Hello everyone.  I hope you are all over your motorsport-related hangovers? I was knackered today so I decided to go for a run in order to reset the body clock a bit.

In F1 news, Tony Fernandes has landed a couple of big sponsors today.  So now it’s time for his team to stop talking and start improving.  But maybe not tweeting, Tony…

What a weekend we had! Le Mans was epic, as always (check out the AUTOSPORT pics and this time lapse video), MotoGP was soggy but not so fun… and that Canadian Grand Prix!  That has to be one of the best races I have ever seen.  And what a finish!  So I thought I would link to some reactionary posts and opinions to it:

  • Firstly, the Rate the Race thread has some great banter.  Check it out!
  • Jalopnik has their famous Crayola post – great pic!
  • Martin Brundle has his thoughts
  • BadgerGP had a live event from London and here was their reaction to the end of the race – great videos!
  • Lukeh has his thoughts, which are well worth a read as always!
  • Joe has his thoughts and some amusing anecdotes between the F1 journos
  • Finally the Paddock Grapevine from AUTOSPORT is your best source for all the behind the scenes stuff.

Have you checked out Tweets of the Week and Christine’s Rankings yet?

Christine & Mr. C have released an e-book! And it’s well worth a read, it’s well written with some great facts and it’s a bargain too! I have downloaded the Kindle App and this is the first e-book I have bought, so what are you waiting for?

Some pictures from a Polish newspaper have surfaced of Robert Kubica.  While it’s shocking looking at his arm, he’s on his feet and he’s looking a lot better.  There’s talk that he might try and make a return in Brazil, too…

Here’s a great new post from Lukeh called F1 Babelfish – it’s a really funny look into what F1 people say and what they really mean :D

Some non-F1 stuff to wrap up now.  Did you know everything was a remix? I never realised it, and I’m never gonna look at things the same way again!

The Angry Birds developers are making some sort of game where you have to roll a fat panda around.  There goes my free time!

Amanda posted a link to Facebook called The Genesis of Doctor Who – a great collection showing how Doctor Who was created…

British Lady Racer Pippa Mann has secured funding for more races in Indycar.  Woohoo!

Here are a couple of funny cartoons for you – one about Zelda and one about safety cars in NASCAR, which I am sure you can all appreciate after the lot we had in Canada ;)

Finally, here’s an amazing pic for you – an aerial pic of Chicago with Lake Michigan frozen and some amazing shadows.  Wow!

Have a great day and if I’m not too busy I might see you in the comments!

I just bought that winter cider I was talking about the other day, I cannot promise I won't be drunk at dinner :D

Is that the stuff you said is sold at Ikea?

  • Amy15/06/2011 at 04:53

Is that the stuff you said is sold at Ikea?

nope, its at Dan Murphy's. I bought the wildberry one too since I've never tried it and if I drink both I'll be rather tipsy. Such a cheap drunk :D

impulsive is easy when you get to choose many dishes! I will have to fight the desire to get exactly what I got last time because it was all amazing.

I'll finally get my race post up tonight. The last few days have seen mr completely all over the place.

    :/

Aye - between flights, lingering illness and desperately trying to sort Spa out, I put the race on the backburner

    Morning all.

No rest for the wicked. Transcribing a Stirling Moss Q&A for a certain WEBSITE then tons of other stuff to do, including getting a plumber round to fix the runaway boiler (again!)

Ooooohh Sir Stirling. Sad to see him not racing anymore, but at least he's still doing appearances.

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 08:54

    He's certainly done his bit!

He still moves pretty fast. Took ages to track him down on Saturday morning. Even Lady Moss couldn't find him. She apologised profusely so I said, "Don't worry, in the past I've had to wait a lot longer to speak to people who weren't anywhere near as good as he is."

    I'd well believe that.

Heh, amusing that in the interim Journeyer should mention one such. I think in that particular case the wait was in the region of 8 hours.

