Free Practice gets underway today, so we will finally get back to the racing action. It's been a good couple of weeks, so it'll be nice to see those cars going round and round again. Meanwhile, here's what we've been talking about:
- Turn 9 has had some safety upgrades following Kovi's massive accident there last year. Apparently a bit of an incline has been added at the back of the gravel trap, new gravel, plus some improvements to the tyre barrier itself. Heikki himself says he isn't worried about returning to the track at all.
- Mario Theissen is just as concerned about the two-tier championship as the rest of us, and has even hinted that presenting it to the board - who are already unhappy about the lack of results - will not encourage them to continue in the sport.
- Finally, Ferrari have decided to keep KERS on board for Barcelona, despite all the problems they've faced so far with it. Massa must have got his way, as he was adamant that without the technology they had nothing to give, and that pretty much seemed to be the case.
That'll do it for now. There'll be multiple threads along later to get the action going throughout the day. Don't forget to update your Fantasy Racers team (a reminder will be along shortly, so save your strategy stories for then!), and I'll see you in the comments.
G'Day everyone!
It feels like it's been ages since the last race I think. Finally it's back!
couple of links that may not have been covered yet:
- nick on bmw's spanish developments: "In the case of our car, it would almost be simpler to list the things that haven't changed."
- progress has also been made on ferrari world abu dhabi
hey sean.
Maybe Kubica will finally have something to smile about
Right, time for bed. Goodnight to all :)
Same here. Night!
I completely forgot about Fantasy Racers. I changed part of the team after Bahrain and I meant to check all the numbers...
i have been at work 15 minutes and im already counting down to home time because home time means free practice! Yay F1 cars!
Yay, although they are getting later and later :-(
Actualy Im still here having a mega argument on MSN which is fun. Gonna go now properly, with the final statement that the highlights section of Facebook is one of the worst things ever on the internet - "So and so has become a fan of eating food, So and so has become a fan of ice cream, so and so has become a fan of opening their flippin' eyeballs in the morning, etc" - Gahhh!
*vents*
Phew... night.
Sounds like Twitter!
Weekend Preview: http://toomuchracing.blogspot.com/2009/05/weekend-preview-9-10-may-2009.htmlWith that, to a very late bed.. Wanted to get that out so I didn't have to tomorrow :-)
Ah. http://toomuchracing.blogspot.com/2009/05/weekend-preview-9-10-may-2009.html
Anyone else seen the photo of current RBR drivers with stand in, kiwi Brendon Hartley? Vettel looks positively old in comparison. I won't comment on MW.
i like it, i always think of f1 as a nocturnal activity, daytime sessions confuse my bodyclock so i love getting back to europe and normality :)
Are you a vampire? I don't know how you can stay up for those panels!
Is Hartley auditioning for the part of the new James Hunt?
in the rbr pics hartley is wearing a necklace with a teeny tiny new zealand on it that my workmates called me crazy to notice . Im so proud of my wee country for producing someone who didnt go to v8s "because its easier"
i dont stay up for panels, i wake up for them :) although i was awake at 4am today so that invalidates my argument. I have forgotten the hours normal people sleep clearly.
I admire your sidepoddedication!
JA'a article regarding the Alonso-Hamilton presscon is VERY interesting, as are the replies to it.
Article here.
James was accused of misquoting Alonso to suit his needs, something that James has strongly denied. His explanation is at the bottom of the page as a comment.
I'll take James' side on this one - whether on purpose or not, Alonso did send across a message that Lewis' reputation has been damaged, and Lewis was affected by it. James may be a bad commentator, but he was never a bad journalist.
I agree. Having read James comment it sounds about right.
Somebody suggests that perhaps Lewis was surprised by Lewis being nice to him. That actually doesn't ring true. Most of these guys are nice to each other during the conferences and Alonso and Lewis have always been very careful (especially in Spain) to do that. So it was the change in tone that Lewis was presumably reacting to.
its funny how having commas in different places to the official transcript makes jamess version read so differently. I didnt interpret it as a "knife twist" at all, but then again i wasnt in the room and didnt see lewis's reaction.
not to mention the presence (or lack thereof) of the word 'now'.
it's fernando being fernando. he may not have meant to twist the knife, so to speak, but his statement had that effect.
Mr C, if you haven't yet, can you turn off that caching thing you did a few days back? I plan to follow FP1 and FP2 via ye olde comments - I only have IE6 on my work PC. :D
Isn't it ironic that Max introduced the budget cap partly as a way to help keep manufacturers in the sport. He thought that they'd stay in the sport because it would cost them less.
Of course, manufacturers weren't concerned about the costs so much as they were about winning. Now Ferrari, BMW, and maybe Renault all want out of the two-tier regs.
Oops.
Yeah... absolutely agree. I think what he said brought it home to Lewis.. But I'm not sure he said it thinking that.
G'Day everyone! Does the BBC coverage for FP1 start in 20mins or 50mins?
How about a Coldplay-Taylor Swift classical mashup to start your day? :)
I think Fernando was just being his honest self and made the point that the press will soon forget about liegate if Lewis keeps churning out good performances.
But whenever Lewis' and Fernando's names are mentioned together everyone thinks they are trying to get the better of the other when they actually have no problem with each other.
In comparison, he doesn't hold McLaren in the same light:
Hungary 2007 showed that they DO have a problem with each other. Alonso got mad at Hamilton for not following the team's orders to let him through.
It may not be anywhere near the scale as his anger at McLaren but it doesn't mean that it's not there.
That said... is this what would've happened had Michael Schumacher gone to McLaren instead of Ferrari in 1996.
I am a bit confused with Alonso's talk. He tries to make it look like it was his decision to leave. But as I remember it was the team that let him go
wasnt it a mutual thing?
Lewis is as much to blame for the events as Fernando. I was watching what he told the press afterward and at that point I lost any respect for him, after claiming that he followed team orders he didn't see why he should move over. Essentially showing that he would only follow team orders when it benifited him.
If Hungary 2007 had gone down differently, one of the two would have been WDC and we would have seen how much they enjoyed the competition there was between them. We didn't see that because of Hungary 07 which lead to Alonso's belief that the team were backing Hamilton over him.
Fernando and Lewis will never be buddies but at the same time the hatred that was protrayed as being between them by the media isn't there.
what an innocent look :-)
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/127991
He still had a contract with McLaren at least for the following season, so he could have stayed with the team. In the end decided to leave and the contract was terminated by mutual agreement. After all McLaren couldn't afford to repeeat 2007 in 2008.
"wasnt it a mutual thing?"
of course that is how it was presented. but if I remember the stories from those days, Alonso came after the 2007 season to talk with McLaren about his future only to learn there is no future for him there. the team paid him off and asked him to keep quiet about the events in the team. of course this may be only one of many versions of the whole story
G'morning peoples.
Eveing Lukeh.
As I've said, Hungary 2007 belies that. And if there really wasn't any hatred between the two of them, they wouldn't have needed to have a one-on-one "clear the air" discussion the weekend after in Monza.
but we didn't even see any sign of that from canada to hungary. i remember alonso angrily asking the team in indy to order lewis to let him through. i wouldn't call that 'enjoying the competition'.
i remember that version too. :) but in the end, it's better for both team and driver to say that it was a 'mutual decision', even if that wasn't necessarily the case.
Who? Me? Worry? :D
I dont think all of fernando's hatred was towards lewis, he was angry at the team for not making him a clear number 1
for sure he was angrier at the team than he was at lewis. but i'm sure he was at least somewhat angry at lewis.
