I hope everyone is having a good week so far, but if not, it's the mid-point today - Wednesday. Things can only get better, and if they don't get better then we're closer to the weekend than we were before. Now you have that uplifting thought, here are some other topics to think about:
- Lukeh has written an excellent piece on his blog regarding his trip to Goodwood. It was his first time at the Festival of Speed and it's fair to say he got a lot more out of it than we did on our first attempt at navigating the hill!
- For once, the letters F, I and A are not miserable around here, as there is the prospect of a new president come October. Okay, that's getting a bit carried away, but if someone is prepared to stand against the dreaded Max, then I am prepared to believe he can do it. Joe has some more information on Ari Vatanen and he seems to be an all round good guy.
- Yesterday, we were discussing the relative merits of Villeneuve's attempts to rejoin the sport. Without wishing to ignite that debate again, Jacques did raise a good point that with the testing ban, experience counts for a lot. Who else would you like to see make a triumphant return, or who would you most like to stay away?
That'll do for now. Don't forget, you can listen to the last episode of the recent F1 Safety episode, or if you're hanging around for the omnibus, it should be along later today. I'll see you in the comments.
Bring back Franck (what's the opposite of sorry Christine?)
Urm... you're welcome Christine? :)
I say bring back Jordan F1 so we can get EJ off BBC F1 and back into an area we won't hear from him as much
Im starting to think id rather keep him over 'fans favourite' DC
Oh him and his helicopter rushes
:P
At least EJ would be sure to stick around so he can tell tales of how Jordan basicly made F1 what it is today
DC may not have helped his reputation at Goodwood but n TV he is way better than EJ
It may not be his fault, ya never know. He may have actually had no time on his hands!
I can hear it now...
"Let me ask you something. My stupid pilot's late, he's just got an unbelievably lack of motivation for his job, and the use of KERS in his job has been a monumental failure, a true testament to how bad it has all been when we all know it was gonna be better without it. Back when I was with my team we did fine with KERS and stayed motivated. What do you think of Goodwood?"
No time to even wave?
It wasnt just that, when i was watching them get ready for the first f1 run of the weekend, everyone was calling out to the drivers, Timo came over, DC just wandered off to talk to the hangers on around the cars
Anyone else just said that in an EJ accent in their head?
It works! :P
I just heard the word idiot in a strong Irish accent in my head. As in EJiot!
niiiiiiiiice
Dictionary
Time to head off me thinks. Night all!
night!
Night. Think I'll head too. 1am is the earliest night I've had in ages and I need it!
Oh... Night people!
I know i was complaining that Wimbledon didnt start early enough, but why does the TV coverage of the ashes have to start at 10 am?
Its just not gentile
4 degrees this morning and frost on the ground. Someone needs to tell melbourne this is not new zealand and frost is unacceptable
Aww i like frost, unless i'm on my bike. Coming down a hill with both brakes locked up and wheels not moving but me still moving is a baaad moment. And then the rear came round b....
well...it was messy ;)
But it does make the air nice and fresh and crunchy!
Parting shot: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8138992.stm
ESPN to set up UK sports channel.
They already have ESPN America but this will be our own version
Its replacing ESPN A. So much the same but with the premier leauge games which will be produced by sky
I didn't know your name was 'Steven oy'. ;)
I figured it out. The opposite of 'Sorry Christine' is 'ping'
so what's the oppsite of Sorry Amy? Heikki?
How can air be crunchy?
It's pretty crunchy when it's minus 6.
Kemblewatch - Morning all. Brawn have now gone and Williams are here today - looks like being a nicer day too.
Cheers,
Rob Sinfield
I had a dream a giant rat came out of my fridge. I didn't want to open it this morning. Am kinda hungry.
giant are officially only pandas
If it had been a panda, I woulda been straight in that fridge this morning :)
but panda would only go into the fridge full of bamboo :-)
Good point :)
talking panda - here is live stream, Panda Channel, live from our Ocean Park
http://pctv.netvigator.com/pctv/players/panda/loadPlayer.jsp?channel=panda2
today at work I dropped my phone into a sink.
I had pretty bad mobile doohickey withdrawals.
Ouchies. Is your mobile still working?
It still worked when I fished it out, but I turned it off and took it to bits to dry out for a while. Fingers crossed.
Oh for the day when all mobiles are waterproof.
If it worked when it was wet, it'll work when it's dry. :)
It wasn't working 100% though, the lights on the buttons were on even when the phone was off, they didn't go off until I took the battery out :D
Yeah, that's happened to me too a couple of times. It didn't stop the phone from working later.
Morning alll! Silly ashes making me get up!
BBC have Panda news: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/south_of_scotland/8138867.stm
Looks more like a cat/dog hybrid to me
Bah, it's not a proper panda.
I dint know pandas were also available in red..
Someone must have fed them way too much red panda pop...
Our next division meeting in the office tomorrow has an F1 theme. Goodness knows why. Something tells me I'll cringe at the way they'll do it...
How does a meeting have a theme?
Let us know how it turns out.
not that watching ghostbusters affected you, or anything?
Hehe. They tie up the theme with the talks management will conduct, as well as in PowerPoint templates and the like.
ace. do you know who's driving?
What other themes have you had? Have you done the '80s yet? That's always a popular choice for parties.
Why couldn't Stay Puft have come out of my fridge instead? That wouldn't be scary and I wouldn't be hungry after all that marshmallow!
Our previous meeting was on a rooftop. We've also done in the past themes like "18th birthday debut", "outdoor cookout", and even the Oscars.
who keeps marshmallow in the fridge?
Do you get to dress up?
Um, dunno. I don't tend to keep rats in my fridge either though.
Who throws a shoe?
:)
here is a blog about the exhibition I'm gonna visit when I'm in NZ. Only a few of the more recent posts are interesting (ie have photos of cars) though :)
Yep, usually we do. We get prizes for best costume too...
sounds like productive meeting.
Are you sure this isn't a party?
Nope - parties don't have long, boring talks in between. :( And we don't get party favors either. ;)
and for this f1 meeting, you're going as... a mclaren?
:D Not in a million years!
I'll probably wear my Ferrari stuff - but given that I use my F1 jacket at work everyday, I'm not sure that counts as a costume... ;)
cool. when are you going?
They have F1 cars in New Zeeland? How strange...
I wonder if they got lost?
An F1 party sounds like a great idea. I would get a fake beard and go as Heidfeld. We could play Villeneuve's album as music, and drink Johnnie Walker whisky.
October 13, I fly into Wellington solely because that exhibition is there. My brother thinks its because he lives in Wellington and I'm paying him a visit, but nahhh.
:D
I'm so there :)
Heheh well the main exhibition ones all came from England :D Theres lots of early McLarens in New Zealand though, for obvious reasons :D
Count me in! ;) Can Mr C come as Bibendum? :D
Yes!!
Dont forget the Kingfisher beer! & various energy drinks for mixers
I'd get on the Nescafe. Do they even sponsor McLaren anymore?
Ooh, excellent. Good plan.
I... think so?
I think so, otherwise they wouldnt have any cups to drink out of in the drivers parade!
Duracel batteries for the Wiimotes
Which we'll be playing on LG TVs. Or do you prefer Panasonics? ;)
The Ashes is about to start...
Bumble is on twitter... http://twitter.com/BumbleCricket
I will try to contain my cricket excitement, but it may not be easy ;)
appears yes
ah yes, I forgot their branding is on those bottles. They're definitely not as prominent as they used to be, I remember seeing Kimi Nescafe ads on TV a bit in the past.
Panasonic for the win
will Martini girls be present ?
They might be too much of a distraction...
well better them then Zepter pans and pots :-)
If someone else came as a Bridgestone tyre, they could have a fight. That would provide some entertainment!
hey!
To be honest a party with somebody dressed as Bibendum already sounds pretty fun!
Oops. Sorry. I got carried away with the party thing.
Given F1's history would we all have to smoke copious amounts?
I have friend who does not need to dress up like Bibendum, he looks like one and is proud of it :-)
They'd only be able to go 4 rounds
Hope during the fight nobody would get too tyred
We'll know when they're finished when one gets flat (out)
But F1 already quit the habit. ;)
Somebody would have to be having a crafty Marlboro
Not according to Marlboro's adverts they haven't!
heeh!
before that there may be some flat spots though
I'm sure it will go wheely well
:D
Perhaps disguised as something innocent and subliminal...
