Free Practice was probably about what we were expecting - Piquet wasn't particularly impressive, the BMWs were hit and miss, and Alonso was doing his best to show off for the crowds. Here's to more of the same today. So far, we are discussing:
- Brawn seem to have picked up a few more sponsors this weekend, as well as Williams who have announced two new deals. Is there something about returning to European soil that brings the contracts out of the woodwork?
- Rosberg has been complaining about the massive weight loss programmes some of the drivers have undergone for this season, and he's worried about the effect it's having on their health. I do agree with him on the fact that it shouldn't be happening, but wonder whether the blame doesn't lie with the teams rather than the weight limits? Teams will always push to be able to move weight around no matter how high the limits are, no?
- Toro Rosso are pushing forward with their plans to become a full constructor by next year, despite "these troubled times." It's good to hear some positivity from a team, and talk of expansion rather than redundancy.
That'll do for now. We are so far behind it's not even possible to imagine, but we'll do our best to get caught up, and see you in the comments at the same time.
Good morning new daily thread :D
Joe's new friend is welcome anytime here :)
Finally got control of the gun and shot the guy in the paper suit
? .. I've missed a lot I see
Is he not dead yet, after that queue of snipers?
Don't ask
http://www.shootthebanker.com/
Or here :)
I'm hopeless
im here arnt i????
So what IS it with Nico's FP times, and now Kazuki too?
Yay welcome to sidepodcast
Yay, welcome
yup streky. please tell us a little about yourself if you don't mind.
hey there streky! :D
Gosh. Glad he never asked me that!
Hush! :P Heheh.
:D
Me too
Maybe there are interviews now?
:D
:D
maybe i should go first?
:-) so...... Streky......
good plan
Bit late now!
You have to apply to be on here? I think a lot of us will be in trouble
But you're Mr. C. That's like asking Superman
My name's..... errr... 'Me'
errr.... I bunk off work to photograph F1 cars in a straight line that appear in magazines and then on websites that... Oh forget it
right...
my name is "me", or "mr. c" and i'm addicted to live commenting.
i'm married to christine who's ace. christine set up sidepodcast cause she came up with a cool name. the two of us, along with a cast of a thousand fantastic friends make f1 podcasts that you can listen to and watch (or read if you like transcripts).
i should probably get out more but indoors is more fun.
howzat?
shouldn't that be "me"
i didn't... i mean... i...
oh.
sidepodcast anonymous?
Out! oops. sorry.
new big piccie (yesterday's but we're running late):
http://www.f1bigpicture.com/
awesome!
Mr potato nose :D
Yes, a schoolboy error on my part
The headings on that site read like a James Allen slideshow
still there, streky? :)
hehe. he tweeted that he had a beer with darren heath this evening... am worried.
Ooh, that one's very striking
erm is this one going to work
A beer, a payment, conversation, someone snoring
yup :)
a hand gesture
You're almost a regular now!
yes me here thanks been having erm problems hope sorted now ty
Is it really almost 2am in UK land?
yeah. one second, i'll snap the moon.
no worries. welcome! :)
Dont you people ever sleep?!
Depends who's asking?
It's possbile that it wasn't me!
What was the question?
it was just dinner, to be fair, but yeah, i feel a JA-VOed PPT coming on... ;)
We is borg, resistance is Finnish
[refer to earlier comments]
We do - rather late. ;)
Nooooooooooo!
It worked
No
That's relative
Actually, Steven was right, no
Is there an asside with Joe this weekend?
Sorry, *aside*
Yeah, in the editing suite
Be out soon, Sidepodtime
christine's doing f1 digest and it'll follow after that.
hehe.
Cool.
Poor Christine, it'll probably be done before she goes to bed
Editing suite... Sounds like a fancy studio. :D
Are you saying it's not? :)
I'm picturing one of those radio studios, probably 3 or 4 producers....
Then there's the film crew,
Right?
Methinks if SPC kept it to themselves, it could come out when it's good and ready [sleep permitting]
They're just too darned committed
That's it!
You've not seen a Sunday recording then ;)
It's a mad schedule that's for sure
Ah, exporting/uploading is so yawnsome.
Here's the latest Big Pictures: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/05/the_volvo_ocean_race.html
Number three is my favourite.
I'm sure it's a great studio. Not sure if it's fancy, though. ;)
To be honest, our use of the word studio is pushing it.
Pauli, you must see one of them recordings - maybe the weekend Amy's hosting? Wait, is Amy hosting the next panel?
I [heart] their big pictures too
I'll try. I am meant to be *awake* for work on Monday mornings though.
Don't spoil the magic, next thing you'll be telling him you're not in L.A.!
yup. sunday, 9pm.
It's soundproofed, right? That's a studio. ;)
I love those Volvo 60s.
did you hear that owl?
Oh, they are Volvo 70s now it seems.
I like 3 and 25
ooh, might attend that if i manage to wake up. ;)
that said, amy's sidepodaddiction went up pretty darn quick! she's only been active since... february?
that only happened once! :P
#29. hehehehe
I like the diver one, number 7
and the window was open ;)
i'll check.
and 26
#31 whoa! check that out. F1 of the sea. If you've ever sailed......
amy's first comment (i think).
See? Hahaha!
Darn Internet, keeps cutting out like a 2005 McMerc engine...
Anyhow, I have 11 hours to go out of town, have lunch, come back, watch Star Trek, and be back in time for qualifying. Will I make it? :D
Star Trek is most worth it it
so from first comment to panel host in less than 2 months. that's amazing!
And it was regarding Heikki
Quell suprise!
:-)
That is crazy. She must be Borg.
It's THAT good, eh? Really worth a watch, then. ;)
Watched Wolverine lat night. Meh.
Yup, exactly. :D
Hehehe. Nothing short of astonishing in my book.
I really enjoyed it and was fearful that Abrams would muff it up
Have been fan since ST:NG
Realised tonight that my last 3 cinema visits have all been IMAX
Don't know how I'll consider a 'normal' screen again
We need an Amy specific category in the addiction ladder
Can wait for that, thought there was too much hype and not enough chatter
[never a good sign]
I dunno, I'm not a fan of IMAX except for 3D stuff. Too expensive for my taste, when a normal screen does just as well.
no, she needs a special path named after her.
how about "The Amy Fulton Express Lane"?
Tis expensive, but these days I do cinema only 4 or 5 times a year
Rest is DVD
Not for The Dark Knight
Was it shown on IMAX here? Yeah, I think it was. Didn't watch it there, though. ;)
Was a special IMAX print too, I actually felt a little vertigo
[seriously, I did]
I can't do IMAX at all as it makes me dizzy
Sit at the back, book early
Too larger than life?
for some reason pics are taking a while to get to drop.io. here's one taken at 2am.
i call it "sidepodcast by night"
shall do that every hour until the sun rises ;)
No I get very travel sick and I've twice tried IMAX and been sick both times
UFO's?
Will the dots change?
might be streetlamps.
can't say i've ever paid much attention.
x1 poddie:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/09/f1-digest-2009-spain-free-practice/
Best go Monthers day shopping then. Se ya'll at FP3
Brilliant! :D Let's make it happen, then?
bye pauli :)
Pity we couldn't do a route map to go with it
how about "sidepodcast after dark", ala MS Windows 3.1? :D
It's the same route as the regular ladder. The only difference is that you stop for nothing. :D
Like monopoly, do not pass go!
