I've been doing this job for all of two days, and already I'm setting new records for daily publishing lateness.
I've had a scout around for Formula 1 news this afternoon, and there isn't any. None at all. Which makes me mighty glad I'm not a news agency promising to deliver between 10 and 20 original F1 stories a day. If I'd have been dumb enough to suggest that, I might be forced to make something up.
Thankfully, there is plenty going on in the community today to keep us occupied.
- The Sidepodaddiction page has scaled new heights, reaching Stage 7.6 which handily covers "denial". I'll likely never make it beyond Stage 6, but if you haven't done so already please do confess your Sidepodhabit to all on the wiki.
- Apparently James Allen didn't get the memo about us appreciating his writing much more than his talking. Yesterday he published an audio slideshow of such pompous arrogance you wonder if he has any real friends, to advise and to guide?
- An early weather report from The Red Bullog has next weekend's Chinese Grand Prix down as a cold by dry affair. Might we finally get to see the relative pace of all the cars, or will Tuesday's FIA ICA hearing muddy those waters yet further?
That pretty much cover's Formula 1's day of no news. Do let us know what you're up to in the comments, and yell if you spot any made up Sunday news. There's bound to be some when you've got to fill those quotas.
one hour and 11 minutes to spare!
Happy Birthday Amy ;)
Happy birthday btw! Was the show your present?
yay! happy birthday amy.
My sidepodaddiction has grown massively over the past few months :D
I've gone from klurking in comments to being in the top 5 already with comments in the last 30 days... whoopse...
Also happy birthday amy :D
Hippy Birdday!
Happy Birthday, Amy!
How did you discover SPC, anyway? ;)
It was one of my presents to myself, along with next years Grand Prix tickets (which go on sale in 2 days) and a framed picure of Kimi in a McLaren. I rock at buying more for myself than for others.
Happy Birthday Amy! :)
I'm taking it thats Stage 8. 8.5 must be being top
:P
Happy birthday Amy :)
Heh, I can relate to that.
I first started listening well over a year ago because Joe introduced me to it, I remember sending an email in saying how I preferred SPC to ITV's coverage :D
but I just didn't comment and fell away from sidepodorbit for months and months to be honest, I'll admit that I was also a little overwhelmed at keeping up with everything when i was getting used to uni and stuff but lou's really got me into it again in the past few months (I did promise to her i'd make more of an effort and it's been worth it :))
To Lou?! Did you meet her here in SPC? Or outside of it?
I think it was on msn when joe made a multi user coversation about one of the grand prixs late last year (singapore I believe) and we were in the same converastion together obviously, and got talking from there on :D
No wonder I missed all that - I wasn't here that weekend. ;) Funny, though, you're more active than Joe now! :D
Just seen the BATRacer results.
Everything seems back to normal now. Incidents involving RG - 1
Hope you had a great day
Tp be fair it wasn't just sudden then. I'd say since then it's slowly built up on here especially in 2009 with getting involved with panels and whatnot, plus you know when you're addictd to spc when the first thing you open when starting up your laptop is the desktop doohickey :D
Agreed. :D Hahaha!
Anyone watching A1GP right now?
I am now...
Poor Lebanon, P4 on the grid wasted.
This in the sprint?
I need to find a stream, it's only on Pay TV here. I watched it lots in NZ when it was free but since I've moved I've lost touch. But I'd like to see how Tonio does.
I can't get it, what's happening? And how is Australia going?
They sneaked past USA - Martin caught out Andretti who just came from a failed attempt to overtake.
Ah...
A daily post... so does this mean that orange juice and unnamed energy drink have been consumed? Or was there chocolate left for the purposes of revival?
As for 'daily' news wrt F1 - any half way decent agency has a 'excepting Easter Sunday and Christmas Day' clause somewhere in the tiny print :D
Right - off to stir raw chocolate and wonder why its not worked properly :-( and then hose down the teen who is returning from her muddy shooting based scout camp....
Try the A1GP website.
I should probably get pay tv installed, I work for the company and can get it for free! I'm worried I'll get hooked and not want to give it up when I get a new job so I'm avoiding tempation.
Happy Birthday Amy!
Indeed, Happy Birthday Amy!
You're the 3rd person that I'll be saying that to today - spooky
It's a good day! Senna was on pole in Jerez the day I was born ;)
Happy birthday, Amy :)
Haha! Don't be harsh on yourself. Get a box. :D Part of the perks. ;)
Happy Birthday Amy!!
Hi again everyone, are we all having a nice lazy Sunday?
You can say that - watching A1GP. :)
There's only 24 mins left in my Sunday!
I've burnt a CD on itunes, but it now refuses to eject, any ideas?
Sometimes my CD drive refuses to eject too. I have to restart my computer to fix it.
Eh? Reboot, then while the PC is booting up, eject the CD.
Good idea, seems to have worked :)
Yay!
afternoon
having a lazy sunday indeed with too much choccy and a good game of football on the tele.
I've not actually had any chocolate today. I have made a lot of banana milkshake though, and I've got some Ben & Jerrys in the freezer for later :D
Oooh.. sounds yummy
Goodnight guys, my alarm is going off at 6:50 in the morning so I am going to try to get some sleep before than. Have a good one.
night :)
Sure is, as was the French bread pizza I made!
GoodNight
I find it odd that when boating, one has to stick to the right hand side, and pass that side too. Completely at odds with the roads. Having said that, crashing is less dangerous because we're going so much slower. As i Ihave found out a couple of times already.
Are you the one in control of said boat?
See ya Sean
How many times your crashed? Are you the Piquet of the canals?
If she is, what is she doing live commenting? :D
She's still going, so she's definitely the Heikki of the canals.
Well, I'm alright going round easy corners but it's navigating through currents, locks and past other boats that I struggle on. Maybe that makes me DC?
Mexico is the final round?? What?? Did I hear that right?
What happened to Brands Hatch?
That should be definitely not the Kovi
No, no, she'd be gone by the first corner
Rubens would be proud
hehe :) i was just about to suggest that ;) is the weather better today?
'the Kovi'? What's wrong with me today?
Oops - that's BEFORE Mexico. Hehe. :D
Doornbos does a Kimi - and sees his extinguisher go off - on the formation lap. :O
wow the A1 website is really good.
Talking of Kovi did you heard that last year he claimed he put too much pressure on himself so this year he decided to be more relaxed?
Neither approach is working, don't you think? :-/
The weather is better. No rain and warmer. Still seen no sign of the sun though. I'm not sure it's still up there, actually.
so his relaxed approach is to do a lap.. and then chill out and watch the race? ;)
he's saving his engines ;)
Not wanting to be smug, but we have had blue skies all day and its probably the hottest day of the year
ahhh so that's his tactic ;) lots of engines, no points :)
I dont think the pressure bit if his problem in f1, I think the f1 bit of f1 is where he's going wrong :D
ahh like here then, although we did have the sun earlier...
when everyone else is on engine 9 and taking their grid penalty and he's still on engine 1 he can talk about how much money he's saved the team, and how he finally gets to be on pole. ;)
OK so Macca are not so stupid after all!
Seems like it shame. Hope he has better luck this coming weekend.
:D haha
I need the opportunity at least once this season to say "I told you so" because I only got it once last year!
genius!
I am hoping Timo get s a victory this season. As for Kovy the car is not exactly helping to score lots of victories.
I know it's a bit late, but I only just got here so: a belated happy birthday to Amy!
Regarding BATracer, Sean (or was it Jon?), if you read this you may want to lower your experimentation if you say you keep crashing. There are times it makes you crash at 60 experimentation or less though, which... sucks, basically.
I tried the A1GP website but I can't seem to access it. Any streams?
Me too. He's definitely a favourite of mine, plus he replaced Ralf which has got to be a tick in his box.
There are quite a few Timo fans arund here I think. Really hope he gets a win this year.
He's won me over sooo much, he seems a nice guy and the more he's been in F1 the more he's got out of that car. Dare I say it's making me like toyota with Trulli there as well!
At the start of last season I predicted him to be the 100th GP winner, I was actually scarily close. If it wasn't for that blasted Kovalainen
i think he will, the car seems pretty good, and he's been performing really well :)
I know, I never paid a lot of attention to Toyota but both their drivers are such nice guys I want them to win and stick around.
The people I was watching the race with in Melbourne looked at me like I had 3 heads when I said I run by the theory of "he's a nice guy, so deserves to win"
He seems quite modest in interviews - I said elsewhere he almost has the consistency of Heidfeld but a much greater hunger for success. His pass on Alonso at Melbourne impressed the Ant.
Thats another reason why I want Glock and Jarno to do well, we don't need teams leaving F1 and even if it is toyota I'd much happier them stick around with a convincing season to prove they should stick around, which they seem to be having :)
There is a tendency to under-rate both. When Jarno was with Alonso he was as good (at got the Monaco victory) just spars flew with Flav. He also seems as nice a guy but I have seen more interviews (German) of Timo.
This year it would be good if teams like Toyota, Red Bull, Williams etc get victories. This will help them with sponsorship or funding security.
Toyota, oddly enough, I like as a team. I never know why, but I like Jarno and as you know, I like Timo. I think they are two talented drivers, Jarno might not have many years left, but Timo is still a young guy, he could become a bloomin world-class driver.
and he's easy on the eye
who said that? *innocent whistle*
Get off.
:D
One of the positives of the Brawn GP is that they gave hope to other teams that there is a chance to get victory this year. Personally the slump in Macca's performance and that Ferrari management seems to be exploring even lower levels of incompetency could be benefit to the sport as a whole. Listen to a Force India podcast - they too were excited that Brawn is winner. Generous but it provides some belief.
RG and I fought over him when there was the looks competition but he still only got 4 votes.
hmm the retirement of Bamber (again) makes me think it's time for bed. Night all!
see ya amy.
I'm still watching you...
Have a good sleep Amy
Poor Zaugg. Got taken out - again.
G'nyt Amy.
night :)
Night Amy :)
I cannot watch A1GP but Zaugg always seems to have bad luck. There are not many South African racers to get excited about!
i am now on mudbank watch to make sure we dont get stuck around the sharp corners.
Your not watching very hard then
i am trusted with a big pole and everything
boo. mudbank watch is over. i only required the big pole once.
there's a boat behind us and the driver, um pilot? or maybe steerer? anyway, they have a sailor suit on. it's weird.
Haha! Any pictures? :)
You mean captain.
Pardon? 8O
they are a bit far away at the moment, but i will try at the next stop.
Happy easter!
It's very difficult to live comment narrowboating because... um... nothing is happening. Boo.
Still doing more than me. I'm watching Groundhog Day...
Again?
Yup
I'm playing Grid online if anyone is interested?
Argh, the day I lend out GRID!
gutted
What's going on here 'me' using uppercase letters and Mrs. C not using them. I better go check for four strange looking guys on horseback :)
What's your gamertag chris?
TnM Chris
Will add you in a sec, will probably be getting GRID back later tonight or tomorrow
Hmmm.. bored with groundhog day now...
Going to stick on the Bluray of From Dusk Till Dawn
cool beans. We will have to start the lap time challenge soon, I'll have to make a page on the wiki
Just accepted.
Theres a lotta Toyota love today!
Iv always liked them really, they're the perennial underachievers, though not really underdogs due to their massive budget.
And as far as corporate behemoths go, Id say they're one of the nicer ones (decision based purely on company font;) )
I've worked out why I like them. They are Tottenham Hotspur, have a massive, massive, massive budget. But then do absolutly nothing with it apart from one year where they challenge for a high up spot (this one btw)
Ooh, who's playing Grid online now?:P
And you're talking about Toyota? Ugh. *rage*
I'm playing with my brother at the mo.
I can get online if you'd like. Wouldn't mind some online racing myself.
Sums it up - STR and FIF1 are the true underdogs. Saying Toyota underachieved is only relative - compared to Honda they were not too bad.
We might think Macca's has a propensity to shoot itself but compared to Honda it was nothing. I do love that Brawn is riding the crest of the wave but their original owners must wonder.
You've still got to consider if Honda's engine for 2009 would've been as good as the Mercedes is for Brawn. The car obviously is well designed no doubt as they've spent over a year preparing it but I wonder myself how different it would've been with a Honda engine.
Was just about to turn it off I'm afraid!
Brawn chaps have said that the Honda was down around 70bhp and was much less drivable than the Merc lump.
Considering Honda at one point raced with a 1000bhp V10, I'm frankly amazed that their V8 was that bad.
Had a look at Fantasy Racers Driver values - Alonso only 7 million and Kubica 7.5 million - they have to be bargains - it is rare for BMW to retire and Alonso with the KERS and a good strategy should score points. Kovy still overpriced at 8.5 million. Felipe Baby is the driver that has lost the most value followed by Ice cream man. Jenson now cost 2.3 million more than Lewis the next most expensive driver.
Ah, alright. By the way Chris, you should do the page for the Laptime Challenge when you get a chance. You can decide about the rules and all that jazz.
The Honda was under-powered, but more especially its power delivery was peaky which made driving it difficult. Ducati has shown that torque power curve is also important when racing. Although last year their MotoGP was near un-rideable unless you were Casey Stoner.
Amazing considering the company boasts the best knowledge of the Internal Combustion engine (petrol) and produce more than any other company. It has one of the largest R&D budgets.
Will do. I'll make up a set of rules but obviously they will be open to suggestions.
Sweet. Let us know when you've got it done. Also, have a look at Batracer when you can.
Anyone love the fact that they announced Schuey wont be at the next 2 GP's??? They've never announced when he will or won't be attending, i wonder why they might have started....hmmm :P
Where'd you read that, looks like they are trying to alleviate some of the media pressure
http://www.f1technical.net/news/12107
Ta
Just looking at the Moto GP changes for this year
Tyres seem to be a popular method of controlling strategies eveywhere, it seems
I've just started the GRID Laptime Challenge on the wiki. Anyone with the game, get involved!
Friend is on his way round with GRID so will give it a shot soon :D
He was banned by the Ferrari team as he brings bad luck or judgement depending on opinion!
Coolio. I've made up a set of rules but they are more than open for changes. I've set a challenge for this week but we can all take it in turns.
I'm bad with F3, so this should be interesting :P
What I'm most looking foward to is where the F1000 will be, if it's used. Same goes for the Detroit, Spa and Milan tracks.
You can choose next week then if you like.
You can decide the rotation basis for who chooses when.
I assume that we get to have each car type (Touring car, F3, F1000 etc) just once? And any limits on how many times a track may be used?
Keep it pretty open I think. As long as tracks or cars don't get repeated too often.
I loved F3 on previous Race Driver games, and it looks like my laptop might be able to cope with GRID if i turn down the graphics. So i just need some money and a controller :D
Question about media storage, I notice drop.ie has a limit of 100MB per files. Is there other sites which have a higher (or even better) no limit on a file?
Thought drop.io was 2gb per file?
What kind of files are you posting!?! lol
You can pick up wired Xbox 360 controllers for about £20, they work a treat. You just have to download a bit of software from the Microsoft website.
Also if ypu have a wireless 360 controller you can get an official wireless receiver thats about £10 to play it with PC games, works a treat for me :)
100 mb is the total of free storage
If you are still looking for free and is for exchanging rather than long term storage, try Rapidshare or Megaupload
And i've found GRID for £16 :D awesome
Also, I'm looking for long-term storage.
