Sunday rolls around, and it's worth noting for anyone wondering that there won't be a live show tonight. However, we'll be around all day for comments, so you can still come and talk to us. Meanwhile, here's what we're talking about at the moment:
- Dank has an interesting insight into the goings on at the Red Bull factory. We think they're all locked up for a fortnight, but apparently they're also being used as a skate park. Question is, if you could get inside the Red Bull factory, what would you get up to?
- Scott has written a post about the different music used within driving games and how epic it can be. Music certainly does set the scene and can be very powerful, hence the endless compilation albums of driving songs. What are your favourites?
- Mr C has been busy yet again, and this time he's introduced some donations goodness on the playground. We're trialling some new things because we want to make the donation process less hidden and more accessible, especially giving shoutouts to the lovely people who hit that button. Let us know what you think.
That'll do it for now, I reckon. We're having a nice, relaxing weekend but getting plenty done, and I hope you can say the same. Let us know what you're up to and I'll see you in the comments.
Hello Sunday!
hello! (waves from Saturday)
Has anyone else noticed that their seems to be a lot of officla F1 toilettries about? it just seemed a little strage to me...
BTW, A certain north american racing championship's website is amazing, hopefully Bernie will have a look at it some time and spend the deodorant profits on his own.
I have also noticed that they do not smell good.
They seemed very cheap, i almost bought some just to get a free f1 keyring :P
We got a free hat with one lot, and a free toiletry bag with another. Worth every penny :)
Does anyone know who who she is or what her book is?
link fail?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a79DzC4PMk
bev turner. did itv coverage for a bit. went to all the fancy parties and then write a book saying f1 is a bit sexist.
Is it worth reading?
for £3.75? inc p&p
haven't read it. just saw it on the shelf.
my objection is, when she wanted a job and the exposure, she was happy to play along. and then she married a rich man, didn't have to work, so turned on the sport.
f1 is sexist, but her involvement made it worse, not better.
I have bough tit 2nd hand so she wont get a penny.
Although i suspect i may be laughing at her, not with her as i read it
oops
Which is why I heart Louise. Because even though her and DC made me retch on several occasions, she garnered great respect in the paddock.
bev was employed to go to all the parties that louise wasn't young enough, or attractive enough to attend. harsh but true, and she happily took that role and played along when it suited her needs.
so far as i know, she never attempted to understand, enhance or change the sport. maybe i have her wrong but louise, holly and lee are miles above her in all respects.
In that order ;)
i wrote that without thinking about it. but yeah, i think that's correct.
louise loses points for never giving us a shoutout though.
True. She didn't place a bet on Felipe Baby. Boo Louise :)
I never really liked Lousie, i cant put my finger on it but she annoyed me some how. I am not fully convinced by Lee, i (perhaps unfairly) suspect she got her job through Bernies friendship with her father. Holly is absolutely brilliant though.
I agree on Lee, but with Louise, although I didn't necessarily like everything she did, she earned her place in the pitlane.
I'm starting to contemplate starting a second blog about just things in general. Hmm...
Yay for blogging!
It's kinda been playing on my mind for a little while now, but it's only now I'm beginning to think about actually starting it.
Though knowing me, I'll start off well and then fall off after a bit. But then that must happen to a lot of bloggers sometimes :P
Can't hurt, can it? I'll subscribe.
Yay! :D Awesome
Wonder if I should give Wordpress a bash again for this one.
Guilty memories of my seccond blog... :?
And I think I have the title already. Inspired by my love of Jeremy Clarkson's books: "The World According to Woodwiss" :D
I MAY have to go and see this...
eeekkkk!! there is a HUGE spider on the stairs and my parents are asleep... i can't get upstairs to go to sleep :(
Ah, can't go wrong with Wordpress.
Jump?
I like what you did there :D
i'm not going anywhere near it... i'll drop.io a pic.. it's huge :(
Kill it with fire!
Blowtorch?
i hate spiders :(
i've had to run into the lounge with my laptop as it was coming down the stairs... i slammed the door though, so hopefully that may have woken mum...
Aww. I wish I could help. Am not scared of spiders at all. Just discovered Mr C is though. Learn something new every day.
have you seen arachnophobia?
Here she is! :)
http://woodwiss.wordpress.com/
He looks friendly :P,
I am a bit scared of them, but its nothing a good shoe couldnt fix if it is really bugging you
Nope. Add to my list?
:D
...Now you may be told to redecorate :P
Hehehe. GET A NEW THEME.
:D
Yes yes, I'll get onto it. Later, though.
i'm petrified of them, well.. mainly these massive ones, as they are so damn quick, and are just horrible and big. i should have guessed cause the farmer was harvesting or something today. i literally squealed just a second ago when i looked back at the stairs and i noticed it was nearly at the bottom. a bit like those angels in doctor who that move when you aren't looking.
i don't blame mr c for being scared of them.. they appear suddenly and move so quickly... mum has a similar thing with grasshoppers and snakes :) luckily we don't get too many snakes :P
i can't get close to them.. i just can't explain it.. i need a big fat book at the very least..
i'm guessing this may be a film i don't want to see? lol
I'm gonna sound stupid here. How do I install a new theme on Wordpress?
I always use the broom to squish or shoo away. it gives me at least 1.5 metres of reach. we mostly get huntsmen, although I had to kill a funnel web outside the front door a few weeks ago.
how far away were you when you took the photo?
i am never visiting you, you can visit us!
i was close enough... it was on full zoom and i was standing at the bottom of the stairs so a good distance..
On Wordpress.com, you're limited to the pre-installed themes, so if you go to the appearance section, you can choose which one you like the best.
Many of them have custom images though, so you can make it a little bit more your own.
i've just looked those spiders up... :( i'd never sleep if i knew they were just outside..
OK. I was wondering how to install a downloaded theme. But the whole FTP client thing has put me off. :)
You need a couple of Bearded wonders in your garden to keep order!
i can hear movement upstairs!
Maybe it didnt like the way you made it look in the photo and has called its friends?
To be honest, choosing a theme on the download option can be more trouble than its worth, there are so many to choose from, it can take hours to decide.
OK, look now. Changed it to the connections theme.
Pick me up from the airport? :-)
My sister and husband left for London last night so keep an eye out for them. He's a pilot with Qantas so I should set up a pub meet with Alex and Bassano.
My sister and HER husband....
wow! totally.
sure :)
Wonderful :)
I liked it because of the picture. The car travelling through the tunnel seemed to fit.
Right, I'm off now. I'm gonna be in the city tomorrow so I probably won't be around until late afternoon/early evening. Depends when I decide to come back from being "outside". Maybe I'll even have something to write for my new blog!
Morning all :P
mum came downstairs (at last) but there is now no sigh of the spider :( I ran up the stairs squealing.. Worst thing is I will probably see it agin tomorrow.
Night!
Night scott
I am sure the aqueeling helped, maybe you scared it away for good?
Silly iPod touch...
Poor 'skip to the' lou! At least you will be able to identify it in a line-up from the photo you have taken.
I'm off outside. Will check on you all later.
my experience tells me it is most likely to be at my bedroom door in the morning. They are like max mosley, they just never go away :)
see ya!
Well now you have given it a name, maybe you can be friends?
max the spider lol... Maybe it will be replaced by a better spider or animal... Called ari? ... Maybe it's time for me to get some sleep. Night allx
Nights
ahh last nights desert, for breakfast, at lunchtime. Perfect start to a Sunday.
I love it!
Although if you are awake, it might mean i should be asleep?
Probably :D
'
I blame the PS3, i definatly didnt wake up this morning thinking i needed to liberate mars...
Afternoon everyone. What's happening?
morning (or afternoon?)
Hello all
Is anyone still awake?
I am awake now...
welcome to Sunday!
You don't have much to look forward to.
Heikki watched his daddy race :) http://www.mtv3.fi/urheilu/f1/uutiset.shtml/arkistot/f1/2009/08/929150
*tries to find out where Jurva is*
eee! Multiple Kovalainens!
I have to go in the loft! And then I have to saw something.
Rar! Manly things. Perhaps I should barbecue something later to round the day off? ;)
last night I didn't bbq because "thats the mans job" but the men made the salad as well. Hooray for food with no effort!
Whoever's bbq-ing should make the salad too especially because one of my personal favourites is to add to the salad barbequed peppers and asparagus! Yum :)
Hello UK, along with Adam Rickett, would you also like Brian McFadden back? I know hes Irish, but close enough.
What is he doing over there?
He is mostly famous for being Delta Goodrem's boyfriend, but I just turned on my TV to find him as a judge on Australian Idol. He's being pretty mean to everyone considering he was in a boy band.
So he's the bloke that's going to be replacing the other guy who I can't accurately describe without being very un-SPC safe?
I do like that some newspaper guy summed it up with "McFadden is the obvious choice for the new judge, he doesn't have a career of his own to get in the way"
Re the donate buttons on playground. Great idea, personally I'm not so sure on the role of honour thing, that tends to suggest that some members of the community are worth more (for lack of a better expression) than others.
Just the knowing that you have helped is enough?
I agree Jackie!
I like the totalizer idea. And shoutouts work too in specific cases, like when they needed a fan and then they were able to buy a fan and thanked who it was who donated. But having a big list of people in the club and out of the club seems a bit cliquey. But maybe that's me?
I agree as well
I do like the idea of having the monthly totaliser thing and in a way it may encourage people to donate that little bit too.
I agree with this also. It might make people who visit for the first time think there's one of those exclusive clubs that lets you do more just by donating when really that's not the case. Surely the satisfaction of knowing you've helped SPC in some way because you wanted to is better than donating just to get onto the list.
What I guess many are not aware of is just how much it's personally costing Mr and Mrs C to give us our fix of sidepodgoodness so the fact that it's more open must also be a good thing
And also, some people donate their fantastic ideas that help strengthen the community but don't necessarily have the money to donate. We wouldn't want them to feel guilty that my friend "x" gave but I didn't
Exactly. :)
Off to make a bit of brekkie, back later :)
So does that mean the list of donations on the Sidepodradio page is a bad idea too?
No. Keep that. I think thats different. It's more specific. That's what I think anyway, and I haven't put any money there yet.
