The 9th June is the date that Johnny Depp was born, and Charles Dickens died. I do not think the two events were related, but that is just a bit of useless trivia to start your day off well. As it turns out, Sidepodcast has been distracted from all things F1 with all things Apple, so here's a couple of things to redress the balance:

  • Max Mosley has suggested that FOTA should enter for 2010 without conditions and that way they can help to shape the future of F1. It's funny, because I'm pretty sure he was ignoring anything they suggested previously, so why would it be any different?
  • McLaren have admitted that Lewis will never be able to defend his title this year (see F1 Big Picture) and at the same time, Christian Horner has said the gap between Red Bull and Brawn GP is just too big to make any kind of dent. Looks like Turkey was the sad realisation for everyone!
  • We must have missed the official announcement that Force India have been suspended from FOTA, but Vijay Mallya says he wants back in. He thinks their situation is very different to Williams in that they have been open and honest with the association throughout. But can FOTA really treat the two situations differently?

That'll do it for now. Don't feel constrained by anything I've mentioned above. The daily posts are your place to discuss what's on your mind. Yes, even the new iPhone. I'll see you in the comments.

Vijay is delusional if he thinks their situation is any different to Williams. They both signed agreements and made commitments then ran back to Max breaking all those agreements. Clearly any commitment either of them makes is worthless.

Vijay is talking more in hope than expectation. He had no choice, but then FOTA didn't really have a choice either. Suspension through frustration.

it's hard to explain unless you have an iphone. but basically, if you look at this page:

    http://www.sidepodcast.com/video/

you'll currently see a bunch of question marks on the iphone and/or g1. because neither handsets support flash. same thing happens for audio podcasts currently showing on the homepage. just a bunch of question marks.

however... unless you've suffered this issue, nothing i'm doing now will make any difference.

I think Joe said it best in the most recent Aside about Vijay. If he's jumped the FOTA ship, he's on his own in the water along with Williams. Making it rather bizarre to claim that he's still onboard.

I don't see how Force India's situation is any different than Williams. Regardless of the details, they both had extenuating obligations that forced them to break ranks from FOTA.

I know you are all asleep now but I will put in my 2 cents:

I don't think I would advise Safari on Windows, it is not good.

Both Firefox and Chrome are options. Firefox generally works well, although I had weird things happen with the Doohickey for a while over the weekend. A couple of reloads and it come good.

With Chrome, you can bookmark the Doohickey as an "application". That is what I am running right now. It's a great solution, and I haven't had any problems yet, although the browser is still one of those Google "beta" products.

  • F1Wolf09/06/2009 at 03:31

The first year I had a proper chance to watch Le Mans, not just a one hour highlight package, was I think the first year of the R8's I remember one of the cars had gearbox trouble so the car came into the pits and straight into the garage the mechanics went to work and removed the rear end and put the new on in about 4 minutes, Alain de Cadenet was giddy as a little school girl while he was watching this from outside the garage.

I think most courts listen to the dummies rather than the circuits now. Some other circuits (some big, some small) have been forced by the courts to restrict running days due to noise.

well, if I were FOTA rep, I would request Max to disclose to me the names of selected 3 new entries. then I would contact them and get some idea how the see FOTA's proposals. Depending on outcome of that talk I would make my decision....

that makes some sense, and would fulfill the condition we're looking for. but has max even made the decision as to which 3 new teams he'd admit whatever happens?

  • Sebastian (Birmingham, UK)09/06/2009 at 07:19

Was not the gist of Mosley's letter that if FOTA want their own rules, they should sign up unconditionally agreeing to the budget cap so it could be discussed later? Not only is he telling them to compromise by just giving in but is even telling them which set of regulations they need to choose.

He also observes that the rules can not be changed without the consent of all entrants including the new ones, yet the existing rules for 2010 were introduced against the wishes of all ten current teams!

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 07:23

He also observes that the rules can not be changed without the consent of all entrants including the new ones, yet the existing rules for 2010 were introduced against the wishes of all ten current teams!

This is actually correct in the sense that once you're signed up for 2010, any changes to the rules have to be agreed by all entrants (which should be via the F1 Commission). Max is playing on a loophole here - since he was introducing rules for 2010, which teams hadn't formally signed up for yet, he's effectively telling them that he could do what he did because FOTA hadn't committed to 2010 yet (as the agreement with FOM isn't really Max's concern but Bernie's). Whether this interpretation of Max is correct, however, is up for debate.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 07:23

We talked about it a bit last night. It sounds enticing, but unless Max can prove to FOTA they can trust him, most don't see it changing anything.

true - there's lots of paper tigers, but i still see 5 serious entries - USF1, Prodrive, Lola, Campos, and Litespeed/Lotus. These 5 need some serious vetting to see which 3 really deserves to get through whatever happens.

Epsilon? They may be serious, but I would group them with this group. Why did USF1 discard them in the first place?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 07:40

    I find JA's blog post interesting: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/06/08/frank-and-ross-two-perspectives-on-a-crisis/

Why is Frank so supportive of Max? I understand Brawn's position completely though - you don't bite the hand that feeds, etc...

Who says USF1 discarded them and not the other way around?

Epsilon have everything in place to build an F1 car so why are they not serious?

I'm guessing he trusts Max more than he does LDM and the manufacturers. Better the devil you know...

I don't know. My gut feel with them is that they have the technical expertise, but not the financial backing...

  • F1Wolf09/06/2009 at 07:44

true - there's lots of paper tigers, but i still see 5 serious entries - USF1, Prodrive, Lola, Campos, and Litespeed/Lotus. These 5 need some serious vetting to see which 3 really deserves to get through whatever happens.

If Max hasn't made the selection yet he can always pass to FOTA shortlist that includes 5 names :-)

other than USF1 perhaps all these teams will need support of existing F1 team to pull it off without being 10 secs of the pace. So some sort of agreement with current FOTA gang will probably be necessary for these guys.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 07:46

not necessarily. if FOTA aren't in F1 2010, there's no cars to be 10secs ahead of him. i guess you can say Williams and FI will still whoop them, but those 2 teams should be enough to share their expertise with the rest.

  • F1Wolf09/06/2009 at 07:46

other interesting part of Mosley's letter is this:

"Also, the FIA will need to know who to discuss the draft with. There will certainly be new teams in 2010 and it presently seems unlikely that all of the 2009 teams will participate in 2010. Obviously the draft should be discussed between those that will participate only."

He is obviously still hoping that FOTA will sign up at the end, but at the same time expects some casualties ...

