Hi there. Hope your week is going well. Hot on the heels of the announcement that Sidepodcast will be boycotting the 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix, I have decided that I will be boycotting Thursdays, as they are rrrrubbish. I won’t be doing anything of any use on that day, in order to avoid getting deeper into more rubbish. Until the situation changes that will remain the case. It should be noted that the choice is not a tricky one to make for me – I can always choose to have the day off or call it my second Wednesday. I urge you to join in so that Thursdays can be banned for good… ;)
In other news, well, there’s not much really. Damon Hill is stepping down as chairman of the BRDC, to be replaced by Derek Warwick…Sergio Perez is sure he will be fit for Canada, giving a great interview with F1.com… and the Senna movie has done really rather well in the box office.
Have you checked out Christine’s Driver and Team Rankings, or the Tweets of the Week?
It’s the Canadian Grand Prix later this week, but for me the big excitement of the weekend is Le Mans, which is an awesome spectacle. The action begins later this evening with qualifying, covered by the excellent commentary of Radio Le Mans. I cannot wait to see the titanic battle between Audi and Peugeot – it looks so tight right now that I have no idea what will happen! I have also found an excellent form guide and spotters guide for you too. BadgerGP has a great guide to life at Le Mans – which there is lots of ;) Oh, and Anthony Davidson has taken a pic of his rooms for us ;)
Finally here’s a funny print error from the Grauniad to make you chuckle – well at least it made Em Bearpark smile ;)
Have a great day and see you in the comments ;)
You can't boycott Thursdays, they are awesome.
Can't believe how pampered Davidson has it.. you're supposed to collapse in a heap in the back of the pits for a quick 40 winks before being dumped back in the car 3 or 4 hours later..
Thursday was awesome only when there was Thursday Thoughts.....
Morning folks,
Just in the doors - rather tired. How is all?
God. today this computer can not do anything right...anyway.... time to fix that last quote.
Thursday was awesome only when there was Thursday Thoughts.....

Also tired. Eyes hurt a bit, have been staring at screens all day when I'd promised myself a break.. Must have a clear break between work and home.
And because there are fewer people around at work so I can have an easier day of it. And I do the occasionaly Daily post ;)
Looking forward to Le Mans qualifying tonight and tomorrow night. On that note, sleep time.
Thursday is a funny day. Wednesday I fin that people are happy as it is hump day and it is downhill until teh weekend. Thursday is sort of rough because everyone is thinking:
"Good God! Not another day of this before the weekend!"
Well, I have a few chores to do now, so I will be leaving everyone...
See you all tomorrow, June 8th, EDT then....
night jordan
Is Mr C still around?
4 about 2 more mins, why?
Is it possible to set up something that would notify post authors when someone comments on their post?
I noticed a comment on my Gerry Birrell post by chance earlier today. It was only then that I noticed Gerry Birrell's daughter had left a comment a couple of weeks ago
http://sidepodcast.com/post/gerry-birrell-what-might-have-been#comment-1111005
It made me wonder if there was a way of finding out if any comments had been left on any other old post without going through each of them individually
ooh yup, pretty easy, will try at the weekend. probably a playground thing.
awesome comments too!
I was stunned that when someone who worked for JYS commented then when I checked back and found Gerry's daughter had comment I was amazed.
ok, top priority for sat/sun. now i sleeps.
Good night