Wow. This is the second time we've been told we're being cliquey in almost as many days. Clearly we're doing something wrong.
I felt it was different too.
I don't think so... Quite the opposite. You said...
And people talked out how it might feel. I think the fact that the community doesn't want to do this kind of proves the point that it's not cliquey.
I think that's okay because it's for a specific reason and it's also for charity
But Sidepodcast is a charity too. I mean maybe not a registered charity but it basically is.
It's certainly a non-profit!
What another podcast did was that iyou could "sponsor" an episode, and, if you wanted to, you could have your name and/or a message (generally one of support for the show) read out on the show.
I think the point Alex was making was that this could be percieved as being cliquey, he wasn't suggesting that we are cliquey.
As was mentioned by Steven? the other day, if we do see any new members of the community we should actively engage in conversation with them.
That's it!
It kind of reminds me of the 'most comments' tally, people getting all "I love sidepodcast more because I have x more than you" although more money for you guys isn't necessarily a bad thing ;)
I get that, and Alex is right, the community always knows the best way to go. But these are the ideas that Mr C and I are coming up with and we need to sit back and think about why they are a little off.
I was thinking about that. At the time several commenters suggested that should be removed. Interestingly to Christine's point at the time it was being suggested Mr C was actually removing it!
You could have a small totaliser bar on the top of the doohickey/lclt that shows the monthly total, that way when you donate you see the total increase
Perhaps they aren't. We don't know nuffink really. And you two have created one of the most addictive sites on the internet so you do know a thing or two about it!
I hope you don't think that my comment was in any way criticism of your idea Christine, it was more of feedback of my own opinion.
Ha, the addictiveness has very little to do with us.
Thing is, we pretty much know all you need to know about podcasting, although we're always learning new and exciting things. I didn't realise the amazing community part would also require some learning too. The battles we've had recently show we've still got a way to go.
(This one is not a battle, btw, just made me think is all.)
Not at all. We asked for feedback and the response is excellent.
What about trying to get more interest for your shop, there must be a demand for branded goodies?
I'm off into the city. See y'alls later :)
Toodle pip, have fun
Good morning!
Morning all, is there a shop?
*waves*
We don't promote it because it is criminally neglected. We need to find a logo and stick to it first :)
With the donations thing I don't think a list of donors is necessary for all the reasons noted above, but I do like the monthly total idea. The only other thing I would like is the ability to choose how much to subscribe. I know there's a one off payment button but it would be good if you could choose your donation if it's not already shown & then not have to worry about updating it each month.
What's wrong with the grey and red kerbibg logo. I like that and its synonimous with SPC on the web, twitter, facebook etc
Yup, we could use that. Take a while to sort out all the designs and various sizes of pic you need, but I'll add it to Mr C's list.
Hi all. Just to add my thoughts
I also like the idea of a visible tally for the month.
Aside from the reasons mentioned above, some would maybe prefer their donations to remain anonymous too. I do agree that SPRadio is unique and a 'special cause'. The roll of honour there seems somehow appropriate.
Some podcasts use sponsored 'brought to you by' messages in a non-cringeworthy way, one or to of which can actually be quite funny. Simply Syndicated's "Make It So" is a good example
We would ask, of course. Anonymity is respected round here :)
managed to take the photo of F1 tram a while ago on the street
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/f1-tram-jpg
We know that it costs £60 a month to run (ish) well according to that donations page. So it would be cool to see if Sidepodcast was in the black or not.
It did say on the origional post "the option to be added to a"
That is very strange... I, of course, now want to ride on it!
I think almost all of the SPC followers understand the difference between covering costs and rolling commercials to fund a new yacht ;)
and live comment from it :D
Naturally!
I don't think I've ever seen a double-decker tram before
Although it may be nice to know if there's a particular piece of equipment you need & how close you are to buying it.
Absolutely... And we know that any extra, if such a thing existed, would be used to fund more SidePodTour adventures...
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/06/10/soon-we-can-buy-toro-rosso/
well, these trams have been on the streets of Hong Kong for years, but I never seen them painted with ad for F1 race :-)
Almost like a wedding list...
I am soon to write this year's version of that post.
*cough* New MacBook Pro *cough*
I've seen a lot of people do this recently where as before people would have a john lewis list and you'd have to search to find something you could afford people have been doing things were you say, "flights on honeymoon £1,000 - needs 100 x £10 gifts".
And there's a whole load of selections. I think people had been finding that they got lots of the small things and none of the big things, but the big things were the really hard things to buy for yourself.
You could also buy several at one go, and it showed you how many were left.
Can we have a life sized Blue Peter style Total-ometer too?
Like the buses in HK, they seem to be from the same dealer as London's finest :)
It gets back to the Britishness thing though and asking isn't somehow seen as cool. That's why I think I like the idea of a visual totaliser, a bit like the battery charge thing on the iPhone .. it's a reminder that it costs a fair bit to run the site without needing to ask
The more I think of this idea of a list of items you could buy a part of and then at the top of the doohicky it could mention a randomly selected item and how close you were to completing it (the random item could change every time you change thread).
Sounds like one for the list :)
I can hear it now:
Item 1 - Full Time developer for Sidepodcast
:)
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/spc-donations-totaliser-jpg
blimey it's almost noon and I'm still sitting here in my pj's. I really should get dressed and go for a walk in the real world.
It needs a better name than that though, one with an F1 theme. Suggestions?
Sidepoddonation theme song?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqeyIcri7HY
BRIAN! yes, pls send him back, but keep that adam guy.
someone tried to audition for Idol singing one of Brian's songs. Probably a bad move when the original artist is there to critique.
Woah! I didn't mr mcfadden had fans
I also didn't realise it. Must remember to put all these words into sentences.
Because Ireland's missing him?
understood, but i think there should be some kind of attribution, so if not a roll of honour, something else?
Also just to make a final word of caution on the totalizer front. There is a danger (and while it might seem slight at the moment this is a bit of future proofing) that people might see the total reached and think, "well there's no point in donating now then".
Could you say 10 people have donated this month or something like that maybe?
ooh, monthly totaliser sounds good. was thinking for specific purchases, but rolling could work well too.
sidepoddonations to buy this? it's for charity!
That would work, a thank-you that gives recognition and publicizes the fund raising thing
we can be more open. we have to buy a bunch of software updates soon, so that christine doesn't shoot herself. we can blog what it's costing and why we need as well as what improves as a result.
would that be of interest to anyone though? could be quit self-indulgent.
No, it's good to be open about the costs
i don't think we were going to mention donation amounts. just that someone has done so.
That is, yes it would be of interest :)
I reckon it'd be quite interesting to see a little insight on the financial aspect of things in the ways you're saying.
Personally, I would prefer to know that a donation is helping to develop something to enhance Sidepodcast than to have my name on a roll call.
can you both elaborate on why?
haha. we don't do a profit and loss sheet at the end of the year, ours is a loss and more loss :D
that i do like. brought to you by donator 'x'.
I think the difference was that in this case you needed to get to the total before it went ahead.
However there was also a feeling of... in my case... Hey I'm taking up far more time on the air than anyone else, I better cover my costs. And showing my name sort of justified that in my mind.
Is that in relation to Sidepod Radio?
Maybe as everyone was getting involved and it was also a one-off that was racking up a large cost for the day
And I donated for the complete opposite reason, I was buying my way out of having to make a show :D
I did the Tesco thing, "every little helps"
Seriously, the Make It So one is quite funny
I think it's Barger & Sons, for all your septic tank needs
Quite literally, a room full of poo
Excuse my language
problem is, cafepress aren't very efficient at delivery in the uk. i think alia had some problems. the whole thing needs an overhaul.
had forgotten we had one, but it's an ideal project for the playground.
ahh, yes. i see what can be done. cheers.
add it to the playground. lists are sooo last week.
One of the podcasts I listen to just says it was "brought to you by donations from listeners like you", then goes on to tell you how to donate. It reminds you that you can donate but doesn't highlight any one particular contributor.
will check that out shortly. ta.
If the current ones don't have it anymore, I'll dig out an older one and point you in the right direction
MOrning alll...
I havent donated to sidepodradio, not sure how i justify why not without seming evil...
But i already give money to charity every month, and if i give money to sidepodcast, i would rather it went to you guys if that makes sense, without making me seem too stingy.....
ummmmm............
Don't worry, I understand what you mean.
How long was the playground on 'the list' for? ;)
irish son is one of the best pop songs ever written. the end.
will do that then.
Thank you, although i still feel anti-charity :D
understood. it's easy to do and we're always looking at new things.
one problem we have at the moment is the micophone stands keep falling over and we need desk clamp attachments to fix them permanently but you can't get them in the uk and we'll have to import them.
stuff like that takes up whole days of our lives :)
ta sir.
I am heading off into "outside" for a bit, catch you all later. ttfn
a couple of people have emailed us and requested similar things. so i understand that too.
the charity thing may not have been thought through properly, especially as we haven't picked one. apparently that should happen first.
just invented it. it's like we're named the list :)
Nick, I understand what you mean. I decided not to give to Sidepodradio for exactly the same reasons so I added a note when I donated to let Christine know that my donation was specifically for Sidepodcosts & not Sidepodradio.
keep in touch constantly...
phew. mega comment catchup. sorry about that.
how's jon doing?
I went outside today and didn't keep in touch because I didn't charge my phone, but but but I managed to buy around-home-pants so my 'how do I go to the shop in PJs' problem has been solved. Now when I want comfy warmth I can put on these pants instead of PJs :D
I'm hoping you are using "pants" in the American rather than the British sense :-)
trousers then! ;)
Just checked, he's still in the pits, he sounds quite awake!
:D
yay. jon = awesome.
afternoon all.
Spider update - it was no where to be seen this morning, but about 10mins ago dad went into his wardrobe and found a huge spider, not sure if it's the same one, but it's one less in the house :D
Was it playing dress-ups?
There's an Eddie Izzard skit in there somewhere, I'm sure of it
Poor Max ;)
haha :D not a clue, i'm just pleased it wasn't in my wardrobe:D
It was probably making gravy in that case :)
Katherine has sent a man to mow,
a man to mow the garden,
and that man is me...
