Apparently today is the Day of Finnish Literature in Finland, of course, which should make Amy very happy. Perhaps we should challenge her to read a Finnish book or something. Anyway, we are busy moving house (again) but here are some of the things we're talking about:

  • Another Aside with Joe show went up in the early hours of the morning yesterday, as Mr C somehow finds it easier to edit when his eyes are being held open by matchsticks. It's a good one, although I do say that about most of them, with lots of questions answered from the comments.
  • We are all still wondering what on earth is going on with Nico Rosberg and his helmet, and who thought it was a good idea to spam Twitter with such nonsense. We have celebrated the story over on F1 Big Picture today.
  • Sebastien Loeb has had a go in a GP2 car but he says it is not a warm up for a transition to Formula 1, despite the fact he wants it to be. He would like to have a go in the car for Abu Dhabi, but says that nothing has changed and there are no plans for that to happen.

That's all for now, I reckon. Let us know if there is news throughout the day that we miss. We'll do our best to stay in contact throughout the day. Also, remember to let us know what you're up to, because we're nosy like that. I'll see you in the comments.

I'm quite frustrated by this. I'm staying sane because I'm getting my keys at 11!

I thought that was illegal. I thought there was a rule about minimum time between finishing and starting again. Maybe that was just factories.

  • Alison09/10/2009 at 23:25

What kind of hours are you working?

I've got 59 hours on the rota this week little erm nasty people. I've got a big project to do. Not enough hours in the day to get it done.

It's very strict if you're under 18. Not so much when you're not. I'm lucky enough to be opted out of the working time directive ;)

  • Steven Roy09/10/2009 at 23:27

Silvio Berlusconi has described himself as the most persecuted person "in the entire history of the world".

I went on one of those motion simulators and it did a futuristic rollercoaster. Very cool!

  • Pat W09/10/2009 at 23:27

I thought 48 hours was the maximum allowed in a week?

    You can sign a waiver.

  • Alison09/10/2009 at 23:28

    59 isn't too bad

I'll do more than that though. I had 12 on the rota today and I've had to do 15.5 I'm pretty much in dawn till dusk.

  • Paul09/10/2009 at 23:28

Hehe, he could fit right into fq with quotes like these

In an impassioned statement, he then mistakenly told reporters he had spent millions of euros on "judges", before correcting himself to say "lawyers".

I manage a shop. Nothing glamourous. I just have a lot of promotional stuff need doing. I'm leaving my shop in about 3 weeks though and a trainee's getting it so I have a lot of stuff to prepare for them too.

I thought EU decided it should be 11 minimum

That's the one I heard about.

  • RG09/10/2009 at 23:34

Realised I've done nothing but complain tonight. So Saturday will be a productive day. And that starts with catching up on podcasts and playing on FIFA10 till about 3am. So lotsa love and bye.

  • Alison09/10/2009 at 23:34

Never heard of a rule like that

They decided you shouldn't be able to work shifts like I'm doing basically. That you should have a minimum of 11 hours between one shift ending and the next one beginning.

    Stop you getting all exploited.

  • Alison09/10/2009 at 23:35

I work, then forget about it, but it gets interrupted with work the following day. Grrrrrr

    That's a sort-of Work-Life balance?

Rule is you work to live not live to work.

Night Pat, is it a big catchup? I'm sort of caught up.

I'm not gone yet, was talking to RG!

I am a looong way behind, so whatever I can fit in, I will.

  • Bassano Clapper09/10/2009 at 23:45

No but *opens link* I see names I like.

Is good, I get a weekly email from them

  • Steven Roy09/10/2009 at 23:45

Might be better to email that to Christine, they might miss it otherwise

Normally he picks them up but given how busy they are e-mail is not a bad idea

  • Pat W09/10/2009 at 23:45

I work, then forget about it, but it gets interrupted with work the following day. Grrrrrr

I'm like that. Switch off from work as soon as I'm down the road. Feels like two days in one.

  • Alison09/10/2009 at 23:46

Do you get to catch up with Amy?

