Today is apparently Inventor's Day in Europe, which is a day set aside to celebrate all things independent and inventing. This is good, as we have a wiki page setting out all the things the commentors want invented. If anyone is good with a hammer and stuff, then dive right in! Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Mr C and myself met up with some Sidepodders at the Mercedes-Benz day yesterday. We had a fantastic day, so thanks go to Jackie for sorting out the tickets. There are tales to be told and pictures to be shared, so stay tuned for that. Although, if you want a sneak peak, there are some shots on drop.io that we uploaded throughout the day.
- Meanwhile, it has been a quiet day in F1, but seeing Anthony Davidson behind the wheel yesterday started us pondering whether he will be racing next year. His final commentating duties for 5live did seem to contain a lot of goodbyes, and there are some new slots opening up on the grid. Where would he fit in?
- James Allen had a piece on his website yesterday about Williams CEO Adam Parr and his thoughts that the era of manufacturer's is over. He would be one of the first to say that though, and I know the man has ruffled some feathers in the past. Do we think this is the case or is he just trying to promote his own team and their independent status for a change?
That should cover it for now. I can't quite believe it's Monday again, but there we go. Let us know how your weekend went, and as ever, I'll see you in the comments.
i felt sick as this morning but double finn pictures helped. Magical healing powers!
i hear Mika even did wheelies is his golf cart
I'm drinking Bovril for the first time in ages. Sickly but warming.
they were blatantly waving at me in the picture of them together.
Heikki is looking straight at you

goodnight!
It's really quiet here... bye silent spooky room...
ooh its been a super quiet night!
Good morning :)
Indeed it has. :) Morning Alex and Amy!
As a morning treat, some awesome aerials from Singapore this year:
http://www.craigfergusonimages.com/2009/11/aerial-f1-singapore-at-night-by-wong-kin-leong/
what is this morning you speak of? I am home from work!
I've been away for most of the weekend. I feel totally Sidepodlost!
you missed Finns!
am awake. stupid early night ruining my body clock.
woah.
why did you go to bed early?
I saw that. And Lou's great Brawn photo!
was tired from being outside.
:)
I've always known outside was going to be trouble.
but outside is where the Finns are! Sometimes exceptions must be made.
It's morning in Europe - and it's just the start of my Euro-hours work day too. :D
Oh. MY.
Surely, Lou's excellent snapshot deserves a display in the Big Picture page? :D
:D
that's true. it's unlikley they'll come to our house.
haven't seen it, what's the link?
you never know.
Look at all the time you have to get things done today! Wow!
Morning all.
I hear the Mercedes thing was good fun - glad to hear it!
You all had a good weekend?
true. what will i do first?
i read somewhere you were stranded?
go back to bed.
:)
Morning all...Monday...
They will be when you make that long-awaited move to Kathi's. :D
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/4086935097/in/set-72157622763322220/
he may have taken your advice. ;)
That's a good point... what are you doing up so early? Have you not slept yet Mr. C?
I think he slept earlier than usual, so ended up waking up earlier than usual.
he went to bed at half past nine last night...
Is he sick?
#mfc
An Australian retail chain sells the most iTunes cards in the world! It happens to be the chain that I have a hand in managing the relationship between it and Apple. The article was written by Dave Richards apparently (because it's not possible there could be more than one).
JB Hi Fi Rocks!
don't think so...
big day at Mercedes.
I heart JB.
Great initials :D
Why is it MFC that the store is selling cards for an online shopping experience? Wouldn't it be more MFC if they sold online vouchers instead?
hmmm
not that JB! NOOOO!
Sorry, the headline, and my comments were misleading. The article is actually about them moving into selling more stuff online.
I see it now. One day all stores will be mostly online, eh?
Wont that be heaven?
Zoe and I have just spent approx 4 hours buying a thing (entertainment unit) to put the new tv on when it arrives later in the week. There are some things that will still have to be done the traditional way because we can't yet holographically project images of furniture into the house
Jenson Button? :D
So who knew the off season was so tiring. Seems like I had to catch up with everyone who I hadn't seen since the off season this weekend.
*since the last offseason
offseason begins after Macau GP ends, 10 days to go !
Ah somebody forgot to tell my friends! Whoops.
if i remember correctly, that is also the last race weekend for NASCAR. so that is really when the motorsport offseason well and truly begins. :)
Offseason is when A1GP is the only thing on Telly.... ooops!
V8 taxi racing in Australia finishes with a Sydney street race 5th December I think
Bloody hell, that's late!
Ahahaha! :D
Not so late when you consider it's the middle of summer there.
The rules dont change that much and they can run air-con if it's too hot for them. I say No Rest For You V8s!
But V8's are a winter series ... I don't think they do have summer motorsports in Australia?
I'm loving my air con so much right now.
I hate mine. 24 degrees in the office usually!
Lots of club level stuff. Checking www.cams.com.au, it shows nothing between 20th December and 17th January though
ooops :-)
it was 28 in my office today so it was nice to come home to 18 :D
How do you do that? That's illegal isn't it?
28? Illegal? Pffft!
probably. it's always too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
*yawns*
Morning all!
Morning! Are we still on for this evening?
Good morning.
Alas, in th uk at least, working temperatures aren't a legal thing. They're just guidelines. The WHO recommends 24 as a max but it's not enforcable. There's a legal minimum though. Boooo for mean employers.
Ye! coalhole good gor you?
or for... :P
I guess thats what happens when they get ageing rockbands to make employment law :P
There's such a thing?! Back in our old office building, there was a thermometer. On average, the temperature is around 21, but on cloudy/rainy days, I've seen it plunge to as low as a winter-y 16. In a tropical country. :D
it regularly got over 30 when I worked in the kitchen, I could often be found hiding in the fridges. It was so nice of them to install a new aircon system after I left.
16 is way too cold for anywhere dude!
Yup its good gor me :)
:)
I just emailed a travel consultant that my flatmate recommended. She says there are good sales on this week because of the travel expo. Next stop, London :D
Brawnsome :P
What time?
Does this mean we should go to the NZ pub tonight to celebrate?
NO.
But... But... im leaving london!
you can go, alone, and not tell anyone about it.
that is what I would think, but you aould be suprised what kind of temperature shocks people living in subtropical and tropical places prefer ...
hehehe... but it might seem like an alcoholic popping in!
its an NZ bar, they'll be used to it ;)
Ummm... I don't know. 6?
Alison is coming too right? Who else?
We need to recruit...
I have been less good at it than usual...
sounds good to me...
Bassano is not available as I remember?
I am not sure.. he did say something about working lates, but I havent seen him on here much, although i have only been on fleetingly for the past 4-5 days...
Can Janna be tempted?
Morning all.
Morning!
Morning!!
Good morning!
Was good to see you yesterday... lots of fun :D
Absolutely. I had a good day and best of all... I'm not sick yet!
Mr C seems to have been temporally confused!
hehe... It was cold though... maybe my photos are making it look a little colder than it really was!
Yes. I suspected this might happen.
You can see into the future...
Mr C is caught in a time paradox....
...hold on!
;)
Ah i missed this...
... he did do a lot off running :P
A lot of running?
Were Andy and LPGs kids there?
He was chasing Ant.
Sounds similar ;)
I prefer winter-y cool to tropical warm. :)
Hey Christine. :)
I have just heard from Katherine that she has overslept at home today... And has only just got up!
There's being late for work, and then there's waking up after you were supposed to be in work half an hour ago! Whoops!
Oooh. I was late for work today by about five minutes. This makes me feel better.
Its like Deja Vu!
Was she reading the comments yesterday?
I wasn't even reading the comments yesterday! I think I'm going to have to catch up!
Joe talks about the win-win nature of a 20-race season.
Not that I think Christine will agree, but if it saves the BGP and gets us a French GP, it can't be all bad.
Not much to catch up on, as most people were at Brooklands. Tons of pics on the drop, though.
Talking of which, anyone have ideas on how to stop the "it's so quiet" comments? Not sure they add much to the conversation.
They do seem to have proliferated... we couold all shhhhhhh them?
I would like Silverstone on the calendar, so whatever he has to do to fix that is fine by me.
The more races there are, the less we can do, but that doesn't affect the many people who would get to attend the race.
Ah, unfortunatly Jon missed his lift to brooklands :(
I don't know really. I was wondering about that. I mean it can't be all listen. If it's quiet people need to come up with something interesting to add I guess.
Hmmm. I would've thought that the sleeping pandas would've solved that. I guess a simple reminder to everyone will have to suffice.
On Fark.com they have ways of changing "first post" to other words automatically - could something like that be done on here and perhaps for swear words too? Perhaps we could come up with an alternate list for the swear words, followed by an automated reply that quotes the commentor and tells them they are on the naughty step?
I agree... But i wonder if it will mean an end to the summer break?
