The FIA handle the diffuser rules
Sometimes I tell people I'm the guy who manages three out of four of the Saturdays, and the say to me, 'You are one lucky geeza, them girls are well fit, innit. But ain't there five of 'em?'
And I say to them, 'Haha, no sir - not the sequoia-legged, plastic-pop superstars, the Sidepodcast dailies!'
And they say, 'If I were a Saturday, I'd be Frankie Sandford, innit.'
So would I, hypothetical conversation partner. So would I.
This Week In F1
- Webber super, super definitely, we're-not-even-joking, for sure staying with Red Bull: This past week, the executives at Red Bull have been desperate to state how certain they are that Webber is to stay with the team, batting away rumours about a young Daniel Ricciardo, Lewis Hamilton and even Kimi Raikkonen. Now even Dietrich Mateschitz himself has stepped up to say how little doubt he bears in Webber's continuation. Sounds like a good bargaining chip to negotiate with the long queue of drivers hungry for that no. 2 seat.
- "There are no good Indian team bosses": Karun Chandhok and Narain Kartikeyan answered critics who chastised them for not driving for an Indian team.
'For sure, I'd love to drive for an Indian team,' said Kartikeyan. 'But I can't just join Force India because they are Indian - I need to think of my career.'
'The fact of the matter is, Vijay Mallya is not a real racing boss,' added Chandhok. 'He's only in the sport because he's got the money to be here, but I need a real team boss. You don't see Alonso driving for HRT just because they are Spanish, do you? No.'
This Time Last Year
- Petrov's career "in his own hands": Following a competitive, but inconsistent start to the season fro Russia's first F1 pilot, Vitaly Petrov, Renault boss, Eric Boullier has stated that the rookie's career is 'in his own hands.' Little would he know that his career would actually be in the hands - or lack thereof - of his team mate, Kubica.
What? What?. Too soon?
This Time Five Years Ago
- Kubica Tops Time Sheets: BMW Sauber third driver, Robert Kubica, has topped the timesheets for Friday practice for the French GP (the what?). On the only day of the weekend when third drivers are allowed to test alongside the two lead drivers (they can do what now?), Robert was the fastest of the reserves, including Anthony Davidson (the radio guy?), Neel Jani (anagram of Ninja Eel?), Sakon Yamamoto (a motorbike?) and Robert Doornbos (who?).
This Time Next Year
- FIA ban Japanese Drivers: 'Japanese drivers will be banned from F1 from immediate effect,' stated an FIA press conference, released today. Countering claims that the FIA are damage-limiting a season that has been utterly dominated by Red Bull's Kamui Kobayashi, the press release states: 'Japan is situated, on average, the farthest distance from the majority of the race tracks. This creates a massive carbon footprint, which is completely against what the FIA is trying to achieve.'
Kamui retorted, 'But I live in Milton Key-'
'Our decision is final,' the press release interrupted.
- Future Tweeting:
Just arriving at the Nurburgring. I think we're going to have a wet weekend! #F1
I think I must be the first one here. Like a ghost town, tis, tis. #F1
Where is everyone? @jakehumphreyf1 @CoulthardBBCF1
@EddieJordan_F1 We're at Hockenheim, you great numpty!
@tedkravitz I need a massive favour.

Be aware, only Jake Humphrey & Ted Kravitz have real twitter accounts.
hullo new (and troublesome) daily post! i can't believe stuart typed it twice.
Hilarious stuff from Stuart. Kobayashi at Red Bull would be something.
Oh, and when you say 'future tweeting', you mean 2012, right? Because we ARE at the Nurburgring next weekend.
Morning. Stuart's posts are excellent as always :D

i am at the movies for the second night in a row but tonight i might die of thirst as the line was way too long to buy a drink. The perils of a cinema when harry potter is showing.
kicked out of cinema because they forgot to clean it, might as well join the giant queue
I love the daily, Stuart. The picture is ace. Yoink!
Great daily, I can actually imagine that happening to Eddie!

Mike Coughlan is in trouble again! http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93107
Michael Waltrip Racing has filed a lawsuit against Mike Coughlan and the Williams team over the former's hiring as chief engineer, claiming breach of contract and interference from the Formula 1 team.

