Hello everyone and welcome to this glorious race day! With there being so much to keep up with this week let’s have a quick daily to bring you up to speed with some things and let you get on with your busy sport filled day.
Firstly, if you didn’t catch the F1 action yesterday make sure you catch up on your FP3 results, qualifying highlights
and results. Christine has also supplied us with an excellent recap of the press conference too, so make sure you check that out here. How about some predictions for the race as well?
• Who will be leading at the end of the first lap?
• First to retire?
• First to spin?
• Who will make up the most places at the end of the race?
Speaking of cool new things, have you noticed the little facebook comments section at the bottom of this and every other post? Go on, take a look..
Yesterday was also Dr Who day for us in the UK, just in case you missed it, take a look at Christine’s review of the latest episode here.
Moving onto some fun links now then,
• I know there are a few Back to the Future fans in the comments, but have you spotted these?
• How about taking a look at some cute photos that tell the story about two little teeth? Yep you read that right.
• And here are some cute photos proving that bambi and thumper really do exist.
Today, as well as the Grand Prix, we also have action at Silverstone, some tennis and probably some football. Do stop by in the comments and tell us if you’ve been to any events today, we always love to hear about your trips! Oh and nobody forget Coldplay’s new single is out tomorrow, yippee! See you in the comments!
I was gonna head to bed soon but i'm not sure i can deal with not knowing how this match ends :( ...
hello new daily.
Heh, who knew baby teeth could be so sweet?
come on Murray break Nadal so i can go to bed knowing you stand a chance..
we need to shout, I don't think he heard you over his team talking
lovely shot!!
he even did a twirl and everything. Impressive.
ooohhhhhhhh!!!
he's doing his best to keep you up lou ;)
i wanna sleep dammit!
cheers for the daily ms. lou. the bambi link might need a http:// at the beginning.
if anyone on facebook could try out the new comments that would be appreciated. we're just trying learn if they can bring anything to the conversation. some sites have seen good things from them, others less so.
i tested it and everything.. all fixed now.
but tennis allnighters are so fuuuuun
will give it a go for you, although I know which side of the fence I definitely sit on :)
i'm just so tired! i'll stay up to watch Muzza win.. but i dont' really wanna stay up forever and watch him loose :)
although this is rather good tennis.
i saw that one on yesterday's daily, much appreciated :)
yaaaay Stosur is into the final :D :D
understood. am thinking people who normally wouldn't enter email info in the comments box might be more inclined to leave thoughts if it was an interface they were familiar with.
It'll be interesting if it picks up, seeing as so many places utilise facebook commenting but I've never ever been won over by the idea. Although I am a big facebook grump and much prefer lovely commenting as normal so my opninion may be heavily biased in the first place.
Murray you have until 1:30 to break Nadal.
but what about Serena/Woz, that'll be a good one :D :D
also true.
we like to reinvent things a lot, so we're looking at it from a "if sidepodcast started today and not 5 years ago, what would we do about comments?". facebook is likely what we'd do.
worth noting though that i can't actually comment via facebook because i don't have an account :)
i knoowwww.. i was thinking how i'd like to see that match too.. but i'm so tired, and i need to rest my head at once point, silly headache. silly American open being on American time!
god bless you, 2004.
2006.
maths is fun.
your maths is as awesome as mine ♥
ah that was a good year :)
ahhhhh Murray don't mess this upppppp!
its stupid that they put the men on first when the women have to play their final tomorrow. Whoever wins this match isn't going to get a lot of sleep. But CBS dictates the USO schedule :(
That was such a great win a few weeks ago for jenson! It's great seeing a Honda win, one day he might just be a world champion
#2006speak
aaaahhhhhhhhhh!!! wonderful. thank you Murray! and by 1:30 too!.. may stay up a bit longer.
andy is listening to lou a bit more now he's stopped reciting his poetry
poor Wozzy :( I want her to win a grandslam soon. but then again if Murray's match was any later i wouldn't be watching it :)
nadal's gone to sleep. maybe he's on BST too..
I want Serena to win and then I'll be happy with either Serena or Sam in the final :)
shh dont wake him :)
*whispers*
:) Serena appears to be wearing alot of green today. it's not a good look
he's got that awful sweaty clingy shirt he had like in Australia when he was sick. It's gross. Get a bigger shirt.
green? her outfits are blue or red :D
two set pints :D
points, points! I did the exact same typo at wimbledon commenting too.
ohh? i could have sworn i saw her in a green top and leggings while practicing.. i could be colour blind tho :D
ohh practice, now I get you
the green stripe with red damanged your eyes and now you're seeing green everywhere :)
it didn't look great.
Murray!! DONT MESS THIS SET UP! PLEEEAASSEE!
YESSSSSSS!
wooohooo!
game on.
the sky guy just said 'you may have been thinking about going to bed a minute ago... don't leave now!'
... okay. :)
am happy he won the set by 1:30 tho, he's making good time :)
:D
such lurkers.
new shorts for Murray, he now looks like he's in football kit :/
hehehe, he looks like the guy who left his PE kit at home at school now.
i hope after this open he never ever wears that red shirt again/
now he thinks he's actually playing football. this is going well.
he looks like he wants to be in the Swiss DC team
hehehe!! he can't be in their team! If he wants to play in the davis cup he can play next week! :)
as far as I'm aware he is :)
i thought so, but i didn't want to say he was just in case you being the tennis guru said he wasnt :)
as good quality tennis as I'm yawning louder than sharapova's shot groans and struggling to keep my eyes open now so I'm gonna head to bed
night all!
night!
wohoo! come on murray!
stop screwing up murray, early break in this set please.
this is not looking good..
Aw bad times Murray :( he looks sad. Least it wasnt a straight set loss. ah well. Sleep time now. Night all! x
night lou.
I have made and ate scrambled eggs, I officially declare it to be Tomorrow.
have you slept?
nope. That's why I had to decide when it stopped being yesterday :D
madness! it can't be tomorrow though, i haven't slept?
its not 11.30am for you, you still have time :)
are you not planning to sleep before the race?
I probably should, I have to train someone at work tomorrow so I can't do my usual 'I haven't slept, I'll just pretend to work' routine. I did want to get in a run today too but I'm not sure my brain would like that.

