It is Thursday again! Where does the week go? Time is marching on and whilst we have a breather from F1 this weekend, the F1 World has certainly not gone quiet.
- Fernando Alonso believes he could have been challenging for the victory in Monaco had he not crashed in final practice and missed the qualifying session. I still believe I have jinxed him by saying I'd leave a voice mail the next time he won, since then he's just had problems.
- Four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost will be taking part in the Race of Champions for the first time this year. The event will be taking place at the Dusseldorf's ESPRIT Arena in November.
- Joe has some thoughts looking back at the controversy surrounding Schumacher's overtake on Alonso. Hopefully a line has been drawn, now that Mercedes are not appealing, and we can all move on and forget about it.
- Renault are apparently ready to expand the number of teams that they supply engines to in 2011. With Red Bull winning races and the Renault works team battling for the podium it certainly isn't a bad engine to have. It is also very fuel efficient!
- Adam Cooper has a couple of blog posts looking at the incidents from the Monaco Grand prix, the 'devastating' mistake made by McLaren although it was not all bad news as the engine was near its end anyway and Karun Chandhok is refusing to dwell on his retirement in Monaco after Trulli's Lotus went flying over his head.
- Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo tried out Ferrari's Formula 1 simulator. He may need the practice considering he once managed to beach a Ferrari California in a gravel trap in front of thousands of fans.
That is all I have for you, I hope you enjoy all the links and have a great day whatever you are doing, and I shall see you in the comments!
Mr C, you maybe pleased to know I've given up using Firefox and am embracing Chrome. ;)
hehe. why the change?
no doctor who in the daily?
I thought about it, but there wasn't anything I could really mention :(
awwwww :)
ahh, i'd forgotten luca's poor driving.
Just spotted this on the gossip column on the bbc site:
http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/todays-paper/Water+worry+absence+good+business+practices/3044703/story.html
oh crickey :(
I'm not sure if they are referring to this year, but it could add water hazards to the track ;)
might explain why the track keeps breaking up though?
Turn off the water to stop erosion, the real problem, fix in 5 weeks.
The only current inhabitants on the island are the Casino and 3 or 4 municipal buildings.
expensive though?
Everyone has said "there should be random water sprays on the track" to spice up the show!
I'm not sure they were thinking sewage....
I was watching the 2006 review the other day, and the track was breaking up, they must be some really old pipes ;)
I hope they've done something about the track breaking up, that seems to be the one downside to the track.
:)
true. it's been happening for too many years now.
Gotta do it... Gotta do it. Montreal's infrastructure has not been refreshed since the original build. So many main water pipes are 80-100 years old and are past due.
50 years for the island is not long, but remember that the island was built for the World Expo in 1967, out of spoils from the building of the Métro, and no one planned for the island to be used this long.
However, that said, to say that the track is a public road is a bit of a stretch. The road is effectively a round-about at the end of a cul-de-sac. It is not a regularly traveled road, the most frequent users are cyclists and roller-bladers.
good lord! this must've come up when the plan to bring back the gp came into action?
Water mains are not seen as a "maintenance" item but rather a wear-and-tear piece. You only change it when it is broken.
aahh. understood.
for those not around, felipe baby / rob smedley got a shout out on 6music yesterday morning. here's the replay if you missed it:
http://drop.io/laurenlaverne/asset/lisa-on-6-music
and now, i really must sleep.
Night
There may be another factor leading to the relatively short life span of the 'water main... Remember that the 2 islands are artificial. the currents around the islands are quite strong, due to the effective reduced width of the river. The pictures in the pitpass article (GP update?) show the Senna Ss, which are at the "head" of the island, no more than 2-300M from the rivier shore, which bears the full-brunt of the river.
But this begs the question, what is a water pipe doing there? there is NOTHING of import around.... Google maps to follow.
Here is a Google map of the islands... The two islands you see there are esentially man-made. The middle one doubled in size and the one on the right (the race track) was 10% of it's current size.
Such the changes were, there is now decent surfing between the islands!

Google trends info for grandprix.com looks interesting,
I wonder what could possibly have happened in January? :P
http://trends.google.com/websites?q=grandprix.com
Good morning. I'm hoping for a quiet work day today as there don't seem to be many people around, unlike yesterday when I was hopping all over the place it seemed.. Just some nice straightforward tasks will be lovely. :)
A quick Joe S blog check with my morning tea, saw this comment from him:
I am no longer working with grandprix.com. I still own a share in the business but I have nothing to do it with it now and I am rather sad that my name is still associated with it as I do not think the quality is up to much.