And this was in the days when Barcelona tests were usually just two or three teams and hardly any press - and, more crucially, there was nowhere to score any food. Highly irksome.

    afternoon

Joe writes GE deal with Lotus is worth around 30 mil a year. Any idea how this compares with other major F1 team sponsorships these days ? Is it a lot, an average or just better than nothing ?

Isn't Pastor bringing something in that region to Williams a year?

I'd say it's decent, but not spectacular. Their expertise will come in handy for KERS, though.

It's not just a sponsorship deal, but rather a large engineering partnership

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 10:01

may be better question would be, when was the last time any team struck deal of this size (if we do not count deals that came with drivers attached)

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 10:20

just realized that Lotus already has deal with CNN (just see how much time in World Sport Fernandes got yesterday, 1/3 of the programme ?). now with GE that owns NBC (and probably other media too) ... this Tony guy can't spell but he knows how to make deals ...

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 10:23

As I noted yesterday, I think the bigger aspect of this is a potential Caterham / GE link up to start building hybrid cars.

  • Christine15/06/2011 at 10:24

You don't need to be able to spell to talk numbers :)

Yeah, i picked up on that yesterday, GE only own 49% of NBC Universal, but they own cnbc who sponsor Virgin

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 10:25

    For now.

as long as he gets the numbers right :-) but what an inspiration he is to all those kids with spelling issues in schools :-)

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 10:51

Basically Tony got them to invest so that his airline give GE preferential treatment. I would wonder how much of that 30 million will go to the team, personally...

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 10:56

    ferrari, yesterday, philip morris :)

well, that is not exactly new deal. yes, it had to be renewed, but both Ferrari and PM after all those years already have an idea how much the deal is worth to them.

so let me rephrase again :-) - when was the last time any team struck deal of this size with a sponsor new to F1 (if we do not count deals that came with drivers attached) ?

I think probably not since the bank money started to replace tobacco money ...

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 10:57

Basically Tony got them to invest so that his airline give GE preferential treatment. I would wonder how much of that 30 million will go to the team, personally...

well, first thing that Fernandes mentioned on CNN last night was development of KERS - so that is worth some $$$ and that 0.6s a lap may be worth millions ...

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 10:58

How much do Petronas bring to Merc?

Petronas is not exactly new sponsor in F1, they just deserted Sauber and went to Mercedes

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 11:00

well, first thing that Fernandes mentioned on CNN last night was development of KERS - so that is worth some $$$ and that 0.6s a lap may be worth millions ...

Using a brand new, untested system? It's going to break down lots. And he'll proclaim how well they are doing at the same time...

Funnily enough, Mastercard Lola comes to mind. :D But seriously, some good examples may involve Williams. RBS in 2005 and Compaq (later HP) in 2000.

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 11:03

Holy crap! Martin Brundle is going to drive the Pirelli F1 car! http://yfrog.com/h4u27rjj

My toy for today 90 laps in Pirelli's F1 test car run by Toyota MotorSport to 2011 weight+ downforce. I'm so mega happy! http://t.co/FSWGFfx

We're testing every tyre wet+ dry. 34 deg ambient 45+deg track. Good for testing. We will water part of track later. Some great action shots

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 11:04

I wouldn't underestimate GE just yet. Their financial muscle is easily the equal of most F1 teams.

I think he said it over the weekend - pretty certain he mentioned it in qualifying at some stage while talking about DLR's role for Pirelli

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 11:05

yes, but look at the dates, 2000 (tech bubble), 2005 (banks getting at their wasteful best) - all pre-2008 ...

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 11:06

Yeah, but they are years behind on development.

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 11:07

true, but hey, HRT were close to points this weekend, you don't need GE for that if mother nature, nature of people like Lewis collide and clear the way :-)

  • Journeyer15/06/2011 at 11:07

yes, but look at the dates, 2000 (tech bubble), 2005 (banks getting at their wasteful best) - all pre-2008 ...

So you're asking for 2008 and beyond... Hmmm.

Santander's the closest I can think of, but that's from 2007.

