Hey guys! I am writing this quite late after my friends have come over for dinner and I am watching the Man United game on delayed coverage – so I don’t have loads of links, but you should have enough to keep you going anyway ;)
So what’s been going on in the F1 world? Well, considering it’s the Tuesday after a Grand Prix, there isn’t too much news – so today we will have more blog links, which is more awesome anyway!
- Firstly Christine’s Driver and Team Rankings – which have a lot of cool links to stuff I was going to link to as well ;)
- Sidepodcast Wiki highlights for the past month… we have a great page relating to F1 music!
- Nick Heidfeld has written a lovely letter to Robert Kubica, which earned him loads of points this week…
- WTF1 has a few good links: A great Photoshop of Petrov flying, a funny advert involving Mark Webber & Kung Fu, and an F1 Autograph challenge.
- How about a review of the Malaysian Grand Prix, with added Crayola pictures?
- Team Lotus had a street demo in Malaysia – check it out!
- Leigh has a great F3 Season preview
- James Allen sums up the Malaysian Grand Prix interestingly: “I said yesterday that it’s a bit like going into a sweet shop and eating half the stock, when you’ve only been used to getting a packet of Polos at best. Many fans consider this to be artificial racing, F1 on steroids in other words and didn’t find it entertaining.”
- Speaking of tyres, Here’s a tour inside the Pirelli Motorsports factory
- The US Grand Prix had an announcement last night – apparently they are going to call it ‘the Circuit of the Americas’ or something. Here is an AUTOSPORT Plus article on the circuit’s progress…
- Alianora has an Engine and Gearbox Update
- Pat has posted his TMR Game scores – I had a fluke of a good week ;)
- Why is Fernando Alonso advertising kitchen worktops?
- For those who are worried about leaving Christine a voicemail for the Debriefs, you need to read this cartoon ;)
- Sidepodspace time – here is a film created to celebrate the first 50 years of space flight…
- Here’s an interesting interview with the inventor of the digital camera
- Extralife ponders what would have happened had we had Twitter through the ages of time?
- Here is an amusing instruction guide to using the Nintendo 3DS
- Finally here’s an amusing symphony made with an orchestra of musicians playing with VB Bitter bottles :D
So that’s all from me – I hope you have a great Wednesday…. my colleague has convinced me to go running during the middle of the day tomorrow, so wish me luck and I will let you know how it goes ;)
Hej med ny daglig posten!
i love that petrov flying piccy! hehe.
went looking for the crayola pictures and read this headline:
New USF1 facility to be called "Circuit of the Americas"
i frickin hope somebody missed a space in that title!
Did we know that Adam Hay-Nicholls F1 page in Metro is called F1 Debrief?
I think he must listen to the show as it took him until Tuesday to write up the race report
Windsor 2: This time, it's toasted on both sides
didn't used to be. we can't own that title though, just like leo can't own 'this week in...'.
Yeah, that is so cool. :)
haha
Yeah, I get that. Just never realised before, probably cos I never read the Metro anymore
Maybe you need to call it the Debreaf then
or fried? :)
Really not liking the F1 Video edit page now.
Not viewable in Safari, way too jerky in FF4 and no full screen mode :(
Yes - it's been called that a while, and it's always on the Tuesday (presumably due to space issues on Mondays).
Or the final, final race classification
Yup!
This isn't a Peter Windsor operation. If it was, they would of laid a quarter of a mile strip of track, film a promo on it, then discover that it wasn't up to FIA regulation, and THEN realized that they only had enough to lay down another ten feet of asphalt.
#StillBitter
And then texted all the pavement layers that he's all done. #class
I watched the Austin live stream and there was no picture of Jimmy Clark so no WIndsor
I didn't see Carlos Reutemann with a suitcase full of Argentine pesos either. If I've learned anything, it isn't a legitimate U.S. effort unless some other country's money is involved.
Sorry, it is still a really, really sore spot for me. It's one of the reasons why I stopped blogging and haven't been as active as I used to.
One of these days I need to write the "Formula One in the United States has been cursed since the beginning" essay.
You should talk to Anthony, too. We met him in Boston and he comments here sometimes.
#affinity
(although i blog less cause i'm rubbish at it, but if i can blame windsor for that too, i shall)
Have you seen these recent posts on sidepodcast.com?
- Daily: 13th April 2011
- Great video turns heads in the Team Rankings this week
- Nick Heidfeld makes a big jump in this week's Christine's Rankings
- Daily: 12th April 2011
- Tweets of the Week - You get what you deserve
fun site tweeted by sarah lane: http://yes.thatcan.be/my/next/tweet/
The result made no sense for me:
"I saw about the FIA... I am glad, even Black Lace failed! It could they seem to start of them is that!"
factbyte factbox's next tweet should be:
Kobayashi are now 1-2, back in 23rd. Image: Green flag Yellow flags shown for qualifying and Red Bull .
Evidently live timing just crashed...
@sidepodbuzz beats that:
Planes, Trains, Automobiles and gold Daily: 12th March 2011 A Grand Prix screwed up a new car Schumacher.
Mine 'next tweet' according to that site is...
I've never seen a dishrag. I love pit stops. Yes!
"Evidently there's a post about random transportation methods, today's daily and Michael having a broken car to contend with for next race."
The next tweet for me is one that is coherant but hopefully untrue:
"I didn't help but it's understandable."
That's perfect.
brilliant!
oooh.
If you keep hitting "get your next tweet", you keep getting different tweets. The third semi-coherant one for me was:
"You're welcome. When I can talk about Paul in turn. Point well taken! ..."
And finally I got the very simple:
"?"
worryingly for @sidepodcast:
Hehe, not visited before. hehe, not visited before. hehe, not visited before.
oookay.
Who let the newbie hack into the account?
That seems like it should come with a ventriloquist dummy that talks on its own.
mind just said "Please like me!" :D
optimistic @mrschristine:
Reading: F1 Big Pictures of Grief: Loving that this week. Drivers here: and Teams here: Fun, fun, fun!
heheheheheeeeee
We do like you :D
haha
done. What's next?
I guess his gearbox is one day. Twitter says was I did think reading their pitch is to bankrupt a spark.
Weird
Clubforce apparently talks about stewards a lot:
"It will be the office for a post-race FIA decision to find the session 1 hour's time."
A lot of the "next tweet" suggestions are strange. Just keep clicking until one looks vaguely sentence-like.
I will FLY! The nerves never fail from Goldmember, who wears Gold like a flux capacitor? HRT front door.
Woah.
Like a 'flux capacitor'??
Clearly Colin Kolles needs to stock up on his spy parody DVD collection...
kinda like you've been drinking again :)
Here's another one for me.
Happy Friday, Thievery fans. << Thanks, Lukeh! : Douglas Adams has anyone else in nice HD when?
hehe
WOW!! Petrov flew and watch the city centre, sales trainee position! Time for a Rubens hat if any this!
It's alwayg time for a Rubens hat.
you're welcome, i think :)
Love it
hehe
Thanks, Lukeh!!
I guess I say that a lot?
One last suggestion for my next tweet:
"?"
You should use this thing for your next Paul DiResta thingamabobber.
Personal: Malaysian GP tomorrow, found pancakes my personal blog post about the Google homepage.
TMR: I'm at that conversation between the first part of plan, video on his own Not how that worked at all, not.
Had an email reply. Answer is soon. #embargo.
Yep it again Maybe EJ into the cooldown lap Oh no streaming link that they are applauding the usual guys.
My latest one
It was useless. Have you happy about motor racing but gave away 20% of pain It seems that is so full of?
what?
Trulli in Malaysia I was normally a browser I want Kanaan 6th, Castroneves 7th, Kobayashi 8th, De!
it's like we all got drunk and carried on commenting :)
The nerves never seen this weather anyways. Work could be 1. Petrov, 2. Barrichello, 3. Liuzzi, 4.