Ted News! (sort of, the headline made me laugh!)
i don't want to do this silly run tomorrow
It'll be worth it.
That definitely sounds about right :)
at least once it's over I'll never ever ever have to do another one. And I'll have a medal!
Getting a medal is good. I missed the lady that was handing them out when I crossed the line and had to go back and ask for one. There was no way I was leaving without my medal.
What kind of weather are you expecting?
the medal is very important, i need proof i finished it! I think I'll also buy the newspaper the day they print the times as proof that I wasn't last. My goals are to run it all and to not be last, I think the second goal is the only one I am confident about :)
I worked out the last time I did an actual organised run with someone timing me was my 1994 school cross country because in 1995 I got my mum to write a note to say I had asthma and 1996 I moved to another city to another school that didn't have a cross country. From a young age I was pretty intense in my methods to avoid running :D
forecase says a minimum of 7, maximum of 14, Cloudy. Isolated showers, increasing to areas of rain during the afternoon. Winds northerly averaging up to 25 km/h.
It's at 10.30 so I don't think the rain will have set in. I'm hoping it's kind of cold, I seem to run better in the cold.
Ooh, proof is a great idea. I'm not sure our times were anywhere. I'm kinda glad about that :)
the title sponsor of the event is the main Melbourne newspaper so I think they have a special issue with all the results somewhere. Knowing me though I'll probably forget to attach the timing thing to my shoe. I should go do that now.

bah, somehow i didnt win lotto. again.
I'm not a fan of the people that won the Euro Millions - £161 million. They could spare a bit, I'm sure.
they must have stolen all my luck.
At least the 30 million prize here was shared by 24 different winners :)
If I won that much i'll give 61 mill to charity to make it a nice rounded figure... then buy a ferrari of some sort... :-)
The Ferrari team?
Ooooh so jealous of anyone who's going to see the Doctor Who theatre performance... Punchdrunk (the people who are putting it on) are totally amazing... I've been to their last 4 London productions and they are totally mindblowingly awesome...
If ever you wanted to get somebody into theatre then a Punchdrunk production is the one for them...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-14172300
Interactive theatre makes me nervous.
I don't like being involved in things, this is why I always buy seats up in the dress circle when I go to comedy shows. You can't pick up on me from up here, Dylan Moran! Ha!
blimey, after asking (okay, begging) for feedback about the app on the latest podcast(s), i might've been too busy to check them. just had chance, and there's loads!
thank you everyone for suggestions feedback etc. just going through all the international stores now.
i dropped one of the (open) safety pins I was pinning my race number on with and it really has disappeared. No doubt I'll find it the day I stand directly on it with bare feet.
Or sit at the back. :)
Love comedy gigs but there's no way I'd sit at the front.
in the final sign this race hates me I can't find my headphones anywhere and I can't run without music so I think I'll have to buy more on my way to the race :(
I went out and bought some bathroom scales because a lot of my tshirts are feeling quite tight lately.. So far I've chosen to believe it was the washing machine but the beer belly should probably go..
I celebrated this acheivement by buying a large cappuccino and carrot cake in Costa.
You might find them in the morning.
I've looked everywhere already though! Plus that would involve getting up earlier because I've left no time for that in my time budget :D
The last place I saw them was in the mall yesterday, thats a bad sign :(
crisis averted, I have borrowed some from flatmates. Possibly the only time I've ever been thankful to live with others. And now, bedtime :) Night all
Have fun with the running..
Hello folks.
So I installed Snow Leopard last night and all is well, but now when I scroll on the macbook it doesn't vroooom along, it just stops when I stop. I really liked that little style move, but now it's gone. Is that normal?
And I remain in allergy hell, for those keeping score.
Box of tissue count since Wednesday morning: 4. Now I'm into the tissues with lotion in them due to my sore little nose. :o(
We need to start the Sidepodwhipround to get you living over here!
sounds perfect (even though I'm not sure what a whipround is... hehe)
I thought I may have allergy issues over there with the different flora and fauna, but not at all. No trouble. Now I'm officially allergic to Connecticut. My nose wants to move, too. :)
And, for the record, it is my intent to move there. "For realz". Yay!
The idea being that we pass round a hat and all put 20p in :)
ooh
I'm all for it! And 20p is helpful. Anything at all is helpful. :D
Although everyone has already been so generous with time and effort and help and buying me soda water and lemon.
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

