My calendar tells me that it is Neil Denham's birthday today, so happy birthday to Neil. I hope you're celebrating it appropriately - cake and presents. Here at Sidepodcast Towers, it is the calm before the storm. Or maybe the storm before the storm. We are scurrying around making sure everything is ready for the season to begin. We're getting there. Anyway, here are some links for you:
- I was a little bit told off yesterday for not featuring the Mexico rally in either of my daily posts so far. The rally has been going on since Friday, and I'm now giving it a well-deserved shout out. Kimi has been struggling, I think, although I must admit I've not been following it as well as I should. I know Mr C is rooting for Kimi as he has him in his Fantasy Racers team.
- Meanwhile, if you are gearing up for the season ahead then it's worthwhile reading Jake Humphrey's post. He is super excited for the racing to get going, although he seems to be a bit at odds with himself. Sometimes he's saying he misses F1 so much, and in the next sentence saying it's five minutes since he was in Abu Dhabi. Well, Jake, it will be five minutes and you'll be in Bahrain. Woo!
- Finally, I didn't mention this yesterday, as there's no way I would have remembered such a thing, but it was the anniversary of the creation of Brawn GP. Lou has written a fabulous post about the event and why we should recognise it, and I am just sorry I missed out on putting this in the correct daily!
Anyway, that will do it for now. We're back to our regular size daily for today. I will see you in the comments.
Hello new daily
Hello Sunday and happy birthday Neil!
Happy Birthday Neil!
Hi Sunday. Have a good one Neil!
Bit of a Nokia Ovi store (app store) fail - it asks me to create an account so that I can download apps to my phone and there's a Captcha code to verify it... but it doesn't load the code, so I can't register.
This weekend is disappearing fast
On a slightly (very) unrelated note. I'm playing online curling, and it only gives you 2 ends. I won one, the computer won one....so now neither of us wins. hmpf
Happy Birthday Neil!
Thank you for the plug in the daily Christine :)
I take it you are very bored then.
more than is humanely possible
I found an online curling game years ago but I have no idea where but it let you choose how many ends you played
Happy Birthday Neil
Christine...the link to Lou's post is broken. You've got a rogue " at the end of the hyperlink it would seem...
Have just been in and fixed a bunch of stuff. Should be okay now.
Right, I'm off to bed, big game in the morning so catch you then. lotsa love.
good luck, night.
good luck! night rg
Night RG. Good luck
Night RG
Thank you Lou :-) I have left you a note on your blog...
have replied :)
right, time for me to get some sleep. busy day tomorrow. night all! xx
Night!
adios!
Night Lou
Yay! My backup has finished so I can finally go to bed. Comment with you all later
Night Janna
night
I want to go shopping but they are predicting more rain and hail today and I don't want to get stuck in a storm like yesterdays :(
I can't help but feel that I have heard the I want to go shopping but I don't want to go out line before
http://www.tesco.com/ delivers...
no this time I actually want to! Theres a great sale on so the perfect time to spend my vouchers from work. But I don't want to get stuck in this.
The callout fee to Melbourne is probably quite high.
I'm pooped. Bed for me.
G'Night all!
Just like a normal Scottish summer. Get out there
Night Adie
night!
:D
happy birthday neil
Hello all
hi ya joe. how are ya?
Hi Joe
Have a cool buzz going
will not be running a half marathon tommorrow
considering searching the internet for a USF1 t-shirt, just for the hell of it
Also a little giddy that we are down to less than a week
I don't think they had the sense to put out merchandise. They should have done that immediately the team was announced to generate a buzz
A few weeks ago, I found some "vendors" that were selling USF1 shirts, I'm sure illegally, but what does it matter now?
Just found Jake doing an hour long program on last season on the iplayer. Never heard of the program before. All about Jenson unsurprisingly
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00nxc1c/Formula_1_2009_Jenson_Buttons_Glorious_Season/
Shame they were not running the team since they seem to have some commercial acumen
Good call. I emailed the team and said, "Let's get some t-shirts going, I'd find it inspirational on my runs". Never heard back from them. I doubt we'll see them again
They are dreaming if they think they will get a 2011 entry
i have left the house!
How very brave of you
:)
ooh, i didn't realise google buzz includes the ability to comment on posts:
http://www.google.com/buzz/sidepodcast/Q6tadvFxuX2/Established-Teams-Only
must try and keep on top of that.
i just got a $349 coat for free. Shopping success!
what?
a combination of it was already marked down + one day 30% off sale + $25 voucher from that store + vouchers from work :D
ahh, phew. i thought you'd just nicked it :)
You must be a fast runner
ahhh!
:)
:D I still have $125 in vouchers to spend but shopping in that store overwhelms me with too much choice so I had to go home :D
I went out again to the supermarket and just got home and it's sooo about to storm again. Well timed, Amy *pats self on back*
Channel 4 has an F1 thing on called "The Grid"....
Ahhh... it's a general motorsports round-up as they've moved onto NASCAR....
Now it's RALLYING!!....
Morning everyone :)
evening!
Just read The F1 Weekend for the first time, and I have to say hats of to Adie for his brilliant work. The Twitter feature was well written, and I have to say a lot of it made sense (even if I do detest it!).
I will be reading again in the future, and I also thought the final guest article from RG was compelling. Keep writing!
morning. Ah, the sun shines bright at 7 o'clock...
It is now officially 7 days to go! :P
Weekend needs an 'er'. Sorry, Adie! :)
evening :)
What's everyone up to?
Personally I am preparing for this afternoon's radio show!
My computer just froze!! Grrrr... It's gonna have to restart again (in the next century...)
What letter are you on? G isn't it?
I am watching Talkin' About Your Generation again. No Ronan Keating this week though.
Yup G today
oh and I am also uploading alllll my bsb videos to youtube to create an epic playlist for my couple of friends who wanted to be there but couldn't.
was the gig good?
so good I'm even going to blog about it!
see I'm going g mad already
blimey!
