Ken: And you join us now on the 11th, here at the Sepang Open in Malaysia, with Sebastian Vettel on 25 under par, streaks clear ahead of the rest of the field. Steps up now, 190 yards from the pin... and that is hit nicely, soundly down the hole and lands perfectly inches away from the hole. A fantastic drive from the young German.
Andrew: This is Lukeh now on the 18th, solid round so far, probably a B standard for sure, he's reviewing up his option and goes for it. Nice strike.
Wayne: 235 yards here for Gavin, million pound boy of golf, looking stylish here, but knows how to read the lie...
Ken: Back down to the 7th for Vitaly Petrov here, having a decent go so far.... ohh no, thats wide, very, very wide, flying wide almost, woah, did not expect to see that, hits the rough, gets a vicious bounce across the fairway and lands in some pretty deep grass.
Wayne: Hit 150 at least.
Ken: Sure did.
Wayne: Back to Gavin and thats a high shot, top of the charts and gets a good layup on this par 5.
Andrew: So lets look at the leaderboard, well, literally everyone seems to be winning.
Ken: News reaching us from the rival organisation, the IndyCar Tour, seems that Will Power has edged out Scott Dixon in a playoff hole. The two clear of the rest of the pack in a challenging course at the fairly new TPC Alabama, have you tried it out Wayne?
Wayne: No I can't say I have, very difficult to make an impact on the leaderboard certainly.
Ken: Hello, hello, what have we got here then...
Damn... just clocked the IndyCar result.
#Self-inducedFacePalm
Speedway is not better than MLB
Oooh new day.
woah, did not expect to see that, hits the rough, gets a vicious bounce across the fairway and lands in some pretty deep grass.
hehe, what a great description of the jump :)
Is that Petrov or Golf?
Both surely
Melbourne is cold :(
Compad to KL, yes. I bet it is
Are you home already?
That was quick
just reading gp+
jerome's issue was that he switched off the engine?
Oops?
Was that the preventative one?
I guess turning it off and on again didnt work
seems like he hit a bump and knocked the off-switch.
Doh!
That shouldn't be so easy
perhaps it;s like one of those on off switches under RC cars or something :)
Cor and I thought that never failed!
Like the Hispania on Saturday
missed that, what happened?
One of them hit a bump and the car died.
I'm sure it did. I feel like that's not right but I'm sure I saw someone do that.
That happened a few times last year too
ah-ha.
didn't know this about EJ:
EJ was adamant that the deal was water-tight and solid, only for someone to point out that while he had indeed secured Schuey’s services almost until the end of time, he had neglected to specify what those services were. Race driving? Road sweeping? The ‘contract’ didn’t say. Case dismissed. - Mike Doodson
Liuzzi - twice. Once in Malaysia and once in Melbourne
Hahaa
I remember that there was a fuss, didn't now the details
The fuss went on for a decade
The fuss was made worse when '98 Michael publicly advised Ralf to get out of Jordan
Should've been the other way arround
Ironically enough, Michael said because of the team orders Jordan issued in Belgium '98........
That is not my understanding. I understood that Willi Weber changed one word in the contract which meant it could be read in two different ways one of which meant Schumacher could walk. I am sure that is the version in EJ's book
He went and had a huge fight with EJ that day. He told EJ that it was wrong to use team orders. He really had no concept of how ridiculous that was coming from him
Well, that says it all

yes home already. Plan is breakfast, shower, get into bed and catch up on bbc coverage, probably fall asleep while doing so.
By the way, how did you find the Fan Vision coverage during the race?
I'm off to bed, goodnight all and good luck & welcome home Amy [and Pamela]
night bassano
Good night
I have and they are all incredibly good.and with thousands of interesting comments. It is unbelievable that one site can have so many interesting, intelligent people
I'm going to disappear too folks
Night
It's nearly 1am here so how can you be going to bed?
That didn't seem to take long.
Night Bassano
and Leigh
They built it, people came.
An independent biography of Eddie Jordan corroborates the version of the story EJ told. The word was "will", which became "may"...
Night Leigh
because i was on an 8 hour over night flight and didn't sleep a wink
hehehehe
Been there, done that, slept after. :)
fanvision coverage was great. Post coming soon :D
Makes sense
i think we built it, people came, then we moaned a lot, sulked, had a hissy fit or two and yet people stayed.
make a film out of that phil alden robinson :)
i want it in my house. they've promised (sorta).
Sidepodpeople, the happy limpets of the internet :)
hehehe
i want many (minor) things but I'll detail them in the post :D
Any news if Petrov requested a Mulligen for the 7th ? :P
Yankees against the Red Sox starting in ten minutes. Derek Jeter #2 batting second. Nothing to do with his number
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/59358/1/watch-new-york-yankees-vs-boston-red-sox.html
i like the idea of being a limpet. i have no idea what one is though.
how is he still number #2 btw? i have this tee for about 7 years.
phew. I thought it was yet another UK thing I didn't get. :)
Little shelfish that hangs on like a limpet. Also a type of mine that is attached to a ship below the water line
They tend to keep their numbers for they whole career
ahh
I'd rather be thought of as a little shellfish (or a little selfish? :( ) than a mine!
Surely mine suggests selfish.
hehehe
A mine, not 'mine'.
first thoughts on baseball. all the clothes look really comfy.
You need to be selfish to use 'a mine'??
Kai 11/04/2011 at 00:53:02I have and they are all incredibly good.and with thousands of interesting comments. It is unbelievable that one site can have so many interesting, intelligent people
They built it, people came.
...And Kai pulls a FOUL ball to left for strike one ! :P
Interesting thought
Just think, Steven, maybe someday we'll be able to watch football again Sunday nights if the owners and players can make a deal.
I've been practicing. :)
I meant to say, you can also get some games through ESPN America on Sky and maybe other things, but you have to pay.
oh, I'm lost now. You're too smart for me.
It would be nice. I wish they had a sensible season instead of just 16 games
A limpet is a sea snail that is very difficult to remove from surfaces.
:D
Would you believe there's such a thing as a limpet mine?
Bit stubborn? Sounds like Mr C.
he did. i checked on christine's blog.
#win
I already said that
WHA?
♥
Sorry, I didn't see your comment until I posted mine
#shouldcheckpendingmoreoften
The comments come in so fast that you can't read them all
I need two screens to watch baseball now
I'd better go to bed or else I'll sleep through the interview in the afternoon...
Good night and good luck
More movie talk?
Good night Alia
good luck.
That one flew straight over my head
I've been practicing.
At Fenway Park ? Then golf swing to go over the Monster....
That's a lot of height to get on a golf shot at that distance
"Good Night and Good Luck" with George Clooney.
Here's some info on the NFL stuff happening. I haven't been following it, though.

Sorry, the pitcher is a little wild with his control. He;s not headhunting. Please do not storm the mound ....
Can't beat a bunch of millionaires arguing with a bunch of billionaires
Nicely put.
That's why I don't care how it goes, just whether they're going to play this year or not. And I assume they will, that's how they got the millions and billions.
Just like F1. When the green light goes out they will race
It's going to be 78F/25C tomorrow??
Wow, that affects clothing choice in a big way...
No need for snow shoes
Not tomorrow, anyway. :)
Stick them in the car for the return journey just in case
good idea
Best head to bed despite not really wanting to, pesky work. :)
I know the feeling. Sleep well.
Yankees had a lucky escape in the first. Sox had two men on and nearly hit a single.
I missed yesterday's game but the Sox were 1 for 17 (yes 17) with runners in scoring position. Unsurprisingly they lost.
Night Pat
ahhhh bed
You made to bed after being up for so long and you are commenting from it?
Of course she is. We wouldn't have it any other way. :)
of course :D
Kate says on her picture
"Thankyou so much! with all these REAL people voting, we have to be the winners :-) keep this an honest competition please guys, otherwise it's just not fair x"
what is she implying? I haven't seen any signs that anyone is cheating?
