It's turning out to be quite a difficult week at Sidepodcast HQ, as we stumble from one disaster to the next. That being the case, I would like all comments today to be happy and fluffy. Don't make me start going on about rolling meadows and whiskers on kittens and stuff like that. So, here are some of the things on our minds:
- Thank goodness for Alonso's move to Ferrari being confirmed already, as the driver market has finally opened up. Renault confirmed their new signing of Robert Kubica for 2010 yesterday, and I have a feeling it won't be long before we're looking at the next announcement as well. Is Kubica a good fit for Renault? Discuss on the breakout thread.
- Lukeh has written us a guest post with a great background into how and why he made the Ari Vatanen support video. You can read more about it there, and join in the calls for Lukeh to write some more. Particularly if it's about changing Formula 1 for the better!
- In the last little bit of self-promotion for today, I released the first of a new series of Forgotten F1 Teams yesterday. It's about time we had another mini series, and it seemed right to look back at some of the teams we have lost, as we are currently fighting off more teams than you can shake a stick at. Enjoy yesterday's show and stay tuned for today's.
That'll do it for now. It's Thursday which means we are almost at the end of the week, and that can only be a good thing. I'll see you in the comments.
Morning
Hi Aaron
EURGH sleep stupid body! If I don't get to sleep soon I'm gonna have to be up all night to stop myself sleeping through my alarm :(
What time is the alarm?
5
ow. i'm yawning now and I went to bed at 1.20am, got up at just before 8.. love my sleeep
Use several, works for me
Warm milk is a good sedative
I hate that feeling, you're guaranteed not to feel tired till 3am and then its ust about time to get up
although it is strange, I often feel more awake shortly before bed than in the previous couple of hours.
That sounds fun!
You shouldn't stay up though. Even those 2hrs help.
I've done it before. I'll wake up at 10am and have to run around like an idiot apologising to everyone....
hehe at last! i'm all finished editing photos that i took last saturday at Brands Hatch. it would be great if a few people would take the time to have a look at them and give me any feedback, baring in mind it was my first visit to a race track to take pics and things, so they probably aren't amazing or anything.
link - http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/sets/72157622414330159/
anyways :) thanks in advance ;).
Ooh wow Lou, the first couple I have opened are brilliant
Nice one Lou, will have a look in a bit and leave some constructive feedback
this one...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/3990840555/sizes/l/in/set-72157622414330159/
i heart
Superb! I had no idea the Dunlop logo was also in pink!
thanking you :)
Agreed
:) yay
Nooooo not another excuse to stay up. I'm really about to sleep. I've had a look at a couple and they're awesome lou. Remind me to look properly tomorrow night :)
Night all!
How'd you get then so in focus when they are moving
Night!!!
night Alison :) sleep well.
Night, sleep well
Night!
G'night Alison
The biggest problem i see with your photo's is...
Your behind a catch fence....
We need to blag you a media pass young lady
You can pan the camera... I think there must be a knack 'cos I can't do it.
Night
Night Alison
it's a technique called panning. you track the car as it arrouches through the lens, then take the photo while moving the camera with it... then continue moving just as you've taken the photo.. there are probably better explanations on the internet somewhere...
Love the B&W shots
Will do! :D
Maybe Joe could help?
heheh only for some of them, i was at druids for most of the afternoon which is a lovely spot to take pics from but yes the fence was mighty annoying :P
hehe
Not for a few days, ya have to be 18 to get behind the fence.
well... good job my birthday is on monday then isn't it :D
thanks :)
although that is a silly thing to say as your 18 next week, boo at me
:P
This http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/3991591790/in/set-72157622414330159/
And http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/3990831313/in/set-72157622414330159/
are my faves so far
hmm, i may be able to help you, but won't promise anything.
I love the one of the sinngle seater
i need much more practice so i don't mind ;)
and the sunshine car
(not here)
lou, your pics are stunning
(gone again)
If you can get different vantage point it'll help with fresh angles
More head on shots and odd juxtapositions
Interviewing racing drivers has its advantages...
I have a Sport Science assignment coming up on the psychological challenges of being a racing driver...
so what are some of the questions going to be? yup, you guessed it :)
GO! WALK OUT THE DOOR!
DONT TURN AROUND NOW! oh, you've gone
Was this lens envy? ;)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/3991599102/in/set-72157622414330159/
Great pics as usual Lou and a few unusual shots like the photographer with the camera over his shoulder and the marshal sweeping. The black and white pics were an unexpected surprise.
I like the last three. Not so much the last one but the other two where th car is sharp and the rest of the circuit is the backdrop.
Shoo
Me too
Lensvy...?
Wow they are really stunning, so many great pics there!
You need to go a couple more times then see if you can show your photos there to someone there and get a photographers pass for next summer. After you have got that you should be able to move swiftly on wards to other circuits in the uk, then other euro ones and eventually on to bigger events :D
I dont know all that much about photography although my cousin has a degree in it. The best advice i think i can give you looking at those is to experiment.
the cars are stunning, you had some great ones with the background stretched out in a blur, i loved the one of the sweeper guy too.
Perhaps try taking some focusing on the context of the track with the cars not so much the primary focus, but still using the track to frame them?
I have no idea what to say really, you are clearly 1000 times better at that then i will ever be, so constructive feedback is nearly impossible! I have worked at selecting photos for magazine layouts, but it wasnt for very long, if i can help on that front let me know and i will try and say something helpfull!
Well done again! Love them!
I like the unusual/atmosphere shots, something captured other people have missed. Gives you a sense of 'being there'.
@Lou
The next time you are sending an e-mail to your mate Lorenzo tell him you have been taking pics at Brands and the fence is ruining them. Ask him if he knows of a way for you to get a pass.
If you get a pass don't get hurt or killed. You have to keep one eye on the cars and not just concentrate on the photography
thanks mr c :)
Yeah exactly - to add to what I just said, it is the way it was taken. Ask most people to take a pic of a marshal sweeping and they'd get a pic of the guy in the middle of the road. I liked the different angle.
i agree, I was just keen to get done shots on Saturday, however I'll be exploring brands in more detail next time :)
yes very much so ;) you know me too well lol :)
thanks :)
I actually preferred the last one, due to the car position I think, being slightly in front rather having gone by... greater sense of speed.
sounds like a good idea to me :)
thank you :)
oooooo nice idea!!
okay will bare that in mind, it does look very risky.
Now i realise what i said didnt make all that much sense... ;)
i understood what you meant though :)
okay it's 1am and I have school in the morning, thank you all so much for your kind words and feedback. It's much appreciated. :) nightxx
The fastest way to permanently lose your pass is to go stand somewhere dangerous
Night Lou
If your doing what they say, then you'll have no issues
Night! I'm off as well.
Night!
same, without the school bit.
night
Night Pat and Jon
You still around Nick, or Steven?
I am doing other stuff but popping in and out
here but watching something...
I just want someone to have a quick look at a small (6 page PP presentation)
Is very high level, for guests to our hangar
Please
Am uploading now
hehe, of course!
I love PP. Haven't used it in ages
Ignore the mismatched font sizes for now
http://drop.io/bassanoclapper/asset/welcome-to-tbj-ppt
i need the secret code ;)
concorde
Should have guessed!
Why not Speed Bird?
Long story
If the bits are already "greasy" do they still need to be lubricated? (Pg. 2)
Yes
Fresh grease
It looks good, Perhaps expand on TBJ on the first page?
Also depending on how high up the people are, it might be worth considrering making the 2nd slide a bit more formal. You can still say 'greasey bits' but i would tend to say the slide should be a little bit more formal, even if your words arent?
Other than that it was very good. Informative and to the point :D
It'll be the building they are in, they'll have already been told about that but I guess I can tell them it's "Technical Block J"
I was going to make the same comment about lubricarting the greasy bits. If they are really high level it may be better to formalise that.
I was asked to make it very informal
hehe, its titleing, always best to do it in expansive form ;)
That was intentional, my manager asked for it to be slanted that way to make it non-stuffy
Is there any reason why you say 747, 777, 767 rather than have them in numerical order?
Largest to smallest, physically
You probably know what you need best...
But if you do decide to formalise it, loose the generaly and the exclamiation mark too.
Now i feel like a horrible school teacher, you have done a good job!
It works, I assume you are talking to them and it will be quick, so its not all that much t worry about ;)
Makes sense.
I don't see anything else that I would pick up on. It looks good.
It's not a term anyone uses, they'll always here TBJ
Have included it's longform in text now, ta
No, that's perfect.
It'll likely get polished at the receiving end as I'm emailing it in
Thanks chaps
Even if you dont say it, someone your presenting too might appreciate being told what it is ;)
No problem
Have added now
Whats doohickey for if it isnt a help service ;)
Best of luck with it when you do it!
I'll likely never present it, it's a stop-gap until we have a proper info pack and website for the hangar
Whoever's receiving the guests will walk them through it
Ah, thats cool...
You will likely have some one moaning 'who on earth calls it technical building jaaayyyyyyyyy? :P
The used to have a huge sign on the wall, back in the major maintenance days
The Best Jumbos
Is there any other kind of Jumbo?
Well, there's ours...
and everyone else's ;)
But seriously, there's Freighters, SP (a shorter, longer range model) Combi
Quite a few
Ive been on an sp on a domestic flight in south africa... really cool plane, massive, yet tiny
Like an Airbus A-378?
The Midget-Mogoloid!
They look quite stumpy. Exagerated by a larger fin, for a greater moment due to reduced fuselage length
hehe, i had to look up moment ;)
I knew it was an aero concept, but it needed looking up!
A-378 doesnt come up in google?
Let me pull up Photoshop....
A shortened A380?
The Airbus double decker
Ah yes, i should have thought of that!
Entourage is the best show ever... It is possibly too awesome.
I never got into it. Saw a few episodes but didn't grab me
What's this Fast Forward like?
First episode had a great ending, havent had a chance to watch the 2nd one properly.
It looks interesting, but its not quite LOST
That can be a good thing though, there's only so many cliff hangers and questions a show can pose
Its a love hate thing... the more they annoy you with questions, the more you NEED to come back for answers
I still it's odd we're flying A318's across the pond. Those things are tiny! Configured for 32 business class seats only
From City?
I heard about them launching that 2 years ago, and it was annonced again last month which was weird.
Oh, I'm there. Just get's frustrating. Thought he last season cliff hanger was a bit weak though. This final series is gonna be jam packed
Would you prefer a Vickers Vimy? At least it had a tail-wind!
Sony version of that super skinny macbook looks pretty cool.
Built in GPS and 3G http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/10/07/sony.launches.vaio.x.netbook/
Yup
Was always going to be launched now, but announced ages ago to get people used to he idea. Think they were also waiting on 318 approval at London City which is quite unique in it's take off angle, quite steep
Also overweight, if I recall? But who cares about weight when you have the power?
Maybe, outbound flights are underfuelled and stop at Shannon where they clear U.S. Customs and take on more juice
Looks nice, quite apple-like in appearance
Wonder if they do a Linux version :)
Now THAT's an aeroplane

i like flying. That is all.
Sorted your Finnair tickets out yet? ;)
You are flying?
Sleep calls, till the daylight folks
Night! see you on sat hopefully!
Havent heard from guille tonight but hopefully we can sort something tomorrow!
i think the reason it gave me finnair is when i searched other airlines it told me my search is too far in the future. #superorganisationfail
You should be ok now, its normaly an 11 month limit ;)
unless they are secretly planning price rises...
the websites said no! My return date is approx 22 september so a bit too far away. I am off to the rock candy shop in 90 minutes, hooray!
Have fun!
See if they can fit Kovalainen around a stick :D
sadly i am not going to the main store where they make it, just the wee store at the market because its only a block from work. Speaking of work, i am so bored. I want my kindle.
I am jealous!
I just finished the latest book in the dresden files and would probably re-read the whole lot if i had an e-reader.
I was a skeptic, but having used one for all of 5 mins i am now convinced on e-readers...
If i ask why i am still awake in the morning... Its because KISS are awesome and i cant stop listening...
i played with a sony one but the price was painful and no wireless = boo
I agree... not really all that accessible.
I think i will wait for a UK kindle for the time being though
2 fire drills in 2 days. I am getting well acquainted with those stairs.
Do they have Rockall Rock? If not... Why? Why not? (Gerry Harvey voice)
is an iPhone better value than a kindle? Discuss.
cannot be compared they do different things. :D i know there is an app for it but an iphone screen is very very different to e-ink
so if we built a different device (let's call it, ummm, iTablet, for want of a better name) that did more things, (like Internet and iTunes) but charged more for it, would people buy it?
Depends on the price versus features right?
oops. I meant to ask: how different are they? Aren't they both LCD screens? Just different in physical size and resolution?
e readers do not use lcd screens, they arent backlit at all which makes them easier on the eye. The way they work is something i dont quite understand but they only require power when the image is changing not when its displayed staticly which makes the battery life measured in weeks more than days. You really have to see one in person to realise how insane the screen is.
as for the itablet, if it was apple, people would buy it regardless of the price or features. You KNOW what apple fans are like ;)
Morning Sidepodpeeps :D
morning gavmeister ;)
The thing is it really depends on how much of a reader you are in my opinion. The improved battery life and easier on the eyes you get from having a kindle has to be traded off with the disadvantage of carrying an extra device.
I'm really torn. I want the new coolness. But I'm going to have to wait now anyway, Christmas is coming up, money etc, and the rumours are iTablet is due in January. I think I will wait to see what I'm comparing it to, because I certainly won't want to carry both.
Gavmeister is a good one :)
Morning Kovawoman :D
Das Gavmeister von Danemark! (insert umlauts where appropriate!)
true. I dont see the kindle being something i carry around all the time but it will be a lifesaver when im travelling and with summer coming up i plan on spending a lot of time with a book and a drink outside :D . I am not a fan of having everything in 1 gadget hence why i carry a phone and a camera and an mp3 player. Because im good at letting batteries die. Plus im a lady so i dont have the "have to fit everything in my pockets" problem like most of the males i know.