:D
Morning :)
OK, if there is no Thursday what do I do tomorrow ?
morning
Am finally catching up with GT1 Silverstone races - while Crofty is cool, it just seems weird without Ben Edwards...
the 2012 olympic torch has been unveiled http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13686777
Remington Men's shaver.
Morning folks!
Just read this article on... transparent concrete!
http://freshome.com/2011/06/07/an-intriguing-design-innovation-litracon®-transparent-concrete/
Mind-blowing stuff. Whatever will they think of next?
Ms Natalie isn't doing this race, Crofty says: Another day another plane & @NataliePinkham has turned into @JennieGow for this race. Very confusing for a man who's 41 next week :)
no Ant, no Nat, Crofty has a lot of fort to hold on to :)
ooh Nigella is on Masterchef.
just the sound of her voice makes me want to eat a large piece of chocolate cake. I think this is the key to her success.
http://rubbergoat.wordpress.com/2009/08/20/can-cook-will-swallow/
Jennie Gow - the host of BBC MotoGP last season but was mysteriously dropped in place of Matt Roberts this year?
your post makes me want cake as well.
We're having a farewell lunch at work tomorrow, I assume there will be cake there. Phew.
Have we seen Jeremy recently? It's his birthday today.
I just had cake... we get it every Wednesday in the work canteen ;)
Steve jobs is building a mothership to move 12,000 apple people to the moon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtuz5OmOh_M&feature=player_embedded#at=134
Cake every week sounds like heaven, but I might not love cake so much if I had it all the time!
Ah it's only a little piece ;)
This week it was Angel Delight with chocolate bits and pop rocks on top. We loved having pop rocks in our mouths!
Happy Birthday Jeremy!
Yes this is what I meant. Happy Birthday! :D
Also Nick did you get my message before?
I said happy birthday on facebook because I haven't seen him here in aaaages but I'll add a Happy Birthday here in case he's lurking :)
Just seen it, sorry havent been looking at my phone
He lurks Amy, don't worry :)
He's probably on here more than facebook still...
jeremmyyyy come ouuuuuut
all my Aus GP crew seem to have gone into lurkdom recently :(
Winter Hibernation?
ooh perhaps.
Oh, yes... and happy birthday from me too!
Looks like a wet wet wet weekend ahead http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/271
oh canada :(
oh canada! :P should make for a fun (DRS-less) race. :D
Depends on who you ask.... Ask 2 meteorologists they think and you will get 3 opinions!
http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/qc-147_metric_e.html
Currently hot and humid (30+) Calling for much more reasonable for the weekend.
Fantastic idea!
I demand a hibernation period!

