Hello there. Here is your useless fact of the day, according to the people's encyclopedia. Today in Sweden and Finland, it is Anna's day - a day that celebrates anyone called Anna. Isn't that a bit mean to people who aren't called Anna? I assume there is a reason but I cannot find out why. A mystery. Anyway, here's some F1 stuff:
- Mr Buxton has a post on the recent Silverstone deal, which reminds us that although it's all good news for the British GP, there is still a track that has been left as a building site with no immediate prospects. In the comments last night, we were trying to work out who was to blame for this - the Wheatcrofts, Gillett, Ecclestone - the list is endless.
- Whilst we're on the subject of complete and utter failures, I have given up on Twitter and gone back to using Identica. I know there are only a select few people over there, and I won't be pushing madly for others to join - although come and say hi if you do! - I just wanted to let you all know where I'd gone.
- I also updated the Daily Post Guest Writer wiki page with space for a brand new week of guest writers. If you fancy having a go, or another attempt if you took part last time, then sign yourself up. It probably won't be until January now, but get in there early to secure your spot.
That'll do it for now. Don't forget, a new advent show goes up every day until Christmas, just a few moments after this daily post appears, so head on over to relive a moment from the 2009 season. I'll see you in the comments.
Hoooray.
Wednesday
if someone invented permanent hair removal that was actually permanent (those laser people LIE) they might be my favourite person ever.
woops i changed threads. Silly mobile doohickey
I thought everyone was going to stay in Tuesday
Amen to that...
Are you using the mobile? We should all move threads if so.
Evening everyone :)
lets talk about. Um. Spa. While the bosses are away i will play. (i kid, i kid. Lets talk about my trip to monza. Someone should come with me ;) )
Woah. Do my eyes decieve me, is this Mr Andronov?
Evening Alex
Oooh oooh oooh pick me!!!
It is... 'ello!
Hello Sir
Was trying to convince Mr fourstar on the importance of Saturday's attendance today
So how is everyone?
I thought you were skint?
It's important work... Is Lou attending?
ya + Emilly
Sadly I am. So is Amy however ;)
alison! Come to italy! Alex! Why are you awake!
But she's commited to going now
ah, we've had a shift change?
I'm still here, just reading and catching up on podcasts.
Yes and her mother is happy cos Emily is too
#emilyisgoodinfluencenoted
ive already paid for my ticket and my hotel :D
How can you have organised that so far ahead and yet you couldn't organise getting dressed in 5 hours on Sunday
Ah yes. I do really want to go. I've really not worked out what I'm doing next summer. It depends on whether I'm going back to uni in September or not. If I am, I should be saving up all my pennies really....
Hey. Just sent you a message on Twitter
and if you are not?
If you are you should really enjoy the summer because it means you will be committed to uni for another two or three years depending what you are going to do
Can't stretch to 2 x F1 races in a fortnight... but I was thinking of the LMS at Silverstone which unfortunately clashes with Monza... depends what next season's racing is like I think.
I am supposed to be in bed
moi?
Just received... Will reply to you in the am if that's okay...
Nope, Alex. Sorry!
That's fine
ah. booo. i got excited :P
I can enjoy the summer cheaply though! I had the best summer ever last year. 3 weeks holiday cost me £200. I couldn't even get a race ticket for that....
Transcribing tool comes to iPhone (currently free, US account holders only)
http://www.macrumors.com/2009/12/08/dragon-dictation-brings-voice-transcription-to-the-iphone/
Are you London based Chris?
Chris...
You're not funny ;)
Nope, Gloucestershire. I've been to London many times though, so I know the tube system inside out.
Sorry :D
Where did you go?
was that the German trip?
I cycled about 700 miles across Germany with camping gear on my bike. It was good times.
hmpf. i got excited that i got a text and then realised :P
i gotta sleep. night all
night
Night Jon
Sounds cool
Yah. Fun can be cheap. I'd completely do it again. Shame cycling in this country is akin to suicide.
So, Google's Chrome seems ok
Just trying for the first time
I need a holiday
Asia is calling, it's been too long
I've never been out of Europe. I'm quite cautious.
I figure Europe won't change as fast as some of the other places I really want to visit
I can see more of Europe when I'm older and [hopefully] richer
new zealand is sad you bailed on it. You made the country cry.
Boooooo!! It makes me sad too really. I don't know. I guess impulsive doesn't suit me.
Do we know when this party starts on Saturday?
it wasnt impulsive, you had it planned ages in advance!
When i was offered to take a year's sabbatical, me & two other friends went from offer to departure in six weeks.
We circumnavigated the globe, best year ever
7 - 8ish
Can always meet for drinks beforehand
I know where Chateau Giggles is
At a guess
it did seem fairly well planned!
blimey
I love NZ, especially the S. Island
My only regret is not seeing China before the boom really kicked off
Sorry New Zealand. I have forsaken you. I'm off out to Dubai in January I think.
95% of it was business class
Lucky backpackers we were
Okay cheers. I'm not the sort to invite myself anywhere really, but I'm gonna need somewhere to sleep...
If Giggles can't then I'll be able to oblige. You'll be fine
I've changed my mind about coming, I was sort of against the other day but now I'd like to, the only sticking point is what to do when it is all over! If Alex or you or one of the others can put up with an extra one...?
There are probably remote parts still like it, 'tis a big place.
I'd be interested in a normal non-biased person's opinion of the place :-)
cool, cheers :-)
I'm getting into London at about half 4 if you wanna meet early
Of course, they are very aware of the tourist boom these days though
Glad I got to see Laos quite untouched
China scares me far too much. Governments like that scare me beyond belief.
I'll work out somewhere convenient to meet.
Probably will need to get a train from either London Bridge or Victoria I'd imagine to these parts
How are you getting there, train? Which station? I'll be coming into Waterloo and I can be there that sort of time.
Also Sunday I can mix in a Christmas shopping trip, yes I am aware that this is suicide in London 2 weeks before the event :-)
Hahaha and you're asking me....? ;)
Train to Paddington.
I knew someone who was going to Myanmar [Burma]
So much hassle
Fact: It is illegal to photograph bridges in Myanmar :)
I know that you are more of a realist than he is :-)
at least for that area..
Chris, I've got you on Twitter don't I?
crazy!
I think so... *checks*
Yeah, I get that. It could be a run down shopping centre and a dilapidated bus station and he'd be raving about it :P
btw I don't talk anything like as much as I comment/tweet.. i'm trigger-happy.
I think tourism outside of official Tour Groups are still banned
Pat's a good listener ;)
IYep, I'm following you
:-)
Drink helps
What's the appeal of that? I just don't understand it.
DM me and I'll send you my mobile no
Texts on Saturday will probably be easier
Done. Added my number to the message
Do you still have mine?
I think it is to do with seeing something most of us won't see. Or something?
Aye
Me neither but for Burma it meant they could control what tourists see and more importantly, not see
Replied
dear comments. What should i have for lunch? I just realised the lunch i prepared is on my kitchen bench at home. So hungry. Lots of love, Amy
Yeah absolutely. I don't really see why you'd want to go visit a polished view of a country. I'm not hugely adventurous, but I can't stand a tourists view of somewhere....
A healthy yet spicy wrap?
SE Asia sounds perfect then ;)
Start with Thailand or Malaysia
What are the options?
Thanks. And now, I'm off to bed. See you tomorrow!
Night fella
Night
options are pretty much anything, i am in the cbd. I dont do spicy though :D
I was once partnered with a Malaysian for a clinical placement. They tried to give me and some newborn babies TB. This is the only contact I've had with the country....
