Hello there and happy Saturday to one and all. It's a racing weekend so we're all busy, busy, but there's always time to give a quick wave and settle down in the daily for a natter. I must say Happy Birthday to Paul, who would celebrate today, except Jacques Villeneuve has stolen all the thunder of the day by also having a birthday. Happy birthday to both, that's what I say. Now, on with some news and things. Hey, you know what? I might try some bullet points.

  • First up, of course, it's qualifying day in Sepang. We've got Free Practice 3 coming up in the wee small hours, and then quali starts at the more reasonable 9am. I'll have the Factbyte Factbox fired up at about 8am UK time, so I hope to see you there. Who do you think can grab pole position today?
  • Ooh, if you're thinking about who might do well and who won't this weekend, don't forget to put in your picks for the SofaF1 pole poll. And can someone remind me to do it before qualifying starts? Thanking you!
  • Whilst on the subject of pretty cars, Lukeh has designed a Williams livery on a car in Forza 3. I don't know much about racing games, but I know that it looks amazing and must have taken a lot of time and even more patience, so well done Lukeh!
  • Back to F1 for a moment, a speedy update in both audio and visual - F1 Minute has all the Friday Practice information you need in just 60 seconds, whilst F1 Big Picture focuses in on one team in particular.
  • Meanwhile, if you want a bit of a glimpse into the latest Sidepodmeetup in Boston, then Kai has done a most excellent writeup - it's almost like we were there!
  • Finally, yesterday, we rounded up the two Mercedes adverts, highlighting just how amusing they are and asking the important question - Who would you choose? Michael or Nico?

I think that will do for now, I'm sure there will be plenty to keep an eye on throughout the day, so it only remains for me to say that you should keep an eye on the various Sidepodcast Twitter lists for great updates throughout the sessions. Oh, and also that I will see you in the comments.

    I agree with Jason. The north American market is poorly serviced by F1, I am looking at FP3 at 22:00 and quali at 01:00. Not conducive to viewing. No wonder only the die hard fans are keeping up with F1.

    Hi, just passing through.. sorry I wasn't around for qualifying but I overslept for the first 15 minutes (and the whole BBC opening show) so I just dragged myself to the sofa and watched there.

    I'm about to head out for a sunny round of golf after a break of a few weeks, here's hoping the rest and the nice weather will show an improvement in scoring. :) Then tonight, a night in watching The Masters unless it is boring.

    My family left me at home to work on a paper. But we also have a bunch of contractors here replacing all the carpet in the house, so there's lots of banging, ripping, knocking around, etc.

    heh, unfortunately I don't have that option :). The paper I'm working on is due tonight, then I have another one due tomorrow, then another one due Tuesday night, and a few hundred pages of reading to do during that time period as well.

    Luckily, the "papers" are pretty short (300-400 words)

    I'm worried about my plug for my macbook pro, the little green charging light doesn't always light up anymore and the icon on the top right doesn't show that it's charging, even when it's plugged in. It will come on for a second, then go out. It just started doing this when I got back from Boston. Maybe something happened to it in my bag? :(

    does wiggling the lead help? if so you need a new adapter, otherwise it could be a buildup of fluid on the connection, maybe?

    if I move the wire around the light goes on or off, so I pray it's only the adapter and somehow the connection points didn't get messed up.But nothing weird has happened to it, so I don't know how this could have happened. How much are the adapters?

    How has everyone's day been going? I've been having a good one. :) Accidentally slept through some quali but joined for the last 5min of Q1. Slept a bit more. Lovely sunny walk around the golf course netting a very nice score, at long last :D. Then spent waaaay too much money in Tesco but feel good for having actual food in the house again, before getting my nerd on by checking out the new Weymouth bypass on the way home - I approve.

    Actually, I think it's half live. It took them a while to work out what was wrong, then the next pre-recorded segment knocked it outta sync again.

    you wouldn't believe me if i said this, but actually tape is still the best way to record video. in terms of storage and stuff. flash drives are just too expensive and every other form of digital media cause tiny vibrations that affect the camera. only tape moves slow enough.

    ok, i think i've found the issue.

    SD cards use FAT32 storage technology and that is limited to 4GB per file max. recording video means one file per record, so recording at 1080p, you'll max out the file size limit in 11-12 minutes.

    every 11mins you'll have to stop recording and start again, no matter how big your SD card is just to create a new file. that make sense?

    not a problem with tape.

    Holy cow, you can get ones up to 2TB??? They use something called exFAT which I've never heard of.

    He would have been on the clean side but now he is on the marbles. He will be wishing they still had the Sunday morning warm up session. When Gilles Villeneuve was racing and tyres were not limited he used to keep driving over his start position and lock his wheels up. Everyone thought he was mental but by the start his box had half an inch of rubber on it and he got rocket starts.

    yeah, they didnt seem too surprised by it. The wire sticks out if the magnetic plug in the side, now it's designed to be flush with the side , and none of it cost anything. Thank you Apple Care.

    ahh. silver one? i find the difference is the cable bends less in that position so is less likely to break too.

    Yeah I had to go and do something else after I watched Q2 and I just finished watching now.

    I really thought he'd done it. I guess if he'd driven like that first lap at the end of the session, he'd have been well in there because it looked perfect...

    They all thought it was going to rain around the end of the session so he did his fast lap early. The last run was incredible because the top 4 all did the same time in the first sector and were within at tenth or two after the second sector. It was a great climax to the session

    Have you discovered the joys of the fun game I like to play called "it's-a-new-season-who-that-haven't-ever-heard-of-has-put-me-on-their-press-release-list" ?

    It is both fun and irritating all at the same time. Gives your delete button a good work out though.
