I am taking back the reigns of the Daily post, thanks to Mr C for covering. We're both still under the weather, if we're honest, but we're soldiering on because there's some good racing around the corner, I just know it. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about:
- It took them all day, but we finally found out what FOTA thought about the budget caps idea. They want to "talk about it." Now, I don't need to tell you that "we have to talk" is generally not a precursor to good news, but they haven't come out all guns blazing as I thought they might.
- Simon Gillett has been given to the end of June to sort out his paperwork for the British Grand Prix. It's the extension he was after, but you have to wonder why the documentation hasn't already been sorted, when DVLL has had the contract in place for about nine months.
- With news flying about with teams bringing new parts, and dropping existing technologies, James Allen wrote a good post a couple of days ago detailing each team's plans for the Spanish Grand Prix. Things may change before the action gets going, but it's definitely a good place to start.
That'll do it for now. Don't forget to check out the F1 Big Picture for the past few days, if you haven't already, as we've looked back into the history of the Spanish GP, and at what happened last year as well.
I guess the teams have little choice but to talk about the budget caps. Max does whatever he wants anyway. Not that I think budget caps will be a bad idea, but I'm sure the FIA will find some way to not make it work...
Oh, and only vaguely F1-related (listen to background :-P):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHr24_OzmfY&feature=related
Awwwwww, how cuuuuuute!
sooo cute
Alas, poor Alex! I knew him, Horatio...
Still sticking with a matter of 'when' rather than 'if' concerning Gillett and the Donington saga. Absolutely want to see Britain on the calender for F1 but it does need to go back to Silverstone, I just can't see Donington being ready for 2010 by a long shot, and with silverstone now developing it's pit paddock (to my knowledge at least) as well as modernising for it's Moto GP ideas then surely Bernie knows in the back of his mind it'll all lead back to Silverstone. Then again it's Bernie, the same man who seemed to think that the Hamilton incident with Spanish fans last year was a banter-esque joke.
It'll be a tragedy for british F1 heritage if we lose it though because of this silly tiff. at a time where formula 1 is being prublicised to it's fullest and really being embraced into the arms of viewers and sport lovers around the UK, we're running the risk of losing our own representation and hosting of the sport when it should be time of celebration where the World Champion is british and the current contender going for the championship is also british.
Sidepodspace update: Launch of the Hubble servicing mission STS-125 is scheduled for this Monday, 11th May at 14:01EDT (that's 19:01 BST)
Everyone ready for some i-spy?
ooooh yes :)
crazily cute! james allen put him to bed... :D
Watching the BBC classic races I realise that I miss the sight of sparks/flames coming from the back of the cars.
i did for bit, then i thought there was too much of it.
I think it's great, the sparks. But yeah, we shouldn't see them too often. Loved seeing it in Singapore - contributes to the place's aura. I'm now hoping the track resurfacing won't remove those sparks...
agreed on all counts.
not meaning to jinx it in any way as I agree but did organisers not say they were aiming to smoothen out the bumps for 2009? :(
Can't remember the last time a launch schedule was brought forward. Hopefully this one will go on time. There is a second shuttle also on the pad for the next ISS mission.
I was just being nostalgic.
have you got to the bit where mansell passes senna? just a sea of sparks down the main straight.
That's the exact bit! It was probably due to the extra weight he was carrying ;)
Time for sleep. Night all. :)
That's true, and it should improve grip for most of the corners, but they better stay away from the back straight!
i wish i could see the classic races. Time to move to the uk. Then the bbc also wouldnt be able to keep heikki video from me :)
Classic races are also shown on JTV. Try the channels of mc_kik_ and the_f1_society.
ahh yes, i have watched quite a lot on jtv. My 10gb download limit doesnt like me very much.
you have a 10GB DL limit? that's a shame. but then again, most races on JTV aren't in HD anyway, so they shouldn't be taking THAT much bandwidth, right?
its 10gb shared between 6 people which is the problem. We get 140gb off peak which is 1am-6am. Im normally up then anyway ;) i have a 5gb 3g plan that i use once we go over the 10gb but i normally run out of that as well. I miss my old unlimited plan i had in nz.
Given what Max and his family are going through, I was pretty sure they wouldn't release anything too aggressive or too opposed to Max's policies. Max also cancelled his Friday presscon in Barcelona, so I'd call it even. Expect discussions on this to properly resume in the buildup to Monaco.
So that's 1.67GB for peak hours? That is miniscule - that's only worth 1 torrent - or even less!
We have a rather slower connection here (0.75GB DL speed), but it's unlimited. I'd rather have the slower option, because a fast yet limited connection would probably mean you'd run out of bandwidth pretty darn quick - and you won't be able to make full use of it too.
As requested by Gavin:
Fernando Alonso's career in video
Cheers!
Hiya how are you guys ?
I want to ask something , there was a F1 engineer who was killed In 1693? for refusing to join another rival team . could you tell me his name please? I have tried google but No answer :(
I like the concept of giving more of a chance for independent teams to compete and win, however not at the expense of the sport, what formula 1 is about technology and the peak of motor sport, with these budget cuts, I worry that other racing class will out preform formula 1 cars simply because the budget start to become so close to each other, the development path is bound to integrate.
1693? That's a bit before my time. I know Bernie and Max are getting on a bit but I don't think they had F1 back then...
Gavin! Tsk tsk. He meant 1963. :P
First thought that entered my head was the first ATS project, the ill-fated Ferrari mutiny which was led by Count Chiti. I'll Google and see what I can find.
I'm officially an idiot: I've gone to teach my first years based on my phone alarm, which is still set to european time so I'm an hour early :(
Aww. What's on the lesson plan today?
Today I need to be silly. I'm having a 'Salmon Day' today :(
K.R, I couldn't find anything. Do you have any more info? Are you also sure it's 1963?
Only Steven Roy can help us now. :D
Why am I being moderated for commenting on my post about the science museum? I just wanted to add a link to a story about the official opening...
The new Brawn GP website has been launched: http://www.brawngp.com
Better early than late, I say. :)
Hello! It looks brilliant. :D
The car they used is surprisingly sponsor-free...
I think comments on posts older than a week get moderated automatically. I will go look now.
Wow, it's... busy.
Cheers. I thought it was because of the link...
It's meh.
yellow and black on the car is growing on me, but yellow and black on the website links is awful.
Have rescued the original comment.
Many thanks ;)
It's not the most astounding website I've seen. But I guess it does the job - perhaps.
Is it just this crappy computer lab monitor or does that look *really* dark?
has anyone here had a bad experience with Sony cameras?
I was given a DSC W110 as a present and it was OK, but yesterday I found that the screen broke on the inside. It has never been dropped or knocked and it was in a Sony case. I am good with my electronics and my last camera still works after 7 years of service so I'm disappointed. Sony have told me not to bother fixing it as it's outside the warranty and I don't want to send it back to NZ (where it was bought) as it's unfair to lump this on my parents :(
I have heard horror stories when I worked in the electronics shop about Sony cameras but 5 months of usage is ridiculous!