  • Journeyer15/06/2011 at 11:09

I wouldn't underestimate GE just yet. Their financial muscle is easily the equal of most F1 teams.

Yeah, but they are years behind on development.

Hmmm. I don't think they're all that far behind.

    http://www.ge.com/innovation/battery/index.html

Maybe a year or so behind, but if they're going to reapply the technology somewhere else, then they won't hesitate spending on it to catch up.

  • Journeyer15/06/2011 at 11:09

true, but hey, HRT were close to points this weekend, you don't need GE for that if mother nature, nature of people like Lewis collide and clear the way

not really just something a bit closer to present than first half of previous decade.

in any case, as we can't come up with any similar example in recent past this is quite a significant deal. perhaps not only for Lotus as others will realize that there is money to be had if the team can offer something in return

  • Nick15/06/2011 at 11:12

Santander's the closest I can think of, but that's from 2007.

Given the state of spains banking sector i wonder how long they will be there.

    Very good point.

I just don't see why everyone is still into Team Lotus so much.

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 11:13

So you're asking for 2008 and beyond... Hmmm.

not really sure i follow the question. what are you looking to prove wolf?

that in the past 2 years there haven't been any massive sponsorship deals? i guess you're right, but to me, philip morris is the bigger deal. ferrari were the only team smart enough to hang on to their cigarette sponsor when all the others bailed, wouldn't be surprised to see others coming back to be honest.

  • Journeyer15/06/2011 at 11:13

Santander's the closest I can think of, but that's from 2007.

Didn't that start collapsing at the end of '09? If anything, they've put more money in the sport now, not less.

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 11:14

in any case, as we can't come up with any similar example in recent past this is quite a significant deal.

Surely, Williams technical partnership deal with Porsche from last year?

  • Nick15/06/2011 at 11:14

I just don't see why everyone is still into Team Lotus so much.

    They are the new williams!

but that's only because philip morris is happy with their current state. they're not being promoted all that much, really. the way i see it, philip morris' role now is more of making money off selling their space than actually promoting their product.

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 11:15

    Sad but true.

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 11:16

not really sure i follow the question. what are you looking to prove wolf?

I am not trying to prove anything, just want to get some idea about this deal. obviously it is not easy these days to get any sponsors ...

yes, the Philip Morris deal is very likely worth more money, but to me if signifies more the arrogance of Ferrari than them being smart ...

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 11:17

But that's also a car manufacturer. Come to think of it, what have they worked on within F1?

The deal was also the same though - to design and build hybrid units for their cars

  • Journeyer15/06/2011 at 11:18

But that's also a car manufacturer. Come to think of it, what have they worked on within F1?

The deal was also the same though - to design and build hybrid units for their cars

But you don't see any Porsche logos on the Williams.

  • Nick15/06/2011 at 11:18

I wouldn't underestimate GE just yet. Their financial muscle is easily the equal of most F1 teams.

Yeah, but they are years behind on development.

GE do a lot of research and make money off the patents, i wouldnt be suprised if the other teams are already licencing some in there own KERS

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 11:19

I am not trying to prove anything, just want to get some idea about this deal. obviously it is not easy these days to get any sponsors ...

renault grabbing lotus was a pretty big deal i guess. better than snoras anyhow :)

yes, the Philip Morris deal is very likely worth more money, but to me if signifies more the arrogance of Ferrari than them being smart ...

six years after tobacco advertising was banned from the sport, ferrari sign up a tobacco sponsor for another four years. that isn't arrogant.

  • Nick15/06/2011 at 11:19

Didn't that start collapsing at the end of '09? If anything, they've put more money in the sport now, not less.

It has turned sour over the last 9 months, if greece defaults there are huge concerns over spains banks coming back as a domino

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 11:19

But you don't see any Porsche logos on the Williams.

I think you're missing the point. The technical partnership for Williams / Porsche and Lotus / GE is far, far bigger than any sponsorship deal, because the partnership deal may go some way to helping all companies grow.