Nah, she passes Go, but she doesn't stop on it. She doesn't get sent to Jail too. :D
Miaow, pity Heikki isn't as fast *run*
Heh. :P Amy's not here... yet.
Just as well or my name would be mud!
I'm off to bed, see you all soon. TTFN
night jackie.
Hehe.
And I've gotta go too - hope I make it back in 10 hours! :D
So, Mr C
About those Doohickey ideas
Only kidding
G'night
hehehe!
ahh, go on then ;)
Sidepodcast creators need rest too
see ya tomorrow.
I like 25 & 26
Mr. C? I'm having some trouble with the dohickey... It loads the interface, but nothing loads after that, no post or comments or anything.
is there an error (could not load comments, or similar)?
No, it's just totally blank. Would a screenshot help?
hmm, not sure. are you commenting through the old comments or lclt?
Umm... the first one was old comments, now I'm using lclt. I just realized I could.
that is very odd. can i ask what browser/os you're using?
Windows XP on a 4 year old laptop. I use a mix of either Firefox or Chrome. Right now I'm in Chrome.
Is there anyone here?
We're here.
hey faceman32, you ok?
Sorry kinda rude, just gettin' ready to go out for the evening
i can't think of any reason why it might be causing issues. could you try clearing your cache(s)?
There is always someone here. But not for much longer in my case
you can't sleep, you'll miss the sun coming up!
;)
no worries, where are you off too?
I am using an even older version of XP and have been on the doohickey for hours today without any problems. Using firefox
In the west of Scotland when the sun comes up it is the second week in August for three days
I'm off to a friend's wedding fundraiser. Sort of a drinkfest. So I'll likely miss fp3 and quali
I'll try rebooting too, brb.
:D
damn. we'll miss you. are ya back for the race?
Must be an expert. Switch it off and back on again
It's not funny. We need a sun tan to become white. Normally we are a touch blue. Forget all that nonsense about woad. It was just a reaction to the temperature
I really hope so... Kinda early for us Canadians tho. Just gotta say this place rocks! Thanks for providing such a great place for great people to meet.
It's good really. The sun is bad for you.
you know if we could fix the time difference, we'd do that too ;)
So is hypothermia. Apparently lots of Scots have vitamin D deficiency due to lack of sun
I thought sidepodtime did that
Good night all, and by the way am I an addict for watching fp1 and fp2 while reading the comments in 'real time'?
Good night faceman
stage 2, maybe?
I am going to bed now. Otherwise I will stay up all night and I have too much to do tomorrow. I wish I got tired at night like normal people insteadd of waking up more the later it gets.
I suggest Christine and Mr C get some sleep too. There is no point overdoing it tonight if it knocks you out for the rest of the weekend.
true. but we're getting there.
catch ya in the morning.
If you want to sleep Mr. C, I'll just live comment with the lclt. We can fix my dohickey another time.
Good night all
ahh, no. we're editing podcasts.
did it not help when you rebooted?
No... it's still the same. Just the interface, nothing in the list of threads or any comments loaded...
Could it be from setting a few proxy settings with a firefox add-on?
ooh, not sure. that wouldn't explain chrome though would it?
No, it wouldn't, but it used to work before I setup the proxy.
be interested to find out if that was the issue.
Whatever I can do to get the Dohickey back. It's my favorite way to comment.
it's certainly still functioning. on x3 browsers and two machines all is good.
Oh well, I need to sleep if I'm going to catch FP3. I'll see you in the morning. Maybe I can figure something out.
And thank you for the help.
ok. will keep playing. catch ya later.
I hope you can keep this up Mr C. I'm back from shopping and you are still awake! I thought you two would be wel asleep by now
We're getting there :)
Well it's good work. Just listening to the Digest over lunch. Sounds good.
nothing happened at 3am or 4am. but 5am in sidepodland.
Nice shot. Those UFOs are still there
Hmm. i think Martin Whitmarsh is a tad optimistic
Wow. Christine is a Guru! Nice chat with Lisa :-)
Here it is:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/09/an-aside-with-joe-the-politics-of-a-free-lunch/
Hope it's okay, cos I must give in to the sleeps now.
Great Christine.
Sleep!
Good morning all (actually, I woke up at 3pm, don't tell anyone)
Oooooh I read the old comments. But it's ok, at the moment you speak only the truth :(
hi amy.
must sleep.
bye amy.
Ah, so that's how you do it. Here I was thinking you never actually slept.
only on Saturdays ;)
Good day for it. You must be wrecked on Monday morning at work
I tend to fall asleep at about 7pm on Wednesday evenings, two giant sleeps a week keeps me coherent the rest of the working week :)
Morning folks, just watched a bit of Roary on Five :D
Just took An Aside With Joe down on the mp3 player for a wander around Albert Park. First time I have been back since all signs of F1 disappeared. It looks so empty :(
I liked this wee touch in the BMW pit box though, no other team had them.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc06875-jpg
Codemasters are apparently claiming F1 2010 will be "the best F1 game ever." I sure hope so with a statement like that.
http://www.virtualr.net/f1-2010-best-f1-game-ever/
Got Pizza, got beer, ready for FP3 :-)
And we're back. :)
hullo.
we're getting pretty good at this. Go newhickey!
nice in here, innit?
Maturing, I'd say. :D
In case you didn't notice Jon's post earlier:
Felipe Baby: The MTV
we had some issues last night. and we'll have a think about them. but getting better.
such as?
For GP2, this place says it shows it, but dunno if it will
http://www.justin.tv/racingrevolutions
Hello... Daily thread is back baby :)
What time is Race 1? I'd want to watch it after listening to Joe.
The website suggests 2 hours and 18 minutes so about 4BST
Piquets replacement is on pole, no?
time for me to get a little bit of ict revision done then while listening to radio one's big weekend :) . will be back later :)
i got tickets to go last year, but was properly ill and they wouldnt let me transfer the tickets into anyone elses name (cus you need ID to prove you're you apparently) and didnt get tickets this year, so refuse to listen to it lol
Anyone know what sort of time the race fuel levels get released?
Too long after qualifying - does it take so long because of all the scrutineering and each of the cars being weighed?
i tried to get tickets last year cause it was in maidstone... sooo close to where i live. but i didn't manage it. this year i just couldn't cause of exams, but the line up is brilliant. anyway... revision.. :(
last week was 1.12am Amy time. Current Amy time: 11.44pm
Scott, you should've seen the last 2 minutes of quali. Heart-in-mouth stuff!
during a race weekend, such as now. if you open doohickey, it defaults to the live thread.
if people arrive and expect to be able to just start typing, as you would on any other day of the week, comments don't end up on daily.
however, it has to default to live so that people can just arrive and join in the race discussion.
Aha yes. A trap for young players...
just noticed qualy was an hour earlier last time, so I predict a release at 2.12am. Precisely.
:)
another for the list.
tweetdeck says my "rate limit exceeded" what does this mean? and it wont let tweets come through!
help please :)
You've tweeted too much? ;)
twitter restrict the number of refreshes you can do an hour. i think you just have to sit tight until the clock ticks over.