I heart Vettel more and more each passing day. Though not as much as I do Webber as there's only so much man-love to go around.
Anyway, just discovered a gem of a quote following his first win in Italy last year. A journalist said to him, "This must be the best day of your life?"
Vettel's reply? "You obviously weren't there when I lost my virginity."
:-D
Hahaha, awesome!
so much for the 'better than sex' argument :D
Is he James Hunt, only way better? ;)
Random question of the day. But does the standings board thingy in the left of this shot actually have an official name? Leaderboard-thingy-me-do?
:D
Is he old enough for that?
Nico has been talking about the weight loss stuff with Formula 1 drivers and you can't help but agree with what he says. iT's been said plenty of times on here I know but it's just scary seeing how thin some drivers are compared to the previous seasons and we had that event with Alonso (did we have more? Nico says there that 'drivers were unconscious' suggesting more...).
I personally don;t think they should be so harsh with the weight of the cars and the weight of the drivers but we'll see...
the problem is, make the cars too light and the drivers have to loose weight, make them too heavy and the inertia from the crashes is huge
Ah.. pretty much a balancing act then of the weight of the car and the weight of the driver? A lot of the technical regulations go way over my head, as much as I try to read up on them to get more understanding.
That was some gooooood viewing of the 86 spanish GP on the red button :)
But does the standings board thingy in the left of this shot actually have an official name? Leaderboard-thingy-me-do? {Comment #48}
Just "leaderboard". Or "giant leaderboard" if a journalist is desperate for additional verbiage...
Thought as much. Thanks. Only needed to know for curiosities sake as a friend of mine is out in Spain and a picture she has sent me has the leaderboard in a rather awkward place!
Ah.. pretty much a balancing act then of the weight of the car and the weight of the driver? {Comment #52}
If they made the driver/seat combination a mimimum weight as well as having a minimum weight for the car, it would solve the problem relatively simply.
Interestingly Alonso disagreed that it was the reason saying that the weight loss has made him feel healthier after the previous races. And said this was because of the drinks bottle and the fact his back got burned.
They'd still want a light driver - and then fill the bottom of the seat with weight.
...or have J-Lo and her 'ghetto bootie' driving the car. When I was at uni it was just called having a fat arse...
It was also reported that Kovy has gained weight, which seems at odds to the rest of the grid, makes me wonder if dropping 5 kilos really is worth it if he can gain 5.
a picture she has sent me has the leaderboard in a rather awkward place! {Comment #55}
Where would this be?
If the gain in weight gives him better stamina and better lap times toward the end of the race then it can offset the weight gain.
Regardless how the regulations are written a smaller, lighter driver is always a benefit over a taller, heavier one.
They’d still want a light driver - and then fill the bottom of the seat with weight. {Comment #58}
They might do, but that's more or less the situation that existed before KERS. There's a limit as to how much benefit can be gained from putting extra ballast in the seat.
The picture or the leaderboard? She's in Barcelona as I type this. The leaderboard appears to be protruding for an orifice...
Sidepodspace update:
Monday - 6:30pm on the Discovery channel
Final Hubble Shuttle Launch - live...
There's a sidepodspace as well?
It's one of the bigger subgroups within the community. Apparently, a lot of F1 fans are space fans too... :)
Afternoon all.
Hmm looks like the more things change, the more they stay the same really?
It is a bank holiday today in Denmark and I have only just got up because I went out on the town in Copenhagen last night and didn't get back until 4am. I'm off for dinner tonight and then see the Star Trek movie.
How are you all today?
you missed hearing an NZ accent on the BBC broadcast!
afternoon Gavin. No surprises with practise personally.
I'm Ok, still very, very frustrated at myself, posted earlier why and I'm too annoyed to go through it again. Grr. :(
Oooh do tell more!
I was out clubbing with a Kiwi girl last night though :)
Ted interviewed Hartley in the pits during a lull in on track activity :)
Right, off to search for that tehn...
Can you link to it please>?
sorry mate, I should've really... totally not with it today . linky.
christine's FR post is now up:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/08/fantasy-racers-reminder-spain/
Cheers. Ouch.
What shall I do about Kubica? It feels like I'm stuck with an awful present that I can't get rid of!
I've just had work phoning my hosue phone shouting at me about not answering my mobile because they needed someone so I've a bit... grr again. Not sure why they should be angry about that anyways, as well as why they couldn't have phoned house phone first...
You can still be in my F1 team, mobile phone or not ;)
you're really having no luck at all!
One of them days. :(
christine is going to be live on bbc tees any minute now:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_tees/
talking about that song!
Buy a Lotto ticket then...
:o :o
Thanks for the heads up!
even installing Real Player is worth it
Even listening to Boyzone is worth it!
:D
they've already given sidepodcast a big shoutout. we (hearts) lisa mccormick.
Has it started yet?
:D
stupid not being able to listen. i eagerly await a drop.io
can do.
i shall live comment :)
currently playing amy's youtube clip.
christine's on.
IM FAMOUS
or not :D
Hahaha, awesome :)
It took her an hour to perfect it? That's 55 minutes more work than it took to make my song ;)
What's your Youtube username?
lucy smedley emailed the show, to say she likes the song!
Sidepodcast shoutout! :D
best.ever!
http://www.youtube.com/user/slappysquirrell
How did you come up with that?
Wooooo! Well done Christine! :D :D
playing the song... in full.
the name was given to me in 1998 when I first signed up for yahoo by a friend who thought the cartoon character was bitter and cranky much like myself :D
and we were 12, and couldn't spell squirrel ;)
And it shows by the way - my song is so rubbish in comparison! :D
i heard it 100 times already, but it sounds so much better on the radio.
From start to finish it probably took an hour, but not all at once.
you guys have no idea how many years i tried to get a song played on british radio.
...and christine does it by accident
Honestly Christine - I can't believe how good your song is and you made it ONE HOUR! I thought it would have taken ages to do it that well!
I agree, it took me about a day to write 4 lines of my Heikki song.
might just listen to the rest of the show. now playing erasure.
classic... although I admitedly prefer wheatus' cover...
i just managed to get the site to load and i missed it allll. this song is making me feel better though, to be honest.
i hear you callllling oh baaaaaby pleeeease give a little respect to meeeee
i love their accents. I might listen to this forever.
:D
You have the best one though ;)
Now have a A Little Respect trapped in my head, will be their all night :P
http://tvnz.co.nz/motorsport-news/hartley-training-top-1-49-2461970/video
have another hartley interview ;)
how?
I wish they did a podcast of the show cos I'd listen to Lisa :)
its not geolocked, but i didnt have real player and it took foreeeeever to install
ahh, i shoulda gave you more warning, but i had to wait until christine was looking the other way.
he says that F3 drivers go through 4.5G.....i think not
I said to him, don't tell anyone cos I've never been on radio before and it's scary.
He said okay.
I talk to him after and he says: I told everyone I know! They were all listening!
Grr.
will it be avaliable to listen to at some point?
I think Mr C is doing his best as we speak.
dropping now, sir.
I'm excited :D
aww wow :) thanking you :D
oops!
I'm freaked out that Red Bull know what his heart rate is when hes in New Zealand.
yeah, that is a little wierd
It's just coz he's so proud of you - and we are too ;)
that conversation in full:
tis all true.
:) yup yup
Christine, you sound so confident for your first radio appearance :)
He may actually be worth the risk this weekend. It depends if you believe his FP1 or FP2 pace more. We shall see...