Brundle:
MBrundleF1 Martin Brundle
Ferrari + Alonso raised the Hamilton blocking issue and subsequent penalty post race which is why we didn't hear about it before the flag.
The F1 Stewards, who vary race by race, are going to have to be very clear, consistent, and fair on what is considered one defensive move.
I guess she is trying to spin something. I haven't noticed who is voting for anyone else.
:D
oooooh damn. in debrief we say "nobody raised it, what was the issue".
oops.
Why does Alonso care about Massa?
shes the one thats gotten 100 likes in the last 24 hours, nothing else looks weird to me!
Just claim that Nobody is Anandos new nickname and thats what you meant all along.
Absolutely right. Trouble was today they were not consistent over one race. There should only be one steward and he should do all the races. Solves the problem
I had no idea
Maybe denying to hide something
massa? hamilton was blocking alonso wasn't he?
Allegedly
The guy who won the trip to the Melbourne GP has posted his blog which has a photo captioned "Me with Keikki"
*sigh*
Oh. Ha. I watched the race. Honest.
:(
hehe. it was right before alonso smashed into him.
Can you prove that? Is there any evidence?
These people should just step aside, I mean, really.
shouldn't alonso have complained at the time, not after the race? either he saw the weaving or he didn't, he was 0.000 seconds behind him.
Really not! Ask me any question and I would fail :)
who's on first?
hehehe! 0.000 seconds behind him... that's when his wing got bitten, right?
She even said she is not a fan. Melbourne was her first exposure to F1
I did wonder if trying to sell yourself as an F1 fan by starting off with "I thought working at the F1 would suck" or something along those lines was the wrong way to go about it. Seems to have worked for her though :D
No-one the inning just ended. Had you asked a minute ago I could have answered
sounds like a guilty comment then?
♥
I can't imagine why you would think working in F1 would suck. Of all the sucky jobs, F1 is not up there.
It will be interesting to see how Air Asia decide.
Have you thought of posting links to some of your F1 stuff in the comments? Like the competition and two tours
I think she was selling programmes, that'd be pretty sucky.
I would love to know why she would think that. I would also love to know why someone who wants to be an uber fan would say that
Oh yea. Or checking tickets or something. Fair enough then :)
I thought about it but I didn't want to come across too 'well she's already had pretty awesome access so she doesn't need any more'
I tried to twitpic a photo of my air asia plane but the stupid internet on my phone wouldn't send it before all electronic devices had to be turned off :(
But why is F1 worse than doing that for anything else? Was she not working for a newspaper?
either her or Laura commented to say something about having a great time in Seoul. I think they might be quite disappointed by a love motel in Mokpo :D
Send it now
I'll go hunt down my phone. Battery died :)
I am not enjoying the baseball tonight. Yankees need to improve rapidly or they are going to be in trouble.
Following today's discussion on how penalties should be applied in sport. Baseball believes in the real time mass debate version
in what sense?
The umpire makes a decision and assorted players and coaches run at him, all talking at the same time and after the discussion he usually doesn't change the decision. People in baseball seem to like arguing. Managers and coaches just stroll on the field when they feel like it to talk to their players or argue with the umpires. Sometimes the stroll is an aggressive sprint
hehehe, understood.
more from gp+ (am loving this weeks edition):
After watching the Red Bull on television on Friday, BBC’s Martin Brundle was moved to comment privately: “I had a good look at the Red Bull front wing in action just now, and it’s not moving, there’s no movement at all in it. But just look at the amount of rake of that car. The whole thing is just a flying wing!”
We had still pictures of theRedBull and the McLaren at the same spot on the track in Melbourne and the Red Bull wing was lower
from reading the mag, brawn agrees red bull are running a steeper rake, but he thinks the mclaren is fast enough to prove that it isn't necessary for everyone else to do the same.
Red Bull are definitely running more rake. I agree it is not necessary for everyone to do the same.
this says everything you need know about mallya in one tiny sentence:
Tata, which is now the owner of the Jaguar car company, and which wanted to make sure that there was an Indian driver on the grid for the first F1 Indian Grand Prix but did not want to be involved with Force India...
this is my favourite gp+ for ages. good knowledge.
Quite incredible.
interesting also that TATA didn't go for karun, who's not tied to FIF1 either.
I guess that Lotus are already associated with that team and they could be seen as a rival to Jaguar. But with the money they have they could have placed him at Williams or some other midfield team.
also from gp+ hispania used http://www.box.net/ to put together their car.
they are the most media|future|change team out there.
Interesting. I see Virgin media's logo on that page
Time for bed.
Baseball is not going according to plan but there is a long way to go
Night Mr C and anyone else who is lurking.
Go to sleep Amy
zzzz :D
Night night
what? christine is about to release debrief :)
I stayed up later than Steven!!
Get in.
:D
good lord.
That's amazing.
It is unlikely to ever happen again :)
She used to sleep at sensible times. We have corrupted her
:D
And I am here to witness this occasion! *bows*
You never know. I may start going to bed at 10pm
steven, there's a piece about chaparell and carbon fibre in gp+ you may like too.
I am really going this time

Morning. Thanks for the link RG!
I want someone to come home so I can hurry up and go see my brother.
This will teach me to not take my keys to Malaysia :D
Are you stuck outside?
no, I did luckily manage to take my mailbox key with me so I asked my flatmate to leave her keys in the mailbox this morning. Now I have to wait for her to come back so I can let her in before I can leave the house )
Can you mail them to her, or did she leave you her mailbox key too?
When do we find out the grand winner of the contest?
she left me her mailbox key too, otherwise that would have been a good system :D
supposed to be today but the working day is over so maybe tomorrow :)
I have a take out menu here which lists an arnold palmer:
half ice tea half lemonade.
Ive never had one, but really craving the concept right now!
that sounds quite tasty. My lunch at Sepang came with lemon iced tea and it was quite tasty. I don't think I'd ever even tried iced tea before.
ooh I like those!
I drink a lot of green ice tea with ice and lemon,
When i first tried it i thought it tasted like mouthwash, but really love it now
The idea of having proper lemonade with it sounds really good though, maybe even with 7up!
I am going to a buffet for dinner tonight. I want to eat myself to death :D
I did friday brunch at altlantis last weekend. it lasts 4 hours, there were 5 kitchens, 10 bar stands all with different things.
Still recovering!
sounds epic :D
I really want to go back again. They were charging only about half of what i think they could have.I dont think i could handle it soon though!
Sounds like a yummy way of doing it, (but please make sure you are around to give us a summary afterwards ;) )
morning....
Good morning!
hi ali,
how are you?
Fine, thank you. Reading through Interviewing For Dummies one last time before the afternoon gets going (I'm already packed for the occasion).
Oooohh... very best of luck
:)
ooh what are you going for?
Administration Assistant at a solicitor's call centre in Nottingham.
how is post race weekend and pre race weekend Monday treating everybody ?
Excellent. Good luck and all that.
Thought you lived far from Nottingham though?
It's treating me well. I have an interview this afternoon, followed by my last Duke of Edinburgh group (I'm being "pensioned off" due to exceeding its age limit).
Speaking of which...
PING-->
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/04/11/2011-malaysian-grand-prix-rd-2/
;)
I live just under an hour away. But it's the place offering the most jobs in my travel area (according to JobCentre rules, I cannot reject any job within an hour's travel on the basis of distance).
boo flatmate said she'd be home now but shes still 30 min away. Stupid keys!
Good - a little tired from a fab weekend - driving was scary on Friday as we had to cross the Great Belt Bridge in gale force winds which was fun!
Then Saturday we went to my niece's birthday party, where she called us the best Aunty and Gavin in the world, then asked why we weren't eating at her house for dinner :)
Then after the race on Sunday we went to my mate's house for a beer and a chat in his sunny garden. So all good!
I see. Will commuting be OK then?
Should be. There are 2 train routes to Nottingham and the tram takes me the rest of the way.