Listening to Joe now:
So wait - USGPE will actually happen??
or that :)
oh ok :( boo
he said "the money is in the bank". it might well do.
loved this week's show, lots of good info in there.
i've only sent 17 so far....so not sure
wow... i'm actually surprised people are investing in them. Americans, at that!
the cost of trucks vs. planes though... that might be a bit of a challenge.
it says "Remaining API 0/100 Resets 15:29"
this means that i get 100 refreshes an hour and it's going to reset at 15:29?
that right?
sounds like it, yeah. 30 minutes to go.
yup.
boo, this means i have to go on the twitter website, and do it...*Gulp* manually :D
ok. we must sleep again. enjoy the afternoon everyone. catch you all shortly.
Later, Mr C. :)
The Andrew Benson discovery story is brilliant! :)
hooray, time to watch qualy on tv compressed into a half hour show.
Wow ... you're becoming cats!
watching the nen-duo of Raikko and Kovalai be eliminated isn't any less painful the second time.
Poor Amy. :(
its ok, there could be a pileup at the first corner, taking out all the fast cars except Rubens, resulting in a KOV-BAR-HAM podium.
Imagine the odds you'd get on that. I could retire on the profits.
That would be astonishing.
or go broke from the cost...:D hehe
GP2 race is on now.
http://www.justin.tv/dimoni
Thanks for the link mate
thanks! I don't know who aaaany of the cars are, but I'm willing to learn.
Those stands got empty mighty quick.
There's no Anando y'see.
:D
this has way better racing than F1 :D
Learn them. The racing was fantastic last year.
Just joined, who's commentating?
its too hard when the broadcast quality is justin.tv because everything is a pixelated blob. But the racing is good even if I don't know who it's between!
poor Di Grassi, almost lost that good looking head of his.
Is the safety car going to be able to come in before the end of the race?
That was a silly incident, boys being boys. ;)
I think so, but am not sure.
And it's in. Back to green.
I slag off Grosjean and he is going to win the race. I wish I had Amy telepathy
mine failed today though.
Not to mention that di Grassi wasn't really in collision before he went out...
Phew, garden work all done for today. Thank god. :P
& Huelkenberg is nowhere
Grosjean and Petrov make it an ART 1-2.
do you think Flav rings up Piquet and is all 'hey, your replacement actually wins races'
Barwa rather. I'm not up to date with who's where in GP2.
Someone wants to take the passes off those marshals. On the edge of the track on the run from the outside of the last corner. That is insane
It is not helping Piquet. That is for sure
Piquet must be watching this and sweating profusely...
Crikey, what happened to cause so many retirements?!
he'd be all "but i won in GP2 too!"
"OK, maybe you should go back there"
Driver errors caused a lot of them. These guys are still young and error-prone.
what on earth is that hat! worse than kimis for sure
Nice cap on Grosjean. He's certainly strong enough to win the GP2 title... if he isn't already in F1 before then.
I have to go out now. Back later. Wish I had seen more than the last 4 laps of that race.
So Kobayashi and van der Garde will be on the front row for tomorrow's Sprint Race.
They didn't show the start, and I was watching historic sportscars from Spa, but something must have happened. Hulk dropped way back to 15th by the time I joined.
Yup - lots of stuff happened. :)
Don't forget Indy later
http://indycar.neulion.com/indy/console.jsp
By the way, race 2 is 9am uk time
oh man, I'm never going to get any sleep.
Is it qualifying weekend? Surely the race isn't for another 2 weeks?
Sleep now and wake up early. :)
Or are you waiting for the weights?
Oooh, pun! :D
You are only addicted to one formula and you are getting almost no sleep. Wait till you are addicted to everything on four or two wheels.
And if that is not enough on Monday we have live commenting of the space shuttle launch. Not sure how many wheels it has.
Quali this week
She's on the express lane/lift - give her 2 weeks. Just in time for Indy! :D
I watch Indy! Watched Scott Dixon win last year :D
Just to show how addictive sidepodcast is I forgot about the Rangers Celtic game today. How is that possible.
:D With GP2 today, you're well on your way. ;)
It just is. :D No questions asked. Haha!
this is pretty much me:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/christmas-back-home-png
time for a sidepodsail!
have fun y'all!
Niiice! :D
:D
I just learnt that GP2 is on TV in NZ :( how come the TV coverage there got so good after I left. First it was F1 practice, and now this!
Morning everyone (Here in EDT time)
Just a thought:
Given the success of "Felipe Baby" perhaps it is time for mr. C. to bring back "Jive Bunny" or "Devo" with Christine as the lead singer ?
I know, I know. Not retro enough. How about if Christine pairs herself up with five Yankee nobodys so that they can themselves "Brunette", provided Christine does not die her hair?
:P
Let us see how many memebers get this joke...
I'll be honest with ya: I didn't. :D Too many subtle references I have no clue about. ;)
Reading the article on him on F1.com, I have decided I want a little New Zealand necklace like Brendon Hartleys :D
The whole month of May until Memeroial Day was just devoted to the Indy 500 when champcar had a massive schedule, with qualifying periods on each weekend Think it went top third, middle third, and bottom third on "bubble" day. It also explained why the 33rd position has a faster car than the pole position in some races.
I am also sure that there are many members who will not admit to being old enough to get the references, right Steven Roy?
Well, a while ago, mr. C. made a reference that he thoguht it would be a good idea to make an apology for "Jive Bunny"....
That's like my Uncle's family in Nottingham...
ooh I just remembered I bought a custard square to eat for qualy. Is 2am a strange time to be having desert?
Really? Since when?
My Swedish friend has a pounamu one from when she lived in NZ :)
I'd call it an early morning snack. :D
since 2009 on sky sport 2
Wooo I'm a bit woozy coz my dryer broke and started smoking!
one of my friends had north island and south island cufflinks when he got married :D
Comment in moderation.
weights not out yet but press conference transcript has just been released
Sound advice. Everything should be done in moderation ;)
Aren't they usually out by now?
we are currently 13 minutes away from the time they were released last race, to be precise ;)
Looks like I'll get to sleep soon, then. ;)
you and me both :D
Q: Rubens, you’ve got your compatriot, Felipe Massa, with KERS right behind you. How much is that a threat and what’s the feeling like that he’s got an extra 80bhp after he reaches 100kph?
RB: I’m thinking I might start on the second red light!
I heart Rubens.
Too true. Haha! :D
hahaha :D aw awesome :) the perfect distraction from revision... i mean perfect thing to keep my occupied in my break :D
Brilliant :D
Right. 2:13 AM Amy time. Is it up? :D
nope :(
OH GOD NO LOOK AT WHO IS IN SPAIN
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Pages/on_event.aspx
I love how they made it a digital version of how it really looks like at the press center in the paddock. :D
OH NO! :O
Lewis' woman vs. Jenson's woman then. :D
Jenson's wins every time. :P
eeeeeekkk!
They're coming to Odense, apparently :(
I guess we should be thankful THAT woman is yet to get on TV. She must be spewing.
Jenson's girlfriend isn't annoying yet. she doesn't go screaming up and down the pitlane etc..
Let's hope we don't have a boring race tomorrow then. Or else, the director might just look around... ;)
IRL have pulled their own vid feed from their site, just showing a press conf room... useless. So go here instead if you are interested: http://www.justin.tv/nascarpower
Exactly. :) And she probably won't. :D
but it is one at a time so it might be hugely interesting to sit and watch, best having it on the background :-)
timing: http://www.indycar.com/timing_scoring/
THAT woman hasn't made it on to F1.com either, only Mrs Anando is there.
gah, might NOT be hugely interesting
http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/f1_media/Documents/esp09_weights.pdf :D
No wonder the site suddenly slowed right down. 5 minutes later than last time... ;)
Oh Jenson is lighter. I wish the list was in grid order. VET heavier than BAR though.
so jenson is lighter than rubens? i strangely wasn't expecting that...
not even linked to on the main page yet, I guessed the URL ;)
Hamilton heaviest as well, so Brawn only did well cos they are exceptionally light
you need a blog! :D that's brilliant! thanks amy :)
Webber and Vettel on the same fuel makes Webber look even worse
Have we ever told you how much of a legend you are?
