Aaaaand breathe. My oh my, that is what I call the perfect sporting weekend. In fact, did anyone notice what the weather was like? We covered literally everything here at Sidepodcast, from the F1 in Canada, to the Le Mans 24 Hours in... Le Mans to the World Cup in South Africa. Just fan-tastic. And there was more, rugby union, tennis, all commented on this very site. Shall we move onto the bulletpoints? I think we should.
- Lets start with F1, just brilliant. Canada never fails to be amazing, and while it wasn't the same result as 2008 (I still don't like Petrov) the race itself was fantastic. As usual, Lukeh has his awesome recap of what went on. I have my look back on the new teams, which can I just say is looking like Richard Branson will be wearing that stewardess outfit. And I'd love to point out VIVA F1's Penalty page, which has a lot of writing under 'Canada'.
- The FBFB made its return. Woooo! And it also featured added tables, which look awesome too. Highlights on the return can be found here.
- Sadly, my interest in Le Mans ended when both Newcastle born drivers of Rob Bell and Warren Hughes retired. But it still went on without them and was apparantly a cracking race. I think we need to say a big well done to Alianora and other peoples who stayed up the whole 24 hours. You people are crazy.
- This football thing is proving to be very popular. And even though F1 has sometimes clashed with the games, there's been enjoyment throughout. From the heroics of Siphiwe Tshabalala and the direness of France v Uruguay, we've covered it all. Shame it took till Germany v Australia before the first really great match of the tournament. Here is whats coming up today:
- Denmark v Netherlands, 12:30 GMT+1 - The Dutch, my tips for the win. So you know they will fail.
- Japan v Cameroon, 15:00 GMT+1 - Cameroon, or, that team who used to have Roger Milla.
- Italy v Paraguay, 19:30 GMT+1 - The World Champions against a very good South American, could be game of the day.
- Speaking of Siphiwe Tshabalala, Mrs C has set up a dream team on the all new Sidepodcast Wiki. Not based on how good they are, but what they look like, sound like, generally everything other on how good they are. Names in there feature the mentioned Tshabalala as well as Peter Crouch and Miroslave Klose.
And thats it for today, another Monday comes around. For me, picked up the Most Man of the Match Award last night at my teams presentation. Which came as a big surprise to me, considering I thought I'd only had two all season. Not complaining. But, thankfully, last week of exams for me, sadly I miss the mighty Dutch and the terrifyingly good New Zealand, but after that World Cup all the way.
Like lou yesterday, just like to wish everyone in the middle of exams right now the best of luck, no matter what they are. Not a fun period at all, but, at the end of it all, there is a nice treat to look forward to I'm sure.
Have a nice Monday.
hey rg's daily. my what lovely bullet points you have.
My, they look beautiful. With that, going to bed, I might catch ya's all in the morning. Night and lotsa love
night squire.
Wow, what lovely bullet points you have.
Night RG
I was right! I have no work to do. I hope I haven't jinxed myself :D
For the new football fans. You will not see this at this world cup or any football match in the future ever. Goalkeepers are all a bit crazy but this guy was one of the most mental ever. This is 100% real

I'm glad you said that, I'm relying on the evening games being good because the others are on during work time. I can easily see why people take time off, officially or not :)
I have the whole weeks Le Mans coverage on my mp3 player to listen to at work. It's going to be a good week :D
did we see the second video diary from mcnish?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHuH7nHUJ58
Why would you do that to yourself? Surely most of that is pointless filler.
I am adding the Tour de France to my Google Calendar.
Because it's amazing, Le Mans is the greatest race on earth and I didn't get to watch it this weekend so a good 30-40 hours of Mr Hindhaugh is what is required.
Can we do that the TMS game aswell? :D
I have no idea what TMS is, i meant TMR, clearly
if it's radiolemans i couldn't listen to it. flicking between eurosport and then, the quality was severely lacking. i swear it was that bad in years gone by.
No.
*wasn't that bad
not a hindy fan?
booooo
There are more than 2
http://lemans.autosport.com/allan-mcnish-video-diary/
Kill me now, instead of something good on my tv we are watching the music video channel and nothing makes me feel like a grumpy old lady like modern music. Plus since no one is working its very, very loud
in years gone by, it would've been 100% rlm, but this year we had 50/50 between that and tv. i kinda preferred the tv.
Although clearly I'd like to have every form of racing under the sun involved. :) If only I didn't work..
Anyway the stuff I've got already is an absolute pain to score, now I've got to decide the best way to do Le Mans because a question has come up.
he's ace!
Modern mainstream music, I presume... other stuff isn't too abd
*bad
Me too, especially when Haven was on
Haven was classic as always this weekend
on that subject, i'm thinking we should keep the eurosport subs and see what the rally/gp2 coverage is like.
One or the other is always delayed which really does bug me, I've never had a tv stream all the way through or even for a large part of the race. Usually I'll play RLM on my laptop and walk around my house with my headphones on doing other stuff that needs doing
Hooray...
GP+ is in the mailbox
:D
excellent
Very main stream. Its all auto tuned hip hop. Is so much swearing really necessary? #veryoldlady
I'm keeping it for Le Tour (although tbh I'll probably be on ITV4 nightly highlights instead). But yeah definitely. Their MotoGP coverage is better than BBC's too.
talking of poor quality broadcasts...
http://www.kangaroo.tv/podcast/Trackside/Audio/2010_025_Canada_Recap.mp3
(a little better this time)
if you were bored by the f1 race, i cannot image how you'll enjoy 24hrs of that replayed, but please prove me wrong.
I hadn't seen the one you linked to. Love his attitude on the podium and for someone with his record to look so happy with a third place trophy when the only thing that stopped him winning was TK's Priaulx incident
THE most catchy song imaginable. I LOVE the tour de france. When is it on?? :D
i didn't know that. i guess it's easier if you've one it before? but still a great attitude.
