You know it is a slow news day when the daily post reverts to telling you what kind of public holidays are being celebrated on the date in question. Today, 10th June is Portugal Day in... well, Portugal, obviously. I don't know what kind of celebrations take place on a day such as this, but I like it. Anyway, here's some F1 stuff:
- FOTA's response to Max's suggestion they fall under the budget scheme and work on the regulations like one big happy family was apparently "not entirely negative." Does that mean they said "no but nice idea"? Or perhaps the FIA are just playing it down for now. Roll on Friday is all I say.
- Nick Heidfeld is doing a Jenson (and to a lesser extent a Franck) and offering up a helmet design competition. We had one very happy commenter last week, when Lou picked up third place and a signed Brawn cap, so who wants to win Nick's prize? Tickets to the Nurburgring and a paddock entry.
- Mr C got quite excited about the mention of an F1 app in Will Buxton's blog, and wrote an entire post about it. Is it so, can it possibly be, that Bernie is starting to realise there is more to this internet thing than meets the eye?
That should do for now. I am going to quickly abuse my power here to wish my mother a happy birthday (and to provide a reminder to myself to do so in person later in the day), and as per usual, I'll see you in the comments.
Hello Wednesday!
Happy Birthday to Mr C's Mother-In-Law ;)
Great, now I need to convince my bosses to buy me an iPhone "for work purposes..."
Happy Wednesday everyone. Less than 84 hours till LeMans.
I don't know... maybe he should put a image of Chris Amon on his hat because he is the modern equivelent. I really want Nick and Mark Webber to win a race if not this year, sometime.
Mark, quite likely
Nick, much less so [at least, this year anyway]
I'm trying ok! :P
You're spending too much time on the naughty step and not enough in the simulator
If you get rid of the beard, you should lose about 5. Kilos, that is.

Not cheap though
Engadget article
If there's a form of media I think I'm particularly strong at, it's video editing. Thankfully Forza 3 will help develop this as they're letting players save replays and such as .wmv files which makes it very easy to create and share videos within the FM community. I'm aiming for the video editors leaderboard ;)
just reading frank's words in tony's latest column:
"...manufacturer engines are just magic bits of kit. They go wrong very rarely and of course they bring great prestige."
doesn't sound like a man keen to run a cosworth in a hurry.
So long as he keeps Kaz, that Toyota deal will stay sweet.
not if toyota leave.
Is there no alternative, really?
They have the engines, unless FOTA agree not to supply there is no reason not to.
They might still produce engines if they can sell enough of them and keep some folk employed. Save a bit of face
they're not going to put out a press release saying "we fundamentally disagree with max, so are leaving f1... except... ummm... actually, the engines are staying for a year."
are they?
They could just say the engines will represent us in a minor formula, also would be a handy argument in court cases...
It would be a big debate.. for sure
but why would they bother?
No chance. No-one in history has done that
They get paid for them, and free testing?
In my opinion its a 50/50 call
they don't though, at least nothing major. that's why kaz is in the seat.
Just because it hasn't been done before doesn't mean it won't happen, if it makes a profit, why close an engine plant?
where is this profit?
The 'if' may not be a small one ;)
True... And leaving F1 an 1 engined formula would hurt it vs GP1
They won't make a profit.
still reading the same article. i love this quote on the subject of FOTA wanting peace, but also planning to scrap KERS:
"For a bunch of people who don't want a war they are lobbing a suspicious number of grenades."
:D
;)
Theoretically, the investment might be justified to keep the Toyota name in the sport. Maybe not, but we don't know anything for sure
[No F1 pun intended]
true. i am willy to stick my neck out though and say that if toyota leave f1, their engine's going with them. based on very little admittedly, i just don't see why they wouldn't up sticks and walk.
Reminds me of the Aliens line:
"peace, through superior firepower"
also a great one.
I cant see a breakaway next year, at the moment they are trying to damage max, if he doesn't go who knows whats up their sleeve, but i think if they have signed up for next year, then they will race and in the meantime campaign to either get a FOTA nominee elected to the FIA or to strip its power.
Powell Doctrine
But Kazu...
No, your right, it's for the best :)
:P
Honda left a team behind and took the engines with them. If Toyota left they would be far more worried about Cologne than a few people making engines
It's like the old Star Trek song
We come in piece. Shoot to kill, shoot to kill
If FOTA race next year on Max's terms, I've a feeling they may make him pay for it in the end. Maybe through the tabloids - no one wants that again
that is a great motto for fota.
There is an election in October, i think that might decide a lot.
True that :D
I don't trust Max or any election he may orchestrate
If he gets elected, expect trouble, if he doesnt, F1 could be rosy :D
...If its Bin Suleyum then i don't have a clue what he would do
@ Mr and Mrs C; please throw out my first voice message. I got interrupted with a phone call. I called back give a little feed back. Thanks.
Happy birthday Mrs. Christine's Mum! :)
Happy birthday Christine's Mum! :D You've raised your daughter very well, and we're proud of you. :)
Hamilton and Moyles after the news! Quick! Rush over to Radio 1. ;)
drop.io, anyone?
Can't you just get it via iPlayer? He'll be on at around 7:45-ish. ;)
yes indeeed! Happy Birthday Mrs Christine's Mum!!!!!
And he's on at exactly 7:45. :)
I'm at work, so not really!
TBH I'm not that bothered anyway...
ooh home from work just in time
You don't often hear the words Moyles and xactly on time very often!!
Button on BBC News, Hamilton on BBC Radio 1 - this is nuts. :D
that's very true! :D
poor Lewis's brain can't keep up with his mouth as he tries not to say 'everything is rubbish'
bets for when he says 'for sure'?
I just heard one!
and another!
ahh! another couple!
He needs to be reminded English is his first language
At least he's a bit more laid-back here. :)
Man, I'm glad it's not 7.56 here. That'd mean I had just started work.
Lewis wants to choose what to play, eh? ;)
I was on the phone earlier - what were his brain fade moments? :D
They were talking about last years car and how it was going in some sort of Mercedes "look it won" thing in Germany and they said "that was a nice car, I bet you wish you had it back" or something and he said "uh yeah" and then they started talking about how they know nothing about the technical side of F1 but they can tell the car is slow. So there was a lot of "um, er, yeah, its um, uh, yes" until he got back on the company PR-line :D
Ooooh... That's gotta hurt. :D
not THAT woman, please!
Lewis telling em to lie about a busted speedo! Hahahahaha!
I like all his "I drive slow" when everyone knows he got busted going rather fast in France.
"and my dad crashed a porsche"
He did admit he was caught speeding. He's implying he drives slower now ever since he got caught.
:D
I am sceptical ;)
I know it's no excuse, but you can imagine how they'd get caught so easily. Going from 200mph f1 cars to a road car, it's easy to go over the speed limit without realising, everyone does it at some point.
I hate how slow it feels when you drive long distance and you have to slow down to go through towns after spending an hour on the open road. I imagine any trip in a road car must feel like that when you go super-fast for a living :D
It's no excuse though. Sorry!
Of course, but it's easily done.
Ooooh... Lewis will be on TG in July...
They should invite Jenson this year too. ;)
I hope its dry this time!
Surely Lewis should have recognised his team mate as the Stig ;) ;)
A month! A month! Pah! ;)
:D
THAT WOMAN!
REMIND ME TO SHUT MY EYES THROUGH THE WHOLE SILVERSTONE WEEKEND
PAH! ;)
Why?
Cheesy shoutout, but give him credit for thanking the mechanics and the fans. :)
She's going to be there
Oh, I must've missed that. :) But you'll miss Heikki now...
I still maintain that although he's corporated-d up he's still a great guy!
my Heikki telepathy will let me know when its safe to look. Unless they're standing beside each other in which case all hope is lost.
He's OK, but he needs to show his real side more. This corporate side just stinks.
Conclusion: For Lewis, "for sure" is a filler phrase to say something when he's really not saying anything. :)
And with that, I'm off to an uber-delayed lunch. :)
12 Reasons to go to Le Mans
Like I needed any ;)
It's "You know" for Pie-eater and Mrs. Hospital...
Katy Perry meets Lewis Hamilton. Katy shrieks! :O
Ant's post-Turkey analysis:
http://www.pumamotorsport.com/2009/06/jenson-wins-again-but-webbers-comeback-is-complete/
Look at the last 2 paragraphs - is he quietly implying that he may drive for Prodrive next year? I'm sure he's talking to them, amongst other teams, but they must be the favorites for Ant at this point. Hmmm... ;)
Ant's already driving for ProDrive - in an Aston LMP1 at Le Mans...
I meant Prodrive F1. :P
And he was talking about driving for Prodrive at Le Mans a paragraph after he said he was talking to a number of folks for a 2010 F1 drive.
Yeah yeah yeah RTFA first, I know ;)
Ant is one of those guys who should be in F1 but isn't :(
With at least 6 new seats next year, and 2 of them probably belonging to Prodrive, he will be. :)
Does anyone now if the F1 Timming App is a one off payment or a every race payment
Every race, I think.
Hello to one and all.
How much is it every race?
Hey Christine,
I now have skype setup and running!
Check it out here: http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/06/09/theres-an-official-formula-1-iphone-app-and-it-rocks/
I have already read this.
Has anyone used this app yet!
Very good!
I think that post contains all the information we have so far.
I have. It rocks!
Unless GMM make up a story about it having live video or something ;)
Button on BBC News, Hamilton on BBC Radio 1 - this is nuts.
I was wondering how come I was hearing Jenson's dulcet tones on BBC Radio 4 at 8:55am - usually the F1 is at 7:25am between cricket and skittles.
By the way, <a href=http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8092000/8092649.stm>Jenson and a BBC reporter were in a Scalectrix race. Unfortunately the title gives the result away...
For some reason the link won't code correctly.
The close bracket is missing...
Morning All!
Is there any live commentating tonight on Le Mans Qualifying? I believe it’s on Eurosport at 6pm. All 3 drivers per car have to set a time within the hour! That’s a challenge alright! I’m looking out for Ant Davidson in the Aston Lola and Karl Wendlinger in the Saleen, Can’t wait!
Is there no alternative, really? {Comment #12}
Yes. Kamui Kobayashi and Something-or-other Hirate are slower than Kazuki Nakajima though, so Kazuki really is Frank's best option.
How much have you paid so far
www.RadioLeMans.com for commentary. Maybe Eurosport or MotorsTV will have pictures...
The close bracket is missing… {Comment #114}
It kept going missing every time I hit the submit button. I was typing it in, but it wouldn't stay put.
There won't be a thread, but you can bet we'll be talking about it.

Hmm, 2008 cars that were repainted as Brawns. They looked lovely!
There is an election in October, i think that might decide a lot. {Comment #40}
I think that will be too late, at least for 2010. Budgets will be committed elsewhere by then. The manufacturers may then decide to come back after the recession if the delegates vote Max out, but F1 will be F2-and-a-lot-pricier until then.
I am going to quickly abuse my power here to wish my mother a happy birthday {Original entry}
Happy birthday Christine's Mum :D
I went hunting...

