cup house peppermint tea, the tea bag is still there ... peppermint coffee anyone ?
Urrrgh... It doesn't seem to be an option on the voting form
I just realised that there was tea and tap water on the end of the list but no coffee... I probably would have voted coffee to be honest. I drink a LOT of coffee!
coffee is not a drink, coffee is one of the pleasures of life :-)
just read an article about a guy in - fake pilot. ... amazing
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/sweden/7733861/Fake-pilot-who-flew-for-13-years-without-licence-fined-1700.html
I am back after an impromptu shopping trip.
I know. I am so sorry. Christine is supposed to teach me how to make a poll though, so I promise it will not be so phail next time. ;)
Options came up in the discussion last night. Sorry that I wasn't inspired enough to think of my own (or maybe the C family does not have these drinks in supply?)
Seconded. Along with hot chocolate.
How so?
I like this guy. Sounds really cool.
Flash Forward has been cancelled: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment_and_arts/10119621.stm
That's it, I have officially given up on TV shows!
Not exactly fake, then, is he. Unlicensed, yes, fake, no. :D
Yup, as are a LOT of shows. Heroes, Law and Order, and of course, Lost.
How I Met Your Mother is good. But there's a reason I don't watch TV outside of F1 as much as I used to.
I know. Heartbroken too. There goes my dose of Jack Davenport. :(
I thought Lost was ending?
What I get annoyed with are these shows, which are kind of interesting, but drip feed you to keep you hooked. Then because they are so slow, they end up getting cancelled.
What a waste of time - FF drags on so much that I reckon you could have put the whole series into a movie. Seeing as the only other alternative are shows with corpses or reality shows, I think I'm done with TV!
about 3x as much coverage as usual, and Brabham saying someting along the lines of 'Mark is doing well, he could be champion but there is a long way to go in the season' is being given the headline "Brabham: WEBBER WILL BE CHAMPION"
LOST wasn't cancelled.
Just like most countries' media with their own stars/teams then?
the 5th season has lost a lot of its spark :(
pretty much. It's just odd for down here because Webber has always been so mediocre :D
Oh. So not cancelled, but it's ending the series, right?
I really wanted to like FF, but I gave up after 4 episodes, it just couldn't keep me hooked. Shame, the previews for it looked so good
I have been given a DVD of 'The Big Bang Theory' - which is quite funny (and some of the characters are very close to whom I studied with!)
But there isn't much outside of sports that I watch on TV - even with me just getting an HD box it hasn't got me interested...
Welcome to Lewis-mania, Aussie-style. :D
All this hype makes me think Webber will throw up a stink in Turkey...
a victim of its own success? with it getting renewed for another season, they have to extend the series without really giving up too much of the main storyline...
It's just too damn slow. 58 minutes of mush and re-hashed sequences from previous episodes, 2 minutes of story and then BANG! over.
And I think that's why it's getting cancelled - a lot of people feel that way.
pretty much, I think they needed to do a Lost and say 'right, we will do X more seasons' and then actually start getting towards the end. I always liked Barney but he has become a complete walking parody of himself, he used to have some quite good plots but now it's just "heh, I like suits and women, I will now make a "witty" one liner about one of these two things"
not surprised about Heroes either, I really liked the first season but the second failed to keep my interest. I had no idea they were up to season four.
True about Barney to a certain extent, but the subtle hints I'm seeing are telling me I shouldn't give up on his character juuuust yet.
I lasted two episodes and thought "well it's a drip-feeder, I think I'll avoid that one".
Not sure why I wanted to watch FF in all honesty.
I recently wondered what I have missed so read a few recaps of the next few episodes after I gave up. Even the recaps didn't hold my interest :D
The plot does proceed at snail's pace. In fact, just by reading online synopsis, you can actually have a better picture of what is going on then watching the episodes slowly crawl pass.
But I love watching Jack and Dom act. :P
On that note,
Here's a roundup of Fox's new offerings.
Apparently, Ross Brawn is not an confident as he first appeared to be:
http://www.thef1times.com/news/display/01109
http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=368479&FS=F1
From the way the plot is going they can hardly make another series though.
Is it worth watching until the end of the series?
the pink dinosaur?
Doogie.
Depends what you're into
It's a standard PR line. They'll only confirm it once it's filed at the FIA. To be honest, I don't see why they shouldn't appeal. Michael's ended up with no points from Monaco, anyway. Not like there's much else he could lose...
Like most US series the second half is better than the first.
It's all about the sweeps.
You need to file the appeal within 48 hours. I say that they are cutting it really close.
Can't it be about good telly?
I love Tony Fernandes. Love. LOOOOOVE.
Hmmm. Given that the penalty was released around 6 PM Monaco time, they still have a lot of time left.
Not enough budget, apparently...
Get booking! :P
I am so tempted to book a flight to KL because $129 is SUPER CHEAP but what if the grand prix isn't when I'm assuming it is? :D
I guess what I am asking is, will I feel like I have seen a bit of a story? I don't mind a cliffhanger ending, just wanna know a little more.
My biggest issue with FF is this idea that everyone seems to have seen something they don't like, yet feel powerless to avoid it and drift towards it like they can't change fate?
Plus I seem to be able to pick what's going to happen before it does...
I say go for it - at the very least the rule gets clarified...
Oh BTW, GMM.
Exactly. And given the general reaction, I think they'll even get brownie points in the press and fans from it.
Yup, although I did see the quoted comment from their PR on the ESPNF1 website (non-GMM), so it should be fine.
Cheers. Although in this case, I don't doubt the story as if they file it, it will be on the deadline so as to gather as much info on the case...
Well as they say, the only way to know is to watch it. I quite liked it.
That's right.
I'll try and stick it out until the bitter end then.
But on the other hand if you're not into it there's no point wasting your time with something you don't like
eeek return flight for $268, so tempted to take the punt
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DOOOO. I'm so not a gambler.
hmmm. that IS quite a gamble. wish i could help, but i'm not much of a gambler, either. :D
but $268 is so much cheaper than $800 or so return like it normally is, eeeeek.
I'm indifferent... maybe that's worse?
Yeah I think so - the good stuff you either like or you don't, if you don't care then they haven't done their job...
It's an interesting animal, the US TV show. For some reason, they seem terrified of the idea of telling a finite story. One or two seasons maximum.
ooh it appears I can change my flights by paying the fare difference, so even if I get my dates wrong the $268 could kind of be a deposit for a dearer flight at the right time.
Morning :)
US TV networks are so frustrating. A slight dip in the ratings and the best shows are cancelled, grrrrrrrrrr.
I don't trust any of them after Firefly :(
Same for me with Arrested Development. Damned networks. Programmes seem to go on for ever here even when the quality sucks (see: My Family) yet over there it's always a tightrope balance for most shows...
Australia is the same as the US, just with the US shows. If things don't rate the first week they will move it to 2am the second or cancel it all together. They don't give anything a chance because the ratings are too important to them.
The only one I think they actually had at all was the West Wing which was always set to run for 7 seasons (two terms of presidency... Well 8 years is two terms but the show started at the end of the first year of the presidency).
The reason ratings are so important to them is revenue. I just learned last week that the rates networks charge for advertising is directly tied to the ratings of their shows. The stronger the ratings are, the better position they have to charge more...
They might do that here but I don't ever watch tv when it's on (except F1)
Seems like the interesting shows don't get popular, so they move them to the insomniac hour so they can cancel them later. Sadly, TV shows are too much about the money they make these days.
Get a DVD of an old TV and look at how much better they are - you will be surprised!
I suspect BBC doesn't need to do it as much (not reliant on ad money), but perhaps other networks do?
*An old TV Show sorry!
BBC have done it with US shows in the past but they seem to have stopped that thanks to BBC3 and whatnot
bahhhh air asia don't want my money. If you're going to have a big sale, get servers "like google"!
BBC still make a lot of money from selling TV Shows overseas. On Danish TV on Saturday they had the segment from the Winter Olympics where the silly Skiing commentator man tried out the Skeleton. It was packaged as a half hour programme. Then there's Doctor Who, Top Gear Etc...
The BBC most certainly do. I wrote about this a while back: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2008/07/16/the-news-i-was-dreading/
Not sure if this has been posted, but here's Damon Hill's thoughts on the reaction to Schumi's penalty.
too expensive. ;) if you don't want it bad enough, someone else will get it.
