Good morning race fans! How are you all today? Its race daaayy, how exciting! Yesterday bought an amazing qualifying session, meaning the stage is set for a brilliant race today. The ever present promise of rain, and the small margins between the top 4 drivers could equal the perfect formula for a wonderful morning of racing.
Before I go into any links today is the last opportunity we have to vote. Vote for what I hear you ask?..

Credit: Amy Fulton
Vote for Amy!!
It’s getting close so if there is a friend you’ve not asked, or a member of your family.. or even your postman, today is the day! Details on what to do can be found here. Uber Fan Amy needs your help and.. your friends… your parents.. and well, you get the idea.
Yesterday was, of course, qualifying, and my what a qualifying it was! If you missed anything you can find the highlights here and Leigh has done a great round up of all the action here. You can also watch the top three press conference here, if you missed it too.
Oh and don’t forget F1 minute!!
If you’re wondering what’s up with Ferrari’s pace this weekend then well… so are Ferrari. Answers on a postcard to Maranello, sounds like they need our help too!
Ohh and a bit of F1 news, pole position has moved to the right hand side for the race today find out why here.
Time for this week’s inspirational arty links:
• Landscapes really are dramatic and beautiful things.
• Ever wanted some quirky and different shoes?
• I think I want these in my garden.
• Samuel Bradley is a 2nd year student of UCA, and he’s a pretty damn good contemporary photographer.
• Let’s have a photo of Kimi smiling, cause well we don’t have enough of those do we?
• Want a different and cute F1 poster? Think I may have found something for you.
• Finally, if all these links have inspired you to get creative, why now try out the mclaren competition?
I want to end with another link to one of my uni friend’s work. Dom is one of my flatmates (he’s recently joined twitter and everything!) and he’s a lovely guy (he’s letting me use his TV to watch F1 this weekend and everything!). Last term he edited a documentary video and it’s ace. However he’d love your opinions too, so please check it out and tweet him any views please, he’d love it!
I hope you all enjoy the race today, and the rest of this lovely Sunday. See you all in the comments!
Hey new daily.
lukkkeeeehhh!!! it stretched the photo.. :(
You may be a day behind everyone else...
#sorryamy
ooppss, fixed. :)
i can't embed images to save my life so Lukeh emailed the code.. i blame him.. :)
aww. the default image size is 16:9 and the pic is probably 4:3, you just need to enter the correct height accordingly.
i can do that for you, but given your career path, i reckon you can do that far faster than i ever could.
I feel committed to the cause, I even pestered my sister in a facebook message to like it and she did :D I'm not sure many of my other friends would respond well to that though....
I can't believe he didn't make sure he gave you the right code
erm.. okay.. i'll try.. for some reason i just dont get on with embedding photography..
i know! ;) how mean!
Morning allllllll
:D
At least when you do it a photo appears. I can't even do that
that's gotta be a core skill for the future i reckon.
:)
Mr C
Did you get the Merc statomajog and is the one you were looking for?
However he’d love your opinions too, so please check it out and tweet him any views please, he’d love it!
ooh, yay, more video.
indeedy. no idea why i didn't receive it, but sorted for the fbfb later. ta.
but.. i didn't do this one.. or last weeks! lol
can you teach me?.. cause i don't know what to do...
Nay sweat
:)
i love living with 2 film students :) it's awesome. They're so good at what they do but they are both very new to the world of plugging their work and being on twitter etc.. so am trying to help :)
plus Dom let me use his tv this weekend for f1 :)
If only you knew someone who could give them a course in plugology
hehe i'm trying my best! :) they're getting there.. slowly :)
no worries. you have the shortcode (it starts with [image]). inside the shortcode is a bunch of attributes, mostly sensibly named. look for the following:
width="500" height="288"
375 is the correct height, but it looks like it's missing a final quote mark so isn't being read. ...i think?
I am sure you will sort them out.
I seem to remember a conversation with you when you were short of confidence before you went to uni when a few of us were trying to tell you about the advantage you had with people knowing about your stuff on the net and contact with F1 photogs. Now you are seeing how big a hill you could have had to climb
it's fab. am reading the comments, but i have no idea what this means:
The only tiny thing that I noticed is that you can see the ground glass from the 35mm adapter, so maybe next time use one that has a vibrating ground glass instead.
more to learn!
Surely vibrating ground glass would show up more?? Not that I understand what they are talking about
AAARRRGGHHHH!!!!
Just watching Quali.... FOM, BBC... If you broadcast in HD, don't format 4:3 safe!!!
i can see some dust on the lens at 04:50, i wonder if the vibration thing is a dust cleaner?
nope, not that, or maybe sort of:
An interesting idea is to have the ground glass spin or vibrate (in direction(s) perpendicular to the lens optical axis) to effectively erase any crud sitting on the screen (but large particles are going to produce streaks, so it is not foolproof).
ohhhh it was!! and it's now fixed..
#babysteps
I love the landscapes and the giant pencils
I love the idea of having someone write a book for you if you have a good story
w00t! quote marks almost always need to be a matching pair, so it's a good thing to look out for.
next step is to add your own shortcode from the lower right of the admin page. maybe next week :)
am assuming it has something to do with the fact our stores give you lenses that don't necessarily go with the camera itself.. but i know nothing about film. He's sleeping at the moment. i'll see if he can clarify tomorrow.. might even get him to tweet.. or even comment on here..
He has a twitter account and has never tweeted?
right. *makes mental note*
hehe yeah remember i'm taking #babysteps :)
i really like the video. a couple of shots are trying a bit too hard to be arty, but it's great to discover new things like this in a daily.
erm yeah.. it's on his phone now and everything.. he just hasn't tweeted about anything.. he looks at his feed though!
it's just point and click really.
I guess it is hard to impress when you are shooting what is effectively one side of an interview. Seems an odd subject to choose.
That's a start then
I notice Dom is not credited on the video so what is his interest in it?
says edited by dom, at the end.
Oops. Missed that

i just learned about: http://www.mobygratis.com/film-music.html
from the titles. could be handy.
it was their first shoot of uni so am guessing they were trying to impress, I keep telling them to get on social media and plug their work because it's the only way they'll get noticed. Another of my friends who does film is very very good at networking, the short film he shot outside of uni won a small award the other day, and he's shooting another this summer..
Sam is on twitter - http://twitter.com/#!/Sam_Milletti
As is his brand - http://twitter.com/#!/millettifilms
and his film is on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8BrFQtj1-0
filmed with general stuff he has and no uni things (cause he wasn't at uni when he did it). I keep trying to make my flatmates be more social media friendly like Sam.. :)
Yes I have and very interesting they are
That could be very useful
each semester they need to do something different within their group. So last semester Dom was the editor, this semester for their project (which is done with old Bolex cameras!) he was the producer. He much prefers cinematography though. Joe (the film i linked to last week) is the director of his film at the moment and he loves it!
Am slowly learning about film too.. :) such fun :)
Wow... gotta say, if one is in London or the South East today, the weather forecast is quite spectacular.
:)
The good thing about uni is that you learn lots outside lectures too
it's so great! :) plus we get to have some great conversations about awesome things like cinamatography which is something i've always loved but never known how to discuss technically!
the lines between what you do and what they do are converging everyday, could be very useful.
lets hope so! :) i did manage to have a nice chat with one of them about how awesome some of the shots in f1 were.. like angles and things and why i love it visually to watch too and even showed them som clips (i will get them into f1.. ;) )
I must sleep now because, well it's an early morning! eeekk! :) night all, and thank you to everyone who watched Dom's video :) xx
night lou and great daily by the way
:)
Definitely
Night Lou
Anyone fancy a little bit of late, late night reading?
go for it
Picture of the Day #006
http://theformulaoneandmotorsportsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/04/10/picture-of-the-day-006/
a great picture :)
The second I saw on the Beeb this morning, I thought "snap!"