Very good point. Not to mention we see more racing, which in itself is a good thing. :)
Hmm, it's one way of doing things, but I don't really want to go changing people's comments before they happen.
We're working on the swearing thing.
It was quiet because I was out yesterday ;)
Given how tight the calendar is right now, it might. I don't think the paddock would be so keen on the idea of 3 races in 3 weeks.
Well it would be a funny idea if someone said the s-word and the website changed it to 'Ide', for example - and it might reduce the workload a little?
Sh...Ide? :D Not bad, not bad at all. :)
there is no way that the formatting for this table is going to work well. But the other week some people seemed confused on the compound interest on that 7% price hike per year (including Jake on the TV):
Actually I'll do it as a picture:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/silverstonepayment-gif
ps. there seems to be some spam on the drop
But, wait - the gap between Germany and Hungary is 4 weeks. They can schedule France on either end of that gap and still have a 3-week summer break. :)
Gawd, if any workload needs reducing it's that!
Hehe. I keep noticing something new. Britain and Germany is currently set up as a back-to-back. Most probable situation if France comes back is for it to be scheduled the week before Belgium.
Are you still planning to migrate away from drop.io?
That's insane - they end up paying twice as much in ten years? What's the current level of inflation and how much would that be after 10 years? Can you drop the excel file?
Erm, pass. I didn't know that was ever a plan.
Sure: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/silverstonepayment-xls
RPI-X in the uk currently stands at 0.4% So the number is nuts.
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/instantfigures.asp
I believe you!
Indeed. The 7 percent rate doesn't sound bad until you do the real maths.
Indeed. I just thought some people Bernie probably wouldn't normally use RPIX (even though he should). He'd probably use plain RPI, but weirdly right at the moment they are the same although that's not set to last.
So in case Bernie was swinging through the comments and wanted to check the background I thought I'd add the link :)
Quick back of the fag packet calculations using your sheet and RPI says that Bernie is asking for 184% of the original fee in year 10 - whereas if he asked for RPI then he would only get 104% - so he is asking for 80% more!
No wonder this man is trying to get all the Grands Prix in new money countries if these are the 'easy' terms!!!
If inflation stayed at its historic lows (as it is now) in 10 years you would be paying 18.7 million (so quite a difference to 35.4)
Does Inflation go up or down if the economy improves?
Up, I think. An improving economy means people are able to spend more.
no more messing with the calendar since I am booking flights this week. It's not allowed.
It has to go up... its curently effectivly stagnenet.
Governements try to control inflation by keeping it at about 2% for stable growth.
However the current crisis might suggest that this target was too low and 3% might be better.
I suspect Belgium won't be affected. But those before it might.
Gosh, that is quite the commitment. I hope to see a blog entry about this soon.
the sales at the moment are amazing! Must strike while the dollar is strong and the prices are low :)
I should be booking my flights this week too :D
Ah, good. Don't tell me now, tell me in a blog post :)
OK. When they're booked. And that kindle post too. Yep. One day. But did you see I did 3 transcripts? :D
I did, I am very impressed! Will sort them out asap.
#mfc
Firefox is Five. :D
it's easier than blogging because Joe has done all the thinking :D
Yeyyyy. Renault-sport media login :D woop woop.
how are we all this morning?
If Firefox was relaunched today, would it have a really dumb mispelled name like browsr or wrigglr?
and British F3 has just come through too.
today is a good day
either that or they would just merge to words together to create something equally as silly...
like Net-scape :P
I didn't know scape was a word by itself!I have learnt something today.
iSnack2.0? :P
I read this article from September for the first time today.
History of HTML
The web tells me it is a combination noun.
I guess that means it is a poor cousin to the selfd important 'pro'-noun :P
Is there any better feeling than panicking about a deadline, only to find it has been pushed back a day.
I am talking work here, not Donington. :)
As long as you didn't pull an all-nighter before finding out, yeah!
Haha. I wouldn't do that.
postponed > pre-poned
:)
How do you do that? That’s illegal isn’t it? {Comment #73}
Not in the UK. There's a minimum temperature (13.5 or 16 degrees Celcius, depending on the nature of the work carried out therein) but no maximum temperature other than a vague "safe and comfortable environment" clause.
well, the number is nuts but that is what CVC is about ...
I got my assignment deadline pushed back nearly 2 weeks today! Woot!
Also, morning!
Two weeks is even better than one day!
Our lecturer said he had to go to mayalasia on our typical Monday lecture, then he said the week after that would still be impossible for him so he pushed it until the end of that week. Yay!
It's the best thing ever.
You know what... Even in those crazy situations you still get a free day to cross the Ts and dot the lower case js
I have just seen that the lottery has a double rollover jackpot of £11 million pounds. Tempting.
I wonder if Derran Brown will enter this week :D
go for it. everyone on sidepodcast wins everything all the time. (except for me and that trip to singapore/italy/britney)
That could buy you a Franck to join the SPC team
I saw that programme and all that happened was that he annoyed me. Why do I fall for that every time?
It could also buy SPC a lot of cool equipment. :)
With £11m SPC would be awesome.
you could donate a Milky Bar to all of the Sidepodfans
Yes, absolutely. It's only fair to share the wealth.
We told you at the time how annoying it all was! :D
The man riles me!
I am watching James May's show and now I want a plasticine garden.
I saw a white choclate Kit Kat chunky in dubai, i completly forgot to take a pic or buy it!
they have those here, they're OK but not as good as the other ones.
Hahaha, we've had one assignment pushed back, and now everyone is complaining about the other one!!
To be fair, this one we're talking about now is absolutely disastrous. We can do the one that was pushed back but this C++ assignment I dont think anyone understands at all. :(
grrrrrrrrrrrrrr c++ grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So apparently the first iPhone worm has been released.
2 things
1) It only affects jailbroken phones - so who's fault is that?
and
2) It sets your wallpaper to Rick Astley.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8349905.stm
gosh, thats quite the rickroll.
so i can't sue christine for insisting it be 30+ at all times?
really confused.
:D
the appeal of drop.io wanes daily!
yes.
Christine told me she was sensible and put on a jumper!
Lies!
Wherever we go can it be e-mailable?
I'm sure, however, that this is where much of the spam comes from.
yep.
spam is easily solved. akismet fixes everything.
am assuming that drop.io refuse to use akismet for political reasons, rather than logic. although i did find it amusing that the developers got annoyed at google the other day because their google group became littered with spam.
heh.
so i can sue you?
It's only the problem of the iPhone not having background tasks. E-mail is the only one which makes a huge difference because otherwise when you are uploading a video you can't do anything else which becomes boring fast.
litigation tends to have negative effects on a marriage.
4 seconds in between 2 replies? that's impressive.
understatement much? :D
I would very much like to see you try.
I may need to hold off on winning the lottery if I have an impending court case.
I would act for Christine's defence. The other week I said I was going to put a jumper on instead of turning the heating on and she told me that that was what she did - FACT.
Although if it does turn out that she is making it hot I would have to be on Mr C's side...
Troubling times ;)
boo.
although it doesn't appear to have hurt spandau ballet.
thats because they know this much is true.
i can confirm she does this, and sometimes a coat too.
still that isn't warm enough. she is quite odd y'know ;)
very hot :)
oh. i forgive you.
Prima Facie evidence: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/10/02/daily-2nd-october-2009/#comment-524063
And they also have lots of GOLD!
Christine, do you have bad circulation or something?
#sameperson
I get harrassed at work for wearing a ski jacket when everyone else is in a tshirt. But it's cold! why don't they realise that?
Ah yes... I think I have discovered the issue... She's a girl. Girls are normally cold...
Now I'm simply not sure what to do.
true story.
they're indestructible.
Then you get people like me who suffer because there's always one of you that has to make it too hot for the rest of us!
*And give you the eeevils!
A ski Jacket!
I thought you were from the frozen south?
That's not a very polite thing to ask a lady, is it?
but we have no say over the temperature, it's set by management so don't blame me!
I have a theory that I am working on that some people are much more sensitive to drafts than others. And often people of a female persuasion are more susceptible to said drafts.
So while the temperature in the room is fine, if there is a draft... your common or garden male will tend to think, "oh good - fresh air", whereas your female will say, "eh up? There's a draft in here... lets put the 'eating on!".
I say bring back the draft excluder!
that is why I moved to a country that is having its longest run of hot weather in November since 1929. Hooray!
#sorryChristine
I ask because my wife does - she's always cold (Her hands are bloody freezing!)
I have knitted a few of those in my time. I make them look like sausage dogs.
i may have uber-circulation
yesterday, in a field, i looked at five shivering people (two of which were men), and asked what the issue was? i was toasty at the time.
Sadly in our office we can tweak the temperature. It's a very bad idea!
yes! i have that at work especially.
I think I may have an affinity with you there. Often I get too warm when dressed like everyone else. I run in 3 degrees in a T-Shirt!