We are going out for breakfast this morning. Not a seemingly very common thing in the UK. At least not as common as I know it is in the states. Always seems like the height of luxury.
its my favourite meal to eat in places other than my house :D
We all confuse the Red Bull and Toro Rosso from time to time, and it seems The Sun have also got confused: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/motorsport/2881431/Meet-the-2010-Formula-One-teams.html?offset=3
:)
Good morning everyone!!
good morning
How are everyone on this rather nice Sunday morning?
Morning all.
morning
how are you this morning christine? :)
Very good. Busy, busy. The weekends aren't long enough! :)
How are you?
Mooorning :D
This I agree with, the weekend needs an extra day :D
that sounds familiar
Thank you Christine for the birthday wishes, gave me quite a start when I logged in this morning, I was not expecting that!!!
Thanks to RG, Jon, Pat, Lou, Steven and Me as well, I read loads of the site although I don't post very much you all feel like familiar friends!
Happy birthday!! Do you have cake?
Morning everyone, hope all is well. Happy birthday Neil :)
I had a cake from work yesterday that still needs finishing, not sure if there are any more cakes planned!
As long as there was some cake, that's acceptable :)
Morning Mr Lukeh, how goes it?
Also just had a fried breakfast, yum
Not too bad thank you. I have to finish my assignment today as it's in for tomorrow, but 2 weeks off work has got me in a good mood to get it done :)
Ooh, what's it about?
System process methodologies... studying several different ways in which you can approach the planning of software when developing something. It wouldn't be so bad if your lecturer demanded we only use journals, but I know everyone has used at least one book as a reference so I think we're all starting to give in as is he :)
Gosh, it sounds complicated.
It is a bit annoying. Plus it has to be written as a conference paper so it's super duperly formal. I think he's just trying to chuck in as much preperation and practise as he can before we hand in our dissertation next month. Let's not get started on that... :)
Although that meeting for an assignment I had to go to on Thursday has convinced me that the assignment related to that is bigger than my dissertation... which is quite terrifying... creating a multinational database for a website to act as a senior citizen's version of facebook for a European company and them actually using our ideas/results = quite scary.
morning all .
Morning :) how are you?
i'm good. printing out the last images for my portfolio as i type. Just need to mount them and then i'm all prepared.
yay! :)
By the way, did we all know Timo is on Twitter? I assume it's the real Timo anyways http://twitter.com/realtimoglock
ooo, well his twitpic looks encouraging.. - http://twitpic.com/photos/realTimoGlock
I'm convinced :)
his facebook was linked to on @virginracing and theres an update on the facebook page about the twitter so I'm going to go with legit :D
hii Amy! i feel like i haven't spoken to you in a bit. how are you?
RGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
I have eaten too much sugar and I feel a bit sick but other than that, fantastical! How are you?
:D
I got to sleep at 4.30am and woke up at 10.
I want to die.
yay for you being 'fantastical' :) I'm good. got my first Uni interview on tuesday, but i have to travel down their tomorrow. lots of travelling and nervousness ahead in the next few days i think.
I have this bad habit of adding 'ical' onto words that don't need it. I blame the backstreet boys for it.
you'll be great! interviews are as much about you seeing them as them seeing you, just be yourself and you'll be fine.
you got an interview because on paper you're what they want, so you're already half way there!
and good luck for your interviews! I am so glad uni in NZ is super easy to get into, I couldn't have taken the stress!
could be worse, you could be lukeh and make up words ;)
Woo! at last more drivers are using twittter. although i think i know which ones never will :D
Uni interviews aren't as bad or anything as you might imagine. In fact I'd say they turn out to be a lot less informal than anything, more of a chat as to what you want from the course. You will be fantastic :)
Hey Jon
i'm not sure if this will make you feel any better but in exactly 7 days we'll be watching Jake walking and talking.. and seeing the team being all awesome in preparation for the first 2010 grand prix
story of my life
oh.
hoorah. i just got a facebook invite about it, seems course peoples going to meet up and watch it together! i've never watched f1 not on my own before!!
Why? You appear to have had an acceptable amount of sleep?
:) i think because it's my top choice and my first interview that makes it a bit more scary.
i had to send them that mini project too. so i'm hoping they already kinda like me.. :)
Not for me! I've been really ill and totally exhausted.
uni's get thousands of applications, if they didnt already want you, you wouldnt have an interview!
Awwww I did that the other day actually. Woke up on my day off at stupid o'clock for no reason and spent the rest of the day shattered.
NZ and Aus seem to have the right idea about alot of things. I've heard driving tests are nicer too.
:D
It started last week with my v.v.v.v.busy week, and then i stopped and it all caught up with me, and ive spent the last 2 days in bed and hoped that id be over the worst of it, and then last night happened..boo
NZ have just decided to put the minimum driving age up to 16 instead of 15, but our licensing system is still a lot slacker than everywhere else. Here in Australia you can't get a full license til 21, I had mine at 16 and a half.
and a chat about my work...i'm hoping Falmouth is as clear and sunny as Kent is, cause i think it will look stunning!
I was totally surprised at how un-apprentice like the interview process is!
Right, gotta run. If i'm not back in 3 hours, i've fallen asleep!
You obviously didn't do interviews at medical school then!
*hearts* cornwall. Such a beautiful part of the UK.
wow!! #ishouldbelivinginNZ :)
Falmouth always looks stunning such a nice part of the world!
i originally had a vision of it being really really formal. Then my other arty friends who have had their interviews reminded me that i'm going for an interview at Falmouth for photography... not Cambridge for history or anything like that :D
we do have to do two practical tests though, I'm not sure if you guys do.
No we have one theory test and one practical. You can start to learn at 17.
no, although i think it's going to change come september though. We'll have one practical for manoeuvres and one for just general driving. #needstopassbythen
Eurgh!!
Booo, stupid DVLA. Anyways you'll have passed by then ;)
Just sounds like a money spinning exercise.... I bet waiting times are gonna be awful! I had to wait over 8 weeks to do my test when I wanted to.
A provisional license alone is something like £55 now as well. I can't help but think Mr Ecclestone is involved in the DVLA somehow ;)
a practical test atm is something like £66 :s
Yeeeeeesh. That's gone up even from when I did mine last summer!