I'm not sure at all. I think I might go to the Melbourne GP. If not, I probably won't be in Oz. Getting across is pretty expensive.....

yes they are. yes sony will respond (unless they learned nothing from the walkman).

    i think it has merit.

    Dilbert is GREAT!

  • Nick09/10/2009 at 23:54

yes they are. yes sony will respond (unless they learned nothing from the walkman).

    Aha, bassano argued the same

From my perspective they aren't, the itouch is much closer to the DS.

Sony appear to be driving the system more towards integration with the PS3, although they have started developing an app store

  • Bassano Clapper09/10/2009 at 23:54

oooo. my faves - the Cure

Yes they are, yes sony should respond, except they learned nothing from the walkman

Hello Mr C. I heart this website most days I see my company in the daily strip but the one for 9th October is so right

I have worked for at least three companies where the lifers were convinced that someone inside their company was writing Dilbert

  • me09/10/2009 at 23:55

Hopefully, it will drive the price of games down and improve quality

at the moment, they're enabling IP owners to cash in on the 90's investments without creating anything original.

  • Janna09/10/2009 at 23:55

    Dilbert is GREAT!

I have a number of the strips up around my desk at work. My favourite is one where someone asks for the conference room & it's call "The Rectangle of Futility" and is just past "Where hope goes to die"

  • Paul09/10/2009 at 23:55

    Me too, which one?

Close to me, in the cupboard above Dover I think

  • startledbunny09/10/2009 at 23:56

    i think it has merit.

The PSP Go? They have missed a chance to get existing users upgrading by not allowing them to convert their old UMDs to upload to the Go.

  • Bassano Clapper09/10/2009 at 23:56

Close to me, in the cupboard above Dover I think

Great video, got banned I think

That reminds me of The Smoking Room

  • Paul09/10/2009 at 23:56

The PSP Go? They have missed a chance to get existing users upgrading by not allowing them to convert their old UMDs to upload to the Go.

Does the DS not have a part in all this?

  • Bassano Clapper09/10/2009 at 23:57

Does the DS not have a part in all this?

    No

  • Paul09/10/2009 at 23:57

Great video, got banned I think

It did? why? This is the original one.

  • Nick09/10/2009 at 23:57

The PSP Go? They have missed a chance to get existing users upgrading by not allowing them to convert their old UMDs to upload to the Go.

That was really bizzare. I think the problem is the only way they could have done it would be with boots in shops, and the gaming shops hate the idea of a download only system,

It was a bad decsion, i guess it might explin why they are continuing to market the PSP-3000

  • me09/10/2009 at 23:58

From my perspective they aren't, the itouch is much closer to the DS.

apple are going after sony's business at almost every level. i don't think they're that interested in nintendo. look at the bluray debate, basically sticking every finger up at sony and waving them repeatedly.

  • Nick09/10/2009 at 23:58

    No

It has to its the market leader!

(it also has 2 cameras on the DSi ;) )

  • Bassano Clapper09/10/2009 at 23:58

It did? why? This is the original one.

Encouraging kids to get in wardobes and jump off cliffs

Supported Blu-Ray but don't provide hardware for it yet

  • Paul09/10/2009 at 23:59

    Not for long

The DS is cheap - big advantage.

  • Bassano Clapper09/10/2009 at 23:59

  • me09/10/2009 at 23:59

they support soft downloads via the web. mac's don't play bluray.

  • me10/10/2009 at 00:00

The DS is cheap - big advantage.

it's really solid. i wouldn't give an itouch or a psp to a young child. it wouldn't last, but the ds would fair better.

it's really solid. i wouldn't give an itouch or a psp to a young child. it wouldn't last, but the ds would fair better.

Yeah it does depend on the market. I was going to say just that. I like the iphone platform but the little girls in the family want a DS

My Sister, my Niece, and my Mum all have a DS Lite. They would never have bought or been interested in a PSP or an iPod Touch. You can play Multiplayer games with only one copy of the game.

  • Paul10/10/2009 at 00:06

I don't think they release that information but I'll have a look

I dont think they want people to know. The raw numbers look good, I think the real numbers might show a different story

completely agree. nintendo are great at what they do.

i see the the battle on the high st. between apple and sony. i've factored microsoft out of that one. they've lost the mobile market, and they have a huge amount of work to do on the desktop.

i suspect apple might forget the desktop somehow. although alex appears to not need one anymore, so maybe to doesn't matter?