I would act for Christine’s defence. The other week I said I was going to put a jumper on instead of turning the heating on and she told me that that was what she did – FACT.
i can confirm she does this, and sometimes a coat too.
still that isn’t warm enough. she is quite odd y’know ;)
Christine, do you have bad circulation or something? {Comment #224}
She doesn't - she has the same model of circulation as me, but a superior model (I have been known to wear waterproof coats in the middle of heatwaves...)
Correlation of this data to Alex's theory remains incomplete.
Morning all.
Urg! Home alone, recuperating from a dodgy curry last night. Did everyone enjoy themselves yesterday?
agree. my argument is that laws and common decency disallow us from taking off and more clothes (unless by the beach).
cold people can put more on though.
In the office, the men have desk fans on at the moment.
Which I do!! You're the one that always puts the heater on. It's not my fault that you're all chivalrous and stuff.
Bloody hell - I say exactly the same thing!
I had Trinidad Curry Duck yesterday - very tasty and spicy!
I have no problem putting more on, but I don't like being harassed for it :(
yup. lewis confirmed the british gp will be at silverstone next year.
me too!
#sameperson
he did? how so?
alex. you need to expand on your theory and blog it good sir.
Hehe a) I had been swealtering in the desert less than 24 hours earlier!
b) I wasn't cold... that coat was fine for November!
We are not allowed fans - they get confiscated!
he said:
"of course there will be a british gp next year"
he may have regretted saying it a split second later mind you..
Where I was working last week, there was a running joke that reception would always be freezing while the upstairs offices would be roasting. Simultaneously.
Needless to say, this caused a few minor disputes about whether and when to have the heater on or off. Fortunately, there are no settings on said heater to refine the amount of heat it kicks out into the system...
in our office we all got told off for plugging in speakers for our mp3 players. we got told we are not allowed to "steal" power from the company. I think that must rule out fans too.
I concur with this thinking :D
I just checked the news, they are now saying hottest since 1902. It just gets better!
i guess the other issue is, you make us all feel guilty for insisting you're all dressed up like bibendum.
What about charging your iPod via USB?
:D heheh.
apparently we're also not allowed to do that either, but I charge both my walkmans and my cellphone via USB and no one has yet told me to stop
The thievery!
Poo! Mind you, I am not surprised!
it shocked me when I went on secondment back in June and everyone at that office had heaters running under their desks. The sheer amounts of power stealing!
This is true... if someone has to put a coat on indoors i feel bad.
But if i am in dubai, less so... they could just open a window :P
It truerly is a nation of convicts!
Think of the Joules!
there is no solution :(
when I came home today my flatmate was ironing in her underwear. The complete opposite of putting a coat on. I find it very strange but she does it all the time.
If you have come to this conclusion, I don't think you're going to get very far convincing the courts.
has created a set and added a picture:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/sets/72157622642949535/
it's very likely the flickr group will remain in this very state for many weeks/months. #sorrychristine
Boo.
I had to read that 3 times beofre i realised i was missing the word 'in'
I thought ironing underwear is pretty hardcore, but i was very confused about the connection to wearing coats!
But Jules is in the UK?
hehehe. fair point.
I will do that very thing. I had been planning it since it started getting hotter again.
Although, he is the hero of us all and therefore probably deserves his own set.
Mrs C once worked for a company that had very similar temperature strangeness. Her desk was near a very hot pipe so that she was always warm, even if the rest of the office was cold; and if they turned the heating on she would roast. Or something like that.
My home 'office' is on the north-westerly corner of the house so it gets very chilly in winter, even with thick socks, etc. What I really need is a cat to come in and deposit him/herself on my lap.
That sounds delicious. Well, we deviated from our favourite curry house because they don't deliver, and we didn't have time to sit and wait for a take-out because it was getting late and we had to get home to feed the cats.
:D
Judge Joules?
remember, as your write it, that i may be using your conclusions in evidence against christine...
#notfinnishenough.justlikenico
No pressure then ;)
What's he done now?
That sounds very mean. I don't think I'm a big fan of your company.
You know how the BBC steal everything we ever do and all they do is read everything we say and then write about it (this may be exagerating slightly)...
They have been reading Lukeh's mind:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8330573.stm
:P
He is the hero of us all and joined the ranks of mr c's bff's yesterday!
that was his introduction from rider.
noooo, shhhh!
How so?
It would have been the funniest thing of the day if it wasnt for Heikki!
Having endured one winter with 2 hours heating on a day i can safely say i'm now a layers person indoors...
are those sausage rolls square?
poor Heikki :(
They had a moment.
Cakes keep you warm :P
Ooooh....
What kind of moment?
Lewis and Mr C sitting in a field....
#-C-O-N-F-I-D-E-N-T-I-A-L
best article I have ever read
I am hungry now :(
It is clearly not a sausage roll because the label says chicken something.
#badbbc
phew, I was going to say, what is this crazy backwards land I am coming to visit?
Sounds like a plan and a half! I'll get my gas money and spend it on cake... It is yum though. I had pancakes this morning. Not sure if they count?
At the very end of the article a branding expert says: "We may not adore Greggs in the way that we do some other brands, but we understand the role it plays and for whom that's relevant."
Speak for yourself!
#adoresgreggs
I adore Greggs!! Also, there are 2.5 million sausage rolls sold a week. I may be responsible for about 4 million of these
#mathsparadox
So Alison are you already down in London somewhere?
they do have cake in the name I think that must count.
Yah. I'm off out to bethnal green this afternoon. Not sure i'll be able to drag myself away...
All the more beers left in the pub for us....
Grrr. my scanner doesnt support linux.
What this OS can actualy do is a complete mystery...
Booooo! Toys > Beer
What toys are you getting?
:P
If your going to a glorified toy shop, do i get a present? :P
I'm doing well with my assignment work today for c++
And not a piece of source code in sight.
What's your assignment, anyway?
Torture, thats what it is!
S'all about artifical intelligence and logical solutions in C++... I have no idea. Can you tell that I hate it?
An artificially intelligent sausage roll?
I'm not off to Harrods... If you wanted a present you should have reminded me. I'd hav brought something cumbrian down with me.
That is terrifying, yet tummy-fillingly intruiging.
Kendal mint cake?
I am pastry-wrapped, therefore I am?
Surely you're aiming for a better mark than that!
#sorryeveryone
Kendal mint cake is a bit gross. If i had any i'd happily give it away... We have nice local fudge or many organic farm products.
I don't like it either but it was the only authortatively Cumbrian thing I could think of in a flash!
On th topic of philosophical pastry, i once had to write an essay entitled 'Am I a pork pie?'
Could she not steal something from M-Sport (who run the Ford Focus WRC cars)?
hehe i was only kidding!
And were you?
Sounds tasty.
Depends if you are Montoya...
He would have eaten himself by now.
Reminds me of the Wendy Cope poem...
http://frombooksofpoems.blogspot.com/2007/03/uncertainty-of-poet-by-wendy-cope.html
hey everyone, at uni. so will need to be quiet ;)
Ahh C++ *runs away*
I'm pretty sure i decided on no... My philosophy teacher had a bit of a wacked world view.
Its very
quietLOUD here todayI wish I was a pork pie
shh you. doohickey has reminded me that i have the sound on. :)
*is not here*
no one told me there was a brawn parade today in Brackley.. there are brawn flags and everything apparently.
There is a running joke in my office concerning my consumption of bananas...
had no idea. bit late notice, or i coulda gone along :(
you could have got me a flag! :P i just noticed on twitter that @alanbaldwinf1 is there... Brawn really need to advertise these events more :P
' Cold and foggy in Brackley. Jenson's car on display in square and Brawn flags being handed out.'
link
am thinking it's probably the first chassis with the number 22 on it that we saw yesterday..
Ooh, coool
I hate this train so much! It was late. Now the announcing man won't stop announcing!
But its his job to be fair to the poor guy :P
Nick Fry is there and thus its not worth going to.
I have been plagued by delays every day for two weeks and it's driving me mad. Things got too much yesterday when I was trying to get to my mate's house in the suburbs of Copenhagen. It takes just over an hour to travel from Odense to Copenhagen (150km), yet it took another hour to travel the 15km to his house, because there were lineworks and no replacement buses!
So this morning while commuting to work, I was very happy to see that someone had sprayed 'F--- DSB' on the side of one of the subway trains - took a pic and everything :D
He probably has to hit various announcement benchmarks set out in his job description ("'Announcing man' Your function is to announce..." etc)
It's a stupid job! He's giving me a headache. Luckily i'm nearly there...
Not to mention the secret announcement listner who could be on any train at any time...
At least there isnt a train entering the station alarm ala the Brazil pits
promotion team are busy this week.
On the trains from my house they seem to constantly be interested in telling me which carriage I am in. This is carriage 3 of 4. Why? WHY?
Does the train split later on?
