Monday flew for me, so we are on to Tuesday already. Over the weekend, I said that the site hadn't gone down since the redesign, and yesterday it fell over twice. So, what can I jinx today? Anyway, here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Rosberg has said that the year he's just experienced has upped his value as an F1 driver, and allowed him to move away from Williams and presumably on to a team that can fight for championships. Did I miss the bit where he did anything supremely exciting?
- Meanwhile, Toro Rosso are also pretty hopeful for 2010, with Franz Tost believing their driver lineup will be strong by about mid-season, plus the fact that they're going to be building their own car as well. There's no more involvement from Red Bull, so will this help or hinder STR next year?
- Whilst we're talking about teams getting stronger next year, Brawn think they may be able to be even better in 2010 than they were this year. Ross Brawn says that they'll have had a year's experience, particularly with the Mercedes engine, and hopefully everything should just fit better.
That'll do it for now. We wrote about Must Comment Monday yesterday, but as it's Tuesday today, it's a bit late to remind you about it. Be prepared for next week though. I'll see you in the comments.
ah-ha. new daily. just in time to go to bed.
my body clock is ruined.
i must also sleep, school tomorrow and all that.
night Mr C, Night all! xx
Night Lou and Mr C
Bye anyone who's going.
I think my doohickey refreshed to get a new post. odd
Have just discovered that it's not all over for BMW yet....
Some morning links for y'all:
Google ordered to pay Barrichello $500,000
(It's F1 AND #mfc)
Very interesting the way the courts decided on whose fault it is fake social networking accounts are opened.
Another link:

Not very long, but it gives a brief anecdote of THAT day at Heathrow last year.
Who'd have thought the day would come when i'm designing a track made of heybales.....if anyones still about, goodnight!

Somebody ages ago wanted to know what my 'recording studio' looked like.
In my glass box, that's almost soundproof

I am really interested in seeing how Rossi gets on. I personally think it is between him and Summerton for a USF1 test drive or possibly a #2 seat.
Oh. Hey everyone.
have finally made contact with travel agent. Business card says firstname_lastname, actual email is firstname.lastname. Because she is a travel agent she is trying to sell me very expensive flights. No thank you! I will take the same route on a different airline for $700 less!
Travel agents are best avoided
I am still surprised that they still exist with the advent of this "entra-net" thingy.
Literally? That's... stupid.
There are far better deals on line than from any travel agent
i generally do things online myself but thought id make double sure im doing things right.
They've adapted. It's mostly for people who are too lazy or know too little to put their own itinerary together.
I suspect USF1 will have them on as a 3rd driver for 2010 with an option for 2011 ala Fauzy and Lotus.
I guess you found out your way is better
i probably will book online myself in the end, its my extended stop over that is confusing me.
This is for SidepodSpa... correct?
I think I am going to take my name off the list. This next year is really shaping up to be hell on earth for me.
indeed, sidepodspa then amymonza and amysingapore. Dan, we will see you when sidepodmontreal happens!
For all the nerds in Melbourne, MacTalk are recording their 100th weekly podcast live on Wednesday night. If anyone can go, please convey my sadness at not being able to attend :P

So I just bought the Mansell issue of Motor Sport Magazine, and look who's here:
Nice. :D
boo the men are here to fix the aircon. Just when the temp in this office finally is warm enough ;)
Ahahaha! :D Cold over hot any day. :)
i would rather go to a nico rosberg fanclub meeting than a pub with 100 mac geeks! I couldnt think of a more pretentious room! ;)
I believe Summerton needs to do quite a bit of work to get the superlicense. Rossi too but his current GP2 Asia adventures should do the trick I believe
Morning everyone... I think I may have a cold starting... :(
a cold? #blamenickandalison
This is the thing that I don't get. How can any person with a Renault or Red Bull logo sewed into their clothing automatically get a super license while people like Loeb can't. The idea of Yuji Ide getting a super license while someone like Seb Loeb can't is insane to me.
I actually seriously doubt the superlicense story. Loeb could've gotten it if he really wanted to. But I suspect the GP2 test introduced him to the reality that if he tried F1 at Abu Dhabi, he'd have been utterly embarrassing. But he couldn't give that as a reason, surely. Hence the superlicense spin.
Well Alison told me she gets tonsillitis every time she comes to London... But I think that would be a bit mean.
OK Loeb was a bad example. However, how the heck does Red Bull and Renault have all these drivers with super licenses? Matter in fact how does one get a super license? I looked for the form but they didn't have it at my local Department of Motor Vehicles.
From what I understand, you can do either one of two things:
1. Have sufficient mileage in an F1 car, and/or
2. Win at least one title from a set list of single-seater championships (from what I understand, it's F3 or higher).
There have been certain exceptions to this rule (like Kimi Raikkonen, who came from Formula Renault). In that case, Peter Sauber argued for his case with the FIA, who granted him a provisional superlicense to be reviewed after a certain number of races.
Ahh... clarity. Thanks Journeyer.
the full list. it is long:
a) have made at least 5 starts in races counting for the FIA Formula One World Championship for Drivers the previous year, or at least 15 starts within the previous 3 years.
b) have previously held the Super Licence and have been the regular test driver with an F1 World Championship team for the previous year.
c) been classified within the previous 2 years, in the first 3 of the final classification of the F2 Championship/ GP2 Series/GP2 Asia Series/Japanese F/Nippon Championship,
d) been classified in the first 4 of the final classification of the IRL series within the previous 2 years.
e) be the current champion of one of the following: Formula 3 Euro Series,The principal national F3 championships of: Great Britain, Italy,Japan, Spain, or World Series F/Renault V6
f) be judged by the FIA to have consistently demonstrated outstanding ability in single-seater formula cars, but with no opportunity to qualify under any of c) to e) above. In this case the F1 team concerned must show that the applicant has driven at least 300 km in a current Formula One car consistently at racing
speeds, over a maximum period of 2 days, completed not more than 90 days prior to the application and certified by the ASN of the country in which the test took place.
but after all of those restrictions they can do what they want anyway:
By exception, if supported by the Safety Commission, the FIA World Motor Sport Council may approve the issue of the Super Licence to persons judged by the Council to have met the intent of the qualification process.
Morning!
Yeah I listened to that yesterday on the AT&T Williams Podcast. I was disappointed because he came across as a guy who just used Williams to make a name for himself and decided to leave at the first opportunity of a better team.
Having said that, I got the impression that even he may not know which team he is going to yet...
I listen to it too. The only way I can describe the Nakajima is... ahh ... mmm... awkward...
He's got a voice like he's chewing gravel and he hasn't got the nuances to gloss over the fact that he underperformed this year and he knew it...
I don't think it is fair to say that Rosberg left Williams at the first opportunity of a better team ... He spent 4 years with Williams. Also his first opportunity to leave came when McLaren came calling 2 years ago...