I won't tell you how much it cost when I got mine, it makes me feel old!
For Christine... we thought Bruno Senna being able to play games and cycle was cool.. but Timo is cycling and playing mario kart...
Timo > Bruno
#pointsneeded?
That is awesome! Pressing buttons is all and good Bruno but timo is steering!
it's odd to think I once accepted an F1 that did not have these insights into the drivers lives. Technology rules.
This proves my hope that Mario Kart is a learning fool for the paddock :D
*learning tool, even.
:D hehe
Cooool.
i'm desperately trying to find something that will get JB points.. the most i can come up with is the fact he did some taxi driving in sandwich, but that was for an advert so :(
I returneth - just had a wonderful bike ride around Victoria Park. Feeling nice and relaxed now.
:)
Yay! Seems like the UK is getting really lovely weather today. Damn this assignment holding me in :(
If I were you, I'd take my vengeance against SkyGods and the Worldwide Weather Administrator
An MFC Ping: http://mediafuturechange.com/2010/03/07/a-conversation-with-leo-and-mr-c/
the sky is incredibly blue here, it's almost like spring! i love it, it makes me very happy and motivated.
I am hard to please :)
speaking of MFC you did a lovely job of fixing the spelling of Louis but you missed the link at the bottom :D
Yep - know that.
I'm doing one post for the site today and then I'm going back out to wander around London for a while
Ta.
well.. Jenson hasn't really been doing anything cool like riding a bike and playing a game, or making funny comments in videos.lol :D
Hmmm...
I lack of anything really way out in the current guys non F1 interests...(I would say that wouldn't I)...
I'd be more surprised if they didn't play games and cycle....
Probably the most way out was the guy who was a banker (Yes, with a "b").....and I think he's actually banking and not driving this year!....
BIG thank you for Christine adding a bit about Mexico in her daily intro...
Thanks Christine...
I swear I read he filmed something for sport relief this week.. don't quote me on that though, I may be going mad
ah it was an older thing, not done this week.
i can't wait to see how they introduce the brawn filming he did in Abu Dhabi :D hehe
actually wouldn't mind going karting today.... i can't drive and could do with planting my foot down
:)
For my next trick I shall disappear to get this assignment finished... ;)
See you all later.
see you later
Afternoon all.
hello
RG. we have some news for you.. :)
how was your match btw?
Hello, everyone. :)
I may have already found out... ;)
Got beat 3-1, shoulda won it.
Hey Leigh and Journeyer.
oh. lol
woot
Hello :)
Did Nick show you his picture?
Ooooh. Nope. Tell me more.
mr c, did you see that lukeh found Timo on twitter? another driver for your awesome list :)
oooh ooh oooh
Sandra Bullock's speech from last nights Razzie Awards for worst actress - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adYced7GB8k
I'm not allowed. He took a picture for you. He was very drunk though so he's probably forgotton..... I'll try and remind him :)
ooooh. yay, lukeh. added.
That was sooo funny... you've got to love Sandra Bullock...
Hadn't known that there was this film about stalking though...
Hmmm...
Has anyone been both the Best and the Worst Actress in the same year? She might pull that off tonight...
yeah - good on her I say!!
:D
No, but I think Halle Berry got Worst Actress one year after being Best Actress
Monster's Ball > Catwoman
No wait - that's wrong....
She also accepted her award, IIRC. I like actors/actresses who accept their own Razzies. :)
Yep
Especially because Berry's speech was a parody of her Oscar winning one too
Anyone have any ideas why my internet speed would suddenly be through the floor. To the point where it's almost unusable.... I have no bandwidth restrictions on my package.
Have you called your provider to ask if they have any interruptions/network issues?
No. I can't imagine anyone here working on a sunday though :P
No concept of 24/7 support over there?
have you tried restarting your modem and router?
Oh yeah there'll be some stupid helpline. I meant the maintenance!
Ahhh. That's true. :)
Nick said this is for you Journeyer. God only knows why he won't post it himself though http://twitgoo.com/fxtp0
NICE! :D There's a lot of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Dubai. How did he find Filipino food?
"Handaan Catering" = "Feast Catering".
You posted it on his account, BTW?
Noooooo he just sent me a link on Skype. He's obviously been lurking though!!
Ahh. :) Indeed so. Thanks, Lurker Nick!
Im sitting in the middle of the office... im trying to procrastinate subtly!
:D
They are dreaming if they think they will get a 2011 entry {Comment #49}
Dreaming is something that Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson are good at...
Channel 4 has an F1 thing on called "The Grid".... {Comment #63}
I was rather underwhelmed by their season preview. I learned nothing new and wished I'd done what Dad did and stay in bed...
It started last year. It's sponsored by another oil company (not the one that does RANKINGS). It's... meh. Was one and done with it.
and that is why 4od was invented :D
its the same with British Formula Ford and British F3 and British GT's. 30 minute program (great!) but at 7.30 on a Saturday morning....no thanks
My calendar tells me that it is Neil Denham's birthday today, so happy birthday to Neil {Original entry}
Happy birthday, Neil!
It started last year. It's sponsored by another oil company (not the one that does RANKINGS). It's... meh. Was one and done with it. {Comment #219}
I found it OK for trying to increase my awareness of what other series were up to, apart from the very early timeslot. I'd expected a better preview though, for all that I realised it wouldn't spend much time on F1. Casual viewers would have learned practically nothing and sensed none of the excitement and anyone who'd been following long enough to make sense of what was being said would certainly not have been informed!
My Students Union are on twitter....nothing wrong with that, appeal to the masses etc. They are @buckssu
However...they just tweeted the following
"Follow @BucksSU on Twitter you know it makes sense! http://twitter.com/buckssu"
So they're telling me who's following, to follow them.....
hmm
Hmmm....
I went to Bucks - graduated in 2008. What are you at Jon?
It had one serious thing going for it in my view...
But that's nothing more than predictable....
What am i at? Do you mean what am i studying?
Motorsport
How are everyone on this rather nice Sunday morning? {Comment #88}
I'm fine, thank you. Basically relaxing with the computer and slightly annoyed that Radio Le Mans have prioritised a NASCAR race over LMS testing coverage (yes, I'm sure more people are interested in the NASCAR race, but still...)