:)
...and it really is a very, very telling shot.
agreed. he can see this years title disappearing right there.
It's odd - I was saying to a friend earlier that at least Hispania have a vague idea of where their car problems are; Ferrari on the other hand...
how can you be so good in testing and so lost now?
Something I took a not of in testing:
Ferrari / McLaren, lots of short runs, 6-8 laps.
Red Bull, lots of long runs and race simulations, 15-25 laps.
Sorry, that should be "something I took a note of..."
Yes!!
:D
http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2011/04/procrastinate-qwertee-t-shirt-offer.html
Thanks for the p,ug Lou, I hope it works. Eeek last day!
I don't want to get out of awesome hotel bed. I'll miss it.
Er, plug
I just got home. Long day, but a good one.
How's it been, Amy?
good, not happy about leaving as it means i have to go back to work! Also sad my next GP is now 5 months away. On the other hand home is awesome because i get to see my brother tomorrow for the first time since Christmas 09 :)
How are you?
Good for a good time, boo for work - that's standard - sad about far away GP, yay for brother!
I'm good. I needed a new adapter for my mac laptop today. I got all scared that something was wrong with the connection points or something, but it was only a short in the wire, now I have a new one for nothing. Yay Apple Care.
And I was at the mall so I got some new shirts for the inferno that is work in the spring/summer with no air con.
I've decided I'm going to plan a trip to the UK for after school gets out. I'm sooo excited to plan it.
#iloveplanningtoo
awesome!
seems like just yesterday you had snow :)
hehe
It practically was, it was last week. Aw, last week we were in Boston now. *Sniff*
We haven't had spring. I think it's been canceled. We may go directly to summer.
Ooh mike gascoyne is right over there!
Hi Mike!
I think it's so much fun that you stayed so close to everyone.
looks like a late start for red bull and lotus today, theyre swarming the lobby and its 10.30am
So this is later than normal for them to be heading to the track?
normally theyre there by 9. Race doesnt atart til 4 today though i guess.
Where are your seats today?
same place as yesterdqy, i twitpicced a photo of the view :)
oh good, I'll check it out. I do remember seeing the tweet but I was at work and couldn't open it.
oh holy crap I just looked at it. WOW! yay!
Do you have to take a cab over again?
cab to the airport to drop off our baggage then shuttle bus to the track. Last cab ride thank god!
Yeah, it sounded like quite the journey.
Right i should get back to the room for breakfast and to finish packing. Have a good day all :)
Have fun. :)
Hmmmm... no sleep for Leigh - this could screw me about for a few days
Airport mcdonalds for lunch, mmm
Oh delightful. Why the airport?
flying out straight after the race so depositing our luggage here
Fair enough. Didn't realise you could leave luggage off so early
Just catching yesterday's GT1 race at the minute, then a cycle when it properly brightens up
:)
most airports have luggage storage. The one here looks dodgy so i hope i get my bag back!
Oh, didn't realise
Oh dear

Morning all, excellent daily Lou :)
Love those giant pencils, how awesome. I want some! Plus those landscape pictures are incredible, wow.
Back in. Just got in a (slow) six mile cycle in the beautiful, if fresh, sunshine
:)
The drivers with split personalities needed more trainers - DC :D
And back to lou's lovely daily. :)
oh my word how did kate get so many out of nowhere! She even has a million comments saying how great shed be for air asia #defeated
We gotta keep the positivity though and just keep trying for your sake! It's still very close
You are not defeated until the results are announced. Remember that creativity is part of the marks - and that you were the only frontrunner to remember to wear Lotus gear :)
and we dont know how the judges think, but if anyone else wins theyll have to retrospectively rename their competition to something other than uberfan :)
Not-as-uber-as-Amy fan :)
Anyways it's not over till it's over.
Got amy another like. she's up to 288 now..
Have messaged a few people earlier on who I think will do it for sure, will keep trying though!
You guys are awesome. Looking forward to hopping on the plane and having it be over by the time i get off though!

Lewis has a 20second penalty for moving more than once whilst defending his position
Now 8th behind Kobyashi
Wondering if thats what Alonso was up to with the stewards
#Moaning
why has hamilton been given a 20 second penalty?
Both drivers went to the stewards
ohh sorry *slaps self for not reading comments*
I assume for weaving on the main straight. When it occured I said in the comments but to be honest it was no worse than Massa against Jenson at Melbourne so I'm not sure why it's been pointed out
It wouldn't be F1 without stewards changing results I suppose. ;)
What? Outrageous
gonna really help his happy mood isn't it.. lol
#RedCarRule
I can imagine that he has had better days
Get the feeling he won't be the happiest person to talk to tonight coming out of Malaysia!
Massa was weaving all over the place in Melbourne
Didn't Lewis get penalised for the same offence last year?
Did he even get a warning?
Alonso gets 20secs too for ramming but stays 6th
goes 7th even
that red car rule, eh? :)
No
Mclaren and Ferrari drivers commit the same offence at 2 consecutive events, one gets a drive though, the other not even a warning.
Definatly #redcarrule
That is a ridiculous penalty too. It was just close racing.
I'm awaiting a penalty to Petrov for flying too high and Maldonado for simply retiring
really encouraging overtaking aren't they... :/
Joe got confused, Alonso stays 6th, no effective penalty
Not logging a proper flight plan?
Exactly.
I might ask the same question - and I thought penalising Alonso with time was bad enough.
Misinforming traffic control :)
That's Ferrari International Assistance for you
:D
All checked in, duty free for boss purchased, and now we wait :)
Who was the driver steward?
If they cant make a decsion during the race then none of them should be doing the job. Their should be a 1 lap time frame to decide.
Only time post race penalties should be applied is for incidents on the last 2 laps
Goodie :)
Emanuel Pirro
Emmanuele Pirro. He's sensible.
A decision in the race is impossible for that sort of thing because they need the driver testimony to make a fair judgement. That's been strongly recommended since USA 2003, when Montoya got a penalty for a collision with Barrichello that even Rubens thought was unwarranted.
You think 90secs or less is adequate tp make a sound judgement? C'mon!
He sounds like a footballer, which would explain a lot. Im guessing he played on the wing for Ferrari?
Red Bull air races do it in 20 seconds
easily. Virtualy every other sport that uses video review for decsions does it in that timeframe
He was a McLaren test driver
You can't make a fair decision without actually asking the drivers their view and getting both sides of the story first.
No. He's a sportscar driver who used to race for multiple teams in F1. Those teams being Scuderia Italia and Benetton, so Ferrari bias is unlikely.
They might, but they don't have to take participant's opinions into account.
Pirro is a purist. A total racing fan. No way is he capable of bias
The participants in most other sports can easily speak to the referree without worrying whether the discussion will impair their performances.
I am not sure that is necessary in F1 in many occasions
Why ever not?
They dont do that in any other sport? Having interviews turns the whole thing into a faux court case. I cant think of any decsion which has benefited by having a meeting then ruling like that after the race.
I'm not defending the fact they change results after the race, I can just see why they leave it till after races sometimes to make decisions. Granted today's is a non issue as it was just a racing incident...
The video umpire/ref doesnt speak to the people involved in cricket/tennis/rugby its all done remotely independent of play
It is in case the participants saw something that might mitigate an offence or shed new light on it that might warrant a greater penalty.
They do in swimming except for black-and-white purely technical cases. They do in football and rugby (that's what those discussions with referrees are about). It's only sports like golf, cricket and martial arts where it doesn't happen.
But then you are judging the individuals based on their ability to argue and not purely by their actions?
Surely its fairer to act on what is seen on track.
You wouldnt deal with a handball in football by postponing the decision to after the game then asking the guy about mitigating circumstances by which time he has scored the winning goal
I have watched a lot of football/rugby and i dont think i can remember the ref ever taking the word of a player over what he or a linesman has seen
No, they're being judged on what they saw. Appearances are very often deceptive. There's no way of demonstrating a collision was not avoidable without asking the participants for example.