The techies are tweeting about the DRS - wondering how it would work with such a low downforce wing...
It'd be interesting to see how a wet race would go this year, but Canada doesn't need it!
Canada can throw crazy results. Any race can throw up crazy results. Put those two together, and goodness knows how crazy things will get. It may also be the field's best chance yet to seriously dent Vettel's title lead.
Ooh, that's true. Bring on the rain!
Petrov FTW!
Yay!
this just reminded me to place my Heikki bet, thanks :D
Back to Petrov now.... :p
I have a few favourites.
Meh. Canada isn't really all that low-downforce.
Monza will be very interesting, though.
I meant to say any WET race can throw up crazy results, but it seems you get the point. :D
Yes indeed. The only place it could be more trouble is Monaco, but we dodged that one.
Hello all! :)
I think they "co hosted" motogp last year, and the BBC wanted a reshuffle with M. Roberts being the main presenter ... they have a "pit reporter" called "Azni someone" I think this year instead, perhaps Jennie didnt want to be shifted to just being a "pit reporter" ??
Azi Farni. She's like Lee McKenzie. Just wondered why Jennie Gow just disappeared!
Morning Everyone...
That's for sure. The small strip of ground that Canadian tuff to the south of Montreal has been flooded for going now two months now....
Prediciting the weather in Canada is more art than science. It;'s it just as accurate to consult entrails or sacificed animals as it is to use supercomputers.
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caqc0363?ref=homecity
The Canadian Weather Network is calling for Clouds on Saturday and light rain on Sunday.
Environment Canada calls for Sun on Saturday and Rain on Sunday.
My adviee to everyone is to grab a dartboard, assign various types of weather to the numbers, throw darts at it and you can play at being a Canadian Weatherman....
"Sunny with a mixature of sleet and haze and fog" can actually happen here....
Since some of you have been to an actual F1 race before, about how much does it cost? I'd like to go all 3 days, and if possible, get into the paddock on practice day or something.
It varies greatly depending on location. I spent an estimated USD1000 for Singapore (and I got so-so seats just before Piquet Corner), and I spent an estimated USD600 for Malaysia (and I got amazing seats in front of the start-finish line and podium). China was somewhere in between - I spent around USD800 for that (getting seats at the final hairpin). All are per-head estimates, including plane and hotel along with the race tickets.
Where do you plan to watch?
Austin Texas, U S of A baybee!
Thanks, that gives me a good general idea.
Ahhh. Would love to go there. :D Thing is, while it's easy to research plane tickets and hotel bookings as early as now, we have no idea how much the F1 tickets will be. But setting aside $750 should take you a long way based on my other experiences. :)
Transportation to race: My car (driving down from Denver)
"Hotel": friends guest bedroom.
So basically all I'm paying for is food, gas, and the tickets :)
Heh. In that case, USD500 should do it. I'm assuming inaugural GP tickets will be pricey. And Denver-Austin at $4 a gallon isn't cheap. ;)
Apparently, Radio Le Mans has been hacked. Goodness knows why anyone would want to hack them, but there ya go.
Hello. I am not happy 'cos I did this leaving for work this morning. Looks worse than the pics show..
http://patwotton.posterous.com/bugger
Oh actually they don't now I see them at a proper size
Ouch! Looks like a bit of car vs bollard.
Car vs wall! Had the nose up close to the parked car, released the clutch with a bit of power on to get up the hill, crunch. Was late for work and the snap choice was 'you've gone a long way with it, carry on or go back?'. Thinking I'd done the damage and going back would make it worse I carried on... I should've gone back.
At Spa the ticket itself was something like 350 euros for an uncovered grandstand. By the time you've added travel and accomodation you can double that.
bad times for money, but totally totally worth every pound i spent :)
Oh dear :(
Le Mans practice is on. Qualifying is at 9pm UK. Do we want a thread?
Although saying that I may be heading to the cinema.. turning it down though as I can't be bothered to drive an hour each way after the day I've had..
My life has become very frustrating recently. Every time I get a text message, it sends repeated copies every 3 minutes until I have about 10 of them. The noise was so annoying I had to turn it off. Looking at it now, 34 new messages AAAARGH!!
Ooh happy birthday Jeremy. And to TM for the other day.
If Nick finds out you'll get a lot more :)
Enjoy a little something from the sidepodcast.com back catalogue.

Evening guys :)
Gavin, You're in good company in your dislike of Thursdays. As soon as I read the daily today, I thought of the following quote from Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
"This must be Thursday," said Arthur musing to himself, sinking low over his beer, "I never could get the hang of Thursdays."
he's been blogging about it, http://guille2306.posterous.com/puyehue-cordon-caulle-eruption-day-3
he seems okay, but it seems like such a big thing to happen tho!