Morning. Mild panic as I overslept by an hour.. I'd hoped to get to Silverstone with an hour to spare to see if I could get to the paddock, or instead find a cup of tea and a bacon roll. Now I'll get there in time to find a seat, if the front straight stands are open!
If you want to follow the 6 Hours before the F1 starts and after it finishes, you can watch www.lemans.org or at Audi TV or Peugeot TV websites.
Timing on www.lemans-series.com.
Ant Davidson will be making appearances on Radio Le Mans (and I think so will Martin Haven).
Right, I'm off, will let you know when I arrive, assuming the unreliable Silverstone network coverage lets me. Phone browser not so good so may do more tweeting than commenting.
oh it starts at 11.35am UK time.
Good norning.
Today we celebrate the 33º aniversary of Ronnie Peterson's death, at Monza.
Poor Fernando, he's completely surrounded: http://www.f1-direct.net/2011/img/italie/018.jpg
I feel more sorry for the people being crushed on the other side of the barrier, that is really not a fun place to be!
How well do you know your Formula 1 history?
The book That'll be the Day: 365 F1 Stories takes a look at significant moments or quirky happenings on this day in Grand Prix history. Can you guess what event the following describes?
Ready to watch the GP2 race!
talking to my mum while she freaks out over Wales in the rugby, I've never heard her like this before!
Morning, totally forgot Wales were playing this morning however looking at things I think the lie in was the better option :)
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/live-italy-2011-the-race
their kicker guy was rubbish, in the 10 minutes I was watching he missed two attempts that would have won them the game :(
By the sounds of things they still plays really well which is good considering it's South Africa, but a loss is still a loss *shakes fist at james hook's missing kicks*
morning from Silverstone. Stuck in a queue to buy a ticket, and cars are leaving grid soon!
made it in just in time, but they didnt take my discount voucher..
To be fair he scored one which they didnt count!
Boo! What reason did they give?
least you've got there now, hurrah!
Right, the next order of business is suggestions for what I should have for dinner with Pamela tomorrow (today?) night.
I'm currently tossing up between about 30 things on the menu. Stupid large delicious menu.
Prociutto Pizza from the Gourmet range
their pizzas are quite amazing
Hmmm. I personally like the Halloumi wood-fired focaccia (although the Bruschetta one looks interesting too). The risottos look interesting too - try Chicken & Mushroom or Frutti di Mare.
you can eat kangaroo?
What does it taste like?
I do like risotto. I should probably find out if they're open first, some websites seem to say closed on Mondays, some seem to say open every day. Boo.
Like Chicken, of course :)
its very gamey. I like it.
:)
mmmmm. chicken.
oh crap, I just realised the womens USO final is in 5 hours. I really want to watch it. Stupid need to sleep!
I take it Rory McIroys girlfriend isnt in it, the other golfers were tweeting him saying his tweets about how proud of her efforts he was were making them all sick :)
it packs a punch?
Italian 'new teams' update: http://northernwaffler.wordpress.com/2011/09/11/high-attrition-helps-team-lotus/
Hirvonen wins Australia's WRC round, and sits now just 15 points away from Loeb in the championship after he crashed out the first day:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94464
The victory was a 'team effort' after Latvala slowed down to let Hirvonen pass two stages from the end (Latvala is almost out of contention for the championship). With three rallies to go (two on tarmac) it will be difficult for Hirvonen to catch Loeb, but this puts a bit of spice on the fight.
The biggest story in my opinion is Citroën applying team orders to switch Loeb and Ogier to get just 1 point more for Loeb, even if Ogier was just 25 points away in the championship. It will be 2nd driver for him for the rest of the year. I guess Ogier can't complain after he threw away an open goal win two stages after Loeb crashed...
Seems like that F1 rocks competition can't have been too popular - look at the response I got from Adam Hay-Nicholls: https://twitter.com/adamhaynicholls/status/112928534275686401
Enjoy a little something from the Sidepodcast back catalogue.

how are people emailing ted?
I was hoping ted at bbc.co.uk may work but alas... :)
No ideas though, I guess some people may know. Unless he means tweets.
Ted listens to the internet. All of it
he's a twit*
*or similar.
Ted got a little dig in at the end after he walked away though
*hugs* ted for that final line.
Ted should be Sir Ted. He's awesome.
That's why Ted is awesome :)
At least he has a cartoon named after him, that's a start

Hai, my keyboard on my lappy toppy has just gone CRAZY! It was typing the letters in alphabetical order, no matter what key I pressed, it was showing on the screen a b c d... I've never seen anything like it!?
GP+ is late this week
Hi. Just to say I'm back home and can comment properly now. Bit of a long drive home due to traffic and rain, head hurts a bit now.. Shall be crashing on the sofa with a beer watching the F1 race in approximately 2 minutes time.
So I'm jumping out of the comments again 'til I've seen it. :)
Hi Pat
The race is well worth it Pat, Enjoy!!
Oooh dear. I'm getting very tempted to buy things. Note to self: discounted items are still expensive!
Joe was talking to Naoise at Monza