It would also be helpfull for people who loose stuff?
can i recommend people read andrew benson's latest tweet:
http://twitter.com/andrewbensonf1/status/5558519521
and hopefully feel motivated to respond. i have here:
http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/status/5559166614
journeyer, now would be a good time to start a twitter account. just saying.
Done sir. Next request? ;)
at ease sir.
I blame the Banana chips!
can't see them damn college filtering. grr.
I have... not quite the same tack, but if we cant kill it, maybe we can change it
Im sure he secretly has one :P
It's a good one Nick.
"Have decided to do a semi-regular f1 gossip column on BBC - check it out http://bit.ly/2E4i2O"
that's a fair point too.
Did we already know that STR are keeping their drivers next year? I forget what we know and don't know.
I think STR keeping their drivers is a 'known unknown'...
Ah, ok. I thought this was a weird announcement.
thank you mr c :)
i think, given neither have been punched yet. they'll probably remain.
I have gone for: Have heard a rumour @andrewbensonf1 is starting an #f1 gossip column. Don't believe the rumour as it's a stupid idea!
:)
they mentioned it a while ago and took it back http://www.tororosso.com/Season/2009/Japan/News/Musical-Chairs/
:D :D
Trust the writer amongst us to come up with the wittiest response ;)
Given that the top stories on the page are GMM non-news, a very timely slap on Auntie Beeb's wrist!
I'm in the process of joining...
http://twitter.com/teamSCboard
Excellent!
w00t!
It has just taken me 50 mins to do something on linux which would have taken me 5 on xp
Conclusion... Its Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrubish!
Ah. Think I may have broken Twitter already, or forgotten my password, or something.
Awesome... have followed :D
No, you are using stuff bought and optimised for XP and windows products - essentially the wrong way around. Had you started clean with a Linux system you would have bought a scanner accordingly.
Its not GMMFTW is it?
The very fact you have to think about that is central to the problem. Until the OS becomes user friendly it is largely useless to people like me
true story.
i coulda told you that months ago :)
But it is user-friendly. It is like buying a petrol car and trying to adapt it to another fuel, when you should have bought a car that supported it anyway!
Why didnt i listen...
I am considering getting a mac as i need a new laptop for my job, but the company apparently arent keen on them
I have alkso e-mailed you Mrc C as i cant DM on twitter ;)
There is a really neat operating system based on Unix I can recommend ;)
Because you assumed it would be 'Free Windows' - it isn't that at all. It is an entirely different operating system with some nods to the Windows GUI and DOS prompt.
That'll be it. Normal service is resumed.
*Apple GUI
*Unix prompt
Well that too depending on which ones you use.
Heck, they all stole the GUI concept from Xerox anyway...
All this tech stuff is giving me a headache. I'm going to go and have a lie down.
Ha! I think Twitter has that effect on a lot of people.
we've talked about this before, but renault did their HTTT thing for journalists again the other week:
"I've been rattling around in this carbon-fibre cigar for all of three minutes, and I feel lightheaded. I ache, but I'm elated. It's like a hangover, but after the best party ever and one that I'd been planning for years. "
http://www.metrof1.com/blogs/metrof1/2009/11/let-this-be-my-groundhog-day.html
i know based on one of christine's blog posts she likes chocolate pretzels, so when i stumbled across this... i thought i should tell her.
they are expensive... but look yummy :)
Mmmm, pretzels.
Yeah... I meant what they were aiming at, but point taken about Xerox.
I remember reading an interview with Steve Wozniak when he was talking about their trip around the Xerox park. They were invited by the engineers because Xerox were refusing to put their ideas into production.
The legend was that on that day they showed the Steves 3 things. They were the mouse, networked computers (with a shared file system) and a GUI (with WYSIWIG).
But apparently there were five things that they saw, according to Steve W. They also met with the 3d Graphics team who when Xerox stopped paying the bills went on to found a company called Pixar.
And they also showed them a concept piece called the dynabook: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynabook which is basically the iPhone.
Its like having a petrol car which brakes down and it needing a new engine... someone says here try one of these diesel engines they are more fuel efficient. IS it harder to use than my petrol one? no... just different.
You drive around happily for a few days untill you discover nowhere sells the fuel you need for the car, so you have to spend a lot of time driving to to other petrol stations to get some.
Then you discover that the winndscreen woipers dont work... you fins some instructions to adapt them, but they are so complecated and without proper explination you decide you need to get new ones. which again you have to spend a lot of time driving around looking for.
Eventualy you realise that although the new engine is shiney and fuel efficent, the old engine, which did break down occasionly was better, because you knew how to fix it, and there were plenty of people willing to help you. If you wanted a new bit it was no trouble to find....
That was mentioned in 'Pirates of Silicon Valley' too, I think...
I watched the pixar story documentry, i think it was on one of the discs to Wall-e. to be honest it was one of the best films i have ever watched, even better than the robot film i was supposedly borrowing!
:D hehehehehe. ;)
But if you had listened to the person who told you to try the diesel engine, he would have warned you not to expect the same experience of driving the petrol engine, that you can't drive it the same way, that the same parts would not work and that you would need some more mechanical skills to get the best out of it.
I drive diesel cars the same way as petrol ones though?
I would have thought you would drive them slightly different, although I have never driven an oil-burner.
Certainly you change gear earlier and you drive in lower revs because the torque band is lower, right?
I think Motorbike and car would be better metaphors.
Yaaaay sensible Internet access!!
I drive an Auto Diesel so i wouldnt know about that bit... but it seemed to be the same as an auto-petrol
Possibly a slight ajustment for the turbo, but thats pretty intuitve its not really conciously changing the way you drive...
doh! thread fail.
a quick plug for mike garth, who we first met at the beginning of the year. he's had some amazing success in '09:
http://bit.ly/dBGmv
you are andrew benson aren't you?
Heart Mike!
Im suprised the word 'Yaaaay' is allowed on the sensible internet?
I'm not sure what you've all done to me. This time last year I had a broken laptop and I didn't bother to get it fixed for another 4 months.
Does anywhere know where i can get passport photos taken?
is there a web directory of places? the only booth i can think of is in charring cross station in london, even then i am not 100% sure its there...
There is one there.
You worried you might have borg implants after sidepodpubbing?
Also one in Embankment tube (just down the road).
Apparently Alex is the directory.
no, but i wish i had his job. :D
I don't even know exactly what that is... I presume it's sleep related in which case I seem to survive on very little as it is!
i think it's fair to say his systems work rather well.
Is there one in Staines?
I am going to have to go and risk it...
the procedure is nuts... i need to have 2 passport photos, scan them then email them!
For your visa?
Afternoon, am currently discovering the problems of trying to interview racing drivers who are also students....
How are we all today?
NICE ONE, Stuart!
Yes.
That they are quite busy?
How do you know these things??
That they don't always stick to the time they told you ;)
I have 45 minutes to burn now....I shall use it productively writting a Formula Two guide
Well to be honest... That was a guess. The other two are accurate. In the whole of Stains there must be a photo booth though right?
www.alexistheyellowpagesandgooglemapscombined.com
Ah, I see.
Hehehe most camera shops or post offices take passport photos for you as well.
♥ stuart.
I have come to the conclusion that you are all much smarter Twitterers than I!
but you're still smarter than andrew benson.
am curious to see if he'll reply... to stuart, at least.
True, but I would certainly have hoped so considering the list of websites in that gossip column is the opposite of the 'Websites you can trust' post on here...
mav makes a great point too:
@andrewbensonf1 Regarding the gossip column - why not just sign up to GMM and save yourself even more effort?
http://twitter.com/PitlaneFanatic/statuses/5561223993
please please please tell me Mr Benson posted a GMM link?
Most of them are GMM sourced
not for the first time this year, by any stretch.
And a Planet-F1 link!
Which reminds me, I subscribe to Autoblog, which is an excellent source of automotive news... however, the F1 stories posted are often a week old and from F1-Live (which just buys GMM), so I find myself and others repeatedly asking them not to bother if they are just going to do that!
Afternoon all.
Watching 1994 British GP on Star Sports. While the commentary isn't Walker (we get crappy Slater), the picture quality is EXCELLENT. :D
Nick...
Of course... There's a site for that...
http://www.photobooth.net/locations/index.php?locationID=49
Photo booth search
Not a very good site... But a site nevertheless
That was a weird race - I remember rushing back from a day out in the hot sunshine to watch the highlights in the evening...
Weird for a lot of reasons too. It seems that Silverstone served as the turning point both in 1994 and 2009 - although both championship leaders did hang on. :)
Hello all, not here as at work, just wanted to let Nick, Alex & Alison know I can't make sidepodpub tonight. Sad won't meet Alison but it's just not practical as I have to work tomorrow. Hope you have a great time, looking forward to the live streaming ;)
Hi RG. How's it going?
Wishing the school had more heaters, hows sidepodcastland today?