I am on my 4th Sony camera, the first one I dropped in the sea, the second one I used until it was seriously outdated, the third one I dropped off a balcony onto concrete....
I'm being very careful with this one ;)
So they're cursed then?
I think I just have a problem holding on to things after a few drinks!
Spoken like a true kiwi ;)
It's pretty good, actually. I've seen better, but I've definitely seen a lot worse.
We have a Sony camera, had it for a year-plus now, and it's perfectly fine.
I wonder if Vettel is going to have yet another helmet design for Spain. I quite like that he keeps changing them, because most drivers helmets are so boring.
I like it, but at the same time, I like it when a helmet is recognisable.
true, especially in those damn red bull cars which I can't tell apart at speed. Two cars is bad enough, but 4 is terrible.
Yes you can.
If at front = RBR
If mixing with Force India/BMW Sauber at the back = STR
Simples.
:D Buemi's gonna get a win though ;)
If it's winnning - Vettel
If it's involved in an unlucky incident - Webber
If it's mixing it up in the midfield shouting "NOOOOOOO!"- Buemi
If it's at the back with Piquet - Bourdais
Oooooooooh!!
Morning all.
Morning. You're easily pleased, I see?
It was a very nice wake up surprise I must admit. I really like it, at least.
Just noticed that the comments in this thread aren't updating in the bog-standard Web-o-format. Are pages being cached because the 'Recent Comments' widget in the sidebar suggests there are some responses and...
[logs into doohickey]
...yup, there they are! :-)
Uh, is this to do with what Mr C said yesterday?
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/06/daily-6th-may-2009/#comment-289702
Aha! That'll be it then. Time to change my viewing habits and join you groovy cats on the doohickey thingy-me-bob.
It might be best to stay off your favourite un-named energy drink too ;)
It's what all the cool kids are doing :)
Oh, well I'll just drink some delicious (yes, I said "DELICIOUS") 100% natural Cola by a certain unnamed Austrian drinks company instead. :-D
You're wrong!
Just looking into what bets to place this weekend. Have I missed something here, but Webber's down for 12/1 to win the race, compared to Alonso and Hamilton whose odds are 10/1.
Right ok... Acts of idiocy from other drivers aside, ol' Webbo hasn't done particularly badly all season. Granted like boxers, all the teams are playing up their chances for Spain, but I still don't think they'll outpace the RB5
You haven't missed anything, people are dumb.
Much to my delight!
Whatever!
We still love you though.
Eddie Jordan has been choosing the tracks of his years on Radio 2 this week. On at the moment.
Seconded. It's like cola that has been soaked in a dishcloth for a week and then marianated in an old shoe before bottling in a can washed out with pine floor cleaner!
*caresses can*
"They don't mean it RB, ignore them..."
Hehehe.
I'm not even sure they sell it here, but now I'm curious. I've never seen it in a shop but then again I've never been looking for it in a shop. Perhaps this can be my mission on my lunchbreak tomorrow.
Tracks as in music rather than circuits, presumably.
Wikipedia says it's not available in your neck of the woods. Thailand's close by, dunno how long your lunch breaks are but you could perhaps hop over there and buy some?
Ah, good point that. It's music. Radio 2 get musicians to do the week long feature when they have something to plug. I think his band have a new album out at the moment.
I wouldn't, if I were you :)
OK, I shall stick with my Mountain Dew which rumour has it isn't available in the UK. I'm not sure how I'd survive life without it.
It's not. :(
I get mine from RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath though. :D
where there is a will there is a way. My example is there is only one NZ food shop in Melbourne, and it takes an hour on a train then a 3km walk to get there, but it's the only place I can get the right type of tomato sauce :(
Why not?
Watties?
of course! the stupid thing is they make it in Australia, but they don't sell it here.
because it's sh..
I just found a shop that sells Lucky Charms near me. Imported and costs £7.50 for one box. Gah.
I'm going to pretend you didn't say that. Even the bottle says its NZs favourite. The bottle is more correct than you :P
My wife stocked up on those chewy square lollipops while we were in the UK...
I bought so many amazing things at The British Lolly Shop in Queenstown. It's amazing how exciting overseas junk food can be :D
Heinz FTW...
I took the fake killer question out of the panel wiki page, it was upsetting me :D
on any post older than 10 days there is a message beneath the comments box that reads:
"Comments will be sent to the moderation queue."
in part, this keeps the spammers at bay, but also means we don't have to keep an eye on every single post we've ever written.
So should I have posted my comment in today's thread or the Ferrari Store thread?
nope. what you did was fine. you just need to be patient until we unmoderate the comment.
i shall change the warning message now, to explain what happens and why though.
Do I need to ask for it to be unmoderated or do you see it anyway? I just didn't want it forgotten about...
apologies for the annoyance, however, we are winning the war against what appears to be a very unusual "attack". assuming that is in fact what it is.
more detail later, but as a result our processor usage has reduced considerably.
Out of interest, is it wp super cache that you use? The newer version of that damn plugin is causing all manner of problems for my blog with comments.
this is what we see:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/pending-queue-png
normally the pending queue is at zero. when something is awaiting approval it'll show and increase, so we're almost certain to see the comment waiting there.
it is wp super cache, although we've only been using it for 24hrs. what issues are ya having?
Good to know, cheers!
of course, if you had a blog...
Well in previous versions, if someone left a comment on a post it would appear instantly. Regardless of whether they had previously left one before or were logged in.
But in the latest release, any dynamic content (such as comments) take however long to appear before the cache is emptied again.
Um...? That would have helped how?
you'd know that as soon as something went into wordpress moderation, you'd be able to see it :)
that is odd. do you have it in full-on mode, or half mode?
Not all bloggers use Wordpress, of course. Some of them are sensible.
also true :D
I have it in full-on mode.
I've had a look on Google and the only reference I could find to it is here. Which might be of some help?
christ. is that even english?
looks like whatever the problem was has been fixed though?
Well you'd think that, but I'm having the same problems.
Anonymous user leaves a comment on a post. Page refreshes. Comment hasn't appeared. Yet it is definitely there and takes until the cached page has been deleted to then appear.
Dunno if its worth worrying about in my case as I get about two comments a week, but Sidepodcast's case, it's maybe a different story!
James Allen tweet:
Just arrived in Barcelona after 6-55am Easyjet from Gatwick. Ross Brawn was on the plane, good to see he's not splashing the cash!
As morbid as this may sound, I often wonder if it is wise that so many people within the same team/industry actually travel on the same flight. Reading back to China, I believe both Brawn drivers, Brawn himself, a couple of the Red Bull guys and loads of mechanics from various teams were on the same flight.
Surely you wouldn't want to risk it?!!
I guess they go with the odds of something happening against the nightmare of booking six different flights?
Hey Fairy Blogmother, do you suggest Wordpress over Blogger, BTW?
