The 9th June is the date that Johnny Depp was born, and Charles Dickens died. I do not think the two events were related, but that is just a bit of useless trivia to start your day off well. As it turns out, Sidepodcast has been distracted from all things F1 with all things Apple, so here's a couple of things to redress the balance:
- Max Mosley has suggested that FOTA should enter for 2010 without conditions and that way they can help to shape the future of F1. It's funny, because I'm pretty sure he was ignoring anything they suggested previously, so why would it be any different?
- McLaren have admitted that Lewis will never be able to defend his title this year (see F1 Big Picture) and at the same time, Christian Horner has said the gap between Red Bull and Brawn GP is just too big to make any kind of dent. Looks like Turkey was the sad realisation for everyone!
- We must have missed the official announcement that Force India have been suspended from FOTA, but Vijay Mallya says he wants back in. He thinks their situation is very different to Williams in that they have been open and honest with the association throughout. But can FOTA really treat the two situations differently?
That'll do it for now. Don't feel constrained by anything I've mentioned above. The daily posts are your place to discuss what's on your mind. Yes, even the new iPhone. I'll see you in the comments.
Vijay is delusional if he thinks their situation is any different to Williams. They both signed agreements and made commitments then ran back to Max breaking all those agreements. Clearly any commitment either of them makes is worthless.
I think Vijay is making headlines to try to look good back home
Am attempting a Safari install
Back soon
[Updating Time Machine first, natch]
Vijay is talking more in hope than expectation. He had no choice, but then FOTA didn't really have a choice either. Suspension through frustration.
Folk aren't digging the Daily today, huh?
Me likey so far :D
do ya find it to be fast?
I do indeed, very
What is all this matrix code you have posted?
:P
something that's just occurred to me...
can now add a tweetdeck style "new comment ping" to doohickey, for safari 4 users.
question is, would anyone want one?
Aye, if switchable
absolutely. in-browser audio is suddenly very easy to achieve.
Have gotten quite used to DD but a separate window is just as easy
true, but AIR uses safari webkit, so it'll can up soon.
Only if successive pings are at different pitches, with the result that frequent posts play "the Chain"
*catch.
:D :P
Well, my Montreal flights have now been confirmed. Sadly, I don't know whether I should still go with all this financial uncertainty in the aviation industy right now :(
How good would that be :)
something else happened?
Just lots of doom and gloom floating around
Other stuff related to staff that probably isn't meant for the public arena
Is also why I haven't broached 'the visit' subject yet. Tough times at the mo, need for focus and all that
no rush on that front, sir.
Will probably be post season at some point
If they are receptive, I'll chat with preferred timescales nearer the time
no worries. canada will likely also still be there next year, no?
Of course, tis a waste to give up (nearly) free tickets though
Silly mentality, I know. Other expenses are involved. But...
This was going to be a long weekender with a mate, haven't done that in a while.
If I have to start saving now, am still doing proper hols around Oct/Nov
Cheers :D
I have been thinking of doing proper political analysis on what's happening, instead of the usual f1 journo approach or report and hypothesise. It might be a lot of work though, i will think about it.
Apple love is a bad thing sometimes
Now I want an shiny MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard and am already thinking of which day to book off to avoid the weekend queues for new iPhone
terrible isn't it? i'm busy playing with html5 changes.
So, have updated my machine. Now have shiny new Safari 4.
Good: Tabs back in the right place, no longer breaking the OS look/feel.
Wow it's fast.
Bad: Adverts! Also miss the drop down list of RSS articles that Firefox provides.
I still don't really know what that is but accept that it's going to be a good thing
Have a feeling I'm going to be saying "You've gone all html again" quite a lot soon :D
You don't use Adblock?
it's hard to explain unless you have an iphone. but basically, if you look at this page:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/video/
you'll currently see a bunch of question marks on the iphone and/or g1. because neither handsets support flash. same thing happens for audio podcasts currently showing on the homepage. just a bunch of question marks.
however... unless you've suffered this issue, nothing i'm doing now will make any difference.
Lots of smart phone goodness to come then
For Safari?
I think Joe said it best in the most recent Aside about Vijay. If he's jumped the FOTA ship, he's on his own in the water along with Williams. Making it rather bizarre to claim that he's still onboard.
I don't see how Force India's situation is any different than Williams. Regardless of the details, they both had extenuating obligations that forced them to break ranks from FOTA.
Yup
the other thing announced relates to live video streaming. although info on that is thin on the ground, i think it'll mean we can broadcast all live shows to the iphone, so if you're out on a sunday evening, you should still be able to stream it over 3g.
http://burgersoftware.com/en/safariadblock
That's how I see it
details please, need those ads blocked
Now we need to convince Boris to put 3G on the tube ;)
Linked below, was running in Beta just fine and have seen no issues so far in 4.0 proper.
Not as great as FF3 AB+ but pretty darn good
http://burgersoftware.com/en/safariadblock
Thanks. Now I need some sites to test it on.
http://www.macrumors.com/
Keynote address now available
that must be a record.
Hmm. Had to insert name/mail on realtime page after restart of Safari
Am guessing they're expecting a big demand, still evening in states, strike while the iron's hot
I didn't
did it clear your cookies? that's all it uses.
Hang on, didn't on LCLT
DD not affected
Thank you Apple for the new tab button, been missing that
The + never felt right
OK. Adblock is mostly working. Still don't like the RSS handling.
Right, enough of this. Goodnight all.
G'night Andy, busy day for you tomorrow. Lot's of Q's no doubt
Will go to bed myself now, dreaming of Aluminium 'puters and Leopards in the Snow
night sir.
Hey Le Mans is this weekend, isn't it?
it is and we're live commenting the whole thing. will you be joining us?
Would be delighted to. SPEEDTV is covering 19 hrs of it, so I'll be watching most of
good stuff. apparently we're running shifts to cover everything!
I cannot wait. I am basically just going to be bouncing around the house with all the TV's on SPEED.
Speaking of which Mr. C... what are you doing up this late? already training for the overnight session of LeMans?
am going now. catch ya all tomorrow peoples ;)
How many of you are going to Silverstone. I spent the past weekend lamenting the fact that I could have been in a soldout Circuit Gilles Villeneuve instead of watching Turkey. Anyone else notice that the stands were almost never shown in the broadcast
Yet to try that one. Last week, they seemed to be working fine. Anyway, if not too late, I dropioed what I do get. Otherwise goodnight.
I know you are all asleep now but I will put in my 2 cents:
I don't think I would advise Safari on Windows, it is not good.
Both Firefox and Chrome are options. Firefox generally works well, although I had weird things happen with the Doohickey for a while over the weekend. A couple of reloads and it come good.
With Chrome, you can bookmark the Doohickey as an "application". That is what I am running right now. It's a great solution, and I haven't had any problems yet, although the browser is still one of those Google "beta" products.
doohickey works fine in Opera too although Opera itself seems to have more issues than it used to have.
The first year I had a proper chance to watch Le Mans, not just a one hour highlight package, was I think the first year of the R8's I remember one of the cars had gearbox trouble so the car came into the pits and straight into the garage the mechanics went to work and removed the rear end and put the new on in about 4 minutes, Alain de Cadenet was giddy as a little school girl while he was watching this from outside the garage.
That year Speed showed the whole 24 hours and I managed to catch 19 hours of it. Hope to do that much this year as well.
Last year was the first in a long time - it's not shown AT ALL in NZ - stupid country!
http://martinhaven.wordpress.com/2009/06/08/sarthe-bound-again/
Martin Haven's take on Le Mans... I'm leaving in two days - can't effing wait!!! :D
Martin Haven! He's a cool commentator, especially when he's on duty for GP2 or British F3. I only hear him now in F2 and WTCC...
and when he rants on MWM ;)
Ahhh, yes, that's true. :)
Le Mans 24 Hours and F3 Masters happen on the same weekend? The formerly-named Marlboro Masters isn't what it once was, though.
Where is the Masters this year? In fairness, an F3 driver shouldn't be at Le Mans anyway!
Zandvoort - hasn't it always been held there?
I thought it had changed this year?
Really? Lemme check...
Was at Zolder for 07 and 08, coming back to Zandvoort for 09.
I guess they only hold them at circuits starting with the letter Z. ;)
Cool. My Dutch friend tells me they have to have restricted running days at Zandvoort because of noise complaints ... from people who moved next to a circuit! Dummys!
I think most courts listen to the dummies rather than the circuits now. Some other circuits (some big, some small) have been forced by the courts to restrict running days due to noise.
Croft is one that springs to mind. My local speedway in NZ was like that too - in the middle of a deserted valley and when the people started moving in, they couldn't operate past 10:30...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75957
Wow - Petter's the man!
What a debut! Whatever happens to him in powerboating, he'll be remembered as a hero. :)
maybe I missed something but looks like there was not too much talk about Mosley's letter here ...
We talked about it a bit last night. It sounds enticing, but unless Max can prove to FOTA they can trust him, most don't see it changing anything.
well, if I were FOTA rep, I would request Max to disclose to me the names of selected 3 new entries. then I would contact them and get some idea how the see FOTA's proposals. Depending on outcome of that talk I would make my decision....
that makes some sense, and would fulfill the condition we're looking for. but has max even made the decision as to which 3 new teams he'd admit whatever happens?
Was not the gist of Mosley's letter that if FOTA want their own rules, they should sign up unconditionally agreeing to the budget cap so it could be discussed later? Not only is he telling them to compromise by just giving in but is even telling them which set of regulations they need to choose.
He also observes that the rules can not be changed without the consent of all entrants including the new ones, yet the existing rules for 2010 were introduced against the wishes of all ten current teams!
This is actually correct in the sense that once you're signed up for 2010, any changes to the rules have to be agreed by all entrants (which should be via the F1 Commission). Max is playing on a loophole here - since he was introducing rules for 2010, which teams hadn't formally signed up for yet, he's effectively telling them that he could do what he did because FOTA hadn't committed to 2010 yet (as the agreement with FOM isn't really Max's concern but Bernie's). Whether this interpretation of Max is correct, however, is up for debate.
Did you? All I saw was excitement over WWDC ;)
I remember commenting about it before I slept - which must have been before WWDC, as I slept just as Alex mentioned he was rushing home to catch it.
Or was it early this morning (which would've been after WWDC your time)? Hmmm... Either way, I remember it was mentioned in some shape or form...
Sidepodtime = all the time!
:D
I think he knows very well what teams are real teams and which ones are those paper tigers :-)
true - there's lots of paper tigers, but i still see 5 serious entries - USF1, Prodrive, Lola, Campos, and Litespeed/Lotus. These 5 need some serious vetting to see which 3 really deserves to get through whatever happens.