This would get me shot for being non-MFC if other people were around, but I ordered a CD and I can't find it, either it turned up and I lost it, or it never turned up... and after the move and the revision etc, I can't remember which it is. So I am requesting another from the guy's website (he replied himself!)
Chicken satay?
I had a cornish pasty yesterday, do they have those in Oz?
They're more of a pie crowd ;)
eek.
ooh i like satay. Might head to the food court at Melbourne Central and see what i can find.
#oppositeperson
Same
I love chilli
new tag :-)
I like spicy too, but not massively hot
Best not let the comments decide on Saturday's choice of take-out then ;)
Booooo! Stop rubbing it in!!!!
Sorry
I can do curries up to Madras level, maybe a touch more, depends on the place I think.. We're having takeaway?
oops :-)
Food is down to the individual's choice. Before, during or after
Giggles will supply the dishwasher
Righto.
I doubt Alex would let me in his house tbh so it makes no matter work or not.... :P
Is identi.ca just another micro-blogging place?
Nah, he's quite forgiving ;)
What do you think I've done???
Yeah.
No idea, you started it :D
In that case, I shall say no more....
I figured as you'd met him you might've revealed some transgressions or something :)
Not particularly. Although I was shockingly drunk.
i got a chicken wrap. Back to work!
It's ok, he's been drinking with Nick & I before
Good choice
that was quick!
Yeah somehow noone else was drunk... I don't know how that happened :(
Maybe they'd eaten...
They were better at it?
No. Most distressing.
I'm only little!!
Despite feeling relatively alert I should go to bed. Must attempt to leave a few mins earlier tomorrow because the stoopid country lanes keep having things in the way..
Will try to be more productive tomorrow, blog or otherwise.
Night!
See ya Pat
Night Pat
It's a tolerence thing
Size shouldn't matter a great deal
My road to work often has whole herds of cows walking down it to get from the paddock to the milking shed. Holds the traffic up for about 20 minutes. It's infuriating.
Are you native to that part of the world Alison?
No. I was born in London. If you ask Alex which part, you might understand why I'm not allowed to know where he lives :P
my tolerance is low because i drink rarely. Doing so on friday though! Twice in a fortnight is practically binge drinking to me
then i should consider myself lucky to only have tractors, hedgecutters, lorries, and people from dorset..
#waitingforsongtofinish
If you don't mind me asking, what drew you to the North West?
Probably not too far from me either then
#oddkiwibehaviour
My family live here. I had a pretty awful year last year and wanted to live nearer my sister. I was previously in Liverpool at uni.
i know where you live! #stalker
Speaking of which, did you ever do the papier maché thing?
Hahaha no! #sorrynick
Is that where you're considering returning to and to study...?
I know you use other banks to move money around the world :D
Blimey have you not heard my sob story? I'm in the middle of a medical degree which common sense tells me I should go back to. Really not that appealing right now though.
I recall now
Tough degree but worthy of pursuing
Doctors are a valuable commodity worldwide
Yeah. It's surprisingly dull though....
Is that why student doc's are such p***-heads?
No. Most people think it's fascinating which just makes the whole atmosphere all the more unbearable :P
my bank knows where you live too! Sleep with one eye open
[Not keeping Spa tickets at home]
chances of amy making it to england without posting a single comment?
i think bassano may know you're coming.
I know the day she arrives in fact ;)
no, you must keep them safe! I had a very drunk coworker at our christmas party keep high fiving me for sitting at "the best corner in formula one." High five!
*high fives back*
When they arrive, they will be
Awww if Bassano was in NZ, I'd definitely have managed to get there....
I hate printers!
i arrive on the 23rd of august at 7.10pm at heathrow terminal 3. I would not say no to a greeting party. With signs.
Should I make a giant board saying "Hi Amy from the internet"
It could become a www.goforodd.co.uk episode
if we come meet ya, are we allowed to park in heathrow airport?
Or more precisely, I hate my printer
If not used for a while, it seems to go into a coma!
What's your usual excuse for parking there? ;)
I'll swap you??? :D
:)
Postage may be an issue
What a welcome that would be though
am up for it. what day is it?
I'm more than happy to drop it off in person.... I know it'll find a way back to me anyhow.
Many many days. Someone should try to remind you nearer the time ;)
ooh id love to be filmed coming off a 24 hour flight crammed in economy. Bet id look gooooood. Or not.
its a monday.
how funny would it be if the one person who turned up to meet me was mr c. Id walk right past him.
you'd walk by someone that looks like a panda?
well... yeah. i mean, i'll forget by the morning, clearly :)
not sure the panda will survive saturday.
:)
u-oh
Parking at Heathrow for Chez Giggles = not a good idea
Oh shucks. Stupid LCLT.
what happened?
ahh no. fair point.
Nothing. I just forgot it would be in yesterday. I went to look for my printer related rant.
Ah ha! Take that Mr HP Photosmart!
What's on tomorrow's F1 press release calendar?
monaco business forum.
tomorrow i would like to find out the fate of mr kovalainen.
Slow news day then, schmoozing journos
Not till the bigger names are sorted, I feel
Mr C, did you see that Chrome for Mac is now released in Beta?
The Finnish press has already forgotten about him #sorryAmy
boo finland!
I disappear for an hour or so and come back to find Amy booing Finland. The world has changed
am using it. flash is about 1000x more stable than in safari.
Am watching Alex prepare to fire Houmous with a flip-top bin at a yet to be determined canvas
http://goforodd.com/
i blame that kulta fellow. Does he not realise they are name twins? That means he should care!
The side of his house, apparently
He believes Heikki will end up at Sauber
Blackberry houmous tastes like a bad sweet & sour sauce according to Katherine & Alex
I could see that
i haven't seen this yet, but i must.
Interesting. I didn't see that coming
sauber. Acceptable.
It is hysterical
You and RG can be team mates
if i wear a mclaren shirt and heikki cap or heikki shirt and mclaren hat i am covering both of my options. Spa outfit. Sorted.
Just as well Kimi went rallying or you would have had to find some Merc stuff to wear as well
fourstar sums it up quite well:
Sort of the twisted offspring of Melvyn Bragg, Geoffrey Boycott & Delia Smith
Saw some comedian on TV a couple of days ago. Can't remember who. They were discussing Tiger Woods and he said the people he felt sorry for were Gillette. Gillette picked the three cleanest cut sportsmen to promote their brand. Tiger Woods is now in all sorts of bother. Thierry Henry handled the ball for the goal that got France through to the footbally World Cup finals. So only Roger Federer is left unsullied so far.
There's still time, good things come in 3's ;)
roger is the worlds nicest man, i am sure of it!
Most people thought that about Tiger Woods. I wonder if it is better to be smacked round the head with a golf club or a tennis bat by an angry wife.
I'd rather a lightweight, carbonfibre tennis racket than a titanium golf club and a good swing
why does stuff like this never happen to schumacher?
Cos he wears a crash helmet and his wife can't slap him round the head with a Ferrari?
she could run him down in an f40.
he did that loreal commercial, he's just as worthy.
For all we know she bought him the motor bike
:D :D :D
because he isn't that kind of cheater, unlike Mika (that hurt to type)
ooooooouch.
#sorry kathi.
I just knew that would appeal to you
i might be regretting this convo.
#sorryamy
i'd add it to comment of the year, but christine would never let it fly.
ah but tiger went down the "i am a successful sports man watch me marry a model" route i am always sceptical of. Roger went down the "marry a plain tennis playing gal i met at 18 before anyone knew who i was" route
hehe
let's talk about something else. Thunderbird 3 is out.
i have it. the search speed is magnificent.
You can't knock a person for falling in love with a Scandinavian. You just can't!
Thuderbird 3 was on TV in the 60s with the other 4 thunderbirds
lightning doesn't work yet for me :(
lightening?
