Free Practice was probably about what we were expecting - Piquet wasn't particularly impressive, the BMWs were hit and miss, and Alonso was doing his best to show off for the crowds. Here's to more of the same today. So far, we are discussing:

  • Brawn seem to have picked up a few more sponsors this weekend, as well as Williams who have announced two new deals. Is there something about returning to European soil that brings the contracts out of the woodwork?
  • Rosberg has been complaining about the massive weight loss programmes some of the drivers have undergone for this season, and he's worried about the effect it's having on their health. I do agree with him on the fact that it shouldn't be happening, but wonder whether the blame doesn't lie with the teams rather than the weight limits? Teams will always push to be able to move weight around no matter how high the limits are, no?
  • Toro Rosso are pushing forward with their plans to become a full constructor by next year, despite "these troubled times." It's good to hear some positivity from a team, and talk of expansion rather than redundancy.

That'll do for now. We are so far behind it's not even possible to imagine, but we'll do our best to get caught up, and see you in the comments at the same time.

  • Christine09/05/2009 at 01:07

I'm sure it's a great studio. Not sure if it's fancy, though. ;)

To be honest, our use of the word studio is pushing it.

Pauli, you must see one of them recordings - maybe the weekend Amy's hosting? Wait, is Amy hosting the next panel?

so from first comment to panel host in less than 2 months. that's amazing!

  • Bassano Clapper09/05/2009 at 01:16

    amy's first comment (i think).

    And it was regarding Heikki

    Quell suprise!

  • pauli (oz)09/05/2009 at 01:17

  • Bassano Clapper09/05/2009 at 01:21

    Watched Wolverine lat night. Meh.

Realised tonight that my last 3 cinema visits have all been IMAX

Don't know how I'll consider a 'normal' screen again

  • Jackie09/05/2009 at 01:22

Hehehe. Nothing short of astonishing in my book.

We need an Amy specific category in the addiction ladder

  • Bassano Clapper09/05/2009 at 01:22

    Watched Wolverine lat night. Meh.

Can wait for that, thought there was too much hype and not enough chatter

    [never a good sign]

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 01:23

Don't know how I'll consider a 'normal' screen again

I dunno, I'm not a fan of IMAX except for 3D stuff. Too expensive for my taste, when a normal screen does just as well.

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 01:23

We need an Amy specific category in the addiction ladder

no, she needs a special path named after her.

how about "The Amy Fulton Express Lane"?

  • Bassano Clapper09/05/2009 at 01:24

I dunno, I'm not a fan of IMAX except for 3D stuff. Too expensive for my taste, when a normal screen does just as well.

Tis expensive, but these days I do cinema only 4 or 5 times a year

    Rest is DVD

    Not for The Dark Knight

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 01:25

Was it shown on IMAX here? Yeah, I think it was. Didn't watch it there, though. ;)

Was a special IMAX print too, I actually felt a little vertigo

    [seriously, I did]

  • Jackie09/05/2009 at 01:27

Was a special IMAX print too, I actually felt a little vertigo

    [seriously, I did]

I can't do IMAX at all as it makes me dizzy

  • Bassano Clapper09/05/2009 at 01:28

Mr. C? I'm having some trouble with the dohickey... It loads the interface, but nothing loads after that, no post or comments or anything.

is there an error (could not load comments, or similar)?

  • Vinnie09/05/2009 at 02:59

No, it's just totally blank. Would a screenshot help?

  • me09/05/2009 at 03:03

hmm, not sure. are you commenting through the old comments or lclt?

  • Vinnie09/05/2009 at 03:03

Umm... the first one was old comments, now I'm using lclt. I just realized I could.

In the west of Scotland when the sun comes up it is the second week in August for three days

  • Faceman3209/05/2009 at 03:10

I'm off to a friend's wedding fundraiser. Sort of a drinkfest. So I'll likely miss fp3 and quali

It's not funny. We need a sun tan to become white. Normally we are a touch blue. Forget all that nonsense about woad. It was just a reaction to the temperature

  • Faceman3209/05/2009 at 03:13

I really hope so... Kinda early for us Canadians tho. Just gotta say this place rocks! Thanks for providing such a great place for great people to meet.

So is hypothermia. Apparently lots of Scots have vitamin D deficiency due to lack of sun

  • Steven Roy09/05/2009 at 03:20

I am going to bed now. Otherwise I will stay up all night and I have too much to do tomorrow. I wish I got tired at night like normal people insteadd of waking up more the later it gets.