I will let you know how it goes, as it involves outside!
Obviously attempting to get some peace from those pesky cats, drilling behind the sofa
Well the theory is if bees make honey, do earwigs make chutney? Do spiders make gravy?
Some of Izzard's finest work
That and the Death Star Canteen
This tray is wet
I too am venturing out, a Sainsbury's dash, also hoping to find those nice car washing people in the car park
Jeff Vader
see ya Alex, and Bassano
The book is rubbish. Never saw her on TV but the whole book is a one-sided rant where she twists the facts to suit. Avoid!
Well it has already been ordered now!
it's terrible I read it too.
am debating buying another compact flash card for my Dslr camera. i already have a 4GB one, but i'll need more memory for my holiday, so the question is do i buy another 4GB card or an 8GB one?
It was only 3.75
I look forward to reading it!
I have a 16GB one, i love it... wasnt too pricey either
how fast a card do you need?
I have it too because I found it in a bookstore for $4. It's rubbish.
Well you have to blog about it as you read it now!
Any comment on what she says about the Australian GP?
How many megapixels and how many photos is that on your camera? A 4GB takes 800 on mine...
I can't even remember what she said, I just know I finished it and thought "wow she sounds bitter she lost her job"
Maybe I'll have to give it a re-read ;)
You're going to ruin the plot points!
i wont have chance to transfer any photos i take in spain to my laptop until i get home, so i need enough memory for 2 weeks.... and i know i'd be able to fill my 4GB card within a week...
sorry. didn't phrase the question correctly.
what card do you currently have? and is it fast enough?
my camera has 4GB of built in memory which is a lifesaver because I always leave my card in my card reader. It's not a DSLR though, thats still on my shopping list :D
Does your camera do SD HC ?
4GB = around 2,000 pics on my camera... so i was thinking another 4GB one, then mum mentioned why not getting an 8GB one just in case, so now i'm stuck. my camera has 6.1megapixels :)
Part of the back garden is now mowed phew!
2,000 pics in a week?
oh sorry. i have a 4GB compact flash card atm and it's speed has never been a problem :)
we.need.video.
TwoTone effect?
Sorry dude. I asked because she read the book and lives in Melbourne...
ok. what make/model is it.
cause you may have a really good one, and a cheap one may not be good enough.
yep... i ran out of space when i went to greece a few years ago. and that was for a week. thing is for this holiday this will be the only camera the 5 of us will have.
hehe, i was only joking.... :P
No worries then! You will blog as you read it though?
It doesnt realy fit in my blog... maybe i will just comment on it here?
Perhaps i need a reading blog. it might be tricky though, I am a bit of an erratic reader, I currently have 3 books on the go, and i finished one on thursday.
had to go find camera... tis made by Lexar Media and it says 80x WA USB... no idea what that means though :)
I just had another read of Chapter 1 - Melbourne, theres not really anything in there that isn't true.
wa = write acceleration.
so, yeah thats a fast card. if you're happy with it, you should stick with a similar brand. sandisk extreme cards are quite good too.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/gigglesmowswithspiders-mov
Katherine is afraid too... I will have to make them "go away".
where have they all come from? are they taking over? we reports people.
thank you! :)
tis the season in Britain. Always happens at the same time of the year.
stick with the brand you like and buy the biggest card you can afford. can't go wrong.
luckily you only have to sort them out once each tear in my experience.
eeek! :(
and you give me grief for living in Australia where I am yet to see a spider :P
Yeah but when you do, it's gets REALLY serious
Serious spider is serious?
I lie, I have seen lots, they were all at the museum (those ones will kill you), and a couple in the pet shop (those ones won't) :D
well. Everyone until I met you who I have ever met who has been to australia has died from spider death injuries - FACT!
;)
ah yes, I remember the great F1 incident of 1997, where the entire starting grid were all killed by red-backs.
Indeed, go for 8, 16 or greater if you can
No point in filling up another 4GB card so quickly
Giggles Made-Up Media is in effect ;)
I have been googling and apparently http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_funnel-web_spider is one of the more deadly in the country. Glad I don't live in Sydney ;)
This asset was deleted! Click here to return to your drop. :(
Friend of mine came face to face with a Huntsmen in Newcastle, NSW
Nearly walked right into it's web
Epic eek!
Am on it. Drop.io's video preparation is screwed up.
Is it using Mr C's MacBook Pro? :)
strange. Yes it seems to have gone.
Also. I uploaded two pictures of a wasp that stole my beer and they haven't finished processing. Odd!
Sydney Funnel Web is the most dangerous spider in the country I believe. I have lived in Sydney my whole life, and I have NEVER seen one, nor has anyone I know.
Maybe the wasp was too drunk to find his way
drop.io is broken. we may have broken it uploading yesterday's high def boating adventure.
we're trying to fix...
I was just reading about those, apparently they can't hurt humans and Australians don't kill them, rather they put them in the garden to eat the insects. Weird Australians, if I saw one I wouldn't kill it or put it in the garden, I would run away screaming. Those things have the creepiest eyes
I am starting to believe this "Australia has all the deadly animals" story is just a ruse to keep the tourists out.
who lived to tell the tale...
I think it's like Chuck Norris, by the time you see him - it's too late!
Huntsmen can't hurt you. Nobody I know would leave them alive though. They are scary looking. The vacuum cleaner is good to get them off the ceiling though. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a Huntsmen in ages.
Don't open your vacuum cleaner. They're probably breeding in there ;)
I am going to do some raking now. Get me and my exciting life. I do believe this makes me...
Kimi Rake-inan
Hello, everyone. :D Finally back!
And feeding on dried chocolate milk
Welcome back
Where were you?
:)
Hi Journeyer
or Rake-y Kovalainen?
but how do you get them out?...
hey!
Right, I'm off out again
This is starting to become a worrying habit
Thank the God of Mobiles for a compatible Doohickey
Vacationing - 3 days, 2 nights out of town, including a full-day treatment at a spa with m'lady. :D Watched college hoops before we went home too - her school beat mine - in overtime. Hehehe.
Even better
check in regularly, we worry you know.
Afternoon all. Had no sleep last night, or very little. Find my self woken up very early didn't help. But, how is everyone else?
have fun!
i'm good thanks, pleased i'm not living in Aus due to all this spider talk ;)
yes :)
We had 3 Bearded dragon lizards in my familys old house in queensland, they kept the spiders away, and generaly looked awesome...
They're behind you.......!
Am aware of something that does that. My only problem is that the show that does that that I listen to, it seems a bit sporadic when it does it. I mean it is a popular show as well. Just seems like its there one week and not there for a few weeks and back again. Dunno how it helps.
so what you are saying is i should buy some bearded dragons and let them keep the spiders out of my house?...
I dont think they would take too kindly to the English weather or living indoors, but they are very friendly and love sunbathing... :D
is that the film podcast? i recall listening, they did it well.
I'm talking about the sponsor the show thingy
ooh, ok. not that one then.
You could set it up on the wiki... saying which shows are sponsored, which shows are 50% sponsored e.t.c. You dont need to say who has sponsored it, just if it has been or not...
Interesting idea. How do you decide what an episode is worth, though?
Hello there RG. I thought you might be intered to know that Newcastle managed to beat Wellington. Just. 3-2.
Booooo
Thats for you guys to decide... :P
I would suggest just having the debrief's sponsored though, that way it keeps the available slots to a minimum
The podcast that I got the idea from didn't charge much. He said AU$10 per episode.
Yay.
ANZ netball leauge?
Heh, both Wellington AND Melbourne lost. ;)
Well, it involves balls and nets...
But not netball.
Even though they are the Wellington Phoenix they are pretty much our national team ;)
A-leauge? I have given up supporting football, but i think i will have to transfer my support from the roar to Gold Coast United
Melbourne won that :D
And they have more chance of doing well than your national team ;) Even if they are the worst team in the league...
I am still amazed that it is televised...
One game away from the world cup aren't they?
televised and then repeated! I watched one game all season. I used to follow the NZ league in about 2004 but since it became trans-tasman I stopped caring.
Technically it's two. But they are more likely to be two 6-0 defeats away from the World Cup. ;) They only topped Oceania because Australia left.
Depends how many times you mention Franck?
the lead commentator on the 2CV radio just called Glock - 'Glocky boy'
I know. But, Bahrain/Saudi Arabi aren't they giants they used to be.
NZs team will be good in about 15 years, a couple of years ago was the first time that more schoolboys were playing football than rugby so once they all grow up we'll have more talent to choose from :D
But all the kids play Football - just that when they get to college they play Rugby instead...
I think you guys should stick to rugby, you can be good at that as its only you an south africa who have it as a dominant national sport...
(and wales but thats a nation, not a country)
apparently the times, they are a'changing.
Just been sent a link to Graham Hill: Driven on Vimeo. It's a brilliant BBC doco and you MUST watch it!
I can't believe NZ kids are turning their back on rugby?
the whole country is.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/news/2724314/Rugbys-interest-rates-fall-sharply
But you guys have a whole TV channel... what will they do?
When they run out of replays they play "classic games" from 20 years ago :D
Old rugby is funny... the guys were so huuuuuuge :D
more to the point... what will walkabout show?
Well that must be because there's so much on TV and it's the same tournaments with the same teams EVERY BLOODY YEAR :(
Walkabout in NewZealand?
The ones over here seem to have virtually become all night clubs... which you can drink all day in. It is a dangerous combination, you can find yourself on a dancefloor wearing flip flops next to a girl with giant high heels...
crowds are at an all time low and Dunedin is spending ratepayers money on a new stadium that is something like 3x over budget. Don't get my dad started on that one ;)
hehe. they seem quiet during the day and mostly play rugby matches on the tv. in silence.
BTW my old Boss in NZ is now on the RWC 2011 team. Do you want to know how long the Sports Minister in NZ gave him to come up with a viable proposal for the new waterfront stadium? Two weeks. We got to see it before it went public and it's a damn shame it never happened :(
Australian themed bars? How awful! ;)
There was one in Nottingham where I went clubbing with my cousins. Think Crocodile Dundee as a Nightclub...