apologies for going back to it again but that sounds incredible similar to how they treated Arrested Development. They bought the rights to it after beating off Channel 4 or Sky, then put one Episode at about 9pmish one evening with no advertising whatsoever then pushed it later the next week then about 2am the week later in double bill episodes to get it out the way, then it was never seen again on the BBC a few weeks later. Really upsets me to know they do that though because it really is a fabulous show...
They've done it with other shows too but they have survived. Family Guy and American Dad were both pushed into the graveyard slots before BBC3 was introduced and then became big parts of the BBC3 evening line up.
eeeeeeeehehehe booking confirmation! Now lets all cross our fingers the F1 2011 calendar likes me :D
Very very good F1 2010 hands-on from Gamespot: http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/driving/f12010/news.html?sid=6262656&tag=topslot;thumb;2
haha! what weekend are you betting on?
As for the news of the latest team rumored to try for the 13th grid spot all I can say is.......... (*deep and long groan*)............. oh no... not again. {Comment #1}
To be fair, the USF1 project showed that running a F1 team from America was entirely possible provided the management is competent. If Cypher has got that step right, then they've got as much chance as any other new team.
Of course, due to USF1, nobody is going to believe them until they can prove it.
1-3 of April going on the theory that Melbourne will be last weekend of March again and Malaysia will be a back-to-back.
And from the Daily Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/michael-schumacher/7734059/Damon-Hill-admits-to-receiving-hate-mail-from-Michael-Schumacher-fans-after-Monaco-GP.html
Vettelwantstogo to Ferrari. Is he insane? {Comment #24}
Maranello seems to be as magnetic as ever...
Is the last weekend of March the DST switchover weekend in the UK? If yes, I like your chances.
Your only possible concern might be Korea, and if it's moved around in the calendar.
Most of them do it to some extent, apart from Five which relies on things like FF, CSI and NCIS for 8-11pm programming..
To be fair, the only driver of recent times who's stated that he wants to stay where he is for the long-term is Lewis. It's almost impossible NOT to be interested in Ferrari.
And I disagree with Steven - I think he wants Kubica there rather than Massa. They're good friends, they have similar driving styles (so it's easier to share data that makes sense), and I think Alonso is confident enough that he can beat Kubica.
The perfect teammate for Alonso I'd say would be Kimi. Kimi doesn't care and is very nonchalant. He only cares about himself, doesn't bother himself with the team or teammate. {Comment #31}
Ferrari needed someone who does care about the team and not just himself. Lack of mutual understanding was impairing the speed of both team and driver.
the "Bookings made with this fare only permit flight changes more than 48 hours prior to scheduled departure for a specified fee per guest persector, plus any applicable difference in airfare" makes me feel OK, it won't be $268 totally down the drain :)
also #dontlookmrandmrsc
Wouldn't be surprised to see Kimi in a Red Bull next year. {Comment #35}
I would - purely because he's enjoying the rallying too much. I can see him making a second career for himself there and maybe winning a title or two.
Ahhh. The calendar comes out by November anyway.
well, that is more less where he ended up this year ...
I don't think I agree with that... USF1 proved it was possible to attract good staff, they haven't proven it was possible to run the team..
Don't they play badminton? Did I pluck that out of a weird imaginary world? {Comment #39}
I know Vettel plays table tennis, but I've not seen him play badminton yet. I have no idea what preferences, if any, Alonso has regarding racket sports.
You are very scary.
I like (possibly) saving $600!
I am protesting the poll because I like coke zero. {Comment #59}
I prefer fruit juices and rarely/never drink any of the drinks in the poll.
It's a standard PR line. They'll only confirm it once it's filed at the FIA. To be honest, I don't see why they shouldn't appeal. Michael's ended up with no points from Monaco, anyway. Not like there's much else he could lose... {Comment #121}
The court fee? Especially since the most probable outcome is for the appeal to be declared inadmissible because otherwise the entire appeals process will have to be rewritten to codify how appeals of this kind will be dealt with.
You need to file the appeal within 48 hours. I say that they are cutting it really close. {Comment #124}
The FIA is not obliged to declare that an appeal is filed in that time limit, so if Mercedes are waiting for the FIA to tell the world we may be waiting a while.
Perhaps, but I don't think that's expensive enough for it to be a reason for them not to file it, surely?
Why would Mercedes wait for the FIA, though?
Not sure if this has been posted, but here's Damon Hill's thoughts on the reaction to Schumi's penalty. {Comment #163}
I can partly see where Damon is coming from there. Although ex-drivers have a role to play in explaining to stewards how racers react to particular events on the circuit and maybe remind them of how particular incidents were handled in their day, the trained and experienced stewards should be the ones to decide on points of law. If ex-drivers are being expected to know the points of law as well, they need to be trained accordingly and judging from Damon's comments that hasn't happened.
It's an unfortunate coincidence.
F1GPupdate has an article on the Schumi Alo thing, here is their take on the appeal:
But the way I see it, if the decision is overturned, doesn't that effectively nullify the penalty, because the decision that caused said penalty has effectively been voided?
Perhaps, but I don't think that's expensive enough for it to be a reason for them not to file it, surely? {Comment #189}
It is if there's almost certainly going to be no benefit whatsoever. After all, if the appeal is declared inadmissible, the FIA has no incentive to tidy up the regulations in that area.
Why would Mercedes wait for the FIA, though? {Comment #190}
Courtesy? (Please don't all laugh at once, and yes I am clutching at straws).
that would probably be what logic says, but remember, the rules are written by FIA ...
But the way I see it, if the decision is overturned, doesn't that effectively nullify the penalty, because the decision that caused said penalty has effectively been voided? {Comment #194}
I think it would have to. Absent a reason for the penalty, it is liable to challenge in a court of law. Mercedes might not bother for something this small but another team might in a future situation, so the FIA has to defend against that possibility.
:D
In other "Amy is planning flights" news, I just selected window seats for all my flights to London and back. I love window seats.
ooh the PSN Video network downloady thingy is launching in Australia on Thursday. This might make me a little more MFC/a little less piratey.
Only 2 years or so late then!
yay Sony! :D
For Lukeh: http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2010/5/10806.html
Yay!
Q: What’s the most embarrassing mistake you’ve ever made?
RB: The one I remember most was when I asked a friend of ours how pregnant she was and she replied that she wasn’t pregnant at all, just fat. I was truly embarrassed
:D:D:D
When I was on my honeymoon the place was perfect - probably too perfect! The big yellow sun, the beautiful blue sea, all serene and quiet, so I put shampoo on the bathroom floor and my wife almost fell into the bathtub. That was very funny and made me feel guilty.
Big ol' meanie. :)
He does make me laugh :)
He and Heikki should go golfing together!
so thats one vote for Coke.
I've just seen a picture of Christian Horner with not a great deal on sitting on an F1 car.
AAAAAAAAH MAKE THE IMAGE GO AWAY!!
Morning all ;)
Teams are looking at changing the way the race weekend is set up and cutting losses going from race to race
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83716
they want to change the calendar just because they know I booked a flight today. They're sooo selfish. :D
one of the groups on Australia's Got Talent is dancing to a Westlife song. Brian is enjoying it way too much.
Blimey, are they mad? They want to mess with the calendar after tickets have already gone on sale and think this will improve sales??
Plug: Dude, Where's My Article?
Such a nice day outside, time for a walk me thinks. Anyone want anything from Greggs? :P
do they do desserty pastry things?
Ooh, yes, the usual please.
I'm not sure. But they do do gingerbread men
I looked up the website, I'd like one of these please.
Ooh, having a website is one step away from online delivery.
I put my postcode into the store finder, it says "There are no stores near that location"
Note to self: find one in London, get a doughnut.
I've just seen a picture of Christian Horner with not a great deal on sitting on an F1 car.
AAAAAAAAH MAKE THE IMAGE GO AWAY!! {Comment #209}
I thought I'd told Keith I could live without seeing that...
Teams are looking at changing the way the race weekend is set up and cutting losses going from race to race {Comment #210}
That requires cheaper tickets and, in some cases, better-planned calenders, which in turn requires Bernie to accept he can't have all the money and power. It's not something the teams can really change.
Blimey, are they mad? They want to mess with the calendar after tickets have already gone on sale and think this will improve sales?? {Comment #213}
They're not on sale for 2011 yet are they? That would be daft in advance of a calender (even a provisional one).
:) :)
hearts kimi!
Your eagle-eyed iWitness spotted Kimi Raikkonen in the Monaco harbour today. The former Ferrari driver, who won this race in 2005, didn’t leave his boat and he didn’t come into the F1 paddock. But he did manage to join the ladies in the Amber Lounge last night...
hates f1. likes boats and women :) :)

