This is it, my final daily post before I head off into the sunset... for a few days. I am leaving you in the capable hands of Mr C, and that should be scary for us all. No mention of pandas, or Franck, or Le Seb. How will you all cope? Oh well, here's what we're discussing at the moment:
- Bernie reckons McLaren could get a ban, especially considering they are "up in court" for the second time on a similar charge. James Allen also suggests that as the hearing is just before the British GP, it would make for some spectacular headlines. Oh dear.
- Speaking of the British race, Donington Park is due for another FIA inspection soon, and track boss Simon Gillett says this nugget: "When you work with the likes of Tilke to run your FIA submissions and track safety, you have got to say that you are betting on the right horses." Oh dear.
- Finally, we are all still pondering this Renault Roadshow crash, mostly because is it even possible to go so vastly off, seconds after starting in what can only be described as a straight line? Looks like a scary accident, but how was it even possible? Oh dear.
With those happy thoughts, I bid you adieu. I'll still be popping up in the comments from time to time, and I may post the odd picture to drop.io, just to make sure you don't forget me. Therefore, I will sign off with: Mr C will see you in the comments.
*waves*
Keeping giving me pics of Timo and I'll be here for the weekend
byee Christine!! :D have a nice time!
Enjoy, Christine! :)
Have a good time, byee! :)
Have fun!
Have a nice time :-)
Enjoy the break mrs c
You definitely deserve it :D
See ya Christine!
Riiiiiiiiiiiight, after all that fun and excitment, i think it's time for sleepy's.
Mr C, has Christine left frozen meals in the fridge for you?
Night all :)
night jon
Night Jon.
night :)
Ooo well have a nice time - assuming that it is a 'nice time' sort of trip and not a 'stuck in a large hall with 400+ other people whilst a man stands up at the front and tells us about the company/product' sort of trip...
... oh gord - please don't tell us that you are off on the Tim Robbins weekend? (york uni.../?)
Night Jon. :)
most certainly not that, no :)
Phew!
That just leaves the life coaching academy course....
Why can I imagine Mrs C skiing in the Swiss Alps?
without me? no chance.
You a keen skiier like?
nope. but i wouldn't miss out the chance.
True that. Would be fun to ski I reckon
Skiing is very fun. :)
i've never been skiing but i'd like the chance to go... just cause i imagine the scenery would be beautiful :)
Might pop along to Norway soon then
There is always http://www.xscape.co.uk/
Warning - other artificial slopes are available, possibly even nearer to whereever you call home.
Austria.
Why Norway?
Journeyer couldve gone skiing at the GP it seemed based on those hills..
I have some photos... ;)
Castleford. Pop along to there and watch the Tigers in rl
jealous much :(
I assume they have slopes plus its a short journey from Newcastle
woah.
20 hours 18 mins.
Hahaha! Yeah, it should've been possible, to be honest. :D
Can't go wrong with an overnight ferry
http://www.veggiesnow.org/index.html
These guys are considered good (and cheap, apparently). But I have to join the ranks of the 'would like to but always been too skint'....

 with envy.
This seems the perfect location for a holiday for page 22
FAR too cold
J-e-a-l-o-u-s
:(
I felt colder when I landed in Gatwick!
Seconded. Dang.
Ahh but were you wearing your snow gear at Gatwick? :-)
Have to say though... jealous of holiday abroad.
:o awesome!! i sooo want to travel!!..
I like Good Friday. Not having to get up tomorrow is lovely.
Jealous... I have a child to deliver to scout camp and still have to make a 'packed lunch' to go with them... grrrrr
packed lunch, those were the days
is good friday the one where we have pancakes?
I thought that was a few weeks ago but I'm confused.
*puts hand up in the air*
umm, i may need one too.
No, but nobody is stopping you! :P
:D
That was pancake day.
I'm not sure what Good Friday is. The lent thing goes to Sunday I think?
pancakes is shrove tuesday :)
Good Friday is the climax of Lent, so to speak. It ends at the beginning of Easter Sunday.
Catholic tradition.
it's a tuesday?!
wow, where the hell have I been...
:D will you be living on cupcakes the next few days then :)
hot cross bun day?
As much as I love having programs update me in the bottom right corner of my PC screen, and I do, occasionally they do it at the same time. Winamp told me a track name just as TwitterFox told me about Me's latest tweet.
am seeing how far i can get, existing only on red bull.
ohh thats what I was thinking of! Not pancakes!
Hah :-)
Cupcakes and Pot Noodle?
LOL
there are plenty of places that take online orders and deliver you know....
SidepodTakeway?
Chinese take-out. ;)
the kettles a bit... complicated.
Ooh haven't had a Pot Noodle in yonks. Student grub. I might get some.
.. this can only end well.... ;)
proficient in computers, deficient in kettles. sounds about right. ;)
You fill with water
Click the button to heat
Pour into thingummy
You getting confused at what point?
yet you can operate a washing machine?...
Wa...ter?
Got any microwaveable noodles?
You do realise you're meant to put the water in yourself, right?
You can program a microwave, should be a doddle for you
umm....
washing machines are evil... last time I used one the back of it exploded. I dont trust them with their spinny roundy... spinniness.
how will you make tea?!
Lol
you sound like you need a quooker.
i shall be tea-less for 4 days :(
It's sounding like Red Bull and Crisps to me...
no thats not right. i refsue to let that happen to anyone!
makes me wonder why you didn't go with Christine on vacation. she takes care of you well. :D
That's not possible. I refuse to countenance it.
i'm not too good with washing machines... the one time i was put in charge of loading all the washing in and turning it on etc my ipod headphones found themselves in the wash too... they still work though :D
How do we send tea to Rockall?
yay!
Nice!
she needs a holiday... from me.
:D
Sidepodboat?
You do know how to shop don't you
:o....that's just criminal! ... indecently the amount of tea i've been drinking while revising is ridiculous...
Sidepodplane?
Yoda again
not for a very long time.
Where to land?
There's an episode of Futurama where Fry tallies up all the coffees he has in 1 day, maybe a Tea tally to give an idea? :P
Don't get lost in the supermarket!
yoda?...
seaplane.
Sidepodparachute
On the sidepodboat, of course!
Teatotal
I'll stop now
mr c can come to the iceland i work in, i'll help him out and shop for him and explain to him what a trolley is :)
can't he just order it online... that way he won't have to risk going outside :D
it all seems like way more effort than getting lpg to duplicate a packed lunch.
For you, yes! ;)
but then you dont learn all the new magic tricks, like putting a pound in a trolley, and the immediate fun of a conveyer belt :)
Those are so fun they should be banned :)
Speaking like yoda, you are.
the fun of wanting one of something but having to take two because they are on offer, even though you'll only throw the extra one away
what's yoda?
WHAT??
you don't know yoda? :-/
I'm gonna let you off the fact that its 1:32
I take it this is something i should know about....
*pinches self*
no...... i'm starting to feel like i've missed out on something...
I'm choosing to believe you know Yoda but are not making the connection.
sorry....
Hmm...
Luke tells me he is a character in star wars... that explains it. i've never seen star wars.
Aww, poor lou.. :P
But you've heard of yoda?
WHAT??
Wow, how can you not at least recognise the name Yoda?
nope.
To be fair I've never seen star wars and still know who Yoda is
You should go see it. I mean, really. Go see it. :)
I've never seen any Star Wars film either. That's no excuse.
i live in my own little world most of the time ;)
wow. you mean you can watch it for the first time? how awesome is that?
TWO PEOPLE have not seen Star Wars??
I've not seen much, either. Not that I can remember...
Okay see NOW I'm jealous
The small green one?
Three people, actually. :)
but.... i've never really wanted to see it....
At least I know who Yoda is.
yup.
Rofl. Awesome comment.
My brother just sleepwalked into my room to tell me the bus was late.
Hm.
I'm on lou's side here
You will once you've seen it.
fun things happen early in the morning
haha! :D
has he been overdoing it on the podcasting too?
Same. I think...
maybe he needs a holiday? ;)
????? WHAT ?????
:D :D
i think everyone does at the moment :D
:D :D Hi Steven :)
I've never wanted to go to the Faroe Islands but I know the capital city. Oh wait, I wouldn't mind going there for a laugh. Doesn't really work, does it.....
That's what I said!
:D
Hi Lou
Exactly. :)
Oh by the way Steven. You have won at the PF Quiz, you once shared it with Ollie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtfejKs_mI4
That is like half a win. It's not a proper win
It is still being counted as a win
okay... so i just googled yoda...he is green... that's not the extent of my knowledge of him.
I havent seen SW for years but I dont remember it being that bad, i feel very confused right now.
That isn't a great scene... best I could do short notice
He is not very big. His own grammar rules...he has. And he is head Jedi which is the fastest growing religion in Britain.
It's not?
Thats ok, im not a SW fan anyways. I barely remember the film if im honest :D
ah right... it all makes sense now :)
Don't tell me about it. I'm sick of them
:shakes head:
I mean the prequel trilogy fair enough, they were bad. But the originals are classics.
In the unlikely event of anyone here being a Green Day fan, there's a song or 2 from the new album leaked.
It does?!?
*raises hand*
i liked the debut album. unbelievable drumming.
i was trying to move away from the subject... cause i've very little clue about this yoda person and i feel like i've missed something massive..
jedi's?
Seriously. At the last census in 2001 the fastest growing religion that people put in was Jedi.
i'm confused.
See, now if the film had yoda going 'i went too fast... 3 tenths of a second... nooooo!' we'd all be fine :)
it's fair to say episode iv was a seminal moment in movie making history, yes.
Just possibly the biggest movie series of the 20th Century, but don't worry about it.
What was wrong with my explanation? I thought I covered everything that had to be said. Short Jedi, talks funny.
Uh-hu, every single day all they talk about...
I dunno, cool runnings was quite good too
:D awww.
i couldn't grab your shoutout btw luke, sorry. 5live friday practice doesn't appear to be on iplayer?
ooh right....i feel bad for not seeing it now :)
now cool runnings i've seen :)
I tried looking for it too but to no luck. Torrenting wasnt being helpful either :(
Shame really but no worries if its unavailable :)
Empire was even better.
now there's a film!
Sanka, ya dead?
Ya mon... ooh..