Guys,
You have to read this story. Just read it!
Agree with the all-in-one gadget thing - Jack of all trades, master of none.
LOL
Exactly. I however actively am seeking that functionality. I can not be considered a standard user perhaps, but good enough is a great feature as long as you don't compromise on usability.
The iPhone does a good job of being an all-in-one, except the battery doesn't last long enough :(
I do have the spare recharger which gets me out of trouble but I would say I don't particularly have a problem with it now. I leave it plugged in while I'm in the office and I charge it overnight. But yes. If you could magically double the battery life then it would be really helpful.
By the way have you had a play with the brightness and lock time settings. You can eek out quite a bit more battery life that way.
using 3G also eats lots of iphone battery juice
I have - but I have the Touch which has great battery life until you play games or use wifi...
Pick your Classic Brazilian Grand Prix - I went for '82 and '89, I really like seeing the old races with Murray Walker. '93 and '94 were not that great and I still have a copy of 2008.
Weirdly, 2003 is not on that list and I loved that race!
I think Gavin has a touch so that's not so much of an issue for him. 3G on the train is the biggest suck down of battery. I think the actual biggest consumer of battery seems to be changing 3G transmitter or searching for them or something. So combining that with actually using 3G is the ultimate in trouble.
There you go: Dänemark. I also would suggest Der since you are a guy and not a thing and maybe aus instead of von. Actually maybe leave my poor language alone? :)
So I'm thinking I am going to correct an historic ill and go to Paris on Monday.
hooooray! (Advice when you're done please)
also, Señor Giggles, look how good a job you did of fixing it! Me and my washing thank you. All will be well and truly dry by the time I leave.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/northmelbweather-jpg
Hello and good morning to everyone!
And the sun is shining and it's a bit colder here than yesterday. Perfect, well done
you're very positive for a Thursday!
Ooh, France. I know of one potential kidnap victim, if you have time.
So far so good. It's still early though :)
my day can only get better, I have just got home from work :)
Ich entschuldige mich für meine schlechte Sprache.
almost :D Since I'm butchering yours constantly I guess you may continue playing with mine ;)
Blame Google Translate for that one!
You might feel better in knowing that what little German I know, I apparenlty speak very well ;)
It's been tough but somebody had to do it ;)
Who's the victim?
I don't even know if he's in France, actually. Last seen in America, and I haven't been stalking him since then.
FM ?
Maybe the 5Live coverage then was iffy? Was it Croft or Legard covering that race?
Morning, everyone.
Ah... Let me know if you spot him... on the internet ;)
Shhhh, we don't want any evidence that could incriminate Alex later. :)
Ferdinand Marcos? Heehee. :D
Me... Oh no... I wasn't doing anything... Just borrowing him...
Although, knowing you, you'll probably leave him at customs just like my poor panda.
he is still alive ? :-)
:D
Nope, he's been gone for exactly 20 years now.
Yeah I have a habit of that... But I think this time the person may be allowed to travel a bit more.
I see that Trulli is adament that the NASCAR thing is just for fun:
"I want to stress that this is purely an opportunity to experience another category of motorsport for personal enjoyment," said Trulli. "My commitment is 100 per cent to Formula 1."
It must be frustrating not to be able to take a step without a hundred conspiracy theories starting up.
It's not hard to make the jump when:
- He's basically been sacked by Toyota
- He's testing out a NASCAR
- He's one of many ex-F1 and open wheel drivers to switch to NASCAR
He should drive sportscars - Toyota have been rumoured to be considering an attempt at Le Mans...
... but he also said last weekend at the presscon that his F1 future is not uncertain, whatever that may mean
Morning SidepodPeople
I think I'm over the worst of it, looks like I'll pull through
If I was a current F1 driver looking for a drive I wouldn't go and test a NASCAR - it basically says "I think my career is over"...
Ok, that was "future", not "F1 future"
phew, otherwise how would I get my tickets if you were dead!
I would have left them to you in my will of course!
How nice of you to care for his well being ;)
that may be the certainty he is talking about
ahh, always thinking!
#shhbeingorganisedsometimeshelps
Yay!
I have some stupid questions for you. Was catching up overnight comments and saw Steven's question about the 747, 777 and 767. Why have they numbered the planes wonkily? And what happened to 757?
poor Jarno, I've always had a soft spot for him. Perhaps because he has a Finnish name.
Exactly... I think he's signed.
To be honest while he's not one of the best prospects in my view if any of the new teams starts without a Trulli, Fisi, Barichello, etc then they will go backwards not forwards.
Woohoo!
757 is a smaller, shorthaul aircraft. We have some but they are old now and being replaced. 787 is in pre-production and will be flying soon. 737 is the most successful Boeing around and has been updated many times
The numbers just represent the next project, not the aircraft size
[Wonders what they'll do after 797]
I agree. The new teams would be mad not to hire all these experienced F1 drivers without a secure seat next year!
7-10-7 - obviously!
Out of interest, the 787 with have a Carbon Fibre fuselage, an aviation first
Isn't this the reason for the delays?
Partly, I think
No aircraft production runs on time but this is quite ground breaking
is that the one they call the Dreamliner? I want to fly on that simply because I like the name.
Ahh, thank you. Wonky numbers make me mad, but in this case, I'll let them off.
I vote for them moving up to 808 and onwards.
Why are they wonky? Because of the matching beginning and end?
Aye
It sounds peaceful. I want to dream while I fly!
From what I could gather, the size order puts the number order out of sequence.
Katherine has done something with her trainers that annoys me. But it only annoys me. I think you might have to kill her.
She's got a new pair of shoes, different pattern but same idea as those new ones you bought the other week. And she's laced them up missing out one of the eyes on the bottom row. If she has the two shoes together it's symmetrical. But I'm really not sure about it...
Got you.
In the example mentioned, I listed them in order of aircraft size as that has more relevance to our nature of business
For the record, I like the number at the beginning and end, it has a kind of symmetry.
Just one eye or an entire eye row?
I think I am going to need a picture.
I think that's technnically illegal
Just one eye.
I'll get a picture.
I am having palpitations just thinking about it.
You get symmetry across the shoes because the opposite one is empty on each side. But sometimes I see only one foot...
I can imagine. I considered not telling you. But... I thought it best I forewarn you.
one of my flights at Christmas is on a turboprop and they scare me. I think it's the propellers. I like bigger planes. Although I have only ever flown on 737s and A320s. I am looking forward to going to London on a BIG plane :D
we're going to have to demand she jumps everywhere and always keeps her feet together. Otherwise no one here will sleep tonight from the stress.
You flew to Singapore on a 737? That's a long way, are you sure?
I had a very very boring stop over in Darwin.
Turboprops are fine, they have a great rate of climb
If you're referring to the flight within NZ then it's awesome - fantastic views! Last time I flew from Dunedin I saw the sun set over the southern alps!
I guess that'd probably be near the limit of operation
Darwin to Singapore is about 4 1/2 hours
Sorry, Football link - but there's a very big game in town on saturday and everybody is very excited.
Denmark Vs. Sweden is a big rivalry and there's a lot riding on the gam - if you remember last time these two met in Denmark, the game was abandoned because a drunk Danish fan attacked the ref when he gave a penalty to the Swedes - the win was awarded to Sweden.
The ultimate irony was, the idiot who attacked the ref was Danish, but he lives in Sweden! :D
It's on the Dunedin to Christchurch leg of Dunedin-Christchurch-Auckland-Melbourne (I hate stopovers. Kindle will save me)
How many English fans will spill beer on their keyboard this weekend? ;)
I like Christchurch
sure there is, although different one for me :-) , it will be long night with 2:30 am start over here
If I ever go again I'll cough up more money to a non-budget airline so I don't have to spend 4 hours each way in that stupid airport. Coming back was the worst, we left Singapore at 9pm and because of time zones and spending too much time in Darwin it was 1pm the following day before I got home.
every single person I meet from overseas tells me that but I find it a very boring city. Too flat.
It has a nice feel to it
Plus there's a great pub off the main square that used to do $5 roasts every day!
ooooh if I could eat a roast every day for $35 a week, I would. Then I'd probably never want to look at another roast for a while.
Kaikoura's another little place that I really liked
anybody has noticed that yahoo is shutting geocities down later this month ?
I've never made it to that part of the South Island. Christchurch is as far north as I managed before I left. I really didn't follow that 'see your own home before you leave' advice.
Had heard that was going soon
Franz Josef was amazing
Also did a skydive over Lake Wanaka on my birthday, stunning views
Me neither - but I have seen most of NZ anyway so that's OK ;)
I thought they already had to be honest. I'm not sure the last time I went to a geocities page :D
I looove Wanaka. I like it a lot more than Queenstown.
How did you manage to see the scenery while hurtling towards the ground at 100mph?
Freefall doesn't last too long, 30 -40 secs or so. Once parachute is pulled it's like being stationary, especially if you get caught in a good thermal
Cool!
Amy, tell me you've been to Milford Sounds. Please
Leaning forward out of an aeroplane doorway at 12,000 ft is one of the most unnatural things I've ever, ever done!
oh yes, I've been everywhere on both sides of the south of the South :D Very very pretty over there :)
I really want to skydive one day but oddly I know I could never bungy jump. I think its because skydiving you are strapped to an expert so you don't have to take total control over what you are doing.
I refused to bungy in Queenstown but somehow a skydive was ok
Was about $300 I think, that was a few years ago though
Someone has been doing Fantasy Racers-esque analysis on Hollywood actors value for money :D
Seems Naomi Watts comes out on top
$27 for studios for every $1 of Salary
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8296255.stm
Oops, $44
I don't think I've seen her in anything. Which doesn't mean anything, of course :)
Have you not seen King Kong?
That was a great movie and she's very good in that. She definitely convinced me that she was in love with a giant Gorilla!
King Kong - meh
21 Grams - good
Mulholland Drive - odd
The Ring - scary
I haven't. Isn't it, like, really, really, really long?
Fuuny Games is quite peculiar too
Stay deserves a little credit, much underrated
A little too long, yeah
Oh and Kronenberg's Eastern Promises is very good
Viggo Mortensen is superb
That's all good, but has she been in any Swedish Vampire films lately? :D
Oooh, he's from Lord of the Rings. I have seen that.
once, but I see Hong Kong every day :-)
All of them? :)
That's where she's going wrong!
Actually yes!! Although, I've seen the second one about five times, compared to the first and last ones only once.
It appears the only one of her films I have ever seen is Tank Girl, and I didn't know she was in that.
I sense a trend ;)
You have done very well - those are long movies too!
If you can see those, you can see King Kong, easy!
I just realised that.
Because, also, I have seen Die Hard II a lot.
*waves*
morning :)
I thought Ned Kelly was mandatory viewing once you crossed the border? ;)
Hey Lukeh
I can't believe he is a hero here! He killed people!
Morning Lukeh!
What about The Matrix Reloaded? Star Wars II?
you're happy today!
They were British, it was ok back then
Isn't he like Robin Hood?
Empire is the bestest
With a bucket!
Just watched that on Saturday - it's certainly the funniest!
I haven't seen any of Star Wars really. I think The Matrix is the only one that falls outside the trend, although, you know, it's rubbish.
The only thing I know about Star Wars is there's that really fat thing, and then some sand that kinda eats people.
Rrrrrubish, I think you mean :)
I has a new DS game Ivew wanted to play for aaaaaaaages, it's a gorgeous day outside, and I have a day off of not worrying about uni work. so today is a good day for a thrusday :D
As far as I know he didn't actually do anything good, but I could be very very wrong :D
And Yoda.
:D
You'd like the Ewoks
formula palmer audi crash video - that car is a gymnast ....
http://www.formulatwo.com/news/palmer,-vautier-and-jousse-all-take-wins-at-silverstone.aspx
If you saw the Matrix 5 times you might start to understand it - I like them, but they are very weird!
And that there's a dude called Luke Skywalker as I get called it a lot. I have never seen any of the SW films... on and it has Samuel L Jackson
I think we have a winner for the 2009 F1 Season Tagline!
Isn't there a TV show called "I've never seen Star Wars"?
We try to forget about the prequels, go old skool or don't bother
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I've_Never_Seen_Star_Wars_(TV_series)
Ooh, link fail
The Matrix I get. I seem to recall having a conversation with Mr C and a friend after Revolutions, in which I was explaining it all to them and they didn't get it.
However, I don't remember it now, so perhaps I was making it all up.
I like the prequels myself - although the originals are better.
I have all six on DVD and oddly enough, for the originals I have both the special editions and the original versions.
If the special editions have better effects and stuff, why would I want to see teh original ones?
They should've stopped at the first, the rest was just an exercise in CGI
It took me a long time to understand it - and I still pick things up years later... very odd!
Cos they look wrong
Especially with Jabba in A New Hope
The second was cool just for the stunts. Number 3 was badly done.
....do you have an entire set of Star Wars novels? Are you my ex? ;)
The 2nd film just confused me because, well, most of it made no sense. The 3rd one is the first film that actually made me genuinely angry. I came out the cinema almost wondering whether to ask for my money back. Hate it.
In what way? They look good to me?
Oh dear, is that why he became your ex AMy?
errr - no. I really wanted the DVD's for ages though - I love the films!
Ahh, I had that with Blair Witch.
Maybe it's a nostalgia thing, I remember queueing round the block in 1977
Is Indiana Jones a trilogy?
He tried to make me watch the movies because he almost fell over when I said I had seen none. I fell asleep four times and he gave up. I think it was the beginning of the end :D
Quad now
Quadrilogy because there are 4?
I had the same with Monty Python, my ex just didn't get it
They made a 4th one recently, with IndianOAP Jones
that is a dumpable offence, so much more so than Star Wars!