They are actually pretty good, they dont realy seem like any bars i went to in Australia... but it gives them an excuse to hire aussie bar staff, which reminds me of a photo i took at the ashes, 1 sec
Oh the horror. I would much rather a nighclub based around Harold Bishop and Alf Stewart.
Actually it was tacky but loads of fun. May have been the company I was with though...
I do like tacky. My favourite nightclub back home is a 70s bar with a disco-light floor and a cover charge if you are under 30 in an attempt to keep people my age out :D
Isn't that discrimination to do that?
Is it off-limits to discuss some info I found out about BMW's background and why it may have influenced the decision to leave F1 after certain statements from Bernie and Max...
Probably, another pub in town got in a lot of trouble for only charging people over 30!
The bar under my hostel in Brisbane demanded you show student id or a foreign passport before they let anyone in!
Locals: Not amused
By the way, my wife picked up a copy of Hello! Magazine whilst on holiday and it had that pic of Felipe in it...
This is the one
eh?
not the photo, but what i took the photo of, was pretty strong compared to what normally is allowed
heheh!
Good one!
I dont want to annoy the australians, its all in banter,
There was also this one and this one
I don't get the last one...
Lemon juice tuns your hair fairer if you wear it out in the sun...
Hello everyone
Does anyone know where i can get a fathers day card in the uk in the middle of august?
good afternooooon
Make one?
Heya bud.
Dont be silly, if i put that much effort in he will think i want to see him more often :P
Anything exciting happened today?
afternoon :)
Card shop? They probably have them in stock even if they are not on display
How did driving with mother go Lou?
I asked the other day in WHsmith and birthdays and they didnt...
I think i have found a way of doing it on the hallmark site, i should have thought of that...
i decided i'd rather get some more work done... :)
speaking of which, I thought of Lou today when I read about NZs plan to change their licensing system. I didn't realise in the UK drivers do an average of 45 hours of professional lessons before they sit their test. In NZ the average learner only gets 20 hours of lessons and not very many people get professional instruction as it is not compulsory.
if anyone is up for checking out some new stuff. we're experimenting with mobile live streaming on the g1.
have embedded qik live player into the factbyte factbox on the live commenting page:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/livecommenting/
it looks smoother than the live streaming from the park we tried earlier this year, and only requires a mobile phone to work. instead of a whole backpack worth of stuff.
we're popping out now to test it out. it's scarily easy to use.
will keep an eye on the comments and see if it's feasible to use for future meetups and events. more soon.
Chicken. It's good that you can get some practice with her but you need to be confident that it will be OK. It's a good idea to try another car as well as your instructor's. I know people who had only ever driven one car and their instructor changed cars a few days before their test.
Should we be scared it says live and dangerous?
RICHARD MARX IS GUILTY.
It's not compulsory here to have professional instruction either
:D
What did he do?
HE KILLED MARY
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2009/08/09/hazard-county/
i think it depends on the individual cause only a few of my friends have passed, it took one friend 2 months so about 20 hours, but then it took another one of my friends about 4 months so around 40 hours.
Do i go swimming or not today?
It is technically the day of rest....
he was set up.
I think it depends entirely who is assesing the test.
I did another 20 hours after i failed my first test and i dont think i leant anything. I did no more lessons after my second fail and got it third time with just 1 minor fault,
pffff who takes someone to the river then just leaves them there.
My friends have dumped their girlfriends in worse ways....
i'm feeling much more confident on the roads, and i think i'd probably only take mum down some country lanes and stuff anyways so they'd be pretty quiet, i just have way too much stuff to get done in a week... than and Dad wanted to come too, and that would have been a nightmare! :)
That could be true, the article I'm reading says
Concerns over the quality of New Zealand's driver testing were raised in 2006, when testing officers told media they had come under pressure from their employer, New Zealand Driver Licensing (NZDL), to pass three out of four drivers regardless of merit. NZDL and officials played down the concerns, saying the pass rate was a "guideline" that reassured drivers the tests were fair and consistent.
If thats true, thats a shocking way to assess things.
There is a reason you don't have your own detective show.
i agree :)
MRCIS
Way too early to have both parents in the car
I am trying to think if I have ever done this. I've probably picked them up at some stage when they've been out drinking.
tis way too early to have dad in the car. he isn't the most patient of people. lol :)
ok so a wikipedia later... this didnt realy happen its a completly fictional event?
be careful of mums too, the first time I had mine in the car was after I had passed my test, and she pulled on the handbrake while I was driving.
yeah mum would do that too... ah well it's got to happen some time. maybe not on the main roads though. when i go back to school though i'll have had longer in the car and will be alright to drive myself to and from school as practice with mum in the car.
Hang on... didn't he leave behind his scarf when he ran? I tend to agree with Mr C here. ;)
sheriff was a bad man.
I remember when i was desert driving a few years back, just after i got my licence, i ended up sliding down a dune sideways and almost rolling my dads range rover.
He just burst out laughing
I had made my decision years ago, before youtube meant I could see any video any time so when I saw the video, so it didn't sway me ;)
@ Mr C
My comment on the USB story on mediafuture chanfe is still there. It is also on the item Thom Yoorke hates CDs and on the one about the Sony e-book reader. I posted it once and it is now on 3 separated items
I think i am on your side. him taking photos from the bridge of them was mighty suspicious
:D
But he contradicts himself in the lyrics. Holes in his story. Guilty.
I have just dropioed a video of me blowing bubbles in the garden...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/img-1085
What isn't that how everyone else celebrates finishing mowing the lawn.
I am glad this typhoon missed us here this weekend:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7T36_S9mjs
But he is upset about it, its a painful subject, you can expect him not to get confused as emotion clouds his brain!
hehe, it will be now!
Hmmm. This is a tough one. I relied more on the video than the lyrics. Hehe. Nick kinda has a point, though.
lucikly my parents are divorced so this has never happened and i'nlm reasonably confident it never will!
That sounds like rubbish. My testing officer had to be convinced to pass me even though I did nothing wrong!
there is also the sherriff chasing her down in the cop car as she tries to run away... Video Evidence!
Oh. MY.
I saw an accident because of that!
that's what I said when I saw the video
Umm, It's not easy to explain this, as it's quite a sensitive subject, so I understand if this needs modding. But it's worth mentioning anyway...
We all know that BMW have pulled out of F1 because they were losing money and not winning, but I wonder how much Bernie's 'Hitler' interview was the straw that broke the camel's back?
This is because BMW were not exactly clean-cut in the way they operated during world war II, but to make things worse, I was reading a book on my holiday which talked about the major shareholders of BMW, the Quandt family. Turns out that the two half brothers, Herbert and Harald Quandt were responsible for saving the company after the war. Their father was Gunther Quandt, who had very close ties with the Nazi party and Harald's mum Magda divorced Gunther and remarried Joseph Goebbels.
Upon further investigation it seems that the Quandt family are very wealthy and powerful in Germany and tried to keep all of this hidden for years, until in 2007 ARD exposed all of this in a documentary.
I just wonder how influential all of this is, considering the timing of BMW's withdrawal announcement?
Dude! That's like... a whole building!
I recall one year they went to dad's work Christmas party, and I promised to pick them up, then promptly fell asleep. Because it was Christmas party season it was impossible to get a taxi so they walked home the 4km from the city at 3am. I am sad I fell asleep, after I got told off the next morning my mother told me it was "the most drunk your father has ever been." I'm sad I missed it.
Complete with foundation.
scary ...
Very interesting
Although i never really felt BMW had their heart fully in F1, I am surprised none of the big f1 news sources have drawn this parralell
wouldn't BMW have made a point have mentioning it during their withdrawal if they wanted to clearly distance themselves?
Not only would you have to do some sleuthing to get this one (which contemporary media seem to be averse to nowadays), this is a bit of a stretch. Unless they have more solid sources, connecting the two might just be dismissed as speculation at best.
I would have thought they wanted to keep cleer of it like the plauge
According to that article and others I have read about the Quandt Family, that's the last thing they'd want to mention...
I'm not saying it's the reason, just that I find the info interesting and I wonder how much of a factor it was in the end?
No they mentioned Max Mosley's alleged Nazi scandal when then wanted him removed last year.
Saw that on the news tonight. If you saw that in a film you would think it was a Hollywood exaggeration. Except it actually happened!
Interesting info, but I don't think it mattered that much in the end. Had BMW performed well, they'd have stayed in the sport. It was mostly about their performance.
I am going to bite the bullet and head to the pool.
Those K's are not going to swim themselves!
do one for me
That reminds me - I have to start running tomorrow as I stupidly signed up to do a 5km run next month :(
I saw that yesterday, when i got back, will try to do 2 extra today... :P
Well I said that performance was the main reason...
cool. Other people doing it for me is the only way I get any exercise ;)
Oops. :D
Seems odd that the Quandts didn't come clean when all the others did so that it would have less impact. It's not like there was a shortage of other companies with similar skeltons in their cupboard.
It is easy to imagine that Bernie's comments helped them arrive at their decision.
I would guess that the last thing they would do would be to mention it. If the family have historians carrying out an investigation into their past I would guess they wiill make no comment till the report is published and some good stuff can be used to mitigate against the bad.
I hate fantasy football! Gah! Why do you have to pick the donkeys just so you have good players?
And his parents being married in a house belonging to Goebbels whose wife used to be married to one of the Quandts. Quite incredible
right so my point is why mention that but not this. That makes me think it can't be connected.
Because you can't say "We're pulling out of F1 because Bernie made some naughty remarks" can you? It doesn't sound good...
Instead you say "F1 doesn't fit our image any more and we need to be where the innovation is".
ooo the video in my factbyte factbox is suddenly working.. i haven't got any sound though, that could be my computer..
Rushed over to LCLT - video and audio. :D
that will be my laptop being annoying then :)
Coooool!
Very odd. My doohickey was asleep but the video was working and was on top of the panda
It IS just one video though, right?
I can hear children. Is Mr C the Pied Piper?
LCLT, you mean? It's always been like that: that happens when I watch the live Debrief from bed.
:D
LCLT
It appears to be a live stream but I am b-b-b-b-b-b-b-....
Is this like the Sidepodwitch project?
its very Blair Witch, I'm scared.