and inflatable dolphins.
?
Wonder what Jenni thinks to that?
i like manipe's plan to avoid "gate": http://www.manipef1.com/blog/articles/24/
indeed, the story even made it to his official F1.com profile.Spanish media gleefully reported that the vodka-loving Flying Finn was found lying fast asleep outside a bar embracing an inflatable rubber dolphin
Everytime I picture it in my mind I start laughing.
litepanels have a new light out... although not a panel: http://www.litepanels.com/lp/products/sola_led_fresnel.html
still want it.
he needs some points for that!
That doesn't look like it would blind me at all. Nu uh.

Fresnel lenses are awesome!
see christine?

does anyone else browse Digital Spy from time to time? I'm totally put off by the website now. The new layout geniunely makes me confused and lost when trying to find my way around it,
I do. I like the font on the articles better now (don't tell Mr C) but I know what you mean about navigation.
The news is just a giiiaaannnt list! And I just don't know where to go to find subsections like Dr Who stuff anymore!
Always look for the purple quick links thing underneath the main navigations. Without them it would be unusable.
Make sure you let them know: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/contact/
It's new, they're bound to still be tweaking.
Oooh will do
Jenson and Rubens!!!! :D:D:D
http://twitpic.com/1ouw7j
I'm not sure they can get away with calling that a picture of Jenson and Lewis!
There are a few more people than they think!
Anyways the main focus is definitely Jenson and Rubens anyways ;)
It really is. I see Jenson and a headless Lewis.
I like how headless Lewis is still talking to Sutil :)
Rubens looks tiny!
I think I can see the back of a very tiny Heikki as well so... Amy will be pleased. :)
I see him!
It's like an F1 Where's Wally trying to find different drivers :D
That would be an awesome book.
Introducing, our new range of books for kids: Where's Heikki?
he was the first thing I looked for :)
I've seen the Top Gear "Where's Stig?" book, you could just buy that and colour the helmets all different :D
how odd, I just randomly went to the Singapore ticket website to see what sort of seats in my grandstand they are allocating and the system decided the best available ticket is the one RIGHT NEXT TO MINE.
I think this is a sign someone should come with me :D
or that no-one is buying f1 tickets except you?
ooh a grandstand to myself, just like last time!
It does seem slightly suspect that the "best available" 3 months ago is right next to the best available now, I'm sure at least one other person must have bought a ticket since then.
Computer program to find best seat...
"Find any open seats next to the most awesome person available"
i wouldn't bet on it. monaco was empty. i've never seen so many unfilled seats there on a sunday.
:)
sweet. I hate sitting next to people.
and we don't have to worry about spa tickets until the week before.
I hope that you didn't see that I've already booked my flight to Malaysia for April next year.
%$£* @%%!
Tony made me do it! He had an amazing sale! Then he tweeted about it so I knew it was happening!
tony is selling gp tickets?
oh flights. i see. how amazing?
I have been given this most amazing scenery calendar. There's just one problem - it doesn't tell you where the picture was taken...
$268 return. Normal price range is about $700-$800. If I fly Malaysia Airlines those same dates the cheapest currently available is $1036.
how do you know when the gp will be?
I took a shot in the dark based on historical data. If I'm wrong I can change my flights and pay the difference in fare and I'll be back where I would have been if I waited for the calendar in the first place. That's win/win!
uh-huh. that sounds completely loopy.
I'm just really, really cheap. :D
you just gave tony $268 in return for nothing for a whole year. cheap was the word that came to mind ;)
*wasn't
that's like... half an ipad.
rather that than give him $1000 in 11 months time!
that makes ipads sound very expensive :D
:)
is 2pm too early to start drinking?
:)
I;ve been drinking since 11am!
Granted, it's orange juice...
of course not
Not in Denmark!
that may not be string enough. although it probably does the same damage.
Hello everyone!
I just came across some very disturbing news: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/2977570/Darts-star-Mervyn-King-could-have-been-an-F1-driver.html
Has he never looked at himself in the mirror? How can any car with him in it travel fast? :P
Like this is an actual choice: https://twitter.com/VirginRacing/status/14225449478
Two words - Nigel mansell :P
Mercedes have given up on Water-schumacher
Oi!
It's Montoya who ate all the Paella, anyway ;)
hehehehe
and w00t!
In a way it's a shame - as it would have led to a clarification on the rule. I hope this still happens...
isn't this an admission of wrongdoing? so there's your clarification.
one of our guests has an ipad. He put it on the empty table next to his in our restaurant ...
Oooh. Where did you manage to find that out from? I was just searching for news on that.
Well yes it is I suppose. But the FIA have no incentive to clarify the rule now I guess...
Being shared on twitter from Autosport peoples, the report will be up soon apparently
Ping: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/05/18/life-in-the-fast-lane-ii-part-10/
are you commenting on it now?
Thanks, shall go search. ;)
Yayy!!!
a-HA! so you are coming
coming to spa. undecided if we want to pay bernie anything. if they don't sell out we can delay the decision indefinitely.
well... at least until the race starts.
From the Merc statement:
The FIA has agreed to include article 40.13 on the agenda of the next Sporting Working Group for discussion and to consider the scale of post race penalties
http://www.mercedes-gp.com/en/#/s/news/130/2010-monaco-grand-prix-statement
ross brawn didn't win something. i am shocked.
Cool. And you can always just do Friday.
spa isn't the best place to try and jump the fence, is it?
Will they let you in if you say 'But I'm Amy!'?
You could go in for Friday and errrm hide?
i'm not sure i can carry that off.
I would rather spend my money on chocolate, please.
I'd think it was the best. Longest track, middle of nowhere
Fair point
You have a renault cap, not a mclaren one
well, I don't know your real name, they probably don't either.
friday isn't free though is it?
am trying not to celebrate mediocrity, by giving bernie money for providing a second rate show.
the police are mentalists though aren't they? with dogs.
we could convince Shell that you really want to write about fuel again?
hehehehe! that could work. no we're not interested in silverstone... can we go to spa instead?
I'm telling you, chocolate.
not necessarily. in any case, they may be basing this on the fact that lewis' appeal from spa 08 was deemed inadmissible last time round, regardless of what case they had.
I'm not sure how you're going to smuggle in enough warm things to "hide" effectively though :P