  • Nick10/10/2009 at 00:11

    And how many games?

Thats true, but it goes back to what i said earlier about % of worthwhile games.

In any case the fact i own so few PSP games points to a huge lack of quality on the system.

Only now they have started to do games which interact with the PS3 have i become interested again...

...and i cant find the thing!

  • Bassano Clapper10/10/2009 at 00:13

I really didn't get that bit

  • Nick10/10/2009 at 03:04

I cant really see any of the other teams not making it. Manor supposedly are financed though Virgin, USF1 have major backing who has gone on tv with the team, and noone seems worried about Campos because they are owned by a really rich guy. I think they will be there next year...

    Any reasons they wont?

Just to clarify over the conversation that was happening last night. I had only used my iPhone at home not any personal machines hence no chance to test that Flash thing Bassano was mentioning. I was still doing 90% of my commenting from my work desktop machine. So while I may do mobile commenting more than most. It wasn't 100% for 3 days. I just hadn't used any machine at home for 3 days.

  • Alex Andronov10/10/2009 at 07:47

Why? Because it's a crazy thing to have on such a small device?

But they have released it in the states though...

To be fair while it is crazy it is a cut down version with only certain things present.

  • Alex Andronov10/10/2009 at 07:56

I wonder if they push the platform too hard with this sort of application

I'm not sure... I mean this thing really isn't Photoshop at all but rather a neat way to be able to crop pictures you've taken on the camera, fix light and colour balance, etc. Things which are all really handy to do and can be great to have on the go. Cropping a picture before you send it on is pretty neat. A lot of people are not waiting to get back to their computer to upload to flickr and facebook anymore. So this is a handy app.

I wish it was 2pm here, I'd still have time to achieve something. All I have done today is do some planning for my trip and some transcribing, neither of which were on my list of things I actually have to do.

race will be at midnight, same as Singapore. It's Brazil thats the hardest usually, and being in NZ for it this year won't help, I don't think I'll make any of the practice sessions.

That's what a weekend is for - completely wrong priorities. as for planning the trip, when i lived in Oz I planned every overseas trip really carefully. since i've been here I've become notorious for booking my holidays on the work calendar and having no definitive plans until the day before. "Where you going Scott?". "Not sure".... but where you're coming from - think carefully and make sure you know how to get from the train station/airport to the accommodation - a part of the trip i sometimes forgot to plan ahead

  • Scott in Italy10/10/2009 at 12:08

still no race highlight video from the f1 people. but there is a trulli qualy video. link is here

I really, reallly don't want to travel with a pack because I don't want to be a "backpacker" but I'm thinking I will have to buy one because I don't fancy wheeling my suitcase any sort of distance. I'm trying to get places to stay that are close to stations but I might still have to walk 1-2 km and thats not far, but its too far for a suitcase.

  • Nick10/10/2009 at 12:20

If you dont want to get a backpack you could something like this http://www.surfstitch.com/images/catalog/live/imageLibrary/BTREXZBLKF1600L.jpg

I got one when i got fed up of my backpack. the whole bag opens in 2 halves which is really usefull, the whels are designed for roads and not airports which is also a bonus

a back pack *is* easier. I've done both methods. if you ever have to connect flights/trains etc - wheeling a suitcase is tough through lots of people - unless you don't care about their ankles in which case you'll be fine - although one sideways knock to the suitcase will knock it off the axis - take your suitcase out for a test drive and see how it handles to a sudden change of direction.

also be careful that sometimes the areas around train stations are not the best places, but they are the cheapest...

this suitcase you're thinking of, does it have wheels? if not, don't even think about it. if your suitcase has a pull out handle so you can wheel it easily, see how you'll lift it without that handle - they get broken sometimes.