I suggest Christine and Mr C get some sleep too. There is no point overdoing it tonight if it knocks you out for the rest of the weekend.

did it not help when you rebooted?

  • Vinnie09/05/2009 at 03:22

No... it's still the same. Just the interface, nothing in the list of threads or any comments loaded...

  • Vinnie09/05/2009 at 03:26

Could it be from setting a few proxy settings with a firefox add-on?

  • Amy09/05/2009 at 08:25

Just took An Aside With Joe down on the mp3 player for a wander around Albert Park. First time I have been back since all signs of F1 disappeared. It looks so empty :(

I liked this wee touch in the BMW pit box though, no other team had them.

i got tickets to go last year, but was properly ill and they wouldnt let me transfer the tickets into anyone elses name (cus you need ID to prove you're you apparently) and didnt get tickets this year, so refuse to listen to it lol

  • Alex Andronov09/05/2009 at 13:41

Anyone know what sort of time the race fuel levels get released?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/05/2009 at 13:42

Too long after qualifying - does it take so long because of all the scrutineering and each of the cars being weighed?

i tried to get tickets last year cause it was in maidstone... sooo close to where i live. but i didn't manage it. this year i just couldn't cause of exams, but the line up is brilliant. anyway... revision.. :(

  • Amy09/05/2009 at 13:44

last week was 1.12am Amy time. Current Amy time: 11.44pm

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 13:45

Scott, you should've seen the last 2 minutes of quali. Heart-in-mouth stuff!

  • me09/05/2009 at 13:46

    such as?

during a race weekend, such as now. if you open doohickey, it defaults to the live thread.

if people arrive and expect to be able to just start typing, as you would on any other day of the week, comments don't end up on daily.

however, it has to default to live so that people can just arrive and join in the race discussion.

twitter restrict the number of refreshes you can do an hour. i think you just have to sit tight until the clock ticks over.

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 13:51

    Listening to Joe now:

So wait - USGPE will actually happen??

  • me09/05/2009 at 13:51

the cost of trucks vs. planes though... that might be a bit of a challenge.

  • Jon Waldock09/05/2009 at 13:56

it says "Remaining API 0/100 Resets 15:29"

this means that i get 100 refreshes an hour and it's going to reset at 15:29?

    that right?

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 13:57

    that right?

its ok, there could be a pileup at the first corner, taking out all the fast cars except Rubens, resulting in a KOV-BAR-HAM podium.

Imagine the odds you'd get on that. I could retire on the profits.

poor Di Grassi, almost lost that good looking head of his.

  • Scott Woodwiss09/05/2009 at 15:07

Barwa rather. I'm not up to date with who's where in GP2.

  • Steven Roy09/05/2009 at 15:07

Someone wants to take the passes off those marshals. On the edge of the track on the run from the outside of the last corner. That is insane

  • Steven Roy09/05/2009 at 15:08

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 15:11

Nice cap on Grosjean. He's certainly strong enough to win the GP2 title... if he isn't already in F1 before then.

  • Steven Roy09/05/2009 at 15:12

I have to go out now. Back later. Wish I had seen more than the last 4 laps of that race.

  • GrahamS09/05/2009 at 15:12

Morning everyone (Here in EDT time)

    Just a thought:

Given the success of "Felipe Baby" perhaps it is time for mr. C. to bring back "Jive Bunny" or "Devo" with Christine as the lead singer ?

I know, I know. Not retro enough. How about if Christine pairs herself up with five Yankee nobodys so that they can themselves "Brunette", provided Christine does not die her hair?

    :P

The whole month of May until Memeroial Day was just devoted to the Indy 500 when champcar had a massive schedule, with qualifying periods on each weekend Think it went top third, middle third, and bottom third on "bubble" day. It also explained why the 33rd position has a faster car than the pole position in some races.

They're not exceptionally light. Button is only a lap or two lighter at most. And with Massa heavier than all of the top 3, Button's strategy might be the right move if Massa suddenly gets up to 2nd.

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 16:23

I like to get them out as early as possible so other people can do the hard work in actually interpreting them :D

    Here's my guess.

Button will pit on Lap X.

Barrichello will pit on Lap X + 1.

Vettel will pit on Lap X + 2.

    :D

  • RG / Mark Webber09/05/2009 at 16:25

How about Glock - same fuel load as Button, and yet he's down in... 7th, is it?