Sweet - hope it's all going well
:)
i'd be surprised if more RLM listeners are interested in Nascar than LMS
what did you do?
I finished off doing Music Industry Management in Bucks after studying in Dublin for years on end...
cool!
They've started out in Mexico...
Seb slower than the following guys but he does have a big lead...
aggghhh - can't look
haven't seen day 1 or 2 yet
got my first Uni interview on tuesday, but i have to travel down their tomorrow. lots of travelling and nervousness ahead in the next few days i think. {Comment #120}
Basically, these interviews are there to establish the following:
1) You are who you say you are and not a fraudster or liar (extremely easy)
2) You appear to know what you're talking about (if your comments here are anything to go by, also extremely easy)
3) Whether you're likely to drop out through complete ignorance of what the course entails and/or complete inability to carry out basic academic social interactions (pretty easy - the bar is set very low for courses that don't require that exact subject at A level and aren't at Oxford or Cambridge)
4) What your portfolio looks like, since they've requested it (this clues them in to your capabilities and precise interests - unis can't offer a course above their stated maximum, but frequently reduce their requirements for talented students, down to and sometimes including unconditional offers)
5) What exactly you're interested in, over and above what is obvious from your portfolio (so that they give you an offer of not only the right programme, but also the right module advice and personal tutor when/if you join them - the latter is frequently someone who has achieved something notable and/or has a research interest in the parts of the course that interest you most)
6) Whether you have/know/think anything that might improve their offer to you that doesn't conveniently fit on a UCAS form (this can be as tangible as an additional piece of project work that can't be taken to interview or as intangible as enthusiasm for the subject area/university/learning in general - or as obscure as handling a random question well)
7) If they think they might strike lucky, what future career path you wish to pursue (again, to ensure the right programme offer, module advice and personal tutor)
As you can see, the interview is more about figuring out how you'll fit into their course requirements than if you're suitable. While there is definite competition for most university courses, it's nowhere near as intense as the job market and talent usually does win out.
Afternoon everyone :)
Now I'm going to get on with prepping for the radio show. I have been distracted... As some of you may know I have been annoyed by wordpress and finding no suitible alternatives I have spent since Friday evening making my very own blogging platform...
If you'd like to try and brake it for me please go ahead :)
http://aaserver.co.uk/
yaaaaaay
did it work they way you expected?
totally. :D
i had to send them that mini project too. so i'm hoping they already kinda like me.. :) {Comment #131}
If they're asking for extra stuff, that is a very good sign. Bad candidates are generally flushed out of the system with the minimum fuss possible. Getting a request for more information before the interview even happens implies that their main questions are "How low an offer can I get away with making?" and "Who will most want to take on this student in the capacity of tutor?" (I can testify to the latter because there'd apparently been quite a few people wanting to be my personal tutor at uni due to my entry profile and "informal chat" results).
Awesome :)
ss 19: Ogier has overtaken Petter and is now second. Loeb leads by lots of time :)
Alex, have commented which worked OK. When I commented on the Wicked post it showed me all of the comments from both posts and then reverted to the comments for that post only when I came out of the comments and went back in. (Not entirely sure I've explained that very well)
oooh! i thought that was my mind playing tricks.
+1 #sorryalex
got you...
Looking like Ogier's decision to go for 3rd yesterday....
Jari Matti now realises how the set up has been wrong... a tad late on this subject... but a relief to Ford apparently...
Question to anyone who know about this sort of thing...
In a media centre, how does the 'my laptop not being stolen' thing work? I've got one of those things that attaches your computer to something sturdy, is that what most media types do?
Will Jari Matti have to slow down to let Hirvonen past soon...
But Mikko has just put a big dent in his car...
I've fixed that now I think (you may have to refresh to make it work)
Thanks you two :)
You can tell Mikko is a experienced rally driver. He damaged his car on his co-driver's side :)
Don't think anyone's beaten 6 rolls yet though....
:)
Not too sure what's happened to Wilson today.... he's way off the pace....
Did so, commented, all better now
Isn't he always?
he is? Not more than usual though? Henning is a bit far behind compared to yesterday
merci :)
I'm not in media but we have security cables at work and use them with all of our laptops. I usually attach it to the leg of the table I'm working on so that someone would have to cut it to take the laptop away
I think I'm going to take the cable thingy that i have with me, seems the safest option.
So, when will we get quoting, live commenting etc? *runs*
Well live commenting is almost ready as it goes... tonight possibly...
I'm going to be a bit careful with HTML for a bit.
A provisional license alone is something like £55 now as well. I can't help but think Mr Ecclestone is involved in the DVLA somehow ;) {Comment #153}
A pre-provisional test for those who need one is £95 for those who need them - I think Bernie must be involved :(
The Feeder Series is back after a bit of a hiatus;
Motorsport and Media : http://www.feederseries.net/?p=714
hehehe. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81901
funny stories are funny.
Chandhok "We'll probably be off the mark in the first four races but from Catalunya, Spain, we will prove a challenge. You never know, we could also bag some points late in the season."
hehe
just read as:
"we'll probably be an hour off the pace"
and i nodded.
By the way (to both of you) blindingly awesome MFC post. Loved it.
i likes being interviewed!
Can anyone recommend good PC speakers? Mine are very old & buzz a lot when they are on. I'm not looking for concert acoustics, just functional, value for money, easy to plug in speakers that will fit on my computer desk.
i liked it too. i like hearing people who know what they're talking about*
*so many jokes, so little time ;)
Mr C did you see why I was distracted?
ahh, cool. will look in a bit. am busy coding... a blogging platform :)
Poo...
Jari Matti has slowed on that stage to let Mikko through for 4th...
Wordpress does do somethings shocking badly, but when it comes to faking when you've published a post....its perfect :D
As part of an assignment I have to do a blog and so can change the dates so its a bit less obvious ive done it all in the last week. Really helps with re-ordering them too!
:)
Its quite an interesting assignment actually. I'm comparing the marketing communications between the Triathlon Show (a public show) and The Event Production Show (trade show), how and why they are different.