RS is about £12 a quarter
Maybe be a little higher now the Euro exchange rate isn't so good
Though a USB powered portable hard drive will be around £50 for 320gb or so
http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/mybloop-free-unlimited-file-storage-space-with-no-limit-on-bandwidth-and-files-count/
That seems handy, even with the 1GB per file limit. I'll try it.
ADrive offers each user 50GB of online storage and backup for free in Basic Storage Plan. Each upload file is limited to maximum file size of 2GB - I use it as a backup and for sharing large files.
http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/adrive-offers-free-50gb-online-storage-and-backup-space/
Have a bit of a read first, seems a bit too good to be true
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MyBloop
I'll be first to throw my lap into the hat on GRID; 1:26.27
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00577-jpg
Right, I'm going to have a bash at it now.
Also, free online storage sites come and go with little notice. Don't go storing anything you really don't want to loose or can't replace
It is as it is available only to users in United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, Romania, Australia, New Zealand.
It's starting to rain in the MotoGP 125cc, and since its also a night race, red flag. And someone managed to spin off even after that.
Bernie, take note.
Romania is the odd one out there, wonder if that's where it's servers are?
And imagine it on a street circuit.
Gotta love scott reddings little moustache, that young man needs a shave
It is based on the internet architecture of the country. Romania has spent billions on its internet availability so it is one of the best connected countries in the world. I am surprised Brazil is not included.
Servers are based in the USA and usage restricted by USA laws. Music therefore can be streamed but not shared.
Wow, I'm well out of practice. Barely managing a 1.29 at the moment!
Yeah, it was only after I tried to create an account that I found out about the country restrictions. I created a new email for it too, oh well. [email protected] is a cool email :P
Thanks a lot Rich, just made an account on ADrive now :D
Gonna do some times on Grid now, woo. This will be a great contest. Thanks for starting it, Chris :D
Depends on your budget but I prefer Rapidshare personally
Just pushed it up a bit to 1:26:13 :P
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00579-jpg
Dang. I'm steadily improving though....
I can't believe how fast the world record is on this track 1:19?!
Yes Rapidshare is something of rogue service as it puts little user restrictions, consequently service providers may restrict access to it ( I cannot access it or Magaupload)
Can you change the setup of the cars like you can on Race Driver 3?
I'm sure the world record was done by some people who have too much time on their hands :D
I know, insane. I was just on an awesome lap and went straight through the tires on the last, chicane, gutted.
Very good piece at F1 Fanatic. Australia & Malaysia Technical Review
And because of it's popularity, users tend to download quite a few kajillion gigglybits per month
And it doesn't ask questions about what is being uploaded/downloaded hence its popularity.
What is it with half points? I never see one for 14 years then 2 come in a week.
Whatever site you pluck for, if you're storing races you might want to make the filename a bit more cryptic
I think the copyright owners sweep the search engines for their material
[Even RS have to pull stuff on request!]
Rain in Qatar? I hope it clears up for the big one later
Just done 5 laps and the best I can manage is a 1:30.32. I will never get near a 1:26. How on earth do you manage it?! It understeers quite a bit. You think they would have even a little bit of car set-up option in Grid :(
Do they not have any setup option?? All the previous Race Drivers did :(
You've seen what I'm like online :P
Although I must say my lap I can't get close to now except once every few laps, it's usually 27s for me. My 1:26.13 pretty much caught the apexes and got on the speed coming out of the corners at the right time, i wouldn't say spot on but it was just the right time to get plenty of speed coming out of the corner without worrying about oversteer. The final 2 corners are massive factros too, get them right if you want a good lap time or so I find.
THis one is a really strong mix of arcade and simulation whereas previous games were very sim heavy, so I'm guessing the car setup options was taken out in thought of the mroe casual racing fan.
Man, wish Grid would work on my laptop cos it would be great to compete
Nail on the head. Grid is there for the same audience as DiRT as apposed to the Colin McRae Rally series.
Sure RS responds if their is a request to in the case of copyright material!
The lesson is that copyright material, no matter which service provider is used, can be deleted without user having much control.
Have you seen the trailer for the new DIRT? It makes me want to be sick, totally opposed to what McRae did with the games.
Yeah, it looks awesome. The engine they've built for these games is stunning.
I'm impressed with these Moto GP commentators....great Scolari-ing :D
Plus its coming on PSP so I'm looking forward to that
I'm not faulting the engine at all, Codemasters do an amazing job, but the trailer they put out for it, where you seem to be some kind of rallying ockstar... well, I'm not won over by that.
*rockstar
Have you seen the Planet F1 where Rory Byrne believes that the 'diffuser three' have broken away from 15 years of F1 protocol. Sure he is a FERRARI consultant but still I hope his arguments hold no water.
So the argument is whether a slit is a hole or not!
source: http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5178697,00.html
Yeah, they've got that idiot american rally guy in it. Hopefully he won't feature too heavily.
Really, I cannot handle the F3 cars well at all. If I get under a 1:30 then I'll be pleased,
Chris and Luke, XBL sometime?
Sure, me and Luke are both on at the moment if you both fancy a game? Do I have your Gamertag?
oohh, I'll get online.
GT is Joe the 147.
Just managed a 1:27.08 btw.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img-0010-jpg
Hi all
I wasn't expecting rain in Qatar.
Moto GP clearly have a bit more commercial sense than Bernie. They have streaming video on their website. I decided to sign up for it as you have to register to access it. Once you register they tell you that you have to pay to see the video stream. I have no intention of doing that but you have to wonder how the business genius himself could not have come up with that idea.
Just added you.
Moto GP seems to be as much of a shambles as F1 was when it rains.
and we laugh at nascar for refusing to run?
Thats just pathetic and boring. Moto GP is still better than F1 though
At least motogp and F1 have a go at it in the wet - Nascar refuse to even think about it.
Nice advertising for BMW at the moment..
Shame the car is hideous.
no-one calls it a shambles though? everyone knows where they stand beforehand.
Naffcar on more than one occasion have run races on a monday or tuesday due to rain.
In front of how many fans?
agreed. but people are aware that it's a possibility going in to the weekend. people don't turn up, watch half a race and call it a shambles. which appears to be what's happened to f1 and mpg.
Does it give the image of NASCAR any good when tons of fans turn up and watch no race at all, then the race is run the next day in front of almost noone
don't know? my argument is only that people are slamming f1 and motogp for bad organisation after trying to run in the rain, but the same people criticise nascar for not running in the rain.
kind of expensive to stick a roof on every racetrack in the world.
do the fans not have tickets to come back the next day? i've no idea, just asking.
No idea, but giving the next day would be a Monday, so a lot of people would be at work/school
I can just see them trying that at Monaco or Australia or any other street circuit and being loved.
Closing the street for a weekday.
Monaco is open first thing monday mornign after the race - iirc it's open on the practice and qualifying days after the events.
wouldn't it extend the tourist trade for an extra day? more money = more happiness. they'd be fine about it i'm sure.
It would be nice to start the week with an F1 race though once in a while. Imagine getting up on a Monday morning and instead of the usual Monday morning moans you would have a race to look forward to.
Chaos caused by closing all the city streets on a normal work day - the noise
Plus a lot of people fly home on the sunday night or the monday - so less spectators.
It'd be just like a Wimbledon peoples sunday or monday
Unless you have work/school that day so you have to miss it.
kinda painful for people's ears too...
You only have to miss two hours of it to go to 'the dentist'
Oh yeah, forgot about that 'dentist appointment'
If you're local
it could be a really high roof? :)
If the double and triple decker diffusers get banned I wondered who would gain?
Drivers Championship
1. Alonso 11.5pts
2. Heidfeld 9pts
3. Buemi 8pts
3. Bourdais 8pts
5. Webber 6pts
6. Sutil 5pts
7. Hamilton 3pts
7. Fisichella 3pts
9. Massa 2.5pts
10. Piquet 1pts
10. Vettel 1pts
12. Raikkonen 0.5pts
13. Kubica 0pts
13. Kovalainen 0pts
14. Button 0pts
14. Trulli 0pts
14. Glock 0pts
14. Barrichello 0pts
14. Rosberg 0pts
14. Nakajima 0pts
Constructors Championship
1. Toro Rosso 16pts
2. Renault 12.5pts
3. BMW Sauber 9pts
4. Force India 8pts
5. Red Bull 7pts
6. Mclaren 3pts
6. Ferrari 3pts
8. Toyota 0pts
8. Brawn 0pts
8. Williams 0pts
So STR and Renault really gain. Even Force India would be in fourth position. Why Ferrari are worrying as they still have scored the fewest points of those not excluded.
would the points not be reallocated then?
a giant clown tent?
That's what I thought I did and STR would be leading the Constructor Championship and Alonso the Drivers.
Like a giant umbrella
Its rather an odd looking table. Question, would Buemi have won in Aus?
sorry, my bad. nick would've won a race, but only gotten 5pts. was assuming her should be on 10+.
I believe theres still the 75% rule though - if the drivers don't complete 75% of the distance the winner did - no points.
Could make it stranger.
Bet that would annoy RBR
FIA already use one of them don't they?
STR leading the WCC that is - forgot to quote :P
90% rule is that not
alonso, no?
Yup all drivers are classified if they complete 90%
Would that count as a GP win? Guess the team could claim so.
not a clue. i guess it depends on how the fia choose to call it?
Bikes on the grid - riders in their romper suits
Want James Allen back? Here is a link to a petition...
http://www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/bring-back-james-allen.html
Personally I think his blog is way better than his commentary and he should avoid the narrated photo diary !
No thanks...
163 signatures in 2 weeks. :D
I might sign it as a joke
Be careful with such a joke your wish may come true!
LOL.
MotoGP
All have gone for the soft tyre, which had wear issues this morning and only lasted 12 laps.
The track conditions are worse now than this morning so wear will be heavier, and the race has been shortened to 13 laps. :D
I'll sign it with something, unique
as james allen, maybe?
Has anyone heard anything about the drivers using the moveable wings during the race and if it makes any significant difference? Is it now more difficult to change a nose cone?
My god the bikes are falling all over the place
Done and done, with an added comment saying I, I mean he doesn't want to do it
Is there a 'For 5 minutes I did' petition?
If guess if everyone signed as James Allen I guess it would end the petition
:)
I'm amazed how many love James Allen, I thought like everyone thought he was poor
If you have already forgotten James Allen's commenting this site will remind you...his command of the English language is sure interesting!

Evening all. My sister just sent me a text asking what team Button played for!
One of the Brawn drivers had a problem with it just before the race in Sepang, and they changed the front wing, but i haven't noticed it lengthening the pitstop times or anything..
He plays for Luton on loan from Spurs. Y'know, might not be referring to F1.
lol. I know nothing about football and she knows it, so it's unlikely she meant that.
Just seen this comment
'really missing james allen. Is it just me or does mr legard sound too much like stuart hall?'
...
I think Legard sounds more like Allen if I'm honest
Thanks Lou - I do now recall the changed nose - I think it was Rubens. Still strangely quiet quiet on this front.
Not Allen, Alan (Partridge) :)
It feels strangely quiet for a sunday night :(
More to the point, don't you think he looks a bit like the demon headmaster?
Those eyes.......
There is sod all happening.
I also suspect that me is running around sidepod towers and tidying in a panic. ;)
This looks like fun.
http://www.dotdotdotcomma.com/motorsport/f1/lookalikes/lookalike_menu.php
It has the Jim Rosenthal one that I'd been looking for too.
When Legard said "In the pound seats" I nearly killed myself. I hated James Allen for his constant use of that and I thought I had escaped.
i have one more day :)
apparently f1 is to blame for everything nowadays:
"[The Bishop] pointed out that the morning service which was usually shown on Palm Sunday was "kicked off by the Formula One"
[via]
if you're missing the live show, i may have a demo for you later. no promises tho.
Is that your hardcore gangsta rap demo?
Ooo
have you seen this page pmsl http://www.dotdotdotcomma.com/motorsport/f1/doodles/gallery.php
huh?
Oooh, Borat on Film4 in a minute.
I crave the live show, it aint a sunday without a live show, im currently rocking back and forth in a huddle.
Okay, might not be that bad
i'm missing the live show :( although it is giving me chance to catch up on all the podcasts i haven't had chance to listen to yet... am currently listening to episode 94 :D
As long as it's not James Allen you-tube-esque it'll be cool
I had no idea what you were talking about so I assumed you had recorded a demo with Dr Dre.
Bugs Button, love it!
Or Red Dwarf on Dave.
oh. no, am working on livebroadcasts2.0. tis a bit tricky though.
i am :( i have sunday nights and spc tuned together in my mind and my mind is just lost!
:P
I was going to point that one out but thought Lou might be upset
literally until you guys just said... i forgot it was sunday!
If it is saving us from a constant supply of religion then F1 should be happy to take the blame
Moto GP start delayed due to rain
Big lights and reflections a bit of a concern
meh ;) just don't let Christine see what they did to Franck ;)
ooooops!
Loved this one too http://www.dotdotdotcomma.com/motorsport/f1/lookalikes/72
Just found a moto gp feed on Justin. It's in German and the race has not started but look at the size of the picture http://www.justin.tv/cembafe
Ah those lookalikes, see the James Allen one, XD.
christ!
Clever idea though
Not thats is a clever thing, no, not all.
The James Allen Simulator
http://www.dotdotdotcomma.com/motorsport/f1/jamesallen/simulator/simulator.php
Here are some
"David Coulthard is outpointing Webber's Williams into that corner on every lap. He's really on the bubble!"
"Fernando Alonso is really giving some pain to his race face. He just owns Formula One at the moment."
"Given the chance, Montoya will always blow Ralf Schumacher's straightaway into the weeds."
It makes about as much sense.
Or online at the BBC for those in the UK
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/motorbikes/default.stm
:D :D
"Well, he certainly looks like he'll put some manners on his straightaway, does Jenson Button."
Ack....
The palm sunday service was hived off to radio 4 long wave years ago... Its not been carried by the bbc (other than regionally) since the late 80's when the charter was ammended. And even before that it was part of Songs of Praise rather than general broadcasting.
I can't talk for NI, its always been a bit of an anomoly as far as broadcasting is concerned though.
So many Blade Runner pee-takes. :D
am wondering if the bbc goaded the chap into mentioning formula 1, just so they could squeeze the reference into yet another news article?
Was planning on recording Red Dwarf and watching Moto GP live.
Hmm, at I'll not chop the end off if the race ever does start
"Look at Fisichella! It's no wonder he was so splick-flack on the maximum banana."
"Michael Schumacher truly has got his maximum banana bought and paid for at this circuit."
Lol
BBC NI - almost certainly. Anything to avoid the 'usual' conversation....
This is too much fun, try the build your own driver thingy
"Look at Massa there - totally on the bubble as he tries to have a good groove on that gravel trap"
Kinda sounds familiar especially if it is wet!
I had the head of Herbert and the mouth of Coulthard, easy fun
"Well, he certainly looks like he'll grenade his maximum banana, does Jenson Button."
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/button-doodle-jpg
The Truth of Rascasse, Monaco emerges
"Michael Schumacher is the only driver who can grenade the drop-zone quite like that."
Moto GP cancelled!
Can I guess they won't be going there next year
Oh dear....
oops. what happened?
No Red Dwarf spoilers please, am watching soon
lets say night time isn't the best for a race
That was about the MotoGP.
Heavy rain + night race + bright lights + way too many track reflections
Night race, rain, no race
:D
Just checkin'
Could easily happen at Singapore :(
Exactly what I said could happen before the night race last year.