Sadly, apparently
Though I haven't seen the Crystal Maze one
It took me years to get Mrs. Goat to see Star Wars and the Matrix. But she's getting her own back now by making me see an old Danish TV show called 'Matador' ;)
Oh my god they should make a Crystal Maze film
I just experienced that Trauma with Mrs. Goat and the Holy Grail. She did. not. laugh. once :(
Does she make you watch Lars Von Trier movies?
Maybe. To me it looks really good and George Lucas is saying that now the films look like he always wanted them to.
No - he's not too popular here!
?!!!!!!
He goes out of his way to be controversial
Yeah I know. Not a peep!
Lukeh's mind = blown :)
And the Danish psyche finds that odd TBH...
It's definitely an acquired taste though.
Yes. yes it is. I've never known anyone to not laugh at it!
morning all, anyone watching the live felipe interview at ferrari.com now?
Indeed it is. She likes silly humour though, she just didn't get it!
News to me
Has she seen Anchorman? Now that is a brilliant silly humour film
Hello Mr SLV
Yeah he is live at 12CET which is now right?
Guess what? :(
I didn't expect to like that but it is funny
Mind = imploded.
Is the Holy Grail the one with the stupid clip clopping? I didn't watch after that.
That's the beginning!
It is - perhaps you and Mrs. Goat might like to have a movie night!
Rrrrrrrrubbish
Hasn't started yet, I don't think.
I liked the Jesus one, though. Which is even more impressive because I was determined not to like it.
Is it a member's thing? Can't find it
http://www.ferrari.com/English/Pages/Home.aspx
It's not about Jesus, it's about Brian! :D
http://nfw-app.weebo.it/ferrari-chat/
ah, Life of Brian is better to be fair. You regain brownie points for that :P
Life of Brian is excellent!
always look at the bright side of life :-)
Oops, yes. The bright side of life and all that.
Why were you determined not to like it?
On second thoughts there is no way I can keep up with that :)
the felipe chat has started
It's Live Chat
Who wants that? ;)
:)
He's speaking in Italien anyway. But I think something is 100% I assume he means him.
it is a bit of mess :-)
Because everyone always says it was the best thing ever. Not a fan of being told what to like. Turns out it was okay, though.
I thought it was Brazillain & English
That can happen a lot with movies - I saw a movie everyone said was awesome and thought it was 'meh'. Saw it again a year later and thought it was really good!
years back I was dragged to watch a movie with bunch of friends having no idea what are we going to see and what it is going to be - tragedy comedy drama blood, thriller. it turned out to be Full Monty
It says to ask questions in Italien or English on mine, the only english thing he has said so far is that he will be driving the F2007 at Fiorano next week :D
We are the same person. It's official.
Oh ok
Dooohickey is better ;)
That's really funny though!
I think the worst film I've ever seen was when I took my nephew, at the time he was 10, to the cinema and asked him to choose a film. He chose Thunderpants... and it was half term.
Who knew a film could cause so many children to copy the noises being made in the film in a full cinema.
and especially when you do not expect to see something funny :-)
A film I've never seen all of
Ooooh, I like that one!
Don't tell Mr C. He's been thinking that for ages :)
Hehe indeed. I'm just reading what he says, too many people asking questions so chance of mine being answered are small.
Oooooh, a film I've seen that you haven't??
*faints*
I have not seen any of it. I'm very Christinelike with films though so that really isn't an achievement.
SLVAaron, can you understand everything Felipe is saying? :)
It’s turning out to be quite a difficult week at Sidepodcast HQ, as we stumble from one disaster to the next. {Original entry}
Would I be correct in assuming this is the reason for the new colour scheme? Hope everything sorts itself out soon at Sidepodcast Towers.
Hellooo. I managed to wake up :) Miracle
Well done, not just now hopefully
New colour scheme?
That's what I thought
Hahaha alas no.
Not sure if anyone knew this but Massa will be waving the race finishing checkered flag at Interlagos. :)
Also my question hasn't appeared on the chat and I asked it 10 minutes ago :(
Good info
I'd say they probably missed it then, what did you ask?
Awwww
I asked him what he thought he might achieved in this years car.
My thoughts exactly :)
I'm surprised he's up for it. I'd have thought it'd be too frustrating.
Is this the 2nd year in a row a member of the Massa family is waving the flag?
He says it will be an honour, so he is up for it :)
He has also mentioned that he is dreaming of returning at Abu Dhabi but the chances are small.
Ooooh that's great trivia knowledge.
There is an argument on another forum that the testing ban should be waived so that Ferrari can assess whether he will be fit enough to race as soon as possible. What do you guys think?
He can test the 2007 car with GP2 tyres, seems good enough
The testing ban should be disposed of for many reasons, but not that.
Without KERS and the other systems though?
Yep
He is testing at Fiorano next week in the F2007 ;)
It's a tough one to decide. There's is a considerable difference between testing a 40 year old driver who's been out of the sport for years, and a current driver who has had a massive injury but recovered... but I think he should get the chance. It should be a test for him though and not a test for Ferrari to benefit from with data. It's probably a little hypocritical to allow him and refuse 'That Man' a test in a current car but meh!
Also, technically would he be allowed to test this years car after the season?
Is it limited mileage off season?
Test *in* this years car I mean, not do testing on the car.
That's a good point. I would suggest as a compromise, a one-day test the week after the season ends, but they only run a grand prix simulation.
Ah it is. I suppose not then, and the ban is up until the end of December I believe.
Maybe in winter testing but I don't know. You have to think that Ferrari will be quite far ahead on their 2010 car.
Before this season, Webber had very little testing, and the Brawn duo as well. Doesn't seem to have harmed them too much.
Ooh, good point.
I think no. That said, if they're going to mess around in year old cars with slicks on, they might as well be in a proper car. You could certainly argue it cuts costs to know if he's gonna be fit to race. I think more testing should be allowed, using old models should be banded in with the new cars though.
There are a lot of reasons to allow more testing but I don't think this is more pressing than anything else.
Exactly. Is all of this because Felipe is quite sympathised for=?
I'd say that has a pretty big part towards it.
There's a good argument that you shouldn't stick him in a car to see if he kills himself or not! :-)
Morning all
Bit harsh, but allowing Felipe to drive the F60 now is pointless because they have given up on development of the car and next years car will be different. So if they won't to see how he handles the speed and g-forces putting him the F2007 is fine.
Ooooh good topic!
My 2 cents is.....wait, there really is no rush
Errr just about!
Anyways back to work for me :(
There was a chat this morning over on the Ferrari website with Felipe, he confirmed he is driving the F2007 next week ;)
Yeah i knooow that, but i don't see the point, apart from getting Fisi out the car.
Fisi will be in the car all year. Even Felipe knowns coming back this season is just a dream and the chances small.
I don't think his testing has anything to do with getting Fisi out the car. They just want to know if they should be recruiting.
But who would they bring in? They don't need any more drivers and Fisi is the reserve driver for next year their fallback is a Alonso-Fisi lineup. Personally I think Felipe will suprise a few people and be strong next year.
I doubt Ferrari will fallback on Fisi for a year if Massa wasn't up to it.
He is the reserve for next year and I doubt they would bring anyone else in and besides the Alonso-Fisi combo worked at Renault ;)
as much as i like massa, that would be a great lineup.
On Fisi's current form?
We have to remember the F60 isn't an easy car to drive and Fisi is improving. If he had some testing with the car then he would be qualifying a lot further up the grid.
It takes time for Rob to work his magic.
one of my first 16 tweets from that site Alex linked to the other day was "Oh Massa you make it so easy to dislike you. Please stop talking"
And I really have no idea what that is in relation to
Fisi's form!!?!?! Were you watching Spa?! It's clear that he's good just in a testingless role.
For sure-mania perhaps?
if trulli goes to nascar, i think i might start watching it again. how weird is that?
Probably about wanting the WDC points being reallocated (or not wanting them reallocated as some sources carelessly left out)
Woah!
you can't name an aircraft after a drum machine. 909 is right out too.
And 606.
that must be grounds for separation?
it was during testing, and came immediately after "If its true TTFKAH have chosen a blue and white livery I may scream"
Which makes me remember that I am thankful for fluro yellow.
ahh. my first website was on there. admittedly in about '95.
amazed it's lasted so long.
mine was too, it was a fan site for an inflatable dalmation named Sparky. Ahem.
I think I had a wrestling website on geocities when I was, like... 10. Ah, young times.
Me too! Or maybe it was my second one after Angelfire. I forget which order.
Very weird - because I did the same thing with Montoya until I got insanely bored of it!
2, 3 races?
true story.
I have a site on there as well not fron '95 though :P
2, 3 years. The COT ruined it for me :(
oh! oh! I found what my tweet was about.
"Felipe Massa has called for grand prix weekend mileage to be reduced in favour of a small number of high-profile, perhaps points-paying, mid-season tests."
yep, that'd make me tell you to stop talking for sure.
we have a new colour scheme?
Intresting idea though. :)
i did the same, but i gave up when the stockcarzone podcast called it quits. i need to find a new nascar podcast and i'll be all set.
points paying tests = horrible idea :D
that spring really did some damage, huh?
I do like the idea of a return to testing, so that parts can be tested weeks or months in advance. But I don't see how reducing on-track time is going to help promoters. More mileage in a weekend, force test drivers in the seat.
'twas 4th of March, but we'll blame the spring.
ahh, maybe it knocked some sense into him?
All they need is a couple of test days a year where all the teams go, that way no one gains an advantage of anyone else and make it at a track where they aren't racing during the season.
I'd agree with that but all his recent outbursts about the
crashgateSingapore and how it robbed him of the championship beg to differ.I have realised how bad my english is today, I apologise :)
He knows he may have lost his only chance I reckon...
Yep, one at Silverstone, one at Monza and one at Nurburgring to keep the manufacturers happy.
He knows that his new teammate DOES 'care' about how well he will be doing!
Not Monza, I liked how they all went there this year clueless as to the setup. In my opinion it has to be a circuit they are not racing at so the Nurburgring would be a good idea as long as the race is at Hockenheim.
Nurby, Jerez and Silverstone then?
Why is everyone so sure Silverstone won't be on the calendar? :D
Also the circuit in Portugal would be good.
Yeah, agreed about the track thing. Plus Monza is pretty much the only super-speed track left, so not much value in testing.
If point earning tests are Introduced, won't that make the teams less likely to experiment?
I am not, but it isn't at the mo.
Portimao should have a GP at it I reckon.
That bit I didn't understand how would you score testing? number of laps run?
He he, that's what I was thnking. Figured it would've fallen on deaf ears earlier
Charming.
I have an idea but best not to air it, we all know the influential types read here
:)
An 808 State fan are we Christine?
I am capable of using Google. Can't learn things if people never say them.
Ok, then I apologise
Then joke would've been lost in the moment though
At least your bff understood.
:)
woohooo. bbc are phasing out realplayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/radiolabs/2009/10/realmedia_an_update.shtml
5 years late, but i'll take it.
w00t, now we just have to work on Giggles
I thought they had done that a while ago!
i can't listen to rob on bbc tees without switching to windows and using media player.
Surprised the iPlayer has taken this long to replace it. Tis an overwhelming success

Oooh wonderful.
Sky News: UK postal workers have voted in favour of a national strike.
Booo, it's my birthday next week :(
post is dead.
I wasn't going to mention that
Postal strikes confuse me....dont they just make more work for themselves when they come back?
Just as I was sending off something I was selling on Ebay great. :(
but you can't send everything by email im afraid!
Am waiting for my credit card provider to do online statements, my bank do
people in this country are hopeless at striking. they annoy the customers and not the bosses. what the silly fools should be doing is saying:
"don't bother stamping anything, we'll promise to deliver regardless"
we'd be happy and support their plight. and the bosses would lose much more money, more quickly. taking a week off is just being lazy.
Agreed... instead we all face chaos because of their own problems. A national strike will see a lovely backlog thats already been built up from the area strikes.
Grr life grr.
No one strikes like the French
I am shocked any bank/credit card place doesn't!
The only thing I get in the mail is bills and thats only because my flatmate doesn't like it when I get them online because she likes to be able to work out who owes what and scribble all over them.
I can do that I can't get katsomo.fi to work which uses wmv3(?). apple beats linux :(
Is VLC media player available on Linux?
I have proof of that!!

yes and that works, but I can't scroll. So if I want to rewatch sth that happened near the end of a F1 race fr example I have to watch everything.
The harbour truly is not to sale.

Not with privatization either.
Hmm, that's no good. The slider doesn't work then?
FA meeting today regarding Flav & Quad Bike

nope, just crashes the player. But no worries I just like complaining (as you may have noticed my now) :)

Grosjean out, di Grassi in? http://twitter.com/WitnessX/status/4707510281
I should say I did a quick search and all I found were GMM articles ;)
GMM use Witness X on twitter as their source? He he he
Would it surprise anybody? Aside from Kubica, it's a slow news week
Joe Saward suggested as much a few days ago
I'm hearing that wheel fairings have been banned from next year. Anyone else heard anything?
Joe is Witness X? :-D
I thought that was decided ages ago, or was that wishful thinking?
Hmm, couch nap for me I think
Any snooker on?
it was. they're gone for 2010. davidson confirmed it a couple of weeks back.
New colour scheme? {Comment #401}
Sidepodcast was all retro black-and-white with blue links and no images this morning. Resembled several sites I used in the first years of my Internet adventures - very retro, but I suspected not planned in any way on your part.
No need to worry though - the usual colour scheme returned after lunch.
Not sure if anyone knew this but Massa will be waving the race finishing checkered flag at Interlagos. {Comment #407}
Yay!
Bet he does a better job of the flag-waving than Pelé...
He might "forget" to wave it if Alonso has the lead.
cheers
Also, technically would he be allowed to test this years car after the season? {Comment #422}
Not until January 1, unless the FIA grants more dispensation (which I doubt). Three days of testing per team is permitted between season's end and New Year, but the only drivers allowed to participate in it are those that have done no races and three or fewer days of testing in the previous two years. If Felipe met that requirement, he would not have been injured and therefore this debate would not have happened.