Morning guys
Hi
Sorry if I was annoying yesterday, sometimes I don't come across the way I think I do...
UML diagrams should be so easy but they're so frustrating :( trust my final assignment to be just mind numbing
Morning everybody! :D
I just bought a new phone: Motorola Droid (Milestone) any advice?
Hi marilene
Not a phone expert but as long as it phones and messages, then all is good :P
Hi :)
Don't know anything I'm afraid..
evening all. I had quite the doohickey withdrawals today!
Hullo amy
yo. How is the land of the Welsh today?
Frustrating :( work seems insistent on constantly phoning me and it's driving me a little mental if I'm honest. Surely they cant be allowed to phone you more than 1 times in a day? (4 times yesterday all asking me to work/questioning me about uni...)
apart from that all is well. How be the land of down under?
well is good! Down Under is coooooooold.
Thats silly australia is never cold. you're silly.
:P
it was 6 degrees when I was going to work yesterday. six! thats only one figure!
ppfffttt, welsh heatwave that is :D
note to self: don't go to wales :D
Nahh it ain't so bad in the summer. The winter is usually just as cool as that though with added rain just to make sure.
Thanks to usually working in a -20 room I don't really notice it...
Hello. Busy work day?
does that apply also to the New South version of Wales ? :-)
Hooray for being in Europe in summer! 94 days and 3 hours until my flight :D
left my phone at home :(
yeah, been there once, once was enough :D
ooh :(
Hello all.
Lukeh, I suggest the next time work call you, say you will definitely go in but only if they pay you 5 x going rate and you need it in writing before you leave the house. ;)
Excellent idea!
Hello Janna.
I think it does that. *checks* It does. ;)
Lotus have begun working on making Heikki 2011 world Champion*
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83739
*may be an overstatement
That makes me look forward to 2011 F1 season already! :D
go Lotus! I shall buy more Air Asia flights if they need funding :D
it'll happen, just wait :D
I demand for Red Bull to take this back. Have they forgotten that just the week before, a certain Brit was leading the driver's standings? :(
Oooh, the arrogance
I may or may not have laughed when I saw that. #sorrylou

Interesting thought from F1Fanatic:
Rule 152 of the ISC:
As well as this and independently of the prescriptions of the
following Articles, the FIA may, upon the proposal and report of
the FIA observer or the joint report of the two international
stewards of the meeting designated by the FIA, directly inflict a
penalty which will take the place of any penalty which the
stewards of the meeting may have pronounced on any one of the
above-mentioned parties. In this case, the ASN concerned cannot
refuse to appeal to the International Court of Appeal on behalf of
the party concerned.
And 153:
Penalties may be inflicted as follows in order of increasing
severity :
− reprimand (blame);
− fines;
− time penalty;
− exclusion;
− suspension;
− disqualification.
Time penalty means a penalty expressed in minutes and/or
seconds.
Any one of the above penalties can only be inflicted after an
enquiry has been held and, in case of one of the last three, the
concerned party must be summoned to give them the opportunity
of presenting their defence.
Article 18.1
“The stewards may inflict the penalties specifically set out in these Sporting Regulations in addition to or instead of any other penalties available to them under the Code.
Can the three items above still be used to reverse (or at least lessen) Schumi's penalty? Is that why Mercedes dropped its appeal?
Mission Control...
totally. i've changed my mind. i don't want it, i NEED it.
sure. as long as Christine doesn't mind... ;)
I bet at least one of those screens has doohickey on it.
I'm sure Lukeh can check for us... ;) :D
:)
:D
Claire has a new account
http://twitter.com/WilliamsF1Team
ooh, ta
she deleted her old account? doh!
she id a bit silly, couldve just changed the name!
I'm sure she changed her name from something else originally
Good afternoon. I am nearly finished with this silly university. Hoorah. How are we all lovely people?
her old twitpics are still there: http://twitpic.com/photos/clairevwilliams
have added claire here: http://sidepodcast.com/twitter/
am wondering what other f1 lists i could create?
F1 employees? there are more and more engineers and mechanics and things springing up about the place
ooh, plan. some are in the teams list but that doesn't make a lot of sense.
the ones I am following that aren't on your list are this one this one and this one. I found a Williams mechanic the other day somewhere but now I can't remember his name and I can't find him again. He only had about 20 followers!
this one: http://twitter.com/stephenrbailey ?
have made a start: http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/f1-employees
will add to the page later. also realised i have a lot of suppliers that don't really fit anywhere, so created: http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/f1-suppliers
hearts lists.
ooh thats him!
would the kangaroo tv lady fit that list?
i think so, what's the address?
http://twitter.com/Marissali
oooh, i wondered why i was following her :)
for some reason i had listed under "media". lists might need more organisation!
maybe you should make an f1misc list?
currently i have "f1". which is basically everything ever. or do you mean everyone that doesn't find in another list?