What about Oops-a-daisy You-Shady-lady?
Epsilon? They may be serious, but I would group them with this group. Why did USF1 discard them in the first place?
I find JA's blog post interesting: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/06/08/frank-and-ross-two-perspectives-on-a-crisis/
Why is Frank so supportive of Max? I understand Brawn's position completely though - you don't bite the hand that feeds, etc...
Who says USF1 discarded them and not the other way around?
Epsilon have everything in place to build an F1 car so why are they not serious?
I'm guessing he trusts Max more than he does LDM and the manufacturers. Better the devil you know...
I don't know. My gut feel with them is that they have the technical expertise, but not the financial backing...
If Max hasn't made the selection yet he can always pass to FOTA shortlist that includes 5 names :-)
other than USF1 perhaps all these teams will need support of existing F1 team to pull it off without being 10 secs of the pace. So some sort of agreement with current FOTA gang will probably be necessary for these guys.
not necessarily. if FOTA aren't in F1 2010, there's no cars to be 10secs ahead of him. i guess you can say Williams and FI will still whoop them, but those 2 teams should be enough to share their expertise with the rest.
other interesting part of Mosley's letter is this:
"Also, the FIA will need to know who to discuss the draft with. There will certainly be new teams in 2010 and it presently seems unlikely that all of the 2009 teams will participate in 2010. Obviously the draft should be discussed between those that will participate only."
He is obviously still hoping that FOTA will sign up at the end, but at the same time expects some casualties ...
Force India is getting the expertise from McLaren :-)
I think anyone like Lola, Dallara, Prodrive and Oops-a-daisy who are already building race cars can be considered serious...
Unlikely isn't impossible. I think that line is a ploy on Max's part to scare those who think they're vulnerable to sign up and secure a spot. Besides, since FOTA's is an en masse entry, he'd have to accept all 8 and not leave anyone out...
And USF1?
And we know that ain't going to happen...
I'm still not convinced.
being serious is one thing, having the know how and having the money to compete is another. Lola failed 12 years ago when F1 was much cheaper adventure than it is these days. And even budget capped 40 mil is still seriosu cash ... Well, not enough to buy Kaka, but still, serious money
unless he knows about some that do not plan to enter anyway ...
Isn't Kaka worth more than the entire Superleague 'Formula' grid? :D
Is it safe to come back now?
italian tv gave me that story on sunday. i assumed you guys already knew so i never mentioned it?
the only ones i could see doing that now are Toyota and Renault. But seeing as they've agreed to enter a 200M-total bond with each other, as well as Ferrari and Merc, i don't think there's anyone else dropping out.
Why did you go away?
Fanboys...
i thought that was already mentioned here on sunday?
Macboys? :P
Actually - thats the wrong word...
Zealots? Deciples?
Ah yes. Same here. Blog post got mostly finished and the wife appreciated it too ;)
depends what is the bond for. not to split from FOTA during the negotiations, or not to leave F1 ... how can the teams guranatee on behalf of mother company that the bosses in Tokyo or Paris or Munich or Stuttgart will not pull the plug ?
beats me. i was just reading the daily threat title thingy. i wasn't around here on sunday until well after the race
i think it's not to split from FOTA. but if they leave F1, aren't they effectively leaving FOTA as well? as for the financial guarantee, that is indeed a good point.
yes of course they would leave FOTA, but what I meant is that this bond may be basically only there to assure all the manufacturers are on the same page during the current negotiations.
i don't think so, but we'll see.
Hello everyone.
Good Morning!
Can Giggles fix it so that my roast is cooked now? I'm hungry.
good afternoon
How many of you are going to Silverstone. {Comment #65}
I'm coming (Copse E terrace and Hamilton Fields). If you want to come and don't have tickets, I suggest you order them very quickly because the BBC commentators said the event was almost sold out - a poor performance by Silverstone's previous standards, a good one by the standards of 2009 F1 ticket sales.
Depends if Jackie Stewart wants me there I guess?
Hey Alia,
I made some small tweeks to your Fuel Fing - I added some VB code and changed the time format to minutes and seconds. Shall I drop.io it later or would you like me to send it directly to you when I get home?
This is actually correct in the sense that once you’re signed up for 2010, any changes to the rules have to be agreed by all entrants (which should be via the F1 Commission). Max is playing on a loophole here - since he was introducing rules for 2010, which teams hadn’t formally signed up for yet, he’s effectively telling them that he could do what he did because FOTA hadn’t committed to 2010 yet (as the agreement with FOM isn’t really Max’s concern but Bernie’s). Whether this interpretation of Max is correct, however, is up for debate. {Comment #92}
Minardi tried that in 2005 because the F1 Commission wasn't involved in the 2005 rule changes and Minardi would have preferred to start the year with the 2004 cars (which technically weren't banned by the letter of the regulations because the F1C hadn't met to discuss them). It didn't work because Max threatened the Australian courts with revoking all FIA sporting activities when Paul Stoddart took the case there. Paul ended up withdrawing his case for the sake of Australian motor sport, even though threatening a court is itself illegal on the grounds of obstruction of justice. So this is purely a trick.
This interpretation (which by the way is not what Max did) is valid, but Max's behaviour is likely to make it invalid.
I made some small tweeks to your Fuel Fing - I added some VB code and changed the time format to minutes and seconds. {Comment #138}
You might as well drop.io it - my computer can't load a spreadsheet with VB code without locking up, so I can't check what you've done.
Sounds like you've made an improvement to the spreadsheet nonetheless :)
Well we'll see - I just added a drop-down box to pick the Circuit for ease - but you may not like it. Your sheet is brilliant, I just tweaked it to suit my analyses...
And of course, the same goes for the annual F1R subscribers quiz at Whittlebury Hall, hosted by yrs truly...
FOTA plans to reply to Mosley about his letter by the close of play today Autosport says - http://bit.ly/12RAxo
Is it a fiendishly difficult quiz?
Now there's a quiz I could sink my teeth into... if I was there, of course. :(
The FIA and FOTA love it when we wait for their every move, don't they? :-/
:D
looks like it moved from poker game to game of chess :-)
it's always been both... :)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8090633.stm
Is it good or bad news if Setanta goes bust? What would happen to something like GP2 or SuperLeague on TV?
First time out it was, because I expected everyone to be hardcore fans. But there were complaints that it was too hard. There are always two or three teams who know absolutely everything while everyone else struggles a bit. So the majority is easy-to-moderate, and then at the end (following the inevitable four-way tie for the win) a series of sudden death stinkers.
you would have to go online and search for a feed :-)
Me like death stinkers - I live on those every quiz night! :D
That would be difficult if nobody took on the rights though!
As long as they keep Australian Rugby league, it can only be a good thing, they are very Itv at the moment, hopefully ESPN will come in and make them a genuine competitor to sky
I'm guessing someone will buy it - probably ESPN. ESPN is the GP2 rights owner for Asia already, anyway...
So life goes on. Setanta sounds like a POTA from what I hear...
Apparently, Zoe will have one made by the time I get home tomorrow. The birthday continues when her family comes to visit. You can never have too much cake either.
I'm sure there will be plenty if anyone wants to drop by :-)
Any good birthday should be celebrated for week I reckon ;)
Hehe, GP2 is probably the smallest thing they carry, they rarely show it live, and its one of the first things to get bumped in case they need to show yet another hour of golf (because watching golf for 6 hours is different to watching for 5)
Starting this year, they've begun to show it regularly. If there's no major event on after F1 on Sunday night, they show both GP2 races in succession. I'm more than happy with that arrangement. :)
I got into GP2 last year and it's a pretty good series!
unfortunatelly showing it delayed, both GP2 races after F1 race, but an improvement over previous zero GP2 coverage
Quite – it would be unusual for any sport to swap broadcasters mid-season. Most will have spent their budget for such things already.
It has some pretty good racing - and drivers who won't just hang around in other cars' dirty air - for better or worse. :D
They're "Young and Hungry" and want to get into F1, that's why.
Last year was pretty good with Senna, Pantano and Di Grassi fighting all season and there was some good action!
yes, me too, having it live would be better, but I am happy the way it is too. and ... there is no Slater there :-)
OOps, i meant that was how Setanta show it, not Espn (StarEspn?)
Yup, but hey, at least ESPN has prior connections to CVC already, makes them solid favorites to get the nod.
too true! chris goodwin returned for turkey - and golly, i missed him! he's every bit as good as he's always been.
Are there any Brits in GP2 this year?
Ah, my point was GP2 isnt a major sports offering on Setanta, in fact they got it because pretty much no one else wanted it, and they already had commentators there so it was cheap enough for them to show.
ESPN dont operate in the UK yet, apart from a classic channel, there has been speculation they are coming in for a year or 2 now, but nothing has happened yet.
yes, Chris Goodwin returned and all of a sudden 50% of the commentary on Star made sense :-)
That seems odd to me - ESPN could do well in the UK, it's a decent channel...
Perhaps ESPN can takeover Setanta and rebrand it as ESPN?
Just 50%. :D Karun Chandhok was also pretty good when he had a go at it.
and throw in Mr Slater as a part of the deal ? :-)
Throw him in the river more like? ;)
:D Hahaha!
They did take the first step last year, taking over Setanta's north American sports channel, although i belive they have contracted setanta to run and distribute it.
He's quite a handy driver, too...
But seriously, I remember Mr. Goodwin doing commentary work for GP2 when his protege Bruno Senna was around. Maybe a rebranded ESPN-Setanta can pull him back... I hope they don't, though.
On a side note here - is anybody happy with the F1 TV commentary team in their country? I am excluding 5Live as it is radio commentary - but I suspect those who like their TV commentary are few and far between. Discuss.
Wolf and I are obviously not. We're OK with Chandhok or Goodwin as analysts, but that's about it.
this question may be considered a provocation when you ask viewers in Asia :-)
I still can't believe that there are people who'd hack your site in the name of Steve Slater. :D
Have we talked about the latest edition of Paddock Life? Really enjoying the last story about emailed press releases.
I am happy with any commentary, i grew up with none, so anything is preferable to that.
Ooh thanks for the reminder - hadn't read that yet!
Q&A with Ross Brawn:
Q. What do you think of Red Bull's decision not to favour one driver?
RB: I think it's … I mean, I sat down with Rubens and Jenson today, and we all agreed that they'd be racing each other today. Whichever way it went they'd be racing each other, and I think it's a nice phase of Formula 1 that we've got two drivers that are prepared to do that. So if Rubens had been in front, he'd have finished in front.
