It's been a while, but in the absence of one half of Sidepodcast, it falls to me to provide the daily post this fine Saturday morning.
There hasn't been a huge amount happening in the F1 world, and after the first batch of flyaway races, this can only be a good thing. Trivia to be aware of today includes:
- Autosport had a chat with Charlie Whiting and he revealed more information about what happened during the steward enquires in Melbourne and Sepang. It's a worthwhile read, albeit subscription only.
- In yet more Autosport news, or should that be AUTOSPORT news (upper-case is all the rage these days), Peter Windsor is thinking about Cosworth power, while Philippe Gurdjian is thinking about faffing around with Grand Prix start times - that can only end well!
- Outside of the Formula 1 bubble, Me and Page 22 continues to take on a life of its own, while someone in the comments (rumoured to be Steven), has started Sidepodreligion. The mind truly boggles.
That pretty much wraps up the past 24 hours, what will the next bring? On Zero Downforce, Scott has just compiled a Super Season Grid based on times from the first two races, while Christine is lord knows where, holidaying on a boat.
Me? I'll see you in the comments.
This night truly is the strangest i've had in a long while
Me does capital letters :D
how annoying are autosport? i know why they're doing it, but it just comes across as a bit petty.
499 teams in the spc fantasy racers league. who win be the 500th?

Night Lukeh. :)

Night luke, night jackie.
see ya jackie.
the guy's having a shocking start to the season.
Just like last year.
ah yes. was it race 3 or race 4 he finally got his act together?
I have him, or I think I do, man I've changed way too many times.
Night to those who have left
and our 500th fantasy racers signup is:

20: Kovalainen 00.24
There are some interesting strategy things you could extrapolate from this.
It took him until Race 6 - Monaco - and the new STR before he scored any points.
I'm surprised Sutil is so high up...
He was unlucky in a few races to be fair
oh jeez. hoping he has a better run this year.
enough to make a post?
He's cheap. Helpful if you want lap points
Me too, I'm sticking with him for the forseeable future.
As is Bourdais. Christine will like that. :)
Sticking with Der Seb is the right thing to do if you have him. It's just a matter of waiting for when he'll come good, as he eventually will.
I still haven;'t joined Fantasy Racers for this year. Wishing I did it before the season as I can't really afford Jenson now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpsfGv0GnJ0
There's a mashup of a Green Day song with a Doctor Who Dalek song thing and the Doctor Who theme tune. It's superb I reckon. And yes, I am a big Green Day fan. :P
G'Day all!
Hi Sean
How are we all today?
I'm fine, just a bit tired in general
I'm great. Twas a bit of a mess here last night, apparently. ;)
I'll give it a try. First I am going to see if www.f1Prospectus.com is taken. If I am going to start formula one statistical analysis, I figure on doing it right.
I have some time to kill on the plane ride back on Sunday night. I was looking for something to do anyways other than work stuff.
I feel bad that I may be taking the honour from someone who has time to properly have a go at this. I didn't sign up initially because I fear I won't do it justice.
However, my Dad went to the 500th GP which was held in Australia in 1990. I couldn't attend as I had my final High School exams starting the day after (might as well have gone :-( ), so in honour of that fantastic Adelaide event, I become... the 500!
Qualified 17th in BATracer for Sepang...
apart from the force indias and the red bulls, i think its a fairly realistic grid for Sepang
Kovalainen is rubbish? :P
:(
I was thinking something a little less obvious, like the fact that Sutil and Bourdais are actually great value for money right now.
It is true, Amy. Goes out on Lap 1 of the 1st 2 races. At least he can still catch Lewis - he's only a point ahead!
Haha I know it's true I'm trying to delude myself.
My only consolation is at least I don't support Piquet ;)
Morning all. Amy have you heard of this sleep thing?
Indeed :P
I slept from 7am until 3pm! Body clock ruined, so I'm not going to a party tonight that I probably should because apparently its my birthday party. If you see me commenting in about 5 hours tell me to go to bed :)
True, but even then, he's finished more laps in a car just a sucky. He even finished Sepang.
I like to remind myself that Vettel didn't finish the first 4 races last year. And Massa looked crap in the first two and look what happened to him. I can be surprisingly optimistic/deluded.
There is one more meandpage22 pic here: http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/omg-jpg
has anyone claimed that one?
Does anyone know which is the nearest tube station to the Science Museum .. I'd best start planning my route
Apparently, South Kensington has a walkway from the station to the museum
Cool, thanks Chris :)
Apparently there is a bus that stops nearby that passes most of the train stations.
Ah, I'm taking my car and want to park up somewhere and get the tube in for the rest of the journey
I'm off to a wedding today :)
Anyone up to anything fun?
So why is spc.com taking ten years to load but the lclt instantly? Quite strange.
Oh, and morning all
I am having a day of sitting about not doing much. At least that's what I think at the moment!
Morning All
Morning everyone. no rain as yet, still cold though. drove us through a lock this morning, and later we almost ran over a duck. we also almost drifted down the wrong turn of a fork in the river, and i had to jump ashore and pull us back. and all before 11am!!
I thought the point of holidays is to relax!
That's exactly how my day panned out today.
Darn, I appear to have strained my neck. Grr
so you could have ended up in say oxford instead of Bristol?
Snap!
Oh no not really ;)
Did you sneeze in a lift?
hehe, it is relaxing. listening to podcasts stood at the front of the boat, its like there's no one else in the universe!
'cept page 22 of course. i mailed a pic to the drop but it might take a while to come through :)
Me too! :D
:)
Hope he isn't going to be on the top of the barge. That isn't safe apparently ;)
What thrill! What adventure! :P
WooHoo Page 22 on the barge!
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/1239444485065
Nice!
Listening to David Tennant and Catherine Tate sitting in for Jonathan Ross on Radio 2 :)
:D
Good morning folks
Difficult to drag myself out of bed this morning, watching old Top Gear on Dave
Another inspired What The Duck today
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/what-the-duck-154-jpg
Reminds me of Kryten and his lack of zoom function.
we've all been there ;)
Rather interesting Icelandic 4x4 buggies, driving on water
I was lying in bed doing nothing
haha awesome
That works very well, wasn't expecting that!
I see Autosport "exclusively" revealing that Kimi is now the only person who is not a GPDA member. DC said this during the race a week ago!
To be fair, I wouldn't have heard that. But yeah, 'exclusively' may be a tad too excessive. Still, a good show of unity. Kimi's too disinterested to care much, anyway.
You mean AUTOSPORT?
haha true
I’m surprised Sutil is so high up… {Comment #28}
He finished 9th one race and 15th in the other. The 9th being in the full-length race. This means he's outscoring a lot of people who finished fairly well in Malaysia but went out of/ seriously underperformed in the Australian Grand Prix.
Kovalainen is rubbish? {Comment #46}
I think it's more "Kovalainen has trouble with first laps". Though to be fair, Vettel needed four goes to get to the end of lap 1 ion 2008 and look what happened to him afterwards...
I see Autosport “exclusively” revealing that Kimi is now the only person who is not a GPDA member. {Comment #88}
So when did Felipe Massa rejoin and Adrian Sutil join? I missed those developments...
By the way, does anyone know of any good pubs or similar in the Silverstone area?
True, but then, you could afford to give Vettel the benefit of the doubt given his form at the end of 2007. How many times was Kovi super-quick in 2008?
Isn't the Mark Webber pub nearby? Not sure, though.
Probably in the last month or so? Alonso and Webber probably talked to them.
Is anyone watching A1GP Quali, BTW? :)
I am now ;)
Any feeds?
Can't manage to find any online video feeds - A1GP website video is buffering too much. :( Settling for the audio for now. Why did Switzerland run into problems?
On the A1GP site if you can get it
Isn't Luizzi meant to be really good, ie better than 10th?
He used his powerboost during sprint quali to take pole there.
Ah right, you can tell I missed that bit ;)
Haha! Yep. But it's another F1 veteran - Doornbos - who takes pole. You know, he's pretty handy in non-F1 motorsport. He did well in Champ Car and he's doing well here.
Team GBR's worst year to date, too.
We don't really have any stand out drivers
Is it Turvey driving now? Where is Robbie Kerr now, anyway? Methinks Button would've ended up here if Brawn GP didn't make it back in Feb.