Hehehehe, love that daily mail error Gavin. Awesome daily as always :)
Boycotting thursday means we can get to another f1 weekend quicker, i like this idea!
I have my job interview in the morning :( Not a great start to the day....
Thanks, didn't know he had that one too.
We'll make tomorrow a positive thursday then!
Although that's the best way to get through any thursday anyways :)
Good luck Alison, I'm sure it'll go fine.
Hehehe I guess I should wash my hair and work out what I'm wearing....
Good luck
Oh bother. I thought it was going to be a nice day tomorrow but the forecast is cold. I'm not even sure I own smart non-ruined trousers. Maybe I'll just risk the skirt and end up cold.
Anyone else watching the tennis? Nadal's match is about to start.
been watching it all day. hoping this one doesn't get interrupted by rain tbh.
traditional british tennis weather, of course ;)
Although hopefully it'll be nice enough to you to stay nice and dry friday.
it's not going to be. it's meant to be rainy showers for the next 3 days. :s
Mum has replaced the tennis with emmerdale... emmerdale..
*runs to bbc website*
Okay very brrrrr tomorrow. Might have to wear dress with tights. At least you won't be able to see goosebumps that way....
Who is Nadal playing?
Matthew Ebden, which as far as i know is the surname of a snooker player too so that's why he'll struggle
Not because nadal is mindblowingly good or anything :)
:D
Sounds like it'll be a close match! :)
One of the women from Birds of a Feather is on emmerdale! That show was awesome.
Birds of a Feather, I mean. Wouldn't dare falsely accuse emmerdale.
Rafa's already had a few tasty serves in this first set, but old
peterebdon isn't doing too badly...Evening
hello!
Hullo Mr Bassano :)
ohhhh must charge my camera tomorrow.. eeeekkk totally excited for Friday :)
How are we all?
Anything groundbreaking to report?
Ooh, what's happening?
good thank you! how are you?
after months of worries i may be able to go to goodwood FOS for 2 days. *happy happy*..
I'm off to the tennis! :) i'm going to get wet, but no where near Spa levels i'm hoping so that should be fine :)
Cool. You can chat to Janna and Kai about it at the meet-up
Not bad cheers mr Bassano :)
Streetcar extension in New Orleans http://www.railwayage.com/breaking-news/lahood-joins-new-orleans-groundbreaking-event-3212.html
Nice, is that Wimbledon starting then or a pre-Grand Slam event?
ah... probably wont be able to be at the meetup.. need to spend some time with my German friend who is staying with us :(
Sorry I didn';t realise I said mr bassano in both times I've said hello now. How odd.
Queens Club tennis :)
I'm ok. Flat out at work but it's interesting and challenging at the moment so it's good
Was gonna plug the meetup in my daily Friday anyways but I should be there in a few weeks :)
And she doesn't like historic English pubs and mini pies?
We could introduce her to a world where 3G and phone signal has no meaning
*marks Nick down as a Railway Age reader*
Hey, you asked for groundbreaking, its the first one i found!
i'm sure she does, but F1 isn't her fav thing, plus i can't leave her for a few days and then leave her wed evening too.. it's goodwood or the sidepodpub! :o
i always get fine signal and 3G in the sidepodpub :)
Dario will be sponsored by Huggies this weekend
http://twitpic.com/58s7a5
Cos we talk about F1 a lot at meet-up?
I understand though
Which network, Orange?
I need to buy a SIM for my MiFi, this could be a factor :)
I'm on Orange and it was useless in that pub
yep :) Orange rule :)
you're the chosen one! the one with the signal! :)
oh???... i could have sworn i was in the comments at one point in the evening?..
