Tuesday has arrived and before I do anything, I must point you towards yesterday's F1 Debrief. The show itself is marvellous, of course, but in the show notes there are some rather excellent outtakes - if such a thing exists. Actually, I might just post them again now anyway. Mr C and I could do with the embarrassment.
Now, on to other topics:
- Adam Hay-Nicholls has an unusual post on his Metro F1 blog - spending some time with Tamara Ecclestone. She has some rather forthright views on Jenson Button, but if she's anything like her dad, I don't suppose she worries about what she says.
- I mentioned yesterday that Mr C had spent some time watching NASCAR, and it looks as though that sport has just as much politics as F1. There was an incident involving Carl Edwards that he admits he caused on purpose, to try and knock his opponent out the way - revenge, if you will, for an early incident. Leigh has some thoughts on the concept of on track payback, and suffice it to say, it's not a good idea!
- Today is the last day for the Joe Saward competition, where we are offering you the chance to win a signed copy of his book The Grand Prix Saboteurs. We've had tons of entries, but there's still time to get yours in, and you never know, luck might be on your side.
- Finally, a quick plug to the TOTAL 2010 Grand Prix Travel Guide. It's clearly a marketing ploy, but has plenty of useful information in there including: "Where to stay in Korea? Where to get a drink in Bahrain?" The things you need to know.
That should do it for now. I hope your week is going smoothly, and as ever, I will see you in the comments.
Loved the outtakes :D
I can't wait to hear the full show...
ooh i got cake at work because it was international womans day. Cake rules.
Hi Amy
I expect cake on the 364 international mens days
hi amy
*borrowed from a Peter Serafinowicz tweet
time to collapse, bye
hi all!
bye pat
Good outtakes :)
Hehehe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0zt4opqL18
Potentially my favourite video in the world ever.
ipod has already shipped. I kind of love the apple store now.
Amy!! Control yourself....
i saved money though! I got a refurb instead of a new one!
Morning everyone :)
Refurb is such a great idea - cheaper and stright from Apple. I think this is how I will buy an iMac.
...and a new ipod.
...maybe even an iphone?
and still with a 1 year warranty which after my last iPod adventures I hope I will never need :D
I have to buy a new camera for the GP. This is getting ever more expensive!
I don't yet have a way to tweet from the track. I hope the stupid Blackberry will do it.
thats the way it works!
I'd imagine a Blackberry should be able to
ooh I have just read Adam's post on Tamara. She'll be on Lou's naughty list for sure.
Morning :)
She's on everyone's naughty list!
Morning all.
Morning Christine.
So I won't be watching qualifying live on Saturday as I will be going to see the flat again.
Yes, it is that important...
Guys,
I am officially excited now :D
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jonathanlegard/2010/03/when-patrick-head-talks-you.html
Blimey. First qualifying of the season and everything.
See it's not just moving flats - we are moving cities. My commute will be 3 hours shorter. It's a life-changing event...
You commute for 3 hours?!
Wonderful. My new camera from a "local store" has just been shipped - from Hong Kong!
Hehe. Any normal person would completely understand. I cancelled at least one wedding based on what races we would be missing though, so I do not :)
I see what you mean!
4 Hours, in total (2 there, 2 back). Why do you think I blog so much? It's because I am stuck on a train ;)
Hmmm. My brother's wedding is on Saturday. I'm best man. Is leaving early for ualifying OK??
Absolutely yes.
Eek. I commute for 15 minutes each way on a bad day.
:D I wonder if Mrs Brother will agree
She should have checked the F1 calendar before booking!
Sadly, non-F1 fans do not do this and do not understand either...
Exactly. We already missed a race meeting LAST weekend.
I say - careless.
Excuse for no best-man speech: Sorry, I'm off to watch qually for Bahrain. It's the best part of the weekend!
No, it's a shame. I don't really go to weddings but I would have to decline if it clashed.
Tell her that one alternative would be for you to sit in the carpark of the wedding listening to the commentary on the radio.
#mrcfact
Stand up, say, congrats, hold up glass, a toast, now I'm off. Byeeeeee.
Perfect. :)
Well I guess I have all evening to watch it ... and it's not like there's any rush to write a fuel-corrected post. After Qually I will just make a graph for each session's times and then a combined time - unless anyone has any better ideas?
:D
Can I put a quick request in?
Can we have another week before the season starts? Please? Pretty please?
so.much.to.do!
#threemonthpreseason
We should start a petition.
I would have thought this kind of thing would work in Australia...
"They say the best kind of speeches are short and to the point. Well the point is there is some sport on the telly, we've all got a beer, I think we can make an afternoon of this."
Works for me. ;-)
Where's my portable telly.......
Could you estimate the stopping lap for Sunday by comparing the fastest runs from the difference between Q2 and Q3 times? It would be interesting to see how accurate that was.
Oooh I could try but how would I do that without refuelling?
At least i can blame it on Christine. From the Internet.
Absolutely. Send them my way. I'll tell 'em.
If I am right in thinking afternoon wedding, 10pm is a great time to watch qualy. Even if you have to fake get drunk and cause a scene so they have to "put you to bed". You might ruin the wedding, but sometimes sacrifices have to be made.
Well I'm not sure what I meant really... Maybe it won't vary that much... Maybe we'll end up just looking at the stripe and saying, "these are the early stoppers, these are the later stoppers". Hmmm doesn't leave you with much.
As Bassano might add if he were here, "why get fake drunk"?
and FP3? Hmmmm. Checking if the beer tub is full?
LOL
he would say that wouldn't he! I would say you a) want to remember the wedding and b) don't want to actually sleep through qualy.
There might be something to this though. I'll make a note of pointing it out and linking to it post-race...
Can we switch a) and b) here? :D
I wonder if there would be an average drop off in performance that might show something too... But I think there are probably too many variables (traffic etc) to make that work.
or c) be the embarrassing older brother. I've already been the embarrassing younger brother.