  • Amy10/10/2009 at 12:22

I wheeled it from one end of the Melbourne CBD to the other with 20kg of stuff in it when I moved into my flat, and that was far enough for me :D I know I need a pack, I just need to find one I like :D

looks cool. did you ever fly with it Nick? My concern with all bags is the people that carry them - most of my handles are ripped off (the equiv of 3 laps around the world does that) and I know how to fix the retractable handle myself now. my tip for bag like this is find a brand where most of the wheel is covered with tough stuff so it can't be snapped off.

I think when I've done my big trips I have always taken a suitcase because I usually had to have clothes for different seasons. It's only the two week trips where I get away with a backpack. I recommend Berghaus - I've had one of their backpack for years but you're right - find one that works for you - go hang out near the backpack hostel and see what people have when they check in - if you're feeling sociable go and ask them what they like and don't like about that brand. it will be the best advice and they'll think of things that you'll never have thought of.

the advice I've got from all my backpacking friends is get one you can unzip rather than one you can only access from the top, because what you need is always at the bottom.

Yeah its realy tough. Flown with it several times still no damage.

It was pretty expensive but i have been though so many bags that i thought it would be cheaper to get a decent one.

stupid thieves, having anything stolen overseas would be my worst nightmare.

Totally agree with this concept. pay more and it's better in the long run.

Also - lots of straps on the outside (like mine has) can be ways for the bag to get caught on other things (I'm talking about what happens after you check it in). That being said, my backpack (gets checked in usually in the special luggage section - eg surfboards, skiis - has survived better than my suitcase.

I used one of these on my backpack when i was travelling though dodgy places in asia http://www.pacsafe.com/media/product/product_image/normal/1960_11_1567_11_1147_anti-theft.jpg

I didnt use it travelling in Aus or the US as i didnt want it to stand out, but its an option

  • Scott in Italy10/10/2009 at 12:35

stupid thieves, having anything stolen overseas would be my worst nightmare.

it does happen (hopefully won't). have two copies of things and don't leave your bag with people - backpackers have an honour code of not ripping off a fellow 'packer. sadly, they are more "like guidelines".

if you pay things online etc before you go - send yourself emails with pdfs of everything for each place. so you have an email like "Milano/Monza" etc that you can just go to an internet cafe and know where you have to be. Divide your money - never all in the one place. Buy those socks with little zip pockets and keep some cash in there. Write down the address of the NZ or australian or UK consulate too. hopefully you'll never need it but know what to do.

  • Scott in Italy10/10/2009 at 12:36

no, but i did hear about someone who had there straps slashed from behind them in India so i was always sure to use the waist belt too ;)

bag slashing also in ecuador, around quito. idea - put the important stuff at the bottom because thieves cannot get to it. so they just go straight for the bottom of the bag with a knife. check your travel advice sights about how not to let this happen.

    ciao.

    b) take on something that kills germs (eg. Alcohol)

    c) drink something that has been advertised as "Good for you".

Can't wait for the Indycar race tonight, Go Dario!!! this has all the makings of a tense thriller I just wish the season ended in Chicago where you are certain of an epic indycar race!

Im shaking with nerves for Dario! been a big fan since his duals with Montoya.

will they all three go flat out for the win or will it be a strategic race?

Yup. Depending on coverage of course. Not sure if there's much demand.

So how 'bout that local sports team huh?

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:24

    Hello Steven.

  • RG10/10/2009 at 21:27

I forgot about the official coverage. Stupid

I appear to have nothing better to do now, might as well watch it.

    Hi Steven anyways.

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 21:27

Dixon tries to get the point for most laps led.

He then only needs to finish second to win the title.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:36

Marco managed to crash out already?

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:37

    Is everyone on Mogadon tonight?

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 21:37

Marco managed to crash out already?

    Brake failure, without a crash!!

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:38

    Brake failure, without a crash!!

How can brakes fail that early in a race? Still at least he didn't take someone else out

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 21:39

How can brakes fail that early in a race? Still at least he didn't take someone else out

    .

Temparatures were sky-high. Retired out of precaution.

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 21:41

I forgot about the official coverage. Stupid

I'm on that too. Takes a lot of of system resources though.

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 21:41

    Any Ashley Judd sighting yet?