I preferred Thunderbird 4
Calendar plugin?
Winblows only?
the calendar extention.
ohhh. have never used that.
am using it on the mac.
my favourite was Brains.
really??
Check for updates says nothing :(
Still prefer iCal
uk locale may not be ready yet: http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/
Eddie Jordan invented Thunderbird 4
I got direct now, will install tomorrow
oh no, it is:
http://en-gb.www.mozillamessaging.com/en-GB/
odd. not sure, but i didn't do autoupdate.
:)
i hated thunderbirds when i was a kid. But i loved him! Think it was the glasses. Then he popped up a few years ago advertising visa or something.
How can you hate Thuderbirds. That is like hating choclate
Mr C: I posted a link about a transcribing app earlier [yesterday's thread?]
http://www.macrumors.com/2009/12/08/dragon-dictation-brings-voice-transcription-to-the-iphone/
Some reservations but it may be the first of many
I liked Joe 90 more
doesn't work with the touch though :(
puppets freaked me out. As i got older i quite enjoyed watching it on a sunday morning when it was on :D
You need to get an unlocked 8GB 3G
He was never as good as Thunderbirds. Thunderbirds had all the great toys and Tracy Island
You do know Brains was a puppet as well?
Summary info: iPhone/iPod Touch App
?
how, there's no microphone?
Maybe it was the theme tune
What about mp3 files, like podcasts
Isn't there an aftermarket earphone thingy with a microphone on the lead?
maybe. i don't think it can cope with conversations though. naturallyspeakin is a one person transcription thing.
ahh, only on the new touch. not the first gen.
brains was a puppet! Nooooo!
Never liked Captain Scarlett though
They all were :D
The original was Ok but I saw the newer version a while ago and it was rubbish
you're not the same person as christine at all :(
*googles*
Ohh. They are on Finnish TV.
An episode of True Blood, then sleeps
Night all
night chap.
Night Bassano
Night
i like early shifts, you all stay up until i go home. Although that is 55 minutes away and my phone battery wont make it that long.
You need to keep a charger at work
i had one at work then i got kicked off my desk so now i dont have any drawers i can keep it in.
am going to call it a night.
night mr c!
try not to work too hard in the last 15mns,
Night.
Urgh! I have to get up in 2 minutes
ugh. Poor kathi. #blamefinland?
Ouch
Time for me to go to bed.
Good night all
Finland isn't doing very well tonight :D
Night Steven. Good morning world
Morning.
5-6ish, Not 7-8ish.
Pat, if the party tails off before the trains start running we have a spare room which you are very welcome to.
I'd say Victoria as that's where Lou will be arriving.
Of course I would! You are welcome to come Alison!
hooray shopping is done. Now I have a bag to travel with! and a padlock to lock it with! and a sleeping bag liner!
If only there was a spot on the internet where you could record all of this stuff together and write articles about it ;)
#christinesnothereyet ;)
if only!
#good ;)
Morning :)
For Pete's sake Amy, why aren't you blogging?
effort.
What else are you doing in the evenings? Can you not write a note on your phone while you commute or something?
If you just spent 10 minutes you could have a rough draft of a post just like that...
I have lots of rough drafts already. I just find 'I did this today' blogs kind of boring and thats what all my entries seem to be.
That's what your blog is though - an 'I did this today in preparation for my trip' blog?
that is true. heh. I am lazy.
I think you are lacking inspiration. What do you want to get out of your blog? Comments? Views? That your Mum reads it?
Also, what do you consider is a good post?
My mum reads it. She wants to know what I'm up to when I'm away, and when I make big plans. I am not sure that she'd care that I bought a padlock.
I don't know :D I am not good at this blogging thing. I only have one because I can be talked into anything :(
She probably just wants to hear what you are up, to be honest. I would love to hear an update from you and I am sure others would, even if it may feel like you are repeating stuff here. Why not write about how you are considering your Great Uncle's grave? Maybe go into a little history about him?
I'll get around to it. One day :D
A padlock shows you're taking your security seriously. She'll be able to show it to your dad and say... "look they have padlocks in Europe too now... Amy's going to take one there".
it even has a removable steel cable so I can padlock my bag to things. And its purple!
blah blah blah not listening waiting for blog post ;)
I shall do one tonight. Just one. But I won't if you force me :P
And I must have my dinner first :P
See, if you collate your comments here, that's half a post already!
ok... everyone shhhh.... Don't mention it anymore now!
Right I better start thinking about other things so I don't talk about the wrong thing... So Christmas... I'm going to visit my family right after Christmas but my old suitcase has got a bit broken so I'm going to have to buy another one.
I am going to have to read up some stuff about that on the internet ;)
pssssh
I'll shhh myself now... Right now I'm going to work out what time Lukeh can leave Wales and still make it on Saturday...
IT TAKES 4 HOURS!!!!
The last train is at 19:28 from Cardiff (he lives in Wales I'm guessing that's just down the road from him ;) ) I wonder what time he finishes work?
I'll make it if I leave now!
Boo STA Travel doesn't sell tickets for soon enough :(
Is it not quicker to drive?
"Due to insufficient processing time international bookings are not available inside 2 days of departure." hmmm I could leave on Friday! ;)
http://www.lastminute.com.au/flights.html also needs you to phone... What a gyp!
Does Lukeh have his blowtorch?
That's RRRRubbish - I know from my wife that if your papers are in order you could leave now!
this finds flights, not cheap though!
Do you have $2,177 spare? Korean Air will get you here for that.
Not even for a sidepodparty!
Oh :( But there 'aint no party like a sidepodparty... :(
oh. I thought there ain't no party like a backstreet party, cause a backstreet party don't stop.
Incidentally tickets are on sale for their Melbourne show and I haven't purchased yet! I think I'll get the cheap one and hide at the back up the top.
Gavin do you have 1764DKK lying about? Is that a lot or a little I have no idea but that's what BA are quoting for Copenhagen to London (one way)
my currency converter says that is 214.739 pound.
It was the title of last years party: http://sidepodcast.com/2008/12/21/live-there-aint-no-party-like-a-sidepodparty/
totally stolen from the backstreet boys. or possibly s club 7.
I do, but I have two birthdays to attend this weekend (Gran's and Mother-In-Law's). It's too short notice for me I am afraid :(
And 1746DKK is about a month's worth of Groceries for two, or a third of the rent, or two week's train travel...
Fair enoughski
Mooorning :)
Morning :)
you are up early :D
Yes. Boooooo!!
since you're here, can you go to my kitchen, get my chicken and bring it up to me? I'm quite comfy here and moving isn't in my plan for the evening.
Can't your chicken just walk over? :D
its just wings! maybe it could fly up the stairs? technically there is some in my room but its the stuff that I forgot to take to work so its been out of the fridge for 13 hours. Mmmm food poisoning.
Morning all.
Morning :)
Looks like it's all kicking off in Copenhagen on Friday
And yes, the company I work for would probably be considered the jewel in the crown of the targets planned. The good news is that I have a great view of the front entrance from my window...
I am a bit worried for the weekend... I tried to get Google Maps to calculate directions from Rockall to my house but it said it couldn't be done.
I didn't realise quite how far out to sea rockall is... http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=rockall&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=21.225198,50.493164&ie=UTF8&hq=Rockall&hnear=Rockall&ll=64.699105,-11.25&spn=31.761699,100.986328&z=4
Silly Google maps not having a "by helicopter" option!
Can we land the helicopter in your back garden?
Sure why not... It's on a bit of a slope... So it depends on your flying style I guess.
Cor, it's been ages since Mr Humphrey blogged: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2009/12/looking_forward_to_sports_pers.html
Nice one :)
I see whats happening here.