Awe. Petter Solberg got all teary with 2nd place
#WRC
We will see - let me record the differences between the Q2 and Q3 times versus the lap of the first pitstop and see if there is a relation.
You would expect a short stopper to have a smaller gap though..
I would too - Subaru seem to have done a bloody good job of ruining his career...
oooh ipod has made it from Sydney to Melbourne already. Go go gadget apple store!
Indeed. Not to mention Chris Atkinson.
Solberg is such a great guy. He need Christine's ranking points!
Yay. Another package waiting? My camera is on the way from HK. Hope is makes it be Friday.
it should be here tomorrow and I am smart and told them to ship it to work so I can actually sign for it. I have a package of contact lenses on their way as well. I hope your camera makes it too! What day are you coming to Melbourne?
I'm driving to Melbourne on the Wednesday. Trying to make it before the track walk - it will be a long day.
I tried to save a days annual leave by working on Wednesday and hoping my shifts work out with the walk, I finish at 4pm so I should make it to the track about an hour after it starts.
I think it's open for a few hours. Hope we both make it.
how long is the drive for you? I am very unfamiliar with driving distances in Australia :D
Does the mobile doohikey auto refresh?
Morning everyone :)
About 6 hours. Groan.
ouch! and no, mobile doohickey does not auto refresh.
Guten Morgen.
Booo, where is the postman? He's usually here by now, he needs to hurry up!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81864
The new style of motoGP helemt.
Dont know if i would feel safe in that. No face mask
That lad is awesome - he has a helmet mullet too!
Why does MotoGP attract these guys but not F1?
Crazy hair. his helmet padding must be thinner than other riders
MotoGP encourages the wild personable types. Not sure why this is though.
Because you have to be crazy to ride one of those things?
And not an F1 car?
A slightly delayed tweets of the week: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/07/tweets-of-the-week-7th-march-2010/
Could you estimate the stopping lap for Sunday by comparing the fastest runs from the difference between Q2 and Q3 times? It would be interesting to see how accurate that was. {Comment #53}
They're both low-fuel runs... ...but we can use them to find out who went all-out (and is therefore sacrificing race pace for track position at the start) and those who held back a bit (who'll qualify worse but still have a car under them at the end of the first stint).
Yeah it's worth looking into - it's very little extra effort so we will see if anything comes from it...
If I am right in thinking afternoon wedding, 10pm is a great time to watch qualy. Even if you have to fake get drunk and cause a scene so they have to "put you to bed". You might ruin the wedding, but sometimes sacrifices have to be made. {Comment #57}
At my brother's wedding, some people were permitted not to show up for the reception at all (the most common reasoning used was that some people would find a wedding plus celebratory family meal enough on its own, but others included people looking after children or working) and even the others were only expected to be there for about an hour (long enough to see the first dance and eat some food). After that, the happy couple were fine with people slipping away, even if they danced half the night away alongside a number of their friends.
There was also at least one speech where the speaker took one look at the crib sheet and decided to severely curtail it because "it was too long and you know what it says already".
Luckily it's not really a formal wedding. There shouldn't be too many speeches and such
Yay for F1 Badger!
http://twitpic.com/17ir7k
Yay! How did you win that?
They had a thing on their new twitter pic to guess what the silohuetted car was, and I guessed correctly with the 7up jordan :)
well done! Or as I now like to call them after watching that BBC F1 video, Jordans.
Pluggety plug:
www.mclaren.com
Blimey. That's certainly very different.
Oooh, nice. The launch of their website though has reminded me of my own launch last night, to fit in my own plug here ;) http://gridwalktalk.wordpress.com/2010/03/08/unveiling-team-amazini-barresistancello/
Hi
Very nice!
gosh I was there but a few hours ago and it didn't look like that!
and they have appeared to have broken their fanclub, the forum link no longer works.
Apparently the Formula 1 2010 career mode will involve you having the ability to walk down the pitlane/paddock. Have seen a few sources say David Croft and Holly Samos may interview your driver in these career moments.
Does Lee McKenzie interview you after you retire and ask you if you are disappointed?
From what I've read the paddock stuff will let you choose whether to go to the scrum of interviewers so I'd imagine something like that would be in there. No idea if it'll be Lee, wil probably be Holly Samos I'd imagine.
One part of the article that made me laugh in a very guilty way is that if you have it on the complete sim mode, you can completely mess up your pit stops as in not brake soon enough and run down crew members. Obviously it'll cost you big time though. The physics engine is based off work with the teams as well, so steering and the weight of the car will be realistic. Plus you'll get weather conditions in where one part of the track could be steaming with rain and the other be dry, like what happens in Malaysia and whatnot.
They reeeeeeeeally are going for an ultra realistic game for the big consoles, as promised.
Blimey - that does sound pretty good!
it totally won't top Formula 1 on the PS1 because I can't be Mika. I have been having so much fun with that at work.
Which one AMy?
One of the articles I've been reading is on an f1 website that's not so reputable around these parts though, but most of the info is from magazine scans too so their info (which is information from @AndyGray_ who is working on the game obviously) matches what I've seen.
its just called 'Formula 1' it was the first one that came out in 1996
That's the best one anyway ;)
Noo, Formula 1 97!! It had a mini Murray and mini Martin mode!
And raining frogs!
I get sooo sick of hearing Murray Walker saying the same five or six lines over and over though :D
But the music and the intro was way better on the first one!
I loved the same line that kept coming on F197
"You're right there Murray"
The PS1 games were symptomatic of that. By far the worst was Jonah Lomu Rugby - I swear the commentary gave me more rage than the game itself!
and Willliams Numberone!
You're right there Lukeh ;)
Hahahahah!! I remember that :D
The worst line:
Bill (McLaren): "Oooh Goodness me, that tackle would have put him in ward 4!"
Bill (Beaumont): "I hope not Bill, that's a Maternity ward!"
*GROAN*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ye3lUvF2f9Y&feature=related
:D
I want that on real formula one please.
The game also had a cheat to turn F1 cars into Wipeout type hovercars
It also had Wipeout, Beatbox, big tyres and Virtua Racer mode!