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:42

I'm on that too. Takes a lot of of system resources though.

I gave up on that and switched to atdhe. I had a little buffering there but closed a couple of tabs that should have been doing nothing and the feed is perfect now.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:42

    Any Ashley Judd sighting yet?

    Haven't noticed her

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 21:44

I am enjoying my new Core 2 Quad with 4 Gb memory.

Can't have too many tabs open.

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 21:44

I gave up on that and switched to atdhe. I had a little buffering there but closed a couple of tabs that should have been doing nothing and the feed is perfect now.

I've closed a few things and some of the extra 'pods' in the feed, seems to have cleared it. Live timing seemed to be a culprit.

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 21:47

Side by side racing, gotta love it!

  • RG10/10/2009 at 21:47

On the racecontrol it shows Dario is in 6th gear and Dixon and Briscoe are in 5th gear.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:53

I can't believe we have had 120 green laps

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:53

On the racecontrol it shows Dario is in 6th gear and Dixon and Briscoe are in 5th gear.

    Odd. Wonder why

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 21:54

I can't believe we have had 120 green laps

    crazy isn't it!

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:55

    crazy isn't it!

Hope it stays green all the way then Dario will win

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 21:57

Weird that the bonus point for most laps led is sooo important.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 21:58

Weird that the bonus point for most laps led is sooo important.

Seems off that they seem to be running Dixon's strategy against Briscoe rather than against Dario

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 21:59

Hope it stays green all the way then Dario will win

So if he stays where he is, it's Dario's 2nd?

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:00

So if he stays where he is, it's Dario's 2nd?

If Dixon finishes ahead of Dario he is champion. Dario has to beat him to win it

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 22:01

Seems off that they seem to be running Dixon's strategy against Briscoe rather than against Dario

Dixon's strategy seems to be: go flat out

and Dario is playing the milage card.

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 22:01

So if he stays where he is, it's Dario's 2nd?

If things stay as they are they would tie on points and Dixon would win the tiebreak.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:02

Dixon's strategy seems to be: go flat out

and Dario is playing the milage card.

There is no sense in Dixon attacking. If it stays green he loses and if there is a yellow Dario closes up to him anyway. The team should be telling Dixon to forget about Briscoe and that he is racing Dario.

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:03

Dixon's strategy seems to be: go flat out

and Dario is playing the milage card.

Ah I see why Steven hopes it stays green. With Dixon giving it the beans all the time, he'll have to come in sooner which I think would mean a splash and dash at the end? While Dario can look after his fuel, go a bit longer and leap frog him.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:03

If things stay as they are they would tie on points and Dixon would win the tiebreak.

So Dario had the lead at the start if the race?

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:03

    Dixon on!

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:04

    in*

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 22:04

    Briscoe and Dixon pit:

they need a yellow to get to the end.

    Go DARIO.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:04

Ah I see why Steven hopes it stays green. With Dixon giving it the beans all the time, he'll have to come in sooner which I think would mean a splash and dash at the end? While Dario can look after his fuel, go a bit longer and leap frog him.

Exactly. Dario is getting just over 50 laps to a tankful. The other two are getting just under 50 laps

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 22:05

Exactly. Dario is getting just over 50 laps to a tankful. The other two are getting just under 50 laps

Because Dixon is pushing Briscoe so much.

If he didn't do that, Briscoe could also be saving fuel.

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:05

Exactly. Dario is getting just over 50 laps to a tankful. The other two are getting just under 50 laps

    (Mr Burns-style) Excellent :D

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:06

What happened to Alison? I saw her say hi while I was trying to sort a feed but not since?

Let's se iff Giggles has had her headping installed.

    ALISON!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 22:06

So Dario had the lead at the start if the race?

    Err, can't remember.

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:06

T-minus 24 minutes to Bathurst start.

Oooh hahaha. I hadn't scrolled that far down.....

I have no idea how Giggles does it

  • Andy Taylor10/10/2009 at 22:12

Can you hear him over those Atlantic gales?

You may have missed my earlier comment - this white van thing means they're not fooling anyone.

  • Lukeh10/10/2009 at 22:12

It is a white van. I have sent him outside to unload it because the roaring was too loud.