By the looks of what I remember in live timing, he was 0.6 slower in S2 than Button I think, so he might have made a mistake possibly?

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 16:25

Button will pit on Lap X.

Barrichello will pit on Lap X + 1.

Vettel will pit on Lap X + 2.

And Massa will pit on Lap X + 3.

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 16:25

By the looks of what I remember in live timing, he was 0.6 slower in S2 than Button I think, so he might have made a mistake possibly?

I'd guess so, yeah, his S1 was amazing, from what I remember.

  • RG / Mark Webber09/05/2009 at 16:26

    Here's my guess.

Question, why are Webber and Vettel the same fuel load cos wouldn't that mean they are going to pit on the same lap?

  • Flibster09/05/2009 at 16:26

    In grid order

    Jenson Button 646.0

    Sebastian Vettel 651.5

    Rubens Barrichello 649.5

    0Felipe Massa 655.0

    Mark Webber 651.5

    Timo Glock 646.5

    Jarno Trulli 655.5

    Fernando Alonso 645.0

    Nico Rosberg 668.0

    Robert Kubica 660.0

    Kazuki Nakajima 676.6*

    Nelson Piquet 677.4*

    Nick Heidfeld 676.3*

    Lewis Hamilton 683.0*

    Sébastien Buemi 678.0*

    Kimi Räikkönen 673.0*

    Sébastien Bourdais 669.0*

    Heikki Kovalainen 657.0*

    Adrian Sutil 675.0*

    Giancarlo Fisichella 656.0*

  • Journeyer09/05/2009 at 16:26

Question, why are Webber and Vettel the same fuel load cos wouldn't that mean they are going to pit on the same lap?

They'll use a different fuel mix. Vettel may be using a more aggressive fuel mix that would mean he'd run out of fuel quicker.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/05/2009 at 16:27

Nah, Webber is so much heavier than Vettel that Vettel enjoys a 5 lap advantage on the same fuel load just due to the fact that all the power generated by the fuel goes into pushing the car forward and not overcomming the differnece in toonage... :D ...

Hehe. But yeah, their personal weights might explain part of the difference.

Hi Lukeh - did you remember your phone today?

  • Lukeh09/05/2009 at 16:49

Hi Lukeh, what's the good word?

The weather is nice outside, work was surprisingly good and a nice customer I dealt with today reminde dme how rewarding it can be sometimes so a good day in all :)

Although a Rubens pole would've made it an epic day :P I'll happily settle for Jenson though!

    Yes I did

You can buy replicas of the wheels but a full scale one costs about a grand. Mind you, if you're clever with electronics you can rewire them and turn them into wheels for PC sim racing! :D

To be fair - Toymota are the first team to actually annouce that unless changes are made they will not enter. BMW are just very very unhappy.

Just remembered in addition to everything else this weekend the Spa LMS round is this weekend. Of course it has less importance round here than it may have because Peugeot chose not to use a certain Frenchman and instead have Christian Klien in the car. Worse than that his car is on pole followed by the second Peugeot, an Aston Martin and a team Oreca Courage which has Bruno Senna on its driving strength

I am quite surprised by today's qualifying weights. I was convinced that Button was heavier than Barrichello and that Vettel was probably a litlle lighter than both. Wrong on all counts

    2 Button - 0.059

    3 Massa - 0.151

    4 Barrichello - 0.172

    8 Alonso - 0.959

    9 Rosberg - 1.321

  • Rich09/05/2009 at 20:14

Agreed. Vettel for the win as well.

Brawn's weakness is getting a good start - if Jenson gets a good start to lead on the first corner it is going to be difficult for DeSeb - the Brawns have good consistency in the race. The first corner position will be critical.

Do watch the new Star Trek movie though!

Do watch the new Star Trek movie though!

Saw Wolverine yesterday. Would reccomend that too! Only downside was, because it was a prequil, you kinda already know who would survive.

Yeah I saw Star Trek last night - Spocking Awesome!

It is a little different, but references the other films. It's set about 20 years before the first film, so characters from the other films reappear (played by younger actors).

It's the best Trek movie in years. They really nailed it - great story, really funny, actors were great and effects awesome.

It's one of the best prequels/remakes I have seen I reckon...

i moaned about it earlier this week, but bbc's f1 mole is rubbish, rubbish, rubbish. from the sidebar (emphasis mine):

    sidepodspace update.

