Hello everyone and welcome once again to the Monday after a race. It always feels slightly melancholy, doesn't it? Knowing that the result has been decided and history shaped, for better or worse.
It was a thrilling race, the sort that holds one's rapt attention throughout, without a lapse in concentration long enough to contemplate the need for a cookie. Alonso had a fantastic start and beat Vettel into the first corner. Liuzzi, on the other hand, decided to take the first corner backwards, causing mayhem and carnage and ending more than one race.
Vitaly: "lucky not to be injured"
He got a slap on the wrist for his achievements. After the safety car, Vettel was allowed to go and play in his corner, often more than ten seconds in front of the rest of the pack. Senna scored his first F1 points; he was thrilled; this is the reason I made you click on and listen to the Brazilian national anthem while you read this. For a broader picture of what happened:
The race highlights.
The results.
The post-race interviews. Alonso was almost shy when he apologised to Vettel for needing to fight harder.
The updated driver standings.
Today's geek section is devoted to plants. I suspect, if the yellowing of the leaves is anything to go by, that summer will be gone from this part of the world (Edinburgh) before I next write a daily, so I decided to have one last toast to their awesomeness.
If you've ever wanted to hear an Italian man explain about the intelligence of plants and the possibility of using concepts borrowed from them in networks, click here.
This one is for you lovely Sidepodspace geeks: what plants would look like on other planets.
And finally, a few words about weather prediction and a question that I've wanted to know the answer to for a while.
hullo new day and new week.
love the idea of listening to music and reading the daily.
...
sleeping christine, not so much.
booo being at work and not having youtube :(
It's a good day though, Roger is on a plane. And happy birthday dad! :D
lovely daily brij. i think cher has the answer to your question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwGGZTZ-3pM
Plus, you have a new women's US Open champion...
yes! I would've been happy either way but its very awesome that Sam won :)
Hehe, I felt like it would be fun, since Bruno did something major today and nobody plays his national anthem to celebrate it ;) I'm sorry Christine didn't feel the same; sleep is best done in silence, though.
Employers suck like that. Just know that if you do click on it, there are subtitles with the words and their translations in the video.
Mwahaha! I hadn't thought of that. The origin of the "one shoop" thought (in my mind anyway) was before my discovery of Cher.
Oh? I didn't know there was tennis being played. Who won? The only non-motorsport result I know is that a few days ago India kicked Zimbabwe's bum in cricket in a match in a friend's city.
Samantha Stosur over Serena Williams.
Tomorrow (today for you) is the delayed men's final, Djokovic vs Nadal
I'm somewhat glad that someone pulled one over on one of the Williamses.
Ooh! I should find a bar and watch that! Rafa is lovely to watch. I wonder if the place under George IV Bridge that has Cameron Brig for £2.80 a nip has sports channels.
Ted! With Eddie Irvine!
Eddie, you're not on cable! :P And it's obvious he hasn't been watching F1 for a while. A long while.

Steven, if you're around, the first Sunday Night Football is on in 13 minutes or so. Jets vs Cowboys.
Wow, that is one ginormous flag. I bet it's heavy.
Minute physics explains fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pfqIcSydgE
Cowboys are heading toward the goal line already. Jets on their heels. They better wake up.
Touchdown Cowboys.
Booooooo.
Cowboys 7
Jets 0
I've just watched the GP. Good race! Mixed feelings about Schumacher, it was classic Schumi both the good and the bad. He knows exactly how to place his car which was good, the blocking... awful. Glad he got a talking to at long last.
The fight for 2nd in WDC is on.
I can't say I completely agree with him but he has a point though
Indeed he has a point - particularly on DRS. But he is exaggerating a bit - we've some amazing overtakes that had no DRS involvement whatsoever.
it is not only about the DRS, but like for example yesterday must have been really confusing day for a random spectator. all the pre-race talk about gear rations long, short 7th gear etc ... then during the race all the "hitting the limiter" stuff ... not exactly user friendly Formula ...