Nope, I can't get it. You will all have to keep me filled in on here. ;)
No idea, Kerr was canny good. would be great if they could presuade someone like di Resta in. Its not as if he's doing much
It's done. Liuzzi took pole for Italy in the Sprint. Doornbos took pole for the Netherlands in the Feature. Jani and Switzerland had problems all day - will start from the back for the Sprint, had a brilliant 1-lap attempt in the Feature quali to start 3rd.
True. But he's in DTM, right?
How did Australia go?
I don't think he's been confirmed yet, but that doesn't start till May still
Lower midfield, I think. Didn't hear anything on them from Edwards and Watson.
12th in Feature qually
There ya go - lower midfield, alright.
Same as always. ;)
Goodnight all.
Night Sean
The Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA) has succeeded in boosting its membership numbers by convincing previous high-profile sceptics, including Felipe Massa and Adrian Sutil, to join the organisation, AUTOSPORT can reveal.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74406
Listening to F1 Rejects - Malaysia - and traveling into Lewis Hamilton's mind. Very funny, utterly brilliant! :D
I've got so many podcasts to catch up on, I still haven't heard the three they released from Melbourne yet!
To keep R.G happy :) Hey to everyone in this daily thread :)
Wow, the days are just flying by lately aren't they?
Time flies when you're having fun! :D But we're in for an interesting week.
Just woke up and checked BATracer. I guess I did better than the real Force India, but now my settings are wrong and I'm starting in 9th... Force India is not a lucky team.
oops just realised the last 20 comments have been on yesterdays thread
Don't worry, they've been doing that all day
All devout people are living in the past really
Ah well, I'm easily amused, that'll keep me occupied all evening
hi to daily thread, 11/04/2009.
I just realised what I've liked about the F1 coverage this year. I am yet to see the guy in the Ferrari garage that I have an irrational hatred for, for no particular reason. I hope he's a victim of the recession.
I have to see his face everytime I log on to fantasy racers though, grrr
Hello proper daily thread :D
Maybe they are just missing reading Christine's words
i think i may have concluded that doohickey is unfixable. if the daily threads have a different background colour to other threads, they still won't be distinguishable from each other.
we might be doomed to life of shuffling comments around :(
What about just having the current daily thread a different colour?
Could you not create a pop up saying, 'Are you sure you want to post in a none Daily thread'?
Oh dear, as if you don't have enough to do already
That could get annoying - would it say 'sponsored by Vista' too?
Kat has consented to joining in the Page 22 phenomenon... Especially as she got to share a Magnum with Page 22:
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/katandpage22enjoyamagnum-jpg
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/katandpage22enjoyamagnum2heshadabite-jpg
oooh. that might work.
:D
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
now i want a magnum :(
If its any consolation, they are really tasty.
gah!
:)
How about... And I don't want to make this too complicated but... You know the dropdown of thread choices on the LCLT... You could have that say "Don't ask me about posting to this thread"... And when a new thread arrives you could switch that to today's thread?
Do they not do delivery Magnum?
Wait till flibster arrives and suggests something better
well, the ice-cream man does. but only about 4pm daily.
I still like my idea of having a comment box in the top corner and you can have a drop down of the last few threads, with the latest daily always on top?
My favourite Easter offering so far at Cake Wrecks
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/cakewrecks-blogspot-com-jpg
that is planned, maybe i should bring that foward.
Chocolate ice cream with chocolate flakes on top with a hint of strawberry sauce
I got some Caramel Choclaote biccies earlier
It is probably the best solution if the colour system doesn't work.
but how would you reply to people?
I think actually, although I have no statistical info, that R.G. is probably on to something... I reckon it's when people are writing new comments / changing the subject that it most often goes wrong. People just go to whatever is at the top and reply to that.
I have some salt and vinegar crisps
You could have both right?
Easy, there will still be a reply button to end of each persons, so it quotes what he/she says
yeah. bassano's daily-colour idea, plus a new-comment box might just work.
Could the reply box have a drop down of which thread to post on?
yup. there is a screenshot kicking around which basically shows that. if i can find it, i'll drop.io it.
Myself and a friend once convinced someone that Salt & Vinegar and then Prawn cocktail were the most favoured crisps 'up north' and in the South East it was Ready Salted :)
We weren't even drunk, it was just funny at the time - I've no idea why
I hope everybody saw this:
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/1239455362647
Page 22 is navigating these days!
Afternoon everyone. Work was a lovely mixture of good personal hard work and an unlimietd amount of frustration beyond human limits. Could rant about so much right now but wont.
Hope you've all had a good day so far
Hey Lukeh
I've had a nice relaxing day. Sorry about the frustration thing!
Lukeh, nice to see you.
making it's way to rockall?
Hey Lukeh
A close second, though less seasonal
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/cake-wrecks-goat-jpg
Heads up.
BBC4 7.00pm - 8.30pm
Looks like I'm gonna have to catch it on iPlayer. Doctor who on and then I'm going out.
iPlayer for me. Damn that Doctor.
Never got into the newest lot of Dr Who, its just not got that oh lets hide behind the sofa quality any more
Me neither, looks like 12 year olds telly to me but plenty of friends like it. I just have no idea why
I think the ones written by Stephen Moffat are excellent hide behind the sofa material. He is also show running the new series from next year so you might prefer them. I don't know if you have a way of downloading them to see an example but the episode Blink for example was by him and was about some statues which could move only when you closed your eyes. Whatever you do, don't blink...
And to certain people just hearing the phrase "Mummy, Mummy, Are you my mummy" said in a certain way is chilling to the bone.
Steven not Stephen... Whoops...
He wrote these episodes:
The Empty Child (21 May 2005) - Writer (written by)
The Doctor Dances (28 May 2005) - Writer (written by)
The Girl in the Fireplace (6 May 2006) - Writer (written by)
Blink (9 June 2007) - Writer (written by)
Silence in the Library (31 May 2008) - Writer (written by)
Forest of the Dead (7 June 2008) - Writer (written by)
The first two and Blink being the scariest but they are all good.
Blink was a superb episode. My favourite actually.
The most recent sci-fi I was into was Stargate-SG1 but I'll probably go to the cinema to watch the latest Star Trek movie
I'm hoping the IMAX show it, have heard really good things from the early showings
I would say that Doctor Who does have childish moments... And the specials are the worst examples because they are trying to be all things to all people. But yeah check them out.
I too will be watching Star Trek like the big geek that I am :)
They are showing it.
I found a clip about it today, it looked good
http://www.startrekmovie.com/
http://www.bfi.org.uk/whatson/bfi_imax/coming_soon/star_trek_the_imax_experience
Bah, moderated
This looks awesome too

I see Kimi is coming to London to officially open the Ferrari store. I'm sure he'll be very charismatic ;)
For sure
ooh, any idea when?
I wonder if he'll rush back to that club that kicked him out a few years ago. Was that in London? ;)
May 6
april 15th would've been more convenient!
Hmm, just before Spanish GP
*sigh* why are these things always during school time. lol
cos Kimi doesn't go to school? ;)
fair enough. lol
Top Gear seem to think so:
Cutting the inaugural ribbon on May 6th will be Ferrari F1 driver Kimi Räikkönen – who’s probably just hoping that some marketing-type will come up with Ferrari ice cream by then – the Wednesday before the Spanish Grand Prix.
We expect he’ll be out in one of the capitol city’s, erm, gentleman’s clubs that evening, so make sure your membership to a Stringfellow establishment is up-to-date.
Stringfellows, I ws thinking he'd be heading to spearmint rhino! :D
Ooh, 1st Saturday's still available
Then it will crash all the time!
If Olivia Munn keeps twittering about how her favourite thing in life is a massage, I might just have to unsubscribe ;)
Who's Olivia Munn?
I know not of this Olivia Munn.
This is not the Olivia Munn you are looking for.
Oh, you should Google [images]
She does a tech/games show called 'Attack of the Show'
AOTS! w00t! :D
That was surprisingly prescient...
http://www.terminally-incoherent.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/olivia_munn_6.jpg
See what I mean!
LOL Olivia Munns Juno Spoof
Heading out .. going to the bingo with my neighbour (someone shoot me!) .. catch you all later
byee jackie, enjoy!
Bye Jackie, good luck, raise some money for SidepodAid
:D
Enjoy, catch ya later
Hahaha Finding Nemo is on BBC1 now before Dr Who. The seagulls are so cool.
Mine! Mine! Mine!

KERS ON FIRE
by KINGS OF (SEAT) LEON
"The dark of the alley
The breaking of day
Ahead while I'm driving
I'm driving (an F1 car)
And you, Your KERS is on fire
Concerned, That it might suddenely electrocute everybody and get banned by the FIA even though it helps save the environment and provides a 80bhp boost for six seconds per lap..."