Looking back at the weekend, looks like (at least at Sepang) the only thing that separated Team Lotus from the back end of the midfield were those few KERS generated tenths ...
Very good point!
Look out in Monaco then!
Cool. I shall be visiting my Grand Parents in Nottingham in July as my parents are coming over from NZ to visit them and us...
woot
well it may be slightly more but they were only about half a second behind Maldonado in quali and Kovi finished the race right behing Alguersuari. so imagine the additional 3-4 tenths a lap KERS kick ...
Kova was also battling with Rosberg for a while too, although Rosberg was simply dire yesterday
Want to put some numbers together so we can make a post on it?
Got a press release this morning about the pitstop battles and whatnot. Didn't get a chance to look it over in much depth - seemed like a tonne of numbers
I do not really have the time to spare these days but this thought came to me after watching the Forum during my lunch today, when they bugged Newey with all the KERS questions. And when they said it worth 3-4 tenths a lap for some reason the first thing that came to mind was the gap between Lotus and those just ahead of them
Can you send it to me, see if i can make sense of it?
Question for people:
Any thoughts on Hispania's performance this weekend, especially Liuzzi?
OK. I'm interested to look into this, so if you want to collaborate I would be happy to do so.
When did Vettel get told to turn off his KERS?
Mid if I send it at lunch - am in the office at the minute
Lap 29
I was quite impressed actually. A great turnaround considering it was a flyaway race.
no probs - will DM you my email.
Seemed to be more confidence too.
Excellent - thanks for that.
Sweet
on another (Lotus) topic. this is what Joe wrote in GP+:
I am 100% positive Vettel called that black car Lotus not Renault during the press conference :-)
Done. To your Twitter account with the old racing car as the avatar.
He did call them Lotus.
Wasnt he told not to use it?
That could be different- maybe they ony intended to use it at the start or in overtaking situations and he got a bit button happy?
both Vet and Ham called them Lotus
Still not impressed, but at least they're looking vaguely competent.
advantage Bahar ...
He was - and Vettel asked to confirm the message a lap later.
I'm going to look into the laptimes to see what difference no KERS made to him.
Which teams DON'T run KERS? HRT, Virgin, Lotus and anyone else?
Just those three, as a general rule.
Thanks :)
frankly I have no idea how these guys do what they do ... one can only have respect for the people working at the team. in terms of performance they are no worse than Minardi used to be ... Minardi was everybody's darling, Hispania is sort of everybody's laugh ...
Red Bull :-)
Minardi were seen as the last of the end of an era...
I heard something interesting about him being in town trying to raise funding recently. Not sure how serious/successful it was though.
maybe he was just trying to sell cars, they dont have any dealers here yet.
Hispania might have been able to be the new Minardi if Adrian Campos had still been in charge. When Colin Kolles came in, it was like the Minardi sale to Red Bull minus the money.
The only reason why there is a team is because Kolles came in and Adrian Campos is no longer in charge ...
Kolles isn't the owner surely - it's Carabante. Kolles just keeps the team from collapsing, surely?
Also, Minardi never looked quite as farcical as Hispania - to the best of my knowledge, they never had to build up a car for the second driver on qualifying day, didn't talk rubbish about driver changes and generally seemed to be in it for enjoyment and not as a stressed-out chore between DTM and LMS assignments...
there is very interesting piece on Hispania in the latest GP+ . Not trying to sell the mag here, just saying the article is inteesting
This is true, and one could argue the same applied with Minardi and Toro Rosso. Doesn't keep the charm in though - and the charm issue is the main thing separating Hispania from Minardi in terms of regard.
He strikes me as being a bit of a big spender, but not really a budget constructor. Which is odd as he doesnt seem to have masses of cash & hangs around teams he wants to build up
Minardi had history, Hispania has none - that is separating them at the moment. not much else though ...
finally on my way to meet brother, only 30 minutes late :) i wonder if he has my present :D
We don't see Carabante, he just (supposedly) provides the cash. Kolles is master and commander of the project. A very practical and organised guy, but he'll never be a charismatic one (yes, I do realise the first two traits are much more important than the latter, but to be regarded well by fans, some charisma in the place is helpful).
Already subscribed
;)
He's always struck me as the exact opposite - someone that keeps teams afloat, preparing for ownership transfer, when the real owners were tightfisted
He is a dentist, who likes dentists ? :-)
Carabante is at virtually every race
I've never seen him at one. Thank you for telling me because otherwise I'd never have known...
He's quite a young guy with more money than sense
Well not that young, but he's not a Branson type
... his team has about the same pace as Branson's (well almost) ...
Good golly, how long before Branson finally jumps?
There is a pic of him on Facebook - looks a lot younger than I expected?
Who knows?
And is it worse to restrict yourself to a budget cap knowing you are massively behind, or to fight for every last scrap and look foolish along the way?
another thought that came to my mind is that of the Brackley team. Looks like again after a freaky competitive season (2009 as Brawn) they are back to where they always belonged as Honda (except the freaky season 2004) ...
You know how Mr C once injured himself swatting a fly? Keith at F1 Fanatic may sympathise with him as he's just broken a window doing something similar...
I think he may have had some... ehhhh... work
;)
Everyone else is on the same budget cap next year, supposedly.
I think yesterday's Mercedes showing was amplified somewhat by Rosberg just being... bad. Schuey well and truly beat him yesterday
their car looks to hopeless though. last year they were unhappy but they were at least regular top 8 to 10 with Rosberg often in top 5 while Schumacher was learning how to drive a car that has colour other than red. this year they were to make a step forward resulting in barely getting into top 10 ... sounds so Honda familiar ...
I would just love to be a fly in the wall in that factory, just to see where it's all going wrong.
nothing is right, there is simply the 5 years waiting time before the next good car comes out of Brackley. no matter what they do they have to wait till 2014 :-)
At which point Nico might finally win a race...
he may win a bit earlier but only under the condition that it rains in Hungary on race days. but that is occurrence even rarer than good car coming out of Brackley :-)
:D
Going back to the BAR days, that factory has a chequered history...
Hmmmm... Must be honest, I would rather be at home having a cuppa right now
has anybody seen this penalty kick :-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-Nv4iB0N0Y&feature=player_embedded
Joe suggesting that alonso might have been trying to puncture hamiltons tyre...
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/04/11/the-penalties-in-sepang-a-little-analysis/
Dont think he will be enjoying the pasta at ferrari hospitality in china!
& surprise surprise hamilton's penalty likely came from the moaning spaniard protesting after the race
I thought that was more like listing out all sorts of things that stewards would look into when investigating, not that it was something that Alonso actually tried to do
I just think "no", because it's seems like a far, far too risky thing to do with more than ten laps to go
No surprise there - no notification of an investigation came up during the race.
I do not want to look too smart here but I was actually wondering at the time that Hamilton penalty incident took place whether he was not weaving a bit too much ... did not pay much attention to it as no one in commentary box seemed to notice. but I was not surprised at all by the penalty afterwards.
:/
Ladytron are playing in London in June and I've no spare cash for tickets - booooooo....
The times paywall is down, if you ever wondered what you were/were'nt missing from mr eason http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/formulaone/formula-one-blog/
To be fair he does say in his comments thats not how he meant it, but thats certainly not how i read it!
I find it interesting it was there. Ferrari wont like it
I think a few people jumped to the conclusion that Hamilton was penalised because of weaving leading directly to the crash.
However in my race notes, I jotted down that on "Lap 45 - Hamilton defended very hard"
I thought he would be penalised - albeit I don't agree that he should have been.
Yet another example of Joe not fully articulating his point and having to rigourously defend it...
This bit?
The other point to consider is that Whiting did not consider the collision to have been sufficiently serious to warrant an investigation during the race, so he must therefore have looked at it again later and decided to report the incident to the Stewards. What was that he saw that led him to take action? Did he, perhaps, suspect that Alonso ran into Hamilton deliberately, hoping to cut the McLaren driver’s rear tyre and that the move backfired and he damaged his front wing?