A handball is a black/white technical matter. A collision is not.
Robbie Fowler once told a referee who had given him a penalty that it should not have been a penalty. He was told to shut up
I don't understand how can compare handball to a 150+ mph collision but fair enough.
Anyway, F1 has produced an amazing race and then made itself look very silly.
Maybe todt has done it deliberately to get back at bernie.
we should be thankfull it hasnt effected the eventual winner or podium this time at least
I have several times, admittedly at school-level games. Generally by professional level the training of the football referee and assistants far exceeds that of the footballers when it comes to regulations. Also, there are no "grey area" rules in football/rugby to the best of my knowledge.
This is far from being the case in F1. Ex-drivers are on the panel partly to correct this, but it's only ever a partial fix.
It definitely is not
Dear Jean
We do not need you to make Max's mistakes. Please go back to being the quiet, efficient governor of early 2010.
Yours sincerely
Alianora La Canta
I'm sure Jean was definitely in the stewards room demanding something to get back at Bernie
In what sense? If a hand touches the ball it's a handball. There may be a decision to make on whether to bother issuing a penalty for it but the event conditions were met.
That level of certainty can never be reached about whether a given collision was avoidable without driver testimony, and the race cannot be stopped while that testimony is delivered.
Max never was but he knew how to pressure people into doing what he wanted without needing to stand over them all the time.
i dont think its that different, You peanalise if it is deliberate/reckless
you can watch pretty much every relevent camera angle in 90s and make a decision
Since deliberation means the motives of the drivers must be known, that means the only possible way of being 100% certain is by acquiring those motives from the drivers.
There are all sorts of things to consider beyond the fact of contact. Did the player move his hand to or away from the ball? Whether his hand was in an unnatural position. Did he have time to get his hand out of the way? etc
He had Donnelly for that
There are williams guys in the terminal :)
did you expect anything else?
Surely that's only a consideration in terms of issuing a penalty - the handball happened in the first place whatever the answers to those questions was.
In swimming for example, it's against the regulations to touch the lane ropes. Sometimes the lane ropes get touched without a disqualification being issued (because, for example, the swimmer didn't have enough stroke control to avoid such contact) but because it, like handball, is a black/white technical regulation, it is always known if such a touch happened. For that sort of decision, the stewards are empowered to decide the matter alone and usually do.
On the other hand, gaining an advantage from improper means on relay changeovers is also a disqualifiable offence. However, for most varieties of improper relay changeover it can be difficult for the stewards to see if Person 2's movement before Person 1 touched is due to setting off early (banned), setting up ready for going (fine) or nerves (ambiguous). For this reason, most questionable relay changeovers are discussed with the team representatives on poolside - and the observations taken into account - before a disqualification decision is or is not issued.
Only in the later years. Max had the tricks mastered well before then...
Yay!
Yes. Occasionally the powers-that-be do know to leave something good alone. Occasionally being the operative word.
Agreed but the decision that results from the fact of contact between hand and ball can be very complex.
I don't see how something like that can be solved by discussion rather than observation .
Ask them to like your photo? :)
If there are any internet cafes/ web terminals you could always drum up business there :)
i wonder where theyre off to :)
ask them ...:)
Great idea
My point is that that sort of complex decision is within the referee's expertise and it therefore makes sense for the referee to decide (with appropriate assistance from the assistants). The referree is not required to use individual player psychology to work out whether the handball occurred in the first place.
Because the reasons affect whether the event in question took place. Observation alone is by definition not sufficient for such cases. It may be less obvious than with an avoidable collision in F1, but it is the case.
But that assumes that the people involved are honest and that is rarely the case in competitive sport. So you end up with a situation where the person who can construct the best case wins regardless of the facts
its like you dont know me at all :) #doesnttalktoanyone
I think it is und=fair you deny so many people the opportunity to get to know you
unfair not und=fair
With that assumption (which I've found to be most often false, but with a very high-stakes one like F1 is sometimes true), only black/white things are possible. So in the current context that means either no penalties for collisions ever or penalise every collision equally.
Apparently this was the incident in question http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L61_AevsjMs
Cant imagine a huge amount was gained by having a disposition after the race myself
I think it is possible to judge most collisions from video and ecu data. I doubt that in 95% of cases the driver testimony adds anything
1) I'm not convinced of that
2) ECU data, for the most part, only becomes available to those outside the teams after the race
3) I doubt most of the stewards would know how to interpret the ECU data - they'd end up 99% reliant on the witnesses and driver steward to tell them what was going on.
That was nothing compared to Massa's behaviour in Melbourne or Schumacher's on dozens of occasions. He wasn't even moving to block Alonso. You could argue that it was more than one move but the one move rule was brought in to stop Schumacher chopping people. Before the one move rule that would have been perfectly legal and well within the spirit of acceptable behaviour. The one move rule was designed to stop overly aggressive defending and what happened there was not that
aw thats sweet. Not gonna work though
:D but i used to be like that.. :)
He only moved twice because he paused moving in the middle! All movement was in the same direction. Did the stewards not notice that?
They have made a final call for some flight about 30 times. Stop lying! Its not final!
If it goes well you could become an f1 wife? :)
You have changed since you went to uni
They could argue that he made a slight move to the right once he had moved left to the middle but that would be harsh
i think it was partially goodwood and Spa too..
:D
im very good at talking to people in general, i just dont approach strangers unless i have to :)
i can't see anything worse than we've had in races where no one was given a penalty..
all the cute ones are taken. I think all the non cute ones are too :D
:D
I don't see any leftward movement at all. If there was any it was so tiny that half the defensive moves ever done in F1 (including at least 5 instances this race alone) should be penalised.
If the stewards can't even decide a black/white regulation sensibly there's no way I can trust them to decide the grey area ones without the help of those involved!
i think we're gonna need a ted news next week to explain it :D
I wish chequered flag could be out before i board :(
Bassano
Maybe you need to go chasing Formula 3 drivers and hope they make it to F1
i needed to know that when i was 17, theyre all too young now :(
I already feel like a gross old lady for thinking jaime is a bit of alright :D
with Seb being 23 and me turning 20 this year it kinda makes me feel like i've done nothing in my life! Seb is a bad example :P
hehehe!!
he was born inthe 90s! THE 90S!!
what's wrong with the 90's.. i was born in the 90s.. :)
i dont have a wee crush on you though :)
:D hahah! good point!
Right time to save ipad battery or i wont be able to entertain myself over night while rest of plane is zzzing. Byee!
byeee! have a safe flight! :)
Ian Parkes and F1enigma think vettel should have been punished for excesive weaving at the start.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMr4_nmGQgI
It is the start, but it does look worse than what Hamilton did...
You are flippin' kidding me. That's it. In the future, I'm not doing any more points graphs until five minutes before the next race starts.
Hello. I've just been for a walk through town, a slow walk because my golf shoes caused a bit of skin loss yesterday (ouch), it is lovely and warm with a little breeze to keep the edge off, just how i like it. :)
Birthday card bought for grandad.
:D
He did move once to his left, then right again, then left again to retake the racing line. I suppose he thought the first one was the racing line, the second was the 'one move', the third was to rejoin the line. I can see why it would look otherwise though. Marginal penalty, not clear cut to me.
That's easily worse than Hamilton.
That just isn't right. No-one who was born after the 70s should be allowed to race
Bye.
Safe flight
Oh dear!
Ian Parkes and F1enigma think vettel should have been punished for excesive weaving at the start.
www.youtube.com/w…tch?v=dMr4_nmGQgI
It is the start, but it does look worse than what Hamilton did...
And here is the big problem with timed penalities being applied after the race, becasue if Red Bull know that there might have been the a penality applied to the after the race, you just know they could find an extra 20 seconds somewhere with their pace. Okay they might have had to do one less pit stop, and of course when to stop would have had to change, but still, would it have mattered?
