Yesterday was a relatively quiet news day, compared to those we have seen over the past few days. Things are slowing down momentarily, just before everything ramps up again for Brazil. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about:
- Trulli is going to test out a NASCAR drive, which he says is just for fun. Of course, this leads to epic speculation that he is on his way out, with Mr C announcing that if the Italian does make the jump, he might actually start watching the sport. Weird.
- We learnt yesterday that Massa would be waving the chequered flag at Brazil, his home race. That's going to be kinda tough for him, knowing how difficult the race was last year, and being frustrated that he can't be in the car this time round. However, he says it's an honour, and I'm sure he'll do a fab job.
- Alguersuari is preparing for the final Renault 3.5 series race towards the end of this month, but he is adament (again) that it isn't interfering in his Formula 1 participation. Why do people keep asking him about this? The man himself admits that the cars are different, but surely all racing is good racing, as you will always be learning?
That'll do it for now. The phrase thank god it's Friday has never been so apt as this week, however, things are looking much more positive now. Let us know what your plans are for the weekend, and if they are as exciting as ours (moving furniture). I will see you in the comments.
Please not another Thursday. the last one was bad enough.
Hello 9th! I have some #mfc -sh stuff
The mayor of Newark new jersey and talk show host Conan O'brien having an amusing argument via Youtube and network TV
http://www.movieline.com/2009/10/conan-vs-newark-nj.php
Morning all. I have itchy eyes. I hope I havent got something gross like conjunctivits :(
I had that, hope you dont go down with a viral bug like i did :(
You have to get better before you go home though!
exactly! Break is in 20 minutes and priceline is next door so i might go see what they have in the way of eye drops.
Probably lack of sleep. You could try getting some saline solution to wash them out with or if you are confident enough make your own. 0.5g of salt in a litre of water and stir it up. Make sure it is all dissolved then wash your eyes with it.
Alternatively, have a little nap under the desk.
hehe...priceline! thats a shop i had forgotten!
I once found one which was selling cigarettes, which was really odd.
Should be 5 grams not 0.5. It's 0.5%
I think the problem is i got a new cleanser and did a great job of getting it in my eyes, blatantly ignoring the keep away from eyes instruction because i was out of eye make up remover. Might buy some of that too while im there :)
hehe, can you even see!
i can see fine!
Well thats good!
Have you transcribed the latest aside?
Mrc might be sending you a little more work your way this morning/afternoon
i am almost finished, i shall finish that one and the new one on tuesday. Will fill in my 5 hours of flying.
i can see. i can see perfectly.
nearly done.
awesome!
I meant morning/afternoon in terms of timezones, i wasnt being cheeky!
i know. i have learnt, i don't half ask some rrrrubish questions. thank the lord for the comments!
Hehe, i wouldn't worry, you have a good rapport with joe so even if the questions aren't perfect you still get good answers ;)
'
Are you kidding? Anyway, Joe does a great job telling us about the paddock.
you'll have to listen. there's a clear line between well thought out comments from the wiki, and stuff i'm making up on the fly. the defining difference i think is my questions don't end with an actual question.
must work on that.
Ah, but that's one of the great things about SPC - it gives us a chance to be part of it all. I haven't been disappointed yet!
Hopefully there will be plenty more shows to do that on ;)
that's very cool. the answers as ever are wonderful.
ahh yes. do hope so. although, so long as joe keeps podcasting i'll be happy. mostly i'm just happy listening.
Mr C - any idea how many unique listeners you have?
(Pure curiosity)
he give a very unique perspective. Short of getting a regular out of one of the teams, he is the closest I think you would get to the action.
many thousands, is probably all i can say. there are lots of people out there keen to know, so i can't really say much more. soz.
Yeah, no worries, just thinking aloud.
the hours joe's put in this year are impressive. i didn't think we could do one for every race, but that's almost been the case.
It's fantastic, and I hope he has seen some kick-back with GP+ subscriptions (I can now smugly say) ;-)
:D
Look at the time man! Go to bed.
Its been really great, I get the impression from the podcasts that he enjoys doing them though and that really comes across with all the positive feedback.
I dont know hom many new subscribers he will pick up this time of year, but I am sure a big push before the start of the new season would be great!
me? nooo. nothing like recording a podcast introduction at 4am. good for the soul.
Well in that case I am going to bed.
It may be worth putting a line in the Aside post to say you are taking voicemails for Joe in future.
ahh, bugger. can you remind me during debrief? am already exporting.
Wh00t!!!
great, something to listen too during lunch is coming up :-)
greetings all from america,i feel bad for massa, the dude has a bad wreck and he is almost fatally wounded and now he waves the flag at his home race not being able to win his home race to you know make a big bang to make up for the accident. He has a lot of confidence to show up there I think. (There's strong then there's Army Strong,US Army ftw!!!!!!!!!!)
too many "o"s I typed I see, I need one more coffee
The catch is Massa is fine and can drive but he has to stay home in Brazil anyway
Hey! i think he is getting better, he is in Italy at the moment running tests on the simulator, in preperation for his test in the 2007 car next week
I know that but because of that and everyone knows but he ain't driving anyway
Ps:when did massa enter f1 was he part of old breed (when schumi and hakkinen were around)
rock has been purchased. Outside i could have bought a chicken! $8! Shall drop photo
Massa entered F1 in 2002, the year after Hakkinen retired.
Shumacher remained in F1 untill the end of 2006, he was team-mates with massa for his final season
what?
Alive?!
look forward to the pic ;)
i knew that just unsure whether it was 01 or 02 but thx anyway nick
Who is rock, and didn't you just buy a Kindle? Are you made of money?
* end "dad" rant*
Amy's Chicken
I really think you should have bought at least one!
Why were they selling them?
rock is now on drop too. Its a gift! I did also buy a lollipop for myself too though. Speaking of kindle, my case has been shipped. What good is the case without the object to go in it!
You are international shipping and you didnt go for the 'ship all items together' option!?
they sell lots of birds that law, quails and hens and stuff, for people who want to know their eggs are happy or something like that
you've bought a kindle?
Amy's Rock
i forgot the case in the original order and it wouldnt let me combine orders later :( good thing the dollar is so strong at the moment!
It would be fun to have one as a pet though?
i would probably get a chicken if i had a garden! Yes mr c i bought a kindle and i blame this website. Its all eurotrips fault, i need something to do on my 24 hour flight!
that's amazing. we demand a #mfc guest post from you when it arrives.
I think the reason I feel so sleepy at the moment is that nobody else here seems to get any sleep. I have to make up for everyone else!!
Funny. I was picturing a pet rock. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Rock
Morning all,
300 comments on Making Up The Numbers! I shall celebrate by eating a cupcake, as it is Friday ;)
Morning everyone
Morning one and all.
morning Christine
morning all. i'm sure steven has probably told you all about NASA crashing things into the moon in a few hours? Read. Watch it live on NasaTV in 2 hrs and 15 minutes. just when i have a meeting. grr. but it's my last meeting here. i finish on monday and then move to boston. finally ;)
afternoon
Into the moon, on purpose?
Yep. It's to search for water using the 5 year old boy approach of smash and discover (usually with precious items).
Sounds dangerous.
no more dangerous than letting a test driver race F1 cars without any experience.
definitely more expensive though :-)
:)
So thank goodness it's Friday!
I agree.
Any musical fans: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8297371.stm
I am so not impressed with this.
that sort of week huh? I've got a packing and cleaning weekend so it' not going to make much of a difference for me but I hope all of you enjoy your non-race weekend.
Hehe, us too!
because they should never have Hollowooded a sequel or because it's more rubbish? or both? Never saw the first one - not my sort of thing.
Tsk!
any hints? I'm guessing you guys moved by car though? But you've got more stuff than me, certainly more valuable things like podcasting equipment. my dodgy old laptop (where 7 and 8 stopped working this week, just like a Krusty calculator) will go back to work and then it's just music really and books that I have to ship.
I'm taking next week off. It feels like this week I've been simply packing this week and next weeks work into this week.
I don't believe he would go to Coney Island which puts the whole thing on shaky ground for me from the start.
Hints about? We're moving from one side of Rockall to the other.
The podcasting equipment is set up, and we have what we need to survive. Now we have to go back and sort out the other stuff and most dreaded of all, cleaning.
About moving I assumed. Good packing techniques and the like.
cleaning... boooo!
Exactly. I've only got about 5 boxes I think - need to go find some good tape to seal them shut and I've learnt to combine heavy things with light things in the same box and use clothes as padding. I think I'll cope but the italian postal system has a reputation of not delivering.
more chance for a stupidly charge ferris wheel on stage?
going on holidays or just slacking it from work?
I'm going to Paris on Monday. Then the rest of the week I'm working on rewriting the first draft of my novel.
Oh, god no. We just throw everything out.
morning. I am already in an impulsive mood today to the point where i reallywant an ipod touch...
Ooooh....
FIFA10 is gooood.
Nice approach :)
Rock Band is coming soon
Monkey island is goo... well it's quite fiddly but... goood.
Sounds intriguing...Good luck!
You are not making this choice easier! :P
I'm planning on getting an iphone once set up in the USA - anyone got a good reason why not to? I need my phone/music player/calendar in the one place and figure I'll conform to the masses.
The thing about the iPod Touch is that you then have access to a whole lot more stuff, rather than buying one game which is... one game. I don't wanna sway ya, just saying.
iPhone is great... Love everything about it.
yeah but you have one right? I want to find the reasons why people don't have them. but I'm struggling a little!
Very true... Myself I'd get an iPhone rather than a touch because the internet on the go is the greatest. But yes...
I think it's now only you who doesn't have one ;)
my current ipod is starting to get to its 8gb limit too so thats the major reason for me why im considering it. Plus apps, games and whatnot but then my mind slaps me for spending that much on one item randomly..
italy was the most expensive country to get one, and I knew i wasn't going to stay here for two years. well not after the iphone came out anyway. i did stay here for two years - just no iphone :(
but it's a good item ;)
I believe it's a good investment, but it is a lot of money.
1) I believe there still is no video cam feature (or I haven't really looked for it hard enough)
2) The battery could last a bit longer
3) If you do travel a lot and you like to save some $$$ by getting a local SIM card instead of roaming then iPhone may not be the right gadget
otherwise, not much wrong I must say
well, and I did not have to buy the iPhone, the carrier called me asking if I want one for free, surprisingly with no strings attached. so perfect :-)
thanks F1Wolf.