July 3 - 25
i shall :D endurance races are totally different, they arent about the race and who overtook who, they're about the story of it, I love the story. oh and I secretly want to have Nick Damans job
#isntjealousatallnotonebitgrr
errrrrgh, its awful!!
rg just got a virgin racing shoutout!
http://twitter.com/VirginRacing/status/16104888336
:)
THe thing is he has won two but he has led another 6 or 7 for a very long time and lost for all sorts of stupid reasons. He is well ovedue another couple of wins at least
Oooh I'll be at Nick's then. He has paid for sports coverage. Maybe I can watch it.
Sounds like daytime Radio 1 here.. #gettingold
Well done RG
Niice
it was worse last week. car crash podcasting.
take it, you could probably do better. for a man who slates ted kravitz, i didn't rate his efforts this year.
but he's just reading from a script, and badly, and he cant say Alonso!!!
Virgin seem to be taking everyone on twitter into the paddock. Is it our turn in spa?
It often smacks of "he's got my job, rah rah rah" i dont like it.
well, they're focusing on... bloggers...
just sayin'
You did say you wanted to stay indoors, I'm sure 4 or 5 hours per day of cycling is a good excuse
i love that they like it, even though they're loosing. very cool.
I suddenly like them even more.
in the battle for hearts and minds, virgin have it nailed.
They didn't even edit out him clearing his throat and saying the same thing again!!!!
*faints*
I want to stay indoors so I don't get skin cancer and die. I'm sure Nick would approve of your excuse better though :P He already asked what programmes I liked so he could get a collection recorded for me.
oh no!!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexjsnell/4697367267/
and he got the email address wrong the first time so had to say it again a second. im never listening to that ever again
i'd love to know who's behind it. very low budget.
hehe it was only a matter of time
sorry. i can't stop promoting it though. it's so awful it's unreal.
who listens to that and thinks "must get me a kangaroo tv"??
I've noticed that on a couple of BBC podcasts before though. I was horrified!
i actually want to cry
i cant imagine, i think its a podcast for podcasts sake, which never work. he could atleast get someone else in and talk to them
That has to be a crime?
usp content did it on the lotus podcast. only time i've heard it on a professional show. we've done it in the past too.
I think I will celebrate that podcast by booking my kangaroo for spa.
is there a monster protection agency?
:D
I don't mind the BBC ones as much because it's less (obviously) scripted and more chatting and when you're chatting you do make mistakes sometimes. BBC makes me feel like im there with them chatting about the GP, that guy makes me feel like ive been really naughty and have to sit in front of the head teacher
I think one time it was just a podcast output of a live radio show so I will forgive them that I suppose. They didn't edit the broadcast in any way which seems fair enough. Another time it was pre-recorded though I'm pretty sure.
Beer Monster now..
Can you get them on the day or do you have to book?
omg: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lotusracing/4696518902/
really?
Le Tour de France will visit the Belgian town of Spa on Monday July 5th #worldscollide
#confidentialfromamy
Mercedes videos really bug me, they are in German and then some posh man talks over them in English. grrr.
I think if you book in advance they are cheaper
wow..
the football one? it's the bloke from inside grand prix.
should we take bets on the points drop?
It's not just the football one, there are alot of them.
yeah. RTV do both IGP and and have the contract for mercedes media videos. mercedes choose to use the IGP edit rather than recut it themselves.
cheaper is good
Yep
don't forget you can share, no need for one each, usually.
It's E50 for the weekend I think if you book now. You could always share one with someone else if you get a headphone splitter? Cheap is good :D
fashion disaster like that must be a minus 10, right?
Mm yeah, I think I was waiting to see who else was booking one but I can't remember
I think Schumi and Rosberg need to lose points for that too
Oh Heikki no! Lookingspiffy certainly wasn't kidding. Although, well done for keeping with team colours?
Ah yes it is cheaper online. You can expect to pay up to E85 on the day.
only 3 or 4, I've seen worse
85! online it is then. but not right now
I said 1am, so ta-daaaa...
(Before anything even says a thing, I must answer "yes, this will be edited tomorrow")
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2010/06/11/2010-canadian-grand-prix-montreal-round-8-june-11th-13th/
Its 1am!? oh no, gotta sleep, adios!
see ya Jon
Night, have fun
Iplayer recommendations are very odd. I can't imagine what I've been watching that makes it think I'd want to watch a documentary about Richard Nixon or an expose into Man U!?!
Mine is booked, I still have to bring along my race radio headphones though since there is no kangaroo in monza. Might as well hook them up to the kangaroo as apparently the headphones it comes with are a bit useless?
never used them, always take our own which are noise cancelling.
Knowing me I will forget the cable to connect the kangaroo to the earmuffs. Now, where is that packing list of mine? ;)
you're more likely to loose them at the track.
I don't want to lose anything on the other side of the world :(
awww.
i din't say nuffink, honest.
Its ok, I think super organisation will win. Unless I get mugged. Perhaps I should go buy a money belt
Give all your money to me and I'll mail it to each country. Promise. :)
There is no excuse for that kind of behaviour!! I had a school teacher who wore a bum bag everywhere. It's scarred me.
I'm going off to find my bed, see ya Monday
see ya pat
you can have mine.
Hallo everyone
hey kathi. how are ya?
fans watched the grandprix from the top of the expo dome? how did they get up there, and good lord what a view!
(just reading gp+)
there was a view of them during FP2
hallo kathi. I tried to translate my german rail tickets yesterday. It would have been easier if I was you :D
i hope they took some pictures.
those pics would be ace - i forgot to screen grab them at the time - very bizarre
I would never wear a bum bag, are you insane?