But the original had random mode, lava mode, buggy mode and an awesome secret track!
did someone say 'game'?
http://toomuchracing.com/2010/03/09/tmr-game-week-7/
*groan* :)
They were both awesome. Although Bridgestone should take notice of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdtDQ2xIyLQ&feature=related
*applauds* bravo sir :)
I had F1 World GP for the N64, liked the challenges on it
It sounds stunning and I'm insanely jealous! Can I come round?
Ta :)
I'm trying to plug it a bit this week as it is F1 week, then I'll leave it alone 'cos I sense it might be annoying people.
F1 party! :P
frogs??
Yep, that isnt a typo. It had a list of various cheat modes that were ridiculous but oddly brilliant :)
I think that would solve the mechanical grip issue!
They were proper old-school cheat modes!
My brother (because he's cool like this) has pointed out that Thunderbird 3 (the rocket) is controlled by a steering wheel.
Rocket? Steering wheel?
Don't quote me on this but I don't think Gerry Anderson was striving for total realism ;)
Which would also explain why the guy on the space station has a sonic screwdriver....
Good afternoon lovely people
Today, I find out if it's Holiday or Strike
good afternoon folks
the lunchtime break is upon me
:D
Hi Leigh
hi bassano
loved your drunken message on sidepodcast
#nothere #honest
Just found this on Stirling Moss's site. The paragraph at the bottom explains that although Williams made the lift car from carbon fibre they did not make the mechanism or the electrics that operate it so the accident was not the fault of any of their bits.
http://www.stirlingmoss.com/articles/news/press-release-following-stirlings-accident
Huh?
The Joe thing? I've not listened yet, oops
:D
He [or a representative] tweeted as much yesterday - in fewer words, obviously
[Meekly checks out now]
That was pretty funny, forgot all about that
James Allen is on Talk Sport in five mins if anyone's interesting - I wouldn't recommend firing stuff at your radio/computer though.
hehe
Will record it and upload onto drop.io anyways
Hmm.
If you look at the cockpit of most civilian planes, they have "steering wheels" too. Maybe it's to reflect the idea that space flight would become commercial in the near future?
James Allen is on now :)
I am getting worried, as well as Sunday being race day it is Mothers Day. Will I have to go to the mother in laws or my parents, in addition as my daughter is only 4 my wife is expecting me to be pampering to her every desire. Just as well I have Sky+ as I have some grave concerns re seeing the race live without interuption. Is anyone else having similar concerns?
Except the Airbus A320 family which has a joystick
Seriously
Yes - I'll be at my mum's. I had hoped to be at home for the race so I could follow it properly and analyse what was happening with tyre stints, then go over after... but now I'll be there watching with granddad, which is good in itself but I'll have to rewatch on Monday to get the detail.
Really? Is that the Fly By Wire one?
No wonder I always think the flight is bumpy in one of those...
So much for moving the Season start to Bahrain for convenience Bernie!
Autosport has 4 aerial pics of Silverstone's progress:
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13246428 - glorious mud
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13246427 - old pits with missing stands and new MotoGP runoff!
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13246426 - 'arena', and notice the new stands at Luffield..
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13246425 - uh, no idea
My folks are in a different country at the mo, so I have no worries on that front; although they are coming over for my Dad's 65th birthday a few days after.
I'll guess the last one may be the new pit complex at the rear of the circuit?
Too small for the new F1 pits. Could be one on the Stowe circuit.
just because I am really pleased with it... here is my nothing to do with F1 gamboling post today...
http://gamboling.co.uk/2010/03/09/half-birthdays/
Ah Alex: I was trying to find the iPhone external battery thing on Maplin's website [which is terrible]
Think I'll have to head down to Forrest Hill this afternoon
That's the one
All of their subsequent aircraft are I think, A330/340 & A380 [the big double decker]
A little bit of a grumble - the IRL Series just sent me a fan survey about the potential new chassis for 2012 onwards - which is great.
Fan participation is nice and all, but how could I possibly answer multiple choice questions about safety and speed, etc... and then the survey crashed Firefox when loading my answers.
Ughhh...
I have 24hrs from arrival to find a suitable bar in Cape Town to watch the race, luckily I am highly trained in these matters ;)
Alex,
Happy 1/2 Birthday to you and your dad!
Changing the subject I have been trying to reach you but the email address on your business card isn't working, or at least it wasn't the last time I tried. Changing the subject again are there any plans to make Giggles radio a podcast? Or alternatively is there anyway i can download it to my phone / ipod?
Only once have I ever watched a race in a pub - Brazil 2008. It was an... interesting experience.
Anyone considering the new Gorrillaz album needs to think long and hard, really not impressed with it, btw
How long are you going to be in Cape Town for? Will you be in London for the St Paddys day meet up?
I've heard bits of it. Bit of a marmite album so far.
I remember being in a bar in Queensland for Mark Webber's inaugral race back in 2002
James Allen interview on Talksport
Part 1: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/james-allen-part-1-mp3
Part 2: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/james-allen-part-2-mp3
Only heard bits of it, not bad, but nowhere near their best
I've got it on my dropbox if you want to 'try before you buy' ;)
Sadly not
7 nights, leaving London on Friday
Last minute plans, only decided on Sunday
[Cabin Crew Strike permitting]
What a bugger! No doubt you will have a fantastic time, although I guess that depends upon whether it is business or pleasure.
So who is going to the St Paddys night?
Oooooh hope all goes well for you holiday wise Bassano :D
what are the plans for this anyways?
It's a holiday & I'm trying to plan it and leave in 3 days flat :)
Ooooh yay!! Williams have a new website too :)
http://attwilliams.com/
Cheers Alison
There's a Unite announcement expected today
Oh blimey. So you're not going on holiday then? :P
#sorrybassano
At this moment, tickets are booked, ready to pay tonight. Hotel & Car will be booked by tomorrow, if applicable
words can't express how happy I am to see the back of those damn bubbles
I'll be honest, the front video is lacking
the frank one. the preview is very good though!
thanks.