Nice to be right from time to time. ;)
How gutted would you be if you'd paid to fly out for the opening race for it to be cancelled just before the warm-up lap!
Want Murray back here is the link to a commentary generator
http://www.dotdotdotcomma.com/motorsport/f1/murray.html
"And Michael Schumacher is actually in a very good position. He's in last place."
Too True!
This would have been Ayrton Senna's third win in a row had he won the two before.
Moto GP update
The organisers have announced that re-running the race on Monday is "under consideration", but no decision has yet been made. The teams are currently being consulted on possible solutions.
If the Losail race is not held tomorrow, the 2009 MotoGP season will instead commence with the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi in a fortnight.
A further meeting between the organisers and team managers will take place at midnight local time to decide whether the race will take place on Monday.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74437
Were they reading sidepodcast?
:D
Who doesn't?
If this was Bernie, he'd have waited until 1AM local time to call the race off. They'll race on Monday.
F1: Ferrarsi boss apportions blame everywhere. Almost.
by Mathias Olaf Uncertain
6th Apr 2009
Ferrarsi team boss Stuffand Nonsensicali says the Italian squad's errors in the last race in Malaysia are unacceptable and that the situation must be rectified immediately.
The Sepang weekend was filled with entertainingly costly errors for the so-called scuderia, like Philippino Masseuse missing the cut to go into Q2 on Saturday because the team thought it more advantageous to save tyres, although, to be fair, BBC commentator Martin Bungle was promoting the same strategy at the time. And then there was the gamble to put Jeremi Clarkkinsen on wet tyres early in the race.
Nonsensicali admitted the situation is unacceptable.
"I admit the situation is unacceptable," Nonsensicali told reporters, who then told us. "What we have to do is react immediately.
"The people have to take their own responsibility for things," he went on, begging the question from dotdotdotcomma, had we been there, so whose responsibility was it at Malaysia? If "people" weren't taking their own responsibility, who could possibly be to blame for f******* up so royally?
But it isn't only "the people" who are in the sights of Nonsensicali's scattergun of blame, but also the raving Italian's managers.
"From the management point of view, of course, we have to do an improvement," he said in his impeccable English, "because it is something that we cannot accept any more for the future."
dotdotdotcomma are at pains to point out to Nonsensicali that, while there is no "I" in team, there is an "I" in Ferrarsi*, and he's welcome to follow it at any time with the word "resign".
Source: http://www.dotdotdotcomma.com/motorsport/f1/news/news_menu.php
Considering it has been raining for hours you would have thought the matter would have been considered earlier and the plan announced at the same time as the cancellation.
LOL at "Philippino Masseuse"
It was just starting to spit at -10 mins or so
Goodness me. It's Filipino, not Philippino. That said, Massa would fit right in here. :D
The 125s were stopped after 4 laps because of strong rain.
I thought an earlier race stopped early because of rain.
And of course,
BBC commentator Martin Bungle and Jeremi Clarkkinsen
But there's been a few hours since then and the track had dried out
I'm not sure we're to take the article too seriously ;)
But if one race had to be stopped they should have been considering what the options were if the main race could not start. When it became obvious that the start would have to be delayed they should have finalised the planning and announced it at the time of the cancelation.
I think dotdotdotcomma is going to get a lot of attention. From its news feed.
Formula 1 supremo™ Bernie Ecclescake sees no reason to abandon the move to twilight races, probably because he's so short that the low sun still looked high to him.
Very true, since when has Motorsport been that well organised?
:D :) :D
The final line of the same item may just be my favourite.
"I don't see anything wrong with the start time," he insisted, blinking myopically through his fringe and ill-fitting specs from the comfort of his air-conditioned and tinted-windowed VIP box.
That's brilliant. He won't like that :)
Not sure the FIA would enjoy this either
Source: http://www.dotdotdotcomma.com/motorsport/f1/news/news_menu.php
*cough* Planet F1 *cough* reports that Ralfy boy thinks that the FIA should leave McLaren alone....and this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he drives a Mercedes in the DTM... :D
just playing around here: http://www.justin.tv/sidepodcast

Sidepodpandacam :D
I'm impressed by Panda getting his own graphic
Went quiet
You sound very far away even with the volume at maximum
So is this how its going to work on say like panels?
Is he reading?
going to make that look ever so slightly mental :) love it. :D
O_O
Mr C is having too much fun with this isn't he
Another sidepodcast tag line.
Sidepodcast: Ever so slightly mental
8O
ooh very clear and louder then
loooooouder :D
Can you tell Christine is away? ;)
Even Panda looks upset
Love it
This is a demonstration of awesome!
That 'This is a demonstration...' is getting on me nerves
Sounds gone :(
I wish that Wirecast woman would shuddup!
has Panda been on the red bull he's all fuzzy
I've tried twice and Safari crashed....
Not quite the digest I was expecting but we're still watching! :)
Ah - sound and pandas now....
awesome! :D
:o
*waves at self*
That's very blurry
w00t
thats rather cool
Working in the desktop doohicky
Oh my god I can see Chris comment, not on the doohickey!
Wah hey!
Blurry text
appears to be at half the resolution of the video - scaled up badly.
Firefox likes it though
Screen is blurry
you have 104 unread comments, sucks to be you
out the way silly dish we're trying to read ourselves!
Is it overmagnified?
Haha
If she says 'This is a demonstration of wirecast' I WILL KILL SOMEONE
Safari would render better!
I hear this is a demonstration of wirecast yknow, just a rumour
everyone run for your lives! :)
writing... writing... writing....
It would if it didn't crash!
Ya don't say?
I prefer the panda - panda is in focus.... well compared to the previous screen
Ah I have sound after refresh
Very, very quiet now. Shhhhh!
you've gone mega quiet..
I'd do what lou says, I really would
i can hear a knocking... but not much else...
oh... never mind..
and you're back with the crazy wirecast woman
The mixer cables look like they're coming out of the wirecast satellite dish when the logo appears
aaaaand quiet again :(
Still
1-2-3-4 getting quieter with each number till the sound disappears
You sound like you need chocolate....
Can she not be shut up, if killing isn't an option?
I blame Wirecast woman, she wants to talk over everything!
By paying I'm assume
I think a straightjacket might be more useful
I think this bumps up everyone here at least half a point on the SPC addiction scale
Loud fuzzy noises?
Lots of noise now. like the gain is turned right up
I guess the only way she can be shut up is if someone buys the software so that the demo is not being used.
Something just got very loud
Erm, that requires me to sing.
Lots of background noise now
Oooh - distortion
You were loud then quiet again
Ouch! wish i didn't have my earphones in when that happened...
1-2 good and loud
Second 1-2 can barely hear
You got the washing machine on in the background?
You were too loud and nwo you're too quiet! :P
Very quiet
Tonight!
HELLO very quiet
that was a lot better
Yay!
THAT@S LOUD
Louder and distorting
loud again!
too loud again - lots of noise
fine
A little bit too loud but manageable
Volume good now
Erm, I, er, lost my voice, how terrible
lou's headphones probably just went mad again... ;)
you're okay now.
Turn it back up
my poor ears. ;)
Still lots of background hiss
quiet again when I have it on half volume
Thats much better
At least your drowning out that drone of a wirecast demo
you're fine now but with a very loud fuzzy backing noise
level is better, but line is noisy - like the gain is up too high on the input
Needs some Dolby™
perfect
I can live with it, maybe tone it down a bit
Sounds like a fan running close to the mic
Better
That's getting better .
the next number is 5, we'll get there!!
Sounds fine to me
Gone quiet again now.
not fan noise. SOunds like computer interference. Which has just got worse
OK here
True
Turned it up to 11?
christine is a satellite dish now?
wow. i likes the graphic :)
Live via satellite?
maybe you should try a few hello's on skype?
Sounds like AM radio
Makings of a domestic there. ;)
yes there is background noise
Graphic is good
Do canal boats have satellite dishes?
Still there
Brave thing to say just after he said he was going to record
still got the sound
no the sound is still there
Muted - no change for me here...
sound still there.
sound still there, and that annoying woman
Sound still there
Don't know what you did there - got better
ooh its gone
Oh that was the mute, all gone
maybe they have a demonstration of wirecast
Thats 100% better!
Sound gone now
House boats do, canal boat would have to be continually adjusting
completely quiet now, just the wirecast lady.
i tihnk you may have to deal with that :P
Brave, or stupid...
All sound, even wirecast woman
You're veeeeeeeeeeeeery quiet
Now your'e coming back but a bit quiet
Bloody wirecast woman!
Spoke to soon. Gaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
I know you are saying something but you are sooo quiet
is it me or is Mr C quiet again?
That better not be around next time we meet Mr Wirecast
And you're back to being almost unhearable
A bit?
How about a lot
I can hear 1-2 but it is a long long way away
have you leant on the cable again?
*turned up vista volume*
Much better - still quieter than wirecast woman though
More fuzziness
noise back :(
youre back with sound again
Aaaaah! MY EARS!
Mrs :P
We knows it's a demonstration of wirecast...
Shut the hell up!
This is a demonstration of how to be annoying
I'm talking about the software.
Background sound has gone again
All buzzy interference noise gone. :D
Welcome to the club
:)
Now back
Anyone object to using mrs wirecast the next time someone goes fishing for polar bears?
that woman is starting to annoy now
ooh thats better...
It's working now!
interference still there :(
:D haha
Lots of background noise - but can here me here.
You can see what we're hearing?
Now that's talent
I was planning on using her as a baseball, but thats more original
What can we do about that?
Have another beer!
I'm assuming you are using the mixer?
I'm worried when I sleep tonight I'll hear the wirecast woman in my dreams
Breaking news - Moto GP will be on Monday.
can you shield your Mac with some tin foil?
Ooh, ta
Have you tried switching the Mac off and on again????
:)
Really? I thought the teams said no to Monday.
I'm dreaming about winning a f1 race, the pit radio, first Mario and then my race engineer
'This is a demonstration from wirecast'
:D
Have another beer?
Wirecast, baby, stay cool!
Lost audio for a second or two there
too many toys...
:)
that's great
Can you do a split screen. Half panda half Mac
Apparently so.
Nice fade.
Copymachine - ooooh...
Nice page turn, bit like Mike someone
Did the Charlotte Sometimes video
haha :D
Buzzy gone again
Audio dropped out again
You can't stop now that you have an audience. Do a show
Where did you read Monday?
It's worth it, to stop hearing that annoying and bloomin down right [beep] person from entering my [beep] ears
We have silence
Sidepod Improv
BBC MotoGP site.
or just a chat?
Saw it on the Beeb. The teams may say no, but if Dorma orders it so...
by myself??
Yeah, why not
umm. even with the wireass woman and the hum?
I guess Dorma ordered them to race, in spite of all the problems they'd face rushing to Motegi after?
With the audeince
do it! :D
Err, yeah. Why not?
You have Panda
Moto GP site won't even load. I guess there is too much traffic
Good point, don't bother
you don't need Christine to do a sidepodchat! ;)
And Bibendium?
We still have silence
The opening round of the 2009 MotoGP championship in Qatar has been rescheduled for Monday after Sunday's race was cancelled because of rain.
Full story to follow
BBC page
ooh.... laptop is slowly dying... need to restart it...
You're not missing much
"The opening round of the 2009 MotoGP championship in Qatar has been rescheduled for Monday after Sunday's race was cancelled because of rain.
Full story to follow"
Loads for me.
I think he's gone
I am going to keep watching just in case
Official site won't for me either
:D
i have to sort the audio. i may be back later. not planning on buying the software yet though.
Wallace and Gromit - utter genius!
I eventually got it to load bu it does not say anything about a Monday race. Only that the race has been cancelled
They are what makes Britain Great.
Give us a heads up then as I've killed the page
Watching Matter of Loaf and Death - looks amazingly good in HD
Twit from David Emmett, editor of motoGPmatters.com:
"Some around me are trying to change flights as others saying high chance of rain tomorrow makes redo unlikely"
This running on Monday thing is all or nothing. Either it works brilliantly, or they shoot themselves in the foot again.
Does it not have a big 'Breaking News' box in the middle?
BBC and Twitter confirm it - or at least the probability of it.
MotoGP site is slow to update news.
No
and i'm back, with a considerably calmer laptop :)
BBC reports
The opening round of the 2009 MotoGP championship in Qatar will take place at 1900 BST on Monday after Sunday's race was cancelled because of rain.
Your internet is on a satellite delay then.
Here we go
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/motorbikes/7996183.stm
I was going to say it would be better to do it earlier, but given that the fans would be at work/school
welcome back :D
Finally got hardware accelerated video working on this laptop!
1920x1080 video faultlessly decoding with only 3% cpu time in use. :D
Is that because Windows is using the other 97%?
Not everyone agrees. Some of the drivers don't want to run - http://bit.ly/4ekiVK
:)
Bravo
God, I hate crappy translations on news sites
Does this mean its going to be in the dark again?
Yep. Pretty risky solution if you ask me
If it's 22 hours later, then probably
Average CPU usage is at 5% at the moment.
Finally - damn nVidia drivers... Hate the bloody things.
Was easily 95% without hardware acceleration. Also made a laptop a touch warm on the lap.
Have they learnt their lesson?
It appears not.
Or being 22:00 local, then absolutely
I know that feeling. Thinking of getting the Elgato Turbo H.264 dongle to speed things up as my Macbook Pro doesn't have enough graphics memory to be of any use with Snow Leopard's optimisation using GPU
Should have bought a decent laptop then. ;) :P
Only got 256mb here - not enough for me to play many of my favourite games on full, but it's hard enough to do that on a decent desktop pc.
It's over a year old now, so I'm not too upset.
I like the idea of the dongle though. USB certainly has the bandwidth to handle it. Quick shufti at it and it looks quite a funky thing. Doesn't seem to handle decoding though.
LOL!
Gromit! I've got a bomb in me pants! :D
It's designed for making your video into the right format for iPod/Apple TV, so decoding isn't the aim.
hardware decoding in a dongle would be good. Especially for people with netbooks.
Although my movile play HD movies natively, so it's not a problem. ;)
My typing goes to pot when I'm laughing a lot.
My mobile decives play HD movies natively - also plays anything I throw at them so re-encoding isn't a problem
Thats it - I'm off to bed. Book and music calls.
Night peeps and peepettes. :)
night flibster
Night Flibster
night Flibster
night
night Flibster.
what a strange evening. o.o
Yup. 3-man playoff in the Masters - and none of them is Tiger!
And, yeah, MotoGP going nuts.
Does everyone have Monday off in Qatar?
Not sure Easter is a big thing in the middle east ;)
This is massively intense
it is in certain parts.
I realy can;t be bothered to eat my easter eggs :(
*shares with spc*
you can wait until tomorrow y'know
Save them for me on Wednesday.
awwwww.
Is Europe MotoGP's biggest market? I assume they run the races at tims to suit Europe, just like F1.
Me too :D
are ya coming?
i cant even finish 1, bleh
You tell me. :D They're down to 2, though. :)
Can you send it via e-mail to me please
I meant you, I'm still having to work :(
After McIlroy proved to be a poor pick, I said Campbell would win it. Damn him.
booo.
oh goodness not you guys too! the internet was the only place i could escape from the masters...
Australia & Europe are big but apparently the largest market is...
Indonesia!
http://www.motogpmatters.com/news/2009/01/22/motogp_s_biggest_fan_base_not_where_you_.html
Just ignor us, see, Mr C is talking about booing, I think
Golf needs to go the same way as football here...