I am browsing the PSN movie store. I want to buy one! Or rent one! Just because I can! I feel so law abiding.
f1 podcasts. i really have lost track. for this new list (yeah, it's an addiction), who am i missing?
http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/f1-podcasts
hooray, now to download a 3gb movie on a wonky wireless connection that barely works, yaaay!
:)
I could have got the SD version at half the size and for a dollar less, but I want my first MFC movie purchase to be HD and awesome.
#sameperson
hehe. do ya have a hd screen to watch it on?
I do indeed! 40" of HD Bravia! I think I might have to take the PS3 downstairs where the wireless is stronger and attach it to the tiny wee tv just so the download will work because it is never, ever going to work up here. Remind me to get around to setting up my own internet account because I'm sick of paying the neighbours to use a service that doesn't work more than 30% of the time :(
the latter
how have you survived this long without one?
that's like and alcoholic surviving alco-pops.
the internet is mostly OK on my laptop, it's just the PS3 that doesn't connect often and I don't use it much. For those times that the laptop is misbehaving I have my 3G dongle.
I tried once to get my internet set up myself but apparently I had my phone line with the wrong company but I couldn't switch companies without paying out my contract. My contract has ended so I am investigating switching phone companies now. Stupid monopoly.
ok, this is what i currently have: http://sidepodcast.com/twitter/
which is now pretty awesome. there aren't many people who don't fit in a category, other than random fans. i think.
do you need a list for that? ;)
hehe! there's a sidepodast commenters list at the bottom. so i guess it's:
"random people you tweet about f1, but won't leave us a comment!"
hooray I can switch my phone provider online! Nothing excites me more than not having to use the phone.
are you sure you're not christine?
last time I checked she had a way better accent.
i like this from rubens:
Claire from Williams has changed twitter. She is at @WilliamsF1Team...plenty of news and pictures
yes she has!
but she does get very tired from speaking with a british accent ;)
hehehe!
I could imagine! All that holding your throat funny!
Is Seb going to rename his car now? Lush Liz v2.0?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83744
faulty chassis is the new excuse for being beaten by your team mate isn't it?
first schumi, now vettel. it's like the f1 placebo.
For Schumi, it is not a faulty chassis, just unsuited to him (shorter wheelbase). Seb's one seems like it really has a fault though.
"The one he had got damaged during the first few races and we repaired it as best we could at the races," Brawn told the Guardian. "But now we are back at base we are going to reintroduce the test chassis and he will be using that in Barcelona."
Rubens acknowledges greatness :)
Me too. I'm going to tweet BT later.
why can no-one pick up the phone anymore?
Have you tried dealing with a telecoms call-centre? That's an oxymoron if ever there was one.
I still think it is the length of the wheelbase that affected him. :P
As for Seb, it might be the mirrors.
phones are scary. My friends were shocked when I got a job that involves using them because I never ever use them in the "real" world.
Wish someone would tell that to work
Although kudos to Elephant who dealt with me pretty quickly the other day when I was doing my car insurance. Didn't have to go from department to department.
sounds to me he just needs more confidence like schumi.
new chassis = more confidence, "see, it wasn't your fault really"
how scary can it be? it's not even video conferencing, you don't even need to get dressed to do it?
Like how Kate's Dirty Sister >>>> Kate?
I keep having to close doohickey 'cos the boss is around. can't he stay 40 miles away? :)
Maybe Mr C can design a change the heading thing that most games have nowadays so you can just switch tabs?
pretty much. it's a great line for the media, to excuse poor performance, and who can say their wrong. in about 4 hours, i'm betting steven going to tell me driver's have been doing it since the 60's :)
i really don't think there's anything wrong with anyone's chassis. sometimes people need a helping hand.
In real life you can get away with just 'hanging out' with people.. on the phone you're expected to think of stuff to say so I spend most of my time doing that and not listening to the other person..
I'm not really sure I should have the browser open at all.