You heard it here first, that will be the Chinese gp result :)
Must sleep now anyways, night all!
The front of Texas' Circuit of the spambot followers : I'm in. I was on the spambot followers : The first!
Thanks, Lukeh!!
hehe
Good night. :)
@Steven Roy or anyone.
I need your sagely advice. I've come up with an outline of an a "US is cursed in Formula One" essay. Am I missing anything?
- Hill wins a world title under the dark cloud of Wolfgang Von Tripps death.
- Dan Gurney can't keep his car together to led a serious charge in 1967.
- Cevert dies and Wakins Glen becomes to dangerous to race.
- Mark Donohue's death kills Penske's interest in Formula One.
- Michael Andretti wins a title under the dark cloud of Ronnie Peterson's death.
- Bernie and Chris Pook argue over money and ruin the Long Beach race.
- Dallas, Detroit, Las Vegas are all half effort grands prix with surfaces that fall apart.
- Danny Sullivan and Michael Andretti don't live up their potential like they did in CART.
- Phoenix is chosen over Laguna Seca to host the USGP in 1986.
- Indy 2003 & 2005.
- USF1.
Did I miss anything?
hehe
The trawling should be fun for Alex in the morning.
Scott No Speed
Back on facebook Me=Lotus +1 for years haha cant believe I have to unfollow me sounds good kiwis!
this is fun :D
Explains a lot
bye
This isn't me..
Can you go. Look for getting celebrities to know. This for me instead. Ta.
Isn't that Mario?
+1 to Pat W.'s Scott No Speed
I have a feeling that was Mario. Michael's F1 career was slightly less successful
:D
Goodnight!
Must sleep, bit of Discovery within 30 minutes live here in front of races but it's a regional speciality.
Your right. Sorry Mario... you will always be way more talented than your son.
oooh, can we guess? what an awesome game.
I guess you could add going from two races a season in a twelve race season to none out of 20
Came from my personal account but doesn't seem like me
I was going to stop but...
Now to normal level. Dark chocolate Kitkats are very nice. Congrats : Mine isn't put together by me. Yep!
Some of these are making me laugh out loud.
ooh i could go for a kitkat.
- The Bog putting paid to Watkins Glen
- Michael Andretti turns out not to be his father
- The attempted "dead heat" of 2002
- Juan Pablo Montoya's F1-career-ending 8-car shunt in 2006
- Bernie trying to take too much money (that may be a book on its own)
- The Cypher Group not making it into F1 in 2010 (submitted an entry but not deemed good enough)
I found a caramel version! Very nice.
Ralf and the tyre probs at Indy - 6 car race
tweet about it, put it in the mix for next tweet. :)
I am not sure about Scott Speed. Is it really bad luck if the driver really isn't good enough talent wise? With Michael Andretti and Danny Sullivan, I always felt that they were good enough but didn't take it seriously and squandered an opportunity. To me at least, they gave American drivers a bad wrap with F1 teams that they really haven't recover from.
did they submit an entry? I thought they decided not to 'cause of no money.
Think of 's first line was a camera being told him £10 in Christine's Rankings wins by but tune in?
was that one of the big ones? I like those.
There are kit kats in the vending machine next to me but I have zero cash.
I thought they had, but either way, it belongs in the blog.
Might have to blog about KitKat varieties.
oh yeah!
I'm amazed he ever fit in an F1 car.
No just the two-finger, they only seem to do 4s in the classic style..
Congrats : I'm sure I ought to help but not working, mustn't leave food so I'll use that before.
I agree Speed was different. Sullivan didn't get the same kind of chance as Michael
By the way I've been listening to various Absolute stations since the USGP presser finished, you've convinced me.
That wasn't a thing that was me saying something badly
More his attitude than his talent level. He thought he owned the place.
w00t!
hehehe
Not clever when your team boss also appeared to think he owned the place when he didn't.
I get that sometimes drivers have to think like that, but normally they've proven themselves a bit first. And plenty of other US drivers aren't like that at all so it isn't an anti-American comment..
The only one I'm not convinced about is the main station but that's only because there's talking and DJs trying too hard to be funny when they should just play the damn records. :)
also true.
maybe something about Nascar sucking up all/most of the home grown talent, and/or the indycar / cart thing destroying open wheel racing in the states.
I used a lot of /'s in that sentence.
That site is addictive
Finally realises that moron Stuart is an insane Baggs just generating media content.
Stuart Baggs was an Apprentice contestant who was a moron and generated a lot of medai
and you used them well.
ok:
Just finished a wall staring at today. Tune in Sebring!! Right, I've got the car and work for BBC world?
Lots of 'moron's there, Steven.
...may have to music in my hair when you can't get her prize. Pls correct the violence in Libya.
It almost makes sense.

The Spaniard's race is very real desire to react immediately Montezemolo: I have begun now.
Scary Ferrari
"I have begun now"... dun dun DUN.
At least the Grammys now. At least the lamest, dumbest Oscar show ever. Turning it just got an Alonso?
I have to stop with this thing.
i love it, must stop.
I saw this this morning and tweeted it, asking if this pilot pulled an Alonso.
http://gulfnews.com/news/world/usa/super-jumbo-jet-clips-another-plane-at-jfk-airport-1.790841

Sarah Lane has a lot to answer for
Refreshing honesty:
Webber he changed the team. Both drivers are both far away from Button's attacks very exciting morning!
You might as well keep going because I've just banned you all from leaving.
You can do that?
well that embargo should be lifting soon and theres no point in that if theres no one in the comments :D
awesome.
hurry up I should be in bed by now :)
Oh, ok.
*Back to the 'next tweet' website
Can't wait till it is talkaboutable

This is his site
http://www.popoffvalve.com/
and if the "local yellow" one was an adult T-shirt, I'd get that one, too.
great idea for a baby but i'm not sure it would work on an adult..
Drink enough beer, and it'll work ;)
I don't know why, I just think it'd be pretty darn funny.
But then again I'm kinda twisted.
Not sure how to make sense of this
The ISS won't be retributed.
In other words, no revenge will be taken on behalf of the International Space Station...
HAL isn't involved, is he?
Just Sarah Lane
I don't know who that is.
*flew over my head
so, SAL is involved, eh?
Nice.
She is a podcaster who linked to the site that is generating all these weird tweets
ah, thanks. I'll try to keep up with all you guys.
This one is a real tweet I sent to Nick I think
Phone Alison.
thanks
*wonders how many got it* :)
There had to be a real one come out of there eventually...
I need to catch up on sleep, folks. I'd love to stay and play some more, but I'll have more time later on in the week.
Wait, I'm having a great feeling about Amy's future....good things are coming her way... *psychic*
G'night.
I just poured boiling water on my fingers, that wasn't a good thing.

Congratulations, Amy. That is awesome. Well done.
Can't wait
Air Asia would like you all to go and congratulate me on the post they put on their page :)
Can I Twitter this, then?
yep, embargo lifted :)
sooo chuffed. can you tell us any more?
:)
Ok, good night for real, unless you're going to announce you're going to the space station or something, Steven.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!
Link
Funny you should say that
Good night

not really, they emailed me to tell me I'd won, and not to tell anyone, but to tell all the forums and websites that helped me once it was announced. So they knew about you guys :) They said I made excellent use of contacts. So I may not have had the most likes but I still exposed the company and competition to many people :)
oh actually they asked me to let you all know I'll be AirAsia's reporter at the Grand Prix. That AirAsia bit is important :)
so not spark thingy?
Well, you did make excellent use of contacts, with the result that loads of people will end up reading your words come Korea :)
And yes, the company tends to be important in these cases.
you certainly did that and you really are the most uberest of uber fans out there.
I don't think so, they had an Uberfan in Malaysia and he had nowhere near as much access as GPD did.