Aww I wanna watch it now for the 6485th time and possiblty cry again at the end :(
Yay! :)
Mr. C.......a Green Day fan? Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised :P
Also yeah, Dookie's a good album, though I wouldn't say it's their best.
Anyways, that song from the next album:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPmlDA4FcxY
Was about to say that - EP4 for the advances in effects it produced
EP5 for the story. ;)
they were replaying the practice sessions on the red button all weekend, i don't think the bbc thought they needed to go as far as to put them on iplayer :(
It was just the same except Star Wars was in space and instead of going down a hill they had to go and take on Darth Vader and the bad guys in a massive space war.
Rofl!
:D
Genius.
big fan of "when i come around", oddly enough. sort of went away from them after that. enjoyed "good riddance", and then the most recent album.
i listen now.
haha :) Darth Vader is the guy in the mask right?... i think i know that much.. oh and Ewan McGregor was in one of the star wars films wasn't he? that's literally all i know.
:)
Got me in the mood to listen to International Superhits now...
comment of the year?
Anyway - suppose I'd better disconnect from the miraculous 512kb interwebnet connection that we have in Nawfuk...
Yay for string phone lines...
Oh easily.
I just watched the youtube video that Pat linked to of yoda... he sounds like kermit the frog! hehe
:D
You shoud totally watch the films and review them.. :P
You sure?
Not Fozzy Bear or Miss Piggy? ;)
Do it or I will do something unspeakably sickeningly evil. Or, y'know......not.
Do it tomorrow, more time for listening :P
okay i change my mind... tis miss piggy...
Its confusing because the original 3 films are actually episodes 4,5 and 6 then the Ewan McGregor films are pre-quels and they was supposed to another 3 which are episodes 7,8 and 9 but they are not going to make them now which is insane.
Ewan McGregor played Obe Wan Kenobe who was played by Sir Alex Guinness in the original
Short, green, talks funny. Don't see the connection. Sorry.
anyone else think he kinda looks (a little) like Bernie?.....
apart from the green thing....
XD
Do you know who Frank Oz is?
Director, writer, actor, original muppeeteer - did Fozzie and Piggy - and Yoda. :D
when bernie runs from the rain? yup.
Hello photoshop, youre my friend.
nope.
oh right. that may explain it then. :)
so.... it's better to watch them in a strange order?
it's better to only watch 4, 5, 6.
TV channels usually air them in the sequence they were made. 4,5,6,1,2,3
I personally prefer the episode number order because the story makes more sense.
This is true.
Ewan McGregor isn't in those though?
Nope. He's in 1, 2, 3, along with Natalie Portman.
I'll add to this: if you start with ep1 (the 1st of the later ones) it'll put you off watching the rest.
Watch them in the order they were released even though that is not the chronological order of the story. Although it would be interesting to see what saw them in story order made of them because the things that the rest of us knew when we saw the pre-quels you won't so that must change things.
Im so sorry star wars fans
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/ohdear-jpg
i'll erm try and watch them or some or one... during the summer hols... when i have more time.
How long before Bernie starts speaking like him too?
Good. And Stephen is right, on first viewing it's better to do them in the release order.
At least you've seen LOTR... right?
Tilke is the best, he is
:-D
Ah, races for evening in formula one, times early are too.
Genius.
:D Perfect
i'll get my friend to watch them with me. she likes star wars and has them on dvd.. so she is probably the best person to ask...
yeah... a friend and i watched them all in one day... that was a loooong day. :) good films though :)
I did that.
Can I just say I've never watched LOTR?
Lazy, the drivers are. With the medals, they push!
I'm with Lukeh on this one.
I haven't seen them or read them
I read The Hobbit, does that count?
I haven't read any of them.
I'm gonna head off, nighty night everyone :)
night luky, lukeh even. I'm to tired for this malarky
night Luke :)
Night Lukeh. :)
Night Lukeh
bye luke, may the force be with you
To make this f1 relevant
may the force india be with you
wow looks like i've got lots of sidepodarticles to catch up on, i'll read them in the morning ;) in the mean time, night all ;)
Bye lou
Night Lou. :)
Bye Lou. I'm off too. Didn't realise it was 2:45am :-)
See ya Pat, 2;45 is nothing.
Night Lou
Morning all,
I missed the whole live thread yesterday. To be honest I had withdrawals.
Todays question from me, does anyone have the direct link to the .flv files on f1.com for the 2009 videos? I have all the 2008 ones but my technical knowledge is limited and I can't seem to get the 2009 ones in the same way.
Night all. :)
Bye Dom Trulli.
Do you mean these videos Amy?
http://www.formula1.com/services/play_video.html
Yes. I want the video files.
I don't know where to find those sorry.
Time for bed. Good night all.
heading out to get the F1 Racing and look for the page 22
Amy, still there?
You'll have to be smart about this.
1. Use IE and access the site as normal. When they ask you to choose which vid you want to watch, choose the vid you want to DL.
2. Let the video finish loading completely.
3. Once loaded, you may or may not watch it. What matters is that the whole video downloaded completely.
4. Go to the Temporary Internet Files folder of your computer. If you don't know where it is, use the Tools -> Options box to open the folder.
5. Sort by date accessed/modified and look for the latest FLV file available. That should be your video. Copy it to wherever you want to save it.
Disclaimer: This should only be done for personal use, as per the agreement with FOM before the video page.
Cheers I'll give it a go.
Let me know if it works!
Looked at it myself - it seems to be trickier now; the file is no longer stored on your HD, just streamed from somewhere else.
You may need a stream recorder for this.
last year i got the 08 file urls from the .xml page off the website - they don't seem to be in it anymore. I'll keep my eyes peeled, someone somewhere can probably find them
This link may be of use to you:
http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080410082036AATdR4o
If you have a [redacted] account, it's there for download. :)
I don't have an account there :(
I can invite you, if you want. I'll need your email, though. Not sure how you'd give that to me.
Got it. Any way you can remove that now? Not sure how Mr C likes having email addresses floating around here.
Amy, email sent. Did you get it?
oops didn't know that! no delete function that I'm aware of either. If Mr C or Christine pop up when the hour becomes more sociable in that part of the world they can delete it :)
Email just arrived though, thanks!
Amy, if you want to edit a post, for future reference like this case, use the old skool method of commenting from the main page.
Mr C will be sure to oblige otherwise.
Happy Easter Sideys!
Thanks for the tip!
Lovely day here so I'm going to go for a walk to Albert Park to see how much circuit is still standing 2 weeks later.
No doubt I'll be back tonight :)
Take pictures! Would love to see what it's like at non-race weekends. :)
doctorvee doctorvee all over james allen's post :-)
http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/10/fresh-insight-into-mclaren-case/
wow - good on him! a little fame for vee, something long deserved. i'm sure some of the powers-that-be read JA's blog as well, so who knows where this can lead for vee? :)
I have returned, I shall put some photos up shortly. Security are still patrolling the pits so I couldn't take photos of the boxes. Fresh rubber everywhere, I love it and I couldn't get close :(
Shame!
dammit wrong post
job done :)
Good on him! And it's a good insight!
cheers bassano!
Gosh you're up early / late!
go vee! allen could've linked to him though :(
early. someone's going on holiday... noisily.
ha! I've been there! Whatever you do don't say, "I thought you said you'd finished packing last night"!
First BATracer event of the 09 season and it's a McLaren 7-8
Fake McLaren are doing about as well than real McLaren.
You could say better, since both of our cars finished, whereas real Heikki is doing this a lot: http://twitpic.com/338pj
i don't think he really promotes other people's blogs... vee can just reply to the post and put his URL in, i suppose.
Not to mention you won't get disqualified. who won?
how about,,,
"seeing as you're up and about, can you get me a drink?"
:D :D
Brawn 1-2, Lou followed by Lukeh
No surprise there, then... :) Who was 3rd?
hahaha!
Thinking about it I will probably be eating junk food for the next few days exclusively. So maybe it would be safest if you made me breakfast - in bed
omg!
Don't do it Me!
3rd: Alenyaa in the Williams. 5 retirements for the race.
Right on form with Australia, I think. Except that the Williams managed their tyres better. :)
What happened to Red Bull? Weren't they on pole?
one came 5th and one retired after a KERS failure
This Red Bull has KERS? No wonder it retired - it wasn't made for it. :P
I was surprised at how many were running KERS! I thought it would be an advantage but 10 cars had it
Interestingly the top 4 didnt have KERS
F1 Racing April issue still not here, the Mach one however still all over the place
sounds tempting to not use it in Sepang, but if I don't I'll probably get overtaken by everyone.
I think it depends on where you qualify really. If you're down the order somewhat, everyone else around you will think they have nothing to lose by using KERS, so you're at a a disadvantage if you don't use it yourself.
Furthermore your Mclaren is one of the most reliable cars on the grid, so problems should be few and far between.
hehe. you are a bad influence.
oh dear! Soon you'll have an iPhone and be running around all over the place with copies of F1 racing!
What a loada rubbish that game is, cant do a three stopper on there
Well done Dom though, some nice points in the bag
On the one hand I think not running KERS in Malaysia may be more of a disadvantage than it was in Australia.
On the other we did see two KERS-related incidents, one resulting in retirement. 2 incidents out of 10 cars running KERS means 20% though.
I'm not sure what I'll be doing just yet. Partly depends on how I do in quali.
I did badly
very badly
3 stops isn't a good strategy in any of the F1 games though. Well, that's my experience anyways.
Somebody could have told me earlier...
Scotts guide says to do 3 stops, i did 2 and crashed out 2 laps from the end :(
So RG... How's the Script going?
Hell yeah! I think me and Amy did alright there!
Script Frenzy = Dead, buried and put on the grave stone 'pointless'
Sidepodcast one = Feel up to it again, a week off for me and I shall focus on it. Aim for a few pages a day
Soz...
That... sucks
There is still 20 days to go!
2 stops. Hard tyres. Tyre wear 100. Cant go wrong.
I'm deciding to stick with KERS for now, if it doesn't pay off in Malaysia, I'm off it.
I shall change my race strategy :D
I dont know why Im telling you this - realistically Im fighting the McLarens and Renaults :P
you have nothing to worry about, trust me
such proof of this, im 3 seconds off the pace with my best lap....and 2 seconds off that with my final setup....i have no idea how im gonna drop back to my fastest lap
Have a good time, Christine!
(And Mr C, sorry to have to tell you this, but April 29 puts the hearing just before Spain rather than just before Britain. Just as well since I haven't sorted out my tickets yet...)