It's just a question, isn't it?
yes, I think it is just a question, similar to EJ's talk about Hamilton brake testing Alonso without really suggesting that Hamilton actually did that
Yep, but when you write something like that, you're just baiting the trolls.
Perhaps this would have sounded better:
"Did Charlie Whiting feel that there was more to the incident than the TV cameras suggested - warranting a request to review the data?
At least Joe remembered his question, mind ;)
the show would not be the same without EJ (for better or worse) :-)
Fair call :)
EJ invented questions
He also invented amnesia ;)
fun moment for me however goes to Seb Vet when he asked if he can say "ass". and as a result the Forum is marked on iPlayer as "containing strong language" :-)
Okay, but that's different to not "fully articulating his point". I'd say your rewrite would lead to "like what, like what, what do you know" questions which is probably just as annoying as having to deal with trolls.
You could read it as a suggestion though.
Im inclined to believe Joe is experienced enough to know the reaction that would get, maybe someone in the paddock hinted at it?
I suppose. But I can't see why he would want to write that and then have to tell everyone in the comments how off the mark they are? Seems like a waste of time to me.
Probably McLaren to get back at Ferrari complaining about Hamilton weaving?
I admit I enjoyed picking on few Joe's mis steps in the recent past but frankly I see nothing wrong in this case
I think Nick is onto something though - Joe wouldn't just throw that out there without some basis of fact ... he probably doesn't have enough to say more though.
True enough.
To me, there's a difference between suggesting something happened and saying let's consider the concept of...
However you're right. Every time we speak to Joe he says he's tightening up on the comments, but each time I look over there he's telling someone to hush up :)
totally off topic but this is funny - one president stealing a pen while the other president is talking :-)

After the GP again today, I can't believe either Hamilton or alonso were penalized. Much as I hate to say it, especially Alonso. It didn't look any different to everything else going on in the race to me.
Seems like it could have been a bit of tit-for-tat moaning to me.
The Penalty on Alonso was harsh for me because he got penalised twice - he had to pit for a new wing anyway so he already lost time.
The Penalty on Hamilton seems harsh and I reckon is based on last year's weaving antics - smacks of inconsistent stewarding and heavy handedness, just like the bad old days.
brother has departed. He was disorientated so i hope he found his hotel :D
I seem to remember you saying he hadnt left new Zealand before but was going on a world tour?
Iced tea is the best! :)
Morning all.
Hey Amy - Man, that contest has gone really crazy now. Hoping the judges still see it your way, but even if they don't, it looks like the two in front of you are really going for a fight - allegations of fraud and everything.
That's the trouble of voting contests for you...
he came here for the grand Prix in 09 but other than that he has been nowhere. His girlfriend is dragging him to California in august :)
Saw a comment from Kate - I wonder who she is referring to?
She's not saying anything, but really, who's the only competition she has left? She wouldn't be fighting this hard if she was ahead of that person.
I really hope the stewards don't start buying in to that sort of thing. And I agree about Alonso.
Doesn't look like anyone is using Fake profiles to me.
California!!! :D Having lots of fun here - Disneyland was amazing!
Really?!
I'm pleased i sort of made my final push end at midnight last night, since i didn't know what time it closed today and today they've been going nuts!
Hard to say for sure as we don't really see how many friends each person who liked has. But at this point, it could just be 40 out of 400 people. It's just 10%, but it would be the difference between 1st and 2nd at the moment.
I think it's a ruse designed to create uncertainty.
i loved Disneyland Paris so I'd like to go to the Cali one one day. When do you go home?
Yep - check out the album page. The allegations are there. No one's responded to it, though.
I don't have Facebook - too old ;-)
It's a comment that Kate Tovey made twice saying that all the people voting for her are real and the others have resorted to fake profiles.
Easter. :) Flying out to our next city tomorrow. Viva Las Vegas! :D
Disneyland California has TWO parks for twice the fun! Twice as mind-blowing too. ;)
Sounds like the whole thing has gone mental. I dont think likes contests are all that great, turns the whole thing into a popularity content. It gives them attention and likes which is good for air asia, but hopefully they will look at the photos and choose the biggest fan at the end :)
Amy FTW!
Could be as well. Just as well, then, that the Air Asia people put in a judges clause so they don't need to solely rely on the likes and comments.
And any gain would be temporary. Watch the fan numbers drop once the competition ends.
Ah. Very good point. But I'm surprised they'd need contests like this for sales. Our local airports have no problems gathering up fans as seat sales are crazy events here.
*local airlines
i wonder if she saw my comment about having 301 likes and 136 friends and assumed i'd make up 170 fake profiles because god forbid strangers be nice
Could be, but why complain about when you're so far behind? That wouldn't help her any.
I don't know. I will wait and see before I say more on this, because it's a very serious allegation to make.
ask her?
I'm not FB friends with her.
I didn't realise she'd made the accusation on the album page as well - i kind of want to respond. I didn't want to comment on her photo but on the album page is a whole nother story.
The fact that her and her friends mention making a list of all the fake profile says to me they have way too much time on their hands. Since most people have their security settings to the point where you cant see much anyway, how can they be sure?
Indeed. Most people only show a profile pic and a name to the public now.
I said "I'm not sure who you're making allegations about but I really hope you have some proof because it seems a bit unfair to throw shade on the rest of us when I know all the people who liked my picture are "REAL" too."
You should ask where all her likes came from, you can obviously prove they came from sidepodcast and another f1 podcast. Hers look more mysterious than yours!
Hmm. This is going to get nasty.
Good comment!
I hope she's not talking about that dog! That's a real dog!
when I looked just before I left my hotel she was on about 180, in a day shes gone up to almost 400. Where was all this support the other 2 weeks of competition!
:D
Lord.
They may end up choosing mystery person with 1 like.
and the dogs real owner doesn't have a profile so it still really is just one of my friends! :D
Exactly :)
I know I've complained about him in the past, but this really makes me despair.
He didn't see the race, then follows it with a brief review and thoughts...
#Facepalm
http://tripleleagueracing.wordpress.com/2011/04/11/team-meeting-weekend-in-review-parade-edition/
oh wow I didn't realise Laura had gone up so much either.
They obviously didn't set an end date like I did. They obviously haven't drawn the winner yet either unless they chose someone other than us top three because both of them are still commenting.
I'll just keep crossing my fingers I get that email and I'll stay out of the nasty fighting from now on :)
You did say a push on the final day was very much possible, right? And I would agree that it is possible.
my final day push got me about 25 :D
I think making accusations is a good way of getting thrown out of a competition
That sounds like a good idea!
This is what my brother got me for my birthday, Gavin might be the only one here who understands the awesomeness :D
Very good idea, actually.
oh yes it certainly doesn't make yourself look like a good ambassador.
I'm not going to say anything for or against her, except she better have proof if it's true.
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/malaysia-2011-rate-the-race
Nope, not if they want that person to be working for them
Good point. That is a heck of a lot of likes in a short space of time! It's a bit weird because we don't really know her or the other lady that well and they haven't been taking part in the comments before or since their request for support. I hope that people don't get too silly about this though!
I'm listening to the Debrief :)
ooooooooh!
Kate has posted on their wall asking when they'll announce the winner too.
I really wanted to win but I kept my desperation to the comments and a lot of venting to Pamela in Malaysia, must..appear...professional...
water...off...duck....
Oooo. My brother got me a brawn tshirt for my bday. Awesome
now I need to buy a milkshake maker!
I LOL'd
then commented (good job i didnt rofl as typing would have been hard)
Aye, just saw that. It can be an interesting site...
Don't say anything more. Just wait in silence. There's nothing more you can do now and you don't want to get into a slanging match. Even if a direct accusation is made it may be best to just ignore it.
at this rate, they may take each other out of the running. just sit back and watch the fireworks.