GPD was invited by Spark? I see.
got ya.
i feel slightly starstruck by your fame now. i can't believe i'm talking to a real uberfan :)
i shall open a beer and raise a glass to you now.
might as well have one for me while you're at it :)
♡
*hugs*
i don't have one now, but we'll toast to your success at the top of Mandalay Bay tonight. ;)
GPD was just invited by Lotus overall, I definitely think he'll have the best Spark experience of the year, I don't see the rest of them going out for dinner with the team and stuff :)
but he missed out on a flight with branson (which was promised), so unless he goes on the rearranged flight, he's still a bit worse off.
Until it's all confirmed its a trip for two Pamela is telling herself she's not going to Korea just in case she gets disappointed :D
It's definitely a trip for two!
Poor Pamela
Wow! Lotus Uber (Stalker) Fan Amy pulled it off! She's heading to Korea!
"AirAsia Australia
There are fans….then there are Uberfans!
Introducing Amy Fulton, our newest Uberfan who has won the ultimate Korean GP experience! "
Unbelieveable !!!!!
Two races in a season, Steven and Dan, In 1982, America had three races - The U.S. Grand Prix West at Long Beach, The Detroit Grand Prix in Detroit and the Caesar's Palace Grand Prix in Los Vegas in a 16 race season. When you factor in the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, that's one forth of the F1 season in North America....
As for curses, well, 1982 was F1's most cursed year. Caesar's Palace was in a parking lot of a casino so that seems unimpressive of the get go. Not too sure where in Detroit the F1 was run back then but it was not the nice part of Detroit, that's for sure. And Long Beach was just to last another year.
congratulations !
as I said before, people here tend to win things :-)
Yes. As if motorsports in the USA didn't already have enough of a country & western association in the minds of its general public, Formula 1 has booked its return in ... Texas. Yee-haw.
it seems like just yesterday I came up with the plan to see a man about a dog to try and win the competition. I can't believe it actually happened. Waiting 2 hours for them to open the fanzone seems so worth it
Awww! :)
i've drunk beer for amy, i've learned about the new final cut, now i shall sleep.
thanks for all your recruiting :)
night Mr C :)
always a fantastic linkage from RubberGoat. Love it! :-)
Alonso is advertising for kitchen stuff 'cause he likes cooking. And it's much better than the Head&Shoulders shenanigans from Vettel, Jens and Verdasco. He loooks lovely in therre doesn't he? So stylish. :-) I know, it's just me. heheh
beer's too expensive, so we drank frozen cocktails. cheers, amy! :)
Mooorning :)
Good AirAsia Morning to you too :)
Chicken or fish?
Air Asia: now everyone can fly

I'm very happy I won too!
Hehehehe yaaaaaay!!
And so am I.
This message was brought to you in association with AirAsia.
:D
:D :D
I am going to a Korean BBQ restaurant tomorrow to celebrate :D
In case you didn't see it: http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/blog/from_the_marbles/post/Austin-F1-track-named-Circuit-of-the-Americas?urn=nascar-wp554
The Austin circuit is officially named Circuit of the Americas. Not a bad name, if I may say so myself.
it is in the daily :-)
But this is free! ;) (It's a good excuse. :D )
We'll be seeing a lot of this all year, eh? :D
Their emails made it rather clear they want plugging. Plugging we can do :D
very strange name me thinks ... they are US, in Texas. this sounds to me as ridiculous as World Series in US baseball league ...
Hey, they're in the Americas. Works for me. :D Sounds much better than the Texas Auto Circuit. ;) Or worse, the McDonald's Speedway.
when you are now so close to them, can you ask them do something about the food quality on their planes :-) ?
:D
they may be in Americas but for most people in Texas the world ends at Texas border :-)
I think a more pressing matter was the lack of paper in the bathrooms on our flights both ways from/to KL!
that is scary, given the point I made :-)
I wouldn't say most. They have a lot of Hispanics. :)
Do you not always take tissues with you? How can I look like the obsessively organised one here? :P
OK, may be not most, but that is the impression I took back from my 2 visits to the Lone Star State :-)
I don't take anything. Pamela had EVERYTHING so we were right.
Tissues are always useful!! And a pen!! :D
I took the Marriott pen so I was prepared on the way back :D
Boooo!! Marriott!! Steal everything you can :P
I only took the pen. I should have taken more in retaliation for the turn down service not having chocolate, instead they left some sort of odd candy that had the texture of cardboard that I didn't eat.
Hmmmm I really don't like them. I stayed in one in London once and had a really horrible time of it. Really snooty.
Aw, the one in Malaysia was fine. I am really looking forward to the Pan Pacific in Singapore - I'm even going to use the pool this time around!
Morning!
OMG! This is what I got!
WELL DONE AMY!
Everyone who I got to vote for you here is really happy too!
Pan Pacific - stayed there on my first (non F1) trip to Singapore. got upgraded to suite for no reason :-)
tell them thankyou on my behalf :)
They are most welcome - Mrs. Goat says congrats and what a great birthday present it must be!
Next one!
The worrying thing is that these supposed random mashings of my tweets seem to make more sense than my normal ones!
Whooo! Congratulations! :)
Victory!
Sponsored Comments :)
I hope this tweet isnt in any way related to this one!
I got...
um?
Keep going, occasionally it comes up with a really good one!
I tried, but could not make anything out of the nonsense it generated :-)
Same, it seem to be a random scramble of words i have tweeted in the last month or 2 which got worse everytime i clicked
You won?!
Woops. That was directed at Amy
hm, I did not expect the Branson flight to be priced in regular Air Asia prices but definitely did not see GBP4,500 price tag ... but well, if the money is for good cause why not. all I know is I will not be on that plane :-)
Oh I see "other girl" did not send congrats to Amy.
:D
Excellent, looking forward to explore KL traffic jam, approximately a Buemi like me!
Buemi like me indeed.
I'm so glad airasia took into account your working the other forums. I was hing they would.
Uber!
And by hing, I mean hoping
I may or may not have broken the news here before I was allowed to and then had to get comments deleted :D
I wonder if "other girl" will ever comment here again?
Not quite the google bot Bassano suspected, she did comment once
oooh and Paul, while youre here, Pamela wants to know if you're doing the daily on Saturday
oh wait no its actually my turn! But we need one of you boys to do the one after that :)
Ahhhhhh.
I could. Possibly.
Should I?
We could gloat, i love a good gloat :)
I would get into trouble with alison though...
#MustActLikeAGrownUp
I have so much Heikki news I couldn't possibly wait another week, plus it'd throw out my four week cycle :D
Oh dear. That's Easter weekend. I will be nowhere for a few days :-(
I got very suspicious about the cover up! had to pry it out of alison!
when you quoted it i was like NO DONT DRAW ATTENTION TO IT, IT NEVER HAPPENED :D
I had no idea thats what it was about!
Will you have to give a press conference now you have won? :)
heheheh, no
Guest post about winning things by crowd sourcing will suffice
guest post is on its way but i'm about to go out for dinner so it will be finished when i get home :)
although it wasn't just the crowd sourcing, that only put me in third. It was cardboard Heikki what did it ;)
boo! No TodayTonight Appearance?
Im tempted to complain to tony that air asia dont fly here... grr
morning everyone
It may have been the real heikki !
he was not part of what the competition was technically judged on according to the T&Cs. Whether thats what it actually was judged on, who knows :D
Oh and there was that other win at the GP........
I really don't think that would have come into it, if anything that'd make them go "well shes already seen our garage, lets give it to someone else"
he asked me to send a photo to go along with the announcement so i sent one from malaysia. then he asked me to send one from melbourne in case it enrages the other contestants that someone who is already a globe trotting gp fan won. Even though if they read the comments on my picture they'd already know I was in Malaysia :)
Hooray!