Q. Does that go against the way you have always gone about the sport?
RB: Well, I've been lucky enough to win world championships now, and perhaps winning it in a certain way is more important to me.
Lucky enough to win 14 total, is all. ;)
Love the bit about Dan Knutson - I can't stand those who resist technology!
No comment for fear of upsetting Ferrari and Brawn fans :(
Have they managed to set up Jensons car properly on any Friday? Its ridiculous Maybe Bernie has a deal with them to be off the pace until the end of Q1 to get people excited that he might not win.
I took from that, he doesn't want to win it favouring one driver like he did at Ferrari?
I think that is comment enough, really!
I'm trying to be less blunt and more tactful ;)
Hmmm... No comment.
Absolutely. He doesn't need to say it explicitly. We all know :)
I think they do, it's just that we don't notice it because they do most of their setup work on a heavy fuel load.
Indeed, indeed. :)
Very amusing, even down to using the American spelling of analogue – typical of Matt's attention to detail.
Always appreciated :)
Well maybe, I'm not sure I believe him though
Maybe. I will say this - regardless of championships in the past, I think Rubens has every opportunity to beat Button, but the simple fact is that he is not good enough. I'm starting to tire of hearing all of the excuses about this and that - it's like the world is against poor little Rubens.
Just look at my analysis from Spain - Button won because of consistency not conspiracy...
It makes sense, though. He'd be happy to win a championship any way possible, but it's bound to mean more if it wasn't manipulated.
Subtle humour indeed. I hope he got the message ;)
I think hes enjoying the affections of the British public, something he never got at Ferrari, but if your a ruthless racer like brwan, i think satisfaction comes from knowing you only won by chucking the kitchen sink onto the track, and you did just that. Maybe thats just the way i think though :D
I wonder how much the Brawns were pushed in Turkey. You see with Rss, you never really know which wins were the easy ones.
The man is a tactical genius and he works best with a driver who is consistent and does what he needs to do. That man this year is Jenson Button ;)
They have all looked pretty easy, haven't they? Not sure Button has been stretched towards the end of any race.
They have, but when you see how different Jenson and Rubens drive the race it makes you wonder...
Jenson is now only 2 wins off drawing level with Rubens in career wins, which is insane
I think Rubens will finally win Interlagos - and he might win Monza too. But yeah, Jenson will beat Rubens' total. :D
He can never win Interlagos because something always happens to him there, he couldn't do it in the Ferrari I doubt he will in the Brawn.
I dont know if MrC will see this, but doohicky is being funny with the text in the title bar that says how many new posts there have been i.e. [1 new]
It stays there until there have been more missed comments, before it just disappeared.
He has to win sooner or later, right? :) I think he'll finally pull it off. :D
Nah, it will be the one that always gets away from him. I can imagine him winning at Silverstone though :P
It automatically disappears when you post a new comment. Maybe that's why it went away?
Which browser are you using?
And on the Force India thing, are they not bound to the contract with the FIA signed by a previous incarnation of the team, so Vijay doesn't have much choice.
Chrome
It doesn't go away if i post or not, it only changes if miss more or less comments than before.
will James Allen ever learn how to link to other sites ? :-) look at his post on the Toyota F1 parts sale :-)
Oh the Irony
That's an old story though?
The irony was saying someone doesnt provide links without providing one of your own!
shhh, don't tell lou:
"Starting tomorrow, motorsport and design fans can submit their own design proposals for a helmet to be worn by the BMW Sauber F1 driver in the Grand Prix at the Nürburgring here at Nick's official website nickheidfeld.com."
http://www.nickheidfeld.com/?1001A0A1A5935
So Berrnie thinks Jenson's domination of the championship is a bad thing!
Shame we didn't adopt his silly medals system them isn't it? We could all go home after Hungary then couldn't we?
Well we’ll see - I just added a drop-down box to pick the Circuit for ease - but you may not like it. Your sheet is brilliant, I just tweaked it to suit my analyses… {Comment #141}
That sounds like a very good idea, especially if the list picks up the names from the circuit table through, say, a LOOKUP command. I wonder if there's a way of doing it that doesn't invoke third-party code (I can call it that because I use Openoffice.org to do spreadsheets)?
i think we'd have all gone home before melbourne to be honest mawech :)
And of course, the same goes for the annual F1R subscribers quiz at Whittlebury Hall, hosted by yrs truly… {Comment #142}
I would love to have gone to that, but unfortunately I can't. It clashes with the hog roast at the campsite I'm at and since Dad's having to miss the hog roast at his sailing club to come to the race, he wants to at least get the food he was expecting, even if the people he's with are strangers.
It's a pity because I love quizzes, especially on subjects I've read about before turning up...
Hope you have a great time and your hosting goes smoothly.
Thanks. It fills out the circuit box so the Lookup function populates the correct circuit values in the fuel and time penalty parts of the table. It's just a different way of doing it from typing it in. You will see later anyways ;)
I know "Lightspeed" is a dirty word around here, but as a Lotus fan since the days of Jim Clarke, I'd be glad to see the name back on the circuits again. I admit I would prefer it to be in the hands of a more credible organization, but you cant have it all.
FOTA plans to reply to Mosley about his letter by the close of play today Autosport says {Comment #}
My guess is it'll be "No thanks", except in the sort of long-windedness a Ronspeak practictioner would be proud of writing.
and if they trashed lotus' good name?
At least they'd be there!
Like I say "
It wont be the same, if lotus had remained in f1 and ended up being run by litespeed, it would be different, but for them to just jump in with a lotus bumpersticker seems wrong.
a comment especially for flibster... all about microsoft.
apparently the xbox zune live will be able to stream 1080p video in real-time but you'll need a minimum 10-12Mb/s broadband connection to use it.
that's probably about 6 people in the uk, but we can't accuse MS of not pushing boundaries.
as a pro-MS guy, I'd love to comment, but I'm not a console guy. :D
Whatever happened to that idea of playing streamed video games? Didn't hear anything from E3 about it...
Disagree. Lotus was Lotus and you should never try and reheat a soufflé!
if it's anything like video, no one in this country could benefit.
I'm having the same problem
Is it good or bad news if Setanta goes bust? What would happen to something like GP2 or SuperLeague on TV? {Comment #150}
I guess they'll have a lot less revenue than expected, unless they manage to find an alternate deal for 2010 and beyond. Even then they won't be on British TV for the rest of this year. I do worry that it might sink Superleague if Setanta's contribution hasn't been paid yet because I can't see where it's getting its money from other than broadcasters.
I may have lost track here, but does Setanta still do the Irish F1 coverage? If so, what would be the implications to itself, Bernie and Irish F1 fans?
I'm all for digital distribution, but it has to be alongside physical media. MS are trying to hide their mistakes and have no choice to go for it. Its great for people in the big cities in America, but vast swathes of the country simply don't have it. What happens in Europe as always with gaming is an afterthought.
So I hear. I'm not sure how fast you needed to be to use it properly...
just reading back through the comments. no code changes this end for about two weeks. has chrome been updated or something?
this is what i thought, I not smart enough to try it with another browser though. Other browsers make me sad :D
I havent downloaded anything, but it was fine last night. It has been a bit jumpy and doing strange things for the last week though
On a side note here - is anybody happy with the F1 TV commentary team in their country? {Comment #183}
I am very happy with the BBC TV commentary. Feeling lucky because we have two good commentary options in the UK when a lot of countries don't have one.
odd. will try looking at it later.
Chrome works a lot better for me in this LCLT than the old one.
To those who were saying things for Scott yesterday...
And so for what he paid he could still only get exactly the same phone. And of course he'll get all of the new version 3.0 software for free :)
Oh crap did he just buy his iPhone? Did nobody tell him a new one was coming?
You don't have to download anything with Chrome. Unless you've changed anything it updates itself without asking you (it doesn't change the registry which means you can install it + updates without Admin rights on your machine).
I don't think we're supposed to talk about it.
don't... just don't.
Well we did. But because of O2s odd pricing strategy it means that for what Scott could afford he would get the same exact phone either way.
But we were all wrong and he was right - as it goes.
Sorry ... what have I said now? :(
Ah thanks, i had a feeling that was the case, either that, or google had decided to not update it for a long time :D
you're more than welcome to read yesterday's comments.
Some Random Thoughts For The Great & The Good To Ponder
1) Limit Friday's sessions to only drivers who have never been in a GP
2) Bring back testing but for one week only, the teams have to nominate where and when before the season starts.
3) Award points for Pole & Fastest Race Lap
4) Drop 1/3 of cars/drivers in each Qualifying session
5) Rule changes must be anounced at least two years prior to implementation.
I kinda avoided them coz I was blogging... will do now - any chance of a lazy link? ;)
And on the Force India thing, are they not bound to the contract with the FIA signed by a previous incarnation of the team, so Vijay doesn’t have much choice. {Comment #220}
That is correct. It is something else for which he can blame his predecessor Colin Kolles, who signed the 2008-2012 agreement with the FOM and FIA in late 2005. Naturally, the team have operated since then on the assumption that this would be respected, including the commerical department. Hence the sponsor obligations which Vijay cited as the official reason for jumping ship.
Not a fan of this - that would make Fridays very boring - and as things stand, only Buemi would be out there if this was in place this year.
Sounds good to me.
I don't like giving away points just for that - it destroys the racing a bit.
The current one is good enough as it is. Why change it?
This should've been a rule a long time ago. Obviously, Max isn't a fan of this one.
i object to being told to shove it, after being asked an opinion.
i couldn't care less if we were right or wrong, he basically put a dampener on what was a briliant evening.
Yes. Agreed. It would have made sense to wait. I left then... kinda because :(
did you decide which mbp you "need"?
Oh. I see. I avoided the comments because I wasn't too fussed about WWDC. I'm kinda glad I did now :(
Because we may well have more cars on the grid and it seems a shame to loos so many after Q1
Teams that probably won't get to the podium may well fuel light to pick up these points, and consequently mix it up a bit. As for the fastest lap point drivers who won't win (Like Rubbie) can still score.
it was classicly poor timing, as the man who didn't want to hear about a new iphone arrived the second we all went..
IIIIPPPPHONE!
:D
Well no doubt the sponsers signed up for the period to which the team would be in Formula One (2008-2012) so it is possible that the two are connected.
For a 26-car grid, 8 cars are dropped after every Quali session.
Hmmm... I'm really not convinced with this.
I've just discovered I'm not as fit as I thought I was as a 10 minute bike ride (non-stop) has left me worn out. Good job I have all summer to work on this :D
Really like Dank's survival tips for Silverstone: http://www.red-bullog.com/2009/06/09/surviving-silverstone/
Camping? Don't do it.