Morning one and morning all!
Maybe it isn't - but his interview makes him sound like he was just at Williams until a better opportunity came along - it didn't sound very sincere and he came across as blaming the team for his performances this year.
Did someone mention Rossi? Blog plug time! :-)
Has done fairly well in the first two rounds of GP2 Asia and I reckon could well find a seat in the main series next year if his form continues. At worst, a drive in F3 Euroseries.
Ahem - the word is 'blug' ;)
Is it just me, or is the last comment in the "And The Winner Is..." thread spam?
It is spam isn't it? Thought it was easy to see, myself?
In the words of Dan, clarity. :D Thanks, Amy! Becoming a junior Alia, I see? :)
It's already gone.
Yup, looks like it based on the title of the blog...
Morning Christine :)
Hey, Christine! :D
Morning both. How's Tuesday?
Tuesdays are Terrific!
How are you going, Christine?
Tuesday gets a mixed review from me so far. It's still early though.
It's been... interesting, to say the least. ;)
So you're not winning then?
I'm knackered as I didn't sleep well last night - two coffees and a Red Bull and still nothing!
But at least my mate from Trinidad liked the funny pic I made of him :D
Go on...
Nah, just suddenly got an invitation from a friend to have lunch with her. It was one of those I-didnt-see-it-coming type of discussions.
Sounds good, sir!
Indeed it was. One of those life-changing kinds of things for her. :)
I can't believe the talk of Mr C waving came out overnight. There'll be nothing left to talk about in the show.
Humph.
he said he couldn't helpit
Talking about it?
Why won't there? I only know a little of what happened but I am still interested to hear more in the show. Besides, it's not the same to read it as to hear it described in audio...
waving. I'm not sure he let it out either?
You seem to be smiling a lot in the photos, there must be a story behind that!
Nope. Not blaming anyone, just saying.
I think it was someone else that mentioned it.
I hear it was Lewis' fault
(as in hamilton)
Morning...
Good to see alex and alison last night...
I have now booked some time off, therefore today is a good day.
phew. she didn't beat you up?
Morning.
How did it go last night?
yay. I need to do that
Yay!
She pushed me off my chair, which didnt work then she threatened to throw me over a balcony!
Gosh!
:D Alex said it was like live commenting in real life
hehe pretty good... for some reason wasnt as drunken as when bassano is around ;)
Alison however... was pretty drunk!
It's weird and sweet all at the same time. :D
I know... and alex kept taking her side!!!
imagine.
Wouldn't you if she threatened to throw you off a balcony?
she was worse!
:)
:D
Morning all *waves*
Morning Lukeh - my mate loved the pic I made for him!
yay :)
Oh my - Google Suggest scares the crap out of me!
woops, fell asleep there. Christine, did you see I held my side of the bribe?
It makes me laugh out loud. And it scares me that people really ask these.
What was your side of the bribe?
cash4finns
You might find that it's a bit pricey to get Kimi these days...
Ah ha, I will check.
that is true. Thankfully I did not have to pay for him. Just for the other two.
oooh travel agent actually found cheaper flights than I did for the time I want. And 2 of the flights are on an A380! Big plane!
I don't seem to have had anything recently, when did you do it?
hmm I wonder if I fell asleep before clicking on confirm because I just realised I didn't get a confirmation email.
Hehe.
ooh in the time between attempts the exchange rate has changed and now I'm saving 3 cents!
Received. :)
pleeeenty.
anyway, i didn't do not sure thing. there were not witnesses and you can't prove it.
alex has a post about that. i'm comment trawling, will he have plugged it as i read further....?
I saw it.
Never hurts to plug again: http://www.gamboling.co.uk/2009/09/travel-website-idea.html
Hmm. My wife is a Travel agent (a corporate, not a leisure one) and I am not sure she would agree with this...
Morning all.
Ah! Slow news.
http://mediactive.com/2009/11/08/toward-a-slow-news-movement/
the one I am emailing keeps telling me about her great specials on tours. I have told her I do not want to go on a tour. But I do like her airfare.
And why do you think she is promoting a tour?
ahh, he let me down. he must be sick.
beccause they pay her a commission if I book one. I am there to get the best deal for me, not to make her more money.
#blamealison
Exactly, and I totally agree. The airlines give little margin on airfares these days, you see!
I've been getting press releases from his people throughout the year. Not sure how they got my address, but there you go. Anyway, what amused was that the race reports would pop up in my inbox on the Thursday after the event. Talk about writing slowly...
i'm pretty sure travel agents were the first to suffer when the internet arrived. i don't think i have ever been inside a travel agents shop, because by the time i was old enough to go anywhere, expedia.com was already up and running.
arranging travel online isn't even media|future|change anymore is it, it's just the only way of doing things?
would be interested to learn if your/anyone's experience is different, but i can't ever see myself using an agent. and i can't even say "again".
my mother wanted to go and talk to a travel agent to book a flight from new zealand to australia. Quite possibly the simplest overseas journey one can make. I was shocked, talked her out of it, and booked her flights for her. I will stick with my agent for the flights because they're cheaper than I could find myself, even on the Singapore Airlines website, but as for the accommodation/transfers/everything else I'll do it myself online because it's easier than leaving my house.
I used an agent for when I got married in Italy. I thought it would take a lot of the time and effort away from me in getting it all organised. It didn't. All they did was forward letters to me, pretty rubbish really! Still, I did have an awesome wedding and honeymoon, so it can't be all bad!
I am.
OK, FWIW...
People call my wife and ask for arrangements on behalf of clients for business travel. My wife investigates the options, replies, and the client confirms. The service she offers is that if things go wrong or need changing, etc, she's the person the client calls and she personally has to fix it (call airlines, hotels etc).
So what you are getting is someone you trust is organising and assisting with your business travel arrangements.
When we book our holidays, however, we just go online, find a cheap flight/hotel/car/sightseeing tickets and book online. Why? Because it's cheaper, and work pays for our travel insurance ;)
The Leisure Travel Agent is disappearing - if you go into a TA's office these days there will be a couple of Leisure Agents and at least 10 who only do Corporate, Groups, or other Business travel.
I remember going to every travel agent in Harrow with a group of mates about 9 years ago. We were trying to arrange a snowboarding holiday. It was the most wearying and dispiriting process I've ever undertaken. Most dismal of all, as we waited for the creaking systems of Going Places (Going Nowhere more like) to come to life and divvy up a price for a group booking, was the young lady's attempt at patter: "So. What's snowboarding, then?"
are the pics, on flickr? they must be...
*wanders off to look*
thank you :)
where is this comment from?
My wife has some great stories, but I am not sure they are for public consumption!