Mine!
Giggles. Your needed here.
Brilliant. Nice work! :D And yes, Giggles is needed to interpret these lyrics. :P
So how is the BBC going to get Formula 1 into Doctor Who I wonder?
We all know Bernie is an evil lord from outer space with mind bending powers that cause mega confusion so im sure they'll get an Bernie enemy into the world of the Doctor somehow
GT Academy about to start on Dave
All the things start at the worst time
Can anyone find a video of the KERS Ferrari with smoke coming out of it from quali?
Jackie Stewart documentary on BBC4 now.
Its on drop.io is it not?
Is it? I don't see it... I may well be blind though.
Just as I say it I find it... whoops!
Evening everyone, what's the good word? :)
evening :)
liuzzi took pole in his a1gp debut:
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21360.html
We half live commented that earlier, gbr are rubbish now
sorry, missed that. gbr are rubbish now? when was they good?
last year, year before
i've no recollection of us succeeding :)
since when have italy been any good though?
never
We had come third in every season before this one.
i do pay attention, i do!
If anyone saw the programme Willie's Chocolate Revolution on Channel 4 earlier this week, I managed to find his Peruvian 70 San Martin bars in Waitrose this morning. I looked yesterday but there wasn't any there, but I was rather excited when I found it in the chocolate section. His uses cacao beans from Venezuela, mainly, and Peru. Basically, his kind of chocolate is what proper chocolate is. It is really, really nice :D
www.venezuelan-black.co.uk
Everything on his site is sold out, but if you have a Waitrose near you at all, look in there. They take supply of his bars and cooking chocolate. :)
Is the racing any good?
Yeah, pretty decent, its at the new Algarve track so im watching to see what its like
Dr who rocked! Although I must say I really can't wait for Russell T Davies to stand down from being head writer after the specials
Yeah, was pretty good, next one looks good 'Water Always Wins'
Wouldn't mind getting my comment out of moderation would you, Mr C? :)
Right, I'm off to get some food, see ya in a bit folks
job done :)
*waves at anyone whos still here*
*waves back whilst waiting for Red Dwarf*
*waves* I'm here, just watching BGT :P
*gives slight wave* hi...
Same here, stunned at that woman then
how are you feeling lou?
*waves*
Have been watching the Jackie documentary.
i have a very bad head ache still :( but it's better than it was. :)
oh :( i just checked iplayer... doesn't look like they are going to put the Jackie documentary on it.. :(
hope you feel better soon, leats its improving :D
Thats a shame about jackie... maybe theyre putting it up now as it's just gone off? *clutches straws*
:(
And jolly brilliant it was too. Possibly the best thing I've seen on TV for months.
Jim Clark next week on BBC4 at 19.00 and then Graham Hill the week after that.
Is a bit early, maybe they will later
they normally put coming soon.. but instead it says not available...
damn... really wanna see it. I found the graham hill one really inspiring and compelling to watch...
Have seen the Graham Hill one a few times now. Didn't somebody put it on drop.io?
via steveintheuk on identi.ca, some crazy chinese copycats.
I reckon I could listen to JYS talk 'til the cows come home.
For what it's worth, the DVD that comes with his biography contains most of the footage that was shown this evening. I can thoroughly recommend the book as well.
Oh it's repeated at 01:15am for those that missed it!
I just saw that, just... wow
Ding ding we have a winner! :D
have set it to record :D thanks dank :)
That dance group Flawless on BGT was literally 5 pints of awesomeness :D
Schumacher song!!
I've fallen for that Jackie Stewart video link on BBC F1's homepage for the 4th time now...
Evening people. :D
'Borrowed' the wireless connection for a little while again.
Anything interesting happening?
Do people seek out randoms to follow them on twitter or am I being paranoid?
Maybe it's a six degrees of separation kinda thing
yep they do. usually they do it to get more followers (on the assumption you'll follow, if they're following you).
Olivia Munn was introduced to the SPC followers
[not before time IMHO]
Attention seekers
just catching up meself. looking like a quite day in greendale.
*googles*
Princess Leia Gold bikini... Nice... :D
it's all about the SEO innit? twitter's a bit powerful in that regard.
Looking for blog followers when word of mouth fails
Red Dwarf time + cup of tea [reverse order, methinks]
o_O at Red Dwarf so far...
Hey folks, am back, night out included no singing before we get into that again.
I'm back also .. god bingo is boring
Ummmm.... Ok...
Enjoying have the boys from the dwarf back - but it's very odd so far
mind you, my neighbour probably thinks its boring being on the internet
Yeah.... not sure what to make of that episode.
Win any money?
Nice homages to Bladerunner :D
Who needs subtlety
Get your neighbour to watch a live debrief ;)
Subtlety not needed for Blade Runner homages. You can do them straight out.
Ah, think she's more into the gee gee's
Whilst not full of belly laughs, this return has been better than I expected, so far
Oh ok, a sport that exists solely for betting purposes
It's delightful seeing the characetrs abck and they haven't forgotten how to do them at all, it's just the story is a bit... bizarre, even for RD's standards
I still cant believe that it's 21 years old!
I'm wondering if they're testing the waters with this story line to see if there's enough interest for a full series
Though, a uk series is only twice as long as this weekend's offerings :(
UK TV needs a bigger budget
They went to the BBC with the idea of a full series - but they turned them down saying that "Sci Fi isn't in their core demographic"
Ummm.. Dr Who?
you could've live commented the action?
What action? .. lots of little old ladies out with their felt pens, exciting!
Just dabbed a number
Didnt have that one
...nope
Oooh 42. Its been dabbed.
....not got that
etc
:D
Red Dwarf isn't watched by 14 year olds?
It was when I was at school
LOL :D
Coming down the ramp, whats going to be, whats it going to be, ITS 77. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT? This is simply unbeleivable
We got someone calling, its an old lady in a grey top, looking at the overhead cam, ooh, good call, brilliant strategy there, wouldn't have done it without her friend with the house strategy
RG, I think you've found your calling :)
Man what is with the setup changes on BATracer? I can';t understand how thats happened at all... all the sessions are dry?
I can't believe I got pole in my 2nd race!
Oooh wonder if Christine has read Jo Sawards pop at Bourdais? http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/04/11/a-quiet-easter/
Well done! :D
We've got a comment pending investigation, oooh, what will the mods do with that. I hear hes been caught cutting links, he could be in real trouble here.
We've got word that he has escaped the mod queue, luck call for Bassano
Hmmm - Dwarf over... bored now....
i think she's gone off him.
bourdais that is, not joe. and after all the support we gave the guy pre-season.
So if I mention Bourdais in the panel im likely to get negatives now?
good question... not sure.
you can never gor wrong with Franck remember!
Was any more said about doing a panel of sorts at the science museum?
maybe Rob has taken his place now?
I can do an impression of him
I think it depends if we can find somewhere quietish to go - even better if it has caffine there. :D
Felipe Baby, stay cool :)
Still makes me laugh
Oooh. I left QI in the dvd drive of the laptop - that'll do
Has a meeting place been prescribed yet, or are we gonna decide closer to the time?
By the A340 main gear in the entrance way was the last place that I know of...
I think we're meeting by the large aircraft landing gear.
I thought someone was going to find out about a cafe within the museum?
"Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry"
I thought it was the McLaren near one of the cafes?
Seems there's no definitive answer yet
we can do a chat. but there will be no pinging.
landing gear i think is the meeting place, cause it's huge.
I'm sticking with 'somewhere in london'
that MAY be too vague though.
Cool, time?
I should just look at the wiki I s'pose
Do what someone else suggest the other day, get a Gavin
:D
Theres a possibility the McLaren is no longer there...
Someone else had a problem with it. Can't remember who or what though.
Plus, as that in the middle of the building, phones may not work.
Probably meeting by this now
ummm, 1pm i believe. don't quote me though.
Make both of you happy. Play internet bingo.
Evening world
I'll quote the wiki
"Mid-day/1pm ish Sidepodtime"
So, 1pm sounds good
Good evening Mr Roy
brilliant!
Hey Steven
Evening Steven
Good Evening Steven.
evening!
Yay, have just read that the new series of Weeds is returning soon.
Gotta be the best show on TV in my reckoning
Superb!
Still have to watch Series 2.... *oops*
America is producing some good shows at the moment. Dexter, Reaper, Chuck, Weeds....
