The FIA handle the diffuser rules

Sometimes I tell people I'm the guy who manages three out of four of the Saturdays, and the say to me, 'You are one lucky geeza, them girls are well fit, innit. But ain't there five of 'em?'

And I say to them, 'Haha, no sir - not the sequoia-legged, plastic-pop superstars, the Sidepodcast dailies!'

And they say, 'If I were a Saturday, I'd be Frankie Sandford, innit.'

So would I, hypothetical conversation partner. So would I.

This Week In F1

  • Webber super, super definitely, we're-not-even-joking, for sure staying with Red Bull: This past week, the executives at Red Bull have been desperate to state how certain they are that Webber is to stay with the team, batting away rumours about a young Daniel Ricciardo, Lewis Hamilton and even Kimi Raikkonen. Now even Dietrich Mateschitz himself has stepped up to say how little doubt he bears in Webber's continuation. Sounds like a good bargaining chip to negotiate with the long queue of drivers hungry for that no. 2 seat.
  • "There are no good Indian team bosses": Karun Chandhok and Narain Kartikeyan answered critics who chastised them for not driving for an Indian team.
'For sure, I'd love to drive for an Indian team,' said Kartikeyan. 'But I can't just join Force India because they are Indian - I need to think of my career.'
'The fact of the matter is, Vijay Mallya is not a real racing boss,' added Chandhok. 'He's only in the sport because he's got the money to be here, but I need a real team boss. You don't see Alonso driving for HRT just because they are Spanish, do you? No.'

This Time Last Year

  • Petrov's career "in his own hands": Following a competitive, but inconsistent start to the season fro Russia's first F1 pilot, Vitaly Petrov, Renault boss, Eric Boullier has stated that the rookie's career is 'in his own hands.' Little would he know that his career would actually be in the hands - or lack thereof - of his team mate, Kubica.
    What? What?. Too soon?

This Time Five Years Ago

  • Kubica Tops Time Sheets: BMW Sauber third driver, Robert Kubica, has topped the timesheets for Friday practice for the French GP (the what?). On the only day of the weekend when third drivers are allowed to test alongside the two lead drivers (they can do what now?), Robert was the fastest of the reserves, including Anthony Davidson (the radio guy?), Neel Jani (anagram of Ninja Eel?), Sakon Yamamoto (a motorbike?) and Robert Doornbos (who?).

This Time Next Year

  • FIA ban Japanese Drivers: 'Japanese drivers will be banned from F1 from immediate effect,' stated an FIA press conference, released today. Countering claims that the FIA are damage-limiting a season that has been utterly dominated by Red Bull's Kamui Kobayashi, the press release states: 'Japan is situated, on average, the farthest distance from the majority of the race tracks. This creates a massive carbon footprint, which is completely against what the FIA is trying to achieve.'

Kamui retorted, 'But I live in Milton Key-'

'Our decision is final,' the press release interrupted.

Hilarious stuff from Stuart. Kobayashi at Red Bull would be something.

Oh, and when you say 'future tweeting', you mean 2012, right? Because we ARE at the Nurburgring next weekend.

Mike Coughlan is in trouble again! http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93107

Michael Waltrip Racing has filed a lawsuit against Mike Coughlan and the Williams team over the former's hiring as chief engineer, claiming breach of contract and interference from the Formula 1 team.

Getting a medal is good. I missed the lady that was handing them out when I crossed the line and had to go back and ask for one. There was no way I was leaving without my medal.

Getting a medal is good. I missed the lady that was handing them out when I crossed the line and had to go back and ask for one. There was no way I was leaving without my medal.

the medal is very important, i need proof i finished it! I think I'll also buy the newspaper the day they print the times as proof that I wasn't last. My goals are to run it all and to not be last, I think the second goal is the only one I am confident about :)

I worked out the last time I did an actual organised run with someone timing me was my 1994 school cross country because in 1995 I got my mum to write a note to say I had asthma and 1996 I moved to another city to another school that didn't have a cross country. From a young age I was pretty intense in my methods to avoid running :D

  • Amy16/07/2011 at 11:42

What kind of weather are you expecting?

forecase says a minimum of 7, maximum of 14, Cloudy. Isolated showers, increasing to areas of rain during the afternoon. Winds northerly averaging up to 25 km/h.

It's at 10.30 so I don't think the rain will have set in. I'm hoping it's kind of cold, I seem to run better in the cold.

  • Christine16/07/2011 at 11:42

Ooh, proof is a great idea. I'm not sure our times were anywhere. I'm kinda glad about that :)

the title sponsor of the event is the main Melbourne newspaper so I think they have a special issue with all the results somewhere. Knowing me though I'll probably forget to attach the timing thing to my shoe. I should go do that now.

Well, the first rule is usually to install the latest updates. 10.6.8 is the most recent 'point' update

Then, there's also this, which may not be applicable to 10.6.3

As soon as I posted this I remembered that I forgot to install the Magic Trackpad and Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.0 (which, according to Apple, doesn't support Early '08 MBP's, but obviously does). Things are back to normal now.

You should be able to go straight to 10.6.8 with a combo update.

Hello all, today lukeh and i finally saw the senna movie. not gonna lie and say i didn't cry. what an amazing film tho! Very well made. Just wonderful.

Do you think I would like it?

  • Bassano16/07/2011 at 20:26

I'm very restless today. Like I've had too much caffeine or something...

    Restricted by the weather?

  • Bassano16/07/2011 at 20:26

Do you think I would like it?

Everyone will. Motorsport fans or not

  • Alison16/07/2011 at 20:26

    Restricted by the weather?