Unlikely isn't impossible. I think that line is a ploy on Max's part to scare those who think they're vulnerable to sign up and secure a spot. Besides, since FOTA's is an en masse entry, he'd have to accept all 8 and not leave anyone out...

being serious is one thing, having the know how and having the money to compete is another. Lola failed 12 years ago when F1 was much cheaper adventure than it is these days. And even budget capped 40 mil is still seriosu cash ... Well, not enough to buy Kaka, but still, serious money

depends what is the bond for. not to split from FOTA during the negotiations, or not to leave F1 ... how can the teams guranatee on behalf of mother company that the bosses in Tokyo or Paris or Munich or Stuttgart will not pull the plug ?

i think it's not to split from FOTA. but if they leave F1, aren't they effectively leaving FOTA as well? as for the financial guarantee, that is indeed a good point.

yes of course they would leave FOTA, but what I meant is that this bond may be basically only there to assure all the manufacturers are on the same page during the current negotiations.

I'm coming (Copse E terrace and Hamilton Fields). If you want to come and don't have tickets, I suggest you order them very quickly because the BBC commentators said the event was almost sold out - a poor performance by Silverstone's previous standards, a good one by the standards of 2009 F1 ticket sales.

    Hey Alia,

I made some small tweeks to your Fuel Fing - I added some VB code and changed the time format to minutes and seconds. Shall I drop.io it later or would you like me to send it directly to you when I get home?

  • Alianora La Canta09/06/2009 at 08:29

    This is actually correct in the sense that once you’re signed up for 2010, any changes to the rules have to be agreed by all entrants (which should be via the F1 Commission). Max is playing on a loophole here - since he was introducing rules for 2010, which teams hadn’t formally signed up for yet, he’s effectively telling them that he could do what he did because FOTA hadn’t committed to 2010 yet (as the agreement with FOM isn’t really Max’s concern but Bernie’s). Whether this interpretation of Max is correct, however, is up for debate. {Comment #92}

Minardi tried that in 2005 because the F1 Commission wasn't involved in the 2005 rule changes and Minardi would have preferred to start the year with the 2004 cars (which technically weren't banned by the letter of the regulations because the F1C hadn't met to discuss them). It didn't work because Max threatened the Australian courts with revoking all FIA sporting activities when Paul Stoddart took the case there. Paul ended up withdrawing his case for the sake of Australian motor sport, even though threatening a court is itself illegal on the grounds of obstruction of justice. So this is purely a trick.

This interpretation (which by the way is not what Max did) is valid, but Max's behaviour is likely to make it invalid.

First time out it was, because I expected everyone to be hardcore fans. But there were complaints that it was too hard. There are always two or three teams who know absolutely everything while everyone else struggles a bit. So the majority is easy-to-moderate, and then at the end (following the inevitable four-way tie for the win) a series of sudden death stinkers.

Hehe, GP2 is probably the smallest thing they carry, they rarely show it live, and its one of the first things to get bumped in case they need to show yet another hour of golf (because watching golf for 6 hours is different to watching for 5)

Starting this year, they've begun to show it regularly. If there's no major event on after F1 on Sunday night, they show both GP2 races in succession. I'm more than happy with that arrangement. :)

Ah, my point was GP2 isnt a major sports offering on Setanta, in fact they got it because pretty much no one else wanted it, and they already had commentators there so it was cheap enough for them to show.

RB: I think it's … I mean, I sat down with Rubens and Jenson today, and we all agreed that they'd be racing each other today. Whichever way it went they'd be racing each other, and I think it's a nice phase of Formula 1 that we've got two drivers that are prepared to do that. So if Rubens had been in front, he'd have finished in front.

    Q. Does that go against the way you have always gone about the sport?

RB: Well, I've been lucky enough to win world championships now, and perhaps winning it in a certain way is more important to me.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 09:55

Lucky enough to win 14 total, is all. ;)

Have we talked about the latest edition of Paddock Life? Really enjoying the last story about emailed press releases.

Love the bit about Dan Knutson - I can't stand those who resist technology!

No comment for fear of upsetting Ferrari and Brawn fans :(

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 09:58

Have they managed to set up Jensons car properly on any Friday? Its ridiculous Maybe Bernie has a deal with them to be off the pace until the end of Q1 to get people excited that he might not win.

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 09:59

No comment for fear of upsetting Ferrari and Brawn fans :(

I took from that, he doesn't want to win it favouring one driver like he did at Ferrari?

I think they do, it's just that we don't notice it because they do most of their setup work on a heavy fuel load.

Very amusing, even down to using the American spelling of analogue – typical of Matt's attention to detail.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 10:06

I took from that, he doesn't want to win it favouring one driver like he did at Ferrari?

Maybe. I will say this - regardless of championships in the past, I think Rubens has every opportunity to beat Button, but the simple fact is that he is not good enough. I'm starting to tire of hearing all of the excuses about this and that - it's like the world is against poor little Rubens.

Just look at my analysis from Spain - Button won because of consistency not conspiracy...

  • Christine09/06/2009 at 10:07

Well maybe, I'm not sure I believe him though

It makes sense, though. He'd be happy to win a championship any way possible, but it's bound to mean more if it wasn't manipulated.

I think hes enjoying the affections of the British public, something he never got at Ferrari, but if your a ruthless racer like brwan, i think satisfaction comes from knowing you only won by chucking the kitchen sink onto the track, and you did just that. Maybe thats just the way i think though :D

I wonder how much the Brawns were pushed in Turkey. You see with Rss, you never really know which wins were the easy ones.

The man is a tactical genius and he works best with a driver who is consistent and does what he needs to do. That man this year is Jenson Button ;)

  • Christine09/06/2009 at 10:16

I wonder how much the Brawns were pushed in Turkey. You see with Rss, you never really know which wins were the easy ones.

They have all looked pretty easy, haven't they? Not sure Button has been stretched towards the end of any race.

They have, but when you see how different Jenson and Rubens drive the race it makes you wonder...

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 10:20

Jenson is now only 2 wins off drawing level with Rubens in career wins, which is insane

So Berrnie thinks Jenson's domination of the championship is a bad thing!

Shame we didn't adopt his silly medals system them isn't it? We could all go home after Hungary then couldn't we?

  • Alianora La Canta09/06/2009 at 11:04

    Well we’ll see - I just added a drop-down box to pick the Circuit for ease - but you may not like it. Your sheet is brilliant, I just tweaked it to suit my analyses… {Comment #141}

That sounds like a very good idea, especially if the list picks up the names from the circuit table through, say, a LOOKUP command. I wonder if there's a way of doing it that doesn't invoke third-party code (I can call it that because I use Openoffice.org to do spreadsheets)?