Amazing as it may seem afte bringing forward the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis STS-125 mission to the Hubble space telescope to Monday NASA have not found any reason to delay it. It looks very likely that it will launch at 2:01pm Eastern (6:01pm UK time - I think) on Monday.

The official countdown has started and is on schedule. NASA TV coverage will start several hours before the launch time so the full build up will be available.

    Kanaan up for another run

Not that I'm saying I'm right btw. I used a value from Real Brawn GP for the fuel penalty and one from Williams for the fuel used per lap

  • Jackie09/05/2009 at 21:11

What values did you use for a lap of fuel and the fuel penalty Scott, those are quite different to what I worked out?

*sigh* I've got to explain once again:

My values are worked out by taking the fastest lap times of each driver from:

    All 3 FP sessions

Their best time over the entire qualifying session (usually Q2)

    Fastest lap in the race

  • Christine09/05/2009 at 21:12

    Agrrh... back.

Was forced to abandon quali just before Q3, and refused to allow myself to find out the results (which meant avoiding spc) until I'd seen the rest of qualifying on iPlayer... which took ageeees to turn up...

  • guille230609/05/2009 at 21:23

Sorry to bring you back to an F1 related subject ;-) : is there a (good) internet radio where I could listen to the race tomorrow? (no video, just sound). I'm reaching the point at which I'll kill the Fox Sports guys if I listen to them much more time... I have the address for Radio 5 Live and Sports Extra, so maybe the question reduces to this: do they transmit the race and is that transmission available outside UK?

It means the pole sitter gets more PR during next week. And next weekend is the whole drama of whether people will make it into the race or not. It gets more fraught as it goes on. Or they say it did many years ago when they had 50 or 60 entrants albeit under a slightly different format

It gets interesting next week. These are the top teams and drivers in the series so they are basically going for pole and that's it. Tomorrow is just getting a reasonable starting place. Next week the slower cars are fighting to get in, and they have to trim it right back. Can be scary how much they move around.

  • Christine09/05/2009 at 21:58

    correct.

I thought Alex wasn't going to be around for WEEKS?

  • Steven Roy09/05/2009 at 21:59

I thought Alex wasn't going to be around for WEEKS?

He is not allowed to play on SPC other than for the race. The Parade Lap is part of the race I guess.

    you cannot escape amy-borg.

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 22:00

Justin Wilson JUST makes it on to the track before the gun is fired to close quali

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 22:02

Castroneves will start on pole. Former F1 driver Justin Wilson is trying to make it in so he can work on race setups for the rest of the week..

  • lou09/05/2009 at 22:03

if we were any less organised we'd fail to turn up for the start.

as long as you have organised to watch the race then that's cool :) don't worry too much about not being prepared for the parade lap, i'm sure generally talking f1 and thoughts about the race will be fine :)

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 22:04

Justin fails to make his way in. Qualifying is over.

  • Steven Roy09/05/2009 at 22:05

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 22:11

i missed them all in bahrain and couldn't be arsed to make the effort to catchup even though it was available all week.

eddie is as annoying as blundell.

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 22:15

eddie is as annoying as blundell.

    Steady on..

  • RG / Mark Webber09/05/2009 at 22:15

eddie is as annoying as blundell.

Blundell wasn't annoying, it was just that you could imagine him not being there at all.

  • Christine09/05/2009 at 22:15

i missed them all in bahrain and couldn't be arsed to make the effort to catchup even though it was available all week.

I think the BBC pre-event coverage is awesome, but for some reason this year I don't feel compelled to watch it.

It's almost like, I know they're gonna get it right, so I don't need to keep an eye on them :)

  • lou09/05/2009 at 22:16

i missed them all in bahrain and couldn't be arsed to make the effort to catchup even though it was available all week.

also on the iplayer, is it me or is it the race without the pre race coverage?

  • me09/05/2009 at 22:16

It's almost like, I know they're gonna get it right, so I don't need to keep an eye on them :)

missed today's too. not in the slightest bit interested in hearing jordan's thoughts on anything.

It's almost like, I know they're gonna get it right, so I don't need to keep an eye on them

You just know they're playing nicely. Sort of. :P

  • lou09/05/2009 at 22:17

missed today's too. not in the slightest bit interested in hearing jordan's thoughts on anything.

but they had a good interview with brawn and things... it's not all about eddie...