Ah yes... The live streaming... Better get some of that to happen!
It's hilarious - it's an F1 Classics series, and yet Rubens Barrichello is here! :D
What a man
Sorry we won't see you Janna! Shame.
#rubensfacts
Rubens has been racing for such a long time that he has become a master before he stopped f1
Indeed so, Lukeh. Indeed so.
Oh god don't get me going!
Rubens was racing before the World Wide Web became available to all.
Rubens is the only man on the grid to have raced against Senna, Prost, and Mansell.
Rubens was racing before Windows 3.1 was ever sold.
Booooo! Sorry to hear that
I have a question for you all actually...
Even though he didn't have a prolific winning record or win a championship, in a decade or two do you think Rubens will be considered anything near a legend? Obviously I don't mean Senna/Stewart/etc kind of legend but... hopefully you understand what I'm getting at when asking this. Someone asked me a few weeks ago and I reckon so... I can't sere why he wouldn't be remembered for his dedication to both be, as well as managing to stay, in F1 all this time.
I think he would be remembered in a similar light to Gerhard Berger (who enjoyed a similar level of success). He won't be known to most casual fans, but anyone who's followed the sport for some time will remember and love him for his connection to Ayrton Senna and his love and dedication for the sport (just like Berger).
Hmmm...
I can remember who he is, therefore he is of legendary status.
If we are honest... It is hard to think he will be well remembered. By ardent fans he will be remembered as possibly the nicest man in F1.
If you ask people on Sidepodcast who Chris Amon is they will tell you he was a legend. But even on Sidepodcast not everyone will know who he is.
Well that's it sealed... That's from Christine off the internet.
Don't panic!
I think he will be remembered like Patrese - a nice guy who stuck around for a long time, won some races when his team mate became champion and then retired in a car not quite as good.
This is a good point. It's a wierd one because, even though his record will probably stand for a while what with it soon to reach 300, and as Journeyer put it, casual fans will probably be unknowing of him in future generations of F1 fans because he was never a true stand out F1 star. Bit of a shame but that's f1 for you at times :P
Although Christine did say he is of legendary status.... :P
I think he's better than Patrese - unlike the Italian, Rubens actually contended for a championship once in his career. And also unlike Patrese, there were days when Rubens simply thrashed the field (like both his wins in 2003 and this year too).
The 300 is huge. As will be the longest gap between starting and final race which is currently held by Graham Hill (and Rubens will get it in Bahrain). In some ways this is the purer stat because there are more races these days.
But with drivers starting younger and younger. It's hard to say if it will stand?
Depends how long they stay in the sport I suppose. It stills so odd to me that, next year, Kimi Raikonnen will be celebrating a decade in F1!
Doesn't feel that long ago he was starting out in his little Sauber
*remembers livery* :D
That is true. I wonder if someone will point it out then.
It depends. Most super-successful drivers don't stay this long - they tend to leave once they've achieved the success they wanted. The crappy drivers obviously don't stay this long (except Andrea de Cesaris, I guess, but he's an exception). Those who stay long are usually drivers that are imperious on their day, consistently at the top (although not always winning), and a safe pair of hands - perfect rear gunners for possible champions. Look at Barrichello, Coulthard, Patrese, and Fisichella, among others.
As will Alonso.
With 20 races a season and drivers starting at 19, I would wager it will be broken soon...
Hmmmmmm...
Im back... arrival in london might be delayed to about 6... will try tyo make it over by 6:15
#Blamelinux #blametraffic
I include in live streaming such things as writing comments here about what's happening. Not just yer actual video - honest.
Speaking of live streaming... did anyone watch yesterdays qik?
I'm confused. Where have you been? Do you have pictures? #blamesnick
If you were to ask N Roebuck who Chris Amon is, he would probably say, "He must have run over a nun, or something."
Then he'd say, "Who are you, anyway?"
I have been to st aines on thames to aquire photos!
I have them!
Scanning...
I thought it was every guest post... not every comment ;)
problem... photo is curved... scanner not flattening them...
I alo have decide which shirt to wear and iron it!
#pressure!
I'm waiting to get it in response from A Benson...
hehe, do you know him?
That was definitely worth the wait...
I am quite dissapointed though...he only said for sure once....
:D
OMG i cant belive anyone spent the time to write this OS, it cant even open a USB drive now :(
Giving up, will have to do it later.
Awwww haha you mean you could just have taken the pictures when you were going in anyways? Silly boy...
yes... and i have just missed the train :(
Awww I'm sorry. I'll stop laughing now. So what is your revised estimate? I'm sure I'll still manage to be late.
Asuming the train company doesnt run ubuntu 6:30?
over there at 6:45... wearing unsuitable coat...
Stuart's latest tweet just made me spit my drink out in laughter :(
You mean this one? :D
*laughs again*
:P :P
:D Ahhhh. :D
I have arrived at the venue!
Ah!
#DontTellAlison
Oh erm well Nick just told me not to leave yet. I knew that was bad advice :P
#alex I'm going ro be a bit late... sorry! Will try to be there at 6:45 ...try to get the sidepodcast table if you can :D
I think I may have just made my week with a fact i've just discovered....
FakeSebBuemiMum is in the list ... "georgeous-men"
love it
Is that the one we were on?
I have a different coat!
oh dear. Don't listen to him!!! Heh!
#ontime ;)
what's on the menu?
I so didnt!
Go! Call me if/ when you get lost! It's really easy to find!
wait wait wait. are you taking Alison Sidepodpubbing?
I am upstairs at the moment. I just wanted a table. I'll see what I can do.
Must dash to bed now. For those at the pub, enjoy yerselves. :D G'night.
Pint of Guiness at the moment.
I'll post a menu shortly.
Thats definitely not then! ;)
Byee!
oh yes.
are you latitude-ing?
:S I hadn't prepared myself for this... You should have asked alex to come find me!
Oh my
Sidepodpubbing sounds fun, if only I didn't live on the other side of the country ;)
i think there may be a big meetup before xmas.
It's probably best that you stay away ;)
Fine I will leave! In theory I'm only 15 minutes away. If I don't arrive well I'm blaming you...
don't go giving me ideas.
and why is that? :P
yay! :)
head from embankment to the strand and walk....
When you see a pub called the.coal hole look for a man with a steam decider
it'll be funnn if theres lots of us :D
lets just say, that if you live on one side of the country, you may unwhittingly be going back on the other :P
:D
turn right! Pub is quite a way down on the right ;)
i think we just start a another on this side of the country. :P
:)
#titlefail: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/92852813/Getty-Images-Sport
Jarno's really upped his acting skills
yay!
isn't he just!
No it's right, but it's ironic. like saying "Toyota were always skating on thin ice"
No?
What's wrong with the pic? That's Toyota's lead designer on the left and the chief mechanic on the right :)
:)
can do.
he he
Aww this reminds me we won't get to see Toyota's epic sequel to 'Unveiling New Car' :(
I think Kobayashi could have been in with a shout for an oscar with his bigger role
Not here.
The one in red and white is not leading. Noemal Toyota
maybe not looking at thelistener map, lukeh is still the closest to me and we're seperated by several miles of water :)
I guess we will be discussing the awesomeness of the last race..
Normal
Latitude working now.
yay:
http://sidepodcast.com/playground/location.php
I love that there is a picture of Alex :)
:)
they've named a drink after morrissey?
you may need to try it... just like everybody else does.
do you still have the thing to turn mine on?
You.could all watch the dots converge... riviting! :D
i don't sadly.
i have a rough idea where you're heading :)
oooh I may have to.
I keep seeing lost ladies clutching mobile phones walking towards me. One of them is bound to be Alison eventually.
ah no. Worries.... currently at vauxhall heading for waterloo...
this is the second time in two days that page 22 has missed a day out :P
doh!
*whispers*
I'm not sure alison was around when page 22 happened
Hehe I don't have a copy... #beforemytime
aahhh... well no doubt Alison will stop and ask someone approachable for directions soon.. chances are that will be Alex :)
I'm so confused! I might jus go back to th tube and wait...
I have a copy. But page 22 is tucked up in the warm I think.
where are you?
I am happy to come and get you.
All of the menu is up I think now. 18 pictures I think.
Now? Charing cross...
You literally did photo the whole menu. Oh my
I hope your not a fussy person then....
Davenports the fall, #getwellsooncalum #sorryformyfootballrelatedpost
has nick tried elderflower yet?
okay. Do you want me to come over? Otherwise. If you are facing the big busy street which is the strand you turn right. Walk along past McDonalds until you find the pub.
I love how you write on here, when you could phone her ;)
Wait i think i'm going th right way now
I don't have Alison's number and she doesn't have mine :(
I am still upstairs holding on to the last two chairs in the pub for grim death!
it aaaal makes sense
run alison, run!
next you'll be suggesting they talk to each other in the pub too.