Your milkshake brings all the boys to the yard? :D
Sorry, can't help it, that song's been stuck in my head for days. :D
Is that the kid who blogs?
oh definitely. I made my peace with the competition last night so I'm back to enjoying life and not stressing :)
I recently re-followed him because he plays my game, last night he missed 70% of the IndyCar then immediately set about criticising it based on last year's crap race, when last nights was action-packed and good fun..
Hmmm. I didn't see that race, but I rate it as excellent because power won.
He's the guy who we thought was too young to blog, right?
I bet the organisers are wishing they'd never bothered
heheh.I already have this shirt so now I can wear that while drinking from my new cups and I'd be 100% milkshake.
Yep - although I'm not sure he's a kid anymore.
Oh dear
I am very ready to break Skype
Grrrrrr...
:(
Good call. You've done brilliantly and you should be proud of that. I have had a few of my friends who hate F1 vote for you, so you must have done something righT!
No need - tis always broken!
ooh Air Asia are using their right to change the competition already, the original entry form at the stand said accommodation was included
the terms and conditions say its not :)
300 was sort of a quiet secret target that I knew I'd be stoked to reach anywhere near so to get there is fantastically amazing.
And now I can look forward because in 65 minutes my car insurance gets cheaper. If I had car insurance that is. Yaaay!
Is it your birthday? 25?
It keeps instating Autocharge and is charging my account, despite me constantly disabling it. I just tried to go to remove all my payment details, but as I don't have my password with me, I can't log in.
Went looking for the password reminder and the option will not show when I click the "forgotten password" button.
There's now £28.50 on my account, when I really didn't need or want to buy credit !!
:/
it is in NZ but its not here yet :D My dad sent me a text message to say he'd taken my name off his premium and is now saving $30 a year :)
gavin,
I just emailed you
:)
you have to pay to stay in a love hotel out of your own pocket?
Interesting. It's confirmed at the bottom of the page. Then again, do they really want to pay for someone's stay at a love hotel? :D
#sameperson
For anyone who has ever worried about leaving us a voicemail: http://www.thedoghousediaries.com/?p=2688
If one of the non F1 fans wins I'm sure they'll have a fantastic time :D
Ah that's great that is!
:D
Thats great Inspiration!
So you have to pay the taxes for the flight and find your own accommodation in probably the most difficult country to do so. Are you sure you want to win?
I have printed it out and stuck it on the wall.
:)
Hey all just popping through on my lunchbreak, I was watching the Indycar last night and had my eyes on the live commenting thread. Good to see people getting involved. What was the general consensus in the end? Did you like the Indycar race, any elements worth bringing over to F1?
I enjoyed it but still would rather watch an F1 race....Any idea how much slower those IRL cars are over a road course in comparison to F1 cars? There didn't seem that much difference visually.
good point!
yes :D I'm sure there'd be someone out there that can help with accommodation, TravelF1 via 5Live helped out Alex last year.
Pamela was certainly not a fan of the low cost carrier model though so I may have to drug her up to get her on the plane next time :D
But then he's a proper F1 fan. Would a not-quite-fan appreciate the whole experience?
I believe you're supposed to put something in her milk
oh lord no, not when they think they're going to be partying it up in Seoul
:D LCCs are perfectly fine! Nothing wrong with them. :)
she not gettin' on no low cost carrier plane ya fool?
They're a million miles away from any other form of civilization, never mind Seoul.
when she normally travels Emirates I think it was quite a shock to the system to have to pay for everything
#sameperson
I don't get to watch until tonight, but I've been a big fan of it for a long, long time. I don't think either need to format their ideas as yet - F1 and IndyCar are good individual series'.
and that is one reason I'd be fine with not winning. Because I enjoy the chance to laugh at others misery.
tsk tsk. don't be mean now. :P not like you'll see their misery online anyway.
How long is the flight?
8 hours
Thanks Leigh - looks interesting, I'll check it out later.
I'm guessing 6-ish hours?
Cool...I thought it was a good race....my first Indycar experience :-)
Wow, even longer.
they have to tweet don't they?
that is true, but I could just picture it in my head :)
but enough about that, I have photos to sort out and post!
yes, but they obviously won't be tweeting their misery, right?
ah it was 8 Melbourne to KL. If we're talking to Seoul I have no idea how long the route there from KL is.
I doubt Lotus will let them tweet about how much everything sucks
Another mini Franck post: http://heartfranck.wordpress.com/2011/04/11/peace-and-quiet-for-now/
It's hard blogging about an almost non-existant person.
if i was miserable and someone gave me access to twitter...
My biggest mistake.
he's more anonymous than i am.
You can relive pamela by telling her that emirates dont fly melbourne to seoul, unless she wants to transit in dubai :)
hehehehehe!
:D
she loves Dubai airport!
Google says: 10 hours 45 minutes
Wow, it's practically a trans-Pacific flight.
It is quite nic....*ahem* The bit outside is better!
Oh it stopped snowing. Have to go outside. See you later (hopefully)
everywhere is a long way away from here :)
Apart from NZ. They should have a race.
LOST
Sweet. You may like the races at Toronto and Brazil then. Also, Indianapolis is quite special.
:)
:D
Big improvement over the same event last year, drivers still need to get used to 2-wide restarts. Struggled to keep up with strategies as I wasn't using live timing.
I enjoy both equally. The track is narrower and the top speeds are similar but they can be as much as 10-15 seconds slower (estimated). I think the direct comparison between F1 and Champ Car at Montreal was ~12sec.
Do they ever run on Indy using the infield...I'm quite curious to know the speed difference between them and F1...
Must confess to a little chuckle that Sato is racing in IRL....I'm quite into ALMS so was good to see some of those drivers in IRL
No, just the oval, although an infield race has muted, there doesn't seem to be any drive to make it happen.
The ovals speeds are much higher, an F1 car couldn't lap Indy at max power without detonating, not so likely now with the rev limits of course
"..for an extended period of time"
I meant to say
Although, it'd be fun to see someone try to beat de Ferran's record at Fontana in an F1 car - that would be special
:)
I'd LOVE to see some F1 cars racing round Road Atlanta or Road America....I'm totally addicted to those tracks after endless hours on Forza 3...
Sorry if already discussed but i'm just reading up that McLaren gave Hamilton the wrong tires yesterday...wrong order and some mismatched set...ouch! No wonder he was upset after. I thought in the post race interview he looked very shaken...almost scared.
However, in pure fantasy land, an F1 car at the old Avus circuit or the original Hockenheim would be equally epic
Hadn't heard that, must have felt odd
Maybe they have another twitter a/c
I've done that on rFactor - scary fast
Try knocking the rear wing off and doing Bonneville - I can get up to 380 kph in a 1985 Turbo Brabham
385 in a Group C car too. Should try a 1995 Indycar...
heres a picture I tried to twitpic at the time,
Exotic Sidepodcast listening :D
http://amyfulton.posterous.com/exotic-sidepodcast-listening-malaysia-edition
A 99/2000 CART car would be mental - they just got stupidly fast after a while
Think there is a 1998 CART Mod out there...
I've played - in real life, I would have been dangerous. Real kudos to the folks that drove them
Kate commented on my photo
"good race Amy! any comments you read and interpreted were definitely not aimed at you, if anything I was defending all of us hard workers, especially you because you did do such a fantastic job :-) anyway good luck"
Ah excellent stuff. Let's wait and see what happens now then :)
Thats nice to hear :)
Interlagos are going to add run off on the last corner http://www.supersport.com/motorsport/formula1/news/110411/Interlagos_to_change_after_drivers_death
I took waaay too many photos of Ted because I was trying to get the perfect shot of him talking with his hands :D
good stuff
Ted is Ricky Bobby?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqhkdHlCHLk
hehe welcome to my world.. tis a good job photography has gone digital...
bingo. As Pamela said 'he even stutters with his hands' because he has a specific gesture he does at those times.