Hmm, raising your experimentation next time would be a good idea.
I meant to ask, just where is Christine going?
I think he was meaning that if say a 4 race ban was given, then that would cover Britain aswell
James Allen, who I think Christine was quoting, was saying that Britain was only 3 races after the hearing which could be included in the ban. The thinking going that Honda got a three race ban for the hidden fuel tank. One was retroactive. However the Marshals have already thrown McLaren out of Australia so his thinking was that it would be three new races. Taking it up to Britain.
The marshall eh? do they have that power now :P
Whoops Stewards!
:D
Whatever anyone does don't let Steven Roy see this comment on James Allen's blog:
http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/04/10/fresh-insight-into-mclaren-case/#comment-5512
Just read the BAT Racer results, so much for my post-qualifying celebrations! I faded away spectacularly in the race. At least I finished though, which is a first for me!
is good friday the one where we have pancakes?
I thought that was a few weeks ago but I’m confused. {Comment #53}
According to Wikipedia, this is the day when traditional fare is fish and vegetables followed by hot cross buns. Except for Eastern Orthodox Christians and traditional Roman Catholics, for whom it's a day of fasting.
Pancake Day was 38 days ago.
What do you get if you pour boiling water down a rabbit hole?
Glen Close accusing you of copyright infringement.
Ba-dum.
Wooohooooooooo!! Just saw batracer, well done Lou :D:D
Ah thats made me day already. Morning everyone.
View from my window. And I've just packed my snow boots away
NO WAY!! What part of the world are you in?
*grumblebloodycheatingdiffusers*
Morning
*grumblegrumble*
If anyone finds a you tube (or the like) video of Taki Inoue being flipped by the safety car then please link me, i'm struggling to find a link but really want to see it.
and now so do I, that sounds amazing.
Can't see it on youtube but:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k2hINjW6UEUf95yBB
Nah thats Hungry, his car got flipped by the safety car in Monaco
BEST.GAME.EVER
http://www.wangbar.co.uk/max
So RG… How’s the Script going? {Comment #330}
I know you didn't ask me specifically, but I've done 20 pages of unformatted text so far, which equates to about 40 pages once it's in correct script style. I'm behind where I want to be, but ahead of the theoretical target page count.
Nico Rosberg describes a lap of the Chinese GP venue blinfolded in this video clip from ITV-F1.
I think he was meaning that if say a 4 race ban was given, then that would cover Britain aswell {Comment #343
OK, that makes sense now - thank you :) . McLaren would be free to appeal and race under that appeal, which would at least delay the ban a bit. Otherwise it could be very embarrasing if I end up in the Hamilton Fields (possible, since it appears to be one of the cheapest campsites) and Hamilton isn't even in the country for the race...
I should think if they're given a ban they won't appeal it.
Nah thats Hungry, his car got flipped by the safety car in Monaco {Commnet #360}
Taki never did have much luck with the safety vehicles, did he?
Nope
Congrats Alianora!
This is pretty awesome
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox1Uueudo70&feature=related
tres funny
Congrats Alianora! {Comment #368}
Thanks Alex :) It's one of these strange things when one day I feel like I can't write anything at all and the next a whole torrent of verbiage ends up on the screen, leaving me wondering how, for example, I ended up with a squeaking kiffle in the script (an extraterrestrial pet, in case anyone is wondering).
I'm going to guess it's in here: http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/sports/watch/v920059AmpxSgxs
You have to install the Veoh web player to watch it... But a 45 minute roundup is bound to have it in right? Haven't had a chance to wizz through though.
It is one of the great mysteries of creative writing. Sometimes you just aren't in the mood.
Howdy all!
Howdy....you might not want to check BATracer....it didnt go well
Yeah, I just checked that out. Most overtakes of everyone! Came 13th though...
Still, I beat you Jon. ;)
Hi all. Just popped in for 30 seconds to drop a thought of. If celebrities are the glitterati and twitter users are the twitterati should F1 insiders be the pitterati? You heard it hear first. This word will no doubt be in common usage in the future.
Thats all that matters :D
I would have beat you, but crashed 2 laps from the end :( Booo
Yeah, thanks for that mate! ;)
Practice didnt go well for me....knowing that i'll qualify near the back anyway i went for a setup a bit off the wall, hope it works :D
Just did practice then, went better than expected!
It is one of the great mysteries of creative writing. Sometimes you just aren’t in the mood.
True. No wonder journalists (who have to write at least somewhat creatively every day) get paid so much at the peaks of their powers!
Ooooh, that was good :)
I think we're not going to be winning that many races this year, the Renault is just so slow
:D
Yeah, I get that impression also...
Hover over Results, then go to Car Comparison......thats all im saying :D
Well, we ain't the worst car at the moment...
Yeah, I get what your saying.
What are you writing about if I mght ask? 40 pages now is bloomin brilliant
:D
From JA's Twitter:
I think the BBC may actually nick it this time...
Well we did well in the olympics, and we did well in the f1. But I think the olympics we were more successful
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21357.html
How very Bernie - the son of one of the leaders of Matra wants to run the race, but Bernie keeps his prices up. For him, France is expendable. After all, he has Korea, India, and Abu Dhabi.
How nice of him.
And I'm think it was actually covered better than F1 - isn't that what the award is supposed to be about? ;)
I'm off folks, I've been up for 19 hours and I'm only running on 3.5 hours sleep. See y'all!
G'nyt Sean. :)
Hey all :) hows everyone's day going so far?
Afternoon all. Nice to see the BATracer game is realistic. :)
just woke up, am eating easter egg in bed, wondering if i should sleep some more.
haha :D what a lovely way to get my second ever batracer win ;)
It should be, but it's not. The last two awards have gone to Hungary 06 (Jenson's first win) and Canada '07 (Lewis's first win).
you seem to be paralleling Jenson's career, right down to the numbers! :P
Slow and lazy.
But if the top 2 awards were both winning moments, then how do you judge them? ;)
by the time Christine gets back you're body clock is going to be running on a different time zone isn't it? ;)
hello :) congrats again :D
mega boring so far though... and now I have to fill out financial forms for uni... joy!
he'll be nocturnal....
howdy all, back from a nice bike ride, its very warm outside :)
anything exciting happening?
well my day so far has been full of lovely AS revision :( i was hoping there would be lots of f1 news... but there doesn't really appear to be much at all.
:D i suppose he'll be ready for China..
I've filled in the same forms for 3 years in a row... with the same information and everything. Grr.
Groundhog day... :P
No idea... I can't see it not going to the Olympics though...
It IS Good Friday, after all. Don't expect any news until the hearing on the 14th.
My thoughts, exactly.
wait, you mean im going to have to fill in the same finance forms again for hte next 3 years?! it took me ages!!!!
oh yeah, revision, that thing, forgot about that
yep
and enrolment too...
joy upon all joys :(
I'm doing my revision in the mornings, and on the odd day in the afternoon. Normally half an hour at a time. With about 7 maths papers my teacher has given me
how fun...
i wish i could... but the post its of reminders and stuff i have all around my desk and in my room make it hard ;)
oh no... my future looks like it's going to be full of revision and filling out forms... how fun.
i remember GCSE Geography, i made an A3 spider diagram of all the facts for each case study, there was like 14 of them, it took up a whole wall in my room, and when it came to the exam, i totally forgot everything i learn and made them up based on places id been on holiday too.....got a B for it :D hehe
oh and UCAS, dont forget about UCAS, the bain of everyone life
Uggggggggggggghhhh.
Bad times.
oh.. UCAS.. i've heard lots about it... i'm looking forward to that ;)
see, just 4 little letters strikes the fear into anyone who's had to deal with it...
i hated revising for GCSE Geography... although not as much as i hated revising for Latin.
I still get nightmares from the gmail notifier popping up with
'YOUR UCAS TRACKING STATUS HAS CHANGED'
Do not want to see... and the website and service was always horrific trying to find your actual applications to unis.
I'm hoping for an overthrow in the British government so alll this changes, no more forms.
pah, latin. i am so glad i never took that, although i took french instead....and now can speak less french than i could before i took the stupid exam
ah yes, my favourite bit is that it dosent tell you whats changed, and sometimes you get them, even when nothing has changed. stupid thing
Why did you study Latin? Isn't it a bit of a dead language?
As far as I know latin is pretty good at getting the attention of good universities in the UK.
i don't know :( it seemed like the best option :( oh how wrong i was.
Really...? How odd... Over here, we're not even taught foreign languages until you get to uni, and even then, it's not really a major or anything.
depends what subject your applying for to be honest, my brother got into cambridge without a language, and at the time you just couldnt do that
I would've studied French (which I did study in uni), or Spanish (which is very close to our language), or, most probably, Italian.
I don't know if it actually is, but it's just something our old schools uni advisor used to always bang on about (although oru school didnt even teach french let alone latin...)
latin is an evil evil language. just when you think you have grasped it another thing comes along and it can be like starting from the beginning again. very very bad times. however i got myself a B in the subject which i'm pretty proud of :)
well done! :D
so basically they were saying....
"DO LATIN! GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL!!!"
did she only ever tell you do to latin? :P ttry and get you to go somewhere else :P
A formless government?
The only problem with this theory is that voting requires forms... Wait hold on! RG I think you have something!!! The formless government can just declare themselves the winners!
oh I tried, trust me.
i studied German... i didn't like French too much, so didn't do it...
Hmmm... your uni admission process seems to be way more complicated than ours. Over here, we just pick which uni we want to go to, take their entrance exam, and hope for the best. If you pass their exam, you're in. We used to have a GCSE-like exam, but they trashed it in the 1980s for some reason I don't remember anymore.
I WIN!!!!
Not one for the Romantic languages, then? :)
Have I aimlessy decided the outcome of the next election?
It's a rule-based language. Get the rules (and their exceptions), and you should be able to at least grasp it somewhat.
We apply for 5, you either get offers for them or not, then you decide a firm and insurance choice and then take your alevels, and if you get the grades for your firm you go there, or if you dont but you get your insurance grades you go there. if you get neither you go through clearing....simple :)
Welsh is where it's at. Oh those lack of vowels are a beauty.
:P
haha no. i would have loved to have done italien but they don't offer it.. but tbh i had to give French up i just hated it so much.