Yeah... "Don't mind me I'm just smoking this pencil" ;)
always and option to borrow Rizzla from MotoGP party
If someone went as a BMW they could argue the smoke was just 'in character' ;)
And http://twitter.com/Aggerscricket
Awesomeness! Redoubled :D
I know that Cricket isn't widely followed here... not even by me... but I must say I am partial to a sport which is so sedate that the commentators are given cakes by the public during their commentary.
http://twitter.com/Aggerscricket/status/2528992852
Weirdly... And it's probably just me and fourstar who think this but I've been working on a theory that cricket and F1 are similar sports.
In some ways they are team sports and some ways they are individual sports. When you are fielding you are all working together when you are batting you send two of your team out there to do their best.
5livef1 tried the same, but then realised no-one could could get near the paddock.
which sorta sums up f1.
I quite enjoy the Ashes, and I don't know why because I generally only watch cricket if the Black Caps are playing, and even then I barely watch it. The only ODI I have ever been to though was NZ vs England and it was fantastic. A good day out.
 hehehe, thats brilliant!
There must be some way of sending croftie sausages!
So who are you supporting? (perhaps i should take this opportunity to point out that Finland is closer to England than Australia ;) )
http://www.sausagesdirect.com/
England! I really enjoyed 2005 :D :D
Hehe, that's brilliant, perhaps we should have some sort of co-ordinated sausage strike at some point.
Sky are brilliant, i pay them lots of money for there skyplayer, then they decide to give it away free to all there satellite customers.
Then... It breaks. :(
Morning guys and gals
I know this is a family safe site, but Zoe just did the funniest physical 'macho man point to crotch' type action while yelling out Sausages Direct!
I bet she's really happy you shared that with us as well.
Surprisingly yes :P
Someone take my internet away from me, I'm wasting it
Do I have to shoo you as well?
quite possibly. I'm youtubing boy bands I don't even like.
Stop it! There's only one boy band you should be YouTubing.
I don't need to youtube their videos, I have the DVD :D
Well that will save on the internets!
I may need to resort to DVDs, I think Michael Jackson is on every channel on TV. Enough already.
with ice cream and orange m&ms?
Had a woman cry on me at work today. I helped her find the MJ CDs and DVDs. He's with god now apparently.
You should have pretended you had no idea who he was...
...Was he in Nsync? tends to really rile some people
Insurance?
iPhone or Android as a replacement?
Oh my god! Google are making an OS!
Hi all
Hope all's good, what's new in the Sidepodcast world?
Who do you want to win on Sunday?
For a big phone?
Lewis! Clearly the message hasn't got through to everyone....
Better say it again, just to make sure.
Apparently it will be Linux based and for netbooks. Interesting.
It would be good to see someone new. Maybe Webbo?
Bourdais to win!
I think its just a cloud browser, it will be interesting, im not sure id like all my stuff in the bowels of some corporation
I would put money on Tater Head getting a win before Le Seb.
next year, or maybe the year after.
Im not sure you meant it like this, but i read web-boo
and it made me chuckle
Is it not just so they can have something in Beta?
Chrome OS is a rubbish name. Google Doors, or Google Curtains, just to poke fun at Windows.
Betcha can't guess. BETCHA.
hehe. no.
it's a pointless marketing announcement designed to grab headlines and rile microsoft. android already runs on the same devices they're talking about.
essentially they've just announced that they're thinking about where to take android next, whilst getting a bit of good PR value out of chrome (the browser that still doesn't run on a mac/linux).
:)
I'm angry at Chrome for not working properly with doohickey [new] ness. It hadn't told me there were 10+ new comments since I last looked!
So it isnt just a beefed up version of chrome to access cloud computing?
they have broken it, and i'm not sure why :(
Yes, that is very annoying!
Silly google, it worked before
I'd pick lewis first (being a macca fan naturally) but i'd really love to Heidfeld do it (fat chance that'll happen)
Realistically - I wanna see Webber or Kimi win this week
I just found myself on F1 Racing's wallpaper from the British GP....
It's the pic with Lewis passing Alonso, if you look directly above Lewis's front right wheel and above the A in (Abbey) i'm the idiot stood arms aloft with a white flag behind me
http://www.f1racing.co.uk/parade_20090701
The gf is next to me but she's just a tiny dot!
I might save it for the weekend posts?
Cant argue with this. Probably more realistic...
My F1 Racing arrived today and I flicked through it and only read one article in full. I've never done that before. I'm so ho-hum towards it at the moment that I don't recognise myself
The July issue? It was not a good one.
But why? Is it F1R's fault?
not as i understand it no. seems more likely to be a beefed up version of android. it'll likely supported touch screen and 3g connections etc. a phone OS on your netbook.
A Webber win would be good for Button if he can't win it himself. It makes RBR's dilemma on how to approach the championship more acute.
I don't think it helped that the first full article was on politics. Put me right off. Then more Jenson that said nothing new that I haven't read in every other F1 Racing since he started winning
Lewis wasn't it??
Gotta say the BBC lie, at Silverstone on raceday there was clearly more support for Lewis then Jenson.... Although a massive increase in Brawn fans as opposed to last years Honda fans
Us British fickle and fairweather? Never!!!!!!!!!!
There's a Heikki pic there too, but it's the 'Sorry Amy' type...
Oh that reminds me, I had a big debate after wimbledon with someone...
Isnt tennis just longer and more predictible than F1?
Yes, it's longer, but not necessarily more predictable. Who'd have thought that Federer would need 5 sets to beat Andy Roddick, of all people? Or that Nadal would be sent out of RG by Robin Soderling?
There's nothing of content for the daily news fix F1 fan, if you live in the Mongolian Desert then you may find some of the news recent..........
We're all up to the minute with our news so in fairness to Autosport and F1 racing etc they're irrelevant before they're printed to us.
One thing I must congratulate F1 Racing Australia on, their cover is a little more well rounded than the British one in that it has more than one subject and doesn't scream JENSON twice
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/july-covers-jpg
Plus in a slam there is 7 rounds and theres always an upset
I cheered for Heikki last year when he got pole, should've seen the evils I got from the other Macca fans.....
even with knowing all the news, I normally still really enjoy their feature articles. This time it all felt like every single one of them was rehashed from a recent edition
Before the tournement began i could have told you it would be won by Federer and a williams sister.
RG would be won by Nadal or Fedder
Id say 90% of the matches at Wimbledon i watched I could tell who was going to win, and i was right 90% of the time
If you talked to RG, he'd have you belive the winner of Wimbledon was a huge shock ;)
I guess so, yes, but would it be a crushing win or an absolute marathon? Just because you could guess the winner doesn't mean you can guess how they'd win, right?
- page 1... james allen kindly requests a plug for his blog.
- shuts issue never to return again.
f1r is sadly suffering from the same problem as everyone else. there's is no f1 news, because everything is on hold and fia in their infinite wisdom banned testing.
Yeah, but thats a bit like saying, i know Schumacher is going to win, i just don't know which laps he will have pit stops on...
Even if there were F1 news, I think they'd still be struggling, simply because most outlets provide news and analysis instantaneously.
It bugs me that there is a 'down but not out' Felipe article. I'd swear they've already done that at least once this year.
nothing has changed on that front between last month and this month, yet i read last month's issue.
understood. but there isn't anything to talk about.
the racing is predicable. the rules haven't worked. what happened in the past 4 weeks that could fill an issues of that size?
you'd struggle to fill a postcard right now.
You could say that about the winner of a tournament, maybe, but would anyone have any idea that Roddick, Hewitt, and Haas would have great runs? Or that del Potro would crash out early?
the August issue will be even worse, with a 3 week break between races theres even less to talk about than there was in the July one.
F1 Racing always have good issues for the British GP, no matter what's going on.
You couldn't have paid me $1,000,000 to believe the 2008 Australian Open final would be Djokovic v Tsonga
I'm the same, I love all the behind the scenes stuff.
