Another sports-packed day is up ahead as the World Cup rolls on. The group of death is up ahead so the action should be good. But first and foremost, let us return to what has been happening in motor sports and our beloved Formula One:

  • KangarooTV's podcast still cannot compare to the high standard that Christine and Mr. C has set.
  • Virgin Racing is probably the most fan-friendly F1 team, giving RG's new team championships a shout-out on Twitter. That definitely deserves some Christine points.
  • And talking about Christine points, her rankings are up and Timo continues to pip Karun to the top spot. How will Karun fight back (especially when Timo shares pictures of delicacies)?
  • Tweets of the week makes a return. Do share any others that you find interesting!
  • Allan McNish's Le Mans diary has been updated with his view of the Audi dominated podium. Previous parts can be found here.
  • Motor sports on land may be fast and furious, but motor sports on water is no easier. Here are the F1 teams giving boat racing a try. Which reminds me of a certain Finn's exploits on motorboats...
  • The credit crunch hits everyone. Even the great Ferrari.
  • PINGs: Leigh, Chris Hughes, and Joe Saward
  • Alex has managed to lead the cookie monster astray by making it giggly. Oh no.
  • I am no expert (I prefer PC games) but the new Xbox 360 does look sleek. And the good news for those of you salivating over it is that you can go ahead and get one since it is out in the market.
  • The football on display yesterday was nothing compared to Germany's decimation of Australia, though Japan and Paraguay did put in good performances. But what is more interesting is the fact that F1 related teams triumphed over the ones with no F1 relations. Should Argentina, Portugal, the Africans and other Asian teams start worrying yet?

Finally, I should end with a reminder to keep breakout comments to the breakout threads. Mr. and Mrs. C have kindly kept Sidpodcast a rather organized group so far, so we really shouldn't mess everything up by commenting on the nearest possible thread rather than the appropriate one. We all have our lapses in concentration, but a little effort will go a long way!

There should be a football post today too, so I look forward to seeing you there (as well as here on the daily of course). ;)

depends on location, different beach different set up, but in general it is very competitive and often corporate thing. I did it once (in last century :-) ) and I had enough ... it was fun but I prefer watching from the beach of from a boat :-)

I've never actually had Red Bull... I also recently read a study that said regular coffee drinkers get no energy boost over zero coffee drinkers. Those who are worst off are those who have it in fits and starts as they get withdrawal symptoms.

I don't really drink coffee that regularly, just whenever the urge hits me. Hopefully I don't get withdrawal! (I mean getting eye bags are bad enough...)

problem with SVK is that this is the first world cup game ever and it is against a team that even a draw would be considered failure (no disrespect meant). not a good combo. I would very much prefer the first game to be against Italy ...

Do you need any info on NZ? There's not many highlights among the players I guess, but from what I have been told, NZ qualifying has really been supported by the country. A big surprise considering football is a minor sport down there.

It's the first time they have qualified since '82...

  • F1Wolf15/06/2010 at 07:37

    true story

  • Pat W15/06/2010 at 19:12

I think it's raised to them that alot of people think they are biased.

Perhaps it occurred to them that slating the guy that took out their mate's car (Olly Gavin) and allowed their other mate's team (Audi), which gives them promotional consideration, to win... might be a touch biased, yes.

The other thing is they've never really liked Peugeot, or their hiring of F1 guys over people who've been in sportscars for years back when they first came in.

  • Steven Roy15/06/2010 at 19:15

Maybe the fact that the Peugeot people went to the Audi garage to congratulate them has toned down RLM

The other thing to note is that in past years, Speed has taken the RLM feed overnight, and Hindy does their ALMS qualifying coverage which is aired online-only.

i have never heard them, and that pathetic boast has made sure i never bother to do so

  • RubberGoat15/06/2010 at 19:41

wtf? why has sidepodcast come under fire there? wow, seriously gone down in my estimation.

it was a bit childish, if you look at his twitter page he was clearly getting alot of it from lots of people

So take a breath or ignore it. If you're going to rant like that and wind up F1 fans week in week out you should expect heat in return...

  • Alison15/06/2010 at 19:41

I like ye olde comments :D I used them more or less all day Sunday. They're super. Click to quote makes it complete :D

Yeah I just saw that... The comments just get longer and longer. I will admit to just deleting a bunch of comments off the front there, it's not that easy to pick them out without breaking the whole comment.