But I actually liked that part. And cars used to hit the limiter a lot more in the past as well.
well, I just feel it a bit too much to digest for someone who is not an F1 geek. the technology and technology limits may not be the culprit, just the way it is presented and explained
I would compare it to humble myself watching rugby. I simply gave up on ever understanding the penalty calls. so I do watch sometime, I do enjoy it sometime but often I have no idea what caused the game deciding call from the referee :-)
And on that note, I just found this article:
http://formulaone.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/10/with-vettel-on-pole-the-first-female-racer-reflects/
Maria Theresa de Filippis, the first female F1 racer, reflects on F1 today.
"probably no women would really be up to racing in Formula One today, if for no other reason than they would not likely want to have necks twice the size of a normal one in order to cope with the car’s G-forces. Aesthetically speaking, it would be a problem"
this concern did this stop women from weightlifting, throwing discuss or javelin, racing is no different to that. I really doubt issues like this would stop racer (be it a man or a woman) from pursuing the dream ...
But in every one of those examples the women compete in a separate category...
but that does not affect the effect all that exercise has on the body. still have to build up the muscles needed for that particular sport
purchasing the tickets for Macau GP is a bit painful, the ticketing portal does not work at all ... may have to resort to unthinkable and go and buy the tickets at the counter ...
True, i dont think aesthetics will be so much of an issiue. F1 drivers have strong necks, but not hugely.
We will see a female driver one day, but its a bit like getting an f1 driver from say the UAE. first there needs to be a reasonable number going though the junior categories to increace the chances of finding someone with enough talent to make it all the way to F1. At the moment there just arent enough women in the lower categories.
... and talking of Macau GP - this is how their bit to Mid Autumn Festival celebration:

If I dont comment again its because i was eaten this morning http://gulfnews.com/about-gulf-news/al-nisr-portfolio/xpress/articles/cheetah-spotted-at-dubai-media-city-1.864961
... few months ago we had a wild boar roaming around our neighbourhood, and that is about as likely as a tiger interrupting the Singapore GP (Tiger meaning the animal, not the beer :-) )
Apparently its ok, it was just somones pet they were showing off!
Morning all,
Did everyone have a good weekend?
yes, there was Monza going on :-)
Not entirely sure what Simona de Silvestro or Danica Patrick would make of those comments, especially considering IndyCar's face greater G-forces at times on ovals...
the only surviving player from the Russian ice hockey team plane crash passed away this morning ...

I was meant to post this on Saturday, but wasn't about, so...

How well do you know your Formula 1 history?
The book That'll be the Day: 365 F1 Stories takes a look at significant moments or quirky happenings on this day in Grand Prix history. Can you guess what event the following describes?
Wasn't it Andrea Moda..?
I see Eddie Irvine made a guest appearance on Ted's Italian GP piece - he was quite..... vocal about the current rules...
woohoo, just had dinner with Pamela and next time I see her we'll be in Singapore!
As I said earlier, he wasn't on cable. :D It kinda hurts his credibility that he doesn't know what DRS was called - it did show he hasn't been watching regularly for a while - this year, at least.
True, but then again it's Eddie.
yes, my one only live race of the season is coming up next !
I'm so excited :D
wow, Tony Fernandes appears to consider Heikki as Lotus no 1 driver, I wonder if he mentioned that to Mr Trulli before the contract extension ...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94512 (forgot the link)
Meh tbh... Chandhok racing in India is not a shock, but a little surprised he's stepping in for Trulli again, especially after Fernandes said last year that Chandhok's races would be spread fairly across both main drivers.
That was for free practice though, not the races
Those quotes were pretty vague, im not sure the second one nececarily refers to whose car he would get into
Ted was pretty clear at the time that Fernandes referred to the races
talking about Lotus (the green one) - anyone noticed yesterday that Kovi's laptimes during the race were matching Barichello ? not sure if that Williams had some damage after that Liuzzi stunt though
I very much noticed it
He wasnt confirmed to do any races though (although it was rumored)
well, and while it is hard to disagree with those saying that the new teams are still rather poor and disappointing what does that say about Williams ... they are only 5 points better off than HRT and Lotus is matching them on a race pace ... I think the last time we saw such a decline of a formerly top team was the demise of the orginal Team Lotus ...