I can't believe Christine just did the Richard Marx blog item and is now in the woods with an anonymous man with a video camera
I think they are b-b-b-b-b-b it is coming over the 3G network after all!
I am getting loads of buffering
He has just mentioned Bair Witch!
nice to know we are all on the same track with the blair witch thing :D
Mr C has wet feet now!
Especially with the random scream at the end!
this is definitely not live now, I've seen this bit before :(
Yup. Twas wondering what you were getting that I wasn't. No buffering for me, though.
We're a bit confused on the liveness but this is great fun.
pleased to see you are still alive.
Ahhh. NOW it's live. :D And b-b-b-buffering. :(
i have sunglasses envy...
They are quite cool aren't they?
they are very cool.
The video quality is really good
very strange there seems to be an iPhone version of qik but not available in the uk?
Mr C you went in the dark woods in flip flops? Surely you would be first to die if this was a horror movie?
looks like once it's streamed live it can then be immediately replayed?
i'm confused i just got some video of them running somewhere and then it's stopped again..
I heard helicopter and saw running.
Put two and two together....
if you click on the 'qik' it brings up a playlist of all the previous videos.
I think they are making a film. Once everything is edited together it will make sense
Treasure hunt. Sort of?
:)
I think I have found the essential problem. When you want to comment Mr C has to stop filming!
is it just me or does the running video have non-english audio? :D
ahh :D
oh its just me, i had another window open. oops hahaha.
Haha! And on that bombshell, I'm off to bed. Enjoy testing the FBFB. Night. :D
We need a second phone.
night Journeyer!
Night sir.
Night Journeyer
I need qik :(
didn't mr c want an iphone at while ago?
Together we'd be awesome.
my phone is supported! wow!
yes!
Is the swirly thing the new
'This is a wirecast demonstration'
btw, your like 5 mins behind. Or ahead, something.
You are live, but b.b.b..b.b.b....
Even more than before
probably cause they are in the car?
If I jailbroke my phone I could install it... Hmmm...
I just downloaded the qik software and will probably never use it, but it might come in handy one day
ooooh that was easy. I just made a video of a never ending loop of my video :D
I wouldn't risk it, Alex.
Oh yes, I'm back :)
Well I may, or may not, or may, have a jailbroken iPhone Gen 1 already.
But that isn't 3G and so that's a bit of a problem.
Oh and it doesn't have a sim card!
I fear with this software on my phone I will become the new Alex and start filming everything I do.
Me too. Oh ;)
so it's like an ipod touch with a camera?
Yes.
awesome! :D
I would pile all the cars on top of each other and climb up them and then stand at the top and make a video for sidepodcast?
oh noes!! i just opened itunes and for some reason all of my podcasts are under music and not podcasts... this is not good :(
I'm going mad with question marks today. Earlier after a clear question I didn't include one. Then in that last comment I included one when it wasn't a question. I must be getting Mr Citis!
What?
i'm very confused...the podcasts section of my itunes is empty... some (i'm not sure if all of them) are now in my music section.... help!
looks like most of my podcast files have disappeared...about 20 are in my music section... but the others are just not there... my applications aren't there either. if i sync my ipod to itunes will it erase them from my ipod or put them back onto itunes?
this isn't good.... Can you find you music folder on your computer. Are your prodcasts in the Music\Podcasts folder still?
Don't sync for a mo... lets work out the problem...
yep they appear to all be in the podcasts folder... just suddenly not in itunes :s
Sync on iTunes is pretty much one way... Only notes and a few other things come back from the phone. Things you've downloaded, including applications do but not if you have previously synced.
OH STUPID NEIGHBOUR SORT OUT YOUR DAMN CAR ALARM THAT KEEPS GOING OFF! :(
i see.
YAY! My driving licence application and picture have been signed for me by my uncle Richard, who's a qualified ADI driving instructor. Now I just have to sign the declaration and I can send it off :D
Right it sounds like you might need to do a repair of your itunes index...
Do you have any kind of backup software Lou?
backup software? i've got a copy of all the files from itunes/ my computer on my external hard drive... that's as far as my backups seem to go (other than my music being on CDs)
Ah okay... When did you last make a backup?
Basically... There are two sets of files that are important here...
1) The music and actual podcasts - these look to be fine
2) The files that iTunes makes to create a map of where all of these files are - this looks to have become broken
So all the podcasts are still there in the folders. We just need to get a good previous version of the index. There may be a few problems of anything updated (podcasts etc) since the last backup though.
Even without a backup we can re-create the index from scratch. However you may, that way, lose things like playlists you have created, the record of how many times you've played the tracks and any ratings you have.
about a month ago i think.
oh okay.
playlists and those things don't matter to me, i don't used them much.
okay... so where can i find out how to repair the index or whatever?
bev turner. did itv coverage for a bit. went to all the fancy parties and then write a book saying f1 is a bit sexist. {Comment #10}
The book was called "The Pits" and I've read the paperback version. It didn't just say F1 was sexist, it seemed to say (through detailed if somewhat anecdotal examples) that it lacked any sort of ethics beyond the almighty dollar whatsoever (football, for example, got favourable comparisons). She claimed the press was maltreated, fans got a raw deal and that there was a lot of back-stabbing in the paddock. The press picked up on the sexism allegation because that was one of the few bits of the book that wasn't widely known in the paddock (though from the evidence in the book, it probably wasn't as big a problem as Beverley suggested).
Right... Well then you have to make a decision as to if you think it would be better to just start from scratch and create a new index or if you would like to try and preserve the playlists (knowing that you would set the index back by a month in content terms)?
Which is why I heart Louise. Because even though her and DC made me retch on several occasions, she garnered great respect in the paddock. {Comment #16}
Louise, by the way, also wrote a book about F1 (considerably more respectful than Beverley's) back in 2000. It was an interesting read at the time, but I've forgotten the title.
The most sensational part, in my opinion, was that it basically argued that Formula 1 drivers weren't really sportsmen. Except Mark Webber who was only a sportsman because he was interested in other sports. I may be mis-remembering this part.
No, you have that right. Considering the fitness level of these guys, it sounds like complete poppycock to me!
Im back... Its getting easier every time, but its still a long way...
Congratrs Amy, you have swum 50m :P
It's complete rubbish. Steven may well come along and prove me wrong. But from my understanding they have more G exerted on them than Spacemen! And for longer periods.
if i start from scratch does that mean having to upload all of my music back onto itunes? or can i simply try and upload the podcast files back into itunes?
Lou... Look at this...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
It's nothing to do with reloading the music or the podcasts. It's just getting iTunes to realise that the files are actually there.
thank you :)
hi all. we made it back. anything happen in our absence?
I feel fitter already!
No probs! Good luck! When it says drag stuff to the trash don't empty the trash until you're sure you're safe!
Lou has had an itunes disaster :( I'm trying to help!
And I'm considering jailbreaking my phone!
But of course i'd still have problems because I couldn't see comments while filming!
:D
ummm, why isn't there an app for qik?
i'm not sure i like itunes as much as i did this morning...
Does that work?
Does it mean you can download everything from the app store for free or you can just use it on other networks?
okay.
yeah. it's not practical. even with x2 phones, holding them would be an issue.
an interesting experiment. and would've worked great in the park where you can the comments and we had the camera.
It's another one of the allegeded network blocked applications grr!
I missed the live adventure, are they gone for ever or is their a replay feature?
Duct tape saves the day again! :P
that's utter tosh!
Well you say that... With 2 iphones it could work...
You can get the iphone to read web pages to you I thought... So you would need one on open talkback :)
In what way?
I don't know if that is the case or not but it sounds reasonable. Astronauts really only have G pushing them into their seats and don't have it acting on their necks. They also don't really have to function to any degree while suffering hig G force
we didn't block the t-mobile network today.
my ideal solution would be to have a camera mounted somewhere, maybe on my hat, and have it stream live. then read comments on the phone. i don't really need fullscreen video to see what's being recorded. picture-in-picture would be fine.
i am never visiting you, you can visit us! {Comment #55}
If you visit me, I recommend you don't enter my bedroom. Apart from the huge mess created by having more books and magazines than shelf space, there's also a spider colony behind the wardrobe (which I happen to quite like). Mum makes sure the spiders are not welcome in any other room of the house though.
Yeah... Well regardless of who is blocking it, Apple or AT&T are.
Allegedly AT&T are completely at capacity already. And the iPhone has completely degraded their service. They have done large scale upgrade programs, but the iPhone sales have outstripped the progress.
That sounds better...
Molly Wood regularly rants about how bad the AT&T service is with her iPhone...
that sounds awesome! although if you looked down at your phone you'd just be live streaming the comments :D
how come t-mobile aren't suffering? maybe apple didn't do proper due-diligence before selecting a network partner?
thing is, if we made an app like that (which is possible), apple wouldn't approve it :(
Android is an open platform though, there are already handsets on other networks, google wont listen to just one of them
Do google have to approve android aps?
What's the best way to record a video on a MacBook using the camera?
i think so. they're harder to program for though. an alex doesn't own one.
photobooth. or try downloading something like camtwist?
what are you thinking?
btw, thanks to RG, we discovered christine's in-car clock is 4 minutes slow.
good times!
RG, correcting one clock at a time.
:D
Everyone on TWiT complains about AT&T
It needs a better name than that though, one with an F1 theme. Suggestions? {Comment #164}
Sidepodfueltank?
Here's the phone reading out sidepodcast:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/movie-1-mov
Put away your iphones, these could be The best invention ever!
Very cool, the video got a bit messed up for me on VLC, but i got all the audio
oooh, me likes.
Also just to make a final word of caution on the totalizer front. There is a danger (and while it might seem slight at the moment this is a bit of future proofing) that people might see the total reached and think, “well there’s no point in donating now then”. {Comment #172}
This is where the wish list can be combined with the totaliser idea. NaNoWriMo has a great one. As well as the total, it shows a selection of books in increasing sizes. If you put your mouse over each one, it shows what will be done if that amount of money is donated. These range from the first one, for stuff that's essential to the site's continued functioning ("Staff work in a building with electricity, running water and an internet connection") to the last one that has the developers' wildest dreams listed ("New, expanded curricula and teaching materials, site guaranteed open until end of 2009*")
As each target is hit, the next book lights up, so it's easy to see what has already been achieved and what can be done next.