I wasn't very well yesterday so spent the day cooped up watching the 1996 and 1997 reviews. Kay came in and said the camera work was shockingly bad (it was)...got me thinking i'd like to see how they co-ordinate all the camera's etc
On a seperate note, anybody go to the Renault World Series? I was going to ring up but like an idiot i forgot to take the phone number and once there I thought what can I tell you that you can't see on TV?
Saw Nigel Mansell drive past in a Renault 3.5 etc...took some none motorsport fans up and they really couldn't see the deal with watching it at a track.
Who's Adam Kahn - Renault demonstration driver, i'm usually quite clued up on my drivers but never heard of him.
agreed.
Yes the magazine industry is dying, its mostly because a lot of the senior editors cant see that they need to adapt their product.
You either have it Immediate and online like GP+ or you need to innovate and look at things completly differently.
Putting James Allen in there shows how silly things are, why would you pay for the magazine when you can read his blog daily and for free?
been straightline testing for them this year.
Soooo true. :D
fair point.
You should see my "Federer Fund" money box I made during Arts and Crafts Tuesday at work. :D
http://www.pitflaps.co.uk/index.html
Some light hearted F1 humour
during what??
Drove for A1 Team Pakistan, if I recall.
Well Hewitt i could have picked, but there was so much going on at once, no one told me about Roddick and Haas untill the semis.
I think people complain F1 is boring too much, there are plenty of other sports which are far worse!
Looks like someone's beaten my F1-themed division meeting. :D
at my old job the boys decided that Tuesdays should be arts and crafts day, so they'd make ridiculous things out of materials found around the place which was mostly cardboard boxes, cable ties and paper. I am trying to make the trend take off at my new job because I was oh-so-bored yesterday. :D
Surely this requires a photo?
Camera is charging, but when its done, sure :D
My latest F1F guest post is up, and it's about Quick Nick! :D
Better be kind to my boy Heidfeld!!
I was definitely fair - not sure if I was kind enough, though. Go and take a look. ;)
Me? You are too kind ;)
ah.
Uh-oh...
:D ah, indeed.
You weren't very nice about him really were you, kudos to you though for getting an article published on F1fantatic
You better pray Nick don't know where you live!!
hehe. just found this add-on for gmail:
Back to Beta
Soothes the soul by putting the familiar beta sticker back on the Google Mail logo.
;)
Phew!
I was being fair! Part 2 is nicer, I promise. It comes out tomorrow. :D
I'm a regular guest writer on F1F - I've been doing driver features prior to each race weekend since China. :)
Nice to see they have a sense of humor. :D
have enabled. the world has righted after it's minor wobble.
You actually enabled it? Seriously? Dang.
twas just a click.
i like these add-ons. something we should maybe think about for doohickey:
Addict
Lets you take a break from email and chat by blocking the screen for fifteen minutes and making you invisible in chat.
I know, but even so. ;)
Me too :)
I never realises Heidfelfd was so good.
What a shame Mclaren did'nt hire him and spare us all these years of putting up with Kimi
;)
Is there any way to forward hotmail to gmail, i have tried before and found it insanely complicated.
I would love to change i really would.
In the words of Mika Hakkinen to Ron Dennis (allegedly): "If you want to win, get a Finn." ;)
There should be. Question is, is it free?
does hotmail support imap/pop3? if so, then yes.
actually, yeah it looks like it does and it's free.
you can only forward to hotmail/live address, last time I checked...
hmmm. i don't have a hotmail account, but it looks trivial to send / receive from gmail.
just passed by to say hi. going to work now. bye
I just want to have my hotmail addresses forward to my gmail inbox.
Either that or work out a way for chrome to keep me logged in to hotmail.
Technology sux
send is easy, as gmail only need to check that you own the address. receiving was always the difficult part. I'll try from work
if you already have a gmail account, just try it. it's a 10 second job.
Rubbish!
eh? are you doing this right.
go into gmail and pull from there?
In "POP/IMAP Options" ?
but you'd have to successfully make hotmail's pop work with gmail. is that possible?
YES!!
no. go to:
Settings > Accounts and Import > Add POP3 mail account
I found it
It works, the revolution is here
yay :)
Indeed it does.
Don't forget to check the Back to Beta box :)
I avoid gmail because someone else already has the address I want :(
Yay it does! Now, how to use Gmail???
Where can I find that and why would I do that?
That said, that's odd. Why would Hotmail restrict forwarding when anyone can access it anyway via POP?
Becuase of simpletons like me
Because forwarding puts the onus on them?
Where would i find that?
Hmmm. I guess so. Still, I do find it pretty odd.
It's in the labs section, but I imagine if you don't know why you'd want to, there's little point in doing it.
Don't worry - I had the same problem a long time ago. That's why I abandoned Hotmail altogether - I just keep it as a spare address now.
to make it look like it can't be done.
the is microsoft, this is how they go about business.
but that's why i switched to gmail in the first place. had they not done that, hotmail would probably still be my primary. oh well.
Forgotten attachment detector looks amazing!
Oooh, Gmail Labs looks to have a few nice little things actually..
It's still downloading all my mails from other accounts!
Its a whole new world...
Hows Guybrush?
He's being as awesome as ever. I can't believe how good the new Monkey Island is, wasn't expecting too much but it is ridiculously funny and just as good as the old games. :D
What's your Brazil Name?
Mine is Gavildo but my wife's one is much cooler: Larsinho!
Lukao Santos!
Needs more Rubens.
Ocampinhosa. Right, then...
sidepodcio
Barrichellinho? How confusing
actually...
sidepodcidas
Jenson's is Buttson!
Try Ayrton Senna. It returns Senna. The Senna name speaks for itself. Brilliant. :D
Mr. C returns Ito :)
am liking:

Backstory:
I always have ridiculous amounts of $1 and $2 coins in my wallet and tend to waste them in the vending machine at work, so why not save them for my stupidly expensive Australian Open ticket?
Ingredients:
1x Pringles can, glue, blu-tak, printed photos of tennis, sellotape, scissors, coins.
Method:
cut out pictures,
blu-tak them in position on can, leave a gap that no photo will fill for added style.
wrap sellotape badly around can to seal,

fill with money.
PROFIT
Total contents: $8
Massa's is Massiano!
Brawn just said something big is happening on there website...
New sponsor?
New Colour?
I thought you had glued the lid?
I need to do this, at the moment i just save 1 and 2p coins, and walk around like i am playing christmas carols!
*watches the classic German Grand prixs on the red button* :D
That is a step in the process, but we had no glue at work so that step is technically not done yet :D
I don't see anything new...
I might hypothesise that it hasnt happened yet? ;)
but they said happenING... present progressive tense... ;)
their twitter said coming soon, so I assumed in the next few days
Jakey has been up to allsorts, his new blog is up!
I like this bit...
Question 1. Do EJ and DC actually like each other?
The answer is a resounding yes. They don't just like each other, they've got great respect for each other's achievements in the sport. I believe as TV pundits they have actually raised the bar. I can think of numerous sports programmes where the pundits wouldn't even challenge the viewer let alone each other. I love that there is a bit of spark between the guys. Lots of people ask me if I find it hard having to mediate between them.
The only hard thing is that their little bit of needle makes really compelling viewing and I end up being a viewer just like you. Sometimes I have to stop watching them and remind myself we're live in front of five million people and perhaps I should stop the bickering!
hehe :)
Afternoon.
He must be confusing the word compelling for uncomfortable.
Barrichello's first victory is now on the red button :D:D:D
He was at Wimbledon too? JEALOUS.
His tears on the podium make me well up. I can't help but cry when sports people cry happy tears. Oddly I don't well up when they cry sad tears.
I'm inclined to agree with Jake - it's not as if they dislike each other, it's more that they completely disagree with what the other one says...
If they had a proper argument, that'd be fine. The bickering and ridiculous sniping I can live without.
Was lovely to see him like that so happy by it all, as wierd as that sounds. Pure emotion! :)
indeed. It's certainly not the BBC way of doing things!
I forgot Nelson piquet Jr was leading the German GP for a while last year... scary times.
Loving Jake's story on Take That at Wembley. :D
Lou, Lukeh, how would you feel if Jake Humphrey suddenly approached you at a concert? He's like finding a familiar item in a sea of unfamiliarity...