All well, I guess the judges do look at the gap then add another five seconds to ensure you lose a position....
The FIA are just getting back at you because they couldn't give half points
They have a case. That is weaving. McLaren should raise that with the FIA for the future
Seconded. If anything, Alonso deserved a worse penalty. If indeed Hamilton did anything wrong, the puncture already ruined his race and should've been punishment enough.
But he's just a consultant, no? Has no say in the final decision.
:D
Seriously, though, waiting until Monday should be enough. ;)
Hello people.
I like this FIA lot.
Alonso's penalty was to have to pit for a new front wing, the stewards didn't need to get involved.
No he's a full steward but there are three of them, it isn't just his decision as some people seem to think
Exactly. Not too worried about his penalty though as he did not lose a place. Slap on the wrist.
Can I point out that Alonso received the same penalty for causing an accident with Hamilton, so all of know exactly when that took place, but in Hamilton's case, we are not really sure when the incident did take place, so maybe Hamilton did a dangerous weave off-feed?
McLaren should be screaming about Vettel at the start. Button has a potential win here.....
Enough of this F1 Tomfollery! We have more important matters to discuss - Will there be Giggles Radio today ? :P
I thought they were considered as stewards now with a vote. This is another area of the rules that have changed so often that I have no idea what the current version is
Not on race weekends, as far as I know.
THat won't get investigated now
You need to wait till after China
It was 2 mins before the contact with alonso, so on the straight when alsonso almost got passed
'Alonso'
also
'Past'
okay. see eveyone later. I smell bacon, so breakfest calls.....
Bye Jordan. Bacon sounds good
Cops are around?
Just a thought:
Sauber lost 10 points in Australia. They've gotten 2 of those back at the expense of McLaren.
Each week we'll get those points back till we return the the points tally we rightly deserve.
Let's hope F1 isn't in disrepute by the time we get there. :P
I don't care as long as Sauber has those points ;)

Ping - A Round of Golf: 9th April 2011
http://thoughtsofpat.wordpress.com/2011/04/10/a-round-of-golf-9th-april-2011/
@Pressdog:
Last call! 75 tweeps will donate to @RacingForCancer if we see or hear "circus music" on @VersusIndyCar @ barber. R you in? #clownsforcancer
If you read his race notes on his blog you may know 'circus music', but if not, he links to circus music whenever there's chaos on track or an accident or whatever.
And today he wants the race broadcaster to mention it live on air when it happens.
Hmm. Just got home after going #outside and saw the penalties - bit daft considering Alonso had to change his wing - but I am not sure about Hamilton's because he does appear to weave around.
Doesn't matter much anyway because they both had poor races.
I know it sucks that they changed the result, but there's no fair way to do it. For example in Grand Am a team won the Daytona 500 one year and were found to be underweight because their oil cooler was found to have been burning oil during the race. Now, because NASCAR have a policy of not changing a result after the flag, this team won the race illegally. Not a good result either...
There's always the option of imposing penalties for the next race.
But in the case of the Grand Am race a penalty was imposed for the next race. They were allowed to keep the win (and the points I think) from Daytona though.
Yea, sounds like a different situations though.
In this one, no one had complained, Race Control never said they were investigating, and it all seems a bit pointless.
Voicemail sent via email - mentions the penalties and the Grand Am thingy BTW.
Ooh I'll send you guys a voicemail if youre interested
Always!
Maybe - I'm just pondering what the best way to do this would be. Neither way is terribly good.
It does - because it's back to the bad old days of not letting the drivers race and punishing all incidents. Perhaps they expect every to only pass in the DRS Zone now?
I skyped mine. It took 4 attempts before you answered. I guess Mr C was talking to that home wrecker again.
It's a good test of your editing skills
Ha. Perhaps. I don't see why they couldn't say they were investigating. Then we'd know not to believe the results we're seeing.
Maybe they realised how silly they looked if they said "hold on, the race may be finished but you can't go home yet cause we are not sure what to do"!
hehe
formula 1 makes me mad, i may need to rant on tonights show. a lot.
Can I be excused? ;)
Pingu: http://gridwalktalk.wordpress.com/2011/04/10/malaysian-grand-prix-2011-the-rain-that-never-came/
Is it ok to email them? Just seems easier to me to do a voice memo and email it from my iPhone...
Perfect.
Have sent voicemail, hopefully it goes through this time.
will check in 2 mins chappie
Just watching Windsor's Jim Clark special show. They said Clark did a hillclimb with the car that won Indy. I thought that car had asymetrical suspension
http://smibs.tv/the-flying-lap/jim-clark-malaysia-2011
He also said James key got fired last week ... ;)
:D
Quality of the program is not great so not for Mr C
i heard they can't afford to scale and had to half the size of the video footage. i believe i may have said their plan was unsustainable after the first show.
#notsmugintheslightest
Video is OK but editing, interview technique, flow of the show is awful
And don't forget the information they like to bring up as well...
ahh i see. and the picture is smaller and lower quality to boot. things are going well there then :)
Picture size doesn't look any different to me
ahh, may have been the last show or two. how far behind are you?
You're used to talking to me, aren't you?
Darn. What to do? I really wanted to see the Toronto Molson Indy this year, but it is being held on July 10th, the same weekend as Silverstone!
Stupid scheduling problems!
Latest show. Number 14
interesting. it's half size if you compare to earlier ones.
he could be listening to shows from january, if it were you :)
True. At least they are not as bad as midweek motorsport - bad connections, poor audio, super loud segways and incredibly bitter and biased discussion. I listened to it for the first time in months just to listen to the safety car rant and I realised I havent missed much ;)
It's more than half the width of my screen same as before
I will be in the uk from the 8th of July for a week :)
I should add that any chance to see a live race should overrule watching one on TV?
That's nice. I am stuck in Tundraland, and can not afford even the Montreal Grand prix this year. CART is the closest thing I have. If it was something like Valenica, no problem.... but the idea of DRS on the hanger straigth.... There has to be overtaking.....
Just go. You can watch the race later?
Hmmm, A little bit of a Communter Train run and I might be able to pull off both events......
Watch the F1 live on TV, catch a train, watch the indy in person.....
I almost want to make a Sidepodcastmeetup of this....
'
The TV station has already blown their budjet to get F1 in both HD and live. Therefore, it can not afford any tape delay coverage. If you do not see the race live, that's your tough luck. And I do not have any recording device hooked up to the TV, yet.
Just checking out the drivers in the Indycar series, hmmm Justin Wilson..... I should ask him if there's any chance of his shares splitting......
Who the heck is this Sebastien Bourdais dude ? :P
any idea why jerome is sticking his fingers up at vettel?
http://cdn.images.autosport.com/scaled/a85/a859c671df8e41c642c46e6470c448da.jpg
Looks like a wave on the slowdown lap
Maybe he is enjoying an invisible cigarette whilst casually overtaking the world champion
Hehe, it does look like that :)
That would make sense, if D'Ambrosio finished.
Technicality. Maybe as he was slowing to pull off?
it was taking during qually.
"haha! You may gesticulate with only one finger, but I can use two!"
New theory on why vettel shouts those random things when he gets pole e.t.c..
he is working on his ricky bobby catch phrase, just hasnt found it yet
hehe
This made me laugh courtesy of badgergp, check out the red bull in the corner :)
http://www.harrodsflysilverstone.co.uk/?gclid=CJH6yKm3kqgCFQRP4QodqT9LCw
Interesting choice of photo...
i wonder if they purposely used that picture cause it's the only one they could get of the car in focus? :)
Or it's the only one of a Red Bull because the others were actually Toro Rossos taken by mistake?
ha!
Hi folks
Just watched the race. Air Petrov!
I'm watching the Indy race at Barber in Alabama. First time seeing that track. It looks like a great place.
IndyLights right now, next race at 3:00EST
:)
Ping: http://www.f1bigpicture.com/news/two-cool
I love how he just stayed in it onto the grass, then ended up with the steering wheel in his lap!