Every so often, as wishes are met, you can simply change the wording of the totaliser to show your new wishes (you're bound to think of something).
* - note that this totaliser went up in autumn 2008, so having everything paid for one year in the previous year would have been spectacular.
It's a surprisingly good automatic voice!
test
IT WORKED!!! all my podcasts are now safely back in itunes!! Thank you so much Alex!!
problem is, cafepress aren’t very efficient at delivery in the uk. i think alia had some problems. {Comment #191}
I did, though it has to be said Sidepodcast have already got further than Cafépress (because in my case the problem was that the company refused to process money). I'm still trying to get my enthusiasm back for the logoed clothing project (because that's the third organisation I've had problems with which does online custom T-shirt sales).
There is a feature that would work. You do a two finger down scroll and it just starts reading down the page. Then if you want it to go back to the top (because of a new comment or whatever) you just do a two finger scroll up and it starts again. The only annoying thing is that it has to read Sidepodcast: Current Discussion, the filter box, connected box, your deails, selected thread etc... If that could be removed this could really work in an incredibly distracting way :)
Point being that this feature works on my old phone because it's a software upgrade...
Thank goodness :)
Phew!
Do spiders make gravy? {Comment #226}
Thankfully not (else my bedroom would have been lost in brown goop by now). They do make silk though...
why am i up? oops. night all.
Dont silkworms make silk?
Night, have a good monday!
Night Amy
Looks like I picked the right week to visit Mallorca...
night Amy
I've got the RaceDepartment Touring Car Championship test race coming up later on this eveing. Me and my Volvo face 30 punishing laps of racing.
one of the people i was out with this week flew there on friday :(
I flew out the day after the first lot of bombs and came back yesterday!
Anyone watching the Nasca race at watkins glen this evening?
Oooh thanks for reminding me!
If ETA are acting up, i wonder if this could have any implications on the GP at Valencia?
Louis Theroux is also on tv tonight! no nonchalant, yet so passively judgemental
i hear ya.
the other problem that there is no simple solution too, is the farther away you go from civilisation the worse the 3g coverage gets. to the point it's unusable. however, you can record offline and post when the signal returns.
Whats his subject?
I really really like Louis - have to say.
Crystal Meth
Any comment on what she says about the Australian GP? {Comment #241}
Quite a lot, and a surprisingly large amount of the stuff in the "Australia" chapter actually relates to the life and times of the track. The same cannot be said for several of the subsequent chapters.
I really liked the prison one he did, but all his shows are usually excellent watching. The Baptist Church one was pretty horrible to watch though.
Who is this guy?
He does odd fly-on-the -wall documentaries
Evening folks
Evening ;)
He looks into various different things and just finds out about them, like gang crime in America where he was going in ghettos in the worst areas interviewing people and looking at how the police deal with it all, state prisons and the prisoners within them, their attitudes and the likes, the mindset of an addicted las vegas gambler and how they deal with things concerning their casino lives, and the most disturbing one for me was delving into the Westboro Baptist Church who are the most horrible people I've ever seen on tv tbh. Just nasty, bigoted horrible individuals.
His shows make for a quite fascinating watch though.
He does all sorts of documentry's where he imerses himself in the subject for a few weeks, living with a group, or following police on patrol for example.
Lately his subjects have gotten a bit more contraversial
By the way, my wife picked up a copy of Hello! Magazine whilst on holiday and it had that pic of Felipe in it… {Comment #366}
How, exactly, does that story even fit in Hello!'s usual editorial line, let alone that picture?
i think it depends on the individual cause only a few of my friends have passed, it took one friend 2 months so about 20 hours, but then it took another one of my friends about 4 months so around 40 hours. {Comment #397}
My brother needed two years of lessons (about 100 hours of lessons total because he could only get one hour a week) and I've been told to expect it to take longer than that for me to learn. Learning how to drive is really expensive :(
I'm not entirely sure, but it's half a page in some kind of section on world events. There's a picture of him being lifted out the car and a picture of the car itself. Underneath the text reads:
Do i go swimming or not today?
It is technically the day of rest…. {Comment #398}
If you still haven't made your mind up, don't go swimming because the pool probably shut at around 3pm to make room for children's parties...
Its raining at watkins glen
I went did my 40 lenghts, i think kids are not allowed in at weekends...
But they also have 3 lanes available for lane swimming at all times
Apparently Sprint cup cars have 'too much power' to put the rain tyres on
That sounds like rubbish. My testing officer had to be convinced to pass me even though I did nothing wrong! {Comment #429}
The UK has an upper limit as to how many drivers an instructor can pass a month, if I remember correctly. I can't remember whether it's an absolute or proportional one.
I can imagine they have too much weight but not too much power
Apparently they ran a nationwide race on them in montreal last year, and it went ok.
But apparently their hasnt been sufficient testing of rain tyres on current cars
No it didnt! they showed a clip of a guy driving with 1 arm out the window cleaning his windscreen with a windscreen cleaning brush!
My first post on my new blog :)

JON! JON JON JON JON JON! Friggin...JON?! :D
yay!!!!
OOps wrong thread, sorry!
JON!
you were awesome! well done! did you have a good time?
Sorry, bit of a Lee Evans moment there :D
Did you enjoy it?
Yes sir?
Is there going to be a race? It always seems to rain at the Glen!
Seconded. Better than some of the commentators sir!
Loved the corrections you did. Best guy there, specially during the first stint.
Oh, welcome back my good man.
Skysports think so, they havent gone to the IRL. I guess they might have to wait for the track to dry?
More than you will ever know, it was AWESOME and i may doing other similar things in the future...watch this space...
It was better than any other race i've ever been too because it had a real story behind it, and everyone clubbed in together. Andddd, the top 5 were seperated by something like 2-3 laps by the end of the race, how often does that happen!!
I have however, only had about 4 hours sleep in the last 24 hours and so am running on empty a bit.
Also, i learnt a life lesson....there are a group of people who sleep less than Amy....they are called the Dutch 2CV team...
The corrections?
Told ya Kars was a legend.
They totally were, they hung over the pitwall gesturing at their driver....on every lap....for 400 laps...
Thats great, watch out ted kravitz!
Thanks for the tweets guys, i did read them :) but my co-commentator was a bit of a technophobe and so pretty much ignored all the email/twitter stuffs. We read a few emails during the 5.5 hour fog break (darn fog), if anyone listened through that fog break, then you are a better person than i am. It was the biggest fill i've ever had to do ever. 4 hours of nothing happening = lets find the cheesiest songs we can play :D
Fog break... LOL!
I listened to it from the start till about 11. Then listened again last 15 mins.
awesome :D i enjoyed listening to it, you did such a great job.
we got that impression :)
has it ever been that long before?
It's never happened during the Snett 2CV race before, i've only ever known it to effect one race which was the Silverstone 24 hours a few years back. You literally couldnt see 10 feet in front of you
it's never been like that, ever
I'll bet a few teams didn't mind a fog break to fix up their cars though?
they were talking at one point that the safety car could be used, wasn't expecting a complete stop though.
I think the late night stuff, 9-11 was the some of the best bits
if only, the cars came round onto the grid and were stopped, the cars werent allowed to be touched or worked on until 8.55 this morning, over 5.5 hours later.
They stopped the Britcar 24 Hours in the middle of the night because of fog. That was the year TG did it in the diesel BMW.
It was alright for a bit, but 10 mins into my 3-7 shift the fog just got 10 times worse, they had to bring the safety car out, you couldnt see between the marshalls posts and thats when it can get dangerous
That's pretty fair then. Can't imagine anything worse than fog in the dark!
Yeah, it was exactly like that, except sooo much longer
Hmm I don't remember that...
So does the clock get stopped during the break or does it just carry on?
The worse bit was one team came in with a brake failure problem, but weren't allowed to work on it at all!!
Watch that episode of TG and you'll see.
I don't think they showed the race being stopped.
I've seen that episode but I just forgot that bit...
They did!
It carrys on, so on the timing screens it just shows the cars as doing a 5 hour lap. The funniest bit was that the time the cars stopped still counted for each drivers stint, so one guy had just got out hte pits when the safety car came out to stop the field, he'd done one lap, and because he would start again 5 hours later, that's over teh 3 hours max time allowed per driver, so he couldnt race again until someone else had!!!
That was meant for RG's comment.
I believe you!
May was in the car, about 2-3am i believe
Never mind, that wasn't for your comment. :P
I really don't remember that bit.
It was a very brief moment on the tv
jon, you are legend, sir. an absolute legend.
would you do it again next year?
why thank you :)
oh and
they will have to find some way of keeping me away, it was seriously the most epic thing i've ever been envolved with
:)
the hardest bit was actually at the end of each stint, because i needed to sleep but the story of the race developing was just amazing.
oooh and i got to chat to Ed Straw, really nice guy
What did you get to do in between stints? Sleep or talk or whatnot?
ah cool. i liked that he started off by tweeting loads, and then it sort of tailed off.....
My first one started at 7, till 11, so slept from 11.45ish (i had to convince myself that sleep was a good idea, my body wasnt convinced at that time of night), till 2.45am, 3-7am was next shift, however that was the easiest shift as i was in the box the whole time just que-ing up music and jingles with the occational burst of "nothings changed - more music", then woke up at 8.30 to hear the tannoy say "Race Restart in 5 minutes", and then have been up since then.
So not much different sleep pattern to me last night. :)
oooh yey, Christine watched Uncle Buck :D
the hardest bit is sleeping in a tent with 37 race engines going round you, i had to sleep with ear defenders on because the noise was too loud to sleep with, and i was as far from the track as i could be
am finding difficult to recall friday evening. but i think she did.
i don't understand why they have to switch off the tannoy, when the cars are still running and louder anyways?
*multiple coughing*
haha yeah, i never got that either, it made very little sense, although given the fog break, it was very nice to have, because it meant we all actually got some sleep
Wait, wasn't it Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Or did I miss something here?
:)
that came afterwards.
Has someone not been reading Mrs C's blog?
ahh, interesting. fair point.