It's to do with the Travel Agent conversation early today...
that makes sense. but does she work in a shop? she could do that from any anonymous building anywhere in the world.
it's the shop frontages that baffle me. they're pricey, but they've never drawn me in.
Yes Mr C, the pics are on Flickr!!
We booked our holiday as a package online from Thompson this year, and it worked out marginally cheaper than booking an Easyjet flight and the same hotel separately.
:D :D
She used to work in a 'shop' - but really it's an office as the only way of communicating with her is email, fax or phone. They ended up splitting the business and moving her part to an office.
And you got a Thompson rep you could call if things went wrong...
I am shocked at how many there are. There are four Flight Centre branches within 2km of my house, and beyond that is the CBD where there is another 7 or so. Every time I walk past they are empty.
24/7? because expedia give you the same option.
yay, they are very nice sir. you picked a good day to plug your flickr address :)
Just discovered find in firefox doesn't work with single quotes...
you didn't use the uber-filter?
It wasn't intentional I promise! Actually, it's been on the Wiki for ages! I even went Pro for you guys!
Really? Seems to work with mine.
expedia work in the same building as me. they were hiring at one stage and I thought that would be a cool job but they were only hiring people who speak at least one asian language. That ruled me out.
hey! i qualify! :D
hooray! this would also qualify you to work in the Louis Vuitton store! The girl who served me there last time may have been smart enough to speak another language, but she wasn't smart enough to find New Zealand in an alphabetical list. She got to Netherlands and decided she had gone too far so started going back up again.
what the... :O
hehe. tis appreciated.
Indeed - although we successfully avoided the 'enforced fun' bit where they try to sell you all the extra stuff.
I had to call the Expedia helpline several years ago, after someone threw themselves in front of the Stansted Express and we missed our flight. They weren't massively helpful - ended up having to ring round and rearrange hotels, etc, myself.
Plus, the 'Expedia special rate' on hotels is a bit misleading. You end up paying extra for breakfast (which would otherwise be included in the room rate), so it's no saving at all in many cases.
"...the closer the information is in time to the actual event, the more I assume it’s unreliable if not false."
i like that.
why are there so many hotels in Milan? Silly Monza, do they not know I suck at decisions?
I generally try to buy directly from the airline for simpler long haul flights, if i want something more complex i will always go to a physical travel agent As they are nearly always cheaper.
Expedia hasnt been cheaper for many flights i have done, i guess it gets alot of clicks for the brand. the only use i found for it was getting really cheap island hopping flights in Hawaii, otherwise my first 2 options have always been cheaper...
Don't go to the one I stayed at this year. Took two hours to get in on Friday morning.
Morning peeps
the only one I've had recommended to me so far is $2000 for 5 nights. Which is far, far, far outside my budget. :D
Barely! :P
It still counts! :P
woah, it's nearly lunchtime already...
time to go for a walk and add to the 2.5 million sausage rolls bought every week. ;)
Well, I shall attempt to finish my AEG Sauber Merc DTM today. I've managed to get the design on the left side of the car mostly finished, have started on the right as well and just need to put the rest on the roof, boot and back of the car.
#Forza3
I am tempted to visit the establishment myself today, but it's raining.
It is raining here too but that god forbidden weather won't stop me!
Booo... Why do no restaurants here deliver?
I have said before, Greggs are missing out with not home delivering!! ;)
hey everyone :)
am sat in a creative computing lecture being told that i should make websites using only flash. i'm quickly losing faith in this course.
You are very dedicated to maintaining the 2.5million sausage roll cause.
what??
ask them how that'll pan out on mobile devices.
Ask how much adobe is paying the lecturer?
when my internet gets throttled to 64k I just love fully flash sites.
ok christine has a point. It is wet and cold out here
Are they going to be going anywhere? Apart from your stomach? :D
i dare not, her knowledge seems limited. i know more than the lecturer. :)
not enough ;)
Oh, Stuart, we loves ya:

Ooh! Perhaps a reason to turn on my PS3
And some good news from Mr Roberts::
I wonder if they'll ask him how it felt having to be the race engineer for Luca Badoer...
:D:D
No, they didn't explain why. As far as I could tell that was always the plan from their end.
is my PSN friendship not enough! ;)
*only turns on PS3 to watch TV through the PlayTV*
#blameMicrosoftstealingmylovefortheXbox360
Although now I do want to go play Katamari Forever on my ps3...
Are they at the hotel or on the phone?
Still, it's a good deal if that's what they offer.
is Abe on the PSN yet?
It;s on the American one but not our regions!!! :(
You could call a travel agent... ;)
or check for reviews online... ;)
my current method, zing! I have a shortlist of um. about 15. Good thing I have 10 months to sort it :D
Surey it just come down to Price vs distance to circuit... Sounds like you need a pivot table :P
Ooh! I can graph it for you!
You mean a pigeon table.
Is today one of bernies endless deadlines for silverstone to do a deal?
Someone sent me this excerpt from the Gulliver blog on the Economist:
One of those too... cant have enough formal dining facilities for avians :P
don't forget the necessary wi-fi!
Got to be careful with that one. Last time I was at Spa, the people I was working for booked in to a hotel that was 5 mins walk away, but had shared toilets, etc...
You mean your not splashing out on an iridium phone to keep us up to date 24/7? :P
pssh of course not. I don't love you that much :D
Booo :P
We gave you double Finn pics!!! :D
and I donated to sidepodcast!
Ah! thats a good comeback....
Have just been to our Greggs and they had to tell cutomers they had no sausage rolls as someone messed up the order. Don't tell Lukeh!!
Oops, forgot to change name from Sunday :)
Oh my.
It was from before I had opened the page today. So I had to go to ye olde comments.
I can't use LCLT at work - the version of Firefox 2 or IE6 doesn't like it!
Anyone else noticed that "Your spy in the F1 paddock" is reduced to tweeting a GMM non-story from F1 Live today? #whoareyouanyway
Putting my Flickr account to some good use:

More pics will go up as they are taken :P
funnily enough, according to this tweet: http://twitter.com/f1scoop/status/5530431074
said person was at mercedes-benz live. the same place where DC, live on stage in front of hundreds (maybe thousands), said basically the same thing.
:)
According to Tony Dodgins over at AUTOSPORT Christian Horner has warned that next year: "Worst case scenario is that we find everyone gets their pitstop out of the way in the first 10 laps and you've then got an hour and 15 minutes of formation driving"
Paywall article: http://www.autosport.com/features/article.php/id/2484
Well, if Ralf Schumacher can do it...
#offyouf-
What an irresponsible picture!
:P :P
He was RRRRubbish in DTM too, wasn't he?
is kathi around? am now thinking this is another lost in translation story:
Reports claim Coulthard expressed an interest in switching to DTM during his visit to the Hockenheim round recently.
i swear that whole quote came from brooklands on sunday, and "someone" is a bit confused.