Tired. Who won that French race?
Is that not what a money belt is? I just always presumed it was a posh name for a bum bag.
not even for a dare??
I can imagine :) It says everything is verboten.
Noo the money belts are the really thin ones you wear under your clothes. I thought they were lame too but travel blogs and forums and my friends keep telling me I should get one
the wrong team and the wrong drivers.
audi #9
I'm always skeptical about risk of mugging. I don't really think anywhere in Europe is much worse than here tbh and I'd feel like a nut walking about with all my valuables under my clothes....
Boo!
I am pessimistic enough to believe that all the tales I read of pickpocketing in barcelona is bound to happen to me.
it was heartbreaking from beginning to end sadly. glad i saw what i did, but also glad it's not back for another 12 months!
I've never had anything discretely stolen. I have had a handbag snatched (here)
Danny hates me :(
what position are you in?
I would cry if that happened. Only because my handbag cost more than everything I keep in it. Same with my wallet, i'd be more upset with losing that than i would with losing its contents.
I don't know. The site won't load.
what are your team names? i'll look.
it was fantastic though,
Thank you. I'm most interested in 'myotherteam' and especially in which position it is in the strategy 1 league.
you are 3rd, behind schuknackers and nae luck.
total = 5361
yell if you need more info.
Thanks. I might need somebody to change my team for me for the next race but not until free practice.
not a problem. one of us can surely cover that.
how long has it been unavailable to you?
I think since Thursday.
Relaxing to BBC Radio 3 - this is a nice, nice way to finish the weekend. I've two days in work before a have 5 days off work - this is also nice, nice.
can email danny if you like?
good man. going anywhere?
Super Extra Bonus Wow
back to the folks in Ireland - i've not enough money for fanciness i'm afraid. Any spare cash has been put aside for Silverstone Friday / Joe
and 58th overall - not a bad title defense, I say. and you're just 237 pts. behind the lead. :)
hello, folks.
ah yes. you'll have internet though?
i think i'm 200-and-something in the league, but i made big gains this week
:)
and she said she didn't deserve to be in the top 100?!
how's journeyer this fine day?
yep - i'l be prepping my next article when i'm there as well waiting patiently for irl at iowa
hello journeyer
that this weekend?
Phew, that was a good sleep. What a weekend!
No it's OK, it's just a game after all.
I'm gonna do it myself tomorrowno kidding. she's 2nd in our league! given that we're 22nd out of 25 leagues, her points would be very helpful at this point... :D
next sunday evening - not sure of the times, but it's not late (about 8/9pm i think)
seconded (cept for the sleep).
marks out of 10 for the weekend?
suuuure ;)
good, good, thank you. watching Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Goodness knows how much sport I've seen this weekend. :)
:D
wonderful.
i've still only nabbed about 4 hours since i got up saturday morning, but right now i'm still too wired to drop off
just 9 pts. behind the League leader, too. ;)
unreal, isn't it? must time for an off-season. any sport will do.
8 I think. My first (almost all) le mans. Didn't quite manager what Alia did. Amazed I got up at 2am for the gp but it was worth it
normally, it's football offseason, but it's the World Cup! so i don't think any of the major sports are on offseason right now.
it doesn't help that it feels like its 60 degrees in my room - phew
Shoutout to Boston Red Scott, BTW, who's also watching this, either in some Boston pub (pretty jealous) or at the Garden (VERY jealous). :D
Ha! Was a lovely 5 degrees in my room last night.
#heaternotworking
credit to ya, and i agree.
9, easily. :)
i'd agree, but we drew at football and all the pugs broke down. can't be more than an 8, even with f1.
I underestimated the severity of my addiction to FR.
Hey Journeyer, what did you think of Schumis driving in the gp?
ahhh, that is true. :)
i gave it a 9 this weekend - absolutely mega
Yeah the peugout thing put a damper on it.
Hooray 2.5 hours down, 8 to go! I have spent about 2 of those hours bonding with alistair. I wish everyday was a public holiday.
being not in the world cup, i'm not particularly affected by it, so the england draw was fine by me
;)
well, it's as bad, if not worse, than scrappy Australia. and goodness knows how bad that was. i don't know how he's managed to smile to the press after that race. it's like he knows something we don't...
again, i must ask why he's putting himself through this...
:D hehehe. very true. and the Americans were underdogs - i'm happy for their result too.
i think it must be to make me feel sorry for him. which was almost working, 'cept for the massa incident.
Me too. I thought he drove like a real rookie. I don't know what is in his mind
you know he doesn't care about how you feel. :D
but it seems massa didn't push for a penalty, either. the ties that bind, indeed.
oh ya think?
I almost thought kobiashi was in that grey car
but it's the only rational explanation.
true enough. massa had an awful day, it wouldn't have made a difference.
That was karma though. He deserved it for smashing Liuzzi off the road.
true enough. the man was like a ping-pong ball in the opening corner.
in all fairness, massa had a dreadful day today too - he only seemed to come alive when against liuzzi
he's been smiley ever since we came back to Europe, regardless of his form. most odd.
He must really like racing. Or he's getting away from something else....
Mr C, to continue the discussion from a million years ago, Ogg Theora isn't good enough, what about google's VP8 or WebM or whatever it is called?
i am 100% behind the theory of webm. i know that the quality of the vp8 codec is on par with h.264 and thus considerably better than theora.
webm it ticks all the boxes and with google behind it, the format should hopefully have legs.
at the moment it doesn't fit into our apple workflow, and it could be an issue long term if the ipod won't play it. but it gets a big thumbs up from me.
Oh, GP+ has a Bruce mclaren story. Cool !