In fact, I'm gonna watch series 4 again before it starts, I think
I'm going on a chocolate hunt
Dexter is good, am midway through S3
Check out True Blood with Anna Pacquin and Lies with Tim Roth - also good
:D
Another shops trek? :D
No just round the house ..I've found a twirl :)
Down the back of the couch? ;)
In the biscuit tin.
Thank god... ;)
Do you think the diffuser 3 have another floorplan design ready for China just in case the decision goes against them
I meant, Lie to Me
Starts on Sky One "later in the spring"
good question.
i guess it depends how confident they are. but you always gotta have a plan-b, right?
Maybe on the drawing board, I really can't see it being outlawed when F1 is this good at the moment
"Spirit of the law" is a crappy whinge - defence, I mean.
I doubt it.
I bet the other 7 teams have been working on a double diffuser in case it's passed legal
I think Brawn do, Ross isn't stupid and he had the diffuser discussion with other teams this time last year so plenty of time to be prepared just in case...
Probably, like how the rest might have a plan b for if it goes in favour
But can they come up with an Uuber double decker diffuser?
Although i dont think theya ctually have it made for the car I should say, thatw as far too vage of an answer :(
Apparently if you look at the Brawn from underneath - you can see some of the suspension... You should only be able to see floor.
That makes it decidely against the rules, but for an entirely different reason to the double decker diffuser reason.
Hasn't the McLaren got a cut away floor? I remember seeing pictures at testing of it
Nope, Ross isn't stupid. So I doubt he would have put that diffuser on the car if there was a chance it was illegal.
Thats fine though - you can't see anything but floor from underneath. There is nothing above the cut-out
They will have one without the diffuser and the others will be doing their best to have one with.
they do and so do rbr, but a cutaway is different from a hole drilled through the middle, which is what i'm assuming flibster is suggesting?
The spirit of the law has never applied in F1 and never will
Pretty much.
Exactly, unless it's "Ferrari must win" ;)
I have a vague recollection of reading that Ferrari has a whole in its floor
Anyone else see this ome.
A Honda official confirmed that their F1 team was sold for....
£1!
25 pence each
I could have topped that offer by rummaging down the back of the sofa
but would you be able to pay for the running of the team? :P
The problem was finding the 8 million or so that Mercedes wanted for the engines
Remember that's just the down payment. You then have to find several more pounds just to feed the electricity meter. Then a few more to run the staff canteen. It can get out of control very quickly.
Didn't we know that before they were sold?
Why would I have to?
Honda dished over £100 million if the stories are true
very very stupid question here.. but who has been underneath the car to know?.... presumably Brawn employees wouldn't go broadcasting it if it were illegal?..
Hmm, that is a bit of a problem. I offered them a 80's mullet wig, a duvet and £26.21 but nope.
Evening Andy
Where is the hole in the Brawn? You must be able to see the suspension from below - it holds the wheels onto the car.
Looks like you really can't run a team on the spirit of dreams
but that wont run the whole team for years in the future.
I didn't think the shadow plate applied to suspension. To stop downforce being generated a rule was introduced years ago that looking from under the car the only thing that culd be seen was the floor or shadow plate. If you look at the floor where the mirrors are for eaxmple a little mirror shaped piece of floor will stick out.
I thought suspension was exmpt from this rule because it has to go all the way to the wheel and obviosly you can't have the floor in contact with the wheel. I don't know how the area of suspension that is allowed to be exposed is defined though.
You mean thats not your natural hair?!
From what I gather its vidible either side of the plank - so it's well inboard.
Blast, I've been foiled once again!
Some stupid woman jumped into the polar bear enclosure at Birmingham zoo. Fortunately she was pulled out before the bears got serious about eating her.
Natural selection failed. :(
Birmingham has a zoo?
If it is anywhere near the plank it is massively illegal
According to ITV news.
http://www.birminghamzoo.com/
Well that's news to me, maybe I should get out more
That's some mighty strong evidence, only McLaren could deny that one!
So many jokes....
No pandas in Brum though
Perhaps not to the zoo though.
I don't know. Their logo is not convincing
they have red pandas apparently....
Birmingham, Alabama
Jean Todt?
Although he was more of a red squirrel...
Aha!
:D
Look more ginger to me
They are not so cute
I wasn't paying attention to the news. I only heard Birmingham and saw what looked like someone fishiing for polar bears with a woman as bait. Aparently Dudley has a zoo though
Apparently:
panda is an anglicisation of poonya, which means "eater of bamboo"
What, Dudley, California?
:D
Nope. Dudley as in Lenny Henry http://www.dudleyzoo.org.uk/
Yep.
It was a joke
aww i dunno... they look pretty cute
oookay the link doesn't work... try this http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/red-panda-jpg
aww it looks like a big sleepy fox :)
It worked for me
Does anyone else not find it strangely fasciantion looking at old photos of your town/city and comparing them to now? I'm reading a book about the history of the city i live in and it just seems so wierd how different it all looks 50-100 years ago...
I like little things like that :)
Still trying to break the internet Lou? ;)
Your mobile still holding out?
The High St next to me used to have a tram running down the middle of it, that was a pleasant surprise
We used to have one massive sunday market, nowadays, its almost nothing. Quite sad really, only things thats really been here for a long, long time
I remember when this was all fields.
i have a lovely new mobile :) with internet... and that seems fine :)
Where I am was fields 15 years ago.
:D
That's why I was asking :D
ooooh :D
The castle on the riverfront here was several buiuldings in 1900, how it's a single tower because of modernisation and bulding of roads etc. Quite sad :(
On holiday we stayed in a 'period' hotel up in the hills of Northern Arizona, it looked a bit Deadwood-like and we asked when it was built
The guy at the check-in desk quite proudly said, around 1900
He was a bit shocked when both of said "Yeah, my place is about that old too" :D
This is why Americans love Bath so much.
I thought they preferred showers?
:D
I thought that was Australians, who seem to have something against re-using their already meagre water supply. Here in the UK, Londoners drink what Reading residents drank some days before. This water in turn has already passed through the people of Oxford...
I love the sotry about the American tourists who go to Cambridge. Standing at one of the gates to one of the colleges one says "Gee honey, this looks like it was here before the war"
The porter on the gate replies
"Madam, it was here before America" :D
:D Classic. Both informative and insulting all at once :D
I thought the water tasted...well educated :P
WOOO! Data speed record for norfolk happening as I type this - 36kb/s
Nice!
I was onced asked in the town centre, by an American tourist, where Oxford university was. I didn't have the heart to explain so I just pointed them in the direction of the nearest college knowing they would be suitably impressed
Evening all, just come back from a lovely wedding....
How is everyone? Anyone been up to anything exciting?
Any news?
james allen has uploaded an awful, awful video to youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWOTDQLSgdM
argh, my ears just bled.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74409
Ross Brawn's old mate Rory Byrne talking about diffusers and holes in the floor. He says the diffusers are illegal.
Yeah, Hamilton quit McLaren. Expected to join either Red Bull or Brawn GP as tester
Aussies are quite progressive these days in their use of grey water, I don't think you can build a new house now without capturing some of it
At 11?
What happened, it wasn't an Irish one then?
See, i read that and thought...."it's likely that he's joking....but i better just check" :P
yknow my comment about james...
well... we all make mistakes!
All I can say is a) Why? and b) do you think the dials on the Brawn steering wheel go all the way up to 11?
aha no, the wedding finished hours ago but i've been out socialising since
Oh how I miss him.
But my aim is improving. ;)
Oh dear! What is that??
how did someone of darren heath's calibre get roped into that piece of....?
im tempted to leave you a voicemail of a johnathon legard impersonation I got plauded for today now after seeing that james allen video...
James Allen is a really good writer. Why doesn't he just stick to writing instead of THAT.
why... just why :(
:D
Well, better make sure, might be funny if you didn't believe it when true and when China comes...
Ahhhh, go-wan, go-wan, go-wan
money?...
i think maybe he doesn't have good friends to turn to for advice :(
LPG says it's like a GCSE media project.
He knows Dave Ryan too?
Oi, our stuff is much better than that
agreed
nil points.
:D
Just saw F1.com's Sepang video review - awesome! though the first song is poor but the second is inspired ;) and Im glad they made good use of the team radio talk
In what way? Nil points for JA or LPG?
Phone now. Do it before you sober up
From Britain's got Talent. Yes I know. Funniest thing I have seen in ages.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4fPHt0FjEU
allen, clearly. i mark him with a big red 'x' and suggest he must try harder next term.