I remember the time she created her very first podcast... :)
i like that she's now been elevated to "guru" status.
hahahahaha.
i may have to play it to her again, just to keep her feet on the ground ;)
and you're just in charge of the numbers? ;)
i also like how Lisa thinks that you can watch podcasts....:P
LeeMcK Twitter:
McLaren cocktail list just been sent through tonight it is the Absolute Taste Catalan Dragon.
GURU! Fits her to a tee. :D
my life sucks :(
I just googled it because I actually hadn't before, it really is everywhere. I like that one of the first results says "Some people have far too much time on their hands."
Time on their hands? Sidepodcast? That's laughable.
Play it for all of us! Better yet, make it a post. :D Would love to hear the before and after. :)
Oh, don't say that. You know Sidepodcast wouldn't exist without your mad skillz. :D
the drop.io page has had in excess of 10,000 views.
(i know this cause i'm in charge of numbers)
oooh, i may just do that. good man!
I like numbers ;)
:D
Not sure if anyone's mentioned this:
Winner will not take all in F1 championship
And just as well, too. :)
plus a lot of the newer discoveries of it are linking to the youtube video version and bypassing you completely. It just turned up on the Team McLaren forum yesterday.
ahh cool. so it was a typo? bodes well for the rest of the regulations.
All we need to happen now is for us to get mentioned on national BBC. :D
What did the Team McLaren folks say? :)
?!
I haven't seen this reported at all!! :o
true. also, don't have numbers from sidepodcast downloads. that's just what's been heard from the drop.
More like a versioning error. Someone edited the wrong version, apparently. Good move to strike this one down decisively. :)
"What a grin :D:D:D:D"
"Awesome LMAO"
"AWESOME haha ! :D:D"
":D:D:D"
not quite a roflcopter, but lots of :Ds and a LMAO.
this is fantastic! Really pleased they actually saw the light on this one.
an infestation of smileys!
and a capital awesome, the most awesome of all awesomes!
not quite a roflcopter, but lots of :Ds and a LMAO.
Very, very good. :D It's a bit ironic that something Christine did as an aside may become Sidepodcast's breakout moment in the wider F1 community. :)
Sites like SPC and F1F have been on the up lately, getting good numbers. I think this is a good omen for how F1 will organically grow online in future. :)
Except for Five Pints of Awesome, of course. :)
Hoping we get more people to drop by over the weekend after Felipe-Baby-Mania. :)
now if Bernie could see that....
ah of course :P
Exactly my thoughts. :)
That's what we're worried about!
He's too busy organically having an artifical lawn for a motorhome based on this weekend
Oi! You'd better not say that seeing as you now drive for Team Five Pints of Awesome!
When you get hired by a team to do their PR I want paddock passes please.
:D
C'mon, that can only be a good thing. :) The more people you attract here, the more people will be addicted to your podcasts and other wonderful content. Not to mention the great Sidepodcommunity... :)
You may take my place :)
Me too. I'm not greedy - passes for the Asian rounds alone would make me very 'appy. ;)
Ah but then you get huge bandwidth problems too...
Yea, I think we're had this conversation before. We like things as they are, and we're pushing the limits of how big we can get as it is.
Hopefully, that will get offset by more people deciding to donate more. :)
*waves to BBC people reading*
Never gonna happen.
*waves to other lurkers*
:)
Guys and gals, can we prove Christine wrong? :)
I will donate soon but I am a bit cash-strapped ATM :(
I had the Paypal page open last night, then I remembered what my credit card statement looks like at the moment so I diarised it for next month instead :D
We get some donations from wonderful people, but the culture of the internet at the moment is that things are free. It is hard work trying to get people to pay for things, and I speak as a consumer as much as a podcaster.
agreed. hence why i love what joe's doing with gp+
That is very much true. But I'd like to think that people will give money to worthy causes such as yours. Not everyone will give, for sure, but even if only 10% of those people donated, it would be a world of good to everyone. :)
Can somebody please explain the concept of micro payments?
Unfortunately, I will just have to repeat: never gonna happen.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micropayment
we could do more to encourage it. but you're right, the culture of the web isn't geared that way.
The trick is to sell them something - I gave money to FR because I wanted more teams. I'm more than willing to donate to sidepodcast because you sell me an end to my boredom :D
Cheers!
Afternoon all, hows it goin? Nice to see BMW in an uncharacteristic posistion in FP1. Yay.
We could. But I don't want to spend time bugging people for money. There are much better things to be doing.
In my head, either we charge or we don't.
afternoon RG
How is the leg? And don't look at the drop,io, theres a picture that might break your heart.
they way i speak of them. essentially paying very small amounts to people for very specific things. a song on itunes is a micropayment, because in the shop you buy a more expensive single, but get tracks you may not want.
in sidepodcast terms a micropayment might be used to ensure a higher quality live stream for example. £1 a week could guarantee you zero buffering and a larger picture. i'm not saying that's what we'd do, but it's an example of paying small quantity for a niche item.
also true.
Calf is getting better thanks
I'm sure there is nothing that can do that
*Looks*
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
look at the body language though, he doesnt even like her ;)
Yaaay I can finally go get my phone.... *runs off*
Ooooh yeah. *Evil smile forms
Well, nonetheless, I have just made my first donation to Sidepodcast. :)
The fact that it's payday helps too. ;)
Amy! Tell RG not to look at drop.io is like a reverse psychology trap! :P Hehe.
thank you very, very much journeyer.
glad to be of help. ;) i've been listening to you guys for years now. it's only right that i donate. :)
Mr Mark Webber was speeding in the pitlane today. 6400 Euro fine.
Why waste so much money, Mark? Your 6400 Euros could've gone to a worthier cause... Hehe. :)
That said, at least it happened today. There would've been bigger consequences had it happened during quali or race.
For Mr. C:
http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/05/08/whos-the-f1-heavyweight/
Sure he can come back to F1! But he'd need to join a season of "The Biggest Loser" first. :P
Heaven 17 again. Twice in one day? Madness...
now you're talking. baggy trousers?
A few years ago JA said to me, "You know, if you lost a stone or two you could make a living as a David Beckham impersonator..." Cheeky sod.
Michael Caine. Random.
Hahaha! Never tried it? He might be right... :P
did you respond with a hand gesture?
:D
I know what sort of "hand gesture" I would like to give him!
What the hell! what a bizarre thing to say to someone... sums up JA I suppose
Erm... where'd everyone go?
I'm off for dinner and a movie (Steak and Star Trek) in 10 mins. See you later all!
Oooh... Star Trek. I'll watch it the weekend between Spain and Monaco. :)
Sounds gooooood. See ya!
I'm eating maltesers.
I'm browsing photos from today. Timos girlfriend is dressed differently, but they still look like they don't like each other :D
Link?
http://motorsport.com/photos/f1/2009/spa/f1-2009-spa-xp-0196.jpg
His style of sunglasses is getting better at least.
Still looks like Cyclops. :P
She kinda reminds me of a young Corinna Schumacher.
does that mean she is going to marry Vettel? ;)
Hmmm... You may be on to something there... ;)
"I told you time and time again Timo, the tyre stretagy I suggested to Toyota really should've worked!"
hey all.
Am so happy atm, i've now finished my textiles exam! (yay!) that's one exam down six to go. Time to catch up on some comments...
How is everyone today anyways?
Awesome. :)
Go up a few comments in the Daily thread - Christine was interviewed on BBC Tees earlier.
She did what?
And hi Lou. Good to see the textile exams are finished, mine are just starting
Weren't you here then, RG?
It started with this heads-up.
She was actually on BBC Radio Tees, the guys who played the Felipe song
was very awesome :) Mr C has dropio'd the interview
Anytime before 4 I was at school. Daymn I need to listen
ah awesome! about the song? is it drop.io?