Riduculed
THe history of the sport is in Spain, Italy etc
Campbell actually did well to last this long - and he outlasted the Woods-Mickelson surge.
Ah, but at least they don't tackle each other silly here - it's a gentleman's game. :D
oh booing, i like that
Yeah, true that. I'm going Cabrera for the win
I'm with you and Mark Twain on this.
Nah, Perry will hang on. Who'd have thought we'd see a battle of the elders in 2009? :O
Mark Twain? who is that?
But apparently, the raw numbers are in Indonesia. Much in the same way that while Europe has most of F1's history, there are also large audiences F1 is tapping in China, Japan, and India.
Oh dear, Christine?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Twain
Perhaps the Indonesians don't know how to bookmark a site? :-)
He's in a tricky little spot here though
Sigh. Famous american author and wit. He said golf was a good walk spoilt.
He never saw Nicklaus and Woods. ;)
You did not just say that! La La La *covers eyes and ears*
Then don't walk into a golf course then.
Yep, looks like it. Overshot the chip onto the green too.
First Star Wars, then Mark Twain. What next? ;)
And I couldn't agree more.
ooooh right. :)
Cabrera's to lose
He used to drive for Williams. Honest :)
sorry, i'd ask my parents but they are watching the golf and don't really want me to talk to them... so i thought i'd ask ;)
And he's done it.
I told you Cabrera would win it.
lol i'm only 17... i try... honest :)
it's done now. Just the green jacket wearing left. :)
Yup. Kenny Perry must be rueing what might have been. He missed that last putt on the 18th during regulation, by what, an inch? Less?
You are supposed to start reading Mark Twain when you are about 8. He did some good kids books
Huckleberry Finn!
Yeah, kicking himself right now.
I didn;t even know the masters was on until you just mentioned it... oops.
oh...
Too busy playing GTA?
i've heard of it, never read it though...
He held off Woods, he held off Mickelson, he even held off Campbell. But not Cabrera.
:D
Tom Sawyer ?
Live commenting GTA would be.... interesting. Probably a bit too much in terms of content though.
I think of Rush rather than Mark Twain when Tom Sawyer is mentioned. ;)
Hey, we've live commented golf, we can live comment everything.
and we will always help you Lou.
You do try and we love you for it. SPC wouldn't be the same without you! :-)
same, i've heard it, but never read it....
night all.
Online it can be hilarious.
Night Andy :)
night andy
How come I'm approaching 15 and still know these stuff?
See ya Andy
:)
:)
night
shhh!! :P
:D
Maybe Lou had mis-spent her youth more than you ;-)
Good night Andy
I go out, honest.
Goodnight my Vista bashing friend
You are part of our favourite SidePodKid group as well RG. Here's a tip from someone who was a goody two shoes when I was younger - learn to play pool really well and watch a movie called the Color (sic) of Money with Paul Newman and Tom Cruise. Learn to play Piano or Guitar (or both).
:D hehe... i know other stuff... just not about star wars or Mark Twain.... and probably many other films and many other American writers ;) and probably a load of other stuff too :)
I can play pool, thats a good start. I'll note down the rest
i've never seen color of money and can't play pool... but i can play the guitar... kinda...
Ooh. Photography is awesome for mischief as well. Have a tripod, and if possible, lights on a stand.
Never utter the phrase "some guy on the internet told me to do it"
I'm decent at that
That will help
I have it on VHS! (that's a tape system that came before DVD - kind of like how audio cassettes went to CD :D )
:D :D
VHS???
Cass...ettes?
On the subject of things everyone should have done/seen/read, me and my flatmate came to the conclusion today that you are not complete as a human being if you haven't seen Cool Runnings.
so true
:D
Oh yeah, so true indeed
oooo i've seen Cool Runnings :)
I must dig out that reel to reel of War of the Worlds and talk about walking to school in hand-me-downs (no snow here)
oh no!
I take no responsibility for anyone following the links provided on this page:

oh no?
seeing as you've brought it up, i have to dig out my favourite comment of 2009:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/10/daily-10th-april-2009/#comment-250705
no comment will beat that one this year ;)
cool runnings is my all tiem favourite movie :)
Just brilliant
Good man.
I saw that a while ago and fed quite a few links form it into the chat over a week or so.
:D :D
Still funny the 2nd time round. :D
Sadly, I think I have already seen the majority of those.
a friend of mine played a wookie in one of the star wars made in australia. that is all.
Yep, those. They go along with floppy disks. :D
classic stuff, love it!
I can come up with better than that
I couldn't remember if I got that from here or www.mactalk.com.au
Okay, your really losing me here...
I once tried putting theme hospital on a floppy disk when I was really young. Ahh to be naive once again.
I don't think I posted the list just a few of the items. I got it from TWIF I think.
we aren't allowed to even mention floppy disks in our ict lessons... we get shouted at :(
I remember having an entire years project backed up on a floppy disk. They were so damn flimsy.
Theme Hospital! Awww, those were the days. I loved playing Sim City and Civilization around that time too. :)
Why not?
The 3 1/2 one? Or the 5 1/4 one? :D
i laughed for four hours all by myself in an empty house. i went to sleep and woke still laughing. i'm shedding a tear just thinking about it two days later. if you can beat that sir, you should be charging us for your audience.
*melts*
Some of my favourite pc games right there. I'm a sucker for sim/strategies.
Just send money
apparently there is no point in mentioning them as they aren't used anymore and we wont need to know about them for our exam :/
Yep, me too. :D Even went gaga over Command and Conquer - especially Red Alert 1.
3 1/2, I'm not that old!
But they're part of history! We didn't start on CDs and DVDs. :O
:D
now you are talking!
:D
agreed. mind you, so is mark twain, but apparently they don't talk about him either!
Good times. Have the entire series lying around.
There were so many good PC games back in the day. I played Theme Hospital to death. I've just finished playing the remake of Broken Sword on DS too.
Spam to eject on drop.io
Just bought it! No voice acting makes me a sad panda but it's still oh so brilliant.
Bingo! :D Haha! Red Alert 1 easily one of the best games ever. :) Allied or Soviet? :)
:D
Soviet as they were red... :)
WHO put that of Nick on there?
Was considering buying the entire boxset of C&C - it was available here for 20 pounds. But I'm not sure yet if I'll do it. ;)
Haha! Gotta love those Tesla Coils. :D
i don't see it?
Gone now, auto refresh isn't always working btw
Yeah, the lack of voices really hurts the game, especially for people who haven't played it before. I can still hear them all in my head though! "Yes, yes, carpets, yes!"
i'm not putting that on my list!!
i know. i don't like our teacher as it is. tis okay cause the textbook says we need to learn it... so i am ;)
:D
Hola amigos. How we all doing?
Right, I'm off to bed. Night everyone.
You just missed the most intense end to a golf match in a while, and we live commented it.
Well, when I say we, more like 2 of us and the rest took the mickey
hey sean. reminiscing on command&conquer, as well as floppy discs and theme hospital.
Night chris
see ya chris.
Quite rightly so!
G'night Chris
night mr awesome grid racer
Oi. It was greatly uncalled for.
Ah, Command & Conquer, I remember that game. Twas a great game too.
*googles command and conquer*
oh shoot.
lou, best game you ever played from yesteryear?
Is it me or is the latest version of tweetdeck ruddy awful? Chrashes 10 or so times a day for me
all good for me. have you tried seesmic desktop? replacement for twhirl, but you have to ask for access.
:D sorry...
i never really played computer games.. i played the sims... and a few games on my playstation one
.... i kinda feel like i've been living in another world to everyone else..
Man I have such an urge to play monkey island after all this classic gaming talk...
"you fight like a dairy farmer!"
Oh please don't persudae me.
monkey island... now there's a game.
ps1, sooo, sonic?
I'm Guybrush Threepwood, ghost busting stud!
kinda.....
sonic wasnt on the ps1 you silly man!
megadrive ;)
what else was on ps1? wipeout? or the crazy fox guy?
oops. what was ps1 then?
ps1 was all about Crash bandicoot wasn't it?
erm.. tombraider?
Crash, spyro, metal gear, final fantasy... all that jazz :)
Meh, N64 was FAR greater imo.
Early versions of Wipeout
i was never into games when i was younger... but from what i remember i played a lot of crash bandicot... spyro a strange dragon thing... and lots and lots and lots of V rally...
w00t! Sonic! :D But no, he was on Sega Genesis, not Sony PS1.
Over here, it was called Genesis. :)
Final Fantasy. :)
I played too much on Wipeout I think.
Yep, those. :D
but megadrive sounds so mega
....drive
I remember playing Nigel Mansell World Championship on the Genesis/Megadrive waaaay back. My first exposure to F1. And a fun game too. :D
But Genesis was great. It was the beginning of something new. ;)
It's really strange that a racing game I used to play loads and love as a youngster turned out to be inspiration for a Muse song that I love now (as well as the band of course)...
I think I had F1 2000 on the PS1, considering i have no recollection of watching f1 in 2000, im impressed in myself
Which song?
Hahaha! That was the last great F1 PC game EA made. :)
i have F1 2001... i think... and yeah i wasn't really following f1 then either :)
We can go further back! Donkey Kong, anyone? :D
I don't think it was by EA actually
top gear on the nes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFucmKJEV9g
bliss by muse:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrROiUNwgCM
on a ye olde arcade machine (10p a game), yup.
Sure? Who made it then? I remember it being EA because they've been selling repackaged versions of it as discounted prices here.
Didn't you have Nintendo's Family Computer (Famicom) there?
neo geo?
Well, nice recolecting with you, I think Theme Hospital is now on the PSP store, so I might buy it. Night.
enjoy! Rg to the psychiatry please!
night :P
Night.
i remember playing donkey kong in a pub, whilst senna and mansell were racing on the tv in the background. i really have no idea what year that was though.
see ya r.g.
Haha! Most of them are reselling those older games now for the PSP. Sega even has a package of 30 old games (including Sonic 1-3 + Knuckles) for the PSP.
Jerez 1986, maybe?
not one particular race, just generally.
lou's just reminded me of one of the best and most addictive pc games ever...
...rollercoaster tycoon!!
night RG :)
i think christine will be annoyed to find she's come back and missed this conversation.
haha :D is she an rct fan then?
I could spend hours on that just making parks, and not even in the 'ill end this rollercoaster so everyone flies off' way!
that and similar games. i think she's also a big ps1 geek, but i could be wrong.
:) we can always have to conversation again ;) did christine like all the games that i've had to google tonight? (aka the ones you guys have been talking about)
honestly no clue.
:D we'll have to ask her when she gets back then :)
moon patrol anyone?
i've just noticed i have a tendency to use way too many smileys in a sentence. sorry about that.
random funny link:
Craig from Melbourne - FasterLouder.com.au
oooh, was that atari?
Giggles II - the giggly girl
Apple II puhleeese!
oh. i think i mighta played it on the atari that took cartridges.
I remember the first game we ever got was space invaders. what a cliché. I'm sure we made Dad buy it for himself for father's day. Poor man.
It was made by Atari. Those were the days (sigh)...
that.is.much.awesomeness.
:D
According to the news link on that site, he;s copied someone from New York that did the same thing.
loved the cupcake reference and the time machine one. 'this isn't the movies you know!'
There were two versions of the game actually, one by EA, and one by a company I don't remember.
EA and Sony had the F1 license at the time.
bernie is such a tart.
For Sale - This Lamppost
You may need a spade
:D :)
surprised he never threatened to sue for using F1 in their name ;)
Although this worries me now he's fussy about it with codemasters game...
Don't worry, they'll be fine... assuming they can get it released ASAP.
They've already got over the Hamilton licensing issue which pleases me, I remember when f1 97 had 'Driver One' for jacques Villeneuve... things like that annoy me, even if it was Villeneuve :P
had no idea they had issues. did hamilton request more money or something?
They had licensing issues with Hamilton? I remember the NBA gamemakers having licensing issues with Michael Jordan in the 1990s. :D
He signed a deal with EA last year... for no apparent reason it seems as nothing has been annoucned in a year plus if EA dont have the F1 license nothing will be official. But they had his name in the same way in 1997 another company had the rights to Jacques name with his own game and they refused to let Psygnosis use Jacques name.
But obviously a deal has been agreed to allow it as Codemasters confirmed it :)

EP1 of the The F1 Show with Clive James, from 1997
ahh cheers.
what the heck is this?
remember those VHS tapes we were talking about?
Back at the beginning of the ITV coverage, they had a special primetime show all about F1. It was hosted by Clive James, who did great work voicing over the F1 Season Reviews of 1982 and 1986.
:D
this.is.genius!
I really want tow atch it but the VHS quality of skipping and images cutting out is so annoying!
I'm not watching, just listening. That's still annoying, but not quite as annoying.
f1 racing just got a shout out!
Clive's bit on Katayama was genius! :D
Yep.
i had no idea hill had a sense of humour.
didnt you see his acting shine through on his legendary pizza ad?
sarcasm doesnt come through so well on text... hmm.
:)
i want more, journeyer, is there a part 2?
oh wait. i found it!
schumacher is wearing a kimi cap.
as in too big for him?.... or a red one?..
square. not curved.
journeyer, i loved that. thank you so much. unexpected, but brilliant.
oh... not good.
Agreed.
You're welcome. :D Found it by accident, really, but when I saw Clive, I knew it would be brilliant. :)
That was really funny and very good to watch :) Young rubens!
agreed i've just finished watching it :) all the drivers appear to get on pretty well, we don't see that any more. we need a program like this again....
anyways, it's getting really really really late and i should have been in bed ages ago. so i'll say g'night ;) x
see ya lou.
heading off now as time seems to go a lot quicker than i realise... already nearly 3am!
night everyone :)
Night Lou and LUkeh.
see ya luke.
Most drivers still do get on pretty well. Alonso, Kubica, and Trulli are been good friends, and I think they're starting to get along well with Massa. ;) Lewis and Nico are good pals, too, as are Heikki and Kimi.
Good night Brawn folks. :D
Ayt, time for breakfast. Later. :D
catch ya later sir.
See ya.
how to make a record (for lou):
Sidepodcast educational program?
You can see why records don't sound as good as more modern media.
I just went F1 shopping. How easy it is to spend money when one is F1 shopping.
F1 shopping? What did you buy?
2 books, a coffee mug and a picture for my wall :D
Cool. Which books did you buy?
To Finish First by Phil Kerr, and one called "Formula One in Melbourne: The First 10 Years" that apparently came out in 2005 but I'd never seen it before.
Interesting. Never heard of either before. :)
There is some fantastic photos in the Melbourne book, but it really does emphasise how tiny the crowds are now compared to what they were in the early part of the decade. They don't put up half the grandstands now, and they certainly don't helicopter in yachts so the lake looks good anymore!
A lot of the grandstands that don't exist anymore are in good spots. I'd buy tickets for them if they were still around!
This morning I had to swab the decks. Always thought it sounded exciting but actually just involves a mop.
You could have enlivened it by making pirate noises, perhaps...
How extraordinary. That game gave me my break: I was the production assistant on a PC mag and wrote a review of Theme Hospital to fill some space. The publisher liked it enough to give me a full-time writing job instead...
Swab the decks, matey! Arg! Shiver me timbers! :D
Exactly! :D
Wow... How did you get into F1, then?
Hello again everyone.
Hey Sean. No one else here yet, I think.