Thats the same for me, but as you've said before, its all through UCAS who do a horrific job of organising it.
i may have inadvertantly got one of my teachers removed from the school...so i felt it best to leave....
thats because we all use the dreaded UCAS
Oooh... I have a similar story, but it was my teacher's fault... :P
sounds simple... but is it as simple as it sounds?
ahhh, well....they shouldnt have been there...but it was my fault they went....but their fault cus they didnt teach us
oh no never. pain in the backside is what it is
ooooh no, you also have to pay £20 to UCAS to put in applications, who then sit on their bum, twiddle their fingers, and occasionally send you an email false telling you something's been updated. They lost several people's personal statements in my school too and that messed up their unversity choices.
yup, pretty much like my story then. :) but it's not your fault if they weren't teaching you - they weren't doing their job. ;)
yep, but i was the person who raised the fact that they werent doing their job...
Ech... thank goodness our government deregulated it then and left it to the schools. :) Of course, the issue over here is the ridiculous tuition 2 of the Big 3 unis charge...
yeah, and you did the right thing. you're the best person to tell the higher-ups if the teachers are doing their job or not.
i think compared to most unis in the world we get it pretty good, its a max of £3,225 a year year, although some unis want to up it, but the government put a limit on it
ours is at 1500 pounds a year, but when you look at it as a percentage of the average salary, you're better off than us.
ah every undergraduate gets a student loan that has no interest and you dont have to pay it back until your earning atleast £15,000 and even then you only have to pay back a fiver a week
I think this is where our cultures diverge. Over there, you're expected to pay your own tuition, right? Over here, that's the exception to the rule - parents usually pay the tuition here.
your not expected to pay it, like my parents payed for my brothers tution fees, but the student loans are their if needed, and everyone gets a base rate of about £3,200 for tution and £3,500 for living costs, then theirs a means tested (based on salary) grant that goes up to about £1000 for each student
Wales and Scotland gets it's tuition fees payed for by their assembly/parliament, although i'm not 100% sure if that is paid back after university. Which I should do really if I'm in Wales! :P
i see... must've been thinking of the US. ;)
over here, if you need financial assistance, the government is next to hopeless. i was the grandson of a WW2 veteran, and I was using up the remaining education grant my dad didn't use up in uni. I took them FOUR - yes, FOUR - years to grant it, by which time, I'd already graduated. My younger sis will use it instead. you're better off asking for help from the unis themselves.
:D
thats completely useless
yeah, id hate to be in US, you have to get either a massive scholorship or just lucky with your parents
ouch :/ that's very stupid.
or, most probably, get a job - a blue-collar one, at that. :O
it has its advantages, but it's still pretty tedious.
that's the government for you right there. it's a combination of bureaucratic red tape and a general lack of funds.
Where is home/whereever you are now?
The Philippines. Manila, to be precise. Have you read about us? ;)
It rings a bell yes ;)
Anything specific you can recall? ;)
Umm....nope...
Do tell?
Hmmm... Well, not sure what to tell you - I don't know what you guys studied. You may remember us if you discussed WW2 in the Pacific.
Ah right, sounds familiar. I have no memory for dates and places, but it rings some sort of bell.
This is blasted way out of proportion and worst of all I can see Hamilton leaving F1 within the next year if not before Abu S
Dhabi
Aren't you the guys with the envelopes ;)
What was the point to that? I know folk try to do something different but they must be able to come up with something better than that
Nah, I don't think Lewis will leave. No one will let him leave - not McLaren, not Max and Bernie, not the fans. Besides, if he DOES leave, what will he do with himself? He's been racing all his life.
Yeah, manila envelopes, that came from us. It's because the material of those envelopes were originally only available here.
give them points for originality - they're the first team to even try something different.
Remember how I was coming up with, 'Hamilton goes to NASCAR' headlines yesterday (has it appeared on gmm yet ;)), maybe its the truth
That and the Masacre of course. Sadly I must admit to not knowing much more. Hold on... One of the few places controlled by America before they pretended to stop doing that kind of thing. Am I remembering that right?
The NASCAR boys will just eat Lewis alive. No way he'll survive that environment.
Speaking of NASCAR, our old buddy JPM is 13th and has been on an upward trend as of late. It's still a VERY long way to the Chase, but if he does make it in, it may just get rather interesting. :D
.
In this invitation to comment I have pulled some thoughts from various sources
I think McLaren's hearing sets a new precedent and it is very difficult to know what or if any action the FIA will take against McLaren, but in brief they seem to have done the following...
Source: http://vee8.doctorvee.co.uk/2009/04/06/why-mclarens-actions-were-wrong/
This is not a case of breaking the rules in the heat of the moment's rash action. It is not even a liberal interpretation of some regulation of the car. On the face of it this seems to have been a more strategic action to disadvantage a competitor so it will need to be judged rather differently.
In attempting to downplay the situation many former F1 drivers have said that the drivers have to subscribe to the official team line with means that they regularly include omissions, providing misleading information and even untruths in statements they make to the press. How does the FIA deal with this "new" knowledge about its business. How do sponsors feel about Formula 1 if it knowing practices and condones such deceptions? How serious is it for one team to falsely accuse another team of irregularities that ensures it is penalised?
In its hearing I think the FIA needs to put most of its emphasis on Martin Whitmarsh's testimony. Martin has distanced himself fairly spectacularly from Dave Ryan accounts (two) to the race stewards. Here are some post-race comments reported by ITV.
Source: http://www.itv-f1.com/news_article.aspx?id=45448
Martin skilfully introduces the information that Dave was responsible for the Spa incident. Despite this he was promoted to Sports Director earlier this year.
DoctorVee has brought the following about Whitmarsh statements to the public's attention...
Source: http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/
Martin Whitmarsh in an interview with Ted Kravitz intermediately after the race said the following...
A lot of people have picked up on the use of the word ordinarily
James Allen observes...
Martin Whitmarsh gets even more specific in another interview with Autosport where he said...
"Lewis didn't stop, and the telemetry data which was shown to the stewards today showed that the lap on which he was overtaken was no different from the succeeding lap that was under the safety car. It was difficult conditions but there was no evidence from the data that Lewis did anything that induced Trulli to go past."
"If we look at the speed traces at that time, and compare it to other periods behind the safety car, then Lewis did not do anything abnormal."
"I think it is also quite clear that Trulli should not have re-passed."
"As soon as that happened, we then spoke to Race Control, to explain that and ask if we could retake that place."
Source: http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5134263,00.html
An interesting aspect of the above is that McLaren had provided the stewards with their telemetry. Is it possible that Martin knew all of this but was still unaware of the radio communications between Hamilton and his team up to four days latter?
Martin Whitmarsh continues in the above interview with Autosport by saying...
Now Martin's tries to justify the omissions made by Dave and Lewis that the FIA knew the contents of the radio conversation, yet he, as the Team Principal for McLaren, does not know of their full contents either.
I might have got this horribly screwed up (both Gavin and Steven Roy tell me I know nothing) and the sources used may incorrectly have reported conversions. Nevertheless part of me still thinks it is uncannily close to the initial protestations that McLaren made during spy-gate along the lines of senior management did not know and it was a rogue employee acting on their own.
Here are my questions...
1) Can we give McLaren, and more specifically Martin Whitmarsh, the benefit of the doubt this time round?
2) Was Dave Ryan really operating on his own and attempting to restore a lost point for Lewis Hamilton due to the team not knowing the rules? In other words he was fairly dismissed after 35 years of service?
3) Is the FIA simply too incompetent in the running of races that this is ultimately all their fault?
It would be good to know who feels it is yes to all of the above questions.
even if things get really really bad Lewis won't leave f1. His dad won't let him ;)
He is a racing driver. He is not leaving F1 in the next 10 years
bingo! unless his dad wants to leave too... :D
But he can be a racing driver and race in other series, if that's the only reason. Of course, what can beat F1 at this point...?
Im going to have to play devil's advocate here, because I have to say I had a completly painless UCAS experience last year, and for me it was really as simple as it sounds. Though It was counterbalanced with the torrid time I had with my financial forms - my local authority just didnt have its act together.
Speaking of student finance, Id also like to add that I dont know exactly how the g'ment calculates the grants, but I get far more than I need and have been blowing a considerable amount on clothes. For example, Im currently sitting in a £150 pair of jeans! :P
there's a good reason why sidepodcast is not doing a video for every grandprix this year...
Oooh... pricey... :P
:D
I think we should have a video of you with your head in a bucket describing a lap of the Chinese Grand Prix ;)
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/74391
USF1 became USGPE is going to become Team USF1 because that does not affect the F1 trademark because it has Team in it. What?
:D :D
His driving style is tailor made for F1. He would not be suited to NASCAR or IRL.
Say what??
You my friend....suck :P haha
Nah just kidding, your very lucky about UCAS, i dont know anyone's whos been completely painless.
in case you missed it, here's one nico did for melbourne.
Surely you can rustle that up for us this afternoon :)
there is no trademark for f1. bernie does not own it. what the chuff is windsor spouting now?
If that is the sort of stuff Allianz are sending out I can understand you can't make much of it.
I think Im the exception to the rule that proves its right ;)
not so - f1 is trademarked by bernie. read the bit that comes at the end of every season DVD.
That could work. Ideally a Chinese bucket. Then for each race we could have a different cotainer/vessel reflecting the country the race is in.
haha. i don't mind it, and now i've pretty much finished having to deal with it its ok. but its just a bit of a faff
But seriously - if Team USF1 will go for Cosworth, they won't have anyone to rely on to create a base design. They're already most F1 teams who have started on their 2010 cars already. Someone better be designing their car right now.
What does a Chinese bucket look like? I think it's just like any other bucket, to be honest.
well, they have the 3d lap. the same one we've been using for the past 2 years.
in all serious though, red bull have cut back and toyota have stopped too. there's simply no money around to shoot the footage. we should probably congratulate allianz for doing something, even if it's complete and utter drivel.
this is their, what, 10th season now? it's actually quite astonishing they're still at it.
IT IS NOT!
he recently lost another trademark case in the uk. just because it's written does not make it fact.
As a one off it was pretty lame but they can't seriously be repeating the same thing for every race.
not sure how many years they been doing the videos, but they're looking dated compared to red bull's singapore preview last year.
we'll probably do something with the abu dhabi video though, just because it's new.
but is it worth going through all the trouble in court just to keep the f1 in their team name? a new team can't afford losing that time and money - they'll just respect bernie's wishes and accept his claim to it.