Dont you think he tried too hard? ;)
I've seen better Tena Lady adverts, stick to the blog James - for the love of YouTube!
I think I'd prefer it if he didn't try at all. Have left comment on the video suggesting it is best viewed without sound.
:D
Ohh dear that probably came out very badly on the phone but never mind :D
Oh yes, am looking forward to that
Thats quite genius, i love it
That's great stuff. Shame it's ruined by the presence of Cowell and Moron.
:D
Now, this is the real reason why ITV don't get any licence fee money and are in financial crisis with advertisers leaving by the droves
Now my retinas are burned with the site of a 12 year olds moobs
Where's the merlot?
quite possibly!
man flailing arms about was the best
Was it anything like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dxf6keoYV0
That's a great piece, never fails to amuse
As great as that is, i can't explain it any more than 'he was waving his arms about to music'
that 100% sums up the act
Has any other one hit wonder ever got so much out of one song. She has done nothing in years but I here that song every where I go.
i have two of her albums :(
Plus it was a cover.
One album full of Torn is bad enough but two?
Not quite a one hit wonder but certainly a one-album enigma
It was a cover too, probably helps that she's pretty darn cute to boot.
I stood next to her at a cash machine in Chelsea and had no idea who she was until my friends pointed out she was in neighbours.
[Had just cut her hair short before the music career]
It is a good song, sadly, the only one she's released
she has songs.
Apparently so
According to IMDB she is also one of Villeneuve's exes, so there's an F1 connection too :)
did he work his way through the whole cast or somthing??
Everyone except Harold and Bouncer probably.
His only Aussie ex I know of was Dannii Minogue
I don't know, that and blackmail would explain the singing
she was in neighbours. not that i watched of course. i just heard.
Of course, I preferred Home & Away myself - Melissa George
I was a student. It was expected of me. I was trying to fit in
It didn't work
Dannii Minogue was in Home and Away. Her sister whatshername was in Neighbours. Whatever happened to the sister anyway?
you chose melissa over kimberley davies?
dannii was in both. i swear.
i mean, people tell me that anyhow. damnit where's christine when i need her?
I'm googling very quickly here
Kimberly was afterwards.
She wasn't forgotten. I remember when she appeared on The Big Breakfast with Zig & Zag, I think I still have that on VHS somewhere :)
i wouldn't bother, you can bet jacques already been there.
haha
wasn't she in the jungle recently? not that i watch celebrity. people tell me.
IMDB says otherwise
The jungle thing, I don't watch. Not even for Kimberly, though I was tempted by Mylene & the waterfall
fair enough. i had a feeling she started in one and hopped over to the other.
i mean, obviously, that's what people tell me, anyhow.
Melissa George was in Alias, Kimberley needs to leave the antipodean shores to join Jim Robinson in the conquering of Hollywood
Lolol
Well at least I have even less idea who these people are than usual....
It could be worse though - me could be having to admit to a sam fox CD in the collection.....
She started in The Sullivans, sorta
[Now that was a dull show]
kimberley was in an episode of freinds.
i know that without even imdb'ing it.
We merely borrowed one. Repeat: borrowed and returned.
Are you taking Christine's place tonight in shouting... who? ;)
vinyl, 12", picturedisc.
what??
:D :D
*whistles innocently*
was it framed before you borrowed it, or only on it's return?
CHristine is going to be so embarrassed and the level we drop to when she is not here. How did we go from starting a religion last night to Aussie soap opera actresses tonight?
Flibster, No?
Trust me, this is an excellent read. I'm loving it
she will also get a slightly confused jothathon legard on her vociemail too, which doesnt help
Every religion has it's highs and lows
:D
Ummmm...
It does fit perfectly into my collection of crap singles and albums. :D
oh dear. let us raise the quality of conversation somewhat. he actually still owns a vinyl picturedisc, and what is it of?
Must drop.io Mr C, ASAP
:D :D
That was supposed to be Lukeh's email
I can't post comments
Strange. Now it works.
i have no idea what the skype logon is. it'll keep until next sunday though. when luke's forgotten about it.
I wasn't getting blocked too
I think there's a Sam Fox force field
*WAS*
doohickey has issues with wordpress single and double quotes. i have fixed it locally but been tied up with bandwidth probs and have yet to release a fix. soz.
Nothing wrong with picturediscs
I guess so. The CD we borrowed was not framed - before or after. Its owner now lives in Australia. It is not clear if he moved there out of shame.
You should get a tattoo with "it's on the list" :D
i totally did not write that quote. it should have read:
WHO actually owns and picturedisc, and what is it of?
Let's assume that he did
I haave lots.
I thinkDoohickey is becoming sentient, is this a Star Trek episode?
do tell.
I may have a Queen one somewhere.
What on earth is a picturedisc?
I bought Vinyl limited editions years before I owned a turntable again
[Sadly, 90's indie isn't that collectable yet]
It's a record with a picture on it.
And how long ago was this?
Christine has multiple personalities tonight! ;)
A 12" [usually] record with a picture on the surface instead of a plain, black colour. Usually limited and can be of some worth down the line
SOme time in the late 20th Century
Most of the Queen ones - including the bootleg ones...
Marc Almond
I may have the Sam Fox one.....
you can still buy them :)
Not THAT long ago. Still making them in the nineties and probably now if you look hard enough
no, they are called "CD's"
...
never heard of them
scissor sisters recently released one... apparently.
What is this CD you speak of?
Is it like an mp3?
Erm... what are you talking about??
yes, but bigger and rounder and not as good quality....a bit like a record but better :D
Oi, what happened to Family Friendly, no swearing here please! :D
Not possible, are you some kind of alchemist?
are they that bad? bizarre falsetto i'll grant you.
I do have Paul MCartney - We All Stand Together. :D
Anyone hear the edition of Jammin' on Radio 2 where they did a Bee Gees song in the style of Pink Floyd?
is it shaped like a frog?
I still have some casettes recorded from... erm never mind
Anyway, I still need to digitalise them, somehow
That's worse than admitting to the Sam Fox disc.
the worst bit of musical swearing I heard was when I once got told by someone in school 'Did The Who cover that song by McFly then, pinball wizard?'
Sad times :(
Nope. Got Macca and Rupert on it.
www.itunes.com
Cassette player into Mac line in - record with Garageband or Audacity.
No, but I have a dub reggae cover version of Radiohead's OK Computer.
Is actually very good
omg!
Danii was never in neighbours. ;)
My mum recently asked me to show her how to record CD's on to cassettes....even the old music system thing in our house (which has cassette recorders in it) didnt want to do it. Thats like uninstalling Vista because XP is bett...oh wait, bad example :D
I've got the Reggae version of Dark side of the moon - thats fantastic.
Seen them do it live as well.
WHAT?! Get the pitchforks, where ganning to make some people learn real music
And about 45 hours of free time!
Plus, indexing time!
how odd. i guess that my informants must've watched home and away too :(
Thats very sad... :(
Manessah show on Kiss FM, circa 1992 - about a years worth
There is a story about the new BBC executive who got all excited about a great book called "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" and how it would make a great radio show.
too? does that imply you watched it?
Bad enough
*weeps a tear*
:D
no. as in... as well as neighbours.
Microsoft have announced that if you buy a WIndows 7 licence, you can downgrade to Vista or XP!
Can I join you
I thought Windows 7 was meant to be better?!
goodness... i go away from the comments for what must have been half an hour and i've so many comments to catch up on...
What?
Better than what? Windows 3.11?
I wouldn't bother, some people talking about aussie celebs who have went out with jaques villeneuve
bbc micro.
My mum doesn't understand that a video player's controls use very similar principles to a tape player
I think the bright lights distract her
Let's not get into the VDV player
could be worse....i went away for 20 minutes yesterday and they formed their own religion...
Easy-All Stars - Dub side of the moon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dub_Side_of_the_Moon
:D :D :D
maybe im thinking of Windows 8, or something, meh, i stand by the fact that Vista is appauling but i'm proud to say that i have it anyway!
your dvd player's diseased?
Don't you have some Daily post to be writing?
oh right. maybe i wont then ;) gone are the days where i would come in from school and have a humble 100 comments to catch up on. Now move from the computer for so much as a minute and you've missed huge chunks of conversation :)
Than Vista
That's like saying Scientology is better than Satanism
:D
even though i did try to downgrade to XP when this lappy arrived....didnt work...boo
:D :D
I don't know what they're talking about!!