:)
I like the way you justified it as (non-stop)
I didn't realise camping was so common with European races.
I am not doing it. Ever.
Hehe well I felt if I said it was just a 10 minute ride people wonder what my fitness was like right now
We have rented big German Campervans for Le Mans. I am glad!
awesome :)
If it's good enough for DC; It's good enough for me
Its not too bad if you drink enough first...
And neither am I. Was never one for the camper life. :)
Mr C, this bit is for you: You might guffaw, but the number of painfully pink-looking people dotted around the track each year never fails to amaze me.
Take sunscreen. :)
I do a 10-min ride to and from my house to the station. I bike everyday, come rain, snow, shine etc. It makes a big difference to you fitness!
staying indoors i so much safer.
Yeah it's a no-brainer. It's amazing how quickly it happens too. Try and slap some on before 10ish and again after lunch if it's sunny...
I'm not really a drinker, so I can't dull the pain of camping. I'm definitely a walls + floor + ceiling + proper bed person.
Except you don't sleep, so...
They should make Silverstone a roof like Wimbledon.
YAY! I have a dislike for the people where I work who bike when its nice and sunny but as soon as it rains they are back in there cars.
When I work I also happen to do the same, although I only work once a week and I tend to be lazy the rest of the week
I live in Denmark, everybody bikes here ;)
I live in England, where motorists have a dislike for cyclists. :P
I was talking to one of my clients today, he was off to Wimbledon like he does every year. I was so jealous :(
Not the ******* who knocked me off my bike whilst I was on holiday there, he drove (you've guessed it) a white van
Copenhagen?
language mawech!
More a disregard I think (i.e. they just don't see us EVER)
Apparently Boris Johnson nearly met his doom at the hands of a lorry while cycling a couple of weeks ago...
Sorry shouldn't have said "White Van" ;-)
No Fyn
doesn't he almost meet his doom on a weekly basis? he fell in a river last week.
perfect ;)
Hehehehe. That was funny.
That was funny :D
Someone has to mash that clip up with"He's fallen in the river!"
I like Boris - a politician who doesn't take himself too seriously!
"He's fallen in the Water"
Thanks Spike
Yep and one who you could believe made a mistake on his expenses :D
He always comes up with a great one-liner to cover it up though, the man should have a talk show or something.
I don't think he'll ever top his performances on "Have I Got News For You"
Did you see him playing football against germany
No missed that
for boris:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7826708.stm Boris Watch!!
Yay
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWIUp19bBoA
Mmmmmm... mbp....
I think I'm going to have to buy a new iPhone which, thanks to O2s annoying pricing strategy is going to be very expensive.
So maybe no mbp. Although I want the new larger one quite badly.
Thats brilliant :D
Why does that not surprise me
tethering is really compelling.
What is that exactly?
ooh ooh OOH cheap flights to NZ *books flight home*
It think its something that i have been doing for 10 years, using the phone as a modem
Did you see the pricing from O2?
3GB £14.68 a month Unlimited in 5,000 hotspots via The Cloud 30 days 19.6p a MB
or
10GB £29.36 a month Unlimited in 5,000 hotspots via The Cloud 30 days 19.6p a MB
The problem is I can't use that as an excuse for a new iPhone as that's part of the new software.
seat sale?
Have you noticed that when it comes to the prospective rule changes
The FIA have their consultations
FOTA have their consultations
The GPDA have their consultations
But us the folk who have to PAY we're ignored
they have sales all the time, but this is a good price, and its the dates I want because it coincides with mums birthday, and the F1 exhibit at the national museum :D
good on ya! :D
am confused. doesn't the iphone just come with unlimited 3g data usage?
you can use the iphone as a 3g modem for your laptop.
we currently have a 3g modem from 3. it works pretty well, but we have to put £10 on it every month.
Thats kinda cool, but I think I'll stick with having my iTouch and phone I prefer having seperate things.
here's our current setup, for on the road podcasting:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/01/05/travelling-light/
i would (heart) a 13" mbp connected via an iphone though.
Cool!
I have to sacrifice the Brazilian Grand Prix for my mother. I hope my parents don't care if I sit up to 2am streaming video on their computer :D
Off to lunch
See you later
It does. But apparently O2 have said that tethering will cost more on a monthly basis. So it's not really as great as I hoped :(
http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/internet.html
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/jun/09/iphone-o2-pricing
that is awful.
Eh? Brazil is on at 2 AM my time. In NZ, that would be... 6 AM?
The thing about the iPhone is how much you suddenly find you use the internet when you're out and about. It's like you couldn't have possibly lived without it.
oh thats right, I forgot Brazil isn't "normal" European hours
Correct.
OK, now I have a one way flight to Wellington. Now I need to suss out how to get to Dunedin and back to Melbourne for as cheap as possible :D
It's really bad all of that. Very annoying.
Walk!
it's cheaper to stick with the 3g modem we already own.
madness.
Cool :D
I can get the internet through my iTouch if I need it when I'm out :P I like to keep them seperate just in case one gets lost/stolen I'm not so bad off. :D
Hehehe. I first thought of The Amazing Race, then I remembered that they don't need to pay for their airfare. :D
i would like to retract this statement in the light of new information becoming available to me.
:(
AT&T aren't even offering Tethering! O2 are essentially doing the same thing by making it too expensive to reasonably use.
This and the other pricing stuff is why I was saying earlier that while the WWDC was great the dark cloud that arrived was just an early version of what was to come :(
There is a way around it which i think is err... legal
Just checked out my last.fm page I'm getting addicted to McFly again :o
on the plus side, i can pool our resources (well, christine's kidney) in the direction of the 13", which with f/wire is a bit of a steal.
as christine said yesterday, wouldn't your own kidney do just fine? ;)
Thsi was more of a skype workaround, but if you get a USB dongle at the same time as an iphone, take it apart and get the sim card out of it, swap it with the one in your phone. You will have to use skype to make calls, but other than that you have a phone with a massive data allowance.
Arrghhh
I come back 12 hours later and it's still iphones!!
I feel so lowly with my paltry Sony phone
Once they bring out a playstation phone i will be all over it. PSP go is the first step, the phone is probably just a year away.
I don't have an iphone either. I love my phone even though it turns it self off sometimes when I send texts :D
I'm such a Sony fangirl heh.
Maybe i should bookmark this site under Iphonecast
Morning all, how are we today?
Like a bunch of shiny apples :D
Cool - and a bit curious as to what FOTA will say by the end of today.
Sony Power !!!
Box of Fluffy Ducks?
Way better then a crummy iphone!!
I mean who honestly has one of them?........................
I don't have one of them...
ahem ;)
My PSP + PS3 + Vaio + Walkman + Bravia + Sony HiFi + DVD player agree. Why don't the stereos have a snappy brandname?
You could, but we've been talking about F1 all morning, so that would be disingenuous.
It's my fault sorry.
Really hope they hold max all the way on this, his latest letter to the teams says just sign up under the costing cutting regs and then they'd work something out. Like the teams will trust him on that!!!
Doesn't bother me either way.
It also gives the new teams an equal vote with the existing ones. Max has stacked the deck with people who will vote the other way.
Sony are overpriced, overhyped and have horribly evil warranties.
Soz, I used to sell their stuff in a former life. Mum had to threaten to get a camera fixed under warranty...
But at the same time, the longer this drags on, the more damaging it will be for F1. It will be best for everyone concerned to find a compromise and move on. As Joe said, dragging Max out now is a 50-50 thing. And who knows what can happen if Max survives a coup.
oh yes, I have a camera too. I know their stuff is over priced but its so preeeeetty. This is why I cannot fault apple fans too much, I am just as sucked in ;)
I still use old school memory sticks, they fit in my wallet far better than anything else i have found
Me too, was reading Autosport earlier (one of my procrastination techniques) and found this...(From Mr Mosley)
"To this end, if you do intend to enter, it would be helpful if you would let us have drafts of the precise rules you wish adopted, as much of the Enclosure 3 submitted by FOTA on behalf of the 2009 teams is currently in the form of minutes and statements of intent rather than the clear rules which you [and we] seek."
Kinda makes me think that Max wants them in, even if he won't admit it
Guys,
Was F2 worth watching? Just that I could make a DVD for the trip down to Le Mans and if they were good races I will make them into the DVD...
Oh and don't get me started on Sony Proprietry formats...
eee I am looking forward to my F1 museum visit. I fully intend on breaching the 'no photographs' rule
Max can't make up his mind, no doubt after the FOTA response he will come out with something else.
And he does! Which makes me think that if FOTA do decide to enter today, they may still emerge as victors over Max. Of course it all depends on how it plays out...
yeah, it's not the best racing i've seen, but still pretty good
Time to stick my neck out:
I predict FOTA will indeed decide to enter the championship today, while the FIA will indeed decide to adopt much of FOTA's proposals for 2010. In other words, a compromise.
Are their egos too big for it? Perhaps, but those 100,000+ fans disguised as seats in Turkey may give them the hint...
I don't know what to think anymore, part of me would like to see a FOTA breakaway because if done properly they could really be amazing....but.....
By this, I mean FOTA will announce that they will unconditionally enter the 2010 championship.
I would agree
If its going to happen it will happen today, but i wont be putting money on it. I cant see anything being archived with a deadline of TOMORROW
I'm surprised someone agreed with me that quickly! :D Anyone else?
so what do you think will happen, Nick? care to try your luck at being mystic? :D no money involved, anyhow. ;)
haha. to be honest, i think they have too. a compromise is how it will work out, but it'll interesting to see who announces it....if Max announces it it will be "I was great and came to a compromise" if FOTA do it's "we were great, and decided to have a compromise"
how about a joint statement saying "we did it for the good of the sport". No losers. ;)
however much i'd like that, i cant see it happening ;)
it'll probably be FOTA, then - they've been mentioning for weeks that they were open to a compromise.
I would like it all sorted out today, since tickets for 2010 go on sale tomorrow :D
If a breakaway were to happen...
what would you call it?
How about the Grand Prix World Championship? I'm sure someone still owns that trademark. ;)
Formula Finn ;)
Well at this stage FOTA have 2 options, wait until June 12th, i.e. the hardball game (F1 Politck) or try and do what max wants them to do and reform F1 from the inside.
I think the teams know how much they can trust Max, but the biggest issue for them is a Concorde agreement, if progress was made on that this weekend then they could sign. If it hasn't, i cant see them entering without conditions that it will be.
The teams are demanding 2 things a) money b) power. they will probably settle for just one. Either Bernie gives them 'a' or max gives them 'b'. Given the personalities its an interesting debate as to who should give in!