Sponsorship is purely throwing something on a car for the sake of a few quid.

  • James15/06/2011 at 11:20

six years after tobacco advertising was banned from the sport, ferrari sign up a tobacco sponsor for another four years. that isn't arrogant.

its clever really. somehow they are making Philip Morris believe that they are getting something from all that money they pay.

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 11:21

I just don't see why everyone is still into Team Lotus so much.

it is not about team lotus, for me they can be called Air Asia GP or Tony GP or whatever although Lotus definitely sounds better. but it is interesting to see how differently the 3 teams that started from scratch are developing and how differently the teams sugar daddies are involved. just compare Fernandes, Carabante and Branson ... Yes, Lotus may now only be a second, second and half faster than HRT and Virgin, but in terms of the infrastructure development, marketing etc they are miles ahead in such a short time.

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 11:21

its clever really. somehow they are making Philip Morris believe that they are getting something from all that money they pay.

they are. naming rights alongside the most prestigious brand in f1.

That is true. But that implies to me that they should be a lot closer.

  • Nick15/06/2011 at 11:26

I dont think you have to follow someone for them to DM them as long as they are following you.

most of the people who DM me are spammers so I block them anyway right away :-)

  • James15/06/2011 at 11:26

they are. naming rights alongside the most prestigious brand in f1.

but when it comes to the advertising through the races and tv they get very little coverage. Yes the logo looks like a cigarette packet but you don't really see it that often.

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 11:26

errr... surely you just follow them back to reply?

I mean, I follow someone, then they start to follow me back just to send a DM, then instantly unfollow me again so that I cannot reply.

may seem that way, but it does take time before the research and development actually turns into any results. they are already doing it quite fast but has to consider the opposition as well. just look at Red Bull and their time in F1. They bought existing operation, they hired Newey right away and how long it took them to get from lower midfield to top five and then to the top. at one point they were even slower than Toro Rosso ...

  • Nick15/06/2011 at 11:30

    This tweet is interesting

All the big names have demo teams (ex test teams), all do lone events. So, get them together, no racing, open the garages: F1 says welcome!

    http://twitter.com/#!/MrSteveMatchett/statuses/80950024430813185

Why not have a 2nd race team instead of a demo team and do more races?

    *ducks*

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 11:35

That is true. But that implies to me that they should be a lot closer.

I remember few years ago reading and interview with Pat Symonds in F1Racing. that was the season when Renault was very disappointing following their title winning years. and their main issue was calibrating the wind tunnel or how they called it. basically they had all their facilities in place already but simply for some reason used them wrong. and this happened to established team after just winning 2 titles with Alonso. now fast forward and imagine team that at the same time builds the infrastructure and learns how to use it ...

I had experience in my own business working with German printing company. They bought and installed printing line to print large large stuff. This was their third, to expand the capacity. Depsite all their expertise, despite having the same 2 machines right next to the new one, it took over a year before they were able to run it at full capacity achieving same results as on the old one... I now replace the printing line with wind tunnel for example ...

friend of mine got into the paddock for a first time thanks to Mr Pollock. and that time he was very "close" to his sister in law :-) funny story came with it - while passing him the pass his sister in law told him that he would spend the GP weekend at the bar ... bar was BAR but actually just a bar full of MUMM

    (delete if stinks of libel)

19 is the limit i think, of how many weekends we are prepared to give up a year. 20 or 21 races will mean some have to be watched mid-week, at our convenience.

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 11:54

  • Elissa15/06/2011 at 11:59

Sky + is essential......I missed Hungary live but it was ok watching back, I was dubious I wouldn't enjoy it as much...the trick is too convince yourself the race hasn't started until you press play!

    the problems are:

    a) live is live

    b) hard to escape knowing results

    c) to enjoy the race one needs to follow live timing and that is not possible when watching replay

    d) I tried to watch Canada on Monday again and it was not on iPlayer

    e) I have no idea how to record from my Tv through the cable set top box

    f) if I manage to do that I would be stuck with Slater and Yoong !

    f) is the worst !