Thank you very much, Mr C and Jeremy. I had a wonderful day, the exams felt easy, I think I've got a pair of distinctions for them with no more than 3 errors on each paper (though I won't know for certain for a few months) and the only thing I might have broken was the printer (it got a bit confused during the second exam straight after I'd sent it my last two pages, meaning I had to wait 15 minutes for the technician to fix it).

  • Scott Woodwiss15/06/2010 at 20:48

Have to admit, the graphics on the Top Gear Test Track section were insane! I thought for a second it was real footage!

  • Alianora La Canta15/06/2010 at 20:55

I have no idea when the Medical Terminology one will turn up because I've never had AMSPAR as an exam board before. However, the fact that everyone taking that exam in the country does it at the same time suggests to me that months, rather than weeks, is the likely timeline.

Document Presentation is via OCR and their typical turnaround time is 3 months. So I'm expecting to know in September (possibly late August if they're feeling particularly efficient).

  • jpancoast15/06/2010 at 20:56

i reckon you can buy the cars, but you'll only be able to use them for time trials.

They can (last time I heard of it being done for a commercial unlicensed computer game that wasn't an add-on was for Johnny Herbert's Racing). But they can't be called F1 cars in the game without the FOM's permission (not because of the law but because FOM will launch an expensive suit against them), just that they're Team X's cars that happen to look suspiciously like their F1 cars.

how did it miss all of that? they don't have 3 millions listeners though. that's bull.

    they may have got 3 million page views, but not unique listeners. they won't get that many a year. {Comment #202}

If it helps to figure it out any, Sidepodcast is over 1.1 million places higher on the Alexa rankings (estimate of visits based on Alexa toolbar users) than Radio Le Mans (SPC is #393,161 and Radio Le Mans is #1,523,149). So presumably Sidepodcast gets a lot more traffic than Radio Le Mans does ;)

Soyuz has been around since the early 1960s. It is not the most advanced spacecraft in the world

    Thing is, as there's no real alternative, it's not even a reflection on their quality at all. There's just nothing else if you want to follow the race. {Comment #207}

Well, nothing in audio, at any rate...

One that despite help I was never able to find. Even if I could, it doesn't explain why their own site, which has the actual audio, has so few listeners (I don't think Sidepodcast manages 3 million viewers per weekend and it has many more visits than RLM).

  • Steven Roy15/06/2010 at 21:39

Why are the ground crew asking them what the G loads are? DOn't they have telemetry?

am amazed it still flies. and they're retiring the shuttle?

  • Steven Roy15/06/2010 at 21:42

am amazed it still flies. and they're retiring the shuttle?

This launches every time and doesn't need special weather conditions to land because it flies like a rock

  • Steven Roy15/06/2010 at 21:43

It seems to be traditional to have something dangling from a string so you can work out the direction of the G loads

  • me15/06/2010 at 21:43

Only saw the Brazil game. They look good. North Korea sat back and defended until Brazil scored. There are links to the goals in the appropriate thread

and now he's been credited with sidepodcast's lack of 3m listeners. not bad for an hours tweeting.

Sorry about that, I have no idea why it was brought up. :(

  • Nick16/06/2010 at 06:56

He is banned from meeting members of my family until he can control himself!!!

Ill be fine.... as long as they arent on twitter....

  • Nick16/06/2010 at 06:59

But surely the teams can turn round and say "It's our car and we can have it where we want it"?

I think thats the policy, they can licence though bernie, but ultimatly they own the cars and the ip.

I would be surprised if the red bull cars arent there. I guess that means we could have torro rosso too.

I expect mclaren will want the mp4-12c in the game so i guess there is a posibility of that being there too.

We know the SLS is on the cover art so mercedes might slip an F1 car too.

I expect Renault to be in the game, so no reason they cant slip in a car.

Could be quite a nice grid forming up

It's not your fault Nick - it seems that the people tweeting you may have got a bit frazzled from all the responses. In fairness, had Hindy not called Ant names and had such a go at him it wouldn't have happened.

I am going to listen through to parts 17, 18, 19 of the coverage but I am certain there has been some editing...