Yup. You and RG must listen. :)
heya, you do textiles? and hows your leg today? any better?
Not textiles exams, just the general ones. Leg is better thanks
oh right. yeah i have my first written exam on monday - ict unit one ( :s ) followed by the worst day of exams ever on friday :(
Mine is spread over two months thankfully, have got my two French ones on Wednesday and from there one a week.
Oooh, French. Parlez-vous Francais and all that...
TWO months?! my gcses were over a month.. luckily i only have 6 written exams to do, but they are all killers :(
Mine start on wednesday and are all packed into 2 weeks, bah.
I still remember my university entrance exams, where they made them so hard a pass was 46%
I found it funny getting less than half right meant you were smart enough for university.
First one 13th of this month and the last the 24th of June. Assuming next year is going to be worse though
What work are you doing now, Amy? :)
I'm not using my degree at all, I'm doing boring office drone work :(
if i may ask, what's your degree, and what's your work?
It could still be arranged.... (got a summer of friends working on various festival RSL stations who are always wanting interesting and 'no one else has got' stuff... plus at least 3 peeps on my facebook (and others off) with UK based FM shows... and others I could pitch things to...
Assuming that you still want a song/piece broadcast that is...
christine’s FR post is now up: {Comment #76}
I managed to miss changing my free-choice teams because I had an unexpected errand :( .
that was brilliant. well done christine! and a mega shout out for the site too :)
I have a bachelor of commerce in economics and business law, and i work for a pay tv company making sure peoples bills line up with what channels are on their tv screen.
I keep saying I need a new job, but I'm not actually actively looking for one so I have no one to blame but myself
lucy smedley emailed the show, to say she likes the song! {Comment #100}
Wow - that is fantastic! Congratulations Christine :D
v.much appreciated, but it was way too long ago. we is podcasters now ;)
you have quite the degree there. i think you'll get a very good response if you test the corporate waters, so to speak.
so you were a rocker before? oooh, sounds interesting. :D
nah, turns out they're not interested unless you did honours :D
twice. i missed the first one, but there was a "coming up next is christine from sidepodcast.com" shoutout.
hoping the replay will be on iplayer.
Wooooo. Awesome Christine
No RG mention, only lovely people, hmm, not paying enough
It usually is. :)
You can tweet Lisa if you're not sure.
Ack Spoilsport.... I like finding stuff and making people play/read it! :-(
Question is, do you think the non-F1 followers on BBC Tees actually had any clue what the hell was going on ;)
:D
oh speaking of shout outs did anyone text ant today?
you could have stolen a quote from THAT woman on youtube 'all you bbc tees fans, go be f1 fans, yeah!'
hehe. i know this formula 1 song that's been kicking about on the web...
if it helps, a friend of ours hasn't given up yet. i'll maybe see if he has any new stuff and mail it to you. it's pop stuff though, we didn't do rock/indie, is that still of interest?
yeah, if they've been playing the youtube clip for weeks they should do.
i did and i believe lukeh did. however, ted answered the question. he said it were ant.
:D
:D
is it really amy's clip they're playing?
I did?
Honestly I've been so out of it today I don't remember hearing it :(
boo. what's the difference?
So Ant didn't know or did Ted just get the question?
don't know. it starts at the right point and ends at the right point though.
Wait, re-read that. nevermind. sums up what I say about being out of it though :P
i imagine it's the bbc audio of it from their race feed
Yep, go for it Pop is just right for a couple of peeps I have in mind... wouldn't mind hearing other (older) stuff though (and yes will keep it under the hat if you'd rather...)
neither. ted was just chatting away and dropped it into the conversation.
yay! thanks you :) so.. what is wurz then? (i'll catch up with fp1 comments in a sec)
you're assuming i still have copies in a format that's readable these days? i think we used iomega jazz drives :(
no promises, but if i can find anything, i'll let you know.
ted didn't say. he just said: "ant, you're the brawn test driver, aren't you?" and ant said "yes".
it was thrilling stuff ;)
jazz drives! those were all the rage... for a year or so. the chunky 8-tracks of digital storage. they stored 100MB, right?
I'd have to bend andy's ear (and have him bend a couple more, lol) when he emerges from thepub this evening... but you'd be surprised (or not?) what lurks in lofts, cellars and NHS data centres accross the land.....
zip was 100mb. must've been a 1gb?
oh. right.
sounds it ;)
it's going to annoy me now though. Wurz is still involved with the team i've seen several articles where they have sad 'Brawn GPs Alex Wurz...'
hmm.
but test driver is different from 3rd driver.
or maybe wurz is a DC-like consultant?
All I can work out is that he is a 'team advisor', whatever that means. Schumacher had the same tag put on him did he not? Noone understood what that role meant either...
wikipedia says 1GB, which eventually became 2GB for a while before it lost out to CD-Rs and USB drives.
By the way, "Felipe Baby" has had 199 plays on last.fm so far.
not bad, not bad at all. especially when you remember that most of the hits/plays are on drop.io. :)
just saw the picture that mr c posted up earlier
noooo!
Oopsy
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/hes-back-jpg
Anyway, off to bed for me. See y'all tomorrow for FP3 (maybe) and Quali (for sure). ;)
see ya later mate
i've not seen anything of Wurz all season so far, not in a photo or anything, it's really unusual. but they have two very experienced drivers, what is Wurz going to advise them on that Rubens and Jenson can't?.... i mean i like that he is still around, but it seems a little strange to me.
He's like the ghost that won't go away. Oh well, at least he doesn't call the shots now.
How can some people look so much like a carboard cutout?
Good point there, Lou. And you can't get any more experienced than Rubens. :) Perhaps he covers whatever blind spots the drivers have in terms of feedback?
Maybe he advises the team on how to celebrate on the podium, going back to his awesome Montreal podium celebration a few years back :P
Although Rubens has his epic dance and Jenson always looks natural with podium celebrating
Unfortunately, I will just have to repeat: never gonna happen. {Comment #195}
Script Frenzy's managed to raise $23,484 in five weeks, through a combination of donations and merchandise. The trick is to find ways of encouraging the donation.
One possibility is to put up a donation meter. Next to each step, you could put what you'll do if you get the money. The Script Frenzy one, for example, starts with such simple, but high-priority things as "Servers will be able to handle robust traffic" and end with such pie-in-the-sky stuff as "online videos" and "live events".
You'd probably need to start with fairly modest amounts, but giving something to aim for could attract people into donating and/or buying merchandise.
A lot of the freebie internet culture is because its structure does not lend itself towards its users seeing the costs of what they access. More awareness of costs would help counteract the problem and may even help you sort out your own costs.
Am so happy atm, i’ve now finished my textiles exam! (yay!) that’s one exam down six to go. Time to catch up on some comments… {Comment #236}
That's good :) Good luck with the other six exams.
thank you :)
Mine is spread over two months thankfully, have got my two French ones on Wednesday and from there one a week. {Comment #248}
Good luck, RG!
Mine start on wednesday and are all packed into 2 weeks, bah. {Comment #251}
Good luck, lukeh.
Thanks Alia
thanks :D
I found it funny getting less than half right meant you were smart enough for university. {Comment #252}
It was even worse when I got in. The pass mark for modules at my university was, for the most part, 40%. The only proviso was that every markable item had to be 40% or more - an average of 40% was insufficient in itself (unless you were very persuasive in the appeals system).
found him in Bahrain and Malaysia
still no clues what he is though.