  • Christine15/06/2011 at 12:00

    f) is the worst !

    Hehehe.

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 12:01

    c) to enjoy the race one needs to follow live timing and that is not possible when watching replay

you can with the f1 timing app.

can't help with the rest though!.

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 12:01

My friend had a big family lunch last weekend and she said that at 3pm, all the boys rushed downstairs to watch the start of Le Mans!

I would have nowhere to rush, in massive chinese restaurant downstair means another floor of chinese restaurant :-)

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 12:01

    f) is the worst !

All of those have a workaround.

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 12:02

by the way, talking about Yoong - he gained some serious weight

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 12:02

    c) to enjoy the race one needs to follow live timing and that is not possible when watching replay

We managed watching races fine for years without live timing at our finger tips - why so difficult now?

  • Christine15/06/2011 at 12:02

Indeed. Was it difficult getting the book published?

I don't think difficult is right, it's just a lot of hard work. Totally worth it, though.

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 12:03

We managed watching races fine for years without live timing at our finger tips - why so difficult now?

because FOM is behind FIA... I did watch Turkey without live timing, I found the race a mess, I had no idea what is going on and then was surprised it got 10/10 over here ...

  • Christine15/06/2011 at 12:06

We managed watching races fine for years without live timing at our finger tips - why so difficult now?

I don't know that I've ever watched a race without live timing, except when Bernie breaks it.

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 12:07

    except when Bernie breaks it.

and then panic on Twitter begins :-)

  • RubberGoat15/06/2011 at 12:07

I don't know that I've ever watched a race without live timing, except when Bernie breaks it.

I must admit I hardly ever look at it. SPC Comments, FBFB and TV feed for me.

  • Christine15/06/2011 at 12:08

FBFB would be tough without it :)

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 12:09

I must admit I hardly ever look at it. SPC Comments, FBFB and TV feed for me.

I am in bandwidth saving mode while watching, so one computer BBC and laptop next live timing and if bandwidth allows also tweetdeck. more results in not much moving images and need to resort to Slater&Yoong show on the big screen

  • Elissa15/06/2011 at 12:18

From the pics of Kubica's arm yesterday I looked at it and thought that poor chap is never gonna race in F1 again....his arm looked severely damaged to of needed that amount of reconstruction.

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 12:23

because FOM is behind FIA... I did watch Turkey without live timing, I found the race a mess, I had no idea what is going on and then was surprised it got 10/10 over here ...

Surely that's a fault of the commentators if they're not describing the action in a comprehensive fashion..?

For all his mistakes, it was easy to follow a race with Murray walker at the mic - no live timing was necessary.

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 12:24

For all his mistakes, it was easy to follow a race with Murray walker at the mic - no live timing was necessary.

i don't agree. the problem is the cameras. they cannot follow every aspect of the race in realtime, so live timing is essential.

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 12:25

I am in bandwidth saving mode while watching, so one computer BBC and laptop next live timing and if bandwidth allows also tweetdeck. more results in not much moving images and need to resort to Slater&Yoong show on the big screen

Thing is, I always switch live timing, twitter and FBFB off. It helps when watching what's on screening to not be trying to take in four screens.

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 12:25

ooh retro. how then, can you keep track of what, say, buemi is doing while the leaders are battling up front?

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 12:25

i don't agree. the problem is the cameras. they cannot follow every aspect of the race in realtime, so live timing is essential.

Fair enough, but I never have any problem following the race when I just sit down and watch it.

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 12:26

ooh retro. how then, can you keep track of what, say, buemi is doing while the leaders are battling up front?

If I want to look out for Buemi, I just check the ticker at the bottom of the TV screen.

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 12:27

Fair enough, but I never have any problem following the race when I just sit down and watch it.

it depends what you're trying to follow. if you're happy to take what you're being fed, then your situation is perfect. if you're interested in something else that the director doesn't care about, then you're blind.