  • me09/06/2009 at 11:05

  • Alianora La Canta09/06/2009 at 11:07

    And of course, the same goes for the annual F1R subscribers quiz at Whittlebury Hall, hosted by yrs truly… {Comment #142}

I would love to have gone to that, but unfortunately I can't. It clashes with the hog roast at the campsite I'm at and since Dad's having to miss the hog roast at his sailing club to come to the race, he wants to at least get the food he was expecting, even if the people he's with are strangers.

It's a pity because I love quizzes, especially on subjects I've read about before turning up...

Hope you have a great time and your hosting goes smoothly.

Thanks. It fills out the circuit box so the Lookup function populates the correct circuit values in the fuel and time penalty parts of the table. It's just a different way of doing it from typing it in. You will see later anyways ;)

I know "Lightspeed" is a dirty word around here, but as a Lotus fan since the days of Jim Clarke, I'd be glad to see the name back on the circuits again. I admit I would prefer it to be in the hands of a more credible organization, but you cant have it all.

It wont be the same, if lotus had remained in f1 and ended up being run by litespeed, it would be different, but for them to just jump in with a lotus bumpersticker seems wrong.

a comment especially for flibster... all about microsoft.

apparently the xbox zune live will be able to stream 1080p video in real-time but you'll need a minimum 10-12Mb/s broadband connection to use it.

that's probably about 6 people in the uk, but we can't accuse MS of not pushing boundaries.

    Is it good or bad news if Setanta goes bust? What would happen to something like GP2 or SuperLeague on TV? {Comment #150}

I guess they'll have a lot less revenue than expected, unless they manage to find an alternate deal for 2010 and beyond. Even then they won't be on British TV for the rest of this year. I do worry that it might sink Superleague if Setanta's contribution hasn't been paid yet because I can't see where it's getting its money from other than broadcasters.

I may have lost track here, but does Setanta still do the Irish F1 coverage? If so, what would be the implications to itself, Bernie and Irish F1 fans?

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 11:15

I'm all for digital distribution, but it has to be alongside physical media. MS are trying to hide their mistakes and have no choice to go for it. Its great for people in the big cities in America, but vast swathes of the country simply don't have it. What happens in Europe as always with gaming is an afterthought.

  • Alex Andronov09/06/2009 at 11:20

To those who were saying things for Scott yesterday...

The current 3G price will not be cut when the new 3G S comes out:

The price cut applies to the 8GB iPhone 3G which will cost $99 from 19 June. However, UK iPhone operator O2 has confirmed that the price cut will not apply in the UK.

And so for what he paid he could still only get exactly the same phone. And of course he'll get all of the new version 3.0 software for free :)

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 11:21

You don't have to download anything with Chrome. Unless you've changed anything it updates itself without asking you (it doesn't change the registry which means you can install it + updates without Admin rights on your machine).

  • Christine09/06/2009 at 11:22

Well we did. But because of O2s odd pricing strategy it means that for what Scott could afford he would get the same exact phone either way.

Some Random Thoughts For The Great & The Good To Ponder

    1) Limit Friday's sessions to only drivers who have never been in a GP

    2) Bring back testing but for one week only, the teams have to nominate where and when before the season starts.

    3) Award points for Pole & Fastest Race Lap

    4) Drop 1/3 of cars/drivers in each Qualifying session

    5) Rule changes must be anounced at least two years prior to implementation.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 11:24

    And on the Force India thing, are they not bound to the contract with the FIA signed by a previous incarnation of the team, so Vijay doesn’t have much choice. {Comment #220}

That is correct. It is something else for which he can blame his predecessor Colin Kolles, who signed the 2008-2012 agreement with the FOM and FIA in late 2005. Naturally, the team have operated since then on the assumption that this would be respected, including the commerical department. Hence the sponsor obligations which Vijay cited as the official reason for jumping ship.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 11:27

    1) Limit Friday's sessions to only drivers who have never been in a GP

Not a fan of this - that would make Fridays very boring - and as things stand, only Buemi would be out there if this was in place this year.

    2) Bring back testing but for one week only, the teams have to nominate where and when before the season starts.

    Sounds good to me.

    3) Award points for Pole & Fastest Race Lap

I don't like giving away points just for that - it destroys the racing a bit.

    4) Drop 1/3 of cars/drivers in each Qualifying session

The current one is good enough as it is. Why change it?

    5) Rule changes must be announced at least two years prior to implementation.

This should've been a rule a long time ago. Obviously, Max isn't a fan of this one.

  • me09/06/2009 at 11:27

  • Mawech09/06/2009 at 11:32

The current one is good enough as it is. Why change it?

Because we may well have more cars on the grid and it seems a shame to loos so many after Q1

I don't like giving away points just for that - it destroys the racing a bit.

Teams that probably won't get to the podium may well fuel light to pick up these points, and consequently mix it up a bit. As for the fastest lap point drivers who won't win (Like Rubbie) can still score.

Well no doubt the sponsers signed up for the period to which the team would be in Formula One (2008-2012) so it is possible that the two are connected.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 11:35

Because we may well have more cars on the grid and it seems a shame to loos so many after Q1

For a 26-car grid, 8 cars are dropped after every Quali session.

I've just discovered I'm not as fit as I thought I was as a 10 minute bike ride (non-stop) has left me worn out. Good job I have all summer to work on this :D

  • Christine09/06/2009 at 11:35

Really like Dank's survival tips for Silverstone: http://www.red-bullog.com/2009/06/09/surviving-silverstone/

    Camping? Don't do it.

I didn't realise camping was so common with European races.

I am not doing it. Ever.

Mr C, this bit is for you: You might guffaw, but the number of painfully pink-looking people dotted around the track each year never fails to amaze me.

Yeah it's a no-brainer. It's amazing how quickly it happens too. Try and slap some on before 10ish and again after lunch if it's sunny...

  • Amy09/06/2009 at 11:40

I'm not really a drinker, so I can't dull the pain of camping. I'm definitely a walls + floor + ceiling + proper bed person.

YAY! I have a dislike for the people where I work who bike when its nice and sunny but as soon as it rains they are back in there cars.

When I work I also happen to do the same, although I only work once a week and I tend to be lazy the rest of the week

I think I'm going to have to buy a new iPhone which, thanks to O2s annoying pricing strategy is going to be very expensive.

So maybe no mbp. Although I want the new larger one quite badly.

    What is that exactly?

  • Amy09/06/2009 at 11:58

ooh ooh OOH cheap flights to NZ *books flight home*

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 11:59

  • Alex Andronov09/06/2009 at 11:59

    tethering is really compelling.

Did you see the pricing from O2?

    3GB £14.68 a month Unlimited in 5,000 hotspots via The Cloud 30 days 19.6p a MB

    or

    10GB £29.36 a month Unlimited in 5,000 hotspots via The Cloud 30 days 19.6p a MB

The problem is I can't use that as an excuse for a new iPhone as that's part of the new software.