I'd love to talk to Jakey, he seems like a really nice guy. Although it'd be a little surreal being at a concert and then him saying hello and talking F1 to you because of your cap! :P
I wonder if he'd ask why my cap was a Rubens cap? Considering the amount of people who seemed to think I was deaf over the Goodwood weekend pointing it out when standing behind me...
I know - I'd be startled! Hehe. :D
Lots of Jenson in the entertainment pages, though. I didn't know he was interviewed in GQ...
Is it the duracell one?
No, the normal Brawn one, obviously with Rubens on the back and his helmet/number on the side.
Cricket F1 Collisions should happen more often...
Oh look they do! http://en.redbulletin.com/articles/england_v_australia_part_one/
Cricket vs F1 at a game of table football :D
Hmmm... to attend, or not to attend tonight's quiz? Hmmm...
I love it.
Hey everybody.
Good evening...
Oh yeah, won't be quizzing it tonight. Got things to take care of...
Should I be worried that Gmail thinks that mail from my parents is marked as spam?
Gmail gets better and better!
:D
Now if google could buy skype...
Hey Mr. C, I'm having Nachos for dinner :D
hi everyone
not sure if this has been mentioned already.....FOTA walking out.....again...
I guess theres a race on again this weekend ?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76777
You know when F1 is returning after a break because there's stupid news to have to put up with :(
Goodness me. That's just great.
So now what?
I'm guessing Max will use this to say 'How can I leave a sport when the teams aren'tresponsible enough to talk to us?' or something, try and get it over his side a bit. Although I wanna know what FOTA's problem was.
me too .....like watching Torchwood tonight....lol
Joe has an idea:

Although i'm sick of the saga i kinda don't blame FOTA
I was boring someone last week saying I bet this isn't over and the 3 new teams + the two fairweather teams (Williams and F.I are deserters lol) will defo wanna say in the regulations.
For me I understand these 3 teams need some stability etc but to have a vote and say on a championship they've never even been in yet is out of order. If they could only compete on the minimum budget of £40mill I doubt they'd last long.....
Why on earth was Prodrive turned down?? This is all political rubbish again.
Checked in, window seats
23hr 45mins to go
Woo hoo
ooo where you off to BC ????
Day 1 of boat build finished...
It looks AMAZING
pictures to follow
Woohoo!
FOTA reply....http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=38357
FOTA teams told they are not entered in 2010 and therefore have no voting rights etc.....
omg
http://www.teamsassociation.org/press-release/2009-07-08/press-release
how the heck does that make sense?? either all 13 are entered, or all 13 are not entered.
Oh for god sake.
Montreal for the weekend :)
At last someone has pulled the FIA up for not following their own rules or saying one thing then doing the opposite. If nothing else this nonsense shows that the much vaunted agreement was built on sand. I will never understand how FOTA capitulated based on a verbal agreement with Max and Bernie when written agreements mean nothing to them.
#Ari in
Are we hash tagging comments now?
What the hell is going on now!
FOTA teams are not entered into the 2010 season now?
They never were
With a comments filter, perhaps we should be. ;)
But aren't they on the entry list along with all the other teams?
So F1 2010 currently looks like
Williams
Force India
Campos
Manor
USF1.
Williams World Champions then?
Mr C objects to maxout tags so I thought I would try something different. Sneaky huh?
They are on the official WMSC approved entry list.
with what engine??
Yeah but with *'s next to their name
:D
They were on the official list. Read their press release
It looks like we won't know for sure until around March :(
Poor Fernando Alonso - he doesn't even know what he'll be racing in... ;)
If they're in the 2010 entry list - sounds like it will have to be Cosworth.
He will be racing a Renault unless he takes the Toyota offer
Toyota?! It's Ferrari or Renault for Alonso, I think.
Also, looking at the reports of the new teams essentially being told that No Cosworth engines, no 2010 entry.
Only provisionally - they entered with conditions.
oh lovely...sounds great !
btw hi. stupid BT
According to Autosport a few weeks ago Toyota are desperate to sign him but he is holding out for an offer from Ferrari. Ferrari will stick with their current drivers as they did last year.
So why allow them to draft rules they can't vote on?
It's the FIA way!
The summer of 1995 tells me they'll bet the farm on Alonso.
Broadband issues?
Ferrari, that is.
After the meeting with Max, Bernie and Luca the WMSC announced the list of teams that were entered and the 8 FOTA teams were on the list. Regardless of what actually happened accoring to the official FIA channel their entries were made and accepted.
it's known as "how to dismantle your sport in less than 6 months".
You do know there's no GP there anymore? ;)
This is Max starting to throw his weight about. FOTA capitulated so now he is creating a crisis as the basis of his election campaign.
But with Vatanen around, that strategy might actually backfire on Max, as they might decide to blame him...
Jean Todt is not at Ferrari any more and Alonso does not have a team to take with him.
We have to hope but it has always worked in the past.
Sadly yes, but I intend on a track visit anyway.
Wonder if I get to snap any Marmots
[No Christine, I won't bring one home ;) ]
For the second day running it just died on me, requiring a router unplug and plug in. Of course then it took 10 minutes for everything to start working again because while it found a connection, Firefox refused to connect to anything.
But taking Michael's team along wasn't the original plan - that only happened when Schumi and John Barnard couldn't get along.
I'm hoping this is different - Max actually has a proper opponent challenging him.
interesting. did not know that.
Me neither
yup - john barnard mentioned it in one of the schumi books i have here...
It wasn't me. I know nothing about Gilles Villeneuve
How do you even know I was referring to Gilles? ;)
I am sure it was planned from the start.
Damn you are too clever for me
Okay, while the FIA continue to play silly idiots here's one to lighten the mood. Remember Mike Lawrence's article about the Scotch Men? Well, he's written a new article about Bernie which features the delightful quote "Sometimes, Bernie, the best policy is to say nothing. Saying nothing beats dealing in racial stereotypes." (bottom half of page 4)
You couldn't make it up could you?
James Allen also said it in "The Edge of Greatness"
When Schumi joined Ferrari, the Italians built the engines and the English built the chassis - they had all sorts of QC issues with things like gearboxes so it was decided to bring in Brawn and Byrne - who brought the whole team to Maranello.
Apparently this was too late to change Barnard's 1997 design and Byrne had a lot of trouble figuring out the philosophy of it - he could not understand the weight distributions and things like that...
Why have i found pictures of Nigel Mansell driving a World Series car?!?
i'm not even going to look!
It's typical libellous rubbish I'm afraid...
:D
That's actually even more detail than what I have here, but it sounds right to me.
We are in trouble when that moron is claiming the moral high ground
Maybe he's learned his lesson? ;:-/
If not, pot, meet kettle. ;)
It's his sons car
aha, just spotted the G. Mansell on the side!
G for gargantuan?
What are the FIA on? Yesterday FOTA were told they couldn't decide the rules without the non-members agreement. Today, only the non-members have a say!
Parting shot:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76778
"Sources suggest that F1 owners CVC are furious with the latest development, which has cast a cloud over the future of the sport just a few weeks after peace had broken out."
Interesting, that. Night, everyone.
Night
It's just Max creating a crisis. I'ts tired, it's lame and its' old just like him
I've just read the book so it's very fresh in my mind.
First quote from Eddie Irvine:
Second quote from Ross Brawn:
You know, it's funny after reading yesterday's comments about Villeneuve how he had such an easy run towards the 1997 title and yet fluffed it so much it came down to the last race where he had to chase down and beat Schumi... Hardly the mark of a worthy champion :(
Max is playing a dangerous game. He may think FOTA will run out of time to set up a rival series but he's running out of time to replace them.
night Journeyer ! sleep well.
are they not just tiny bit upset that their no#1 representative said he liked hitler?
So to recap, we are back where we started before the teams threatened to breakaway aren't we? Nothing has been achieved and nothing has changed!
there are three new teams named for 2010. although there's a distinct possibility that their selection may contravene all manner of EU competition laws.
actually, things have changed.
we're several more months down the line, and significantly more fed up with f1.
Aren't the FIA already breaking a few of them already, by both controlling who enters, making the regulations, enforcing the regulation and being their own appeals process?