Here we go.
For example, Barrichello, laps 11-31:
1:32.407; 1:31.898; 1:31.944; 1:31.730; 1:31.483; 1:31.506; 1:31.652;
1:31.812; 1:31.641; 1:31.694; 1:31.653; 1:31.482; 1:31.721; 1:31.432;
1:31.244; 1:31.148; 1:31.092; 1:32.072; 1:30.709; 1:30.614; 1:31.356
Kovalainen from laps 11-31:
1:32.043; 1:31.978; 1:31.701; 1:31.820; 1:32.035; 1:31.929; 1:32.213
1:31.843; 1:31.984; 1:32.905; 1:36.554 [pits]; 1:51.699; 1:31.735; 1:31.205
1:31.414; 1:32.120; 1:31.168; 1:31.029; 1:33.014; 1:30.702; 1:31.045
I watched last night with the timing app and I noticed it too, because I wanted to see how far he got up the field. He only got faster in the final stint, into the 1:28s while Kovi got to high 1:29s I think.
I also noticed Barrichello didn't catch the safety car train before the restart, he came out of the pits and was at speed trying to catch up but was still a quarter of a lap behind.
I have a day off today. :)
we are off tomorrow, Mid Autumn festival, the biggest moon of the year tonight, if it comes out from behind the clouds :-)
Aye - saw that too - odd. I wonder where Senna would have ended up had it not been for the first lap kablammo
You get a holiday because the moon looks big? Sounds good to me.
Shame to hear about the death of Christian Bakkerud
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94514
Oh no
:(
well, it is a big day in Chinese Lunar calendar, I would compare it to Easter in other places
Its quite common, we had one here 2 weeks ago :)
There's nothing in the Danish media about it. How sad.
Sadly, I hear an ex-Minardi chap, Graham Jones, was killed in the accident as well.
:(
Damn
Tony Fernandes has changed his mind (more publically) so the Caterham Team Lotus speculation seems likely now.
"I always had a problem with 'am I really Team Lotus?"
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94515
Looks like Team Lotus changing their name is a done deal then: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94515
RG is gonna love this bit:
Longer interview I haven't read yet.
http://plus.autosport.com/premium/feature/3867/team-lotus-no-excuses-in-2012/
Oddly he wants to move the team already.
Part of it anyway,
I guess Nofolk isnt really that important if you aren't Lotus. Hes a cost cutter and if its cheaper to be further north then thats where they will go
if I were him I would have the same problem. he owns the name Team Lotus but in fact he is promoting other peoples cars ... that was surely not part of his original plan ...
re moving the team - it was nice and romantic vision to revive Team Lotus in Norfolk but a) the Team Lotus will not be Lotus for much longer and b) he can clearly see that to be near Silverstone is kind of a must if one wants to operate successful F1 team out of England. Mr Booth and Virgin are realizing the same now as well ...
Fernandes is simply being pragmatic as anybody who wants to be successful in business has to be ...
I guess another big question is 'does he want to make money out of the f1 team?'
Or be like red bull & ferrari to an extent where it is a loss leader to promote other things
I wonder if they will make their annual 'F1 team name for next year' announcement at Singapore :)
In that case, he has a choice of brands, such as;
Team Lotus
Team AirAsia
Team QPR
Team Loftus
Team Caterham
Team Tony
....
Or Just "Queens Park Racing" :)
:D
I think thats unlikely though as he already engages QPR fans though the football club
I think he does not necessarily need to make money of an F1 team or out of his QPR investment. but he is obviously clever and he plans to use both to help him grow the business that does make money
look at it this way - compare the visibility the AIr Asia brand received during all those years sponsoring Williams with the season and a half of Fernandes owning F1 team himself ...
Caterham Air Asia it will be ...
Probably. I'm not too bothered to be honest though.
I get the feeling the football team is more likely to change name to AirAsia Rangers!
well, you do not own those brands , but Fernandes does :-)
I don't doubt Tony is a terrific business man. However, after all that fighting and him saying "We are Team Lotus", etc, it seems a little odd that he now says that "He always had a problem with 'is he really Team Lotus?"