Have you noticed that when it comes to the prospective rule changes

    The FIA have their consultations

    FOTA have their consultations

    The GPDA have their consultations

But us the folk who have to PAY we're ignored

  • Amy09/06/2009 at 12:00

Thsi was more of a skype workaround, but if you get a USB dongle at the same time as an iphone, take it apart and get the sim card out of it, swap it with the one in your phone. You will have to use skype to make calls, but other than that you have a phone with a massive data allowance.

Really hope they hold max all the way on this, his latest letter to the teams says just sign up under the costing cutting regs and then they'd work something out. Like the teams will trust him on that!!!

  • Christine09/06/2009 at 12:25

    It's my fault sorry.

    Doesn't bother me either way.

Really hope they hold max all the way on this, his latest letter to the teams says just sign up under the costing cutting regs and then they'd work something out. Like the teams will trust him on that!!!

It also gives the new teams an equal vote with the existing ones. Max has stacked the deck with people who will vote the other way.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 12:26

    Sony Power !!!

My PSP + PS3 + Vaio + Walkman + Bravia + Sony HiFi + DVD player agree. Why don't the stereos have a snappy brandname?

Sony are overpriced, overhyped and have horribly evil warranties.

Soz, I used to sell their stuff in a former life. Mum had to threaten to get a camera fixed under warranty...

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:26

Really hope they hold max all the way on this, his latest letter to the teams says just sign up under the costing cutting regs and then they'd work something out. Like the teams will trust him on that!!!

But at the same time, the longer this drags on, the more damaging it will be for F1. It will be best for everyone concerned to find a compromise and move on. As Joe said, dragging Max out now is a 50-50 thing. And who knows what can happen if Max survives a coup.

  • Amy09/06/2009 at 12:26

Soz, I used to sell their stuff in a former life. Mum had to threaten to get a camera fixed under warranty...

oh yes, I have a camera too. I know their stuff is over priced but its so preeeeetty. This is why I cannot fault apple fans too much, I am just as sucked in ;)

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 12:27

My PSP + PS3 + Vaio + Walkman + Bravia + Sony HiFi + DVD player agree. Why don't the stereos have a snappy brandname?

I still use old school memory sticks, they fit in my wallet far better than anything else i have found

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 12:27

Cool - and a bit curious as to what FOTA will say by the end of today.

Me too, was reading Autosport earlier (one of my procrastination techniques) and found this...(From Mr Mosley)

"To this end, if you do intend to enter, it would be helpful if you would let us have drafts of the precise rules you wish adopted, as much of the Enclosure 3 submitted by FOTA on behalf of the 2009 teams is currently in the form of minutes and statements of intent rather than the clear rules which you [and we] seek."

Kinda makes me think that Max wants them in, even if he won't admit it

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 12:27

    Guys,

Was F2 worth watching? Just that I could make a DVD for the trip down to Le Mans and if they were good races I will make them into the DVD...

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 12:28

Kinda makes me think that Max wants them in, even if he won't admit it

Max can't make up his mind, no doubt after the FOTA response he will come out with something else.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:28

Kinda makes me think that Max wants them in, even if he won't admit it

And he does! Which makes me think that if FOTA do decide to enter today, they may still emerge as victors over Max. Of course it all depends on how it plays out...

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 12:29

Was F2 worth watching? Just that I could make a DVD for the trip down to Le Mans and if they were good races I will make them into the DVD...

yeah, it's not the best racing i've seen, but still pretty good

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:30

Time to stick my neck out:

I predict FOTA will indeed decide to enter the championship today, while the FIA will indeed decide to adopt much of FOTA's proposals for 2010. In other words, a compromise.

Are their egos too big for it? Perhaps, but those 100,000+ fans disguised as seats in Turkey may give them the hint...

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 12:30

And he does! Which makes me think that if FOTA do decide to enter today, they may still emerge as victors over Max. Of course it all depends on how it plays out...

I don't know what to think anymore, part of me would like to see a FOTA breakaway because if done properly they could really be amazing....but.....

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:30

I predict FOTA will indeed decide to enter the championship today, while the FIA will indeed decide to adopt much of FOTA's proposals for 2010. In other words, a compromise.

By this, I mean FOTA will announce that they will unconditionally enter the 2010 championship.

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 12:30

    I would agree

If its going to happen it will happen today, but i wont be putting money on it. I cant see anything being archived with a deadline of TOMORROW

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:32

    I would agree

I'm surprised someone agreed with me that quickly! :D Anyone else?

so what do you think will happen, Nick? care to try your luck at being mystic? :D no money involved, anyhow. ;)

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 12:34

I'm surprised someone agreed with me that quickly! :D Anyone else?

haha. to be honest, i think they have too. a compromise is how it will work out, but it'll interesting to see who announces it....if Max announces it it will be "I was great and came to a compromise" if FOTA do it's "we were great, and decided to have a compromise"

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:34

how about a joint statement saying "we did it for the good of the sport". No losers. ;)

it'll probably be FOTA, then - they've been mentioning for weeks that they were open to a compromise.

    what would you call it?

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:41

    what would you call it?

How about the Grand Prix World Championship? I'm sure someone still owns that trademark. ;)

  • Amy09/06/2009 at 12:41

    what would you call it?

    Formula Finn ;)

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 12:41

so what do you think will happen, Nick? care to try your luck at being mystic? :D no money involved, anyhow. ;)

Well at this stage FOTA have 2 options, wait until June 12th, i.e. the hardball game (F1 Politck) or try and do what max wants them to do and reform F1 from the inside.

I think the teams know how much they can trust Max, but the biggest issue for them is a Concorde agreement, if progress was made on that this weekend then they could sign. If it hasn't, i cant see them entering without conditions that it will be.

The teams are demanding 2 things a) money b) power. they will probably settle for just one. Either Bernie gives them 'a' or max gives them 'b'. Given the personalities its an interesting debate as to who should give in!

The teams have been beaten by hardball tactics too often, i think they will hold there nerve until Friday, but we could see the beginnings of the solution today.

  • RCC (aka rockingcopsecorner)09/06/2009 at 12:44

I would like it all sorted out today, since tickets for 2010 go on sale tomorrow

Really?! I wonder if Donnington will be on the list, don't really know if i wanna go there next year or Spa. Thinking of doing Spa and drive to Monza for a all in one holiday with the lady.

  • Jay09/06/2009 at 12:44

    Speaking of a breakaway:

Carmelo Ezpeleta could be the figure FOTA turns to if the major formula one teams decide to quit formula one at the end of the year, according to the Spanish sports newspaper Diario AS.