I don't think there are tams to replace them. FOTA should have just committed to the breakaway and had no further discussions with the FIA. The FIA could not have a pu a championship on and FOTA would have had the monopoly,
Hear Bloody Hear.
I'm still mad that Lola and Prodrive were denied entry. The three that were chosen are just sops to Max...
Clearly that doesn't bother them as much as the current problem
Even I don't believe there will be a breakaway now. FOTA screwed up.
It's funny, coz this time last year I was so into F1 and really enjoying the championship ... yet right now, I'm not even bothered that I'll miss qualy on Saturday.
My wife tried to arrange a dinner on Friday, but when the people suggested Saturday I said we should change the day. My wife asked me later "but don't you want to see the F1?" and I said "You know what, I'm not that bothered really..."
I'm debating spending this weekend clearing out the new office. I just can't be bothered with all this crap again.
Then again - I could go and do something fun.
saturday is the only good bit though?
friday i'm not fussed about, and sunday's cool... well because of... umm, the parade lap.
I'd kill to see qualifying :(
But I can watch it later and not worry too much. I'll probably end up blogging while the race is on TBH...
Ditto
But if CVC are indeed miffed, they can decide to move all their contracts to a FOTA breakaway. Effectively, F1 without the FIA.
Or more probably, they're angling for a way to get Ari voted in.
In true Steven Roy fashion, I am not here.
Is it though? What's so great about qualifying?
I blame the biofuel. It's been since they introduced biofuel to F1. Bernie can't tell the difference between the Nurburgring GP and the Nuremberg Rally. Max can't remember which teams are in F1 next year and which aren't. And Flavio IS a loonie.
tis the only excitement in f1 at the moment (unless you're listening to legard of course).
:D :D
Well I hope you read the quotes I dug out for you ;)
sidepodspace update
The official countdown for Saturday night's shuttle launch starts at 10pm Eastern tonight at T-43 hours.
Curently the forecast says there is a 40% chance of acceptable weather for the launch.
I did. Pretty good, they are, too. :D
Hey all! i'm so pleased to be home. how is everyone?
i've just checked autosport.... not what i needed to hear after the busy day i have had. i think the best solution is just to bury my head in a load of photos...
Qualifying was ruined as soon as Max came up with the insanity of qualifying with race fuel. Proper qualifying was great but the modern lottery for me just isn't.
i very good plan.
i still love the races :D which is good because i don't get to see quali this weekend...
a very plan.
i plan nothing.
oh shoot me.
TBH, it's not that exciting though is it? Each session starts very quietly, then there's a mad rush in the last few seconds while everyone puts in a lap time, while the TV director focuses on the wrong car and the commentators have no idea what is happening. Then in Q3, we have no idea who was actually fastest because of the fuel fing (but at least that gives me something to blog about!)
awww. long day mr c?
I am gooood, i started building my boat today :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/18-jpg
Hi Lou.
we should just boycott the weekend.
Naaah. We'll just let your chair eat you instead.
Thanks - glad you liked them. You should read that book BTW ... it's brilliant!
its all making this years championship rather futile imo....I'd planned on going to Monza but with all the uncertainty I've kept putting off booking...guess I'll wait to see what next season brings now.....no wonder some teams aren't throwing their energies and resources in trying to turn their cars around for this season....
I am still obsessed despite the best efforts of Bernie and Max.
You're building a floating coffin?
Last time I wanted to do that, a certain chirpy German ruined that plan!
fair enough.
There's 2 - one for Max and one for Bernie?
Can we put them on floating pyres and buuuuuurn them? :D
Pretty much.
Those hulls (when they are finished) will be full of bottles, and then connected together!! Then add a mast, make the sail from a tarp, add a rudder! Sorted
Same. They can shove their Bernie and Maxness up a place where the sun don't shine for all I care as long as there's something worth watching.
well i for one still love f1 like i used to, so i'll just comment my way through the race on my own :P
YES! Please.
awwwww!
:D wohoo! oh i've just seen Jeremy's song in drop.io... it's very sweet :)
I guess the difference is, last year I was so mad because I gave a damn, yet now I'm just not that bothered really!
......despite what I say I know I'll still watch it....
how come i can't find it??
it's not really that bad is it? i mean ignoring the politics we could still have a great race....
That looks like a very enthusiastic yes. What would you do with your weekend if not F1
Hmm, not convinced
It's called memo
Plus Rubens will win this weekend. I know because I woke up and thought it was Monday earlier.
it's here.
Perhaps. I admire your optimism.
I have a list.
well there is only one way to find out... watch the race!! :P
theres a topic on its own......"What would you do with your weekend if not F1 ?"
I've found it is the key to successful enjoyment of this season.
Do you really want to do the things on your list though?
heheheh. ta.
i'm always optimistic towards f1... seeing as my team used to suck. but i mean i see it as if f1 is rubbish next year i should try and treasure every waking moment of racing and brawn's success this year.
Absolutely. Otherwise they wouldn't be on the list.
*shudder* i hate non f1 weekends :( i always end up feeling like there is something missing.
How many of the things on your list are SPC related?
I have two lists. One SPC and one not.
practice more live stuff.
there is world of improvement to make to live shows. it just needs an investment of time and energy.
i just have post it notes... lots and lots of post its..
Well there is the hypothetical space shuttle launch. Those are usually good for a few wasted hours before they get scrubbed.
:)
So what you need is to do shows with no content so that you can sort out all the new stuff you want to do and if there is a race it just clutters the show up with too much content.
bingo!
pretty much what we did on sunday in fact...
I have a list in my head. I say 'list', more a jumbled collection of things I sometimes remember I need to do.
I'm opting for concrete :-(
i enjoyed sunday's 'show'. very relaxed and enjoyable
You want to bury Lou's head in concrete. That isn't very friendly
concrete would hurt though.. at least my photos are still f1 related :D hehe
:P
i'll need to watch that back at some point then..
I thought it was relaxing too. Didn't need to make a list of show titles and had a one sided skype conversation.
less watching, more turning on and listening whilst doing something else. its very relaxing..ish
Really not.
so what you lot are saying is you prefer the shows that aren't relevant to f1?
We played an F1 game.
oh why? i watch/ listen to every show you guys do... would be a shame to stop doing that now...
ahhh cool! :D
It wasn't a show.
ah well ;)
I can see the logic to Jon's suggestion of having it on whilst your doing something else. But don't make a special effort. It's two hours of hmm, ahh, check 1-2-3, is Skype working, cover the camera while Mr C walks past. Very useful for us but I don't expect very entertaining.
well i'm editing photos all evening, i have plenty of time! :D
So it was good that I watched Top Gear while you did it then?
Depends on your opinion of Top Gear!! :)
depends if you like top gear...
Enjoy.
Beat ya!
I would've took the show of nothingness over TG this week; thought Sunday's show was the worst for a LONG time.
you can type and not look. no fair!
Funnily enough, my opinion of Top Gear closely resembles F1:
"Used to be really good, but too much fighting and bickering and too many similar races are starting to make it a bit boring!"
oooo i still need to iplayer top gear. why was it bad out of interest?
after last weeks one (which was possibly my favourite one ever) any would be rubbish
It was actually quite fun although I couldn't explain why.
Maybe it was the high of goodwood making me think it was just a disappointing show, I dunno. It wasn't as interesting as usual and the only thing worth watching about it is the brilliant, brilliant Michael McIntyre of course :)
Asides from him, just seems a very drab hour :(
it was interesting that we weren't allowed to go live until tennis finished, but carried on right through TG without even thinking about it.
Hmm. I missed it 'cos I was elsewhere ;-) but intend to watch the repeat on BBC2 in 5 mins.
I'm a bit behind, and I just saw the arctic one. After reading a brilliant book about Arctic explorers the way TG bumbled through and didn't take it seriosly just annoyed me!
I haven't een bothered watching Top Gear on the iplayer. It was interesting that almost no-one left to watch it.
We coulda gone live earlier, but it would have just been me going: "Oh for god's sake, deuce again??"