Client support is surely the issue. This is the problem with no flash support on idevices. However you feel, a lot of sites use it. For a video codec to work, the majority of people need to be able to view it.
that's true. firefox and chrome will support it, the big question mark is down to ipad/ipod support. logic says it won't happen, and we can't really afford to support two standards.
flash can play h.264. hence firefox + flash + h.264 is the solution likely to remain on sidepodcast for the moment.
theora wasn't ever going to happen, because i couldn't bear what it did to the quality. at least with webm, that's one hurdle out of the way.
Is there any chance apple will change their mind?
yup. apple's (very valid) arguments against flash don't hold up against webm. also, google contributes a lot back to webkit, which both safari and chrome are built upon. apple would maybe struggle to argue against the inclusion of a vp8 codec, although that may not stop them trying.
also, you have the movie studios. at the moment apple doesn't dominate hollywood like it does the music industry, and hollywood isn't keen to let them take over. studios could hook up with google and push the format forcing apple to play ball.
whatever happens, it's going to take a while to play out though. which is a bit annoying.
10 past 12 and i've hit a wall. zzzz
I'm just waking up.
Yay for public holiday and extra sleep
PING -->
(edit)
2010 Canadian Grand Prix (Montreal, Round 8, June 11th-13th) - http://tinyurl.com/3ayctuf
Morning all...
KOM NU DANMARK!!!
Ive been thinking, if we cant have tyres like that for every race due to the suppliers, maybe F1 should use concrete tracks instead of asphult for lower grip racing which is clearly far more entertaining?
Morning all. I just saw a Greggs lorry parked at the side of the road. I say me and Lukeh go and hold up the lorry and see about some sausage rolls.
here we have to wait till Wednesday for public holidays :-( the sleep situation is not helped by World Cup with last games finishing close to 5am
Morning. Mmm sausages!
The atmosphere at work tonight almost has me convinced its a weekend, i just know I am going to be confused by what day it is all week. I am almost done for the day though and i'm still awake!
excellent idea if I may so so myself :)
it will be walk in the park :-)
We'll see, but I think Holland will win.
this World Cup the underdogs will rule :-)
You won't be saying that tomorrow I reckon ;)
well, depending on who is the underdog :-)
Home time!
Morning.
Football Ping.
Sorry for the many words and lack or pictures but I had to get so many words in! :P
Interesting stat from AUTOSPORT (PW)http://www.autosport.com/features/article.php/id/2873
Yesterday was the first podium with 3 world champions on it since the 1991 US GP
Right, manic morning over with. Where are we in terms of sport? :)
So I have just updated my Kindle to the latest firmware and now that it has twitter and facebook integration, they have removed the restrictions on international web browsing.
So of course I went here first.
http://twitpic.com/1wppn7
http://twitpic.com/1wpprl
I love it! Because now I have another way to get on the comments anytime, anywhere, FOR FREE.
Fantastic!!
Don't tell Mr C... it looks awful :)
"Just another manic..."
It suuuure does. But I will take ugly when ugly comes for free. Now the comments and I will never be apart. #fatalattraction
Woah. I said fantastic two comments in a row. I need to stop that.
testing!
ooh it looks a little better if i make the font size smaller.
Hehe, it's Amy via Alistair!
i wonder how much I can abuse the internet before they revoke free wireless access for the whole world. I reckon I could do it.
Kindle beats iPad. Boo :-(
Looks like a Game Boy
I talked an iPad owner into getting a Kindle today. He was loving the Kindle app on the iPad and when I told him that it would sync between devices so if he had a Kindle he could pick up where he left off on the iPad he was sold.
I'd say 99% of websites will look awful on the kindle screen though. But it shall come in handy for checking my email or twitter when my phone dies on me :D
Well I don't quite get that. Do you need both?
I wouldn't think so, but he was quite keen to have something to read off that wasn't backlit.
Oh fair enough. Still, I find iPad reading ok.
afternoon gentlefolks
Uh oh, now I am setting up categories to organise my 19 pages of books and I am up to The Book of Giggles. I don't know how to categorise it!
How about "awesome-nicity?"
:D
the problem is I am trying to keep my category list quite short and if I put it in a category like that, it would never have any other books worthy of joining it :D
Oh dear - it's the list conundrum..!
big.fat.hearts!
happy mr. c.
hi mr c
it's beautiful, but in a different way. it's nit like ie6 that looks sorta like it's meant to, but put everything in the wrong places. the layout is correct, just minimalist.
sir
yikes - i went to bed far too late last night - only hitting me now little i've slept since saturday
:o
how are you today anyhoo?
am detoxing from sport. may have to catch only the last football match today.
Ah. My mistake :)
unfortunately, the office has me surrounded by football - i'm surrounding myself with Bach, but it's not enough
hello christine,
feeling better following franck's engine blow-out?
Boo for not watching Denmark :(
Lucky you!
I'm fine. Le Mans, on the other hand, is still stupid.
Don't you mean wonderful and special?
Headphones are my saviour
It's the best race ever - even when your driver doesn't win...
I will respectfully disagree. :)
T'is why it's the last of the Triple Crown...
I felt it was a bit flat this year. '08 was a classic and remains the benchmark.
are they not the big game of the day?
RG says Italy.
My driver didn't win either - this year or last. It was still a good race both times...
I am gutted for Franck though - secretly when I found out TK wasn't going to win I wanted Franck too ;)
denmark have already played? i may struggle to watch that one.
But they are playing a team with just 1 guy in it!*
(*According to the daily :P)
any race compared to that is a bit flat ;)
for me, i think it needs more manufacturer interest to make it the best race of all time. audi vs. pugs can only be of so much interest i think.
Also true!
He is "Very Good" though, i guess he would have to be to qualify all by himself!
Mm. I know Le Mans is good and endurance racing is fun, but I really only watch for Franck.