They're not exceptionally light. Button is only a lap or two lighter at most. And with Massa heavier than all of the top 3, Button's strategy might be the right move if Massa suddenly gets up to 2nd.
This kind of dedication... in less than 2 months. You're a legend, Amy. :D
Thanks to KERS, of course. :)
How about Glock - same fuel load as Button, and yet he's down in... 7th, is it?
I like to get them out as early as possible so other people can do the hard work in actually interpreting them :D
Here's my guess.
Button will pit on Lap X.
Barrichello will pit on Lap X + 1.
Vettel will pit on Lap X + 2.
:D
By the looks of what I remember in live timing, he was 0.6 slower in S2 than Button I think, so he might have made a mistake possibly?
And Massa will pit on Lap X + 3.
I'd guess so, yeah, his S1 was amazing, from what I remember.
Question, why are Webber and Vettel the same fuel load cos wouldn't that mean they are going to pit on the same lap?
In grid order
Jenson Button 646.0
Sebastian Vettel 651.5
Rubens Barrichello 649.5
0Felipe Massa 655.0
Mark Webber 651.5
Timo Glock 646.5
Jarno Trulli 655.5
Fernando Alonso 645.0
Nico Rosberg 668.0
Robert Kubica 660.0
Kazuki Nakajima 676.6*
Nelson Piquet 677.4*
Nick Heidfeld 676.3*
Lewis Hamilton 683.0*
Sébastien Buemi 678.0*
Kimi Räikkönen 673.0*
Sébastien Bourdais 669.0*
Heikki Kovalainen 657.0*
Adrian Sutil 675.0*
Giancarlo Fisichella 656.0*
They'll use a different fuel mix. Vettel may be using a more aggressive fuel mix that would mean he'd run out of fuel quicker.
Yeah weird!
Alonso is the lightest of the top 10, so qualifying 8th is a big disappointment.
someone did that last race as well iirc.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75184
Kubica's already complaining!
Especially when Piquet is not far behind...
He's not complaining so much as ranting. He's actually happy that the car has made progress. I like his chances to score some points tomorrow.
I know everyone is all "future world champion!" but he drives me batty. I am so, so, so glad he didn't win last year.
Yep, and earn his place on my FR roster!
Alonso will crush him anyway. :P
Me too. :D
He started out all fine. He just started to... change... last season.
Ironic you said "Batty" when he reminds me of Lurch!
At the start of the season I said I didn't want to know the weights, but I must admit I was wrong. I have a girl crush on the weights. The weights make me happy. Long live the weights.
Because by the time the race starts I've forgotten them all anyway.
And they're not the be-all and end-all of the race. :)
*waves*
hiya :)
Nah, Webber is so much heavier than Vettel that Vettel enjoys a 5 lap advantage on the same fuel load just due to the fact that all the power generated by the fuel goes into pushing the car forward and not overcomming the differnece in toonage... :D ...
Hehe. But yeah, their personal weights might explain part of the difference.
Hi Lukeh, what's the good word?
Hi Lukeh - did you remember your phone today?
The weather is nice outside, work was surprisingly good and a nice customer I dealt with today reminde dme how rewarding it can be sometimes so a good day in all :)
Although a Rubens pole would've made it an epic day :P I'll happily settle for Jenson though!
:D
Yes I did
I might start keeping a tally of how many cakes are in the paddock this year. I have spotted at least 10 already.
Do the drivers get any of that? :P
no doubt there will be another tomorrow as it's a certain BMW driver's birthday lol
i can't work out why Pedro had a cake today. His cake is what has set me on this crusade!
that's a good point, it's not his birthday is it?
maybe to celebrate his 10th anniversary in F1? he's been around since '99.
nope, wikipedia says its in Feb. I know its his home race but surely thats not worth a cake.
anyway, off to bed for me.
good night. :)
they did that in Australia http://twitpic.com/2k72w
sharp eye, Amy. No idea what this is for, then. ;)
good night!
last thing: Amy, it's 3 AM. Get some sleep. :P
if that is why he has a cake then Alonso should also get one right? maybe he baked it? he cooked some Spanish omelettes with Lewis the other day, maybe it's got him in a cooking mood? lol
Wooow at Andrew Shovlin's reaction to jenson's lap...
it was a tiny bit unexpected ;)
just a bit :D
ugh
wow - giving away the steering wheel.
Normally these get retired and added to the collection when a car finishes on the podium.
urge to scream rising
rising
...riiiiising
or as i found out last year at goodwood get used on the cars they take on location to different events and things. cause toyota had Trulli's 07 steering wheel, i got to hold it and everything. lol! :)
McLarens are certainly retired from use.
maybe they gave him a replica like they do with trophies
You can buy replicas of the wheels but a full scale one costs about a grand. Mind you, if you're clever with electronics you can rewire them and turn them into wheels for PC sim racing! :D
I see Grosjean won the first race of GP2...
Nudge nudge, wink wink, Mr Snailatore, y'know what I mean sir, nudge nudge.
Nice and cool, Flav. Nice and cool, know what I mean?
*falls through the bar a la Delboy*
I'll stick with the Lotus one I was given way back in '86 when they were shaking down the cars at Hethal. :D
Can you imagine it - Picket goes to GP2 - Grosjean goes to F1
:D
Another team announces pullout if the 2010 cap goes ahead.
First BMW... Now Toymota.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75164
I was a first-time GP2 watcher, but I noticed the team was "Piquet GP" have they always been this? I thought they were Piquet Sports. Piquet GP scares me that they want to be an F1 team ;)
Typically its my two favourite teams isn't it.
Naturally they'd be a bit Piquet in more ways than one ;)
To be fair - Toymota are the first team to actually annouce that unless changes are made they will not enter. BMW are just very very unhappy.
crikey. that is a big statement.
Look at Lewis' body language in that photo... it's like she's dragging him along...
Or the excuse Toybota were looking for (Like Honda and the Credit Crunch)...
It's quite an awkward pairing there, and very miserable!
so what's ferrari's need for an excuse?
Other than GT racing is more road relevent?
If they do a factory GT1 team they could produce a roadgoing version of that car.
Everytime the rules don't go their way they throw their arms up and threaten to leave. Nothing new there...
i think this time it might be different.
...different because i agree with them :)
I believe their excuse will be wise words once sang by Joe Dolce...
What's-a matter you, hey, gotta no respect
What-a you t'ink you do, why you look-a so sad
It's-a not so bad, it's-a nice-a place
Ah, shaddap you face
:D
I have a Magnum :D
I have pasta
I have the final 2 episodes of the West Wing...
Enjoy.
I watched all 7 series in about 3 weeks. I was hooked.
Oh yeah, did anyone else see that disturbing picture in today's Daily Mirror of Jenson?
No, is there a picture somewhere on the web?