Next race he will be sponsored by Aeroflot.
Is he OK BTW?
Was the forum worth watching?
Yeah it was pretty good.
Yep, just disgusted that the steering wheel came off.
ej was truly beyond awful in every way. aside from that i liked it.
Oh hells yeah I am watching then ;)
David Hobbs on Speed is our Legard, I've decided.
#sorryHobbsfans
Now he's just talking over everyone else with his nonsense.
Watch out the the highlight of him trying to interview JB
Notice the verb 'trying'
a career high for ej, no question.
He forgot the question or something?
No doubt Andrew Benson will defend him and his 'exclusives' though!
the only thing that makes him bearable:
- he's not eddie irvine
- he's not james allen
- he's not peter windsor
if it wasn't for those people waiting in the wings, i'd be starting a facebook group right now :)
Ha!
Well We all know JA does not exist at the BBC so he's out...
You know it's bad when I'm thinking "thank god DC was there to bail him out."
Oooh well thanks guys - you have made me really want to see it now!
Time for dinner (homemade pizza) and the forum then ;)
:)
I'm thinking DC's been alright this year, improved a fair bit
I'm still not a fan, but his broadcasting skills seem much improved.
He still has much to learn to reach the heights of Tony 'Awesome' Jardine :)
his bias is there for all to see, even though he denies it. but his broadcast skills are fine. still miss not hearing crofty all weekend :(
actually... i heard in fp1, but that was last week :)

Hi Pat
Head feels funny from energy drink in the car, probably shouldn't have done that. But I had nice bit of black forest gateau and a bit of cake at my Grandad's, his birthday tomorrow.
am trying to quote any awesome things they say to help you get a dose of crofty and ant.. but i'm not sure i could watch a race without them..
Happy birthday, Grandad. :)
I was worried he'd be a car crash but he's doing pretty well
:)
He'll be 87. Was at Silverstone in 1950.
Wow!! What an interesting time to live, the last 87 years. Sooo much has happened.
Yeah definitely
Just had a thought on the 107% rule
The last time it was used, it was based on the pole position time, now it is not. Due to the tyre restrictions, the top teams don't have to try too hard and their Q1 times are significantly slower than Q3
Based on the Q3 time for Seb, both HRT cars would exceed 107%
Just a thought
Over 2 secs in fact
Has the Ted news video been shared?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/13029197.stm
True. The new qualifying system makes the old version impossible to apply but it is interesting.
Karthikeyan would have been. Liuzzi would have missed by 0.064 seconds...
My calculations were
Vettel: 1:34.870
107%: 1:41.511
Liuzzi: 1:41.549
KartHikeyan: 1:42.574
epic pointage for nick and his made-to-measure trophy!!!
#rankings
Very useful hashtag, by the way.
oh dear.. Lewis really proving that he isn't as good with strategy and tyres as Jenson..
Strategy is down to the team, tyres I agree with though we discussed this during the race.
I should switch computers to watch this, I like the Ted Talks
But the track was more rubbered-in for Seb's run, so HRT's times would also have been (a little bit) faster.
Ted said that it was Lewis' decision to pit for new tyres at the end of the race, and the team tried to discourage him but in the end there is nothing they can do..
Ooh thanks
I agree, it weas just a thought that it's not truly comparable
Well I guess if he felt he was losing grip, I'm sure he'd rather have not pitted
hah
fair point.
Q1 is the only comparable session across the board - but I agree that the top teams would not be pushing 100%
Thanks Ted
• Webber had an overheating clutch at the start
• Not only was it Lewis' call to pit near the end, he insisted on it, against advice
• Pastor had a misfire from a rogue coil
who?
:)
Very interested by this, didn't work out at all.
that's what i said... :)
Not the first or the last time...
A long time since I can think of a coil failing
Indycar stream
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/59337/1/watch-indy-grand-prix-alabama.html
SOmething that £25 million cant buy then?
oh yes, thank you Ted.
A racing coil can only cost a few hundred
luck.
Priceless
I just tuned in on tv. That lap around Barber park with the 2 seater gave a good sense of the track. I like that place already, it's refreshingly different/old school/pretty.
It will be interesting to see what it looks like on the first lap with the whole grid on it
Wel, suspected but Williams seem to be combining all their bad luck into this early part of the season
It reminds me of the start Sauber had in 2010...
My point was, not only was it his idea but he went against advice
Great, thanks
sorry should have been more specific that's why i said he showed it was him that was worse at calls like that than Jenson.. cause it was 100% his decision..
I wonder why he didn't mention it in interviews, choosing to rather say 'we'
I have a batch of back ups just in case
http://www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=112457∂=sports
I do't think anything in F1 costs lest than a few hundred apart from O-rings
This one isn't freezing as much for me:
http://www.justin.tv/jab01#/w/1066952272
True
It's always 'we', that's how media works
Win together, lose together
NASA buys from F1 or F1 buys from NASA? :)
I love Dario, he seems like such an awesome guy.
Steven, are you making me become Scottish?
And seals. They range from 50p to £5...
It seems like that
Standard aerospace grade, if you're allowed to sell to aviation/NASA/F1 you can add 'Superiority Tax'
Of course
Depends how many are manufactured
hehe
except for when we overhear Lewis being angry at the team for it going wrong :P
on the radio..
Pat,
That justin link loads for me but the video screen within the page stays black despite the rest of the page loading. most odd
Or Jenson saying "why is this car hanndling so bad now"
Brawn '09
Ok here
I've had that happen before for other stuff on Justintv, and reloading the page usually works for me, if I remember right.
Weird. The one you gave loaded but the video stuttered to a halt while the audio continued. This one is good if a bit poor quality. I'll take poor quality for non-stuttered.
That's difference between talking to the team and talking to the world
I meant each. It takes only one to cause a DNF...
I like Justin links as you can usually chuck the username into the iPad/iPhone app
Tried 3 times
boo.
I get that, but the price depends on how many are manufactured. Loads = a lower price per unit
The one I posted has stopped totally three times on me
Ooh I'll try that
not directly blaming the team ;) but point taken :)
Ping: http://www.f1minute.com/news/sebastian-vettel-converts-his-malaysia-pole-position-into-second-consecutive-win
Justin link worked on 5th attempt
When does the race begin?
8.45
I love Mario Andretti.
"....air conditioning"
Marco's gotta lose the white sunglasses. eek. (not in a good way)
And Tony K is not happy with his car at all, says he hopes it's a top 15 car. :(
You guys may or may not be getting this based on feed performance, so I wanted to fill you in if you missed it.
Cheers, strange time
We are on baseball ads now
Everyone does :D
5 year old kids allowed only :D
Oh, I have to pay
Thanks.
Really? Can't remember that but depends how much you want to multiscreen I guess
Reading back through the comments, I have decided that my upcoming opticians test is going to be of most importance. I've missed an entire conversation and I don't know how I didn't notice it! :(
After all Izod ING DirecTV Firestone Global Honda Kymco Orbitz Philips Sirius Radio build up. And I missed about 10 of them. :)
oh, maybe he's showing his emotional, not chronological age?
Sorry, that was mean.
Only £2.99. Although I could have the browser fullscreen and use one of the others to comment like I did during the F1.
Robin Miller - Mike Conway could be number one at Andretti by the end of the season.
Ahead of Danica???
Then for you I guess it's not that important
For US racing it's good for me
I'm so happy to have you guys to watch a race with. It's been weird watching races all on my own bc I DVR them. I tried to stay up last night/this morning until 3:30am when it started, but had to sleep at 2:00.

You'll have company for Turkey at least
It's tough to do the night races. I slept through FP3 despite having three alarms set
Yeah. Oh, I may be able to see China live because then I'll have my spring vacation.
:D
Lights out at 4am, for you
Or is it 3? Are you back to -5hrs now?
yeah, 5 hours now
ooh

Hello all
Hey Joe
Hi Joe
Hi Joe. How's Florida?