I still haven't seen last weeks. The tennis made it start early or the timings were late or something so it missed hte first 15 minutes
I was out having a boogie. :D
For those who might like the idea: http://twitter.com/search?q=#f1happyplace
So you're blaming it on that now?
I very much like this idea.
Hehe :)
;)
Nope - blaming it on the Jive Aces. :D
I (heart) Christine

I hope the kids of today know who Pob is... Or my last tweet is just weird ;)

umm..
:D
P..o...b.. Pob.

Joe is sending out an SOS http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/07/08/·-·-·-—-—-—-·-·-·/
Puhhh Ohhh Buh
awesome!
and I wrote one only to hit send with only the hashtag
Was worth the wait though
It is a very good post!
i agree wholeheartedly. with you and with joe.
Quiz time
The last few sentences are perfection.
You are on fire with your tweets tonight!
Alex started it.
Forgot to say hi, so, erm, hi :)
Very stressful day at work today. Had a guy crabbing out at me for 25 minutes on the phone because I said we couldn't make his handset a priority repair. Let's just call him a moron since what I actually called after I'd finished the call's not suitable for here. :P
Oh that's right blame... oh yes that's a good thing ;)
hi.
ahaha i'm listening to sunday's rehearsal. Christine trying to sh the skype lady is funny :D
Has anyone ever been to Pageant of Power at Cholmondeley?
Only just heard of it a few seconds ago on another website.
ha :-)
Ha! :-)
I just happen to be in Cheshire the same weekend and trying to decide whether it will be worth going to drool over some Bugattis. I think, yes.
http://www.cpop.co.uk/
cooool!
and only £15.00?
I have officially launched the FIA Nut campaign. If you're annoyed/angry/insert-negative-emotion-here at the FIA, please send them some nuts to get that emotion out of your system and encourage them to remove Max Mosley.
can someone pass on a message to Mav please .. I have mailed quiz questions I can't get into PF chat
it broke for me too
oh so its not just me then
In fact I can't get on to PF at all
MAV!!
or do you mean via email?
neither can I, I got kicked out
heehehehe:
"Gareth Rees confirmed in expert's chair for GP2 on British Eurosport... We're getting the band back together and we're on a Mission from God"
Sorry, I thought I was the only one who couldn't get in, my computer has been a twit since I got home
Just refreshed and got "failed to connect".
Looks like a fun weekend
Oh hello all btw :D
You have to love the Blues Brothers. Put it on your list Christine. You have to see it.
I can't get in either, do you think Max has shut us down for telling him where to go?
Will do.
LOL it appears to be up and running again
It works now
That will give you lots of song ideas. The thing is you can't just watch it once. You become addicted to it
certainly does... such a shame it's miles and miles away for me though.
Very true
£25 for paddock access, much bargainess I think
Also, Blues Brothers is legendary
Currently watching the extended edition on DVD. :D
Who was complaining about the lack of events in the North of England last week?
I can't wait to read Christine's blog entry for the Blues Brothers.
:)
Max will probably find a way to turn a tidy profit out of them
Bernie is buying shares in nuts as we speak
Has anyone read the Watchmen graphic novels at all? Not really a blog entry that may be too popular but just thought I'd hace a try and write up f1 politics as if it were through the words of the Rorschach character...
Not sure if it's a little too negative to be sharing but eh, might as well. He is a negative character afterall ;)
Does anyone know how the fuel use figures in the f1 yearbook are calculated?
Nope it doesn't say how, it just gives them and there are none for the Nurburgring since it wasn't held last year
Alianora included some in her Fuel Fing: 2.330 KG/lap and 0.039s/lap...
From the ecu??
#f1sadplace?
oooo i like the describe an f1 character in 3 words game :D i also like that Mr C didn't say anything mean about Jenson :)
No, only happy place allowed!
*blames the watchmen soundtrack*
:P
surely that would just be #f1
??
There is a wiki page full of them
I got the fuel per lap at 2.4? fro Williams F1 but don't have a value for the cost per lap.
ooooh!! :D
Well Alianora said she got hers from the F1 yearbook. I would assume these are 2007 figures?
Probably .. I only have this years yearbook that gives the 2008 figures
This is a tweet from Murray_Walker:
About to head to the airport - I've been in LA for Michael Jackson's memorial. "You Are Not Alone" was always my pre-commentary listen. RIP.
Eh???
Feel free to add you own!
Let me guess: "Jenson - I love him!" ;)
Erm...not sure what to say to that...
John Button - *squeal* *squeal* *squeal*
Do you reckon that's the real Murray Walker, I don't
That has to be a wind up
8, Place de la Concorde?
If you look at his other tweets I think it's a fake...
ssshhh!! they don't need to know that i squealed constantly for ages, and that because of it 'team button' probably think i was a little mental....
hehe
or...
Jenson - mineminemine
Probably worth mentioning the quiz plans for next week here too?
Please do...
Today's was cancelled due to website issues. So the plan for next week is a big quiz with double the questions, for a prize
MrC can I do a bit of self promotion or Mav promotion?
Evening
My beautiful computer can get online again :D
go for it.
(i'm not here btw)
Thank you :D
I just wanted to highlight Mav's latest blog post .. he's having a bit of a personal rant about the FIA and the recent goings on. I know I'm biased, but I think its cool and worth a read. http://tinyurl.com/mealo6
erm.. no. course not ;)
a-ha. i believe that post may also feature in tomorrows daily thread.
recommended.
i'm not!
You don't have to ask, Jackie.
i think i'm imagining comments...
Read Richard Hammond's "As You Do" and you'll find they took it very seriously indeed.
Thanks Christine :) I always like to make sure it's okay first, don't want you thinking I take you for granted.
Oooooh omnibus!!
Where?
itunes. I've not listened to any of the mini series. That's my next job!
I'm sorry to say that I haven't yet either *blush* the latest five are always downloaded to my ipod so I will catch up by the weekend.
:D
no rush. the mini-series are timeless ;)
I have that book. Haven't read it yet though. I just got the feeling they made it look like a bit of a joke or something...
Clarkson and May maybe, but hammond not so much, you have to seriously fit to go on a dog sled like he did.
I think they may have thought it would be a bit of a jolly at first..until they hit hte ice fields
I'm reading "To the End of the Earth" by Tom Avery. He's trying to see if a bloke called Peary really could have got to the Geographic North Pole in 37 days - it's a good read!
It's a very good post!
Jon was right the show made for great listening while doing other things :)
It is a good analysis - the last few days have left me feeling that FOTA should NOW simply cut the ties with Max and do their own thing. If they can get Lola, Prodrive, Epsilon Euskadi and N.technology on board with them they will have most of the public support for an F1-like series. I do feel sorry for Willimas F1 though that this could be their demise -caught contracted to a dead-end series.
I may print screen...
you've been right before surely?
yeah but its not often other people admit it too ;)
What's happened now? I thought all was well(ish...)
OK. I'm uninstalling photoshop.
It was until today. Then the FIA decided the 8 FOTA teams had not properly entered the championship despite the WMSC announcing that they had. There was a meeting to discuss next year's rules and the FIA decided as they hadn't entered they were not entitled to vote on the rules. So FOTA walked out of the meeting.
ahhhh i see :D
wha?? why?
NOOOOOOOO! :(
For God's sake. How ridiculous!!
I've spent nearly 4 hours on it this evening messing about and i kinda feel like im wasting my time now with it. it's starting bugging me how much time I spend using it and wasting my time... :(
That's Max for you
But we love your work :(
aw..but it's not wasted time, you always come up with amazing things! i've been spending the whole evening on photoshop too.. still not 1/2 way through my g/w photos yet..
Quite right. Try this instead
http://www.xtranormal.com/
Nobody could have NOT taken that expedition to the North Pole seriously. The logistics involved must have been staggering and very real dangers and unknowns. As far as Richard Hammond with the husky-sledge - that would have been hugely challenging and took lots of bravery.
In reality they did not actually reach the North Pole - not even Magnetic North Pole - just the point where Magnetic North was in 1996 - you see it moves around quite a bit. It was still an awesome achievement by all including the BBC for producing such a programme.