My e-mail address isn't working at the moment Stuart sorry about that... I am hoping to have it fixed by the start of the season.
I am planning on getting the podcasting of the radio show working... especially now that I have solved the technical issues.
Thanks for the reply.
If you still have my business card, when the podcast is up and running please can send me an email to let me know. By the way the email was really just to thank you for allowing me to tag along for the evening with Joe. As you may have read elsewhere I had a great evening.
On a related subject will you be attending the St Paddys do next week, as I see that Bassano won't be there and thus it looks as though there won't be many people I know going!
I guess it really depends if others are going. I have to go to Birmingham on the day and I don't yet know what time I'll be back in London.
Bassano, was there ever a wiki page for this?
No problems, I have the card. I had a great evening too, good to meet you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-6VoHS37Xw
You ALL need to see this.
It's Amazini
On that subject, I will be in London the week after Easter. Who wants to meet at the pub somewhere on the 6th of APril?
I'm literally speechless. Jaw agasp.
I can't decide which is my favourite, they're all too good!
I just got to the end.
I... what is this I don't even...
Stop.
Hammer Time
I can't do a weekday... apart from the 23rd when my plane lands at Gatwick at 5pm!
Melbourne gets the lamest celebrities.
Right....little competition.
First Males name that comes to mind.
GO
Steve
what do i win?
To be fair he does have chills, and they are multiplying. I just hope he doesn't lose control.
happiness
Bob, Eric, Jim, Jon
ooh, too slow. I've got with Ivan ;)
I'm writing customer profiles....
"Ivan is a 30 year old Male Triathlete, he....etc"
No, I was expecting to be here so was co-ordinating on the fly
Tut tut tut poor showing
(I have snuck home from work early :D)
"I'm sure all Australians will be excited to see him at the circuit," Mr Ward said.
He's going to meet every Australian?
All of them?
I don't need a wiki page to visit the pub
Well apparently you do as you appear not to be going....
because he will be so busy meeting every Australian does that mean I don't have to see him? I'm scared he will try and scientologise me.
Well technically, someone else needs a wiki page then ;)
In La La Land, no one can hear you scream [about alien deities]
I would quite like to buy one of these but I am put off by the name....
Looks like Bert, or is it Ernie, not sure
Bert i think
I spend a while writing a table in html, getting it all right (in WP.com) and click on Visual and all is fine, then i click on update and it aaaall disappears. grr
ooh what's all this then?
http://f12010.autosport.com/
i like!
Ooh nice
I've finally finished the transcript I promised you last August: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/episode74-doc
Same as with the first one, when I there was something I didn't understand I put ??? and the time. Also almost all the team names in the Fantasy racers section are probably all wrong.
And I don't know how to spell presumedly, persumedly, persumadly ... (Mr C stop saying that ;))
has there been any speculation re: stuart's mclaren pre-announcement earlier?
@teamSCboard: Mega new look at www.mclaren.com today. And they've got something special planned for Friday...
some kind telemetry things maybe?
is that even a word?
hey, i coulda said "jumpbling" instead ;)
that is fabulous though, cheers kathi x
Presumedly is right :)
Thanks :D
but what the heck does it mean?
presumedly? to presume something?
Ask Mr.C, he uses it aaaall the time. ;)
Presumedly? It's the adverb version of presume.
so it's a real word.
i must've meant presumably?
im not convinced it is...
i read edly as ably
oops
Maybe I shouldn't transcribe in a foreign language. Both word seem the same to me :(
Well presumably is an adjective but much more widely used.
Presumedly is a word.
oh cool.
i'm smarter than i think.
really? i stand corrected, ive never heard it, only presumably
They essentially mean the same thing.
it's good. i'm learning lots about me :)
More than you could ever wish to know: http://www.sanjeev.net/vocabulary/p/p-0797.html
ah-ha.
it's a timing thing innit?
smarter than the average?
Is there anyway on Wordpress editing online to insert a load of images into a post rather than one by one?
Is it not an Adverb?
you can highlight more than one to upload?
Have you never heard of the control or shift button? :P
they both are (I think)
Ah! I've found the option. Excellent.
ooh i read question again.
into post i dont know.
my bad.
I am going to get this wrong but I think it's like, "When Jenson won the World Championship he was presumably happy".
And the other one is like this: "When are you expecting them? Presumedly early."
The first is, "we don't know but we could guess". The second is, "we don't yet know, but we expect".
I think ;)
No worries, what I found only inserts as a gallery. Do not want :(
*does the long way*
Ping!!!! http://wp.me/pHfaV-5v
Present and past tense, is my guess
1) Can you not upload them all
2) open post in 1 window + Media List in the other
3) Drag from one to the other?
Love USF1 + Mr C :D
Heikki should be Beavis but on the whole, very funny
Especially "Mr C"
Could you have got a worse picture of Mario?
Hey y'all
Hi RG
I know but I didn't want to go for the obvious ones all the time :)
I have tested this theory and it does work...
sorry it was a bit late
No worries sir :) I plan to do a part 2 eventually so I'll try that out then!
Alex: have you heard about the 2 day morotsport event at Crystal Palace on May 30/31?
Motorsport At The Palace
http://www.motorsportatthepalace.co.uk/
Bassano, thats an awesome find!
Race Car Engineering tweeted it
It's very near me, Alex & Fourstar
A Short History of Crystal Palace Motor Sport
You just gotta love Vettel:
There has actually been less focus on me. This is all because some old German guy decided to come back
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/mar/09/sebastian-vettel-red-bull-interview
Just had a quick look on youtube for some old footage from Crystal Palace but if you are considering going to the new event this be of more interest
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e12kyWnYAtI
Evening all by the way
Hi Steven
Oh, hurry up and agree something please, I've got places to go:
British Airways and Unite union extend strike talks until Wednesday lunchtime.
Hopefully, this means that good news is still possible
:(
Can't you e-mail them and explain that their little disagreement is causing you problems?
They need their heads knocking together....