Congrats Amy - I hope you get yourself a decent hotel
:)
Morning all.
I got:
Hush now defunct certainly charged for what? Bernie walking into motorhome.
Have you found the Arrack?
Any Rallying going on? Whats News?
Hahahaha
Im sure she will find one she loves
:)
Morning Stuart
So, does anyone know if this Rally Jordan is happening in its entirety?
Heh. Not yet. I was making my way through some Amstell when I was called upon to write a story for the site, updating the travel situation. First time in about three years I've worked after midnight!
Anyway, the boat has docked. I'm just going to chase up the WRC ops manager to find out how they're going to change the schedule, because obviously they now have less than 24 hours to set up something that usually takes four days...
Ouch.....
They'll probably have to cancel a few stages.
Right, so it looks like I'm going to have to do some work. Audi-os...
Shame - wonder if they have the go ahead to cut it down to a two day event?
see ya stuart
Sounds like it could be a fun day! Cheers for the update :)
Hey guys, just come back from my first run of the year! http://bit.ly/heBqUO
I ran with a buddy and it was tough, but I feel good now ;)
Hehehehehe
Hey Gav,
Great daily - hope the run was fun
Thanks man - yeah it was cool, but weird to do that during the day...
:)
Morning guys, loving the linkified daily Mr Gavin :)
Aye - I went cycling around Victoria park on Sunday morning before the GP. Odd, but nice - quiet and barren at 6am
It's a lot more than I expected TBH - I fell asleep halfway through writing it as well!
Bahrain are still talking about resheduling there gp this year.
I cant imagine a race being run there for the next few years,
context: http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/meast/04/11/bahrain.detain/index.html
yaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!! am so so so happy for you Amy. That must have been such a nice birthday present too :)
An attempt to display a semblance of unity?
Just seen that now, absolutely awesome news to wake up too Congrats Amy!! As lou says, brilliant timing :)
well, it is not about what we can imagine but what Bernie and Co. can imagine ...
Oh dear... Kept that hushed up eh.
I still can't believe they're treating the race as 'postponed' and haven't made a decision yet. Utter madness!
Morning all.
hiya mrs C, how are you this morning?
A happy AirAsia day to you Christine :)
morning christine
what goes on?
:)
Marvellous. Lots and lots of blogging planned for today. Expect the pinger to be ringing off the hook. Or something like that.
Uber
Ha. Are you going to keep that up till Korea? :)
I probably AirAsia won't but I might try today ;)
Sebastien Buemi has chosen the classic races for the BBC, some very good choices too :)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson/2011/04/classic_f1_2011_-_sebastian_bu.html
best of luck with that
:)
Sebastien Bu.
:D
Two tenths too fast, buuuuu.
Actually seems like they might have spelt his name wrong originally. Those URLs do like to tell tales, tricksy things.
Japan '89 is still one of my favourite races of all time in any formula - just magic
the highlights package for that on there is a full hour as well!
Loving the crayola representations of Malaysia, I demand them for every race!
Hah so they did!
They did one for melbourne, just the one picture, but it is quite good!
http://jalopnik.com/#!5786490/the-2011-australian-grand-prix-in-crayola
First ping of the day: http://mrschristine.com/2011/04/13/these-tweets-make-about-as-much-sense-as-mine-anyway/
Now I know what I am watching tonight!
I am home from dinner, time to AirAsia blog :D
You inspired me to try again and it worked!
Speaking of cool twitter things, i have stumbled across this. http://www.twitshift.com/
It lets you follow yourself a year in the past. Freaky!
Excellent! I am going out for a run, I expect it in my inbox when I get back :)
ooh very cool
I hope you're going for a really really really long run #watchingtelly
ASH CLOUD!!!
I can't believe that was already a year ago!
It must have been because Nick was over when the national was on last year and that was this weekend.
and I remember it was China all the F1 folk got stuck in and most of them were like 'why China, of all the countries we go to!'
I was already thinking how flipping scary it was that that's a whole year ago though... Crazy stuff.
I recalled during the Malaysian GP that one year previously I was in the UK and it was Easter Sunday - and my family stormed out when Alonso wasn't winning ;)
How much have we all done in a year? I hadn't even moved house yet!!!
This past year I've done loads. I would like to think the next one's going to be calmer but sadly not....
Rightio my head's hurting with work. I'm going to tidy my house to some Absolute Radio #thankschristine
since this time last year I've been to 5 races!
I moved house, got promoted, went on holiday to a place I had never heard of 3 years ago, bought a car...
Amazing. That's really awesome and it's so cool that they are all so different too!
Apart from the odd bloggeroo, my life stalled a bit - a bit like Eddie Irvine in the pits during Monaco '96
No wonder my bank account is in the state its in :D
Odd that I can just recall a random GP moment like that though...
It's ok though, just means you are regrouping before the next phase...
That was so exciting, watching everyone try to get home from the four corners of the world (probably less fun for those in far-flung parts).
I've moved into then back out of my parents' house :P, changed job, started studying again, been to Australia, got a place at university
I liked how half the grid ended up in the economy section of the same plane...
I'm going from Ferrari to Jag F1 - ouch!!
;)
Had a job, enjoyed the job, finished the job, accumalated more certificates and did the whole Duke of Edinburgh group experience...
Yeah but you are doing the F3 thing, so that's cool!
#stevenroy
True- speaking of which, part 2 of the preview will be up at lunch
:)
good preview pt.1 BTW!
Cheers, although I do still find the race 2 reverse grid a bit convoluted... When it was introduced last year, my first thought was "what the..."
I'm on a real high after my run earlier!
I really want to go running but I did something to the muscle behind my right knee in Malaysia so I'm giving it a few days to stop being hurty :)
Back on regular cycling now
:)
I want to go swimming, but its a little cloudy
Shocking excuse!
...but a godd'un
;)
Cloudy? If we stopped doing things in Denmark when it gets cloudy, we'd never get anything done at all!
It must be about 30 degrees. A swim would be refreshing!
Afternoon all.
Just had a very convivial lunch in the sun on the terrace of Rally HQ. Been having a few internet glitches because obviously most of the necessary equipment is still en route to the Jordanian border.
That is going to be one hell of a job when it arrives. Any vague idea what's missing still?
Literally everything apart from the works Ford and Citroen cars, which arrived separately by air (but which can't be prepped for action without the stuff on the trucks).
is there any special reason why the logistical arrangements are so last minute ?
They had to divert to Israel due to trouble in Syria, right?
I heard the boat broke then there was a storm so it couldnt dock?
Capital Letters Club say tomorrow is canceled, so sounds like extra tanning time :)
Oh dear
Interesting, The Victory team from here in Dubai are going to enter the WRC
http://sport360.com/component/content/article/94-all-news/86321-victory-set-for-wrc-bid
They are a powerboat racing team. They almost killed off Class 1 in the mid 90s by dominating it so much. Dont know how they have ended up on land
Yup. Original plan was to ship by sea through Suez Canal and land in southern Jordan. Then in January, when Egypt went a bit nuts, they decided not to risk Suez. They had to cancel the shipping arrangements and start again.
The alternative route was through Syria but then that went a bit nuts as well.
So this boat going from Trieste to Haifa became the only option. It was delayed on its inbound journey so it set off a day late, the suffered engine trouble in the Med.
it shows that it may be good idea to stay away from the region that is going nuts for a while ... and F1 still keeps the idea of Bahrain GP happening this year hanging in the air ...
They are jumping the gun a tad because the official decision hasn't actually been made yet.
Saying that, given the time constraints...
Here's the story we've been trying to post since before lunch!
http://www.wrc.com/news/wrc-trucks-hit-the-road/?fid=14506
I have this vision of Bernie watching the Odessa Steps sequence of Battleship Potemkin and thinking, "Oh, I'm sure it'll all calm down a bit by the end..."