Can you give them my number?
I believe it would have to begin with +852 :-)
this sounds like my cue:
the trick to spending lots of money on something is to make the decision instantly, click buy NOW, ignore the voices in your head telling you its silly because I have never, NEVER regretted any of my purchases like that and I've made a lot in my time. I hope Kindle continues this trend :D
I don't have one because I don't like touch screen keyboards. Simple :D
At some point we will have to start a wiki page called: Ways in Which Mrs C and Amy are the Same Person.
:D
:D
just found out who got the nobel peace prize, shocked ...
I don't mean to sound funny, but what has he done for peace? What has he done as a President? It's too early to judge him yet...
Oooh.
President Obama. Is there a press release WHY?
best link
"for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples"
Yay! :D
More decluttering awaits me today. :)
exactly ... compare it with the Hong Kong guy who got the prize for physics this year, 30 years after the discovery of those digital imaging things. now he is old, suffering from Alzheimer, not able to deliver the speech ...
yah know, he's promised to withdraw all troops by 2011. I'd have thought they'd have waited to see if he was true to his word seeing as how politicians like to say things, but obviously I am wrong!
Shhhh, politics.
Obama for FIA prez!
oh yes thats right.
In other news, the Australian Dollar has reached a 25 year high against the Pound and I can't help but feel this is a great time to have purchased Spa tickets from Mr Bassano :D
F1 is not the only sport trying to combine with music: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8292894.stm
World Cup, they haz the Spice Girls!
Hehehe!
Amy, buy some foreign currency now if the rate is good - it won't last!
This is how I saved 25% on my student loan...
have to check how is HKD doing, 2010 OZ GP is getting near :-)
I still have $300 from my trip to Singapore last year that I haven't yet got around to converting back, 13 months later. Thats about the limit of my foreign currency dealings :D
I always have pounds and euros on hand... I also have 300 NZD as a gift that I cant exchange yet because of the rate...
1 Australian dollar = 7.00241035 Hong Kong dollars - wow, that is going to hurt, better than in 2208 but much worse than early this year ...
a man of the future ;)
well aware of that :-) but I did mean 2008 :-)
2 hours until impact on the moon
"My dream would be to race in Abu Dhabi, but the possibility is really, really low." - Felipe Massa - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79343
There is a video camera, in fact it was what I used to record this: http://goforodd.com/2009/09/challenge-1-the-race/
Hehe we talked about that yesterday :D
But if that is a recent photo, he looks in really good shape and I like how the laptop is in Ferrari colours :D
Will there be anything visible down here on earth, ie, should I bother going outside?
then it is only me who can't locate it :-)
Well, I'll be darned.
From bbcbreaking on Twitter:
hooray, I just bought some Euros.
It depends if you have the 3GS or not. It only arrived on that one.
What for? :-/
because the dollar is good and it never hurts to start putting money away for my trip in the currency I need :D
oh, OK, I have the 3G one
That makes sense, yeah. ;)
But where would you keep it?
Ah I'm travelling with a cash passport so all I have to do is store the little plastic credit card and I can top it up anytime between now and when I leave.
Morning all.
Would be nice if it strengthened against the pound a bit before the first advance cheque for book 2 turns up!
Morning Stu,
When will it be released?
Book 2? Pre-xmas 2010 or early 2011, I think. The wheels of book publishing grind slowly. Book 1 has been designed and I'm helping with the captions at the moment. It's out in March...
Ah bugger, I was going to ask for that car design book for my birthday (end of the month)!
impulse update.. I had a good think of the pros and cons, then checked my bank balance just in case. Pros won by a long way ;) yay ipod touch to play with when i get home!
Wooooohoo!
gadgets rule!
The Autosport subscribers are revolting!
I know most of you are too cool to subscribe to the paper addition of said publication, but if you do and are experiencing all manner of problems receiving it, I suggest popping along to this thread on the Autosport forum.
We're fed up with them doing nothing about what we perceive to be their fault, not Royal Mail's (who'd have thought eh?).
Yes. Into the moon on purpose. They are looking for water so the first bit that hits the moon will kick up a plume of dust and stuff 10km into the air and the next part flies through the dust and analyse its contents. Then the main part of the spacecraft is crashed into the moon.
It is on NASA TV now
I can't help but feel that if we throw stuff at the moon, the moon might throw stuff back. It can't be good karma.
The first part of the spacecraft to hit will create a crater 2 metres deep and 30 metres in diameter. Acording to NASA TV impacts of this nature occur naturally a few times a month. None of the space rocks that are causing these showed up when I was researching the sidepodspace show.
Don't be surprised when we find that this rocket we're throwing at the moon actually has Bruce on board.
I like that... I think we need to make some of those triangles for the back of cars saying, "Bruce on board".
If they are only causing an impact as deep as that how do they know that what they find isn't just from the last impact?
This is a minor little hit in moon terms. It is creating a crater within a much bigger crater
Bruce is going to be no use to anyone ever if that is the case
Boo to not being charged already *shakes fist*
The top several metres of the moon is dust from all th hits it has received over the years. In the analysis of the rock samples Apollo brought back showed water but NASA assumed they had been contaminated. There appears to be water in the dust layer so they are trying to find out how much water and other useful stuff is there without bring the samples into the atmosphere
I assume they charge when they ship?
I have another package waiting at the post office, I assume its my McLaren member kit for the year since I just renewed. I heart McLaren packages.
I worry about NASA sometimes. They didn't expect there to be a lot of interest in the presence of water on the moon. Stunned
If they didn't expect it, they should have been bigging it up!
Can we go and live on the moon then?
Not just yet but evebtually yes
How exciting!
I was a bit worried the journey to Mars would be too much for the pandas, but the moon is a bit closer.
Remember though there are rocks creating craters the size this thing will create several tines a month so wear a hard hat and a hi vis vest
It's only 3 days away
2.2 toones of metal is 2000 miles from the moon travelling at a mile a second. Gonna be a big bang
Big bang is probably the wrong phrase
:D
The people they show on NASA TV look like they're working out of someones basement. I expect NASA to be flashier.
We need to invent a really strong umbrella.
I think they only get to use the posh room for manned missions
I want to... no, NEED to see a hollywoodmfilm with this as the outcome to save the world
That would work
Ciao :)
Lonely Planet have just released 611 guidebooks in Kindle format. My travel planning just got easier because those books are HUGE.
Afternoon :)
That is way cool.
Could also help you avoid confiscation!
MASA TV feed just died
NASA not MASA
mines fine
Added giant umbrella to the inventions list
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Inventions
Refreshed and it came back
Hi Alison
Megablastic?
so how much longer until the moon explodes? :D
Hello Steeeeeven
Hi Alison!
If it explodes domeone has got their units very wrong.
Ciao
20 minutes ish to impact
Perfect.
The thing is surely if something hard hits into the moon it will heat it up won't it?
Moon fondo?
Are you sure it isn't the Swiss Space Program?
One of the real benefits of finding water apart from helping people live on the moon is that there is only one hydrogen atom between water and hydrogen peroxide so hairdressers won't have to ship peroxide up. and they use lots of peroxide in rocket fuel so if there is a lot of water they should be able to manufacture peroxide on the moon. Since the moon's gravity is one-sixth of the Earth's it takes a lot less fuel to launch from there.
Enjoy! I don't have one, but they look fab.
Dank, it IS the fault of the Royal Mail...
:D
One of the things I cut from the sidepodspace show was a conversation we had in the comments where we proved the moon landings were gaked because ase the lunar modules decended they used a rocket to slow them down and would melt the cheese creating a moon fondu
I drove past a picket on my way home. The were waving placards and everything.
I have two questions about life on the moon:
1) Is there a time difference or is it GMT?
2) Will we have to have daylight savings?
It's just like Carry On At Your Convenience, isn't it? "Right! Everybody out!"
You ask the best questions.
If we get there first the moon will run to sidepodtime
3) Do they have Finnish broadband Internet?
Is there a Greenwich on the moon to establish a Mean Time?
I think that level of intellect is at play
I'm sure you'll have to change your watch if you go to holiday on the other side of the moon!
They must have good communications but I am not sure to Finnish levels
Ooh, good point.
Given the size of the moon if it had 2 hours you would be permanently changing your watch if you went for a drive.
10 minutes to the first impact
They'd started a fire to stay warm and everything. I don't think I've ever seen a proper protest before.
My post is gonna be wacked for days. My local posties and sorting office are working normally but the regional sorting office is striking so nothing's getting sorted and sent out to my town.
Go/no go poll on the readiness to observe the impact??? Are they serious. There is no handbrake on this thing
Christine it's probably best that you don't look... but here are the shoes:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-295
Also it would appear that somebody on the drop has won the Swiss Lottery. I knew the Swiss were in on this thing!
But... they are ALLLL wonky. I didn't realise the severity of the situation.
I could live with it being the inner one left out, but the outer one?? What is she thinking?
Those are like, the exact replicate of my shoes. And how urorganised and messy i have mine at times too!
I know... I've tried... I think you're going to have to have words.
WHY ARE THEY LACED LIKE THAT? I'd have expected more from you Mr Andronov.
They aren't mine! They are Katherine's. I came here for help!
5 minutes till impact
everything I know about the moon I learned from Wallace (and Steven Roy)
Oh... they're katherines and not yours?
No, mine are not same same shoes. or the same laces style. Or the same messiness or anything, a simply proposterous idea!
What a warped view you must have
They're on a roll, clearly.
Hehehehe!
#sorryLukeh
I need a shower. I feel dirty just looking at them.
www.instantrimshot.com
Erm I'm not sure I want to look at that....
It's not whatever you think it is. It is a red button you have to push after reading Stuart's joke
I have NASA tv. Are we looking at a picture of the moon?
It keeps getting closer, it's kinda freaky.
Yes. The centre of the picture is where it is going to hit. We started off with the full moon and now we are very close
It has to do that to hit
See, they're not similar whatsoever
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/09102009233-jpg
I guess it hit
At least yours are laced in an acceptable fashion.
It's a bit dark.
It hasn't hit yet just the usual useless NASA TV commentary
I feel underwhelmed.
I see people clapping now.
LOS is loss of signal
High Five fail!
That guy left really quickly. He must be hungry or something.
They are supposed to show the dust plume going 10 km in the air. Well not air but whatever the lunar equivalent is. May take a lille while for them to sort them out.
My thoughts exactly.