Try the preferences in Safari
Evening all
As continents go, this one ain't so big ;)
I'm in Chrome, but I haven't found that setting yet. I'll keep looking.
Oh yes, of course. Something in the trackpad gestures possibly
I'm looking in Mac system preferences now.
Google "Snow Leopard" gestures scrolling
I'm spending a lot of time on trying to find out why my trackpad doesn't do inertia / momentum scrolling after I installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3. No luck so far.
Is it just Chrome?
Let me see what I can find
mine doesn't have it?
No, it's in Safari and in Chrome. I can see that others have had some issues, but the fix isn't clear to me.
I had momentum scrolling with the macbook as it was - the way I bought it, now that I installed Snow Leopard it doesn't do it anymore.
It's not the end of the world if it can't be fixed, but as a preference it's not ideal.
Maybe: Smooth Scrolling in System Preferences, Appearance
ahh right, trackpad? i never use it. my mouse doesn't do intertia but trackpad will if i can reach it.
It's already checked. I saw one forum that said something about unistalling Snow Leopard. ?
Yeah, trackpad. I don't have a mouse. (although there is occasionally a mouse in my wall)
Well, the first rule is usually to install the latest updates. 10.6.8 is the most recent 'point' update
Then, there's also this, which may not be applicable to 10.6.3
As soon as I posted this I remembered that I forgot to install the Magic Trackpad and Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.0 (which, according to Apple, doesn't support Early '08 MBP's, but obviously does). Things are back to normal now.
You should be able to go straight to 10.6.8 with a combo update.
One sec
Obviously, update Time Machine back-up first
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Thanks. I checked Software Update before and I'm in the middle of a big download right now, so I'll let you know in about 3 hours (time left). :)
I think Software Update will bring from .3 > .4 > .5, etc