I've got that one too
this is waaay to much fun and i'm waay too drunk. i'll do it in the morrow, unless you fancy writing a collective one?
im not sure they do either tbh
Quality
'april 618th.. i LOVE you guys... you are the bestets friends in the whoooole europe... f1 iw the best!!!'
Oh dear.....
Are you sure that's a good idea? ;)
:D
maybe not. my day starts at mid-day so it can go up then.
:P
http://digg.com/d1hapq
:D :D
you have the digg bar??
Right - other half is dragging me off to bed now...
Tatty-bye!
ROFL LMFAO
night flibster.
Hello, and welcome to the Daily Post. (Dum dum, de dum). So what we got in the comments today?
- Some useless religion has been formed, bet it wont be any good, say is that a unicorn?
- Some diffuser appeal coming up, lets be honest, I dont give a damn, we all know what will happen
- Some meetup on Tuesday/Wednesday. I dont care cos I'm not going, so have fun at your little tinsy winsy science museum.
Thats it for today, if you are over obsessed with Mr C, do do me and page 22. I'll see you in the comments sometime this afternoon
night :)
Get's me everytime
niiiight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YsUwHu46-8
That is rubbish
Just followed a link, so no.
Night Mr. Flibster
Night Flibster.
oh. you are forgiven.
That's subjective, I like it and the original. In different moods
Sorry, was too lazy to find the cartoon on XKCD.
Argh...
its gone midnight, I'm watching The West Wing, and I still haven't got around to making the chocolate eggs for the morning.....
Do you think that the children will happily DIY?
As for cassettes - I have some with all sorts of stuff in that I can't buy on itunes so one day I will have to do it the long way.....
Electioneering [Radiohead cover]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc2_5qMj6BY
West Wing = The Dog's nadgers
[doffs hat]
Argh - and I even had an F1 thing to impart. But I've forgotten what it was now
LPG hangs head in shame...
Worth reposting for prosterity
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/better-than-vista-jpg
Do people like F1 here, I followed a religion link
i think you should make them now.
...and if there's any spare.
*posterity* obviously
Now I know why Christine won't let you have a Parade Lap until Europe :D
*hic*
:D
Mr C, I think it would be a good idea if Christine drives to the Science Museum meet-up
Remember the last one?
have totally ripped this comment from the autosport forums, but...
"Heikki may use one engine the whole year..."
:P
Loooollllll Not getting into chocolate making now... wireless connection is naff in the kitchen anyway...
As for spare... well that depends on whether you do chocolate as dark as we do here....
we're going by train. she is not driving that.
psst, Bahrain starts at 1 i think
Can a single engine do 17 laps?
:(
hehe. nice try ;)
Dark chocloate rules, unless you're talking about witchcraft choclolate - which I've never tried but would kinda like to
oooo, dark chocolate is lovely ;)
any choccy is yummy for my tummy!
What are you enjoying tonight
Me, it's Chilean Merlot
pass. it's not great stuff, i had to get it from the garage meself :(
Oh dear, I guess the tramps had run out then! ;)
what would you consider 'witchcraft' chocolate?
I can do raw, or from couverture, or just melt and pour/combine with other things like fruit.....
I can stick maca, suma, lucuma and/or purple corn in if that is the sort of thing you are thinking of though - but the unamed cola drink is possibly more effective for the sheer 'wake up' and speed of effect factors.... Although green juice would probably do that just as well...
I was just thinking 'really dark', but I'll go with any of those :D
:D
btw. formula 1 visa card anyone?
https://www.hypo.fi/visa.asp?hakemus=formula
after reading that, im gonna have to settle with... i just like to buy me a crunchie from the corner shop. :P
Didnt realise there was so many options like that!
Did you have to get it from the window and it was like trying to buy monster munch
"No, left, left. Not Pringles! MONSTER MUNCH"
hehehe. hehehe.
Was that Finnish, how drunk are you?
Or: Can I have a Mars bar (wait for attendant to get it) and a packet of crisps (next to Mars bars on other side of shop).
Chill tastic
http://www.last.fm/listen/artist/Radiodread/similarartists
Precisely
Those guys walk a marathon in a night, in 45 second bursts
was considering buying an engine.
;)
You've got a few glasses in you yet then ;)
so that's very drunk then ;)
Au contraire
Christine has nothing to worry about if Mr C googles Coworth engines while she's away :)
*watches bill bailey sing about asda*
as an iceland employee this pleases me :D
Ah so something in the region of 85% plus then :-)
I've got some 100% lying around here somewhere too - plus some of the 100% couverture produced as on a TV programme recently (it really is some of the best stuff around, a rare example of media hype that is the truth, lol).
We're going to be stocking the Ombar from Mood foods fairly soon as well (its a raw chocolate bar, with very very nice 'flavourings' and not as dark as raw choc tends to be, but tastes dark and is very nice too....) but for now I just 'make do' with diy on the raw front (cacao, cacao butter, agave, and mulberries or raisins or whatever...)
Which show?
BB is a west country genius
looks like tinselworm :)
You don't need more cogs
And how many bars are you bringing to the Science Museum?
You know, cos the others might want some too
But what about all the bits that aren't cogs?
:D
He will probably sell them to finance buying even more cogs.
There are other bits?
i have never knowingly paid for a cog.
Ok, Mr Clinton
Blimey, it's 1 o'clock
must be time to sleep. night all.
btw, you're me best mates, you are ;)
You're not so bad yerself, g'night
We heart you too :)
night :)
wow... this can't be happening.. Mr C is going to sleep before me?.. Night Mr C ;)
Less sleep, more falling into unconsciousness
hahah :)
rofl.... but how will I know who deserves chocolate, and who isn't a spc reader/contributor??
I'll find you, I can smell quality choco!
erk!!
What do you normally get fed that means you stay awake? What has been missing from the diet for the last 24 hours/?
I feel like I've walked into an episode of Doctor Who/Star Trek/something else with a rip in the space/time continuum
Whibble
Nacho withdrawl
*withdrawal*
Morning everyone.
Huh, Bernie says the teams don't want more than 17 races, but we had 19 recently, so they can't be that much against it.
Bernie's an idiot
Ditto.
bernie says lots of things
none of us take notice :D
Sleep at 1am? How much has he had to drink?
I think the ghost of Andy Warhol is masquerading as an F1 supremo for an artistic experiment
It's life Jim but not as we know it.
He bought it from the garage, I think it may have been part Night Nurse
Lukeh!
Ah, well if its alcohol induced sleep then the blood sugar low induced sleep will wear off and the alcoholic stimulant bit will kick in around 3 or 4am and he'll be wide awake again...
LPG just hopes it was a) a single format of alcohol to cut down on hangover potential and b) that me has OJ or oranges in the house so as to thwock the lack of vit C and fluid to alleviate anything that has occurred...
As for Bernie - I suspect that he may be suffering (well, more than usual, lol) from alcohol induced psychosis now that he has no one at home who says no and takes the bottle away....
Anyone here up to date with the latest (US) episodes of House?
One of the cast has left to join the Obama administration! Whoa
[No spoilers]
So that's why we crave kebabs after the pub!
Kids, try to go for the healthier Chicken Shish option
Bernie is indeed mr warhol...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/berniewarhol-jpg
Just like Marilyn
bernie has no time for anyone but himself :D
Well done.
Ooo nicely done!
One is enough! ;)
The blue one makes me think bernie is a smurf :D
There's one for each of his personalities!
He's not?
touche!
Just saw the polar bear thing again. It's Berlin zoo not Birmingham.
hahaha :D
Where the hell did Birmingham come from then?
Hmmm. Just because teams haven't gone down this path before, or in the past 15 years or so, doesn't mean it's illegal. More probably, no one was just smart enough to think of it.
I wasn't listening. I was playing on the internet with the TV on in the background. The incident is on youtube. Looks like someone fishing for polar bears
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHHIl2LkxRY
Well, I think this encapsulates it all
"The woman has proved herself to be careless by jumping into the enclosure," a police spokesman said afterwards. "Logic tells us that polar bears will do this type of thing in this situation."
Every time I go to youtube now I get panda clips on the front page.

Those people speaking German are no doubt saying: "what an idiot"
Have you guys been drinking? :D You've been wildly flinging from topic to topic more often than normal. :P
okay i'm off to bed now ;) night all.
:D
Mr C is in bed already, whadya reckon?