Has anyon mentioned DC's column in the Torygraph?
I like this bit:
Ultimately, it is not how you reach the North Pole that matters, it is getting there that counts. There is somehow this perception that because he has struggled in the latter half of the season, Button will not be remembered as a great champion.
Keke Rosberg only won one race en route to the 1982 World Championship. Was he an undeserving champion? Nigel Mansell and Michael Schumacher had cakewalks in 1992 and 2004, wrapping up their titles with months of the season left to run. Did that make them greater champions? Or were those championships simply less competitive?
If and when Jenson does it, after the dust settles and the PR machine has gone to work, when the BBC Sports Personality of the Year is safely in his back pocket, I don't think people will think 'lucky boy'.
Come to think of it, Button's limp to the line may ensure he does NOT win BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Is it limited mileage off season? {Comment #423}
It is limited mileage, but given the number of restrictions in place, it is unlikely that even the teams doing the highest mileage will exceed the 15000 km upper limit.
I think the problem for Jenson will be that "great champions" are decided after their careers are finished.
I need some help from anyone who has iTunes 9, when you go to organise the library (File > Library > Organise Library) do you see something like this? http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/itunes9-jpg
How odd... I get this...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/consol-jpg
me too
That is what I was expecting to get, I think mine is broken :(
Yeah i knooow that, but i don’t see the point, apart from getting Fisi out the car. {Comment #439}
Because Ferrari don't like the idea of waiting until January to find out if Felipe can resume racing for them. They didn't become upteem-constructor's-championship by leaving unnecessary question marks hanging in the air.
Also, it keeps Felipe motivated and might speed his recovery - the quicker Felipe gets through the recovery milestones, the happier he'll be and the happier he is the faster he'll recover.
It also gives Ferrari an extra day's testing. Even if they're not attempting to gain any performance benefit from running Felipe in this medical test, the team is bound to learn something and every little thing helps in a sport as complex and multifaceted as F1.
Oh no Dank: http://www.red-bullog.com/2009/10/08/so-this-is-goodbye/
:(
:( :( at Vettel crying
as much as i like massa, that would be a great lineup.
On Fisi’s current form? {Comment #446}
Yes. If Giancarlo can sort out his qualifying, then he'd be very close to Kimi's performances, and Kimi and Fernando are close to each other in performance (given that Kimi has been at the higher end of his performance capability since Hungary).
The comment I left there:
woah!
you think Daddy Hammy has a death stare..
http://view.picapp.com/default.aspx?iid=4288073&term=karting&ContributorId=7387&CategoryId=6
I'm sure daddy hammy had a part in the making of that
"Make sure he stares into the vistor's souls..."
oh! oh! I found what my tweet was about.
“Felipe Massa has called for grand prix weekend mileage to be reduced in favour of a small number of high-profile, perhaps points-paying, mid-season tests.”
yep, that’d make me tell you to stop talking for sure. {Comment #468}
I'm not so sure about the Grand Prix mileage reduction or points-paying, but the idea of maybe four week-long tests (each in a different place and none hosting a current Grand Prix) that finish with a simulated non-championship grand prix weekend would make sense to me.
My comment:
If anyone's interested, it seems Martin brundle's little segments in race buildup about the cars/rules/etc are now on BBCF1 in the maze that is it's video footage sections
Can you access previous classic grands prix?
Probably, via Andrew bensons blog as the links are in them. Still a pain in the backside to find
I do see where he is coming from though - it can be really tough to go to all that hard work making a post if nobody bothers to comment on it. It's why I stopped blogging the first time as it's a real downer :(
It might be because they want to make it difficult to access them because the BBC website uses too much banwidth...
His categorising is very lazy ;)
These are some of the popular topics this blog covers.
* formula 1
It's an interesting subject. I don't really have that feeling. I blogged for years with very little in the way of comments. I guess it depends why you're doing it.
and about, and who too
I blog because I enjoy it - but at some point if you make a big effort it should be justified by people appreciating your work somehow I reckon.
He might “forget” to wave it if Alonso has the lead. {Comment #540}
There'd be no point forgetting it - the regs say that if the flag is waved too late the result stands at the point when the race should have finished.
Maybe we should be more worried if there's a Ferrari in the lead on the penultimate lap, because if the chequered flag is waved prematurely, the result is taken from when the flag is waved rather than the formal end-point. Then again, if Felipe's dad had exploited this loophole last year Felipe would be champion...
Wasn't Felipe's Dad in the pitlane?
Me too. I wrote far more blog posts when I had far fewer comments. Not that there is a negative correlation for me. The two are unrelated. I just started writing other things.
http://www.formula1.com/video/
Japan onboard is up - and it's from Jarno Trulli. :)
i blog because it's something christine and i can do together. same reason i don't have a personal blog.
I feel that the stuff I write is really for you guys rather than myself.
I don't think the dad-waving pushed through due to darkness...
yet christine does?
Oh no Dank: http://www.red-bullog.com/2009/10/08/so-this-is-goodbye/ {Comment #552}
Sorry the blog didn't work out as you wanted it to, Dank.
she does it for different reasons.
I blog so my parents can know what I'm up to :D
How interesting. Obviously most of my blog posts are quite different than yours. However I write principally for myself. I would, in fact I did, write just as much in notebooks and word documents before I started blogging.
I write (or do creative things) because I have to. If I didn't I would explode.
i see... so she blogged before you did? interesting. ;)
I also do it because I feel like it's a great application of my skills and it increases my understanding of the Grand Prix...
Can you access previous classic grands prix? {Comment #561}
You can. The easiest way is through the index at he F1 Rejects forum.
years before.
Getting your thoughts in order on a subject is a great reason too.
I sort of feel that if people are doing it for personal reasons for themselves then it will be easier for them. Doing it for comments or ad revenue often lead to disappointment.
I'm not saying the big praise moments aren't great shot in the arms. I saw that James Allen comment yesterday. It must have been great for you :)
ooh, is the site back? must read.
nope :(
"Not Found. The requested URL /2009/10/a-little-pointer-as-to-why-red-bull-will-be-quick-in-brazil/ was not found on this server."
It was this morning... at about 5 am.
Just loaded for me now
It’s an interesting subject. I don’t really have that feeling. I blogged for years with very little in the way of comments. {Comment #566}
I have to admit I never expected to get many comments for my blogging as such and it took nearly a year to start getting any from outside the forum where the blog lives. Admittedly, not having to pay any expenses helps (other than the domain costs I picked up recently and completely optionally). However, visitor numbers are always going to fluctuate a lot unless you can release a lot of broadly-applicable and interesting content more or less constantly. That would be a bit much to ask of anyone, even if some people (two of whom run this blog) are successful...
I feel like boycotting his site anyway since his RSS feed annoys me so much. The site not loading makes it easy to stay away :D
Also getting this... silly site
comments?
Actually I'm still having problems with that page.
Wasn’t Felipe’s Dad in the pitlane? {Comment #570}
Hmmm... ...my memory is not what it used to be...
I think I blog because I like to record things. I used to keep a diary, but I don't now that I blog. It's like a big scrapbook of things I do, and things I like. It's for me, but if other people like it, that's awesome.
I like to think I do it because I am a writer, but in all reality I am not.
Ooh I thought my ears were burning!
Hello! Yes, I won't be producing any more content for the Red Bullog. It's not due to not receiving x amount of comments per y posts or anything like that. It was more that I was writing the blog for like minded fans to read. Maybe I just selected a team to support with the fewest number of supporters? :-D
I also began to find it a chore trying to find any original content like I did at the beginning of the year when I had several features running every week. I'm also a bit of pedant, so while the shortest of short articles would look like they only took about five minutes to write, realistically it would probably be 15 after I had checked it for grammar etc. and I still wouldn't be overly happy with it!
Oooh, that's right. It was fourstar who made me think that, because I wasn't sure myself!

Me too. I get the front page (complete with today's news updates) but nothing beyond that.
The only reason I lbog is because of sidepodcast, in fact I never really intended on updating it, it was to get whoever was telling me to blog to stop :)
You are a write. You write don't you? You write a lot!
That would be Mr C.
hehe. is that why you don't plug it in the website comment box?

everyone should have a blog. just in case.
Good points - and yes, that comment made my day ;)
It would appear that my blog has been going since September 2nd 2003. I must try and remember its birthday:
http://www.gamboling.co.uk/02-09-03.html
what did it say? and didnt you kill his website? ;)
:)
I can't remember who it was, but I think Steven Roy was involved.
I do normally have it filled in, I'm not using my normal computer ;)
Why on earth did I go all American date then? I swear it was a copy and paste error honest!
He just said that it was a nice blog and a great way of looking at the race. Cool eh?
This is James' answer: Cheers Gavin. That’s a great way of looking at driver consistency, tells its own story.
I don't have Gavin's comment :(
Awesome
Oooh, fun!
I have backups of some of my older blogs and I'm not sure whether to put them on STYA, cherry pick the best bits as new posts, or just leave it.
How do you back up your blog?
you should put them all up.
annonymising names as appropriate ;)
heh!
Of course back then Mr C wasn't Mr C he was just Mr.
witness x?
I think I blog because Mr c tol- ehm I mean because every once in a while I actually some thing worth talking about... or at least I hope worth talking about ;)
See Mr C I told you not closing browser windows would come in handy one day...
I just remote sessioned back to my home computer and found the open tab on James Allen's Blog:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/gavinandjames-png
impressive. not as impressive as gavin's plug though!
Nope boy done good :)
Veeeeeeery slick
I blog because;
a) it can be fun
b) i like to let people know what i'm up to, and it's fun to recall such memorys too
c) i like to have a good moan
On Wordpress, under Tools, there's an Export button. Not technically a backup file, like they have on the self-hosted Wordpress version, but it exports an xml file with everything you need in case it goes wrong.
Moaning is the best bit!
I have just done this [plug alert]: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/10/08/paper-jam/
Right peeps, i have a risotto to make, and then a car mechanics course to attend. Woooop.
See y'all later
Doesn't sound like too bad an afternoon :-)
Hooray I have sent my brother on a mission to buy an NZ sim card for me so I can tweet and mobile doohickey and qik stream while I am away without outrageous roaming charges :D Mission successful :D
should be fun :) i hope it warms up, im freeeeeeeeeezing
Jenson has no chance of winning it against Flintoff
Agreed, Lewis didn't win it last year did he?
nope, chris hoy did, which i thought was a little bit silly, but there you go.
don't forget he got knighted too! ;)
If it had to go to a cyclist, it should have been The Wiggler.
Afternoon everyone, i have returned home to discover Flav hasn't been banned just yet from football. The FA want to talk to him about what happened. This can only end in the most ridiculous decision ever.
He was so worthy... look at what he did!!!
as far as I know he rode a bike fast.
Is this true? (from wikipedia reference: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78102)
In circles!!!!
Its like Nascar for those who dont have a car!
believe so, yup.
That link doesnt open an article, but it was speculated at the race. Bernie seems sure he will use the British GP title for any race at Silverstone
although i thought it would be catalunyan gp. not andorran?
Surely... andorra is nowhere near!
Spanish government wouldnt like that, i doubt it could be approved in time
neither was san marino.
It doesn't like what I try, the link on Wikipedia worked though. :(
It was news to me. I will refuse to call it anything other than the Spainish Grand Prix.
Right, cheers, will do.
I reckon I can copy and paste my written posts from Live Writer to Windows too...
True enough. Cant wait for the welsh grand prix in shangai
they're just files. copy them to a backup drive.
Cheers - I tried to make it as appropriate as possible. i estimate 20% of my traffic over the past two days came from that comment, so it won't be the last time I do that! :D
Whyzat?
Just back to the blogging bit for a second I just kind of realised that for the first 210 entries on my blog I didn't even have a way to do comments.
Because his name is The Wiggler!
Oh yes, that's also a great way of doing it.
and now your comment on my blog makes sense. This discussion has jogged your memory :D
MotoGP race in Barca is called the Catalunyan GP, so why say no to a similar request for F1?
Even more ridiculous than anything the FIA have ever done? Wouldn't it be funny if the FA said they believe Flav when he says he isn't guilty and therefore he's fit to own? I wonder if the FIA would be tempted to scold the FA...
Good job you weren't doing it for feedback then!! :)
No offense, but... Flint-who?
Isn't it ironic that all the football hacks are proclaiming what Flabbio did as the worst act of cheating ever, when their sport allows alleged gun runners, dictators, former spies, nameless offshore corporations and cheats to run and own the clubs without any threat of sanction?
Dude - Freddy Flintoff!
I'm not in the UK, remember... ;)
I'd prefer Jenson to get it ;)
I guess you don't have any interest in cricket at all?
Indeed - ashes winning captain. He's my bet.
We were an American colony, not a British one. ;)
Does that mean NFL and Baseball? :(
He hasn't won as captain ;)
More like NBA, actually. But we used to be handy in baseball back in the day...
I was going to post a clip of how crazy the crowd gets whwn he is playing but i cant
Google have the worst video search ever... how did it get so bad?
Oh whatever - it's only cricket, anyway!
good point.
NBA is fine - your country passes the sports test ;)
shhh, was hoping you wouldn't notice ;)
Strauss? He is a bit too Public school boy in my book, but freds retiring, he should get it
:D
Because spanish politics are divided not just left/right but also between regions as well.
If they let them call it once it is likely they would never call it the spanish gp again.
I dont think there is enough time to go though all the politics and have it approved
Indeed:)
But that's the thing - MotoGP does it already. They've been doing it for ages. Why would F1 be any different? If anything, MotoGP is MORE popular than F1 in Spain...
That I find very odd about Spain - I hear all sorts of stories of discrimination based on region - madness!
That was my thought. Ah I used to really like my home made Blogging platform. It were rubbish, but I loved it :)
there's no reason why valencia can't remain at the spanish grand prix too. they have a long agreement, right?
Something about the provinces wanting to be independent of Spain, but Madrid having none of it...