He rejected a high five, then he just walked out. Clearly he was underwhelmed too.
Hmm I want them now.
I have no idea whether one or both have hit. I think both.
NASA TV is rubbish. I want to take it over and make it professional
Why can't they use better cameras? That was pants!
Yay, it's charged! Time to explore...
I have never ever used an iPod Touch/phone so this is like, a whole new world for me.
The problem for me is the commentators and the content. The level of information they supply is pathetic. They spend loads of time explaining the science and don't bother telling you whether one or both bits hit
i'm sure you will enjoy. :D
Keep us posted, please :)
you bought an itouch?
I did
You miss all the important purchases.
The one on the left has a mullet. Clearly he should not be on TV!
If the mothership has hit the info from its instruments should already have been sent back and should be instantly availble. None of this should take days to analyse.
was sleeping.
why are we on the moon?
They need to start with what is happening, then tell us why, then get to the science. And they need to do it all in a way I understand... which as you well know, Mr Roy, is not an easy job.
Apparently there is water there, which means we don't have to go all the way to Mars.
NASA just crashed two bits of the LCROSS spacecraft into it to look for water
They were advertising that they had pictures from Hubble and the 88 metre telescope in Hawaii and what do we get. Hopeless on board camera and no 10 km high plume of dust and stuff
the plume was the only reason I watched then all I ended up seeing was the moon getting closer and closer until it just went black. Boo.
Lukeh getting the ipod Touch has reminded me that I am in need of some new headphones for mine, anyone recommend any? :)
They say that anyone with a 10 inch telescope in their back yard would be able to see it so you think they would have managed to hook a TV camera on to one of the decent telescopes NASA has access to
This is why people think space is pointless - brilliant idea, successful mission and yet terrible media coverage and PR.
It's like having a Ferrari made of mud and paper and being told to drive it in the rain!
if it helps, i recall christine having the same problem with the economist magazine a couple of years ago. they put a "watch" on our local post office and everything because they couldn't believe a magazine could arrive so late.
sadly they couldn't fix the delays she unsubscribed. the uk doesn't do timely postal delivery. it doesn't matter who you are, or what you subscribe too.
i would like to point haymarket in the direction of http://www.zinio.com/ tough. am hoping to buy a 12mnth subs to racecarengineering this evening and it's all delieverd electronically.
Yes - Philips in-ear buds - cost about 30 euros, very good passive noise cancelling and range, sound great and really comfy!
My argument is that if they sort out NASA TV the rest will follow. That is their best sales tool and it is rubbish
*though, not tough.
I want to say CX300 onwards by Sennheiser but they're so fragile for me are Senheisers. That said, their inner ear headphones are utterly awesome/
Agreed. They should have wowed everyone with having a camera angle from the moon's surface or the probe or something...
I saw you spotted that. I'm sure I mentioned this to you aaaages ago.
Sennheisers are a waste of money - I bought some 'cans' - they never sounded right, were way too warm and broke within 3 months :(
I am tough on earphones, but the Philips ones lasted a year...
news to me. but i'd like to try it.
If a kid with a 10 inch telescope can see the plume it is going to look amazing on the Hawaii 88 metre telescope so put send TV pictures from there. They have Hubble. What more do they want. Half an hour after the hit we haven't seen a still picture yet.
Mm, it was about the time we were discussing subscribing to RCE :)
I've wanted to get something off there for ages, but there's nothing I really want yet. The UK store is a bit limited.
I've been using the ones that came with my ipod since I got it in April and they are starting to break.
In other words I'm not bothered by what I have ;)
now's your chance. x1 subscription to the geeky magazine pls x
Any recommended apps from anyone I should look out for?
monkey island, or are you there already?
Erm facebook, paper toss, Flight Control (paid), BrawnGP Racing (paid). ;)
Oh that's there. I might as well just shouted monkey island when I bought it
Tweetdeck, Remote, VLC remote, Real Racing, Slotz, Enigmo, Real Football 09, Google Earth, Sonic, GrooveMaker, Crazy Machine, Wikipedia...
There's monkey island for the iphone?? Now I'm sure jealous :(
it's very good :)
I'm still yet to try the PC version I downloaded on 'Talk like a Pirate Day'...
I see your handy work on the Autosport forum and I like it.
Doubt they'll respond to you directly though. They care for their customers' opinions.
It's the very first game but with lovely new graphics and voices and brought into the 21st century without losing it's *awesomeness*.
Hehehe it's amazing! I have it on my ancient mac in the attic.
anyone would think i had a grudge against paper...
...what has the printing press ever done for us?
Hah I'll need to bribe someone into letting me try it. I've probably forgotton how to do it all.
Talking about this is giving me the urge to yell "you are paper I am glue"
You fight like a dairy farmer...
:D
I have a grudge against e-paper already, because two of the three magazines I regularly read are not available in the Australian Kindle store but are available in the US. Booo publishers and copyright, booooo. Why don't people realise that a global marketplace is the only acceptable one for digital content.
Looks like the tide is turning!
Erm?
Christine,
With the precision of Swiss timing comes the first of the Brazil Preview quotes from BMW. Surprised?
Apart from the roads and the sanitation and.......
I am assuming from the silence that everyone was in awe of that moon collision thingy?
I think they forgot their telescopes...http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LCROSS/multimedia/gallery/Ames_campers.html
Link fail - http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LCROSS/multimedia/gallery/Ames_campers.html
Wait, Farmville is the most popular Facebook application? But it's pointless!
I canøt believe people would pay to have their flag in the game? How silly is that?
Even more popular than Mafia Wars?! Is that even possible?
I'm doing stuff on the wiki ;)
Not even slightly. I am choosing to ignore them until I need them :)
Stunned by the dullness of the coverage
Ooooh.
Had to run over the post office to send something off in sheer hope that the Royal Fail don't mess it up
Also provided my new gadget a nice little test run!
What, you didn't go to Greggs? ;)
...it's right next door to our post office. How on earth could I forget?! I should be ashamed.
Apparently. What's the point of Farmville anyway? I spent a month just clicking stuff - where's the game? What's the skill? Where's the penalty for doing it wrong? It's just a mindless click fest!
woohoo :)
although, i can't tell which suggestion that is in answer to? putting stuff on autosport.com?
That seems the more likely option.
Then you should ignore the McLaren ones too ;)
Done. :)
At the moment I have my head in the past, full of mini series.
Good point. I don't really mind how they put their magazine content online, just as long as it's done the same time as the paper version.
Then I will put my before/after pics up :)
Woohoo! If you weren't already top of my favourite list... :)
Can somebody link to something Safe for work, but funny?
Why were we not informed about this before? How are we supposed to get Bruce on the job if we don't know?
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20091008/twl-huge-asteroid-less-likely-to-hit-ear-3fd0ae9.html
How about this?
:D My colleagues won't get it though...
Ahh, I guess not. Whether he's safe for work is another story too.
This postal strike is, in effect, a very public suicide note. Anyone whose business model depends on the post is now urgently looking for other means of delivery. The Royal Mail just won't survive.
Subscriptions are an essential part of a magazine publisher's business, so it is probably being taken much more seriously than you may think...
18000 miles is very close though. We may need a bigger umbrella
I dunno about anyone else but I've had a few website inform me of the fact they're looking into alternate delivery methods
Perhaps it doesn't need to be a big umbrella, but we could all be issued with umbrellas made from... steel or something.
am so confused? i thought you were revolting?
Wohooo, I think I'm all settled down now with the iPod Touch. Still seems like a new world for me though, just very fun exploring everything and pressing stuff not knowing what the hell I've done, then realising, then making the same mistake and feeling like a silly.
Very very very cool though. Definitely don't regret my purchase :D
Yay. You must blog about your purchase very soon.
I think I may!
Woo, new blog to read! (hurry up ;) )
He has to use the Wordpress app on his iTouch to blog it tough ;)
Heheh, I like that! It takes a while to get used to typing on there though, doesn't it?
As I see it, I'm paying for a service to get specific information delivered to me on a Thursday. As this doesn't appear to be possible through the postal service, I'm left with no other option than to read it online instead.
I will be cancelling my paper subscription soon. As in this afternoon.
It does. for a while I was renaming myself to Llkeh or Lujeh or Kukeh with inputting stuff.
It does, but in some ways it's easier because the predictive spelling is quite good...
Well done sir!
got ya. i misread your comment, soz. i am with you all the way ;)
Cheaply. Amazon Plus delivery is fabulous. Often same day!
You are going to need to go to he gym a lot to hold up an umbrella with thousands of tons of rock travelling at insane speed coming towards you.
Donut update for Android due next week. Woo. :-)
Mr Alonso takes the Ask the Expert test - still no one has come close to Heikki's crown. I particularly like this question:
Q: Your former team mate Nelson Piquet is a leading light on the social networking site Twitter. Can you guess (to the nearest thousand) how many followers he currently has?
FA: No idea.
Hehe. He does need to get on twitter though but I don't Ferrari would let him.
My desk with before and after ;) http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/desk-jpg
Nice work!!
I totally heart those desks with so many little secret compartments.
I hope he gets a prize at the end of the year.
this week? do they not use royal mail?
DHL for Prime
Here you go, iPod Touch blog!
Thanks :D my desk is the only other thing in my room besides my bed, so it needs a lot of space.
Commented ;)
I heart Amazon + DHL, I am a bit of an obsessive when it comes to tracking packages and Amazon give so many updates!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/tracking-jpg
Cheers :D
I did see your comment earlier here but i kinda lost it... so that being there will be a big help
is it feasilble to deliver weekly magazine's that way?
That's exactly why I posted it ;)
Forix actually blows my mind. Too. much. information.
I can't wait to start using that :D
Yeah if you don't mind forking out £8 for each issue.
I imagine it to be what the inside of Steven or Journeyer's head must loko like.
*look
They must feed off it!
Wow!!
The inside of my head is not loko.
Haven't seen Forix in about ten years
Freudian slip :)
Afternoon peep
That's because you have a wifi link between your head and the central FORIX server ;)
Out in Acapulco?
i am not loko - not one bit. mind you, i dont know what the inside of my head looks life myself.
Yes... But how much would you like to pay?
Milkmen should deliver magazines to be honest.
Probably all juicy and squishy and brainy.
I'm telling you, it looks like Forix.
you still have milkmen?
funny thing is, i never subscribed to forix...
Is there not allowed to be a company that does the same thing as Royal Mail but better? Is it a government thing?
i think they already exist. you know, couriers...