Big brakes, strut braces and new anti roll bars fitted - not to let the car settle before finallt bleeding the brakes for the hopefully final time and going for a drive. :D
I think that every year when this flies very slowly and very, very low over Albert Park. Can't help but wonder how F1 would go on if the entire paddock is wiped out at once. That photo really doesn't capture how low that damn plane is.
that's a bugger :(
we're not having that problem though are we?
sidepodcast's issue is that any comment left using doohickey won't refresh the thread on which it was commented or the recent comments on the homepage. however, the reason for that is entirely my fault, doohickey doesn't touch wordpress code, therefore it never tells the cache to reset when new comments are left.
we didn't use caching until yesterday, so i've not needed to account for the scenario before.
in theory, any comment left using ye olde should appear immediately?
Which car is this?
We need pix!
*relaxes*
Got accomodation for Goodwood weekend. Phew.
hehe, where are you staying?
RX8 231 in mud splattered red.
Brakes are scarilly bigger. Gone from 330mm vented I think to 355mm grooved discs. Single piston to 4 piston calipers on the front too.
What do sensible bloggers use then?
Oh, well I guess it might be a different issue then. Just seemed spookily similar to the one I am having at the moment. Must be just a coincidence!
you've just got to dive right in a try it. blogger and wordpress accounts are free to set up. just have a go and see what suits.
'Tis a great photo though.
This one maybe shows relative to the crowd: http://www.flickr.com/photos/heybeans/2353644158/
Personally, I suggest Wordpress all the way. It is very functional... until you try and start doohickeying.
nah, i just like creating problems for meself.
wish i could help more with the caching issue, have you tired it in half-mode?
I tried blogger last time and nobody could comment without logging in somewhere. Also the WYSIWYG editor was pnats but Windows Live Writer will fix that... ;)
I miss the F-111 's doing their fuel dump and burn. That was impressive. :D
and this year they used the A380 so it was even bigger and scarier.
Yup, just tried it now. No difference. I'm going to go locate a previous version and try and use that instead. Though that'll have to wait until this evening before I can properly test it!
looks much the same in photo though
Christine 'Four blogs' Blachford approves. Sounds good to me then!
I just had to try to explain to my mother what a podcast is. Theres a good reason I'm not a teacher.
Todays lunchtime viewing *whil all the servers update themselved and kill the interwebnet speed...* will be one of my top 5 movies of all time...
The Godfather
No it wont - can't find the disc...
Damn.. :(
Oh dear - Gillett still insisting that the GP will happen at Donington..
Whatever hallucinogens he's on - I want some!
Tell her it's like a Radio show...
Has somebody pointed this out to Christine yet?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/gallery/2009/may/06/panda-china-wolong?picture=346954220
oh.my.god
:D :D
cept for video podcasts, they're like tv.
All it needs is for someone to photoshop in a bottle of beer and a tv remote... ;)
Number 10 may be the cutest thing ever.
she's not having one.
...but you're welcome to get one, and we'll come visit.
How could anyone NOT want one?
F2 is sounding like a really bad idea at the moment - just read a bit more into it.
1 engineer for 3 cars - and the engineers rotate through the field
standard setup for all cars at the start of the weekend *ok - this one I can understand*
driver can adjust the front wing and front roll bar
All other adjsutments can only be made within limits set by the chief engineer
So if you like a really loose car or some other handling trait - you probably won't be able to get it. :(
This is meant to be a level below F1? Shows what Max has planned really...
Although - 400bhp 1800cc Audi engine sounds pretty impressive *450 with booooost!*
tilt-shift panda?
Don't confuse them - they're 60 year old Danes (the outlaws) that just use the computer for fotos and emails - videos are still big black plastic things for use with a telly!
I also love the one doing an aeroplane impression in number 7 and yeah the ones shooting the breeze on the front porch in number 5.
In number 5 it's like the guy is saying to the other one, "yeah so I said to him..."
I like pandas stuck up trees too.
what about about enhanced podcasts? they're like visual radio...
ALEX!!
just spotted that one. I now have the Dambusters theme going through my head. :D
my parents thought they were doing well to have Skype, and my mother has an iPod. She often Skypes me for a refresher on how to use it however. They may now be sidepodcast fans though.
Oops!
yay! do they doohickey?
There's panda video too: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/video/2009/may/07/panda-china-wolong
I heart the Guardian.
Flibster did a nonvisible character in there again!
grr :(
no, but they promise to listen to any podcast in which I feature :D
Can I blame Vista for that one? ;)
please do.
Did you try scanning for that last one?
That was a 4 if we're keeping count.
i tried copying is for posterity, but i won't copy into textpad or textwrangler. and i have to delete it, because it breaks lclt :(
*it won't
perfect.
Well that's one up from mine (not the Danes)
My dad won't even listen to a football one!
Sensible fellow.
this is what i learnt from the video. there was an earthquake in a region of china that affected the panda's sanctuary. now there are plans to rebuild the sanctuary in the same area... an earthquake zone?
Um... I could send you a text file with in in?
But yes that code I wrote last time should be able to get rid of it in the javascript. If you need to do it in the PHP then I'm not really your man.
I know a much safer place for the pandas to stay.
:)
javascript is good. can strip it before the comment gets to the server. if you could forward me a text file, that would be grand. cheers.
*explodes*
Oooh. :D
It's China. Everyone's expendable. Seen their cars and Coal mines lately?
Not pandas though.
Done :)
Pandas are cuter than people!
I like this yahoo answers question on pandas
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070915163602AAuccmR
you're not helping!
;)
No it's okay it says that it's ilegle.
:D
At what point did you think he was trying to help? ;)
:)
go back in time and buy one at Harrods, then it could be a story just like Christian the Lion and millions will cry upon seeing you be reunited on youtube.
The problem with Christine keeping a panda at Sidepodcast Towers would be the constant colds you two keep getting.
It turns out that panda sneezes are pretty loud:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzRH3iTQPrk
Probably more disturbing to podcast recording than even an owl.
(Sorry Mr C!)
China's cars? MG TF? ;)
is it me, or is that hexagon not central?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/renault-lid-jpg
I was thinking Brilliance BS6 but that will do.
It's the goggles that are off.
Is the Renault logo a hexagon or a diamond?
Possibly not - it's not be a straight on shot though.
The hexagon is, the goggles aren't. It's not helped by the fact the photo's been taken at an angle
ah. i'll let them off then.
Me fail English? Thats umpossible!
BulletinF1 are my new favourite tweets ever:
Shooting the breeze on the balcony while watching Giancarlo Fisichella fall up the stairs on his way to press conference. Clever lad.
Please fire him now!
The point is, he's a football fan.
Does that make me silly for listening to them, even if they are from the panda-friendly Guardian?
I figured that much. It was a joke, really.
I encourage people to listen to as many podcasts as they can about whatever subject they so desire. Chances are you'll find one to meet what you're looking for, and if you don't, then I can highly recommend making one instead.