You can get something through but it takes an age. Probably because 15 people are trying the same thing in a weak signal
hehehe you know what i mean!
it's a shame that her visit is that week! any other week in the year we wouldn't have had an issue. lol! ah well, we'll just have to have another meetup at one point of the summer ;) anyone up for going to Mercedes world to watch a GP? :)
Bassano are you off to Goodwood?
I'm not sure what to do now, I just used to blame my old phone. Now I have a good phone I have nothing to blame, not even iceland!
No, I'm an Usher at my Niece's wedding that weekend. Can't really get away with it
I'm sure it's not too late for them to book goodwood house (and win the lottery) :)
ahh :( that's a shame. But i'm sure will be a great weekend regardless. You must come next year tho! :)
I'd like to
I'm in Edinburgh the following weekend to console myself :)
:D
Sorry if this is ignorant, but aren't they normally aged around 7?
That's a Page Boy
You could look like this http://www.stareditions.com/Photo/5560-Prince-William
:D
SidepodScotland?
That's pretty close though my shoes are slightly less girly
Not really, though if anyone's keen...
Yay, I found Asif Kapadia [Senna Director] finally on Twitter
Have asked his permission to use Q&A audio from Monday
I need to find out when and where Senna is showing in the states. If only I had some magical "network device" that gave me access to all this information.
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/post/canada-2011-race-information
@SennaMovie:
We'll be in theaters in the US beginning in August. What city do you live in?
Think some major markets have had advanced screenings though
Ah I see. My mistake :P
Not at this precise time no. I'm run ragged as it is at the mo.
Looks like it showed in NY last night. Hopefully there'll be some Denver showings!
Evening. Is the Le Mans Qualli streamed online anywhere?
Eurosport Player for a small fee
Thanks...Done!
Le Mans! Just watched Truth in 24 again with Mrs. Goat :)
ahhhhhhh i thought he'd already finished filming but they've not finished building the set yet... soon Johnny Depp will be in Farnham! aahhh may have to go back and visit!
Le Man! Go Ant!
You know, I think it may be a good idea to head back once again and check just in case you left anything behind... again... :P
I hope you don't mind a #GuerillaPing but I took the liberty of writing a live thread for Le Mans qualifying. :)
http://sidepodcast.com/post/live-2011-le-mans-24-hours-qualifying
I am just about to update with a link to the spotters guide.
ahhhhhhhhh we're gonna go back the moment we know they're filming and go say hi :) aannnnnnddd Sherlock 2 is going to be filmed soon near that location too.. ahhh <3 Farnham :)
Mind? It makes our day! :)
:D :D
Dark Shadows, apparently
http://surrey.greatbritishlife.co.uk/article/surrey-film-locations-2505/
Look out for Tim Burton and Helena too. Johnny spotted in Sainsbury's, so t'internet says
Honestly, could you have chosen a more perfect place for you? So much so even your favourite actors and films are coming to say hello. Next step - McLaren decide to head down the road from woking for a special event... ;)
hehe yes i heard that rumour. We thought they filmed it last week, but apparently not. set looks cool tho. Honestly think i would collapse if i met Johnny.. so maybe hiding in the trees taking photos would be better. :) We're all gonna head back to Farnham the moment we hear they are filming.. ah.. gosh we're a bit silly really.
that will never happen. but it's okay. i'll make it to woking soon :)
I look forward to the DVD extra of a load of girls falling out a tree in the background of a scene
Blimey when did it get so late!? I have SO much to do :(