    ...

The newspaper said FOTA has already had contact with Ezpeleta, who would be reportedly willing to take command of a breakaway.

    http://formula-1.updatesport.com/news/article/1244535872/formula_one/F1headlines/FOTA-in-MotoGP-link/view.html

I still think the compromise is more likely than any breakaway.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:44

Indeed. It will really hinge on how the Elite Eight view their current position...

They don't usually release British GP tickets until after the GP

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 12:45

    Formula Finn ;)

    Didn't see that coming ;)

  • Amy09/06/2009 at 12:46

not all of them are on sale, advance sale tickets for Melbourne are for people who went this year.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:46

    Speaking of a breakaway:

It's GMM, so take caution. Oddly enough, MotoGP fans don't think much of Ezpeleta. Take a look at this:

    http://www.motogpmatters.com/news/2009/06/08/ezpeleta_could_lead_f1_breakaway_champio.html

I still think the compromise is more likely than any breakaway.

Indeed. FOTA has said as much.

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 12:48

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 12:50

cool! :D but the race would now be 4 AM rather than 6. Isn't that rather late?

  • RCC (aka rockingcopsecorner)09/06/2009 at 12:51

They don’t usually release British GP tickets until after the GP

That's what I thought, I do think I remember seeing an option to reserve a ticket for the 2010 Donnington GP on their website but don't remember the whole package being available.

owuld make sense though to not sell them yet considering it's still a muddpit!

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 12:52

owuld make sense though to not sell them yet considering it's still a muddpit!

if it went to silverstone the donnington tickets would work there too

  • Amy09/06/2009 at 12:52

Stupid Brazil hours :( The reason I realised I have to come home on Sunday is because I have to be back at work on Monday but I'll be mighty tired anyway. Last year lots of us were because since it was the championship deciding race lots of people who were only casual fans watched, maybe this year I'll be the only bleary eyed one :(

  • me09/06/2009 at 12:57

    It’s my fault sorry.

    actually, it's f1's fault.

if the sport didn't dump on the fans every other week i might be interested in talking about it. if the sport wasn't run by a megalomaniac hell bent on destroying everyone, i might be interested in talking about it. if the cars weren't ugly and we had some overtaking i might be interested in talking about it.

we keep digressing in the comments, because f1 is in a pretty bad state right now.

  • Jay09/06/2009 at 13:02

Lets talk of happier times :P what was the first race you remember watching? mine was Brazil 2003 :)

  • Christine09/06/2009 at 13:02

It's the limbo-land thing that gets me. What's the point in talking about a sport when it might not have a future?

it will end today if FOTA indeed decide to announce they will enter unconditionally.

    but that's a gigantic if.

I must admit I'm starting to lose a bit of interest. It's not because of Brawn or Button because I sat through years of the German one winning and was OK with that. This FIA-FOTA-paper tiger thing is getting silly and it's draining my patience while watching...

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 13:05

    What's happening today?

FOTA is set to reply to Max's letter from yesterday. They'll reply by the end of today.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 13:05

    Same old, same old.

  • Jay09/06/2009 at 13:07

FOTA is set to reply to Max's letter from yesterday. They'll reply by the end of today.

And then Max will reply to that if he doesn't like what they say, its a never ending circle. They would get more achieved if they were all sat in the same room.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 13:07

    Same old, same old.

We shall see. As Nick said, if something's gonna happen, it'll probably happen today.

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 13:07

It's the limbo-land thing that gets me. What's the point in talking about a sport when it might not have a future?

I don't think its going to disappear, we might just end up with 2 futures running parallel.

Everyone says how bad it will be, but i don't think the sport has been run all that well for a long time, i cant see how change can come without a breakaway to be honest.

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 13:08

I must admit I'm starting to lose a bit of interest. It's not because of Brawn or Button because I sat through years of the German one winning and was OK with that. This FIA-FOTA-paper tiger thing is getting silly and it's draining my patience while watching...

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 13:08

    exactly how i feel.

The worst part is the recycled team names. I am a student of F1 history and it's the ultimate B******isation of these classic and legendary names to see them dragged thru the mud by Max and his mental agenda. Litespeed as Lotus? Eff off, they couldn't hold a candle to Chapman et al!

  • Christine09/06/2009 at 13:09

I'm just sick of it all, the only bit of F1 i like at the moment is the community bit, SPC et all

We are taking suggestions for SPC's rebranding exercise at the end of the year. I say Sidepodpanda, Your Weekly Panda Fix. Mr C ain't so keen.

Love it!!! Way to go, i do think though we need the politics though (in moderation)! Hence my article yesterday to you.

Lets talk of happier times what was the first race you remember watching? mine was Brazil 2003

I remember seeing two red cars chasing the pack in the mid 80's when i was a nipper (born 82) but the first proper race i watched was Silverstone 1992. Next one i rememeber is South Africa 1993, Mark Blundell on the podium!!

2 people doing the tyres at a time, but the way they've done it, teams still have the same amount of people doing them, just 2 at a time....and they've done ti so that tyres will be left on their own, so they may roll down the pitlane etc etc. it could be baaaad

    Always.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 13:52

OK - well, we have a Candy Washer-Dryer, and we suspected that it has been not drying the clothes properly for weeks. During the race on Sunday (which is always when this s*** happens) I started to smell a weird plasticky smell. So I had a quick look around the flat and noticed smoke pouring from the kitchen. So I ran in and lo and behold it was the washing machine!

It looked a lot like Kimi's KERS failure in Melbourne actually - it did this a couple of weeks ago and the repairman blamed a short circuit - the inside fuse was black and melted through. But this time the smoke was thicker and much more acrid (the kitchen still stinks) and the best part - the shop doesn't want to exchange it under warranty until it breaks three times, even though it's now a fire risk!

Next time I'm buying a German one. I had a washer/dryer before and they're a lot of Piquet, so never again :(

    Back to F1.

Did someone ask earlier on to-day "What was the first F1 event you attended?"?

I not then I'm asking it now; if so then my answer is the 1967 Gold Cup at Oulton Park; proper racing

Next time I’m buying a German one. I had a washer/dryer before and they’re a lot of Piquet, so never again

I bought a flat in London a few years ago and the previous owners left their Candy washer-drier. They claimed it was only a couple of years old (it looked more aged than that). Still, it broke within a month – and I hadn't even used it as a drier!

    Got an AEG now.

  • Stuart C09/06/2009 at 14:25

Is there anyone left in motorsport Red bull don't sponsor?