In what way?
It's an article about the end of refuelling, and the pic represents a fire caused by a team making an illegal mod to the fuel rig. It's not what I have in mind when I think of refuelling in F1.
Maybe he said the same thing twice.
Me having a go at an artistic shot

No, James Allen, this must NOT happen
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/11/brawn-name-could-disappear-and-cars-run-as-silver-arrows-next-season/
and the story broke this week? why not when he was in germany?
Hockenheim DTM round was October 25, so my vote goes to confusion.
Ah good point.
They're great pics. I just don't like those cars!
What would you prefer I took pictures of?
Pass. I can't find an original source for it. I only know of one German news outlet :)
Oh, it is there. Weird.
Nothing - Like I said, I like the pics :P
so long as they loose the luminous yellow, am not fussy.
If this is it, it doesn't say where he was when he said it.
*or lose. either way.
I want them to become Mercedes - I think it would work well.
And yes, a proper colour scheme would be nice!
Nooooooooooooooo :(
there is a distinct lack of content on that page :)
what that teaches me is that being nice to other teams and helping them get on the grid will come back to bite you.
My favourite bit is the last sentence from the DTM bloke that says something like "It would be good to have DC in DTM."
Which we all know is a contract signed, sealed and delivered, isn't it?
i think next time we hear a driver speak we should see how many headlines we can generate from one sitting.
we must be able to get at least three stories from davidson owning a brawngp race suit.
While we're talking about scoops, this story may have been discussed for the first time right here a couple (or three) weeks ago!
Actually back to that Dodgins article... If you have the paywall access to check it out it has a very interesting #MFC part about the difference between blogs and web news providers and traditional media.
No you have it all wrong - he's going to drive in IndyCars next year, to follow in his hero Eddie Cheever's footsteps (who his helmet is influenced on) ;)
Indeed. Go FOTA!
I sense a Friday Fun coming on.
hats off to james for the "99% certain button will stay" byline...

:)
I have heard rumours that Ricky Bobby or Jean Girard are coming over from the States to F1

And of course, any subsequent rebuttal is another story in itself, thereby forming another step towards the daily quota – oh, sorry, I meant #F1srichtapestry

Goodnight!

If I were Orange and I found out that Mercedes will move towards Brawn and away from McLaren, I'd go to McLaren... :D
That said, I don't think a renaming will happen - not just yet anyway. McLaren might not agree to it...
Nice work
That's some good work - are you manipulating them in the game or using another program?
This one is my favourite: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4092880262/sizes/o/in/set-72157622650646081/
All in game. You get to pay with things like shutter speed, aperture, exposure, brightness, contrast, colour, etc. I find adding exposure and colour helps bring the picture to life.
Indeed. Well done - some really good stuff!
Thanks :)
i love that no-one in f1 has any idea what is happening in qualifying next year. they've had since february to come up with something, and don't appear to be any closer to figuring it out.
wasn't that sorted in the rules changes? nuts. i thought that it was a straightforward return to low-fuel quali.
IT HAD BETTER BLOODY WELL BE!
AGREED!
article suggests otherwise.
go on?
I haven't subscribed yet. Why would they want them to qualify on race fuel? That's insanely dumb!
if there's one thing many people can agree on, it's that low-fuel quali beats fuel-load quali anytime. it's the true meaning of qualifying - seeing who is fastest on a track. just the memories of Senna's glory runs for pole makes me agree with this with conviction.
that isn't one of the suggestions.
only that the fastest car shouldn't be at the front.
Especially when they'd all be on full tanks...
not trying to be annoying, but i disagree to a point.
fastest car first, sees faster car lead to finish. so why watch on sunday?
Why not just have a qualifying race between the top 10 cars? Puts on more of a show for the fans.
I think in this era of no refuelling, just because you were fastest on low fuel on Saturday doesn't automatically mean you'll be fastest on full tanks on Sunday.
Reverse grids or something?
See previous comment. Senna had 65 poles, but he didn't exactly have 65 wins.
Nooo!! Reverse grids is stupid in my opinion :(
Hmm NASCAR do it but for the bottom 10 or something.
+1
you're going to have to subscribe :)
we have better reliability, we have safer cars, it won't be like it was before.
Ala GP2? Not really a fan of it. I'd prefer refuelling to that...
:(
A1GP used to have a complicated system that involved points scored for qually position, champ position and something else - lowest coefficient gets pole!
Hahahaha! That was so horrible it was hilarious. Good thing that got dropped pretty quickly.
On the other hand, monkeying with the quali format so that the fastest driver doesn't start first would lead to absurd MS-style gamesmanship.
I'd rather give credit to the other folks on the grid who beat Senna on race day...
it would. i like what we have now though. or at least had.
Indeed. It's bad enough seeing the race for 8th place in Touring Cars. Why should a guy who finishes 8th in a race be rewarded with pole?
i think we're in for a painful 2010. i can see panic regulation changes halfway through the year too.
Hmm, here's an idea I've had:
All 10 cars are paired off into 5 groups of 2. These groups then face off over one lap, one after the other. The winners and losers of all 5 groups then race each other in seperate 3 lap races to decide the grid. All cars line up on the grid together but the first 5 set off first followed by the secnd 5 about 15-20 seconds later. Wherever they all finish determines the grid. Also, there's a stipulation that throughout all this all cars must use the same set of tyres, prime or option.
Just a thought.
I fully intend to read Dodgy's article, but can't at the moment because my subscription carriage has turned into a pumpkin. Attempting to call in a few favours now to reverse the process. Cinderella should be back at the ball shortly.
Does Qualifying really need to be this complicated though?
Not that that's how it'll be spun...
Mmmmm probably not, no.
It is called Bild (=picture) after all. The 'article' has 11 pictures => job done
#hangsheadinshame
Alternatively:
- A hip-hop-style dance-off
- A deathmatch – with pugil-sticks!
:)
- For Sure Qualifying?
Always worked for Dierdre's Photo Casebook...
Why not just go back to: 12 laps, 60 minutes, low fuel, off you go. Simple
I think I'd prefer the other idea they had a while ago (q1 and q2 as now and then q3 as a 10 lap shoot out where the slowest is eliminated after each lap) #Imightrememberthatwrongly
I agree
Massa would be on pole every time.
Althugh I partly agree because I enjoyed the system on F1 97 and sitting there in the pits watching other cars put in laps but still :P
Why not have the same system as now but have Q3 as low fuel as well?
Or better yet, have Q3 as a shootout where each driver goes out from 10 to 1 by himself and gets to set one timed lap?
I actually like knockout quali - action well-spread throughout the hour. I didn't like the old-style quali because no one came out for the first 20 minutes...