I notice that Mr C doesn't encourage people to get their own podcast! Just their own blog.
Yeah I knew it was a joke. So is 'Football Weekly' sometimes ;)
I think I have about 20 podcasts on my menu. But not all are regular ones, so they all fit in somehow!
I want to find a podcast that will teach me Finnish. I have found one for every other language :(
i guess the problem is, it would encourage questions like "which podcasting software is best?" life is just too short :)
also, i don't have time to listen to the all official f1 podcasts as it is. please don't ask me to listen to even more!
Try podcastaaaatavala.com ;)
Don't worry about it - some are just not worth it!
Sidepodcast is the only podcast i've totally 'gotten into'. I have a few on iTunes but im still relatively enw with the whole podcast scene... lou has said she's going to make me fully divulged into the world of podcasts though sooner than later.. :)
if you made a podcast i'd want to listen to it though. i just wouldn't have the time to be able to :(
Every time somebody makes a podcast it makes the baby Mr C cry :(
Hmm. I can only find one that started and finished in June 2008. I'm not sure three episodes is enough to learn Finnish.
The Renault one is excellent, the FIF1 one is good, and the Williams one could be better but it goes on about Nico's photography habits!
Good read on BBC site with an article by Mark Webber about Spain and the effect Adrian Newey has, thought it was a good read.
If only it was! Understanding Kimi in his native language, and fast internet for all!
agreed, and i also have cff1. but even then, i haven't listened to the bahrain gp show yet...
CFF1 isn't as good as last year for some reason...
I don't think this is a podcast but it is an online way to learn Finnish with audio...
http://donnerwetter.kielikeskus.helsinki.fi/FinnishForForeigners/
Question for "me"
There is a question on a topic at PF about the McLaren straightline test. and since you were there you may know the answer?
The person wanted to know what happened at the end of the straight did the car have a run off area to turn round and repeat the run?
Lee McK's tweet:
Yeah - why couldn't BBC show it??
THREE storeys?! Goodness, what would they do with three storeys?
The Red Bulletin say Ferrari have two four storey buildings
then I see this from BulletinF1 - thanks for the link, Amy.
FOUR?! That is just insane. No wonder they don't want any budget caps.
sort of. it's a big wide runway in comparison to a very small f1 car. maybe three times the width of the malaysian gp track. the car just runs up and down the runway and turns around when it gets to the end.
there's not a specific run-off area, nor a loop. it's just a very wide straight.
that make any sense?
didn't mclaren have a three storey home in '07 and ferrari a four storey one last year? sounds like the red team have just brought a second tower.
I wish I had a portable sky scraper.
As a point of reference, look at how the Top Gear test track is laid out - or Burke Lakefront. Runways make for a very wide straight!
Sure, thanks. Sounds like Ferrari may be not within the spirit of the rules then ;)
apparently this is last years
because they're going around their test circuit?
that's fine so long as they don't complete a full lap, right?
they had a much bigger one sitting opposite that though. i guess the two now face each other?
this one?
scratch that, here is the latest 2009 version
http://xpb.cc/viewpicture.asp?id=302409
Ohhh my. Didn't realise it was that big.
yeah. this is the only pic i can find so far this year:
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/photolarge.php?photoID=124982&catID=1102-3705
but there's nothing opposite it?
ahhhhhhh. bingo.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/ferrari-motorhome-jpg
There's a video Mav has posted along with a circuit diagram and there is a definite corner. Here's the Linky
no wonder they are always so happy to get back to Europe, these put their little Albert Park tents to shame.
What kind of truck does that fold out from? Optimus Prime?
Yeah but that's hardly taken at racing speed though?
Crazy McLaren front wing:
http://xpb.cc/f1/viewpicture.asp?id=302375
And this caching thing is really causing me trouble. Oh well, leaving work soon anyway.
force india also have a revised building:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/force-india-motorhome-jpg
i prefer force india's over last years. and i don't remember, but williams' appears bigger:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/williams-motorhome-jpg
bmw looks the same as does mclaren's and renault's rather compact offering. brawn appear to have painted honda's old box. can't find a good pic of toyota, but the roof looks about identical.
The place is FIA approved, right? So surely the FIA would know aboutthe layout of the ends of the straight? Notthat I'm saying the video proves so much wheher it's legal or not, but if anyone were to complain then the FIA approval would surely be brought up.
Is that from Bahrain? It's nice!
oh, energy station is as before.
Tiny Finnish lesson inspired by Gavin's comment
tapa means manner, way ..
(to do sth) in a way is tavalla.
tapa is the strong form of the word but for certain declinations like -lla you need the weak form of the word (this depend on the word because for some words you need the strong form for -lla declinations. )
I do it in my way is: (Minä; you don't need that) teen (from tehdä = do) sen (you need the genetive of se = it because .. I don't really know but you need it) omalla (oma = own -lla ending because it follows the noun it refers to) tavallani (tavalla in the way and -ni because it is my way; -ni is the personal ending for first person singular used like my - sort of)
Another example for the strong/weak forms is Heikki
If you want to say for Heikki it's Heikille but if you want to put something into Heikki (I am aware that my example is not the best one ;)) it's Heikkiin
Btw for Kovalainen would be Kovalaiselle (but that's something else again)
i like that. :)
I saw Brawn's earlier and I'm sure it's the same ones as they had last year but obviously with Brawn
agreed. doesn't appear to offer much advantage to me?
I don't want to learn anymore, I'm confused already :D
Yup.
Hamilton ran it - Kovalainen didn't.
Learning Finnish to understand Kimi is not worth the effort ;)
Cheers Kathi - I knew my silly comment would bear some fruit ;)
one of my friends speaks quite a bit, but he went on an exchange for a year in high school :D
Hello all, how are we today? anyone up to anything fun?
I also need your (collective) help with a question thats been plauge-ing me for literally minutes....Do pregnant people float better than if they weren't pregnant?
All help/jokes/general comments welcomed :D hehe
So Nelson Piquet Jr is blaming his qualifying performances for his lack of success in the Renault
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75086
I guess spinning out or going out of races in general isn't his fault, it's qualifying's fault. *whistles*
fyi jackie:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/renault-f1-straightline-turning-circle-jpg
nelson almost came to stop and the then performed a 180. apologies for the pic quality.
lets see if we can start a vicious rumour based on one photo:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/mclarenlineup-jpg
Kovalainen dropped for Spanish Grand Prix
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Heikki Kovalainen has been dropped from the team lineup for this weekends Spanish Grand Prix.
"I am unwilling to return to the scene of last years accident" said the Finnish driver.
He has been replaced by McLaren tester, and Spanish driver Pedro de la Rosa.
"I have not driven in a race since 2006 so I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel in front of my home crowd" said de la Rosa on Thursday.