They got into the sport before all the other financial companies didnt they? Somebody high up is probably an F1 fan.
Bernie claims he has a trade mark but he doesn't/
Yup - they were the first ones in, and at this rate, they may be the last ones out - or they may be the only ones staying in.
they did this one for malaysia. i guess they want to mix it up.
can't believe itv are running them though.
they're not exactly spoilt for choices, are they? not too many to choose from nowadays. ;)
agreed, but windsor doesn't have to spout complete BS in the process does he? that's just perpetuating bernie's lies.
They have had people doing drawing their car for weeks now
true enough. but then i guess i'm still baffled why they even have an f1 site :)
he'll do anything to get Bernie's blessing, it seems.
Eh? Who? Haven't heard anything of it.
as a new team, you really wouldnt want him against you
in the words of Ron Dennis, "Welcome to the Piranha Club."
he'll fit in just fine.
last i heard on the trademark case was this story:
"Formula One bosses failed to secure exclusive rights to the sport's 'F1' abbreviation on Thursday after Britain's Trademark Registry ruled against them."
link
in fairness, in today's q&a windsor does say "protected", rather than trademarked. i guess in this case protected means "not approved by bernie".
of note, the company who originally disputed the trademark case (racing-live sa) have now been bought by espn. no idea if that will increase their desire to fight bernie, or mean they're more likely roll over the minute he asks?
Peter Windsor mentioned a couple of weeks ago that they have people starting the layout of the car. I can't remember where I saw.
may have been on the speedtv video interview?
more likely roll over, i'd think.
I hope these guys have recent F1 experience. If not, they're in for a bumpy ride.
Quite so. And don't forget that in the dim and distant past PW almost bought Brabham from Bernie.
just had a quick look at the stats for itv's f1 website, and things are not looking good:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/itv-f1-daily-unique-visitors-jpg
they've halved their visitors since the last race of last year, and autosport have equalled and almost passed them:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/itv-f1-vs-autosport-jpg
steven roy hasn't told me that yet? how am i supposed to know my f1 history at a rate of five articles a quarter :(
Oh dear, soon people will have forgton full stuff. Any real point of them carrying on as a website? I mean most of the staff have went to the BBC and Allen now has his own blog?
mike lawrence made a blind reference to that in an old Pitpass article, right?
Well, the BBC still had an F1 section even when ITV had the rights. But expect the budget for this to drop significantly.
don't know.
on the plus side, unique views have levelled off. i guess they can keep going as long as advertising income is greater than outgoing expenditure? unless they have to pay the staff anyway, in which case, it'll keep going until the end of 2009.
their problem now, is james allen copies his content onto his blog too. so i can read the same words over there with a cleaner layout and i can respond in the comments.
possibly. i think i it was covered in the comments at some point too. so it was somewhere in the back of my mind. i wouldn't buy a postage stamp from ecclestone, let alone an f1 team!
but what if bernie was the only guy selling postage stamps? you wouldn't have a choice, would you?
ha! bloomin' good point. umm...
annoyingly, i can't think of a single scenario that doesn't see me hand delivering my own mail :(
you win.
To be fair you read two of them before on F1 pitlane last year so it was only three new articles. I have a quarter of my next article kind of written.
w00t! :D
courier :D
does it involve peter windsor? apparently i'm lacking knowledge in that area?
motogp? never been a fan.
I've tried too, never grabbed me really
I watch it regularly, but not religiously. It has its charms, but nothing like F1.
i'm not going to lie, that took me a very long time to get that :P
Ha! :P
It can be good, depends on the race, there's generally more overtaking but it really depends on the track.
;)
It can also shoot itself in the foot like F1, oddly enough. Their first night race was a flop too. :)
i prefered their night race because it was on a proper circuit, some of the overhead shots were amazing.
I have four srticles planned and I would be surprised if he appeared in any of them. I am going to have to become more prolific than my current pedestrian pace. The really annoying thing is the stuff I do write i write really quickly. There are just long gaps between the bouts of creativeness. I need to focus my energies. I feel a cunning plan forming.
but the track was rather... dull. it was also hard to make out the crowds, unlike SG. all you could clearly make out were the hoardings.
Greetings from the sweat box known as Houston, Texas.
Would this mean that the letters only get delivered to places that pay Bernie a fee for mail to come to them?
I love Moto GP. Some of the best racing there is and Valentino Rossi is an incredible character.
Say, didn't Wrestlemania just come from there last Sunday? :D
that being the second thing i love about it....characters
Rossi is MotoGP's savior. Take him out, and what are you left with?
I spent a day there once a while ago. It was hot.
It's true to a certain extent, but I think it's a bit overhyped. I mean, what do we really know about Stoner or Hayden? Sure, we hear about them a lot, but what do we really know?
Not as hot as here or Sepang, I'm sure. ;)
They had great racing before Rossi they will have great racing after Rossi. Doohan was great, Schwantz was insane, Rainey was great, Gardner and then before that you had Roberts and Sheene.
Third they put out great fan videos and podcasts.
Fourth they actually have video game out
Fifth they have two races in the states
Sixth they have a good website
Seventh they are not afraid to have fans make tribute videos
Eighth... I could go on and on and on...
thats probably more to do with the fact that we're car fans, i know the whole British motorsport scene for single seaters, saloon cars and most of GT cars....what do i know about bike racing? Superbikes, Supersport and MotoGP, and WSB too, couldnt tell you anything about the bikes though.
In a racing aspect, that's true. But in a commercial aspect, not sure if they'll ever be able to match Rossi. The reason MotoGP began to build a global image (i.e. outside Europe and Australia) was Rossi.
I don't go on many F1 news sites at all. I look at ITV F1 daily, and sometimes Autosport and Pitpass. ITV F1 does have The Gravel Trap though. :P
They will pick up the reigns eventually. We had all those years where it was only Rossi and Gibernau until Gibernau decided to wind up Rossi and Rossi destroyed him. It is never a good idea to annoy someone with that amount of ability. Giving him extra motivation to beat you is a bad plan.
I remember an interview with Billy Bremner who was the Scotland captain in the 1982 World cup in Spain. Scotland took the lead against Brazil and in the interview Bremner said 'All the others were celebrating like they had won the tournament but I knew we had just annoyed them.' Final result was 4-1.
Never been there but it is not as hot or humid as Sao Paolo.
talking of which. didn't rob say that this was coming back the thursday before the first gp?
http://www.grandprixdiary.com/
I was thinking, does Ted have a blog anywhere? I always looked forward to his Notebooks when he was with ITV, and he doesn't seem to have a column on BBC F1.
Agreed. I wonder when Rossi will step aside, though, and if he'll be able to do so as champion...
this came up the other day, and despite everyone agreeing the bbc f1 website was a sea of unnavigable content... we failed to find a ted notebook.
without a ted notebook, there is no TED!news :(
this makes Jon sad. :(
we have ted news during a GP weekend don't we?
yeah. but TED!news came from his post race notebooks. that's what started it. during a race he's just giving us pitlane info we're not aware of yet.
notebook's were post race news, covering important things we'd missed during the weekend.
Yes we have Ted during a GP weekend, but we want him all the time like we used to get! Damnit BBC.
Has anyone sent an e-mail to the beeb telling them. Start a campaign.
Anyway must go out into the real world for a little while. I have a map, compass and shark repellant so I should be quite safe.
http://vee8.doctorvee.co.uk/tag/ted-kravitz/
You guys probably know about that but for those that don't, I've just come across it. The BBC analysis on the first was good, now onto the ITV one.
I'm going out into the dream world. Good night, guys. See you in the morning. Given Mr C's weird sleeping hours last night, I'll probably catch him later. ;)
hehe. night journeyer.
Based on the video of CBBC commentary on that page, it seems an absolutely terrifying feed. :|
Quite possibly hehe.
Night
http://timesonline.typepad.com/formula_one/2009/04/some-people-are-on-the-pitchthey-think-its-all-overit-is-now-well-maybe.html
Tee hee.
For anyone who hasnt heard the CBBC commentary.....
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8thqb_safety-car-mic_auto
I stopped at
'What if Max Mosley ran football....'
I couldn't bare it anymore after
i happened to be listening to that when they ran the piece. the problem is, that really was the best thing they did all race.
This worries me....
For the love of god, make it stop, just make it stop.
I'm still terrified
Wow
"there's race control, they're the guys that control the race"
i can see it becoming a cult classic.
whatever happened to good cbbc stuff? :(
almost as insightful as the bbc live text:
"The clouds are gathering, reports DC. Yikes..."
yeah, thanks for that.
have cbeebies ever done radio before? normally it's all visual isn't it? i'd imagine children's radio is a tough gig.
I am scared because next Friday I will be at work during practice, and BBC live text will be all I have. Stupid China timezone being too close to my one.
:| ....wtf.
You use the live text when your not watching the race
you listened to the CBBC commentary all the way through the race?!
actually i can beat that:
"BBC Sport's Sarah Holt in Sepang: I've been burning rubber on my way back from the paddock to bring you the latest tyre news."
oh, how we guffawed.
I cant even handle that 1 minute clip..
lots during race one. none at all during race 2 :)
but.... why?
I know you don't like Legard
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/p22egg-jpg
P22 resting after going to buy some eggs.
Autosport's live text is good IIRC. Though you may have to register, not sure.
p22 catching up on local affairs
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/p22paper-jpg
I'm not a fan of him (and I still stand bymy james comment) but he doesn't deserve that! :D
it's the poor parents that have to listen to that as well that i feel sorry for.
How many 8 year olds were listening at 5am?
I'm disappearing, catch you the other side of the weekend. :-)
a) because no-one else was. and live commenting was telling us anything important that the commentary team said.
b) because legard was more annoying.
c) i really thought it might be something special. a great opportunity to bring f1 to a younger generation.
d) i was there watching teletubbies way before they got famous, and i thought it might become something equally as popular.
See ya Pat
it is much, much better. the bbc should just syndicate that.
I work for a Pay TV company and the sites I can visit are restricted solely to the channels we carry, one of which is BBC World. So no autosport for me :(
see ya, pat.
James comment?