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 16:02

I know "Lightspeed" is a dirty word around here, but as a Lotus fan since the days of Jim Clarke, I'd be glad to see the name back on the circuits again. I admit I would prefer it to be in the hands of a more credible organization, but you cant have it all.

The people behind Litespeed are ex-Lotus

They have visited Lotus Cars and Engineering to arrange the use of Lotus Technology

I believe they also have the support of CTL

Plus, they are extremely likely to have a sponsor.

Since Lotus left F1, David Hunt has been in contact with Hitachi and they have always been on board with Lotus coming back to F1 and standing behind them with sponsorship.

Hitachi Lotus Cosworth sound good? At least 2 bits of that sound fantastic to me. ;)

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 16:03

The people behind Litespeed are ex-Lotus

They have visited Lotus Cars and Engineering to arrange the use of Lotus Technology

I believe they also have the support of CTL

Will it be enough to get them through, though, assuming FOTA decide to enter and there's only 3 spots left?

  • me09/06/2009 at 16:04

The people behind Litespeed are ex-Lotus

so why do the appear to be utter useless in f3 (or whatever it is they currently compete in)?

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 16:07

Will it be enough to get them through, though, assuming FOTA decide to enter and there's only 3 spots left?

How many of the other teams could have a title sponsor in place?

It's the number of entries for those 3 spots that are surprising to me.

It'd be good to see March, Brabham and Lotus back, but at the expense of Aston Martin (Ok - it'll be Prodrive for at least 2 years) or Lola or USF1?

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 16:09

so why do the appear to be utter useless in f3 (or whatever it is they currently compete in)?

Pass. Haven't watched any F3 in ages.

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 16:13

so why do the appear to be utter useless in f3 (or whatever it is they currently compete in)?

    thats an easy question...

    2 words

    Dallara Mercedes

Dallara basically have a 90% of world wide F3 cars, same with Mercedes engines (up until 08)

It's like having Ferrari's domination over those 5 seasons (or however long it was) and then saying to a brand new team...."go beat them"

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 16:16

so why do the appear to be utter useless in f3 (or whatever it is they currently compete in)?

It's their own car and it does seem to be a proper Lotus. ;)

    Lightweight, fast, unreliable. ;)

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 16:19

Actuallu - has anyone seen the full letter from Thwax to FOTA yet?

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 16:21

    thats an easy question...

basically..i think they've only been making F3 cars for 2 years? it would be insane to think they could compete with the likes of dallara in that time, Dallara have been winning for aaaaaaaaaaaages

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 16:23

Actuallu - has anyone seen the full letter from Thwax to FOTA yet?

What you need to know about Pressdog in a nutshell is that a lot of IRL insiders read it. He started covering F1 last year and my lengthy comments as replies inspired me to start my blog.

Well, that's very cool. Well done for getting a shoutout and getting us one along the way :)

AHA. They have been suspended just to make the logo right, not because they signed up for 2010

Hello. I shouldn't be here as I have tons of college stuff to do tonight and tomorrow, but one of the biggest US open wheel racing bloggers has read the plug of SPC on my blog.

    nice one!

    Anyone here read Pressdog.com?

i do. someone called pat recommended it.

How many of the other teams could have a title sponsor in place?

i don't know flibster, but then i'm assuming neither do you?

  • me09/06/2009 at 16:55

It’s like having Ferrari’s domination over those 5 seasons (or however long it was) and then saying to a brand new team….”go beat them”

ok. but they couldn't. and now they think they can jump stright into f1? did they not consider maybe looking at gp2 first?

  • Pat W09/06/2009 at 16:55

i do. someone called pat recommended it.

    Ah. :-)

  • me09/06/2009 at 16:56

    Lightweight, fast, unreliable

no-one could beat them without alot ot time and a huge amount of money.

plus gp2 is a one make series, they designed and built the f3 car

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 16:58

ok. but they couldn't. and now they think they can jump stright into f1? did they not consider maybe looking at gp2 first?

It does seem like they are running before they can walk.

Make the F3 car fast. Then do a sportscar LMP1 or LMP2 car. Then do F1.

  • me09/06/2009 at 16:59

if piquet joined them, then we could bet on whether he'd crash or whether teh car would break down first

surely the bets should be whether the trucks can afford the fuel to make it to the circuit?

LMP2 maybe, but you have to have supreme budgets to be top class P1 and F3 cars, if you went into F1 you'd have a (Comparitively) huge budget.

Don't get me wrong, they're going to be shocking, as all the other new teams will be, but their F3 car isn't an example of their shockingness

  • me09/06/2009 at 17:03

I got an email from them saying they are moving away from the 4OD application and going web-only. The app is horrible, based on Kontiki which likes to start itself and run in the background even when the app is closed. Same as the old iPlayer. Going web-only is excellent.

If this is true (and it's from the Beeb, so I have no reason to doubt it), it's a shame I didn't put any money on my neck-sticking earlier.

BBC Sport understands FOTA teams will remove conditions for entry to 2010 and discuss new regs and rules with FIA representatives!

    Oh well...Thwax wins again.

But are they allowed to change their entry or do they have to submit new entries?

  • Chris_Humphreys09/06/2009 at 17:28

But are they allowed to change their entry or do they have to submit new entries?

lets hope they are all there next year

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 17:29

But are they allowed to change their entry or do they have to submit new entries?

They'll be allowed to change their entry - FI did it.

    Oh well...Thwax wins again.

But does he really? If FOTA gets their way with the rules, I would think they've outflanked Max on this one. Besides, Max's statement from yesterday was a bit... begging? That's the way Jon and I see it anyway...

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 17:30

I think they are stalling to make sure they are on the entry for next year. This weakens the bargaining position of both of them, It makes a breakaway really unlikely, but the idea of a protest strike at a race this year even more likely. Im betting the race closest to the FIA elections...

  • RG09/06/2009 at 17:31

Im betting the race closest to the FIA elections...

Would that be Abu Dhabi? Might make the organisers angry with the FIA in that case.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 17:33

Would that be Abu Dhabi? Might make the organisers angry with the FIA in that case.

Well, it would almost certainly be a dead rubber race (i.e. nothing at stake except the race win), so FOTA wouldn't have much to lose. But still, a race boycott would just make everyone look bad.

  • Chris_Humphreys09/06/2009 at 17:33

Yup. Teams join unconditionally. All he needs to do now is discuss options with the teams. He doesn't have to follow them as the regs are already in place - if he doesn't agree with what they want the current regs stand and he has the teams gentlemens areas in a vice.

They must have some deal in place to concede to this. I feel sorry for all those fake tea,s who thought they were at least going to make a few quid selling their entries to the real teams

yup, that's what i was thinking. now, we really get to separate the men-entries from the boy-entries. Max will probably pick from USF1, Prodrive, Lola, Campos, and Litespeed/Lotus.