wha?
and waffles and chips with mayo? Gosh, I'm going to get soo fat in Belgium.
All of that, yes please.
if people could do it at monza, why not spa? :D
Oh yeah.
Oh, I went invisible again, didn't I?
no. i just don't understand wot you wrote.
Belgium's wet and freezing?
i don't do outside. are any hotel's inside the circuit?
Nick has ordered ipad. I've decided it should live at my house. I'm trying to break it to him gently.
Belgium, famous for chocolate (and beer).
i see. so we're going shopping instead?
Exactly! Less police going around. ;)
I said:
but apparently the food inside the track can be good, see here: http://twitter.com/Deltachild/status/13192168851
oh right.
yeah, you're invisible.
Chocolate > Bernie.
So... if you read the article, did you read between the lines? The last paragraph should be a good hint of what I mean. ;)
chocolate > f1
Merchandise stalls should sell chocolate Bernies
Chocolat!!
Dmn you I Love You Man affecting my mind...
most things > f1
afternoon all
i read it as: "we're not starting in bahrain ever again"
but going back, very disappointing that they decided to drop the appeal. i do wonder though when Alonso's luck will run out... he's managed to come out of every controversy he's been involved in on the winning/not-losing side. it's amazing, really.
but he was in the right here.
i read it as: "there better be a USGP next year."
and for the record, i think we're still starting in bahrain next year.
personally, i don't think so. but there ya go.
not going to happen. bernie wants to much money and the US doesn't need f1.
really? after all the "f1 is boring" press?
So did I. There won't be one though.
c'mon, if there was a sliver of a chance of victory, brawn would've taken it. he convinces people black is white.
It would have been unfair to take back the penalty though. Alonso did nothing wrong so why should he lose a position and the associated points?
The problem in my eyes is a disproportionate punishment to the crime especially considering how unclear the regulations appeared originally.
I dont think he was in the right or in the wrong, unlike most of the other controversies he's been in, he had nothing to do with it and so the worst that could happen is he loose a place and that wouldnt have been a big deal
They'll change it back to the other layout
it'll still be boring. it's a flat race in a desert.
i don't think the layout had much to do with it.
i'm not saying it will happen, i'm just saying the teams want it. what else can you pair up with Canada?
yup. partly because i think bahrain wants it more than australia does. and partly because amy will almost certainly have to pay extra for her flights if bahrain is moved back to its original position.
i think it had a lot to do with it. the old layout produced decent racing. nothing stellar, but decent. the new layout, though, was just unwatchable.
*and I'm rooting for Amy. :D
not enough to warrant an opening place on the calendar.
two races in canada?
yay!
oops!
true. but i still think the reason bernie's more inclined to give it to them is TV ratings - more people can watch a Bahrain season-opener than an Australian season-opener.
It used to be mediocre, now it is dire. Track's fault.
the logistics of it are ludicrous. i don't think he'll be able to swing it again. i bet it costs him more in freight too.
And then never watch another race again because it sucked?
possible (Montreal is only the 3rd Canadian GP venue), but unlikely.
the regulations inhibit decent racing on any track.
true.
it's already the 2nd time he did it.
and it actually produces freight savings for some. some F1 folks left their freight stuff in Abu Dhabi after the last race of 2009. so it's only a few hours drive up the road to Bahrain for the first race of 2010. i know the Kangaroo people did it. some of the FOM people too.
but then how many casual fans would get up at 6 AM to watch F1?
the carry over must be tiny. plus you need more gap between two races in the same region than 3 months of off-season.
replay. 1pm
They'd have stood a better chance on the old one
i don't think 2 or 3 weeks would make that much difference, really. ;)
but i do get your point on the carryover.
i just don't believe it. i know the new one wasn't better. i think the outcome would've been almost exactly the same though.
anyway, gotta go home. be back in a bit.
it's more than that. if you do aus > mal > china > bah > spain
I'm off to work now. Have a good evening :)
Bye Journeyer and Alison!
so 4 months rather than 3...? i don't think it'll make that much difference, anyhow.
which to my mind is logistically the most efficient.
5 months
in fact japan should be in there too. then end then season canada > brazil
Bernie must be as good at geography as I am.
It makes sense to me in terms of a stop on the way out to Australia. I'm sure it helped the new teams a lot too, being nearer, they could fly stuff out last-minute.
hehe. the whole calendar is a hopeless mess. where is he fitting india in? that should be part of the early flyaways.
it doesn't, because it takes time to get stuff over to australia. enough time for people to go home. so it's not a stop over. it's a go to and then go back home.
start at the furthest point, fly everyone out there and get back as fast as possible.
India will fit in excellently between canada and britain to allow easy access between each race and cause general mayhem for bernie to act like nothing is wrong
The field would've been closer, whether they'd actually pass is debatable but they'd have been nearer to trying
:D
i don't believe it sadly. call me jaded, but the place is a disaster for racing.
This is... odd.
http://www.radio1chart.co.uk/
the concept? itunes top 40 is killing them.
More info: http://hughgarry.typepad.com/hugh_garry/2010/05/radio-1-top-40-visualisation.html
Firefox does NOT like me visiting that site! Maybe its for the best... :)
It's a bit bobbly.
"the Chart Show on Sunday is still a massive pull"
but we're loosing out to itunes...
heheheh!
To all 6 people that it matters to, sure
Ah good point..
That makes more sense. Start in the East, spend summer in Europe, finish in the West
the perfect calendar
true enough.. the one wasn't the worst though
it's just no place to start a season.
I said on a voicemail before that bahrain will forever only be remembered by me because of that giant tower it has. Everything else about bahrain is just incredibly unremarkable. Such a dull circuit no matter the configuration
For me when you say Bahrain I think Lewis crashing into the back of, was it Alonso? i forget. Probably not the best memory i should have of a track!
I've seen some good GP2 races on it. I've also seen some bad ones.
Just no atmosphere comes through the screen, no sense of the place. Get Jealous Alex did a better job in a few blog posts than six years of F1.
:)
Lady Snowcat too I believe
The only thing that's brought local character to the viewer were those little inserts the BBC put in with the countdown clock last year. I don't even know if they still do 'em