Either way works fine for me. :) Although I'm not sure how much time they'd need to shootout 10 cars. And if there's 26 cars, isn't Q3 made up of 12 cars? Not sure on that though.
I remember seeing last month that it goes 8 out in Q1 - 8 out in Q2 - 10 in shootout
Ahhh. All right, that makes sense.
How about they have Q1 and Q2 same as before. But in Q3 you get a random amount of fuel? ;)
I think it runs that way too... more get knocked out in Q1 and Q2...
If only F1 was more like Gladiators...
I think they should just use my idea of The Button myself
Nah, Mariokart FTW!!!
Eet'sa me, Maaario... Theissen.
I can't wait for Adrian vs Kimi, oops I forgot Kimi might not be driving next year!
mediafuturechange is blocked here at college. that really annoyed me for some reason.
:)
What would be a wonderful site is for McLarens to go back to their historic orange livery and then this sponsor would be so appropriate.
That is most likely, and most preferable. With a rule that states that you must return to the pits at the end of Q3 without running out of fuel, otherwise, your Q3 times will be erased. (And if more than one driver runs out, those grid positions are based on their Q2 laptime)
I'm imagining drivers qualifying on fumes to get a good time.
afternoon btw :)
I have this bizarre desire to go running. I don't run. I have only ever run once for no apparent reason and that's because Mr C made me. He's the one that likes to run around after F1 drivers and/or LPG's children. Something must be up.
Your mind is obviously traumatised after the Greggs announcment you encountered today
Weird I had that about a year ago around this time... And I don't run either.
Am old enough to run the GNR next year, I have no idea if I can be bothered to do it.
Hey everybody
It could be that. Hopefully it will pass.
It did pass, right?
Oh yeah... It went through some stages
1) Wanting to run
2) Breaking into a slight trot
3) Breathing heavily
4) Slowing the speed of the trot
5) Realising that I was now travelling more slowly than the uber fast speed I walk
6) Collapsing into a small heart attack.
7) Having a bit of a lie down
8) Finding myself not really fancying running anymore.
I have to re-check my arithmetic but I worked out that for the races that Lewis and Felipe have both driven in Felipe has a higher score per race than Lewis - that surprised me and is way way ahead of Kimi.
Not only home deliveries, but late night opening too. I'd rather have Greggs after a night of drinking any time over a take away.
Surely they would make a fortune?
I would make sure they would make a fortune. :P
I remember someone doing a project on this at uni...
I think the conclusion was that people wouldnt pay the higher prices needed in the long term
Thought I had lost this last night, thank god I didn't.
http://onetimoglock.wordpress.com/2009/11/10/season-in-review-drives-of-the-season-part-1/
for home delivery, all they need is a local taxi firm, and charge a pound extra for each delivery
Also on the night thing, i also hadn't factored into this that waiting for food to cool when you're drunk is not an option, and you'd end up with a burnt mouth.
Correction, I'd end up with a burnt mouth.
Although the solution to this is more alcohol, so good for the local economy all round :)
I have just done a blog on why Macca this time should go for Nick rather than Kimi. http://f1centric.wordpress.com/2009/11/10/mclaren-not-red-bull-on-the-horns-of-a-dilema/
Ciao :)
Evening
New FM3 photos up on my Flickr page

Hellooooo. I'm alive.....
everyone else seems to not be alive...
Relieved if anything.
I am! just got home to find my dog has chewed the chairs in the kitchen and the door frame in there, she managed to created quite a mess.
hey.
i am, but am going away again to do more sidepodcoding very shortly.
unexpected!
And I have a coding assignment to be getting on with :(
hehe. good luck sir. can help in the next 15mins if you're stuck?
Oh BTW, my wife saw the new homepage the other day and she thought it looked really professional - just thought you'd like to hear it ;)
Ah it's alright, wouldn't wanna get in your way. The entire class is having pretty big issues with the assignment and we're all meeting up tomorrow to discuss how far we've got, and why one arth we've been given 400 or so lines of code with no exlanantion as to what it actually does...
#notfinished :)
the question is, did she think it was fast?
Want another unexpected statistic - Nick in his three season partner with Robert has scored 40% more points and for the last three seasons is the fifth highest point scoring driver.
It works really well as a personal homepage too, I've had SPC's homepage as my own homepage for months but the old one took a lot longer to get Firefox going than the new one does, and I mean a few seconds difference...
Well I was using the web at the time...
You wanna collate these stats and then I can graph 'em? :D
good stuff. am really interested in making things fast.
no worries. glad she likes what's there.
I should get them into a spread sheet sometime and do some stats. It is very sad that Felipe missed so much of the season - he was looking so much stronger than Kimi. Sadly Lewis and his team combined lost some 30 points during 2009. Those points would have put him just behind Vettel.
I don't use startpages. Blank page to load quicker windows...
Really enjoyable read, thanks Rich :)
Hello
Haro Patrick!
could you try SPC as your homepage for a day, and see how it performs for me, when you get a moment pls?
I did not think any one ever read them!
Sure. What am I looking for?
A picture of Mr. C!
to see how much slower it is than using just a blank page. does it affect your browsing etc?
:)
Because are you aware that I have done software testing as part of my job? Just in case you need help there...
i wasn't, but shall absolutely keep that in mind.
it wasn't UI/usability testing by any chance?
Maybe we should have must comment weekday and not just monday :)
Yes it was - I was given a script for a Beta of a new web-based permiting system and told to do stuff like lodge applications, process them in various ways, change the details etc. I must admit it was quite fun!
hehe. we encourage commenting ar all times.
I should ask you to look at our WEB GIS pages sometime! We never know whether the rest of the world sees the stuff we do as I host and maintain the servers!
Fun? I always suspected you were a bit off... now I have confirmation!
Let me put it this way - I got to leave my desk, mess about for an hour and provide important and valued feedback - how can you not enjoy that???
ahh cool. well sidepoddevelopment stages will likely run like this:
- make faster
- make usable
- make pretty
point two i guess is things like - is the search box in a sensible place. are links legible, it is easy for a newbie to comment.
that'll be all hands on deck, to pick holes in the design and improve it. so shall hassle you for help when we get there.
point one, is measurable and pretty easy to do. point three is subjective :)
Sure, just let me know, I'll be HTH!
So, I got home, and I'm over the running thing. Phew.
Blimey. Brawn GP's wind tunnel has it's own website.
http://windtunnel.brawngp.com/
Leaving the desk, cool. But to provide important and valued feedback I would have to talk to people.
I'm a programmer and sysadmin. I don't like people.
;)
blimey.
i guess they have spare capacity now?
am going to run, but leave you with this ace post from jackie, in case you haven't read it:
http://www.pitlanefanatic.com/blog/index.php/1118/qualifying-my-thoughts/
Hey everyone:
Interesting interview with Peter Windsor with the guys at Formula One Blog
On my one to ten nervous scale, I am down to a about four.