  • Steven Roy09/06/2009 at 17:40

But why would FOTA agree with it, then? What sign did they get from Max that they can trust him this time?

Max has told them the only way to change the regs is from the inside.

Once they are on the inside, he has no reason to change the regs.

Can anyone think of a valid reason to get Max to visit Dallas, Texas?

  • Chris_Humphreys09/06/2009 at 17:41

They have a famous school book store.

No. you have to take who the director gives you.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 17:42

Max has told them the only way to change the regs is from the inside.

Once they are on the inside, he has no reason to change the regs.

But again, FOTA aren't THAT stupid. I'm sure Max had to give them something else to even consider coming back in. If it's not power, it's money from Bernie (commercial revenues via a new Concorde?)

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 17:43

Can you stay on the same driver for the whole race

Not on Freeview. You can have that through the Kangaroo TVs, but they're only available at the circuits for GP weekends.

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 17:46

They have a famous school book store.

View from the 6th floor is meant to be pretty special.

But again, FOTA aren't THAT stupid. I'm sure Max had to give them something else to even consider coming back in. If it's not power, it's money from Bernie (commercial revenues via a new Concorde?)

    You'd think so..

I can't see any way this ends in favour of the teams.

  • Steven Roy09/06/2009 at 17:47

I assume there is a memorandum of understanding in place between the FIA and FOTA on what has been agreed. I assume KERS is dead and that some procedure for future changes has been agreed. I guess if this works and Max gets re-elected we should have another couple of years before it blows up again.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 17:47

    You'd think so..

I can't see any way this ends in favour of the teams.

Either an increased share in commercial revenue from Bernie and/or a guarantee from Max about the budget cap. Probably the former, possibly the latter.

She's 23, from Edinburgh, spent 6 months in Chicago last year and really likes Blues music. She's also a bit of a geek and has MCE qualifications *more than I have* She's also a qualified Nurse. One of my bosses questions - Do you still have the uniform?

Time to panic! We have to find an office, wire it all up and decorate it in 3 weeks. Oh, and a second assistant....

  • RG09/06/2009 at 18:09

    his laptop is clever ;)

    haha

    any reason?

Don't think so, dont have a required package needed.

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 18:10

    :D

You can see where his mind was. ;)

An office for who, exactly? For your assistant?

For the 3 of us - we're not all going to fit in my playroom. Perhaps just me and the nurse... but not all 3.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 18:10

For the 3 of us - we're not all going to fit in my playroom. Perhaps just me and the nurse... but not all 3.

You and the nurse, eh? ;)

Wait - your main office is your playroom?

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 18:11

    Yup.

FOTA won't let him have it that easy. read on to see how steven roy sees it, which Mr C and I agree with.

have just read it now. steven has a point, does make sense in all fairness. Although i will admit, i'm happier about the news that there's a new series of Futurama :D

there's a new series?! i'm surprised they've lasted this long the second time round. ;)

  • Lukeh09/06/2009 at 18:25

there's a new series?! i'm surprised they've lasted this long the second time round. ;)

comedy central has picked them up for an actual series rather than dvd movies which is awesome :)

they'll be very, very very very good with futurama, me thinks. comedy central has a lot of excellent stuff on it that it promotes very well, unlike Fox, who absolutely trashed futurama :(

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 18:29

Will we be playing "Where's Gavin?"

    Dude, I'm over here!

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 18:31

comedy central has picked them up for an actual series rather than dvd movies which is awesome :)

The DVD's are being converted into episodes as well. As was the plan all along.

  • Lukeh09/06/2009 at 18:32

The DVD's are being converted into episodes as well. As was the plan all along.

Indeed but they were DVD movies in the first place set in the way, as you say, so they could put them into episodes; the new stuff is back to the series' they did before :)

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 18:33

Hah! I posted a comment on James Allen's blog and I wrote a part about the dodgy link and recommended Windows Live Writer. That bit got removed - but he fixed the link ;)

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 18:34

Right, I think I can go to bed now. I DO want to watch LA-Orlando Game 3 tomorrow morning.

I'll miss the FOTA statement that they will indeed join for 2010, but hey, we more or less know what that statement should contain. ;)

    Night, everyone!

Do you think Orlando can win this one?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 18:35

I'm quite pleased that he did that because it means he can take constructive criticism, act on it and yet still allow the comment (mostly).

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 18:37

Do you think Orlando can win this one?

Game 3? Sure. The series? No way. :D

  • Steven Roy09/06/2009 at 18:38

Game 3? Sure. The series? No way. :D

They have 3 at home in a row. It will be really interesting if they win them all.

  • Journeyer09/06/2009 at 18:39

They have 3 at home in a row. It will be really interesting if they win them all.

Parting shot: I think Orlando can win 2 of 3. But I'm guessing LA will steal Game 4 from under their nose.

  • Steven Roy09/06/2009 at 18:43

I know "Lightspeed" is a dirty word around here, but as a Lotus fan since the days of Jim Clarke, I'd be glad to see the name back on the circuits again. I admit I would prefer it to be in the hands of a more credible organization, but you cant have it all.

No. What is the point of having the name when it is nothing to do with the original. I am also a long term Lotus fan and I would hate to see even a successful fake Lotus team.

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 18:48

Some Random Thoughts For The Great & The Good To Ponder

    1) Limit Friday's sessions to only drivers who have never been in a GP

    2) Bring back testing but for one week only, the teams have to nominate where and when before the season starts.

    3) Award points for Pole & Fastest Race Lap

    4) Drop 1/3 of cars/drivers in each Qualifying session

    5) Rule changes must be anounced at least two years prior to implementation.

    1) I don't like that idea. Race drivers get too little time in the car as it is. I would be happy to add a session exempt from all the engine and gearbox limits for reserve drivers.

    2) I am in favour of more testing. Teams have to be given the opportunity to improve their cars. I find it odd that we have a set of regulations that mandate incredibly expensive cars that it is too expensive to run. They should mandate less expensive cars so that they can afford to run them more.

    3) No. Points should only ever be for finishing positions. The points system needs to be overhauled nut I hate series where people get points for anything other than finishing positions.

    4) I don't like the system and tinkering with it won't make me any happier. We need to get back to the 12 lap system. Qualifying should be about a driver doing one fast lap within an hour not multiple laps at different times.

    5) Agreed and the same for the calendar. The circuit contracts are all multi-year deals so there is no need for the calendar to be delayed as much as it is.

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 19:06

    to watch poetry?

    It was on BBC2

I now know what the poet laureate is, not sure that has added anything to my knowledge base, but there you go. The only saving grace was that the programme was presented by Ian Hislop. If i see him again i will ask for an hour of my life back.