#joncrazyman
talk?! TALK?!!
you 'da crazy man ;)
pictures of chairs on drop
hehehe it's like Christine yesterday trying to reserve Mr C's space in the crowd of people...
And clutching the two most important things in the world.
I do like the beer of anticipation as well
indeed... only it should be diet coke not coke zero :P
Picture proving I am upstairs on drop too.
I spoke to nick. He's coming to look for me. I really shouldn't have moved...
She should be here by now coming from Charing Cross.... Hmmm...
Ah.
Sidepodhideandseek?
he he
is he far off?
And phew.
I gotta run! (i know, this is too exciting!)
Seeee ya later
Evening. Just saw the comments of the meeter-uppers, this is like the gatekeeper in Ghostbusters.
This flat is really cold. I am cooking now.
Still no sign. And nearly 2 pints in we may be in a race against time.
They are here!!!!
yay :)
Awww air hugs!
can any Mac people recommend what anti virus software to use?
none.
thats what i thought, but someone is complaining about virus' on their mac.
hey hey guys, new to spc be nice :s. I am from pitlane fanatic and was with the spc guys at the merc thing yesterday.
Hiya fella
heya. welcome :)
new peeps together! :)
hey
Evening one and all!
heeeeeya.
didn't know there was any?
hullo chap!
erm... so, whats new???
hehe :) apparently there are, but might just be the person using the mac.
to make it clear, it is scary to be the new guy!! So casual smalltalk will have to make do for a while.
I found out on Eurosport that Fauriz (is that right?) Fauzy has nearly signed for Notus...and Villeneuve is in talks with Mike Gascoyne...
don;t tell them how bad I am at Forza 3
everybody's been there, i felt the same two weeks ago...
you missed #confidential Lukeh ;)
Fauzy makes sense to me if Yoong isn't in. I don't rate him hugely but he has the connections. Then again he may have improved while I wasn't looking.. he's got plenty of lower level experience now..
by the way I made a Kimi car on Forza 3, its a kited out Audi R8 5.2 that kills others. And it has Kimi Raikkonen's name all over it!!
heya! :)
where was he in A1GP? I think he took the wrong turning of the track he was so invisible...except for that weekend in Sepang...but that was different...
Fauzy and Trulli should be the team should Trulli decide to go pursue other intrests like Wine-making and Train Driving, hang on, he has been doing that for the last 10 years!!
yeah even me... whose been here for years :P We're lovely people Kimster i promise :P
"We're lovely people Kimster i promise"
Yeah and you found out yesterday that I am a big Jenson and Brawn fan lol. :D
I'm not here.
SHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D
wow... how did you know i was just about to go make dinner :)
catch ya later everyone (i hope those at the pub are having a nice time)
byee
Have done a quick entry about the off season, feel free to take a gander :)
:)
Alison did tell them they hadn't wrapped up warm enough.
To throw the spanner into the works, I am male and despise cold.
Then you are the exception to the rule! :P
:)
you know what i think... i think it's because men can't multitask, they have to work faster.
women with all their chilled-out-handle-many-things-at-once attitude makes them less warm. serves 'em right for being smug i say.
I think we should be careful here!
You like to tread a fine line, don't you?
hehe.
tell me i'm wrong ;)
I'm really used to the cold and cold days, it doesn't really bother me at all. May have a valid excuse why that is though ;)
Buemi confirmed at Torro Rosso, well he was the best of the rookies (well he was the only rookie that completed a whole season lol)
You've never seen me 'work' ;-)
I've played in the cold, ran in the cold, just been in the cold for the fun of it. I've decided, cold rocks.
am going to say kamui made a bigger impression in far less time.
buemi showed he could waste a perfectly fast car when he had one.
You're wrong, I'm always warm. I have disagreements at work with people who are always cold and not all of them are women, not all of them are chilled out & only a few of them are smug ;)
Agreed :P
Multitasking is a myth.
damnit.
He got better towards the end of the year though, couple of points finishes.
Well, that is completley the opposite view of me who has actually been impressed by Buemi
shoot. maybe i didn't think this through.
My wife is always really cold or really warm and never in bewteen!
coincidentally, so did the car.
go on...
Ooh How so?
I'm thinking of a Jo Brand stand-up routine which I can't fully repeat but is essentially "sod it that'll do" :-)
Do you think Jo Brand is esentially Robert from the Cure's sister?
me too. Probably because I am smug and lazy.
PS. Every car should be built with dual zone air conditioning. It is one of humankinds greatest inventions
Have done so... and even made a omment...
Jo Brand is John Sargeant
um?
It is physically impossible to do two things at once.
The trick is being able to switch between many different tasks quickly.
oh yes, I forgot to add that I am also smug and lazy
Have just read it, thanks a lot :)
Fingers crossed Kimi and his future are decided soon for your sake!
He has so far completley outperformed both his team mates this season, Bourdais and Alguesuari have nothing on him. That car I don't think is the best, not as good as the Red Bull (I think its the different engines I don't know). Obviously he is no where near as good as Vettel or Webber, but he has stuck that car in some pretty impressive performances this season. Sure Kobayashi got 6th, hardly anyone mentions that Buemi got 8th. In his first three races he had three points. Thats not bad going for sure. Sure, he could have driven a bit quicker and all, maybe made a few less mistakes. But definatly has impressed me.
Need to make some coffee to warm up and get me in the mood to do productive things
The multitasking thing is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bang/videos/tv_highlights/bang_liz_multitask_highlight/
But it may or may not be available outside the UK, I don't know.
I am freezing.Only xbox live and F1 keeps me alive. :)
Evening. We have been doing well here. Alison is making us drink wine. And by us I mean me. Nick has refused.
tell him he's a chicken :)
...and he has to try the elderflower.
Many thanks Lukeh....
Who was it who gave Kobi a caning for dangerous behaviour at Interlagos?...
One of the well known commentators...
twas i :)
and deservedly so. however, he did make a bigger impression in far less time than buemi. criticism still stands.
Short post from Joe with a link to a nice Williams video. Who knew that young drivers can drive a three pedal car. Go Hüüülkenberg
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/09/a-look-behind-the-scenes/
does the head ping work on andy?
Bias aside, I'd pick Buemi over Kobayashi any day of the week.
Kobayashi is amazing, though he was under pressure of working in a sushi bar for next season, maybe thats the trick to make drivers go quicker.
Kimi WILL get a drive next season and anyone who has Hulk in their name must be good :)
Hmmm...
Whilst I accept you are an eminent authority me... I think it was in Autosport....
they listen in on sundays. it's how they fill monday's content.
#gmmfact
wrong thread kimster :)
will move your comment. where are you commenting from?
I dunno, I am a newbie, thats a rookies excuse and I am sticking to it.
What was the right thread?
yup. good man :)
if you have the time: http://www.sidepodcast.com/about/new-to-sidepodcast-quick-start-guide/
Evening all
howdy sir. what's new?
a silly picture, but i likes it:

He looks smaller on there than I expected ;)
:D
Woohoo!! there was a bag of galaxy minstrels in the fridge, and noone is claiming for them, so I have taken reigns and declared them for my own
*shares with spc*
Mark Hughes
Nothing much. First day back at work for about a week (been off ill), and my uni tutor comes to see how i'm doing on the day the firewall gets confused and blocks every single website! (for background info, I'm doing IT support, so a failure is quite a problem)
Anyway, how're everyone else?
hehe. oops.
Just don't leave them in the middle, they may be gone quicker than expected...
We know where he gets his info from. Case proven
Not too bad cheers. Uni was crap today but I did find out thanks to Christine I buy 2.5 mill... urm I mean the UK buys 2.5 million sausage rolls a week from Greggs
*is not here.*
i love it! it's a great shot!! I told you you had better photos than me :P
Also... the fact that even you weren't tall enough proves just how tall the people at the front were! :P
Are we meant to be shooing you?
:D :D
Alison and Nick are on the drop
Not if she is not here
*waves at them*
That makes sense!
*waves at Alison and Nick*
not true. have found about five good ones. it's just that those are pretty good.
it's 100/1 strike rate, which is shameful really.
Hah! :P
YAY!
well... i have a dilemma you see... i'm not feeling the best this evening.. and frankly i'm feeling a little low when it comes to having to get work done... i just want to go and take loads of f1 photos now.. i blame having such a good day yesterday and taking f1 related photos there...
I like that pic Mr C. I got so close to Brawns face with my phone that he gave me an evil look. Lou I know your jealous lol
Hi guys. Nick is hiding in shadow
Hey guys!
Awesome, have followed
Dammit I swear I didn't read that first!
you should go take photos more often :P
Nonono. This is proof:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/4086935097/
haha :D lol this was close enough for me... :D
Lots of psychic comment sharing tonight ;)
andy, just the man. thought i'd try aperture again, cause you said it was good.
i cannot get a decent sharpen out of it for love of trying. have reverted back to lightroom :(
It scares me...