I quite like her newest song, actually. Even if the Pussycat Dolls did shamelessly insert large portions of "I Will Survive" by Donna Summer into the tune...
Lewis telling em to lie about a busted speedo! {Comment #68}
Somehow I don't think that would work unless the policeman was having a good day (in which case the driver would get directions to the nearest garage with an informal but firm injunction to get there as soon as possible). Instead there'd be three more points for an essential part of the car not functioning...
So it's actually a song then? The last Alleycats song I heard sounded like mechanical strangling cats!
Just quickly while I'm on my break, you know the iphone OS 3.0 will be free to upgrade to on the 3g. Soon as I get that, I'm getting the tomtom app. Why pay 80 quid for one when I can get the software for like 5.99 or something, unless it's gonna be free which I doubt.
Good good!! There's quite few Formula 1 connected drivers there this year
Franck – Peugeot 908 TDi
Seb Bourdais – Peugeot 908 TDi
Ant Davidson – Lola Aston Martin
Jos Verstappen – Lola Aston Martin
Marc Gene – Peugeot 908 TDi
Alex Wurz - Peugeot 908 TDi
Pedro Lamy – Creation Judd
Christein Klien – Creation Judd
Allen Mcnish – Audi R15 TDi (it’s porn)
Bruno Senna – Oreca
Monteiro – Oreca
Olivier Panis – Oreca
Christien Albers – Audi R10 TDi
Leo Mansell – Ferrari 430
Mika Salo – Ferrari 430
Vicky Ickx – Creation Judd
Hmm? You lost me at Franck. :)
there were quite a few last year too.
I'm supporting TomK, McNish, Franck, Senna and the Pescarolo Peugeot
You forgot Nicolas Prost and Leo Mansell...
should have put him last in the list. She would have read the whole post that way. ;)
Call myself my a fan, tut
I actually only missed Prost!
So you did. Forgive me sir, I've only had 4 hours sleep - I'm so excited I couldn't sleep and I've already hyperventilated twice today...
who would have thought one day the senna, Prost and mansell names would all be at me mans together. Anyway, must dash, be back around quarter past 1 or so. Laters.
Isn't qualifying tomorrow?
Correct. It's a 6-hour test today!
So it’s actually a song then? The last Alleycats song I heard sounded like mechanical strangling cats! {Comment #129}
I take it you don't like it much? ;) :D
I don't know the one you like, but the one I don't like is that one where they talk about what they want to be when they grow up?
Good good!! There’s quite few Formula 1 connected drivers there this year {Comment #131}
Come on Allan, Ant, Sebastién and Tiago!
Vicky Ickx? Does Vanina have a sister or was that a typo? Good luck to her, whichever member of the Ickx family she is.
Ah the realisation it's Wednesday has just dawned on me...........
Doh, I thought i was one day closer to Silverstone then!
I don’t know the one you like, but the one I don’t like is that one where they talk about what they want to be when they grow up? {Comment #142}
No (I don't like When I Grow Up either). They've released a few more songs since then. I was referring to "Hush Hush", which I only heard this morning...
Funny article on the new iPhone!
No it's defo Vanina!!
I need to sleep more me thinks
Mika Salo is always exciting to watch in the Ferrari 430, loads of overtaking. He had a great race at Sebring...
I'm sure Amy will cheer for him ;)
him and Monteiro because I miss his face ;)
Daft question of the day: if someone asks for your 'direct mailing address' I'm pretty sure they're asking for a postal address rather than an Email one aren't they? Aren't they?!
Not his driving then?!!!!!! Bless.......
I am sure viewing figures amongst women would shoot up if they invented the invisible helmet
oooh presents?
umm, yes they usually are, yes.
wonder if the see through helmet has ever been attempted?? It was cool at singapore last year where you could see the drivers eyes etc (ie bricking it) while at high speed.
Believe the same chappy who laid on our tour of the Red Bull factory has contacted me via my blog today and asked me for it.
Wondering what's up his sleeves now!
[constantly whacking 'send/receive' in Outlook] :-)
give them both ;)
morning all, back from my exam. 3 left woop. how are we all?
He's in WTCC yuo know...
careful. you remember what happened the last time something exciting arrived in the post!
hope it's good stuff though :)
I don't like having to make an effort to follow another series I don't really care about ;)
It would be too difficult due to all the layers of protection between the inner and outer shells...
Fair enough. The WTCC is pretty poor!
Meh, is it bad I instantly thought that as well?!
Hopefully shouldn't be that as I'm complying with their terms and all that jazz. Will let you know when I do.
morning all
Radio Le Mans should be starting their first live show of Le Mans 09 soon...
11.15 by my reckoning, unless it means French time...
Scruiteenering report (chit chat with drivers i think) on nooow
Are women who watch F1 that transparent (pardon the pun?)
The ones that watch currently, I'd like to think not. Otherwise Buemi would have no fans ;)
The girls at work who "hate F1, thats sooooooo boring" all have an opinion on which drivers are and aren't good looking though from leafing through my F1 Racing mags.
him and Monteiro because I miss his face {Comment #149}
I miss his intelligence and the fact he used to give out free T-shirts (probably self-designed or friend-designed, given that he had to withdraw two due to spelling mistakes) in the paddock (no, I never got one; it was the generosity principle that made me think highly of him).
The intelligence definitely showed in his driving. The generosity... ...is difficult to demonstrate on-track while still looking like a professional racing driver.
morning all, back from my exam. 3 left woop. how are we all? {Comment #156}
I'm happy, thank you. Attempting to transcribe an interview using the iPlayer, and discovering that the subtitles are computer-generated, delayed and can have odd results - I'm pretty sure David Coulthard has never said "Ceri" in his life, for example...
#DaveGorman http://bit.ly/9c8SL It's um, well, um, it's... a dead mouse in a loaf of bread.
sometimes I love turning on the subtitles just for a laugh at how wrong they are.
Are women who watch F1 that transparent (pardon the pun?) {Comment #167}
I'm not and nor is my friend from the tram who supports Finns (on the basis that F1 is one of the few spheres of activity where Finns feature prominently in the UK). I imagine the Hello!-reading crowd would love transparent helmets though - until someone ends up like Mark Webber in Fuji 2007 and is sick in it...

Oh. Dear. Poor mouse, and I imagine the baker will be in bother as well...
sometimes I love turning on the subtitles just for a laugh at how wrong they are. {Comment #172}
Must be awkward for deaf people though, but manual live transcription would cause problems of its own...
Euuuugh .. fair point :D
Is it wierd I always seem to have subtitles on for dvd's? I dunno why, don't necessarily have any hearing problems... just like having subtitles on!
oh yeah, forgot about that :D whoops
Me too! I read better than I listen.
Is it wierd I always seem to have subtitles on for dvd’s? I dunno why, don’t necessarily have any hearing problems… just like having subtitles on! {Comment #177}
I quite often have them on when my parents have gone to bed and I don't want to wake them up. That works because there's time for the subtitles to be corrected properly and link up to the audio smoothly. It's when subtitling is done on the fly that it gets difficult, both to produce and to read...
Me too! I read better than I listen. {Comment #179
Same here. Hence why it's taken me nearly an hour to transcribe the four-minute interview I'm doing so far, and counting...
I noticed that in an airport - are subtitles auto-generated now because they get loads of words wrong...
I do that and it drives my family/friends nuts. No one wants to watch movies with me :(
It is a fact of life for me because either we have Danish text on for the wife or English so she can follow any words she might miss.
She doesn't coz she's super smart and fantastic at English...
I am so jealous at the multi-lingual skills of most Europeans. My Swiss friend speaks 4 languages fluently. I should call her Nico.
Max Mosley's son died of a drug overdose - Coroner's report
Just an FYI.
oh dear bbc.
"Max Mosley is the head of Formula One"
the thing you learn, eh?
Well if FOTA back down and give in, it's true isn't it? :(
"Mr Briatore, come and see me after race is finished for detention and lines."
I lived in Switzerland for a while and it's true they all speak German; Italian; French and English. Mind you that said the first three are all the national language of Switzerland (along with Romanch) and the last is the international language of Finance & Phama. So no surprise there then.

The BBC ones are (at least for live events; I'm not sure about pre-recorded stuff) and it wouldn't surprise me if other places did the same nowadays.

I thought that was Bernie and he simply hadn't exercised his power openly in this case because he wanted to know which side should win before overtly giving that side the power to do so?
Lewis Hamilton quotes from Radio 1 this morning
For those who thought Hamilton was a little too corporate this morning - there is no such thing as "off the record".
My colleague got into trouble because of that - he was asked for some info "off the record" and ended up hearing his own voice on the radio ... luckily he 'toed the party line' for once (something he wasn't especially known for) and he got away with it...
Just listening to an interview, some driver saying (paraphrase)
"my wife got the job done and i'm greatful that she did"
He was talking about his wife having his baby...
:D
Sounds like Alex Lloyd?
Not a clue, wasn't paying much attention..
Am watching Prime Ministers Questions, it's just a bit argument, like a big school play ground.
So what's new
Watch "Yes Prime Minister" - it's very true to real life!

The Houses of Parliament get like that at times. Sometimes I get the impression that the average Year 9 classroom would be as good at it as they are - they could certainly do more original insults...
I love how they insult each other and laugh at each other, but still call each other "honourable gentlemen" etc etc. hehehe
My wife's a teacher and she would never allow that kind of behavior in her class of 7 year olds
The speaker is like a teacher, and he does nothing, occationally stands up and makes everyone quiet, then they go back to how they were. It's exactly how it is in a classroom.
The honourable gentleman to my left respectfully smells of poop and has a face like a pig?

Ah, very pragmatic of him...
My point was it not how it is in a classroom the kids are much more grown-up
hehe, i don't mean all classrooms, some teachers are great, but the speaker is new and a bit like alot of supply teachers, our school never had any that could control classes, but thats what you get from Essex schools i guess

I wish my secondary school teachers had had the same attitude - some learning might have happened there between the ages of 11 and 16 between the hours of 8:30am and 3:15pm that way...

It's not about being on or off the record. It's more about the stuff he talks about, I guess. For much of the first half of the interview, he was just repeating stuff we already knew. He was better in the second half, though. Would've loved to see him choose a song to play, though. ;)
The Cure, Boys Don't Cry? ;)
Why on earth would anyone want to become the Prime Minister, all you get it critisised, and get shouted at. This is terrible
Thatcher got by fine. :)

Either they want to make a huge difference to their country or they want to be the most powerful person in the country.
For a while yes, but then it went a bit downhill at the end.
Becoming an MP i can understand, part of the cabinet maybe, but PM must be an insanely hard job.
No sane person would
I mean just look back a bit

You wouldn't call any of them "Well Balanced" would you?
haha, tis true
however, hugh grant did it, so how hard can it be ;)

Have just been playing the demo of a new 'V8 Superstars' game on the 360 that I'm sure is supposed to be based on Supercars V8... but has no tracks in Australia. Which is a little confusing...
Anyways, truly awful game based on that demo.
LOL!
truly awful game for a truly awful sport ;)
According to an OFCOM report, 8% of the British population wouldn't take a broadband connection even if they were offered a free PC, free connection and they had the skills to use it because they don't see the point of broadband internet.

sounds like my grandparents.
Yes we truly are a "Go-Ahead" Nation aren't we :-(
No offense, but... are they living under a rock or something?
We're British; we always have something to complain about ;)
No they're watching day-time TV and Soaps
technically motorsport is the sport.
sooo..... ;)
Strangely, my grandmother is a true silver surfer.
She thinks it's great. Buys all her birthday and christmas presents online, online christmas cards, email... Loves it.
She's 91 you know!
haha thats awesome!!
Brilliant. :D She's a great role-model for people who keep in touch with the times at any age. :)
I wish my grandmother was like that! She just turned 92 and doesn't understand why anyone needs the internet "whats wrong with a phone call or nipping down to the shops"
She has Amazon wish lists set up for her presents - makes life so much easier.
She even has a lovefilm subscription. :D
And to think she was born before radio even became mainstream! Radio!!!
Miaow!
Like Jeremy said: "It's like NASCAR but they turn left AND right!"
Couldn't have put it better myself :D