Ugh - bad headache.
I hate headaches.
Who likes them? ;)
Not the best way to end my vacation. I start working from home tomorrow. :(
Better than working from an office. ;)
I start doing that on Thursday. :D But still, work is work. :(
True. At least your getting paid though.
True. Then again, I wouldn't wanna work if I wasn't getting paid. :D
It's why I don't have a job, no one wants to pay me.
What course did you take up in Uni?
I'm doing a Bachelor of Arts.
I see... Hmmm... Which major?
Atm, I don't have one. I'm taking subjects in a few different areas to see where it leads.
Stupid Batracer. I fail to see how a lap can be "Excellent" if I "Almost spun" :(
Where did you qualify?
I see. Good luck with that. :)
15th - last in Q2 by some margin. My team mate was 4th in the same session with his own "Excellent lap"
15th eh? One spot ahead of me...
Cheers. We'll see.
...Its on buddy! :P
Well, the thing is you see, I always set the 'push harder when behind this player' to the person that qualifies one spot ahead of me...;)
That's it, the boating is over. Now in the car on the way home. Definitely getting withdrawal symptoms from SPC now.
Awww! :) We were talking about Rollercoaster Tycoon last night. Does it ring a bell? We were talking about old video games. :)
Absolutely! I was more a fan of theme park though.
Theme Park and Theme Hospital were the best.
Awww, shame you weren't around last night! :D We were talking about old video games - and which ones are being sold again. ;)
How can you prefer theme park over RCT?? unless you like the ride on bit?! slthough RCT3 has that :)
I guess I just had more access to Theme Park than RCT, haven't played any of the more recent iterations either.
Anyone who has a Wii should get Broken Sword, it's just been re-released and it's one of my favourite games of all time.. Can't reccomend the DS version quite as much though, there are no voices on it and it just isn't the same without them.
fair do's :) they were both pretty fun.
i loveed theme hospital when you had to pop peoples heads when they got bloated :D
How annoyed should I be that the sun has come out and there are blue skies now my holiday is over?
Just checked BAT racer, on the second row in my torro rosso!
British weather for you right there. :D
Did anyone catch the motogp race last night, in Qatar. 5 minutes to race time, and everything was fine. The 5 minute warning went up, and within about 2 minutes, it poured. I could have sworn that Bernie must be involved....
Haha! Some said it was those folks at SBK that were behind it. ;) Whoever it was, it hasn't faced Dorna - they'll try running the race tonight, 7 PM BST.
Fazed, rather. ;)
:D
I'll be watching again, I hope, depends what my tv station wants to do.
Morning chaps
Yeah, doubt there is much on tonight anyway. Would have thought rescheduling it during the day would have made more sense.
Fingers crossed, we'll see it live this time. I think it was slightly delayed yesterday. The fact that it starts earlier helps me as well. :)
And look like they're admitting fault? No way that would happen!
Morning RG, they've been training under lights for 2 days so they have to keep it as close to the same conditions.
But if they can race at night, surely they can race in the daylight? Besides, day races have been held at Qatar before, and everyone on the grid have raced on those dry races at some point (125, 250, or MotoGP).
Morning everyone
:( thats a shame. Hope you had a good time though nevertheless!
probably an issue with the heat - I think it's one reason the race is at nighttime.
Oh god don't get me going again after last night's discussion :D
Wait for Christine to come back, then get going again. ;)
Morning.
Fantasy Racers:
Do I get Kubica? And if I do, do I drop Kimi or Nico?
Hmmm...
Ugh - I'll just wait for the diffuser hearing tomorrow and decide based on how that turns out.
Yeah but it would be alot warmer during the day, so issues with tyres - setups, some teams were saying they wouldnt have enough fuel left to do another warm up and a race.
If i were a betting man, i'd put my future life earnings on them being classed as legal
Good point - but surely, if they were gonna do a rerun, they'd want to AVOID the rain? If it rains again tonight, they're gonna look silly for wanting to rerun at night.
Good piece of advice. I'll be waiting too.
yup, that's what i thought. but this is the FIA, so you can never be sure.
And be quick about it. I'm sure many others will be thinking the same thing, so the prices may fluctuate.
I think that's the slogan for F1 for the whole year...
Yes, on history he is a finisher that has been unlucky this year. He and Alonso are going very cheap.
Have they changed BATracer so you only get 1 warmup lap now or something?
Yup, that's why I'm leaning on getting him. Who I'd drop to get him is the trickier bit.
Alonso, I'm a little less certain on. That car just looks anonymous right now, and it doesn't like it'll improve much compared to the BMWs and Ferraris around it. I say Nick at 7.3 is a better deal than Alonso at 7.0.
Who do you have? I had Adrian and Rubens and I swopped them for Fernando and Robert
I have the Brawns, Jarno, Kimi, and Nico. If the diffusers are declared legal, I'll drop Kimi for Robert - Kimi just isn't motivated enough. If they're declared illegal, on the other hand, I'll drop Nico - I don't see Williams coming back from that kind of setback, with their limited funds.
Ferny is not likely to win but the KERS on the start is fairly awesome. Nick looks out of it this season.
2nd at Sepang may reignite his form. He's also finished every race for who knows how long now - that's a points guarantee, right there.
Big question is: what time will we find out the verdict? Will we even find out tomorrow, or will we have to wait?
You've only ever been able to get 1 warm up lap?! Thats all ive had over the last 3 races
Kimi has eventually joined into the spirit of things at circus ferrarius - so he would be my choice.
You used to get 4 or 5 laps before the 2009 season was made, just seems a littls strange
The decision will probably be held over to a three week "quiet patch" on the calendar :( Joking aside, I hope it's quick and we can get on with things. I think it will be legal.
Yup, he's my primary choice too. But it's a good thing I held onto him longer - I almost let him go before Sepang. He and Robert may be both on 0 points, but Kimi's done more laps, and that's helped my score.
We won't have any 3 week quiet patches, I think - with the late season start. ;) I really hope they make a quick decision.
Maybe it's because of the new regs? Just a guess.
Yeah possibly. Just another thing to moan at the FIA for ;)
I like Nick and for many years was my number one driver, he is a really nice guy and very smooth and technical as a driver. Makes the most of wet conditions and race confusion, but personally he has grown into the role of Cinderella that does not get to the ball or even get to met his fairy godmother.
Remember it is not good to keep a driver who is declining in value as it reduces your choice. So it is not just points scored. The trick is to buy low just before a race where the driver is expected to do well.
Oh dear Sutil - thats something you really shouldn't have said... however funny it is. :D
Well, good point there, but it's still the scoring that counts - not to mention Robert had a higher value pre-Sepang too. :D
Which one?
Surely he has to win sooner or later... right?
How often does a BMW retire though? That is why to invest him just now.
"I have no idea how he (Hamilton) has got so many punishments. Slowly you start to ask yourself why it always happens to him. Is it his skin colour?"
:D
No, he is somewhat arrogant and makes more racing mistakes than most other drivers and attracts too much attention to himself. Even if Hamilton were to move teams he would still attract controversy. The public might be taken in with his recent sorry statement but remember Hamilton could not admit to his error at Canada when he went into the back of Kimi's car in the pitlane.
*runs and hides and dons hard hat*
But then most people think he is very similar to Schumacher. If that were the case, why is Hamilton getting much more punishment?
It's not the color of his skin, but the color of his car, that is going against him.
After Moto GP last night and the Sepang wetness we saw last weekend.....
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74445
*clears throat*
ahahahahahahahahahaha
that is all :D
Has no one learnt the lesson about night racing then?
Of course not...
so much for listening to Rossi, then. ;) does that mean the recession is over? they just didn't push through with it this year because they lost their government funding for it.
I agree he is no worse but Michael also got his fair share of penalties and remains tarnished. Basically because of the higher stakes drivers from Prost, Senna onwards have pushed the envelop of sporting fairness. Consequently rules have had to be increasingly strictly enforced. I am not saying there are no biases and FIA is always fair. Considering Lewis (with his team) accused another team of cheating to gain points (and the team did not cheat) he was lucky to just loss his points in Australia. Bearing false accusation againster a competitor as the reigning World Champion could get you stripped of your tittle in other sports. The FIA has been stricter with other people: e.g. Thomas Enge losing his F3000 championship because he failed a marijuana test (he also proclaimed innocence).
woahwoah. you cant honestly compare someone who lied and someone who took drugs?! Thomas Enge deserved to loose his title, drugs give you performance advantages!!!!
Sorry? marijuana gives you a performance advantage?
Only if they tell you that you can have a whole pack of mars bars at the end of the race...
Read series info ;)
i have no idea about different drugs, but taking an illegal substance is just plain against the rules, thats a clear cut judgement.
Lewis was told to lie, and yes he should have known better, but Dave is a trusted senior member of the team, if she says something to you, you trust him that its the right thing to do. Of course it was wrong in hindsight, but i think it should all just get left alone.
I was talking to a friend last night about F1 and he said to me "you never know who's wont anymore, 'oooh look he's won, but actually he's get DQ'd and the guy in 6th place will win'" which is so true, lets just leave it, and get on with racing. any other sport and i'd have given up with it because of the intervention of the FIA, but for some reason im sticking with F1, but if we keep getting to a place where we dont know who's won, then i cant say i have the patience to stick with it much longer
*HE
And how about fraud?
im not saying its not clear cut, but it was a 1 race thing, it got dealt with and now we should just move on.
if someone cheats the whole way through a championship (Through drug abuse) then thats clear cut too.
i just want to get out of the mind set that its ok to mess about with the results, i hate it.
It saddens me their appearance in front of the WMSC is still 2 weeks away because I'm so sick of hearing about it
exactly!
You and me both Amy.
I would like it noted I once lapped Brazil in under a minute in the EA version :D
I can assure you a can of Red Bull is more likely to be performance enhancing than marijuana, similarly a double espresso. It is just that we have Victorian attitudes towards certain substances. Sorry I think this lie is far worse as the advantages gained by a team where more significant. Sure steroids taken by an athlete is wrong, not so much the substance, but it provides unfair advantage - viz is cheating. If the Macca's deceit had not been picked up, can you honestly saying there was no unfair advantage?
of course there was an unfair advantage, and it got picked up, and now its been dealt with. but you think mcclaren getting banned for a few races (and let us not forget that Heikki had no place in this debarcle but he'll get punished for the rest of the teams actions) is good for the sport?
Firstly there was only tested once and Thomas claims he had no knowledge of taking the substance. All it takes is for someone to give you a piece of herb cake unknowingly and you are tested at the wrong time!
If you applied this (marijuana test) to professional soccer players - most of the field would be excluded. In Rugby you get a warning and repeated cases will get you expelled from matches.
Macca/Lewis committed fraud - there is really no denying this. His sorry statements have saved him further punishment but I think he has given the FIA more rope with which to hang the team.
Sorry I have never actually said they should get banned from races, but to falsely accuse another team of cheating is hardly good for the sport.
Matt Stevens was tested positive for cocaine but he got sacked from Bath and given a two year ban for playing in rugby.
I did specify marijuana and punishment is not consistent even in soccer. Please I am not say it is right to take such substances, I am just saying it is perceived by our society to be more criminal that it really is.
this is true, but through the WMSC/Appeal court he was found to have taken it intentionally.
just because it happens it dosent make it right!! and football players over here have drugs tests and get banned for such uses of them.
and the FIA are going to hang the team, but are you saying its right? are you saying that we shouldnt know if mcclaren are going to be racing in spain? i want to be able to switch the tv off at hte end of the day and know who's won the races, this applys to the lewis/mclaren/trulli thing and it applys to the diffuser row. im sick of protests and hearings, they ruin the sport
2004 - Rio Ferdinand got banned for 8 months and fined £50,000 just for missing a drugs test
you think thats not consistant?
in 2005, Middlesborough footballer Abel Xavier got an 18 month ban for failing a drugs test...
im confused as to how you think drugs testing and failure are not consistant in football?
uh oh. christine's back. house not tidy. daily post coming shortly. oops.
BUSTED!
hehe.
Have you been playing with
'This is a demonstration of WireCast'
all day?
to quote when you get caught in primary school...
ommmmmmmm
i also love the fact that instead of cleaning up, or writing the daily post, you decide to tell us instead :P love it
http://msn.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5182869,00.html
Hhmm...........
:D
i only just woke up.
The Dog ate the Daily Post
Cant see it happening at all
I hope not anyway :(
Also, is it me, or is it quite ironic, that its partly lewis's fault, but he can get away to another team. love it :D lol
It really is their word against his, not easy to prove.
In context, recreational drugs that have no performance enhancing effects, are fairly innocent. As a value judgement for me it is much less than commiting fraud. Their use is forbidden under sporting codes and therefore they should still be punishable - I just think for Thomas it was severe.
We think lies are not much, but when used by governments they have been used to justify occupation of other countries. Lies, need to be individually examined in the context of what they initiated.
To conclude I think Lewis is a poor role model for F1 as the reigning World Champion. He has consistently given out contradictory statements and when in the wrong has failed to take responsibility.
I know.
I think it'd just confuse lou as well, jenson and lewis at the team she loves... one driver she loves, one driver she doesn't... hmmm :P
Eh? Rubens knows his days in F1 are numbered. But why would Ross go for Lewis if he can save money by getting a Bruno Senna?
It was a sarcastic "Hhhmm".
oh dear...
Which bit of you will be in plaster on wednesday? ;) :D
Definatly, plus I think Rubens has got a great partnership with Jenson anyway. Why ruin that
News of the World? Ha! :P
But wait - they exposed Max. Hmmm...
lies are very bad, and very serious. but he's been punished, after a stunning drive in Oz he got DQ'd, dave ryans been sacked, end of story in my opinion..
He appologised? From the video i saw, he was almost in tears, i believed every word he said. From my point of view, this should be the end of it
This is Rubens' Indian summer. If Brawn do well this year and Ross starts looking towards the long-term, he'll have to get some young talent sooner or later.
Not-so-related topic: Mentioning Ross' name, I realize he hasn't been knighted yet. Then again, neither has Ron Dennis. When do you think either of them will be knighted?
That may save Lewis. But did we get any statement from the team? Did Martin Whitmarsh apologize? Is the story he mentioned in his apology true?
F1 people in general take alot longer than most to get knighted, so im betting a while longer :P
If Ross doesn't get a knighthood for some of the stuff he's done in Formula 1 then it's a damn shame, if anyone deserves it personally it's him. Ron has provided plenty of his life to formula 1 too but I just think Ross should get it more, I can see both getting one eventually.
. Rubens has a contract with the team and Brawn has already made it clear that part of the reason they decided to stick with Rubens at the beginning of the year was because of his experience. They wouldn't break the contract with him just to give Lewis a drive. meh i can't see it happening.
I don't think Martin Whitmarsh should apologise frankly, he didnt play any specific part in it, he wasnt the one who lied
Sir Frank didn't take very long, did he? Neither did Sir Jackie. Sir Stirling, admittedly, did take a while.
haha :) it wont happen.
But shouldn't he take command responsibility for letting it happen? Similar to how government or business works?
I think the queen only watches F1 at certain times :P
hehehe
I think she watched the first-ever F1 race, right? I think she's also visited a couple of British GPs since then.
:D
Surely drugs and 200mph is a bad combination. I can't imagine there would be a performance advantage anywhere other than in his own mind.
I can see her now watching tv...