I can't be expected to be interested in something for 24 hours straight and/or after I have slept.
an enjoyable read from chris hughes about ready, steady, glock:
http://www.theuksportsnetwork.com/social-media-and-formula-1-when-opportunity-beats-strategy/
They're the only two teams that run Diesels, right?
I didn't really have any skin in the game ('cept for Corvette Racing, and only then because they're an American team), but I was still interested. Maybe it's just because I didn't want Peugeot to win anything because they're French :)
Yeah it's a fair call. I think the commentary spoiled it a bit for me this year.
Yeah it certainly used to be better. I think they are holding out for next year's rules, which will be very different.
One thing I liked last year were how different the cars looked and sounded - you could really tell which car was which by the sound of the engine...
yeah. needs more variety in that area.
audi needed more worthy competition.
They need more parity in that area too...
I agree. Look at what Aston or Oreca might have done if those petrols were closer...
in all fairness, the Pug's were faster.
When they actually worked.
Your right. But for me they can be in any class.
LMP1 battle is only part of it. It was so much better when it was Audi vs Pug up front, then Aston vs Corvette having just a good a race in GT1. Now 'Vette have gone to GT2 which was already a bunfight anyway, so it doesn't feel like that has been added to it feels like another race has been 'stolen'.
Aston moved up to P1 but they were only 'best of the rest' and didn't factor in the main result, then they broke.
Actually the reliability level at this year's 24 was diabolical compared to previous years
sure. but with two manufacturers, if one has in built fault, that's game over. the race is handed to the other.
with three or four participants, that's less likely to happen.
I miss Group C :(
they really were. budget cuts d'ya think?
I saw that referenced on twitter somewhere... what is/was Group C?
nevermind.
I suddenly remembered the existence of this thing called "google"!
Almost certainly.
The AMR effort was less factory and more pay-driver, same for some others. I think people are cutting corners to get in.
It's very odd - they got faster too. Both cars were nearly bulletproof last year...
It showed too...
And next year they want to have a subclass of GT2 just for amateurs. Crazy.
Using what kind of cars?
ones covered in pillow padding i hope
Must be no newer than a year old, so probably 997s and F430s
?
Porsches and Ferraris
Yeah I know. Why bother bolstering a strong class with a sub class of amateurs in slower cars? That's dangerous and not worth it...
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/06/14/a-chaotic-weekend-in-canada-is-reflected-in-christines-rankings/
Apparently it is the spirit of Le Mans to have 'gentleman drivers'
I am sure that's part of why they had a big crash in '55 wasn't it?
Regarding Jenson,
did anyone else see he did a bit for the Make-a Wish foundation?
Not quite - that had more to do with Mike Hawthorn's antics, didn't it>
Partly.
hmmm... just popped into the canteen to get some coffee, and that Japan v Cameroon match that is on now is being played in front of what looks like a half-full stadium
Never thought i'd see that at a world cup
wondering how many people lou can name in this shot: http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13253387
why is f1 talk happening in the footy thread and footy talk happening in the daily?
it was going so well...
#blamesteven
Ooops, sorry Mr C
and leigh.
swimming against the tide....
was expecting it all weekend, but unbelievably everything went well.
this is exactly how the Daleks took over the earth in 2150 - true story
:) :)
The Doctor commented in the wrong thread and the Daleks came in on another one, I remember it well.
The silly old goat
Was Saturdays Dr Who worth watching? I'd go to the places that wrote about it but I might get a spoiler..
not watching until tonight - i got fairly pre-occupied with cars to be honest
Finally getting 'round to reading Pat's and Alianora's Le Mans guide.
Something tells me I'm doing something out of order...
You might have missed it :)
Hope it is useful :)
I never did send the rest of that stuff to Alia, I'm useless..
davidson responds to hindy's comments on RLM:
I was none the wiser, for me it was just a normal passing move in the Porsche Curves, like I'd done to 50 or 60 other cars throughout the event. So I was a bit shocked when I was being accused of ending someone's race because I was just completely oblivious.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/84506
also, from the same article, bibendum (hearts) ant:
The Michelin boys tell me I set a record for their tyres during that quadruple stint. All four average laptimes for each stint were quicker than last year's pole time, and in the 3m21s bracket. They had never done that many laps, that fast for such a long period of time.
to be honest i didn't really see anything too wrong with what ant did - it was aggressive, ye, but he was also clear down the inside.
as a viewer, it just looked like the corvette drive lost it on the dirty line
They want me to sign the tyres and they plan to put them in their museum.
:)
:D
A good reason for investigation:
from joe:
...if Nick Heidfeld were driving Michael Schumacher’s car and producing the same kind of performances would not the media in Germany be clamouring for Nick to be replaced?
hell yeah!
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/06/14/looking-back-at-montreal/
hell, even i was shocked by how poor schuey was at the weekend. i hope he doesn't do something stupid, like drive well at valencia
joe's other point in that article is interesting too. they modified the car to make schumi quicker.
Nico may not be Lewis, but he is still young and relatively adaptable - a bit like motorised Tetris
Afternoon all
I have had a genius idea :D
you built a Tetris version of Nico Rosberg??
Hey Scott
You've bought us all cake?
:)
Nico Rosberg Chocolate Mercedes cake???
That's just silly...
I'm hungry for sweets now.....................
Grey shouldn't work on a cake...
Cake shouldn't work on a car either, but...
http://eatyourcaketoo.net/CakeImages/BirthdayCake/Race_Car_Cake.jpg
Not quite. Interesting thought though.
It's regarding my phone. I'll warn you now, this is gonna be a long post.
I currently have an iPhone 3G on O2 and I work for Orange, therefore I would like a contract phone with said network. Unfortunately my contract doesn't end on my iPhone until the end of May next year. So until then, not wanting to spend several hundred pounds on buying out my O2 contract, I shall have to sit tight and wait. However, just now I've had an idea that should help me out once I'm on Orange.