They announced a partnership with AirAsia this morning.... really (!!)
surprised by Tony Fernandes agreeing partnership with ... Tony Fernandes ? :-)
...again
:)
... he also sponsors the Premier League refs ... "this penalty decision is brought to you by Tune Group" :-)
and here I am signing off, going to look out for the big moon :-)
At least he put Malaysian Airlines on the home kit!
...which he owns 20% of ...doh!
Dont Howl!
Have fun
:)
I will try :-)
Exactly. Money talks..

Obituary for Graham Jones from Racecar Engineering
http://www.racecar-engineering.com/news/graham-jones-obituary/
My mistake folks - tweets from a few folks very much gave the impression he was with Bakkerud, when in fact he died separately.
It just so happened they passed away on the same day.
I love air asia #cultoftony
I have no issues with Air Asia (except the food quality on board :-) ) but will not be flying with them to Singapore :-)
Jason Plato is angry
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/motorsport/3809384/Shunt-knocked-me-sideways.html
I nearly got hit while on my bike this morning - one of those dinky cars pulled a u-turn from a parking space less than 5m in front of me without looking. I was braking so hard I was going sideways!
Yikes mate. Hope you're OK
All good. Got quite a fright and so did she. I don't think she'll be doing that again.
Nice pic
Could've been nasty
The punter punted? I haven't seen it but I don't have much sympathy for him.
Weather forecast for my weekend in Sydney has now hit 27 degrees. I am exciiiiited.
I don't think I shouild be reading the sun here. What's he complaining about?
Tom Boardman sent him off track at Knockhill and he hit a tyre barrier quite hard. Anyone else I'd call it bad, for him, comeuppance.
Yeah. He thinks "Rubbing's Racing" should be a rule ;)
Sorry Jason, but you missed NASCAR by a few years
Oh and Jaime has a music channel on You Tube now
http://www.youtube.com/squirechannel
DC venue is only 3km from Bondi. With weather like that, thats my whole weekend sorted :D
But my word, the music video does slide toward the cheesy end of the spectrum.
:D
I still like Fernando but Jaime is starting to become my favourite Spaniard.
it'll always be Manuel from Fawlty Towers for me
:D
He's going to record an album apparently: http://plus.autosport.com/free/feature/3868/behind-the-scenes-at-monza/
Also, I didn't know Rubens plays STCC online!
It's finished already. I believe it's out next week I think
:D
This gives me an idea - should the FIA introduce punishment by installment? For example, if Liuzzi qualifies 24th, he can't be moved further back, so his 5-place grid penalty should stand. If he qualifies 23rd, he can only move back 1 place, so he still has 4 places remaining to serve for his penalty, which he'd need to serve completely - on a race-by-race basis, if needed.
:-)
I'm still not entirely sure why he got a punishment in the first place
Nah - let's go the whole hog and stick him on the 29th grid spot
:)
I think Liuzzi had every opportunity to prevent that crash had he used his head.
Interesting.
Will have a listen to that when it comes out. :)
Wonder where you can watch the races.
I think he was a passenger for most of it
Nice idea, I quite like that. You wouldn't want to keep getting penalties then as they would add up.
The other thing they could do is actually put him in the 29th grid spot.
ooh snap
He placed his car where there was no room, putting him on the grass when the road disappeared
:D It's a fun idea, but it's kind of useless since there's no cars between him and 23rd. But why not, right?
Because he drove on to the grass instead of backing off, it got him into a spin and he took out 5 cars?
Obstacle course...?
What happens if he turns up in Brazil with a back-log of 32 grid place penalties?
Make him go through a ring of fire? :D
medical car :-D
You start in the parking lot outside
Make him start from Rio. :D
It'll give Heidfeld something to do on race weekends
in theory, he could gain enough penalties to start alongside the pole sitter
Just a lap behind. Hahaha!
he'd be starting his installation lap as everyone else begins the race - chaos!
...again.