Do you think I could get a job at GMM? ;)
:D
Haha :D
I would think they would float better, but my opinion is just really based on the fact that pregnant women carry more fat and that should aid buoyancy
Which race was that pic taken in? ;)
see, thats what i thought originally, but they'd be heavier too....so maybe it depends on how far gone they are...hmm. lol
just to clarify, i'm not planning on trying this (although it would be a good experiment) i just know someone who's pregnant who went sailing, and wondered what would happen if they fell in....
I was hoping you weren't planning to throw a pregnant woman off a bridge ;)
Generally more fat=more buoyancy - your density lowers. That's why it's not always clever to weigh yourself when exercising, because often you gain muscle and the weight goes up!
that would be an amazing question in a physics paper....
"A pregnant woman with a mass of 95kg has been pushed off a bridge that is 20 metres above the water.
Calculate the speed at which she will hit the water, the time it takes her to fall, and the amount that she raises the water level"
I'd almost retake physics just for that question.
Can I recommend that you don't ask any pregnant women the question?
:D
"Excuse me, do you float better before you got pregant or now?"
*slap*
"owwww, i guess i deserved that"
am i the only one concerned about jon's plan for his sail boat?
LOL, that i hadn't thought of, i meant a proper boat before....
*wonders* hehe
the chances of nothing happening for the first 30 minutes of FP1 are 100%, no? I will miss them, and I'm quite sure I shouldn't be too concerned.
it's fair to say the teams know this track rather well.
and last time i checked, all the corners were named.
you'll be fine.
but I'd hate to miss all the new gravel at turn 9, or as F1 live call it "Kovalainen corner"
rob's site, it has returned: http://grandprixdiary.com/
actually, it looks like it's been back a while. oops.
And it's got a lovely pic of an A1GP grid girl on it ;)
you're so easy!
i think it could do with comments though, even if they're modded first.
will buxton on twitter:
"just had tapas chez McLaren. With the Energy Station now running a restricted entry list, methinks Macca might become the hangout of choice."
my world just crumbled
restricted entry? how very non-Red Bull. It's almost like they're deliberately helping to make McLaren cool
gutted :(
But nobody can replace the lovely Lee McK :)
The point is that she was an A1GP girl and not from F1...
On the links page:
Sidepodcast - Want F1 news on your iPod? No, me neither, but for those who do this is the place for you, lots of lively debate too.
We'll be taking that as a compliment then!
ahh.... ok ;)
:D
Hmm, as a pilot, I too have struggled with this question as a weight and balance issue to see if the plane can still fly.
Do I count the unborn child as adult man (180 lbs/1 passenger), an adult female (120 lbs/1 passenger) or carry-on baggage (30 pounds / 0 passenger) and the maximim take-off weight on a 1900 pound aircraft is 4000 pounds...?
I usually count the unborn child as carry-on baggage as the 30 pounds comes cloest to the actual weight of the child...
Knowing that the weight of (sea) water is 64 pounds/ cubic foot (1 ft length, 1 foot width and 1 foot depth) We need to see how much weight and volume the poor lass has gain to calculate this question.....
She has been around in the F1 website sense. I hope she likes her pic being taken ;)
I saw Kimi on TMZ.
Kimi. On TMZ.
And they said they had no idea how to pronounce Raikkonen.
Goodness. :D
as i've said before, what has the world come to...?!
no more than an hour ago I was thinking to myself "I never see paparazzi shots of F1 drivers, I wonder if thats just an Australian thing, or if they don't actually exist"
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75090
Seems Kubica's already complaining about the car before he even drives it now. I expect next race to hear him complain the car isn't fast enough for 2010!
"We didn't really know what a Kimi Räikkönen is "
love it.
the hulk to do f1 next year?
not enough smily Hülk faces in that article!
Afternoon all. This England cricket thing seems easy.
I thought we called him captain hook now?
hüüüüüüüüüüüüülk :D
Win. :D
On the pregnant floating question... Just a quick point... Women tend to float more than men because um... Well there is more subcutaneous fat present but also because there tends to be more fat in the hips area. And because that is a heavy area of the body it will tend to make you float more (if say you lay on your back). The hinge in your middle is the bit where you most often sink if you do that.
While you will tend to accumulate fat during pregnancy you will also add more weight in the hip area which will tend to make you less balanced and therefore I would guess less buoyant all told.
This conversation can only lead to an epic fail :(
I am so glad this question hasn't gone away yet.
Ummm.. Yes. Perhaps I shall withdraw my comment... Sorry it's the scientist in me.
Lukeh just added ascii character 2 in the When is a team not a team thread.
Odd...
Lukeh are you using the desktop doohicky?
As always, but I don't see it?
Don't worry... You're not supposed to be able to see it.
how weird. it's not visible in safari either?
Jacques Villeneuve isgoing on about how him and Jock Clear have been talking F1
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090507162628.shtml
"I want to be clear: I am not presently in talks with anyone at all regarding a return to F1," he stated. "I simply talked with Jock, and he told me I would like it."
Although no-one would take him of course. Unless a clause in his contract saw the team release a single at every track then a compilation album at the end of the year that a massive 103 people will buy, a 100% increase in purchases of his first album. :P
I saw it.
Anyone else think that with those glasses he looks like Penfold from Dangermouse?
You have to have the right eyes for it (and Firefox on XP - other browsers are available).
in safari?
Hahahaha!! He does!
Nope. Sorry. I stay out of conversation.
:)
Hey all.
i've just got home from a very tiring first day of my textiles exam.
How is everyone?
i see my favourite team have launched their website - ♥
It is a simple displacement question. As much as I would hate to compare a pregnant lass to the RMS Queen Mary (The 81,961 tonnes Ocean Liner, and in a roundabout way, getting back to Jon's "boat" incident) The principal is the same. The weight of the water that is displaced by dropping the Queen Mary into the water has to be more than 81,961 or else I have an awesome dive site....
Thanks for all the help, random question i know, but strangely i think it needed an answer :D
heya lou :) have you had a look at the site yet? It's such an improvement!
Think it looks really nice, that picture of Jenson and Rubens on the home page is very poignant too.
:D haha
:P
You know what, a condundrum like this would make an excellent panel question *runs and hides*
;)
:D
theres only 1 way to figure it out....i have to try it.... anyone know of 2 people exactly the same except ones pregnant? hmm...maybe i havent thought this through
seem like an odd location for the car. but assuming they're planning on racing it...
look at the bmw rear wing!
can i have a capital WTF please?
Did Mr C just capatalise? It must be strange.
*Looks at it*
Indeed it is
wow wow wee wah wah :O
I did say that looks like a slide - fun! But it didnt go through..
whatever it is, i wasn't expecting it.
erm... it looks like Brawn are making the most of their fame and publicising a film
http://images.gpupdate.net/large/125027.jpg
Amniotic fluid has a specific gravity of 1.008 which makes it slightly heavier than water
Don't know how relevant that is to the equation, just saying
yay! sponsors.
if button wins, are we going to get terminator puns now?
o.o
Ooooooook... Jenson to turn up in Barcelona as Arnold Schwachnegger?
now this would've been a better colour scheme:
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/photolarge.php?photoID=125030&catID=1102-3705
how on earth do you know that?!