Politics...
i... guess so? but i wonder if valencia is really that secure...
FYI, the MotoGP race at Valencia is called... the Valencia GP. The Spanish GP is at Jerez. ;)
They also all appear fiercely protective of their regional languages. Why is Español not enough!
I guess I'd see the sense if F1 was first in line, but it's a current practice already... If push came to shove, it'll be called the Catalunyan GP.
Hehehe. I kicked up a right fuss when I had to eventually admit defeat and give up my hand coded php site for Wordpress.
Three races in Spain? Who do they think they are, F1?
it's the same with Maori and English too...
Mine was just handcoded html.
Occasionally people would say to me, "hey I like your blog" and I would say, "it's not a blog".
Eventually I figured out it was a blog. And then I signed up to blogger and my fate was sealed.
They are petitioning the EU to have their own delegations and more... they seem to be getting more and more autonomy.
The governement wont like it, and i doubt bernie would be all that keen to be dragged into regional politics. Its just the name after all, hardly worth the hassle
:D Well, before Alonso, F1 in Spain was practically non-existent...
my friends struggled to find anyone in Barcelona who was willing to speak Spanish to them, you wouldn't find anyone like that in NZ :D
No chance!
Apparently it wasn't even on TV...
Not to mention all 3 are usually sold-out too...
Yeah, I'd imagine most people in NZ would refuse to speak spanish, too! ;)
I just mis read that as... they all speak spanish in NZ :P
That's what I have been told too - they pretend not to understand if you don't speak Catalan...
Ahhh, html, the memories :)
I knew someone would say that!
I understood you. Must be an affinity with the accent ;)
It's odd, I have no use for the language but since I left NZ I find myself wishing I knew more Maori :D
#
How much do you know? do they teach it in school?
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/79337
Question is....after last year where neither dad actually waved the flag..i have to ask....really?
Yeah, and they're all bad! (for me, at least). That's why I wrote my first CMS for a website I was running.... oh dear... over 10 years ago. That and all the writers messing up my wife's pretty layout with a missed tag somewhere or something.
That just made me feel very old.
Surely there is a risk he will refuse to wave the flag untill they change the results of singapore 08?
This could be a looong race :P
Same here :(
the basics they always teach you first in any language like numbers, days of the week, greetings as well as many songs that I don't know the English translations for :D
They teach it a lot at primary school. Well they did in the 90s anyway, but I'd imagine they probably teach even more now. My high school didn't hire a Maori teacher and offer it as a subject until the year before I finished, but we were a pretty small school. The funny thing was our Maori teacher was German, but she was the only person in the school fluent in the language.
Thats very interesting, is maori spoken much? Do they have road signs written in 2 languages? Wales is prety similar over here, they have there own little language, its very strange...
Spanish is becoming a very popular thing to teach in the states. The thing I really like is they're starting to teach it as a second language at a MUCH earlier age (like, pre-school) than when I went to school (didn't learn it til high school)
It is an official language so there is a lot of bilingual signs, and they are replacing more and more all the time. Because its an official language you can speak Maori in court if you want to, which causes headaches for pretty much everyone else in the room who can't.
Where I was from it wasn't spoken much, I'd imagine its used a bit more in the North. 4.2% of the population speak it, according to Wiki :D
They have their own TV channel and I quite often watch the 'learn the language' kid shows when I'm home :D
here is an example of a bilingual sign about 40 minutes away from my home where you will often find large groups of British tourists taking photos of themselves with it.
Do you also find naked British tourists?
HAHAHAHAAHA
Can't possibly fathom why British tourists would take a photo of that one.... ;)
I guess you have South America right there where you can actually use the language, just like I know a lot of my British friends got taught French at school since France is just over the way.
It's a bird I tell you, a bird! ;)
hehehehe Dont pretend you dodnt have a photo with the sign :P
Welsh is much less glamourous, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wales.cardiff.slow.jpg
hmmm
Now i am very confused! bird as in female?
but does make some funny mistakes...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7702913.stm
I quite like the Welsh language but that might just be my heritage showing :D
There are a lot of immigrants from South American countries, so we don't even have to go anywhere! Which is good, because we don't like to visit other countries ;)
If there is one thing I have learned from TV, it's that there is lots of Spanish speaking folk in Miami :D
ooh! my Maori show has podcasts except they don't seem to realise what a podcast is because thats just an embedded video.
Amy, sent you a PM on the Wiki. ;)
if only you had a twitter ;)
Ah, well, DMs are nice and all, but PMs suit me fine. :D
I only know they're there if someone tells me :D I have replied too.
SCots and Irish have their own Gaelic too
My parents were taught entirely in Gaelic at school
Hm maybe that's why Lou hasn't replied to me yet.
Lou I have sent you a pm on the wiki.
Hi all. I'm beginning to feel bad that my school has only just introduced German...
Followng over 200 poeple in twitter and just one update since half 3...
....odd.
I think it's broken for all.
I may have stumbled upon a little scoop ;)
Here is a pic of Brundle vs. DC at the Abu Dhabi circuit...
Makes sense I guess. Just seems wierd the site is working and everything obviously noones updates are sending.
I have about 6
Maybe it is broked
And I've replied in kind. It's a bit long, too...
I have none...
Are Twitter hosted by Media Temple? :)
Awesome photo!!
What if something epic is happening and we are missing it! Ahhh! Twitter is how I learn everything these days!
Quite a few awesome photos in that set. he also mentions what DC was talking about on another photo and it doesn't surprise me in the slightest ;)
hehe... NobleF1 neeeeds to tell me something and i cant recive it! gah!
I was looking for twitter news and found something... #sorryrg
That is totally the reason why twitter is broke
We'll have to arrange counselling ;)
Im missing out on something here! is this on facebook?
she knew it was gonna happen and left before it could happen... ;)
that crossed my mind :D
You made me think Timo was going to that American series for a second. Not funny.
Though the fact that people will be crying over the fact here account was deleted amuses me.
No, I do not like Miley Cyprus, okay.
Gavin posted a link on his facebook, thats where I saw the photos
It's this photoset from the guy who was riding with DC
I meant to add onto that comment, there's some good photos of the actual circuit there. Looks like they're ready to rumble.
Two million tiwtter accounts with the same message
: (
And she isn't even 18...
I blame Billy Ray & his mullet
Billy Ray was nowhere near as famous as Miley is now. Like all other tween stars, I blame Disney.
It was very sad about his Eggy Bready Heart
Wow they were awesome, made me a bit home sick...
I should probably have a look for some of you on the old fb before it goes out of fashion ;)
There are no appropriate words for that! :)
Follow the twisty lines... :D
http://mantovani.zip.net/
thank you for making me hungry at 3.16am
Do you have rock?
You'll never find me :P
because we had another firedrill 1 minute before my lunchbreak so I had to take 13 flights of stairs instead of the lift by the time I got there they were closed :( I shall have to have another attempt on Saturday :(
We had a firedrill today as well. Gah, in the middle of a Science experiment as well involving woodlice. We predicted they would have invaded.
awe, shame... no kfc this week either!
this is a conversation I had with my mother last night:
"you get in at 8 oclock, will you be wanting dinner? By the time we get home it will be getting towards 10"
"They will feed me on the plane but I might want something light"
"I don't really feel like cooking at that hour"
"Can we buy a pie on the way home? I'm really hanging out for a good steak and cheese pie"
"A pie on my birthday, wow"
I'm classy with my food.
oh dear. I am glad none of our fires are real because there is 16 floors in my building with between 50-300 people on each floor, and only two very narrow exits. It takes almost all day to get everyone out, then more than an hour to get everyone back in because only 2 of the 4 lifts work.
Kiwi pies are WAY better than Aussie ones
hehe, i like the way you have to plan things like that out in advance, my family is exactly the same.. :D
When are you going, is it soon?
Now i want a kiwi pie... kiwi meringue pie
(the fruit not the bird ;) )
Its worse for my mate who's on crutches, cos of the wierd way the school was built, if he was on the middle floor, he can't go down the stairs or down the lift to get the place we have to go to for safety thingy.
yes! thankyou! I am planning four pies in 6 days so I can cover all the brands/flavours I like.
Mum rung me just to check what nights I was going out with what friends, and what meals I wanted on which days. Roast dinner = Wednesday.
Tuesday!
There should be a contingency for anyone with mobility issues
yes, that's a huge red flag!
He was lucky he was on the bottom floor really, it baffles me really.
http://status.twitter.com/
apparently Twitter have gotten involved in time travel and mixed up the timelines...
didnt anyone tell them not to cross the streams?
oooh!
I have booked my Paris trip for Monday. Seems strange just to be popping over for a few hours. Should be good fun on latitude (location thingy) though.
woohoo!
Indeed - useless posting the Facebook link unless you're a friend of mine though, so I droppalottaloaded it...
careful. we did the same and honda quit f1.
I think he will be ok, Honda can't quit again.
I'm being mugged by the time zone change it will take me 3 hours to get there and 1 hour to come back. (not really but once I adjust my clock).
It's safe to say Honda won't quit F1 again will they? :P
you can never tell with those quitters.
but what will they quit this time? :P
suzuka?
Toyota?
Although to be fair I don't run a f1 news related podcast. I do cohost the parade lap though, so I guess what it would take to call me back would be a certain made up news agency quiting F1 (hopes)
probably missing something here. but alex, why are you going to france?
because the fact he hasn't been to Paris which is so close but has been to so much more of Europe is wrong
The are contracted for at least 3 years. I think.
madness. love it.
:D
essentially I am going because Amy told me off, in the comments. #MFC
I'm going to call him my personal fact finding traveller, but I'm quite sure that's not why he's going :D
by yourself?
yes.
It worked for me, i think it must be an open album?
I have lost my psp, i havent used it in quite a while, it is possible that i may have left it inaustralia.any assistance in locating it would be appreciated
At least you'll be able to get some McDonalds after you're done at the Louvre...
http://www.slashfood.com/2009/10/05/mcdonalds-to-open-at-louvre/
Royale with Cheese?
GRRR!
I could just about do with one of those now... Evening
Hi Pat
except I will have all of you lovely people in the comments.
Just to put this in context. Katherine and I have ended up out of sync in holiday days. So I have 5 days I'm taking next week. Mainly I am supposed to be editing the second draft of the novel. However Latherine did get a trip to Turkey earlier in the year which I couldn't go on (it was a hen party) and I used that holiday time writing the first draft of my novel.
So I figured that all work and no play sounds no fun. And to make me really concentrate while working the other 4 days of my holiday rather than playing Guitar Hero etc. I have decided to have 1 day of actually doing nothing. And when I was thinking of what to do Amy's comment kept nagging at me. So I decided to do that.
I'm having a pork sirloin casserole with rice... see you later guys ;)
And I'm doing homework, so if ya's see iz, tell me to get lost.
Hello all, just been looking at lou's photographs, what an amazing, talented lady she is
Great aren't they
I hope she pursues it professionally
Hello everyone.
I hate GMM.
Just compare this Joe Saward blog post to this release.
There is a special place in hell for people like this, its' just before the Hitler wing and just after the Leroy Neiman wing.
I've just been looking at them too. They are awesome!!
And to think she worried they'd be bad.. proposterous :P
Hey Dan
Welcome to the club
Christine you'll be pleased, I've been decluttering :D
Oooooh, pictures?
Not finished yet, so I only have before at the moment ;)
I may have to attempt at decluttering tomorrow too, the top of my cupboard has entered the world of 'Unorganised mess' ;)
Before and after photos please.
Has a fall cleaning craze hit Sidepodcast?
:)
we should hopefully be talking to joe later this evening, question for joe (relating to gmm or otherwise) in the usual place please:
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Questions+for+Joe
Alex, 2 apps that may be usful on your travels
Gowalla & Pocket Sherpa
It would appear so. I've got next week off work and I'm moving all my furniture & washing my floors. :)
I'm clearly missing something here..
Hmm I will have a think :)
More boxes required, can't seem to do it from phone
Anyone?
I've added some on the bottom :)
Thank you sir
If he could use an intern/slave i would be more than happy to oblige him with endless hours, thousands of words and local knowledge in return for access to my GP
amy's first in the queue i believe.
That's not a question.
:D
Seems the iPhone doesn't like edit mode for the wiki :(
Wanted to ask if Joe thought McLaren are delaying a Kimi announcement so Heikki can find a deal in private or through some sort of Ferrari clause till Jan?
not sure i understand the question. heikki at ferrari?
I've put it on the page :)
cheers sir.
I think he means, either allowing Hekki to find something. or Ferrari have clauses preventing the announcement.
:D
Its more of a prayer!
ooooh. got ya.
Terry Gilliam on The One Show?
So incongruous
[reaches for remote]
I do, ta
Morning
Hi Steven
#MFC Awww man. Monkey Island is already on the iPhone, and now Beneath a Steel Sky is as well. Both utterly classic games in terms of point-click adventure :(
All it needs is Broken Sword 1+2 and I'll officially be demanding an iphone...
Could always opt for iPod Touch
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooh. I never thought of that.
I've submitted a question. Hopefully, it doesn't cause him to roll his eyes.
I have added a genuine question for joe now, will eagerly be awaiting his answer as intend to blog on it tomorrow!
(dont worry if you cant get round to asking it though ;) )
Very impressed with Gary Anderson's rants in AUTOSPORT today. He managed to get three mini-rants into one issue.
First he said theat despite him being having designed F1 cars he had no concept what constituted a brake duct any more and had a rant about various winglets etc which had nothing to do with cooling the brakes.
He then had a go at the OWG for failing miserably and giving us ugly cars when everyone knows you need a lot less wing on the cars.
His final rant is on safety. Aparently Glock's injuries in Japan were caused by a ballast weight on the front wing which got loose and enterered the footwell. I haven't seen anyone else report this. He wants ballst weights in the front wings banned which is comon sense as they should never have been allowed in the first place. Of course had the OWG/Bridgestone/FIA not got the front tyre widths so badly wrong we would not have ballast weights in the wings.