I'll upload the piccy on my phone. It scared me at half 7 this morning so much :(
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/dsc00647-jpg
Full page too, I nearly spat out my tea in the staff room when I saw it :(
Crikey!
loverrly :(
gah! Thats not the best pic I've ever seen
I kinda like it - smiling too much though.
Ah. Finally finished work and now I have a week of absolutely nothing. Slighty annoyed that during my break someone turned the tv on to show the driver's press conference. I wanted to watch the show on iPlayer first! *sobs in the corner*
Follow-up to Felipe Baby?
Apologies for bringing it up here, as I know it's now considered an unmentionable, but for the next BAT game the 1999 carset holds some significance on my behalf - I was one of the main people to work on it! :D
Sadly - it's already a real song....
Lewis is fuelled heaviest of the field, that'll help him off the start from 14th won't it!
Alonso lightest down in 8th
38kg separate them
I know. I'm old enough to remember it when it came out. Famous for keeping Ultravox's Vienna off the number one spot.
Same here, such a travesty, on both counts
Not really, Vienna not their finest work. ;)
But slighty better than "Shaddup Your Face" I'd say
By a whisker, yes.
Man, it gets quiet in here quickly! :P
I have no idea what the others are on about!
I'll second that...
The virtues of pompous New Romantic cod-ballads vs the good old-fashioned novelty single, I think...
A prettty accurate assessment
When the doohickey sleeps, it makes me happy :)
Just remembered in addition to everything else this weekend the Spa LMS round is this weekend. Of course it has less importance round here than it may have because Peugeot chose not to use a certain Frenchman and instead have Christian Klien in the car. Worse than that his car is on pole followed by the second Peugeot, an Aston Martin and a team Oreca Courage which has Bruno Senna on its driving strength
1. Minassian/Pagenaud/Klien Peugeot Total Peugeot 908 HDi 2min 01.056secs LMP1
2. Gene/Wurz/Brabham Peugeot Total Peugeot 908 HDi 2min 01.082secs LMP1
3. Primat/Turner/Ramos Aston Martin Racing Lola Aston Martin 2min 02.488secs LMP1
4. Ortelli/Senna Team Oreca Matmut-AIM Courage-Oreca LC70-AIM 2min 02.570secs LMP1
5. Boullion/Tinseau Pescarolo Sport Pescarolo-Judd 2min 02.674secs LMP1
6. Belicchi/Fassler/Prost Speedy Racing Team Sebah Lola B08/60 Aston Martin 2min 03.022secs LMP1
Got moderated for saying Dranck is not driving in Spa
It should make me happy because it's cute but it doesn't make me happy bercause it means I have nothing good to say :(
I am quite surprised by today's qualifying weights. I was convinced that Button was heavier than Barrichello and that Vettel was probably a litlle lighter than both. Wrong on all counts
Got it.
Boo Peugeot.
Just saw this over on the BBC. Fuel Ajusted Top-Ten:
1 Vettel - 0.000
2 Button - 0.059
3 Massa - 0.151
4 Barrichello - 0.172
5 Webber - 0.389
6 Trulli - 0.454
7 Glock - 0.762
8 Alonso - 0.959
9 Rosberg - 1.321
10 Kubica - 1.728
They listed when they predict the acutal pit stops as well, but I've removed them in case anyone wants to find out in the race tommorow rather than read it here.
Dranck? Must at least scan comments before I post them
Agreed. BOOO! in French
So Vettel and Button's laps were special and so was Massa's.
My tip for tomorrow, Massa.
Doesn't Ted tell you before the race takes place?
Agreed. Vettel for the win as well.
Everyone is going to know before the race
I think he could be a key player. I feel sorry for Felipe and unlike Bobbie K he has not been accusing everyone around him.
Massa looks very strong for the race, he may suprise those infront of him considering he has KERs onboard.
So who's BMW's reserve driver this weekend? Marko Asmer?
Ooh, that reminds me - must get the times from yesterday and today into my Super Season Grid spreadsheet ;)
I didn't want to take the risk of spoiling it for anyone, in case somehow they manage to avoid finding out.
Brawn's weakness is getting a good start - if Jenson gets a good start to lead on the first corner it is going to be difficult for DeSeb - the Brawns have good consistency in the race. The first corner position will be critical.
Way before my time
appreciated all the same :)
It is never 2 am sidepodtime so no
US coverage of Indy quals: http://www.justin.tv/nascarpower
I am reliably informed the next 90 minutes is more interesting than it has been so far..
although I did have that tag on my blog a few months ago... "I watch all this racing so you don't have to"
Even when I'm told before the race I always forget before the stops come around.
Indy quali running order
http://www.crash.net/IndyCar/News/146520/1/indy_500_qualifying_order_revealed.html
they gave up on that after 53 minutes, it was too windy so after 11 or so qualifiers they all said 'no' and the track switched to open practice
Thanks Pat
now the stream has changed channels for some reason
there is a qualifying line. the list posted was the original draw. when the line is clear, a practice session starts which ends when someone joins the line. so the timing screens switch between two modes.
link: http://scoring.indycar.com/flash/?utm_medium=popup&utm_source=indycar&utm_campaign=site_ts_click
it just stopped for me?
:(
buzz is it got shut down
ahh, didnt' have audio on. figured that was some serious buffering.
that's really annoying.
They just switched to Pat Benatar. Of course she is probably quicker than Danica
:D
Qualifying on iPlayer. Finally!
Bill Bailey on BBC2 round about now!
at 9:30? what have they been doing?
Only racing I can find on Justin is live NASCAR
http://www.justin.tv/slapnut
Maybe I just haven't been able to find it.
Slapnut... how appropriate!
By the way, don't watch "Lions for Lambs".
Utter Pants, it was!
Thanks Gavin, had no intention of but good to know
Do watch the new Star Trek movie though!
Saw Wolverine yesterday. Would reccomend that too! Only downside was, because it was a prequil, you kinda already know who would survive.
Yeah I saw Star Trek last night - Spocking Awesome!
Cheers Chris, we nearly did and we will now. Is it kinda like the other X-Men films or is it different?
So it is actually good then? I had a horrible feeling it would be complete pants.
It is a little different, but references the other films. It's set about 20 years before the first film, so characters from the other films reappear (played by younger actors).
we be back: http://www.justin.tv/channel_surfer_
It's the best Trek movie in years. They really nailed it - great story, really funny, actors were great and effects awesome.
It's one of the best prequels/remakes I have seen I reckon...
Excellent, I'll see if I can watch that then.
i moaned about it earlier this week, but bbc's f1 mole is rubbish, rubbish, rubbish. from the sidebar (emphasis mine):
"I aim to bring you the inside track on the gossip and colour that surrounds Formula One."
today's post is titled: "BBC F1's fuel-adjusted Spanish GP grid"
there is no inside information contained within that post whatsoever. nothing.
sidepodspace update.
Amazing as it may seem afte bringing forward the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis STS-125 mission to the Hubble space telescope to Monday NASA have not found any reason to delay it. It looks very likely that it will launch at 2:01pm Eastern (6:01pm UK time - I think) on Monday.
The official countdown has started and is on schedule. NASA TV coverage will start several hours before the launch time so the full build up will be available.
Agreed. It should be more like the Grapevine in Autosport...
Not finding a reason could be a reason...
Cool. 2.01 ET = 7:01 UK
Surely they will find something. Things happening earlier than scheduled is something I just don't understand.