  • F1Wolf15/06/2011 at 12:28

Surely that's a fault of the commentators if they're not describing the action in a comprehensive fashion..?

I think if you follow only the leaders you will be fine. But if you want to have overall picture you need some data on the screen. and there isn't enough considering all the strategies and mix ups during race. No refueling everlasting bridgestones era was easier to follow with tv only :-)

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 12:29

If I want to look out for Buemi, I just check the ticker at the bottom of the TV screen.

it's hardly ever there? cut to an onboard and the info disappears.

our 9 screen setup is awesome in that you can see everything you'd ever want to know just by turning your head. there's no public data that is being missed, we know more than the bbc commentary teams an regularly correct them when they get confused.

it's absurd that some many screens are required, but i'm not watching f1 without them anymore.

  • Elissa15/06/2011 at 12:30

I think live timing is a must....you keep abreast of everything.

That said...the day we had to watch Turkey back on record (first time 5 years..boo) it was quite nice to just watch the race.....not frantically trying to follow live tming, twitter feed, SPC, driver tracker, onboard view......

  • Leigh O'Gorman15/06/2011 at 12:31

it's hardly ever there? cut to an onboard and the info disappears.

Really? I've found it disappears for at most a few seconds, before returning.

it's absurd that some many screens are required, but i'm not watching f1 without them anymore.

Fair enough. I like my F1 with a cup of tea and digestive biscuits

    :)

Agreed....far too many screens...I have to prooritise now or can't fit everything in to view...onboard view is usually the first to be dropped.

you should have gone to the badger event. we would've gone, but need more screens.

I was there this year at Supercar Sunday...got home and couldn't believe what happened between Stefan Mucke and Richard Westbrook.....Mucke probably deserves to be suspended for that (crashing into an opponent whilst seeking retribution)

Ooh gawd silly me...sorry....now if you've said F3 i would've taken it as meaning the British series :-)

Do you follow the Renault 3.5 series? I'm trying to persuade some friends to go up Silverstone for the world series day.....blank faces when i tell them that the 3.5 is feeder to F1/GP2....

I often seem to draw blank faces when I offer people a day out to Silverstone...

I'm pretty much R1/X-Class...although occasionally race A class online....are you a member of the Forza forums? What's the lobbies like with Tag and Virus? I might be doing the Silverstone F3.5 race if I'm around, but I have to watch funds as I'm trying to sort out a trip to spa for next month.

Both have their merits and are pretty different experiences

Forza satisfies the car nut in me, Forza 4 will take that a step further it seems :D, Forza is more enjoyable multiplayer i think.

F1 2010 is the best F1 game to date, replacing "Grand Prix 2", sure it lacked in some area's (being able to win the title in my debut season in a Lotus?) but left all other console F1 attempts in the dust, Codemasters have done well, Hence my wanting 2011.

Fortunately I have a PS3 so you can't watch my horrific attempts at driving- I get distracted way too easily, as proved by the fact that this should be me doing revision #badmark

  • Elissa15/06/2011 at 14:27

    Matt:

Added you on Forza....would be great to know if there's anyone else on here that races online (maybe a post Christine...hint hint to all the online racers out there!)

    Very own Sidepodcast team...

    Gotta go work..boo....laters

Must say, my experiences of reading an ebook for the first time on my lunch on my HTC were most positive today. Didn't think I'd get into reading off a screen.

    Maybe it's just Christine's wise words in 365 F1 Stories :)

    Hi Bassano and Pat.

Bassano, I am sure I talked to your voice double this afternoon on the phones. Honestly thought it was you at first until they said their details and I realised it obviously couldnt be you. But it was just absolutely bizarre! It was your voice!

Christine was looking for a planet with a purple and I have found her one. She has to organise her own transport though.

I knew Mars has a pink-red sky but I didn't know sunsets are purple. Fortunately the iplayer educated me.