Joe has released a rather large amount of comments on the orig.article and on the 'thoughts' one
oh my goodness thats alot!
This incident is making lots of people emotional. Autosport Forums initially closed a thread about it, then had to re-open it when they got hundreds of comments on the general Monaco thread.
really, wow?!
actually, ignore that.
oh wow :)
might've been about the schumi thing.
we said somewhere the day schumi announced his return that no good will come of it.
No doubt in my mind.
It wouldn't have had the media coverage if it weren't for him. Or the no of comments here frankly.
We said that a lot of times. :)
lee's take on the schumi thing: http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/formula-1-news/235100/lee-mckenzie-column-let-s-start-at-the-end/
seems to spend most of the post talking about herself.
i have the answer to joe's commenting problem.
get "intern amy" to moderate them.
I await a Dan Brown book that implements that message into some of life's most historic moments
pretty sure it was in a Churchill speech
i got to the end!
Thank you silent majority!
I feel a great deal better now.
w00t!
Very very old Ted News from Monaco FP3.
listen to it here.
You didn't read them all??
basically, yeah.
I read about six saying: we love you Joe. Then I scrolled to the end.
I might when I get home..
but i'd bet this is exactly what bernie wanted - and he got it.
hi all.
YES! :D
Hooray! :D
Non-SPC-shoutout soundbite of the season. :D
Afternoon all.
I started writing a blog entry about the whole Schumacher-safety car thing yesterday but decided not to bother with it. Mrs C and I are off to stay with her sister in France for a few days, and since I'll be sans laptop I wouldn't be in a position to deal with the flood of comments that would no doubt ensue!
Apple Store said £129+VAT to replace the HD on a like-for-like basis. I said nuts to that – get one twice the size from Amazon for £40 and fit it myself.
If you can summarize it in a sentence, you can post it here. Just curious what you think of it.
:D Heh. Too true.
I heaped scorn on the theory that Damon was getting his own back for Adelaide '94 – bunking Michael from sixth to 12th was hardly a proportionate righting of the wrong, was it? My main thrust was suggesting – since every team has at least one savant on the pitwall who knows the Sporting Regs backwards – that Ross Brawn knew there was a grey area and was exploring what he could get away with (after all, on Sunday this was about a battle for sixth place – but one day it could be about a win).
I know – two sentences.
A very, very good point. And let's face it - would Nico be the guy exploring those grey areas? Not in a million years. ;)
But still packed with a ton of insight. :)
The third event took place in Monaco on Friday, onboard one of Tony Hewitt’s Monacokool yachts, which was moored near the chicane. It was rather more exclusive (read expensive!) than previous Audiences, with former F1 winner Johnny Herbert joining in the fun, along with photographer Keith Sutton, who popped by with some of his models and regaled the party with takes of some of his photographic exploits, plus an unexpected drop-ins from F1 Race Director Charlie Whiting and his assistant Herbie Blash.
WOW
Joes thing, clearly.
Talk about bang for your buck. It don't get much better than that! *VERY VERY jealous*
Well, indeed. Very glad these things are a success, although not entirely surprised because Joe is a very amusing raconteur.
Perhaps he should lay on a guest appearance from DT! [Grrrr!]
Hehe. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet! :)
holy flippin' smokes!!
awesome!
understatement. ;)
Speaking of which, have you convinced Joe to have one at Spa? ;)
- saward
- sutton
- herbert
- whiting
- blash
oh, and some models!
bassano tried i think. not sure if we'll be there, so would be unfair to hassle.
oh wow, wow, wow:
http://www.morienval.com/images/708_dmk1015my02.jpg
so joe's photography lineup for his audience events:
- lou johnson
- keith sutton
omg! is that Sutton standing in the background?!!!!!
hello..
Heheh. Lou is in some esteemed company. :D
he took the picture, i assume?
not the one you posted if he's in it. :P
fair point. someone who works for him?
http://www.morienval.com/anaudiencewithjoe.html
i hope that isn't the last time our names are put together :)
ahh, yes. that is a real possibility.
am confused, does keith just wander around the paddock with models in tow?
the guy sanding with a rucksack over his shoulder and a black cap with orange on it.. looks like Keith Sutton... maybe Mark took the pic?
hehehe. i'd have thought not. this is monaco, though...
what's quite scary is i read every comment on joe's blog post, but not though post.
it's like joe's very own daily :)
no.. he works too..
http://www.sutton-images.com/preview.asp?filename=d10mon1418.jpg
... well kinda :D
only you don;'t read every comment in the spc daily?
bah! i used to.
a very long time ago.
:P
ehehe have i ever said how much i heart Darren Heath..he replied again :)
'@f1_lou Not me in the Red Bull pool.Actually really bad form by the Getty snappers to ruin all other photographer's pics. No respect.'
he doesn't seem too happy :(
getty have the official red bull contract
could you reply and point that out, i think he likes you more :)
Wonder what he meant by ruin, though...
was in shot
will do! (anything for a mini convo with Darren..)
my comment is in moderation, but i've volunteered amy to be joe's intern (sort of).
oops.
Hi all
Wild guess based on nothing. All the other photographers had the podium/champagne shots then Getty go and get the shots in the pool which everyone would buy in preference because they are unusual
ooooooooooh
It may be a wild guess, but it makes a heck of a lot of sense.
that's business though. anyone can get wet if they want to.
I read his comment as not being entirely serious but maybe that is just me
while we are on the topic...
Andy Hone's latest pics are also brilliant
http://www.andrewhone.com/portfolio/2010_f1_galleries/f1__2010__monaco_gp
ooo how scary... Andy Hone and Emily Davenport in the same picture..
http://www.sutton-images.com/preview.asp?filename=d10esp284.jpg
:D
Don't forget the drinks poll. Surprisingly we have joint leaders and none of them is an unnamed energy drink
http://www.luckypolls.com/index.php?act=07&id=18642
Make that a single leader...
Hey folks
i didn't realise jake was reading tweets directly from his ipad:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2010/05/breakfast_of_champions_in_mona.html
franck has x4 broken ribs? he raced at assen like that?
Has he been playing football again? He seems to get better results when he has the odd broken bone.
@mr c: mobile doohickey could use a space between the date and the poster. just sayin. :-)
I can't find any reference to this in English or French anywhere
hmmm, there is one already?
2secs.
ehehehe a Mclaren video i actually kinda like :)