Hot and humid. We went straight from winter to summer
Kanaan took Sato's setup??? I thought TK was the setup genius at Andretti
Spring has been canceled here, too. We're still in a post-winter cold thing.
I like that
Maybe that's why it isn't working for him?
Same here but I'm not entirely sure with all done with Winter yet ;)
Hiya Joe
He has Sato's setup for the race because he could not make his own setup work in quali or practise
That's the most conventional anthem I have heard at an American sporting event
oh sorry, I didn't hear the interview. This is all very surprising. I wonder what's up.
THen he had to freestyle the end
Who's the dude singing?
Still was better than the Super Bowl rendition
jinxed it. :) At least he knew the words, unlike Christina Aguilera.
American Idol winner
Ahh
All American Idol Winner
No one then ;)
Ruben Studdard. He won American Idol here, Simon Cowell's deal here.
Way way better
hehe
Yeah, poor guy.
Any relation to Paul?
Who does he think he's kidding with a name like that, tssshhh :)
The guys at the booth said that today's track at Leeds, Alabama has a lot of culture....
I have not idea where the yogurt truck overturned, will try to provide track updates.... :P
I assumed he was not a big enough name to totally torture the tune
Yogurt truck?
:D
Yoghurt - culture
I liked that ad
"So why do girls go to Las Vegas"
[did I hear that right?]
Definition of a frustrated man: Jack Arute's tweets right now, the man who was fired from Versus for reasons unknown, making the point that half the things they are doing in this pre-race show he called for to deaf ears..
thanks.
Think so
yep
Thought so, quite chuckle worthy
oh no. That's not a good look. Bitter much? It's sad, though.
I wonder why he was fired. I'm not complaining 'cause I didn't like his style, but I know a lot of folks did.
Should this be a breakout thread?
If you like
I don't have rights nor the knowledge, just a thought
Same here, I do like Bob Jenkins. He did the track announcing at the USGP for the F-BMW series, the first time I heard Simona's name
What are you live commenting? Happy to make a thread if someone wants to fill in the details later.
um I do but I'm eating, can do something very basic?
Indy Alabama something
That'd be fabbo!
Sorry, misquote
IndyCar Barber Motorsports Park
Woohoo! a few friends have liked amy's photos :)
Ooh, how's it going?
It's up to 292 at the moment, am sharing out the word now more people are online on my facebook :)
Looking at some of the cars on the Indy feed, I wonder why Coca Cola have never got involved in F1
Simona's got a bit of an unfortunate sponsor right now: Clean Nuclear Power
Kai: 10/04/2011 at 20:37:01
Yoghurt - culture
thanks.
#sorrykai.
In relation to?
No, I was just confused. :)
Good point, will check the other guys now

Thanks Pat
The only culture I see at that Alabama circuit seems to be in the grass strips laid between the circuit and the barriers..... :P
Boo, one of them is up to 320 :(
updated
Perfect. Thanks Pat.
BOOOO.
There any place on the interenet that I can the indycar race?
Here's the 1 I'm on: http://www.justin.tv/jab01?#/w/1066952272/2
Cheers Colin, we're commenting here: http://sidepodcast.com/post/live-indycar-grand-prix-of-alabama
rg, we have no voicemail from you sir :(
are ya sure you have the right number, because we've got quite a few others?
I go to skype, call and leave message. It has the voicemail and everything, so, am slightly confused.
Have you guys seen Vettel's bright wheelnut? http://www.flickr.com/photos/f1photos/5606646120/
another f1 podcast had the best suggestion :)
Ha! Indeed!
hmmm, shall we do what we did with steven, sit quietly and record you directly?
I'd probably be far too shy if I did it that way.
I can always try from my PSP, that worked last year, but that is somewhere and probably needs charging.
Lotus Uberfan not looking good for Amy
Personally, I don't get why we didn't get behind one person only, a Sidepodperson
Personal opinion
up to you, we don't want to lose you twice due to bloody skype :)
Skype may win the small battles but I'll win the war. I'll try again next week, and if that doesn't work then I'll just have to throw all the technology in my room out the window.
Yes, it's skype's fault I can't conference call. Not my ineptitude :D
:D
That was hilarious.
You didn'y hear the failed attempts before that one. That was a local recording of a skype conversation
Heheh!
anyone can write a guest post bassano, so long as the content isn't libellous we're not going to start picking and choosing what gets published. ever.
hey, if it was amy vs lou, what would you do? then why should it be any different if it's someone who's a new fan and opposed to a long term listener? we have one facebook account and amy got our vote. i think that's fair.
that you buddy.
"Why do grown-ups gp to Las Vegas"
That makes more sense in an equal opportunities in marketing America
*thank you buddy.
Fair point, I didn't realise Kate wrote the post
If so, then that's fair enough
I'm all up for equality
When does theAir Asia comp finish?
via the 'write us a guest post' form thingy. personally i think amy's done a great job of promoting air asia and we don't even know if it's based on vote counts anyway.
Sometime tomorrow I guess, 12th September
All details in Amy's post: http://sidepodcast.com/post/help-amy-be-the-uber-fan
Blimey, the year went quick.
Uhh, 11th April
....uhh...
I have absolutely no idea where that came from
As good as any
My impression was that it was but I've been intermittantly paying attention so I couldn'yt say
Damn smart answers ;)
Recording a debrief now. Wonder how much I can get away with commenting throughout :)
Not paying full attention, you have a mentor to guide you surely?
During Mr C's rants
During his outtakes
He was pondering whether you should get your own little outtakes section ;)
I happily await Mr C's rant :)
I may or may not rant too, depending on if I can actually formulate any sentences. Been struggling today :)
Include a 'Donate Now' button in posts like that and we won't feel so bad ;)
ohh i'm having one of those days too. only i'm structuring my typing all wrong too..
You want to keep the show under an hour
You should have heard my twenty minute call to leave a 30 second voicemail
For a single word?
Hehe :)
I had to rerecord mine a few times, there's only so many times I could geta way with getting the wrong drivers in the wrong teams
:D ohh can mr and mrs c release that please! :)
That's what I thought :)
It's always worrying when a voicemail ends: "Good luck editing that Christine, because it was a disaster."
It had several syllables
:D
:D
:D
At least I am grateful and honest. And hopeless
:D
It really did end like that
Made me chuckle :)
Awww.
:D
Out takes please? ;)
The beaches in the golf look so fun to play in.
There is a lot of silence. I had no notes so once I went wrong the first time I couldn't remember how I started it. I literally had no idea what I said 20 seconds earlier
They don't have any of them at Augusta....
I may be able to rustle up an outtake if Steven doesn't mind.
The ones around the green and the tee? I can't remember what they're called though, the sand pits. They look fun :)
No problem. I have said far too many stupid things live to worry about the odd outtake
Save it for a di Resta end of year report :D
Bunkers ;)
Beaches can be found on courses like St. Andrews...
You'll be able to make a whole sentence :)
oohh Bunkers!
That's not confusing at all. :)
There are enough to give you one a week between now and then
Bunkers to you too... ;)
Speaking of golf - across the street from us is a golf course, and we saw a car pull over and stop. A boy got out, walked onto the pavement and into the grass to relieve himself, but decided to face back towards us at the buildings! It was so funny!
RG why do they shout at the ball when it's in the air?
Because the hot air creates thermals which allows the ball to fly higher
I think its because they feel that shouting at them has more to do where it lands than say the swing.
Bloody hell!
'cause it's the only time they get to shout anything all day.
I'm not really kidding. I used to go to tournaments.
Ohhh..
Damn you Gavin... :)
oh, that's better. :)
Did I have you for a second there? :D
My brain tells me it is not sensible to answer this question :)
Well you have had a long day ;)
I understood it to be a combination of "likes" and creativity in the photo.