Oh No we brits lead the field, it's just she always was a cus'ed individual; and her grand-daughter (my wife) takes after her. :-(
i was quite impressed that mine could text, computers? now thats just too far ;)
my parents used to do that ;) i think now since i've been here, they just call my sister. she can just go over and do it. my parents are switched on too, it's just that i always used to do it for them, so it's just easier to ask me.
my gran is not 105 and not using a webcam - best techy gran i'm aware of. outstanding that people can still keep in touch.
text? you mean SMS? my gran got rid of the cellular phone because she was sick of people calling her when she was out.
hehehe
i'm dreading moving away from home, im going to get a phone call every day after how to do things on the computer or how to work the dvd player...
I get that and im still at home :D
this is what I get. My mum quite regularly forgets how to use her iPod.
i'll just have to change my number ;)

I was cruel I used to say "You bought it; You work it"
oooh i like that ;)
Another was "When all else fails; try reading the instuctions"
I wish my grandmother was like that! She just turned 92 and doesn’t understand why anyone needs the internet “whats wrong with a phone call or nipping down to the shops” {Comment #241}
My grandma is perfectly content without a computer, which is just as well as I don't think she could use one if she did. It is somewhat ironic because her husband and her son were/are both heavily interested in computers as early as the 1980s (hence why I first used a computer at age 2).
my dad would never do that :D
By the time I go home in October I won't have seen my parents for 16 months. I dread the list of things they're going to have for me to do, tech wise.
aren't you nice? ;) I think in a way, the calls for dvd players and microwave clocks are just a good excuse to ring up and talk to someone you miss :)
i’m dreading moving away from home, im going to get a phone call every day after how to do things on the computer or how to work the dvd player…Comment #260}
I still regularly get phone calls from my brother asking me how to renew library books online. Ironically he used to play a lot of online games. Why he doesn't look up how to do it himself is a question I cannot answer {<a .
yeah i had last time i was there. I encouraged to physically make me a list so I could just do it all on the one day. i billed them of course ;)
Why do you need an excuse?
tis true, i'll enjoy talking to them weekly, but getting phone calls on an hourly basis will get annoying ;)
I'm sometimes rather busy...although seem to be in here a bit too....hmmm. really should close this tab off. i guess it's not a big F1 day when we're talking about techy grandparents.
Ture
Bye
Still can't type