"four broken ribs, in three weeks"
the man is a walking calamity
oh goodness me!
i like that they're recording it at the same time and can hear each others answers.
which one goes first though?
He did 70% of his car's mileage at Spa with 4 broken ribs after his team mate bailed because he had broken ribs??
looks like 2 different locations to me?
is that not jenson laughing in the background of lewis'?
i didn't really listen to Lewis... i check..
That was on their site around the start of the season
At one point Jenson agrees with one of Lewis's answers
you tune him out?
the stubble question. i may not be jb, but it sounds like he's sat next to him/
i thought they were looking over at each other
i think that's what he's saying.
montagny is a machine.
YAY FOR FRANCK.
Why do Peugeot drivers always break bones just before a race? Training be must be tough.
no... not really.. i just... don't listen that much.. i find that way he is less annoying..
oh.. see to me it looks like they are in different rooms.. the lighting is different and at the end the camera spins round in the room JBs in and it doesn't looks like there would be space for Lewis..
The Terminator's new slogan - I'll Be Franck
:D
ooh, hello, i didn't realise you were around :)
Or they are fragile...
Nooooo... sorry Christine... I am sure Franck is a toughy...
I hve just got back in from a friends, I thought I said hello but it appears I forgot to press 'post comment'
I wondered why the doohickey wasnt showing comments until I pressed the pending button
what no coding?
i told you tab then enter ;) much easier than actually clicking ;)
My life is empty
(ignores other assignment he had to do for next week)