There is still plenty time for them to find a problem
If anyone's interested and not distracted by Indy/NASCAR, here's the average lap times for this weekend as of right now:
Button - 1'21.273
Barrichello - 1'21.455
Rosberg - 1'21.526
Massa - 1'21.609
Webber - 1'21.649
Kubica - 1'21.704
Alonso - 1'21.737
Vettel - 1'21.738
Nakajima - 1'21.743
Piquet - 1'21.848
Raikkonen - 1'21.850
Trulli - 1'21.863
Glock - 1'21.918
Hamilton - 1'22.009
Buemi - 1'22.053
Bourdais - 1'22.163
Kovalainen - 1'22.398
Fisichella - 1'22.468
Heidfeld - 1'22.491
Sutil - 1'22.503
I always get tim conversions wrong so I will take your word for it. I will watch a lot of the build up so there is no chance of me missing the launch unless it goes a day early
Kanaan up for another run
Gap between Button and Sutil - 1.230 seconds.
It will cause a breach in the space / time continuum
I've been converting to US time all day to work out when the quals start/end :-)
And that's why Ferrari made such a big mistake with Kimi today - the gap from first to last is just over a second!
And you would think NASA would be keen to avoid that.
So you think the constant delays are a safety measure?
The PR people should spin it as such. :)
Indy top ten qualifiers so far
Castroneves
Briscoe
Franchitti
Dixon
Kanaan
Rahal
Power
Patrick
Andretti
Moraes
Paul Tracy is back, yay :-)
What values did you use for a lap of fuel and the fuel penalty Scott, those are quite different to what I worked out?
Everyone in there I would expect, except Moraes.
All the others may as well go home. Except for the Scottish guy with a strange name and a shady-looking wife...
Not that I'm saying I'm right btw. I used a value from Real Brawn GP for the fuel penalty and one from Williams for the fuel used per lap
Ah, just ignore me, we are working out different things. Silly me :(
*sigh* I've got to explain once again:
My values are worked out by taking the fastest lap times of each driver from:
All 3 FP sessions
Their best time over the entire qualifying session (usually Q2)
Fastest lap in the race
Why don't you write a blog post about it and then you can just link there if people are curious?
Sorry my fault, I didn't notice the word average until after I posted my comment
You mean the one that keeps beating his Kiwi team mate?
Agrrh... back.
Was forced to abandon quali just before Q3, and refused to allow myself to find out the results (which meant avoiding spc) until I'd seen the rest of qualifying on iPlayer... which took ageeees to turn up...
Will have to miss the race/live shows tomorrow too... :( ...thank goodness for iPlayer... although it doesn't normally take that long, does it?
Yay for Jenson though! :D
I wish I were as smart as you lot sometimes.
Dixon's had a Ricky Bobby Year - "If you ain't first, you're last!"
gooood plan!
Years of experience :)
That's what I thought - I mentioned to Scott that it might be a good idea. All he has to do is write it once and then just link back to it...
That's not the best way to react when someone asks nicely on your methodology :(
It'll be short and sweet but to the point. Will do so right now.
i wish i were a guru like her.
Does anyone record things these days?
I set the DVD recorer even when I'm watching :)
what with?
watching the feed and someone got a ping!
:D
:D
You don't just become a guru. It takes years and years of effort across dozens of websites then you need someone you like in F1 to say something stupid you can write a song about. :)
You need an Eye TV ;)
Sky+ ?
Don't have Sky...
For the race or quali:
VCR
DVD Recoder
Sky+
V+
PVR
There are a few choices
Does anyone know the best way to extract tables from a PDF into Excel?
*That should be DVD Recorder - obviously :)
that's where i've been going wrong since the '80s.
Didn't know you could, sorry.
Start with something other than a PDF? Can you not just cut and paste?
In the event people are confused about Indy's qual format and are interested enough to see a short PDF: http://www.indy500.com/images/news/2009/QualProcA.pdf
Well I can select columns - but that takes a bit of time...
That confuses me more. This 'bumped' stuff and wouldn't it be more appealing to the fans to end with pole day?
Just seen Martin Brundle's steering wheel paddle piece in the qualifying. Really cool and nice to know!
Sorry to bring you back to an F1 related subject ;-) : is there a (good) internet radio where I could listen to the race tomorrow? (no video, just sound). I'm reaching the point at which I'll kill the Fox Sports guys if I listen to them much more time... I have the address for Radio 5 Live and Sports Extra, so maybe the question reduces to this: do they transmit the race and is that transmission available outside UK?
That was a good piece
Not without a web proxy
Google is your friend
yes. no.
as yet no-one's had much luck hearing 5live web streaming outside the uk.
:-(
But they follow the race, at least that gives me hope...
It means the pole sitter gets more PR during next week. And next weekend is the whole drama of whether people will make it into the race or not. It gets more fraught as it goes on. Or they say it did many years ago when they had 50 or 60 entrants albeit under a slightly different format
Good night all - hosting a brunch tomorrow so I might not be able to tune in until racetime... See ya then!
see ya gavin.
Night
Right, if you lovely lot would direct your attention a-here:
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com/2009/05/listen-carefully-because-im-only-saying.html
Ah right. So its really all about the PR then
Night Gavin
Good night Gavin
Dixon going again? Very risky as he had qualified on the middle of the second row
Americans know how to work the marketing properly to get maximum exposure.
Bill Bailey was 5 pints of awesome. It'll be on iPlayer I think. Highly recommended.
It gets interesting next week. These are the top teams and drivers in the series so they are basically going for pole and that's it. Tomorrow is just getting a reasonable starting place. Next week the slower cars are fighting to get in, and they have to trim it right back. Can be scary how much they move around.
Only saw last 10 mins :( wil watch entire show on the iAwesomePlayer.
What was it? Stand up?
Thank you. .. but you have made me feel bad for asking now
They really need to change the name to that!
Singing I think. I only caught a bit.
he was really amazing!! :D
It is a brilliant invention! I missed Bill Bailey because I saw it was about classical music which I'm not interested in - but I could be convinced to iPlayer it too :-)
Right. I've got to go. I'll be on for the parade lap. Are we starting at 11 or ten past? I only ask, because I know BBC start at ten past 12
See ya Chris
10 past sounds good.
see ya.
Sidpodtime is not accurate to ten minutes.
Woo! Return of the Parade Lap! :D
see ya chris.
oh yeah! i'd forgotten all about the parade lap! :D yay something else to look forward to :)
Cool. See ya then then!
I take you'll be taking calls as was the usual? I might be tempted to give the Super Season Grid and Zero Downforce a promo ;)
alex has offered to host some of the show, as we're overworked after last night. there are no plans and no preparation. christine's giving me grief for no picking any tunes, so shall have a look now.
if we were any less organised we'd fail to turn up for the start.
Ooh, guest host! I'll ask Alex beforehand if he's around in the comments whether we can call in :)
Alex will presumably be on skype to SPC Towers and therefore unable to call you
correct.
I thought Alex wasn't going to be around for WEEKS?
He is not allowed to play on SPC other than for the race. The Parade Lap is part of the race I guess.
you cannot escape amy-borg.
Alex Lloyd bumps Hideki Mutoh out barely
Justin Wilson JUST makes it on to the track before the gun is fired to close quali
Castroneves will start on pole. Former F1 driver Justin Wilson is trying to make it in so he can work on race setups for the rest of the week..
as long as you have organised to watch the race then that's cool :) don't worry too much about not being prepared for the parade lap, i'm sure generally talking f1 and thoughts about the race will be fine :)
Justin fails to make his way in. Qualifying is over.