Today's task (note I still live with my parents): how to get the mobiles onto the Mobile Telephone Opt-Out service...
Le mans is going all f1 as peugeot protest against the bodywork of the audi car
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75984
See, it's not just f1 that can be annoying! :P
not as annoying as those ascii characters ;)
huh?
yeah i was leaving....ciao :) i'll stop by later in case something happens..
I know Planet F1 is not held in any regards on this site but i actually think this a good article and i agree with many points contained within
http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3265_5368382,00.html
That was predictable, Audi start building a new car and then the ACO change the rules, it's bound to bring up somebits, plus Audi are going to own Peugeot's unreliabilty this year, so i can understand them wanting to slow the Audi's down ;)
in your comment with the autosport link (13:06:10 timestamp) there's one of those funny characters that turns up sometimes.
oh right, it doesn't appear on the DD... someone will have to alert mr c is he's around
"Should our protest not be upheld by the sporting stewards, we will lodge an appeal with motorsport's supreme governing body, the FIA."
Uh-oh. UH-OH...
That would be completely pointless!? Why would they do that.
Thats like the FIA turning down F1 appeals so they go and appeal to the FA instead. The ACO are a completely different governing body
Officially protesting it now.
Before they just thought it was illegal under the current rules.
So the FIA have no jurisdiction over Le Mans whatsoever? That said, I don't think Max will turn down Audi - he can then do damage to the one formulae that Ferrari can jump ship to.
we don't really need to know now that we have the new live commenting. they used to break the old one, but apart from looking a bit daft they're now harmless.
ah, that's alright than. silly daft things.
I don't think they do no, they can only do something if the ACO are part of the FIA (like the MSA are)
And it turns out that the link I've given you is no help. To opt out of the mobile phone directory, you need to text the letter "E" to them. (Why not "STOP" like everyone else?")
If you're not in the UK, ignore this; only UK-based mobiles can be put in the directory.
I'm really against that company, i opted out yesterday
Smug director on the news of theirs last night insisting it's no invasion of privacy to trade your number around without your knowledge...GRRR
How their phone line does not work
text E to a number (think it was 118800)
Does this mean then i've sent a text and they're not actually live yet with the system!
Double Grrr!!
isn't it worth waiting to see if anyone actually uses this? i could understand people's annoyance if you were being called 15 times a day, but what's the objection right now?
they presumably only have your data if you've let another company sell it on to them. which begs an obvious question...
I don’t think they do no, they can only do something if the ACO are part of the FIA (like the MSA are) {Comment #294}
The ACO organises Le Mans under FIA rules. So the FIA is the next level of jurisdiction after ACO in this case.
No the point is they think MY MOBILE NUMBER is an asset that they can make money from WITHOUT asking me first
I have enough stalker ex girlfriends to avoid! Privacy is a right not a gift. if people want to use these services then that's totally fine, say at the point purchase for your latest phone if you want to opt in, they shouldn't include everyone by default and then you opt out.
Seriously though i value my phones privacy, i've had some bad experiences in the past with harrassing calls.
they don't think that it is. they know that it is.
and so far as i can tell... they don't need to ask you if you have previously granted another company the rights to sell them your details in the past.
if you haven't, then there's no reason to opt out. and if you have, you can't really complain now, can you?
Assuming every one read the microscopic print hidden halfway down page 37 of some incomprehensible document and un/ticks the box
I am not here.
They already appealed and lost. They don't want to mess with the ACO. Those guys make the FIA look corporate. Peugeot may never get another entry.
question... do they even have your phone number in their database?
Who knows?
And they're not saying
isn’t it worth waiting to see if anyone actually uses this? i could understand people’s annoyance if you were being called 15 times a day, but what’s the objection right now?
they presumably only have your data if you’ve let another company sell it on to them. which begs an obvious question… {Comment #299}
Firstly, it can take them up to four weeks to remove you from their list, so it may be too late even now.
Secondly, some people cannot afford the risk of being rung at any random time. For example, my mum is frequently on a horse as part of her job. If the phone rings unexpectedly, it could startle the horse. She has to have one in case of an emergency, but a phone call as proposed by this directory company (as opposed to the texts people who know her send during the day) could be dangerous even if it only happens once.
Thirdly, not every company is scrupulous about following the regulations. It would be easy for a company to illegally sell/pass over details to the directory company and then all sorts of calls could happen that weren't expected from the contract signed. Let's face it, all EU marketing stuff to mobiles should legally be opt-in and not everyone is complying with it yet! (Reputable companies are, but not every company is reputable).
This is a classic case of what is wrong with modern society, anything for a percentage and to hell with anyone else.
Opt in should be voluntary not Opt out
I never tick the box asking for my number to be passed on but there's so many ways companies can get around it. The man in the street isn't important anymore.
so what is there to be annoyed about?
that's a good thing isn't it? privacy wise.
umm. does the phone not have a vibrate function?
Yes i looked yesterday, have no idea how they got it, I opt out of everything!
But Le Mans is run under ACO technological rules, because FIA bought out new ones that were completely different to ACO ones to do with GT2/3 and basically said "the aco can choose to run ours but we're not going run to theres" and so people choose ACO because LMS is better than FIA GT
okay, so, daily mail reader?
that would render a potentially useful service, useless.
But surely the point is you have the discretion of who has your phone number not someone else.
fair enough.
they don’t think that it is. they know that it is. {Comment #303}
I think what Maweech meant is that the company legally has to ask first before making money from it. This doesn't seem a direct enough method of asking and I can see massive loopholes enabling the number to be used without asking at all. You can't actively register someone else's phone unless you happen to be able to borrow their SIM card, but passive registration looks like it is happening wholesale.
Get lost!! As if!!
In the past I have worked for marketing companies, and I know what these sorts of databases are (1) Used for and (2) the price they bring.
This is big business and they will use/abuse Your dat at a whim and with no second thought. You may not worry about who has your data and to what use they put it but I do
:)
FT all the way!! Well and a smudging of NOTW for trash at the weekend lol
As I said i have no problem with the company selling it's services at all, I just desire the number directory to be voluntary, you say when you buy your phone if you want in or not. That way everyone is happy, a good idea in principle (the directory) but open to inevitable abuse.
question… do they even have your phone number in their database? {Comment #306}
The first we can know is the first time we get called. In Mum's case that could very well be too late.
Her phone has a vibrator function, but some horses are sensitive to that too. Switching it off isn't an option because sometimes people from home need to text her (Mum has yet to encounter a horse that has a problem with the text vibration indicator).
i don't see how any of this is worse than kathi randomly phoing people on a sunday night.
and the skype directory lists you name, location and your number.
that’s a good thing isn’t it? privacy wise. {Comment #310}
Not if you can't find out your own details - that's illegal under the Data Protection Act!
alia. i'm missing a trick here. but what did you mum do before mobile phones were invented?
just turn the damn ringer off.
If you need an example.
I now get marketing calls from all sorts of companies, even though my number is ex-directory.
Why because "3" insist that you give them a landline, before they'll give you a mobile, then they flog it on to anyone who'll pay, even though I told them it's Ex-Dir.
so if that bugs you... maybe a different mobile company?
But Le Mans is run under ACO technological rules, because FIA bought out new ones that were completely different to ACO ones to do with GT2/3 and basically said “the aco can choose to run ours but we’re not going run to theres” and so people choose ACO because LMS is better than FIA GT {Comment #313}
It's still under FIA regulations for things like the circuit and basic safety. It's just that the ACO ones are superimposed over the FIA ones where a conflict exists. If it didn't have FIA regulations at some level it wouldn't be licensed by the FIA and very few of the drivers on the entry list would be able to compete under the terms of their licenses.
Look try to get your head around the fact that MY NUMBER is MY DATA and NOT THEIRS
And they of course will be better
As If
that would render a potentially useful service, useless. {Comment #314}
It would also render an illegal service under EU regulations legal. Besides, the company's claiming that they've had a few million voluntary opt-ins as well as all this data hoovering (they want to say that because, among other things, the voluntary ones earn them money directly).
Besides, people can opt out of paper directories (my family is among them). Why not online ones as well?
it's not your number, it's the phone companies, isn't it?
NO
That's why you can "Port" YOUR NUMBER
you have skype right? why are you not concerned that you cannot opt out of that directory?
But surely the point is you have the discretion of who has your phone number not someone else. {Comment #315}
By the look of the way this company operates, that's not strictly true any more. Mum's never given her number to any company voluntarily, yet the way the corporate world works, it's likely that it's out there and could fall into this company's hands anyway.
fair enough. clearly this bothers you a lot.
That is correct (g/f works for vodafone) but you rent that number from them for the duration of your contract and you are covered under existing privacy and invasion laws that your number will not be passed out without your knowledge
It does; I've seen what they can and do do
maybe you'd be better of without a mobile?
For those in the UK (I guess) on the BBC homepage (the orange tab) there is a video of Jenson Button racing a scalextric version of the Brawn car :D
Link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8092000/8092649.stm
I don't know what this new company is that is getting everyone so worked up, but if someone rings me to sell me something, if I don't want it, I just say no. Works for me.
i don’t see how any of this is worse than kathi randomly phoing people on a sunday night. {Comment #324}
At least (presumably) the people who are phoned by Kathi have a vague idea who Kathi is. She'd probably also avoid phoning a particular person if they objected without needing the heft of regulation to deter her.
I'm not on Skype because it doesn't work on my computer, but I would insist on it showing less information than that if I ever joined. For that matter, I'm the sort of person who is bugged by the fact that Fantasy Racers wanted to show most of my real name when I first used it.
The comapnies trade the number, hence it takes 3 weeks, you don't ever actually 100% own your number
Strange but true!
That. is. AWESOME!
I would and try to do so when I can but unfortunately I need it for my job; so Hobson's choice.
This said why should that mean my details should be available to all and sundry
ummm. you don't know kathi!
you can choose not to enter information, but as far as i can see your skype handle is public all the time.
the arguement is whether that company has the right to ring you without yr prior approval or knowledge.
that's kinda how i understood it. cheers.
makes sense to me. you don't own your landline number either.
that seems a little extreme, 99% of the time when my phone rings I don't know its going to
that'll be kathi ;)
alia. i’m missing a trick here. but what did you mum do before mobile phones were invented? {Comment #326}
Before mobiles were invented, she had to have someone else on standby in case she or a horse got injured or something. That person would then need to go to the nearest house to summon help. That's health and safety for you.
Now she can work horses on the road by herself without needing to have someone else there on another horse.
Basically, a mobile phone means it costs half as much money for people to have their horses worked. I see no good reason why some phone directory company should be permitted to turn the clock back seven years!
has she considered a walkie-talkie?
Peugeot can't take losing and just complain to the ACO (also French).
I REALLLY hope Audi win now!
they mentioned they were going to protest the splitter after the last race we watched (petite le mans). this isn't a surprise to anyone is it?
it’s not your number, it’s the phone companies, isn’t it? {Comment #333}
The phone company charges us to rent that number. It's not the same as buying that number, but certain rights do attach to that rental.
If you rented a house from a landlord, would you be happy with that landlord selling your name and address to anyone who asked without asking you directly beforehand?
Except both are French, so the ACO may pander to them as they are a big drawcard at Le Mans...
That's Fighting Talk! :D
you watched petit le mans? wow im impressed!
Politics eh?!! we all love it lol
What you think i sent you the other day Mr C? was writing an e-mail to a friend and it kinda turned into an article/post etc
A BBC First - the video wasn't geo-locked!
you have skype right? why are you not concerned that you cannot opt out of that directory? {Comment #335}
Had. Sort of. Because my phone couldn't talk to the internet, I never managed to get it past the username/password stage. So no number is associated with my username in Skype.
Also, back then I didn't know Skype had a directory, let alone that it was impossible to opt out of it (note that this means Skype technically shouldn't be operating in the EU - while non-opt-out may be legal in the USA, it's not legal this side of the Atlantic).
I just say I can't speak Danish. They apologise and hang up in English. Genius!
thats awesome
It's been coming since Sebring at least... It's just the statement in the article bugged me. As you know, I favour two certain drivers that don't drive for Pug so it just makes me go "Ooooh the Cheeky Monkeys!"
Call center?
I do have a complaint though, that front wing isn't nearly low enough and the rear wing not nearly big enough :D
Nah it's usually Newspapers or INsurance salesmen.
sorry sebring, yes. forgot we watched that too.
sounds like every company is operating illegally these days ;)
erm?
:D
this is my complaint
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/bbc-jpg-2
what?!
I have read it, I think I replied, didn't I?
With all the politic going on, how come we are left behind. At the end, if all the spectators or F1 TV watching boycot the shows where will be F1 going. I have enough of Max, we are on the 21st century and a Manager can not have this dictatorial attitude. He should already have stepped down few months ago, try desesperatly to bounce back and look useless. retire Max for all of us.
they don't know jenson, do they?
Welcome to Sidepodcast ;)
Clearly that is why he lost :P
Seeing as none of you are really that interested it doesn't matter that you got the wrong race.
Apparently the ACO passed the Audi R15 in scrutineering and Audi reckon al is OK because of a loophole in a rule in 2006 which the Porsche RS Spyder exploited.
At the end of the day the Audi is better on strategy anyway so it won't matter...
WHA?
Come on BBC, stop trying to be like ITV!
They will win unless they break down, or pug get uber reliable, but Audi are better in the pits, have a more reliable car and are just better, plus they have mcnish, and in my book that makes everything better ;)
:D :P
AND TOM!!! GRRRR!!!
who?
:D baaad move
hehehe. sorry, i'm in a trouble making mood today.
Tom Kristensen - The Danish guy? Come on, you must be pulling my leg now?
awww. course.
No :-( sob sob sob
I never get any sidepodcast mail :-(
Mwhahahah
Have checked. I did reply on 8th June at 10:27pm.
did i miss something here:
"Technical director Giorgio Ascanelli, who has been the target of approaches from rival teams including Ferrari in recent weeks"
he has?
You're off my naughty step ;)
i am legally obliged to follow franck. it was came with the line "for better or worse."
I heard this... two weeks ago, was it?
:D
For Better or worse, for richer or poorer, for F1 and for Franckage?
why the sudden interest in him?
Quite right too :)
Why did I not get my wife to do that with Lewis?
not sure, to be honest. i guess it was because he got STR to win before RBR did. but i'm surprised that they didn't go after him as early as the end of last season.
he's Italian and therefore legally obliged to work for Ferrari and not the evil austrians?
just wondered if something has happened to str behind the scenes, like diddy is planning to ditch them or something.
:D
For better for worse, for richer for poorer, for when Franck wins, for when Christine gets angry because he's beached it in the gravel
What??? It's stoopid Klien that does that and ruins it for everyone.
That's cause he's the non-French guy and so they sabotage his car!
Nonsense. He's just useless.
Still not here
The last race was Sebring which was the debut of the R15. They ran the R10 at Petit Le Mans
well, now would be the best time to do it - there's lots of potential entrants who need a factory (and an entry if they're not chosen as one of the new entrants)
I'm clearly blind!
Klien is a lovely guy though!
I won't hear of it.
no, no. you should encourage amy. look where the other driver's she supports end up.
I have never been up close to Franck. I am sure if I got the chance, he'd be far lovelier than Klien was ;)
There's a earlier than usual, midweek motorsport being recorded right now on RadioLeMans.com
You know TK. McNish's number 2
true story. imagine if christine supported heikki or kimi, amy would be livid ;)
:P
Very good.
Haven't heard that but I am not surprised. I can't understand why a guy of his calibre is wasting his time with a team like that