He'd get a 10-place penalty... for 2013. :D
But he'll be in DTM by then
...with a 10-place grid penalty :-D
With his tactics on Sunday, he should be able to get by with some side swiping
Ahahahaha! He should go to NASCAR instead - 10-place grid penalties don't matter much there. :D
Ping: In shock news, Vettel clinched both the unofficial European Championships and the Classics Crown - the latter went right down to the wire though.
He's a more savvy kid than I give him credit for. He has a t-shirt line and a second career as a DJ...he's taken a leaf out of everyone else's book but got a jump start.
I think it's cute. He's managed a concept that must've cost very little to produce (as in: pay the vinyl factory; procure a single camera and set of lights; hire four crew members and get on with it) and still manages to be visually appealing.
Wherever he goes, it just needs to be far away from drivers I support. Rosberg's season has been going reasonably well and he got taken out by someone who couldn't accept that he was driving a car that would only ever qualify 23rd.
Or 24th in his case
technically, it was almost the best start of the season!
I think the only worthy penalty would be to hit him on the head with a wooden spoon. The move was so dumb it's not like there's many brains up there anyway ;)
Seriously though, he's blaming Heikki when if you watch the replay, he's no where near him. Just Italian red mist at Monza, that's all...
Agreed. Liuizzi moves across the white line, runs out of road and tries to cut back in. All the while Kovalainen is holding his line without moving, until he cuts left to give Liuzzi room. Liuzzi then tries to go around a white car (Perez?) by driving on the grass.

#IndyCar
Just listening to last week's Trackside and about half way through, Cavin and Lee are talking about Brian Barnhart at the Sonoma race around the time of the re-arrangement of the lapped cars.
While BB is often excused as a difficult job (I'm sure it is), the way it is explained and the reaction of Barnhart to the drivers (often shouting angrily down the radio at drivers) gives me an impression of someone who is somewhat out of their depth.
http://www.1070thefan.com/trackside/podcast.aspx
Someone said the other day (Pruett maybe) that they don't have proper procedures or review videos, relying on ESPN/Versus producer to pick up the right shot, and he's doing the job of two people
I would say all of that is true and yes he is doing two jobs - chief steward (tech side) and president of competition (race rules)
Aye indeed! It's quite telling that a rookie coming in halfway through the season makes fewer stupid mistakes.
Rosberg does have an unfortunate habit of choosing teams that don't give him a good enough car to do better. He'd kick ass if he was in a faster car!
Hehe, true dat! I know Alonso rates him, but I don't see what the fuss is about. I don't know enough of what happens in the paddock to know if his poor performance is because of Piquet Jr/Renault-like reasons, but he's not great at keeping a cool head. In terms of safety, well, I refer you to the first paragraph of point 5 here http://sidepodcast.com/post/5-reasons-why-di-grassi-deserves-a-drive-next-season
Idiot. There are times when one should fight; conversely, there are times when one should concentrate on getting the job done, rather than trying to be a hero (perhaps he should read what Senna said after his first Friday Practice drive with Renault?)
Watching the GP2 Sprint race from Sunday - and they just featured a helmet cam! With Giedo van der Garde's helmet.
Now I do wonder - how is it that they have it in GP2, but not in F1?
No chance of him being out front and staring at nothing
;)
They did for a race in 2008. Champ Car had in-helmet cams going back to 2004/05
I know - and we saw it for all of one corner with DC. Which makes it all the odder that it's in GP2, but not in F1.
Also must take into account that they may try thing in GP2 for use in F1 later on and bring it to F1 when it's nailed down.
One for Leigh..
Joao Paulo de Oliveira will drive #34 Conquest car at Twin-Ring Motegi, which is on the road course for a change. He's a Formula Nippon champion and won there two weeks ago. http://www.icontact-archive.com/q8Df3mhWPtkZcZMxW9vE_CSMJR9Xy1MQ?w=4
de Oliveira.... oooooohh that name rings a bell for some reason... cheers Pat
Cool, hopefully it'll be used a lot next year
I am editing photos and uploading videos from yesterday, like this one.
rosberg had one for the recent mercedes demo on the nurbergring. bernie wants extra money for every "innovation". same as he did for f1.
thermo cam, the 3d first corner and more will only become norm if someone (sky/bbc/etc) pay him more.