I always feel like I am inconveniencing someone and I'm bothering them by calling. Even if I'm calling a call centre where they're all just sitting there, waiting for me to call :D
Frankly, I don't really care for whether his chassis has a problem. I don't like Luscious Liz as much as Kate's Dirty Sister, so I am hoping for a better name this time. :D
Aww... Can't be helped then.
for those missing james allen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58Zkbbfygjw
he should call it amazing awesome amy.
really doesn't make sense to me. can i say you're all weirdos and be done with it?
i think its a bit of both, drivers really can tell the difference between chassis's that are meant to be exactly the same. it dosent have to be big things but confidence is definitely part of it
:D
He should have a 'naming my car' competition.
I'll take that. :)
as long as you agree to phone for all pizzas and taxis I may require when I am in your presence, yes.
scary
Ah just like my friend Kris.
aww yay. I didn't know James Allen was powered by LG. that explains alot
I like that its more common than I thought.
:D
do you not just say "ring them yourself"?
I don't wish to tempt fate but..
http://www.motorsportcircuitguide.com/circuit-news1.php?id=1583&return=circuit-directory.php?id=11
yayy (potentially)
my flatmate did that to me once. It was terrifying.
#wishfulthinking
is there a name for this or something, has anyone ever looked into why? how can people around the world be sitting there scared to talk on a telephone?
I successfully made the call and ordered two pizzas and a lemonade and the world didn't explode! I think I may be getting better in my old age :D
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_fear_of_the_telephone_common_and_is_it_possible_to_overcome_it
was hoping it would have a fancy medical name :(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_phobia
'Phonophobia- Fear of noises or voices or one's own voice; of telephones.' from http://phobialist.com/
2.5 MILLION??
:D
i think alex suffers from this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomophobia
I can't be properly phobic of the phone, the thing I was trying to change online was my phone provider :D
Anatidaephobia – fear of being watched by a duck. :D
that's nick
Heh... I'm not that bad I do turn off my phone from time to time... In fact I did while in the theatre the other night.
He just doesn't let himself get into that situation.
:)
hi everyone,
hey
how?? sounds you need him on go for odd.
Hello, Leigh.
doffs crash hat
afternoon mr alex and ms marilene
Oh I am trying to get him on for sure
Mr C sir
he would be an excellent guest. Him and my brother are on the list
i like you have a list :)
It's an odd list ;)
Odd as in 'odd people list' or odd as in 'strange list'?
Both probably :)
Have been playing a new karting game where you can make your own tracks, cars,. characters, etc. I made a Mini Rubens!!
http://twitpic.com/1peev3
heheheh
I can;t find an option to make him look old
#sorryrubens
:D
Afternoon all :)
I think you may what I've done for one of my uni modules, I've managed to get the BrawnGP car on my site ;)
#awesome
We were allowed to pick who the site was for, so I've picked F1 :D
Really really really good blog here..
http://ruthsracyadventures.wordpress.com/
It's about a woman who is a journalist who decides to start marshalling and blogs about it, its really interesting.
Interesting...
and it's not all fairy fairy too, shes really honest about whats it like being a female marshal and how cleaquey it is some times
v.interesting:
...seeing the rescue unit producing a cover made me think of the worst in terms of the drivers health, but it was simply to stop the driver being distracted by something in the corner of his eye and turning his head
part of my course this year has been about marshalling and its run by a clerk of the course, and its the little insights like that which make you really think about how amazing British marshalls really are.
I just spent 10mins getting out my SIM card from my old phone.
How can anything so small be so difficult?
How fun! I want her job. :D
Hiiiii
Only 2 days left at work ever. Happy times.
Hello Alison
Have you quit your new job too? :P
Alas no.
allen sounds as cynical as me:
Vettel will get a new chassis for Turkey after a 'defect' was found on Monaco car. Should boost his confidence
Can the three items above still be used to reverse (or at least lessen) Schumi's penalty? Is that why Mercedes dropped its appeal? {Comment #66}
If the FIA could get the stewards together again, they could voluntarily rescind the penalty after consulting the evidence provided they came to a consensus. However I don't see how they can do that and still be consistent with the regulations under which they make judgements. They don't have the option to drop the penalty just because the signposting in the rulebook wasn't spotted.
Hey! Just in time for Alia's comment.
My point is, it seems that my earlier points indicated that there were (and I think still are) other options available to the stewards to penalize Michael as they saw fit. They're not necessarily limited to the drive-throughs and stop-gos. So in theory, the punishment could still be changed.
Maybe because he IS as cynical as you. ;)
My poor Sebastian...
On that new karting game I mentioned earlier, I may have made this over the last hour or so
http://twitpic.com/1pfaei
harsh but fair :)
price of success ;)
HOW?!
over the last hour.
you MUST be joking. :O
anyone else thinking what i'm thinking?