once upon a time I supported a double world champion. Ahh, the 90s.
Thanks, Jon. :)
I hope the Petrol cars will be closer this year, they got well and truly owned last year
is it too early to do le mans predictions? if not here's mine:
1) franck
:D
All this discussion over the Audi part in question reminds me of the discussion we had over the DDD. Very disappointing.
exactly
Ross Brawn saying that F1 crisis is unnerving sponsors....
WHAT SPONSORS?!?!?
true. but as we discovered with the ddd, there doesn't seem to be a better way of complaining, does there?
sir rich?
I think he meant potential sponsors - i.e. the companies they're talking to right now.
It's not like Brawn have no sponsorsjust because they don't have a main sponsor yet
true, true. sometimes i think motorsport as a whole is determined to end its own life.
They don't have that many
At least it proves F1 is not alone with the politics, despite what everyone says.
he seems to be having a wail of a time
true. even WRC and MotoGP also have to deal with political issues.
It's probably because LMS racing is *ahem* good
;)
Like journeyer says, Brawn's has been and is still talking to a lot of sponsors
All motor racing is the same.
i can't see how it could be anything else. people will always push rules and the only time competitors can complain is when they arrive at the track?
I don’t know what this new company is that is getting everyone so worked up, but if someone rings me to sell me something, if I don’t want it, I just say no. Works for me. {Comment #343}
You are lucky. For years our household had a lot of trouble with a variety of companies (usually double-glazing companies and taxi firms; the latter was odd because up to that point nobody in our house had ever used one). Repeated instructions not to phone us again didn't work and the only thing that did was going into the telephone opt-out service and reminding a few of the more persistent people that there is a £5000 maximum fine for phoning up someone on the opt-out service.
Mobile phones need a formal equivalent.
ummm. you don’t know kathi! {Comment #348}
Ah, but has anyone actually objected to Kathi's calls strongly enough to tell her not to do it again?
that seems a little extreme, 99% of the time when my phone rings I don’t know its going to {Comment #351}
Maybe, but you have a fairly good idea that it will be worth your time to take that call because only a limited number of people know your number. Spam calls from people you've not heard of rarely fall into that category.
has she considered a walkie-talkie? {Comment #354}
Not enough range (we investigated that option some years back), especially given that she often has to ride through woods. Besides, until this directory company came around, the mobile phone option was a perfectly workable solution.
Is it quiet because everyone is listening to MWM?
I love it :D
sounds like every company is operating illegally these days {Comment #371}
That's because it's expensive to enforce the law :(
I am epic PS3ing
Is it quiet because everyone is listening to MWM? {Comment #448}
In my case, I've had lunch, helped Dad get the internet connection working and then admired his new car (the old one's differential broke yesterday).
I have implemented the konami code into my blog. Awesome.
albeit it causes the most camp thing ever but it's pretty funny :D
this is my complaint {Comment #374}
Ironically one of the other tabs is about the millionth English word. Looks like the BBC are trying for the million-and-first one!
Marco Apicella! Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while... He did one F1 race at Jordan - Rubens Barrichello whooped him for the half-lap he was on track...
i am selling the idea of the new iphone 3gs to everybody i know.
What??? It’s stoopid Klien that does that and ruins it for everyone. {Comment #407}
I think Jon meant "however Franck performs", meaning "me" can't get out of supporting Franck if he doesn't perform to "me's" expectations...
Marco Apicella! Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a while… {Comment #455}
Me neither...
So that you can steal one?
Ross Brawn saying that F1 crisis is unnerving sponsors….
WHAT SPONSORS?!?!? {Comment #430}
That's because they're unnerved by the global credit crunch already...
I remember him well. At one time I thought he was going to be a serious F1 driver.
They just mentioned Dave Sims who is running one of the Ferrari teams. He was the last man to speak to Jim Clark as he was his mechanic at Hockenheim.
i think so that we can play monopoly against each other... or something.
i don't even like monopoly.
Any optimism I had left from the BBC 5Live tweet is gone now:
http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/whos-on-top-in-f1-struggle-today/
PS3 remote start will be the death of me *shakes fist at it*
*shakes fist at Steven Roy*
What did I do?
Porsche have protested Ferrari?
last night's italian headline i saw was "new world championship".
The mcnish comment.
8 vs. 2. That is all.
How come?
Ecclescakes is now saying that he'll fight any kind of breakaway series and, in true F1 spirit, take them to court with legal action if necessary
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75987
He also seems to be taking fashion advice from the BBC F1 team
but surely he wouldn't...oh. he did.
Now this is interesting. He's really sided with Max on this one.
But I think Bernie's missing the point. It's not about the championship they're in - it's about the teams which are there contesting it - and the drivers know it.
Also, circuits wouldn't be a problem for FOTA if they teamed up with Dorma. Those + Montreal and Monaco would already make for a great calendar.
The only issue would be with the TV contracts...
Those meaning the circuits Dorma already work with for MotoGP. Most of them (except Barcelona) are exclusive to MotoGP and don't host F1 races.
That last paragraph about the 1998 Concorde agreement is interesting...
but they could, right?
Yeah I've just noticed it now you mention it. Why would they say no?
The reason they said no was that they wanted more money that Bernie didn't want to provide. Now Max is punishing them for it by trying to squeeze them out.
ah, of course...money. surprising that didn't come straight to my mind really
So greed led to abuse of power? Interesting...
in business, saying no is not necessarily thinking they disagree with something, but they could get an even better deal. the problem comes when they never get another chance to say yes.
Most could. Not sure about Laguna Seca (the corkscrew is too tricky for low-riding F1 cars) or Brno (not sure if they're certified for F1 races). Oh, they won't be able to race in Sepang either.
But instead they'll get Indy, Le Mans, Assen, Phillip Island, Mugello, and others. So it's still a pretty strong calendar by any standards. Add Monaco to that and it's as good as anything F1 can give.
Toyota ran an f1 car at Laguna a few years ago...
which makes us come to the conclusion that the two of them have way too much power - and the teams were blind to it. now that they've realized it, it's too late, and they now have to wait for mother nature to take its course...
but i don't think they ran at full-throttle due to that elevation change thingy.
Laguna - sounds correct. Brno - but it wouldn't be "F1" though? maybe different regulations?
That is the reverse of your opinion on Chris Amon. Results are not necessarily a reflecection of ability
good point there. but those certifications are based on track safety, amongst other things, so i'm not sure they'd run there anyway.
The rear wheels are partially exposed and have to be covered by the bodywork.
we've had a lot of those issues in F1. but that's real life - you make decisions you later regret. I remember hearing Billy Corgan from the smashing pumpkins tell a story how a guy came up to him in a music shop once, and introduced himself as being at a particular record company. he told BC that he knocked back signing that band - and every time he saw the pumpkins he had to remember that he thought they'd go nowhere. ouch....
thing is, of course, they're not the only ones regretting it... so are we.
They'd be nuts to go different to F1 on safety. the drivers would strike and then look what would happen ;(
He always wears white shirts. That is probably a photo issue rather than a pink shirt.
I think all he is doing is reacting to the Carmen Ezpeleta/Dorna stories. If there is a breakaway he wants to make sure it is with FOM.
it gives us something to talk about, but yeah. i hope they all make friends soon, and we never see Bernie on tv again, especially if he's in a pink shirt.
very good point there.
Silverstone, Magny Cours, Imola, A1 Ring etc etc etc
but his hair is still white.
A1 Ring doesn't exist anymore, right? Silverstone is on the MotoGP calendar from next year, so that's very possible. Magny and Imola are also hanging around...
Laguna Seca could never be made safe for an F1 type series
There is the famous stor of a Decca exec who turned down the chance to sign the Beatles because he thought guitar bands were history.
That last paragraph about the 1998 Concorde agreement is interesting… {Comment #476}
When did the teams have the chance to sign the agreement? Was this before or after it became apparent that the FIA refused to be bound by it?
I am no photography expert but I am sure someone could explain why
Beatles? they're one of those bands on guitar hero?
A1 Ring is still there. Mateschitz was looking at bringing it back to F1 last year.
i just think it's a pink shirt - it has a logo or something on it so I think it's not his normal clothes. maybe he slept in his car...
But didn't they demolish parts of it already? If I remember correctly, he was looking at restoring it, but then it ran into some problems...
One day they could make some record company some money
Yeah I’ve just noticed it now you mention it. Why would they say no? {Comment #479}
Because no sport other than F1 gives its commercial organisers 50% of the takings. Neither does any other sport have such high expenses for the competitors.
Besides, Bernie and Max were offered a counter-Concorde at least three times, the first in mid-2001. Why didn't they sign that?
the other Apple ;)
A1-Ring: http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns20021.html
Because they could. They had to power to afford not signing it...
i have solved my remote start issues. life is good again.
I didn't know that they had already started work on it. They are off the list then.
I have heard iPhones 3G's have had their prices lowed
Here is the link from bbc news:
http://search.bbc.co.uk/click/p/3/ds/latest/t/Apple%20cuts%20price%20of%20basic%20%2a%5b%7biPhone%7d%5d%2a/id/17231391270101244646804903544870000/sp/26f618abcd648624ea3fd6a1e5c872d7/-/http%3a%2f%2fnews%2ebbc%2eco%2euk%2f1%2fhi%2ftechnology%2f8086584%2estm
J's link (a few minutes ago) says they did demolish things but then the work got blocked. oops.
here is a better link:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8086584.stm
Shame. It always produced good races.
NO WAY! Thats awesome
Because they could. They had to power to afford not signing it… {Comment #512}
Didn't they realise that by continually refusing to sign they were endangering their future with the F1 teams (maybe not the 2001 time because they hadn't done the 2005 agreements by then, but they were offered twice in 2007?)
As it stands, the teams could quite easily cite repudiation of contract by the FIA as their reason for not complying with it, leaving those two organisations with the bill for breaking F1. The FIA's counter-response still hasn't gone through the Formula 1 Commission or the SWG/TWG and therefore is against its own regulations.
So why didn't they do it last time in Paris? Could we be missing something here?
Anyway, early to bed for me. The quiz beckons.
Later, everyone. ;)
Can you not be host again? I liked finishing 4th. Night
And its a hello from me
Parting shot:
Fiat finalizes purchase of Chrysler assets
bye!
see ya journeyer.
Will take part in the quiz tonight if I get home early enough from meeting...
I would, but Pitmonster is the host tonight. ;)
I am thinking of buying one
Night Journeyer
i have so stopped paying attention to all of this. too many deals going on.
hold on a sec. that's not for the uk is it?
i think Journeyer and RG might be the same person. never here at the same time.
:)
YES
its news from Monday so I'd say no
no.
I know, but it might be harder.
It showed the price in pounds.
No. It is just the WWDC announcement.
agreed. didn't alex have a link saying that O2 wouldn't pass the costs on UK buyers?
Just a conversion though, I haven't seen Apple confirm any prices here
I think we (or as youre saying it, I) were on the same panel at some stage.
You think there is another Amy Borg out there
If anyone seriously wants one you should check the O2 site.
2 very different accents though ;)
I can do a good Irish accent, but yeah, ever so slightly different to Journeyer
"...the carrier has not dropped its prices on the iPhone 3G - even though Apple last night dropped its prices in the US."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/jun/09/iphone-o2-pricing
please, please, please check these things before posting chris.
So?? Possibly even with me last year... Different accent just adds to the intrigue.
hey! :P
yeah but no RG right now?
hello.
This is complicated
hi! :D
you mean opening up the other window with the other Name already filled in?
not buying it. I know the truth. weren't you "leaving" now?
i was, but my girl called. i'm staying up to talk to her. :)
:D
lies, i tell ya, all lies! :P
Exactly.
rubbish.
wait, you're Journeyer AND RG? :P
now i'm confused. :D
He does a good northerner voice then.
not as confused as me, who seems to be talking to myself.
You two shouldn't be talking to yourself. This is as confusing as time travel
who is yourself?
Johnny Kane. Another one that should have been given a break in F1.
*reads back on comments slowwwwly*
Time travel isn't confusing. Back to the Future explained everything.
When I'm talking to myself, im talking to scott and journeyer but when im talking to steven he's me who's not the me or the journeyer but the singer from journey who ive never heard of before.
Bah, all time travel consists of is wibbly wobbly timey wimey....stuff.
This is worse!
"If Marge marries Artie, I'll never be born!"
Hehe.
Steve Perry?
...wha? :P
journey? now there's a band i have never seen mentioned in here before...
:D Bart? Yeees.
Right, must really get to the bed now. G'night. ;)
makes no more sense ;)
mm, him.
I don't know either.
They have a Filipino vocalist - he's amazing! :D
i come back, and "me" has a - and Scott has brackets. Whats the world coming too
A couple of hours ago I tweeted MWM to ask when they were talking to Franck. They have not replied. Do you think they are scared to tell me they're not?
I dont know myself. Apparantly I'm Scott
I can imagine so...
last time i asked them that, they said they'd be covering f1 next week!
aaah, so confused.
night ;)
and Journeyer.
Night myself
Yeah ... but.... but... Amon won Le Mans too!
Scott in Italy started it off cos J was leaving just as I came on, he accused me and him of being the same person. Caused confusion. Then he admitted to actualy being me and Journeyer and then I have no bloomin idea.
I hate what they did to the Oesterreichring :(
I'm pretty sure it was Steven Roy.
who is Journey?this song
That has the best Air Guitar potential EVAR!
It's not the time travel it is the grammar related to it. You should read the hitchhkier's guide to the galaxy on this subject. If you travel back in time and do something how do you phrase it before you go. You haven't done it yet so its not past tense but you are doing it in your future but its not really future tense etc
not sure.because there is this one
this is the second best Journey song EVAR
They have 6 hours of practice. They need to speak to him some time.
Agreed. It was awesome
Hmm... too close to call!
Wasn't me
All night....hold tight....man, this is going to get ugly...
about to listen to Ooh Sherry...
how is this relevant?
oh man I LOVE that song. I am never going to get to sleep :(
:D
Does anyone have a stream for Le Mans practise?
anyone know how long vodafone have been sponsoring AUTOSPORT live?
http://live.autosport.com/
and will the commentary be available on mobiles?
you're not the only one! and when you start having to explain to someone why that's song in your head...well how do you explain - i created multiple identifies for myself that encompassed my claim of two others being the same, then "me" because Steve Perry and then ....
Audi-Peugeuot update.
The FIA set rules for Safety, Track, Marshalls, Car Safety (crash structures and the like)
BUT they have no control of technical regs, so Audi comply with all the FIA regs (crash regs) so if ACO find them legal, theres nothing Pug can do!
also, they have a le mans thread:
http://live.autosport.com/commentary.php/id/110
Don't stop believing - new theme for Kovi ;)
heading to the magical world of no internet. see you all sometime for talk about internet savvy grandmothers (this morning) and strange things (rest of the time). bye bye...
See ya mate, or me, whoever you are.
If Amy is around the channel is showing the McLaren cricket event
http://www.justin.tv/maltesefalconx
We have live timing
http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/pages/chronos_gb.html
can you see amy?
hmmmm
no. i meant... and steven see you in the background.
CAN steven see you in the background
shoot i make my life difficult.
and i meant hmmm because all the clips on this channel are off my youtube!
what? omg.
I have no special powers. I know she was at that event so I thought I would mention it in case she was around.
so weeeeeeird. I am rewatching them all, I haven't seen most of these since March ;)
You could do Bernie and shut them down. If you do could you ask them if they know of a Le Mans stream
theres one here
Thanks Amy
Ditto :)
The on boarf is McNish
Sweet, now I will turn my screen facing away from the door in my office and put in the background.
Hello all
Live timing too Dan
http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/pages/chronos_gb.html
I managed to confuse myself. I couldn't understand how I could hear a driver interview during and ad break. Then I realised I had Radio LeMans on.
the audio on that stream is terrible quality so thats probably not a bad idea
Turn the audio on the jtv box down a bit, then turn your pooter sound up, it should be better
Why did someone give the guy with the hair from Grey's Anatomy a car to race?
He's mean to have lots of experience, really good apparently.
Oooohh.. that Scaletrix thing with jenson is part of a deal with Brawn!
I want a Brawn GP Scaletrix!
Random. He's another Eric Bana.
The live timing is worse than Bernie's
should bbc be giving them free advertising like that?
That is a regular complaint. When is somethig a news story and when does it become an advert.
when the team link to the bbc from their press release?