You and Steven don't need it. It's the memory for the rest of us
Anyone can set up a company selling delivery of things. But letters is a monopoly.
Private Mail failed in NZ - but then the postal service was decent. It might work in the UK but then again, you might end up like the privatisation of the trains :(
I miss NZ mail. I still can't believe they don't deliver on Saturdays here.
I reckon this is what the inside of my head looks like
:D :D
Hehehehe!!
You have to wonder why milkmen never expanded into other products
:)
Me neither. I had a look before paywalls were invented. They had a section which showed the number of times the lead of a race changed and I was using the info to explain to people that we used to have overtaking. Believe it or not there were races in the 60sand 70s where the lead changed hands 20 plus times with no pit stops or dodgy weather involved
That's the very stupid thing: they allowed private companies to cherry-pick the profitable side of the business (parcels, etc) but didn't compel those companies to offer services that were unprofitable (letters).
Mind you, until competition came in the Royal Mail's courier service (Parcel Force) was risible. When Mrs C worked at Amazon they were nicknamed "Parcel Farce".
Looks about right :)
Afternoon peeps
yo
Hehe, afternoon.
I still won't use them, if you're not in when a deliver arrives it becomes such a hassle
Other couriers let you collect from a nearby depot
I said that 25 minutes ago and go no response ;)
Your all on my naughty step. ALLLL of you ;)
I believe you actually said "afternoon peep" and thus was speaking to only one person, and I assumed that person was not me ;)
hmm :)
how are we all?
great!
Wow, that was quick. Good man!
All... Ah I see this time I'm included ;)
I'm doing well.
Getting better though still hovering around 75% of expected parameters
Been thinking about getting one myself.
Please not another Thursday. the last one was bad enough. {Comment #2}
I like Thursday. For the next four weeks after this one, it'll be my mid-week day off!
Thursday is to Mid week like Katherine's shoes are to lacing up shoes properly.
OK guys, so what's everyone's thoughts on Kimi and Mclaren? Is it gonna happen?
Don't know if Mr C is around... Interesting article on WebKit:
http://www.quirksmode.org/blog/archives/2009/10/there_is_no_web.html
Is that like flat pack furniture you order on the internet? ;)
Yes, maybe not until the off-season
my thoughts are known by the ENTIRE WORLD :D
Don't look Bassano... It's all HTML!
Do it!!
That's what I was afraid of :D
Wow ... big changes to the live commenting page since my last visit!!! It just keeps getting better and better!
I'm looking forward to having some time off... probably not until February the way things are going.
Must have been absent that day...
Alex, have you tried, Click to Flash yet?
It's pretty much solved my issue with the lack of adblockers on Safari on Snowy
Hi Mel
Must've been a while then
Got a comment in moderation, haven't had that for a while
Oooh, let's see.
Ahh, on an old post.
perhaps you were asleep, anyone who was awake would have heard the news that KIMI IN A MCLAREN IS THE BEST THING EVER.
Ahem. Only caps can express that properly.
Tis approved now: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/09/07/theres-an-app-for-that/#comment-537859
They saw what was inside your head and were like "we need to be careful with this guy...." ;)
Yay :)
Sorry to be an annoyance!
Unfortunately, yes - things have been a bit hectic lately, and I haven't stopped in in a bit (although I had been toying with the friendfeed feed for a while). It's a bit of a quiet day in the office, so I had to check in!
hey mel. glad you likes it.
Welcome back! :)
*waves*
:)
Now I am up to snuff. I would have to agree with you. I like Kimi but I have a hard time backing Ferrari. Kimi in a silver car would be something I could get behind.
I haven't... Not yet, but it's on my list... I haven't used anything other than my iPhone at home for a few days since it was mentioned.
Well, welcome back! Just a few more Americans and we can take this place over! :D
i found exactly the same. which is why i dropped the mobile for version of sidepodcast for the time being. android webkit is significantly older than iphone webkit. to the point that half the stuff i tried didn't work at all on cupcake.
Google *waves*?
It just fits, hopefully this time he can have some reliability too
I'll do my part!
pah. so last week.
Were you a fan last time he was there? It was magical.
Agreed - would rather be pulling for Kimi in a Mclaren, although I'm getting worried about him getting a ride at all given how picky he's being about his pay ...
I'm trying! :)
Where you at Mel?
What State do you reside in Mel?
*Which
Just read this about the Brazilian GP:
Now popular hospital drama Casualty, which has traditionally aired on a Saturday since it began in 1986, will switch to Sunday on 18 October, directly against the live The X Factor results show, after the BBC cleared its early evening Saturday schedule to make way for coverage of the Brazilian grand prix.
Ahhh. I'm going to miss the apologising to Corrie viewers.
But making cupcakes is your personal fav.
Yes the iPhone is so far ahead you may as well make an app for it ;)
Translated quite well.
I'm afraid Kimi NOT in a ferrari might give my kids (5 and 7) a fit. They think he has the coolest name, and his car is the coolest color around! (to them, they just seem to love that red. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact I have several Lego Ferrari's)
Nebraska - go Big Red!
Stop it.
Yaay, confused Soap viewers
Compiling their complaint letters to the Daily Mail already
Love it!
So that means Casualty goes on after the race on Sunday? After all, the BBC would need the same timespot on both days...
SidepodMap?
Afternon everyone, i am back properly! how are you all..
Reading between the lines i think Kimi to McLaren is a done deal.
Like when they annonced Lewis they probably want to wait untill after the season to get extra publicity when previously they would have gotten none, despite the fact everyone knows whats happeneing
Casualty is the latest... um Casualty.
well, the two are so different we make as well produce apps for both... was the conclusion.
html certainly wasn't a quick fix.
I'm loving all of the Lego ferrari F1 sets (and have several) - like the one I saw the other day with the trailer truck!
good afternoon...
:D I wonder how Christine keeps Mr C from being distracted...
oops ;)
bonjour. :D
Hehehe, I am in Connecticut but I am originally a Texan. I had the pleasure of watching a few Nebraska games at my alma mater. I say Nebraska games because Baylor never showed up!
I'm in Virginia. Go Hokies! (sorry, just had to say that)
Ricky Bobby's favourite? http://i.ytimg.com/vi/ONtKjljX8KI/0.jpg
I can imagine some being 'After 20 years of Casualty, I did not expect the show to become undeniably bland. It is an outrage. And why does it take so long for medics to arrive on the episode, they were awfully slow.'
Hi everybody
#MFC - Kindle costs even more than we thought.
http://paidcontent.co.uk/article/419-using-the-international-kindle-could-rack-up-fees/
Inadequately? ;)
Lego Ferrari... YES... :D
I have the F430, and their 1/24 F1 set, I still want to get the BIG F1 Ferrari they do, but that ones pretty hard to find (and quite expensive. Most lego money goes to the really expensive star wars sets :) )
that picture is deceiving, I can't even get the Economist!
Soo many android phones coming out in the next 8 months... best hold onto the iphone to show to people when they forget what it was :P
Hehehe.
My wife found the big expert set and gave it to me for a birthday (or father's day) a few years back - totally cool!
I have the first-run Ferrari F1 1/12 set. :D Made out of awesome Technic bricks too, unlike the 1/10 set which is now on System...
Can't believe it was five years ago already, actually!
you're all forgetting the sidepodtablet homepage. then live commenting will really kick off.
i'm betting that in 12 months... iPhone will still be #1 anyway - with Blackberry 2nd. All about the marketing...
I love it... and an awesome movie to boot (gotta love intersecting F1 with Nascar)!
not if you don't get the hompage done :P
I'm planning on ordering more bricks to make some more cars, Brawns, Mclarens, and Red Bulls, specifically. Just need to get around to ordering them.
BFF has an Android phone ;)
Can you code in... what's it now... Mono... That can certainly compile down to iPhone (that's what for example Sims is written in) and I guess you might be able to make a java runtme too...
http://mono-project.com/Main_Page
What about the Sidepodbooklet?
why on earth would i want to do that?
Android is in danger of encoutering the same problems as Windows with all the cross manufaturer products
Oh. MY. You MUST show us some pics when they're done. I'd go nuts. :O
Woah!! That sounds awesome.
Not that it's really harmed Windows all that much... Unless you mean Windows Mobile?
PS. for those writing webpages who have annoying html or css questions here is a kind of Stackoverflow clone but just for web:
http://doctype.com/
(stepping away - technical disaster at the office!)
The only one doing it is Dell, who apparently have realised that they dont know what they are doing and delayed the handset
It's not all that difficult actually. jpancoast just basically needs to order the same bricks that came with the Ferrari, albeit in different colors...
But the end-result would be mind-blowing...
Coffee on keyboard alert?
now that's intriguing. afternoon all ;)
Well I don't know... The theory as it was sold to me is that you can write once compile many. But of course in reality you will end up sacrificing so much to do it.
Yeah, and they're real simple builds. I just have to find and order the parts.
Nah - just had seven blade server chassis all just drop off the network at the same time ... not good, and customers are getting grumpy!
One of Window's issues (not mobile which is just as bad, I've heard) is all the different hardware that runs it. But I digress, this will descend into a Mac debate again which wasn't intended
I just discovered this Android phone in the US: http://now.sprint.com/android/moment/?id9=vanity:moment
Yay for keyboards!
The proper term for it is "WODE"
Write Once, Debug EVERYWHERE
;)
Fair enough, good to see you on the ball
:)
Ooooh. Slidy.
yay!
So 2006 ;)
didn't java promise that? how'd that work out...
objective-c for iphone / j2me for android. the iphone doesn't have the rollerblind functionality of android, but iphone does multitouch. may as well tailor to specifics methinks.
♥
Wait, Farmville is the most popular Facebook application? {Comment #319}
Is that why its load times are now so slow it times out when attempting to load on my computer? (YoVille has the same problem and is from the same developer, but Bejeweled Blitz doesn't).
If that's the case, I heart 2006.
Absolutely... I think it probably does make sense for games and so on... But not for the integrated kind of stuff you want.
One of LG's android handsets has one too! http://www.androidguys.com/2009/10/03/lg-shows-off-gw620-plenty-of-pictures-and-video-to-go-round/
oh, alex: I got your book on Friday! I already finished, I really enjoyed it :-)
Yay! I don't like that one so much but woohoo for keyboards!
Oh great. Thanks!
Did you have a favourite?
Nick, if I'm able tomorrow, where shall we meet for drinks?