:o :o
want! And that is very yummy colours.
Nice!
Hello nice colours
you know about the sponsor they confirmed today, right? (i haven't had chance to read through comments or anything so sorry if it's already been mentioned.)
http://www.brawngp.com/readstory.asp?bgp=j%C1%AA%C0rYyf
Although Im gonna be brave and say I love the colour scheme on the new Brawn site
i agree it is really nice. but then again don't mind the yellow, so...
I swear I have no luck, might have pulled a muscle in my calf trying to put my feet up
If I didn't know better I'd be believing my own fake rumour. I haven't seen any pictures of Heikki in Spain yet :(
didn't someone say it was a sports drink?
What new site are we talking about, I just see the old site with more stuff?
*scratches head*
www.brawngp.com - no more www2!
they have a rather retro fall wall. which is a '90s guest book by another name.
they do at least have comments on news articles.
erm?...
Ok, new address - same content?
or a fan wall.
not to be confused with vanwall, either.
sorry. that was williams. carry on.
Willans, manufacturer of safety harnesses
Sexy! ;)
Brawn statement: http://www.brawngp.com/readstory.asp?bgp=j%C1%AA%C0rYyf
i know bernie's only a small chap, but his home is a bit pathetic.
nice garden though.
love anyone to tell me how max thinks x3 more teams are going to squeeze into that paddock mind you.
Whose is the latest tune, Gavin?
That, is a very good point!
How environmental. Needs more green strips though
Off to bed then. See ya in the morning. :D
night sir.
G'night Journeyer
I should probably go to bed too, my search for proof that Kov is in Spain has turned up nothing :D
See ya journeyer
There might be some spare room in the dark corner no one uses anymore
:D
Hopefully, we'll see him tomorrow, the McLaren website has a statement from him.
G'night Amy
presumably the gp2 garages out back will be free, after max decimates their championship with f1 cost cutting and and the f2 championship?
the FIA press conference transcript has just come out. I love this bit:
Q: Tomorrow you are going to be honoured by the circuit here. They are going to unveil a
plaque to you. What are your feelings about that?
LH: I was just recently told about it, just half an hour ago. I think it is fantastic. It will be a great moment to be standing. I don’t know if Fernando will be there. Is it all the drivers? Well, I think it will be great to be standing next to Fernando as a known Formula One World Champion. I think it will be a real privilege.
Talk about trying to make nice with the local boy! Has he forgotten there was another champion in between the two of them?
bye amy.
Woo, going to hospital. See ya in a bit
he sounds scared witless about the fans reaction.
yaaaaay!! :)
good luck sir.
Hope all is ok RG, report back later please and post any x-rays to drop.io
:D
*wipes tea from keyboard*
I can see the headlines tomorrow: "Fernando misses Lewis, wants to be back at McLaren"
I was a season at McLaren and I had no real problems with Lewis. We had a good competition which helped each other to find our limits. I can say that maybe I am missing that competition in a way because, as I said, it was quite fun to really push and find new limits from ourselves.
or maybe the more likely headline, "Alonso thinks Piquet is rubbish"
aw :( good luck R.G
I know which one is more likely ;)
you would never have guessed ron's left the paddock for good, would you?
Wouldn't it be excellent if you could have your x-rays emailed to you
How hard would that be?
especially with his next line
The problems I had there were with the big bosses and the philosophy of the team, so I decided to move on from that period of my career
the government are currently making it look very expensive and very difficult.
methinks he's got his eye on a cocktail or two.
Bit of a long 1 this but, when, on the friday of last years British GP, Bernie announced at Silverstone that the 2010 race would be going to Donnington I was gutted. Then when I sat back and kinda analysed it I thought NO WAY they'll never be ready in time, seems so far I'm on the right track.
Then I got to thinking, Bernies always after a sensational headline, so this is what I thopught then and still think now.
Donnington get British GP contract for 10 years, Donnington can't get the circuit ready for 2010, Bernie being 78 years old and surely close to retiring says "this is my lasting legacy to British Motorsport" and gives the contract back to Silverstone and becomes everyone hero, he'd like to known as the 1 that saved British Motorsports heritage he's that vain.
correctamundo! however far fetched it sounds, its quite likely to be true
Kangaroo TV is doing Le Mans: http://kangaroo.tv/kangaroo-sports/lemans.php
now that is interesting. i can't see much use for the "my favourite car" setting, mind you ;)
There's a shop in Milton Keynes that sells all manner of US produce including Lucky Charms at rather less than £7.50 a box. I'll go and have a look tomorrow and check the prices. They have Mountain Dew as well.
Both LPG and I like un-named Austrian Energy Drink company's cola. It's made with real ingredients and not massive amounts of sugar. Fentimans cola is nice too. Actually all the Fentimans drinks are nice.
There is only one car, isn't there?
I hear they're introducing more drivers other than Franck this year, what a crazy idea!
It'll never work.
but i though the Mans of Le Mans was a shorterned version of Montagny!?!
if there is how is Franck coming second all the time? *runs*
ooooooooooooh :P
You need a WSUS server, I'm a bit of an expert on those. Downloads all the updates once instead of once for each machine on the network. Cuts bandwidth use massively. Packet shaping also helps. :)
I've got to get round to re-making all my disk images.
I do have various OS CD/DVD's with SP's and other updates slipstreamed into them - just need to get the time to update them.
Pets ill?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/berkshire/8038330.stm
Evening peeps, what's the big news of the day? :)
evening Scott :)
Check it out peeps - Ferrari F60b aero updates :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru6fVE8D42g
Looks like a new diffuser and exhaust coverings.
Wait a minute - I'm seeing videos names F60b from a few days ago at what looks like Fiorano. Does this mean that Ferrari have been track testing, and if so isn't this against the rules?
Correction - it's at Vairano. Either it's straight line testing or they're up to something...
Wasn't straight line testing for Ferrari mentioned a few days ago?
With the sheer quantity of comments these days it's hard to keep up!
Where is everyone tonight? Hope everyone didn't disappear on my account! :P
Am guessing everyone's compiling their press releases for their imminent F1 team announcements ;)
i'm around, kinda. just so very tired.
*waves*
RG has gone to the hospital with a suspected calf injury (he did at home?)
more on alonso's troubles in bahrian:
"There was a problem with the radiator, we had some hot gas going into the cockpit. It burned my back and that was taking out even more water from my body. It was a very unlucky combination of factors that put me in that condition in the race."
y'ouch!
what a guy.... how horrible :(
i'm not sure 7th place was worth it though.
ouch. poor Alonso.
Quite a few burnt stories from Bahrain, serious issues that ambient temp has caused. Def needs to be earlier in the year [or much, much later] next time
Depends on his dollars/points rate I suppose
agreed, the cars were running way too hot, and the restrictions on opening up bodywork this year meant the engineers had nowhere to send the excess heat.
heh, true enough.