:)
I am having dinner as we speak. Which leaves only one thing to do tonight.
It's been a while since I did a stats post ... looks like I will be firing up Excel tonight!
And me... I hadn't blogged since 23rd of November... But I have now: http://www.gamboling.co.uk/2009/12/creative-endevours.html
I was in Borders this afternoon and I saw a book and I thought 'I must see if Amazon have that for the Kindle' and now I can't remember what book it was. Boo.
CAR Magazine seems to think it will be announced today that Renault will be bought by Prodrive - but I have no idea how accurate that story is...
Not much F1 news today... How is everyone going?
People are talking about their plans for Christmas, and someone is saying his family is all over the place, so they're celebrating Christmas on the 20th. I'm not sure that counts as Christmas.
we once did it on the 24th. I know they do that in lots of countries but it still didn't feel right.
Also, Franck news: http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=353525&FS=
David Brabham will be reunited with his Le Mans 24 Hours winning teammate Alex Wurz and fellow Peugeot Sport stars Franck Montagny and Nicolas Minassian as they join the Celebrity Karting Challenge primarily in aid of Malaria No More UK at Autosport International, on Friday 15 January.
Morning ladies and gents
Morning Lukeh!
I heard this morning they may be opening a 3rd Greggs in our city centre. clearly they are just spoiling me now.
Morning :)
How will you choose between them?
I was trying earlier to work out how long it would take to get here from you. 4 Hours! What time do you finish work?
I shall give the new one a chance then make a decision. perhaps the BBC will make a series out of it and I'll get to have 2 experts besides me and a big table with a sausage roll from each shop sitting opposite me
Yikes. 2 hours to get to London paddington but beyond that, god knows. I finish at 5pm.
Morning everyone! :)
I like this: A Day In The Internet – Killer Graphic
Then you can be with us by 9! Yay ;)
45 million status updates a day!!!
It is right in Denmark because you celebrate Christmas on the 24th and the 25th ;)
Oh dear! How do you cope with more than one day??
I know. I wonder what percent mine make up.
I'm annoyed I can't make it to the party saturday. teach me to preplan things.
Well, the first time I overate so badly I was forced to sit upright until 4am watching my Father-In-Law's DVD collection - basically old war movies!
It's great fun, if you love eating and drinking with the family!
Looks like googles realtime search has gone live on the homepage now (search for f1 for example).
I wondered if it was valid for all searches. Doesn't look like it is I typed my name in and nothing was there. But weirdly I did spot that Amazon has taken out advertising on my name! There's a link to buying my book on Amazon right under the search!
Shame!
I know. the one time I pre-plan something and it clashes with something else :)
How far in advance did you plan it?
Ooh, interesting.
I don't get it, this never worked for me? It hasn't changed away from normal goggle in the past week or two
Yeah really not so much.
couple of weeks, but i've been told i'll be in a lot of trouble if i try canceling.
This for me is the best part of christma,s everyone hunched around the tele watching Dr Who and whatever is on. I need to go to Denmark
My cousin who lives in Australia has told me his address... I think something is wrong with it:
56 Uluru Drive, Bruce Park, Rolf Harris City, Australia
The more I try and stay out of Christmas related conversations, the more I am dragged into them.
I think people are
jealousfascinated at the thought of not doing the festive thing.Really? It's even easier to see if you search for Sidepodcast
Rolf Harris has a city!
Then you would hate it.
We also hold hands and form a ring around the Christmas Tree to sing carols :)
Really?
Only in my cousin's fevered imagination
Don't tell Mr C, he won't be impressed.
Yeah - the kids love it!
5 Massa Spins!
:D
totally legit. totally.
mine hasn't changed either.
That's just across the road from me!
Seriously though, roughly where is he? Sydney? Melbourne?
Is he having a party on Saturday night?
I really would. I feel slightly ill thinking about this.
Ah. We've just been officially warned to take care on Friday when the protestors come!
Brisbane
Tell him I sent you ;)
That's even further than Lukeh has to travel!
Better leave now then...
Lukeh is in Old South Wales
flippin' heck. what happened to leaving stuff in beta for 11 years?
Just a DeLorean ride away?
I prefer Real South Wales
;)
It's a realtime thing maybe they wanted to release it in realtime?
Just look at them and tut in disgust. I'm sure it'll make them go away
So Lukeh... Is there really no chance you can be tempted to travel up after work?
:)
What if you wore a purple armband (I think that's what that site from earlier said). Maybe you'd get the day off work?
From the sound of it, that might not be enough!
We have a great view of the front door and I will bring my camera 'For Sure' :D
It's not a matter of you tempting me, it's a matter of time, geography and trains together badly :(
Or get fired?
You could be with us by nine? ish... Bassano will only just be revving up by then.
I hope you're sitting down. I'm almost finished a blog post.
Woooohoooo!
I think they are just copying the Doohickey
I think we've all learned a valuable lesson here this morning. Nagging Amy works :)
it might be a tiny bit better :)
its no secret that the comments can make me do anything. Except like Dr Who. And Harry Potter.
Do you know I listened live to Buzz Out Loud last night and was shocked - the page was full of places where it was too easy to click and navigate away from the show page.
The chat window was tiny with no resizing and no options to change font, so following comments was difficult. When I asked how to resize it, I was told to get an IRC client!
Also, the mods are super strict - I got banend for using Caps - all I said was 'SOUND AND VISION' when the feed came on!
All in all, a much worse experience than any live show on SPC :(
Zoe and I are discussing spending less time on the computers, and more talking to each other.
The current rule seems to be:
eyes closed = computers off
eyes open = computers on
that sounds like a perfect relationship to me.
More like 10:
Cardiff Central (CDF) to London Paddington (PAD)
Departs
17:28
Arrives
20:32
It might take an hour to get here from there though...
wow. high praise indeed. cheers sir.
Hehee the train stations have three letter codes like airports now? :)
and thunderbirds?
nooo I liked that before the comments. Perhaps if the comments were around 15 years ago they could claim that too.
She doesn't like Thunderbirds?
Incidentally, we have desks at work that can be raised or lowered by flicking a switch - the slow steady motion just makes me think of Thunderbirds :)
Eddie Jordan had a blog?
i guess we're going to birmingham in january then.
we need to be outside/reallife friends
Considering I appear to have a self-imposed restraining order on the man, there is little point.
hehe. you have never seen him race though?
No, that's true.
Supposedly the world's funniest email exchange.

I sleep now. Bye

I call shenanigans - sounds like a great way to big up both people's profiles...

Vital information for people going sidepodpubbing at the weekend. Your health depends on this.
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20091209/tuk-beer-may-cut-prostate-cancer-risk-dba1618.html
We have just been advised we can work from home on Friday.
Thing is, even though I would normally jump at the chance, I kinda wanna come to work just because I'm stubborn!
Bad gavin! if work says stay home, you stay home! :P
You crazy man.
#oppositeperson
Blimey! Good find Steven!
I'll remember this on Friday. I'd hate to get prostate cancer.
For wanting to come in or for not taking the chance to work from home?
Both!
I'm gonna bring a camera too!
But what about staying home and getting a lie in!
And miss all the fun?
absolutely! Lie ins are more fun :P
Our Favourite Formula Jon is testing F2 this week...
Did his tweeting work?
I wonder if he will tweet while driving?
AOL and Time Warner are finally splitting. Odd fact: AOL still has 5.4 million dialup customers!?!?!?! What?
what??
guess where i heard this news?
Identi.ca?
:)
*not here*
Afternoon all. Couple of very interesting panels this morning but too much to transcribe. Been helping a certain WEBSITE too. Brain is fried!
pluggety pluggety I have blogged.
http://daydreamingoutloud.com/2009/12/09/the-hunt-for-the-perfect-bag/
now leave me alone!