*opens app*
If true, it would seem a little silly on Coughlan's part to accept a job if contracted to someone else. Does bad news follow this guy around now?
I think it must do. It doesn't reflect well on Williams either, as they were keen to defend/hire him.
I missed this yesterday, from AUTOSPORT
Formula 1 teams discussing plans for in-season testing return
i hope frank checked his pockets before employing him.
 Ouch!
Um, was there an exclusivity clause in the MWP contract?
Well, if they are suing, it could mean yes
Sorry, MWR...
I'm not accusing him of not reading it properly (he did leak a car's design to Ferrari after all), but I'm thinking sour grapes from MWR. People can be bought out of these things, look at Newey!
doesn't sounds like his was bought out, sounds like he walked.
Well, of course. A lot of Technical roles like this have an enforced gardening leave clause too if going to another company
This looks cool, if if it is a distorted representation
Guitar strings oscillating when played
Eeeevening :D
Have to love the F1 teams, Todt mentioned testing and they were all against it but now they are suddenly for testing. ;)
Hi Alison, hi James
Oh I see how it is... Not even good enough for my own hello :P
I'm an equal opportunities greeter :D
Hello Alison!
hello Alison!
Hello James!
Hello jpan! :)
hehe
:D
I'm very restless today. Like I've had too much caffeine or something...
Hello all, today lukeh and i finally saw the senna movie. not gonna lie and say i didn't cry. what an amazing film tho! Very well made. Just wonderful.
*catches up with the times*
awesomeness. fav bit?
Hey Lou
Do you think I would like it?
Restricted by the weather?
Everyone will. Motorsport fans or not
I've sadly been at work for 11 hour. I want more weather that'll stop that I think!
I think so too.
it's impossible to choose. I adored the editing, the way they structured it was brilliant. Not like any documentary i've seen before. I learnt alot about the racing back then and it was so nice to get a different representation of everything (having read about many bits over and over again).
The way the covered that weekend was very well done too. Wonderful insite from mr watkins and everyone really.
I think i need to watch it again, although this time im definitely bringing tissues.. and not wearing makeup. I'm such a softy.
you'll love it! you don't have to be a Senna fan to appreciate it, just the smallest thing like seeing an onboard lap of monaco on the big screen was something special. treat it like a visual f1 history lesson ;)
What if I'm not that into history!!
Agreed on both counts
And getting behind the scenes into the driver's meetings was amazing.
i was expecting it to be very cheesy and things but it was tastefully done.
It's not a history lesson, it's a human story
There's less of "and in 1984, this happened" rather a tale of a talented young man from a deprived country
omg yes!! Lukeh noticed Eddie Jordan looking scarily young too! very funny but such an amazing insite. why don't they film them now?
It's a great human interest story, but not everyone will love it, I guess.
Supposedly the public release date here in Canada is Aug 11.. Awaiting with anticipation, and taking all the various reviews in stride. Being a Prost fan and a Senna non-fan (MSC senior?) I am thinking that given all the reviews and analysis, I may see a more human view of Senna, perhaps at the rightful expense of Belestre and the French faction..
have you seen the graham hill documentry?
Who says they don't? We just may not see it
Nopers.
there's a camera set up so they may do (meetings usually take place in the press room). it may be facing the wrong way though.
good point. i'll rephrase it.... why cant we see any footage there may be :)
Oh, I'd like to see that.
Lukeh was saying that he thought Jean-Marie Balestre came off worse than Prost does as the 'bad guy'.. personally i didn't feel it was too 'down' on Prost. Will be interested to see what you think though :)
Because it would take you a week or two to view all the footage.
If it was publically available, drivers would probably have to be sensitive to the sponsors. This isn't a good thing in such a briefing
oh. i was gonna say if you like that you'd like this.. erm... well i'd call Senna more of 'a man's story' even if you don't like racing i think people can get something from this film :)
Regardless of who comes off worst, I will certainly accept a truthful representation vs. a rewrite of history, which by all accounts Senna is NOT.
i feel like you know everything about the paddock mr c :)
You haven't seen it yet you're saying it's not truthful?
It needs to finally open in North America already! Geez.
i just like cameras ;)
whenever i ask where things happen during an f1 weekend you seem to know! it's like you've been there already!
No, I have not seen it, either in cinema or in otherwisely-obtanalble-methods. I did not mean to say that it is truthful, or not. just that my personal tainted view ay come off better for wear.
It will be worth seeing, then, to see what you think.
ohhh speaking of cameras i was delighted that even back in Senna's days i can still recognise photographers :)
Hellooo!
Any cameos by Joe?
ooh i wasn't looking for him.. have a look when you see it.
Sutton had a staring speaking part, and i caught glimpses of the wonderful Paul HC and one or both of the Schlegelmilch brothers i think. (heart) f1 togs :)
Yay for Senna discussion. It was quite brilliant, it truly is. I geniunely believe it's important for a Formula 1 fan to go and see it. Not because it has proof EJ was once young (wtf at that) but just because it's so... I still can't find an adjective to accurately sum it up. It's just so well done.
Incredibly hard to watch the crashes though. So so hard. And I won't deny that mantears may have emerged.
It's also very odd seeing ron dennis and adrian newey have hair. they don't have hair.
I could show you a photo or two that'd shock as well :)
My mind has been blown enough for one day :)
:o!
Considering the gap in time I'm impressed you managed to get so many! :)
i wonder if Sutton ever got his cup of tea that weekend :D
hehehehe.
#blame
sutilbalestereSteven would like that hash tag
best of both worlds :)
Evening folks - just staying for one
@ Lou - glad you enjoyed Senna.
@ Everyone -I may be doing a karting charity event later this year for charity. More details when I arrange them
evening Leigh
mum has just reminded me i have a daily post to write. goodness she is better at remembering than me!
Maybe you should set a recurring calendar note on your phone
Yay Sidepodmum :)
i can do that?.. will investigate.
How's the Mac updating going Kai? I should've explained combo updates, it saves a lot of hassle
When you're entering a new calendar entry on the HTC calendar thingymajiggy you can set it to remind you every week/month/day/ever :)
It says 2 hours left.
but, for what it's worth it does say 'downloading mac os update combined'. I have no idea what that means.
Eesh!
Well, if you want to let that run and install. Look at the link I gave you, afterwards. Should bring you right up to present day
Hmm, how big is the file?
Evening Lukeh
On train - will be more responsive later
Tortoises bring my interweb bandwith to me on their backs.