The teams have been beaten by hardball tactics too often, i think they will hold there nerve until Friday, but we could see the beginnings of the solution today.
Really?! I wonder if Donnington will be on the list, don't really know if i wanna go there next year or Spa. Thinking of doing Spa and drive to Monza for a all in one holiday with the lady.
Speaking of a breakaway:
http://formula-1.updatesport.com/news/article/1244535872/formula_one/F1headlines/FOTA-in-MotoGP-link/view.html
I still think the compromise is more likely than any breakaway.
Indeed. It will really hinge on how the Elite Eight view their current position...
They don't usually release British GP tickets until after the GP
Didn't see that coming ;)
not all of them are on sale, advance sale tickets for Melbourne are for people who went this year.
It's GMM, so take caution. Oddly enough, MotoGP fans don't think much of Ezpeleta. Take a look at this:
http://www.motogpmatters.com/news/2009/06/08/ezpeleta_could_lead_f1_breakaway_champio.html
Indeed. FOTA has said as much.
wow, didnt know that
ooh, just worked out my flights back to Melbourne. I will be home in time for the race ;)
cool! :D but the race would now be 4 AM rather than 6. Isn't that rather late?
That's what I thought, I do think I remember seeing an option to reserve a ticket for the 2010 Donnington GP on their website but don't remember the whole package being available.
owuld make sense though to not sell them yet considering it's still a muddpit!
if it went to silverstone the donnington tickets would work there too
Stupid Brazil hours :( The reason I realised I have to come home on Sunday is because I have to be back at work on Monday but I'll be mighty tired anyway. Last year lots of us were because since it was the championship deciding race lots of people who were only casual fans watched, maybe this year I'll be the only bleary eyed one :(
actually, it's f1's fault.
if the sport didn't dump on the fans every other week i might be interested in talking about it. if the sport wasn't run by a megalomaniac hell bent on destroying everyone, i might be interested in talking about it. if the cars weren't ugly and we had some overtaking i might be interested in talking about it.
we keep digressing in the comments, because f1 is in a pretty bad state right now.
Lets talk of happier times :P what was the first race you remember watching? mine was Brazil 2003 :)
It's the limbo-land thing that gets me. What's the point in talking about a sport when it might not have a future?
Snap!
Actually, that's not true. I don't remember it.
tis true.
hopefully, that all ends today.
not friday?
Spain 1996 for me. :D
What's happening today?
I remember it for the world's most expensive car park at turn 3! :D
it will end today if FOTA indeed decide to announce they will enter unconditionally.
but that's a gigantic if.
I must admit I'm starting to lose a bit of interest. It's not because of Brawn or Button because I sat through years of the German one winning and was OK with that. This FIA-FOTA-paper tiger thing is getting silly and it's draining my patience while watching...
FOTA is set to reply to Max's letter from yesterday. They'll reply by the end of today.
Donington 1993
Le Mans 2009 (hopefully ;) )
exactly how i feel.
Same old, same old.
And then Max will reply to that if he doesn't like what they say, its a never ending circle. They would get more achieved if they were all sat in the same room.
We shall see. As Nick said, if something's gonna happen, it'll probably happen today.
I don't think its going to disappear, we might just end up with 2 futures running parallel.
Everyone says how bad it will be, but i don't think the sport has been run all that well for a long time, i cant see how change can come without a breakaway to be honest.
I'm just sick of it all, the only bit of F1 i like at the moment is the community bit, SPC et all
The last time that happened (in Monaco), it seemed to work. But then nothing really improved...
The worst part is the recycled team names. I am a student of F1 history and it's the ultimate B******isation of these classic and legendary names to see them dragged thru the mud by Max and his mental agenda. Litespeed as Lotus? Eff off, they couldn't hold a candle to Chapman et al!
We are taking suggestions for SPC's rebranding exercise at the end of the year. I say Sidepodpanda, Your Weekly Panda Fix. Mr C ain't so keen.
I'd lock them all in the same room and not let them out until they learn to get on and play together :D
+1 for "Sidpodfinnishpeople"
They'd probably rather decide on how to escape than how to talk about F1...
I like, it's catchy ;)
what happened to my post! apologies to all........
I only know a few... it might be a short lived show.
Can you do some trial pandaminute's?
As apposed to Sidepodpanda which would be you going "awww look at that one" and Mr C going "not another one!!"
;) :D
Hmm then chain them to the chairs that way they can't move and lock them in the room. They can't move or even eat or drink so I'm sure they'll talk :P
Or die...
Hahaha! But they're old! they'll probably lose consciousness before they can agree on anything. :D
we could start here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Finnish_sportspeople and then branch out to "people Kathi sees at the supermarket"
I'm not sure they're that old ;)
Yes!
And in the main show it could be:
It's been a good week for pandas because they're not extinct yet.
It's been a bad week for Christine because she still doesn't own one.
Well there is that risk, but with Max, Bernie, the head of FOTA out of the way. The sport might be run better :D
Oooh, yes. And get her to track them down on Skype as well.
You know I'm really glad to go to Le Mans - proper race cars, and proper race drivers (Like Franck...) at a proper circuit. Although damaged, it seems to be the only series that isn't going don the toilet right now... :(
:)
Thats because you're probably not as "in to" LMS racing as you are F1....the ACO have made some completely STUPID rule changes this year
I am into LMS and the rule changes are stupid. Two classes within a class do not work. But the Pug and Audi are so close and the battle so fierce it doesn't matter!
And new pitlane rules too
I hate that circuit! (on grid)
haha, do you not see the chicanes coming aswell?
for the tennis fans, Boston's big pictures of the French open
It's supposed to be hell. It's an endurance race - you survive it ;)
no, i'm sure they move them...
Oooh, brilliant! The tilt-shift thing boggles my mind.
Remind me of those again? They're probably to help the Puggys!
being able to do a lap on track would be nice!
i'm just getting in to my "local" papers. tilt shift does look cool, but given photoshop these days, I just don't get why people by these lenses.
Needs more Verdasco ;)
I'm just happy they got the tackle on film. it was a great hit!
2 people doing the tyres at a time, but the way they've done it, teams still have the same amount of people doing them, just 2 at a time....and they've done ti so that tyres will be left on their own, so they may roll down the pitlane etc etc. it could be baaaad
:D
Back from Lunch
Did I miss anything
Nope.
Ho Hum
i can confirm google chrome has in fact broken the doohickey.
but i don't know why.
wow. really? very odd.
Oh God I can't keep up with all this Techno-Speak
its all an elaborate plot cooked up between Google and LCLT to make me switch
there doesn't appear to be a way of clearing the [x new] comments in the tab title.
How about we put on a rally, drivers from FOTA; Navigators from the FIA, and while they get lost/kill each other we gewt on with F1
I'll take a look later.
very simply. if you're using this page: http://www.sidepodcast.com/realtime/
and also the google browser. the text at the top of the page to tell you how many comments you've missed has stopped updating properly.
if i had to guess, i'd say they've broken the "tab focus" event.
You mean, not only do you have to fix the whole internet, you also have to fix Google? They're supposed to take care of themselves!
It's pretty annoying I imagine!
Bring back the man with the cleft stick
;-)
I'm not. Don't give these idiots exposure!
Seeing as we are off topic, does anyone want to hear about how my washing machine caught fire?
ooooh yes!
Always.
OK - well, we have a Candy Washer-Dryer, and we suspected that it has been not drying the clothes properly for weeks. During the race on Sunday (which is always when this s*** happens) I started to smell a weird plasticky smell. So I had a quick look around the flat and noticed smoke pouring from the kitchen. So I ran in and lo and behold it was the washing machine!
It looked a lot like Kimi's KERS failure in Melbourne actually - it did this a couple of weeks ago and the repairman blamed a short circuit - the inside fuse was black and melted through. But this time the smoke was thicker and much more acrid (the kitchen still stinks) and the best part - the shop doesn't want to exchange it under warranty until it breaks three times, even though it's now a fire risk!
Next time I'm buying a German one. I had a washer/dryer before and they're a lot of Piquet, so never again :(
Audi Washingmachines - Vor sprung derk technique
Italian ones are DEFINITELY like Ferrari's!
Really good for ages then suddenly they turn utterly useless?
Yep. ;)
But they've been around always; look pretty; have lots of hidden costs, and you can change the rules regarding them whenever you like
Indeed. Washing Machines could not exist without Candy!
Back to F1.
Did someone ask earlier on to-day "What was the first F1 event you attended?"?
I not then I'm asking it now; if so then my answer is the 1967 Gold Cup at Oulton Park; proper racing

Laughing powered helicopter is taking off
I bought a flat in London a few years ago and the previous owners left their Candy washer-drier. They claimed it was only a couple of years old (it looked more aged than that). Still, it broke within a month – and I hadn't even used it as a drier!
Got an AEG now.
Oooh, forgot to mention that – I'm off to LM tomorrow, working for a certain popular motorsport magazine's website. Or should I say WEBSITE.
:D
Will you see Franck?
Mais oui, Rodney...
*faints*
jealoouss!!!!
hehe!
am rather jealous now. can you give mr. hindhaugh a poke from us all pls?
heeeeh!
:P
biiiiiiiiiiig sidepodpoke
From all at Sidepostcast.
:D
Should be easy – I hear RLM is on a bit of a shoestring this year so may be operating from the media centre.
I have a man-crush on that man, not sure what it is about him!
oooh, nice one.
in that case we shall listen out for ya :)
Very contagious enthusiasm. Excellent commentator. Good company at the bar. Doesn't like F1, though...
At the moment...he can join the club ;)
RG....
This is me thinking about tugging....
don't do it....
No need to shout in the comments now.
*Whispers*
start pulling...slowly
*Whispers back*
Will do.
:D
Am i missing something here?
haha, Safari 4....
me not fan of
firefox 3.5 update due in a couple of weeks :)
Welcome back to the good side
yeeeeeeeey
Thank god!
I'll make the full switch once i've finished watching HIGNFY
Mr C what is the most popular browser for viewing sidepodcast? :D
He'll tell you Safari, but you know Firefox is best ;)
I use firefox 3.0.0.10
i can. but not at the moment. probs this evening, if you remind me. are you looking for info about this week / month / year?
Oh, you've really opened the can of worms now...
Right, I've got a suitcase to pack and a grumpy cat to assuage, so audi-os. Buckle those seatbelts for the rest of the week!
Good bye Safari, it's been nice knowing you for this past day,
it's not you it's me
have a great trip sir!
Have fun!! I'm very jealous!!
Say hi to Christijan for me and have fun
Have fun (as if you couldn't)
Just generally really.
I found the stats for one of my websites and was amazed at the number of people using Internet Explorer.