Has anyone mentioned Franck Montagny's doing ALMS this year yet (I've just heard it on Radio Le Mans), or have I forgotten some previous conversation about this?
Loeb wins...
No surprises there...
But less than a second between Petter and Ogier and waiting for their last run...
C'mon Oggi!
What order do they run the last SS in?
It's run as head to heads and I am waiting to find out...
Henning v Jari Matti now...
Jari Matti has 5th and Henning 6th...
Sordo versus ??...
I think Federico...
Looks like Ogier will be against Petter head to head...
Great call if so...
Block and Wilson...
We want Ogier and Solberg... they are building the tension....
Block is good at understatement....
He just clipped the rock yesterday...
Seems a nice guy though...
Oooo....
Petter second...
He's on the bonnet and jumping off it....
A very happy Petter....
AWESOME. :D
Petter's best result in... ages!
*sulks*
Always next time, good for my FR team still
Just about to interview Petter and they lost satellite radio....
Grrr....
Petter has always been prone to a bit of celebration. I am sure youtube will have his celebrations after he won his championship. No-one really celebrates like him.
As I had both Petter and Ogier, it would have been good either way. But Petter really needed this. :)
Kimi??....
This rally coverage is sooo funny, someone stood in front of the dish... got to be the funniest thing ever...
The interviewer just came on and said.. "You didn't miss that did you?"....
They need some help here guys....
Live timing is rather up the spout too...
But HURRAH they are talking about Jordan and I will be there...
I can't wait....
i just noticed Heikki live commented some of the rally on twitter :) hehehe aww
I think he is just trying to get points in Christine's rankings
I forgot to keep an eye today... I saw him yesterday , or was it Friday....
WRC done, as is Giggle Radio. But... ooh, NASCAR is on.
Dave is covering the rally now...
Will they have the end too??...
I think its split into two parts.
Don't forget tonight's #WRC #RallyMexico show on @Join_Dave is in TWO PARTS cos of time difference... 6-6.30 then 10.35-11.05
Off to bed for me.
Night, folks! :)
night journeyer
Night!
Thanks Kathi....
Night sir.
adios
night journeyer
For anyone who missed it earlier, The Feeder Series is back (not that it ever went away) with Motorsport and Media, go read, comment http://www.feederseries.net/?p=714

jon, I have some problems with the podcast feed. If I use the one that is given in the subscribe page (http://www.feederseries.net/?feed=rss2) I get only two entries, Ep. 6 and Autosport p.1, and the second fails to download. If I use the old feed (http://feed.podcastmachine.com/podcasts/1778/mp3.rss), I get all episodes up to number 6, but no Autosport. Should I stay with the second feed or it is already discontinued?
ah ok, so the main one is just for posts generally, the second is for podcasts only. the podcast one is the one i sent into itunes, the main one will have podcasts and posts added to them as i do them.
so....if you want all the podcasts now, use hte old one, if you dont care about the older ones (not that important) use the newer one.
as for autosport, that shouldnt be included anyway, its not a podcast, its chats from the show which should be part of the post but not included in the feed. if thats makes sense
?
Good evening.
ah, ok. yes it makes sense. then can I suggest you to also include the second feed in the 'how to subscribe' page for non-iTunes readers, something like 'all articles' for the first and 'podcast-only' for the second. I don't go through iTunes and got confused by that bit (having the old already in my podcast reader)
evening pat
yup, shall do that. thanks!
Blimey. Even we only plug our own stuff a couple of times.
I've only plugged it twice :/
oooh. 3
Apologies for being UKcentric but am watching the F1 2010 preview on the red button. Jake, Legard, EJ, Martin & DC having a chat. No real consensus which makes for an interesting discussion. Hopefully it will be on the BBC site at some point.
I believe live updating on my site is now working:
http://aaserver.co.uk/
Not quite as slick as Mr C's it doesn't pause when you're writing yet... but it's there. It's similar to the way the New Ye Olde Comments works.
if you want to test it that would be very handy for me
hey everyone
Just back in - NASCAR on the stream - nice to see JPM running 2nd at the mo
:)
It appears to be posting my comments twice :)
Mine came up twice too
I refreshed & it went back to one
(From here on in, I will post every time an ad break comes on during the NASCAR race - I will therefore be very busy)
Ad break!!
Aussie V8s at Bahrain on SpeedTV! (14:00-16:00)
now??
[Ad break]
By the way, Dale Earnhardt Jr is a truly dreadful actor
Thats 5 minutes! They've had an Ad break every 5 minutes? thats impressive
Fixed that problem now too... Thanks guys
Yep.
Not even a safety car - that's during green flag!! Now there's a safety car...
[and again - Ad break]
what the hell...?
is F1 this bad?
Never had to sit through a Speed Broadcast of F1 yet. As much as I think Bob Varsha is great, I could forsee myself putting my fist through the TV whenever Peter Windsor spoke
...then again Windsor won't be there anymore, so that problem is solved.
[Ad break]
4 breaks in 30 minutes - that's impressive... I may have to stop this before I get angry
Jaime in the mix :)

Evening all!
I'm just watching the Aussue V8's from earlier today on Motors TV UK at the minute
*falls into doohickey*
Well that assignment is as finished as it will ever be...
[another ad break]
Nice to Toyota running a tonne of "I love my Toyota" adverts
Take it that one didn't write itself then?
It's a bad sign when the safety car comes out and I can't figure out why...
[ad break]
Seriously about to lose my cool
Oh goodness. Nowhere near. That was a nasty, nasty assignment. But it's done.
Not in NASCAR
Congrats :)
Hello Lukeh, glad you finished your assignment.
Off to bed, another week at work stretches ahead, only 18 working days to go.
Comment with you all tomorrow.
true - got to love these "debris" cautions
Night Janna :)
And the tired old "Jacques Débris" jokes that usually go along with it.
Ah well it's out of the way now so you won't have to worry about trying to do it again.
night janna
Night janna
Bye Janna :)
byee
Well. That Fantasy Racers roll call was fun.
night
:-)
how many teams?