Liked your blog post.
Same here. Commented too ;)
I have commented
ooops
Waiting for the white van to pull up any minute...
Afternoon Sidepodworld
:D
you can comment on it, just dont ask me to blog for another month or so :D
Hi.
Thanks Alex, just saw your comment. I am currently trying to find out what time the last train is on Saturday night, I'm quite happy to go back if there's a midnight train if everything has quietened down by 11, I just wanted to make sure if the reverse happened and things went later I wasn't stuck. :-)
#MFC
The broadband tax has been included in the chancellors speech...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8403273.stm
Absolutely... But likewise if you don't fancy travelling back immediately you are more than welcome to stay.
Hoorah! Finally some sense
#sidepodhospitality
stuart, i may have confused your blog. please ignore the moderated comment.
I have just been to actual clothes shops. It was horrible. I need a brandy.
:)
*passes brandy*
#sidepodhospitality
what was the particular issue? Too many people?
My wife is the same - she hates clothes shopping. She's not very #MFC but she does order all her clothes online!
Thanks
There weren't too many people although it did take an age to get through the tills. The real issue was having to select and purchase clothes.
*tuts*
real life shopping... so not #mfc ;)
#mfcfail
http://www.sirjackiestewart.com/flyfree.htm
This is that Jackie Stewart single that was mensioned ages ago....2! yes 2! Autoplays. Booooo
I know. Do as I say, not as I do.
I hate clothes shopping, I always go alone because other people like to do things such as browse. I go in and get what I need. ie, I need a red skirt, I look for a red skirt, if they have none I move on. I don't browse. Shopping sucks.
engineering works on both lines, thanks SWT
What I would suggest is selecting a combination of clothes (for example blue shirts and, say, tan trousers) and then just buying the same thing when the old one runs out.
I've never looked back :)
Don't get hurt!
I will wait until tomorrow to decide - it looks as though we will all be staying home...
you should have a sidepodvote ;)
due to engineering works at Southampton the last train home which comes all the way home and doesn't leave me stranded in Poole, leaves at 9.30pm and includes a 30 min bus ride..
due to engineering works on the other line it is the same story, just without the bus!
feeder-series.co.uk?
firstly...you got the url wrong... and secondly...nope ;)
i have to say, i feel a lot better about notus after reading this:
"I don't think we can claim any of the heritage but we obviously have a great relationship with Clive and Hazel Chapman. We're in Norfolk and a few miles from Hethel. We are very clear about making sure we don't destroy any of the prestige, we have an advisory council to make sure that we protect what has been built by Colin Chapman and the people at Lotus."
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80493
Ooh thats good.
Agreed!
#notmyfaultyoudidn'tregisterthealternatives
And the comment on Stuart's blog about Tony Fernandes: http://www.stuartcodling.com/2009/12/bernie-holding-f1-back/
that makes me feel happy about the future of f1, rather than the future of notus.
"A taxi service with all female drivers and exclusively for the use of women has begun in the Mexican city of Puebla. The service is meant to provide an alternative for women fed up of disrespectful male drivers - and the only males allowed in the pink cabs are boys under the age of 12. "
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8327130.stm
Good point.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80501
Nudge nudge bernie.
Interesting to compare Stuart's article to this article from a different WEBSITE: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80501
Especially as they have a typo about EBEYDL or as they put it... IBITA rather missing the point.
Two things:
1. This is aligned with what Stuart said in his earlier blog post about many people being impressed with Tony Fernandes. Perhaps Notus getting back in may not have been such a bad thing after all. Might even be able to call them Lotus in the future without squirming.
2. If Notus/Lotus do stick around, perhaps Scott can finally get his shot to get in to F1. ;)
true, but i quite like notus :)
You say finally like he's been at it for years.
Hehe. Good point, but time moves so slowly sometimes, it seems like ages since the season ended. :D
happy Anna's day to you all!
We don't have any Anna's do we? We should try and get one lined up for next year.
My colleagues bought me a present: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/2009-12-09-14-08-07
I think they might have got the message.
Awwwwww
:D
Excellent :)
I also got asked if I was a Jehovah's Witness earlier.
You have to be so careful how you phrase the "I don't celebrate Christmas" thing.
Do they actually know you?
Only a couple of them.
If I'd ever got the chance, I would have! But things are progressing nicely with CTL and I reckon we're almost there.
Afternoon all :P
Also just remembered, there's a guy there who visits CTL every now and again and he was Jim Clark's chief mechanic when he was with them. I bet Steven would love to have a chat with him someday. :P
Ooh you sound like an f1 driver negotiating a move
So this bloke says to me, "Can I come in your house and talk about your carpets?" I thought "That's all I need, a did-you-hoover's witness".
When did i last hear that type of sentance.....oh yes, Ross Brawn talking about Jenson staying :P
Are you in contact negotiations or something?
I'm waiting for Scott to announce he's making an announcement.
Are we all going to the Press Conference?
Hehehe.
Tim Vine is my personal hero :)
*gives alex a thumbs up*
Hehehe, not quite. Just got to get the references from my past employers both sorted and then get a letter from CTL for the Jobcentre so they know what I'll be doing for them and I've got to fill in a form for the Jobcentre as well. That just needs to be sorted first.
He's coming to Norwich Playhouse in a couple of months. We're gonna get tickets to go see him :D
He's amazing live. A one point I thought I was going to stop breathing.
The first time I saw him he walked on to stage holding a gate, said, "yes I do walk with a distinctive gait, I have only just got this back, I actually witnessed the guy stealing it, I would of said something but I didn't want him to take offence (a fence)"
And there was no stopping for the next hour!
I like the one where he comes on in a pink wig, holding a stick and said "I'm gonna start tonight with some advice - never eat candy floss on a rollercoaster"
One time he spent the first 20 minutes of his set merely arriving on stage. And nothing beats pen behind the ear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pwbQvJDFzQ
don't know if this has been mentioned while I was gone, but with so many of us getting back on identi.ca now, I'm using spaz (getspaz.com) as a desktop client.
I just watched a man with little hair throwing pens over his shoulder for 4 minutes and 23 seconds.
I would like those 4 mintes and 23 seconds back please.
Kthxbye
Sorry.
Perhaps you need some of the jokes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx9EIMiGaJ0
I am introducing my uni peoples to etherpad, good times
Oooh, excellent. They likes?
It's kinda too bad I didn't hear about etherpad until Google bought them and they shut down for that short time.
Did you sort your bubble sort?
He should quick sort his bubble sort
is it a stable sort?
Their minds are blown. :D
Mind = even more blown
what?!
doh! :(
Well, it's never tried to kill me, if that's what you're asking....
(According to wikipedia, it depends. I haven't had to implement a sorting algorithm in a long time)
Although I didn't sort it out after nope, to answer your question.
What we're doing is like an argos catalogue, and he wants us to have related items in the same category when looking at an item, for example, if looking at a TV in electronics category then related items like DVD player should appear. apparently, according to our lecturer, using a bubble sort is the best way to make it work but we cant work it out al all, SQL searches and allsorts. Tis driving us all a bit loopy.
I'm just messin' with you. Sorting algorithms are an interesting thing that I haven't had to mess with in a long time (since I'm done with most of my undergrad CS classes and am now finishing up all the other stuff, math, history, etc.)
so all the data you're looking at/using is in a SQL database?
It's in an access database and we have to use SQL queries, yeah. My use of terminology sucks, I'm sorry. we haven't even been tough SQL so it's trial and error finding what to do.
hrrmmm... I'm not experience with access, but if I was doing this with MySQL, I'd have a "related categories" table with 2 columns, first column is the category that the user is looking at, second column is a related category. There could be multiple entries for each category the user is looking at.