Yep. It is an amazingly good picture though.
:) i'm glad you like it.
i think i need to get some stilts like Christine and I were talking about yesterday because crowds are a nightmare!
Oh Luke I didnt know you couldn't use our new found skills :). Your getting left behind
Ah. I will consult my colleague tomorrow and see what he has to say. I have to admit I usually sharpen in Photoshop ;)
kinda scary isn't it :)
If you had stilts while you took that photo you'd have just had his forehead!
Good portrait that Lou.
ahh. understood.
our lens goes soft at full zoom, so basically every shot needs a little and aperture's tools aren't cutting it. the rest is okay but i've tried the sharpen and sharpen edges. neither produce remotely decent results.
When Lewis came out for an autograph Steve Rider almost killed about 10 people by jumping in the way to get an autograph and a kiss from his hero. I couldn't breathe for a few minutes lol
I wonder at what point they tell you about the circus skills you need for your photography degree :)
ah.. good point, would have helped me see the track action though, maybe i need retractable ones, so i can choose my height to suit the occasion? :P
:P
hahaha :D they would certainly help with the climbing of buildings too ;)
half of me hopes that is was Heikki that gave Steve the black eye as sort of revenge for his bias...:D
How about one of these?
http://www.luftbildexpress.com/index_start.html
Anyone could have given Rider the black eye, he had enough enemies.
I had a neighbour that used to do that.
Must try harder next year Mr Legard
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/legardlines-jpg
i like that as an alternative to learning circus skills.. :D
Look at that!
;)
I am going to kill someone and I blame all this Kobayashi talk earlier.
So on a charge was one of Legards improvisations? He needs to work on them.
I hear one of the winners of the euromillions on friday was from newport in south wales. Were you lucky Luke? Are the welsh planning a vigilante lol
Eeeeeevening all :)
They were from south wales?!
There's only 6 of us here. I must find out who it was.
Evening Jon!
That's no way to treat your fellow countryman :D
Damnit.
#StupidLegard
#sorryLukeh
He was clearly born in Cardiff in the world of the Demon Headmaster
now is the time to tell us if you are suddenly very very rich :P
And you are sharing it with Spc
As a self appointed new manager of lukeh's finances...
All I have to share is a bag of galaxy minstrels I'm afraid. I can confirm they were not worth £45.5 million.
:-)
If they were, you can't imagine just how much i'd be laughing at you right now!
My financial advisor Mr H. Simpson disagrees with your laughter at the price.
;)
When is the Mercedes event in Germany?...

are we back yet?
baaaaaack!
yay. 5 mins this morning and 15 this evening. sorry all.
The fact that everything that is technological towards me cut out in the last hour. I believe that something going down was not my fault.
Oh hello
#blamerg
#sillymediatemple
Server's going cookoo
that's the polite description, yes :)
i get the opinion that media temple aren't f1 fans....
Is that how you spell cookoo...?
Server's going cooking? Then it must be Mr C. today!
Actually used Wave for something work related today. Only 2 of us were in the wave, but we tried to keep track of too many tasks happening too fast all at once.
But I can see the value in using it to coordinate one or two tasks that don't need "OMG WE'RE GONNA DIE IF WE DON'T GET THIS DONE" kind of speed.
It forgot who I was :-(
(to be fair, I have that problem myself sometimes)
Damn thing's still wrapped in Plastic!!
*sigh* well, at least we're back (well, you're back up - I've been trying to look for some good stories but came back empty handed... :( )
aha, interesting.
I have gained from using it but I can't say why at the moment...
I think part of it might be getting used to it, this is the first time we've seriously tried to use it to do anything, and I'm sure there are some keyboard shortcuts out there that would be helpful.
But it was the first time I actually used it at the same time as someone else, and saw how it worked while other folks were editing waves.
Good evening everyone.
Time to hit the hay...g'night everybody...
Hi Adie
Night
Hi Adie. Night Lewis
I got 42 out of 43 in my latest practise test in Medical Terminology (the pass mark was 33). This pleases me because I failed the last practise test.
oooh, well done!
Nicely done!
yep, the child passenger is slightly taller:
#sorryamy
Well done Alianora
hehehe that was so funny :D
#sorryamy
w00t!
Hey Adie, Bye Lewis and Well Done Alianora!
How is everyone?
he's ALMOST 5'7". Surprised he can see over the steering wheel!
#sorryamy
Just having a good nose through the drop.io, particularly through the pictures taken yesterday at Mercedes-Benz World, and this just sent a shiver down my spine.
Now I don't know if it was just me, but did anyone else feel like they were peering at some tyrant's liar from James Bond when looking at that huge, cold, building with its rotating logo? No? Just me then...
good. mildly obsessed with editing pics.
Angry at anything with a power button.
oooh. i didn't think of it like that. but now you mention it...
ooo that's a scary thought.. and i'd agree if i hadn't seen Mr C wave at Lewis who was inside :P. But it seems like a rather threatening building...
Perhaps it looks better in the summer or something. Or when you have your eyes permanently closed?
It happens, I thank the goodness that is PicApp that I don't have to spend ages cropping images etc now.
Why?
you sound like me :P (not you me... but me me... er... yeah...)
Mind = blown
Was the Merc day good? Found out about it too late to get tickets...
i NO such thing!
#confidential
Just generally not working.
Anyways, gotta sleep, booo, night all. lotsa love.
Mr C here?
*waves*
Quick question. As a web developer dude, have you heard about Zend? If so, do you think its very widely used?
Night.
:D :D :D
Night sir
it's addictive. i keep finding pics that aren't very good, but could be messed with until they're usable. and the tweaking never ends.
Really?
i didn't mean too!!
it was an involuntary reaction.
anyway, he waved first.
Maybe he saw Christine of the Internet
yes!
to be fair to Mr C i did nearly wave at Ross when he gave a slight wave to the crowd... however it was hilarious! :D
Of course he did - and you just had to be polite, huh?
welcome to my life..well hopefully my future life.. kinda.. :D
hey, i'm in no position to snub him. just doing the right thing.
:(
Aw, poor mr c!
Such the Gentleman ;)
Didn't DaddyHam stare you down at all?
Have you ever seen that clip on the internet of the Dramatic Chipmunk?
Thats how I imagine Daddy Hamilton responds when someone says his name
This is a pic that would make Lukeh proud - although I only used paint.net
It's making fun of my mate from Trinidad who talks like a pirate and makes the world's hottest chilli sauce - I hope he likes it when I send it to him tomorrow ;)
he wasn't there?
i think that made the difference.
Mercedes tied him up and hid him in the back so he couldn't scare anyone!
awww sorry Mr C but it was kinda funny ;)
Wait... Lewis did something without his dad there???
Evening all again.
I turned on my laptop, and swear i opened up firefox, but somehow ended up on chrome. how odd
maybe he gave Ryder the black eye?? lol
See. Google are trying to take over the world
That is one powerful stare. I'm 99% sure they used Mr Hamilton's stare to create the thermal cam on FOM footage
Eh?
Is all of this going to be in a podcast/blog post or is it going to be dripfed to us for the next few weeks?
I missed this?
Home now. Have left Nick and Alison.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/4086928829/
you can just see it here....
Alone? Together?!
Papped!
I said it before, I'll say it again. This is how rumors start!
together in pub.
ha :D
if they don't end up fighting at some point i'll be impressed ;)
any romance there?
That's what I was getting at ;-)
Awesome!
'sup guys!
yeah yeah :P
next sunday. may require voicemails from attendees...
ohhhh... people will talk...
won't we?
yes.mr.c
#rubensfacts
Rubens was racing in F1 before I started paying attention to F1.
He was also racing in F1 at the very end of the last major world recession.
Only two of the F1 teams Rubens has raced for (Ferrari and Brawn) remain in their current incarnations.
When Rubens started F1 racing, South Africa was still on the path to a nuclear weapons program, North Korea hadn't started its program and the fastest processor for the PC was a 486DX2 - at a mere 40MHz.
Nelson Mandela was yet to receive his shared Nobel Peace Prize.
Two 125cc class motorbikers, Scott Redding and Marc Márquez, were born in the off-season that Rubens transferred into F1.
Will we? (see previous few comments) :D
i'd be disappointed if we didn't.
Just seen a clip of the new dr who episode on the graham norton show. That looks awesome!
aww poor Nick and Alison. lol
if only to annoy them ;)
This is for Christine - but keep your volume down when you watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzRH3iTQPrk&feature=related
What a legend!!
Also you did forget - "When translated to Welsh, Rubens Barrichello actually means 'Awesome Brazilian Superhero'"
that cant be real?!?!
I just saw that now!
That's the English translation. The Welsh is "Super-awesome Brazilian superhero".
Ah of course
It's obviously an animatronic panda...