Thanks for that and getting Journey stuck in my head. That said, why did you have to use a clip from that awful TV show..
That wasn't me. I didn't even watch the clip
Theres a new addition to the #fakef1 lot.
@fakeMartinB
We have a fake Martin Brundle
Good evening.
Imagine being in one of those houses next to the track, that would be awesome.
I think I'm going to play "spot the Alonso" this weekend.
Evening sire
Are you expecting him to be at Le Mans?
yep
Why?
he did an interview with Australian TV before the race last weekend to say he would be there. He's friends with Antonio Garcia.
Will he be wearinga a pair oval, black rim glasses? Maybe a white and red striped shirt, and a red and white hat and children will scower for hours looking for him.
Do you know what Garcia is driving?
Corvette, car 63
One of the GT cars
Live timing just ame to life. Must be finished its extended coffee break
I will keep an eye out if we see any of their pit stops
Never changes does it, same every year :-)
This will make Christine happy:
4 8 Peugeot Total LMP1 MONTAGNY Franck 3'39.286 3.032
5 7 Peugeot Total LMP1 KLIEN Christian 3'42.114 5.860
:D
3:43 is a good time considering it's wet and they've made them alot slower. last year the peugeuots were doing 3:18's in practice
Which car is Christijan with a j driving?
The full entry list is at
http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/pages/engages_gb.html
#15 Kolles Audi
Cool, and cheers Steven for the entry list
So the car is 9th.
With Christian Bakkerud and someone called Mondini
haha whoever's doing #draysonracing isn't doing great. they've said that everydriver has to do 10 laps, which isnt true. its just the new drivers that do!!
The only compulsory running for everyone is the 3 night laps
exactamundo
Now there is a guy who is worth a mention when we are talking about young drivers who are worth a shot at F1 Alexandre Prémat. Has anyone ever been so unlucky with team mates. Nico Rosberg's team mate when he won GP2 and was supposed to lead the team and win the championship the following season when his number 2 was some kid called Hamilton.
But he wasn't even close to either, he's good, but not that good
my local broadcaster is showing the 2008 highlights tomorrow. I shall watch them in preparation for the race because I am a Le Mans newbie.
You could read th comments from last year's live thread as you watch
Christijan's car parked on the track
...
I always support the wrong people
good idea. The broadcast of the race itself has been changed, it is now on from 10.30pm-3am, then 3.30am-4.30am, then 6.30am-7.30am, then we have a 9 hour break until 7pm when it is on until 8.30pm, and then from 9pm until 11pm when it finishes.
Stupid little breaks in the coverage. It was meant to be non stop from 10.30pm-7.30am but instead they are showing NASCAR and the GT3 European Championship.
I shall try and sleep during these periods I think, I am not hardcore enough to do the full 24 hours, and I don't have enough bandwidth to stream that which is not on TV.
He just made it out of the gravel. Had he not made it back the car was out of the race as the three drivers are rookies and they have to do 10 laps each in this session.
7.30am-7pm is not 9 hours. I need sleep.
Talk to you neighbours before the weekend
It is in sidepod time. It is also 4 hours and also 10 minutes. Time travel will be easy once the world switches to sidepodtime
Good idea but I haven't seen most of my neighbours in the 12 months i have lived here so I doubt it would work. I have just done some investigation into the GT3 championship and I really really don't understand why out of allllll the categories of motorsport, that is the one they show on TV here. The rights must have been very, very cheap. Not worth interrupting Le Mans for.
I can't imagine interupting Le Mans for any race unle F1 happened to be on the same day. You would need to be some kind of moron to schedule a GT3 race in a Le Mand program
The BTCC is also on this weekend
Especially because its a race from a month ago.
There will be other racing on and people would go to it but if you were running a TV channel that was showing Le Mans would you cut away to show a recording of any other race?
I have just noticed they are showing DTM here now as well. They are obviously moving in the right direction with their motorsports coverage, I just wish they had GP2. I'll have to watch it and cheer on di Resta ;)
Ah, fair point. The answer to that is a simple no.
A very sensible choice
I'll give up on it if I see Ralf too much though.
I'm with Steven here
I say this every year, but if I had a choice to start a team I would go racing in sports cars. Lot of interesting races, cheaper than NASCAR and open wheel, and frankly seems more fun.
He's a great guy. I met him.
Well, I say "I met him", what I mean is I went to the test day at Silverstone in 2005 and bumped in to him, but I had food poisoning and felt horrendous so I just stood there looking gormless while the guy I went with talked to him..
There is a lot of logic to that. I can see your point.
That why whoever is going to the Lotus meet up needs to start negotiating with Clive Chapman to start an Evola GT2 program.
A Sidepod-Lotus racing car would be sweet!!!
aw last years 24 hour thread only got 864 comments. I feel we can beat that this time around ;)
Someone just dropped the car on a wet track. One of the LMP2s
Clive Chapman only runs Classic Team Lotus. The Lotus factory would need to start the sportscar program
So who owns Lotus now? I've lost track.
Proton I think.
Proton is the major share holder. They are a Malatsian car company
Last time I remembered, I think they were owned by General Motors or Bugatti group or something that nature. That a smart buy for Proton at least for the technology and R&D.
OMG OMG OMG!
I just got an email from puma - I won the goddamn competition! I WON IT! :D
Way to go Scott!
Well done! I can't remember what the prize was, but I remember it was good!
GM had some deal with Lotus but I can't remember the details. Vauxhall the British GM arm and Opel the European arm had their own versions of the Elise. Proton bought them 3 or 4 years ago.
Congrats!
Well done Scott
Just saw someone spin
Well done sir
This calls for a celebration! LINK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwEMxYggoKQ
great news Scott!!!
McNish getting out of the car after two hours. He has hogged all the good weather now someone else can drive it in the wet
*doffs cap*
Well done! What's the prize?!
Goes to British GP, has to write about it from a fans perspective?
I believe..
Ha, I'd just go and enjoy the weekend and go into hiding shortly afterwards conveniently 'forgetting' to write said article :-D
"PUMA is looking for fans to go behind the scenes at Formula One events. All we ask in return is you share your experience with other PUMA Motorsport fans by writing a report about your day. You will get a tour of a garage of a PUMA Formula One team, meet the drivers and technicians and get an exclusive perspective of the most glamorous sport in the world."
Think this was it
yeah exactly ;)
i think Mr and Mrs C might need to sign him up to SPC and give him a microphone for this one.
If it is that one... that kicks the donkey's behind!
nice one scott.
Hehehe. We can't afford the stuff we got, let alone leasing stuff out :)
What I will say is: 0121 28 TRACK.
lotus have just put out a press release containing the following statement:
"Group Lotus plc, are not connected or affiliated to, nor in any other way associated with the newly announced “Team Lotus” that has submitted an entry for the 2010 Formula 1 championship."
Group Lotus plc will take all necessary steps to protect its name, reputation and brand image."
http://www.f1minute.com/2009/06/10/team-lotus-and-2010-formula-1/
i think that's pretty much the opposite of the info flibster heard the other day and is the second brand name unhappy to have their name dragged through the mud to please max.
so the Puma teams are Ferrari, RBR, STR, Renault and BMW? I would want to do RBR because I think Web + Seb would be the friendliest drivers to meet :D
OH! That puts a slightly different spin on things. Flibster has some explaining to do.
this pleases me.
If there is a friend option and he gets to go round BMW, can I come for the ride :)
going to be very hard with that voicemail ;)
i meant: going to be very hard to compare with that voicemail. me not speak english good.
i still don't follow?
:) whatever voicemail he leaves you is going to be hard to compete with. maybe i should just go home. i became productive at work so stayed...
why? because you don't like seeing a great company begin to look stupid?
for no reason whatsoever, Bert and Ernie on a boat, but contains language not suitable for the kiddies.
pretty much. Lotus's history in F1 is pretty important, to bring back the name to a team of what is likely to be a whole lot of fail is a bad idea. I am not down with these name-revivals.
To me if David Hunt had bought the team and kept it going like Ron Dennis did with McLaren then fine. But now the only people who should be entitled to bring back the Lotus name is Lotus themselves or Clive Chapman
Ant Davidson on RLM
Yeyyyy, Ant's on RLM :)
Franck on screen
I'm not up to speed on the history of Lotus, but once you sell the name, you sell the reputation.
Just got back home. Am still in shock somewhat.
Thats a relief, i thought you had fainted with joy
tell us more! bravo!
David Hunt bought the company from from bankruptcy so has the Team Lotus name.
a little nugget from joe's latest post:
"Friday will give us an indication of where things are going. In the interim Renault F1 is reported to have informed its partners that it may not be in F1 next year."
it sucks. but we can all hope that friday doesn't bring a return of the team and then no problems?
well that's hardly a surprise (but still not great to read) - i think i saw something about that in the news. when you're playing hardball you have to really play hardball.
Clive has his latest epistle from his man Garcia
http://madtv.me.uk/f1insight/default.aspx?blogid=547
i know not of garcia. what have i missed?
that sounds more like throwing in the towel than playing hardball, doesn't it?
Getting an 'Internal Server Error 500' when going to the homepage?
Garcia is a character who supplies Clive with the occasional story but somehow never qute does anything the easy way. He reported on the Spanish GP then due to popular demand did Monaco and today Turkey. It is worth going back and reading the earlier post. You will either love it or hate it.
oops.
...
GRR! MEDIA TEMPLE GRR!
not to me. it's just talking the talk. by telling more people it sounds more serious that just a simple one off comment. making themselves look like they're seriously considering it. even if they're not. besides, we all knew this is a possibility and maybe it's even a legal thing by writing it down?
works for me
So yeah, I'm going to be a guest of one of the 5 teams Puma supply at Silverstone next weekend.
and it's back. have pinged them anyhow. see what they says.
Is now!
Peugeot in trouble. I think it is Brabham's
we're all envious. when do you find out more details, eg who? do you have an audio recorder?
all i'm saying is....if it's renault...try the steak, it's to die for.
Can you get there and back?? How will they identify you? What am I doing that weekend...
true enough. but you don't confuse the heck out of those paying the bills unless you need to, right?
all i'll say is...if its BMW...nick something...but not something which will affect the performance of the car...rulling out the rear wing
Oh dear... say it quietly, that's the Pug I'd rather have win... Brabs vs Nishy for the win, oh yes
no you could take something from bmw, it'll probably make it better
I guess what they say in public and what they say in public are two entirely different things
The car is getting better.
*sniggers*
I have to now e-mail them back confirming I can attend and give them my mobile number with a suitable time to call.
I am going to ask if I can bring a guest and if so my dad will come with so obviously he'd drive us up there. They might send something in the post, I'm not sure exactly, just guessing.
I agree with you, but some of these teams might go in 2 years anyway. if the sponsorship deal is tied to f1, then everyone might know the time in the sun is over. ??? both sides are posturing. the real truth is what is not written down. the truth is somewhere in between.
get your superlicense. you might get a drive for Renault. i'm just saying.
Ah, so if I turn up in your name I won't get away with it..
I can drive of course...
:D Hells yeah!
Sidepodlicence?
Evening all :)
Hey Alex, hows stuff?
evening Alex. if you're just joining us, Scott (other one!) won the puma motorsport competition!
Just like the good ol' days in ALMS :D
Marc Gene has spent too may years at Ferrari to say anythng without clearing it with the press office
Awesome!
(I am)
Stuff is well... stuff is just stuff...
But things... well things are good :)
Was this one of the writing things?
Haha. Top advice, don't read anything from 4pm-5pm, you will get confused.
Really?
Yep. :D
That is like saying don't press the big red button
Well done. Really fantastic! What is the prize?
:) I'm going to have to go and read it now :)
I need a Daisy Guard.
Bonsoir!!
Loving the Le Mans coverage, come on Audi lol!!
This protest is just plain stupid
Is that another one of your drinks?
yeah oops.
ooops dosent quite cover it...
Fon't press the red button
http://www.changar.com/archives/redbutton.html
Don't
I've been asked by F1 Racing Magazine what question I want to ask Robert Kubica. Any ideas?
Ha!
Whoops I meant a Molly Guard. Got the name wrong...
I'm sure if I press it nothing will hppen
Why would you do that to me, no i have to go all the way through
I'm asking
'Will you move over for a nicer, kinder, non whiny driver, like Glock?'
same, couldnt think of one except "just how (insert appropriate word) are you that bmw didnt keep going with last years car?"
Do you think the team were right to give up on your championship campaign to concentrate on this year's car?
outstanding work.
How many years do you think you need to be in F1 before you can call yourself an experienced F1 driver?
I had to fo that the first time I saw it. Nothing happens. Honest. :D :D
:)
i already clicked on it... i donnae believe you
Is it true that you meet nicer people at the back of the grid? Does that make you want to stay there?
I don't follow...?
Ooh me likee...
yeeouch!
I got that too.
As threatened the other day during the parade lap the #f1nostalgia hastag is back BABY!
I have kicked it off with this
http://twitter.com/alexandronov/statuses/2106752362
Which is:
a) a good way to kick anything off
b) relevant for the next race
c) I don't need a (c) because the (a) and (b) were so good :)
.
I liked you Steven
Ouch!
joe's just posted some fun pics on his blog:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/emptying-the-phone/
no red umbrella though.
It's not my fault he is there. It is Ned Flanders
Could be useful for Silverstone visitors?
from @5LiveF1 - "The best place to catch the team is at the bridge over the main straight. The TV guys are in blue shirts, we are in the white ones!"
yippeee!
Just sent my reply e-mail to Puma Motorsport. Now to wait for the phone call :D
Aaah, I believe there was a black book of mine.
so no pink then?
I was just thinking - for the Parade Lap, I could leave a voicemail trackside if you wish.
Our voicemail is always open.
Cool, will make sure that's a priority come Sunday.
McNish back in the car again? TK hasn't even had a run yet
Live timing is wrong
Is there a video feed for Le Mans?
http://www.atdhe.net/7219/watch-24-hours-of-le-mans
Doesn't need to. He's too awesome for that!
Nice one, thanks.
Turns out he is in the car. It is just that the timing people decided he was McNish
Ah, rather wet there then.
We have a DBR9 in the gravel.
He doesn't look very Scottish!
#5LiveF1 is being odd tonight
Don't worry he will speed up eventually
jason's gone off the rails!
:)
Drunk tweeting?
he might well be.
Yeah McNish has to have some sort of marker ;)
another fota meeting happened today?
When aren't they having one?
It's there move
Someone's got to buy lunches? Cost cutting at it's finest there...
the quiz over at pitlane fanatic is about to start if there's anymore takers :P
Number 2 Audi parked on track
ah cool, might just head over quickly. one sec.
Evening.
Other than Le-Mans practice, anything interesting going on?
Erm, I won a little competiton but apart from that, nothing much.
Lotus have said they are nothing to do with Litespeed and are threatening them with lawyers
Ooooh. Which one?
Iiiinteresting. Will have to have a word with some composite people then.
Could be that Team Lotus will be using Lotus Cars/Engineering as a supplier - doesn't tie up with what I've heard though.
The Puma Motorsport fan report comp. Means I'll be at Silverstone next weekend as a guest of one of the Puma supplied teams. :D
If they were planning on supplying them they wouldn't be suing them
Cool.
Red Bull, Toro Rosso or Ferrari off the top of my head.
BMW and Renault too.
If they place me with Renault, that will be rather ironic. That's all I'll say on that one ;)
Plus this means I'll be at Silverstone twice in a space of a few weeks. Once for the GP and then again for the WSR. 2 free trips to Silverstone.
You probably all hate me now :D
I've read the full release - doesn't say anything directly about taking them to court, doesn't sound friendly though.
On the Group Lotus press site though, there is a Press Release Category for Lotus F1 :D
Nope - you have your penalty.
You have to go to Silverstone. :P
Worth it though :D
When you're sleeping in a tent and get woken up by the wind...you may disagree ;)
Who says I'm sleeping in a tent?
Well actually the campsites will be full, so good point.
ITV have an article up about the possible new entrants for next year ;)
"Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali insists the FIA cannot include his outfit on the entry list for 2010 when it is published on Friday, unless the governing body has agreed to demands laid down by the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA)."
Maybe it's not quite as positive as we'd thought
He sounds exactly like Dario
Solution to that is not to eat any of the nasty food from the fryup stalls. ;)
So why didn’t they do it last time in Paris? Could we be missing something here? {Comment #522}
That was because last time the case was centered around Ferrari's veto. Easy to prove (so easy that even a one-day injunction meeting could tell it was there; the rejection of the injunction was on one of three different things, depending on who you read) and relatively simple to get enforced.
Using the Concorde Agreement requires multiple documents of varying degrees of confidentiality and age read and understood, possibly dragging out the procedure far longer than the veto route.
It's not the wind I'd get woken up by, it's Dad's snoring.
Bah, all time travel consists of is wibbly wobbly timey wimey….stuff. {Comment #568}