I wondered why my drink was shaking

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:12

Surely Dario can't lose another championship with the same points as the leader

  • Christine10/10/2009 at 22:12

You may have missed my earlier comment - this white van thing means they're not fooling anyone.

There might be Milky Bars on Rockall, y'know.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:13

You may have missed my earlier comment - this white van thing means they're not fooling anyone.

I think it is really a white boat but they are calling it a van

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 22:18

25 to go, things look better and better for Dario.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)10/10/2009 at 22:19

25 to go, things look better and better for Dario.

    Where are we watching? Indycar.com?

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:19

I hadn't realised that Briscoe was so close on points that Dixon had to beat him. That explains the strategy

    I didn't know :s

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:20

Briscoe gets the bonus points for leading most laps.

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 22:21

Dixon needs to go all out now. Maximum attack.

  • Bassano Clapper10/10/2009 at 22:21

If Nick comments in The next 10 hours, he's no fun

    FYI

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 22:22

This race last year was held at night under the lights, looked great..

They are saying this could be the first IndyCar race without a caution.

  • Steven Roy10/10/2009 at 22:22

Dario is 22 seconds back. That is a big gap for a splash and dash

  • Bassano Clapper10/10/2009 at 22:22

    Hey all, btw

  • Andy Taylor10/10/2009 at 22:22

If Nick comments in The next 10 hours, he's no fun

I take it that he's on his way home but rather worse for wear?

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 22:22

Dario is 22 seconds back. That is a big gap for a splash and dash

Not big enough. could be lapped.

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:22

How ironic would it be if the caution was caused by Briscoe and Dixon getting together. The one thing they need works against them.

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 22:22

    Hey all, btw

    evening

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 22:23

Dario is 22 seconds back. That is a big gap for a splash and dash

Splash and dash costs a lap.

    Sorry fella, didn't realise

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 22:23

    Great strategy from Chip Ganassi.

  • Bassano Clapper10/10/2009 at 22:24

Apparently, it's the house party to end all ...

    10 to go, tension mounting.

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:24

I gained access to this previously unpublished race report from grandprix.com by accident...

    Tiger Rips the Opposition Apart

This race wasn't about the winner or the two other drivers present on the podium - it was about Lewis Hamilton's magnificent crash which caused a round of mighty applause at McLaren's brand new Brand Centre (the most complex and amazing in the paddock I should add) and in the garage down the pit lane where his mechanics were rolling on the floor with joy. All my British colleagues were simply ecstatic; we gave each other a hug and shed a tear of happiness while bits and pieces of Hamilton's beautiful car (perhaps the only beautiful car this year) were flying around in an orgasmic symphony of never-ending glory. It took a long time for this apparent heir of Ayrton Senna - or dare I say Jim Clark - to arrive on the scene and make huge impact on the sport. Formula 1 now has an authentic character, a brilliant outspoken racer we've all been longing for. Because even when Lewis was spinning into the barriers he was living his dream with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team and driving his heart out! Unlike the man with eyebrows, you know I'm talking about Fernando Alonso who once again had a wretched race in his rather ugly underperforming Renault. I mean we all know that Mercedes is the best engine on the grid so what can you expect from a Renault-powered car when a gorgeous McLaren is storming ahead. But this time Teflonso - as all Formula 1 journalists jokingly call the morbid Spaniard these days - was also thoroughly outpaced by Force India's new boy Tonio Liuzzi. I know Tonio finished behind Teflonso but it means nothing. Obviously, Liuzzi showed his fantastic ability behind the wheel of an F1 car (and not just any F1 car but one that uses unique McLaren technology) with unequalled aplomb. Many people keep asking me how do I rate Vettel? I don't rate him at all, he's German and doesn't wear gold lamé racing boots so that's enough for me to know. I'm not entirely convinced that Sebastian's got what it takes to win in modern F1, something which Liuzzi is perfectly capable of. And Tonio's such a larger-than-life character, you can't compare him to Teflonso, no way!

Talking about personality - I will cherish forever this private conversation I've had with Lewis right before the race.