Here is a bit about Sauber's wind tunnel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_7-W6X23-I
It is a bit old so they were talking about Albert 2 - they now have Albert 3 which is seriously powerful at 12 teraflops.
http://www.hpcwire.com/industry/manufacturing/Albert_3_-_The_Brain_Behind_BMW_Sauber.html
I agree with this. I really miss those Hakkinen specials.
I remember reading about it in David Trymane's book about F1 engineering. It still is rather impressive.
...Mind blown...
I also agree with this. I'd argue that there wasn't enough difference between a light car and a first-stint car, but there is enough difference between a light car and a full-race car.
Only at Daytona.
That is why I was so sad that they got dumped by BMW - Peter Sauber is not only a passionate about the sport, he is really compassionate about his staff and their interests at Sauber's Hinwill factory.
We shall see, I fear you may be right. I have a feeling we'll start the year with low-fuel Q3 and by Monaco they'll have invented something else.
I have found out more about Albert 3 it is
"To say that Albert is quick on his feet would be to suggest that Einstein was decent at multiplication. The grandson of the original, Albert 3 is a 21-ton, 12-teraflop supercomputer, currently the most powerful industrial-use virtual brain in Europe."
Nowadays, 12 teraflops is kinda slow (in the supercomputing world). Roadrunner is a petaflop machine.
A quick thought. With the massive increase in weight because of all the fuel, we are going to a new emphasis on mechanical grip and chassis stability like we haven't seen before. They can't keep the car at the knifes' edge like they did when the fuel loads were so low and the car so light.
and yet the front tyres are going to be narrower..
... Mind...Blown...even...more...
To be deployed in the name of sport - sure the military will use faster machines.
Was just trying to blow Dan's mind even more :)
I am putting the line on the cars wreaked on the first lap of Monaco next year at 8.
If DC comes out of retirement, the line will automatically jump up to 16.
Understeer City
Evening all
:-)
Hi
I don't see why. We had low fuel qualifying for decades without problems. We have had a decade of varying fuel loads and that has failed miserably. At least we won't have to hear a driver say he sat behind a car for 15 laps without trying to overtake because he knew his car was 5 kg heavier than the guy in front.
I don't think the refuelling era failed. It worked well for a long time but ever since the teams found out what the other teams are doing strategically it has been boring. There were some great races in the late 90s when teams were still working this stuff out. There were also several boring ones.
What people seem to be missing is that F1 has always had the odd great race mixed among several average or bad ones. The last era was always better than the current one.
Here's a question... when were pitlane speed limits introduced?
Just wondering if it was before or after the refuelling came in.
It was after Senna died because someone else in that race had a wheel fly off and hit someone...
Evening all!
I believe it was after Imola 94, when Albereto's wheel flew off the car and struck mechanics, injuring them...you may wanna double-check...
that would answer the question you asked, it was introduced 3 races after refueling became legal.
Thanks. So 2010 will be the first year of speed limits with refuelling. I'm just wondering if that will be enough to prevent some different tyre strategies, like stopping twice to run new rubber for longer..
I think revealing the fuel weights was a big mistake. That told all the teams when a driver was going to pit so they knew in many cases that they did not need to pass.
For me low fuel qualifying is an essential part of F1 and I don't think we have gained anything by qualifying on race fuel. Since Senna died Max introduced rule after rule to stop people racing because it was safer if the cars did not try to overtake. Race fuel qualifying was just a way to stop evenly matched cars racing.
pit stops will be 2 seconds long..
it also took away the excitement for us, guessing stratigies. It kept the armchair fan on their toes.
Mark is trying to keep DC heritage on the race track alive.
I remember Alesi nearly wiping out a pit crew at full speed. Senna certainly did not have a speed limit for the bulk if not all of his career. I am not sure of the date but I would say mid 90s
I need to look at Steve Matchett's book, but I think the fastest pit stop they did with Benetton in 93' was 3.2 seconds for four new tires.
thank the FIA that there was a speed limit in Abu Dhabi. Goodness knows what would have happened if Tim was going full pelt in the pits...
That is fast. Under 5 seconds was normal and I am sure I can remember 3.8/3.9
they introduced it for Barcelona 94...
I just spilt wine all over my cordless mouse. It's not pink though!
Monaco 1994.
Actually he's right. Thought Monaco was straight after Imola that year.
Oh yeah, BTW - homepage loaded quicker than Chrome's startpage ;)
holy cow!
#nothere
My computer is older though!
than?
it was - it was just too late to do anything...
Just took a quick video myself of the new homepage as a startpage, then a startepage with the old layout...
They also installed that chicane at Catalunya that year too, and Montreal and Spa as well.
It was but Wendlinger had a bad accident there which hyped the safety thing even more so the next race at Barcelona had a tyre chicane and pit speed limits
For the attention of mr c:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/spccomparison-wmv
Hope that gives a bit of an idea... also, I never realised how much drop.io downs the quality of videos!
cheers. downloaded the .wmv!
Is the drop.io rss feed broken?
yup, and the transcript feed it would seem.
#wakemewhenitworks
Evening.
Saw this and thought Christine would like it:
Uploaded to the drop...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/pandawithaquestion-jpg
the tyre chicane at Campsa corner was so pointless - yes it did the job of slowing cars down, but cars just knocked it over in practice...
I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Bamboo? Never touched it
Ohh I can subscribe to the itunes feed with rhythmbox.
did miro not work for you?
:D
Awwwww!
no when I tried the itunes feed it told me the url is not valid.
ahh, the drop.io itunes feed?
You could also use amarok.
yep. sorry. I always forget that you're not living in my head.
It was more dangerous than not having it there. Max and co went into a total panic about safety and made a whole slew of stupid decisions. Remember how irrational some people were getting after the Surtees and Massa incidents this year and multiply it by a million.
After Barrichello's Friday accident at Imola everyone thought it was a huge accident but the driver walked away as they had done for years. Next day while people were still shaken by Rubens' accident Ratzenberger died. The first driver to die in an F1 car in 6 years and the first at a race in12. Next day Senna died and the panic went to warp factor 10.
By the time of Monaco things had calmed down slightly then Wendlinger had a huge crash that resulted in him being in a coma for 6 weeks and the panic went up to a whole new level so we got stupid chicanes etc.
i'm doing quite well for someone who isn't even here.
christine, shoo me.
thanks but I like miro. It's a bit silly and occasionally annoying but it's my little miro. *pets it*
SHOO!
Spa was definitely the worst, Eau Rouge was tamed and became a Nouvelle chicane lookalike....thank the FIA that it was taken away in 95.