Hey everyone just two quotes for you to think over:
"In Formula One, there is not such thing as a Racing Incident."
"Amateurs Sports Stars practice Something until they get it right, Professional Sports Stars practice something until they never get it wrong."
Nick Heidfeld copying Jenson Button
http://www.nickheidfeld.com/?5340A0A1
Intresting that the helmet designer is called Jens...Will be used at the Nurburgring etc.
oh, it's christian now is it?
;)
Christijan Albers. Anyone who shares my birthday is a legend.
ahhhh.
our F1 Racing cover is quite different to your BGP special :)
What does Mr C, RG, Amy and anyone else on her at the moment think of the above quotes, I through they were funny!
*Here
Afternoon all. Got my exam results through today. Passed them all (although I'm a little dissapointed with one module), so nothing's stoping me for Silverstone on the 21st!
What's the main topic today? Still Safari by any chance?
sounds like you've been listening to mr/ schumacher ;)
gooooooooooooo chris!
Yay! Congrats mate!
Thanks guys
Very well done!
who's this mark webber chap?
And why do the australians like him so much? :)
i heard he's in F1, teammate of some young gun named fet-tle. ;)
my question is if he is Australia's No. 1, who on earth is Australia's No. 2?
That Aussie bloke in IRL, or NASCAR, or whichever non-Australian series.
Briscoe? He stands a better chance of winning his series than Webber does...
The Brabham boys?
That Will Speed bloke I think
Apparently this guy is Australias next F1 hope. Maybe its him.
Here's a guy who has friends at the FIA and at Ferrari. But in this crisis, he's gone for Ferrari (obviously).
Is there anyone left in motorsport Red bull don't sponsor?
The people behind Litespeed are ex-Lotus
They have visited Lotus Cars and Engineering to arrange the use of Lotus Technology
I believe they also have the support of CTL
Plus, they are extremely likely to have a sponsor.
Since Lotus left F1, David Hunt has been in contact with Hitachi and they have always been on board with Lotus coming back to F1 and standing behind them with sponsorship.
Hitachi Lotus Cosworth sound good? At least 2 bits of that sound fantastic to me. ;)
Will it be enough to get them through, though, assuming FOTA decide to enter and there's only 3 spots left?
so why do the appear to be utter useless in f3 (or whatever it is they currently compete in)?
How many of the other teams could have a title sponsor in place?
It's the number of entries for those 3 spots that are surprising to me.
It'd be good to see March, Brabham and Lotus back, but at the expense of Aston Martin (Ok - it'll be Prodrive for at least 2 years) or Lola or USF1?
Pass. Haven't watched any F3 in ages.
thats an easy question...
2 words
Dallara Mercedes
Dallara basically have a 90% of world wide F3 cars, same with Mercedes engines (up until 08)
It's like having Ferrari's domination over those 5 seasons (or however long it was) and then saying to a brand new team...."go beat them"
It's their own car and it does seem to be a proper Lotus. ;)
Lightweight, fast, unreliable. ;)
Actuallu - has anyone seen the full letter from Thwax to FOTA yet?
basically..i think they've only been making F3 cars for 2 years? it would be insane to think they could compete with the likes of dallara in that time, Dallara have been winning for aaaaaaaaaaaages
That comment is soooo screwed up. :D Haven't read it in full, but Wolf did post the key parts here earlier...
No response yet? If it was coming i would have expected it half an hour ago...
But maybe they havent published it yet.
To wait or not to wait for the FOTA statement? Hmmm...
Heh - we thought of it at the same time. ;)
Maybe, maybe... I'm surprised we haven't seen it leaked yet...
*haven't even seen it leaked yet.
Either that or you can type a lot in 12 seconds :P
Hello. I shouldn't be here as I have tons of college stuff to do tonight and tomorrow, but one of the biggest US open wheel racing bloggers has read the plug of SPC on my blog.
Anyone here read Pressdog.com?
FOTA haven't removed the suspended teams from their website yet, so maybe they haven't got a web-wallah full time
http://www.teamsassociation.org/
Aha, that makes them legit. Good news.
They're suspended, not expelled, whatever Frank says, so they should still be there.
Just checked it out; very cool!
I'm stunned.
Maybe they should be put in a naughty box in the corner!
Pressdog's thoughts on An Aside with Joe: http://pressdog.typepad.com/dogblog/2009/06/another-voice-in-the-wilderness-advocating-for-the-customer.html
Indeed - saw Sarah Fisher's pic too - her overall design reminds me an awful lot of Jordan-Honda's back in the day. ;)
I have a theory, you know how the logo looks like a 7. Well, there is two teams suspended, so I reckon Brawn will be suspended next and that would mean 7 united teams.
I've got ya now FOTA.
thats awesome!!
What you need to know about Pressdog in a nutshell is that a lot of IRL insiders read it. He started covering F1 last year and my lengthy comments as replies inspired me to start my blog.
It is 7 now really, Torro Rosso, Dont count!
Well, that's very cool. Well done for getting a shoutout and getting us one along the way :)
Yay! Go us.
AHA. They have been suspended just to make the logo right, not because they signed up for 2010
I hope he and others become regular listeners, that's the main thing.
Conspiracy Theory #2 : Anyone else see the 'Sidepod Worthy' with the links? Now I'm not suggesting anything of course...
nice one!
i do. someone called pat recommended it.
Look how well Mr C did in the SofaF1 poll this week! He's overtaken me again, grr.
Mr C go down a bit to see why Litespeed are rubbish
i'll get there. gimmie a sec.
i don't know flibster, but then i'm assuming neither do you?
ok. but they couldn't. and now they think they can jump stright into f1? did they not consider maybe looking at gp2 first?
Ah. :-)
cannot wait for them to enter f1 then. we'l point and laugh at their weekly humiliation.
Thats what I was going to do with Brawn this year.
Yeah, that prediction proved to be spot on...
no-one could beat them without alot ot time and a huge amount of money.
plus gp2 is a one make series, they designed and built the f3 car
Up against Lola? ;)
:)
if piquet joined them, then we could bet on whether he'd crash or whether teh car would break down first
ha. true enough.
It does seem like they are running before they can walk.
Make the F3 car fast. Then do a sportscar LMP1 or LMP2 car. Then do F1.
surely the bets should be whether the trucks can afford the fuel to make it to the circuit?
i rule!
LMP2 maybe, but you have to have supreme budgets to be top class P1 and F3 cars, if you went into F1 you'd have a (Comparitively) huge budget.
Don't get me wrong, they're going to be shocking, as all the other new teams will be, but their F3 car isn't an example of their shockingness
fair enough.
Considering that you keep changing your name every freaking week, you really do.
hehe. that's me favourite bit.
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/british-formula-3-international-series/catch-up
British F3, VW Cup, Ginetta G20 and British GT on 4OD, wooot
wooooooop
Evening all. I saw a story yesterday that Channel 4 are going to put thousands of hours of old programs on 4OD in the near future. I guess this is part of that.
That was my first ever sidepodcomment from Safari.
yay!!
It's all this seasons stuff, but yeah i saw that too
I got an email from them saying they are moving away from the 4OD application and going web-only. The app is horrible, based on Kontiki which likes to start itself and run in the background even when the app is closed. Same as the old iPlayer. Going web-only is excellent.
Sky Player is based on that too.
looks like there was a brawngp media day at silverstone today. expect heaps of jenson related footage on the bbc next thurs-sun.
From 5Live on twitter
Has peace broken out AT LAST?!
Nooo!! you cant say that, you'll tempt fate
If this is true (and it's from the Beeb, so I have no reason to doubt it), it's a shame I didn't put any money on my neck-sticking earlier.
Oh well...Thwax wins again.
But are they allowed to change their entry or do they have to submit new entries?
lets hope they are all there next year
They'll be allowed to change their entry - FI did it.
But does he really? If FOTA gets their way with the rules, I would think they've outflanked Max on this one. Besides, Max's statement from yesterday was a bit... begging? That's the way Jon and I see it anyway...
I think they are stalling to make sure they are on the entry for next year. This weakens the bargaining position of both of them, It makes a breakaway really unlikely, but the idea of a protest strike at a race this year even more likely. Im betting the race closest to the FIA elections...
Would that be Abu Dhabi? Might make the organisers angry with the FIA in that case.
I really can't wait until Friday?
That would be... Abu Dhabi, I think?
No you mean the out of season testing
Well, it would almost certainly be a dead rubber race (i.e. nothing at stake except the race win), so FOTA wouldn't have much to lose. But still, a race boycott would just make everyone look bad.
I am currently listening to the defrief podcast
As anyone got a link to the BBC story please!
They submitted a second non-conditional entry.
Yup. Teams join unconditionally. All he needs to do now is discuss options with the teams. He doesn't have to follow them as the regs are already in place - if he doesn't agree with what they want the current regs stand and he has the teams gentlemens areas in a vice.
sorry, yup: http://twitter.com/5LiveF1/status/2091929190
Thanks
Ooooh - so that's what the others will do then.
But why would FOTA agree with it, then? What sign did they get from Max that they can trust him this time?
I didn't know that. That is the main reason that I rarely use 4OD.
the rumour is he has already signed a pre-contract agreement but you never know with this sport
latest tweek from 5LiveF1
no, not that one - the one before that. this tweet refers to Alonso's status for 2010.
i linked to the right one, didn't i?
yup, you did.
is this page new btw?
http://www.fantasyracers.com/general/links.php
or just new to me? either way, many thanks to danny.
What extra features do you get on freeview during the race and Quaily?
They must have some deal in place to concede to this. I feel sorry for all those fake tea,s who thought they were at least going to make a few quid selling their entries to the real teams
Never seen it before
yup, that's what i was thinking. now, we really get to separate the men-entries from the boy-entries. Max will probably pick from USF1, Prodrive, Lola, Campos, and Litespeed/Lotus.
Same as you get on the web. 5 live commentary and in the race you get the onboard camera feed
Max has told them the only way to change the regs is from the inside.
Once they are on the inside, he has no reason to change the regs.
Can anyone think of a valid reason to get Max to visit Dallas, Texas?
Can you stay on the same driver for the whole race
They have a famous school book store.
No. you have to take who the director gives you.
But again, FOTA aren't THAT stupid. I'm sure Max had to give them something else to even consider coming back in. If it's not power, it's money from Bernie (commercial revenues via a new Concorde?)
Not on Freeview. You can have that through the Kangaroo TVs, but they're only available at the circuits for GP weekends.
View from the 6th floor is meant to be pretty special.
You'd think so..
I can't see any way this ends in favour of the teams.