Call me mad but were there SPC shared google calendars for racing series this year?
Yep!

Thanks thought I was going mental. Nice and easy link that!
hehe being an f1 photog looks like one of our photog uni trips! :)

SidepodChalet, better than this :)
we should tell them about the motorhomes in Spa.. wonder if they know.. lol
and by motorhomes i mean mobile homes..
Which were actually static, not mobile

Time to head to bed, this cold is going to send me to sleep the moment i get home at this rate :) night guys.
Night Lukeh, don't go sick. Lemsip and vitamin C tomorrow
Woohoo! I've found the book I need to take with my to my interview tomorrow. Only took 10 mins :D Considering that I haven't seen it in about a year, I wasn't holding out much hope....
You're going then? Good luck [or not*]
*delete as applicable ;)
Yeah I'm going. I think I want it. Can't turn down a bit of extra cash while you're trying to save up....
Shouldn't you concentrate on the interview rather than sit there reading a book?
Hehehe I have a list of stuff I need to bring and annoyingly it includes every stupid corporate training workbook I've ever had....
I think I'm going to have quite an easy time of it though. The guy doing the interview is very enthused about one particular morale boosting work philosophy and that's basically what I've spent the last 3 months working on in my last shop so hopefully we can talk about that.
Staff discount? :)
ok. Here I am.
*Reposts for those returning*
Hah!!! More like "choose your attitude" kind of motivation. I think I'd rather have a payrise.
Eurgh they must be stupid. Why are they polluting the sea like that. We all need to drink that....
What do you mean 'choose your attitude" motivation? You are in charge of bringing a positive attitude to staff, that kind of thing?
Likely to be on small islands but I don't think the environment was their first consideration
Yes. My company has very much bought into a cheerful work philosophy. Making work fun gets things done. That kind of thing.
Cos that always works when you aren't paying your staff bucketloads in the first place
Yes well I'm not into all that cheesy nonsense but somehow I've been left in charge of "bringing it to life" and I can definitely talk about my amazing wall displays :P
Quite incredible
Not to mention the atmosphere
Who knew there were so many. The only [relatively] quiet time was in the 90s as folk were no doubt breaking down Eastern European barriers
Bikini Atoll for example
Oh dear
Yeah, ducks fly as well as swim ya know :D
Which is the most odd reason for a fashion trend to be named
If you like your work and enjoy the people you work with it can be fun. I've had fun in jobs in the past. Not for a long time now, but in the past. Life's too short to do work you hate.
:D I was just having a conversation last week I'm sure about living too close to Sellafield to have avoided being mildly irradiated I'm sure....
828 of the test (the huge white dot) in the U.S. were underground tests in Nevada.
Doesn't excuse it. However, the thing the video doesn't do is differentiate size, type of explosion (atmospheric, underwater, or underground) and output pollution levels. That what makes me nervous; especially atmospheric output.
Which is all well and good but management-enforced cheeriness is highly tedious
oh yeah, I put that into the category of 'not a good place to work' if it were me.
You mean me making you write on a mood board isn't what you want to kick off your morning? I'm stunned.
That would explain why Vegas is so loopy. It's in the water
Just give me a cup of tea.
Do you have to be cheerful all the time there, then?
That'd go down really well with our guys
We can't even get them to fill out an annual, anonymous survey unless they have an added incentive
A mood board? Sounds very happy clappy. Do you finish with singing the company song?
The perils of being 'customer facing'
Yeah, been there. oh wait, I'm still there?? argh.
Pretty much :D :D :D
How do you think I get so grumpy the rest of the time :P
You mean, it's not contagious?
Nick?
You save all the grump for us, then? :(
It's okay to be cheerful here, too.
I'm only joking. I'm a very cheery person. I think perhaps I have a strange sense of humour.
AS Alex isn't here
Reasons to be cheerful
Things don't always come across when typing. That's happened to me, too.
Aw, I love that.
Thanks
Isn't that why they invented smileys?
Cos they never go wrong
This is a great quote
Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. –Albert Einstein
Agreed. :)
It's funny, used to drive down to Vegas all the time from Eugene Oregon in college. My record time for the 954 mile drive was 12 hours, 43 minutes going at a speed that may not of landed me a gambling/drinking budget killing speeding ticket.
I stopped by the test site a few times. Eerrrie place.
Did you glow in the dark after?
I love this one especially http://gamboling.co.uk/2011/01/28/reasons-to-be-cheerful-part-1/
oh yes, I follow him on twitter now. He shares some good stuff.

Pat, what's happening with Indycar this weekend? I can look it up if I'm asking something ridiculous.
They're turning left a lot, I'm guessing
hehe
Oh, well, in that case, I'll watch!

Texas at 8pm (EST) on Versus.
I answered myself. Yes, I did.
Two races of 275km instead of one at 550
Thanks :)
Asif Kapadia replied to my tweet and put me in touch with the Press Office of the Senna film.
May be an answer soon
Cool.
My kindle is waaaay too addictive. #muststopreading
I've never used one. I've been told they don't have the glare problems that some laptops do.
It's amazing, I can't make any sense of how it works but it's like a miracle....
The display is brilliant except in very low light. They use ambient light in the magical e-ink technology display
Awesome. My laptop is a more like a mirror in sunlight. Not so easy to read.
I don't need an e-reader, but it sounds great.
Kai, I need to chat to you about your OS and upgrading to Lion this year
Another time, not now
How's about in 20 days? :)
Yeah, that'll probably be fine :D
I can't believe it's so soon, and yet feels so far away with trying to end the school year.