James May playing with Meccano just started
A quick question to anyone - has Vettel actually overtaken another driver for position in his F1 career? If in YouTube you type Alonso or Lewis and overtakes you get quite a few replays - but there is nothing for Vettel and really rather little for Felipe and only one for Mark (but a lot of him being overtaken).
nothing springs immediately to mind Rich!
He overtook someone in Brazil didn't he.
nope, can't have done! Lol!
overtake fail
This came about after I wrote my blog on Heidfeld and looking particularly at this video of some of his overtaking moves (which I think are very stylish in their execution)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VLdPDo6mP4&
If you enjoy F1 overtakes its worth watching so I looked for other drivers to compare with Nick.
besides, i don't think it counts if it's wet, does it? Makes it easier/harder depending on your tyres. Proper dry overtaking is where its at!
and it has just dawned on me that i may be thinking one Brazil before you RG!
The other question is the two drivers who have finished second in the last two seasons seems to have little or no evidence of overtaking. Should overtaking be important to establish oneself as excellent F1 driver/champion. Will next year have more overtaking due to some drivers being more careful in their driving style?
This is something I ave argued for years about the re-fuelling pit stops. Schumacher was not a great wheel to wheel racer by any means. He was fast and provided Brawn could find him an empty piece of track he could make up places but when he had to overtake he either made a mistake or just failed to make any progress. Had he been around a decade or two earlier there is no way he would have won anything near as many races.
No driver should ever lose a place in a race unless someone takes it from him by passing him.
mmmm dream cake :)
I agree with you about Michael - from memory and searching I seem to find that the overtakers are Lewis, Kimi, Fernado, Nick, Jenson, Rubens (on significance to order). I tend find Adrian and Kubes mostly crashing rather than actually overtaking and Kovy and Mark being overtaken and just really nothing much for Felipe and Vettel.
Well, considering the 2 most recent champions CAN overtake, I'd say it's important :). if Vettel could overtake the championship might have ended differently this year.
I'm being all organised. Making a list of blog posts coming up. Last night I hung up some clothes and the other day I sorted through some paperwork. This has to stop.
That is the other side of the coin - but in the case of Felipe he almost did win without much evidence of being able to overtake.
He did in Malaysia this year (Nick funnily enough) and before the rain came.
Very true. Hopefully no refueling will separate the men from the boys :)
If you could engineer races such as this to be the case who do you think would be the top five current drivers?
Actually, apologies to Nick, it was Hamilton - very similar shades on the chart.
Good to know he can overtake - he is definitely a good wet driver so that makes it a bit more mentionable.
Assuming equal equipment Hamilton, Raikkonen, Alonso and 2 others
Depends who's style the car suits although I think Hamilton is more adaptable than Raikkonen.
I thought Nick was a fairly difficult driver to overtake - but I am thinking of Silverstone with the BMW pit telling Nick to pit with his damaged nose and he staying out and holding Fernando up rather spectacularly. This was humorously depicted in this video
http://www.youtube.com/user/LosMiniDrivers#p/u/9/uY0umOvhQQc
It's depressing that that sums up all the highlights of that race
There sure was no overtaking - if Fernando could not overtake Nick with a damaged car!
evening!
hey hey
hey chris and kimster
quiet tonight...Might come back later. bye Kimster and RG!
Feel free to start a conversation.
those archives aren't they great?
:)
Hahah! They have their uses. I can't for the life of me think what but there you go :)
*is not here but wanted to make sure people saw this in case they were interested*
brawn parade coverage.
You missed the opportunity to shoo Mr C earlier
Awesome!! :D:D
lovin' the archives! I was listening to your Debrief after Singapore GP (Echoes of Last Year?) and you were saying that you listened back to the Digests of Singapore 08 to see what you said and picked up. After listening to this, I went to read the 2008 F1 Review Book's (Bernie's one) Singapore review, and amazingly enough, it had picked up all of the issues. I can tell you personally that i didn't notice anything strange until it was pointed out....hmmm
*is honestly going now* ahaha ah i wish i'd have been here, been super busy though... hopefully i'll be around more tomorrow evening
*waves* byee!
Bye Lou
Hi lou.....
...Bye lou
au revoir, Lou
Why did he have to be shooed?
He was sidepodcodling I believe
Like mollycoddling?
...doh :( Stuart C has nothing to do with the shooing... he was actually sidepodcoding...
My mind is tired :(
I think that has to go in the dictionary although I have no idea of the definition.
No pinger? I win!
Blog post: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/11/10/get-ready-for-cars/
The codling you do when molly isn't around?
not here. but felipe leite just pointed this out on twitter:
http://esporte.ig.com.br/grandepremio/formula1/2009/11/10/em+evento+quase+secreto+campos+apresenta+oficialmente+senna+9061087.html
lowercase META ;)
whats the score now ? :P
I think it's pretty even, actually. I really should keep count.
Lou is going to be disappointed that she missed another opportunity to shoo you
The last part seems to be saying something about passing a medical exam and being involved in an event with Scarlett Johansson, I think.
I love that babelfish translates Pdero de la Rosa as pink woollen Peter.
Since it is a bit quiet I thought it was time for a sidepodspace update.
It is a few weeks since we had any space stuff to watch. Next Monday we have a shuttle launch. Or at least a scheduled shuttle launch. We all know NASA well enough to know that the reality rarely equates to the schedule.
The launch is scheduled for 2:28pm Eastern which I think is now 7:28pm UK. There is a countdown clock on the page so we can keep track.
The shuttle is flying to the ISS for the latest stage of its construction. Nearer the time I will post details of the mission.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html
Ooooh, how exciting!
The only details we need, though: are they taking any pandas?
No pandas although they do have a spare seat on this flight as there are only 6 astronauts going up but 7 coming back. I am sure the panda wouldn't mind hanging around until there is a spare seat on the way back. Of course keeping it fed could be difficult.
That bamboo will grow anywhere.
I'd forgotten this even happened.
N.Technology's legal action against the FIA over the way that the process for the selection of the new teams for the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship has been unsuccessful after French courts rejected all of its claims.
The N.Technology's case was heard in Paris on October 13, but the verdict was not released until this afternoon.
But you can't start growing bamboo the day it arrives. There would need to be a supply already there
Anyone else seen this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QB6eJluXEbs
genius
Shame but the FIA always win cases in French courts
Bean sprouts are the answer. They grow almost overnight.
Can they take some with them? They could line the walls with it or something.
Plus it's probably quite hard to prove such claims without evidence. more "he said she said"
Evening all
Bamboo is clearly the space plant. It has 101 uses.
I saw the original. Now I am going to watch the rest of them
Maybe they could build the something out of bamboo or just fill all the empty space in the payload bay with it.
Don't grow it for too long in space if it is the kind that grows through anything. You need that air.