I assume there is a memorandum of understanding in place between the FIA and FOTA on what has been agreed. I assume KERS is dead and that some procedure for future changes has been agreed. I guess if this works and Max gets re-elected we should have another couple of years before it blows up again.
Either an increased share in commercial revenue from Bernie and/or a guarantee from Max about the budget cap. Probably the former, possibly the latter.
Agreed.
Jon, catch a rope, I'm trying Safari soon.
If Max is reelected, we have another... 4 years? Surely Max will be too old by then... right?
Holding on VERY tight
i agree.
How old is Bernie?
and bernie...
It's irrelevant, he's immortal
Kers is going down, down deeper and down
He has been too old for a long time
120 ish
Bernie is 78, Max is 69.
Max is almost a decade younger?? That can't be good...
He's older than i thought!!
actually, bernie's age is just about where i thought it was. i was surprised that max is younger than i thought he was.
Just saw this on a tweet from Dr Kiki. Robots that crawl through your veins. Stunning technology.
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/discoblog/2009/05/26/the-tiny-robot-that-can-crawl-through-your-veins—and-treat-your-tumors/
I wonder if we could get some exploding robots into Bernie's veins.
BBC Sport Ticker: FOTA are close to a deal to compete in 2010.
hey Everyone is Le Mans on the telly
Not yet
Eurosport i believe, from Saturday
Can you get that on freeview
heh, Safari won't install. I take it as a good sign.
You will either find this very weird, or very cute:
http://mymilktoof.blogspot.com/
I think you may be able too, depends where you are
:D :D :D :D
I am in South East Kent
I'm not sure specfics, but if you have internet access on the day they'll be a feed that we're watching.
I think it would be Singapore, or possibly Japan, but i think Singapore is more likely
Will we be playing "Where's Gavin?"
:D
"OOOH I SEE HIM!!" ;)
Oh no, oh no, no, no... That would be a total disaster if they tried that there...
:D
any reason?
I officially have one assistant as of 1 month yesterday!
ERK!
She's 23, from Edinburgh, spent 6 months in Chicago last year and really likes Blues music. She's also a bit of a geek and has MCE qualifications *more than I have* She's also a qualified Nurse. One of my bosses questions - Do you still have the uniform?
Time to panic! We have to find an office, wire it all up and decorate it in 3 weeks. Oh, and a second assistant....
his laptop is clever ;)
hehehehehe :D
he doesn't need encouragement ;)
:D
An office for who, exactly? For your assistant?
haha
Don't think so, dont have a required package needed.
You can see where his mind was. ;)
For the 3 of us - we're not all going to fit in my playroom. Perhaps just me and the nurse... but not all 3.
You and the nurse, eh? ;)
Wait - your main office is your playroom?
Yup.
2 bedroom flat - the smaller bedroom is my playroom and home office. makes life so easy. :D
so many jokes, so little time
:D Hahahaha! Must... resist...
Evening guys and gals
Goodevening sire.
how art thou?
Evening Lukeh. :D Caught up with the comments already?
have been better. lousy work. grr. :(
No chance, gonna read through now
Heya Lukeh.
Start here:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/06/09/daily-9th-june-2009/#comment-342070
I do host one of the office servers here - Unreal Tornament 2004 server. ;)
wow. although fota have totally caved in... and max has got his way... but hopefully a bit of peace and quiet in terms of fueding between the two ;)
FOTA won't let him have it that easy. read on to see how steven roy sees it, which Mr C and I agree with.
have just read it now. steven has a point, does make sense in all fairness. Although i will admit, i'm happier about the news that there's a new series of Futurama :D
Good news everyone.....
there's a new series?! i'm surprised they've lasted this long the second time round. ;)
comedy central has picked them up for an actual series rather than dvd movies which is awesome :)
they'll be very, very very very good with futurama, me thinks. comedy central has a lot of excellent stuff on it that it promotes very well, unlike Fox, who absolutely trashed futurama :(
Dude, I'm over here!
The DVD's are being converted into episodes as well. As was the plan all along.
Indeed but they were DVD movies in the first place set in the way, as you say, so they could put them into episodes; the new stuff is back to the series' they did before :)
Hah! I posted a comment on James Allen's blog and I wrote a part about the dodgy link and recommended Windows Live Writer. That bit got removed - but he fixed the link ;)
Right, I think I can go to bed now. I DO want to watch LA-Orlando Game 3 tomorrow morning.
I'll miss the FOTA statement that they will indeed join for 2010, but hey, we more or less know what that statement should contain. ;)
Night, everyone!
You were noticed! :D
Night sir.
Do you think Orlando can win this one?
I'm quite pleased that he did that because it means he can take constructive criticism, act on it and yet still allow the comment (mostly).
Game 3? Sure. The series? No way. :D
They have 3 at home in a row. It will be really interesting if they win them all.
Parting shot: I think Orlando can win 2 of 3. But I'm guessing LA will steal Game 4 from under their nose.
No. What is the point of having the name when it is nothing to do with the original. I am also a long term Lotus fan and I would hate to see even a successful fake Lotus team.
Apparently it's the only one which is...
goood evening everyone :) how are you?
evening lou :)
Being forced to watch poetry, thank god its over!
to watch poetry?
1) I don't like that idea. Race drivers get too little time in the car as it is. I would be happy to add a session exempt from all the engine and gearbox limits for reserve drivers.
2) I am in favour of more testing. Teams have to be given the opportunity to improve their cars. I find it odd that we have a set of regulations that mandate incredibly expensive cars that it is too expensive to run. They should mandate less expensive cars so that they can afford to run them more.
3) No. Points should only ever be for finishing positions. The points system needs to be overhauled nut I hate series where people get points for anything other than finishing positions.
4) I don't like the system and tinkering with it won't make me any happier. We need to get back to the 12 lap system. Qualifying should be about a driver doing one fast lap within an hour not multiple laps at different times.
5) Agreed and the same for the calendar. The circuit contracts are all multi-year deals so there is no need for the calendar to be delayed as much as it is.
It was on BBC2
I now know what the poet laureate is, not sure that has added anything to my knowledge base, but there you go. The only saving grace was that the programme was presented by Ian Hislop. If i see him again i will ask for an hour of my life back.
Mr C scoring the big points haul over in the SofaF1 championship!
That takes him to third place, but he's only one point ahead of Lou!
http://www.sofaf1.com/2009/06/sofaf1-championship-2009-round-7-turkey.html
That's me's favourite bit you mean ;)
ohh... sounds interesting... i was collapsed on my bed watching eastenders and reading a magazine. :) lol
I actually liked that program. Soz.
Grrr.. i didnt dislike it, but i wanted to, and still wish i had been watching cricket...grrr
so he already uses WLW, but is embarrassed about it?
I also think Dizzy Rascal would have been a far better appointment
ouch, i only got two points, damn Rubens having problems! Well done Mr C *fights urge to become competitive...*
just wondering did anyone see what the Daily Mirror (i know, bare with me) wrote about Rubens today?
Eveneing
or even evening
following up from croftie's mention of his "iTouch" ion sunday comes this post from will:
"Ever since the good folk at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi sent all us journos an iPod touch with their media kit on it, we’ve been downloading Apps from the iStore like crazy."
WHAT?
Hi Jackie
I was a jounalist in the UAE for a month a few years ago. I am still using some of the stuff i was given!
Hi Steven, are you well
SCOTT!! I just heard you getting a question answered at last years le mans!!! Thats awesome
Good as ever
I blogged the KERS failure in my washing machine (mentioned earlier). Enjoy ;)
Cool .. I feel all interneted out theses days. All the FIA/FOTA stuff is just turning me off
Ha!
F1 is always about politics. This is still very tame compared to the early 80s stuff.
Which is fair enough, but it's still frustrating. Theres always politics going on, but not this type of politics
I do usually enjoy the politics, its great if the racing is also good but we seem to have pants racing because the Brawns are winning everything and we're just left with the politics to discuss
Evening all. I. am. knackered.
Just thought I'd start by plugging the blog post I wrote last night but must have gotten lost in the comments:
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com/2009/06/so-who-wants-new-team.html
alex... you have to buy this f1 iphone app.
It's good then?
Which one is it?
expensive. will mentioned something about paying for every race?
but yeah. awesome.
http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2009/06/09/app-app-and-away/#comment-41
link at bottom of that page.
The official one.
have left a comment, but it's in moderation.
When is something in F1 not expensive?
Awesome.........
You have moderated yourself?
The thing you always have to remember with all F1 politics is that whatever happens next year we will have the same teams running on the same tracks to the same rules more or less. There may be political change or financial change but in reality nothing changes.
We have Le mans this weekend to give us something else to talk about. I think the practice day is tomorrow.
When your name is Bernie
on will's blog.
Think I'll pass after trying to get into ALMS
ah :D
I will try and tweet from down there. I am going to make a video diary and take loads of photos too :)
Original no longer exists - Litespeed has David Hunts blessing - needs it in fact to use the Lotus name.
Would it help to know that after Llitespeed visited Lotus - Lostus were looking for a larger autoclave?
How much is the F1 App in the UK iTunes store?
£4.99
Hope you have a great time
Why cant they put it on the normal web, i would pay for something like that!
Cool - it's the same price in the Danish store too...
Thanks Jackie ;)
because there's no micropayment model for the web. people expect everything for free.
you can charge on the iphone an earn money. real money.
Are you serious suggesting the Lotus factory are going to make F1 monocoques?
The best part about the app store is that there's no try before you buy - so even if it's pants you still paid for it! Genius!
Grrrr
Have to say, that F1 app looks impressive. VERY impressive.
Couldn't possibly comment on that.
the only downside is it's basically useless between races and during the off season.
Flibster, if i was in the market for an old elise, is there a better place to look than ebay or auto trader?
Stwange, my lclt seems to have stopped refreshing comments since Jackie's first. A quick refresh did the trick, but that was odd.
Doohicky was doing it last night, i put it down to the sidepodcurse
SELOC
Lotus Club
Pistonheads
But it can 'replay' sessions though?
Blame me .. haha everyone else does ;)
Cheers, im looking into it
I guess the option to watch sessions back when you wanted would cure F1 boredom. For a while, at least.
you forget the bit where you have to pay basically £5 for it each race.... mum would kill me if i did that for every GP :(
Evening all, how is everyone? :)
where did you get that figure from?
It is a tad expensive - even if you could watch the race on it that would still be priocey!
It's race-specific. That app only works for the British GP...
The price will come down if people don't subscribe
i thought it was like £5 a race? (i could be totally wrong, it's been a confusing day for me and i'm shattered, sorry if i am)
If you're looking for an early Elise, the 135's and 160's are the ones to look at.