Nope. I mentioned his troubles in Bahrain to a friend from work who 'likes' F1 and his excuse for it was 'he saw lewis did well so he used an excuse to get a bit of attention' which sickens me a bit but goes to show with some people. Furthermore, I don't think I've even seen Alonso's troubles in the car even reported once asides from the obvious F1 places... I dunno why but that annoys me too. I think considering the circumstances he did an incredible job to go the whole race distance and whatnot, just like you say, not worth it for 7th.
I am afraid I am as much use as a chocolate teapot on this one
in that case, flav has a job for you.
:D
RG has returned with a confirmed calf injury buy putting my feet up (laugh, go on, I have ;)) Out for a few weeks, ie no football, and the evil nurse told me I have to walk on it as well.
?!?
Scary Bert, no sign of Ernie yet!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/real-bert-jpg
That must go on the injury list on the wiki.
Just took the car out for a little drive to test the new brakes and suspension mods. Brakes need bleeding again, little spongy. Didn't want to push anything too hard until the brakes are bedded in.
Will check all teh nuts and bolts again tomorrow.
Food shortly too. :D
Don't ask, I really don't know how.
Sorry to hear that RG get better soon.
And you came back unscathed?
A good day then! :)
Well that's a new one; hope you get better soon :)
Cruel nurses!
Yup. Going to take a little getting used to - it certainly feels better on the local back roads at a reasonable speed.
Shhhhhh don't tell Steven but I'm b....
where?
No he's not here I don't think .. but usually when I say the b word he pops out and says uh-oh major things happen like new religions
ooh, that 'b' word. thought you meant blogging.
It's not buffering at the minute is it?
hehe hadn't thought of that one
Confessions of a bored housewife?
i think i need to start following the comments more closely.....
I nearly got attacked by a dog and an old man whilst on my bike....bad times
christine's just reading dooce and i was trying to figure out if the woman was more or less likely to float in that condition... what you think?
Ooh baby sidepodcast?
:D
never. you can't podcast with one of them things, they're louder than owls.
you're thinking it too ;)
i thought of it in the first place i do believe ;)
Ah, be afraid if Christine is looking at baby blogs
:D :) :D
Step away from The Baby Gap
Not before I get my baby panda, no.
Quick, to the adoption centre!
LPG wants it to be known that she is not volunteering to assist with any practical experiments on this subject.
she (and i) have read dooce for about 4 years. i think i'm safe.
however, we might have to steal some blog design ideas from that site...
The only reason I would need a child is to have an excuse to watch and blog about Roary... and I already did that!
deal.
darn
:D
Oh yeah!
Dammit, too late
im not sure you need an excuse for a child, dont think it works like that ;)
Hey, there are some nice blog stuff on there
Oh.
Not even for sidepodscience?
ah-ha, another dooce regular?
Hehe you have proof you are allowed one now Christine :D
No, I'm just staying there are some nice stuff
LPG says no, sorry.
ahh, k. me likes the colours.
:D
assuming you don't mean the header, then yeah.
Right - back to working... :(
hehe. the footer mainly.
Oooh, yeah, that is nice. Me like.
I am probably missing something... but isn't it just black/grey/white?
thats what i was thinking :/
the images are orange and yellow. they stand out nicely.
Plus its simple, so nice and relaxing
Black, grey, white, orange and yellow?
OMG!
You're trying to turn Sidepodcast into the blog equivilent of ING Renault!
:D
:D
:D
Better than black and gold, my god what was I thinking then
we tried to tell ya.
in fact lou said it best.
i did?
*clicks link*
wow it's worrying that i don't remember that isn't it?....
Indeed it is so true.
But I was young then
it was 8 months ago, but then again i don't remember what happened last week, so i'm not much to go by :D
Man, it's gotten quiet again. :P
I have a question...is Alex Wurz or Wurzi as Jenson calls him ( :s ) actually Brawn GP's reserve driver? cause i thought there was something about Ant being the reserve driver now? plus i haven't actually seen a photo of Wurz since the season started i don't think.
link - http://www.f1network.net/main/s169/st144101.htm
good thing. that's means we're busy and not procrastinating :)
beats me. i thought it was ant.
Only reason I can think of is letting ant do the BBC stuff although it hasn't stopped him in the past testing. But yeah, haven't seen anything from the brawn camp about Wurz.
You fainted with a calf injury?
i'm going to have to investigate aren't i?.. lol... *sigh* i was hoping someone would know :) lol
Are you bored enough to start yet another religion?
Fainting was Tuesday, calf injury today, who knows when I wake up tomorrow I may walk into some good luck.
why would we need to investigate when we have you ;)
that might hurt, be careful!
It was sold here for a short while, must have been 12-15 years ago. It vanished as suddenly as it arrived. Shame because I liked it.
Or I could call myself Mark Webber.
No idea... Wurz said it is still him, but I think I remember Ant mentioning it was now him a while back...
As I mentioned earlier, there's a shop here in Milton Keynes that sells it.
lol
You can comment on a Blogger blog without logging in, you'll appear as "Anonymous" and the Blogger will get annoyed that you can't even be bothered to think of a nickname. Even 'Me' will do. ;-)
I think at the lat race Wurz was confirmed as the test driver due to some contract issue
Thinking through the logic of the 2010 regulations, budget capped teams are allowed to do lots of things that the uncapped teams can't, but all those things cost money, which the capped teams can't afford.
So Ferrari wins again :(
Maybe this is why the guy who set the quickest time in testing has jumped ship to F3..
he was? i don't remember that at all. i shall search for some information on it...
Nobody in my 'real life' knows I've been on one. Not until the college thing is out of the way. I'll get grief otherwise and I've got enough of that as it is..
I remember Wurz being delcared as a team advisor but not reserve driver, hmm. Strange stuff.
there is nothing about reserve drivers on the brawn site. do you think we can text ant ans ask him? lol
absolutely, are you around for fp1?
I'll definitely give it a go :)
Get a shout out then ;)
Must sleep, probably wake at 6 with agonising pain but see you all later and enjoy Bahrain practice
I'm always a race behind, ciao
no, sadly not :( i'll be in the last part of my textiles exam tomorrow :(
Will do, 2010 Bahrain may be a while away but it should be great! :P
Night RG. :)
night rg.
i'll still text them... but erm.. i wont get to hear it. like i did strangely for the british gp quali lol
boo. we shall entrust the job to lukeh then.
Is there an official FIA list of third drivers?
night RG, i hope your leg gets better soon.
:) yay!
not a clue. i'd look but the FIA website upsets me greatly as i get very confused by it. not sure why though.
yessir!
it's the FIA, it's purpose is to confuse and annoy rather than be clear and concise
It's not official but...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Formula_One_season#Drivers_2
They've done it for 2 or 3 years now. One of their first events back when they only did a few GPs a year.
that says ant is the test driver
the wikipedia page for brawn has both Ant and Wurz as test drivers...
just a few things from watching roary the racing car....