:D
Can;t wait!
I have been introduced to this excellent clip this evening. This guy needs to be singing national anthems at F1 events or something.
I am also slightly suspicious he is actually Petrov.
do we get any outtakes? :)
[ad break]
Ladies and gentlemen - 60 minutes and 9 ad breaks and still 90 laps to go... I've had enough
:D
Just noticed the Fantasy rally scores have updated. Seems fair to say my team had a bad day
Ohhhhh yes.
Wow look at some of those scores! Huge
I would just like to say I officially love Oggi, the Solberg brothers, Sordo and Wilson.
6th, the best position for me in anything :)
woooohhoooo!!!! :)
I was just looking at that as well. Apart from Sordo my team had a rather good day :)
I have a feeling I may be apologising to you soon...
238 in our league and 6448 overall. We are about 400 teams down on last year so far so I guess a lot of people either haven't signed up yet or have not entered our league.
oooohh, goodness... am watching the f1 season review... and it's near the end, talking about the Brazillian GP. Why am i so emotional this evening. i feel very silly, it was months ago...
Space stuff on BBC2
but we are less than a week from the next... that's why ;-)
Indeed you might!
I posted a link last night to an iplayer program that Jake did with a lot of Jenson in it reviewing last season. Also has about a minute of Rob
agreed
24th overall!!
So which teams had the hardest to say?
#blame...uh...bl..uhoh.
:)
that's the programme i'm watching :) the bbc f1 review..
also.. the bit with Rob, which is like 27mins in, does anyone know the music in the background? it's from a film i can't remember...
Nooo, I got to 27 minutes, and I was met with unhapy rubens :(
Although that bit has killed my bandwidth....
ooh. my bad. hand on i'll check the exact time.
it starts 30.48 when Rob starts talking.. i have never been able to find out what this piece of music is...
My net has suddenly picked up again so I'll take a look :)
It's from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack. lemme find the song name.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcErVmcJPT8
There you go :) the famous violin bit start later on in the song
The song is composed/written by Craig Armstrong, I forgot to say. I'm not sure if it's still called Balcony Scene when it's credited to him but I'd imagine so.
Awesome, text tweets are history :)
Gravity app for my Nokia is now on board
I use Gravity on my Nokia 5800. It's very, very good.
I have to leave for a couple of hours. see you!
Bye Guille
See ya later mate.
Bye Guille
Evening
Evening folks
Am gutted that I missed Giggles Radio, how was it?
Have been finalising travel plans. Off to Cape Town next Friday. Need to find a suitable venue to watch the race
Where's Rich?
don't ask :(
did ya tweet him?
Good when it happened, but had alot of initial issues
It was a bit more Giggles Radio Lite because of technical issues for poor alex :(
Everyone in this NASCAR is blowing their tyres, yet I can't see anyone commenting about it after the race... By the way, I'm up to about 16 adverts in 1 hour 40 minutes
Have been quite off and on of Twitter this weekend, will do so tonight, now I'm home
It was like time travel. Went two hours in 40 minutes
I suppose it's a big learning experience. When it's all sorted, there'll be no stopping him
But there is another G show next week to use up all the music that didn't get used this week along with a few audience suggestions
How long are the adverts? Been flicking in and out of the race...
I noticed a lot of them, but wasn't counting.
He has also written his own live commenting system
http://aaserver.co.uk/?post=2
I think perhaps he was a bit busy with his new live commenting thing, so the technical problems kinda threw him.
Just one of the reason's why I don't watch
Surprised no one in the UK has picked up the rights though
Evening Adie and Bassano
What? :)
That Mr C! And they call me a bad influence ;)
They have - Open Access on sky (Channel 190) have it.
It has appeared on a Sky channel called 'Open Access 3' with little sign of how it is being funded.
Ah ok
Don't have Sky but have no need for NASCAR coverage either, was just curious
Has the 'G' thread been deleted? I was going to leave suggestions.
don't look at me.
they vary between 2-3 minutes - loving the viagra adverts in a supposedly "family" broadcast
:)
he's doing it again next week, so yeah.
Don't think so
Righto. I'm not sure if suggestions are being taken, of course.
don't forget the grand prix saboteurs competition closes this tuesday, if you haven't already entered:
http://sidepodcast.com/2010/02/23/win-a-signed-copy-of-the-grand-prix-saboteurs/
Thank you!
I haven't entered because I already have the book and it is so good I want someone who has never read it to win and read it.
ooh, fair point. we have lots and lots of entries.
I am pleased there are a lot of entries. I was worried you were plugging due to lack of entries
I had hopes of winning until you said that.
I'm saving it for my trip
It's the taking part that counts!
Dammit.....
Yellow flag with 3 laps left for an insane crash - Montoya misses the win
:(
just plugging cause it'll close soon.
promise no more "over 18 competitions" for a while :)
Again?!
ahh, can he not do it on the green/white?
(pretends to have a clue)
Car flipped on its roof and hit the wall
he has a good car this year. an oval win will come, surely?
I really, really hope it never happens, but one day they are seriously going to take a bunch of spectators
:(
I miss Montoya. "No idea.. heeheehee..."
Not yet - they should have three chances at a G/W/C
I found it was not the kind of book I could just sit and read. Most books I read from start to finish in very few sessions but I found that reading a chapter or less than a chapter of this one and thinking about it for a day before I read on worked best. Especially after the war starts.
Hope I haven't given anything away by saying there is a war.
#nospoilers
90s stuff
Echobelly - Great Things (or you could have Go Away which I like too)
Silver Sun - Golden Skin
R.E.M. - The Great Beyond
newer stuff
Dananananakroyd - The Greater Than Symbol And The Hash (could be a bit loud)
My Latest Novel - The Greatest Shakedown
What the hell?? Taken out by a guy 156 laps down.... you gotta be kidding me
Yep - a GWC with 5 laps to run - this will be a comedy smash again
:D I think I'll cope
I don't to read much more than a chapter at a time these days
Love that track
:)
is there a link. i may need to watch?
http://www.justin.tv/slapnut_v5
I've only just put it on
am there.
http://channelsurfing.net/watch-nascar-sprint-cup-series.html
So Monty's 8th?
huh?