oooohhh!! too sensible. i've been doing this every week for a year or so.. you have thought i'd have remembered by now!
1.1GB
Thanks
That does sound Combo sized. Hopefully it'll do the trick then. Should only be minor fixes after that
cool
Luckily for you you have a mum who remembers on your behalf :)
You'd think ;)
Nothing wrong with a little technology nudge. My calendar is invaluable
ahh Eddie Izzard's latest comedy tour is on bbc four at 11:30. evening = made. not to finish/start the daily :)
i think my partial problem at the moment is i seem to always be a little unsure which day it is.
#imissuni
i didn't really think about it before. have now done that. :)
Was that the one that was on last Saturday? I missed the beginning though, so thanks
Looks like it may be
Can also watch now, here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00wyfvw [uk only, I'd imagine]
ohhh! i didn't realise that! it's on iplayer too! just noticed that. ah well i shall save my bandwidth and watch it tonight <3 Eddie Izzard :)
i've only ever had the opertunity to see bits of it and have wanted the dvd for ages! tonight i shall finally get to see it.. and for free! yippe! :)
Not a bad way to day to way end the day at all :D
I love how his act builds as it goes on. Seeing it from start to finish is the best.
i (heart) weekends.
Well, there goes my sense.
Hehehehe, have just read through Stuart's Daily. The man is a genius. :D
I meant to say that I loved it, too. That cartoon is hilarious. "oop, too slow!"..."yoink" :D
Evening from sunny Tundraland everyone. I went on two scuba dives today. The water temperature was 72 F 30 feet below the surface. And this was in a lake that is at least 30 feet deep!
Although, Giggles Radio could really be the cherry of this sundae of a weekend for me...
Hi Jordan. I wouldn't hold your breath [pun not intended]
I think he'll be pretty busy for the next 18 years or so.
RAM upgrade complete, Lion within 2 weeks and then I'll transfer over the essential files. I've decided to stick with a clean install instead of a full migration
Maybe the odd weekend at Grandmas but that may be used for sleep :D
have i missed the news Lewis is engaged? - https://twitter.com/#!/f1ladys/status/92355089469153280
From the Mail? Not saying it's untrue but I'll wait [not with baited breath]
He'll never escape her now! :)
Say whaaaat?!
yeah that was my reaction, was wondering if i'd missed an official announcement today.
Seems to be the only place reporting it. Odd.
I've heard that the Mail Online is a decent news reporter but true or not, it's connected to a terrible rag
Neither will we. :(
Considering it quotes her father, I'd be inclined to say it is probably true.
True story
I could quote her father, doesn't mean I'd be right
is Lewis mature enough to have a wife? Will he blame the team if they have an argument?
Probably because its an interview especially for the Mail.
oh, and Bassano, I found out that yes, Murdoch has newspapers here: The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post. The Post is a rag, but I didn't know he had the WSJ.
There was a thing in the news this week about the WSJ's previous owners expressing regret over selling it to him
That would make sense :)
Compared to, say, 'our sources say', though?
Doesn't that seem a weird place to break a story like that?
They could have least sold it to Hello or Whats Up or OK Then or whatever these magazines are called these days
"But Ron says I shouldn't do the dishes unless it's with Fairy and heat proof gloves"
hehe just saw it and wondered if it was true.. if it was i'd have put it in the daily. in this case i wont
:D
Best get the stewards to investigate this
Hi. Head in a slight daze, but 5 hours of Tour de France highlights might do that to you. :)
I opened my 750ml of Hoegaarden, very refreshing it is too.
yaay eddie izzard as i finish the daily! :)
i should have asked this a while ago, but does anyone have anything they would like me to mention in the daily?
but...but...but... it's only 11:30! :o
faily isn't finished yet... lol
daily! i mean daily..
:) :)
Mr Qwerty really did place those d and f's far too close to cause unfortunate typos like that
Eddie talking about the difference between a mac and a PC <3
Hand crank to reboot :D
*Sean Connery voice* "We're going to take over a Mars Bar factory"
i'm loving this so much!
'you can train a chicken to do jaz!'
Update is done. It brought me up to 10.6.8.
Momentum scrolling is back. :)
A few photos are much slower to preview as I work in Blogger, and some things seem slower overall, but it seems happy.
Evening Sidepodcasters, I am back from supper.

Night, Lukeh.
hehe! thank you eddie! yes Latin is a horrible language :D
My biggest problem with High School Latin was that it was all "Greek" to me.... :P
Fortuneately, I transferred to a Physics class instead....