Helio Castroneves gets pole for Indy a few weeks after avoiding jail.
Indy Q1: Castroneves, Briscoe, Franchitti, Rahal, Dixon, Kanaan, Moraes, Andretti, Power, Patrick, Lloyd - several surprises!
i'm secretly hoping we can overrun for approximately one hour and miss out on hearing eddie.
:D
:( but that means we miss jake too.. :(
yes you can't miss the walking and talking
Q - Parade Lap, what is?
Mute eddie and then unmute when jake and dc talk.
we can't miss out on some walking and talking madness! :D
and the possible appearance of the touch screen feature with brundle :P
i missed them all in bahrain and couldn't be arsed to make the effort to catchup even though it was available all week.
eddie is as annoying as blundell.
Steady on..
Blundell wasn't annoying, it was just that you could imagine him not being there at all.
I think the BBC pre-event coverage is awesome, but for some reason this year I don't feel compelled to watch it.
It's almost like, I know they're gonna get it right, so I don't need to keep an eye on them :)
:(
also on the iplayer, is it me or is it the race without the pre race coverage?
missed today's too. not in the slightest bit interested in hearing jordan's thoughts on anything.
Blundell? Not annoying? What?
You just know they're playing nicely. Sort of. :P
but they had a good interview with brawn and things... it's not all about eddie...
It is a pre-race sidepodshow. It runs for one hour before the BBC coverage starts
I tend to tune him out and concentrate on other things when he speaks, but I keep it on because of Jake, DC and the features.
He could be ignored, I could forget he was even talking. Jordan on the other hand...
teehee...
I've inadvertently been hearing EJ being interviewed (in between his 'tracks of my years' ) by Ken Bruce all this past week... took me until Friday and mentions of 'playing' after F1 races to realise who KB was interviewing... (v.r.f.)
The music choices were pretty good though - suitably eclectic....
blundell was a bit stupid, and never made to be on tv.
eddie is worse, because he's smart enough to have an agenda an push it to the limits and beyond. he's abusing his position and i want no part of hearing who's arse he's kissing this weekend.
replay:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/11/02/live-so-what-are-you-baking-for-the-race/
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006wr34
should anyone want to admit to being equally sad as I and feel like finding out what was played/said....
too annoying for me. i can't watch the tv race coverage because of legard either.
for me f1 is currently 5live or nothing sadly.
I didnt see all of qualy but in what I did see, I heard 'Rubens is the OLDEST MAN IN F1' from legard. Nuff said.
Am I the only one who can stand legard?
Mainly cos I only half listen to the coverage, so no matter what I watch I won't listen to it properly
oh i heard some great classics today before i switched over to croftie :)
It's either 5live or listening to me chatter on.
Is he... I thought he wasn't even as old as I...
LPG poddles off to wikipedia...
Ta
So either 5 live or Radio Tees
Maybe you two should do a commentary feed.
i'm with you about the commentary, although i do skip between the two sometimes. i do love the bbc coverage apart from that though. i don't like Eddie but i just try to ignore him. it's no where near as bad as the coverage last year, and jake is a star. i just really cant pick holes in it, because in the end they obviously listened mostly to what the wider f1 community didn't like about the itv coverage and set out to make it 100 times better. Plus the f1 forum is amazing. :)
in the end we were never going to be and probably never will be 100% happy with f1 coverage, things in life a rarely perfect after all :)
:D
we might have enough to do. although we do have a commentary free audio feed now...
Goodwood news. I have been invited to a family wedding on that weekend and I might have to go to it. Will look into into doing Fri or Sat rather than Sat or Sun..
You record nothing?
the onboard channel is commentary free.
Oh.
*Pretends he knew that in the first place and walks on
Were you looking for pre-show music earlier?
It can be. There are options on Sky for BBC1, Radio5, or none
yup. has to be podsafe though.
hehe. using it would be illegal mind you. but it is there, which it wasn't in '08.
there is a commentary free option on the red button too isn't there?
will check
supposedly, but not sure we've got it to work yet.
Oh, OK, he is older than I am... only by 10 days mind.
He's not the oldest driver ever though is he? There were older ppeeps than him just last season??
Hang on... he's not old at all....grrrr
oh. it works fine for me on sky :( ... it's lovely :)
yeah, freeviews not as good.
I did! :D
:(
I hear your pain :(
I have an idea which you may or may not like to consider. Think it is okay but is only freely available as a MySpace stream.
Which reminds me - isn't Freesat just Freeview with the name changed a bit, and HD channels?
hmm?
and masses more bandwidth.
Pretty much, and you nede a dish like Sky I think
What was that site we all used for podsafe music again? I might have a rummage and see if I can dig something out for a request :)
http://www.myspace.com/samisaac
play 'Sticker Star & Tape'
it was the one I mentioned a while back with a certain line in it (actually this is a new version of it)
Ah we've got one of those anyway, no probs.
something from james allen:
"I understand that two teams, Lola and USGPE have paid deposits on a supply of Cosworth engines, so they appear to be serious about coming in."
Didn't someone post that here yesterday?
will take a look. can't stream myspace down while sending live video up, but if i can download it, no probs.
he only wrote it today?
There is a way you can download music from MySpace if there's no option to, but I forget how.
ahh, wait. yesterday, sorry.
I could swear someone did actually
http://music.podshow.com/
Not according to this:
http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/05/08/patrick-head-on-why-two-tier-f1-wont-work/
Nice one, ta.
could well have done. we're sleeping some odd hours this weekend.
Ooh, found something already!
OK, my request is "Spanish Rose" by Munkey Juice. :)
The oldest ever was 50 something
excellent. thanks.
:)
Am wondering if that Heikki song is podsafe...
Fangio wasn't it?
:D
heehe. who wrote it>?
Errr, good question?
Louis Chiron of Monaco - 58 years and 288 days.
OK, so not (late 40's when he retired)
Looks like Legard's comments were a reaction to this though
http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2009/4/9249.html
Oh gawd, came acroos that pic of flav when looking in drop.io.
Must sleep now, so if someone else can find, be great, cheers, ciao.
Fair enough, it's still soemthing about the way he said it though at the end of Q3. Just shouted it out out of nowhere. I dunno, probably just me :)
night rg.
Oh totally... bleurgh!
And I repeat... RB is *not* 'old'... I'm definately not so no one my age is allowed to be thought of as!
your going to try and sleep after seeing that flav pic.....good luck!
night
night rg
Bye RG.
I can't believe how tired I am. When I finish this beer I may disappear too.
I am not sure he was th oldest. There were a few drivers in the 1950s whose careers were ruined by the war so they raced much later than would normally be expected.
one of those special kind of beers where you disappear eh? i hear they can cause terrible hangovers
Gives a new twist on sucking vapours...
Surely beer alone isn't enough to cause a hangover though?
eh?
Well... given the strength of most beers... that is? Is that framed better?
:-D
just drink more.
its a special beer, its power to make you dissapear means your head hurts lots more, proper hang over...
how did i get to this point in my life, i've made up a beer that makes people disapear...
Um.. keep drinking it and it does.
Lol
Ah 'scumble' you mean? (read Mort....)
I've still never managed enough beer to have a hangover though.....
Drink stronger beer.
drink faster?
That too.
talk less?
*runs*
rofl...