This might be a stupid question, but where is East Anglia? Would I want to go to university there?
Norfolk, Suffolk etc. It's the lump that sticks out of the bottom right of England
Oh I see.... Is that a probably not then? :P
I can only find 3 things I would want to apply for. Maybe I could leave the others blank....
I assume this is a possible university
What are you thinking about
I want to do management with accounting I thinks.
Ideally I'd want to go to Glasgow but I can't afford to take the extra year.
With what you have already done and the fact you have been managing people can'you short circuit things and get an MBA? They are very fashionable
Yeah maybe. I'm thinking about it. That looks expensive though. There's nowhere near the same kind of loan support available.
Dear Mr C.:
There's no 'L', in "Raging Nerfherders"!
;)
I thought that might be the problem with that.
I should do that, no reason why it wouldn't work
He's obviously not a Star Wars fan
What's a jumpling?!!! :)
The outtakes would attest to that. I didn't notice it in the finished one until it was too late.
Just missed the live stream of Lisa twitter woman on kiwi radio. Got there just in time to see her leave the studio. I assume it will turn up on youtube sooner or later. I am really curious to hear how she is seeing this experience. She now has 13,000 followers.
I'm off out for dinner and travel talk
Chat soon folks
Bye Bassano
it's ok.
I leapfrogged ahead of him in Fantasy WRC, so it's not too bad ;)
Hello all, just listened to the outtakes, I really don't understand why you don't want to do a live fantasy racers shout out every week ;)
Aaaahh...
Just in the door and prepping a cheap dinner. How is everyone?
Hi Leigh, just finished fish & chips so fine thanks
Hehehe. It would take all week :)
I think if they were going to do that I would enter a team with Nerfhurdlers in the name just to cause havoc
Evening
Ohhh... how very Tuesday.
:D
Evening all :)
There is a free WTCC iPhone app.
http://www.fiawtcc.com/Read_News.asp?idnews=481
I'm not completely sure why you'd want an app for touring cars but there's one there if you want it :)
Oh I have one question: Does the old archive still exist? You know where you had a list of all debrief shows for example. Or did http://sidepodcast.com/category/podcasts/ etc. replace that?
Are you looking for the old year/month archive Kathi?
*falls into the doohickey* hi all.
Lol I can't help but find this funny. There is a team called United Autosports who are racing in the FIA European GT3 Championship with some Audi R8 LMS cars, and they just collected their new cars.
Betting USF1 wish they could of got that far lol
http://twitpic.com/jyio1
Yay you're home :) You alright?
Hello. How was uni? Did you get a degree yet?
Hi lou. Hope your uni interview went well?
ooh Christine I meant to ask you, did you pick up on the #MFC news I mentioned regarding Steam? Thought it might be something for your next podcast.
No-one is going to mistake those cars for anything else
i think i may have injured my shoulder... carrying a v. v. heavy porfolio and a bag full of school books on one arm was not a good idea. 7 hours of travelling is also exhausting. but i'm okay.
I was looking for episode 65. I used to go to the archives, choose debrief and scroll down until episode 65. What's the best way to find it now? #isstupid
Type episode 65 into the search box.
I must have missed that.
Thats for sure, isn't exactly the best looking R8 LMS I've seen!
Will find the comment with the super duper search :)

oh. :)

Easy peasy!
hehehehe the interview went really well! The most exciting part though was meeting the 3rd year student who was showing us around. He's 20, and is a motorsport photographer!! he lives near silverstone and manages to get to some of the away f1 and wtcc races too. He loved my motorsport work and gave me his business card. He said he'd be around if i wanted to ask questions or maybe go to races. all in all, a good day.
plus i love cornwall...
Excellent, thanks :)
Im sure it's impossible not to go to cornwall and fall in love with it, especially with the weather like it was :)
Sounds like you had a great time. By the time you leave uni he should be working for someone and be able to recommend you
Also McLaren have tarted up their site and there are some videos with the drivers that I have n't seen before
http://mclaren.com/home
Wooohooo Lou :D
that's what i'm hoping. i'm also hoping he'll give me a bit of advice and things :)
:D
Good stuff Lou
:D
How long is he planning on staying there?
he's in his last year of his BA i believe.
You're doing better than me! I wrote out a big list of places I can go to do courses I like but I don't like the look of any of the places. I'm fancying Manchester atm I think....
Don't automatically rule out East Anglia unless you decide you want to study climate and environment as they slightly dented their reputation on that recently
That's fantastic!
i found it all feels alot more real when you actually go take a look round the uni itself :) am almost looking forward to my next interview on monday.
oh and i found out that they rejected loooooaadds of people after they submitted their mini projects, and there are about 60-70 of us wanting one of the 43 places available. i'm just pleased i got this far :)
I have a huuuuuge list at the moment but nowhere is very appealing. I really like Bristol for example but it's very expensive to live there for example and it's miles from anywhere!
I quite like Leeds.
Lisa twitter woman and Leo on Kiwi radio
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilJ6uFr4MmY
That sounds like they are confident that all of you can produce the work so now they are assessing you as people.
Carl Edwards was put on probation for 3 races. Weak. No ban, no fine. Crazy.
in the Twitter words of Kevin Harvick..
i'm thinkging about asking for a refund for all of my penalties!!!!
and Kyle Busch..
Me too! Let me kno how that goes. Lmao. RT @KevinHarvick: i'm thinkging about asking for a refund for all of my penalties!!!!
Visiting is super fun! Choosing medicine unis was way way easier. There are only 20 and the courses are so different you can basically choose on the basis of that. I'm liking this less....
He should have been banned for the rest of the season
well there were only 4 interviews going on today, and all 4 of us got on really well. :) lets hope for the best.
oh and the student i met was Tom Dymond
I think he should've been parked for a few races. But anyway, these people work in Showbiz not racing.
Kyle Petty:
For me I am deeply saddened by the decision that #NASCAR made on this issue. I love this Business, will always support it, but not this...