I hope someone got him a hotel room because man he looks rough in the bahrain photo...
definitely not looking ready-to-jump-in-the-car-at-any-second a la Romain.
ooo thanks Amy. no brawn shirt though?.. and the mystery continues..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaz_drive this?
I think that there is indeed one in a box here, certainly an iomega 'something' (unless it went the last time that himself had a chuck out - although with computer things this seems to happen a lot less than other stuff.... b.e.g.)
Failing that, apparently there are several all over theplace in the lofts of HP employees past and present (oh, the geeks are the horders of the earth :-D )
Question is though - do F1 engineers keep bits of outofdate work kit safely in their lofts/sheds/garages as well?
depends when the photo was taken, if it was before friday they don't generally wear team gear
good point.
i'm full of them....also full of alot of other stuff :D
Talking about Brawn they just sent out an email newsletter about the team including a picture of Rubens, Jenson, Ross and... Nick... standing in front of a terminator advert, and Rubens looks very awkward next to Nick :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/brawninator-jpg
Lucky they haven't gone to DC lengths at Monaco by dressing up similar to the film
*imagines a terminator helmet or dressing up as the terminator...*
very quick question, are Duracell now sponsoring Brawn (remember i'm still catching up with the news here :P)
I haven't seen it mentioned... what makes you wonder?
i shall drop.io, on second.
Not as far as I can see from a quick search...
Duracell kers?
ok... tell me i'm not imagining there is a battery on rubens' cap
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/duracell-jpg
:s
When Williams were sponsored by Sega, they had Sonic the hedgehog's legs by the cockpit, perhaps if duracell are sponsoring a duracell bunny or battery by the KERS battery? :D
Unles we're all going mad, that's definitely Duracell we all know of!
I think the "Duracell" logo gives off the Duracell sponsorship :D
They've kept that very quiet...
Oh - could it be that the 'deal' is with Rubens rather than with Brawn? Its quite common for people to have specific contracts (although less so in F1 I think, more common in other sports) especially for certain parts of the world over others.
I can't say I've ever seen Rubens respectively sponsored by Duracell but I'll definitely double check
But like... it's not on the brawn site or anything, where as the other deals have been confirmed on there.
they may do a proper announcement and then put it on then
Yeah that is very strange. :S
Even more so for it to be properly made into the hat too, so not a rush job deal or anything...
That's not a bad idea at all. Kinda like Blue Peter.
could be.. he has sponsor logos from a magazine on his helmet i believe.
Ah good thinking, he had that one you showed me in Australia with the red logo. But Duracell really is a worldwide brand name rather than what he had there, you'd imagine they'd be part of a major deal. Hmm.
Investigation a-go-go!
Where did this come from? A Mercedes Benz - Brawn GP video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t07mxEA6dGU
Can you blame them for cashing in on Brawn's incredible success?
I've just taken the plunge and am on twitter, http://twitter.com/jonwaldock if you wanna add me ;)
Nope, certainly not, especially if it provides videos like that. I enjoyed it :)
Wooo, welcome to the good side
Can't find anything about Rubens/Brawn/Duracell. Can anyone keep an eye out tomorrow with Brawn to see if they do have any livery related Duracell stuff, and with jenson too?
I'm sure lou or others will be anyways :D but I'll be working so I won't be able to see, and this has actually got me really intruiged...
i'll be keeping an eye out until i get confirmation about what is going on.... much like the Jules thing i will get annoyed about it if i don't find out. not that i like stalk this team or anything......
Well you solved the Jules stuff with great success, that's all I'm saying. ;)
Evening all, I trust FP was rivetting for you all. :P
Why don't you twitter them?
Brawn still haven't updated their twitter :( although being questioned about duracell for a first update would be grand!
they updated it the other day when they launched the new look of the site.
I didn't get the update. :(
*kicks tweetdeck*
evening scott
Wow, there are actually loads of updates from BrawnGP.... I'm gonna be quiet now and point at Tweetdeck.
are you following the right one?
the official one is http://twitter.com/OfficialBrawnGP
for a formula 1 team, i find it a bit stupid that i have to send a request to follow them
oh... maybe not then. Thanks for that, much appreciated :)
ok doohickey is doing strange things... why isn't it letting me comment anymore? i can't actually click post or any of the buttons at the bottom of the comment box. what did i do?
Did you accidentally chance the active thread at the top?
maybe they'll change that soon? not sure why they've done it tbh.
I imagine Toyota's twitter has a load of mechanics standing in front of the updates :D
Evening all.
Congrats Christine :) awsome!!!!
Just to correct something earlier, which I think proves that I genuinely don't forget anything...
Christine you have been on the radio before. You were interviewed by the BBC and explained podcasting. And then was really embarressed when they played a clip of your first podcast.
Don't worry it's not just you guys I remember things for. I rarely forget anything except names.
:D
no. i don't mean it wont let me click reply, i mean it wont let me click post.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/help-jpg
see... it's really strange. unless i'm having a very dim moment...
Ah yes. That was slightly different though, as it wasn't really an interview and it also wasn't live.
Well remembered though!
*waves arms like mad hoping to catch mr c's attention*
lol it's no problem, i like lclt now it works for me :D i was just wondering why it happened tis all.
Sue Barker just called Will Power "the Australian NASCAR driver" on QoS. That's WRONG!
I imagine this was quite a bit more nervewracking so well done :)
I have seen the problem in question, but I'm not sure if Mr C is aware of it or not.
He's not at his computer right now (unbelievable, no?) but should be back shortly.
Argh forgot about QoS again! :(
I has that the day the newhickey went live. I closed it and re-opened and haven't had any problems since
cool thanks :)
hmm... have restarted browser and it's still the same...i need to restart my computer in a mo anyways so i'll see if it works ok then.
Apparently Mr C is aware of the problem and he is trying to narrow down when it happens. A hard refresh will solve it.
all is working now. thanks :) i wasn't aware it had happened before so thought i'd let you know :)
hard refresh = apple+r on a mac.
if anyone can figure when it happens, i'd appreciate it ;)
erm, not that it helpes but it kinda just suddenly happened, very strange.
i meant 'helps' obviously...
same here, tis annoying. did a hard refresh fix it for you?
it probably would have done, but i had to restart the laptop anyways so i missed chrisine's comment but when i opened the browser again it was fine.
Where have you been for the last 6 months. Have you never played I spy from the International Space Station?
What? Go Christine
Is it live now? Because I can't play it on iPlayer.
Sorry, just realised what a stupid question that was....
nope. but it's here.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/christine-talks-f1-with-lisa-mp3
:D
Thanks you! :d
:D !
When it happened with me it was when i changed threads twice in quick succession
Wow, awe-some! :D
*sigh of relief*
:D :D
The Duracell deal looks like it is Rubens' personal sponsor rather than a team deal. I assume the fact that Brawn are paying him less than he was getting last year is offset by allowing him personal sponsors. He had a magazine sponsor a race or two ago.
he still has the magazine sponsor doesn't he?
he does, I saw it during Fp1
peek-a-boo
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/128097
"But I don't wanna come out and play"
It;s Halloween already?? *mumbles*
I. WANT. THAT. BRAWN. CAP! :D !
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/128089
looking for the lawnmower man?
you want a big battery logo on a cap? why?
i saw that earlier and assumed it was someone just letting him out in the morning.. like a bernie keeper?... lol
:D
Or the brawnmower
would that make his motorhome the
honeymoneypot?haha!
aha, you got there before me
OK, maybe not that exact cap. but replace it with the Brawn logo and it's perfect :D
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21461.html
USGPE has hired a star NASCAR designer. Who knew NASCAR had designers?
oooh...