I think I'll just try and leave it for a while, delete the desktop shortcut and hdie it away because I'll still need it for photos anyways. Am just a litle annoyed at myself for the amount of time I mess about on it :(
It's very silly I know... I doubt i'll get rid of it anyways (have installation disk on shelf) but i just have this very stupid moments with stuff like that...
try lightroom for photos? it doesn't have layers, might be a new challenge.
you do know that photoshop people get paid quite a bit though, right?
That's not always true...
Yeah... although I'd still do it for fun rather than money. I enjoy mssing about on it but for me it's like pringles, but not as tasty - once you pop, you just cant stop. I could just make stuff on it for hours and not realise the time...
if you're good at photoshop and don't get paid very much... you need a better agent.
is it not better to waste hours being creative, than say, playing video games?
Or you work in the printing trade...
I've got something of a craving to make car liveries on it again.. The netkar stuff was easy to do on it. Wonder if rFactor is the same..
unless you are being creative in video games? you can make some kickass stuff in Rollercoaster Tycoon
doesn't the print trade use acrobat (and maybe indesign)?
I suppose so but it doesn't help I have an exam resit next week and it's C++ once again :P
i (heart) that game
true. i'll give you that.
ahhh. but the photoshop down lukeh.
Also true... but the majority of stuff is done in photoshop first...
You just gotta say, Lukeh, we are good at shooing people.
not talented photoshop though. that's more "anyone can do that" photoshop. hence the reflection in pay. no?
Done listening to your mini series. Great job guys, thanks!!
(as always :))
all credit to christine. i done nothing.
Oh no! good luck with that
are you here now, or am i still imagining you? ;)
The person I am thinking of went on two years of Photoshop courses!
thanks :)
the results gave me one of those d'oh moments; did the horrible many weeks portfolio of work fine with an A, managed to mess up the easy in class assesment by overcomplicating my work. Typical!
fair enough. am just saying lukeh could do worse than PS.
nope. been away all evening.
Courses don't always equal talent.
ahh right. nice to know my imagination is still working alright then :D
also true. i'd also say if would depend on how intense those 2 years were.
full time, that is an insane amount of time to spend on one app. but if it was an hour a week... you're not going to get very far.
I agree. I mean I can make stuff look better in Photoshop, but I need a decent picture to start. Lukeh on the other hand can work magic :)
True, but they would know more than the "anyone can do that" brigade. There are plenty of people out there who can work on photoshop now, so it's not as well paid as it used to be!
that isn't quite true either though. i know good people earning good money doing just PS. i met someone earlier today in fact.
you went outside?
relax. i met the person indoors.
he could be outside right now... all we know is he isn't here :)
I can do original stuff in photoshop - but it takes too long compared to a professional graphic artist. We used to employ such a guy, but these days there is less emphasis on the graphics in web-design so do it my self.
Being good in Photoshop is really about both experience and imagination and should be well rewarded financially (but sadly not in SA!).
true.
phew!
OK then. Clearly we have two very different examples here. Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in the middle...?
hehe :D
And that's why it isn't as well paid as it used to be - most companies DIY...
In our part of the world even top developers in flash graphics and animation are still rather poorly paid.
I just have a lot of patience with it because i do really massively enjoy using it and i'll annoyingly admit im a perfectionist, if it doesnt look right i'll simply delete it and start again, plus it's always nice being given any opportunity to throw out a bit of creativitty into the laps of others via that means, was the same with school with my art stuff but i shallnt go into that here.
It's probably a little selfish to say 'I dont know why i should be complemented for doing stuff thats just in my mind' but i dunno... it's honest how I feel about it all. Hopefully people like what I do and it means a lot to me when people do. Plus working with a job doing stuff on photoshop would be amazing. I just get annoyed at myself sometimes for spending too much time with it is all when there's more important matters on hand ie. this flippin' exam.
Yes and some websites it rather shows! I just finished doing our new linuxMint desktops and you realise what a pain it is to design for so many different screen sizes.
You should go for it - you have the talent, just don't take any photoshop job else you'll end up retouching bank adverts until 2am because you got a last minute job from a customer...
My problem is that I know what I have in my mind but to get it right in the layers of a photoshop - I get perfectionsit and it takes too long.
Lukeh, i have a question for you. who was the young guy you pointed out in the Williams garage... who apparently was famous/ a driver? i can't remember his name.
oh maybe i should add, this was at goodwood...
Sam Bird?
the stats i'm looking at say average income for photoshop artists in uk has increased by £9,000 in the past 5 years.
why do you think people are worse off now?
the very man himself! :)
Because I'm not thinking of the UK, am I ;)
but would not the economic down-turn have some impact on these stats?
You're not using facts to back up an argument are you? This is Sidepodcast!
Eurgh eurgh eurgh! The air con is broken at work and it's been that hot, it's given me spots! It's horrible.....
ahh that's it! thanks! am going to find out some more about him. he is a formula 3 or some series driver isn't he?
correct
euro series
cool! thanks.
Yep, F3 and he used to drive for Manor Motorsport if I'm remembering rightly. Possibly a seat for him next year I'm wondering?
We played his F3 game. I think it was something to to with BP
yes it does.
demand has increased in the past 4 months by 2%, and the increase in pay has leveled off since the start of the year.
no decrease though, and no-one is worse off.
he's sponsored by BP Ultimate
That makes sense then
If you want to catch up on today's news read James Allens Not a mere trifle in the Eiffel - http://jamesallenonf1.com/
Interesting - it is more volatile here - so advertising cutbacks have been significant. We are already gearing up to training for the government sector based on a range of "Open Source" solutions.
Oh for goodness sake. Why are the FOTA teams not entered exactly?
Only Max knows that
they're smelly.
(allegedly)
I'm sorely tempted to forget this and follow the Tour.....
FOTA will respond with 'I know you are but what am I?', I'm sure of it
do it, i do love a bit of cycling
Why did the FIA only award new entry to teams if they used Cosworth Engines. I think some very serious issues are going to be knocking on FIA's doors - they seem blatantly corrupt.
I'm glad you like it Lou. It was meant to help you get to sleep on the night before Goodwood.
I'm tempted to talk about bats and balls. But them someone might mention cricket.
awww :)
Oh that's brilliant sir!
The people from Skins have waisted 24 minutes of my life, i want them back.
ALL of them
This game? http://www.juggernart.com/games/free-online-racing-games/bp-ultimate-racing.html
what's wrong with skins?/ what did they do?
www.itv.com has got ITV4's daily one-hour update show streamable, presumably UK-only though. Today I watched Sunday and Monday's stages, tomorrow I'll catch Tues/Weds (which I have on DVR instead). I haven't seen the Tour for four years, and I've missed it.
i can deal with it usually.
but this episode im watching is total and utter rubbish
It's like you were never away - Lance (almost) in yellow. That man is......a robot?
I answered you yesterday, but clearly you were too busy workin or sumfin... boo hoo hoo :P
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/07/07/daily-7th-july-2009/#comment-382400
BTW they are available for 31 days after broadcast, so if you want to get up to speed from the start - do it! It started Saturday with an individual time trial around Monaco.
ohh, series 3? i didn't like the new characters much..
however, i take that all back. the annoying kid just got a bottle smashed on his head by Gareth from the office.
my life is complete
He's one reason I'm watching again.
They always have been blatantly corrupt. YOu have the 2005 deal with Ferrari where they get paid more than any other team and get a veto on any technology they don't like.
You have Max saying at the vote of confidence saying if he won he would not stand again. He has changed his mind so many times I am surprised he hasn't screwed himself into the floor.
He said that he had to win the vote because he was the only person who could re-negotiate the commercial rights deal. Of course that was a lie because he disqualified himself from the original negotiations on the grounds of conflict of interest. And of course despite it being vital that he won to re-negotitate the deal no re-negotiation has happened.
You have Donnelly whose company is somehow involved with Manor and who removed Ferrari from their customer list just before his FIA position was announced. He is supposed to work with the stewards but isn't a steward but in SPa last year he did the driver interviews but the three stewards signed all the paper work.
In the aftermath of that you had Charlie Whiting being proved to have blatantly lied at the international court of appeal but no action was taken against him by either the ICA or the FIA.
The organisation is corrupt from top to bottom.
soz. i have the attention span of a fish. i looked on the first page of drop.io and couldn't see it so gave up.