"The team told me to say that I'm a bigger Formula 1 personality than Eddie Irvine, who I know was a cook here at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team," said Hamilton and his voice was trembling emotion. "But I feel terrible because I let Nicole down and still haven't learned the lyrics of her new song. I think it's called 'Joy Hui' or something."

Oh, my God! I nearly fainted. Here was the guy who, unlike Teflonso, doesn't care about money or fame; he's racing his heart out for the most honest F1 team on the grid lead by an archangel in the form of Martin Whitmarsh who normally levitates well above the ground in one of potent and clean McLaren factory buildings. Martin is Ron's disciple, needless to say Formula 1 misses Dennis, his truly unique style and ability to express himself with clarity. But he's now able to dedicate himself to his new passion and that is creating cheap and affordable supercars for sheikhs who suffer from global crisis. Such an altruist, what a man! I'd like to get a tattoo of Ron one of these days but I'd like Kat von D to do it so maybe I'll fly all the way to California to pay tribute to Ron and engrave his holy image on my belly!

    So back to race report.

Lewis blasted off in a typically well-judged and calculated style. At the back Liuzzi impressed by keeping his position and almost nailing Teflonso who was 10 places in front of him. I mean Teflonso brings the sport into disrepute only with his looks and stewards don't punish him for blocking Liuzzi? I don't know what to say, this is totally outrageous! Hopefully, the FIA will do the right thing by banning Teflonso and giving his seat back to frankly slow Nelson Piquet Jr. whom I nonetheless admire for honesty and his crusade against the monsters at Renault. But I'd rather watch a slow and honest Piquet than a fast and deceitful Teflonso. Lewis reckoned Vettel ruined his start by trying to distract him, what else can you expect from a guy who doesn't wear gold lamé racing boots? Will Vettel ever win something in Formula 1? I very much doubt it, Red Bull must urgently sack the useless German and replace him with Liuzzi whose massive talent is being wasted since 2004.

There was something going on during the race, other drivers were pretending to be Lewis and Tonio. But these two are so immensely talented that they manage to warm up their tyres by just looking at them. Something Teflonso can't work out.

After the pit stops Lewis was chasing hard the two blokes in front of him, whoever they were they didn't look as fast as Hamilton and Liuzzi, who had retired by then but was nevertheless very fast walking around paddock and displaying his shiny boots, which speaks volumes about his personality. Teflonso really has no style when it comes to racing boots, red and white? Come on!

While all this was happening, Hamilton put the pedal to the metal like only he and Tonio can do and on the last lap of the race produced what is now seen as one of the most majestic Formula 1 crashes of all times. There was celebration everywhere in the paddock, especially on McLaren pit wall. One thing I don't understand is why Norbert Haug felt the need to point out the exact location of Hamilton's crash: 3 kms and 21 metres from the finish line. Norbert was the only person on the planet not to congratulate Lewis on his magnificent crash. This is like bringing the sport into disprepute, the FIA must come down on the fat German and ban him for life but maybe banning Teflonso would be even better.

So the situation in the championship is clear now: they must strip current championship leader of his points and award them to Lewis and McLaren, whilst promoting Tonio to second in the drivers' standings seems like a reasonable thing to do.

And will somebody please ban Teflonso!

Sorry What is happening? Who will be champion?

Dixon and Brisoe need to pit for fuel. Fario doesn't. If it stays green Dario wins. 191 green laps

  • Scott Woodwiss10/10/2009 at 22:24

    Dixon in!!!!

  • Pat W10/10/2009 at 22:25

Sorry What is happening? Who will be champion?

Briscoe and Dixon are pushing like crazy but need to stop ASAP. Franchitti 3rd is saving fuel to the end of the race, he will likely win the title. Top 3 in points have been CONSIDERABLY faster than the rest of the field all race.

  • rowley10/10/2009 at 22:25

Dixon is out of the championship.

Good between Briscoe and DIxon. They ignored the rest fo the field apparently. (I'm on indycar.com leadercam anyway)

Not at all. Dario had no pace earlier so had to save fuel and the fact that there were no yellows worked for him. In reality there has been nothing between them all year