One day I'm sure I will... but I've not managed it yet...
To be insensible and loose chunks of my life (oh, blessed absinthe...)? yes... to try out a hangover.... rofl...
OK... so maybe that is being a tad insensitive.... sorry...
I'll be quiet now....
mumble....
Catching up with the drop.io, finally listened to the Smedley thing (full version - I heard the short one at the time) and just discovered Christine on the radio! I completely missed Friday so didn't realise it had happened. Good stuff!
been a crazy couple of days.
Watching Paycheck on BBC1. I remember seeing it in the cinema, very good film.
They've moved the GP2 from 7:30PM to 2AM tomorrow... :-(
I wonder if I should get up at 7AM to see the second GP2 race or I should save myself of another TV deception...
You are a brave, brave man.
hehe. oops.
And by brave you mean stupid, of course.
Just got a brilliant tweet but I don't think I can share it due to high levels of innuendo :-)
Yes, yes indeed :D
Oh go on, if it's innuendo then it'll be fine....
Not exactly stupid. Misguided, perhaps naive would be a better description.
I blame myself. I let him get away with too much.
requires a short intro.. during Indy qualifying both the 'expert' and the team radio kept referring to "working with the tools in the car".. the engine mapping, weight jacker, etc.
The withholding of nachos is probably sufficient pain......
RT @MyNameIsIRL There's a strip club called "Strokers Club" that is now following me. Clearly I made too many "playing with the tools" jokes today.
:). Then again, he looks after the figures while you do the talking...
Lol
Andy is starting to worry about twitter...
he mentions zombies *once* and now he has people from some official zombie channel following him...
erk!
On the subject of Twitter, I have several followers who I think believe me to be the Andy Taylor of Duran Duran fame. I mentioned zombies the other day and now have 2 followers which are zombie related...
I say we impose a suspended 3 race ban on his nachos.
Are you reading over my shoulder?
haha, LPG beat you too it ;)
:D
:D
For anyone not sleeping right now...
x1 podcast: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/10/f1-digest-2009-spain-qualifying/
x1 new daily: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/10/daily-10th-may-2009/
Enjoy. I am now off to the land of nod.
Nope... I just read and type faster than you do...
... I'd have replied sooner, but I was having a quick rant elsewhere...
I am watching the cupcake parade lap show because someone linked it earlier.
Thanks Christine
Goodnight
awesome, thank you
sleep well!
surely you know how it ends though?
don't spoil it!!! :P
just skim-read the daily for the 8th. you guys are making me feel guilty for not keeping up with you. i'm going to have a major podcast catch-up at some point.
I like the bit with the camel. Or is that too much information?
:o
Bah. iTunes doesn't see the latest podcast episodes, even after hitting "Refresh"
It does take a short while to filter down to iTunes
I think the thread for the 9th is about to wind down so this seems a good time to bid you good night :-)
blame steve jobs for that one. the files are in the feed and we've pinged them to say it's there.
can you not just subscribe?
night pat.
I am subscribed.
oh. it's synced just fine in mine. what the url of the feed you're subscribed to?
I am easily confused. I have it playing in the background and Christine made a comment about someone qualifying with a et set up. My instant thought was what kind of lunatic would use a wet set up today?
Whatever happened to the sidepodcast branded cupcake mix you were going to sell?
the unbranded versions are currently for sale in tesco. they have postman pat images on the box...
but surely that means that they are postman pat brand?
it says http://feeds.sidepodcast.com/sidepodcast
I've got F1 Digest - Spain Qualifying
but not F1 Minute for 10th May
that isn't the podcast feed!
oh wait. yes it is.
Is F1 minute a different feed? If so, I blame the late hour.
:D You're suffering the late hour too then?
Beer?
ignoring my last comment for a second, cause i'm a fool.
if you browse to http://feeds.sidepodcast.com/sidepodcast you can see the latest two shows listed, no?
wine. shh.
sadly
The Main SPC site has 9th May F1 Min so that may gave been a typo
we let them use it.
hehehe. she's not that good ;)
I can see qualifying and Aside with Joe. Both I have in itunes, I was being confused by the lack of a "daily" podcast, but that's F2 Minute, so all is well I think.
you have the episode for the 9th of may though, right?
shhh...
long as it isn't absinthe... you'll lose days that way (but not have a hangover :-D )
:-P
righto. good to hear ;)
Christine Blachford - F1 Guru and Time Traveller
Yup
F2?? Minute?
Obviously I meant F1Minute, not F2 Minute.
F2 minute? Branching out into feeder series now are we?
Small blue box?
I was thinking they were branching out even further!
she's not that good either!
Yes, he has had beer......
bigger on the inside?
does she have a secret obsession with converse and suits?
Not that much beer though. I've only had one can of Hobgoblin this evening.
Anyone have an idea what This show is all about?
Inside F1: 10th May, BBC2 03:55
I have a feeling this was on BBC News 24 earlier this evening
To quote Bill Bailey - c'est un boit de telephone. l'interieur c'est beacoup plus grand de l'exterieur.
it's a little short show the bbc have been doing, like a preview to the race weekend, usually recorded after fp 1 & 2. i've watched a few, i didn't really learn much tbh...
I was going to bed. Now I have something to listen to when I get there - goodnight all (again).
Night!
same here. night everyone.
night!
Thanks Lou
G'night to those retiring for the evenng
it's often on the red button over a race weekend too btw ;)
anyways bed time for me too i think. so night to everyone asleep/going to sleep/ continuing the sidepodtradition and staying up late :P x
Night Lou
i want to sleep, but i'd be letting the team down lol
night.
i'm off too, see y'all in too few hours
I'm gonna put out a blanket goodnight where required :)
40 minutes into the cupcake parade lap show Mr C said "What we really want is for Ferrari and McLaren to lose the development race this winter." I think he has Amy telepathy
Good night Lou and anyone else who is going to bed early
In slightly shocking (but amazing happy news), Abi (my girlfriend) has booked 15th August off work, so that we can go to Brands Hatch. I think WOOOO is an understatement! :D
Brilliant! Is she a motorsport fan too? ;)
Not at all, thats why its so great :D
Wow. Anything in the name of love, eh? You lucky dog! :P
Then again, my girlfriend did book a couple of days off work so we can go to Singapore, but she's at least a casual fan...
This is only club motorsport, but thats where its at, a good (cheap) day out!! :)
sidepodspace update
NASA are predicting 80% chance of favourable weather at Kennedy for the launch and only a slight chance of isolated showers at Moron in Spain which is the only one of the normal three trans-Atlantic abort sites that can be used for this launch.
Tomorrow the mission commander and pilot will practise landings at Kennedy in the shuttle training aircraft.
It looks like the launch is going to happen.
Apparently, even Brawn is against 2-tier F1, and wants a HIGHER amount for the budget cap. FOTA want to talk to Max ASAP.
So this pretty much means that NONE of the current teams are agreeing with Max's proposal.
As Joe said, nothing is set in stone yet. As it stands, I expect either no budget cap at all for 2010 (unlikely), or a very high cap (something in the region of 100M) for 2010, with the number going down 20M each year until we get to 40M by 2012 or so.
Good night Lou and anyone else who is going to bed early {Comment #798}
Well, I'm still here ;)
In slightly shocking (but amazing happy news), Abi (my girlfriend) has booked 15th August off work, so that we can go to Brands Hatch. {Comment #799}
This is great news :)