'And in which position did one's favourite driver Lewis Hamilton finish?' :D
In government they make someone a scape goat. It's like the recent honours scandals, or the fact that certain members of parliaments husbands use public money to do certain things....and then Gordon Brown appologising.
That would never happen
No worse that Michael. Well he hasn't rammed anyone. He hasn't parked his car to stop others setting times. He hasn't been found with illegal software on the car. He is not close to being as bad as Michael.
haha, awesome, didnt know that. i wish she'd have watched yesterday's Moto GP....
"that fellow, Scott Redding...whats that on his face, is it a moustache, he should shave it off....oh and whats with all this rain and lights"
:D
He is a lot like Michael with controversy though.
Hahaha! :D
I think if Lewis has along way to go before he reaches Michael standards.
:D
I am sure that one day these things will be dealt with quickly but not while Max is in charge
Yes, but he hasnt had as much of it. He's only done a few things that could be considered controversial i think. Michael did looooooots
He's had an faster start, though - if we're talking about controversy, Lewis is ahead of Michael on pace.
I wonder who the Queen actually supports...
Maybe its Toyota, explains why she doesn't give many people an honour in Formula 1
He was disqualified maam, for being an idiot :P
:D
The thing with the WMSC is, it's not easy to convene them. They have to go to Paris just to convene. Scheduling that, and allowing them time to travel, does take time.
He's also gone straight into a top car, michael worked his way up (kinda). Bigger team, more press. If this was happing to Sutil i bet we wouldnt care half as much
Clean your mouth of that filthy word! :P
You don't think someone driving a car when he has taken some substance that affects the clarity of his thoughts is slighly more dangerous than anything anyone says in a room travelling at zero mph?
Sorry but Martin did actually give a statement only to have say its content was incorrect and that he had not done his homework.
He is either hugely incompetent or he lied you can choose.
Sutil's remark earlier may allow us to notice him at last.
But then, he shouldn't get punished for incompetence, right?
Can you link me to it? I havent seen anything
So who actually sees Rubens going on beyond 2009? I think we'll end up hearing in September or so that he'll retire after this season personally, and I do wish he goes on for another year but I just have a feeling it'll happen. Which be a shame because Jenson and Rubens are fantastic teammates and he just about got into 2009 thank goodness. If Brawn do replace him maybe he'll have a year with Toro Rosso and change his name to Seb Barrichello..
I totally agree, if he wasnt told about what happened, and he was lied to, thats not his fault.
Footballers get tested all the time. Any professional sportsman is responsible for what they take in. I have a mate who was a karate international and he would spend forever checking what was in anything he ate before he would eat it.
Also we have established that racing drivers can tell lies and drug cheats in every sport under the sun tell lies.
2010 is the latest i see him staying
I'd like to see him keep racing.
Not me. But if he retires at least he'll get a good reception at the end and probably win a race as well.
Remember Alan Baxter the olympic skier? a few olympics back he used one of those vic sprays for his nose because he had a cold, he was stripped of his medal because it had a substance in it that wasnt allowed.
Depends how the rest of his season goes. If he continues to run around with the front with Jenson, then I could see him staying. But if he has a lot of races where he's hitting anything moving or makes costly mistakes, then he'll retire.
Yeah it's nice he should go out with the recognition he deserves when he does now. Like I said over the winter it was sad when ti seemed he'd be going with no thanks.
I'd like to be wrong, but i think his (attempting at) championship winning days are over, he makes a great number 2 though
He'll retire after this season, especially if he does well.
I've gotta say - Jenson ends up being great friends with his teammates - like Jacques and Rubens. He's good at that. :D
personally i think it depends on this season and any discussions he may have with the team. If he is still on top form, and battling for the championship, cause you know anything can happen :), and he has a seat with the team and they are happy to renew his contract then obviously he will stay. I think if they come to the decision they wont be, they will let him announce his retirement (if that's what he wants to do), so it looks as though it was his choice. But i'm not sure i can see him getting a drive somewhere else, unless Renault sack Piquet and want an experienced driver to take his place ;)
They have sacked their sporting director and stated that he was entirely to blame and have exonnerated Lewis. Case proved. McLaren as a result are almost certainly in breach of contract.
Woop, its good to have Steven on my side :D makes arguing my case a whole lot easier :D :D
But that's the thing: was it REALLY incompetence? Or was it a lie? That's what the WMSC want to find out.
Cos Lewis is the best driver on the grid. Because it could lock in Mercedes. Because he will pull in losts of sponsorship. Because he will find out how good Button is. Imagine what happens if Button blows Lewis away.
Yup. But does Lewis want to leave? That is the question. If he does decide to leave, I don't think he'll have a problem finding a team to move to. But who can McLaren get to replace him in such a worst-case scenario?
No chance of either of them ever being knoghted
Didn't he have a feud with Jacques?
Driver swap? although Lewis will only move if its a substantial ban
:D
Happy thoughts
...with a price. Unless Mercedes pay for Lewis' salary, I don't see Ross taking him on - quite frankly, he doesn't need to.
Would be better if he can get a good potential young gun like Bruno Senna or someone else on the cheap and build him from the ground up.
Now I'd like to see that pairing.
I thought he rammed Kimi at Canada. I seemed to remember Senna doing a few shunts.
He (together with Alonso) used a car that could have had illegal IP to contest a championship.
Schumacher has a tarnished record, he basically cheated and the history books will record that he was more successful than he was great.
FIA needs to move on from this and clean itself up. The Schumacher days are best forgotten (I couldn't stand the guy!).
Lou cries with happiness, thats what happens
haha
Compared to the likes of Redgrave and Pinsent who were knighted as soon as their feet were dry they all took a very long time.
He used to, at the start of 2003. But as the season progressed, they became good friends. I believe Jacques regularly talks to Jenson now, even when they were driving for other teams.
And that swimmer girl, British one, name escapes me. Won 2 gold medals at her first olympics and was knighted
Really? Not even Ron Dennis? Did Spygate kill his chances?
You can say that about Max (his scandal) and Bernie (his mess with the Labour donations). But not even Ron?
that would be very good and all that... but i still maintain that if Mclaren are suspended or whatever Brawn will not sack Rubens for Lewis. At the end of the season maybe, but not mid season.
Rebecca Adlington
id like to see the clause that Brawn would use to get rubens out, he's not under performing, and hasnt bought the team into disripute, so it would be interesting. but it wont happen.
thats the one :D
haha to be more accurate it would be - lou explodes with happiness ;)
I laugh that the article says Rubens would be easily paid off to leave.. If theres any driver that is there for the love of racing and not the money I'd have to say Rubens.
or just lou explodes lol
Seems odd that suchan environmentally aware organisation feels the need to fly everyone to Paris for these things. Especially as they all sit in silence and Max is the only person who speaks.
lol that too ;)
Well, we all KNOW that, but they have to maintain a semblance of a decision-making GROUP, not individual. Which is why they still fly to Paris.
Max flying them in also helps him curry their patronage for votes.
Rubens is pretty well-off now. He's not in it for the money anymore at this point in his career. :D
Paint the planes green, sorted. Eco friendly :)
I just want to say, I would rather not see Lewis at Brawn. I certainly hope Rubens sees the season out. Yes Jenson is going to get the upper hand - he is in the groove so to speak and I for one want to see him World Champion this year. Give him a good car and he becomes the smoothest, most stylish driver in the field.
Even better, a green stripe down one of the wheels
I can't see Lewis leaving. Whatever happens this year the odds are next year and subsequent years McLaren/Ferrari will be back at the front with maybe a couple of others Now is not the time to move.
Who can McLaren get? Pedalo, Paul di Resta, Rubens
Aaah i like
Who is McLarens reserve driver? Is it Pedalo?
agreed. look at the mtc versus brackley. do honda even have a simulator?
It isn't going to happen but imagine the position it puts Brawn in if he bursts the Lewis bubble.
Ross needs to lock down his 2010 budget while the going is good.
Obviously Rubens wants to end his career on a better note that what the Honda was able to give him last. In my book Rubens still has some life left (not like DC and Fisi).
Honda don't have a simulator, Brawn do though. Jenson spent a lot of the winter in it apparently.
There is a difference between running into someone through lack of concentration and setting out to ram them like Schumacher and Senna did.
I think if Lewis was to go to Brawn it would destroy any credibilty he has, lie-gate fiasco aside. To run to the fastest car on the grid coincides too nicely with the fact the McLaren this year is not a contender.
where? that could be interesting.
what will the yellow stripes do for lewis' cool image though.
Except Lewis said it was not a mistake! I heard him say this with my own ears.
match his helmet :D
eh?
that would be the worst colour clash of all time, wouldn't it?
i think you need your ears testing then.
oh but it would be initially funny. but then yes, appauling lol
yellow, green, blue and flourescent.... oh my
wouldn't there also be a problem with virgin being a mobile company and vodafone being a mobile company? if lewis manages to extract himself from mclaren, can he do the same from vodafone?
i swear they have a simulator, I remember Jenson referring to it alot... saying that he may not have had a lot of track time but he had done a lot of simulator work... no idea where it is though. i assume at the factory?
that would make telling the two drivers apart difficult.
His company was on the receiving end of the biggest fine in sporting history. We all know it was bull and that there is far more evidence against Renault and Toyota for the same offence and that this sort of thing has gone on as long as cars have been raced bit the people on the inside are more interested in protecting the system than rewarding achievement. They will do whatever it takes to prop up the system. It's the same people who are pushing through reforms so that women have the same rights to the throne as men. Apparently its about increasing equality. The fact that it is equality within one family seems to be irrelevant.
Vodafone are a team sponsor though arent they? So he'd be fine, i don't think Lewis does have any personal sponsors
Personally Lewis should stay with Macca and face the current music. Macca will get on top of their problems and Lewis stands to regain some respect. By moving to another team will actually hide his talent as it could be said he won because he was in the best car. I have to say Kimi and Felipe Baby have rather more to worry about. Ferrari just look hopeless as a team this year.
do you have a source? website? you tube link?
I'd be really interested to hear it, but if he'd said that the FIA would have jumped on him
i thought there was a big fuss that mclaren, for the first time allowed a driver to take personal sponsorships. ron wouldn't let schumi, but he did let lewis?
Unless he has a clause guaranteeing him a seat for the full season it could be easier than you think to get rid of him. Given that Brawn did not have a full budget he was in no position to guarantee a seat. Of course there is always the standard F1 way of doing these things. Dump him first then pay the penalty. That is how these matters have usually been resolved.
Yes
Reebok are the only ones that I'm aware of
but lewis has never had any personal sponsors apart from mclaren surely? theres no need for them in the lower junior formula because macca were paying for it all
i think i'm officially in trouble:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/13/daily-13th-april-2009/
ahh, okay. good news then.
he can't have to much money... apparently.
Do you think Fangio was not credible. He did that and won a championship doing it.
Things were rather different back then.
Depends if he has a personal contract with them or whether he is contracted to them as a McLaren driver.
ahhh, busted, i believe is the correct term ;)
Lewis has some personal sponsorship and I know he has the option to have more but does not want the extra hassle just now.
Despite their success Ross Brawn has indicated that sponsors are not lining up. They will use these their initial advantage but as the season progresses they will get caught up and probably overtaken. They would be crazy to upset things by dumping Rubens for Lewis.
In the unlikely event of Rubens being dumped for Macca, if I were Macca I would pick up Rubens rather than using Pedro.
Nah. Rubens could need time to get used to the car. Pedro would be more with it.
But how much time has Pedro had in the car this year?
loads. have you seen page 22??
I think that with Racing with a new team Versus Racing with a team you know the ins and outs of, the latter should win.
Lmao. Nice one.
I went to 3 shops today trying to find F1 Racing just in case its out but my subscription is late. It's definitely not out here yet :(
hahaha, soo didnt see that coming hehe.
But Ruben has more racing experience than Pedro - he and Jenson were quick to get used to the Brawn. Testing and Racing are very different.
But Fangio never said he'd stay with 1 team forever, did he? ;)
Give the kid a break, he made 1 comment ;)
But if Ross has no sponsors, doesn't that increase rather than decrease his need for Lewis? That said, that also makes it less likely that they can afford him.
Even so, he genuinely felt that way.
I'm sure he did, just like how many people get married saying "we'll be together forever" and then get divorced within a year :P
I
Ross is clearly being strategic, I still do not rule out Branson coming on board and renaming the cars Virgin GP or something.
Not that im saying that will happen to lewis ;)
Did Fangio had people all over the internet screaming "he can only win in a good car, worst champion ever!"
Now for my purely selfish reasons, if he left McLaren this type of screaming would result in me having to stay off the internet in case my head explodes
Planetf1 had to report it...
http://msn.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5182389,00.html
Button and his Brawn GP team were having a dinner with Branson to celebrate signing the sponsorship deal with Virgin Group when Jenson thought the billionaire was hitting on his lady, 24-year-old Jessica Michibata.
Apparently a few feather flew!
I'm going to have to put the doohickey away for the moment, i'm having serious distraction problems and really have to make full use of this extention :-/
Or-iv-wa (thats french ;) )
Given what happen at dinner possibly Branson will not be sponsoring Brawn
Bye.
They're all made of thick stuff, it won't effect it :)
Says it happened before Branson even decided to sponsor the team. But I'm also getting out my salt to take a pinch of it.
BATracer isnt going great for us is it ? :P
Hey, you made it to Q2. We're moving up! ;)
I know, i've just realised, very proud :D hehe
Still, so far this season, the Renault thats doing best by the last few laps crashes right near the end, so look out.
Concerning both the stories of Sutil suggesting Hamilton's skin-colour is connected to penalties and Hamilton might defect to Brawn, have either of these been confirmed by any source of greater integrity than GMM-fed news sites?
Judging by some of Herr Mosley's exceptionally rude public comments about Ron Dennis in recent years, there seems to lie the real malice. Does anyone know what Ron might have done in years past to have caused this? Mosley seemed to delight in publically rubbing McLaren's noses in it after the Spygate punishment and I doubt Max found it a painful or arduous responsibility to initially mention to the media that Lie-gate might just result in further disciplinary action. In fact, I imagine he was rubbing his hands with glee.
If Hamilton was loyal enough to lie for McLaren, would he be disloyal enough to leave for getting caught for it? Would he want the pay-cut? I was interested that both Ant Davidson and Ralf Schumacher pretty much said that in such circumstances, you do what the team tells you.
Did FIA not get caught out being more than economical with the truth at the Belgium penalty appeal? Autosport link.
as i said yesterday:
"...which makes me mighty glad I’m not a news agency promising to deliver between 10 and 20 original F1 stories a day. If I’d have been dumb enough to suggest that, I might be forced to make something up."
Woah, forgot about that, thats massive, can't believe i didn't know that at the time
Max is an aristocrat who failed miserably as a team owner. Ron is a mere mchanic who in Maxworld should be doffing his cap and tugging his forelock to his betters rather than showing him how to to the job properly.
Ron is a pleb like the rest of us and that coupled with the fact that Max's family name stopped him having a serious political career means the only way he can demonstrate his superiority is to kick Ron. Of course had the result of WWII been different Max's father would have been the puppet in charge of the country and now in his own head Max would have been running the show by now.
I'm still certain that the cars will be re-liveried and renamed by July at the latest, though I would think earlier.
I wrote a subtely titled piece on it at the time http://www.f1-pitlane.com/content/charlie-whiting-liar-no-one-cares
ah yes, i see the subtlety
Not really The FIA indicated straight away it had made a mistake in considering the Luizzi case. Autosport has blown it a bit out of context.