Lovely ship, that Titanic...
Yeah I saw an ESPN F1 article where the sheikh says "everything has calmed down and life has returned to normal", then I see BBC and CNN talk about police beatings and protestors getting arrested. Madness.
haha!
probably thinking "Theres a good crowd here already, maybe we can sell them tickets"
not sure if this has been talked about, am living in a bubble this morning, but from manipe:
Drivers will get an extra set of primes on Friday in China, as they did in Australia. . While Lotus will have two test drivers in action for first practice - Valsecchi and Razia replacing Trulli and Kovalainen. #F1
Must take a lot to rattle that sheikh.
Anyho, must press nose to internet grindstone, so audi-os...
Interesting...
Have fun Stuart
I read they were running two test drivers but didn't click to the fact they'd need neither of their main drivers. #dumb
I find it a bit silly. on one hand it affects both Trulli and Kovi in the same way. But for a team that is trying to catch up with the back of the midfield and needs quality track time to extract the best out of the car and set it up for the race it does not make sense to sacrifice an entire practice session ...
First practice is just to shakedown the cars and rubber in the track though, right?
It's odd, but I just don't think Trulli will be there in 2012 - it leads me to think they've got three drivers that they are evaluating for a single seat
it is one and half hour of track time x 2 cars at the time when there is no other testing ...
I think Trulli will be replaced by Chandhok for the Indian GP
true.
Yay! I bet it was the proper use of the umlaut that impressed them :)
When the Chandhok rumours started last year, it was whispered that he might have two GP's, where he would replace each driver at least once (Korea and India)
definitely :)
I just realized the race is in Shanghai this weekend, I could still make it if I wanted. but Shanghai is in China ...
if Heikki isn't driving in Korea ooooh LOOK OUT
Oh my.
:D
he could be your personal GP guide for the weekend, would not that be something ?
What does Trulli bring to the team anyway?
that would be acceptable.
wine
wine
moaning, grumpiness and an odd bottle of wine from time to time
:D
hehe!
Still can't find the damn stuff and I even looked in an Italian Supermarket with a whole WALL OF WINE!!!
I bought 2 bottles back in 2006 at Hockenheim at the museum :-) good stuff I must say
Why thank you, I have indeed!
I have done some calculations in my head and I have realised that even if AirAsia flew me around the world so fast that time was reversed I won't be able to find enough time today to produce a proper daily today...
I am terribly sorry... Would anyone be willing to take it off my hands? I would be eternally grateful... And will do the washing up or make you a cup of tea or buy you a cake whichever you prefer :)
Could Amanda make Spanish Wednesday a Thursday post?
Now that would confuse Mr C!
Is this Tuesday now?
Rebecca Black has a helpful way of reminding people what the days of the week are!
Torygraph F1 webchat starting now: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/8447821/Formula-One-webchat-with-Tom-Cary.html
hehehehe
I got the marks back for those rrrubbish assignments I sent off and I'm pleased as I was expecting much worse. It's continuous assessment so every mark is better than none I guess. Under the circumstances I was aiming for half mark and I got 69% and 75$ :D
That should be 75% although all cash gifts are also kindly received :P
The Maths ones?
Yeah.
Well done. I always had such a struggle getting good marks in Maths tests.
One of the topics still doesn't "click" in my head at all. I'm also frustrated by one of my tutor's comments asking for more explanation as I go through as to what I'm doing.
No-one's ever had problems with my work write up before and it's annoying. If I wrote x + y = 2 on one line and 3x + 3y = 6 on the next I really don't see what needs explaining.
I suppose they have a very strict marking sheet and you were missing the link 3(x+y) = 3(2)?
I used to mark maths assignments and we were given a script with very specific instructions...
I would write:
x+y = 2 | *3
3x + 3y = 6
But I've been taught to be very thorough
I didn't lose marks on the bits he's commented against. It's made me really frustrated reading it. It's supposed to be uni level assignments and you want me to write a comment at the side explaining v v basic algebra.
oh man I would hate that.
I'm sure we can sort something out. For cake.
I will literally send a cake to whoever does it!
Maybe via AirAsia!
I found a whole black forest cake in my fridge. Black forest is my favourite!
Does anyone know why racecar engineering are using fun.ly as a URL shortener? It seems to give me annoying pop ups each time...
Ping -->
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/04/13/2011-british-formula-3-season-preview-part-2/
I've always had compliments on my neat and well set out work before. It just made me sad that he's moaning about the bit I think I'm best at!
May I see the assignment?
I guess so. Not today though. It's on paper. I'll scan one in when I'm at the library if you like.
Ah they tweeted me back saying that it's built into their website and that they are going to change it...
Another ping: http://mrschristine.com/2011/04/13/doctor-who-series-1-episode-13-the-parting-of-the-ways/
First series done. Woo!
I'm still watching telly :D
I decided not to bother asking :)
theres still hoooours before bedtime.
First series?
I've got an interview on Friday. The employment assistance centre seemed OK that I had to postpone my appointment with them to accommodate it...
You may need to get over that.
First new series.
I'm in cold sweats here
Bit of excitement for your day then.
Heikki has a new video
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150261794878712&oid=313144676011&comments
I like it because it has Finnish people saying Heikki a lot and I like the way they say it :D
actually thats dubbed and they're not Finnish people. Ah well.
oh how I wish I could search tweets by date. I may have become mildly obsessed with re-reading what F1 people were saying in Korea last year :D
I know this must shock you and I hope you are all sitting down ...
... but I think I might have enough of this year's winter.
I would like it to stop snowing now please and stop being so *** cold.
who are you and what have you done with Kathi?
Can you google there username then scroll back on the date graph?
For example @sidepodcast on the Wednesday before the race:

I blame Iceland. It made me into a warmshowerer (that works better in German)
ooooh I didn't know you could do that.
I have to head out but I thought I;d share with you an uber PING in the form of a brand spanking new blog/project
http://summerportrait.wordpress.com/
See you all later!
OOh, sounds brillo!
Its the only way i have found to properly search twitter.
The google realtime interface is really great. Ive taken to using it over tweetdeck to follow events/trends/hashtags
christine, ipad2's arrived in the office today. woot!
ipad2 <3
Ohhhhh, no fair! They waited till I was gone, I'm sure of it
Of course.

MUWUHAHAHAHAHAAA!
Ping: http://mrschristine.com/2011/04/13/potentially-an-appy-occasion/
Great idea man.
hehe!
I got mine yesterday! Fun! But no smart cover yet :(
magnets are fuuuuun. Which colour are you getting?
hehe, you should've head michael grade slamming the original show on 5live yesterday. so old it creaked, i think he said.
i'd steal you one, but it's engraved :(
They've thought this through!
Boo! You should ask AirAsia to fly you back there from Rockall!
I got the black leather... Because I'm a doof
we are doofs together :)
:)
my thought process for 90% of purchases goes like this:
Does it come in purple? If yes, buy. If no, buy the black one.
have you tried the hdmi thing yet?
well, he did try to cancel in '85
It's with the smart cover it left Germany yesterday...
he said he succeeded in canceling it.
it's pretty cool having icons on a huge screen. need!
It's something that's become a bit of a myth now - sad that he believes it himself. He had already left when his old department put the show on hiatus.
Grade definitely festered the ill feeling behind it, but he had definitely split by then.
Somebody was talking about how it was going to be useless for games because you need to look at the screen to make the adjustments... So yeah Angry Birds would make no sense... But for Racing Car games? No problemo!
I forgot to get the adaptor in the airport :( But I found out there is now an Apple store in the CBD so I might swing by and get one at lunchtime tomorrow in time for practice on Friday :)
I have found that if you walk into my local apple store with an iPad, the shopkeepers coo and fawn all over you...
What's all this about and who is Michael Grade?