"Thanks to @mrschristine from @sidepodcast for a fab chat this afternoon, hopefully we'll be hearing more of her on BBC Tees! Thanks guys!"
*faints and then explodes*
I thought NASCAR was a one make series? How can they have designers?!!?!
:D :D
SPC is going from strength to strength in 2009! :D
oo awesome! i can just see it now. Christine Blachford BBC Tees' official f1 guru.. :D
oh wow...
I wont suggest fainting, but exploding is new.
Congrats chaps.
So they have Rob on and they want Christine on more. What are the odds of them being on together? If they are what are the odds on Christine being able to speak to him?
"So Christine, how do you rate Felipe Baby's chances this weekend?..."
I doubt it, Christine may have fainted by that stage.
I think just being in the same building as Rob will make her faint and explode just as Mr C has just done. :D
i don't know about her, but i would.
What odds can I get on Franck being the next Ferrari driver after Radio Tees F1 guru expounds her wisdom
Or exploded!
Wait, so Christine's the one who likes him more, yet it would be you that goes all funny if you met him in person? :D
Of course, who doesn't go all funny when they meet a legend
hey, at least i could go up and speak to franck :)
Jackie's dancing cockatoo is on Have I Got News For You
*is confused* something tells me i've missed more than i thought i had this week... Jackie has a Cockatoo?
...You've got me there.
i think i'd pass out if i met any one well know in the f1 world tbh.
your more confused as to the fact that she may have a cockatoo instead of the fact that its dancing!?
Beats me
:D
You've met Christine haven't you ;)
i'm confused by the whole situation tbh. why does it dance and why is it on the tv?
She posted a youtube link of a dancing cockatoo that disco dances. Apparently someone at Harvard got a Ph D for proving cockatoos have a sense of rhythm where most higher mammals like cats don't
:D
yes, but... *stops talking and just continues digging hole*
i have met her but was way too nervous to speak to her
is that the one you started yesterday re: franck coming second?
yep lol. i figure i'll be in Australia some time around monday at this rate... i wonder if i can go and stay with Amy... :P
You should be able to turn left some time Saturday and come up in the Barcelona paddock in time for quali then
ok, anything we should be talking to joe about this evening?
it'll probably be a late one, but any questions, thoughts etc please yell.
Has he heard Felipe Baby, and if so what does he think of it? :D
Timo Glock... ;)
Really, Toyota almost could of won in Bahrain, was that there best chance and if they don't win this season, could they pull out of F1?
:D i'll try my best lol.
He had coffee with Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson this morning so you might fet some info on USGPE
get not fet. Must put a light on
But on a serious note, does he think Mike Gascoygne has unfinished business in F1 and if he were to come back, which team does he think would suit his style of work best?
any other specific info you're after on that front? am gonna read the post in a mo.
cool, and also noted r.g's question.
also noting who's asking this week!
Aha, awesome. :D
They have announced a designer but I am curious about progress on plant, staff, sponsorship etc. What do they think of the budget cap figure? Does it fit with their budget or does it give them scope to do more?
erm.. you could ask him about Wurz?... not sure if he is likely to know much more about it though.
Oh and seeing as I have F1 Racing on my mind, I noticed that in the YATQ interview, Nico Rosberg supports the idea of taking away the aerodynamics and make it more "less aero, big power".
sure.
Does he think there is any coincedence with veterans of the sport ie. button, barrichello etc doing so well in these new cars and regulations whereas some of the younger guys are still struggling, or is it just car performance from the people like brawn and toyota being more of a factor...
I just say this because just seems so far that the guys with more experience seemed to be racking in points but people like bourdais, piquet, and other relative newcomers to the sports may perhaps be struggling with the cars in race conditions and whatnot.
good call.
It would be worth asking him his views on new teams coming in. How many are real bids and who he thinks are most likely to eventually make it to F1.
ahh yes. ties in nicely gpe.
Does he think we'll see any teams make a big step forward with their aero updates, and if so, which team is likely to make the biggest improvement?
Are FOTA behind Ferrari on the 40M budget cap or are they in favour of it
What would be a suitable alternative to those who haven't made F1 and missed out on GP2/F2/WSR drives, and how does he think the likes of Bruno Senna will fair getting back up to speed in an F1 car after driving at Le Mans?
Are the teams agreed that Brawn GP will get Honda's money or will it go to Bernie
jackie's and dom's noted. anymore on fota, cause that might be an interesting subject?
It's like Question Time tonight :D
Does he think £40m is a suitable figure for the budget cap and if not, what would he have set it at if it were up to him?
Not sure if I asked something similar the last time you spoke to him.
might be a tough one to swing in, but f2 might tie in with gpe questions too.
any thoughts on gp+, improvements, feedback etc?
can you ask what the paddock think of F2
gotya.
No problem. I'm not expecting all my questions to be read out, I'm just throwing them in there as suggestions :)
Has Joe discussed Donington before. It may be worth getting his view on what he thinks will happen with Donington and what will happen when it fails?
sort of remember that coming up, but things have moved on again.
Is Bernie just bluffing with all this talk that Silverstone won't get the British GP back? Does he know something we don't?
Mind you, he probably knows a lot of things we don't...
hehe.
I'm still singing A Little Respect to myself courtesy of BBC tees :D
Some more technical content. Perhaps a feature in each issue on a key player in F1 for example,Charlie Whiting. What exactly does he do over a race weekend. I'd lalso ove to hear an insight into a stewards meeting.
cool!
Does he think Kubica will announce intentions to seek alternative employment should BMW's upgrades fail to imprvove his chances of good results?
good, ta.
Like I said, I'm just throwing them in there. Pick whichever ones you want :)
Do BMW have a hope in hell of winning or will they have to wait until a wet monsoon esque race later in the season?
i can answer that right now ;)
but we shall enquire, nonetheless.
Would he be interested in having a guest post competition in GP+ for some budding bloggers and does he have any advice for Scott and others who hope to become motorsports journalists
Now that is an excellent suggestion!
RG is being optimistic.
Do Force India have it in them to score points this season?
ooh. nice one. brilliant in fact.
did i miss what: / mark webber means btw?
I was going to ask about that too.
I assume because of his 'broken leg' ;)
My horrendous bad luck this week, represents Mark Webber I think
Ah yeah, I get it now :D
ahhh, I was halfway there :P
ahhhhhh.
How long does he think it will be before Ferrari issue an ultimatum to Kimi to contribute to the team more and step it up or face losing his drive?
Which of the 2 drivers have secured a world championship?
True, but which one looks more interested in driving?
is that a question for joe, cause he'll ace that one ;)
Which one has scored more points this season as well?
Given the amount of love that has appear for Massa recently, I'm surprised that most people can remember.
Corrected. ;)
he's a fast driver in a fast car.
he doesn't appear to be a very good team player though.
I still have heaps more respect for Kimi's driving ability than Massa's
If you need a babysitter on call for every corner then the raw talent (of a champion) just isn't there, the performance is just eked out, conversation by conversation
Not to condone Kimi's lackadaisical attitude, just my two penneth worth
He's exactly the same as he was at McLaren. Which is why I like him even though he's gone to Ferrari
Yeah, me too
Thought Ferrari would try to turn him into a team player but it's still the same ol' Kimi
Kimi was let down by McLaren..........he is now being let down by Ferrari...nuff said...the guy can drive regardless.......
BTW
Star Trek + IMAX = the proverbial Five Pints
kimi's attitude and approach have been consistent at Sauber, McLaren and Ferrari...the Teams knew what they were signing imo.......a fast driver !
understand and agree with all of the above. however, right now ferrari have no use for a quick driver with communication issues.