The basics are super quick to get done, like the track, it's just fine tuning from there on really!
what's that?
with all those twists and turns??
It is ridiculously easy to make a track.
But it does look like I need that game now.
guest.post.
how can people around the world be sitting there scared to talk on a telephone? {Comment #151}
Very easily. Until I started using one on an everyday basis in my last placement, I found phones a nightmare to use. Feedback and noise on the typical line means I lose all non-lingual clues to what someone means, up to and including the ones that identify who the caller is in the first place. There's no second chance with phones either - people tend to get annoyed if you ask them to repeat themselves and unlike online, I can't just re-read their last point or spend 5 minutes thinking around the statement to ensure I've understood it.
For some reason, callers seem to be lazier on the phone than in real life - they tend to give fewer indications of what they want and seem to expect the receiver to fill in all the gaps in a way they wouldn't demand if in person. This applies in both directions though - the number of times I've encountered companies which think sticking 500 people in a big building is all they need to do to provide an effective customer service, with apparently no regard to people skills, product/service knowledge or even diction. Also, don't get me started on switchboards or telephone tag...
It means that despite me having got a lot better at using phones in the last 9 months or so, using one is still a frustrating experience.
And hey everyone :)
i need a tutorial!
Seconded. How can anyone not want a game where you can build a monaco track like Lukeh's?
Imagine what SPA could be like now... ;)
YES! And an open invitation for a SidepodMonacoGP. :D
(A shame I don't have a PS3...)
My point is, it seems that my earlier points indicated that there were (and I think still are) other options available to the stewards to penalize Michael as they saw fit. They're not necessarily limited to the drive-throughs and stop-gos. So in theory, the punishment could still be changed. {}
The act was committed and the standard penalty for it is a drive-through or substitution. If they listen to Ross they can't issue a reprimand because that would imply the blame was his instead of the FIA's (if they don't listen to him the penalty obviously remains as is). A fine would make no sense at all given the type of offence. So all they can really do is drop the penalty or keep it (because raising it makes no sense either).
The penalty options are there but the mechanisms for changing them are very limited now Mercedes have dropped the appeal. Especially since the FIA may have trouble persuading Damon Hill to risk more hate mail by getting involved again. The FIA would need to persuade him and the other three stewards to meet up to discuss the penalty. It's happened before (in China 2007, the stewards who presided over the previous race in Japan got the penalty against Sebastian Vettel dropped through that route), but I wouldn't get too excited about it happening again.
:)
Anatidaephobia – fear of being watched by a duck. :D {Comment #161}
I like the name of that one.
Here's a phobia I've never seen before:
Phonemophobia The fear of thinking
That doesn't sound good...
back folks - how is everyone?
:)
I don't like it... I wonder what it means! ;)
Aaah
It's like Doctor Who all over again
Helloo :)
Dr Who?
Oh dear.........
Hello Scott
I believe I've mentioned this before, but it's opening this month and I think that this would be an ideal place for a future Sidepodmeetup :)
http://www.puretechracing.com/
I have a horrible feeling I'm missing out on a very obvious reference :(
The Water of Mars no?
Ahh yes.
*will wake up soon*
Hey Scott
oooh..
It was also the way the character was listed in the credits for the first two Doctors
did google misplace their spellchecker?
I'm getting red underlining in Chrome if I spell things incorrectly when commenting. Does that count?
hehe! how did they lose the dictionary? bing doesn't have one either :(
have updated the commenting policy this evening: http://sidepodcast.com/about/comment-policy/
not a page that's ever seen a lot of attention (and somehow i've lost the bullet points too), but if anyone has 5 mins to cast their eye over it and yell if any needs adding/removing that would be appreciated (using you minds eye to visualise the bullet points).
also, i've stolen the last paragraph from alex, or maybe kat, one or both of them anyhow.
Mmmm cake.
hehe. did we ever comment about kat's cake the other week? i was drunk and forgot, and now i can't remember what the heck it was.
i know it was green and nice.
Comments may one day come back to haunt you.
true story
"Comments may one day come back to haunt you"
Never a truer phrase.
hehe :)
doofus williams!
Just had a message from my good friend Claire Williams. She's been a doofus & deleted her Williams Twitter account. So if you want to follow
http://twitter.com/CroftyF1/status/14374191587
What an awesome word :D
i made a cake once. it was chocolate and it was marvellous
:)
urrrrggggh i.hate.shopping! it always ends in an argument!
Hey all
heya. What happened?
hi lou
did you get anything nice in the shops? biscuits perhaps??
and she thought her nickname was bobble!