  • Alex Andronov09/06/2009 at 19:07

Mr C scoring the big points haul over in the SofaF1 championship!

That takes him to third place, but he's only one point ahead of Lou!

F1 is always about politics. This is still very tame compared to the early 80s stuff.

  • Jon Waldock09/06/2009 at 19:33

F1 is always about politics. This is still very tame compared to the early 80s stuff.

Which is fair enough, but it's still frustrating. Theres always politics going on, but not this type of politics

  • Jackie09/06/2009 at 19:33

F1 is always about politics. This is still very tame compared to the early 80s stuff.

I do usually enjoy the politics, its great if the racing is also good but we seem to have pants racing because the Brawns are winning everything and we're just left with the politics to discuss

I do usually enjoy the politics, its great if the racing is also good but we seem to have pants racing because the Brawns are winning everything and we're just left with the politics to discuss

The thing you always have to remember with all F1 politics is that whatever happens next year we will have the same teams running on the same tracks to the same rules more or less. There may be political change or financial change but in reality nothing changes.

We have Le mans this weekend to give us something else to talk about. I think the practice day is tomorrow.

  • Steven Roy09/06/2009 at 19:46

Original no longer exists - Litespeed has David Hunts blessing - needs it in fact to use the Lotus name.

Would it help to know that after Llitespeed visited Lotus - Lostus were looking for a larger autoclave?

    Thanks Jackie ;)

  • me09/06/2009 at 19:51

Why cant they put it on the normal web, i would pay for something like that!

because there's no micropayment model for the web. people expect everything for free.

you can charge on the iphone an earn money. real money.

  • Steven Roy09/06/2009 at 19:52

Would it help to know that after Llitespeed visited Lotus - Lostus were looking for a larger autoclave?

Are you serious suggesting the Lotus factory are going to make F1 monocoques?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 19:52

you can charge on the iphone an earn money. real money.

The best part about the app store is that there's no try before you buy - so even if it's pants you still paid for it! Genius!

  • Nick09/06/2009 at 19:52

you can charge on the iphone an earn money. real money.

the only downside is it's basically useless between races and during the off season.

I guess the option to watch sessions back when you wanted would cure F1 boredom. For a while, at least.

  • lou09/06/2009 at 19:58

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)09/06/2009 at 20:00

where did you get that figure from?

It's race-specific. That app only works for the British GP...

  • Jackie09/06/2009 at 20:00

The price will come down if people don't subscribe

  • lou09/06/2009 at 20:00

i thought it was like £5 a race? (i could be totally wrong, it's been a confusing day for me and i'm shattered, sorry if i am)

  • Flibster09/06/2009 at 20:00

    Cheers, im looking into it

If you're looking for an early Elise, the 135's and 160's are the ones to look at.

Or for something a bit flashier, the Gold Leaf, JPS or classic colour schemes are always cool. :D

  • Scott Woodwiss09/06/2009 at 20:01

It is a tad expensive - even if you could watch the race on it that would still be priocey!

It's like KangarooTV on your iPhone. Only without the video feeds. And 5Live. Cheaper though.

  • me09/06/2009 at 20:01

i thought it was like £5 a race? (i could be totally wrong, it's been a confusing day for me and i'm shattered, sorry if i am)

Hello folks. Just done watching this weekend's race after my holiday this weekend. Almost managed to avoid finding out who won until I watched it but managed to see a featurette a man was reading in the paper at work today. That was annoying!

  • lou09/06/2009 at 20:04

It's worse when you think you have made it. It is almost better to find out straight after the race.

It doesn't say anything about a season pass, just access to data from the Monaco, Turkish and British GP's

  • Alison09/06/2009 at 20:12

He's just usually so cheery. Even when he's been skelped by Button before he usually talks about it with a wry smile. He just seemed really dejected today.

Looks like it. LewHam and a load of mechanics come out of a box, put the Scalextic track together, set him off and then he stops as a big dog lauds. He kinda stares it down and carries on. :D

Its not too far wide of the mark, the bbc were reporting it earlier, just watch out for the letters "GMM" they are the spewage pipe

Roger that. I just compared the two articles and they are very similar. I notice that sometimes GPupdate does the he said/he said between drivers, I suspect looking for an escalation.

    Christine

I'm just sick of it all, the only bit of F1 i like at the moment is the community bit, SPC et all

We are taking suggestions for SPC's rebranding exercise at the end of the year. I say Sidepodpanda, Your Weekly Panda Fix. Mr C ain't so keen.

He shouldn't be afraid of change

It's a very old chair base. Just had new tops added to it over the years. At one point is had a Recaro race seat on it

    sidepodspace update.

I don't think the space shuttle will be launched on time. It's launch is scheduled for 7:17 am EDT / 12:17 pm UK which fits nicely in the gap between warm up and the race. Given how their last landing went when it was scheduled for the Friday of Monaco this is bound not to work.

  • Christine09/06/2009 at 21:26

I will be on it as midnight hits? Strawberry as a present?

Good plan. Although, does it still count as thoughtful to give a present that she had to save from the brink of destruction?

  • Steven Roy09/06/2009 at 23:50

Does that mean the unofficial countdown has begun?

It means they are doing everything to get a launch on Saturday. You could argue the unofficial countdown started years ago when they started designing the bits they are taking up.

    Or thinking about designing them

Just watched the Red Bull air races and F1 could learn a thing or 20 from it. The run takes 1 and a half minutes and about half through the stewards announced that they were investigating the pilot for not taking a gate correctly. 10 seconds later he had a penalty. All penalties are fixed so no disputes. The TV coverage is a generation ahead of F1.

unfortunately i cannot tell you how windows fairs against apple for reasons of strict confidentiality (and the fact the mac is loosing).

    And no FF3.5 beta ;)

konquerer 3 = Not updated since Oct '07

[Come on peeps, own up - who is it?]

  • Steven Roy09/06/2009 at 23:56

Exactly. The schedules are set so far ahead that you can go all the way back to the day they started talking about the ISS.

I was just clicking through some stuff on the Le Mans site when I found a very interesting page. Unfortunately it is in Frnch and the English version will not open but what caught my eye is that they are offering runs in a tw seat F1 car fro 50 Euros. I don't know what the car is or even if it is only F1 ish but 50 Euros is nothing for that.

    5) Rule changes must be announced at least two years prior to implementation.

Making the FIA announce them at least two weeks prior to impelentation would be a start, although not one Max would appreciate.

Sixth form didn't give me much rest either. Also, look out for the possibility of a bumper load of summer homework (which I found awful, because I'm the sort of person who needs to do school-related work in school)...