Or for something a bit flashier, the Gold Leaf, JPS or classic colour schemes are always cool. :D
It's like KangarooTV on your iPhone. Only without the video feeds. And 5Live. Cheaper though.
am looking for the price but i don't see it? all i know is i just paid £4.99 and mr. buxton said something about a couple of quid per race.
More spam on dropio
don't care... iphone app!
(ok, am on it)
but when you go to download it the title says it's for the British GP...
it has monaco too. so i don't follow?
Hello folks. Just done watching this weekend's race after my holiday this weekend. Almost managed to avoid finding out who won until I watched it but managed to see a featurette a man was reading in the paper at work today. That was annoying!
oh it could be me being silly. never mind :)
Whoever put that Timo Glock vid on there. I heart ya
That used to be me and it sucked :(
aaah man i hate it when that happens
it could be one app per race. it's impossible to find out any info :(
It's worse when you think you have made it. It is almost better to find out straight after the race.
Hardly a bolt from the blue though!
Hah no. That's true. Was an alright race to watch anyways I think.
I just want to give Sebastien Vettel a big hug though :(
I want to teach him how to overtake
I just want to clip him round the ear!
Pah! You're all mean.
I still think he's lovely if it helps :)
Wah? Sorry, would defended him but someone posted a Timo Glock vid so I was put off.
Just seen the new Santander ad with LewHam. All I'll say is - Scalextric and a big dog.
It doesn't say anything about a season pass, just access to data from the Monaco, Turkish and British GP's
He's just usually so cheery. Even when he's been skelped by Button before he usually talks about it with a wry smile. He just seemed really dejected today.
Haha well "today" in my world.....
Have you seen the new Audi add they have KERS but call it a regeneration device.
The one with the coins? Yup.
The FIA say that FOTA's response to Max's letter was not entirely negative. Doesn't sound like pice has broken out yet.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75977
Thank god, i was worried f1 was about to get boring!
But from what I can read from it, we're starting to get there at last.
Doohicky is working properly on chrome now!
Are these the same guys that did the model kit one?
I lied, its stopped behaving
Looks like it. LewHam and a load of mechanics come out of a box, put the Scalextic track together, set him off and then he stops as a big dog lauds. He kinda stares it down and carries on. :D
Here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhkLUhZFaik
And the Making Of
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-jJm576DOo&NR=1
I like that. :D
making of too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-jJm576DOo
This one is still better. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C0I7Ef4gQI
I think the ironic thing about that ad was that it was debuted on the weekend of the Hungarian GP, I think...
Oh god. Don't remind me of those two kids pulling each others' hair. That advert is so true to life it's spooky.
Hey guys,
Some Monaco Qualifying analysis for you ;)
Am I late on this, but I just read that an agreement between FOTA and the FIA is forthcoming
Maybe, but don't fret, there could be more to come...!
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75977
I remember a discussion once about websites that spew out sewage in the form of F1 news in order to have a certain number so stories per day. I'm wondering of I just got this from one of them: GPupdate?
Its not too far wide of the mark, the bbc were reporting it earlier, just watch out for the letters "GMM" they are the spewage pipe
Roger that. I just compared the two articles and they are very similar. I notice that sometimes GPupdate does the he said/he said between drivers, I suspect looking for an escalation.

The warning signs are any stories attributed to GMM or the Spanish newspaper Diario AS or the German paper Bild.
Thanks, I know what to look for. Didn't want to get one Joe Sawards bad side.
He shouldn't be afraid of change
Nuts...
The pneumatic cylinder on my chair has just failed...
Just dropped one foot to the lowest level
I suspect it looked rather like having your ball burst...
wish i'd been there to see that ;)
I was holding a full glass of water too...
I now look like I've wet myself...
Did you have a glass of pink wine?
Ahh, could be worse :D
Were you broadcasting live at the time by any chance. I have never known one of those cylinders to fail.
It's a very old chair base. Just had new tops added to it over the years. At one point is had a Recaro race seat on it
Can someone remind me to wish my mother a happy birthday tomorrow please?
Christine wish your mother a happy birthday tomorrow.
Doesn't your computer do that?
I will be on it as midnight hits? Strawberry as a present?
Ta.
Probably not without me specifically asking it to. Although, that would be a feature worth paying Apple money for.
sidepodspace update.
I don't think the space shuttle will be launched on time. It's launch is scheduled for 7:17 am EDT / 12:17 pm UK which fits nicely in the gap between warm up and the race. Given how their last landing went when it was scheduled for the Friday of Monaco this is bound not to work.
Good plan. Although, does it still count as thoughtful to give a present that she had to save from the brink of destruction?
Maybe put a big bow on it?
:)
Ollie's latest caption competition. It's a Heikki photo
http://blogf1.co.uk/2009/06/09/caption-contest-94/
he's on holiday again?
Monaco!
he is? blast.
Surely saying that is just inviting extra abuse....
i guess it depends on whether we get a postcard or not?
He is on holiday in Monaco now?
I haven't got a postcard in ages. I want one now!
I always feel guilty when i get them, what am i supposed to do with it!
I get them from my girlfriend but thats it. Booo
OH, brilliant, i managed to get everything sorted so i would only have to be in london for 1 day this week. that day is tomorrow. There is strike.
A strike??
Underground train drivers.
I guess they couldn't be replaced by computers, because the computer might take a wrong turn.
they will be one day.
Unfortunately that day was in 1968
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_line
Wish they would....
that would scare me too much. i never end up going on the underground lol
really? bless ;)
They're always on bloody strike. Makes me glad I don't live in London anymore. Other people apparantly always have to go to work, this seems like a shock to them though.....
i don't like them enough as they are.
Its a glorified escalator... and you meet the most interesting people!
hehe, i can see why.
i had no idea.
its one of the only places in teh world where class/race/etcetc doesnt matter!
first come, first barge :P
Jesus Christ. I really have to go to bed. I've just realised that I'm sat up watching Kimi Raikonnen play icehockey on youtube. God only knows why....
did someone say Heikki?
Someone needs to take a plunge and just computerise it all...
night alison.
Where is he?! Jesus?! Is it the second coming?
ollie.
or as i now prefer... "that lucky sod, ollie"
Ollie did in his caption competition. Complete with photo
http://blogf1.co.uk/2009/06/09/caption-contest-94/
Night Alison
also, axis complement heikki today too.
Night alison
Left a caption for Ollie's comp.
There is a star trek reference which alludes me at the moment...
And a fine one it was too. Thanks. :)
In the caption contest or in Scott's comment? :)
Hehehe, no probs :)
In the contest!
uh-oh, i thought you were away?
i take back everything i said...
Oh yes... Did I not here Monababy... Yeah!
You mean Monaby :D *cue hilarious pic of Jenson Powers* :D
haha, it should be renamed that!
jenson powers.... giggles saville...
I worry my own self on photoshop sometimes
It is a classic, i am tempted to print it out, take it go goodwood and get it signed by Jenson Powers himself!
you would be my hero if you did that.
Had to dig it out just for the sake of it
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/yeahbaby-jpg-2
:D
DO IT! I would love to see his face when he sees it :D
OK, i will try but the monaby one :D
Now that, is a good idea!
He probably wouldn't know what it meant. Take the Monaco one and he certainly would!
SPC - taking over the F1 world one driver at a time :D
Perhaps the entire sidepodpresence at goodwood should so the same... make sure it really gets through
Any sim racing I do in the future, I plan to put a SPC logo on every car I race to promote the brand ;)
You do realise this is probably how Starbucks got to where it is today ;)
sidepodspace update.
The official countdown starts tomorrow morning at T - 43 hours
Does that mean the unofficial countdown has begun?
can i be there when you do.... just so i can be that close to JB.. i wont say anything... just take a few photographs and then sit down for a while....
Hehe, your not going to try and meet him?
okay. who wanted browsers stats?. ..and why?
top software for the past 30 days:
- firefox 3 (36%)
- ie 7 (19%)
- ie 8 (7%)
- safari 3 (7%)
- chrome (6%)
- others (25%)
Jenson? not sure what i'd say really... not sure how close i would be able to get to him either lol i want to take some photos though :D
hehe. and goo scott!
oooh i loves me some stats, although i didnt ask this time...
If all else fails you could try Hey..gashelesItoatalywowyoucantbeliveOMGyouramazingnothiscantbeyourterrific
How much of the 'others' is Safari 4 beta?
And 26% using IE, have we taught them nothing? ;)
Have some photoshop goodiness guys
:)
Chrome must conquer! but the 25% others is strange?
ahahahahaha :D
iPhone / other mobile browsers / er... Opera?
i just aggregated the rest. surely you don't need more info than that? others include:
- safari 4
- ie 6
- opera 9
- firefox 1
- konquerer 3
- ie 5
and many, many more.
Haha, great stuff!
Trying the subtle approach, eh?
Nice work :D
It means they are doing everything to get a launch on Saturday. You could argue the unofficial countdown started years ago when they started designing the bits they are taking up.
Konquerer seems popular...
hehe!
Que?
ROFL YSST
i dunno. there's firefox 9 listed too.
Or thinking about designing them
Just watched the Red Bull air races and F1 could learn a thing or 20 from it. The run takes 1 and a half minutes and about half through the stewards announced that they were investigating the pilot for not taking a gate correctly. 10 seconds later he had a penalty. All penalties are fixed so no disputes. The TV coverage is a generation ahead of F1.
unfortunately i cannot tell you how windows fairs against apple for reasons of strict confidentiality (and the fact the mac is loosing).
And no FF3.5 beta ;)
konquerer 3 = Not updated since Oct '07
[Come on peeps, own up - who is it?]
Exactly. The schedules are set so far ahead that you can go all the way back to the day they started talking about the ISS.
It's not a numbers game
[Unless we're winning]
am off to bed now as i start A2s tomorrow (seriously cant they give us a bit of a rest?) night all! x
Night Lou
Night, if its worth anything, i think they were better than the AS modules :)
night! :)
I was just clicking through some stuff on the Le Mans site when I found a very interesting page. Unfortunately it is in Frnch and the English version will not open but what caught my eye is that they are offering runs in a tw seat F1 car fro 50 Euros. I don't know what the car is or even if it is only F1 ish but 50 Euros is nothing for that.

Time for sleepies. Night guys :)
Night!
5) Rule changes must be announced at least two years prior to implementation.
Making the FIA announce them at least two weeks prior to impelentation would be a start, although not one Max would appreciate.

Sixth form didn't give me much rest either. Also, look out for the possibility of a bumper load of summer homework (which I found awful, because I'm the sort of person who needs to do school-related work in school)...