I still have my last phone, a Sony Ericsson that's about 3 years old which is locked onto Vodafone. The plan is this - get it unlocked and put onto Orange, then buy a Pay As You Go sim card and put that in the phone. Then every now and again, top it up with credit, say £5 or £10, whatever, and just let it build up. But I'll still use it occasionally if I want to do the Orange Wednesday thing and get 2 for 1 cinema tickets and pizza. :P
Then, when the time comes and my O2 contract is pretty much at an end, I will request a PAC code from them. In the meantime, I'll get a new phone on contract with Orange and do something called Love Your Number which lets you transfer your PAYG number onto your contract. The good bit of this is any credit you have on that PAYG sim card, plus the Phone Fund you build up every time you top up, gets brought across as well as is credited towards your bill. Then, I use my PAC code to transfer my O2 contract number onto that sim card.
So, I end up with a new phone, my O2 contract number on the sim card and all my PAYG credit and Phone Fund credited towards the bill. Sorted!
My phone makes phones calls..........
(sheepish)
didn't realise liam from williams had a youtube account. forgive me for embedding this here, it's to brilliant to miss!
Saw it yesterday... I see Lotus are as quick in water as they are on land.
:)
it was included in paddock life. worth a read: http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/84510
people cooked timo's recipe!

That's ace!
I forgot E3 is on!
Microsoft up first now:
http://kotaku.com/5562876/xbox-360-at-e3-2010-live
natal?
they prevewed that yesterday calling it "Kinect"
http://kotaku.com/5562532/our-first-look-at-natals-new-games-software
there will probably be more today i think
ace :)
Wooooooooooooooooooop :D I do love microsoft's e3 conferences.
evening all.
Hello Mr Lukeh
im not certain so dont blame me if there isnt!
this one snuck up on me.
It's my favourite gaming time of the year, announcements everywhere and funky conferences from the big three and many big developers
Although nintendo use their conference usually to brag how rich they are
YouTube doing streaming I think: http://www.youtube.com/e3?feature=ticker
I don't like this kinect thing, playign games without a controller sounds stupid to me. It sounds technically impressive but still.
hahaha they found a use for zune!
That's stunning :)
Just testing.
Hey ho.
Why am I so tired today? Nothing to do with the fact I was up at 5.30 for a run, I'm sure.
Did we time how long it took them from the start of mentioning partnership of sport to mentioning Robert Green's mistake?
They had to chuck it in there. Silly ESPN people.
No football in the daily, peoples.
It was in the microsoft E3 conference, sorry
Oh, never mind then. Worlds collide.
How about classic F1? I decided I needed a pick-me-up, so am watching 1995 Canadian GP.
football was shown at e3?
There is only one way talking to your xbox could ever be useful
"Xbox - go and buy me a sausage roll"
Job done. Technology is very scary though. It's the future, NOW.
Oh? Who's driving and are they doing well?
how?
they announced espn would be on the xbox 360. USA only, of course ;)
oh wow. live streaming in hd or sd?
Highlights on the BBC website here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8728465.stm
And I have the full race from a download ages ago.
Ferrari have Alesi and Berger, Benetton (remember them) have Darth and Herbert, Williams have Hill and Beardface.
might take a look at that. ta.
Oh, Rubens and Irvine in Jordan.
Can't remember, the general cheesiness was annoying me but it's free for people who have an xbox live account so you can't fault that really I suppode
Really good race. If you can find the full one, that's worth a watch.
Thy are now showing the kinect mr c ;)
Oh the cheese, THE CHEESE. I can't bare to watch it.
In the "who's doing well stakes", Barrichello, Irvine and Alesi, Schumacher, Morbidelli and Panis made the points. Watch it to find out who came where. ;)
ohh. too much going on all of a sudden. one second.
:D
It makes ninetendo's horendous wii music thing look like a very serious concept!
So, they expect you to jump like that in a living room/bed room?
Was just reading the comments while enjoying 5 minutes rest and a cup of tea.. so a very quick reply from me before i'm off again..
From left to right on the front row.
erm.. mystery photographer, James Moy, Vladimir Rys, and Charles Coates.
I'm not yet at the stage where i can identify them from the back of their heads ;)
and now... i leave. i hope that helps mr c.
I've completely lost track of which thread this is in but Timo has picked a winner (and Rob is still cooking)

WOW. Microsoft announced a new xbox 360... and it's available from today. Wowee.
evening
Is there a live stream for the Microsoft conference?
It's finished now, best to check sites like gamespot, IGN, joystiq etc for news. They showed a new Kinect-based Forza game.
Is it an actual Forza game? I saw on the live blog that Turn 10 appeared on stage.
Also, are there any pics of the new 360?
what are your impressions?
Imagine if it's a Kinect version of Forza 3. If only you could use Kinect to create paint jobs!
did we ping tweets of the week, btw? don't remember seeing it: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/06/14/tweets-of-the-week-lotus-lapping-rival-new-teams/
(sorry christine if you're invisible)
I thought it was a terrible conference. Although the smaller xbox 360 with twice the size hard drive, built in wifi and it actually being quiet (the 360 is VERY loud) for the same price as current models plus being available from today was a mindblowing announcement.
In general it was poor though. Too much emphasis on Wii-copying titles but the kinect has potential. Just think Microsoft are gonna try and concentrate too much on a saturated Wii audience.
Sony's and Nintendo's are tomorrow. I hope to god Sony have something about GT5. They better!
*shakes fist at Sony Lukeh-style*
http://www.flickr.com/photos/majornelson/sets/72157624274842982/
It's a lot smaller
understood
They HAVE to announce a release date for GT5 or there will be pitchforks.
But will it Red Ring as often?