I think from there you can build a query (either inner or outer join) that gets all the items in the related categories.
Of course, I haven't had to build a query like this in 4 years, nor do I know if Access can do this.
And you should be able to have the database do all the sorting, using ORDER BY tablename.columname
bingo bango bongo
mental. it sounds like what we're doing for "related posts":
http://sidepodcast.com/2008/02/29/il-maschio/
sure as heck doesn't use a bubble sort.
I don't even think I can see a use for sort here, except to put the things in order of which is most relevant?
There's a group of 4 of us here and noone can work out where a bubble sort comes into things.
you could bubble sort that data, but it would be slow.
i've never had to if the data is already in a database, but as an example of something that could be sorted that way would be the "contributor" table at the bottom of doohickey. it used to have a comment count beside each name, and once i planned to sort by the amount of comments rather than alphabetically.
it's client side info, and disconnected so a good candidate. never got around to it before we removed the count though.
Now that must be a present worth having ;)
It doesn't actually fit on my head, sadly.
you're presumably not going to show all related items, because there could thousands. right? so you'll limit it to maybe five items. in that case... which five?
you need to sort by something. what criteria are you using?
Generally, my philosophy is this: If the database does what you need it to do, use it. Chances are the software developers for said database have spent a heck of a lot more time optimizing their sorting algorithm than you ever will.
it's possible that access isn't up for it? dunno, haven't used it in years.
Yeah, but sometimes you just can't get it back to the database fast enough. If it's user side content then it's harder to do. I think the only time I ever end up doing any sort stuff is in javascript because I'm doing something for the user without the round trip.
For example clicking on the top of a table to be able to sort by a column.
We have a 30 item database, and I have 10 different categories so theres 3 items obviously. what I'm just doing is to have the 2 other items in the same category appear as related items when you're looking at an item, if that makes sense. again, this is all on recommendation on how to approach it from our lecturer.
so the criteria is to make the items appear with the same category I suppose
You can do order by in t-sql I seem to remember
It's possible, I only ever used access for one small project... uhmmm... 12 or so years ago.
access does t-sql?
I though it did... looks... it does something called "Access SQL". Smart move there Microsoft!
you probably need to be working on a bigger dataset, to really understand the problem. with 1,000s of rows of related data, a sort would make sense.
Ok, I'm really liking this "Stuart C" guy's blog.
:)
What's a bubble sort? It sounds nice. Like an aero.
*Aero.
Looks like Access SQL does have order by in it: http://www.adit.co.uk/html/sql_for_access.htm
Something like that... The data bubbles up to the top.
what's the man going to order by? his counts are going to be equal?
I wish it was as tasty as it sounds
Well I don't know :)
Maybe they should be alphabetical?
Or... Can things be in more than 1 category? And you are supposed to be putting them in order of most category matches?
i guess. i thing with a 30 item dataset i'd type them by hand :)
This mouse here is in: Peripherals, Mice and Logitech.
This other mouse is in: Peripherals, Mice and Microsoft.
This keyboard is in: Peripherals, Keyboards and Apple.
Sorry... point being the other mouse is more relevant than the keyboard so should be higher
sorry, they already finished the Channel Tunnel Link
;-)
This little piggy went to market?
ooh very cool
I've seen him on TV arrive on stage with a gate and he said "what an entrance"
The thing is that a bubble sort is so rubbish that you never would really want to implement it... I think Lukeh is using VB.Net isn't there: MyArray.Sort(MyArray) built in?
must have. i think you were right earlier. javascript is really the only time you might have a need for it.
*shakes fist at carefully worded assignment briefing* :(
someone will know the name of this, but ms used to ship a default sample database containing a bunch more useful data than you're working with. can you not use that?
Hmm might have to have a look for that then.
I think they want to teach structures. That's my guess. I mean you want to sort by something, but you very rarely want to sort by id, you want to sort by name and get the ids back in order so you can render the data.
sorry I've brought it up a lot recently too, tis probably very annoying :(
This time tomorrow it will all be done and my head will be safely screwed back onto my no-weight-of-the-world shoulders!
Northwind
that's the kiddy.
http://www.codepedia.com/1/VBNET_ArraySort
We so should have called our wiki Sidepodpedia. It seems to be the done thing.
have we named it then?
I always called it the Sidepodwiki or the wiki. Don't think it ever had an official name.
Too many p sounds for me there...
Well it comes up with Sidepodcast on the wiki, as it takes it from the name it was created with.
If anything there's more d sounds than p!
maybe it should have one.
Like Sidepodpanel?
sidepodhub :D
Ironically, we need a wiki page of suggestions!
I just realised that tomorrow is the 10th! Do you know what that means? It means its a special end of row day. I didn't record a special end of row day video... And I'm out tonight...
*looks both ways for fourstar*
(I am actually working from home but you get the idea)
I think I'll get away with it... Hopefully nobody will call.
:)
Phew did it.
That was quick! Short pun tomorrow, then.
not at all
That's the thing can't be a pun for an end of row... (in the rules that I appear to have made up) It has to be a review one like the news thing.
Oooh, good stuff. I like rules for no reason :)
"why isn't my query working? Argh! I hate this stupid program
Have you coded it to that button?
... ah damnit."
I feel sorry for my friends having to put up with me sometimes :)
Also it was supposed to go short joke, long joke, but then I didn't have enough long jokes and Mr C made me record a whole load when I came back from the Christmas party so then I decided it had to be bow tie, no bow tie. So it's all good :)
I am thinking we should all record Sunday's joke together on Saturday :)
Or one joke per person.
That reminds me, today is someone else's Sidepodversary. I can't remember whose and can't check from here
who's ?
Just checking. One sec...
Happy Sidepodversary Journeyer!
Afternoon all.
And Scott Woodwiss, whose Sidepoversary was on Monday... (oops!)
:-)
It was Scott's the other day I now notice... And Steven's is on Sunday!
Hey RG
Afternoon!
yes!
Thanks.
I wasn't sure if it was whose or who's.
whose was right. Who's = "who is".
Jon,
Are you on StartledBunny's Podcast?
ta
HA
yes. thats scary. i'm not sure i like it anymore :P
id also like to point out thats not my normal voice, and i dont usually like im going to break down ;)
Cool. I liked it!
seriously??!
Yeah - it fit in with the song too...
Hello, folks.
Just got home, so I'm off to bed.
But before I do, let me just say:
BOO Abu Dhabi!
#sorryNick
That said, I'd be VERY surprised if the Interlagos management said yes.
They will need to pay them a laaaaaaarge amount of money!
Night J
via Bernie's girlfriend? ;) Just kidding.
Night, J.
oh, foohickey :(
Foohickey indeed.
BOO Abu Dhabi!
I think that sums things up nicely
Serbian Formula 1 hopeful Stefan Grand Prix has revealed that team owner Zoran Stefanovic and Toyota F1 team principal met last month in Belgrade to discuss a 'co-operation opportunity'.
chalk that one up as a +1 for joe then.
http://www.racecar-engineering.com/news/cars/434087/stefan-grand-prix-confident-of-2010-f1-entry.html
"Number one we have to be ahead of Branson, otherwise I will retire and kill myself" - Tony Fernandes
i may be looking forward to 2010 now...
http://bit.ly/582IM9
WOOO GO Lotus
Brave statement. The last new team I remember setting aggressive targets was BAR and that didn't work too well
I'm just glad the Toyota and Honda people weren't saying stuff like that!
The weird thing about the request by Abu to be the last race is that in the very first timetable for 2010 I thought that they were last... and then moved by mutual agreement....