*for HD.
we saw a lot of the thermo cam and saw that 3d turn 1 once - but neither really interested me. i do hope we see more of the helmet cam though.
Rumours of Sam Michael going to McLaren - no idea of what position as of yet.
McLaren? Interesting. I don't see McLaren having much of a need for him, but that's just me.
Depends - is anyone leaving McLaren?
i'd rather see the 3d thing. no holding out much hope though.
fingers crossed for sky :)
Not that we've heard. Unless they think Pat Fry's role has yet to be properly replaced?
it looks great, but not sure what more it can tell me that regular replays don't already.
Different angles
it can show things the camera misses. so in spa, what actually happened between lewis and pastor.
in italy, how much heikki moved over on liuzzi. etc.
those are things that would be served just as well by onboard cameras, though.
we had an onboard for lewis in spa. it showed nothing.
well nothing of use.
What would have been useful yesterday was a 360 degree camera, as they have in IndyCar - some of the close / side by side stuff would h

nope - the cars make the cars look ugly

Did you have a good weekend?
Yes thanks, really good. I had a good old explore in different grandstands.
It was a bit windy though! And I couldn't really hear the commentary as my in-ear headphones wouldn't fit in my ears.
The lead battle was fantastic, the lead changed several times. I got lucky with this one.
Hey Everyone! Are Mr and/ or Mrs C around?
Hi Lou
You back at school yet?
lurking.
hey lou.
excellent, need to remember the 6hours when i arrange my holidays next year
hello! i go back to uni this week and our house doesn't have internet at the moment.. would it be possible for you to get someone to cover my daily on Sunday? I'll be home for the singapore GP so the one after that is no issue, but i'll have no internet this weekend except for my phone. Hopefully we'll have internet soon tho!
i move into my new house on wednesday, thank god.
certainly can do, no problem. i shall attempt it myself :)
cheers for letting us know.
Glad to escape from your parents?
I remember a year ago uni terrified you
hehe if you can find any methods of dealing without internet on your laptop for possibly 2 weeks can you let me know? :)
no problem It was mum that reminded me saying 'if you've got no internet are you going to text christine your daily post on sunday?' hahahah no mum. :)
yes. I was making an epic pasta dish tonight, something i usually only have in a resturant. It's really nice but mum was trying to help and she put the wrong cheese in it and ergh... ruined about an hours worth of work and well.. i'm just about ready to disappear from this place for a bit again. Sad thing is i have to leave my little car here for a bit :( I shall miss felipe.
buy a mifi :)
wrong...kind...of...cheese?
McDonald's free wifi.Either that or borrow a connection from a neighbour
ohhh yes, i remember that too! Em is feeling the same in regards to uni this year. I do feel for her but i've told her if i can do it she can do it :)
all i wanna do tonight is just collapse on my own and listen to music. I've come to realise this wont happen for a good few days.. so i should just except that :D
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/reading-365-f1-stories-without-a-kindle
I tweeted her earlier to let her know she posted her uni address publically on facebook. I am so pleased she got a place this year
i can't even afford a dongle :(
erm yes, the sauce was parmesan based and mum put chedder in it.. :'( so the it was more like nacho cheese with courgette and pasta rather than pasta and courgettes in a nice sauce :'( made me very sad.
are you moving next to stuart? offer to clean his bike for wifi.
mmmm nacho's
hehehehehe Farnham doesn't have a mcdonalds! :D or any fast food places really (with the exception of a subway and fish and chip places)
i'll let her know. is it just available for her friends to see or is it everyone on facebook ever?
i *think* i'm a few doors down from him... saw one of his cats the other day! :) so cute!
Don't they know there are students there?
That is a good idea tho. I have uni for internet if i really need it for work but it's a bit of a long walk :D #lazystudent
hehehe Farnham isn't too keen on students. Nothing is open past midnight or anything XD
I can see it.