I am sure you will be fine
Remember how according to his tweets, Jonathan Summerton was going to be in F1 this year?
He's revised his goals.
Still searching for sponsors to do GP3 any1 no any1? It runs with F1
When the gree flag drop the bull**** stops. Unfortunately until then we are knee deep in it
ooh, cheers.
Sounds like she is loving the experience and Leo said he would pay any expenses she incurred from this
I knew he would do the right thing!
Did you enjoy your day then Lou? Did they give you any idea of when you'd hear back?
She has offers from marketing people and even a proposal form someone
Glad like you had a good time lou, hope you hear soon, the waiting is the killer. After yesterday's help I'm now on Skype with a microphone, just rang my Mum and got her answerphone! Hopefully all will be OK, I just need to keep away from Steven ;)
Mwhahaha
ah, good to hear!
the uni part of it was awesome!! :) no they weren't sure... shouldn't be too long.
I wasn't going to mention Lola's press release today, they gave a few more details about their IRL proposal and a couple more angles, but on the whole nothing new really.
That was until I spied they'd copied my tweet.. :)
http://www.lola-group.com/newsstory.asp?NewsId=204
Garbage, utter garbage. It is now officially the circus!!
I think USF1 was his only shot.
So... was there any F1 news at all today?
All I can see is something from Bridgestone saying Sauber will be kind to their tyres (but surely missing that they'll struggle to get temperature?), and McLaren backing the new teams.
You are so influential
Vettel named his car, that's about all I got.
It always was
hah, hardly
Aww, I was enjoying that story as well.
Bit late, but sounds like some good stuff there lou!
I may have to update my NASCAR rant on the site
holy cow! coooool
Oooh, very nice.
Awe-some!
We'll have to see - last year's characteristics seemed to be that if you were kind on your tyres you sometimes couldn't get them to work (Brawn's problems). But that was without the extra fuel weight and we don't know how that'll change things.

I know this comment from Gavin was ages ago but I'm up for London on 6th April.
I didn't realise McLaren had 8 drivers in their young driver program including Jan Magnussen's son. It seems like yesterday since Jan Magnussen was going to be the next great racing driver and now his son has a McLaren contract
Works a little better with a link
http://mclaren.com/drivers/young-driver-programme
O.M.G!! how did i only just notice this!! - http://www.virginracing.com/get-involved/68/
now i need to go to some f1 events...
You need to get to an event or find a way of getting pics related to the team outwith a race weekend. Shame the team isn't nearer you
something tells me i'm going to be very interested in that team for a bit... i wonder if it's too late to fly to bahrain ;)
Bassano was looking for someone to go somewhere with him on one of his trips. Maybe he would like to take you there
hahaha come the summer i'll be going to every race i can (maybe not f1.. but BTCC etc)..
think i'll be doing some F3 and WSR if i can get out cheap enough
:)
monza f1 is a possibility
You need to go to a few different circuits just to get experience of different types of corners and different viewing positions
indeed! come the summer i'll be going to Brands, Silverstone, Snetterton..
You will probably pass Thruxton and Castle Combe on the journey to Cornwall
yay for hopefully a motorsport packed summer :D
Evening all!
Don't forget Spa and Goodwood!
It may be too soon but I was thinking of doing BTCC Thruxton - but of a journey for Lou though
*bit
not as far as Falmouth :D
Is there not a hillclimb in Cornwall? Something in the back of my brain says there is.
There is a championship. A mix of hillclimbs and sprints. Sprints are just hillclimbs without the hill.
http://www.cornishspeedchampionship.co.uk/calendar.htm
i'm not going all the way to cornwall for a hillclimb... unless it's awesome. i'm actually shattered and would cost lots. If i get a place.... then... :D
I was thinking if you were at uni in Cornwall. It is a long way from Cornwall to a circuit so this gives you an easier way to get some motor sport pics
Space stuff on BBC 2. Some new theory on life, the universe and everything.
oo :) nice thinking.
Found a site that lists all the race circuits, hillclimbs etc in the country
http://www.ukmotorsport.com/uk_speed.html
oooo *bookmarks*
You also need to get your hands on the little red book that goes in the first issue each year of a certain MAGAZINE
ipod is now on a truck. I hope I am near the top of the delivery list
Is it not kind of early for you to be awake?
i may have one of those... i'm not sure.
Mum just mentioned that i should try and do some things at Lydden circuit. I had absolutely no idea there was a track closer to us than Brands! *googles....*
Steven how do you know so much about everything?? I hope someone gives you the appreciation you deserve....
Steven needs to come to Spa, then we can all buy him lots of drinks to say thank you for being so knowledgeable and helpful :)
McLaren bought it at one time with the plan to move their factory there so they would have a test track on their doorstep. It is best known for rallycross so you should get some variety there
I know stuff. It's what I do. Remembering it can be a problem though.
I second that. In fact, I'll buy the first round!
Just checked the Lydden calendar. There is a press day on April 1st for the launch of the British Rallycross championship. There is even a link to apply for accreditation.
http://www.lyddenhill.co.uk/calendar.php
They really could have picked a better date for that.
Steven is really a datacentre on the internet. Started in 1954.
you're coming to Spa right?? (the correct answer is yes)
Wooo.
My camera is still in HK :-(
:(
I'd love to. Money is stupidly tight though.
ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/09/introducing-the-factbyte-factbox/
:(
if not Spa, come to Goodwood!! :)
Also oh my word!!
Doohickey/my computer was misbehaving and I opened ye olde comments and i'd really like to say how amazing they are now.....
Bravo Mr C!
1954???? I am only 27. I may have been 27 for a few years but not that many
Don't know yet
i was just looking at that :)
i'm on holiday that day too!! :) awesome..
i am always awake early these days, new role comes with 730am starts :D
Nice find
I'm not sure that's the sort of thing that really interests me hugely. I'd go if Nick went....
You are confusing age with the number of terrabytes stored.
NICK!!!
NIIIICCCCKKK!!!! take Alison to Spa or Goodwood. ;)
I'm particularly loving the amazing swooshy pending comments loading. It's super awesome!