1) he really needs to get that wheel spin under control at the start, the tc regs are obviously hurting him
2) is it bad im watching the cars like i do f1, to see if they are understeering/oversteering?
3) when roary sleeps, the fia would have a field day with his flexible wing
4) since when did mechanics get early nights?
but 5thly....ROARY THE RACING CAR IS AMAZING
:D
When I commented on Indy 500 practice the other day and mentioned Mike Conway being the F1 link, I'd completely forgotten about Robert Doornbos who did those races for Red Bull a while ago, and also tested for them.
In today's list Doornbos is presently 6th and Conway is 23rd out of 32 cars which have set a time today. Qualifying is on Saturday, Sunday and next weekend.
And Justin Wilson of course. Doh! I'll just give up now...
;)
am i the only one that hasn't watched this childrens cartoon then?
I haven't!
If anyone wants to hear racing engines at a silly time on a Thursday night (i.e. now), click here:
http://indycar.neulion.com/indy/console.jsp
do it,, its actually amazing
live
it's not children's cartoon!
oh wait, it is, isn't it. hmmm.
Never seen it either
but... when? :( i fear that i wont survive next week and there is limited time before then...
christ. it works on a mac.
Leo Laporte combined with racing engines is an awesome combination
you tube :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3lQ_WVxbiM
try that for starters
:D
hmm... *clicks link*
:)
it just finished?
That doesn't stop me from watching programmes like The Secret Show or Charlie and Lola
I should point out that technically, Roary the Racing Car isn't a cartoon, being stop motion animated in three dimensions rather than two.
*watches for the first time*
We arrived just in time to be too late
that's the sidepodway.
Oh well that was quick, it just ended. At least it works and at least the official series website has live video at all!
That's the US version with different voices to the UK originals :(
Sorry I was too busy catching up on comments to realise it was still on :-)
Unless you're talking about racing engines on the cartoon thing...
animation.
booo, i did wonder why roary didnt sound like peter kay.
no worries, i really don't have time. but now i'm watching leo.
i blame steven.
okay.. so erm.. i'm watching roary the racing car.... is it bad that he reminds me a little of Massa before last year?
Well, I watched that youtube clip. here are my thoughts:
* o_O
* The main dude reminds me of James Allen... how disturbing. I now have an image of James Allen talking to f1 cars whilst on twitter
* I like how it's set in Silver Hatch. Will be disappointed if future episodes don't have lagunapolis...
* ...o_O
Is there enough interest in Indy for me to post the odd update now and again, or would it be too annoying? It's hard to know.
Is the American one set in Silver Hatch as well or did they change it?
I wonder if next year's series will have to move to Donington?
wait, Silverstone and Brands Hatch
Silver Hatch. how did i not see that before :D
I think the odd comment is a good idea
if you don't mind, i'm easily distracted :)
should also say, comments have been fantastic all week and everybody should be thanked (whilst christine is sleeping) for basically being ace.
am more busy and have been more tired than usual this week, but enjoying the lurking.
^^ what he said.
Okay. I'll probably point it out after F1 qualifying, because Indy's top 11 qualifying happens after it.
I think it is still Silver Hatch. For UK viewers, Roary appears on Channel Five.
We (heart) you too, me :)
you didn't read christine's post?
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/05/06/my-number-1-star/
uh-oh. i'm telling...
Yeah I've tried to sit back a bit more this week. Still throwing in the odd comment but tried concentrate on work - will defo be very quiet after quals Sat, after the race, and on Mon/Tue/Wed next week as I have a ton of college stuff to do.
;)
if i knew the heart symbol i'd do one... lou?
*whistles and slowly walks away*
I pressed send too early... I meant to add my agreement that I have enjoyed reading the comments even though I'm trying to sit back. :-)
I'm having real trouble formulating sentences coherently today. Maybe this is not a good time to write my weekly blog preview...

bah :-)
Hehe, we both realised the semi-colon was important. I once spent about 2 hours staring at some code wondering why it didn't do what I thought it should - the reason was (the lack of) a semi-colon
no worries. less commenting can sometimes be good anyhow. reading 1,000+ comments a day is impossible. 200 is much more reasonable.
argh, semi colons, evil!!
christ alive, you guys not use the preview button?
:D
Never
Oops, forgot that was there. Sorry.
♥
I'm still in LCLT after catching up on comments :-)
Rehearsals are for wimps.
oh.
Using preview would be like rehearsing the podpanel
i'm trying to use it all the time. we considered forcing people to preview first. not sure what people think of that idea though?
hahaha, righto!
sounds intrusive
surprisingly it's not that awful. because the previews come back quite fast.
now am double-tabbing to preview and then shift-tabbing back to post. still pretty quick.
I hate that idea. Live commenting would be awful if I had to preview everything
btw if anyone is so inclined they can go back to that video feed I posted earlier from 5pm to 11pm tomorrow but I'm not sure how interesting it would be to watch for that long. Might be good to dip in and and out. There also free timing on indycar.com. Not that I'm here to watch it.
For those not navigating with tab it could get annoying..
time for me to get some sleep so i don't do something silly like sew my fingers together tomorrow or something. night all, have fun watching free practice! x
night lou.
Good night Lou
needles + fingers = ouch, tried it myself :(
night
Would it be possible to enable/disable forced preview on a per-post basis? Or allow direct posts on the LCLT
night :)
Night Lou
what's your thinking?
Um, well in the same way that some sites enable/disable comments, you could enable/disable forced preview on some posts?
The other train of thought was to allow direct posting (no preview required) on the LCLT only, which would solve Steven's issue when live commenting races and qualifying.
right got ya.
it's not an essential thing to do. mostly it covers the fact we don't have an edit button. live commenting would become quite tiresome though i agree.
i just got palmed off with "sorry, i got carried away cutting my nails"
lamest.excuse.ever
Not quite:
David Frost rang Peter Cook up some years ago. "Peter, I'm having a little dinner party on behalf of Prince Andrew and his new bride-to-be Sarah Ferguson. I know they'd love to meet you, big fans; Be super if you could make it: Wednesday the twelfth." "Hang on... I'll just check my diary." Pause and rummaging and leafing through diary noises. And then Peter said "Oh dear. I find I'm watching television that night."
hahaha, thats amazing :)
Night all :) Enjoy free-practice.
see ya scott.
Night
night!
Aww I just re-found my Honda comic. Will have to make a Brawn one soon :)
Sounds interesting. Is it like the Beano?
I'll let you decide :D
That link squashes the writing, the full resolution is here... sorry about that :(
That's great. :D
Oooo - shades of teenage magazines....
I love it.

Hi Amber,
It's a cover of "Fast Car" by former Sugababes member Mutya Buena. It's on Disc 2 of the "Radio 1: Established 1967" album.