  • Steven Roy09/05/2009 at 22:17

It is a pre-race sidepodshow. It runs for one hour before the BBC coverage starts

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 22:17

missed today's too. not in the slightest bit interested in hearing jordan's thoughts on anything.

I tend to tune him out and concentrate on other things when he speaks, but I keep it on because of Jake, DC and the features.

  • RG / Mark Webber09/05/2009 at 22:17

    Blundell? Not annoying? What?

He could be ignored, I could forget he was even talking. Jordan on the other hand...

  • littlepurplegoth09/05/2009 at 22:18

eddie is as annoying as blundell.

    teehee...

I've inadvertently been hearing EJ being interviewed (in between his 'tracks of my years' ) by Ken Bruce all this past week... took me until Friday and mentions of 'playing' after F1 races to realise who KB was interviewing... (v.r.f.)

The music choices were pretty good though - suitably eclectic....

  • me09/05/2009 at 22:18

    Steady on..

blundell was a bit stupid, and never made to be on tv.

eddie is worse, because he's smart enough to have an agenda an push it to the limits and beyond. he's abusing his position and i want no part of hearing who's arse he's kissing this weekend.

too annoying for me. i can't watch the tv race coverage because of legard either.

i'm with you about the commentary, although i do skip between the two sometimes. i do love the bbc coverage apart from that though. i don't like Eddie but i just try to ignore him. it's no where near as bad as the coverage last year, and jake is a star. i just really cant pick holes in it, because in the end they obviously listened mostly to what the wider f1 community didn't like about the itv coverage and set out to make it 100 times better. Plus the f1 forum is amazing. :)

in the end we were never going to be and probably never will be 100% happy with f1 coverage, things in life a rarely perfect after all :)

You are a brave, brave man.

  • me09/05/2009 at 23:29

You are a brave, brave man.

    hehe. oops.

  • Christine09/05/2009 at 23:29

You are a brave, brave man.

And by brave you mean stupid, of course.

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 23:31

Just got a brilliant tweet but I don't think I can share it due to high levels of innuendo :-)

  • Scott Woodwiss09/05/2009 at 23:32

And by brave you mean stupid, of course.

    Yes, yes indeed :D

  • Andy Taylor09/05/2009 at 23:32

Just got a brilliant tweet but I don't think I can share it due to high levels of innuendo :-)

Oh go on, if it's innuendo then it'll be fine....

  • Andy Taylor09/05/2009 at 23:33

And by brave you mean stupid, of course.

Not exactly stupid. Misguided, perhaps naive would be a better description.

  • Christine09/05/2009 at 23:34

Not exactly stupid. Misguided, perhaps naive would be a better description.

I blame myself. I let him get away with too much.

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 23:35

Oh go on, if it's innuendo then it'll be fine....

requires a short intro.. during Indy qualifying both the 'expert' and the team radio kept referring to "working with the tools in the car".. the engine mapping, weight jacker, etc.

  • littlepurplegoth09/05/2009 at 23:35

I blame myself. I let him get away with too much.

The withholding of nachos is probably sufficient pain......

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 23:35

RT @MyNameIsIRL There's a strip club called "Strokers Club" that is now following me. Clearly I made too many "playing with the tools" jokes today.

  • Andy Taylor09/05/2009 at 23:35

I blame myself. I let him get away with too much.

:). Then again, he looks after the figures while you do the talking...

  • littlepurplegoth09/05/2009 at 23:37

    Lol

Andy is starting to worry about twitter...

he mentions zombies *once* and now he has people from some official zombie channel following him...

    erk!

  • Andy Taylor09/05/2009 at 23:38

On the subject of Twitter, I have several followers who I think believe me to be the Andy Taylor of Duran Duran fame. I mentioned zombies the other day and now have 2 followers which are zombie related...

  • Scott Woodwiss09/05/2009 at 23:38

The withholding of nachos is probably sufficient pain......

I say we impose a suspended 3 race ban on his nachos.

  • Andy Taylor09/05/2009 at 23:38

he mentions zombies *once* and now he has people from some official zombie channel following him...

Are you reading over my shoulder?

Are you reading over my shoulder?

Nope... I just read and type faster than you do...

... I'd have replied sooner, but I was having a quick rant elsewhere...