Or both! :)
I think staying at 27 is a good idea, I may join you
Perfect. Lets you get used to talking to drivers and teams when they are there to talk rather than race
Poor Nick. I think it's perhaps a little far away....
Goodwood is an awesome event
I have never found a good reason to be 28
Steven you should come too! in fact everyone should come... :)
Also he's not to be woken up. He's given himself a supercold by drinking cough syrup straight out the bottle.....
Agreed - 28 is massively overrated.
Wasn't Berger #28?
So was Ivan Capelli
At Ferrari yes.
and Pironi
Well OK. Who partnered Senna as #28 in the Mclaren MP4/5b?
Aye and Pironi was rather good too
Good evening from Milton Keynes.
a supercold? is that like man flu?
Evening. Sounds like a eurovision greeting :)
"May I say you look lovely tonight"
which reminds me the Eurovision will be on in a few months!!
#sparklytrousers
Yep, that was Berger as well.
28 is not so bad.
I forgot about Prost taking number one to Ferrari
grrrrrrrr
Its in May sometime. I don't know that I'll be getting wine again, I was quite merry. :) I remember having much fun here and on twitter talking about it and the indy qualifying :)
I know the British singoff is on the 12th...
You forgot? Reboot needed. ;-)
It was a good laugh last year, hehe.
27 - Jones, Gilles, Senna
28 - Berger, Capelli, Pironi.
Not much of a competition
Dear Santa
Please send my some Spa money. I've been a super good girl. I promise.
Lots of Love
Alison x
Well, regardless of the dispute between himself and Villeneuve, he was a very good driver. He may not have had the speed or worn his emotions as much, but he won races.
Anyway, back to the number 28......
:D
I remember being 28.......
I've got lots of 28 left to go, but I start to remember 28
Anyone want to hear Leigh's odd fact for the day?
Crofty is on Twitter! But he's protected his tweets :(
big thanks to Toby Moody for tweeting about it
http://twitter.com/CroftyF1
yaaaayyy!!!! just need to get Ant on twitter now and all is perfect :D hehe oh and get some more f1 photographers on there too ;)
Is kafaffel spelled kafaffel?
It might be. Unless it's spelled kerfuffle
Kerfuffle is the usual spelling
What is the context Kathi?
thanks :)
Gascoyne and Kolles were having one :D
i cant imagine transcribing in a language that isnt my first. Kathi, you are a machine.
That's a kerfuffle then
Yay for F1 Badger!
http://twitpic.com/17ir7k {Comment #96}
Well done, F1 Badger :)
And Lukeh, obviously :D
hooray i have picked up an extra shift for saturday 20th. Come to me, extra Spa money! I need to be careful with my Saturdays from now on though, i would hate to accidentally work through some f1.
Alex, where is the best place to buy your book from? I think my sister would like it and it is her birthday soon..
The sidepodcast Amazon shop
I am getting worried, as well as Sunday being race day it is Mothers Day. Will I have to go to the mother in laws or my parents, in addition as my daughter is only 4 my wife is expecting me to be pampering to her every desire. Just as well I have Sky+ as I have some grave concerns re seeing the race live without interuption. Is anyone else having similar concerns? {Comment #159}
My parents are F1 supporters, so freeing Sunday morning of interruptions is the least of my worries (Mum likes watching the exciting bits and finds the engines soothing sounds to sleep to when it gets processional and Dad likes F1 too much to make a visit to his Mum clash).
Figuring out what to get Mum is my big conundrum, but hopefully something will come to me by the time the weekend comes round.
Thought it might be. There doesn't appear to be a link at the bottom of the page so I found it using the search :)
http://astore.amazon.co.uk/sidepodcast-21
http://astore.amazon.co.uk/sidepodcast-21?node=1&page=1
Found the link eventually
You beat me. I failed with search then typed amazon into the url and found the links I used before
Time for me to head off and watch a DVD in bed, night everyone
oops! i best sort that.
night sir.
night
ooh mr c the links to posts in mobile doohickey is working properly again. Thanks!
i think i may have missed quite a lot of comments these past few days :(
good stuff. it's not quite perfect across the whole site, but i'll keep working on it.
New rule: every time a Cool New Feature (tm) is launched, have time off in the comments.
Night
it was kind of a necessity.
on the other hand... my lord i can be productive when i turn them off.
#confidential
also, don't tell christine... but we kind of have a countdown on the site.
#blamelou
Fair enough.
Can I just say.. it is really weird listening to your voice(s) on a Debrief while you're posting away here now. I keep forgetting you aren't live.
i commented that i saw it in fbfb earlier :D ehehehehe
mwahahaha ;)
hehe!
the good news is, with fbfb now out of the door. live server work can begin as soon as bahrain is done.
it's staring at me!
Yeah but we're within a reasonable time now :)
even i do can do two days planning i guess.
Oh my gosh. I'm loving Southampton university. They have an online open day #MFC
I can only find 3 things I would want to apply for. Maybe I could leave the others blank.... {Comment #286}
You certainly can leave the others blank if you want. When I did my UCAS application, there were only four advertised courses in the subject I wanted to do that were feasible from a logistical perspective. So there were two blank spaces on my application...
Do you know roughly how long it will take?
By the way, I had an interview for a job as a receptionist this afternoon. It went well despite a lack of computers, but there are 67 applicants for around 25 "second interview" slots... ...and ultimately 1 job. I'm not exactly spending the first month's wages yet!
Mind you, I'm still happy because I found a Formula 1 Yearbook 2003-2004 in a second-hand shop after the interview. So I can get my fill of nostalgia at least...
How did you go from Manchester to Southampton?
how's that work then?
I didn't say I wanted to go there.... I'm enjoying them having a useful website though. It's a rarity!
They are doing 25 second interviews for one job? That is insane. Interviewing 67 in the first place is crazy. I assume this is government related
:D
Well it appears to be that they've made all the presentations given available online as well as some virtual tours. Their website is a shining example to others though. Everything I've wanted, I've been able to find. There's a lot of very useful information. I might email them and tell them this! It would probably make someone very happy....