Morning! What time is it in scotland!
IS that something which doesnt make it onto the website?
Left a question for Joe.
Cool cheers!
me neither. good info.
It's kinda late morning but with sidepodtime I just have to guess what the appropriate greeting is
Ahh, looks like Twitter finally woke up.. I'm getting tweets from two hours ago
I think Sidepodtime means that anything goes.
So you guys are on Pacific or Alaskan time right now.
Nothing here :(
silly thing
Money for nothing?
I haven't got round to opening the polythene bag yet. I usually enjoy his rants, he had some really good ideas back when the OWG announced the current spec.
It may be behind the paywall.
He does a double page spread with Mark Hughes and Girgio Piola's magnificent drawings covering interesting technical developments on the cars at each race. He also does a short Drawing Board piece near the end of the mag where he discussed the ballast weight.
I miss that. But I don't miss waiting a month and a half for my issues.
I seem not to be able to get into the Sidepod Wiki (never have) is there an alternative place to ask Joe a question?
You have to be careful or Mr C will be using sidepodtime to explain why he is doohickeying
It was a team release from USF1, not original work by Joe. I don't see a problem.
He is allowed to doohickey to solicit questions.
You can just leave it here, that's fine.
Put your question in a comment and I will put it in the wiki for you
Added a question for Joe :)
What?? Not possible.
Y'know what, I was thinking the same.
Question for Joe,
I have been really interested how often reporters either forget to mention Nick Heidfeld or if they do mention him it is as a really slow driver. Culprits include Anthony Davidson and Ian Phillips (who referred to him as a tortoise). It seems from reports of F1 musical buckets his only hope for next year is a (slim) chance at Renault or one of the new teams. What does Joe think of Quick Nick as a driver and what prospects does he think he has for 2010.
ps if you look at his race pace this year he is mostly faster than Robert Kubica and recently has been out-qualifying the Pole.
I like the idea of one or two (no more than that) big test sessions mid-season, but definitely not points-paying.
Hehe Ian Phillips is a smarter man than you think - didn't the tortoise end up beating the hare?
Added a question for Joe ;)
Right I would love people to help me for Monday if they can. If anyone knows of a place or just happens to be interested enough to find a place that they think sounds nice to eat lunch in Paris could they put it on here in the comments maybe tagged #GigglesInParis
The thing is that I am going to arrive at 12:30 and I kind of think I'll want to go somewhere and get lunch rather than going for an explore and then realising that everywhere has closed.
I can't guarantee I will be able to take your suggestion, I'm not a really big fan of fish, and apparently Katherine tells me I should be aiming towards http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montmartre but it's all up in the air.
so the hare is obviously Robert! This year he is driving like flopsy the fluffy bunny!
Thanks for adding the question.
That entered my mind as well. There are a few things that make me supsicious however. These quotes are not in anything else other than Joe's blog before this GMM came out. Usually if it is a team release, AUTOSPORT and/or some other place will carry the story. For example the FIA inspection story is all over the place.
Mostly, my suspicions are based more out of track record if anything.
thanking you all.
I've had a mountain of paper arrive this week. Stupid invoices coming at once. At least next week should be quiet!
So I shouldn't send any beer or wine to the UK anytime soon.
Points paying tests are one of those ideas that sounds like a good idea until you realise that it is totally unworkable.
The wording makes it sound like Joe interviewed them and wrote the article, and the team then asked Joe if they could release the interview as a press release.
Ah. I first read the quotes on Autosport.com, but I have noticed they aren't always first with the news.
I agree with your general sentiments about GMM :-) Just in this case it seemed ok.
evening :)
Amazon have dropped Royal Mail because of the strike action!
I didn't think of that. I always assumed something like this is done in-house.
apparently that was the papers just getting a bit gmmmmmm
james allen makes it sound like it was all his idea:
"I asked USF1 if they could send me some photos of what they are up to and they have supplied what you see below along with a Q & A document with team principal Ken Anderson."
what does ej think?
Evening Lou!
Everyone has been admiring your pictures today... Hope you check back in the comments for the well deserved compliments!
Good evening :)
Love your brands hatch photos!!
I really don't think it is! Points? For a test session? C'mon..
He invented Ken Anderson
Hey all
aw really? i'll check back through and reply in a moment. you're all too lovely :)
Where? I must have missed the link or something. (I wanna see the pictures too, I don't want to feel left out!)
hi
I'm thinking of boycotting Allen's blog until he plays fair with RSS Readers
Doesnt he realise his reader probably read other sites and might be suspicious when it turns up elsewhere?
Ditto ;)
hi too
Hey arrivals
Oh it's madness. Sorry if that wasn't clear...
The conversation, imagine must go like this...
"We need more tests?"
"But nobody cares about the tests, you need to make them worthwhile!"
"Okay, maybe we should offer points for tests."
"But that would be totally nuts".
It's like we've caught this quote at sentence 3 of the conversation.
have you asked him?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/sets/72157622414330159/
What's his site doing to readers?
Ah yes :-)
hmmm. general internet problems.
See, if I didn't stop reading his blog long ago, I would of figured that out.
Points for testing???????? I have only one thing to say on that.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My reader on the iPhone only gets the first paragraph then says 'more at the website' or something. Kathi is having the same problem with her 'puter
I was going to post a question before shunning him :)
Giving people H1N1
That is the stupidest idea I've ever heard.
They're better than the Speedhunters ones I saw from the BTCC earlier.
Lou, they're so professional!
what's wrong with that? Loads of sites do it...
Monmartre is good. If you find yourself in the other end of the city there are a stack of good restaurants on and off Boulevard St. Germain #GigglesinParis
I'd rather not go there at all if that's his attitude. Has only recently changed
But what's wrong with short headers?
Blogs normaly dont...
Its quite stange, works fine in a pc reader, but not on my phone..
I use my feedreader almost as an archive and I have a bad memory so I need to be able to search for things I am sure I have read somewhere and I am too lazy to click to read the full article
Perhaps it's a setting somewhere to try and save data charges on mobiles? Is he aware of the problem?
I suppose someone has asked Joe about the Rosberg incident at Japan and whether other teams have a situation where the low fuel warning over-rides the delta times to reduce speed? Personally I think it is incredibly dangerous to drive through a yellow flagged accident area at a higher than recommended speed, since there is a chance of both debris and marshalls on the track. I think in terms of pure danger this is worse than Piquet's deliberate "controlled" crash, because there is the false belief the cars are travelling at a safer speed for the marshals clearing up the track (I am not talking about morality here for either incident just the danger aspect). The other implication is that if Vettel did for example win the championship this year by a single point from either Brawn driver (like Kimi did in 2007 from the McLaren drivers) could the Brawn drivers claim they were robbed of the championship? What are Joes thoughts on this incident, its implication for safety (on track and the setup of the Williams car) and possible implication for the championship?
you really think so?
this pleases me cause it was really my first attempt at motorsport photography (other than goodwood obviously). so thank you :)
#GigglesinParis - Have you seen this? Paris in one day from the Telegraph
Evening all
Nice work. Especially good since it looks like the lighting was rather flat.
If it's purely for text then I want the capabilty of reading it all. Makes me feel like he wants the ad clicks. Something like Ollies or your blog, I will go to the source first
the lighting was awful, plus it was cold :) thanks :)
Evening Jon, how's things?
I was going to ask, my app is for iPhone and is only affected by his site
And has he read my blog post on it? :D
Hi Jon. Do you read JOWT? Junior series blog based in the US, focussing on stuff over there but touching on WSR and other stuff here.
I'd link but apparently the only thing working tonight is Doohickey.
I do. They're really awesome!
Pretty good thanks, although i think i've got a touch of that sidepodsickness thats going around, bit of a sore throat but hopefully that will go away asap.
How are you? feeling any better?
i think for the last race of the year we may need to take voicemails for joe.
in exchange for gp+ plugs obviously.
i cant say that i do, but i shall bookmark it. thanks
Much thanks, especially as I've got a week off to look forward to :)
Found it: http://www.junioropenwheeltalent.com/
haha, it's always the way :)
yeah ta, looks like a blog based on the different feed series, just focusing on American drivers, will keep an eye on it, ta
Oooh I hadn't thanks!
Excellent. Thanks. I am thinking that I am mainly going for Atmosphere rather than sites. You used to live there I seem to remember. Any recommendations on that angle?
Rest, fluids & Ibuprofen
That's what my doc told me
It is your blog post that is the most convincing that the incident should investigated, at least from the safety side, but as stated in my question if the championship were won by one point could there be reason for a dispute? (seems to me a possible Pandora's box)
Great pics, lou!
Ok, now a crazy question. Autofocus or Manual? I'm assuming Manual...
Humm
I'm so confused, in the last episode of The Feeder Series i told people to unsubscribe through the website and subscribe through the feeds i told them to subscribe through.....but the number of subscribers on the website has gone up!! Argh.
bit of both really, i started off using autofocus just to get used to the speeds and things and by a few hours later i was using mostly manual :)
You seem to expect people to listen ;)
Err, is iTunes ok?
Yeah, thats fine, aslong as you are subscribed through the store and not the itunes link that was previously on the website...
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=330870813
this is the right one
i even took the old feeds off the website so people wouldnt get confused, now im confused
Err, pass. Will have to check. Think I'm on the wrong one, what's the issue?
At the moment my website subs are on one site, and my itunes on another, sooner or later i'm going to run out of bandwidth on one, and space on the other, so i want to move all the subscriptions onto one, so that the money i do pay is a) cheaper and b) spent wisely
Seems fair
And i'm in the process of redesigning the website, so i only want to have to update one page/feed, rather than 2.
It's a long time since I lived there. One thing you should know about restaurants. Just because a restaurant is empty dies not mean it is no good. One of the firls in the office took some of us out one night and raved about this restaurant. Once we got there she refused to go in because it wasn't busy even though she loved it.
For atmosphere Montmartre is good. you have a lot of artists and stuff and at the top of the hill there is the Sacre Couer church. In front of the church you have a view over the whole city and it is a really short walk from the artists area.
You can get around the city for very little on the Metro. Don't buy individual tickets. They do a thing called a carnet wher you get 10 tickets for about the cost of 5 or 6.
If you have time it's worth having a wander round the area of Notre Dame down the left bank which will put you near Boulevard St. Germain
Oh shoot, I forgot to do the Sidepodtour thing during Sidepodradio.
This one's for the SimRacers:
Need for Speed Shift/rFactor – Silverstone Comparison Video
Nikki's show? It had so much content that it overran anyway.
#GigglesInParis
Thanks Steven. So now I'm thinking that maybe I will go to Boulevard St. Germain to eat, then wonder down to Notre Dame and then perhaps over to Monmatre and see acre Couer and look at the view.
How long are you there for?
1 day. I'm arriving at 12:30ish and leaving at 8:30ish.
that's not really even a day obviously.
If you add on the time you are getting up for it, it is probably a day :)
Oh yeah, it's a day really because I'll leave the house around 7am and get home around 11pm
@Christine, on the MFC website, the link that says "Subscribe (iTunes)" dosen't link to itunes..
http://mediafuturechange.com/2009/09/24/kinda-hard-to-describe-in-audio/
;)
Good point. Will get that fixed soon.
I currently have show notes for x2 MFC podcasts and have no time to do either. Boo.
Personally I don't mind as i am already itunes subscribed :)
checking back through comments...
Rubens even less than Jenson, he hadn't driven an f1 car all off season.. his first drive was at the first brawn test. he's done really well :)
haha oh dear. my relatives will be pleased :D
oooppsss... i didn't realise, will reply now.
thank you Janna :)
aw yay, you're too nice
phew! who knew html could be so tough ;)
#Random
Whoooo!!!
Just finished my mega magazine project for work! Yeah!!!
Hello again. Earlier home than last night. I'm quite proud of myself.
Lou can I have a link to your photo account, I'm awake enough to look at them properly :P
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/sets/72157622414330159/ :) is my brands hatch set :)
Hi Alison.
Lou's link http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/sets/72157622414330159/
Lou won't say it, so I will
Make you you come back and look at some of the other sets too
There's some great stuff in there Alison
Paper mache time? ;)
#sidepodspace
Tomorrow morning NASA is not impacting one piece of their LCROSS spaceship into the surgace of the moon as I said earlier this week. They are impacting two bits of it live on NASA TV.
Details at http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LCROSS/main/LCROSS_Viewers_Guide.html
It is all live on NASA TV tomorroow morning at 3:15 Pacific which may or may not be 11:15am UK. I am not missing this.
Is there some meaning in that sentence that I managed to miss.... :P
The first you should be a sure I think
Just that Lou has some other great work that's worth checking out other than the Brands stuff
Oh yes, thanks Steven
Ibuprofen brain I have
For sure.
aw, i'm rubbish at plugging my own stuff... :) thanks you.
You need Giggles as your agent :)
Your welcome, it's true
he'd have to work for free though ;)
:)
I'm on it :)
Commission only of course ;)
Am reading that there is a minor iPhone OS update
Alex, you'd best wait until you return from Paris, just in case
[Hope it fixes the WiFI drop-outs]
I like to live dangerously.
I like my iPhone updates like I like my coffee. In a bone china cup.
Ooh, Buzzcocks
:D
Already? I don't get it for half an hour yet
Ooooh... Lukeh... You know you said you weren't sure but with all the cool games you might really need an iPhone...
http://rockbandaide.com/rock-band-officially-coming-to-iphoneipod-touch/
Rock Band on iPhone anyone?
Singles Going Steady is great album. However why bring it up?
Are they playing a concert or something?
And for our viewers in Scotland... Here is something you didn't want to watch. ;)
Covered in bees!
I forgot about the program on five earlier about a killer whale eating a great white shark
*happymode* PSP had that ages ago *endhappymode*
:) or death.
i <3 Rhod Gilbert :) not so keen on his lack of hair though...