On the panel I said Im starting to miss james allen to much disgust ;)
rats. do ya have a mobile?
me, I love your tweet to fakesebbuemi...3 episodes out, noooo
i'm still giggling now :D
that I do, it's how I comment on sidepodcast, but the browser on it is kind of rubbish
Just... why???
is it good enough to run either doohickey or lclt? failing that, you might be able to refresh the comment feed.
if all else fails, we may be able to put up a simple text page for you to refresh during the sessions.
They better be in the uk doing that.
nope doesn't run the doohicky or lclt sadly, i usually just refresh the comment feed but it takes forever to scroll to the bottom. Simple text is the best because I don't have a data plan and it ends up being very expensive feeding my sidepodcast/twitter addiction throughout the day
I see smilies show up in the recent comments section now... :)
will see what we can do. likely it'll be read-only for china, but it should help you figure out what's going on. we'll add a post comment option asap.
am completely confused what happened there? i didn't touch it, but there are now more words and smilies.
Anyone who has access to the iplayer, "I've never seen star wars:hugh dennis" is very good, last weeks is good too if its still there!
hehe i'll check it out later this evening :D
love it!
tempting :P
was watching a load of his stuff earlier from Mock the Week, the newsreels he does where he voices over celebrities and royalty is absolutely hilarious
:D
Hi guys, anyone up for Skype later on? :)
hello all. did you see my holiday snap in dropio?
Looks like a beatiful relax in the sun
hullo!
that's a boat!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/1239371961405
Hey Christine :) having a nice time?
Cold and wet so far but very relaxing. Opened a couple of locks, caught up with the archers and even driven the boat!!
:) sounds lovely.
If I wanted cold and wet I'd have stayed at home, but personal choice
erm... i got melted easter egg on my jumper and spent the afternoon commenting.
i fixed the hoover though.
personally i don't mind the rain. i find it strangely relaxing :)
I'd rather have a bucket load of rain than being in the sun, cools you down and like you say, is more relaxing
The rain rocks, I love having rain tapping on the window... find it so relaxing :)
Although it makes me laugh when out in it in newport city centre and everyone will run for shelter if it rains but I'll happily march through it
Yesterday at the charity match I was at, it started to pour, everyone pulled there hood up and I'm thinking, Whats the Rush?
!!!
Martin Brundle is on Question of Sport in 30 mins!!
yay!!!
Just to confirm...
Joining the regulars are former Everton and Scotland footballer Andy Gray, New Zealand rugby great Justin Marshall, European Cup winner Paul Lambert and ex-Formula One driver turned pundit Martin Brundle.
:D! Andy Gray as well!
Andy Gray, well we'll just have to mute him
Hmm wonder if I can find a justin.tv stream for this. Justin Marshall!
Och no! Not andy!
If that what it takes for you to relax then there are few resorts in the pacific northwest that I would recommend...
I could talk about him, but this is a family place
Rain makes me think of this song :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7tBuQrubxE
Woot, joe satriani!
The photos I took at Albert Park today
A look-see at what Albert Park looks like 2 weeks after the race. Sadly I didn't get any in the pit lane because security are still patrolling it and they wouldn't let me in.
I was sad because it's my favourite part of the circuit. It's the only part that doesn't get used the rest of the year, so the rubber from the F1 cars doesn't get disturbed.
On the end of The One Show then on BBC1 im sure Adrian Chiles said thry have Jackie Stewart on next week... will have to confirm that I think later.
QoS on in a sec! :D
Brundle on QoS now
It is amazing how fast all that stuff comes down.
THe onld saying is if the FIA ran football we would have round pitches and square balls. Christine used that a while ago on an intro.
Damn Andy Gray can stay.
amy, that is wonderful, thank you.
i know you recently said you're not confident with writing. but i'm sure the story behind those pics would make for one heck of a guest post.
Blimey, it's all gone so quickly! :(
Just watching QoS. Their question to Brundle couldn't have been any easier could it? "Which circuit did Sebastian Vettel win at in 2008?"
the ones i took of the circuit being constructed are far more exciting because it meant racing was on its way, not that racing had recently finished. I'll see if I can throw something together
that would be appreciated. i like the ones you just took, because we always see plenty of atmospheric build-up shots. we rarely, if ever, see what formula 1 leaves behind.
When they said about stuff beginning with V i thought something Vettel related instantly but I didnt think it'd be that easy!
They could have asked, 'Where did Heikki Kovalainen finish in the race which Vettel won?' or something like that
true that. I'll be taking pg22 on a visit too so I'll get some more then
once they asked him to name the circuit... the photo was the brdc centre at silverstone.
awwww!
Its very easy on QoS tonight... wonder what Martin will be asked...
Where did Lewis Hamilton finish in last seasons championship
what is your surname?
Which British driver with a first name of Lewis won the 2008 F1 championship?
"An F1 car has four 'wheels', but for 2 points, what are they made of?"
magnesium?
I think that commentary was from Belgium 1997
oooh, so close.
metal?
Heikenen?!
Who's Hi-konen?
Is the correct answer.
ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?!
"F1 wheels are usually made from forged magnesium alloy due its low density and high strength."
Therefore i win, twice :D
According to Autosport (the paper one) Ant Davidson is going to be racing at Spa in the Franckless race.
I missed that one. Who was it?
Cool, driving what?
They asked who teh f1 driver was who was taking off his helmet and Phil Tuffnell said Heikenen :D
Can't remember. Some sports prototype or other.
And Bruno Senna got third in the last LMS round
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com/2009/04/force-to-be-reckoned-with-perhaps.html
good man ;)
cool!! when is it? :D
But who was it really?
It was actually Hakkinen
Hakkinen.
Sadly it wasnt Gray who said it.
I believe it's going to be the new Nissan GT-R GT1 :D
ooooooooooooh
hows my fellow kiwi doing?
Sorry to pester again but Skype anyone? :) Gavin, Steven, Andy, Mr C even? :p
He won, was alongside Tuffnell and that other guy. He got the rugby ones right
erm... well... April - ish
Not tonight for me Scott
Funny, I always thought everyone on question of sport were losers ;)
May 10th / 11th
http://www.race-rally.be/2009/1000km2009/default.aspx?lang=en
LMS webby says 8-10th may
9th / 10th not 10th 11th
Oh how I miss rugby, in Melbourne if it's not Aussie Rules it's not on TV
Not even rugby league?
It gets very minimal coverage and only the state team. When I mentioned that NZ beat Australia in the World Cup to my workmates, they didn't even know the World Cup was on.
I thought considering they were the best in the world and with the NRL, it'd be popular
I think it is everywhere else in the country, but Victoria is very focused on their own game. NRL is huge in New South Wales.
*sigh* that's exam time...
we talking about Silverstone 1000km?
Spa not Silverstone
oooh, interesting
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJpURLp4wYI
This is a proper version of the Renault Crash, btw did anyone realise the person driving was an FIA Official??
Go to 1:25, tis quite genius. He takes alot longer for him to crash that i originally thought.
Evening all. I don't want to worry any one, especially me, but the last time Christine was on a boat she got married. Hopefully she's not intending on repeating this.
Anyone remember that facebook marriage thingy she got?
Do tell?
Apparantly someone asked her for a 'Facebook Marriage' whatever that is.
hahaha
Really. I thought it was the bearded guy with the Renault race suit that was being interview earlier.
If that is the case, he might be looking for job pretty soon.
I'm boooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeddddddddddddd!!!
That is a wierd crash. I assumed he spun the wheels off the line but it looks like he took it easy off the line and then planted his foot when he changed into second.
I'm sulking, someone's just pointed out Timo Glock has a girlfriend. :(
Oh dear.
This social networking thing is getting out of control.
That is the same guy. He is 14 times middle eastern rally champion, FIA vice president for that area and has a whole load of other roles. He is really well known unlike most of the FIA blazers
I'm sorry to hear that :P
Start a new religion
Why is that a bad thing?
Did you want to be his girlfriend?
you're too young for him anyway RG ;)
I thought the rumour was they broke up just before Australia? Unless he's got a new one since then.
I liked the thought he was single y'know
I don't care, unless, he could adopt me and he'll be my best dad ever.
I hope your proper Dad never reads that
Or worst, he'd never be around, he won't be earning that much either so it's not like you'll get a life that would be loads better. Plusss your life would be in the media. Sounds poo to me
He's at work, I can have two dads right? Day to Day dad and Get me into F1 Paddock Dad
You have more than 1?!?
haha :D
Jackie-ology?
Works for lewis...
What are the fundamentals of Jackie-ology then?
pmsl :)
Hello All from Australia. For some strange reason, I'm awake while the sparrows are still making funny noises.
I am surprised that it took this long before we started talking about an official religion for sidepodcast.
Hi Jeremy :)
Wow, now it's an official religion, that was quick
Breaking wind?
sidepodcastology?
That's the one. Trying to be funny without being rude. Christine is away though - does that mean the boys are of the leash?
*off the leash*
:D
Well it does feature a mysterious figure known only as me
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3318/3429893334_ea99b6556a.jpg?v=0
Turns out I did sneakily snap the BBC crew. I have no memory of doing this.
Ahhh Jakey boy
Was it that traumatic seeing them in the flesh? Or just a really busy day?
and worsip of a certain page 22
worship
I fear what the consequences are. The Wrath of Christine might be just as bad as the Wrath of Kahn.
Plus other bizarre rituals and a regular Sunday gathering.
@Amy - have you been up all night? How's the Melbourne weather? It's supposed to rain in Sydney today - it is the Easter long weekend after all!
But the Wrath of Khan is good. One of the best Star Trek films ever.
true .. stage 8.1?
The Ten Commandments of Sidepodcast more like
I have been up all night! We had a dinner party that went until 3am, and it's thrown me right off. I want to go to sleep but I want to finish uploading 2 years worth of photos to flickr since I finally bothered to pay for a pro account. Weather has been good, thankfully. I have a busy weekend, I don't need rain!
sounds like another wiki page
oooooh dear
1) Thou Shalt Listen Only Too Sidepodcast, or any team related one, some of the fan ones allowed as well.
2) Thou Must Have A Blog
No.
3) Thou shall not besmirch the one called "Franck."
Should the holy trinity be Franck, LeSeb and Luca?
I'm just so bored and need someone to talk to. I gather Skype is out of the question since it looks like no-one's on tonight, which is understandable
Sinner!
(welcome to the club!)
Luca?
Talk here mate. Is there something wrong with us ;)
Lucas Di Grassi.