Am I in trouble if I say no? *hides*
Am I not in trouble if I say I have caught up after my holiday? ;)
but you are right, it was planned to go off anyway, and goes off each year at the same point, the most interesting thing was one of the teams who i called RBR, first word being Rent, because we were allowed to say their full name over the tannoy, but were over the radio
Watch the very end of this clip of TG's 24 hour race and you'll see when it was stopped because of the fog.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw5nTI5bRQA
Eh? Why were you not allowed to say the name?
that makes zero sense at all!
I'm watching something else right now...
I think he meant to say not over the radio.
If you followed live timing
Well you say that… With 2 iphones it could work…
You can get the iphone to read web pages to you I thought… So you would need one on open talkback {Comment #573}
This is where I like the iPaq's ability to multi-task. I could turn the video mode on, load up a browser* and live comment while the video was recording...
* - Back when my PDA talked to the internet!
i have no idea what the reason was, but we were just informed that we shouldnt say it, however when the tannoy gets switched off everyone switches their radios on, and the tannoy goes off at 6.30, so its not like kids are in bed or anything
The Lucky Jon team, anything to do with you there? :D
haha, everytime the team was read out, i'd hear "Jon" and switch my mic on, then turn it off when i realised :D
oh and i want to enter a team called "The Unlucky Jon"
Bit weird - can't see anything wrong with the name?
Every time i watch it i get annoyed because May's HANS device isn't under his belts...its over it...making that £500+ wasted
It's a weird phenomenon that's on the F1 timing data too - lap 1 of the race often takes about 15 minutes and the first lap of each qualifying stints are are also about that length too...
Oooh, Louis Theroux is on now...
Dont silkworms make silk? {Comment #608}
Spiders make a form of silk for their cobwebs. They simply don't make enough of it to be worth harvesting (you'd need the entire capacity of several hundred to make a garment). Silkworms make enough silk for it to be worth the bother of harvesting for human usage.
aha, you are a fountain of knowledge... :D
If ETA are acting up, i wonder if this could have any implications on the GP at Valencia? {Comment #618}
If the Spanish government issues warnings about ETA carrying out operations in tourist areas of the mainland, possibly. However, Bernie has stuck two fingers up to terrorists before and I imagine he will do so again - unless Spain decides to ban all incoming travellers or there's a direct threat to the race.
Evening all. Hope you are all enjoying the weekend. We've still not got a name for the new small person.
Does this mean LPG has had said small person now?
I went did my 40 lenghts, i think kids are not allowed in at weekends… {Comment #636}
That helps :D
When did that happen? Congrats Mr!
So they want us to get fit, but they don't allow us to get fit?
One of my favourite bits of the weekend was 5 minutes before the end of the race there was 4 announcements all stating that "Children under 16 are not allowed in the pitlane when the race finishes" which after the 4th time i just wanted to shout "I KNOW!!! THERE ARE MASSIVE SIGNS TELLING US!!"
silly people ;)
Yes. Pictures on Drop.io
Thursday night just before midnight.
More than you will ever know, it was AWESOME and i may doing other similar things in the future…watch this space…
It was better than any other race i’ve ever been too because it had a real story behind it, and everyone clubbed in together. Andddd, the top 5 were seperated by something like 2-3 laps by the end of the race, how often does that happen!! {Comment #656}
Glad you had a great time, Jon :) Welcome back!
Let me guess, no children on the race track during/after the race either?
It was a real shame because there were loads of kids from the different familys who were racing, they were confined to riding their bikes around the back of the pits
Evening :) 'new small person' is a cool name :P How about Josh? That's a nice name... :)
!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Mr!!!!
Josh is one of my names i'm going to call my kids, its uber awesome
I've always liked Luca. Just a pity it ain't really English.
Its a private club though... I guess that allows them to make the rules...
One of the reason i chose it was because the lanes seemed to be pretty empty during the day
Thanks. :D
Great name: 'Gravity'
aha, you are a fountain of knowledge… {Comment #728}
Thank you, Nick *blush*
How about Alex? After Mr Giggle's himself ;)
This is assuming it is a boy...
It has a certain weight to it, but no. We've already rejected everything SPC has come up with so far. Unfortunately our shortlist (very short) names don't seem to suit this little boy, so we're a bit stuck.
Didn't matter to James Allen!
Just call it Junior!
What about Damon?
Ooooooh, or Andy Jr
you can't say we didn't try :(
Ah,is there a time limit you have to decide by?
I have always like Cuba as a name, or something like Oscar, but your right, it has to fit the little guy!
Were any Viking names suggested?
Hi all,
I was out and about yesterday and heard a mother call her boy away from the road. "CYPRESS!" Not that I'm suggesting it. Just recounting a story. :)
Great name: ‘Gravity’ {Comment #746}
?!?
i've compiled the names i think you should consider here
hey Nikki!
Louis could make an interesting post race driver interviewer in F1...
Hi Lou.
You could also check out this list released by Alberta every year.
The awkward silences between questions would be interesting :P
Ah yes, especially these few
Ah,is there a time limit you have to decide by? {Comment #754}
I believe there is a legal time limit, at least in the UK (last I heard the limit was 42 days, but that was out of a book my parents got to help them name my older brother, so the limit may have changed since).
:)
so we’re a bit stuck. {Comment #749}
Do any particular qualities spring to mind when you look at your baby? Perhaps looking up names that mean those qualities will yield some possible candidates.
Watkins Glen has been postponed
Cheers for that. Until tomorrow then?
Evenin' all
evening :)
Yeah, noon start, so 5pm UK? 6 EU?
Hi Lou. I've been away for over 24 hours, it feels weird.
Top of the evening to you to!
Hi Pat!
And it is a pretty good evening :-)
Hey
Yes, we were watching them talk about Nascar for two hours rather than actually race. Can't help but think "wimpy, wimpy, wimpy" that they don't race in a little rain.
Aha, JON's back! How was the race?
Currently running 4th in the test race, just stopping for fuel and tyres.
You have to register the birth within 6 weeks, but you have up to one year to amend the registration. I think this is to stop panicking fathers from putting down the first thing they think of (e.g. No Smoking Johnson) and then having to go home and explain what they have done.
indeed i am, twas flippin' awesome
Last time they raced in the rain was the Nationwide in Montreal last year I think. It was an absolute farce - the tyres were out-of-date (as in the rubber had expired and hardened) and the "wipers" did not work - some drivers resorted to using hand squeegees!
Excellent. We agreed you were the most useful one there.
aww :) i shall have to read back :)
So yeah, I never made it in here last night. Batman Begins was too good!
Wow. That must have been fun to watch. Or not. Maybe the wipers are painted on like the headlights ... ?
The wipers were these tiny little things that kept lifting off the windscreens. It was an absolute farce!
Possibly the best name for a bus company ever!
(Warning, the name may offend, but it is for real!)
Had to go look on YouTube and found this. HAHAHAHAHA! Is that a Swiffer?
Thaaaaats the one!
I just read through today's and yesterday's dailys....
Thank y'all for your lovely comments :) i loved it :D
However, lack of sleep means i've put off the inevitable for long enough.
Night all
Night Jon ;)
Its brilliant, ESPN showed it during their coverage. I kinda wish we had such silly moments in F1
See ya Tuesday :)
Night
It's funny because it's true :D
Night
TedJon!:D
Glad you enjoyed it. Night
Mr C is second in the SofaF1 championship. http://www.sofaf1.com/2009/08/sofaf1-championship-2009-round-10.html
Harumph. Stupid game anyway.
w00t! Came 3rd in the test race! :D
And that was after 2 drive throughs, the 2nd of which was messed up and made me pit again, only to find the first time had been right. Dropped to 6th but put on new tyres and managed to get back to 3rd on lap 28 of 30 :D
don't worry christine, your just one point behind me, and i'm not even sure i'll have internet access before quali of Valencia so you have time to overtake me at least :P
[F1 toiletries etc]
I paid £4 and got a mug, a keyring and a deodorant. I only wanted the mug (because I already have the keyring) and still thought it was a bargain!
Where can I find these F1 toiletries again? Tesco, wasn't it?
actually... sily question, but how is Mr C so good at the Sofa f1 championship, and not fantasy racers?...
Yes, as well as polo and t-shirts. That said, the £4 deal was in SportsDirect / SportsWorld
yee'ouch!
I already have an official F1 t-shirt with the blended graphic of an F1 car. I can actually make out that it's a Renault R28. Don't know how but I can!
I hate that film. Watched it as a kid. Scarred me for life.
it kinda came out wrong... i meant it in a nice way...
Shall have to have a look next time I'm in the city. :P
I think we do. I still love the shot of Kimi retiring from the Monaco GP a few years ago and walking to his yacht to get a beer. I'm sure there are others but I can't think of any ... perhaps proving your point.
There's that other shot of him just in his shorts on his yacht chilling out looking his usual self. :P
While the race was still going, mind. :P
hehe. i honestly don't know why.
yes, that's the one. Kind of like the ice cream in the rain at Malaysia. Hey, maybe it's just always Kimi.
Luck? I mean it, prediction league I do (that I remember) I finished 3rd last year. This year I'm about 18th because everything has been shaken up and it is very, very hard to predict.
Also my stubborness at the start of the season that Brawn were quick.
good afternoon/night/morning everyone
:) hi there.
Plug plug plug :P
http://woodwiss.wordpress.com/2009/08/09/my-problem-with-ignorance/
Just something I whipped up on my new general blog.
I missed an interesting discussion earlier, will try to summarise a few thoughts here, apologies if too long.
[Alex said..]
I don't think it is cliquey. That said, if the same names were on the list each month it could make others feel a bit guilty for not contributing enough, and indeed the donors might even feel guilty for appearing so often. And there may be those who wish to remain anonymous.
But as Alex says, if someone makes a contribution that is the difference between Something Happening and something Not Happening (even keeping cool), give 'em a shout out, absolutely.
[Jackie said...]
There is another site I use which requests donations to cover their running costs. They just show the percentage of next month's costs that have been covered so far this month, in the stats box on the left-hand menu bar. I quite like the %age idea because then you're not putting £ values to it.
[Christine said..]
Keep the ideas coming. They are ideas, they are supposed to be knocked around a bit until something workable emerges, they can't always be spot on straight away.