Just got my iPad going and checking commenting :)
hehehehe :D - http://www.flickr.com/photos/5livef1/4617975339/in/set-72157623961817697/
w00t!
i thought you hated apple?
Yes me...
There is a rally in Portugal which will be an excellent event...
Funnily I find the rallies more compelling than F1 this year... I am trying to work out why that might be...
am going to have to throw that one open to the floor...
any takers?
you gotta love justin wilson
:)
I'm hoping I can watch pole and bump days, not sure I can yet.
I don't hate them, they annoy me a litle, but so far so good. Can't seem to get the ap store to work though?s do I have to wait for the uk release?
Heinz-Harald is 43 today...
Is it for him?...
ahh, probably. bassano knows more than me.
:D
If it is, he's really let himself go...
Does anyone know if Joe is doing a pre-British GP Audience with..?
I guess it makes sense.
It's very nice though, much nicer than browsing on the phone!
he said he would be, yup/
seems oddly small using that now.

Madness.
:D
he'd get a good view?
What's that coming over the hill, is it a teletubby? is it a teletubby?
:D :D Ant is officially my favourite non f1 driver in the paddock :)
If Ant, Producer Jas and Crofty made a TV show about a road trip, I would watch it.
let's pre-empt the fia and get him a seat with the new team - whoever it may be
The Five Live Drive?
Oooh!
To music.
Five Live Jive Drive
hehehe totally! and of course they'd need someone to film/take pics.. am sure i could help them with that :P
oooh! tweet them! :)
IRL:
Meanwhile, Dixon's on top with 226.5 mph - I heard Castroneves managed a lap of 227.5 yesterday. Still a million miles away from Gil de Ferran's four-lap average at Fontana in 2000...
and christine thinks i have issues...
I often trawl around E-Bay to find bits of F1 cars for my collection.
http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/bar-experimental-carbon-fibre-reinforced-upright/
now i come to think of it...
All under the draft though.
Thankfully not near the Fontana mark, assuming you mean his 240mph CART lap.. I miss those cars but it was getting silly
241.2 mph over four laps - completely crazy, especially when you consider what happened at texas in 2001
There is also a live webcam in Gasoline Alley
http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/indy500/multimedia/37327-Gasoline-Alley-Cam/
Am I right in thinking that the 5Live crew chose to drive there and back to Monaco because of the ash?....
This time it wasn't forced on them?....
didn't know about that one
Mr C... Darren replied
'@f1_lou Yes they do but a lack of respect for one's fellow professionals means we're all finished.'
interesting. i don't see why he couldn't jut jump in?
Looks like you are not the only person to get a reply

Maybe they were not allowed in
christine has a brand new fancy phone. i heart new stuff paid for buy other people :)
now LET ME PLAY!
we need a blog post on the subject!
How are you going to get Darren to write one though? Sounds like a project for Lou.;)
*humph* everyone has an htc but me :( i have to wait till july till i can get a new handset.. not sure my old one will last till then.. Good thing is, when i finally get an htc there will be plenty of people around me to help me if i can't figure it out :)
What is it?
I just saw the tweet, never mind :)
Still there's an ideal Airplane setup line
htc desire.
desirable.
damnit, i missed that one.
Saw this earlier on today - quite possibly one of the most ridiculous stunts by anyone in any profession I have ever seen in anything ever
he doesn't seem that interested in talking about it...
'@f1_lou I'm sure they were tempted. Glad you like the pics and blog. Thanks.'
http://twitter.com/F1Photographer/status/14245000706
It was between the desire and an iphone when I got my new phone the other week...
I went iphone....
ahh well, thanks for trying.

Ruh-ruh
I turned away for a second and Mario Moraes had a boo-boo with the barriers exiting the pitlane. Now really Mario, you ought to know how to do it by now...
Mr C, you will be glad to know doohickey works on here. All I have to do now is learn how to type on it.
touchscreen rules.

Errrr....
Most goats do... don't they?....

Well I don't think many goats eat pasta ;)
I think my balcony is a safe place ;)
Unless you are at an event....

That will depend on the sauce...
Goats cheese anyone?....