"Article 152 of the International Sporting Code states that drive-through penalties are 'not susceptible to appeal'," a statement from the FIA's Court of Appeal said on Tuesday."
Macca were banking on this same clause to prevent Toyota from appealing Jarno's penalty. Tactically it was brilliant of Macca to finger Toyota as they could not appeal - it was so close to cheating without the associated risks. Toyota was not quite so dumb, however, they lodged an appeal via the Clerk of the Course. They withdrew their appeal but at the same time leaked the radio conversation while publicly saying the FIA would not listen to them. In essence they drew FIA into having to re-investigate.
Pretty sneaky by Toyota, actually. But they almost didn't even race - so they were skating on very thin ice here.
Herr Mosley did have a go with the Conservative Party in the early 'eighties but was disapointed with, "the calibre of senior party officials". Translation: they would not agree with him and let him be leader. So instead he runs FIA in a dictatorial fashion.
Of course, his predecessor, Jean-Marie Balestre, was a war-time member of the French S.S. although insisted it was as a double-agent. I dread to think who will be next.
Good piece.
They knew that Macca had pulled a fast one on them so they had to be sneaky by sowing enough seeds of doubt for the FIA to rethink its penalty. The flexibility of the wing could actually be a manufacturing issue, I have spoken to an engineer here at our faculty about composites and it is rather complicated to test flexibility in all directions. It was right that Toyota were pushed to the back they were at fault and they had to make changes which were re-tested. As for being banned from the race, you just p..... off a portion of the fan-base (including TV viewership) and some hefty sponsors like Panasonic. It is for this reason Lewis will be allowed to contest the rest of 2009 championship. What is not clear is whether Macca will be allowed to compete for the constructors championship this year. This or some sort of fine or both will be the options the FIA will most likely consider.
Jean Todt looks like Napoleon. Acts like him too. :D
Clearly very suited for the position. No doubt he will ably assist Ferrari if his retirement package from them was to his pleasing!
Him assisting Ferrari is not cut and dried, by any means, though. Remember that LDM ousted his dream team - so he may still feel aggrieved by that.
He actually ran a political party with his father before that but for some reason they struggled to get people to vote for them
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Movement
Balestre was known to be a facist but never had the high level connections Max's family had. His parents were married in a house belonging to josef Goebbels and Hitler was at the wedding. Stephen Fry has discussed an interview he did with Max's mother where as an off the cuff comment she turned to him and said 'You didn't know Hitler. Did you?' like he was some regular person.
You are quite the history buff, Steven. :D Did you ever consider making it your career?
This is a difficult one to call on - hence if he was suitable paid off he might help otherwise he might to the opposite. The thought of this poison dwarf heading FIA makes me shudder. Clever, yes but integrity highly questionable. Ferrari has seen too much benefit derived from the FIA in the past for him to be acceptable to me.
I think he does have integrity - he does things within the rules. Very stretched rules, but within them nonetheless. We may hate the stuff he does, but has he ever done anything out and out illegal?
BTW, if your TV won't show MotoGP tonight:
http://www.justin.tv/playbeyond
Their views were extreme to say the least, even for the time. Hitler-like politics in the post-war era was unlikely to succeed.
Politics is about packaging and charisma. Doubt that Max ever had any of that!
I wish I could find a way to make it pay. The trouble is i didn't develop an interest in it untlil long after I had left school so career options are limited.
You could be the new Steven Fry...except without all the explusion from school...or prison.....unless theres something your not telling us?!
I was seriously considering taking some sort of history course for Uni, but history just doesn't pay. I just decided to ace my history units in Uni instead. ;)
It's great fun to do in your spare time, though. :)
It's 1am here and I don't 'do' late nights very well, but what did Schumi have to do with Ron?
Steven Roy
Steven Fry
Hmmm?
Never been expelled from school or prison
Schumi was interested in signing for Mclaren but Ron dosent allow personal sponsorship (or didnt) for hats etc, like ferrari do now
Schumi considered moving to McLaren twice (once for 1996, once for 2000), but Ron said no to his personal sponsorships (first Dekra, then DVMB).
Ron tried to sign him a few times but the negotiations never got very far because Ron wouldn't let him have personal sponsors and wouldn't let him veto team mates.
you don't tend to get expelled from prison... :-)
Thanks all for clearing that up.
depends, what prisons do you go to ;) hehe
McLaren isn't big enough to fit Ron AND Michael.
For those following the GRID laptime challenge, I've upped the ante even more - now up to 1.25.49 :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00580-jpg
I know Max was a member and almost ran as a candidate but did he run the party with his father? Max Mosley's main role seemed to be as some sort of social secretary organising parties to persuade young people that fascism could be fun. I think when it came to running the party, his father was not the power-sharing type either.
And now 1:24:98
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00585-jpg
Oh you are kidding.....
Maybe there should be the 'Michael Schumacher Trophy For Being Too Good' and then a 'Sterling Moss Trophy for being Best of the Rest'
Based on my performance last night I think there should be a Takuma Sato Trophy.
I'll be on GRID in a bit. Let's see if I can't knock Brawn Boy off his perch ;)
god bless the Damage Off option :D
Good. :D
Normal service has been resumed. ;)
here here
You should have your own end of year awards...
'The Lewis Hamilton Award for Incompetence in the Pits'
'The Mark Webber Award for 'I was doing so well before the engine went''
I'm going for 'The Sebastian Buemi award for 'I was so fast, three and a half tenths, noooooo''
haha
'The Kimi Raikkonen award for giving up before its finished'
Maybe we should all hide until Mr C is officially out of the dog house
Right, I'm going to go and balls up some more laps in the last chicane.
Hope there's not an 'atmosphere' on Wednesday....
Well I'll boycott if there is
We can form a breakaway meetup.
Picking through an article in the Brazil 1982 edition of Grand Prix International (best (but sadly short-lived) F1 magazine ever) on Jean-Marie Balestre, at fifteen, he joined the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism, spent four months involved in the Spanish Civil war, and was a prominent anti-Nazi speaker in 1938-9. After German occupation, he organised a group of young anti-Nazis, and later at nineteen joined/infiltrated the (Nazi) Youth Front, but got quickly expelled after interrogation by the Gestapo. He then became deputy head of a youth camp, keeping contact with the free zone and supplying forged papers to the resistance. He had quite a successful career as a Nazi later joining the NSKK recruiting French volunteers for the Waffen SS and then in charge of recruiting for the Eastern front. In 1943, he was involved in a failed plot to blow up the Waffen SS HQ, and Balestre was arrested, tortured, jailed, and then deported to a series of concentration camps including Dachau. After liberation in 1945, he returned to France where he was jailed for eighteen months for collaboration before his case came to court and he was freed.
According to the author of this article, Keith Botsford, "I have seen the documents and they are genuine."
However, Balestre's fast-track career success as a Nazi did cause his resistance colleagues some doubts. One story I think I read in Motorsport is that he was asked which side he was on and replied, "Whichever side wins." Undoubtedly, with his behaviour as head of FISA and FIA, he was an outrageous drama-queen (not intending any observation on his sexual orientation) and such I believe is often true of double-agents.
Did he know quite which side he was on? In the chaos of the aftermath of World War II, how much documentation survived? After all, he did know a thing or two about acquiring forged documents himself. In conclusion, he was definitely a loyal member of the resistance, or a loyal Nazi, or both or neither, and that's the definitive truth.
I guess in the end it comes down to what was going on in his head regardless what evidence there is to prove he was a member of either side and none of us will ever that.
Big shake up at Ferrari. Baldisserri to be factory based rather than going to the races. Chris Dyer will take over his track duties.
Marc Gene has been doing straight line tests.
Rory Byrne will be representing the team in Paris which puts a different spin on his comments about diffusers a few days ago.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74449
WOW. This is... HUGE. Biggest re-org since Brawn and Byrne came in 1997. LDM's doing, I'm sure. Stefano better step up his game... or else.
However - I'm not sure if this reflex reaction is the best thing for them. Reshuffling everything so soon? That just triggers more flux and chaos.
In the days of Todt, many wondered the real Ferrari, the Italian-Latin Ferrari, was. Well, it's back. Oh boy, it's back.
And they got Rory Byrne to come back from Thailand. It's THAT huge.
Corrected my typo above. :D
MotoGP in Qatar, Take 2!
And action!
Is it any worse than McLaren losing their technical director?
Nooo!! I'm watching the west wing, will iplayer it later
This is bigger in that multiple people and positions are affected. And they asked for Rory Byrne to come back - that wouldn't just happen for no particular reason.
And the Todt-era Ferrari team hated doing such reshuffles - they take a more structured, slow-but-steady approach.
It starts in under 28 minutes.
So Ferrari are to have a working party lead by the technical director to improve this year's cars? What was the previous plan - to not have the technical director leading a group to work on improving this year's cars?
Can you Feed me please? i cant find one
Don't worry, found the BBC one
If it rains, and gets red flagged. I'm going to spend the next week laughing
They said no clouds whatsoever - clear skies.
Did you hear the Mika Kallio interview? You'd think he was Mika Hakkinen or Kimi Raikkonen if you weren't looking.
haha.
who says men can't multitask, im watching a Moto GP race (on silent) and lots of the West Wing too.
the grid looks very empty when no-ones moving. bikes are smallllll
too true. :D
i guess it dosent go as far back because theres 3 bikes on a row. looking forward to this :)
look! a race where everyones still on the track after a lap! WOW!
Rossi likes making it hard for himself - he always falls back at the start. Sparring with Lorenzo didn't help his cause, either.
I wonder what angle they get down to when they lean on those corners
And just as you say that, Melandri goes off.
last year they had a cool graphic where it tells you the angle of leaning, some serious angles going on
yeah, hahaha
fantastic camera work looking at the driver behind
Now - can Rossi catch Stoner?
why are you live commenting the moto gp in yesterday's thread? :)
It was meant to happen yesterday
oops
ahhh clever :)
From what I remember I don't think so... I'm sure you want more detail than that.
Sorry am very confused then...
:D
I signed at as James Allen, it was a joke, the didn't understand the joke.
By the way I am only just catching up with the daily post... I do take umbridge at you saying you are stuck at stage six when:
The daily posts for the last few days prove that! You used capitals and everything!
First Sidepodpannel + the one when RG could continue... You didn't want to let your friends down!
12 days of Sidepodchristmas - need I say more!
Oh denial - yes I am certain you are here! :)
oh balls.
Update the wiki :)
I couldn't continue, its a matter of principle you see, I'm going to explain what happend once more.
Wait, the phone is ringing
Me - oh balls :)
:D
Plus it's Christine's blog, so technically you are a guest writer even if you do have your own byline.
That's the thing. Although to be fair this extra criteria was only added to move Steven Roy up the ranks. So in many ways it's Steven Roy's fault :)
How does he live with himself we wonder...
They are freelance. What else they do is their business!
He does the darts? Have I been missing something.
i think he did it before f1?
Something = 180 :)
i guess it would only ever be an issue, if the force india podcast was made on bbc time and bbc money?
on BBC equipment...
or that.
Don't an independent company make the Five Live podcasts? USP Content or something? Maybe they make some of the team podcasts too?
According to the BBC
'David has worked for the station for 10 years, during which time he has presented Sport on 5, covered the 2002 Football World Cup, 2004 Olympic Games, World Championship boxing and the 2007 Superbowl'
Really? Don't remember that.
For 5Live that is
http://uspcontent.com/
not sure about the fif1 podcast, but they've done the renault one since the beginning and holly's always presented that.
Jimmy White interview on Inside Sport tonight. Woot!
Is it even on UK TV? Do the USians have our Cup Final too?
Ah.
croftie's done the darts on tv too? i swear we've heard him.
Yeah, the BBC have the rights to it, showed it on BBC 2 last year I think.
Not just mistaking him with someone else? Cos I've watched it and cant remember it.
Or SkySports if you have got it
there's a comment somewhere on sidepodcast about it. give me ten mins.
Live on BBC1 and Sky Sports.
They have ads though. BBC have Jake Humphrey and that American guy.
180 Miles Per Hour! ?
No need.

'a darts commentator for BBC Television.'
A West Ham fan too, so, ha to him
Greg Brady?
Thanks for all the replies about the Superbowl, I should have mentioned that Icouldn't care less that it is shown here, so sorry for wasting your time :s
*shrug*
i found it:

oh.
c'mon. we live commented bruce and everything this year.
Bah, watching the Superbowl is something is something everything should do at least once.
I replied to that as well. My brain = Poor much very
:D
I'm told that I may have watched it some years ago (on Channel 4 apparently). I really don't remember
95 million people can't be wrong.
Wow. Do you remember every single comment for future reference? If so, my PIN is.....
gotta know your comments ;)
Question for Inside Sport watchers. Has F1 been on it? Might be a daft question, but I remember reading what would be on the first show of the new series a few weeks ago and there was no mention of F1.
when everyone else is on engine 9 and taking their grid penalty and he’s still on engine 1 he can talk about how much money he’s saved the team, and how he finally gets to be on pole. {Comment #77}
Heikki's on engine 2 already. Whether he needs to be or not is another question entirely.
:D Now watching Red Dwarf
Oops, in the wrong thread again :(
have i ever mentioned how much i like lclt?
Just as a by the way... I have noticed that the realtime doohicky doesn't last as much as it used to :( Soz to say... I looked back to my last version and it stalled at: 12/04/2009 at 13:33:11
i like it too... shame it doesn't like me :P
hmmm. my desire to improve it is waning rapidly.
:(
true. nor steveintheuk it would seem. however, building a better lclt is trivial compared to fixing a fundamentally flawed doohickey.
the problem is, it causes us way, way more work than any other single element of sidepodcast. and it's no-ones fault, it's just not a very good idea.
it used to be fine. then stopped letting me post comments. i think the problem with today was that the daily thread went up when other conversations were going on in this thread, so they were continued, and people assumed they were in the right thread. it's not normally this bad.
Would that count as a GP win? Guess the team could claim so.
not a clue. i guess it depends on how the fia choose to call it? {Comment #259}
It is considered a win - only the points and easily divisible rewards are halved.
I absolutely believe that I like the doohicky outside of race times... However... I think that you should pile the pressure onto the users. Make them jump through hoops to post on a non-daily thread. RG is right about pop-ups to the non-current thread.
I reckon if it doesn't make you happy the community will understand...
However I love being able to leave something open that collects all of the comments from all of the threads for me...
i agree. maybe doohickey should be read-only?
I agree completely.
isn't the point so that people can post quicker?
but where will we post?
I would probably go with that...
Reply does a pop-up with a lclt for that thread?
Interesting. HOw about making the thread link into the reply button - then you read what it says instead of just hitting reply?
no.
the reason it was created was so we could watch multiple conversations simultaneously.
on a new and improved lclt.
No, unless you can make everything read-only except today's daily thread.
We could post in the actual comments... Although I do love the current convenience.
But if you are watching a conversation surely you will want to be involved in it?
Yeah, thats what I meant quicker, so they didn't miss anything.
but then how would we live comment in a race.... pressing F5?
I like Pat's idea, make the Doohickey only available to consider the thread from the latest daily
i dunno, the text is big enough already. from my perspective it's really about human nature, and my human nature tells me to hit reply if i have something to say and not to categorise my thoughts before typing them.
You've created a monster because nobody wants ta see LCLT no more,
they want doohicky...
etc.
rats!