Or am I confusing some other track change?....
As far as I know they when the Abu Dhabi race was first announced the press release said it would be the last race for 2009 but would then move to another slot in the calendar.
headping for mr. andronov (assuming he hasn't gone out yet)
i know i'm not alex... but hi :)
must have the frequency wrong.
hi lou.
hehe maybe try the traditional headping? ;)

Helloooo
I'm not Alex either, clearly something gone wrong.
Mmm.
Haagen-Dazs Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream :)
Carry on!
are you kidding me?!!? you break up before i do?!? bah :(
My semester is over, just finals left! Luckily I only have one this semester.
damnit.
12pm friday.. but thursdays are always lovely days cause all i have (lesson wise) is textiles :) and no lessons just end of term stuff on friday :)
grrrrrrrrr
Language young man! ;)
:P i have retakes and module exams in January/ February though.. so no fun holidays for me
i have 3 assignments, i'd sooooo rather be doing modules.
Hello again
clearly mr c's head ping has issues
:)
shall change the batteries.
was only going to say that ustream have enabled live streaming from the iphone, wanted to see if he could give it a road test before the weekend.
am heading away from the comments for a couple of hours, if alex stops by, please pass the info on to him.
later all.
will do ;)
have fun :)
ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
could you tweet it to him?
#mfc
adios mr c
Bob Dance? Jim Endruweit?
I'm in an aweful mooooood. booooo
Alex is supposed to make sure the headping system works and he is ignoring it.
Whats up?
I don't knooww, it's very annoying. Am just in a rubbish mood, it happens every so often.
Am now exhausted. Hey everybody again.
That's normal...
Evening
It's irritating is what it is.
Evening everyone. Cutting str8 to the chase, is it Pat's turn to host Thursday thoughts?
Evening. I believe it is...
Yay, got a question yet?
I have eaten so much rissoto I think I'll go pop
I've got two in mind. One is the one I put on the list about female drivers, and the other is about digital media but I haven't put any thought into that one yet.
I was looking in the wiki but couldn't find the thread .. there's so much stuff on there I find it difficult to keep up
This is a handy page to search: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/The+Best+Sidepodsitemap...+in+the+World
And the Sidepodsearch incorporates the wiki too.
where are the wiki wizards when you need em
Oh cool, I didn't know that :D
The page you are looking for: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Thursday+Thoughts
Helllllo.
tehe, the head ping works then :D
I'm liking the Flavio question
 you know I saw a link to that and thought it was the listener map .. that's a very handy page to bookmark.
I think it's Bob. The name rings a bell trying to remember it.
Is this the mysterious "Bob" that magically becomes my uncle?
Just checked the CTL site, it is Bob Dance.
:D
haha :D
Just glancing through planetf1's latest and this caught my eye...
"However, the newspaper reports that Red Bull are unwilling to let a driver they have spent so much time, energy and money on leave the team."
It's about Algie and comes from this article...
http://planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5760449,00.html
Have Red Bull not heard the saying... "Throwing good money after bad"....
He is a proper legend
With so many people trying to buy Renault, I would be suprised if none of the unsuccessful bids hadnt tried to grab STR.
It looks like a good time to sell..
I think he is worth a full season. He was dropped in at the deep end last year without a single test day before he had to race the car. Give him the winter to prepare and lets see what he can do next year.
Vettel was the same, and look at him now! (although Vettel did do that race for BMW, as well as a few tests as third driver)
Its 20 past midnight and i have just gotten around to reading the daily... bizarely i know a finnish girl called anna...
Anyhow, bed for me, was nice to see everyone having a go at bernie about f1 on the web...
In other news wisdom teeth are rubbish, and clearly not very wise... grrr
so i guess... Hey all! // night!
Night!
Night sir.
*reads daily*
Isn't it just normal the normal nameday for Anna? Don't you have namedays?
No.
I found it very odd when I lived in France for a while. People kept turning up with booze and food which we spent two hours consumong before going for lunch because it was their saint's day. I had never heard o such a thing but the custom in France is when it is the day of the saint with your name you take booze and food to work and everyone you work with has a pre-lunch party. Most odd. Especially as lunch breaks were a little longer than I had been used to anyway.
evening all
If you thought the BBC's F1 review clip was good, check this out. Simply awesome.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSAnD9Qb13Y
Wow 2 mins in and I reckon Jon would enjoy this ;)
West Wing is nearly finished. The video is in a new tab and it's almost fully loaded :D
interesting.
in some regions and/or families in Germany it is more important than your birthday. Although not in mine, which is shame because I would have nameday three time a year.
In France at work birthdays and saints days get equal treatment and equal alcohol and food. I have never worked anywhere where so much drink flowed during working hours. It was like Bassano was in charge
whats the name of the song?

"Vettel was the same"
I don't recall that he was remotely like Algie....
I seem to recall that he did pretty well fairly quickly... even when being thrown in after the Kubes in Canada incident...
He got a point in his first race and then was swapped to Toro Rosso and took a fourth place in China... I was opposite the TR pits and the engineers went wild whilst the Red Bull guys slunk away....
Liuzzi who had a whole season in that car got 3 points in the same race....
I really think Vettel shone in that first season whilst Algie didn't....
thank you :)
The last one is Requiem For A Dream by Clint Mansell.
Nigels Brother
Vettel is miles a better driver than Alguesuari is. But I think that is down to the fact that initially in 2007, testing was allowed. Alguesuari, I like him. I think anyone who came in mid-season got a tough break due to the lack of testing.
China, I think the car was just very good wasn't it? Again, despite Liuzzi's total awesomeness, I think he isn't as good as Vettel.
Plus I think Vettel was older when he started? Probably by a day or something, but still.
evening
That's an excellent find!
I subscribe to that channel and it appeared on in the Subscriptions box. Glad I watched it now, it is pure awesome.
agreed. Alguesuari didn't have any F1 testing experinece considering he was drafted in as the reserve driver a week or two before he got the drive.
I may have to embed that on my blog..
What series was Vettel in in 2007?
World Series by Renault, or was that '08..
Evening everyone. Hope all is well in Sidepodland.
evening
He wasn't at Silverstone in 2008. I'd have remembered the name after hearing his name around the time Kubica was BMW's 3rd Driver.
Okaay, *scribbles out next argument*
You have been ignoring your headping.
Not bad. Trying to find the perfect bass line.
Just checked and RG was right, it was '07. He should've won it that year, he was dominating it, before he was plucked into F1.

Hellllllo Alex.
Ah my headping was going like mad but I couldn't leave what I was doing. Soz
or you embed it in yours and I'll link to you!
You, sir, may be on to something.
I reckon I know what to do.
From Mr James Allen
"Sounds like Abu Dhabi may get moved back to the last race of the season. Will South Korea be on the calendar? It comes out Friday"
Its like Friday will be like some sort of FA Cup draw. Except less dramatic.
Like Bernie puts his hand in the draw Jar, reads it, doesn't like what he sees, and puts it back in.
I maintain that the South Korea race will not happen, yet it will be on the calendar until spring.
Here ya go, Pat.

Poifect
very good!! v.enjoyable
you are soooo not funny :P
Hot balls and cold balls
That video does reveal one thing I didn't know - Susie Stoddart speaks German.
I think thats an awesome way to decide the calendar. Draw numbers, David Taylor of UEFA (he has to be there, tis the law), of course some seeded ties, and work it from there.
It says alot about a driver career results when they don't list them on wikipedia
Whats the story with Susie Stoddart? Her results speak for themselves
Job done. I'd started a series of videos a while ago but didn't get very far before stopping, I needed a good kick to get the feature going again and I'm all for promoting what others have found.
And very well too it seems!