A link for you Scott http://jmm.aaa.net.au/articles/6683.htm
We're too religious?
Yes, him. typo.
You may be the man to help me then!
I'm looking for a good racing game for my PC, i've got Vista, 2Ghz Processor, 2GB Memory, i know GRID is meant be amazing, but i think it would lag too much, is Rfactor any good? what about Race07?
Anyideas?
My condolences. Only 2GB, how do you cope?
Gold!
:D
I'm doomed on 5, 7 and 15
I'm sure he means 2gb of RAM rather than hard drive :D
I know, its tough :P
He's limited to 3.2 GB anyway. "Vista - because men can't multitask anyway"
I know that. my comment still stands.
:D
yeah, thats what i meant
I forgot just how fizzy lemonade is
LOL
any racing game thoughts anyone? PC (with my limited specs :P)
I also like the poster I found recently (can't find it online now) - shows Bill Gates in a Steve Jobs like pose, a WIndows logo and the slogan "Think Difficult"
Depends on the lemonade. Hope you've not been sharing it with your keyboard.
Sorry Jon, looks like all you'll get from us tonight is religious (anti-windows) zeal
oh joy
Sprite - official drink of sidepodology?
I don't do computer games I'm afraid .. burp .. blooming lemonade!
Don't you mean unnamed clear sugary fizzy drink?
And what's wrong with that? :D
C'mon! Christine is away. I know I've missed everything that's been said for the last couple of days but I'm here now and it's time to be cheeky.
Having said that, I have to go out for 30 mins. I expect you all to hold the fort for me. How many brand names can we squeeze in?
Oh great - I go away for half an hour and you lot have started a religion!
And all the good positions are gone. How do you feel about 'serf'?
Please, enter. We can offer you cupcakes, what can other religions offer?
Uh-oh
Inner peace? Heaven? Fufillment?
I've just realised that so long as the official Church of Sidepodcast drink isn't Kool-Aid, I'm fine with whatever is chosen :)
just think of how christine is doing to feel when she comes back in a few days time :)
Yes but cupcakes with Postman Pat beat all that.
Um. Yeah. Is it now we blame Steven or later? Best to get our story straight I think.
Inner Peace is the reasurement you will be recognised on sidepodcast
Heaven is talking on the doohickey, commenting about your favourite sport.
Fulfillment is having people talk to you, noticing you, taking care of you. Making you feel happy and laughing
It was Jackie's fault.
Christine will never leave the building again. She goes to a GP and an F1 team gets started then she has a weekend off and comes back to find a religion in place.
I blame Steven Roy :D
:D
Comment #745
So now it is then.
Ten Commandments #4
Thou Shalt Always Blame Steven Roy of Scotland
Now and later. ;)
when the evidence comes to light
This is going on the Wiki.
:D
You mean the holy wiki
Aww, that's nice
:D
Best make sure they are no gaps then
Man I need to catch up on the whole religious thing thats suddenly popped up... :D
Best ignore it....:P
has anyone heard from Mr C lately?... i hope he's not blown their kitchen up while trying to get some food :D
What would happen if she did go somewhere else again? What could we create that would be of more significance than a religion??
Please, join us. Respect the benefits available
Another world?
Sidepodplanet?
Its that washing machine... ;)
Probably! :D
He's probably sleeping off the effects of combining Easter Egg and unnamed Enery Drink. That's a sugar rush and a half!
He is probably communing with the great panda god
World domination plan but I am saving that for when more than one person is bored.
haha :) so you'll tell us during the European GP then? ;)
soz. just back from obtaining indian takeaway and box of rose.
sadly i cannot live comment such events without the aid of the wife and her mobile device.
am in for the night now though. what has one missed?
oh.
That may be a problem if I'm overthrowing the British government
aha, so you were getting chocolate, we were half right
Not a lot, just a new religion
And you can benefit Mr C, we have gods that are real, proof of them existing
cool. who are we following.
"Gee Brain, what do you want to do tonight?"
"The same thing we do every night, Pinky—try to take over the world."
dont even ask
pink wine, not a selection of quaintly wrapped nibbles.
I think he means rosé - alcoholic non-energy drink.
oooh rosé, i thought you'd said roses but missedo off the s
Have you ever been the subject of religious fervour before?
????
Is your middle name Jolly?
how long have i been away?
I think you'd better go and read back through the comments. Before you do I'd just like to point out that it was Steven's fault.
*stares blankly*
:D
I've just checked and it really is Steven's fault this time.
As a religious man, you should not stare blankly, instead be done by the three promises, fulfilment, inner peace and heaven
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Best+Comment+of+the+Year
Scroll to the bottom.
It was Jackie's fault. She was bored and wanted something to do. I made a little suggestion. That's all.
i am not the messiah.
We never said that. Neither are you naughty.
:(
franck must be our leader?
Steven 'Stewie Griffin' Roy?
Franck is the messiah. Let's see if you are brave enough to deny him.
you have some catching up to do ;)
Who?
You are providing us with misleading information.
Family Guy reference. No, I am not too old to watch cartoons.
:D
Since I use the nickname 'Devil' on other sites that I visit, I propose that I be 'Bernmax' of Sidepodology
So is Bourdais, Di Grassi and [insert someone Christine likes here] the three wise men?
Just watched the new Red Dwarf - hmmm.
Laughed a couple of times, not bad so far
Also borrowed next doors wireless connection *whistles innocently*
its the rosé, none of this is actually happening....atleast i hope not anyway...
Is that the next doors with the girl gamers?
For some reason, box-o-wine is called 'Goon' in Australia. At least, that's what I'm told. I'd never heard the expression until the girl told me.
Not at all. Read the comments. Jackie said she was bored. I said SHE should start a religion and then somone else turned it into a sidepod religion.
I'm currently in Norwich - yay.....
The girlie gamers are in Hitchin.
So who gets the blame now?
Ah yes, of course. Hows Norwich?
Am going to guess the reply, but lets see if I'm right.
What other kind was she going to come up with on this site?
Must.resist.making.joke.
I think I did suggest the Ten Commandments of Sidepodcast. But that was it
I didn't start it, honest!
I did suggest it might make the wiki
I refuse to answer that question ont he grounds that it will be massively censored. ;)
I've been to Norwich. You have my sympathies.
:D
I used to live here - I managed to escape!
But the parents havent...
So a bit like me and Reading then.
I'm just reading the Wikipedia article on Norwich. There's a bit about how Steve Coogan based Alan Partridge in the city and even had him broadcasting on the radio there:
"Since then Radio Norwich has ceased to be a fictitious station - it began broadcasting in 2006 - although, unsurprisingly, "Up With The Partridge" does not feature in its schedule."
i have caught up with the comments... i am officially none the wiser
:D
You are now part of the religious experience on sidepodcast.com, we offer to give you the best in love at sidepodcast. Heavens of doohickey, dreams of formula 1, worshipping the messiah's and wise men and the equivelent of moses (to be announced) of the world
You and me both.
Great photos Amy. :)
Ah. Well we might just have to pretend it didn't happen then.
ive watched it happen and i havent a cllue whats going on
sooo, franck is the messiah? i like we need a photoshopped halo...
*think* we need...
It's worth it just for RG's comment:
"Inner Peace is the reassurance you will be recognised on sidepodcast
Heaven is talking on the doohickey, commenting about your favourite sport.
Fulfillment is having people talk to you, noticing you, taking care of you. Making you feel happy and laughing"
Does that make Max King Herod?
hiiii :)
I've drunk a fair bit of wine tonight, yet I currently feel like the most sober person here.
Either him or Bernie or Whiting or Donnelly
Is lukeh the god of photoshop?
yay!
ive had no alcohol and feel drunk, this is a wierd evening
:D
apparently so.
Drinking is an accepted substance in the world of our religion
I love a cheap date ;)
:D
I'm in.
I'd forgotten about the Christmas message.
it's been a long four months.
That'll be £10,000 please.
When you get to my age...
I'm out, 10 grand buys a lot of wine.
No. We don't need to charge entrance. This is a religion, not a cult.
Rimmer - what a Smeeeeeeeeeeee....
Or your own religion :D
You sure about that?
I'll take the wine any day.
Yes. We freely share our philosophy and beliefs. Plus we don't offer stress testing.
sorry... small crisis there... anyways...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/franck-jpg
loooooooooool
oh wow!
Christine will be happy
Excellent
All hail the god of photoshop, hail even more to the messiah
But we could get Christine and 'Me' a new mixer?
:o wow! that's awesome.
hehe :)
Ah yes. OK then - F1 Drivers pay £100,000 to join (tax deductible), the rest of us are free.
I've just remembered meandpage22 - a very poor contribution from me via the isight camera.
i likes it :)
Aww thanks :) Must now go to bed. It's been a tiring day. Night all and may your Sidepodgod go with you. :)
Bye Andy.
Goodnight Andy
haha. see ya tomorrow.
night Andy :)
goodnight
Night Andy. :)
Has everyone gone to bed?
writing a daily post. i have 9 minutes...
Nope, but this sidepodreligion is tiring
I think they are all in church
Cool .. anticipation ;)
I have devised my own Super Season Grid on my blog and I thought I'd share it with you. I've taken the fastest lap times from every driver across the entire race weekends and found an average lap time from them. So here is the Super Season grid after Malaysia.

nope... it's not 2am yet ;)
:D
How come Kovi makes an appearance, I thought he didn't complete a race lap in either race
going soon, up for work at 6 :(
Poor you .. I am off till Thursday
on a saturday? gutted
i better get these batracer runs done soon then :)
if you do no runs you'll still be a second faster than me :(
:( what team are you with?
you lot are insane... I mean that in the nicest way possible :-)
renault :( they're the slowest team apart from Force India :( :(
i blame Mr C and Steven Roy for my crazy sleeping patterns. They are a bad influence ;)
:(
I know ive said it before but it's still very strange seeing williams back leading stuff and toyota, brawn, red bull etc being the first team choices when we started.
Not that im complaining... ;)
My fault again?
Aw Poor Steven ..but we DO love you
it's always your fault ;) plus you're often up like Mr C is at silly hours in the morning :P
He did Free Practice and Qualifying, didn't he?
Yes he did, I'm just not sure that it's valid to include him since we are not compairing like with like, we don't for example know how heavily fuelled etc he was or whether he faced any traffic on those laps.
it's a difficult one. q2 times might be representative, but then massa didn't go out for another run.