When he's really getting excited about what hes saying he does this weird bendy knee squat thing like a singer hitting a high note :D
Ace
:)
heheh Kate has deleted all her comments about fakes now but the ones replying to it are still there so don't make sense :D
Delete your comment too.
my friend just posted "I kinda wish Amy Fulton could win the uber fan zone comp thing because she's the most dedicated f1 fan I know... She just doesnt have enough friends =p lololol"
she's always having me on about my small social circle :D
done
hehehehe!
she added to it "She doesn't enough friends coz she's always watching f1 btw... Cars r her friends"
I've only turned down one invite this weekend because of F1, just one!
We are starting to get to the time of year when people start inviting people to stuff on Grand Prix weekends..
its only an issue in this timezone for so few races which is nice, but that wedding I have to be a bridesmaid at during Japanese qualifying is not so good!
Luckily i am at work on race days and most people have the comon sense to schedule meetings when the grand prix isn't on. I almost had to move one meetings location to "in front of the tv"
..luckily they decided to reshedule :)
Good to hear! :)
phew, photos all sorted I am left with 123 to upload :)
Facebook first because its faster, Flickr later.
I cut my FB pics down to 800x600 and upload them in full on Flickr.
Last paperwork for my track passes has been sent off
:)
bingo :D
I think I've upset someone in Malaysia with my tweets.
"after reading ur good tweets abt malaysia.. Sad to see u diss malaysia in the end."
Nick / Gavin
I think I'm coming to the conclusion that Dylan just doesn't like motorsports at all judging by his responses to me
just what is facebook seeing behind Liuzzi that I'm not?
http://amyfulton.posterous.com/ummmm
ooh I worked out why Nick had no flag next to his name, I see in a photo I took earlier that day that originally they had a Polish one up there :)
right, photos are up

you had such good seats!!!!!! why doesn't everyone go to malaysia!
#WRC
ooh new Mini
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13270708
the trip back to the hotel :(
What they need to do is build some hotels in the giant green area around the track.
I learned last night that the other half of the teams were in the Pan Pacific at the airport which is a lot closer than our hotel was, but you still get stuck in the giant traffic jam getting there because the only people who don't turn right when they leave the circuit are the ones going to the Low Cost terminal. The other 100,000 people all go the same way.
nice
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13270707
Will have a good look when I'm home in a little over half an hour :)
Also #WRC... oh dear
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90629
The cars have been air-freighted to Jordan, but everything else (recce cars, jacks, service park equipment) is stuck on a boat which has had a partial engine failure in the Med.. expected ETA tomorrow rather than yesterday.
woahhh!!!
This rally has had so many obstacles in the last few weeks and it hasn't even started yet
Friday was fine, Saturday was awful, Sunday was apparently 10 times worse so I'm glad I wasn't in it :D
Even though they have trains from the airport, just getting to the airport is hard because they all leave from the main terminal, not the low cost one. If they had an internal road from the low cost to the main it'd be perfect but to go between them you have to use the jam packed public road.
did i read joe right, when he suggested the circuit is in cahoots with taxi drivers to profiteer from fans? if so, nice track!
ohh goodness.. hopefully they'll have that all sorted when i go... in 2014.... maybe..
Yeesh. How can you not link terminals?
Probably put together by Simon Gillett
haha probably, taxi to the track from our hotel was 120 ringgit, to the airport which was further away was 90.
i think he said they canned the old bus services or something. will ask about it on the next show.
:D
I think it was Madrid where I had to go on public roads to get to the easyjet terminal, but that was OK because there wasn't hundreds of thousands of race fans thrown into the mix :D It probably works for them the other 360 days of the year. Apparently plans are in place for a train between the two though.
there were lots of shuttle buses but they got stuck in the same jam. Lots of hotels had shuttles for their guests too but ours didn't.
It was really hard to tell which were official buses and official taxis because nothing was signposted and even the official drivers would kind of stand in the middle of the road and go 'pssst you want a taxi?' as you walked past just like the dodgy ones did. They give you so many warnings about the rogue taxis but it was impossible to tell them apart.
It made me crave Singapore and being able to walk to the track so much.
Pingle: http://sidepodcast.com/post/wiki-highlights-words-and-music
best place for a race :)
it may cost 8x as much as its neighbour but at least the men don't stare and wolf whistle at you *cry*
right, 2am and have to go back to stupid work in 7 hours so bedtime it is.
I would just like to also wish a happy birthday to Flavio and Brian McFadden before I go :D
wait.. wait.. is it tomorrow with you yet?.. Happy Birthday!!
Right folks,
I'm off.
Might be back later
:)
Goodnight and happy birthday :)
Great photos!
I never realised there was such a gap between the first and second part of the chicane section
Wow, now I'm on FB I've found a pic from Dave, the Aussie guy who's a marshal at Singapore. Not spoken to him in a while. But.. he was in the same stand.
Today's interview could perhaps have gone slightly better. Had it happened as scheduled, it would have been a start...
Hi friends - just doing a quick in-and-out right now.
J'ai une petite question, as I'm still a sidepodcast neophyte. I was pleasantly surprised to see the thread following the recent Indycar race. Is that a regular feature of sidepodcast? or just occasional, or was it the first time.
I believe it's occasional but not unprecedented.
We started following the races last year. If there are enough people around there will be a thread and if there are only a couple it will be discussed in the daily. I suspect there will be threads for most if not all races this season
Got it! Have a fun day. :-)
Hiiiii :)
Heloo
Hello!
I'm soooo sleepy :D I was going to ask if the race was worth a watch but I started watching and the start is crazy!
Definitely worth watching
So I see! Blimey!?
Are you planning on live commenting?
Hehehe I have no idea what's happening.... I had to open the live thread :P
Hang on the race was yesterday morning. Why are you only seeing it now?
You know the answer surely.... work!! I was so knackered last night when I got home that I ended up just talking to Nick and falling asleep so now it is.
#Nick'sfault
Hehehe harsh!!
#blamesteven
wha??
Woah Webber has a death wish. He actually hit tyres with Kobayashi!?!
Awww did Amy not get to go to Korea? :(
Not decided yet. It is not done just on the number of likes
Okay :) Good luck Amy!!!

Oh FFS Mclaren!?! Pit for drys as it starts to rain...?
:D
Woah sweet move Fernando
What did he do?
Button
OK
How are these cars all so close together?? They're normally hardly on the lead lap after about 6th place :P
Webber's on plan A but Vettel's allowed to go on Plan B #conspiracy
You would have thought Vettel would get A
Maybe they named it like that to make Webber feel better :D
today is a great day. adobe offering software as a subscription service has made the previously unaffordable, affordable.
http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/cssubscription.html
we can do great things for just £50!
:D
I'm confused. So confused.... I need timing?!
Take note Alonso: It is possible to overtake Petrov #Lewisisbetterthanyou
fbfb?
I haven't seen the result. A bit scared of exploring the site too much as it's actually exciting!! :D I'll have a look. I found the live thread. Hehehe it's just full of comments about people being confused :P
ahh tricky.
There was lots of confusion
although you should maybe shut realtime. i had no idea you didn't know the result.
I'm not precious about it don't worry :)
apple are looking to make machines from carbon fibre: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/11/apple-hires-carbon-fiber-expert-kevin-kenney-to-posit-composites/
wonder if we'll have a flexible iphone one day?
Palm (I think) had flexible phones a couple of years ago.
Listened to a really interesting Bright Club podcast today with Dom Furniss a Human Computer Interaction expert at UCL. I'd never really thought about how engineers vs marketing people works in design but he makes some great points about making things useable. I wonder how flexible phones would fit into this. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.
i was merely taking the mickey out of red bull's wing, but if it's doable, that might be interesting.
Weird stupid wing
I think that anything is doable, it's just whether it's cost effective.
Booooo hiss not happy at all! Stupid race. I might turn it off :P
Keep watching
Norain norain
Loving the faux Italian accent going on at Ferrari there :D
Hmmmm I don't like this bit. Normally I give up and look at the result when it starts to go wrong :D
Which bit went wrong?
THere were lots of comments about Karthikeyan
What lap are you on?
Dodgy Hamilton pit strategy and a bungled pit stop.