I've sadly been at work for 11 hour. I want more weather that'll stop that I think!

  • Kai16/07/2011 at 20:27

Everyone will. Motorsport fans or not

    I think so too.

  • lou16/07/2011 at 20:30

    awesomeness. fav bit?

it's impossible to choose. I adored the editing, the way they structured it was brilliant. Not like any documentary i've seen before. I learnt alot about the racing back then and it was so nice to get a different representation of everything (having read about many bits over and over again).

The way the covered that weekend was very well done too. Wonderful insite from mr watkins and everyone really.

I think i need to watch it again, although this time im definitely bringing tissues.. and not wearing makeup. I'm such a softy.

  • lou16/07/2011 at 20:31

Do you think I would like it?

you'll love it! you don't have to be a Senna fan to appreciate it, just the smallest thing like seeing an onboard lap of monaco on the big screen was something special. treat it like a visual f1 history lesson ;)

  • Alison16/07/2011 at 20:31

Everyone will. Motorsport fans or not

What if I'm not that into history!!

  • Bassano16/07/2011 at 20:31

The way the covered that weekend was very well done too. Wonderful insite from mr watkins and everyone really.

    Agreed on both counts

  • Kai16/07/2011 at 20:32

you'll love it! you don't have to be a Senna fan to appreciate it, just the smallest thing like seeing an onboard lap of monaco on the big screen was something special. treat it like a visual f1 history lesson ;)

And getting behind the scenes into the driver's meetings was amazing.

  • lou16/07/2011 at 20:33

    Agreed on both counts

i was expecting it to be very cheesy and things but it was tastefully done.

  • Bassano16/07/2011 at 20:33

What if I'm not that into history!!

    It's not a history lesson, it's a human story

There's less of "and in 1984, this happened" rather a tale of a talented young man from a deprived country

  • lou16/07/2011 at 20:33

And getting behind the scenes into the driver's meetings was amazing.

omg yes!! Lukeh noticed Eddie Jordan looking scarily young too! very funny but such an amazing insite. why don't they film them now?

  • Kai16/07/2011 at 20:33

What if I'm not that into history!!

It's a great human interest story, but not everyone will love it, I guess.

  • Bert16/07/2011 at 20:34

Hello all, today lukeh and i finally saw the senna movie. not gonna lie and say i didn't cry. what an amazing film tho! Very well made. Just wonderful.

Supposedly the public release date here in Canada is Aug 11.. Awaiting with anticipation, and taking all the various reviews in stride. Being a Prost fan and a Senna non-fan (MSC senior?) I am thinking that given all the reviews and analysis, I may see a more human view of Senna, perhaps at the rightful expense of Belestre and the French faction..

  • lou16/07/2011 at 20:34

What if I'm not that into history!!

have you seen the graham hill documentry?

  • Bassano16/07/2011 at 20:34

omg yes!! Lukeh noticed Eddie Jordan looking scarily young too! very funny but such an amazing insite. why don't they film them now?

Who says they don't? We just may not see it

there's a camera set up so they may do (meetings usually take place in the press room). it may be facing the wrong way though.

  • lou16/07/2011 at 20:35

Who says they don't? We just may not see it

good point. i'll rephrase it.... why cant we see any footage there may be :)

  • Kai16/07/2011 at 20:35

Oh, I'd like to see that.

Lukeh was saying that he thought Jean-Marie Balestre came off worse than Prost does as the 'bad guy'.. personally i didn't feel it was too 'down' on Prost. Will be interested to see what you think though :)

  • Bert16/07/2011 at 20:38

good point. i'll rephrase it.... why cant we see any footage there may be :)

Because it would take you a week or two to view all the footage.

  • Bassano16/07/2011 at 20:39

good point. i'll rephrase it.... why cant we see any footage there may be :)

If it was publically available, drivers would probably have to be sensitive to the sponsors. This isn't a good thing in such a briefing

  • lou16/07/2011 at 20:40

    Nopers.

oh. i was gonna say if you like that you'd like this.. erm... well i'd call Senna more of 'a man's story' even if you don't like racing i think people can get something from this film :)

  • Bert16/07/2011 at 20:40

Lukeh was saying that he thought Jean-Marie Balestre came off worse than Prost does as the 'bad guy'.. personally i didn't feel it was too 'down' on Prost. Will be interested to see what you think though :)

Regardless of who comes off worst, I will certainly accept a truthful representation vs. a rewrite of history, which by all accounts Senna is NOT.

  • lou16/07/2011 at 20:41

You haven't seen it yet you're saying it's not truthful?

No, I have not seen it, either in cinema or in otherwisely-obtanalble-methods. I did not mean to say that it is truthful, or not. just that my personal tainted view ay come off better for wear.

  • Kai16/07/2011 at 20:47

ohhh speaking of cameras i was delighted that even back in Senna's days i can still recognise photographers :)

  • lou16/07/2011 at 21:04

    Any cameos by Joe?

ooh i wasn't looking for him.. have a look when you see it.

Sutton had a staring speaking part, and i caught glimpses of the wonderful Paul HC and one or both of the Schlegelmilch brothers i think. (heart) f1 togs :)

  • Lukeh16/07/2011 at 21:04

Yay for Senna discussion. It was quite brilliant, it truly is. I geniunely believe it's important for a Formula 1 fan to go and see it. Not because it has proof EJ was once young (wtf at that) but just because it's so... I still can't find an adjective to accurately sum it up. It's just so well done.

Incredibly hard to watch the crashes though. So so hard. And I won't deny that mantears may have emerged.

  • Lukeh16/07/2011 at 21:09