Now if only he was interested enough to develop a fast car over the season's length, he'd be deadly
oops. wrong thread. my bad, lemmie fix.
FI going to intro KERS at the Nurburgring?
http://c.moreover.com/click/here.pl?z1968097379&z=950244209
That's gonna cause some thinking for the non-refreshing Doohickers ;)
Evening all, just got back.
Agreed. Star Trek was Spocking Awesome!
yep. also highlights an issue with doohickey during race weekends. because it needs to default to a live thread for ease of commenting. but how the heck do you re-default it to daily once a session is through?
Can't argue with that but I'd agree with Gavin that the Scuderia is going a bit Tower of Pisa these days
This may seem like a silly question but does it have to become a separate thread? Is a sub-thread of the Daily an option?
The problem Raikkonen has is the car just doesn't suit him.
They seem to have been favoring Massa since..well late 2007. The car has been developed away from the style that Schumacher and Raikkonen like them and towards Massa
From oversteer to understeer.
eh?
Recalling our pub conversation? There's too many Italians in that team, and Italians are the world champions of in-fighting and backstabbing.
And before you get annoyed at that, I said that to Bass after spending a week with the Italian part of my family, so I should know ;)
but it never does?
AM - build the car according to spec.
Lunchtime - Nice meal and a couple of bottles of wine
PM - Whats this bit?
For arguing, silly!
Early 2007 did - then they started developing it away from him.
McLaren liked developing cars like that. This years is a little too twitchy though. ;)
I do think that Hamilton and Raikkonen would be great in the same team.
Yeah, kinda
Feels like that anyway
[You wanna refuel it now, during lunch?]
For the Doohickey's sake
This one takes up for more space than I can explain clearly now, will bring it up another time
didn't schumi make that one?
heheheh. good plan. or email if it's easier.
I would love to see them in the same team in a car that suited them
If I can make a coherent explanantion than I probably will. over the weekend
My ideas usually have to bounce off someone who actually knows what they're coding about before some semblance of sense takes hold :D
mid-week phone call?
Late shift for me next week, we can bounce ideas around on the night shift
I'm just trying to get Chablis posting on the daily with the LCLT .. brb
I tried that! ;)
May be possible in a world post-Ron
yes but I am speaking to her on PF trying to explain
wow. jackie has the power ;)
Indy practise on http://indycar.neulion.com/indy/console.jsp
"I'm here.... I think...."
Not quite :)
5 fastest times of the day
Ryan Briscoe
Helio Castroneves
Dario Franchitti
Scott Dixon - Kiwi
Danica Patrick
They may as well save their engines coz Scott Dixon's going to blow them away!
So is your plan to spend the rest of the month telling us how he is going to win?
Hmm my explanation obviously isn't working
annoyingly, in one hours time doohickey will sort itself because a new daily thread will default to being the active topic.
Just when I think I've got my head around the difference between Practise & Practice, I lose it again :D
[It's not just a transatlantic thing]
He's obviously never heard of the commentors curse
chablis, can you see the reply button? if you reply to this comment and type, you'll automatically jump on to the daily thread.
Thanks Lukeh. Does anyone have any info on the narrator? I always wonder if he is speaking English as his second language...
Yes. Just like you keep reminding us Di Resta should be in F1 ;)
he does the allianz track guides too. christine usually replaces him :)
Only when I am asked the question
But he should be though.
Hmm yeah I thought he was that guy.
Night all...!
Will this help at all?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Live+Commenting+Solutions
I have no idea which thread to post it on, mind you :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDvr6La5tVk
Should there be a separate thread for this conversation? :D
G'night Gavin
I have done a screen shot to help her find her way .. fingers crossed
oh my word...am I really here ?
This one sounds like he's reading from a bad translation
Mercedes script perhaps?
Yaaaaay!!
way hey. how's tricks chablis?
Yay w00t :D
Welcome to the daily thread
You made it
At which point do we admit that it's lifespan is now very short? ;)
hehe. we can leave this one up awhile longer. christine's not done f1 digest yet.
Shh
You are such a grass.
Busted! ;)
anyone fancy a quick trip to PF chat to convince chablis that the doohickry is easy when you know how
So, Chablis:
"Heikki and Piquet"
Really?
with pleasure. mind you i guess it's not as easy as pf chat :)
Will try, I'd be a noob ;)
Interesting insight into the Brawn BGP001's weight distribution
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOE3s22szJU
Sigh @ registering
you really are a noob. never been quizzed?
Thank you honey :D
I don't enter comps that I will fail abysmally at ;)
Have you seen my scores .. I was joint last this week
ahh, i can see my presence was missed. not this wednesday jackie, i shall resume my natural position.
cheers guys n gals x
Yay
Did I tell you not this Wednesday but the last one, I really felt you coulda beat me.
Night chablis. Myself have sorted internet problems, hate the stupid internet.
no probs ;)
You off RG goodnight then
damnit!
btw... here's alex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_Vj2XfKL-A
No, just moaning about the internet
@ BC....................and what would be wrong with Heikki and Piquet as a Team ?
I'm better at watching, shouting at & b*tching about F1 than remembering whose Gurney Flap was named after whose Chief Engineer's cat
One's always been a number 2 and the other just is a massive number 2. ;)
I like Hekki, he just needs to settle down
Piquet, I don't have too many kind words for
(We're talking about Jr yeah?)
That's excellent .. but Nakajima LOL
Well said
Some people have way too much time on their hands.
but they nicked my idea for my fantasy racers line up
Ooh err, we have a very high opinion of him then
how does he ever get any work done?
:D
But he's being paid for it, so he has too much time on someone elses hands
he's a genius!
Ahem, do you really think you should be saying that! ;)
i work. just very odd hours.
Hey, that's my line
[Remember, we have photographic proof and a website too :) ]
How odd are we talking, if you don't mind me asking :P
What time do you get up to go to work?
What's the latest you return home after work?
:D love it!
Myself:
Ealies: Leave home at 05:15
Lates: Return at 23:20 (at best)
For me at the moment, it's around six.
Maybe quarter past - half 7.
I think I'm qulaified to work in Alex's office, based on the evidence
very odd. although i can work remotely. so it can be between commenting or sitting on a runway watching mclaren.
Me too
:D
Saying that, there aren't many people who have had snowball fights at their point of work, if you exclude car parks!
Ah, those we're the days [allegedly]
I've always had snowball fights at work (even the year there was snow when I worked in someone elses office.....)
rofl
:D
we're not sure where joe is right now, but it sounds like he's been captured by the mysterons. if gp+ is delayed this week blame captain black.
Sounds familiar. ;)
I occasionally go into the office. When forced. I'm very happy working at home.
i kinda prefer the office. t'otherwise i only ever speak to one other human being. and you know the kind of sense i get from her.
Roary the Racing Car
Captain Scarlett
The Flumps
Whats happened to all the grown ups? Errr...scratch that - older people? *grown up... yeah - unlikely ;)*
Is it just me, or is Twitter down? I can't access it.
Good morning, by the way. :)
you mean chatting on skype to us lot doesn't count as talking to a human being? :P
:D
Is the sofa comfortable?
aren't they doing maintenance work or something?
Mrs C in bed and safely asleep then?
Anyway - you talk to the commenters.....
nope. right here doing digest!
eh?
Really? I don't see any message...
i swear i saw a little notice on twitter earlier.... maybe not... never mind.
Flibster, you call that work?
And just as you say it, it works again... Odd.
You weren't the only one.
I'm much happier at home.