I could never do that, they might accuse me of stealing it!
Interestingly, the Classic series was only meant to go on hiatus for a couple of years, but no one bothered to revive it because no one knew what to do with it until RTD came along.
Grade is the guy who for years wanted to cancel Doctor Who. He was the Head of Series and Serials for the BBC in the early '80's.
He spent several years beforehand stating publicly how much he hated Doctor Who.
There's this handy little tool... called Google or something :)
Yeah I looked it up and read on wikipedia. But really I am asking what you guys think about him and his treatment of classic doctor who, rather than some random person...
I've no time for Grade. ITV also degraded very badly under his tenure.
Ahh. Must have forgot to switch my mind-reader on again today :)
Guess he doesn't make the grade then ;)
Oh dear.......
It must have been turned off by the pinger :P
If I remember correctly, I think John Powell stopped the original Who in 1989. It was on the "Survival" DVD documentary.
he likes the new one, just thought the old one wasn't good enough, he said.
Aye - he was quite vocal about it, even during the Tom Baker era
sure... but f1 timing in HUGE text :)
Angry Birds might still work...
You could plug it into a projector.... :)
also true. anything with a hdmi input.
A lot of the iPhone games I feel like my finger gets in the way of the screen rather than controlling the game...
all iphone games for me. flights sims might be cool on the big screen too.
Try playing a motion control game on a train - adds to the difficulty ;)
Holy crap. Ever wonder what would have happened had you fallen down that gap in Super Mario Bros.?
http://www.myextralife.com/sitenews/what-happens-when-you-fall/
I have cranked up the 90s tunes and now the blog is finally flowing, at 12.01am. Going to pretend I haven't been home for 4 hours :)
That's okay. We don't know that you've been watching TV for the past couple of hours.
Anything good on TV?
I was watching the Melbourne Comedy Festival :)
Excellent :D
I also went and posted on the forum that my brother asked for likes on to say thankful because they were quite helpful and they all seemed to take an interest in whether I won or not which was nice.
<3 strangeres
that is not how you spell strangers.
or thank you. What is wrong with me
#points for Tabatha, she's twitpiccing a walk around the circuit...
I fear for this blog post :)
I'd blame the iPad but I'm typing on a real actual keyboard :D
Was just gonna say it doesn't bode well but I didn't want to dampen her enthusiasm...
the only squiggly lines in word are under Uberfan, Facebook and flamewar :D
That doesn't mean they are correct, just that you spelt them right!
she did that last year and probably got points for it. although she was at HRT then.
Ah :(
Must admit I didn't follow her when she was HRT.
Surely only drivers had points last year?
good point. i remember someone putting her walking pics into a blog post. f1 badger maybe?
You do remember weird things for someone who doesn't know what day it is.
Well, there's a chap on Countdown called Graham Hill - and he's winning
true story.
the page is broken now, but here ya go: http://badgergp.com/2010/11/yas-marina-calm-before-the-storm/
blog is done :) #spellcheck
Afternoon all. Definite sense that today is winding down. Rather looking forward to toodle-pip back to the hotel...
Hi Stuart
Has the cargo arrived yet?
By the way, I'm finally going to get to see Sunday's IndyCar / Indy Lights race's this evening.
[damn stupid busy-ness]
Heh. No.
Tomorrow will be fun I'm sure.
Afternoon* people
(time zones are messy things)
HI Mav
Waiting for official conf before firing two news stories into the ether. Funny how easy it is in this championship to just ring up one of the championship protagonists and ask them a direct question. I think I may have to lie down.
Amy ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/amy-wins-the-airasia-uber-fan-competition-korea-here-we-come
Careful - too much direct contact can cause nausea and headache's. I'm still a little surprised at how some unnameable F3 drivers prove to be difficult to get a hold of.
Can make things a pain sometimes.
Hi Leigh, all ready for the weekend? How is your Italian?
The only Italian words I know are "ciao" and "Roberto Baggio". Other than that, all the prep is done - just got pack my gear and make sure I don't forget any passes
say hi to Roberto Baggio if you see him
Will do. I really must brush up - I've a few choice words for Toto Schillaci if I see him. Still haven't forgiven him for knocking Ireland out of Italia '90
In the immortal words of the sportscar photographer John Brooks, "Be nice to me on the way up, sonny, because I'll still be here when you're on the way down..."
Official word ping:
http://www.wrc.com/news/jordan-rally-action-to-begin-on-friday/?fid=14509
Sound advice. Must admit, there were times when writing the BF3 preview was tough - I was surprised how difficult it is to write that a driver is **** without actually writing "this driver's ****"
Still going to be one hell of a cramped schedule
how's their CMS?
From my point of view (sitting next to the person who's operating it) their CMS looks fine.
heheh, best way :)
Admittedly, I watched the first 12 laps of the Lights race and had to switch it off. Between Josef Newgarden instigating a ridiculously dumb move while the commentators blamed a guy about seven cars back, despite having being shown 6 replays up close in HD.
Once a safety car was brought out for a car parked safely by the side of the road, I decided a break was necessary.
As much as I love Indy racing, their safety car procedures are at times, overly safe.
right, bedtime. Then it's Thursday! I am having Korean BBQ for dinner :D
night amy
See this is why I dislike CNN - the story itself is interesting, but why do we need to see a repeat of the same 5-second clip 20 times?
http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/04/11/new.york.plane.incident/index.html?hpt=Sbin
I've noticed Yahoo do the same, only Yahoo slow it down
Because we are obviously too stupid to view it at full speed? ;)
Another ping: http://mrschristine.com/2011/04/13/j-is-for-judges-lodgings/
Oooh, Backstreet Boys are doing another cruise. First one must have been a success.
How is it 5pm already?
Right folks, I had best run. Might be back later on.
:)
See you soon!
So has somebody decided that they want cake?
I was serious about the cake!
Can I have some cake please? :)
Can we have it and eat it?
:D
If somebody volunteers to do the daily and sends me their postal address I will send them cake and they can eat it. This will happen.
Will I have to fight with Wordpress to accept this offer or is the new improved posting system in place?
christine@sidepodcast.com works just as well.
Just write it in Live writer, copy the source code and paste it into the WP editor. Piece of cake.
Typing it's the easy bit. It was the whole interface and how none of the buttons seemed to act as labelled (or even consistently) that threw me.
Thank you - mission accepted :)
Thank you Christine and thank you Alianora.
Alianora if you can send me your address to alex@gamboling.co.uk then I will get the cake plan into operation :)
I'll do that after I've sent Christine the daily - that way I have a reward for which to aim :)
Sounds like a plan
Love it when a plan comes together.
Hello
Evening
Dinner Time. Curry, pappodoms, roti and a Bishop's Finger beer ;)
Ping-Ping (that sounds like a panda)
Preview – Chinese Grand Prix
Track Notes – Shanghai
And I don't think I ping'd Leigh's brilliant guest post
The Prince of Motorsport (Part 1)
Sounds awesome
That's a lot of pinging :)
Please reply and say yes.
@MarkBlundellF1
Would you like to see Johnny Herbert on twitter?? Send me a yes now and I will try and convince him, let me know...

He didn't take much convincing then :)
By the time I saw the tweet, responding to it and copied it here, he was on :)
Did we link to this yet?

Bad times. Number seven is the best though.
#sidepodspace
Happy birthday Dan Gurney!
I like that
Ooh, see also @MichaelAndretti
Love these ex-drivers getting on Twitter.
Indeed itr was ;)
a gigaping
That wasn't even set up, it was just pure coincedence it came out like that :)
Hehehe.
BOOO NASA
I have seen some of these but not all of them before. I can't believe they have not stopped work on landing pad 39B yet. When the last mission to Hubble was completed there was no more need to have a lifeboat shuttle on standby. If people get stuck on the ISS with a faulty shuttle its no big deal. So NASA started converting 39B for the Ares/Constellation program which was to succeed the shuttle but has since been cancelled so why not stop work converting that pad?