I'm saying the C stands for Cadbury
[as in: a glass and a half :) ]
G'night Lou
Already?!? But it's so early, especially by his standards. :P
Ha! :D
G'night Lou. :)
:D
It's an easy mistake to make
If anyone's interested in MotoGP, their new Moto2 class (which will replace the 250cc category) will have a single engine supplier. No confirmation yet as to who it will be.
I wonder if this will work, and if Max is keeping an eye on them.
Richard Cheese is a lounge genius
Only if you really like polar bears. ;)
Genius
http://www.last.fm/music/Richard+Cheese/_/Richard+Cheese+-+Ice+Ice+Baby
Yep.
As is
http://www.last.fm/music/Richard+Cheese/_/Creep
I liked the Depeche Mode cover myself.
Night all. :)
I retired in Sepang! Noooo!
Dang. Who won? Did we get half a race? ;)
Me too! :(
Al won followed by James Matthews - BMW 1-2. 7 retirements!
I'm not long up, been reading through the comments and having a bit of a giggle to myself. Ah well, it made me smile :D
Heh, I retired from the race and still came 14th!
Would've come 11th though...
Maybe Dr. Mario should hire them instead. ;)
And now I've just done practice for the next race. Crashed out twice and lost all my other laps because of needing to repair...
:(
Yep.
I think it helped that neither Brawns finished in the points
My aim to see Ferrari finish 5th in the constructors, which is pretty ambitious considering theres 6 faster teams than us... :P
The real Ferrari may not get that high, from the looks of things. ;)
My aim is to get at least one point this season, which is pretty ambitious since I'm in a Renault... :P
I think you'll manage to score 10-ish points. The Renault is slow, but not THAT slow. ;)
Yeah I can some consolation from that :)
Dan Brunell (Force India) said he wanted to score points before the real team did - he just got 7th ;)
Well done, Dan! Impressive stuff. :D
Yeah, but I've also never BATraced before, so that ain't going to help ;)
That's not bad.
You'll pick it up quickly, by the end of the season you'll be a pro ;)
Heh, we'll see.
On a completely unrelated note, what is the most amount of money you guys would ever consider spending pn a pair of sunglasses?
*on
Hmmm... 100 pounds, tops? :) Not sure if it's cheaper here, though. :D
Lets just say people fall over when I tell them how much mine cost
Hmm, good. I just wanted to know I wasn't going overboard.
If I wore sunglasses, I suppose I would want just one good pair - £100 ish?
Try us. :P
We seem to be in agreement, then. :)
Great minds... ;)
...think alike. ;)
Let me see how much they are at the moment in pound because AU$ won't mean much....
£320
You were right, I just fell off my chair...
Thats...substantial! What brand are they?
Aw dang! :O
Had them 2 years, hoping they'll do me another 20 haha
Substantial is putting it mildly. :P
Did you buy them from Jenson or something? ;)
More money than sense?
Louis Vuitton. I really don't have the income for such shopping!
At that price, you'd hope so!
OMG. Just... OMG. You must be crazily rich or something... :O
But it'll only probably last you 5. Anything more than that would be a miracle, I'd think.
I'm really not and thats the problem!
You have exquisite taste ;)
Let me put this into perspective - that amount can buy you 3 Ferrari F1 jackets, and you'd still have some cash left over. :O I hope this is your only uber-pricey item? :D
Unfortunately it's true, sunglasses always get lost or broken, even if you care for them.
Agreed - especially on breaking them. It's so exposed to the conditions, it's prone to wear and tear.
It is so I value them with my life! The rest of my money goes on F1 tickets and saving for trips to other F1 races ;)
Good. My new Ferrari jacket is my only uber-pricey item. It's new, so I'm also valuing it with my life! :D
Which one did you get? Send us a link to a picture of it.
I wouldn't spend a dollar on Ferrari ;) although I am going to buy a Kimi print tomorrow as my birthday present to myself. Circa 2005 though, aka my favourite Kimi year ever.
My Diesel jeans are my only uber pricey item, but I wouldnt mind if they got a bit damaged/ragged, I just want to wear them as much as possible :)
I need new jeans before the winter. How much are Diesel jeans?
Yes please, I have this image in my mind of this really garish red thing.. :P
I could only find the 2008 version:
http://store.ferrari.com/Jackets/Scuderia-Ferrari-rain-jacket-2008-Puma/p,shop.flypage/pid,15139/cid,105/
What I bought was the 2007 version, the one with the white underside.
How much did you pay for it?
They start at about £80/90 i think, though mine were £150 (£132 with student discount ;) )
I bought it at 100 pounds. :D I also have the polo shirt version of this - was given to me as a graduation gift. ;)
Closest I could find of mine:
http://www.beverlyhillsmotorsport.com/catalog/apparel/_puma/$1000+/prod_ferrari-f1-2007-jacket-rain-team-issue/
But the neck section is thicker since it hides the hood, and they remove the Marlboro logos, centering the Ferrari logo instead.
Thats pretty nice, considering its red
It's really nice - no ciggie logos, and clean layout. The Tricolore gives the jacket some color, too.
Thats even nicer!
This is my favourite Ferrari polo, I'm considering getting one.
http://www.onpole.com/ferrari_f1/ferrari_polo_shirt_green_stripes_-c84100p210652.html
Yup, exactly why I've been wanting it for months. I first saw it at Changi the Monday after Singapore last year - it was going at 150 pounds. I spent too much already over the weekend, so I decided to wait for my Sepang trip. I didn't find it at the Sepang stands - I found it at a roadside store at KL. :D
Very nice - I remember seeing this at the stalls in both Singapore and Sepang.
How much was it there do you remember?
I think when the others get here, they will be surprised that we're talking about Ferrari merchandise. :D
Around... 50 pounds? Not 100% sure on that.
Fair enough, pretty similar.
They'll shake their heads in dissaproval I imagine
And it started from a question about sunglasses... The ironic part is, the sunglasses I was looking at were Ferrari sunglasses...
The stripes just dont do it for me! ;)
Especially Mr C and Gavin. Hahaha! I remember Gavin (I think) saying when I mentioned my Ferrari jacket, "You bought a Ferrari jacket? I thought you were an F1 fan!" :P
Hahahaha! How mystic. :D
I hate that my team has ugly merchandise. Ever since Vodafone took over as title sponsor it has all been awful
I actually kinda like the subtlety of it. :D
I remember that. I don't remember exactly who said it though.
I like the thin stripes.
Thank heavens they didn't splash their day-glo red over our Ferraris - Philip Morris would have none of it, too. :D
But now, those McLaren day-glo red victory shirts... ugh.
I resent not buying more in the period between West and Vodafone sponsorship, when everything just said "Team McLaren Mercedes"
And my nice black hat from that time is going brown. Better than the new ugly red ones that go pink though.
But I'd actually like it if, say, Mercedes switched their support to Brawn and moved their silver color there. Then McLaren would switch back to traditional orange. That would be awesome. Then I'd ask Renault to switch back to yellow and white only. :D
Some of your range is pretty decent, a family friend has the "lewis"/union jack T-shirt and it looks really good
and by resent I mean regret.
Don't worry, ING's sponsership runs out at the end of the year. As long as the orange is gone, the Renault's will look alright again.
I tend not to like driver-branded stuff as I'm a team fan first and foremost. I did buy the World Champion shirt though because it might be decades before we get another one.
I do have the ugly red victory shirt, but I only wear it 17 times a year and only to the pub where everyone is wearing team gear :)
Those caps are shocking, I always thought If I was a driver, Id make sure my team would have good quality baseball caps (like Ferrari :P)
The best driver braded merch is the Kimi stuff imo.
I got a Lewis one free when I went to the Vodafone Cricket event, the first thing I did when I got to the track was find out how much they cost. When they said $50 I realised I had a $50 ugly hat that I'll never wear.
The only driver-branded thing I ever bought was the Schumi cap - and that was it. That was the only item I bought because it was the only item he wore, not his shirts or jackets or anything else.
I'm actually still looking for the post-retirement cap he wears at race weekends - fits in with the Ferrari team. Doesn't look like they sell it, though. :(
Yeah I doubt they would go with your sunglasses ;)
Let's hope Renault isn't gone along with ING, eh? :)
Amy, how about their silver items (like shirt and jacket)? What do you think of them?
I do remember someone saying that the jacket looks like something someone working at a grocery would wear...
Nah, they'll stick around. There is one other part of Team Renault that should be gone along with ING though, and I'm sure you can guess what it is.