Evening all,
You know they'll just be late anyway? GT's are always late.
Yeah but it's taking the mickey now, it was supposed to be a PS3 launch title 3 years ago.
woah, that is quite a while ago
then they confirmed it would be out December 2009
then... it wasnt.
:)
My podcast host are moaning at me because ive gone over my limit for this month. My listening figures have quadrupelled in the last week, scary
Gosh, that Allan McNish eh.
You know the last full GT game was now 6 years ago. This is getting silly.
Any idea why?
w00t! although a familiar tale.
GT4 was 6 years ago? I suddenly feel very old
Yup, and even despite that I consider GT3 better than GT4.
I want to change the itunes feed to my real host, it would be so much easier, but I don't know how
could be worse could be duke nukem forever
Announced in 1997, development continued until 3d realms went out of business in 2009
I prefer the tracks in GT4 but prefer GT3 overall
And even then in 2009 there was no expected release date :D
I remember feeding my son when he was just a baby, then him falling asleep in my arms while I played GT3 and doing my best not to wake him up.
hehe thats awesome.
I know what you mean. Le Mans and Nordschleife are awesome.
GT 5's gonna have NASCAR!
I've started playing GT4 again recently and unlocked the older Le Mans with no chicanes. It totally scared me.
Seriously?
Imagining you're in a P1 car going over 200+ on those roads must be staggering. Good thing they put the chicanes in
there's an xml block you need to add:
<itunes:new-feed-url>
http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html
but i don't write my own rss feeds?
who does then?
they're automatic, podcast machine does the podcast rss and wordpress.com does the blog one
ahh, you might have to resubmit it to itunes again i think. the xml tag is the only way i know how.
Play NR2003 with the GTP mod and find the old Le Mans. Sauber C9 at full chat is an awesome feeling, getting the SOB stopped is a handful mind!
mmm, thought so, ive avoided changing it for ages because of that
I remember when I had the Prototpe-C mod for F1 Challenge. I could drive the Sauber C11 all day long with the noise it made.
I'm not sure what to bring to keep me entertained on the train tomorrow... I have to go to Manchester for a course and I really can't be bothered.
Thankfully I've printed off GP+ for me to read on the plane tomorrow - anything to keep mind off being in the air
Is that the one with the flat-12 Mercedes engine? I'm so gutted they didn't enter F1 with that powerplant.
Nope, that's the C291. The C11 still had the V8.
Ah yes, that turbocharged 5 litre V8. Got some serious horsepower that unit!
I may have changed it, but I'm not sure. Lets hope so!
Have we all had a fun day?
dull, very dull...
booo
that's what i said
I thought that was "boo" out of boredom?
I was saying boo-urns
it was actually "boo" out of "boo-urns"
Nick is ignoring me!! :(
good think there lukeh
;)
you are both too cool :D
Is he asleep?
I'm loving it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRT70ceAMQ4
good times
NO! He's ignoring me on purpose!!
Something about writers block....
Swap? I've had a rrrrubbish day, I've got a stinking cold and sore throat. It's very annoying
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53iddd5IcSU&feature=related
Ahhh, boo :( Get better soon there.
Ah thats easy;
text/skype him this;
"I hate Ant and he was so wrong to say that, all F1 drivers are so arrogant"
Then he'll answer you!
Christ. Don't even tell me anything more about that. I don't want to know
*puts fingers in ears*
True story
Right, quick break, then will get my blogging fingers ready.
Cuteness!
At the airport. Ferrari team trying to scrape together enough cents to buy sweets. Offered them 50c but they just had enough ;-)
http://twitter.com/VirginRacing/statuses/16175000921
d'aawww. I bet felipe is going through the pick and mix right now.
I expect GMM to have a story saying Ferrari have financial problems ;)
I really want my holiday now :( :(
Ya know, I've always thought of the Elise as a cool little car. But it didn't have enough, shall we say... *OOMPH*, not enough "get up and go", as it were.
Someone agreed with me, it looks like:
http://www.hennesseyperformance.com/venomgt.html
You know who's going to be driving that thing sideways don't you???
Anybody who buys one, probably :)
But I'm guessing a certain Mr. Clarkson (and/or the Stig)
There is an iPhone app which if you shake the phone it makes a vuvuzela noise
I have it...
There's also an app for me kicking someone in the private bits if they use that next to me.
Steven am I allowed to go on holiday now? :(
No
Why ask?
I need a holiday. Work is stupid. I have a rubbish course tomorrow in Manchester. It's all a bit of a pest.... I just want to go on holiday.
You only just started this job, you can't need a holida
Sounds more like you want to throw a pre-holiday sicky
I'm KNACKERED! I forgot how much standing up I'd have to do. Stupid cushy desk job....
Hehe tempting... I'm a very reliable employee though. I have a reputation to uphold :P
virgin attempt ferrari buyout, launch hostile takeover talks overseas
Lukeh - have you seen this?!
http://www.criteriongames.com/NFS/index.php
How awesome is that gonna be! Plus is comes out around my birthday! :D
Question - how come Joe gets to use this image in his blog post? http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/05/31/the-real-fking-disaster/
Yeah, watching the EA conference now. I may have eeked when they unveiled that huge surprise. Hot pursuit was an amazing game :)
wasn't it in the comments?
but i don't know.
You know what I eeked at? BUGATTI VEYRON POLICE CAR! HOLY ****!
hehehe. Criterion Games as well, just what they need for a NfS game.
It was in the comments. I want to use it in a post because picapp doesn't have anything but I don't know if I should...
EA are currently talking about The Sims.
I wouldn't use it, but you could always link to it
Judging how awesome both the Burnout series and the original Hot Pursuit was, this could just be an upset for best racing game of the year!