Well today I've missed an entire conversation in the comments, spent half an hour trying to rememember a password for a forum then when I get locked out actually remember it, and got involved in an argument about gravy
Oh and there's the F1 too at 8am I suppose ;)
mind==blown...
As long as you were pro-gravy...
Red Bull Wheel Nuts
http://www.flickr.com/photos/f1photos/5606646120/
"hey used them in Singapore last year, they have small LED's on the nut to help guide the mechanic to the wheel nut"
C'mon, really
When I did my sporadic podcasts, I remember there being quite a few bloopers. My favourite was when I was recording a short depressing piece about Super Aguri at the station (my train was badly delayed). I said "And one more thing..." and right on cue the PA system said "We are sorry to announce that the train is delayed..."
Note the person who made the comment
RG, what is the masters?
I didn't even know it was possible to get into an argument about gravy...
Probably golf's most prestigious event...
:D
Such a stupid argument but I don't think I can be bothered to go back into it in all honesty. Just one of them days :)
"thef1times.com"
Username, schmoosername
I have had such an argument, based on the Danish word for gravy being 'sovs', which refers to all sauces, whilst English has reduced the term 'gravy' to refer to just the brown stuff...
Gravy is a serious subject
Can Lotus please tell me how the LMS season went? It should be about done where they are...
Ah, OK.
Garavy and auces are different
If you were Italian or Danish you would refer to any sauce as gravy.
Gravy is traditionally made from the juice of the meat, sauce not necessarily so
You tell Mrs. Goat this!!!!
No, you tell her. I hope to be a guest one day ;)§
You are welcome any time except July, at the moment. Sidepodhagen!
As a rule, I never travel during school holidays
Definitely, save your brownie points ;)
Brownie - gravy not sauce
:D
Brownie - a type of cake I like to eat.
Mmmmmmmmmmm. Brownies.
Despite the London saying, 'it's all gravy"
Ergo: It's all good

Question - when will the Austin circuit be finished?
Wednesday before the race?
Ouch
I mean, it'll be the Tuesday surely! :)
No chance of it being finished this year then? Like, finished in a Korea fashion?
Has anyone else seen this from Fp1?!

ouch :)
triple bogey for McIlroy a little bit ago
He fancied playing from someone's back garden...
Owwwww!
Why do the people just run over his second leg regardless?
Still, canny funny.
atonement is on tv! yaay!!
How does someone fall over and not lift their leg orhout at that low speed?
Malaysians are super chilled but...
This question made me laugh so hard....
They were just like "keep going!"
But then the guy gets up!
oh boy..
Ooh :)
Ggreat film
Awesome beach panning shot, about 3/4 in
Seconded...
ehhehehe
I think I'm switching
4?
omg yes! i love that scene it won loads of awards didn't it? i've seen this film so many times. such brilliant cinamatography and sound track. plus Benedict Cumberbatch is in it. and he's awesome :D
Amy has 300 likes
3 :)
ITV!
I'm not sure I'm morally allowed to watch ;)
Oh, Bassano, 'Hanna' is worth checking out. I liked it.
Didn't realise that. I remember Saoirse Ronan, superstar in the making
Ooh, Benedict has a dodgy mo
I looked up your comment, thanks. Good to know
Phew. Done.
Plus James McAvoy, he's always fantastic
Well done :)
Already???
20laps to go in Indycar race
oi! who's commenting and recording?
Yes.
At one point during his rant Mr C "grr:ed.
I didn't so much rant but I did have opinions.
Go me.
Ooooops.
busstteeeddd
"grr"ed
He he
and cute.. don't forget that he's kinda cute..
I 'grrr' fairly frequently myself.
If you say so, I was looking at Keira ;)
Yeah, he is. :)
Last King Of Scotland: must see film
:D
Keira is very pretty, and soo good in this type of drama.
am introducing my friend to this film. she's never seen it before.. and i'm making her watch pride and prejudice soon too...
Quite out of type for [half of] Never Let Me Go
Is she in the arts department?
Yes, true. I like her. I didn't know she'd be such a big star when I saw Bend It Like Beckham. I loved that film. #ssshhhh
Great film.
[English critic] Mark Kermode used to call her IKEA Knightly, mostly due to the Pirates films
I've never thought she was that bad
It was good fun though
Wasserface went on to ER didn't she?
Loved it. Bought it for £2.55 at HMV!
i have it at uni with me.. still haven't watched it yet. :(
Yeah, and I liked her the best in it. And whathisface went on the Tudors.
she's a photographer too :)
Me too.
Yeah and she was pretty good in that. No idea where she vanished after that though.
Ohh we should watch it! I really wanna watch that,
Saw in the cinema, very good film.
Make sure she doesn't miss the one-shot beach scene
she's heard about it.. and she's not leaving the kitchen till she does. :D i've told her about it again. hehe and dom is even watching it with us. :)
Parminder Nagra is her name
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0619406/
You really should
Ooh, I like ER.
Was just going to post that. Not doing too much then.
I think she had a child? Not sure. That's putting my tabloid tv knowledge to the test.
Wish I'd read this first rather then the film
Over 'The Lovely Bones' which I wish I'd read and never seen :)
I miss it. Used to be a religion to watch on Channel 4, Wednesdays at 9. Then they moved it to E4 before everyone could get E4 and I lost it.
ohh gosh i didn't like that film...
Yeah, I only read the book, and it was awesome.
Snap!
NEVER watch it
Peter Jackson done bad :(
[stick to what you are good at]
don't watch the film
you got it. :)
I used to like it, years ago. Then I lost touch
2 words: Mark Warlberg
:)
Though it gets worse than that
I'll never understand channel controllers.
Would love to watch the whole thing from the very beginning. I remember when they had the shooting with the new characters who looked to be main characters for years.. shocking and upsetting!
A lot of it, maybe all, is on iTunes, but it's wicked expensive.
I never quite forgave them for the helicopter thing.
Oooh did she?
Which one? When the grumpy doctor loses his arm or dies underneath one?
Both!
Oh, I remember that, too. So upsetting.
Hah that was hilarious, which probably wasn't their intention!
I've got a LoveFilm sub which will be cheaper probably, got lots of things in the queue before then.
I keep meaning to join that, Haven't rented a movie in ages. If I plug my modem into my cable box I can stream movies but my PC is on the other side of the house and a wifi adaptor didn't work...
Fair call, it was pretty silly!
The second one I did laugh at!
The first one was just like... I never want to go near a helicopter again. Which wasn't exactly a thought I needed reinforcing.
Then the second one was just silly.
Maybe that ER was some kind of super gravity vortex for helicopters.
Spinning blades and the public never mix :)
It certainly was. That and snow.
Depends on where you are, but yeah, I can agree with that. hehehe
I didn't realise there were two, I mean the one squashing the guy
If you're not 'staff' then steer clear of the props
That's the second one.
Speaking of medical shows, has anyone seen Nurse Jackie starring Edie Falco?
Two helicopter disasters is just sloppy
How much work does a hospital have to create?
Heard of it, but no
It's unusual, but I like that, and I like Edie Falco in it.
I saw perhaps the first scene and was a bit put off but people rave about it.
Yo folks
It is different, with a drug addict nurse who cheats on her husband, but I mostly like it if I just leave my judgments aside. I wasn't sure I liked it at first.
Hey Leigh.
You just missed the race
Aye - I'm to catch a DL later. I slept through the early evening
Never heard of it
Am doing my post-F1 post at the minute. Should be up shortly
:)
It may be in the 3rd season now. The 2nd is on DVD.
It's on late at night. I watched the first few episodes then decided it was rubbish
I miss a lot by not watching much TV
I used to be such a telly addict
It's not for everyone. :)
I was talking to my mum about our new TV, and she said it was like I'd never had a TV before. You get out of the habit so easily!