Hey lou, was this dress shopping?
i know that feeling...
"you're not allowed out of the store until you've PAID!"
There's nothing on there highlighting taboo subjects like politics. Perhaps if such things were explicit it would help.
:D
brilliant, shall do.
balls are stupid. i got a dress over the weekend.. but now i need shoes.. and shoe shopping with my mother is awful cause we have a totally different style. Plus all the shoes i liked had a heel that was waaaaay too tall.
large heels = freakishly tall lou + no dancing + very painful feet.
is there anything taboo aside from politics? you'd think i'd know...
Indycar:
Props to Bryan Herta who has let Bruno Junqueira run in Saavedra's spare car, because his FAZZT machine is temporarily tied up in sponsorship issues
:D
hehe i have my dress :D hehe it's lovely (i actually kinda enjoyed finding it..... but don't tell anyone..)
I very much doubt we can discuss religion either, although I don't think it has come up. Perhaps checking with Christine would be an idea ;)
:D hehe
I went shopping with Em today after school.. she saw a pair of shoes, they fitted, she bought them and all is well. Why is it never that simple for me!
#lookingatyourjackie
hehee
Why not large heels to arrive & for photos then ballet shoes for dancing? If the ball somewhere you have access to beforehand (like school hall).
*you
oops
ahh that would be a super idea, however our ball is at a kinda castle place... we have a champagne reception in the gardens, then the dinner and dancing is in the Marquee. not sure if i'd have space for some pumps in my bag.. hmmmm
oooo the 'continue reading' thing on posts is now a cute button :) aw
Just take off the shoes for dancing...
The floor will be so crowded no-one will notice....
ah yes. not sure if it's a bit big. but it's certainly more obvious. the twitter page is now full of the things.
http://sidepodcast.com/twitter/
You may when people stand on your foot....owww
hehe i like them, they look cute.
Evening. I escaped (and went to the shop).
That's excellent, nice find!
There speaks a guy who has never worn serious heels...
There speaks a guy who never warn any heels!
WOW
Have nearly made a Mini Brawn :D
that would be painful... especially stiletto heels... however painful heels are painful
You should aim to add it to your life's experiences some time...
lou will help you find a frock to match...
Indy:
Oh well, here comes the rain... and everyone runs back into the garages... darn clouds!!
:(
umm...thanks....
I have been stood on in heels that hurt.
Can you imagine ten of us at once.. apart from you, the spectators wouldn't know which gravel trap to look in first :)
ahahaha! no. i am not going dress shopping again in a hurry..
I'd imagine the first one...
Now lou... to leave a guy to go shopping on his own would be too cruel....
Alison likes dresses... i'm sure she'd help him :)
oi, i can pick dresses. I've never bought one for myself mind.
:)
Probably. Lots of fun though
OK... we look forward to reviewing your choice...
How about accessories?....
It's rather near me...I think I might go
In your frock?...
And heels?....
This is a strange conversation :D
a hat?
:)
hmmm
......
:D
Possibly.... or a fascinator...
:D
word of the day?
Is that something that is really really interesting, so much that it fascinates?
We've talked about this before. I'm sure we all decided on "fluke"
oi
I'm sorry but I refuse to believe anyone can buy dresses without trying them on first....
I rule, you must accept this
i can totally see Jon in one of these :D
http://tinyurl.com/39w6bcv
But it's obvious....
He tried it on...
£35 isn't too bad for qualifying and a race, with instruction, over two hours.
:D
Evening all
im 6'2, i bought a dress for my 5'1 girlfriend and you think i tried it on!?
hello!
Would do the practice one i think, only £15
hehehe i bet you secretly did :P
I reaaaaally didnt
If you were the same height, would it have been ok?
:)
well..no
good point
You probably went around on your knees....
And borrowed a bra and some sports socks to help the fit....
This is definitely a wierd conversation!
Is that weird or wired.... as in bra that you borrowed?....
Well at least we all know we'd spot you at any event....
Yaaaay a Mini Brawn racing on the Monaco track I made
http://twitpic.com/1pgbd0
Suck up!
Huh?
It's totally epic and i LOVE it
That really does look like a brilliant game :)
Nice
So cute
awwwww!!!!! yay for Brawn* at Monaco
*wrong driver :P
This is what I mean :P
oh.
Heh I'm just jealous.
ehehe!
Evening all
Hi Steven!
Hello :)
Just doing some quick comment trawling to see what I have missed today. I agree with Mr C. I need one of these
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/wp-content/uploads/Picture-150.png
No politics, religion etc
Hi Steeeeven :)
I thought you were ignoring me.