We use the LCLT for that no?
you sir, need a knight hood
Are people going to want to watch conversations in one window and reply to them in another though?
All I mean is that when we're watching a race we do all tend to be in one thread so the LCLT works really well.
i honestly would if i could. actually... i haven't tried it in chrome.. only Firefox.. i'll see if that works
I thang you :)
It works great for me in Chrome.
don't worry, lclt in its current guise is old and slow. it does need updating. that i'm aware of. don't trouble yourself trying.
i don't know. but this current conversation is already massively, massively broken. we're on two threads, discussing the same issue.
to put it mildly, it's ******
I gotta admit, lclt is brilliant, its is advanced ahead more than a lot of blogs would have. Its quicker than going through blog links, comment quicker, great for live commenting, One flaw is that it only allows you to post in one place at a time. And its alright for that cos you know where your posting at least.
The problem is that the doohicky is really close to a perfect system... I've shown it to several people who say, "F$C£ing h*ll this is a blog? Amazing this is the future.. even twitter doesn't do this properly yet!"
There's a reason why people don't want it to go... Why Christine prefers it to the LCLT...
i agree. but even you must see that if anyone tries to read this conversation in the morning, it will be impossible to follow. it's spread across two threads and literally only makes sense if you happen to have doohickey open, or have left it open overnight.
in a few months time, it'll be worthless as a conversation. that.is.bad.
I think if you just make it Vista like to post in the wrong thread then people will stop!
oops. what happened?
Heavy rain + night race + bright lights + way too many track reflections {Comment #337}
At last I can explain to Mum why she turned on the TV expecting the re-run of MotoGP and found some gardening program on instead...
ok, i shall try.
I can't follow it now.
It could be just me thats broken though...
I understand that... That is why it is necessary to make it either a) hard to post in the wrong thread or b) work flawlessly....
I am sorry, but the created a monster thing is truly appropriate. I haven't seen anyone else solve this problem yet. And the thing you are doing is so close to awesome that it is so awesome that the people using it don't want to lose it.
You are super smart... You can figure out a way... I believe :)
i appreciate your confidence :)
will crack on... after the science museum visit, and then the race!
:D
And all in the wrong thread!
absolutely. the word is broken.
Woo, it feels like weeks since Malaysia already.
I now have two windows open so that I can go back and forth and keep up...
... but then I am one of the worlds oddities who both computers on more than one screen and watches TV or listens to radio 4 at the same time.... (I've been known to sew/knit, read and watchtv/listentor4 all at once as well....)
I once tried putting theme hospital on a floppy disk when I was really young. Ahh to be naive once again. {Comment #803}
I remember when my floppy disks had more space than my computer's memory. Very useful for backing up stuff, not so useful when the most advanced game you can play on it is Commander Keen I (and even that is really slow)...
Funnily enough, I started playing Theme Hospital again last week. For some reason, it's stopped saving the saved games though, which ruins the replay value a bit :(
that solution won't work for men!
:)
I hate that old games don't run properly on new computers.
Theme Hospital! Awww, those were the days. I loved playing Sim City and Civilization around that time too. {Comment #808}
Remember Theme Park too (the original, that is). When I got that I spent about three months playing nothing else. Luckily my other computer games were patient.
Chris, how's the Grid laptimes coming along?:P
The children have an old laptop for precisely this reason - we have big gaps and lots of decent games for them from when DD1 was that age. They work OK, so I'm loath to have to replace them all :-)
I hate that old games don’t run properly on new computers. {Comment #1434}
That's what DOSBox was made for. The only game I haven't managed to make work properly on that yet is Little Big Adventure (again, the original - LBA2 is fine).
Not well. I don't know why I chose the F3000 cars, I bloody hate them! I managed to shave about a second off today but still pretty far off your time :(
I salute you for giving your children old games to play. Kids who go straight into next-gen gaming never appreciate classic games.
If you mean the 1:26, that was Luke :P
If I remember correctly, you're quicker than my 1:30.32 :)
My bad :D
What does DD1 stand for? lol
DD1 = dear/dratted (dependent on mood!) daughter 1.
Thing is - to me the games they have aren't 'old' .... I'm from the days of zx81/spectrums (harold anyone?) and textbased games such as HHGTTG and Leather Goddesses of Phobos (pmsl) on text only PCs.... Heck there was a time when I spent vast quantities of time with interesting shaped dice and paper and pencil and being the only female in a room of non-females....
ah right, thought it would be a kidlet of some sort :)
Not that I would describe the 13+ dd1 as a kidlet - she's nearly as tall as I am, wah! (OK, so I'm short and Andy is not - plus I have tall male relatives in direct line etc etc - so not suprising but still wah!)
Me neither (I'm 22 for the record), but kids who go straight to Xbox 360 and PS3 see anything before the N64/PS1 era and discount it as rubbish without even playing it. Quite sad really, but there are plans for a museum of sorts that will keep copies of such things.
I still have my PS1. :D
Never have, never will.
lou, best game you ever played from yesteryear? {Comment #849}
When I was 2, I played a lot of Jumpman and liked it a lot, but my first real favourite game was Paganitzu, which came out a year later. Pushing boulders around was a lot of fun.
Then there was Commander Keen a couple of years later, then Doom two years after that. My brother and I must have played through the shareware game's competitive mode about 50 times.
After that, Transport Tycoon and Jazz Jackrabbit arrived at about the same time. In both cases they were shareware for a long time before we managed to locate registered versions at a then-novel-to-us thing called a "computer fair". Transport Tycoon was at the first one we attended and it was the first game we ever bought on CD-ROM. Incredibly exciting, and it's fair to say we got our £20 out of it! Jazz's registered version arrived a year later and I still play it occasionally (though it is strictly the desktop version; I tried OpenJazz for Windows Mobile a few weeks back and it definitely needs work before I will repeat the experience...)
After that, there was a bit of a lull because I got my first computer and it wasn't powerful enough to play anything more advanced than Paganitzu. Also, there was a Commodore 64 in the house for a few months, which got played to pieces (favourite game on there being Bubble Bobble - somehow the PC conversion was never as good, even if the C64 one frequently locked up on level 35). I had access to my dad's computer, the game I played most often was Civilization, closely followed by Dune 2. (This was when the gap between games being released and my parents picking them up as bargains first came to light).
However, Christmas 1998 brought a better computer for me and Theme Park. It took a good three months before anyone could convince me to try any other games - and Quake was a bit of a letdown after the thrills of setting up my own rollercoasters.
The next two-and-a-third years was a golden age for enjoying a vast quantity of varied games. Then came The Big One.
I'd been looking at it with a somewhat envious eye since it had appeared in March 2000, but the price tag had always been too high. A review in Computer Gaming World holding it in effusive praise and comparing it with the enduring power of NetHack (a game that was 16 years old at the time and still finding great favour with one of the reviewers and, about seven years later, me) only fired my quiet enthusiasm further. When I got an unmarked box as the penultimate present in my Christmas 2000 stocking, I didn't dare believe my parents had actually bought it for me. When I not only played The Sims to pieces but bought every single expansion pack for it and downloaded a full gigabyte of custom items, my parents might have been less confident in the wisdom of their decision.
Even my brother has a copy of The Sims 2, and he rarely plays anything on the computer that doesn't have a gun in it somewhere (or he didn't last I checked - he moved away a couple of years ago).
The Sims 2 is my favourite game, Theme Park is my favourite from yesteryear if the definition is "20th century", but if that's not yesteryear enough for you, wind back the comment far enough and something in there will satisfy your definition.
You will be pleased to know that The Sims 3 is due out in June.
There's a Sims movie in progress too. "What the hell" doesn't begin to cover my thoughts.
Yup, of all the game-to-movie plans, that has to be the stupidest.
Thing is - to me the games they have aren’t ‘old’ …. I’m from the days of zx81/spectrums (harold anyone?) and textbased games such as HHGTTG and Leather Goddesses of Phobos (pmsl) on text only PCs…. {Comment #1444}
I've heard of Leather Goddesses of Phobos (and told that I shouldn't play it as a child, though this wasn't an option at the time since I neither had a suitable console nor had heard of emulators). Could you please tell me what HHGTTG is?
I remember playing Theseus on my first computer, which was a text-based adventure. Used to keep getting struck by some wild boar because my mapping skills were rubbish at the time.
What's it called, can't see anything on IMDB?
Currently, The Sims : The Movie, but it's in the earliest stages of planing.
It should be called What The **** tbh.
Wooden actors then?
:D
It already exists - its about a 10 min cycle down the road from us at Bletchley Park :-)
HHGTTG = hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. I haven't played it in ages (eons) as I no longer have a 3 1/2" drive on anything useable (well, safely without worrying about short circuits usable, lol) but Andy tells me that its around online should one hunt for it.
Mind you - I also keep meaning to go find the telnet MUDs that I used to play but I then remember the sheer amount of time I used to kill on them (specifically Igor or NuclearWar) at university (overnight computer labs anyone - going up to campus on the last bus and home or to ones one campus at the other end of the city on the first bus teehee) and wondering if I have the time anymore or can risk the sheer addictive factor.....
there was a time when I spent vast quantities of time with interesting shaped dice and paper and pencil and being the only female in a room of non-females…. {Comment #1444}
You found someone who would play that with you? Cool! I bought the Dungeons and Dragons basic books (Advanced, edition 3.5) when I went to university and then found out the (Not Just) Dungeons and Dragons Society clashed with swimming club... Even looking online didn't help because I can't guarantee a specific time when I'll have three uninterrupted hours on the internet every week.
So the books have stayed in a box in my room ever since. Maybe one day I'll get to use them...
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy at a guess
Ah, good to know.
Uh........

Front cover guy looks a bit like Liuzzi. :P
You will be pleased to know that The Sims 3 is due out in June. {Comment #1447}
I would be were it not for the complete impossibility of me having a computer that could actually run the game by then. (A three-day camping trip somewhere a bit noisy at around that time took priority).
Reported as far back as May 2007, still hasn't reached IMDB (usually a pre-production or announced status will be listed)
Let's hope it never made it passed the budget sign-off!
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy at a guess {Comment #1462}
Thanks for that. I've read the books but never knew there was a computer game.
Glasses and hair are not 'wacky' enough ;)
Sadly, Prince of Persia and Shadow of the Colosus already have.
heh - try the roleplaying thing - as a female I *never* lacked for those willing to play (although I did occasionally have to point-off an ex-public-schoolboy with a blunt point or two when they hadn't learnt that females were befriendable without it being anything else (rolls eyes!)
Front cover guy looks a bit like Liuzzi. {Comment #1464}
:D
The one at the back vaguely resembles Keke Rosberg. The one in the middle doesn't remind me of any F1 racers past or present, possibly because I can't imagine any of them in quite that pose during a race...
Read the books, watched the TV series and the film and never heard of the game.
You need to go and find all the radio series to fill in the gaps then now :-)
on a ye olde arcade machine (10p a game), yup. {Comment #891ish}
There was an arcade machine in the hotel where my swimming team stayed for the annual Blyth swimming gala. It had a tabletop version of Space Invaders dating from 1981. I was really pleased with myself when I got the top score on it the last year I went. Don't know if I still hold the record though, because I've not been since 2003.
The only other one I remember going on was a racing game (whose name I cannot remember) in the arcade at the French hotel where my school trip stayed in 1998. I only managed second on that one...
When I was 11 I went to Spain on a school trip and me and a friend spend every night in the hotel bar drinking no-alcoholic cocktails and playing Metal Slug on an arcade cabinet. Good times.
lou’s just reminded me of one of the best and most addictive pc games ever…
…rollercoaster tycoon!! {Comment #896}
I quite enjoyed that game - but remember being told off for playing its sequel too much in the run-up to second-year winter exams...
When I was 11 I went to Spain on a school trip and me and a friend spend every night in the hotel bar drinking no-alcoholic cocktails and playing Metal Slug on an arcade cabinet. {Comment #1475}
That game I've never heard about before. What was it about?
Pacman!!!
They still have the machine at Kilve Court and it *Still* works :-)
It's a side scrolling shooter with gorgeous animations and a sense of humour. There have been loads of sequels, love them all.

Hitchhikers game has been updated here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/game_nolan.shtml
They’ve already got over the Hamilton licensing issue which pleases me, I remember when f1 97 had ‘Driver One’ for jacques Villeneuve… things like that annoy me, even if it was Villeneuve {Comment #922}
I remember Villenueve being dubbed "John Newhouse" for Grand Prix 3, which I thought quite amusing (especially since I thought that was "Jacques Villenueve" in English - perhaps Microprose thought the same).
I don't know who Villenueve had the exclusive deal with, but it could have been Europress because "F1 Manager", which dated from two years earlier, had his real name.
Oh dear Sutil - thats something you really shouldn’t have said… however funny it is. {Comment #1052}
I don't think he intended that as a joke. Not that this is likely to make the FIA any happier when they see the statement.
Sadly, I am beginning to wonder whether Adrian has a point. Though this particular incident isn't one I'd be highlighting as special proof of Lewis getting picked on because he and his team brought it upon themselves.
I can assure you a can of Red Bull is more likely to be performance enhancing than marijuana, similarly a double espresso. It is just that we have Victorian attitudes towards certain substances.
There is a rule against the use of certain drugs; in F1, there is no rule against lying in a steward's office. In the former case, officialdom was right to ban Tomas Enge (and he's lucky he wasn't in an Olympic sport, otherwise he'd have been banned for two years on top of losing the title). In the latter, it had no authority to do anything beyond restore Jarno Trulli to third place.
Lying to the stewards may be cause for moral opprobium, but it isn't forbidden in the rules. Unless and until the regulations permit the FIA to intervene in such cases, it should not have presumed to usurp the F1 fans' right to decide what is within the "spirit of the rules". As it stands, the FIA has insulted the intelligence of viewers when a tiny bit of foresight (or even learning from previous occasions when less-than-truthful accounts have led to errors in F1's administration) would have left it the clear guardian of sporting standards in an unsporting age.
Surely drugs and 200mph is a bad combination. I can’t imagine there would be a performance advantage anywhere other than in his own mind. {Comment #1117}
Agreed. In the case of marajuana, there is a case to say it should be banned for the detriment to co-ordination and concentration it causes after the effects start wearing off (about an hour after consumption, according to the "Fresher Pressure" book I read discussing the effects of drugs). This would still be the case regardless of any performance benefit it might or might not have in the hour preceding that.
If this was happing to Sutil i bet we wouldnt care half as much {Comment #1133}
I would, being a Force India supporter ;) Note, however, that I am very much in the minority there...
Remember Alan Baxter the olympic skier? a few olympics back he used one of those vic sprays for his nose because he had a cold, he was stripped of his medal because it had a substance in it that wasnt allowed. {Comment #1146}
Very true. Those rules even apply to disabled sports, which makes getting the exemptions for necessary medications for many athletes a lengthy and messy process - especially for those who compete under multiple governing bodies.
not sure about the fif1 podcast, but they’ve done the renault one since the beginning and holly’s always presented that {Comment #1352}
They do make the FIF1 podcast.
Now this was an addictive game!
C&C was brilliants. RA1 consumed my life for months. While later editions looked better, these two are still more 'playable', IMO.
And Tanya!
Pfft, teaching to pass the exam rather than to inform...
:falls over:
classic game!
I built one called 'The Drain' which climbed really high then spiralled down and then went underground. They didn't like it. I think people vomited.
Amen!