Not from Alison
I love stumbling across stuff you didn't even realise existed. Just found a load of goodwood photos I totally forgot about and havent seen since last year, including a photo of nearly all of team jenson that completely passed me by...
yay! i can't wait for it.. it's like a mini goodwood... kinda..
You can't get me from here, dear Ali!
did you say you were going on the monday lou?
!!!!!! show me! i'm not sure i have a good pic of them all..
yep. Lukeh and I will be there on the monday. Wouldn't miss the GP..
http://twitpic.com/1oy2i9
Dunno how I missed that
hehehe i have a shot like that.. i think. :D good times :)
Hmmm...
Team 3G have officially pulled out of this year's 500 due to financial problems. They were a backmarkers team, but it's always sad to lose an entry so close to qualifying
I thought they'd at least make a run at it
LOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you studying or can I tell you Heston is just about to start?
*urgh*... can't watch.. will have to catch up on thursday..
apparently not now, but then again everything i've heard/read about the squad points to a team (owner) barely able to organise himself
the team essentially had no sponsors at all last year...
Daily has been 'scheduled' - managed to post a bit of F1 news this time ;)
:)
cheers sir
Det var så let ;)
It's 30 years since Mt. St. Helens? http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/05/mount_st_helens_30_years_ago.html
Woah...
Ah thats reminded me I have to do it tommorow. *puts on the ever growing to-do list*
game thing http://toomuchracing.com/2010/05/18/tmr-game-week-17/
You (and all volunteers) are allowed to shout I CAN'T DO IT THIS WEEK. I think I can stretch to an extra daily. :)
I still want to do it! I just have to remind myself or I will just forget about it! :D
I know that problem too :)
Is it too early/late for Amy to be here?
i think its fair to say its never too early/late for Amy to be here
:)
she had about 2 hours sleep sunday, i should imagine she's probably trying to catch up
she wanted to know what catherine's dress looked like.. well.. i found it.
http://tinyurl.com/3a7wmjb
i've seen that dress before. which either means amy commented that already... or i need to hang out with more blokes.
?!?
Hi?
i think i've seen her in that dress before. have tweeted her a few more pics too.
Woah did Nick already get his ipad? Boy never tells me anything.....
someone commented that glock's wife liked it, and then someone else said it was a nice dress but didn't suit her.
i can't possibly making this up... i hope.
apparently, but then he went away, so i assume he broke it already :)
You scare me.
Get this man a beer, stat
Amy said Isabel liked it yeah.. i didn't realise someone said it was a nice dress... Amy sent me off looking for pics of it..
:D Maybe he knew I was coming home. He seems to have gone to great lengths to hide it from me....
h.e.l.p.m.e.
is that why you want to go out there next week? ;)
:)
To steal valuable electronic equipment. Hell yeah.
awww... you know what you need?... a trip to a popular pub...
https://twitter.com/bassanoclapper/status/14247777169
hehe
For a man who lives in Barcelona, I've never seen someone so excited by Milton Keynes
http://twitter.com/JAIMEALGUERSUAR/statuses/14249919940
Oh dear. Emirates FAIL. Wednesday can't be both the 18th and the 19th of May I'm afraid you idiots....
hahahah. love him
it's clearly the place to be, Andy lives there,
i'm not saying it will happen, i'm just saying the teams want it. what else can you pair up with Canada? {Comment #359}
Mexico. Yes, it's less attractive than the USA, but it wasn't a million miles off joining the calender in 2006...
You'd think getting the date right is pretty much crucial for an airline....
Never mind, #ashcloud has officially ruined my life. Too expensive :( Work it is
true. but i still think the reason bernie's more inclined to give it to them is TV ratings - more people can watch a Bahrain season-opener than an Australian season-opener. {Comment #366}
How's this for an answer? Make the Aragon circuit the season-opener in the first week of March (it can replace Valencia as the European Grand Prix and it certainly looks more exciting), then move to Bahrain and Australia at their current dates.
but then how many casual fans would get up at 6 AM to watch F1? {Comment #374}
They wait until 2pm and watch the replay (assuming the TV station does a replay), get hooked and start looking for it in the TV listings even if subsequent timings prove obscure...
how does that help?
I started writing a blog entry about the whole Schumacher-safety car thing yesterday but decided not to bother with it. Mrs C and I are off to stay with her sister in France for a few days, and since I'll be sans laptop I wouldn't be in a position to deal with the flood of comments that would no doubt ensue! {Comment #436}
That's probably a good move. My entry on the subject may have attracted precisely no comments*, but I suspect someone with as experienced and reasoned a viewpoint as you might get quite a lot of interest, and not everyone thinks straight when they type...
* - Having just had to clear 55 spam comments from another entry, not needing to remove any abusive ones was welcome. Sometimes people come up with interesting additions or oppositions though, just not on this occasion.
how does that help?
More interesting opener at a good timeslot, no inconvenience to people who have already booked travel arrangements or municipal planning authorities, Aragon and Bahrain can go back-to-back, a good excuse to get rid of Valencia and also the opener is really easy to reach from testing because it's in the same country!
that much i agree with.
can't argue with that.
you haven't however solved the problem that is - it takes longer to get "stuff" to melbourne than it does people. hence people going to bahrain, then coming home while the "stuff" gets to australia.
I know – two sentences. {Comment #439}
But two main points. The first one I completely agree with and the seconds puts an interesting light on the situation (I thought Ross had simply been misled by a badly-signposted article, but if he was testing for holes in the rulebook it would be typically canny of him ;) )
I can't believe this - one of my blog entries has ended up with 660 spam comments since I last checked. How did that happen?!?

That problem will exist no matter what is done because it takes about a month to get the sea stuff over to Australia. Particularly, any calender which pairs Melbourne with any other race back-to-back will require cargo to be split in two.
but it won't... if you start the season in melbourne.
send the freight, while people wait at home.
are you not using anti spam software?
conversely. end the season in brazil. people come home and the freight follows as and when.
ecclestone is clearly a mentalist with the current calendar. it completely ludicrous no matter how you slice it. the only thing that makes sense is bahrain and abu dhabi line his pockets significantly more than others.
Please can I magically make it this time tomorrow already?? :D
Mmmmm oil money...
four broken ribs, in three weeks"
the man is a walking calamity {Comment #495}
That sounds very painful for Franck :(
i think next year, bernie should only be allowed to set the calendar, if he agrees to driver one of the team trucks.
are you not using anti spam software? {Comment #676}
My blog platform doesn't appear to support any! Until recently, positioning a "spam bin" in the right place did the trick, but seemingly not any more.
ahh boo :(
you're going to spend most of your life emptying the spam bin at this rate.
but it won't... if you start the season in melbourne.
send the freight, while people wait at home. {Comment #675}
Still doesn't help unless you plan to wait 3 weeks for the race after Australia, which tends to lead to disjointed calenders. What goes out must come back.
of course it must. via malaysia > china > japan > india > bahrain. as i suggested earlier.
it doesn't have to come directly back to the uk?
ahh boo :(
you're going to spend most of your life emptying the spam bin at this rate. {Comment #683}
Luckily once I figured out there were no links into the page other than the ones I'd generated myself, there proved to be a straightforward solution - I swapped out the pages. The inbound links don't work for it but it meant 660 spam messages went in 30 seconds flat and the entry content itself is still on the site in the correct point of the calender. As manual clearance techniques go, that's not bad.
of course it must. via malaysia > china > japan > india > bahrain. as i suggested earlier.

Bahrain to Malaysia is 3 weeks. Australia to Malaysia is at least 2 weeks and may well be 3. Any less and they wouldn't need two boats for all combinations of Bahrain/Malaysia/Australia and from what I've understood of the logistics articles in F1 Racing and the like.
If we had to wait for it to come back to the UK, the gap between races would have to be 4 weeks even if the starting point was Bahrain, so your question is good. Unfortunately leaving the boat out in the Indian Ocean still leaves long gaps between races; if you're trying to synchronise goods and people, that's not good.
i know this. that isn't under debate is it? the argument is the current calendar is very inefficient. and that starting in bahrain is a silly idea.

Due to the boat issue, I don't see how your proposed calender improves efficiency at all. Hence my emphasis on it.
There is a spider above my bed... Eekkk
hmmm. i throw in the towel on this one. i don't care that much.
madness!
Gulp. Just handed over £5.5k to an airline for upcoming flights. Iclandic volcano I put 2 fingers up at you.

I completely agree with you there. That's a lot of money...
Woah.... And I thought my flights were expensive!!
oh my!!!