There are 5 as usual. Please don't post answers till after the quiz
Forgot it was the quiz. I'll come back later then.

The 5th one is a killer.

I like "Remember Me" a lot :D
depends where you started!
Hey Everyone
Whos online atm?
hey chris
I'm online, that guys online, that other guy over there and a few people in the corner. Apart from that there is noone onlibne whatsoever, in the world.
:P
i've found 4 now, i think it was the one you were refering too
I am currently watching the Japan GP from 2007 and LMFAO at Mark Webber's commenting on Vettel hitting him.
What a race!!
LOL Lukeh
Hi Chris. It's quiz night a pitlane fanatic so it is a bit quiet here. THe quiz will be over soon.
Feel free to pop over and catch the end of it

Thanks
Le Manss practise is on
http://www.atdhe.net/7219/watch-24-hours-of-le-mans
Live timing at http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/pages/chronos_gb.html
There are one hour and five minutes remaining. I stopped listening/watching so I could do some work, I'm just peeking at timing, SPC and Tweetdeck every 15 minutes or so.. Tomorrow is the more interesting day - qualifying.
I tell you whats freaking me out slightly...
I've been listening to Radio Le Mans races on itunes over the last few months, and it's thrown me because this is live, i keep thinking its a podcast
Decided to give up the quiz this week and write a blog post on today's good fortune :) :
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com/2009/06/once-in-lifetime.html
It’s not the time travel it is the grammar related to it. You should read the hitchhkier’s guide to the galaxy on this subject. If you travel back in time and do something how do you phrase it before you go. You haven’t done it yet so its not past tense but you are doing it in your future but its not really future tense etc {Comment #594}
If you think relatively (and you'd need to in order to effect time travel), you'd use the future tense (assuming you had to use one of the current English tenses).
If you think objectively (and are in denial about the whole time travel thing), you'd use the past tense, nelogistic tenses or not.
With Christian Bakkerud and someone called Mondini {Comment #666}
Giorgio Mondini is a Swiss driver who did one Friday morning practise for Midland in Malaysia 2006 (sporting a white helmet because the helmet he expected to use caught fire in its bag before leaving the paint factory). Not heard of him since.
Alia's "Fuel Fing" with a couple of small tweaks in it...
Wow England 6-0 against Andorra. Ironically, I saw in a betting shop window the payout for a 6-0 win and it was a few hundred quid!
And Bakkerud is a Dane...
I said 7-0. Darn
He just made it out of the gravel. Had he not made it back the car was out of the race as the three drivers are rookies and they have to do 10 laps each in this session. {Comment #677}
Phew! He really doesn't need to do that when most people last remember him for the aero modification in France 2007...
Is Franck's car on track at the moment?
No his is number 8. That is Minassian
I know, I'm just asking whether his is on track as well as the 7.
Franck just returned to the track
Is Christine sitting down?
What's been going on in Le Mans practice?
BTW, I saw Gavin online at PF earlier. I thought he was at Le Mans?
Lots of rain
Are the Andorians feeling blue after that performance?
Congrats to Scott for his trip to the British GP with Puma. Well done.
He goes tomorrow
VERY well done, Scott! :D Perhaps a portent to bigger things? Hehe. ;)
I hope that even after he writes for Puma, he can still manage an extra guest post for us on the lighter stuff. ;)
8 car exiting the pits. Who's driving?
Patrick Dempsey the actor??
Timing says Franck
yup
WOW. Now that's impressive. :D
he's meant to be really good
Really? Now I'm intrigued to see how well he does. Maybe I should tell m'lady - she has the biggest crush on him. :D
Not mcnish by any means, but lots of experience and a good pair of hands.
Indeed. He doesn't need to be a McNish, but as long as he can hold his own, that would be more than enough. :D
Thanks Andy :)
We'll see. I'm not expecting anything, so if anything does happen it will be a nice surprise.
That is something I've been meaning to get round to.
:D
Why did you leave the quiz, BTW?
Kinda lost interest a bit.
Awww. A shame. Hope you're around for next week.
Next week, this is to everyone, I'm the host. And all the questions bar one are from 2000-2009. So points for all!
Yeah I should be :)
i'm IN!
I am so in next week.
although I was in this week despite all the turbo questions ;)
That sounds good :)
YAAAY! :D
Those are the ones I struggle with
the only one i might be able to do and i'm not amount :( booo
I actually noticed that last week - was very surprised with that.
I may join in myself then. Actually, I'll give you my answers now:
BMW. Kubica. BMW. Heidfeld. BMW, Glock. BMW. Iceland.
What does Iceland have to do with BMW?
Oops. that second BMW should have been Sauber.
:D :P
Damn I'm too predictable.
:D
I can also supply answers for an evening when Amy hosts the quiz.
You'll mention Villeneuve and Williams too at some point. ;) Maybe even Vettel...
But the time's too inconvenient for Amy... :(
Amy is affected by time?
c'mon, that is the silliest thing you've ever said ;)
Will that go something to the effect of:
Heikki, Kimi, Heikki, McLaren, Heikki, Mika, Heikki?
Who's been a big failure this year?
Which driver has the largest forhead in F1?
What is WMB backwards?
who is the hairiest driver in F1?
BMW or BMW?
fill in the missing gap - ______ will be the greatest driver in history.
where do mums shop?
Oh no, I missed one BMW out! my plan is foiled!
:D
hahaha! but honestly! i usually don't see her around when i'm doing the quiz. ;)
I used to like you as well Lukeh
Mums shop at BMW? :D
Maybe in RG's world they do somehow and Iceland supermarkets are going to place an entry into F1. I mean, everyone else has.
She can't spend her whole day at sidepodcast. She spends two hours a day assimilating the universe
aha, i know this one....
Juan Pablo Montoya :D
:D
:D
Hahahahahahahaha!
What have I started?
I do have a strange mind, but I have more dreams about Iceland and not F1. Iceland the country.
Wouldn't it be good if an actual country entered, I mean like the government, Iceland Gov F1. That would be good.
Of all the european countries you could choose, you go and pick the one least able to afford it.
I said a few weeks ago how the Ryder cup next year is gonna be greeted by a city that's half complete because of so much contruction gone wrong money wise and still awaiting redevelopment that should've started over a year ago (and the main reason I still have a job!).... just seen this
Keeps me in a job I suppose... :P
Who knows?
What on earth im talking about
Just thinking (as I do) - if I get placed with Ferrari, I wonder if I'll meet someone by the name of Rob... ;)
Ahhhhh!
argh, if only you could have waited a week...
I just got an email from puma {Comment #702}
Congratulations, Scott!
Thanks Ali :)
autosport now also picked up on the lotus story:

Goodnight.
Night RG
Even with the answers, I still couldn't spot the 5th one. Oh well.
Back to bed. Good night. :)
aha!! It's the cockpit one i couldn't get
*sigh* if only Puma supplied Brawn GP as well.
yup - missed that one too.
I missed the same one
I spent ages look at that part, totally missed it
If Jenson gets pole and I cheer, I'm gonna get some funny looks from everyone in the team I'm with.
http://www.gprdirect.com/OnlineShop/Product.do?c=12&g=28
If you have a spare £1000 then they can do...
à bientôt RG
No white ones. Damn.
nos da!
Night RG
They do them, just not for that model, you'll probably find those ones aren't F1 compliant anyway, i didn't look. They do white ones for other models though...
I just saw co-driver boots. Whatever next?
Fireproof but less tight and more comfy i'm guessing?
Thicker soles apparently.
Makes sense. If you are ballast in a rally car there is no need to have soles that wear out so quickly
Ah yes, of course. My boots have thin soles, really not for walking around lots in...
Racing boots have really thin soles. Walk over a small sharp stone and it is agony
They're not that thin, (although depends on the stone) but thin enough to be bendable
So why not just some normal boots that would be worn by other crew members? I'm just amazed by the specific product.
They're fireproof. They're called co-driver boots, but could just as well be "refueller boots" or some such like
The ones I had were unbelievably thin
I guessed that they'd be fireproof. The blurb does mention refuellers, but I would have expected everyone to wear similar safety gear.
Generally unless it's a big series, only fireproof overalls are needed for refuelling and then you only need proban ones...
Fair enough then. I just thought it was another way to wring more money out of people. ;)
More from Bruno Mantovani, a video of Turkey. Have a guess at who's the butt of all the jokes again :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrAmIeKKMj4
haha, that and them not getting burnt alive..
http://madtv.me.uk/f1insight/images/Jos94.jpg
springs to mind
Verstappen didn't have a co-driver though.
Love rubens. that awesome
No, but his crew got set fire ;)
Fantastic photo
That's great.
In a "it's a miracle they didn't die" kinda way, yeah. ;)
Hahaha, aww. poor Rubens
why the meanness to piquet though?
i thought that was nando
Erm...he's rubbish?
Well yeah, although from memory it was one of those "flash" burns.
i'm definitely no fan of nelson but he was great in turkey.
in turkey? he didn't put a foot wrong did he?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyZpASrVAsc&feature=related
I noticed that another "Jay" appeared over on the iphone app post, so I'm gonna use my real name. Just letting you all know so you weren't wondering who I was ;)
Evening all.
Just catching up with some comments (it's been a long busy day).
The video of Jenson racing the scalextric car is soo cute! :D hehe.
O.O ... !!!! ooh dear.. i expected more from the bbc -100 for the bbc.
That's brilliant news Scott!! congratulations!!
wohoo! i'll try and make it then :D
that wasn't you? my apologies sir.
I think basically that joke towards Nelson signifies he's on the brink of losing his drive. No idea who the mystery driver is...
*cough*Grosjean*cough*
You mean the car behaved itself this week.
WooHoo! Got one race right.
Nope it wasn't, unless I posted it and I don't remember :D
i did post a comment saying hi and catching up with other comments but it was moderated (twas using ye olde commenting) so hi how is everyone? :)
i happens, trust me :)
One of the guys that works with us had a brother in that fire
Not sure if he's with Renault still
Evening all
******ing freezing
Well I know I don't have the app, so thats how I can tell ;)
odd though - no jay's for 2.5 years and two the same week.
like bus's
:D
Hello Lou. You may want to hide your cog. Don't, whatever you do, bring it to Goodwood as Mr C wants to add it to his collection (is a single cog a collection?)
Strangely, I'm a Jay but have never beeon one online! :)
It is the start of one ;)
Just found a great new little cartoon series called Los Minidrivers. It's actually really good and really funny! :D This is a great one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrAmIeKKMj4
haha :) not sure what i'd do with the cog at goodwood anyways :) it's much better off sitting on the shelf :)
See if anyone needs a spare one? :P
That's a link to Mantovani?
Runbens?
ahaha that's a good point, last year Alex Wurz broke 3rd gear in the car, maybe that could have helped :P
Ahh, one sec.
Here's the right one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G01qPewwWhM&feature=related
:D
Because he doesn't win them very often?
http://twitpic.com/72qd5
Frozen from GP2
So the next panel can have a team of 3 x Chris and a team of 3 x Jay
Quite possibly! :)
And he likes fish fingers! :D
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8094088.stm
Got to love our scientists always look to the far off future :D
Sure, JUST as F1 gets back together
I know it's being reposted but they announced this just as I make this?
No coincedence. I just know it.
Do i see a picture of Franck?
Chuckle brothers
How exactly would Paul and Barry save F1?
Could they do much worse than those currently running it?
Hi Lou.
You missed a tricky quiz and six hours of Le Mans practise
Only Jonathon Legard has the answer.
although I'm pleased to hear Barry is full of ideas.
Well I would get rid of Max for a start.
..oh you don't mean me do you
I would pay to see Paul and Barry Chuckle F1
Oh dear oh dear.
or Chris's
:D :D :D
I wouldn't be so pleased based on watching their TV shows
Los Minidrivers is pure genius :D
http://www.youtube.com/user/LosMiniDrivers
It'd fit in with Piquet's driving
Well actually the campsites will be full, so good point. {Comment #864}
Kingsley No Frills Camping is still available...
When you’re sleeping in a tent and get woken up by the wind…you may disagree {Comment #862}
I'm half-expecting to be woken up by the sound of the tent falling down on top of me, given its design...
I love my tent - takes 3 seconds to put up...
And 3 people and 20 minutes to take down. :D
OK, so now I'm going :D , who else might I see there next weekend?
Pop-up i presume?
Ah the chukka tent if I'm not very much mistaken. I have a reflector that works in a similar way.
Fantastic things. Unless you're camping alone.
or it's windy, I imagine.
I'll be sure to take lots of pics and upload them both on Facebook and drop.io as well. Now that I think about it.
Hehe. Wonder what it's like in the packing section of the factory they make them in?
It's not too bad when windy. it's all sprung loaded so it stays reasonably rigid.
"why can't i go in the hammock?"
"because you're a vegetarian, you'd need a hommock!"
:D
One day something big will hit the Earth. Probably something that won't be predicted until it is too late to do anything about it
I expect they handle them every day so have it down to a fine art - mine is used once a year - if that.
So no large groups of people watching them try to flatten bits of it with various handy rocks, buckets arms, legs and a lot of swearing.
Bruce Willis will save us!!
This can only happen after Bruce Willis has died, of course.
I can hear helicopters already.
Laughter powered?
Of course.
I believe they're known as ROFLCopter SPC Special Mark Is
Or maybe even McGuyver
Unfortunately his plan or nuking it doesn't work
Oh don't get all "real life" on us
I thought the solution was to nuke it from orbit - it's the only way to be sure
:-)
Won't work.
are you trying to tell me all those movies......!
yeah it will, it's all about team work...
I love my tent - takes 3 seconds to put up…
And 3 people and 20 minutes to take down. {Comment #1063}
That's OK. Dad's prediction is 40 minutes to put up (increasing to 1 hour if there is more than 2mph of wind and "forget it" at about 10mph) and 25 minutes to take down. In both directions, 2 people are needed.
Stuff that. I'd sleep in the car. :D
I know! Stargate on the meteor!
i'd book a hotel.
How about using the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis?
mines got poles and everything, i can put it up in just over 5 minutes :D
Isn't he in a band?
How do we know that for sure?
OK, so now I’m going :D , who else might I see there next weekend? {Comment #1064}
You might see a lot of famous people who think they can sing at the post-race Grand Prix party (free to ticket-holders).
Best bet is to heat up one side of whatever it is that is coming at us and divert its orbit. Trouble is you need to know a long way ahead
Unfortunately his plan or nuking it doesn’t work {Comment #1082}
Not even if you nuked it before it entered the Solar System? OK, that won't work for Kuiper Belt Objects or anything closer, but it's a possibility...
That could be interesting if the thing heading towards us is Venus. ;)
It's a book. You have to say "Klaatu. Varada. Nikto" before picking the book up otherwise the Deadites will rise and attack.

very funny
As would I.
Travelodge would do. All I require is a roof and a reasonable bed.
Got bored of homework and now looking for Isle of Man vids for a blog post.
If we're talking silverstone....book now, they'd probably be fully booked already
Stuff that. I’d sleep in the car. {Comment #1090}
That works for sleeping, but would probably lead to us wearing the same clothes for three days - not the nicest option...
LOL
'Hi, I'm Vista. Wanna crash with me tonight?"
LOL
Last time I stayed in a Travelodge, it had one of those blue lights they put in public toilets to prevent people injecting themselves with drugs in the bathroom. The management were unable to understand my annoyance (the blue light gives me an immediate headache) and the sheer futility of putting such a lamp into the bathroom when there were normal lights in the bedroom.
mines got poles and everything, i can put it up in just over 5 minutes {Comment #1094}
So does mine - but there's no instruction manual and they came in a bad labelled "Sun Porch"! No, we're not taking the poles...
"I promise I wont tweet about it in the morning..."
:D
Caution - this one could get you slapped...

I've done a couple on there, even though I've never had cause to say a pick-up line in my life...
Last time I stayed in a Travelodge, it had one of those blue lights they put in public toilets to prevent people injecting themselves with drugs in the bathroom. {Comment #1109}
Oh, so that's why my local library has one of those in the toilets. I thought they couldn't be bothered to replace the bulb with one that worked normally due to the expense...

Um... ...spot the Twitterer who has never attempted to use any pick-up line (geeky or otherwise) in real life...
They make it impossible to see your veins properly. They also make me feel ill very quickly.
Double um... ...I don't think I've ever been retweeted before...
They make it impossible to see your veins properly. They also make me feel ill very quickly. {Comment #1116}
They make me bump into stuff (e.g. sinks) because I can't see properly in the low light levels they emit.
technically they make you ill quickly. i love 'em.
I mean so quickly I have problems using them for their intended purpose without ending up with a headache for the rest of the day.
any idea why? they're brilliant at gigs.
None at all, although I do wear blueish contact lenses and they don't.
Maybe they don't want to wind up on the naughty step, so they might be scrambling to line him up.