Stupid question #1 from myself coming up: what famous welsh F1 drivers have raced in F1?
I wonder who was buying the drinks?
Tom Pryce
A panda nonetheless that absolutely made mama "leak excrement"!
case in point. a bad photo saved by fiddling:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/4090386625/
Mr C, i like this photo alot!!
Heikki is obviously dazzled as Mika teaches him the true finnish way of driving
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/4091062350/in/photostream/
very good
They're playing "spot the roadkill".
If it wasn't for Mika, you'd have to have a #sorryamy in there!
*tries to imagine Mika doing a Yoda impression*
i think he is hanging on for dear life... :)
yay! i was worried earlier that there weren't any good ones. i must stop soon though. leave a couple for another day.
Hello my name is Alex... And I'm a talker...
did ya have a good evening?
Hello Alex.
those are brilliant
you got some great photos :) you must have got a fair few of the force india too, because i remember watching you take loads of the back of it. go onnn you know you wanna edit loads more! *if i can't edit due to time and the fact i have nothing to edit then you can!! :P*
Good Evening :)
Very nice thank you.
What is this, Talkers Anonymous? :P
Dear GP2.
Don't say "...by clicking the contact link" when there isn't one.
That is all
Regards
JonJam
phew. was worried you'd be stood up.
Good evening :)
Absolutely!
I knows.
But I met Alison who was fantastic - as you might expect.
And Nick and Alison... Well it was like watching the doohicky live :)
:D
ha, arguing much?
one day, when I grow up...
In the nicest possible way - although with threats of throwing over balconies
Awww, how lovely
loveit
:D aww :)
did you remember to take your knife to cut through the (certain type of) tension?
:-D
This place is getting too quick for my liking. I need to slow down.
Ahh, I love Twitter!
Have you watched a live show yet? This is nothing! :)
What, no live streaming? ;-)
WOOOOOOOOOOOO
I found it
awesome
Right you crazy cats... as they say... time for bed...
Shouldn't you europeans be getting in line for Modern Warfare 2 right now?
Adiosssss!
i don't even know what that is...
see ya! :)
Oh please, we're not that obsessed. Well, I'm not anyway.
Same here. Night guys.
I'm 99% sure I'm the only male in the UK with an Xbox who really doesn't want the game
It's a game with guns and stuff that go boom. ;)
Guys...I just fell asleep on my sofa...going to take that as a hunt and go to bed.
Laters.
no wonder I couldn't, it's at your place!
It's rrrrrrrubbish
#SorryChristineIdidn'tmeantostealyourrrrrubbish
ah that explains it.. most of the games i like have cars that make sounds like vrooooom.. but i don't play many games...
see ya

F1 2009 is out on the wii next friday!
ooh no.... *waves goodbye to Alevels...*.. must.resist.temptation.... must.get.alevels..... must.get.into.uni.....
Really looking forward to that. Come on Amazon, send it a few days early, please!
:D fingers crossed!
Right, off to go server testing. Ciao!
not ours i hope, cause i know it will fail ;)
No, mine! It's 100% guaranteed to fail! :P
here's a f1 2009 DVD review photoshop I've just done
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh164/mm21_bucket/notgoodenoughf1dvd.jpg
inspired by Jonathan Legard
:D:D
ehehehe i've just seen this and i feel like Christine should have one... only with f1 related things on it... :P
haha :)
Don't wake me up unless it is Franck or a panda
:D
Eurgh!
Alison! Hi! did you have a good evening?
Evening. Is that a comment about Nick?
Evening!
ehehehe They even have matching ties!! :) i wonder if they are official Brawn ties...
almost certainly
Awesome!
oh.my.lord.
:D aww Nick Fry makes me laugh... :) i'll admit i wasn't expecting them to have just put all the brawn employees that they could find into an open top bus but there are certainly lots of tiny cute brawn flags everywhere :) i think the matching ties... no i can't defend it.. Nick Fry just wants to seem important :P
as much as you all may dislike mr fry (or appear to), i am certain he had alot to do with helping to save the team this year. he did his part
he did, but he still really annoys me
whyyyyy?
Details of the drivers for next month's 3 day young driver test are starting to come out. Joe has a post on the three drivers who will test for Ferrari and autosport report that Daniel Ricciardo will test for Red Bull while Brendon Hartley will test for Toro Rosso. Red Bull are clearly backing the antipodeans
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80105
myearthdream
hehe i know, i'm sure there were others too.. i know they all tried really hard to get the team through it. But i always find him funny... i've not seen much of him this year as most of the attention has been on Ross, but i think it works better that way. Plus Nick always ends up saying something like 'we are in the midst of contract negotiations with Jenson, and we are confident we will be able to confirm things soon' at the beginning of the season, and they always seem to wait till the end of the season has finished before they actually sign anything. While this makes sense you have to wonder why he bothers to say anything about it :)
His stupid statements over the last few years at times and her stupid kermit voice
/petty
er... his....
ah.. *tries to think of a defence for what was in hindsight a bad direction for the team to go in..* ... well at least the livery was nice... well.. different :)
#ididn'tmindit
*runs*
keep running. it was as bad if not worse than green tyres.
good! :) i liked it. then again i love the Brawn liverly too... i'm slightly biased, there aren't many people that liked the earth liveries though...
NOTHING was as bad as green tyres!
Nick Fry tried to give Christine double pneumonia
Did he sneeze on her?
i can understand why you don't like/hate/loathe it, but it was different, and sometimes thats just what you need, everyone knew it made no difference to the planet their livery, but it was different, and after Toyota popped out this
http://blogf1.co.uk/2009/01/15/toyotas-livery-development-2002-2009/
for 7 years, different isnt always a bad thing
:o!!! nooooooo.... nothing is worse (environmentally wise) than painting some green on a tyre and expecting that to be enough... At least honda tried... they had cardboard tents and everything!
Which they slept in as well!
#avoidmensioningthecardboardtentsifyouvalueyourlife
/ got neumonia in
He made her stay in a carboard tent
That's worse.
different good i can handle.
different condescending greenwash i cannot.
i know... my point wasn't that it was a good idea, my point was they tried to be active in their campaign, unlike bridgestone who seem to think the paint solves the problem...
#sorrymr&mrsciloveyoureally...
i'm not convinced. thing honda f1 did...
- told button to ride a bike
- used a PR company, who ordered recyclable tents
- wrote some illegible names of fans on their livery to cover up the livery
- quit f1
aside from the final point, what exactly did they do that helped f1?
and bridgestone have already covered the last point, so the green tyre argument stands.
Normal tents can be used many more times than cardboard tenst and as well as being better tents they are a lot more environmentally friendly.
in nick fry's defence. i quite like him too really. however, he isn't really very good at f1, and he isn't much use at finding sponsors, or keeping the one's he has.
They man has a point
*the
There is only one of me
well, no. not true. eco-whatever-they-be-called are designed to fix one problem, and one problem alone. and that is...
people buying cheap tents, going to glastonbury for 4 days, ruining them during the weekend and simply leaving them in the field.
that is the sole issue that is trying to be resolved and i believe it's a very good idea that needed a little more work.
With you not being here, and then being here. And not being here but being here. I gets confused
oh i never said they helped f1 with their campaign, other than giving the journalists a few things to talk about but they kinda tried to show support for it...but all i see Bridgestone having done is paint some tyres and make is harder for us all to differentiate between the two compounds...
also they didn't help f1 by leaving f1... although i suppose they kinda did cause Brawn GP wouldn't be around... but i still liked them.. *is in knots about how to defend them...*
i agree to an extent. for festivals yes....for a pr related thingy-ma-jig at silverstone...no
I'm here now
they helped the environment by leaving f1 though.
*Waves*
they weren't designed for silverstone. and aside from the ones we were in, you cannot book them for that event.
they are only for use at festivals. honda just helped them plug the service. or at least tried.
Hello
how so? there are still two cars on the grid that took their place (and basically the same team)... if anything the Brawns have done more laps and so used more fuel than the Hondas did...
oh.. you've now confused me..i'm now defending Honda by saying things about the Brawn... this should never have to happen! :P
i know i know, and i agree with the principle, but from your bad experience it just appeared more effort than was necessary
current myhab festivals:
http://www.myhab.com/find_a_festival/
although i have no idea why i'm defending them.
we're not outdoor people.
hence why we're staying in a hotel for spa.
me neither ;) i was aware of them before hte honda thing happened i think. twas a long time ago
hehe. taking honda in isolation. they best thing that they did for the environment was quit f1. that was the message i took away from their campaign. if you want to solve the worlds problems, be a quitter.
true story
They use carboard tents at Glastonbury which is famous for being wet and muddy? Cardboard doesn't seem lik the ideal material
that's true. but it only has to last 4 days.
aww sadly that is true... i can't argue with that. :(
They seem to think Rosshire is in Edinburgh. They are out by a couple of hundred miles