Not all here tonight, so packing it in. see ya tomorrow. lotsa love.
byeeeee
Since we're on space... someone woke up the Russians.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8351163.stm
Russia to resume ISS construction
Wont they have problems with the US half using Imperial and the Russian half using Metric?
I hadn't seen that. After acting as little more than a taxi service for the best part of a decade the Russians are getting back with the game just as the Americans won't have any manned space flight program.
And I'm back. We having fun?
They seem to have avoided that so far but there is a theory that a couple of the Mars landers that smashed into the ground did so because someone got miles and kilometres mixed up.
If this is true. I heart that
It's true
http://www.cnn.com/TECH/space/9909/30/mars.metric.02/
genius
Just checked and there is a lot of empty space in the shuttle payload bay for the next mission so no reason that they can't ship a few tons of bamboo
Is it any wonder they can't ever launch on time when they spend all that money and no-one checks to see that the units are correct. How many people must have signed off on that and none of them opened their eyes?
Gavin was having a go at them being a bunch of amateurs over the test launch we saw recently. I can't imagine what he would have made of this.
If NASA can't keep in sync with its own contractors with only one language and culture involved you have to think it is something of a minor miracle that the ISS even got off the ground
.....or, um, not.
Since I had to check the press kit to see how much bamboo could be shipped I thought I would check spacewalks as well. We have 3 of those to watch on flight days 4, 6 and 8.
I am a bit worried that Bruce Willis may miss the asteroid, because of a mis-calculation now.
Actually, I am shocked that a scientific agency would do any work in imperial measurement. That is a bit beyond belief.
I would hardly say it's "Amateur hour" over at NASA, these systems are extremely complex and no matter how much you spend or how many people looking at it, mistakes will sometimes make it through.
The ESA managed something similar with the Ariane 5 rocket by re-using software from the Ariane 4 which wasn't properly tested. This lead to the rocket self destructing shortly after take-off. This has been referred to as the most expensive computer bug in history.
I am more worried that we won;t know it is there. If there is someone on board they are going to very quickly realise that they are about to have their face smashed into a big rock and take some action to avoid it.
morning all. Isnt it a lovely day!
Hi Amy. Not here it isn't. Cold and wet and dark right now. :(
It is. However the air-con is still not working here, and it's heating up fast.
Hi Amy. Too dark to seat what the weather is like
dark is a weather. I am wearing a cardigan since the silly aircon here has been fixed. After work tomorrow i am off to pay for my flights and having that expense behind me instead of looming will be very nice indeed.
Have I told you that you are way too organised?
*still hasn't bought tickets for Melbourne*
Wonder if Bassano has his statement yet..
This is the one and only time I shall bother you all (potentially), but if you are aged 18 to 24 then i need your help!
I am doing a report about the nightclub industry and have created a survey, so if you are between that age then if you could complete it, i would appreciate it alot!
The link is below.
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=AB1lvmbdCZphql4kCSzWIw_3d_3d
Thank you very much!!
Is it worth filling in if you find clubbing rrrubbish?
definitely
How did you get on with your hay bales Jon?
He hasnt replied yet. Not sure what i'll do if i cant get any.
are you calling me old?!
Have you managed to get some karts and safety gear?
Mintel (2008) reports that the main age of nighclub attendees are 18-24 year olds.
OH MY GOODNESS I EVEN TALK IN REPORT SPEAK! AAAAARGH
the answer to your question is...no :P
:D
Hey you kids, get off my lawn!
They havent replied either aha. Am preparing the uni to freak at the cost, so have contacted a few people about hiring some rc cars to play around with instead. Not sure what will happen otherwise
That's not real music anyway
That's because they play the music way too loud.
Just go to a nearby kart track?
i dont look at it as way too organised, i look at it from an economic respective of a utility curve. I totally learnt something at uni!
You know when your blog posts are unwieldy when...
no.12: the original purpose of the post only takes up 1/3rd of that entry
We do for our organised events, but this is something the uni has asked us to put on. Theres going to be a society day, where this big space is used to promote hte societys, and thats what they want us to do.
I feel a vital supermarket has been forgotten so I have put them in the 'other' ;)
oooh sorry, we dont have one of those around here so i clearly forgot to put it!
and as my girlfriend pointed out
"who would do their main shop at iceland...all you can get is frozen stuff"
;) :P
They obviously have no idea of the cost. You'd be hard pressed to have a static kart on display. That's without thinking about things like risk assessments.
I am fully aware of such problems, but we're a brand new society and growing quite quickly, so if we do it and show them we've made an effort, it will go some way to keeping them onside.
Then there's insurance.
Also public liability insurance
Yup that too!
Have you tried speaking to kart manufacturers who may have some demo karts they would let you have?
Yup, but they won't hire them.
What about a local kart club who may see your society as the ideal place to recruit new members?
Haven't tried but am waiting back on some other places, there isn't really a local kart club, but have contacted some hire kart places, the type where you'd do arrive and drive from but am still waiting to hear back
That was my first thought and you would think an indoor karting centre would love to sell itself to all those students. I can see them not wanting to let their karts run outside though that is why I was thinking about a kart club.
Problems with a kart club are....
1. Karts arent protected like arrive and drive karts are.
2. Outdoor arrive and drive karts are too fast for the circuit size. It would be like letting a Ferrari F1 out on an RC circuit
I have a couple of ideas for you. First phone Mary-Ann Horley. She knows everything about karting and knows everyone who does anything to do with karting. If anyone will know where you can get some karts and stuff it will be her. Details at her site http://maryannhorley.com/
If that doesn't work out have a look through http://www.karting.co.uk/ which has more karting info than I have ever found anywhere.
Oooh thanks.
I'll keep a hold of those, i'm meeting with the guy who's organising the event on Friday, so i'll find out the budget they have put aside for it, because theres little point going ahead with trying to get something organised if they dont have enough money.
If you can't find a way to get some hire karts it may be worth asking a club or a manufacturer to come and do a demonstration s you at least have some on track activity.
Yeah not a bad plan.
It could be worth phoning Mary-Ann ahead of your meeting so you at least know your options going in. You really want to go into a budget knowing your costs so you can negotiate. If they haven't given you a budget up front then you should take advantage of that. It may be that they have no idea of the cost or it may be that they have and they are testing you. Better to have the knowledge and options going in. It's like playing poker. Best to know what cards you have.
Not a bad plan
ehehehe. I heart stupidly cheap domains...
www.feederseries.co.uk
Who do you buy from? I should get one. I'm thinking of a redesign or a move to Wordpress so I'll get one then.
have a look round, but for me http://www.cheapdomainnames.co.uk/ was the cheapest.
£6 for 2 years .co.uk. impressive
Thanks.
You should put this link in your Twitter profile. Or even make a separate account.
Good idea.