  • Pat W09/05/2009 at 23:58

  • Andy Taylor09/05/2009 at 23:58

Bah. iTunes doesn't see the latest podcast episodes, even after hitting "Refresh"

  • Bassano Clapper10/05/2009 at 00:01

Bah. iTunes doesn't see the latest podcast episodes, even after hitting "Refresh"

It does take a short while to filter down to iTunes

  • Pat W10/05/2009 at 00:02

I think the thread for the 9th is about to wind down so this seems a good time to bid you good night :-)

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:02

Bah. iTunes doesn't see the latest podcast episodes, even after hitting "Refresh"

blame steve jobs for that one. the files are in the feed and we've pinged them to say it's there.

    can you not just subscribe?

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:02

    night pat.

  • Andy Taylor10/05/2009 at 00:03

    can you not just subscribe?

    I am subscribed.

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:04

    I am subscribed.

oh. it's synced just fine in mine. what the url of the feed you're subscribed to?

  • Steven Roy10/05/2009 at 00:04

I am watching the cupcake parade lap show because someone linked it earlier.

I am easily confused. I have it playing in the background and Christine made a comment about someone qualifying with a et set up. My instant thought was what kind of lunatic would use a wet set up today?

Whatever happened to the sidepodcast branded cupcake mix you were going to sell?

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:05

Whatever happened to the sidepodcast branded cupcake mix you were going to sell?

the unbranded versions are currently for sale in tesco. they have postman pat images on the box...

  • littlepurplegoth10/05/2009 at 00:06

but surely that means that they are postman pat brand?

  • Andy Taylor10/05/2009 at 00:06

oh. it's synced just fine in mine. what the url of the feed you're subscribed to?

    it says http://feeds.sidepodcast.com/sidepodcast

  • Bassano Clapper10/05/2009 at 00:06

    I am subscribed.

    I've got F1 Digest - Spain Qualifying

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:08

    it says http://feeds.sidepodcast.com/sidepodcast

    that isn't the podcast feed!

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:08

    that isn't the podcast feed!

    oh wait. yes it is.

  • Andy Taylor10/05/2009 at 00:08

but not F1 Minute for 10th May

Is F1 minute a different feed? If so, I blame the late hour.

  • Andy Taylor10/05/2009 at 00:09

    oh wait. yes it is.

:D You're suffering the late hour too then?

  • littlepurplegoth10/05/2009 at 00:09

    oh wait. yes it is.

    Beer?

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:09

ignoring my last comment for a second, cause i'm a fool.

if you browse to http://feeds.sidepodcast.com/sidepodcast you can see the latest two shows listed, no?

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:09

    Beer?

    wine. shh.

I can see qualifying and Aside with Joe. Both I have in itunes, I was being confused by the lack of a "daily" podcast, but that's F2 Minute, so all is well I think.

  • me10/05/2009 at 00:11

  • Bassano Clapper10/05/2009 at 00:17

Anyone have an idea what This show is all about?

    Inside F1: 10th May, BBC2 03:55

I have a feeling this was on BBC News 24 earlier this evening

  • Andy Taylor10/05/2009 at 00:17

    bigger on the inside?

To quote Bill Bailey - c'est un boit de telephone. l'interieur c'est beacoup plus grand de l'exterieur.

it's a little short show the bbc have been doing, like a preview to the race weekend, usually recorded after fp 1 & 2. i've watched a few, i didn't really learn much tbh...

40 minutes into the cupcake parade lap show Mr C said "What we really want is for Ferrari and McLaren to lose the development race this winter." I think he has Amy telepathy

In slightly shocking (but amazing happy news), Abi (my girlfriend) has booked 15th August off work, so that we can go to Brands Hatch. I think WOOOO is an understatement! :D

    sidepodspace update

NASA are predicting 80% chance of favourable weather at Kennedy for the launch and only a slight chance of isolated showers at Moron in Spain which is the only one of the normal three trans-Atlantic abort sites that can be used for this launch.

Tomorrow the mission commander and pilot will practise landings at Kennedy in the shuttle training aircraft.

It looks like the launch is going to happen.

  • Journeyer10/05/2009 at 00:45

Apparently, even Brawn is against 2-tier F1, and wants a HIGHER amount for the budget cap. FOTA want to talk to Max ASAP.

So this pretty much means that NONE of the current teams are agreeing with Max's proposal.

As Joe said, nothing is set in stone yet. As it stands, I expect either no budget cap at all for 2010 (unlikely), or a very high cap (something in the region of 100M) for 2010, with the number going down 20M each year until we get to 40M by 2012 or so.