Evening all. Just got back from a weekend seeing my parents. On the way back, I had to go around a Land Rover ON FIRE on the motorway. Scary stuff!
Reddit. Dunno if it's a problem with ignorance or a problem with understanding girl-speak.
Gah, how do i stop myself from buying an android phone!
This is nuts, i think i actually liked it when i couldnt have a smartphone because of all the protectionism...
Hehehe
Hi there. Cars on fire. Not something you see every day ... unless it's a car-racing day.
hi chris
I agree with Lukeh. Some of this kit you've got is pretty expensive stuff - and also interesting in its own right, like the video test today.
Hi Guille and Chris.
Agreed. It must have just happened as I passed, as the fire brigade/police hadn't arrived
I dont know what i just did there... ipromise not to mess around with quotes again!
:D
iPromise?
Apple's new tablet computer?
:P Might start using that more often... "an internet promise" ;)
Another question you should ask yourself is "do I really want to be just friends with this person, or would I rather be getting it on with him/her?" Sometimes it is better for me to decline the "couldn't we just be friends?" part of the date/relationship request rejection because, if I'm being honest with myself, the answer is "no thanks, that's not enough for me."
evening ;)
Hey Lou.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77600
I firgot about the IRL race. Won by some Kiwi who is back in the lead of the championship
Montoya told me he was watching it while skysports insisted we keep watching the guys at watkins glen fill in.
It riled me!
Cool! I'll enjoy watching that in 6 months time!
You can say no?
I didnt even realise it was an option! :D Dont think i would have the guts to say it anyway...
Sidepodagonyaunt?
She's not into you mate. Move on. It sucks, but that's just how it is.
I know. I have. I know :P Just using it as an example.
Dad, Stepmum and my sister are out there now. Thankfully they are on the other side of the island.
It does suck. grrrrr
Sidepodlonelyhearts where are you?
Are they in Alcudia? That's where I went and it was lovely! Haven't seen my pics yet as my camera battery died, will do tomorrow!
Who, me? Excellent. :)
um, I think so, I'm not sure
Another radio show?
Just what I was thinking!
Were all booked up
should we create a club? :-(
Well that's too bad. Not.
Lack of guts on the girl's part is often what leads to the "we could still be friends" part in the first place. :)
What happened to the shows planned before the postponement?
The schedule stayed the same. New stuff added, (readded in my case) but all the stuff there before stayed.
We are still looking for fillers to slot between programs and to put on if there is a disaster.
I am going to have to shuffle some stuff now that it has been switched to a Saturday. I can't do the quiz at the scheduled time so that either has to move or someone else can take on Journeyer. I may also try and swap sidepodspace with Christine and Bassano's film show to guarantee that I am back and organised in time.
Has giggles still got 4 shows?
The current schedule is at http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Sidepodradio
Ah OK - I missed all of this due to holidays but at this stage I should be there on the day in case anyone needs assistance...
SidepodAgonyAunt fillers?
The wiki suggests its Sunday now.
He is doing four more after the original four were posted last weekend. You need to watch those when you get a chance Gavin.
When was that changed. It was Saturday 19th the last time I saw it. If it is on the Sunday that makes it a lot better from my point of view.
Will do, cheers ;)
Mini-problems
Sidepod Christine's Lonely Hearts Club
If you are looking to do a show Gavin I have an idea for you
Yesterday according to the history.
...band?
whassat?
:D
Morning.
I thought Gavin was still doing my show?
only if it's a jazz band
Wow thats a lot of effort!
If he didnt mind Perhaps we could 'borrow' one of his slots if other people wanted to do shows now the schedule if full?
morning sean
I am scheduled to do an F1 phone in show at 11pm with Alison. Providing she is happy to switch I am quite happy for you to do that show as I am already doing the quiz and sidepodspace and blogger questions. Had you been around when the schedule was set you would have had a show.
is this on a sunday? As I am normally in bed before 11pm GMT...
I thought you had re-recorded that. If the two of you are still doing that then fine. I just don't want anyone to feel left out.
Only if you're still keen - last I heard you wanted someone else to take the slot...
I only said that because at the time I thought you wouldn't be able to do it in time because you were going on holiday. I'm still game if you are. :P
AOL. Hell of a backlog here.
The one thing I am certain of is that something will change that will screw up the schedule so I would rather have some fillers or a couple of spare shows that can go up as blog posts. Christine has already suggested sidepodradio2.
Anyone who has any pre-records can post them at http://drop.io/sidepodradio/ Only Christine, Mr C and I can acces them so no-one is going to put out any spoilers
If you are doing the sim show with Scott it is not an issue.
Hi Sean
Hi Sean
I will be. I'm also offering to assist with any call ins / fillers / etc. I'm assuming Christine still wants us to call in and leave voice mails like before?
Cool, then I will be co-hosting with you ;)
Yes. All voicemails etc are greatly appreciated. We would also like 5 minute fillers. The blogger interviews will be used for that and Maverick is doing a bedtime story. Any ideas for fillers will be welcome.
Also some of the shows need voicemail questions sent in.
The next IRL race isn't one to look forward to: Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, California (formerly Sears Point). One-line road course in a hot dusty location.
Pressdog and other bloggers refer to it as Snorenoma. Infiniyawn. Sears Pointless.
Gavin: Brian L has a msg for you elsewhere.
A shame really - the circuit is just too tight and twisty :(
I have decided not to watch the ovals - still haven't watched Long Beach yet!
I am up to date with F1 and MotoGP and I managed to watch the Brno round of F2 AND the second round of BTCC tonight!
There are a few of those and there are things like Nikki's show where she is looking for people to leave a short message about their part of the world. She still needs more people to sign up at http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Travels+in+Sidepodland for that
Yeah I saw that, will respond properly soon (I'm going to compile a table later)...
I always had the impression that was one of the better tracks. SAying that I haven't seen a race their since CART was good.
I am told you MUST watch Kentucky. The aero changes I talked about the other day actually worked!
And I've set a deadline of September 1 for those call-ins. We need time to put them together.
Hmm OK then...
Also, if you want to leave a voicemail for mine you can. Or you can just ask them on the wiki with your name, but voicemails are always better.

Deadlines are good. Otherwise things just slide.
I haven't watched Long Beach yet either, nor any MotoGP.
I have watched A1GP Taupo and I've been wondering whether to write short one or two para articles on the blog whenever I watch something not-F1 and not-Indycar
I like people plugging their shows.
Steven comes from "Troon". How can anyone be interesting now?
Since we are plugging shows here. My lovely predos show needs more suggestions. And I'm unsure if Steven's 'Will Christine ever see a panda' as well as Jordan's will be enough. And predict yourself.
I can't leave Skype voice mails at the moment, it is OK if I send an email with an mp3? To Christine's address or somewhere else?
Seems like a good idea. It gives people who don't know about a formula or didn't see a race the basic information without taking too much effort.
I am going to cheat and do different bits of Scotland.

(close the 'related videos' tab in case of spoilers)
I was thinking about this but I'm not sure there's a lot that is interesting around here!
That is cheating. Scotland is full of such great names
I didn't know CART raced there.
I'm struggling with Newcastle. Need something intresting other than the nightlife.
Maybe we need to ask Christine to plug one show a day in the daily post to get feedback.
Ha! We (Canberra) don't even have interesting night life.
You can e-mail it to Christine or upload it to the sidepodradio drop http://drop.io/sidepodradio/
actually when the vid ends and shows other videos, you might get spoilers there. but if you're not watching it for 6months you'll have forgotten by then anyway :-)
I could do Japan but I have never been there.
Having said that, I could probably get my 19yo niece talk for an hour about her lat weekend out.
Do football teams and bridges and history. There must be a castle somewhere/
You have a lake. called Burly Griffin, which is a funny image. I leant all about it on the hollowmen.
Has/is that show comming back for another season?
There's a plan. I could do Fiji - never been there.
I'm cheating by looking on our tourist website place. Still yet to find out why the Millenium Bridge is intresting, why they have a now defunct indoor themepark still there baffles me, and they have something from doon south (Sunderland way) and on the coast. Thats no help
There is, wouldn't call it inspiring.
Just like your football team. ;)
:D the interesting thing about that bridge is they have no approval for it, and are still getting people to pay donations for building it.
Oh I love to point that out all the time.
Metro Centre?
Is it not meant to be identical to the bridge in Sydney?
Went there today. Not the same. Though the new Yellow Cube or, Qube, is gonna be good.
Good night all!
Oh yeah. I guess I should probably mention that bridge. I forgot about it for a sec.
Never heard of Yellow Cube.
Night Gavin.
Night Gavin
Night¬!
night gavin
Night
In the Metro Centre there is different malls, going by colour. The yellow mall is now the, ahem Qube, going to be the entertainment area, cinema, bowling, restraunts, lots of them.
Night Mr Gavin
Night, Gavin!
And I'm off to dragon boating. See everyone later.
I have driven past it quite a few times but never been in.
Ta, will do then.
Bye Nikki
Have fun!
See ya Nick.
Not the same as it used to be, fewer shops sadly.
See ya Nikki.
Dont get eaten!
I love the idea of dragon boats in Canada for some reason
Whoops. Nikki*
bye nikki
I was a bit worried i was being thrown out :P
see ya Nikki
night Gavin
No dragons are harmed (or even used) in the execution of this event. :)
Execution probably isn't the best word to use...
That is good to hear :P
Bingo. Got a good one.
I think they do that on this lake of ours. We could have Aus Vs Canada
Alright, I'm off too. Unfortunately I don't get to do anything as exciting as boating with dragons. I'm off to uni.
See ya round.
But we have Bingo all over the UK?
see ya Sean
Have fun!
Sounds like we need an online dragon boat racing game so we can ut on internationa races.
Bye Sean
bye sean
But do you have the British Grand Prix?
(Be quiet Derby)
see ya later sean
Hard luck, bye.
My village does have a lot of international sport, but it doesn't quite go that far!

Wierdly, I'm finding the Sheffield part harder than the Chesterfield part, even though Sheffield has more stuff in it. And don't get me started on the transition between the two...
I'm not doing too bad considering I forgot to do predictions for the first two races
