Hey guys, after subbing in yesterday it’s time for my proper Daily today.  And how are we all?  Have you ever felt like writing a Daily Post for Sidepodcast?  You have?  Well you are in luck, because some spaces have opened up.  Why not check out this post, which should tell you all that you need to know…

My, the Turkish Grand Prix was a corker wasn’t it?  There was loads of overtaking, with many conclusions to be made… Some might say that it’s F1 – but not as we know it!  There was plenty of things worth drawing a picture about and with drivers like Kobayashi starting in last place and finishing tenth, some drivers think it is the end of qualifying

Michael Schumacher had a poor race, which he didn’t enjoy very much.  There have been some people in the paddock pondering about his future in the sport, but he does have the full support of the Mercedes board.  Which means if he was a football manager he’d be a week away from getting the sack…

Nico Rosberg has been up to lots this week, showing RTL how his seating position looks in his car, starting a video blog and earning himself and his team lots of points in Christine’s Rankings this week.

Apparently Robert is getting better.  Yay!  I’ll bet Eric thinks he is the Pineapple of F1 drivers, eh?  Speaking of finding the Pineapple of drivers, Crofty has been hooning around Brands Hatch helping find a winner in the GT5 Academy.  Apparently he was 4th out of 9 media guys – well done mate!

It’s also time for the final of another F1 talent search – the WTF1’s Got Talent final.  Honestly, how could you not vote for Eddie there?

Also looking for talent is screenwriter Peter Morgan, who wants to make a film about Niki Lauda and the 1976 F1 season.  Oh yes please!  Although, I think make-up in the film industry is a lot more realistic these days Niki…

How about another glimpse at the old days – in the comments someone linked to an old Kart race in Paris at the end of the 1993 season that I remember watching as a kid – the battle between Senna and Prost is so good!

A few more links to finish off…

Leigh has been writing about GP3, which looked like it has some crazy carnage in their races.  The cars still sound awful though!

Here’s a funny cartoon about Portaloos – I’m not sure I want to know how they work, mind you…

Springfield Punx drew the Silence, which looks just as creepy as they did on TV.

Dale Jr. got to play iRacing on the world’s largest TV screen – lucky so and so!

Finally Microsoft have bought Skype – quite whether this is a good or a bad thing I don’t know, but I do hope it doesn’t mean more bloatware!

That’s all from me – I will be in a seminar the next couple of days so I’ll only be able to check in during the evenings.  Have fun and see you in the comments!

Not sure.. do you have to scan in a signature and insert it somewhere in the file?

    no.

I assume so, but I don't have a scanned copy of my signature....but there's an app for that, apparently...

    Does your printer scan also?

    no.

So you have no access to a scanner, for either driving licence or a blankness paper with a signature.

Take a photo, upload to Mac. Use the Grab application in Utilities folder [within Applications] and attach?

I loved the Senna-Prost karting. The end of season Bercy event wasalways fabulous but that year the build up was incredible because Prost and Senna were going to race each other.

Senna is in a white kart by the way because it was an Elf sponsored event and he was sponsored by Shell I think.

Rubens is not at all happy about the Monaco DRS situation

I know this is being simplistic but if the drivers feel it is not safe to use DRS in practice or quali, in the tunnel for example, then how about they use it with caution

Easier said than done, I know

They are racing drivers. Simple as that.

The trouble is one driver may be sensible but another may take a stupid risk and cause an accident. I thought the DRS zone was the 'straight' at the start/finish line

So d'Ambrosio may be out of Virgin soon...?

ya know... with all the passing and craziness because of the tires and DRS, I don't think I've heard thing one about Virgin during the races this year. Only reason I ever heard anything about HRT was because of the 107% rule.

Turkey was so nuts I didn't even know that Kobayashi had a puncture!

He's not been doing badly, but there are rumoured sponsor non-payments. Robert Wickens is being lined-up as a replacement - apparently

ahh, so that's why I'm hearing all this talk of a Canadian back in F1. Was wondering where it came from. I'd rather have an American back in F1, of course, but Canada is our little hat so it's pretty close. ;)

    a lot of scalextric pieces?