Twitter chatter says Carl Edwards may have intentionally hit Brad Keselowski, which sent Brad flying (literally).
NASCAR has parked Edwards.
yep - they all pitted for tyres for the sprint and JPM lost big time
Jeez!
damn.
someone say "payback"?
I take it slapnut is American for facepalm after that accident
+1
Payback for an incident earlier in the race - what a moron!?
I hope Rubens isn't watching....
Karl Edwards is actually brazen about it!!! What an idiot...
He did what now?
I've seen the crash, but wrong way up the pitlane??!
Just back from my birthday film and drinks! Went to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D, was rather underwhelmed and wonder when Alice in Wonderland became an action adventure...
Have many ciders in me now so quite happy :)
If you want to get me a present then (shameless plug alert) you can download my podcast at http://wordsfailmepodcast.blogspot.com/ and satisfy my vanity!
I meant to ram him but didn't expect his car to fly is what he meant to say
Yep - He did a 180 and went the wrong way down the pits
Still inexcusable though
They should ban him for the rest of the season. Only way to deal with morons is to park them
Ok, and Monty appears to be 5th from the looks of things.
This'll be good.
Boogity boogity boogity!!
He said he 'didn't intend for that to happen'. Which meant he intentionally bumped him but he didn't intend for him to get airborne.
So Jarno Trulli x1,000,000,000?
CRASH!
Spinner
...and massive crash taking out the field - what a surprise!!
Yeah that kind of thing. Sorry everyone :(
Carnage
monty got up to 2nd!!!!!
This isn't racing, this is wrestling
oh look, massive crash on GWC... happens almost every time
No need to be sorry, it happens mr alex
impressive driving
Does that mean much in NASCAR, how many hundreds of laps to go?
A good place to be...
one.
twas a great bit of driving.
They are just trying to rn the last lap. They cannot finish the race under yellow
scott speed is in this?
So anything can happen then
I hate the way the commentators seem to enjoy the carnage
Anything just did happen
6 to go? it was 3 two laps ago??
Its like a fight in ice hockey. They think it is part of the sport.
All I'm concerned about is there were two drivers in that crash who were in my selection for Pat's Fantasy Game.
Like Murray said...
Anything can happen in Formula 1, and it usually does.
....but with NASCAR.... ;)
They can't finish under yellow so they have to re-start and go green white chequer
The thing was something changed which I never quite understood. I took it all apart and put it all back together again but nothing. The annoying thing was that I left an hour before the show to get everything right. And I was still an hour late!
Basically they refuse to finish under yellow, so they keep adding laps until they get a green flag finish
oh lord!
They add laps? What kinda crazy sport is this? The commentators sing, they add laps, they show replays without telling me they are replays, Montoya is actually good.
Very confused.
Sounds like a Bernie idea
ahhh....
yep
:)
:)
:)
Drivers drive down the pitlane the wrong way too
:)
They also run the cars with way more fuel than they need to get to the finsih so that they have enough for all the extra laps which may never happen
Legard.
Green-White-Checkered rules, or 'Overdrive':
If there is a yellow which extends past the due distance they forget the distance and set them loose for two flying laps.
If there is a yellow in the first of those laps they do it again. If it is in the second lap they race to the flag stand.
There are three attempts at this.
Maybe they will eventually add so many laps they've basically got to do the whole race again?
Scott Speed is 12th
Compared to his F1 stint, he's doing amazingly then! ;)
They only have three attempts? Then what? Finish under yellow or race to victory lane and whoever gets their first wins?
Mr C said, come see this, last three laps, Monty's second.
I sat there for ten minutes in which Montoya was down in eighth then up in second, about fifteen people had a crash, and now there are six laps to go. Very odd.
About 15 cars in front of him just crashed out to be fair
Ahh, makes sense. I knew it was too good to be true.
So everyone else has done a Scott Speed then?
It used to be one attempt. The fans still complained that they wanted a green finish. So now three attempts.
If the third attempt fails they just call it.
We're about to go for the 2nd attempt.
Right...here we go again
Last year at Texas (I think), John Andretti got sideways across the start/finish line on the GWC - they just kept on racing while he sat sideways on the line
Aren't you glad you don't need to put a podcast together for Nascar. All this and 36 race weekends a year.
On the second las lap there was an accident. After it was cleared up there were only 6 laps left when there was another big crash.
Insane
#Anticlimax
damn, had high hopes for monty :(
The man kept saying, the next flag will be the last flag. I saw at least two flags before it ended.
Very tame ending
There's always next week, and the week after that, and the week after that, and the week after that one as well.
Penske 1st, Ganassi 3rd. I'm amazed that these teams can fight each other across multiple categories and still beat the opposition.
In American racing they have a white flag to tell the drivers it is the last lap. They also use the white flag for the same reason everyone else does to signal that there is a slow vehicle on the track. Quite how the drivers are supposed to know whether to race or not is beyond me
They are also matching USF1 in F1 without even trying. They are that good.
I think that race just gave me a headache
boo
To be fair he's getting better and better. He will win one this year, I've no doubt of that.
that's nothing compared to Bristol. if anywhere makes you dizzy that does
Hell yes - half- mile steep banking isn't it? It's like watching the IRL at Texas, it can be a little difficult at times
IRL at Texas is far faster
Right I think I've fixed my dupe problem... And with that I'm off to bed.
Night everyone... see you bright and early* tomorrow.
*or whenever we next see each other and in whatever visibility conditions we find ourselves in at the time to be more specific
Oh yeah, but sometimes the on boards at Texas give me vertigo
'Night Alex
500 laps of a half-mile oval, btw
night
I may give that a miss I think
Night Alex
Haahaaaaa
The trophy at the NASCAR race is a giant spanner - brilliant!!
Night Alex
The F1 preview show, is it "Jenson's Glourious Season"?
Cos that sounds more like a season review rather than a 2010 preview
They showed a season review on BBC2.
Apparently there was a preview on the red button.
Michael Schumacher on Twitter?
http://twitter.com/MS_MGP
that makes no sense!