As do I albeit for different reasons ;)
I am not sure... I am at a leaving party for someone near bricklane, but i will be heading waterloo way so anyway is good for me
my android handset has multitouch!
I can't chose one, I like the writing style and the changing stories of many of them (it reminds me to Asimov somehow...). My memory for the titles is close to zero, but I would say that the one of the voices in the head is surely in the top 5
Whadayaknow One of the motorola android handsets also has a keyboard! http://www.androidguys.com/2009/09/29/motorola-cliq-box-leaked/
They still make phones?
Ah. Ok. I can stop being excited about it now, then, because they are clearly not on the way out.
How do you spell Subsedise?
Subsidize.
Subsidies
Or Subsidise
Not in the UK
Google didn't know??
Good point. Silly American spelling. :D
We are a little 'Zed' averse here ;)
I can tell. :P
It does but i don't trust it :D
Americanised English can be seen as a bit lazy I suppose
Not lasy, then? :P
I see. I know we don't stick to the F1 topic anymore, but a spelling bee is pushing it!!
:)
It had a Z in it!!!
if google tells you 'ize' just 'ise' it and you're good to go :D
awesome! ta
Use Google.co.uk or a dictionary site
[Mac OS X has an inbuilt dictionary application]
it does, but the thesaurus is a joke.
Interesting:
Monaco GP Date Changed
Looking up the new date, it falls on Ascension Day weekend. It left me a bit surprised that the original date was NOT on Ascension Day weekend (as Monaco GPs are traditionally scheduled during that weekend).
oooh oooh I know that one...
B - E - E :)
Don't use that much, didn't realise
Spain & Monaco now back to back
Two-week gap to Turkey makes more sense
I'm confused... is the calendar correct or the paragraph?
As a result, there are now two-week gaps either side of the famous street race in the principality as opposed to a 3-week break after Barcelona and, more importantly, a 1-week separation until Istanbul
better. but still one too many races.
that's weird. some was using the wrong calendar to work it all out?
Which was the reason for the move. If (heaven forbid) Canada falls through, we'll have a 3-week break between Monaco and Turkey (which moves to June 6).
And ANOTHER 3-week break to Valencia (June 27).
man i'm going to love it there...
Shhh, Canada's not definite yet
We can gladly lose Valencia though
they can move anything they want as long as its not Spa or Monza :D
perhaps. BritsOnPole said that it's normally scheduled May 25-ish, but from what I remember, it's always based on Ascension Day weekend (the same weekend on which the Indy 500 is based).
Canada June 13
Valencia June 27
Two weeks
No GP on my birthday weekend this year now :(
Oh, you mean if Canada falls. I see
But if Canada falls through,
Turkey moves to June 6
Valencia June 27
Three weeks.
and this is how friday is always a holiday right and so free prac is on the thursday. although that's just a municipality holiday but one i thought was linked to ascension day somehow...
yup, that is correct.
not a bad stuff up then. step one - fix monaco and any other races fixed to a holiday. step two - add canada for a few weeks until the next draft comes out. step three - the rest ;)
did massa fall out with a pot of dynorod paint or something?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79343
he's more vibrant than brawngp.
:D
one of the few pictures of massa in his office? :D
Steven said the same thing. YOU LIE!
It is intresting though he looks different to this pic http://tweetphoto.com/rjqbau5e
Ahahahaha! No, really. :D
Noooooooooooooooooo :P
From JRobertsF1:
You can just imagine how that ended up there...
steven mentioned he saw that in autosport yesterday.
Really? Interesting...
I cant... I thought the survival cell was supposed to completly sealed and really tough?
Glock said it came in from above idn't he?
from yesterday's daily:
Sealed from impact, but not from flying debris...
Another late lunch beckons
evening :)
hi lou. ready for your pre-birthday weekend?
*ahem*
Hullo :)
eh?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Birthdays
:)
well... i think so. i have school open day tomorrow until 1pm, then painting a room in school that i'm decorating till 4pm. then... well i've no idea the details of what is happening but all i know is i'm sleeping over a friends and then going to london the next day... should be fun :) not planning anything special for my birthday though.
sounds good. you should not get stressed in your birthday ;-)
yeah, tbh i am just way to busy with loads of things to bother organising anything :D
ehehehe *makes mental note of Jon's Birthday next friday*
*ahem* thannnnk you :D
no idea if anyone has highlighted this before but looks like Darren Heath went to Abu Dhabi
http://www.darrenheath.com/portfolio.htm?year=2009&cat=1&sub=65
I'm in Greece for my birthday, must get some roaming data sorted with O2
yours is 3 days later, lou wins the weekend...
I'll ask you on Tuesday so you don't feel bad ;-)
hehee you get next weekend Jon ;)
October's a great month for birthdays
Without referring to the wiki there's at least 4
boooooo ;) yeyyyy
Yeah but this weekend is still my pre-birthday weekend :P
Join us in London on Sat for pre-birthday drinks Jon?
Nope, am in Reading this weekend am afraid ;) gutted
Guille, bring your umbrella
Access to a submarine may be advantageous
ouch. sightseeing, walking, nice pictures...
The heavens have been open most of the week unfortunately
at least I'll see the 'real' London...
If you want to do the area around Trafalgar Square and Picadilly on Saturday we can meet on The Strand, a pub called The Coal Hole. 7 ok?
ok. send me the address by e-mail
If you like wine, I can show you London's oldest wine bar, which is near
Will do
actually, I don't drink alcohol (old habit) :P
Awesome! It looks good, i like the turquoise asphult
Heres a map of the track
The eight photo reminds me of the track in China.
Done
With link to details of transport and maps
eighth even ;)
Wha?
O'm glad I'm sitting down! ;)
Ooh, it is similar
I'll text Janna to see if she wants to join us
ok, thanks
I'm guessing it is turn 7 looking at the ciruit digram, shouldn't be suprised though they are both Tilke circuits.
That's so yesterday ;)
I never drunk while I was a young(er), and now all alcoholic things taste too bitter for me in general (even wine). and the smell of alcohol doesn't help...
but I'm an 'social alcoholic', I get happy when everybody around me gets happy... :-)
We'll be fine then
:-)
Jon's life lesson #512.....
Your automatic door will close....even if your finger is in the way!!
where can i find life lessons 1 through 511? :P
ouch!
NASA FAIL
I still can't find a single picture of a plume of stuff being thrown up from the moon. I have found a story saying what a disappointment the whole thing was http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1218768/Nasa-bombs-Moon-creating-new-dimple--flash.html?ITO=1490&referrer=yahoo
BBC News brought it up during the headlines. Story coming up soon
in the recess of memorys i'd rather forget in my noggin :D
gah, i'm back off to school to do prefecty things for the teacher gambling raising money night thing they have on.. i'll be back (much) later...
See ya Lou
Full details of Franck viewing schedules

Nice to see the sportscar racing fraternity have an appreciation of history unlike F1.
http://www.americanlemans.com/index_news.php?n=13963
bye lou
NASA story on BBC News now
There's also an interesting article here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/jonathanamos/2009/10/did-the-moon-move-for-you.shtml
NASA's problem is that they didn't go up there with an Orange Drill
If they Qik Stream it, I'll gladly lend a hand
Excellent, my weekend plans lie in tatters.
I can make 7 but i will have to leave at about 8:45 tomorrow, sorry guys
We can start earlier
that would probably be better
The probelm is that they had one hit. If that hit didn't chuck up enough dust then the mission failed. If they had 6 or 7 hits or someone with an orage dril and a van with a good heater they can dig all over
I'm not sure how early I can be there but you can see if Guille or Janna can be there earlier
I would have liked to have seen them hit a flat bit because you are guaranteed dust and they could find out if there is water a metre or two down rather than trying to get it out of deep craters
Bruce would've done it in one hit
You are going to the moon mob-handed? How many orange drills do you have?
They tried a crater because it's not exposed to sunlight (or were trying to hit a spot not exposed to sunlight). They said they got good data, I guess we'll see.
it all depends on what I'm doing (and I don't know what I'm doing...). I can assure I'll be free by 7, and if I finish earlier I can go there
It only needs the one, it's that stunning!
Nick, as you're already in town I'll text tomorrow. Have afternoon errands to run first
They have some data but the data was supposed to be captured from a 10km high plume of dust that never happened so whatever calculations they were basing things on failed.
The crater had shown up as reflective and the temperature is permanently at -200C so they thought it was water. I assume they hit the crater wall too high up where logical the dust is thinner layer due to gravity
yeah sure thing, 7 is good or earlier, will take me about an hour to get in though...
I thought you were in town from the afternoon. I'll aim for 6
I was, but the thing i am going to is happening at 9 now instead of 2. :(
Sincei have to get an 11:30 train to get home in time to visit relatives the next day i am quite peeved.
Sao Paolo weather forecast is showng lots of rain at the moment
Hello all (I'm not here) I'll be in town in the afternoon, just let me know when you're in the pub & I'll be there. Not yet decided when I'll leave, need to check the train times in the morning.
Ok, will text when am en route
Evening.
#beernews They sell VB in Morrisons and I just opened one to try, I like it. I had no idea it was sold over here.
Saw this earlier. The Oxford English Dictionary shows spellings with a "z" although "s" is common usage. It was on an old episode of Morse where he got all uppity with someone for spelling with an "s".
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79348
For anyone that cares ;)
I wonder how many people now comment when they are not here?
Its been overhere a while at walkabouts, seen in sainsbutys once or twice... its just glorified fosters... :P
Ah cool, look forward to seeing you agian :)
Oops I read this "veteran commentator Ian Titchmarsh" as Alan Titchmarsh and was wondering why he would be judging ;)
Most american spellings are technicaly correct. Interestingly it was the brisith who modified the language a lot more than the americans
Lots I think. Anyway am really not here now as I need to tidy up before my friends come round for pink wine & pizza
Nah, much better
Move awaaaay from the Mac
I've heard many Australians say that they don't actually drink Fosters (which is fine, I don't either, I think it's terrible).
But my question is... what beer IS popular in Australia?
Really?I drink it over there, but its far from my favourite, in Aus they say it stands for 'Verry Bad' (& other names, not publishable here)
This is smoother. Reminds me of Kingfisher.
VB is owned by fosters and is made to pretty much the same recipe. It has a green label instead of a blue one. Its probably the most popular national beer, it comes from Victoria (Victoria Bitter)
Tooheys New is popular in NSW
XXXX (said four X) is popular in queensland
The best beer i found was called cascade and that comes from Tasmania.