Me?
Well everyone really but since you're hear I thought I would pick on you
We need to bring back the Panel so we can get a live version of that
I wonder if it only exists in writing
updated.
have also revised the music page to give it more space, although i've clearly broken a stylesheet somewhere because on my machine the table has alternating stripes :(
http://sidepodcast.com/about/music/
I'm never going on a panel. You all bully me enough as it is. Steven's already admitted to picking on me!!!
you can host it then
You already volunteered for the all female panel so you can't get out of it now. Besides you love me
i said that too.. and i've done on it twice..
She doesn't mean it.
Hah. You wish.
I have the evidence
Boooooo
You should read the comments policy. http://sidepodcast.com/about/comment-policy/
hehehe
Scott mentioned that simulator place earlier - here's a video from WRC's Neil Cole. It looks very cool..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U3wKKc2eM0
:(
I'm sure you wouldn't spill pizza on my new sofa though....
Who did that or is that a stupid question? I almost mistyped that as stupid person which may also have been approriate
:D
Just checked the drinks poll Marilene started in her daily. I am very surprised how badly Red Bull is doing since it is the unofficial drink of SPC
http://www.luckypolls.com/index.php?act=07&id=18642
pah! what do people know?
...you included ;)
I am winning
#notcompetitive
grr
Tea's making a run on Diet Coke. :D
Excellent.
ok, when are we going?
As soon as humanly possible.
I [email protected]'s link and got a near-instant reply from someone called @racewraps who I presume works on it..
@MidwkMotorsport @toomuchracing ah no shame you didn't make it down!we will put on far more events don't worry :-)
there was supposed to be a space there
why didn't you go?
I had no idea it was on. Invite was for Dex.
ahh, you gotta blag an invite.
Done. Sort of.
video has sealed it for me :)
I'm in.
35 quid is a bargain. There is also this:
Please contact us to discuss your requirements as we can tailor an event specifically to your requirements (sample menus available on request). Additionally if you are not looking for exclusive centre hire we can provide you with options and prices for semi-exclusive group rates. http://www.puretechracing.com/booking/
Btw this is the one Scott, Chris and I tried at Autosport. Very hard. Very fun.
we're gonna need a wiki page.
RG!!!!!!!!!
oooo i come back and there is a possibility of a meetup?.. i should go away more often..
On it.
I was going to do the first half of the guest post but I haven't even got near starting yet :)
What's the countdown at now? Haven't had an update in ages
The other part that looks interesting is in the Corporate Customers info on the home page
Besides the racing experience PTR can offer presentations on team working in motorsport with a very experienced speaker who for many years worked for a leading F1 team and can give great insight into the role of team working and quality in meeting objectives.
I know it's for corporate team building days but I wonder who the speaker is ?
How's your driving?
days till i go on study leave (inc weekend) = 8
days till i finish alevels and head off to goodwood = 42
and... 99 days till spa...
How can it only be 42 days to Goodwood? The countdown started at 60
ahahahaha! can i take the pics?
sidepodteambuilding. building better a better community.
will it involve closing your eyes and falling backwards?
I think I'd get stuck in that car. It seems to make a big deal of upper body strength!?!
i know. scary stuff.. this time next week i would have had my last official lesson and be making sure i have everything for the ball the next day. seriously strange to think i'm finishing school..
Not with your ability to forget things
It can't take much strength because in stays flat the whole time. It doesn't pitch and roll like an F1 simulator.
heh, my group at work is going karting for a "team building" event. Most of them don't know I've started karting regularly.
It should be fun *evil grin*
It says you need to be able to lift your body weight to get in and out.....
They are doing team building and y
u are doing butt kicking
I'll probably be complaining about traffic a lot.
I'll be like a real live F1 driver!
There's a lot of force feedback on the wheel and the car does throw you around. I did two laps and felt it, but I'm a weakling.
:D :) ;)
You cycled half way round Europe how unfit can you be? Believe me it takes almost no effort to lift yourself in and out of a racing car. Besides these are big cockpits so they can accommodate a range of people so you get a bit of leverage and can get your legs under you
No HANS either.
I love the idea that you have buttons to move the pedals. They should do the same with the steering
It's not a fitness thing particularly. I just have wimpy upper body strength. I can't support my own weight on my arms. I once went to one of those outdoor pursuit places and had to get towed up the rope ladder thing because I couldn't manage....