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/china-2011-race-information
Oooh no big deal being stuck in space?? What about all that bone cancer :P
No worries, they'll have found a cure by the time the shuttle replacement turns up
Shuttle astronauts spend ten days in space. Members of the permanent station crew spend 6 months there so having the shuttle astronauts stuck there for a couple of months while a rescue shuttle or a small fleet of Soyuzes, Soyuzii? are prepared is not a big deal
:D
Hehehe I think I'd want my money back if a 10 day trip turned into 4 months!!
Saw this article on BBC the other day and it has got me thinking: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13041326
What if the Soviets had gotten to the moon first? Would we be on Mars by now? Would the cold war have spread to the moon?
Just think of all the overtime building up while you have the perfect excuse for not being back at work
I'd want paying 24/7!!!

Unstoppable is very suitable for today's blogging charge :)
Hehe. I did warn everyone :)
Was much fun going through google reader to have lots of good stuff to read!
Still got lots to do but I reckon that might be enough for one day.
I don't follow the logic of his argument. America was in a race so it won then stopped. The Soviets thought they were colonising space......but they lost the race so they stopped? His logic is flawed.
I think had both of them landed on the moon within a couple of months of each other there would have been many more missions and rival moon bases as neither could have stopped without handing the moon to the enemy. It is a real shame that the Soviets did not carry on and put a man on the moon. Imagine even if they had done it around the time of Apollo 17. I can only believe that 18-20 would have been uncancelled in double quick time.
Once you have rival bases established they have to grow and compete with each other. THat is just human nature particularly in the cold war mentality. The moon then almost automatically becomes the base to launch Mars missions. Imagine instead of Apollo-Soyuz then shuttle-Mir dockings which laid the foundations for ISS if you had established communities on the moon it seems only logical that there would have been a joint mission fro the moon and that could only have gone to an asteroid or Mars.
Plus danger money, unsocial location allowance etc
If anyone wants a quick history of American spaceflight point your mouse at history then choose whichever series of missions interests you. You can learn all sorts there. I think that was where Christine discovered there were missions before Apollo

@RyanMcGeeESPN:
* Dear Pepsi Max: Love the new bottle, but I just got pulled over b/c the cop thought it was beer. http://twitpic.com/4kg0y6
* Awesome response RT @PepsiMAX hey! maximum pepsi taste comes with some risks! :) glad you love the new bottle!
If you get stuck, feel free to ask me via Sidepodcast or Twitter...
I was in high school in Indiana at the time. We Americans were realizing that the money for space exploration, and for the Vietnam war, wasn't growing on trees. As entertaining as the space race was, a lot of the U.S. public started to favor other spending priorities.
I think that was where Christine discovered there were missions before Apolloquote>You're joking, right? Mercury, Gemini, ... ;-)
Nope. One of my major complaints about motor racing is that it does nothing with its history and the same applies to space travel. I think most people Christine's age may have heard of Neil Armstrong and know nothing else about space travel. I have lost count of the people I have mentioned the ISS to and they think I a winding them up. Space travel has been ignored for the last 20 years other than the 2 shuttle disasters. Most people just don't get it at all. A few years ago I showed my mother the shuttle flying over through binoculars and she mentioned it to one of her friends. A couple of days later she got a phone call from another friend asking if it was true there was a station and that with binoculars you could see the men working outside it.
Space travel needs to be taught more than it is
I should say Christine knows all about Mercury and Gemini and is always enthusiastic about learning about space but no-one had ever told her about it before.
:)
Bearing in mind that I'm stoopid and don't know very much anyway, but before Sidepodspace, I knew about the film Apollo 13 although I had the facts very, very wrong. And I knew there were some shuttles that did some things.
That was about it.
what on earth did you think it was about?
Steven, Nick suggested I go on Pointless to raise money for the uni fund, you're up for it right? :D
Maybe Christine was watching Forrest Gump or Big. That Tom Hanks fella gets around.
What did you have wrong about Apollo 13? We probably discussed it but my memory ain't what it used to be
I am up for you going on Pointless
Not on earth.
I can't remember specifically, but I said to Mr C that I enjoyed the film and we were talking about it and I was merrily chatting away about bits and bobs blowing up and the Mission Control guy being the hero even though he didn't really do anything, and Mr C was looking at me blankly and said... "No, we need to watch that film again. Soon."
Mmm Forrest Gump.
Life is like a box of chocolates; you eat one and then you keep eating them and then you have none left., then you feel bad for eating the whole box but happy when you realise there's another layer of chocolate under the wrapper bit.
...I believe that's how it goes.
:D
The Mission Control guy I assume was Gene Krantz. He was a hero. He told everyone that there was no way those men were going to die and made them find solutions.
Maybe he needs to watch it again :)
:)
I'll go with that.
As we're talking films (a little bit) I saw this today:
http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/ephemera/hanging-up-is-one-way-of-sayin.html
Apparently, the way to say goodbye in films is to hang up.
I wonder how many of these films have been featured in Film Watch.
Hehe. No I was definitely wrong. I think I was confusing him with the guy that wasn't allowed up because of the non-existant illness.
That is a fair degree of confusion
Hehehe. :D
Today I saw Source Code in the cinema. There is no way I am even going to try explain that film.
any good?
Christine, I've e-mailed the daily to you. Hope it's not too long...
It is pretty good but I don't want to say much for obvious spoilers stuff, the ending is very annoying though.
We appear to be lacking a quiz tonight. But I am remembering to enter Pitmonster's game in the forum.
I have to keep reminding myself that when I speak of the names and events that were all around me in younger days, I might as well be talking about the Lincoln administration to those younger around me. No offense meant! :-)
Ooh, I count maybe five or six.
Back to the Future. Yay!
I would argue that saying Thank You is okay, cos you'd imagine the person on the other end might say bye to that. And also 'love you' seems a reasonably way of saying goodbye too.
I thought the same when I was watching it but I'm now going to be noticing it more in the films I see.
Thought you would like that one :).
Here's another Movie Montage - Nicholas Cage's hair...
http://www.myextralife.com/sitenews/the-evolution-of-nicolas-cages-hair/
I understand totally. I mentioned Barry Sheene racing Kenny Roberts to Gavin last night and he told me he wasn't born then. So unfair.
How do you think I feel? I only get to watch that in a highlights reel!
Hehe. I'm not good on history and events anyways.
if lou's around and feeling a bit better, i was curious what her flatmates thought of the new final cut pro (assuming a. they use it and b. they knew there was a new version out).
:D
was about to say i haven't seen mav comment in ages, but a quick check shows i missed him about 2 hours ago. doh.
I assume this the race. There is a part2 as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgWWuNoc1aE
I still have trouble seeing Jimmy Carter or Mario Andretti as "history," I still sense them as guys in the news 'some time ago!'
Nick has bullied me into telling my area manager I want to leave on Monday.
If it didn't haooen this year, it is history.
#shorttermmemory
Is he going to send you money instead of your wages?
*happen
Hah they won't fire me. I might need aid parcels instead of my overtime money though as I've gotten very used to it in my pay packet.
evening
Good evening!
Are you sure you won't come on pointless with me?
you-hoo! over here!
Evening all. Just phoned home via Skype. 20 mins! Would have cost a fortune in the "good" old days.
Good evening! Skype is indeed invaluable for international calls these days...
I'm talking to you in your own chatroom ya fool
It would be pointless
I have no problem with that, it's when they make comebacks that I get confused (yes, that includes you Schumi)
so you are!
Hi Mav and Stuart.
Somewhere exotic Stuart?
Skype is brilliant when it works
I'd be happy to go on Pointless with you :)
Calls to Dubai have been creeping up in price though. It's really not all that cheap anymore. I don't know why they're not eligible for subscription!