I'll watch this first and then check out the red button preview afterwards
Right, I'm off to bed gang.
Night all. Overnighting in Milton Keynes tomorrow so I may be SPC reliant to keep me sane.
i thought i had seen it all on twitter.... someone sent me a tweet, i replied, and then they sent me another
i've never been asked to follow someone before O.O
working in the wind tunnel?
Night Sir
I know! I think something Jake retweeet earlier gives some insight... I think it was a rush job..
RT @top_leighton Just enjoyed F1 preview on red button. Great vibe - like the 5 of you sneaked into studio & switched a camera on! >Cheers!!
Jake said something about there being something released each day?... or something?...
My reply would be: "If you have to ask, then no"
Yikes. I've had people get angry at me for not following them but that's because I know a lot of fanatic muse fans on there (you think I'm bad, these guys tweet 5 or 6 times a minute in caps))
Send back a reply saying NO
I was asked to follow him. So, err, I kinda blocked him
Night Adie.
:)
night
Though I don't know how he's going to react, he might take me out or something.
:-)
Looking at the tweet stream it looks like a LOT of people are being asked to follow - as if they are reading the MGP follower list and asking everyone
If by wind tunnel you mean waffle I will have to endure from my meetings tomorrow then yes!
Okay I'm dubious now
@jpmontoya come back to F1. What a season we could have. Alonso vettel hamilton button massa me you. Breath taking.
I don't follow them, soo, dunno?
I think I may have seen this before, was this on last year?
Montoya to Stefan!!!
Oh wait.
heeh.
Right, Must. Go. Now!
Fairtheewell!
Night Adie! I'm gonna head to the land of sleepy too. Night everyone :)
:D
Anyone staying up for the Oscars?
i'll be up for hours, but doubt i'll see much of them. what time does it kick off?
Not sure yet, will look into it when this season review thing is over
8ET/5PT
Which is 1am GMT, I think
i should be sleeping as i have lots of travelling to do, but i still have like 10 pics to mount up.. :s
Interview tomorrow?
ahh, cool. will still be here.
Can't see any channels that are showing it, that can't be right
interview tuesday. travelling to falmouth tomorrow.. 6 hours in total :s
Good luck with that Lou
Good luck then Lou, knock 'em dead
Just checked tvcatchup and no mention of the oscars anywhere.
you'll be fin
am gonna need it. i'm very nervous about it. However i think the journey down, the nice hotel the the awesome scenery will help :) i'm hoping the hotel has wifi.. but i'm not sure.
that's a typo!
Probably Sky?
not sure that's the best way to impress an interviewer.. ;) but thank you
Good luck. I'd offer a pub stop before/after but you're probably going a different route and probably with parents?
with my mum, yeah.
Sky Movies Premiere, 1am
No need to be nervous. Enjoy the experience and remember they will be seeing other people as well. Let the others be nervous.
Aparently it's on one of the Sky Movies channels but there seem to be a few links floating about on Digital Spy's forums
It is with some interviewrs I have dealt with
Online it is then
Was chatting to someone tonight about Spa
He said the best piece of advice he wished he'd had before watching his first race live was: Bring a small radio for trackside commentary
That's true of any race I think. I wasn't sure about this one though because of the Kangaroo.
There's a large screen in front of us at Eau Rouge
I may get one anyway, more data on it - will see what my budget is.
Ah, for data I have the F1 app
Hw much is Kangaroo for the race?
Enough to question whether to get one :)
40 euros or something? The website wants me to login before it'll give me a price
http://kangaroo.tv/f1/index.php
It says it has a new interface this year. 4 onboards on one screen
That does sound pretty good though
Maybe we could split it, plenty of time to mull it over anyway
Good idea. We don't have to decide until the Friday morning anyway!
Site says Weekend Rental is €50
Probably less if we can get a promo code, Sidepodcast, Joe & Emma should do a cross site promo ;)
Odd that they are only at 7 races for the year though
Which ones?
Bahrain
Australia
Canada
Great Britain
Germany
Belgium
Singapore
Presumably none of the Tilke races that no-one goes to
:D
"Kangaroo TV is focusing on some key races, and are still considering others.
Your overwhelming demand will decide the additional races we add. "
3.5" screen
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/kangaroo-tv-handset-jpg
with an iphone, i'm not sure how much value kanga will offer that the official app won't.
radio5live do the commentary, i guess.
I doubt you'll get R5L in Belgium, don't know who does the Kangaroo commentary
radio 5 live!
Ah okay. Very strange.
Ok then, sounds good
4 simultaneous in-car cameras
true. but with live commenting, and track position on the app, i may run out of hands.
And brain RAM :)
To be fair I was only suggesting it for myself because I don't have an app.
That said, I may have my hands full with my phone, commenting or tweeting away
In our small group if we have commenting, a KTV and the F1 app, we'll be sorted!
data rates might make the app cost prohibitive anyhow.
I'll find out before then
I plan on using it in Cape Town next week
cool!
although, you know they have no bandwidth right?
Who?
Ideally, I'll try to find a bar with Wi-Fi
KTV Screenshots
south africa generally i think.
rich said it takes 40 seconds to open spc homepage at times. and he's in a research facility.
Ah ok, well as long as I can find it on tv with a beer in my hand, I'll be happy
I tweeted him earlier for suggestions
nice one.
Hopefully I'll catch up with him at some point, either next weekend or the one after
One day I'll actually get to meet a listener/commenter in another country! :D
awwww!
technically... spa.
Yeah, that'll be cool but ya know, an Internationl Meet-Up
Especially if Kathi meets us there
understood.
Aye
Any progress on accomodation? The things I found cost too much. I'm getting a bit itchy about it, may take the cabin option but wanted to see what you guys were doing before committing.
#confidentialfromMrC
I'm gonna decided very soon
Cabin is the back-up
Okay. I've got Dad on my back about this other place, I keep telling him no. :-)
If getting to and from the track wasn't an issue, it'd be great
He insists its 45 minutes. He's never been to a GP, he has no idea what race traffic is like.
We should switch to the new Daily