Piquet? ;)
Piquet Jr.?
Told you it was obvious, you both got it first time.
Same answer AGAIN! :D
Now that you've mentioned it, do you think we'll get mid-season replacements this year, esp. for Piquet and Kovalainen? I know Alonso and Hamilton prefer somewhat incompetent teammates, but surely not THIS incompetent?
haha :)
I really, really, really don't like them.
This is my nice black jacket from 2005 and if they had anything remotely similar to this I would be all over it. I hate the silver and I hate that the McLaren logo doesn't feature on it anymore.
That picture has a special guest appearance from my sunglasses ;)
OK, maybe not incompetent. Maybe mediocre is a better word. :)
Amy, the link isn't working.
Well, sure, they may want an incompetant teammate, but Renault and McLaren don't want incompetant drivers.
and that link didn't work
try this one
Contradictory to my comment a few days ago, Id say Kovi is more unlucky than incompetent. They'll both stick around I reckon.
Ah, now we see Amy's face! ;)
Yes, this one! I remember this being the Kimi sweater - he loved wearing these types of items.
And those sunglasses don't look like 320 pounds. :D
They'll need to step up their form, though. If their respective teams fall out of contention, they'll have more wiggle room to do mid-season chops.
I notice here that Alonso's suit has a sponsor that Piquet's doesn't. If I was a sponsor, I'd do the same "I don't want my name on him, he's too rubbish"
to be fair though, there were ugly items in the McLaren/Kimi days. That top that faded from orange into black springs to mind.
Viceroy is probably a personal sponsor of Alonso's, rather than a team sponsor.
And why didn't Nick and Robert wear shades? Everyone else on the front row was. Would've looked cool. :D
Valvoline probably sponsor Alonso himself, rather than Renault.
I know that sponsor, they make Fernando Alonso watches, so not really applicable to Piquet :P
Was that orange? Wasn't that pinkish red? I remember them doing that... was it in 2004? :D
Isn't that the Valvoline 'V'?
Valvoline? You mean Viceroy? :D
Their sponsorship must also bring red cuffs. Ugly. ;)
It looked like Valvoline. They have the same V just different colours.
And I hadn't enlarged the picture...
...Oh yeah! Also your jacket looks really good, but considering black is my favourite colour Im slightly biased ;)
whatever it is, it's ugly
That's the good thing about being from New Zealand, when black is your national colour you will look good at any sporting event. I'm glad I'm not native Australian as there is no excuse for wearing green and yellow at the same time.
Anyway, I am off to see Dylan Moran, have a good day and I may return later!
It's day-glo red - they were preparing us for Vodafone. Hahaha!
bye!
Later, Amy. :)
I am seeing Dylan Moran in two weeks at the Opera House! Where are you seeing him?
If you're still here that is.
Ill have to shoot off too, this revision isnt going to get done by itself... I wish it would though :)
Dylan Moran is great live - have fun!
Morning all!
Morning Alex, bye Selidor.
It's like the changing of the guard!
Happy Easter Egg day everyone :)
I've already eaten mine...
And it's time to eat dinner, I'll be back later on.
is it sad that i am now live commenting my journey? Just got off the tram and walking through fed square to the arts centre. Nice night in melbourne tonight.
Not sad at all... But then I would say that :)
Cause it's not sad... I'm sure I'd do it too if I had a phone that would let me.
Agreed - would love to be able to do that. It's like I never left. ;)
Off to watch Top Gear, see y'all.
Afternoon everyone, have only just got up which is ridiculous for me (usually wake up 8 or 9)
Damn work! :P
Hello Lukeh.
We used to have one massive sunday market, nowadays, its almost nothing. Quite sad really, only things thats really been here for a long, long time {Comment #429}
There's no Sunday market where I live, but the Thursday market makes up for it (if you can get out of work/school long ewnough to see it...)
Sometimes it seems to be stuck in a time warp, but sometimes that's no bad thing.
It could be worse though - me could be having to admit to a sam fox CD in the collection…..Comment #521}
Dare I admit to having a Martine McCutcheon CD? The second album at that (as opposed to You, Me and Us, which had a couple of songs that at least did OK in the charts at the time)?
oh dear. let us raise the quality of conversation somewhat. he actually still owns a vinyl picturedisc, and what is it of? {Comment #537}
I don't own any personally, bnut my parents might.
moooorning.
rise and shine, here he comes :D
morn....afternoon!
afternoon Mr C ;)
afternoon, you mean. better catch up on the comments first. :D
how's life as a bum? :P
aww, really? rats.
ouch!
it's ace :)
Ouch? Yeah, right. :P
how is one feeling after the vast amounts of alchohol consumed last night?
it wasn't... vast...
...my heads hurts.
i've just seen Bat racer... not the luckiest GPs for Brawn... ah well :)
Does that mean you checked the comments before you looked at the time? Gotta love that commitment.
i was trying to work out whether the randomness of the conversation was alchohol fuelled...or just a normal saturday nights randomness :P
opened eyes, opened laptop :)
bit of both i think ;)
Both of us Torro Rossos finished again, even with me using kers. We've got to nick a point or two soon.
i thought this was some kind of bad dream, but no, i really did happen.
i finished this race :D 13th, which is good enough for last place of the finishers lol. oh well, its a step up from Oz
no that is real, unfortunately
He should just stick with the blog
i dont get why he did it....it dosent tell you what happened during the race, it dosent say anything we didnt know, and it hasnt really shown any pictures that we havent seen before. i just dont get it :(
i think the third line he says, sum up my feelings perfectly.
Not while running intermediates on a dry track... :P
hahaha, thats genius :)
Oh god, must I go back and listen to the third line again ;)
Sensationalist media F1 moment of the day! News of the World is exclusively reporting that Sir Richard Branson has been shouted at by none other than a Mr Jenson Button over a story that Branson was hitting on Jenson's new girlfriend!
Oh the shame, the shame of it all!
Uh-oh .. Lukeh reads GMM story next
:D
It's great reading funny stories though
Afternoon everyone. What is this about Mr C and vast amounts of alcohol? I thought I was leaving a responsible adult in charge!
That James Allen video.... ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH James you had, almost... just about... slightly... got people to forget how bad a commentator you were... almost... some people even said they wanted you back...
Two words spring to mind: OWN GOAL!
am doing the daily post now. honest. right now.
I feel wrong about those few minutes of shame now
Did you see he did capital letters in the daily post! Capital letters?!? I ask you! He's changed ;)
Uh-oh. :P
hahaha
Hey, Christine :D hope you are having a great time
I would've beaten you this time, cept this time it was me that crashed out...
Kudos for James for publishing this comment from a certain someone:
I was having a good time but I have just jumped ashore into a patch of stinging nettles.
Ouch!
Haha
ouch! :(
Dock leaf STAT!
:P
Absolutely :)
Tying up for lunch though so it's worth it!
Anywhere nice? or do you not know where you are? :P
We started in Guildford and are on the way back now so somewhere nearby.
i am cold waiting for a tram to take me home. The only consolation is that i cant open james allens video on my phone so wasnt tricked by the link to it
BUSTED! :D
Afternoon all.
So I take it we are going for the first 1000 post Daily thread?
out of interest, what was the finishing order in batracer? am confused.
depends when Mr C does the daily thread ;)
i'm doing it!
didn't we make 1,000 on yesterday's though?
:D ;)
yep we did. i didn't notice that.
That doesn't count because people were posting in the wrong place...
oh.
surely today's shouldn't count because it's tomorrow...
...that's not right?
thoughts like this are too advanced for a sunday :(
You're doing it!
But you don't have a daily thread up when yesterdays did ;)
understood.
I'm going to have an afternoon and evening away from the internet as a friend is coming around!
Have fun everyone and remember to keep those meandpage22 pictures coming :)
enjoy :)
Have fun you, picnics outside?
aw-ay?
from the internet?
what is this?!
See ya, have fun.
If the daily takes any longer I won't be able to comment on my birthday post during my actual birthday :D
one sec.
Amy, how was Dylan Moran? What can I expect when I see him when he comes to Sydney?
hot off the presses...
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/04/12/daily-12th-april-2009/
start your commenting engines ;)
He was really good but the acoustics in the theatre here were somewhat rubbish so some of what he said I couldn't hear. But judging by others laughter, it was funny.
If the daily takes any longer I won’t be able to comment on my birthday post during my actual birthday {Comment #969}
Happy birthday, Amy!