Yeah the tour was good...we saw them in Reading

There's a podcast off the back of it called 'The Pod Delusion' which is questions they couldn't answer at the time. The show was 4 guest speakers duscussing topics such as Evolution, The Standard Model, Aims of CERN, The Big Bang, Fallacy of Home Remdies.....was good stuff

The module is just a huge Astronomy one...covers everything from The sun through to Heat Death etc...

  • Elissa15/06/2011 at 18:55

Yup.....but instead of the usual direct way (a photographic plate) we're looking at extracting the information from the condensate cloud the light is passed through which creates the imprint on the plate

Someone is going to have to start one soon. All those satellites and bits of space debris are a gold mine. If you get really big you could offer and asteroid disposal service as well to save them smashing into us

Stewart also suggested they try a dirt track car next time

  • Pat W15/06/2011 at 19:10

Interested to hear Lewis may join Red Bull next season, wouldnt that liven things up??

Vettel and Hamilton in the same team would be fun although I reckon it would turn out like it did with Alonso, eventually

  • Steven Roy15/06/2011 at 19:12

Interested to hear Lewis may join Red Bull next season, wouldnt that liven things up??

That has been rumoured for a while. I would guess this is his new management company exercising their muscles.

I almost fell off my chair yesterday when someone suggested that the reason Lewis has been involved in so many incidents recently is because he is missing the steadying influence of his father who did a great job with him. After all the grief the two of them used to get because his father was always around and now the lack of him is the problem.

  • Lukeh15/06/2011 at 19:12

Interested to hear Lewis may join Red Bull next season, wouldnt that liven things up??

I wonder who would win in an overly father figure role - Ron Dennis or Helmut Marko?

There's only one way to find out! FIIIIIGHT!!

  • Steven Roy15/06/2011 at 19:14

Vettel and Hamilton in the same team would be fun although I reckon it would turn out like it did with Alonso, eventually

Given even chances Lewis would destroy Vettel. However he would have to get Helmut Marko out of the picture and he would have to make sure that his car was like Vettel's and did not have all the problems like Webber's. Right now the number two Red Bull is like the number two Lotus used to be. THe team can make one car that dominates the championship and the other is just a disaster

    @prodnose

Apparently the moon is going to be at it's reddest tonight at 23.43. If you miss that you can also look up at 00.43 and catch it on Sky +1.

    :)

I can't see the moon now..

    Welcome to my last fortnight

It's my fault tbh. I'm so hungover. My taxi home last night drove past the milkman on his morning round.... :P

I thought milkmen died out ten years ago.

I can see a total lunar eclipse out the window :)

According to my sky tracker thing the moon is below the horizon until 9:15pm so you have almost an hour before the clouds are a problem

Have Wordpress.com peoples tried out the new Custom Design thing? All those hours fighting Typekit and they've just made it so simple! It's genius, although a paid feature. You can play for free though.

It's awesome. I've sort of come to the conclusion that as I've only just tweaked the fonts, I'm happy to leave it, but next time I get bored, I'll be all over it :)

I'm wary of doing anything tonight as I may lose hours tinkering and that's just with fonts let alone design. :) I don't know anything about CSS so that's a bigger job.

    Hi Kathi

all but a few sheep are now gone.

Already? I thought it would take a long time yet. Are you still snowed in?

  • Mr C15/06/2011 at 20:17

2-3 weeks after the last big group is born they get to go into the mountains. In the middle of September the farmers collect them again and then they go to the slaughter house. At least most of them.

No we had some snow on Monday but today it's only raining. I blame the volcano

  • Steven Roy15/06/2011 at 20:25

So does that mean you are going into the mountains to watch them or is it time to return to Finland or Germany?

No we had some snow on Monday but today it's only raining. I blame the volcano

They get the blame for all sorts so why not the local weather?

  • Kathi15/06/2011 at 20:27

I'm going back to the hotel where I worked last year until September and then I will probably move back to Germany for good *sniff*

  • Steven Roy15/06/2011 at 20:29

There are worse places than Germany. I am sure you will not be back long before you get the urge to travel again.