If not that, then I reckon this could quite possibly be the best NFS in the entire series so far.
yeah, tricky. bernie would argue he has copyright, but the image has been changed for illustrative / editorial purposes. not sure.
Best not bother.
Can't argue with that
i love this: http://everytimezone.com/
How often could we have used that? Another simple idea that is really useful.
I think we need to say a big well done to Alianora and other peoples who stayed up the whole 24 hours. You people are crazy. {Original entry}
You're welcome. To be honest, I thought it was more routine among Le Mans watchers than it turned out to be. I just felt that if I wanted the proper experience of Le Mans from my computer, I should try to watch as much as possible. If you'd asked me before about 4am if I'd manage the whole thing, I would have been somewhat doubtful.
As for me being crazy... ...I've used to hearing that, so I'll take it as the somewhat-disbelieving-compliment that I think you intended ;)
so, so many times.
hey everyone,
back...
so useful at indycar time
:)
You never know what you are eating if you get invited to dinner in Coventry
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100614/tod-endangered-tiger-found-in-man-s-free-870a197.html
It is among many sportscar fans. @the_lap_times was up for as long as you were and I think people on the MWM Facebook page may have been (I havent been bothered to check..).
To be honest I'd have woken up earlier or stayed up longer had the race been as entertaining as previous editions had been.
Night guys :)
you can buy a tiger on ebay?
I'm blogging my thoughts of the weekend right now..
Game can wait :)
night
Who would eat anything they bought on ebay?? :S
Apparently. Wonder if they do pandas?
I wonder if its a good meal?
Night Gavin
Night

I have the whole weeks Le Mans coverage on my mp3 player to listen to at work. It's going to be a good week :D {Comment #9}
I still haven't finished re-listening to the Spa LMS race yet and that was only 6 hours (I got as far as the power cut when 24H stuff intervened)...

You mean to tell me other runnings have been more exciting? Wow...
2008, was just amazing. first one we saw though, didn't fully appreciate i guess.
I have to go as I need to be up at 5 to get ready for a 1 day training course in Coventry. Probably gonna be a long day, so I shall leave you guys to it. Night!
Watch out for any dinners. Night scott.
night scott
Keep an eye out for those tigers, night.
What's this about dinners and tigers? :P
http://sidepodcast.com/2010/06/14/daily-14th-june-2010/comments/#comment-811842
Definitely. I found a lot wrong with this one tbh. :)
GT2 was exciting, the rest left me a bit flat. In previous years we've seen strategy battles between Audi and Peugeot and I don't think we really saw that, not while I was up anyway.
night

They're taking it commendably well :)
2008 was one of the best I've seen.

That'll probably be why I'm wondering what the fuss was about. I was mostly concentrated on the GT2...
Usually when I put up a post I get around 30-40 views.
Today, 20x that.
I was so disappointed when the Risi car had the gearbox issue, that fight was going to run and run!
soo cool!
I had that with muse fans last week after a post I did. The wordpress stats graph makes for amusing reading as I'm sure it will for you :)
It just looks like a vertical line. I love em for it.
Go Virgin Racing :D
now you just need timo to comment. I see on f1 badger that he gave a lift to @lookingspiffy whilst she was at the canadian gp on her way to Joe's evening
no way?!
very cool story
http://www.f1badger.com/2010/06/diary-of-an-f1-fan-hitching-a-ride-with-timo/
If Timo comments I may die. But that is way awesome, he is just totally brilliant.
Points for him next week I say, very kind of him :)
it's not loading :(
did he know who she was?
I dont think so.
I was due to attend Joe Saward’s Audience With in Old Montreal which, as it was past 7pm, had already started. We happened to be outside Virgin Racing’s motorhome just as Timo Glock, small suitcase in hand, was leaving the circuit…and Geoff asked him if he could give me a lift back to Montreal! The next thing I know, I’m bidding Geoff farewell, handing back my VIP pass and following Timo across the pontoon towards the drivers’ cars.
that's just the most brilliant thing.
have spent my evening watching mixed press conferences and football so now I should rest my frazzled mind. night everyone :)
Aye, night and I'll do the same, one more exam to go, hooray, see ya tomorrow sometime. lotsa love.
night lukeh and all who're sleeping.

ooh, likes the joystick.
its epic
It's the best race ever - even when your driver doesn't win...
I will respectfully disagree. :)
My driver didn't win either - this year or last. It was still a good race both times... {Comment #265}
Mine didn't and I thought it was mega, but it probably helped that I didn't seriously expect him to win and I know Christine did (with good reason).
Usually when I put up a post I get around 30-40 views.
Today, 20x that. {Comment #524}
Nice one!
I'm off, had a cool idea for something so I probably won't sleep. boo

Pat, you are not useless and feel free to send the rest of the stuff when you like :)
Will do, I need a bit of time but the next ALMS race is a couple of weeks away yet. :)
from joe:
...if Nick Heidfeld were driving Michael Schumacher’s car and producing the same kind of performances would not the media in Germany be clamouring for Nick to be replaced? {Comment #328}
Yes. I don't know if this is due to the desperation Joe is suggesting, a bad cluster of races (probably Michael's personal theory) or whether he still hasn't adjusted to the realities of how F1 driving has changed since he's left (my theory), but there is definitely something not right about the end result. Not bad enough for me to demand Michael's head... ...but not good enough for me to deny Nick the seat next year either.
Will do, I need a bit of time but the next ALMS race is a couple of weeks away yet. :) {Comment #551}
That's OK, it'll be worth waiting for ;)
I need a holiday. Work is stupid. I have a rubbish course tomorrow in Manchester. It's all a bit of a pest.... I just want to go on holiday. {Comment #477}
I'd offer to swap, but I've got exams tomorrow... ...er, later today and they ask for correct ID before they let anyone take the papers.