Big TV, big sofa, my film collection and espresso.
Don't have 3 of the 4 in the office. Much of my job is just setting things going and 'watching them complete'
Watching the Brawn-Mercedes vid now... Whoever thought we'd see Brawn and Haug working side by side? Not me, that's for sure.
So you now have a sore arm, yes?
(I know I would if I said something like that... )
It's very hard work. Very tough indeed.
;) :D
Twitter down for maintenance
And Rubens made a bit of a naughty statement indirectly criticizing Honda... :D
It was... but it seems to be working now?
Oh that cheeky lovable scamp!
:D
Lukeh, to answer your YouTube query, it came from the Inside Track series which Williams are famous for... Same VO, that's for sure.
Seems flakey to me.
Now that you've mentioned it, yes, it's flakey. Some pages work, others don't.
Question for Joe if you find him - it came to me after looking at some photos from today.
Which is the ugliest design *not colourscheme - Renault wins that one* of the current F1 cars?
I still can't look at the BMW without thinking that it's a car that only it's designers could love...
The page that has failed to load for me has a URL ending with 'maintenance.html"
From JA's latest entry:
Oooooh.
I'm rather surprised with this, actually, especially USGPE, who have zero experience of building a car. Lola have done this before, they just need to better their 1997 debut, which shouldn't be hard.
Whose most likely for the last slot then?
Dave Richards/Prodrive/Aston Martin/Gulf for me. Although the deal with McLaren may not work as Force India may not be happy.
Being only 10 seconds of the pace would be better. ;)
I'd agree with you there, Flibster. Maybe not with McLaren, but how about... BMW?
:D
Completely off topic - but this is great. :D
Shoot The Banker
2 shots from a paintball gun in 10 seconds - quite a wait though. :( The noises he makes when he gets shot is worth it. ;)
Other half works for a bank *in compliance - making sure bankers don't do anything wrong* so she's waiting in line to shoot at the moment. :D
I saw the Eric Warren recruitment by USGPE. I wonder how NASCAR will feel about some of their big players moving to F1? They've been used to talent coming their way, so will they say anything about talent moving away?
Oh yes - forgot to add - the gun aims low and left - aim just over his right shoulder ;)
I get control in 31 minutes
Remember - aim high and right. ;)
I don't want to wait 35 minutes though. Bah.
They have very quick minutes. There are 105 people in front of me
Damn... missed the phone number :(
There is a contact link on the page
Thats for email. :(
I wonder how drunk they were when they decided they were going to do this
Probably very drunk - and I thank them for it! :D
If you go to the highlights - one of the guys got hit in the face... Ouch...
I have noticed this guy bending quite low over the desk and I thought he could be shot in the head.
Right in the gut... :D
Other than Steven Roy and Flibster (who are doing their shootaround), anyone else here?
Hello. ;)
Hey RG. BTW, anyone know if Joe's Show is going up tonight? :D
I clicked, waited for a short while, then closed
Now I'm back :D
*waves*
Lurkeh.
I think they were still wating to see if it was a 'GO'
Good shot. Right on the funny bone! :D
LOL!
Still here too.
Oh. Well, given how it's all quiet right now, I'm guessing they're talking to him as we speak. :)
There ya go! People coming out of the woodwork. ;)
I got control of the gun even though it said there were 39 people in front of me and the damn thing froze so I never got a shot off
Jackie and I are on PF
Ooooh, a bug.
Anything interesting being discussed?
me too.. and kinda sorting out some other things too and just about to head off to bed i think. it's been a tiring and long day and i want to be able to get some sleep and stuff so i feel better for fp3 tomorrow :) night all x
night, lou. :)
Not talking to the rest of us
Just shooting the breeze
Night Lou
hi all. the conversation with joe finally happened after much technical problems on the side of the spanish.
many questions from the comments were duly put to joe and also jackie's suggestion for an e-reporter style competition for junior f1 journalists was very well received.
more on that shortly, but we're quite excited ;)
Am thinking of how I can make Doohickey type suggestions/improvements but thinking it's not really the place ;)
At least you fared better here than in China.
Oooh, sounds interesting. :)
probably not the time! christine and i are probably both pulling all-nighters to get all this stuff out. from monday though, please go ahead.
junior as in age category?
at least they're out there already. no need to work on it right away. :)
probably more in terms of experience than age.
I was referring to PF and the 'chat room' there but :D
I'll see you guys tomorrow evening. Enjoy qualifying and fp3 :) another long day of frozen food fun awaits after sleep. Night all.
Night lukeh
i think it's 2am in spain now. joe deserves a medal for the effort he puts to these shows.
as does christine who's now going to edit it for ya. don't rush us though, we're all working as hard as is humanly possible. and then a bit harder than that.
Good night, lukeh. :)
oooh. in that case go ahead ;)
he REALLY likes doing them! quite amazing. :D i think he's used to all-nighters. :D
Night Lukeh
Cos we had that convo earier silly!
Well I'm NOT.
i have no recollection... who are you again?
2am is easier than 5am but the dedication is most welcome either way
We'll always wait for SPC, it's always worth it
[and how sidepodtime was discovered]
no rush, christine. i was talking about joe. :)
i'm not a morning person, but christine is. one way or another we'll have to meet in the middle :)
i shall live comment the rising of the sun.
i used to be a morning person. sidepodcast changed all that. ;)
erm... not sure what you can live comment about a sunrise? :)
i blame steven.
watch me ;)
I used to like sleep. Sidepodcast changed that.
don't you still like sleep? :)
Are you kidding, sunrises are amazing
Though a little predictable
i think she's trying to tell us something?
It's all Amy's fault
hehehe. :D
all right, if you say so. :P
LO again
RG is tired so going to bed, night all.
How's that Amy's fault? ;)
Who doesn't?
see ya rg.
Sleep - that's my third favourite thing. (Cat from Red Dwarf)
jackie, you're a flippin' genius. that is all.
as we've said, no rush. if she needs to sleep tonight, let her sleep. it can wait until the morn.
Night RG, sleep well. How's the calf btw?
??
Joe liked the suggestion?
calf is getting better
Because she is on here 24 hours a day confusing people about what time zone they are in
you'll have to listen to the show. but... yes.
Oh, yeah! Yep, he loved it, from the looks of it. :)
:D Heheh. To be fair, she's not here right now... ;)
Cool :D
That is why everyone is confused about what time of day it is
Amy doesn't have a time zone, she's just meditating when Heikki's not thinking about a racing line
Amy is Borg :D
It's all relative (tis but a countdown till the next timed session)
Resistance is Finnish!
hahahahaha brilliant
:D
Is Huuuuuuuuuulkenberg Finnish?
new daily post is up, but i'm kinda scared to mention it...
German, no?
No he is German
Ah, we we're just getting the newbs comfortable
Oh Bassano and I have been trying to encourage strekys over .. told him to look for the 8th oops
me here i think :)
bugger! my bad.
I'm a have to reboot the warp drive now!
streky, hi!
why are you encouraging people away from your site btw?
It's a 2-way stream no?
lol thats a very good question
Hiya
Good point
Especially after I was co-erced onto PF chats for the 1st time tonight
that is a very good point.
it'll make quizzing easier.
okay if I'm not wanted I'll just toddle along back to mine :(
you always wanted you know that :P
You enjoyed the experience?
noooo. i told you that you're a genius. i don't compliment people like that more than 12 times a day, so consider yourself very honoured ;)
Of course, much more intimate and 1-2-1
Retro but good chats
You see that drop down box where you chose daily 8th May .. can you change it to daily 9th May :D