You need a long phone cable then
Strange place
I see the Graham Hill prog has popped up on the iplayer again
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00bv14q/Graham_Hill_Driven/
brilliant. hold it hostage for wifi.
it was on BBC4 an hour ago
Park outside and just use it.... :D
and again just after midnight
The iplayer is getting faster
he may notice :)
It's his own fault for giving you the password
ah okay. :)
hehe yes, very. Not a uni town at all, but that's why i love it. :)
hehe if by hostage you mean give it endless cuddles then sure! we have a cat flap in our house too, it's just asking for us to get a little kitten. Shame the landlord doesn't allow pets :(
Oh well, can't go wrong with a bit of bare faced cheek. Steven didn't bother going into McDonalds....
Are you suggesting I used bare faced cheek?
:D i have my lovely smart phone so i'm not too fussed about not being about to keep up with news, but my mac will be very lonely without it's good friend, the internet :)
Parking outside to leach off wifi is pretty cheeky!!
I have gone in and bought stuff many times. It's not like it is a shop I have never been in
Audi have launched their new DTM car
I like the direction the DTM is going. Reduced aero, reduced electronics, no pit stops.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94523
Nice car.
I hadn't realised they were dropping fuel stops. Hopefully all this will help, I reckon the lower aero will have a nice effect..
They had way too much sophisticated aero for their own good
does it say no fuel stops? doesn't it imply that will be an option, or is it a rule change?
finland is the future of the interneet: http://gigaom.com/cleantech/cool-finnish-weather-the-new-hotness-for-green-data-centers/
#kindofmaybe
It is ambiguous
It was all in little flickups as well, dirtied the air
It's written as if it is something which they are thinking about and hasn't been confirmed, but I don't think they'd have built it that way unless it was going to happen.
WOW
didn't know googled cooled their datacenter with the sea. blimey.
I hope they have good leak protection or they could end up with a load of corrosion from the salt
It's funny though. When you talk about using McDonalds wifi, I imagine you going in and buying a coffee. Turns out you're just parking outside. It's funny!
It's way cool! I'm so excited that there are people who also realise that we need to cut down on our cooling bills.
Wouldn't that have been at the top of the list of "problems we need to avoid"?
Absolutely but leaks are not the easiest things to avoid/
The sea is pretty mighty!
and that thing just looks cool.
Want. :)
:D
I've always liked the look of the DTM cars. Also the Super GT ones from Japan.
I don't think Audi know how to make a bad looking race car.
Mind you I'm quite partial to the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3

But you just build most of it out of leak-proof stuff that's corrosion-resistant and keep a close eye on the seals at the joints. Yes, there's a bit of effort involved in a daily seal check, but if you use as many long stretches of pipe as possible, it shouldn't be too onerous.
It doesn't seem to work like that in nuclear plants
Most Google centres probably don't contain stuff that will cause an agonising death if you stand too close to it. Perhaps the risk of potential death has something to do with the willingness of staff to go around checking seals. Maybe it's the technology they're using to test the seals, although one would think nuclear plant manufacturers would have a huge R&D department dealing with just that.
Nuclear plants should be a lot more motivated to avoid leaks but there are constant stories of radioactive materials as a result of leaks.
Not your typical race car driver/race team owner health update :)
@SarahFisher67 Sarah Fisher
Big News! Sarah will be checked into the hospital in just a little while. Doctors have decided to induce her this evening due to some minor changes.. perfectly fine though! Stay tuned!!
That is definitely a bit different
we may be the only 2 people not watching tennis right now.
Is there tennis on?
:)
This is one of those times where I don't know if you're kidding or not.
I'm watching. It's epic :D
i'm not.
I just put it on, too, to see how it's going, so Steven's the last human not watching...if he's not. :)
I have no knowledge of tennis. I know Murray lost in a semi recently so I guess this is the final now with whoever beat him in it
oh, Mr C, too. And then there were 2. :)
I had to leave my desk to go closer to the TV to watch Nole serve for the set. Then he screwed it up :(
Men's final, playing a tiebreak.
I see