Ha :)
Trust me. It doesn't take any strength to get in and out of a normal cockpit let alone a nice opent one where you can twit yourself up on your knees
It looks like those exercises where you hang off a bench and try and lift yourself up and down. I always got laughed it whenever I did circuits, I genuinely can't do it. I'm not a wimp but there's no amount of will power can make my arms do that.
are you watching a different video?
There are always things you can stick your foot against to push you out. I am sure you will cope
Off to bed, look forward to commenting with you all tomorrow.
I was reading their website:
All users must be capable of lifting themselves into and out of the simulators using their arms. You access the simulators by standing in the seat and then stretching your legs out in front and lowering yourself into the seat using your arms. To get out of the car you need sufficient upper body strength to lift yourself out of the seat until you can get you feet back to the seat and can stand up to exit the car.
She is talking about getting in and out. Getting in is really easy because gravity does all the work. If you leave the seat belt buckle sitting on the seat getting out is not an issue either because sitting on one of those really hurts
Night Janna
Night
bye j.
try watching the video. the cockpit looks massive. i could sleep in there.
Night Janna.
Yeah, I saw the video and thought that there was an awful lot of room to move your arms in there.
Wiki page http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/PureTech+Racing+simulator
They are probably capable of holding someone who weighs 18 stone. There are probably height and weight limits that will let you know how big the cockpits are
Oh I ought to link the video really :)
I think if I were stuck, you'd all laugh to much to help me out. It sounds like an evil plot.
awesome.
we'd press the ejector seat button.
I promise you that you won't get stuck. You will cope easily
Just press the button that brings the pedals back until they push you out of the cockpit
Bend your knees, push your back against the seat, push your feet, gently lift yourself up out the cockpit.
I tried to embed the video but it did something weird so I'll just link it
sounds like our wiki!
:)
Obviously if you want to come along just add your name.
Bit of a budgetary spanner in the works because I was deciding between Crystal Palace and Goodwood - would love to do both but can't afford, so thinking Goodwood is the favourite - and now this has come up, but I'm not missing it if we're going.
goodness me! it's stupidly difficult to arrange for a boarding student to come and stay!
itunes appear to have revamped the podcast pages. you can now listen to shows in your browser: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/sidepodcast-all-for-f1-f1/id211016343
(at least i think this is new?)
What's up?
both my mum and i have had to send emails, and ring the school boarding department to confirm everything. Although we both have spoken to the head of boarding face to face.. and have written a letter. It's sooo ridiculous... i know they have to have security measures and things but... she's only over from Germany for a few months and she was my German exchange partner so she's already stayed with us twice already. I wouldn't mind, but she is meant to be coming round this weekend.
She should just run away and stay with you. That would be a lot less bother.
For this guest post, what's the best thing to do with images?
hehehe that would be awesome. The school would kill me though.
I always just let Christine or Mr C find images but I suppose you could e-mail or link them.
good question.
i still haven't fixed the flickr thing, but it's on my list. do you have the option to upload via wordpress?
or that works too.
There are potentially 33 of them. Small ones. I'm not sure if I can make it work, I was going to play around on my blog to see if it would.
Files? Yeah.
We have the sidepodradio dropio
http://drop.io/sidepodradio
upload them that way and we can move them to the cdn later. the cdn is just a faster way of displaying images.
(a lot faster than mediatemple)
I need to find them first though
or that too. we have everything covered :)
Is it based in Canada? :)
do you have rights to them? i think we have indycar media access, what do you need?
Bureaucracy is a pain
:D
nothing to do with milk.
No but I was thinking of asking for access too. I'm doing this teams and drivers post and I thought it would be cool to have a small pic of the cars each team are running. Even if it meant patching a few together into one image per team.
it's worth applying. it only takes 24hrs. i think we had to apply for hildebrand pics when he did the young driver test.
would have been nice for them to be more organised rather than last minute though.
I'll do it now, cheers.
They might even have 'team' shots already.
So um... how? :)
hehe.
http://media.indycar.com/
big red button
Ah thanks. The link on the homepage is for an email address..
actually, it says it's instant now. better than last year.
Only if you're an accredited member of the media.
ahh ok.
if it takes anymore than a day, as it's for a guest post i can give you our login, but that would require finding it :)
Oh!
Thank you for registering for the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights Media Site, your account is now active. Please feel free to proceed into the Media Site through the main navigation at the top of the screen.
i can't type that quick!
Neither can I...
And to think the reason I'd put it off was because I thought I'd have to jump through hoops.
only if you want ferrari media or super aguri media access (long story) in our experience.
Oh the registration details? Thought you meant the quote.
FF remembed my details from other sites when I started typing :)