Jordan. The country, not (as far as I know) in vicinity of the pundit...
I dunno. It's like a less sophisticated version of Lanzarote
That was brilliant!
Can't they get Skype on the net there?
Yes although you need to use a proxy. It's illegal. The other issue is that Nick has this annoying habit of leaving the house :P
:D
I like the term "reappearance" better. "Comeback" seems to imply triumph. Niki Lauda definitely made a comeback, and twice. Schumi, well ...
Not sure that qualifies as exotic then
I can see why that would be annoying...
I am only halfway through part 2
And a beer costs the best part of a fiver.
:D
How do the expect journalists to cope with those prices?
Since I'm working corporate, like, I'm keeping the receipts and charging them back to the client. That or I claim them back on my own exes. Only trouble is that it would then only come off my corporation tax in Nov 2012.
Wait... are you in Denmark?
I can't believe by 1979 they had not cleared people from the apex of corners. Start at 5min 30 and look at the apex of Stowe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNX4MUtB8DQ&NR=1&feature=fvwp
the less sophisticated version of Lanzarote? :-)
You send bills to ex girlfriends for your beer?? :D
Gotta get that photo!
What event are you covering?
It's like Lanzarote but colder and with more drinking.
The Rally that never wants to start...
:D
The rally that's named as if Eddie invented it
What's that song? All my exes live in Texas?
Now see here! All the trucks are over the border now so all they have to do is, er, set the whole thing up in about 12 hours. Long night for everyone. Except me. I think I dodged a bullet there.
That's what happens when you put it between Iraq and a hard place.
*runs*
Fantastic
Unimproveable gag. I may use it tomorrow - provided I'm nowhere near the security guard with BO
Comment.of.the.year.
Also, hi people.
Love it :D
perhaps Austin will name a corner after that too
Trying to remember which comedian used it...
"And Maldonado spins at All My Exes"
In Denmark they have a witty riposte for those who are asked to do too much in too short a space of time - it involves a creative use of a broomstick to sweep the floor...
Right, I'm off to bed. Audi-os!
Night Stuart
see ya stuart
That is used here too
May have been a film or something
See ya, have fun in the dust tomorrow..
Hehe
He's gonna need a can of compressed air when he gets back to clean his gear...
Goodnight!
Rory Bremner springs to mind
Found the Sheene V-sign
Start at 3 min 20. I should add it was friendly gesture rather than aggression. It is that same racethough
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejel8lqB544
So I was just working out distances to racetracks according to Google Maps, to narrow down some live racing options..
Thruxton 1h45m, Silverstone 3h9m, Brands Hatch 3h7m, Donington Pk 3h39m, Rockingham 4h5m, Oulton Pk 4h15m
Now I need money.
Buying a helicopter are you?
Jetpack.
A few hours left for entry into Pitmonster's Prediction league
http://www.vivaf1.com/viewtopic.php?t=2495
Doesn't matter if you've missed the first two races as you can join me in being on zero points
Legend!
Ignore that, got more than 24 hours left come to think of it
Bless Murray and his "waving" :-)
Imagine someone doing that now
:D
Just noticed Autosport have details of the DRS zone in Shanghai
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90670
Once in British Touring Cars, John Cleland (I think) did a two-fingered sign followed by waving his middle finger at the car ahead. Murray interpreted this as "I'm second and I'm going for first", thereby neatly covering for the family audiences...
Yes. It's the normal 600 m, by the way.
I can't say I am surprised at Cleland or Murray in that situation
Thanks
♥
You're welcome. Though when I say "normal", I obviously mean "for the first time this season but for once according to the original specification".
oh my: http://www.lotusrenaultgp.com/4672-Kung-Fu-in-Shanghai.html
#rankings for nick
Just started the latest Motorsport video. Sound quality is massively better
http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/2011/04/13/video-the-week-in-motor-sport-13042011/
agreed, i done tweeted them and everything.
Did they reply?
the did when i complained, but not since i complimented. they seem like sound people, i told them they suck and they didn't block me. i don't think they're twitter addicts so will probably reply tomorrow.
This is an interesting criteria to measure people on
Is that what you do? :D
hehe.
i wish i could tell who i blocked, because twitter doesn't appear to tell you :(
They took it really well, I thought.
Awwww hehehe never mind. I'm sure they're best off forgotten!
I am sure there is a site that tells you who blocked you but not sure about finding out who you blocked
and they fixed the issue straight away. good customer service.
new episode from holly and pat: http://f1.fanvision.com/TheExperts/FormulaFanVision/Malaysian_GP
#notforstevensears
Why not?
pat symonds.
I have no problem with him
odd, gavin thought i had a problem with him, and i thought you did. who does have a problem with him then?
No idea
Not meeee :)
time for bed for me, so I'll say goodnight to the Pat Symonds Fan Club ;-)
:) :)
Me. He's guilty of race-fixing.
ahh yes. he woulda got away with it if it wasn't for that pesky kid (and his dad).
the gopro is become the motorsport camera of choice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TXw7lNK-3A8
Me too. I have less reason to listen to him than Peter Windsor.
and thats saying something
aparently there is a 3D version of that now. Crazy
The quality is incredibly good considering the cost and how they are being abused
it;s two put sidebyside, isn't it?
something like that. I dont understand 3D
at first i thought it was an april fools, but apparently it works. just buy two of them: http://gopro.com/gopro-launches-3d-hero®-system-world’s-smallest-1080p-3d-camera-professional-quality-at-a-consumer-price/
ooooo. thats not what I saw, but maybe i made it up. I thought there was a dual-lens thing in one box. Still, they are a great little setup. I almost bought one for my water sport adventures
Mr C i hear you wanted me?
oooh, yes. was wondering what your flatmates thought of the new final cut pro. if they're even interested in it?
hehe I just asked Dom, his reaction was one of confusion;
'i didn't even know there was a new version out.. but erm.. the old version was complicated enough, why do they need a new one.. i dread to think how complicated the new one is'
:)
you should.
hehehe. the new one is a bit more basic. what does he use then?
You should show him Windows Movie Maker :)
....actually no, I'm sure he can find far better comedy
hehe i think they're interested, as they use it for their digital films.. but yeah i think dom's reaction was more one of dread than excitement :)
it's a bargain.
He uses final cut pro all of the time.. but apparently Joe uses Premier Pro..
Dom just says it was hard to get your head round at first. he's happy it may be a bit more easy to use :)
how much is it? Dom refuses to believe it'll be a bargin :)
i feel like christine on fbfb typing up a conversation.
$299. uk price to be confirmed, about half that.
:)
oooh, expensive!
Someone needs to get a little chequered flag icon for the end of the conversation
heheheeh
wow
Maybe you can take over when she wears her fingers out typing 800 words a minute
bargain.
he asks if it's an extension?
Can he not type comments himself?
that really is. Shame I have no need for it
not an upgrade, full price.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/12/apple-announces-final-cut-pro-x-rebuilt-from-ground-up-with-64/
dom is looking suspicious at how cheap it is..
hes doing the washing up (mine included) :)
promise, apple are trying to put adobe out of business, so they're taking a hit. comes out in june.
yo folks
:)
ahhhhh, thats why its not in the store yet.
:D
Hi Leigh.
Love the Bira post
woaah.. that put a smile on his face..

you can also tell him no more rendering (happens in the background), whoop.
i have the boys completely trained now. I did a bit of his washing up the other day and he did mine today to say thanks. We had a takeaway cause i was feeling a bit down .. so i didn't even have to cook tonight either :)
Wake up Nicky!!!!!!
Cheers Steven,
Part 2 will be coming over the weekend
:)
Love today's google pic
Has the daily been done yet?
Yup.
No sweat then. Grand job.
:)
:D