I don't mind Carlton but in general always tried t find Guinness which is neither great nor prevalent in Oz
Did you try Tooheys Old?
They are quite territorial with their choice of beer

You have also described my weekend. And probably the following week.
any recommendation of places to visit in London?
*Hobbles in* hi all.
I could give you the obvious answers, but when I went down with the school I enjoyed a trip from Westminister to Greenwich by boat.
My week ended with my students running away from me and my practical- I was trying top explain how to model changes in the landscapes using Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network Model.
i can recommend an indoor exhibit to avoid?
with crochet?
Go for a walk in Hyde Park instead.
I understood none of the words in those sentances apart from "me" and "students"
F1 science museum? is still open?
Whenever I visit a new city/state/whatever, I go to ratebeer.com and checkout their "places" listings ;) :

No idea... even if it is it'll probably keep you busy for 10 minutes
I hope the weather is with me... My hostel is just in front of it :-)

Left a comment for James Allen:
"James, I've really enjoyed your blog since launch. Unfortunately it seems the recent changes have made it rather truncated in a lot of RSS readers. Is this intentional?
It seems to be designed to direct traffic to this page rather than read your opinions in the most convenient way to the reader
If that's the case, I fear it'll mean less people will choose to follow your blog"
good man. my guess is he's done it to stop automated systems ripping off his content.
Maybe so, it's fair that he gets to explain that and the readers understand
Mr C, if time allows around your moving schedule, yourself and Christine are more than welcome to meet us at The Coal Hole on The Strand between 6 & 7 tomorrow evening
Obviously, all are welcome
fanx you.
thanks for the recommendations. it will be a long and full weekend I hope :-)
BTW, should I get pounds or I can survive with euros?
Sebastien Loeb has been trying a GP2 car but it is not a prelude to him doing F1. oh no
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79350
You will need pounds. Many places will accept debit cards though
Euros aren't accepted anywhere
my debit card is not valid outside argentina :-( (or it is, for a hefty fee...)
so first thing in the morning will be to get to an exchange office
Get yourself a One-Day Travelcard if you'll be using public transport. Zones 1 & 2 only should cover you. Allows Bus, Underground & Train travel around the centre
was thinking on that. I just saw that the whole Saturday and Sunday are off-peak :D
i should hope not...he's rubbish
Rrrubbish, I think you mean ;)
:D :D ;)
To be fair, was his first time in a single seater in about a year.
He was closer than Badoer ;)
I think he is good. the problem is that he'll be rubbish just because he won't be able to master the tyres (they seem to be tricky).
Might be fun watching him get it sideways
It'll probably be something like that. I spoke to him about the blog late last year and he said he was already getting quite frustrated with people just sticking pingbacks to their own sites in his comments.
oh i know there are reasons, he was however better in the wet morning session...less grip and more sliding :D
he'll get there, non-slicks and wings people always struggle with the fast stuff
...he he more chance of teaching them that. Not sure what will happen when they get to the simulating annealing stochastic optimisation for designing protected area networks. If that did not make me feel lonely and unwanted the Internet broke!
At least he's going about it the right way, testing before going in.
haha yeah, thats true. but he gets to choose if he wants to F1-it, other havent....
But doesn't that come from linking to his articles?
I often need to cite an article to back up what I am trying to say...
Seriously we have to teach it, essentially I went to the cloakroom and the students literally run away in my absence - so you are not alone!
Dont they come in automatically when you link to his blog?
yeah, I suppose.
Welcome to the blogosphere
Forix rocks
I'm going to see Ron Dennis speak at the Oxford Union on Wednesday :D
It looks like a cross between Forix and Matrix
Will there be a translator?
:D
awful practice. we've stopped ours from pinging anyone but ourself.
some people use it purely for spamming and SEO purposes. especially if they're simply posting pages of links every single day.
how does that add to the conversation?
I was going to ask, surely he can turn it off?
It doesn't at all does it?
I'm going home. see you later
not that i can see, hence why we've disabled them. on paper it was a good idea, when blogging was new. probably run its course now though.
bye guille.
should be able to. i guess it's not obvious though?
Wordpress has a lot of hidden tips and tricks doesn't it?
they arent that hidden, under hte post your writing theres a "allow trackbacks and pingbacks" box you click
but they aren't obvious are they?
to me they are, because i know what im looking for and have stumbled across it many times but could see how you could miss it if you werent looking
But I am new to wordpress ... and have relied on you guys for help!
I would have thought that Mrs. and Mr. C would have tracked you down and physically forced you NOT to use wordpress :)
i can understand how you wouldnt know where they are, you dont have to scroll down that far to publish your post
It's better than blogger though!
hehe. christine's a fan, and i like wordpress.com. it's just the wordpress.org self-installs that are the bain of my life.
There's too many options on a page for my liking, but you get used to it!
they tried to make us use blogger for one of our assignments but i managed to convince them that wordpress was better :D
Wordpress is awesome as long as you are not trying to write a doohickey.
Hmmm, Conchiglie pasta with a tomato, chilli, garlic & tuna sauce
Yum!
That's all I ever code is doohickeys.
Well, them and whatchamacallits.
I'm thinking pizza. Or maybe I'll leave that for tomorrow. Hm.

I can't believe Golf and Rugby 7s are to join the Olympics
This isn't supposed to be a Professionals event
Grrrrrrr!
.
blimey, they agreed?
Rugby 7's is the best excuse to dress up in a silly costume and get drunk though! (Hang on, Golf might be too!)
From 2016 I think
I like both sports (Rugby 7's less so, why not just the full version then?). But yeah, I agree. But, maybe its a new way in which the Olympics are moving towards?
It should admit it is a professional event, at the moment virtually every athlete from a wealthy country is a professional, and poorer nations cant compete.
Then the likes of Chris Hoy prance around claiming to be great, when really it was the funding wot won it.
The Olympics have been ruined for ages anyway...
Commercialisation & economics are tuning the Olympics
*ruining
Rugby 7s is awesome, i was in Dubai for the world cup earlier this year which was a test event for the olympics, loads of matches, 2 tournements in 3 1/2 days, it was awesome
Perhaps your original comment was correct anyway ;)
Funding and professional aren't the same thing though
Whats the best software to use to convert 3gp files so i can use them in premiere?
I watched one of those events in Edinburgh on TV I think. Good fun. But football is like proper in the olympics, so why not Rugby as well?
waitwaitwaitwaitwatiwait....
Chris Hoy was good before the funding kicked in
Yeah, probably
Golf is hardly a great spectator sport to most
[sorry Golfers]
Only some of it.
I am a golfer*, and I agree.
* only technically. to the untrained eye, I am zig-zagging.
Because football isnt a such physicaly intense sport you can have matches 2 or even 3 times a week. Rugby on the other hand requires at least 6 days to recover, there wouldn't be time to do it all. because 7s matches are only 14 mins instead of 80 a lot more of them can be played
Another premiere fan! Yeesh
There are a few decent online converters
It's been too long since I converted media on a pc
I must admit I did like watching the athletes, the problem was that there's always a nagging doubt that they might be cheating, which is sad :(
That makes sense now. Disregard what I said then. Possibly worth it then.
Perhaps, but i expect he still had some funding, use of facilities and access to resources.
People from other countries would not have been offered that, so essentialy he has an unfair advantage, and thus it makes no sense for the olympics to remain amateur.
I could say the same about every single driver who never reaches GP2 level :P
but alas Sainsburys is calling ;)
Watch out for the Mint Chocolate Frijj
I'll rephrase that. It's been a long time, not long enough ;)
GP2 doesnt pretend to be something its not though.
As I see it, the Olympics would be fairer if they were more professional as they would allow athletes from poorer countries to get sponsorship to the same level that athletes from wealth nations get government support
Then the famous would be paid to appear instead of the most talented. It's already sold out enough thanks
Lovely pictures on the actual big pic today: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/10/autumn_scenes.html
Look away people who don't want the autumn to be here.
But sport isn't Socialist - it's a meritocracy...?
Too late - it's already winter in Denmark :(
Autumn is beautiful
*hides*
Awwwwwwwwwesome.
Gorgeous pics as always
Awwwwetumn?
Good point.
The difference is the drivers had to go out and find funding and sell themselves. Olympic athletes just need to reach a standard and decide they don't want to work for a living.
Time for more House, then maybe some True Blood
Photo of the World Cup 7s in dubai to make me feel warm again!
http://drop.io/hidden/fornhreotftdao/asset/c2FueTA1NjUtanBn
The first picture looks a lot like the Sydney dust storm pics
That's a bit harsh - Olympic athletes have to suffer for years with no money - it's only if they get to the top that they get help...
Hi Everyone
Mac or PC?
If PC I use SUPER.
Ah cheers, I downloaded somthing random, hasnt broken the computer yet!
i agree, if your good at something, and passionate about it, why do you have to do something you dont enjoy?
They have the choice whether or not to be athletes. If they want to spend their lives doing sport it should be up to them to finance and not the lottery
I disagree - a lot of sports seem to have no chance of getting any funding, so I'm glad that the lottery sponsors them. All athletes deserve the chance to do what they do professionally in order that they can concentrate on getting the best performance and not sponsorship money so they can afford to attend the events.
Why should lottery players finance th likes of Chris Hoy so that he can get a bunch of gold medals, a knighthood and go on to make a million? He wants to be a sportsman then he should finance it. Lottery money was supposed to be for good causes not financing sportsmen
Why though? whats the point in them being sponsered?
As i see it its just so they can go to competitions and beat countries who arent able to fund their athletes?
Would you still have this viewpoint if lottery money was used to get someone into F1?
Can I volunteer to get lottery money?
Why should normal working people finance someone who hasa chance of becoming a millionaire if he actually delivers. If a kid is a talented driver he is on his own but if he is lucky enough to be talented in an Olympic discipline he never needs to do a day's work in his life. That is too random for me
I still can’t find a single picture of a plume of stuff being thrown up from the moon. {Comment #636}
That's because (if BBC is anything to go by) NASA can't find a single picture of that kind either.
Moon 1 - NASA 0.
That's like saying "Why pay an F1 driver, it just makes it unfair for the small teams who can't afford him?"
me too, i like cycling, and running, and i can swim....will you all pay me £10,000 each to become a professional triathlete?
Conspiracy!