I have a huge tv but it mostly sees F1, BBC News or films
Definitely not for me
I intend to blog about it at some point, but I bought a TV guide and suddenly felt this huge pressure to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
Mr C and I have been flicking through the channels occasionally and spotted films we'd love to watch but they're half an hour in and we've missed out.
It's hard trying to reconcile on demand consumption with a big box of constant entertainment.
I don't watch much either - we don't get all of them here either.
We have Mad Men but I lost track. So my colleague has lent me season one again.
I hate that - I can't plan ahead so I rarely watch movies on TV now.
I chastise my friend for watching Sky News everytime. He's transfixed by the yellow ticker tape
I watched season one of that because they repeated it on BBC Four but there's no sign of any more!
EPG : Electronic Programme Guide
It's on my LoveFilm list, Series 1 to be watched soon
We have no option for recording at the moment, and am loathe to do so because then I will never do anything but watch TV :)
Trying to prise Mrs. Goat away from corpse programmes and onto something decent. So far I have tried Brian Cox and Mad Men and have utterly failed.
That is very difficult, you need a PVR, but then the problem is finding time to watch everything on it. Mine broke.
Fair point, you have iPlayer, 4OD and the other ones
To think you might be missing Masterchef...
That certainly doesn't help!
apple tv has MLB, i am very tempted to sign up for a month.
Don't tell Alison but I've never seen it :)
Only the Comic Relief thing with the Prime Minister.
:O
To the iPlayer with you young lady!
;)
Shhh! You aren't missing much. It's cookery but no Gammon Watch
I tried, I really did. I just can't deal with the shouting and fake overdramatic production. Loyd was so much better!
OMG
I have created a baseball fan. As long as you turn into a Yankees supporter
In all fairness, isn't all reality TV like that?
Can you do that in the UK?
Red Sox or bust
#SidepodBoston
We'll have to go see a match/game/innings and whoever we cheer for then becomes the team.
#astonvilla
well, i would solicit advice beforehand, but as soon as i get time. there's a whole MLB app on the ipad to check out too.
who are the yankees?
Joe would say Rays
I've got the BT Vision box which is an integrated Freeview PVR and on-demand streaming, it works very well, until you plug in an aerial cable with a water leak (at my old place). Must get on to them for a new box.
New York
Pretty much now yeah
All I know about baseball is if you build it, HE will come. Apparently.
Who just so happened to beat the team down the road from me today...
You must be due to go to your next new sport soon
lies!
All I know about baseball is I enjoyed the game they played on the holodeck in Deep Space Nine.
Oooh! I have not been keeping up. Bad fan.
New York Yankees
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=nyy
They. Film is obviously wrong :)
I know. Silly thing
oooh, i already have THEIR T-SHIRT!!
Really, really. Next on my list is the next letter of the alphabet and then a sport. Still trying to decide which.
Wonder if they have an uber fan comp
IS THAT WHAT THAT IS???
hahahah
i had no frickin' idea.
who's "JETER 2"?
For some strange reason, I am now in the mood to watch Cheers
Depends whether you want inside or outside, team event or individual etc
Oh dear!
:D
He is the captain of the Yankees. Plays short stop. One of the biggest names in the sport. Derek Jeter
:D
:)
oh.
we need a picture of me in this, one sec. what a revelation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_Jeter
My dad suggested Speedway, but I don't really know what that is. Bike type things?
Yankees are playing the Red Sox at Fenway park (Boston) at 1 am tonight
YES!
Ask RG
[ short answer: yes]
Your anonimity is going to be slightly compromised
How about NASCAR Trucks? I hear they have some European guy racing soon.
;)
Bit late now Boston!
ahh they've done this before
RG is your man for that. Loves his speedway. I have never been but I used to know people who loved it. Races are very short so there is always something to watch
The ol' "paper bag over the head trick"
It's awesome, but you need good ear protection!
Sortta a cross between football and Motorsport...
...that isn't Superleague
Really? I woulda said rally and athletics
Lap record at the Newcastle Diamonds is 60 seconds, perfect for speed sporting and it happens 15 times a night. You can usually get tons of entertainment in short bursts, raced at team level and individual as well.
:D
There's a track on my route to college, but I've never been in the venue...
Perfect for short attention span Mr C's :)
4 riders, 4 laps no brakes. Lots of sideways action
There's one half an hour from me but I've never been.. never saw the appeal tbh.
Short stop New York Yankees, very popular player, hunky, has dated Madonna and is now with Cameron Diaz.
oooh manipe emails me with fantasy league stuff. i need this from fantasy racers too:
Team name: This Could Be You
Points this round: 34
Total points: 70
Overall rank: 130 (Down 14)
You are good at the gossip! I like it :)
Just weird - bizarrely funny, but weird
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI6SCktGOo4&feature=player_embedded
Team name: Wessex Racing
Points this round: 58
Total points: 100
Overall rank: 95 (Up 9)
Madonna? Cameron Diaz? Didn't know any of that. I thought A-Rod was with Madonna at one time
It's in our citizenship requirements.
Break the mold! :)
Did a Bing photo search for Derek Jeter and the first one on the list is not exactly him playing baseball
http://mopupduty.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/mk010.jpg
He looks good in a bikini... Oh wait
piccy: http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/mlb-has-the-best-online-coverage-of-any-sport
No idea who she is but I am sure Kai will have the info in her file
oh hm, maybe I my Madonna dating history is a bit off. It may have been a long time ago...
Ok, in further research I've found he dated Mariah Carey, Jessica Biel, and Minka Kelly. No Madonna. Sorry A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez).
Heheheh.
You two just became Yankees fans
damn you
Oooohh.. artistic
:)
hehe
Don't know that one...
I saw the word Minka on the link to the photo so it must be her. WHoever she is
By the way, has the daily been done?
oh okay, she was in Friday Night Lights. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1310368/
You caught me just before I clicked schedule.
Minka Kelly
Fair enough. I'll leave it.
:)
He let Jessica go, what a fool
Terrible in A Team.
It's funny to see "Early Life" for her. That was like, last year, it seems. :)
Terrible actress full stop, girlfriend on the other hand...
She and Justin Timberlake have broken up.
She dated Turk? Good stuff.
And with the Masters done, I'm off to bed, see yas.
wow, you're like kathi mk II.
It's tough trying to keep up with these celbrities
Am just waiting for my refusal for Ange ;)
Who?
Night RG
:D :D :D
Turk, from Scrubs... Donald Faison...
hehe Combo of me, my junk food tv, and Wikipedia.
Night sir
night rg
I know who he is
they were together for a lifetime in hollywood years, like 3 or something.
Night RG
Keep your priorities. :)
:D
Always
Night
I liked her in that thing I watched. I can't remember the name. Hang on.
She was ok in the illusionist. Well, that film was decent. Let's say that
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry with Adam Sandler and Kevin James?
Ah ha!!
http://mrschristine.com/2010/03/22/film-watch-41-easy-virtue/
That's a good thing to say. :)
I did like that film a lot.
Can't wait see what it was now
Kris Marshall was in it?
i've never read that post before.
I vaguely recall, yes :)
You really didn't need to land yourself in it for that comment
Not seen it, too period drama for me
I don't think I've seen that one.
Does Danny not email us anymore?
I'd never heard of it but it was free on the iPlayer and I had a spare hour. She was alright in it is all I'm saying :)
am i missing an option? i've never got an email.
:)
Maybe she's a bit Lee MacKenzie, needs more than fluff to shine
I used to get email reminders after each race. I have had none in 2011
Could be.
There was lots of Lee this weekend.
She doesn't annoy me anymore, less gardens and racer's mansions.
Good to see
am quite miffed about that.
i was on mckenzie alert, to log how few seconds of tv she actually appeared on and she did loads of stuff. i swear she was invisible in melbourne.
True enough. I can't quite take her seriously when it was all about horses and shooting, both of which I find quite hideous!
is it worrying our league is 44th? that's beleaguered :)
Not as much interest these days
It's worrying that I was leading our league after the first race but about 600th overall