Where is my PSP!!!! its really infuriating, i havent used it for so long, now i neeeed it and its nowhere to be seen!
Bedside table? Bag?
:( You're taunting me :(
nope, i was thinking omre along the lines of...
Australia, Dubai, Manchester, Dorset?
He's good, I like him
Awe, sorry!
I guess i am just excited about the revial of the art form!
Tap Tap Revenge is good
i'm so pleased he has a dvd coming up of his last tour, it was hilarious. such a great stand up.
I must be too! I used my break to buy glue and acrylic paints.....
Luck will probably say Australia sadly.
Steven, there was a trailer for what looked like a decent space drama coming soon on he beeb
Or Murphy and his Laws
I saw that earlier. I thought it looked like they didn't blow a lot of money on special effects. I will try it when it starts but I am less that optimistic.
There is lots of good real space stuff in the next few weeks to keep me entertained. NASA are making a hole in the moon tomorrow then they are doing the first test launch of the shuttle replacement at the end of the month then the second week of Novemeber is the next shuttle launch.
mammoth number of questions put to joe from the comments, think i managed to credit everyone correctly. show might be out by 4am(ish).
Have you seen 'Moon' with Sam Rockwell. I really want to see that
Awww did I miss my chance to ask? :(
Mighty, thanks
Looking forward to it. But it can wait a day. Working over night on this thing is insane.
Does it start with a baritone gravely voice stating, "In a world..."
sorry alison. but for the next show we'd like to take voicemail questions that we can play to joe. if you'd be up for that? likely in two weeks time.
SamRockwell!!
There's a name I haven't sen for a while... aahh Zaphod...
:)
Probably
tis okay. it's worth it.
Ooooh I had a really good question. I just wasn't expecting you guys to talk to him again so soon. I shall try and remember. I meant to record you guys something for the next debrief as well....
We can wait till tomorrow and let you get some sleep
Never heard of it
You can put a question on the wiki for next time
If we ever do a sidepodpanel ever again, that has to be a killer question. We'll get Christine to play dramatic music while you create on the fly a trailer to a F1 movie.
honest, it's better this way. the comments are quieter overnight so i don't feel i'm missing out.
Don't feel sorry for him. Last time he recorded it in the morning and it still didn't go up until the early hours.
You can't help some people! :)
I can do dramatic music, easy.
it should return once we have a bit more bandwidth. 99% sure it will be this year.
The trailer makes it look like a couple bickering while stuck in a spaceship together visiting all the planets.
true story. i must be getting a bit better though?
no?
oh.
Interesting development
Sounds ace
:D Whoooo!
:D
Northern Line: what a band
[searches for sarcasm smiley]
I'll chip in and buy you a kazoo to play and we'll go from there. ;)
You can record it now or write it in the wiki. You don't have to wait until the day of the interciew to ask questions
Only if it was made before last year..
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7595352.stm
Volunteering to host. Good.
love it!
Yes mum :D
Put it on the Wiki. I'm down.
Really enjoyed that. Haven't seen Buzzcocks in AGES
twas a really good ep :)
And Horizon's back next week!
Is TV getting... better?
Joe has written a post that says there may be a protest against Rosberg for not slowing down enough. The post is here and I have commented with a link to my post... I wonder what Joe thinks of it?
I'll have to look for that Rhodri fella
Hellish funny
Now go to bed
Did he mention anything in the show?
gavin, should that be on the daily?
Buzzcocks just started. It;s like I have buffering
Didn't know that. Good news
oops,
i even cut the quote and forgot to change threads,
sorry mr c
You know it should - sorry, I'm tired. Would it trouble you to move it, good sir?
i didn't. i'm confused by the comments because there's talk in the daily about stewart, which i kinda would have thought would be in the mini-series. but i've been away.
shall do now.
What's this one about?
First episode on Tuesday 'Do I Drink To Much'
Are we gentically disposed to alcohol excess
[yes, I already know the answer]
I am having a Sopranos mini-marathon. My blog is suffering as a result.
yup.
Am making bread (again) i used a tin this time
#SorryImAnAmerican
I didn't realize Buzzcocks was a TV show. I was a little bit confused because I know the band of the same name and was wondering what the heck you guys were talking about.
The show sounds interesting.
Well, the comment is greenlit - cheers Joe ;)
Aren't you the domesticated type lately!
I wasn't sure Rhod Gilbert would cope being a host but he could do this regularly
I looooooove eating
Good stuff - a great way to save money!
What kind of bread?
It's a quiz show on music where jokes are more important than the right answers
Worth seeking out if BBC America shows it
The show is a music based quiz come comedy called Never mind the Buzzcocks and the Buzzcocks in the title are the band
I'm not actually convinced i'm saving much at all, especially since i just went out and bought a loaf tin!
Yeah, I guess the full title would help
White bread :D
i am staggered dan hasn't read christine's blog (or remembered it word for word):
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/08/12/never-mind/
Get some seeds
I love seeded bread
With a breadmaker?
They don't. I think I will write them a letter. Outside of Top Gear, I really ignore BBC America.
This is my favourite episode.
noooope, with my own fair hands (and oven)
I'm staggered you have Mr C! ;)
That has to be worth a few brownie points
na-ah, dont like granary.
always when she's asleep though, eh?
Clip with Colin Murray! +100!
is this new?
"Subscribe to the digital edition: Racecar Engineering digital Subscription"
when did that happen?
http://www.racecar-engineering.com/articles/other/400426/subscribe-to-racecar-engineering.html
Oooopppsss... Go to the naughty step.... do pass go... do not collect $200
I just had a record scratching moment.
I dont know if it has been mentioned, but USF1 have passed their inspection http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8296058.stm
:D
i've never heard of http://www.zinio.com/ but i think i need to become aquatinted.
12 Issues for £35.55
bing!
Never seen that. I used to get some work related tech stuff from http://www.qmags.com/ though
Bez is a comedy genius
is that for zinio or RCE?
I looks interesting... i tend to find epaper simulations a bit annoying though, hopefully they will work out a way to do the pages landscape, gp+ is really good on that front
Me either... I like it, but while it has a search would that be integrated with desktop search.
Also on the desktop search subject, often there are two options search the machine, or search the internet. I would like a third option, search both the machine and actual pages I've been to on the internet.
I often find myself trying to find that page I was on the other day.
And QI with Stephen Fry
Superb
It certainly has to be better than the big waste of my money known as the AUTOSPORTS additional online subscription.
that is a series worth of material for HIGNFU right there.
will try it tomorrow and let you know. need to speak to the lady with the money.
RCE.
http://www.qmags.com/Default.asp?sessionID=50B107F5BECD20E8AB4A723E8
The Alaska Horse Journal looks fun :)
would you like me to tell you how much i pay for my paper subscription of RCE?
i'll give you a hint....it's less than half ;)
paper edition: £44.99.
i don't follow?
Tesco clubcard vouchers :D
doesn't that mean you have to give money to tesco first?
I need to put our chamber magazine on it. We currently host our magazine on our site.
Who said commenting on Formula One during work hours is not productive!
Part 2
&
Part 3
@ Mr. C.
Will there be live-commenting saturday evening for the Indycar Finale?
i had this episode on my sky + for ages :D
I had no idea there were somany specialised magazines available so easily!
Some of them i just want to read because i cant possibly imagine them having anthing remotetly interesting in them!
can do. do you have any details. we can open a thread?
Better than Welding Journal?
for things we'd usually buy anyway?
I just tried PT journal. the Ads were a highlight...
I don't think Tesco deliver to Rockall
What if you dont shop at Tesco?
Or Waste Management World
fair enough. i don't tesco's or vouchers, so in a straight choice i have expensive paper version minus search. or cheaper and instant online version with search.
i can't lose.
Then you don't get clubcard points?
that's me!
But you have to have a clubcard and they track everything you buy...
I dont know why i worry about that when goggle effectively do that to me online..
you need to worry when they sell your data to insurance companies who put up your premium because you buy a lot of beer for a man of your age.
that is however, still some way off.
Race starts Saturday at 4PM ET.
That is I believe 5 or 6 hours behind UK time.
I just recieved an e-mail with the details.
Schedule can be found here: http://www.indycar.com/news/2009/homestead/HMS_sked.pdf
I have a friend who refuses to use cash point machines regularly
He takes out large sums of money infruequently
[He saw a program on it once]
{I think it must've been Enemy of the State instead}
Eek!
[Goes back to using cash]
can do then. you may have to remind us on saturday, as we're moving furniture all day.
isn't that really illegal unless you check the "i let you sell my soul to your partner companys"
:D :D :D
times change. one day it'll be the norm.
Sure, no problem.
Good luck on the moving.
You really think they care about that?
I am always paraoid about that... keep that to cash, dont even want them going though my card ;)
i'd have thought it would be illegal to be honest
As Mr C says, it is for now
we lost the war on privacy years ago. now we're wired to the matrix.
[may have seen a program on it once]
{or a movie}
maybe though a bank card, but i doubt it is though a loyalty card, especialy as tesco sell insurance
it is illegal
For those who liked / were intrigued by the big picture today:
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/10/the_berlin_reunion.html
The daughter was previously seen in London a few years ago and luckily Katherine and I got the chance to see it... And in London we had an Elephant!
Here's Katherine's flickr on the subject:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kat_hall/tags/sultanselephant/
And with that plug I bid you goodnight :)
Its all about limiting exposure... my gym membership is on my card so i look super healthy;)
Goodnight Sir Giggles
night sir.
night Giggles
perfect. you really need to worry when the breweries discount pints for clubcard holders.
"mr. nick. you've been spending a lot of time propping up the bar this month"
It's kinda why I'm sick to death of everything being monetized
If I thought I could have a secure future, I think I'd move to Laos
Seriously
Night Sir
That is really, really creepy!
wasn't it tesco who are trying to ban cash from their stores?
really?!
err... Its good exercise holding that bar up.....as you can see it must have been quite heavy with all those pints on it! ;)
I don't either. I also don't get my shopping habits registered on a database.
They do! I have quite a few from my time at uni... gave a fals name though
Night
There's also the Laguna ALMS race and the Bathurst 1000.
long term, i think so. it carries a lot of risk have so much of the stuff lying around. digital is easier, cheaper etc.
again, it's a long term thing. but the humble coins days will one day be numbered.
Michael Dorn is on Ch4 in Without A Trace
Looks so weird without his Worf make-up!
Can't watch
do you know kung fu?
I haven't use cash since I left Germany.
Is that more to do with cash handling though? That's why they don't take cheques now. Too much of a pain.
You can pay for stuff in Japan with your phone
Didn't they trial that here, in Starbucks or something
[Spits, excuse my language]
agreed. but it has beneficial side-effects too.
I need it for the odd bus journey, I really should get an Oyter, as it's half price
My coins go in the vending machine at work which is :(
*Oyster
wow. that's seriously impressive.
how do you get a trolley for shopping?
online ordering/delivery?
There is one vending machine here which you call/sent a message to and you pay through your phone. Haven't tried it yet.
My local only only has a coin slot for the newer slimmer version.
My friend has a key ring with a coin shaped disc that flips out for trollets
Most excellent
Generally disappeared into obscurity tonight. Been working on the Timo blog for some good content updates hopefully this weekend. Till tomorrow, bye! lotsa love.
Naughty people
Lovely chocolate
I'm single, I use a basket.
night rg. don't forget to plug.
See ya RG
YOU WOULDNT STEAL A SHOPPING TROLLEY
night
Knight
In quite a few shops here the trolleys are unlocked
A policeman told us off once for riding in an abandoned shopping trolley in the street. Said it was handling stolen goods
Idiot!
Good news mr c, according to a game I'm playing, you have created a swiss army knife.
I bet they have wifi routers too :)
hehe,I remember when i first saw a trolly park when i came to the uk as a kid...
In dubai they packed the bags for you at the till then a man too the trolley to your car and put your bags in the car for you and pushed the trolley back.
all the stores around me are like that i think, apart from one tesco i think
hehe
that explains what i did before i met christine.
:P
tis a new DS game called Scribblenauts... you have to complete the levels in the game by inputting words to spawn objects to solve the level. I input 'doohickey' and a swiss army knife appeared so well done on your apparent new creation.
yes but don't you live in Surrey..?
Try LCLT next
yes, its a scary place!
"Oops! Did you mean... Lunar Roving Vehicle?"
Wow. LCLT has an alter ego.
Have you been to Brixton?
Dogstar ;)
I remember when it was on fire
i remember when i wished it was ;)
perhaps that was a bit harsh, but it was a 6 month wait for a beer in there
Just back to the blogging bit for a second I just kind of realised that for the first 210 entries on my blog I didn’t even have a way to do comments. {Comment #665}
For the first 11 months I had a method of doing comments, but only if you registered for the forum. One of my readers pointed out that this was a stupid way of doing things and after some experimentation it became open to everyone in July 2007.
Incidentally, my blogaversary is 11th August, where the blog tradition is that I deliberately get people to ask me questions and I answer them (or at least start - I still haven't finished the question from 2007...)
Walt Mosberg says Windows 7 is closing in on OS X
Better but not best
nope
when did it get so cold!
Tuesday
I'm loving this colder spell :D
i wouldn't mind it if they turned the heating on in halls ;)
I am not made for this weather.. i may have english blood but my body clearly belongs in the tropics!
How you enjoying Uni so far?
I once worked in a hangar where it took the heating 5 days to react to the thermostat!
You can make bread but not use a duvet to keep warm!
For shame
Cold is when you go karting in January with Sidepodcast
Loving it, although last few days have picked up a general illness-y-thing. lots of headaches, bit of a cold. i usually get it around this time but being in the germ fest that is halls has made it come on quicker.
but course wise it's great (apart from the module which must not be named)
Best get it out of the way
:D
noooo cold is when you sit in wembley stadium on cold December day for nearly 7 hours watching ROC :D hehe
I don't mind too much, it's not in-bed-bad at all, or even close too, it's just annoying having a runny nose and a headache all the time
Your not going to bejing for this years then? ;)
Cold is work :(
also true.