45
Stick with it
WHY???? So I can watch Alonso crash into him!?!
Might as well get to the end from there.
I didn't know you were a LewHam fan.
I'm pretty fickle. I've always had quite a lot of Lewis love though. When I first watched F1 it was when he won the championship. It was very very exciting. There were tears and everything :P I don't think I ever really got over it.
I do like Vettel but he's just too good at the moment to need supporting :D
I thought you didn't know what happened in the race. There is more than that happens
Gotcha. I can barely keep up with who I like let alone other people :)
First we have heard of this
It's 100% not. I am a very emotional sports watcher. I must have been supporting Lewis last year too because I got up and went to bed after he crashed out of Singapore last year.
Also I wasn't cheating :P I saw it happen. Bash crash wallop. I refuse to believe there's no damage on his car. He's the puncture king.
Pingles: http://sidepodcast.com/post/tweets-of-the-week-you-get-what-you-deserve
Why did you make me watch this?? I thought something good was going to happen? :( :( :( Bad times.
Sweet Lord. Air Asia are sponsoring the wrong Lotus there.
So erm why did no-one want Nick Heidfeld??
fair question.
AND he got a drive through??? You just wanted me to suffer #blamesteven
You have always gone on about supporting fluffy.
THere was some minor damage to the floor/diffuser
:D
I don't like all these stops. It seems ludicrous.
Not fashionable. I have been having little rants for many years on the subject of people who hire F1 drivers wouldn't recognise a good driver if he drove over them.
Nick is not alone. How long have I been going on about di Resta. Everyone knew he was good now because he has beaten Sutil the media etc know about him. There are lots of great drivers who never got a break
Pit stops are bad
#confidentialfromMrC
You have to ask how using 3 times as many tyres as last year and having half a ton of rubber on the track helps with F1's aim to shine a green light on itself
I was actually just thinking basically this. That being green is about being durable, reliable, efficient. Forcing pit stops is mad if that's your philosophy.
Tony Blair used to go on about joined up thinking. F1 is no more capable of it than he was
Awwww I also now love Di Resta. He's such a cutie #newfluffy
Vettel is old already
*ugh-ugh-hummmm*
So my boss is in from Denver, visiting us in the Virginia office here. I go over to talk to him and he says "Hey, I got something for ya!"
It's an iPad 1! (wifi only, though, but considering it's free to me I won't complain too much)
You need rubber trees to make rubber, and since you dont need to cut them down to get the rubber:
^Rubber Demand = ^Number of Rubber Trees*
Assuming the tires are made from actual rubber and not synthetic
Nice one
Nooooo I'll happily wave the flag if he needs to fight through the field.
I like Di Resta. He's friendly and chatty.
They're synthetic
There will be little if any rubber in the tyres.
They should get a tyre manufacturer who can make rubber tyres then
Even if the outer was made of real rubber, all the gubbins inside is very wasteful to just chuck away all the time.
I don't think rubber tyres would last very long at 200 mph or 4G
Flax?
What are you talking about?
An engineering challenge then. with the end result being highly durable rubber tyres.
theres f1's green moment right there
Which
century is this you want the tyres for? How many horses pull your wagon?
I think you need to do a guest post explaining how they are going to do that
Rubber is less durable than a synthetic. Synthetic isn't always wrong.... If it's durable, that's what counts. A durable tyre will always be more environmentally sound.
I dont know, my dunlops seem to last a lot longer, dont create marbles and whilst my car does fly like petrov on occasion, they havent made the steering column brake yet!
NO FLYING!!!
I still get back pain... I swear I'm suing!
I have learned to do it better now :)
You don't brake, corner or accelerate at 4G and you don't change direction at 170mph.
NO!!!
I only use synthetic Oil in my car, 'cause it's better. But I honestly don't know how much actual Oil is in there or how it's made or what's "synthetic" about it.
Perhaps I should load up wikipedia.
I wasnt going fast enough before, the car levels out a lot better with 4 wheels off the ground
I'll walk thanks!!
Depends on the shape of the lump you take off from
Unless you're rallying, having more than one wheel leave the ground is generally frowned upon.
More FIA Cross country than rallying,
"Tracks? Where we're going we dont need tracks"
You mean when I used to do it I wasn't supposed to?
Goodnight everyone, just thought of the word 'sidepodapotamus'
hope it comes in usefull :)
Nick thinks he's Sebastian Loeb. I'm not messing though. We went over a sand bank the wrong way driving in the desert and I'm really not sure my back's ever going to be the same again.
Not his best post, for sure.
You know they have patented the idea for roll up Tv screens, right?
Sue him
They have had those for a while
yup
I'll be sure to get lots of holiday snaps with the neck brace on eh :)
For those who haven't see flexi-TV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6bkmPjVF-k
Woah very weird goings on with the Olde Comments there!?
I clicked on Steven's youtube link then pressed back to come back here and it went a bit mad scrolling but it has fixed itself :P
Self-fixing comments?
I feel a bit sea sick from looking at it though #blamesteven
Mr C's software
You posted the link!! Weird impossible screen.
He thinks he's whatshisname, Dakar Rally / WRC man from UAE. Nasser al-Attiyah?
You should get that checked.
The back not the rally stats of Al-Attiyah.
Any pain in the back that persists for more than a few days should get checked out. An ex-apprentice doctor should know that.
How do you suggest I get rid of him then? :D
Doctors are the most stubborn patients.
Next time he takes off pull his ejector seat?
The back isn't all that bad. It was definitely the car that did it though. Very hard landing compressing my poor spine. Can't really think what on earth anyone could do about it other than tell me not to do it again?
If you can still feel the difference in your back now then you should have it checked out. They could suggest physio or exercises or something. The trouble is a lot of older people who have back problems have had them since they were younger but it didn't really bother them then so they ignored it.
I would guess you posture in the car was to blame. You need to sit right if you are going to fly in a car
Buy him a VW Race Touareg, those things go over anything.
Their drivers and co-drivers are really fit and of course they have awesome seats and stuff
I have perfect posture!!! Girls spines are just shaped differently.
To give Nick a break, he is a very good offroad driver. We'd followed another car into a hollow you couldn't really get out of so we had to go over the dune the wrong way to get out. Really scary. At the time I was just happy we hadn't flipped over.
You mean he almost landed you on your head?
I've done that to myself before ;)
All I'm saying is that you'd think sand was soft and it flipping isn't!!!
Sand is the same material as glass. Not soft at all
Hehehe fine you win. I'll tell my doctor about it when I go and ask them for my begging letter for student finance.
I win again. First Hitler and now Alison
Erm what? You're making less sense than Nick now....
What even is flax?
I can't remember why but it was something to do with Leni Riefenstahl and Godwin's law yesterday
It's a crop. You get linseed oil from it
So what does that have to do with rubber tyres?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flax
Ohhh. Now a street name near where I grew up makes a lot more sense. Flaxfield Road.
I have not the slightest idea. Neither does Nick
There is definitely a clue to its origin hidden in there
am geeking out on leo live at NAB: http://www.pixelcorps.com/live
I listened to TWiT earlier and they were joking about broadcaster letting them stream a broadcaster's show
This is a good read - http://joeposnanski.si.com/2011/04/11/commentary/?eref=sihp
Why pixelcorps rather than TWiT?
don't know. leo was there but he just wandered off. i think the two are sort of becoming one though.
Interesting. He seems to be really growing his business. He has hired a lot of people recently and the new building is going to be something really special
did you see this piccy (i think it's leo's new place): http://filmcrewtech.posterous.com/studio-build-day-3
want!
they also have a mega green screen wall: http://filmcrewtech.posterous.com/adding-a-grid-to-the-new-pixel-corps-studio
You know they are live streaming the build 24/7?
https://www.dropcam.com/demo
noooooooooooo?
It has been plugged a hundred times over the past few weeks. It has sound as well
have fallen a bit behind since that racing series started up again :)
Racing gets in the way of so much
lisa is running her company from leo's studio too?