I am absolutely shattered and my shoulder aches a lot. Time to get to sleep i think, school in the morning (booo!!) night all! xx
p.s can i go back to falmouth please?
Why don't all the sidepodstudents get together and go to the same uni? That would make uni life really interesting
Night Lou
Cool. No hurry, live shows are great but the offline recording are good too. I can't always spare the 2hrs on a Sunday after sitting watching F1 for so long :)
Good luck!
good question. we've managed to find a similar service to our existing amazon setup but with half price bandwidth. that's good news because our bank balance has enjoyed the break.
the cheaper option doesn't allow us to stream to iphones though, which would be my streaming nirvana. something that just works everywhere.
i would guess 7-10 days to get things sorted from when we start... so australia gp weekend. maybe. it is now topper most of the list.
I was expecting weeks or months
night
have you got a link?
hopefully not. malaysia must be the worst-case scenario i'd guess.
i'm pretty sure christine wants to start "factboxing" now.
better than infowrestling
what in the world?
:D
I'm just being silly
oooh! i like it though. that should be something.
Dodgins has an interesting preview.
On Rosberg:
From Kazuki to Michael... You can almost see the smile on some of those Williams faces. Some of them think he'll get murdered. If he's close though, it will be a feat nobody else has managed.

I assume
http://www.southampton.ac.uk/
i get where he's coming from, but the word he's missing is "consistently". rubens and massa got close... when they were allowed to.
the interview went really well! The most exciting part though was meeting the 3rd year student who was showing us around. He's 20, and is a motorsport photographer!! he lives near silverstone and manages to get to some of the away f1 and wtcc races too. He loved my motorsport work and gave me his business card. He said he'd be around if i wanted to ask questions or maybe go to races. all in all, a good day.
plus i love cornwall... {Comment #329}
That is awesome! I'm glad you had such a great time and found a kindred spirit.
that is nice. i like.
He said Massa couldn't handle MS but was fast enough to earn his respect. I have wondered if the 'all new MS' will do things differently, I would assume not.
its here! Silly courier took it to upper ground reception instead of level 13 where i can actually be found.
They are doing 25 second interviews for one job? That is insane. Interviewing 67 in the first place is crazy. I assume this is government related {Comment #511}
The "67 in the first place" might be government-related, but I doubt it - I got put through despite not meeting the minimum experience criteria, possibly due to having a lot of qualifications in the relevant areas.
The "25 for the second interview" almost certainly isn't. It's probably more to do with the fact that they couldn't spend as long as they wanted with us due to an unanticipated computer-related problem taking up most of the support staff members' time (I offered to help, but it was decided that confidentiality rules made me going near the system a bad idea). I know I got only half the time I was allocated to have in the interview as a result of this. My guess is the staff will weed out the obviously unsuitable and call back everyone else when they are able to give them their undivided attention. 25 is the most they can reasonably call back without stretching to a second day.
Why don't all the sidepodstudents get together and go to the same uni? That would make uni life really interesting {Comment #515}
It would, of course, have to be an online university with possible "residentials" at selected motorsport-related events, because anything else wouldn't be #MFC enough for Sidepodcast ;)
Actually, that would make an interesting project...
...
...
...what is?
I can't believe this - someone's actually done a "how-to" for setting up a university, albeit an American one...
Amy spent all her spa money on a new ipod....
biggy, piccy, pluggy: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/09/way-back-when/
I can't imagine ever doing more than 7 or 8 first interviews for one position. The cost of 65 interviews is horrific
Good luck! {Comment #518}
Thank you, Pat!
Yeah blimey, you're telling me!! How does anyone have time for that?? Have they hired some sort of recruitment consultant?
Never thought I'd be so glad to see a Ferrari. That's how F1 cars should look :(
..and has been tracking it in the comments since it departed the depot (in Sydney?)
seconded. i really like the marlborough, oddly.
ahhh, yes. ace.
i said i missed a lot :)
in fairness it was only yesterday. or this morning. timezones confuse me
They definitely have been super efficient.
was it apple direct? they're flippin, flippin amazing.
All I can tell is that it appears to have been less than 24 hours from order to desk!
I can't imagine ever doing more than 7 or 8 first interviews for one position. The cost of 65 interviews is horrific {Comment #542}
You're right, most private sector companies would do no more than 8 first interviews (and I remember my last placement provider groaning because they wanted to pick between two candidates whose applications were expected and then got an unexpectedly good candidate from left field, increasing the first interviewees to 3...
Public sector organisations don't get that luxury, especially if they're attempting to get the "two ticks" disability certification and have to answer to many different sets of bureaucrats.
The cost of 65 interviews, in my estimation, is the entire energy of one person for 2 days, plus about 250 sheets of paper. When some of the invitees don't turn up (like the candidate due to be interviewed after me), that must be really frustrating...
we ordered some iphone chargers from them on sunday... they arrived this morning.
i didn't know we were tracking apple goods, i'd have joined in.
Yeah blimey, you're telling me!! How does anyone have time for that?? Have they hired some sort of recruitment consultant? {Comment #544}
If they have, they didn't drop any hints to that effect. I got the impression it was the support staff attempting to make the best of an awkward set of circumstances.
lord above!
So who is doing their job while they're busy breaking the photocopier....
So who is doing their job while they're busy breaking the photocopier.... {Comment #557}
They couldn't do their job because the computers weren't working. If they had been, the individual might have been a bit stuck.
Hello,
Getting hyped for the new season, sorting out my fantasy team.
Does anyone know who Alonso's Race Engineer will be this year? Looked online and can't fine the info anywhere. Stella?
Cheers.
that's a great question richard. autosport forum (quoting TS) says stella:
http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=116946&view=findpost&p=3971973
Thanks for the link. Only a few days left until we'll know for sure. :D
Hopefully Alonso will be the catalyst that removes the Clown shoes Ferrari have been wearing the last two years.