It didn't put me off though, I'm game for this January but I'm bringing a jumper, a wooly hat .. a flask of soup and a camera
Jackie, you're Scottish
Did you move South for the weather?
ahahahahaaha.... no.
it was an awesome day and all, but i wouldn't pay that much to go see it.. :)
excellent. i'm bringing a balaclava.
Nope .. and I must admit I like it cooler.
Panda suits aren't warm enough?
ooo... i wont be going (i shouldn't have thought) but if i was going i'd bring a woolly scarf, a thick coat, gloves and my camera :D
in a kart?
A fire proof one then
And a MASSIVE helmet
In fact I'm still sleeping with just the comforter quilt on my bed. You know the 2 or 3 tog one that you have to make your bed look pretty
ah, you should come. book a hotel for the weekend. see birmingham, button and steven roy getting every smaller in the distance.
im not sure balaclava's do much in the way of heat....
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=OAK91151
;)
:D
agreed
I could offer you a bed at my place Lou
I would pay to see that
jenson is karting with you???
Is that Robbie Williams?
we havn't told him yet. he thinks he's doing a cupcake run.
for sure
:D awesome! i'm there! :)
It sounds like you want to put her on a barge and push her off down the canal
wow been off all day restart the doohicky and get a days worth of comments
hotel? hadn't thought of that. was tempted to go and drive there/back in a day
i hear the sights of Birmingham are just...so....visual.....this time of year
it's in January right? it will depend on when my retakes are i'm afraid. however if my retakes are all done and dusted by then/ a few weeks away then i may drag Emily up to Birmingham with me to come and meet you all and keep me company on the train journey up there.
I'm getting a few DD crashes when left to idle
no comment
hhehe i have a friend who is at birmingham uni, she's not too keen no birmingham itself lol!
hey. birmingham is rather lovely.
really!?
Is it a weekend?
ace.
autosport is. karting is just an evening... at the moment.
believe so
The walkabout there is most excellent, their were lots of really friendl...anyways, the bit around the canal is really nice in sumemr
:)
i haven't spoken to Em about this yet... but i'm sure she'll be up for it, depending on exam stuff. she wont really have much of a choice :P i'll tell her Heikki will be there if i have to ;)
Tell her Steven suggested it :)
he can't have much else planned this winter?
Is anyone going to that Mercedes thing in Surrey next month?
hey people! how are you?

This is why you can't remember other things!!
so very true.
Ah I thought you were on holiday
you're having a meetup? damn. i so want to come, but i don't think we can :(
Since I can't stop watching it, I thought I'd repost the Violin ladies doing System of a Down
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT3kim-pWCM
It's not like Guille's in Europe often
I hopwe so yes, i am doing something earlier in the day, but i think i can make it
on weekends, yes! I went to the Louvre and Pompidou last weekend, this weekend I'll go to London, and the next one... I don't know, I hope I'll be standing up by then...
night
that is a fact. we don't tend to move house that often either. will have a word.
I'm just kidding. I know you're busy
you could do the homepage on the train/car ;)
I forgot about that too!
I can come more often if you all want (and you pay the ticket or convince some conference organizers to do it...) ;-)
Guille, my pic's here btw
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Bassano+Clapper
how is that going?
For anyone interested, Sterophonics tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am
big things being moved on saturday, surviving on 3g connection at the moment.
at least you won't have to wait 3 months to get a 640kb connection... :P
do you already have a "new studio" area defined?
wow, hope its enough for the aside!
Are you using a helicopter to move them to the other side of the rock
nah, way off. the next live show will have to be done from one of our realtive's houses, so nothing is set bar the basics for f1 minute.
old skool sidepodcast.
borrowed spc-racers osprey: http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/images/AIR_MV-22_Osprey_Tilting_Rotor_lg.jpg
good point...
I'll be the guy with a red/white backpack and/or a camera bag...
(or you can try to get my face from below the helmet: http://guille2306.blogspot.com/2009/08/montana-nieve-medios.html)
Someone's mother-in-law making the tea?
Obviously
back to the source...
Gotcha, committed to memory
That's pukkha aircraft, love those
could very well be. as yet to be determined.
Special guests on the show?
Didnt Christines mum once comment on here?
the parade lap finale could be very interesting, let's put it that way.
see house-sits when we're at events to keep commentors in order.
*she
Ooh, didn't know there was one!
love it :)
i think so, if giggles can make it.
sidepodcast - it's a family thing.
It was your mother not Christine's. You must know the difference
ah yes. but i can't read :)
no christine's mum hasn't commented. but she did ring up during a live show once.
time to sleep. see you!
Did someone forget to leave the pinger on auto?
Night Guille
Night Guille
Night Guille
it's weird. has a mind of it's own.
or half-arsed, if you prefer.
g'night.
Night!
Ok, it's been quite accurate lately
No bother
Night
Oh no Dank is giving up his blog :(
Yeah, sadly
What?
Just read on my reader that he's giving up :(
but you know what must be really annoying is you get few comments, you say you are closing and then people tell you they enjoy your stuff .. poor Dank, it must be so confusing
I guess if it's for comments rather than hit rates then it's a shame as people seem to really enjoy it
Shame. At least he is doing it on his own terms
But it is hard work and it takes a lot of commitment, that's where I'm lucky with others to help as if it was just down to me, I'd only blog about twice a month
Oh I totally agree, just that if there were more comments he may have got more out of it
but that's okay too. you don't have to be prolific.
i'll be honest with ya. half a million comments is much harder work than 13. if you're short on time that is just about the last thing you need.
Bassano, you have inspired my to spice up my Wiki page a bit.
LINK: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Dan+Brunell
It's a catch 22 situation though, I get depressed about it whereas Mav appreciates that people are coming to read stuff even though they may not comment. I guess your own inner personality has a lot to do with it
I love it
- He is trilingual. He speaks English (western American dialect,) HTML, and French in German.
Me?
Linking my page for Guille?
Yeah.
:D
hehe, if thats awesome, if i write something could someone make a page for me that knows how to do so? i was thinking of doing it the other day but i didnt want to break anything, and i dont think chrome would let me..
Catching up on the comments.
That's too bad.
I'm going to go to bed, because i'm on level 30 of hte game that must not be named and i can't stop playing it!!!! ARGH.
Oh and i was 10 minutes late because i slept through 3 alarms (i still maintain they never went off), and tomorrow (today) i start at 8.15, funnnnnn.
Night all
Apparently Leo has given out some figures in a speech he made. TwiT pulls in well over than $1 million a year with costs of around $300k. Nice business
night John .. ooh bejewelled, am a bit adicted to that these days
not so much bejewelled....oh and -h ;)
hehe, night!
Tbh it would be nice to get the 13, though I also know as a reader of blogs it can be difficult to rustle up a comment.
holy...
It's a favorite!
I thought it might be more....
Apparently teh real figures are 1.5 and 350
Are you not making $1 million?
;-)
In my case I don't get too down about it.. but I tend to lose focus and let posts slip behind schedule. The odd comment here or there helps with that. I recognise that my usual posts aren't good material to comment on, ought to get back to the opinion stuff..
This is a shame. He's right, there aren't many Red Bull fan blogs/sites out there, and I wonder if that's because they are a 'new' team? I don't think many of the Jag fans went with them?
i takes your point. we will really push must comment monday during the off season and maybe see keep a list of who's taking part.
once you get into the swing of commenting it's easy. but during the race season the races get in the way.
Good luck waking up!
we're not making £1.
Boooo. You need Audible sponsorship.
Your posts are great Pat, loads of content. IU should make more effort to post on other blogs more often,
Maybe we need a must comment monday type thing where we write a comment on at least 3 blogs
i tried audible. i bought a book and hated it. the audio quality is awful, less even than most podcasts.
Didn't know that, money goes on advertising not audio quality then
If there was a simple list of person - blog it might be easier. I guess this is in the wiki somewhere? Anyway, sometimes its hard to actually find someones blog, if they dont always link to it with a comment they make here.
I know some bloggers shut down completely for the off-season, or at least they did last year.
Sometimes I'm sitting there after reading a really interesting post and I want to comment, but have nothing to add.. this is how I am in real life too.
They are not going to sponsor you if you say stuff like that. Think like Lewis and say shiny things about them
the rule:
- if a blogger publishes a post on a Monday and you happen to read it, then you must leave a comment.
easy!
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/11/08/must-comment-monday-redux/
Hmmm. Un-named energy drink?
They have some expensive people reading the books too
Alright quitting time. Off to play in my weekly soccer/association football match where I run for 10 minutes, weeze, light a cigarette, get my breath back, run for another 5 minutes, get in a fight with the ref and sent home by half time.
I will see you guys later.
:D
Good luck Dank
i bought a book by danny wallace that was read by danny wallace. for some reason they recorded him down a well.
so, in 40 minutes then?
but you see there's the thing, some people dont go saying they have blogged. I kinda feel spammy about plugging
Thanks! I need to slim them down a bit though. I used to post on all sorts of other blogs until about March, when the combination of accounts stuff and the racing season really swallowed up my free time. 2010 should be better. I keep meaning to join the PF forum.
Twitter is ok for that, is nicer when is added with, "see what you think?" or the like
(im not here)
have you met Alex?
See you Dan
...and I feel a bit silly making a comment if I have nothing to say. Do people want a "great post"? Maybe I should just do that.
That's just classy, it's an art
This would work well in Jan-Feb when all the juicy pre-season stuff is around.
in my case, i subscribe to blogs in google reader, and if i read a post, i have to comment. no need for plugging at all. just write a post on a monday (during the offseason).
jenson is karting with you???
we havn’t told him yet. he thinks he’s doing a cupcake run. {Comment #1238}
:D
(By the way, anyone wanting to come and kart should e-mail me so that I can e-mail you an invoice)
I guess, thanks, that really helped is good
As long as everyone doesn't post that
Asking for an opinion is a good idea at the end of a post
See I think that comes over as desparate
You see Alex plugs dont come across as plugs, they seem natural. I plug and it sounds desperate, so I prefer not to
MrC
Were you supposed to write a new daily?
I don't
It's better than a tinyurl link saying, "new post"
it’s in January right? it will depend on when my retakes are i’m afraid. however if my retakes are all done and dusted by then/ a few weeks away then i may drag Emily up to Birmingham with me to come and meet you all and keep me company on the train journey up there. {Comment #1245}
It's on Saturday 16 January, if that's any help to the planning.
ahhhhh. OK. Could you do a how-to in your "spare time"?
Does google reader link back to the source so its easy to leave a comment?
It's practice
And since when does Alex do anything the conventional way
It's why we love him
this page has more info:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/about/must-comment-monday/
but i can do, yup.
That is just like people hating their own voice. Get plugging
Plus he lets us know the best way to iron our clothes.
(again not here)
I think that nobody really minds if you just say, "i've written about XYZ: LINK", be as obvious or descrete about it as you want
I've got Mr C to plug International Sidepod Meet-ups to no effect
But it'll work one day
In fact, people are coming here instead! :)
OK, I'll check that. I feel over-whelmed with blogs a bit. I think the google reader idea sounds best.
That's how you do it ;)
i may not be selling you as well as i should.
No point in lying :)
Sometimes it is okay, sometimes it is "look at me! look at me!". Meh.
.
I prefer the understated approach, if people like it they'll pass it around.
I'm not here, but have you tried Shadowmagic? It's on iTunes as a podcast.
I will get them drunk
Are you coming to Australia?
me too :D
I get's it's a personal preference
I've been several times
But it'll happen again, I have friends in NSW & Vic
We might need a SPC google wave
we have beer......and drunks!
Yep, several links.
I am more than aware of that
And 24hr drinking :)
perfect.
at least, if not more.
Gold Coast Indy was a sight to behold, not to mention Bathurst weekend.
What does that mean?
I have finaly made a regulars page, but i dont hink i can link it to my name on the list... can anyone help?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Nick
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/SPC+Regulars
Are you using Doohickey or LCLT?
Put the Wiki page link in the "Website" field
I think Google reader is an RSS thingy. I just wanted to make sure it was easy to get back to the post to leave a comment if you use that method.
I mean the regulars page on the wiki... :D
I already have my blog in the comments link ;)
ah sorry I was being dumb .. maybe I'm more tired than I thought
On the Edit menu there is a little link (chain) icon. Click that while you are in the regulare page and highlight your name. It will ask you what page you want to link to and type Nick and itwill find it.
It changed the font slightly, but didnt add a link...
I have done it, i had to resort to the ever usefull IE ;)
Now that's something you don't hear every day.
bedtime. see ya tomorrow..
G'night Pat
I think me too, g'night
Night Jackie
---sneaks in
Something for the SPC companions...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQAbAZrbOkc
Possibly suitable for Christine in particular...
(totally OT, but I did remember this on a Thursday)
ta ta :)
Night Jackie and Pat
Hi LPG
How about that - I have used google reader before. Apparently the last thing I read was "Brawn to join Honda as team principal"
waves....
sneaking out again now - posting in one of those 'yawn they are *wideawake* and thus so am I' moments...
ttfn lovely peebles...
Night those leaving & ariving/leaving :P
Pesky hunger, getting in the way of my chillin' & recuperation
M|F|C Nuclear batteries next to your ear anyone? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8297934.stm
If Mr C is around there stil isn't a new daily post up
i'm here, is it not the 8th today? i had a whole conversation about a pinger not working with bassano...
hehe, Its the 9th i think... but a double day daily could be fun ;)
It's the 9th. I posted a comment about an hour and a half ago but I guessed you missed it
i'm so confused :(
for some reason i assumed the post had gone up, but the pinger broke. the post had been written but not scheduled. done now, soz.
When I saw Bassano's original comment I thought he meant there hadn't been any comments for a while so the scissor clicks had paused for 15 minutes. Before that it sounded like they were going automatically for ages. I could be wrong though.