Who is Lisa?
Bettany
i assume so. alex was suggesting he, leo and lisa split the cost of a $12k jib between them for the studio.
I know she has a show with Leo now - Mostly Photography - or something similar but I don't know if her company is moving in too
Hardly a big budget item for any of them.
the guy lives in a whole other world. he was just talking about a sound recording device which is the 'gold' standard used by everyone including himself. i googled, thinking i needed one too... £5,034
Leo is making a couple of million from podcasts so $5k is nothing to him.
My goodness just seen a pic of Vettel's car in parc ferme at the end of the GP. Those tyres are in pieces!
I haven't seen that but is it not just lumps of rubber picked up from the track? The tyres do fall apart at a ridiculous rate
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b010gd75/Formula_1_2011_The_Malaysian_Grand_Prix/?t=2h56m15s
I've never seen tyres in that state... #buybridgestone
morning boys and girls
Hello Amyyyyy :)
its rainy and cold :( but I got a free smoothie :D
Mmmmmm smoothie
I'm sorry you can't go to Korea :( I recruited family members and everything :(
nothings been announced yet, it aint over til its over :)
You had a good time in Malaysia?
It's just pick up.Normally the marbles they picked up were so small but now they pick up lumps so it looks worse
the race was excellent, the experience as a whole was alright :)
Hi Amy.
Just going through your photos. WHo is Anna at Lotus? I have never seen her before
shes @annateamlotus on twitter, I assume shes something to do with PR. They always say shes done a great job on Lotus notes so I assume thats part of her job too.
I will follow her on twitter then.
I am already following her on twitter. She is Anna Goodrum. She did the videos from the Lotus factory during the Melbourne weekend. She looks different in daylight
hehe thats her!
I can't believe you have me leaving facebook comments on your photos. If I get addicted to facebook you are in trouble
sorry :D
don't forget to look after your farm
Hahahaha can you gift me a duck?
I don't play it but Mum is addicted to the town/city one whatever that is..
No I was only kidding, I don't play any of those silly things.
Just had a genius idea to help rig the contest in Amy's favour. Left the following comment on her photo thing
I hope Air Asia are going to choose the top 3 or 4 and ask them to write a review of Sunday's race. Wouldn't want someone who didn't understand enough about F1 to do a good job tweeting to win the comp.
I am not getting a farm. Mind you two weeks ago I was never going to get a facebook account and Journeyer was never going on twitter
Maybe Amy can submit hers in time for next year's Korean GP
heheh I suggested an 'uberfan test' ie 'name the two Team Lotus drivers'
But the competition technically has been closed and drawn according to the terms :)
heheh
You can have all the ducks you want if you play Farmville. Course you have to plant them and water them regularly or the turn into angry birds.
I think I am getting the hang of these games
I bought my ipad to work today so i can continue working on my fanvision post. I'm getting better!
Found a retweet by Anna with a pic of her and Mabel
http://yfrog.com/hsaofjsj
I'm not completely unimpressed by Brundle and DC
I think they are really good
They were interesting. I wasn't bored. The only thing I would say is that relying only on tv pics and their commentary, they weren't all that informative in terms of what was happening when I got confused.
I think it was that kind of race. Everyone was confused regardless of which commentary they had

F1 tyres are mostly synthetic, though Bridgestone does have a natural rubber plantation. Michelin didn't and I don't think Pirelli does.
Can I tell you I've officially been "pensioned off" the Duke of Edinburgh course instead?
Pensioned off. That seems harsh
The guy who said that (Andrea Stella) is Italian, so I would have thought that was a genuine Italian accent...
I know the engineer is Italian but Fernando is putting it on too I swear :P
The award rules state one has to be below a certain age to work towards it, I've exceeded that age limit and therefore today was my last session (I was allowed to stay for 2 sessions after my birthday to tidy up paperwork and collect certificates). So after helping out a first aid course for the younger students, there was a little ceremony to mark my leaving. Got 2 small certificates because I only managed half the award in the end. There were a couple of small speeches and then everyone ate loads of biscuits.
Mum ordered fish, chips, a spring roll and sweet-and-sour chicken for tea because she's been working hard sorting out horses and foals over the last couple of days (2 foals, with different parents, which have been born in the last 3 days, and another one was due over a month ago). So it was a lovely end to a somewhat weird day.
Evidently he's been around the engineers too much and the accent's rubbed off on him...
He speaks Italian so maybe it is easier for the eng. to understand him if he uses that accent
email has been replied to so hopefully they make their announcement asap
Sounds like you have achieved a lot.
Did you read that research that said foreigners find it easier to understand English if you speak in a "foreign" accent? That did really amuse me.
MR CCCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!
sorry
mr ccccccccccccccccccc!!!
I wonder if I'll get any work done today #probablynot
:)
I don't understand how the caps got there in his name. Did Christine type them?
Yes. I have experienced that in some countries to where I have resorted to doing that. I also worked with an English guy who had lived in Malaysia and he said because their native language is very staccato they struggled with English so. he. had. to. in. sert. pauses. in.to all. his sen.ten.ces and they then understood hime perfectly
You should be given a holiday
hi?
we need comments deleted #oops
it was the lower case that did it :D
Read your e-mail and start editing please
#confidential
That's where I went wrong before
oh blimey. right on it.
Nice birthday present though
think i got em all.
It's Amy's birthday as well???
Go buy lottery tickets now while your luck is still good
<3
Sleeptime, hopefully the thing will be talkaboutable by morning. :D
 Technically I was supposed to have achieved quite a bit more, but the expeditions were a disaster (one never happened, the other one resulted in me having to drop out partway through Day 2) and at no point during the 10 months I was there did anyone show the slightest interest in letting me volunteer for them.
Night Pat
You struggled to get your volunteering hours in? That's a real shame.
a commenting embargo, whatever next.
i don't know what else to say now, so i shall sleep too.
talkaboutable. :)
The system Importantalized it for you ;)
Night Mr C and Pat
#wordsthatshouldexist
#wordsthatdoexistnow
So long as you gained something from doing it then it does not matter that you were unable to complete it. I remember you discussing the problems with expeditions before
Thank you :)
That has to go in the dictionary. But not yet shhh
Night Mr C
i'll need a reminder tomorrow night unless someone else can do it
It's difficult to put in volunteering hours when nobody will let you volunteer in the first place! It's proved easier for me to get a paid job than an unpaid one...
Interviews for jobs that are filled 2 hours before the interview is due?
#seenitallthisweek
I just think it's a shame. Do you not have a volunteering centre in a local town?
sorry to hear that :(
:D
#sidepodtagsarefun
Yes. It was completely useless. As was the one in the city reasonably nearby.
i think i've killed all the other tabs, really going now. :)
Good night, then, really. :)
Goodnight!
Yes. It was completely useless. As was the one in the city reasonably nearby.
Sorry to hear that. I've never actually taken a vacancy that they found for me in the end. I used to volunteer a lot when I was at school goodness knows how I got into that thinking about it. I've always found friendly staff at local CABs as well.
I've had voluntary posts before, but that was when I was a library student and even then it was considerably more difficult for me than the careers people had led me to believe it was.
I don't even know when my local CAB is open - it allegedly does open sometimes but I've never seen it in that state (and even if it had I'd never previously considered the possibility they might offer volunteering help).
You can volunteer there! They're very lovely and it's interesting. I have my advisory certificate but there's lots of help always needed for lots of things.
When they're open...
The first time I went in there I tripped over a rusty snapped off bollard and cut my foot. I think the centre manager was so happy I didn't ring the council that she'd have let me do anything after that :D
Interesting way to make a first impression, though it sounds a bit painful...
If there's one thing I'm good at, it's falling flat on my face.
You're good at other stuff too - it's not many people can get that kind of reaction off a manager after tripping over something...
Oh dear.
Was just overhearing a conversation at work: "Who was this Jim Clark guy anyway, and why did he have so many poles?"
Sheesh!