Good man. :D
Massively overpriced *even though I have bought a copy....*
I still use Paint Shop Pro more than Photoshop.
Just one last word from me on it... Sunday was fairly routine but Monday was really interesting, very enjoyable.
That looks like the F3 game we played
...and so we are back to the question of whether FOTA will bother to stay with them. Great. 3 weeks wasted. Lucky Wimbledon was on!
O.O looking at the five live tweets... is it just Ant Davidson?
they just linked to - http://twitpic.com/9q65k
Geolocked :(
It's on TV lots here though - BIG interest because of Team Saxo (Danish?)
and holly.
tis
so... i mean are they doing the tweeting?
Don't like tennis so I ignored it - but the Tour is also on for 3 weeks so that'll be a nice distraction :-)
Yep
"Just got to pull over as Crofty has to do a report on 5 Live "
am guessing producer jason is driving and tweeting (although not at the same time)?
And then there's the cricket of course.
the what?
ahh sorry, i hadn't seen that tweet. sounds about right though.
Corrupt? Perhaps not entirely.
Certainty not squeaky clean though.
Perhaps a bit more corrupt than the members of parliament. ;)
actually, looks like they're in two cars? another guess:
- holly and ant in the porsche?
- jason and croftie in whatever the black thing is?
The trying to look like I'm doing work while following BBC live text updates.
is this Jason the producer?
i give up. this is a pic of jason and holly. maybe they're all tweeting?
yup.
i think they are trying to confuse us.
just tweeted exactly that :)
Just reading Joe's blog.
Does Steven Roy know the chassis number of Theodore F1 cars?
"2 cars, Crofty and Ant in 1, Holly and Producer Jason in the other... Thats it, thats our team..."
Oh no, what am I going to do on Friday? Will they have one text feed for F1 and one for cricket?
I have offered them a suitable alternative to their cars.
awesome! :) that makes sense, i'm loving their twit pic updates too :)
Don't worry - game should be pretty much over by then.
No. Never got into the trainspoting aspects of motor racing
Just checking. Apparently you're not an anorak then.
did lukeh just offer to swap a porche for a pack of rollo's?
Hah :-)
That's a reference to something isn't it - I'm desperately trying to remember what it is
They are obviously taking their team to discuss such a wild offer
i'm not sure, i appear to be having a conversation with my imagination atm so maybe i'm not the best person to ask? :P
oops.
hehehehe.
Their time, even...
Shame I don't meet the standard. Never mind.
Are you hearing voices?
I am not sure who does - but in case you want to wear an anorak here is a link...
http://www.statsf1.com/default.aspx?from=/constructeurs/modeles/liste.aspx?idConstructeur=96&LG=4
apparently so.
Hehe! Why am I not surprised someone came up with that info...
There is a cure for it. In the filter box at the top of the doohickey type -me and you won't hear them ever again.
It's OK. You need to worry if they start suggesting you go outside.
i kinda like the voices though... sometimes they are funny...
okay, i'll alert the comments if they do ;)
has lou been drinking that pink drink again?
Those are only model numbers. Every individual car has a chassis number and there are people who keep logs of every time a chassis runs. They can tell you the chassis number of the car that Ronnie Peterson drove in the first practise session for the 1973 British GP
milkshake?
the one that you and christine like ;)
calpol?
It was only a link to start the search! Did not say it was the answer!
:D
no, i've not had any alchohol since monday (that sounds bad... it was just pimms and then rose... at our year's head master's formal dinner)
i seriously used to love that when i was a kid
Is calpol actually useful when ill? I just remember it being pink and yummy!
I would rather drink calpol that the unnamed energy drink
hmmm milkshake...
I think Mr C goes outside all the time. He owns a car and has a job. It's all a conspiracy to keep us inside so we won't run into him in the street and know what he looks like. He has even refused to come to Australia citing some rubbish about time and money etc. I know you've been on a boat Mr C. I've seen pictures...
aslong as you dont know exactly how many hours it is since your last drink then all is fine
i do. mine that is, not lou's.
The school is serving alcohol to 17 year olds???
:P
He is not likely to go on another boat after what happened the last time.
a group of us may have erm... got our parents to get the pimms for us, and then had some of the rose that was on the dinner table. however the teachers said nothing. probably because our parents were there...
haha :)
There's a picture of Mr C? But I was convinced he's just a really clever auto-answering program!
I believe in a restaurant it is legal to serve it to 16 year olds if they accompanied by an adult. Presumably this was covered in the same way.
really clever?
;)
Pimms. Now there's a 17 year olds' drink.
with food, and only certain types
OK, sometimes partially convincing.
my hand.
Certain types of food or certain types of 16 year old? You don't want the chavs doing it obviously.
Mr Pibb? Stick it in the fridge, Stick it in the fridge, Stick it in the fridge...
(American Dad reference)
aha pimms is nice :)
Sure. Your hand.
scroll down....
what do you find....a comment...
hmmm
Time to go I think. Night. *waves*
night lukeh
see ya.
hehe. i stand by my "fia's got talent" reality tv suggestion.

:D "fia's got a sense of humor?"
I'd best get ready for work. See you all soon. I'm sure I'll come back to comments like "Oh, what an awesome G Love song" :P
Bye to those leaving.
I've discovered the "Upload to YouTube" function in Picasa...
time for me to get some sleep. night all x
Good thing I skipped it then. Ooooh - a prize! I'll do my best to get it. :D
'Illinois Nazis.I hate Illinois Nazis':D Where's a bridge with Bernie and Max when you really want one:D
So F1 2010 currently looks like {Comment #330}
It doesn't even look like that. If the entry list is invalid sufficient to make Ferrari no longer in the championship (i.e. contractual obligations and explicit agreements no longer suffice to be entered), then technically no teams at all are entered for 2010. Unless the FIA opens up the selection process again, then there will be no F1 in 2010 because there will be no teams in the championship - at all. Lots of court cases, but that's not quite the same thing...
Okay, while the FIA continue to play silly idiots here’s one to lighten the mood. Remember Mike Lawrence’s article about the Scotch Men? Well, he’s written a new article about Bernie which features the delightful quote “Sometimes, Bernie, the best policy is to say nothing. Saying nothing beats dealing in racial stereotypes.” (bottom half of page 4) {Comment #370}
Is this an oblique apology from Mike, written to avoid the "climbdown" of apologising properly?
there are three new teams named for 2010. although there’s a distinct possibility that their selection may contravene all manner of EU competition laws {Comment #391}
If the FIA tries letting them in without letting the FOTA teams in, then it will have broken even more laws (commercial bias confirmed plus breach of contractual obligations).
Surely they already did that in the past with Ferrari
The FIA put on its list that Ferrari and both Red Bull teams were unconditional entrants - so how can they say ALL EIGHT FOTA teams "are not currently entered into the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship". FOTA cannot negotiate with FIA because everything agreed upon gets reversed. The FIA through Max has to be in deep trouble, somebody now must take legal action against FIA for the numerous breaches of governance and EU law. CVC must be extremely nervous at the moment.
Alia, do you know where the F1 Yearbook gets it's fuel figures from?
actually, things have changed.
we’re several more months down the line, and significantly more fed up with f1. {Comment #392}
And we're down to no teams in F1 next year instead of 10. Plus a viable replacement for Max Mosley has arrived, which hopefully will stem the tide of ridiculous decisions from the FIA.
Alia, do you know where the F1 Yearbook gets it’s fuel figures from? {Comment #809}
To be honest? No. It appears to be original research on their part, but I couldn't even tell you if they've received telemetry from somewhere, had information given to them by teams or done an estimate. The figures seem to work very well though, apart from the Ferraris. Three of the four Ferrari-engined cars have significantly worse fuel consumption than the F1Y figure suggests.
theres a topic on its own……”What would you do with your weekend if not F1 ?” {Comment #449}
That I don't already do in a weekend? Probably play a lot more Sims 2...
Nope it doesn’t say how, it just gives them and there are none for the Nurburgring since it wasn’t held last year {Comment #560}
The 2007 one has the figures, though of course they are two years out of date and have been slightly adjusted accordingly. The Suzuka figures are slightly-adjusted 2006 ones for the same reason.