How do you mean? I like her, she's the Sarah Fisher of DTM. All she has to do now is start a team. Being in 2yr old cars for most of her DTM career really didn't help.
Her results for her whole career have been average, i don't know anything anything about her and am not nieve enough to just judge by driver db, but i'm not entirely sure why she's there in a manurfacturer backed car?
She's earned her way up by perservering in old cars when only she and 2 others had them out of a 20+ car field. This year I think she was in a 1yr old car so something of an upgrade, but I gather she didn't fare much better (I haven't kept up).
Not all that great in F3 though.
I hate to say it but I think Susie has a rather helpful boyfriend....
And he could be why her German is pretty good...
Is Amy still around?

Awesome.
I have a tumblr blog for that. I need to do more linking in that though, it's more embed vids than anything else.
must try harder
Since I only got 2 hours of sleep last night and I have just fallen asleep in front of my computer I am going to bed.
Night all
Bye Mr Roy.
night Steven
Night!
Evening all.
Just back from a night on the sauce with Noble, Burrows, et al. Not much use to man nor beast. It's been a very heavy day and my digital recorder is groaning with input. I'd have to clone myself to transcribe it all. Some very interesting stuff, though.
Good night.
Evening. Superb blog-postery today.
Hi Stuart.
Just post the Audio File. We won't tell anyone, much. :)
You lucky bar steward. What I wouldn't give to have a chat with you lot ;)
Good night peoples!
It would probably break the wifi. It certainly broke one of my batteries. My fingers just aren't fast enough, although JN did look over my shoulder and say, "You've transcribed THAT much?"
Night mate.
I bet you get a job at AUTOSPORT now ;)
night Gavin
Night!
He'd definately deserve it :P
Or any other series before really, from what i can see she won a title in karting upteen years ago, but thats about it.
Just like Button then.
Night
Button didn't win that many car championships, but he was always there or there abouts, 1st 2nd or 3rd.
How did he do in British F3? I have a feeling Sato had better results.
Shame Gavin just left, because I've just seen he's become a fan of Classic Team Lotus. Yup, they're on Facebook.

I'm going to join the throng of people hitting the sack. Is there anyone here with the power to make a day last 48hrs? Could do with it, because I've got an F1R feature to write before the end of the week and the deadline is approaching like a miffed rhino.
3rd in 1999 and I think Sato won it a year later or not long after
You're still working with F1R?
Night Mr C (Stuart, not "me" :P)
Button
Third in Formula 3 Britain 1999.
Second in Formula 3 Macau GP 1999.
Second in Formula 3 Korea Super Prix 1999.
Sato
British Formula 3 champion 2001.
Masters of Formula 3 winner 2001.
Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix winner 2001.
Third in Formula 3 Britain 2000.
I think Sato won it in 2001. A year later, he found himself in a Jordan.
See, Sato deserves to be in F1.
We're often asking for days to be longer..
Night
hahahaha dosent work like that!
I do agree though :P
G'Night Stuart
night Stuart
Stupid F1.
Night Stuart.
box/worms/opened
I think he is much-maligned... people seem to forget he got better after Jordan... eventually
He liked to go round Monaco with a smoking car. He became quite popular after that.
WHAT??
This looks to be the perfect opportunity to run to bed. night. lotsa love
*runs*
hmmmm
night RG
think it's best ;)
night RG
Hey there... Are you able to do a quick test?
I also noticed a Qik update today too (guessing they too have added 3G support)
I open the doohickey for the first time all evening, and I see that Sato should be in F1
Clearly this work has made me delusional and seeing crazy things
*goes back to work*
yup.
ooh. okay. what i need do?
I believe the parties involved have fled from the scene.
:D
bring back sato!
#stillrunning
remember to stretch otherwise it'll kill ya tomorrow
Although it might have something to do with me mentioning him in the same breath as Button. Perhaps I should get my coat.
*gets coat*
night all
night sir. and rg.
Evening all. Just a quick hi - been busy playing with iPhone apps all evening including ustream. It appears that you can now stream live video from iPhone to the world :)
I have forgotten the page name for the live streaming page...
Indeed!
http://sidepodcast.com/playground/livestreaming.php
I am going to go live now on there...
woohoo!
I'm not sure I'm quite ready to share my live stream just yet
see you!
Is that from your iPhone?
how do you have 7 viewers, if i'm the only one commenting?
yes
*lurking*
hehe hi giggles :)
:)
ooh, i see the delay
hi!
I'm watching too. Looks like there's a delay of about 30-40 seconds - can you show me the time again?
I've got no feed at all
I may have pressed play on the wrong one :-)
am keeping quiet mainly because i'm looking at possible camera bags i may as for as a christmas pressie.. i'm after a really nice one, like a crumpler.. but i just can't choose! :)
He's gone off air to switch off the wi-fi and test over 3G
back now
ah ok, that's why it says 'recorded live' when I play it
I see it
that's on 3g?
muuuuuuch better than qik.
hardly any delay between that comment and hearing it being read out.
Alex, are you on the 3g iPhone? Or did you upgrade to the 3gs?
3gs
Cool. Just wanted to see if there was any chance a 3g could run these apps. I'm guessing no...
No, because the 3G camera doesn't support video.
I think the processor is the key differential. The nokia with qik and HDSPA was slower than Christine's phone.
We and as I say we haven't seen qik on iphone over 3G.
So it will be interesting to test.... Sync is taking a second or two because another application is being installed which I didn't know about
(sort of)
Although the App page on iTunes says 3G is supported.
no rush. this may be the tipping point when we have to sell christine's kidney...
I think they mean "over 3G"
The only rush is I am supposed to be in bed! ;)
Nope, says "iPhone 3G and 3GS model" then "over Wifi and 3G" underneath
Hehe.
Confirmed - ustream app is iPhone 3G compatible. I'll have to find someone with a 3G and ask them to test it...
*cough :)
Katherine has one... I'll test in the morning
Okay Qik test starting shortly
i see nothing?
RIght I'm already up too late again so will say goodnight.
night chap.
byeeee
night :)
Qik isn't live... A video may well be coming to you now... but not live. It's NOT a very exciting video.
oh.
ustream ftw!
Indeed... I shall take you all shopping with me tomorrow to celebrate :)
brilliant!
ooh, not before i'm awake though?
Etherpad = awesome
it was
i have a non-live, non-interesting video in qik.
No probs lunchtime
...and it's buffering more than ustream.
ace.
there is a special bit in there where, especially for you, I show you how many tabs I have open ;)
How rubbish. Quality wise any difference?
very similar.
Awww... Rubens is gonna be at Brawn GP tomorrow to say goodbye to the team :(
what went wrong?
google bought them.
aww!! fancy a trip to Brackley tomorrow?
explain? whats bad about that?
Hand in the assignment, head to brackley. Perfect. :P
have you tried wave?
great! you can take photos for me since there is no hope in hell i'd be able to convince my parents that it's more beneficial for me to go to brackley than school :P
nope, i have an account, but i have no idea what to do with it
I'll be too busy crying :(
The point of wave is to go on, post a wave, get confused and not bother with it I think
aww! silly 2010 season ;)
Hopefully Rubens will forget to take Jock Clear with him
*runs*
hehehe :)
time to sleep, night all! xx
Goodnight
Night Lou
i think the etherpad people are being brought in to give wave some direction.
it won't necessarily be bad. i just liked it the way it was.
What about when Wave reaches, or hopefully reaches, the expectations you had when you see the potential of it?
good question. haven't thought about it much since working on site updates. will look into it properly in the new year.
Hello peeps
Wot no Thursday? ;)
ooh. one sec.
why was alex asking after me at 9.45 #curious
Hi Amy, we've moved