Good evening peeps
Isnt this lottery money that pays for it?
I can... urm... is photoshop an olympic sport yet?
No. To me if someone wants to be a sportsman they should finance that by raising sponsorship or by other means.
If it was you'd definitely get a medal :)
you mean yes then :P
Normal working people also like pulling for a national sports hero. Why not help them on the way? Pretty good value a fraction of a pound, when another fraction goes to charities and the whole thing can win you money.
:D
No, neither is Tetris :(
Why should normal working people waste money on a 14 million to 1 odds ticket?
Actually Moon 2 - NASA 0. Two parts of the spacecraft were impacted into the moon
It's simply not on.
That's a commercial decision. What I would be against is the lottery paying a racing driver
Hi Jackie
And that sort of attitude is why Britain fell behind in sports. How old fashioned!
Do you complain when UK athletes get beaten by those funded from USA, Australia or CHina?
what about paying FOR a racing driver?
Yes but who buys lottery tickets and pays a levy to allow Chris Hoy to get a knoghthood?
Not at all, F1 is a commercial sport. Teams make money and pay their drivers.
The olympis consider themselves to be above that, and instead of people being paid acording to their achivements, there is some crazy international fight to give your athletes an unfair advantage.
Its a bit like watching a race with drug cheats, you can say that guy didnt win because of his tallent, he won because of the drugs, Similairly all this funding means i look at winners and you can see its more to do with their national funding programme, than te fact he is naturaly quicker than the guy from micronesia
Hi Pat
You should be against the lottery, not what is done with the proceeds...
Give it a couple of years. They must be running out of sports soon.
I'm contemplating getting tiddly
That is their choice. If an athlete wants the lottery to finance their Olympic campaign they should buy a ticket
Evening Jackie. I'm watching old Grands Prix. Sigh, I wish we could have the eighties back!
I take this stance....
If you are of the opinion that spending £1 a week will make your life better....then a) give it to me, im a poor student, or b) if you insist on spending it on the lottery, then atleast let it get given to somebody who will use it to do something really great
awful practice. we’ve stopped ours from pinging anyone but ourself. {Comment #736}
I've got round it completely unintentionally - my blog software never supported trackbacks in the first place (it barely supports pinging in the first place...) and therefore can't put those annoying information-free comments in other people's material.
We will next year. Heavy cars. Turn the radio on too, lots of synths.
Rubbish. We fell behind because of lack of facilities and know how. I have no problem with the lottery financing sports facilities etc only to people being paid a salary.
No
When I finished my old job, one of the things they gave me was a video of F1 highlights.. I've not opened it, maybe tonight's the night
Same thing
Like someone who makes a podcast? :D
Why. The lottery may be 14 million to 1 but it is still the best chance most of us have of never having money problems
exactly like someone who makes a podcast ;)
Any special reason?
there is a donate button y'know
There is waaaaay more to like than money
Do it!! ;)
Nope, not been tiddly this year. is that a good enough reason?
I dont see why the olympics became about medal tables, the best solution would be to remove the idea of national representation and national anthems from the whole thing...
I agree. Let the lottery give it to the charities who were supposed to get it in the first place.
Dude, that's the same thing - you sponsor facilities and that makes the athletes better. You gotta give the atheletes some allowance so they can live normally - else they have to work full time and train. Not an ideal situation!
Any reason is a good reason :)
they do get some
Wait till you don't have any and say that
Why should they be able to train full time, not even an f1 driver is a full time athlete!
That's not true - they spend hours in the gym!
Intellectually I agree, emotionally not.. and that's the problem.
Also, what music would they play on the medal podium?
It's a full time proffession though, unless your name is Romain ;)
i shall
They can go and raise their own sponsorship like people in other sports do. If you are a 12 year old racing driver you have to raise your own money with no record behind you. If you are a lottery financed athlete you have enough history to raise the finance
And call it the MacDonalds Athletics League?
The difference is the drivers had to go out and find funding and sell themselves. Olympic athletes just need to reach a standard and decide they don’t want to work for a living. {Comment #801}
And, if it's anything like swimming, someone has to find funding and sell the athlete... ...which isn't a million miles from what happens in motorsport. The difference is that in Olympic sports, all the coaches know where to start looking and can have some confidence that there will be enough to fund their ambitions if they're good enough.
If Olympic sports were funded like motorsport, it would be virtually impossible for most of the athletes currently represented to get to Olympic standard and the sport would suffer. The dramatic improvement of the standard in F1 in the past ten years indicates that competitive standards in motorsport would also benefit from guaranteed standard-based funding.
What about best Olympic beard?
That shouldn't cost too much. Would better than Golf too!
Right, am gonna have to leave y'all, an early night and a film are calling
What'choo watching Jon?
Night
Bye Jon!
So, people, think the FIA are bad? I know worse.
Night Jon
Motor sport is like any other sport in that the best people don't necessarily make it.
To me the lottery should be funding community sports facilities etc and not financing individuals who are professional in all but name
Night Jon
Night
Speedway went badly?
I think they do that too, though maybe not enough
Does anyone have access to all the driver penalties last year?
Its about speedway. Local team in playoff match against Edinburgh. 93-93 after two legs. They have decided to put in 3 extra Golden Heats. Winner is the one with the most heat advantage basically. Which is the most ridiculous suggestion ever in the world as it favours the home team sooooo much. They managed to wreck a good match.
sorry RG
Actually Moon 2 – NASA 0. Two parts of the spacecraft were impacted into the moon {Comment #829}
I was thinking bouts rather than punches, but yes, I can see where "2" came from ;)
And I was going to do more on the Timo page, gah, they've wrecked me night.
#rantover
In that case, doesn't the flag in '69 make it 1 - 1?
Yes but who buys lottery tickets and pays a levy to allow Chris Hoy to get a knoghthood? {Comment #835}
I don't buy lottery tickets on the grounds of mathematical probability, so...
Incidentally Chris Hoy's mum has a royal honour (I think it's an MBE) for her charity work, which neatly dovetails into the lottery's other category of good causes...
Why. The lottery may be 14 million to 1 but it is still the best chance most of us have of never having money problems {Comment #850}
You're still 2.333 times more likely to die of a traffic accident (never mind other causes) than to win. That strikes me as dishonest on the part of the lottery designers (and of the government, which condones such behaviour because it effectively acts as an indirect stealth tax on people who don't calculate probabilities).
I think she got that the same day he got his
Intellectually I agree, emotionally not.. and that’s the problem.
Also, what music would they play on the medal podium? {Comment #865}
They played Queen on the podium of the World Swimming Championships, regardless of the winner's nationality. Quite why, out of all Queen's discography, they picked Who Wants To Live Forever remains a mystery, but the principal would apply.
Music is one of the few global languages known to mankind.
That sounds like a very weird choice of music
Maybe it was the track next to We Are The Champions and they skipped too far.
It's a little known fact that Michael Phelps is Immortal.
I agree with this!
That's quite a sombre song IMO.
It was perhaps a joke :-)
So nobody knows where I can get 2008 penalty stats?
They can go and raise their own sponsorship like people in other sports do. If you are a 12 year old racing driver you have to raise your own money with no record behind you. If you are a lottery financed athlete you have enough history to raise the finance {Comment #868}
Unless you happen to have an Olympic gold medal or are extremely lucky (being a home-grown Olympic-level talent isn't enough unless your country's delegation is small), you don't because sponsors aren't interested. The press might be, but only a very limited number of names stick beyond the closing ceremony, and unlike motorsport they don't have another 100 opportunities to make their name stickier before the next round of funding (there's very little money to be made in the levels below the Olympics). The probability of payback for sponsors is so much smaller for Olympic sports than motorsport, so sponsor allowances are bound to be much smaller.
If the Olympics are about showcasing the best sporting performances in the world, then there needs to be a proper mechanism for facilitating that - which at the moment is better preserved by the current system than a sponsorship-only one. There needs to be methods of expanding this to all countries rather than just the prosperous ones, but until the world market system is sorted out that is, pragmatically speaking, not going to happen.
I'm heading off for the night... see you tomorrow evening. Night!
byee
Bye lukeh.
Sorry saltire, not got a clue.
Night Lukeh
Night Lukeh
FORIX might have it...
Thanks RG
ah, oh yeah I could have a look
I was just having a look but I didn't see it... I always get lost around there though.
Sorry no, apart from FORIX like gavin says, or FIA website if they're still available.
FIA gets rid of them the following race, I have all this years but I wanted to look at last years
I only have this year's stats too - let me ask around for you...
thanks
It's not the easist site to navigate, don't really know why I bother subscribing
I have access to forix, but no idea how to look
Individual race results? .. life's too short. I could also wade through the back issues of grandprix plus but I think I'll pass
Motor sport is like any other sport in that the best people don’t necessarily make it. {Comment #877}
The effect in motor sport has reduced considerably since the decline of the pay driver, yet money remains a bigger barrier in motorsport than in other sports. The more secure funding is (from whatever ultimate source) the better a good athlete's chance of making it. This is why any sport relying on sponsorship alone is ultimately never going to reach its utmost potential.
To my mind, the government should be funding a lot of the work charities do centrally by providing better services (lots of charities only exist because of major deficiencies in government provision) rather than through a lottery.
I just googled it, as you do, and found a site called f1complete.com It has results for last year. Not looked too deep into it though. Might be worth a browse.
I looked at them, its a pretty labour intensive process to look for them
thanks, I may have a look
Does anyone have access to all the driver penalties last year? {Comment #883}
No, I don't. There was a point when I tried to track penalties but the task got overwhelming.
Ah well .. I have an excuse for not blogging :D
The difference is though in motorsport people are raising hundreds of thousands of pounds as opposed to 20 thousand in athletics, cycling etc. I refuse to believe that anyone who is effectively being paid a salary by the lottery cannot raise the sponsorship. To be that standard they have to have a list of national or international titles behind them. People raise that kind of money for club motor racing championships.
Pat, you around?
PAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The FIA media centre have an archive?
would be nice if someone here was acredited
News on ITV just showed a NASA picture of the 10km plume of dust. It has 3 white pixels. Not exactly spectacular
Sorry, I was on the phone
Yeah, that's what the been had earlier
*beeb had
Didnt nasa learn a long time ago that if they were going to the moon it was worth taking a camera capable of beaming back live pictures?
Check your twitter!
Like I said earlier, this is why people think space is a waste of time. What man in the street can relate to this?