By golly, I think I've got it.

They'll unknowingly knock down the Olympic buildings and then wipe any record of them from history and announce "hey, we have all this spare rubble and rock - enough to build a circuit" and then they'll finance the race by selling Germany.

    Ta-daaaaa.

Oh don't copy the smug and superior Apple-style marketing.

"Hey look, we've got this thing, nobody has thought of it before and it is really easy to use and I'm going to demonstrate it by being unbelievably patronising as if you are a simpleton."

I can kind of see that it would be good for a work laptop, keep everything 'in the cloud' for visiting clients/customers and so forth. I just can't see it for personal use.

am pretty sure ubuntu tried to sell the netbook using the same sales pitch. it's now gathering dust in a cupboard.

i'd guess most people who don't need a whole computer will use an ipad. where's the advantage of a chromebook over a tablet?

Also, Google dont really sell your data like facebook do (yet at least) I cant target anyone demographically in adwords, just by keyword.

the personal data may be used to serve the ads (&search results) which perfom best with your age group/gender. I'm not sure about that though.

I think they have been outwitted by the internet circa 1999 and are kicking up a fuss.

They should really watermark their images, if they are that worried

  • Nick11/05/2011 at 20:24

F1.com using Sutton images without credit

  • Christine11/05/2011 at 20:24

F1.com using Sutton images without credit

No, it's that Scarbs linked to the direct image rather than the f1.com page. Sutton says that is reproducing or using the content without their or f1.com's permission.

  • Maverick11/05/2011 at 20:25

F1.com using Sutton images without credit

isn't it scarbs using sutton images without credit - by linking direct to the image in a tweet rather than the f1.com page it is on?

scarbs linked to the image on suttons site if possible.

i think having to buy an image you just want to link to is taking things quite a long way

    Ah. Very confusing.

  • Nick11/05/2011 at 20:37

I guess it depends on how you define his benefit vs other parties, and if a url can be considered credit. and who deserves the credit (f1.com/sutton/LRGP)

Quite a grey area, in hindsight probably best not to do it. although i have been guilty of doing it myself with random google image search results in the past

  • Christine11/05/2011 at 20:38

    Ah. Very confusing.

I guess it's kind of like going to an art gallery. You're not blatantly ripping off an image and displaying it right outside the door, but you are letting people in the back gate for free.

Maybe. I'm not good at analogies.

  • Maverick11/05/2011 at 20:38

I guess it depends on how you define his benefit vs other parties, and if a url can be considered credit. and who deserves the credit (f1.com/sutton/LRGP)

f1.com who have paid for it are losing the benefit though as the traffic doesn't come through their page

  • Nick11/05/2011 at 20:39

You can stop people linking to an image on a website altogether though.

you can make it difficult, not sure about impossible. f1.com seems to ban rightclicking

    #MinorTrekkie

  • Alianora La Canta11/05/2011 at 21:58

No, it's that Scarbs linked to the direct image rather than the f1.com page. Sutton says that is reproducing or using the content without their or f1.com's permission.

How so? Assuming it's possible to see the pictures, hotlinking an image is exactly the same from the computer's perspective as loading the same image if clicked on in the gallery. On that logic, if hotlinking is barred on the "use without permission", so is clicking on the images in the gallery (looking at the gallery itself would be fine).

If F1.com had specifically banned hotlinking like I believe pitpass.com once did, that would be another matter.

Talking of a crazy world, I couldn't ignore the utterly, utterly ridiculous idea of Greece building an F1 circuit...

Countries less likely to host a GP in the next 3 years... Afghanistan, Iraq, Rwanda... I think that's it

    Any country in Africa, Antarctica...

(but there's still no way Greece is in the top 20 which it would need to be to get on the calender).

I'd put a quite a few African countries ahead of Greece - at least you could sell an African GP to Bernie, he doesn't need another European one and that's got to affect the commercial reality of the project