What are you writing about if I mght ask? {Comment #386}
I'm writing a stage play about aliens coming to Earth and a group of people at an unnamed Space Agency attempting to convince the aliens that they are capable of rational thought and therefore shouldn't have their planet invaded.
Some of the characters became a bit implausible, but I suppose that's what happens when you try stuffing some dares into the script...
Hey all hows everyone’s day going so far? {Comment #394}
Fantastic. Managed to convince my Dad to join me for some camping in the middle of June...
wait, you mean im going to have to fill in the same finance forms again for hte next 3 years?! it took me ages!!!! {Commnet #411}
If you're lucky, it'll be only for 3 years. If you're unlucky like I was, you'll then spend two years after that persuading them not to take money off you to which they are not entitled (and I'm still waiting for a sizeable amount of money they owe me).
oh.. UCAS.. i’ve heard lots about it… i’m looking forward to that {Commnet #421}
I think it helps if your school/college provides support. It means they end up messing about with the website and you just end up writing what gets submitted (at least that's what happened to me).
The only problem I had was with one university who wrote back and said they'd stopped doing the course I'd applied for, but even the best university application system doesn't help there.
Hmmm… your uni admission process seems to be way more complicated than ours. Over here, we just pick which uni we want to go to, take their entrance exam, and hope for the best. If you pass their exam, you’re in. We used to have a GCSE-like exam, but they trashed it in the 1980s for some reason I don’t remember anymore.
The way it works here is, basically:
1) Decide which universities you are willing to consider.
2) Narrow it down to six or fewer (I ended up applying to four because only four unis near me did the course I wanted to do)
3) Fill in UCAS form (basically a long application form)
4) Wait for offers from universities
5) Attend any interviews or open days advised or instructed by the universities.
6) If doing a medical or related subject, take the BMAT test to assess your potential in that area. Otherwise, there may be a test set by the university or subject over and above the qualifications you are pursuing, but most likely not.
7) Wait for replies from universities and hope they don't all reject you.
8) If there's an unconditional offer and you accept it, stop reading and start looking forward to university. Otherwise, decide what your "firm" and "insurance" offers will be. The conditions of the offers are vitally important - the "insurance" option cannot require better qualifications (translated into UCAS points) than the "firm" option and you don't want to make the "insurance" option a university whose conditions are too high in case you miss. At this point, you can only have two offers open and must formally decline any others.
9) Do any examinations that are conditions for the universities you still have valid offers from. While waiting, you would be well advised to start arranging funding of some sort. Government funding can take up to nine months to come through, as I found out the hard way.
10) Get your results.
11) If you got the results for the "firm" university, stop reading and get ready to study there. Otherwise, decide whether it's worth phoning the university quickly to ask if they'll have you anyway (unpopular courses routinely allow people who've just missed the requirements to start studying there anyway).
12) If the university says no or you decide it's not worth phoning them, check your results against the "insurance" university. If your results are better than those the "insurance" university asked for, stop reading and get ready to start studying there. Otherwise, decide whether you'll phone the "insurance" university up or enter "clearing".
13) If you enter "clearing", you can pick any course at any university that still has spaces, but the university can reject you without giving a reason. Also, it's all done on phone calls, so places disappear very, very quickly. If you get in this way, housing arrangements and so on can get extremely complicated for the first few weeks...
Yow, rather complicated, to be honest. And nerve-wracking, too, especially if you don't fare so well during the exams.
not so - f1 is trademarked by bernie. read the bit that comes at the end of every season DVD. {Comment #510}
The DVD says one thing, the European Trademarks office says something completely different...
"F1 Racing" is trademarked, as is "Formula One World Championship", but in the EU at least, "F1" is not.
It's possible that Peter could have run against a US trademark issue, though, which would be a show-stopper for him seeing as his team is going to be based there.
Hmmm... Interesting point, there. That may actually be possible.
So why change it to USGPE instead of maybe USAF1?
They've changed it back to Team USF1.
Oh, so why keep US if its trademarked then?
Yow, rather complicated, to be honest. And nerve-wracking, too, especially if you don’t fare so well during the exams. {Comment #993}
That is very true. Fortunately my head of year decided to phone my "firm" option university on my behalf because he thought I might not be in the best of states to do that call (don't ask me how, but he knew my results before I got to his office to discuss the matter). Some of my classmates at university made it through clearing and they said it was a nightmare.
You mean F1? Who knows? Peter did say it's not their final name yet. They'll announce it once the entry list is released by the FIA.
Did you make it to your "firm" choice after the call, then? Clearing is the uni version of limbo - who knows where you end up?

The problem was with the F1 bit rather than the US part. As for why GPE specifically, Peter's always had a lot of respect for Williams (which was the first team to use the GPE suffix) and he also worked there as a team manager during the 1980s. Maybe this was his way of honouring that connection.
Hey everyone.
Hey Lou
Hi lou. Your a day behind aren't ya ;)
so then why do they keep changing it? can't they just leave it as an interim name and then announce the final name just before the FIA release the entry list?
bernie's pressures?

Yes - my head of year duly persuaded the "firm" choice to let me in, so I didn't have to bother making arrangements my "insurance" option at all. As it happened, my grades were good enough to get me in there automatically, so I was never really in danger of landing in "clearing", but I would have felt a bit silly if I had. You see, I'd rejected an unconditional offer from a third university earlier in the year (this being due to my AS results being only 10 points off their standard after-A2 offer...)
a day behind?.... ooh.. i see... i can say hello in the today's thread if it makes you happier? ;)
USAF1 is too close to United States Air Force One
Hey, it's all in the past, at least you got in! :D Well done!
Hey, it’s all in the past, at least you got in! {Commnet #1011}
True - and graduated with a 2:2 three years later :)
The degree turned out to be counterproductive for getting a job, but that's another story...
There is... I believe another problem in states that a number can't be trademarked. Not even if it's part of a name. I'm not certain about there was definitely something to do with this which was the reason Intel changed the name of their chips from 286, 386, 486 to Pentium.
Of course another possibility is that somebody else (perhaps Tony George) owns USF1 as a trademark and so "Team USF1" is different enough to be trademarkable.
Tony George only owns USGP, not USF1.
wouldn't it just be easier if he calls it windsorgp?
but he's not the team principal - ken anderson is.
and this is banking on US support, therefore the 'patriotic' name.
windsorandersongp?
How do you know? I mean lots of firms buy lots of trademarks ahead of time.
Bernie wouldn't have let him buy it, I'd think. And Peter would've probably looked it up if someone already owned the USF1 name.
Giggles, did you leave the drop.io/meandpage22 delete option open to everyone on purpose?
bernie couldn't stop him. bernie doesn't own any rights to the term f1.
the only thing bernie can do, is 'protect' the term, by not letting anyone play with his ball if they use that term.
No... Whoops... Fixed now :)
Thought not
which is perhaps what bernie did? stop may have been the wrong term, but he could've stopped tony george by threatening him to pull the usgp in the past?
What the heck is the point of following 932 people onTwitter?
Anyone?
How would you get anything done?
Still curious to know who this is:
http://drop.io/meandpage22/asset/omg-jpg
who's doing that then?
Perhaps you should ask that the users name is included in the pic title
Some called 'Art Sleuth' who has requested to follow my twitterings
Was trying to find out where the association is, if any
Maybe it's Gavin? He's not here to claim the pic, after all.
Good later afternoon
i have a pretty good idea, but they may wish to remain anonymous.
Just wanted to know if it was a SidePodder, don't need to know their identity
ahh i see. i can just about cope with 100 people, any more is pushing it. i guess it depends on how active the people that you follow are.
Ah, you're talking about pag22 now!
Ignore my previous
hey jackie.
How you doing on your own?
Pretty sure that's not Gavin! :D
Hey Jackie
Aha... Okay! Understood.
v.good. just had my haircut, and learnt hairdressing scissors can cost up to £500!
What the?! :D
thats probably just a days takings, think I should have got a trade instead of doing Uni
They do indeed, very sharp with extremely close tolerances and high quality materials
[my sis used to be a hairdresser, I have no need for scissors like those when I have a Mach3]
I don't have any more information than you. I was simply thinking it was odd that somebody was brave enough to put their picture on there but not comment about it. But if it's somebody connected with the mysterious secret world of Mr C then that makes some kind of sense.
Maybe they are the anti-Me? Can have photos but won't comment?
that's exactly what i was told :)
i had to listen to the differences between cheap and expensive pairs. it's quite a complicated business.
i didn't say that did i?
Makes the Stig look like an extrovert! :P
what they don't know they make up
:D
No. Sorry you didn't I was just meaning I didn't go "Aha I know who that is" I went, "Aha I don't have to worry that somebody got missed - somebody knows what's going on"!
Like any decent religion ;)
i'm more concerned about a fosters drinking gorilla, if i'm honest.
:D :D
Exactly, Fosters is horrible
:D
I thought they were done by you if I'm honest!
He didn't say they weren't
i was at work!
i did spit tea all over the imac, but there was no way i could explain to the office why i'd done so.
Oooh very true!
they weren't.
:) :)
Where could you start!
I have inside information that a page 22 picture is being captured at this very moment...
So this guy... on the internet... well hold on... remember when I said I was sick the other week... actually I was on an airfield runway watching a car driving back and forth in a straight line... and I took some photos and...
I'll get my coat
I bought some of that anti-glare screen protector for my phone and its full of bubbles underneath it even though I followed the instructions to the letter .. grrr
How often do you get an email saying:
Gov Schwarzenegger has requested to follow you on Twitter!
I should keep that one
Use a credit card to push the bubbles out to the edges
Ask him if he makes a cameo in Terminator Salvation!
I'll give it a try .. but its the edges that are the problem, .. ditched the first one for the same reason and if I dont get this one to stick properly I'll do without
:)
Or, try something a bit harder but not too sharp. like the edge of a ruler
I think I have OCD .. the bubbles are getting to me
I think I have it sorted, put back in its case and hey presto I have an inch long mega bubble up the side
:(
For those regarding my super season grid, the averages are worked out from a driver's fastest lap time over the entire weekend, so that is counting their fastest lap from practice should they have had troubles in qualifying. Sure, it's not a perfect comparison against some drivers, but it's the only way to be fair.