I got retweeted by a tea API, but I'm not sure why that helps?
@tea_robot "RT @PatWotton (Patrick Wotton) ahh, there it is. tea helps."
I just sent you a tweet :)
I don't believe FORIX carries a list of penalties.
thanks for trying
iPod Touch advert immediately followed by PSP ad
One of those companies paid a lot for that. Sony running scared I think
hello again :)
Was it just for the races, or the whole weekend? You can go to each race classification page and penalties are noted underneath.
e.g. http://forix.autosport.com/gp.php?l=0&r=20080013&c=2&b=0&s=0
hi
Hi Lou :)
Hey Lou
Shouldn't think so..
hi lou
hello Lou
thanks Pat, never noticed that before. I wanted them all, the whole weekend, I'll see if I'm bored enough this weeken to wade through them
They are though
Not saying it's justified, just that they are
Is this NEW The IT Crowd?
Huh?
Thats a bit of a leap! PSP operates in a completely different gaming sphere to apple, its like sales of the wii have minimal impact on sales of PS3 and 360
The Wii is definitely hurting sales of the other two
nope, well i saw it in Aus over a year ago, i assume it has been shown here
How so?
iPod Touch sales do impact the PSP as the games are quite good, and you can watch movies and listen to music on the Touch.
A repeat I haven't seen then
You can do that on the PSP as well...
Dunno then?
In that people are buying Wii consoles and games and less of the other two
Plus 85,000 apps
I don't like iTunes and I don't like Memory Stick Pro. What are the other choices?
Were they advertising the PSP Go?
Dunno, it had a slide out joystick thingy
Supprisngly it isnt as much as you would expect. the sales of the other 2 have followed a similar path to the previous generations.
The market for the wii is far far bigger, but the people expected to buy the bigger consoles have done so as well as a wii
Itouch is a much more casual system, it probably makes as much money, but its a bit like films and tv shows, very different mediums
But did they consider the other two or did they just want the Wii?
Reading?
Ummm, so the Go?
Yes, I could read the SPC transcripts. But what bout the trees? Will someone think about the trees!!!
Sounds like it. Has no UMD slot. They obviously don't want to encourage current PSP owners to upgrade.
PSP Go uses micro memory stick
Other than that there is Android & Nintendo Ds
Exact same reason I ain't upgrading
And the price.
I just thought i'd come back to tell you all that i hate html.
That is all
They've reneged on that UMD conversion as well haven't they?
Has anyone else heard that the Wii is a GameCube with a fancy controller?
Yep, and that is what it is.
It is that exactly! I love it though!
They might be good little games, but i am yet to see a mini game i would actualy pay for.
I bought a ps3 game like that called fat princess and that type of gaming is really not for me.
They seem to all be glorified facebook aps,
Why? Any queries, you know the drill, "Ask SPC" ;)
It is, it was originaly intended to be an add on for the game cube but they decided to delay it and launch it as a new console
Worms, Zen Bound & Peggle
It is also a lot more fun.
That it?
I won't lie, the new range of PSP mini's aren't all brilliant, but compared to the amount you have...
despite not knowing much about football FIFA 10 on the iPhone is really good. And 6 quid. Expensive for a iPhone app but cheap for a console game.
According to "the internet" you can change the frame colour, but i've tried all i can and it wont work :(
Yeah, that really was silly, i only own a handfull of games and i am not even slightly tempted to upgrade!
There are loads of great games and apps worth paying for! Some are as good as proper console games for a tenth of the price!
I own a lot and I really don't want to upgrade.
That's 3 that I like and have paid for. Almost every other game I have is free
I'm not even a big gamer
They decided to go for better playabilty, than better tech specs. Perhaps the other two forgot that. They're trying to make up for it now though.
Someone on Kotaku said the other day that is a game is only worth 20 dollars or less when they sell it new, it isnt worth paying for.
I tend to agree, wipeout HD on the PSN is perhaps the only game i have seen which breaks that rule
Jon did you see the link from earlier for a website called doctype. Really neat community on HTML you can ask your question and expect a good answer pretty quickly (it was at about 2pm ish earlier for exact link)
How many free games does the DS or PSP have?
yeyyy, will have a look. thank you Proff
I like the idea of the big involving games on the other two. Just that I also like a drunken thrash on Mario & Sonic Olympics, or Mario Kart, with people who otherwise would never pick up a controller.
Possibly... the problem i see is, that console games are really expensive to release and probably less than 10% are good. If something is esesntialy free to release, there will be hundreds more games so less than 0.1% will be any good.
Then add in the limited capabilities of small games, it doesnt really appeal to gaming fans.
Much as a cheap american soap may have high drama, but it wont appeal to a film buff
If you buy a psp go you get GT free, but i take your point.
What do you have to lose if you try 10 games for the price of one?
There is the homebrew option, but then thats not allowed. So, yeah.
Are you playing with CSS, or just HTML?
Because they arent the same type of games. It might entertain me for a couple of mins, but a decent game should give you at least 30-50 hours of play, double that for a console
Its like giving me 10 tickets to watch F2 when all i want is an F1 ticket...
You can make beer with a PSP?
I want one!
html. am not clever enough to use css. but i'm done for the night :)
night all ;)
Haha. I think I've found out how to turn Bassano then.
The handheld's aren't competing with the consoles
I've had days of fun playing Worms
See ya Jon
Bye Jon
They did have live pictures - ish just no 10 km plume
Do did I. In 1995.
I think he means DS. There's some kind of memory card plugin you can get. But it's not legal. There was something similar for the SNES (which I've still got in a cupboard somewhere) where games could be loaded from floppy disks.
1st ep of True Blood reshowing on Ch4
I've played it before, just neve owned it
There's also Pole Position & Pac Man :)
iPod Touch & iPhone's biggest enemy is battery life
That is true..
But the psp has similar perfomance levels to a PS2. It has struggled a lot because people didnt know what to do with it (and piracy)
Now they seem to be aiming to use it as a platform interlinked with the console games, for example some of the cars won in GT PSP will be available to you in GT5 (arcade mode i think, but i am not sure)
Little big planet, Assasins creed are also brining out PSP games which will allow you to transfer skills/objects into the console games.
They are also doing the minis, i have no idea what they are about but good luck to them!
Hehe, I know what you mean :D
I am just trying to say they are different.
set to record on 4+1, thanks.
Totally, but the Touch WILL steal some PSP sales
Great series. BBL quality
Probably, but i think it is more of a rival to the DS.
HBO
DS will be third in the race
BBL?
He said 1995 not 1985 ;)
Before the correction, I was wondering why he thought British Basketball League had produced quality.
There's probably Pong too :)
I think its way ahead of the PSP at the moment. PSP is already 4? years old so i expect it will do another 2 before they replace it with a newer model, possibly a phone?
Isn't the 'Go' a replacement or is it like the skinny PS2
Its the same hardware, it just has internal storage and no UMD drive.
There have been 3 different psp variants before this one, all getting slimmer and better battery life.
Interestingly they are still marketing the PSP-3000 alongside the Go so its meant to be a 'premium' variant i think
Ah ok
It also allows you to connect a ps3 contoller to it and use it on a tv with video out which is pretty cool.
I'm happy with my iPod Nano with Tetris, Sudoku, Yahtzee etc.
It has been an interesting Debate. Sony did a lot wrong with the PSP, they had no real plan and probably got distracted when the PS3 did so badly for a year.
The success of The DS probably didnt help either, and i think that might have been what prompted apple to focus it as a gaming device.
It could be quite interesting though to see what happens now, augmenting console games could be quite interesting, but i am not convinced
And Space Invaders.

Qualifying is at 3:35pm Pacific / 11:35pm UK tonight for 20 minutes.
The race is at 2:45pm Pacific tomorrow which is 10:45pm UK
The race lasts for four hours.
I think Sony got it right with the PS1 and PS2, but were behind with the PSP and PS3. Microsoft and Nintendo came out earlier and beat them.
Just realised that quali is in 4 minutes
Peugeot have not entered this race.
quali stream

Pat,
Have you done your weekend preview yet? What time is the Indy race on?
Thank you Steven
They aren't appearing in the practice timesheets
No 'cos I was talking to you!
Don't blame me!
Customers & Developers convinced Apple to market the Touch as a gamong device
Is Rob racing?
:-)
I spent way too long catching up on comments
Just pulled up live timing and they are not there

When Peugeot announced that they were doing Petit they said that they were doing Laguna as well
UK TV coverage starts at 10pm tomorrow, I'm not sure when green flag is.
That's what I thought they'd said, and I hadn't heard of a change of heart. I thought Audi might too.
I don't see him on the list but I only scanned it
19L45
No they've gone back to 2 drivers for the shorter race, Drayson and Cocker.
Ignore the last comment.
10:45
Darn.
I shall be a neutral then.
I think 10.45 is the ALMS and 10.?? for IRL.
Sorry I thought you were talking ALMS. IRL I don't know
What's the name of the Non-North East Commentator? I remember him from CART when Zanardi & Montoya were winning Championships?
Not sure. Speed only list Hindhaugh
Jeremy Shaw?
I think you're right.
Just remembered it was nearly 10 years ago when Greg Moore died. I've never forgotten that. But not the exact date,
They said his name and someone else's. Shaw is ex-AUTOSPORT
All due to someone without a brain deciding to angle a wall the wrong way
He would run rings around Legard.
I wonder how much damage deFerran has done to his car
He shouldn't have been driving though with a hand injury.
Jackie Stewart did his best drive ever wearing a wrist brace. Drivers cope with injuries.
I wonder how far De Ferran would have gone in F1 with the right breaks.
I read in Autosport that he had an F1 test lined up years ago but got injured getting ready to drive the car? So long ago though, could have got it wrong.
He was certainly good enough to be tested by F1 teams. I don't remember any particular stories but he went through the Stewart stircase of talent so he would not have been short of contacts in F1. The problem they had is that Stewart produced so many good drivers in a short spell who were F1 standard that a lot of them like deFerran, Franchitti etc just never got a chance and Magnussen got plenty of chances and blew them.
stewart was never as fast as the competition..luck played into his hands, he was always in the best piece of machinery
The BRM in 1965 when he won his first race with a world champion as his team mate was not the best car. It was nowhere close to the Lotus.
In 1968 when he won at the Nurburgring by four minutes in the fog and rain with his wrist in a splint the car had very little to do with the result.
Jackie Stewart not fast? You cannot be serious.
